Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Ant McPartlin:Coming up on today's show, we're hanging out on holiday.
0:03Declan Donnelly:Declan Donnelly's got a beard.
0:13Ant McPartlin:I confused Ant with the no-the game. The inflection is there is a the.
0:18Declan Donnelly:But it doesn't sound like that. We discuss our superhero alter egos. That's your superpower.
0:25Ant McPartlin:Really? Ant has a very public spillage. They kill themselves laughing.
0:32Declan Donnelly:And everybody else starts laughing. The hecklers share some of their inventions. I don't even think we need a banana rate at that, do we? And we share some childhood holiday memories.
0:42Ant McPartlin:That's all coming up. Enjoy the show.
0:49Declan Donnelly:Hey! Hey!
0:55Ant McPartlin:Hello, everybody. Hello, everybody. I was going to say welcome to the hangout, but we're not even in the hangout. We're not in the hangout. Welcome to our holiday hangout.
1:03Declan Donnelly:We are hanging out on holiday.
1:05Ant McPartlin:We are indeed. And you're all very welcome. It's good, isn't it? Yeah, it's good. You're all welcome along on holiday with us. It's nice to be with you once again. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
1:19Declan Donnelly:Whoa.
1:20Ant McPartlin:Whoa?
1:20Declan Donnelly:Are we whoa-ing? Of course we're whoa-ing. Do you have a beard? You do? You've got a beard.
1:29Ant McPartlin:I have a suggestion of a beard at the moment. If you're just listening to this, we obviously have been off work now for about a week, so I haven't shaved for a week. At last. We thought it couldn't happen.
1:42Declan Donnelly:I didn't think it could happen. But Derek has grown a bit. Go, go, do profile.
1:47Ant McPartlin:I'm going to go very close to the camera here.
1:51Declan Donnelly:Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Wow. It is driving me mad. You don't look as much like Alfie Boar as I thought you would. Okay, that's where you had me. Well, that's what we all thought, that you might look a bit like Alfie Boar, but you don't. Do I just look like me with a beard? Yeah, you look like Doug with a beard and glasses. You look like a character in Guess Who. Do you have a beard and glasses? Yes. I think it's Doug.
2:26Ant McPartlin:it is driving man I can't wait to get rid of it it's I've just entered the itchy phase no and it's driving crazy
2:34Declan Donnelly:for the three weeks
2:35Ant McPartlin:no
2:35Declan Donnelly:see how big it gets
2:37Ant McPartlin:no I cannot I can't do that even now the current Mrs Donnelly is going when is that beard going was this just for the pod absolutely this was just for lols yeah I saw some friends I saw some friends the other night we went round to their house and they're like oh you're growing a beard you shouldn't it's for the yeah it doesn't look like you I said it's just for the podcast so there we are we've done it now well done got a beard I can't wait I might shave it during the show on next week's Hangout Deg will
3:14Declan Donnelly:show his legs yeah
3:16Ant McPartlin:in shorts there's a mere suggestion of them here can I just slightly draw your attention to the discrepancy in the muff size we have here. Well, I was going to bring that up. We're on holiday and we've had to bring our own setup. We've had to do this. I've had to become a technician today to set all this up. There's boxes everywhere. Firstly, how did you call by setting it up? I was very stressed. It's a bit hot here.
3:43Declan Donnelly:Because you did join later than me.
3:45Ant McPartlin:I did. Just saying. I did. That was because I was combing my beard. But we've had to set all of this up ourselves. we've got very technical and you seem to have a very big muff on your microphone I have a very small muff on my microphone how has that happened? I think it goes
4:04Declan Donnelly:in height size order so I'm slightly bigger in real life than you so I get a slightly bigger muff than your muff yours is quite yours is thinner and a bit longer mine's got more girth that says a lot folks that says a Let's leave that there. Let's just leave that there for your imagination. If you can't say it, imagine it. How has your holiday been so far? My holiday's been good. Really good. I'll let you all into a little secret. We broke up from holiday, me and Dec, last week. And we've already seen each other on holiday and played golf. We can't keep away from one another that long.
4:47Ant McPartlin:Literally, I landed on Friday and we played golf on Saturday morning. quarter to eight quarter to eight in the morning we teed off at quarter to eight in the morning we hadn't we'd only seen each other 36 hours earlier do you know what
5:02Declan Donnelly:I was thinking this we're going to play a lot of golf on this holiday right hopefully if our wives allow it that's the plan but I worry that we might come across as golf balls if we talk about it too much do you know what I mean you can be a golf ball if you're not into golf and you're talking to somebody else about golf it can be quite boring we were quite worried about that ourselves so we've actually got a game for you again it's called mini golf when you hear this sound one of you is allowed to talk about golf as much as you like for one minute and one minute only okay that's it that's it so we're gonna and then you'll see this quiet please sign the quiet please sign that i won and famous guy swaps things.
5:47Declan Donnelly:So let's, we'll flip a coin to see who gets the first honk and go at mini golf. Have you got a coin? Oh, that's a bad draw. Got a coin? I have got, in this draw, an English penny. How funny. I know. I found that, Wilder found that earlier. I was like, give me that. You could chalk on that, but I'll use that for the podcast, thankfully. Shall I flip it now? Head to me, tails you, Doug? Yeah, that's right. Bye. what is i can't even work i can't even see it can lend us your glasses will you um tails tails it's you it's on earth better yeah tails it's me tails okay so i get first chat about golf you get first chat about golf do you feel like you've relaxed yet no i'm still
6:35Ant McPartlin:getting there i still have not unpacked a full suitcase have you not no it's stressing me out a little bit so much other things so many other things to do like play golf at eight o 'clock in the morning um that i haven't unpacked fully yet so i'm going to do that today that is my mission for today to fully settle in today um and then i'll be properly on holiday yeah i'm the same
6:57Declan Donnelly:i don't really maybe today maybe after well i'm kind of at work now so i don't feel like i'm on holiday anymore um but yeah you're right we played golf then it was the england game so we're celebrating the England game and then we're obviously up late because it went into you know extra time and it became a late night and I was up early with the kids so yeah I don't feel rested at all no but can we just talk about Jude Bellingham and what a machine that man is I love him I think I'm in love with him I think I'm in love with Jude Bellingham he's very easy to fall in love with he's just quite dreamy he's in the eyes he's dreamy he's got great skills good tech
7:42Ant McPartlin:silky skills now of course we're recording this early in the week so by the time this goes out England will have already played Argentina
7:50Declan Donnelly:oh my god you're right
7:53Ant McPartlin:we will know oh you're right we will know whether we we are in a world cup final or whether we've gone out controversially to Argentina once again well
8:03Declan Donnelly:let's do both again then so congratulations England oh we're in a world cup final This is incredible. We're in the final, guys. Oh, my God. June does it again. June and Harry Kane do it again. 2-1. Can you believe it? Oh. Oh.
8:19Ant McPartlin:Oh. That referee. That was never a thing, was it? That whole thing that the referee did.
8:25Declan Donnelly:How controversial was that?
8:27Ant McPartlin:I can't believe. Hey, talking of that, I read something on social media. So it must be true. Brought me cup. Brought me cup from home. I read on social media that... they put all of Nostradamus' predictions into AI and got it to translate Nostradamus and what he predicted about the World Cup and about this year. And Nostradamus has said that there will be a huge controversial call in this World Cup, even more controversial than the hand of God in 1986 from Diego Maradona. And it will have a huge say on the winning of the World Cup. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, we have not had that so far. I think it's going to come in the England versus Argentina match.

9:22Ant McPartlin:I've made a huge thing about this, and I've just realised this will already have happened by the time this goes out.
9:29Declan Donnelly:Hold on a second. Right. I don't want to kind of pop your bubble here. Rain on my parade? Rain on your parade, pop your bubble, pee on your bonfire. But the World Cup wasn't even a thing when Nostradamus was alive. So how can you predict something that hasn't even happened? Like football, I don't think was invented. And certainly a world format of people playing football wasn't invented. So how can he then think up this invention of football, then a tournament that people play around the world, and then the hand of God, and then another one?
10:08Ant McPartlin:They are all excellent points. Which I have no... I read it on social media, so I don't know. Okay, that's fine. But according to a daily Red Top newspaper, Nostradamus says there's going to be a controversial call, bigger than the hand of God, which will decide the destination of the World Cup.
10:28Declan Donnelly:Do you think that had anything to do? Do you think that could be then Trump getting involved with the unrescinded red card?
10:36Ant McPartlin:Could be.
10:36Declan Donnelly:Because that was quite controversial.
10:38Ant McPartlin:That was quite, was it more controversial than the hand of God? You be the judge.
10:41Declan Donnelly:Well, not if you're an England fan. No, that's true. Not if you're an England fan. Absolutely not.
10:46Ant McPartlin:Could be that. Could also be just filling space to sell papers. I'm kind of not making any plans for the final yet in case we don't get there. I just feel like it's tempting fate by making plans.
11:01Declan Donnelly:Do you know what I find now? Because I don't... We used to go to the pub and watch football all the time, didn't we? Yeah. And you get used to kind of watching... I used to love watching the football in the pub. And I used to love a big screen. And I used to like getting there early and getting to see, especially for big tournaments like the World Cup or the Euros or something. now I don't drink and I watch a lot of games at home the idea of going back out to watch it in a really busy pub where I can't really hear the commentary and I can't really focus on what's going on kind of puts me right off so if we do get to the final I'm really stuck because I kind of want the atmosphere and I want to be part of but I really enjoy watching it at home because you do you do you end up just getting distracted by so many things especially me i'm sorry like oh he's got a nice shirt yeah that shirt is you've got a nice rat rush shirt oh i missed the goal i've managed to say that i missed jude bellingham's winning goal i missed it against norway against norway so we've gone to extra time and did you go to the toilet no i didn't go to the toilet the telly went into auto power saving mode you know when you get like 60 seconds that big press any button to continue press any button to continue but there's three remotes and i'm like which remote is it so i pick up one remote and and a friend i was watching with goes i'll press i was like don't you press it it's not my remote because i thought if you press that you're going to reconfigure the whole telly and then i said i I'll tell you what we'll do.
12:41Declan Donnelly:I said, I'll just quickly turn it off. Wait 10 seconds. I'll quickly turn it back on again. So we quickly turned off the telly, right? Because I couldn't work out which remote it was. Quickly turned off the telly. It went black. And then it wouldn't turn back on. And then from across the way, this is a hotel around the, over the road. And we could just hear, oh, yeah. I was like, they've scored on a rebound. and I could tell it was a rebound because you could hear the oh or he hit the post or something yeah that's it because the keeper
13:15Ant McPartlin:called it didn't he and then spilled it yeah that was a long range shot keeper called it spilled it and then so that was the oh yeah and then was the goal oh my god and by the time
13:27Declan Donnelly:the auto power save bloody thing had sorted itself out I'd missed it
13:32Ant McPartlin:it came back to life you turned the TV back on
13:34Declan Donnelly:I ran inside and it was 2-1 it was an outside telly I ran inside I switched the telly on inside and while there's a steep store I'll go silently celebrating and then I ran back outside to watch it I missed it missed the whole thing
13:48Ant McPartlin:Did you have a lot of anxiety chocolate during the match this time round? I did What did you eat? More Toblerone?
13:53Declan Donnelly:I didn't have Toblerone because after what happened last time when it looked like that I saw it myself After the last incident I had four pimp of Snickers Oh it's on Minigolf Minigolf Is it me? Yes
14:07Ant McPartlin:Right, so we teed off 7.44 a.m. It was absolutely beautiful. The sun was up, still a little bit of a chill in the air. And out I pulled my Callaway Square driver. I know it well. An old-style driver, but it goes straight as an arrow. First tee, bang, right down the middle. And then iron play was working well. Me chipping wasn't so good, but I was putting quite well. I was putting quite well. The course was immaculate. It was absolutely brilliant. It was crisp and fresh. There was a little bit of dew on the ground, but you could just get under the ball and flick it off the fairways onto the green where it lands softly.
14:55Ant McPartlin:It has been the best. We've already got more golf booked in. We're playing at least twice a week while we're here. Perfect conditions. T-shirt and shirts. T-shirt? T-shirts and shorts.
15:09Declan Donnelly:It's the best.
15:10Ant McPartlin:I'll turn it off. It's the best. It's the best conditions for golf. That's it.
15:16Declan Donnelly:That's all you can talk about.
15:17Ant McPartlin:Do I get another one later?
15:19Declan Donnelly:No, it's me next. Is that it? That's it. Next week you'll get one. But that's it. Next week? Next week? Is that the rules? That's the rules. What if hilarious things happen on the golf course? then does that have to be within all 60 seconds? Or is that just a catch-up story? It is truly hilarious. Who defines truly? There is a judge of that. You do. Right, fine. Okay, okay. Put it in writing. Okay, we'll submit it to Heckless Corner and then you let us know. For approval. Okay, thanks. Oh, God, it's nice to be on holiday though. If you're listening to this on your holidays, happy holidays guys if you're listening to this on the way to work soz but hopefully you've got a holiday coming up soon hopefully yeah hopefully
16:12Ant McPartlin:you are sitting on a sun lounger somewhere watching the world go by maybe on the beach looking at the sea maybe around the pool looking at the kids on inflatables maybe trekking up a mountain
16:23Declan Donnelly:somewhere
16:23Ant McPartlin:but having a lovely time happy holidays guys happy holidays if you like us are on holiday at the moment, then we would love to hear from you. We would love to hear where you are, what you're doing. Is it an activity holiday? Is it a relaxing holiday? Is it a city break? Is it a spa? Anything at all. Let us know what you're doing, where you're going, who you're with. And also while you're there, you could do a little bit of guerrilla marketing for the podcast. Yes, please. Spread the word of hanging out on holiday.
16:51Declan Donnelly:We can start like a hanging out tourist board. Yes. Let us know where you are and then you can advertise the pod for us in far-flung places around the world.
17:02Ant McPartlin:And if you do that, you could become our regional manager of the hanging out tourist board. Our foreign correspondents all over the world. Our foreign correspondents. That would be great. Yeah, let us know why you're on holiday and let us know if it's any good. Give us a banana rating out of eight. Should we go there and try it? So yeah, if you're on holiday, you've got your banana ready. And it's got a little cheeky banana in case he gets peckish during the plot. I've got two bananas.
17:26Declan Donnelly:Can I sign this? Yeah. Who's going to sign it? I'll sign it. corner. Oh, that can take it. So I can't snap his camera until... Here we go again. This was just going to be my mid-morning snack, but now it's a world record attempt.
17:44Ant McPartlin:But now it's a quick mid-morning snack. Ready? Let's see how quick it is. Ready. On your marks, get set, go.
18:00Declan Donnelly:don't laugh him that's done
18:07Ant McPartlin:so if you remember rightly the record was eight bananas in 60 seconds done okay that's good that is very good one banana in 21.9 seconds so you're on course there for three two two three bananas okay
18:27Declan Donnelly:okay I need to get that sub 10 seconds, really, don't I? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's pretty good, though, guys.
18:38Declan Donnelly:Mini golf horn. It's me, mini golf. Right, I'm glad I've got you. 60 seconds. My driver's not working. Oh, no. For those of you that don't play golf, in a set of golf clubs, the biggest club you've got is a driver. It's the one you tee off with the most. I, like Dec, used to play with a Callaway Square driver. and I never, ever missed a fairway. Well, occasionally in the course of, you know, 10 years, whatever. Anyway, I was like, they're getting old now and they've since stopped doing them, haven't they, Dick? They don't tell me we're not made them anymore. So I've moved on to, I've got tailor-made clubs at the minute.
19:15Declan Donnelly:I just can't get it off the tee as well as I can with the square. But the square, the grip doesn't work. It's all battered. I bought one off a second-hand golf site because I couldn't use the new one. So the new one I've got is still second hand and I'm going to have to go back to play with that because I can't find the driver, which is as good. And McLaren don't even do drivers. Oh, yeah. They just do irons. So even if I'd bought the McLaren Club... Quiet, please. You think that the audience want the end of that, don't you? You know what I mean? They're so passionate. You can tell them next week.
19:56Declan Donnelly:Next week?
19:57Ant McPartlin:Yeah.
19:59Declan Donnelly:Okay. We should just have to start a new golf podcast without these girls.
20:03Ant McPartlin:But now that you've obviously ended your spending ban before we came away on holiday, you bought those lime green fluorescent... Yellow trainers. Fluorescent yellow trainers. Yellow banana trainers, yeah. Can you now go and buy golf clubs?
20:19Declan Donnelly:I can't, but do you know what? Having done the spending ban, I'm still a bit more restrained than I was. You haven't had loads of deliveries to the house? No. Unlike you. Well, no. Because when I saw your wife the other day, she was like, he needs to do a spending ban because every time the door goes,
20:37Ant McPartlin:it's a parcel for him. So all of those parcels that come to my house are all from my account. So it's my Amazon account. It's my, all my accounts, they're all in my name. So obviously every parcel is going to be for me with my name on it. But I open it and go, oh, this isn't mine. This is for you. This is for you. but they're all coming because I hold all the accounts. In fact, I got one the other day. You know, when you get an email saying there will be a parcel delivered today between 10 o 'clock and 12 o 'clock.
21:03Declan Donnelly:Yeah.
21:04Ant McPartlin:I got one of these the other day and me heart skipped a beat. I was like, what is going on here? So it said, listen to this. I thought I was in for the holiday of a lifetime. Listen to this. So I got an email. It said, your parcel from Intimate Lingerie will be delivered between 10 and 12. I was like, Mrs. D's been on a spend-up on holidays. She has been on a spend-up.
21:35Declan Donnelly:I'm in for a treat on holiday.
21:38Ant McPartlin:Intimate Lingerie has arrived in today. Good for you. I was walking around with a spring in me step. I thought, what is going on here? 10 foot tall. And then I got another one saying, your parcel from Intimate Lingerie will be delivered today. I was like, oh my God, it's coming. And then, and then I remembered, I bought six pairs of underpants for holiday. And it was my memory. No way. How intimate were these briefs? Well, I don't know why, because my pants, I didn't buy my pants. No, I've not bought people underpants. Yeah, put it out there. But I don't know why. They're my normal pants that I wear.
22:23Ant McPartlin:But for some reason, they're being delivered by a company called Intimate Lingerie. Did they come in discreet packaging? No, not particularly, no. But yeah, so I wasn't as lucky as I thought, Analdi.
22:36Declan Donnelly:Have you guys seen any celebs on the golf course yet? Because that's the kind of golf chat we care about.
22:41Ant McPartlin:No, no, thanks. Thanks. I haven't seen any celebrity golfers out here yet.
22:45Declan Donnelly:We normally play golf with Peter Jones when we're out here. you know, Dragon's Den. The dragon, that is. Peter Jones. But I haven't seen him yet.
22:53Ant McPartlin:A few of the lads. He might be filming Dragon's Den. Does he film it in the summer, Peter? I don't know. Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm sure he'll be out here soon. Dragon's Den, it's good, isn't it?
23:02Declan Donnelly:Oh, it's still brilliant. I absolutely love it.
23:04Ant McPartlin:I love Inventions. Would you be a good dragon? No. Why? I'd invest in everything. Be like, oh, I know you haven't got your business plan up to scratch, but I'll put a little bit of money in anyway.
23:15Declan Donnelly:Yeah, but you seem, yeah, I'd be exactly the same. I would be like Debra Meaden who puts money in nothing. I would, yeah, I'd end up, and I wouldn't be very good on the last either. You know when they have their little notepads and they've got their hands and they're like, so what's your gross profit? I'd be like, doodled. I've just doodled again. Well, when you see him next, we've actually got a couple of kind of inventions that we've come up with. You have got inventions. You do. Yeah, we invent stuff in Heckler's Corner. Do you really? I'm not going to, guys, I'm not going to click off of them and then pitch him your inventions.
23:55Declan Donnelly:But let's hear them anyway, because this sounds fun. Why don't we start where you give us a banana rating? Okay. And if you give anything eight, then maybe... Then it has to be pitched. Okay. You take it to Peter. All right, okay. Does that work? That's a good idea. Yeah, yeah, we'll try that. Okay, yeah. Okay, so it's like a pre-Dragon's Den. Yeah. Banana Den. Yeah, we could, yeah. We can call it the hacktory.
24:18Ant McPartlin:We can call it that if you like. You can call it that. I'll call it something else. So these are life hacks as well as inventions.
24:26Declan Donnelly:Yeah, because that's why I invent stuff. Right, go on Lola. I've got, I think mine's really good.
24:32Ant McPartlin:We'll be the judge of that.
24:34Declan Donnelly:If you're at home as a girl and you're fake tanning, maybe a man too actually, you're fake tanning and you're on your own in the home, you can't get to your back. so you get a coat hanger you slip the mitt onto the side of it like the triangle end then you can reach your back and you can turn your back and then you don't ever need anyone else in your life
24:57Ant McPartlin:that's very good
24:59Declan Donnelly:I think it's quite good does that not exist? yeah well it does exist because you do it it feels like it should be a product
25:10Ant McPartlin:already
25:11Declan Donnelly:I don't think it is an extendable back tanner. Extendable back tanner. Yeah. Okay. I like it. That's not bad. And you could use it for sun cream? Exactly. Yeah, you could. On holiday. Because you'll avoid your weird sunburn marks. I'll try, but... Yeah, you will. That's good. I like that. I like it. Take it to the dragon. That's a good... Take it. Take it to the dragon. It's useful. We can mass produce it. Exactly. It works all around the world, every territory. Every language. Apart from like Norway and Iceland, because they want to tan their backs. But they'll want to go on holiday. But they will want to go on holiday, right?
25:54Declan Donnelly:Even moisturiser. Even moisturiser. The possibilities are endless. I know.
25:58Ant McPartlin:Well, they're not endless. Well, they're not endless. We've kind of, we've ended them. It's moisturiser, tan or sun cream. Or an itch. Yeah, that's a different thing.
26:09Declan Donnelly:You should really get out there and dominate the world with the extendable time and mitt. Okay. Then you can do the scratcher afterwards. Because I think the scratcher is out there already.
26:20Ant McPartlin:Is the scratcher a different attachment?
26:22Declan Donnelly:Yeah. See, we can have different heads.
26:25Ant McPartlin:Different heads.
26:26Declan Donnelly:I like it. A loofah. You can pop a loofah on as well. Yeah.
26:29Ant McPartlin:To exfoliate.
26:30Declan Donnelly:Yeah.
26:31Ant McPartlin:In the shower. So the possibilities are now four.
26:34Declan Donnelly:Yeah. How many bananas? It's pretty good. I'm still reluctant to pitch it on the golf course. So six bananas?
26:46Ant McPartlin:I would love that. He would just look at you like, have you gone mad?
26:51Declan Donnelly:Hey, great shot, Peter. Well done. Have you ever heard of an extendable tiling mitt?
26:59Ant McPartlin:That's very good. I'm going to give it six bananas because I've got a feeling this must exist already. Yeah.
27:06Declan Donnelly:But it's a good idea. Yeah. Next into the Hucktery is... Freeze your coffee in ice cubes and then you've got frozen coffee. Tell them all. Because you know when you put ice in an iced coffee, it gets a bit diluted. So if you just freeze the coffee from the get-go... Freeze the espresso? Yeah, freeze the espresso. Pop your ice cubes in a glass. Pour some milk in. And you've got iced coffee.
27:34Ant McPartlin:They've got a way for it to melt.
27:37Declan Donnelly:Yes.
27:38Ant McPartlin:Yeah. So I'm going to enjoy this nice coffee in an hour. It lasts longer. I don't even think we need a banana rate at that, do we?
27:45Declan Donnelly:No. It's no banana.
27:46Ant McPartlin:I don't drink coffee at all. So the thought of iced coffee is even worse than the thought of coffee. So I'm out.
27:54Declan Donnelly:So I'm out. I love coffee. I love iced coffee. And I am also out. Okay. Well, I've got two. One's more of an invention. One's more of a hack. I'm going to give one to Fiona so she has a good one. Can I go again? Do you want to go? No, I don't have anything. Okay, what about this? Freeze a bottle of water, put it behind a fan, air conditioning.
28:19Ant McPartlin:Does that work? Does it work?
28:21Declan Donnelly:Yeah. Does it? Yeah. Yeah, that's what we're saying. It does work! I've seen. Why did you put it behind and not in front? I'm not sure, but that's what you're meant to do. Because I've seen people on social media during the heatwave in the UK getting ice cubes and putting them in a ball. I'm sure they put the fan there and then they put the in front. I'm sure they do. Just blowing the coal there across you. Well, then mine is different from theirs because it's behind. Aha. Aha. That's my USP.
28:56Ant McPartlin:I mean, I'd have to test it. You've got to test it. You've got to test the theory.
29:00Declan Donnelly:There's loads of... There's actually, hold on, there's fans out there you can buy, like those units where you put ice cubes in the bottom and then it circulates. Coffee ice cubes.
29:10Ant McPartlin:Coffee ice cubes. You can have a cool coffee aroma. Your wife would love that.
29:20Declan Donnelly:She would love coffee a mile off. No, I'm not sure about that. No, I mean, all of the things in your product exist already. It's just a case of whether you put it in the front or the back. big question
29:34Ant McPartlin:for now for now imagine being on the golf course going Peter that looks like a delicious bottle of water you're drinking there have you ever thought about putting that behind a fan
29:42Declan Donnelly:freezing it and putting it behind a fan
29:46Ant McPartlin:try it no bananas I'm afraid no I think we've got half a good idea there Lola with the mitt with the endless stroke four to five possibilities but if you're out there watching and listening if you can do any better send us your life hacks or ideas for inventions, send them to us and we'll give them the right good going over here at hangingoutatbeltlerbox.com.
30:09Declan Donnelly:And if they're good, I'll pitch them to Peter Jones on the golf course. I'll tell you what happened on day two of my holiday. Went for an ice cream, as you do. Oh, love it. What did you have? Proper gelato, ice cream. Me and the kids went with arms. So we all went. We all stood in the queue. while I was very excited. So the kids went first. The girls had, probably in days they had like a sorbet. Just a nice little refreshing sorbet. See, Hegla's Corner is nodding. Would you get a sorbet? I love sorbet. You'd get a sorbet? I would never get a sorbet. You're on holiday, man.
30:46Ant McPartlin:In a cone?
30:47Declan Donnelly:Live a little.
30:48Ant McPartlin:Would you get a sorbet in a cone?
30:49Declan Donnelly:No, they'd go in toks. While I got like a sprinkly fun thing and I went last because I was paying. I was all right. I'll go last. I'll go last. I went, I'll have a cone and I'll have two scoops, please. And then they'd all go out the way of the glass so I could see the ice cream. That's why I said, you guys go first because I can't stand when you can't see it because then you make a snap judgment and then you'll choose something. And then when the queue clears, you'll see all the better ice creams. And I'm like, right, what do we have? What was on your shoulders? Well, there was Lord's Coffee Ice Cream, which I just started getting into.
31:27Declan Donnelly:Yuck. No, I'm telling you, it's good. So it was coffee, but I didn't go for that. There was a lot of different ones I would have gone. Mint choc chip, which I know you're a fan of, Declan. I love it. I didn't go for that. Like a chocolate lime. There's no chocolate limes. Funny that, no chocolate limes, because nobody likes it. So I went for double scoop, very particular, vanilla on the bottom, and a praline on the top. So two massive scoops on a big oil. The corn was massive. It was like this size. So I'm like licking away. I turn up here, bloop the thing, turn around. And I go, hey, and all the kids are like, double scoop.
32:09Declan Donnelly:I was like, double scoop. And both of the scoops fall off the corn onto the ground.
32:15Ant McPartlin:They kill themselves laughing.
32:18Declan Donnelly:And everybody else starts laughing. Like not just my family, other families and grown men. All passing by. And somebody was pointing at the ice cream on the floor. Like in a ha-ha Simpsons moment. Shout out to the woman who will never listen to this because she lives abroad. But she gave me two free scoops. She saw it happen. The woman that works at the ice cream shop, she said, no, sir, sir, come back, come back. So she gave us two free scoops, which was very nice. A good egg. But she pressed them down really hard so they didn't wobble off again. I can add that to my holiday bingo card. Ice cream, falling off the corn, tick.
32:58Declan Donnelly:We should do that. We should do another bingo card. What's a holiday bingo card? Well, you know, certain things that are going to happen to you on holiday. Oh, okay, right, right, right. Like that. That is a good one. Burn your back is another good one. Or for you, burn your feet. Burn your plums. Burn your plums. Not your plums. Not your plums. Burn your feet. You get burned at some... You will get burned at some point.
33:21Ant McPartlin:yeah I always get a little weird sunburn you know you put your cream everywhere and then there's you get like a strip down here you go how did I miss how did I miss that where has that come from yeah so it's always a weird weird bit of sunburn
33:33Declan Donnelly:dropping ice cream that's a good one for me right weird burn would be another one for you yeah and I always hurt myself there's always a cut somewhere it's normally on my feet and it's a real shame because I've got such good feet you can tell that by wicky feet if you log on there.
33:54Ant McPartlin:You always order something from a restaurant that you think is something else. And it turns out and you go, oh, that's not what I thought it was. Yeah.
34:02Declan Donnelly:Should we put that on the bingo card? Put that on. Stick that on the bingo card. And if you can send in your suggestions, we'll add them to the bingo card and see if we can fill out our bingo card by the end of our holidays. Yes. Hanging out at belterbox.com. Time for a bit of an ad break. Can we go back to us in the studio for the ad? Because they're not on holiday.
34:26Ant McPartlin:Let's go back to our clones who are not on holiday, who are minding the fort back in the studio.
34:34Declan Donnelly:This next segment is sponsored by Santander, who understand that heading to university is a big moment and it's often the small practical things that can make the biggest difference.
34:45Ant McPartlin:So, another agony Santander here. Yes. And this is a student special. This one is from Jake. Hi, Jake. Dear Agony Ant and Dare, I'm just finishing my second year of uni and to make ends meet, I've had a part-time job in a cafe. Good for you. And it's been great. Good. Nothing too stressful and it's fitted around my lectures. However, here's the but. We knew it was coming, didn't we? Yeah. A few weeks ago, my manager pulled me to one side and said he thought I was doing really well and asked if I'd be interested in a supervisor role next year. More responsibility, slightly better pay. That's good.
35:17Ant McPartlin:but also more hours, which would mean more clashes with lectures and probably less time for my actual degree. The money would genuinely help, but I came to university to get a degree, not work my way up the cafe management ladder. Thing is, I haven't said no yet, and the longer I leave it, the more I feel like I'm stringing him along, which isn't fair because he's been really good to me. Do I take the job? And either way, how do I handle the conversation with my manager without burning a bridge that I might need next summer, asks Jake.
35:47Declan Donnelly:Jake, great letter. You've got to get on and talk to him, like sooner rather than later. Because, like you said, you're there for a degree. You're not there to work your way up the cafe ladder. So you just want to keep the same job, I presume with the same money, for the next two years and that'll see you through uni. It's good money for you. It's good to be in a working environment, isn't it? It's good to meet people and have responsibilities.
36:14Ant McPartlin:Especially in a cafe which is somewhere so social.
36:16Declan Donnelly:I think you've just got to have that conversation. It's not burning bridges, is it?
36:19Ant McPartlin:Having a conversation. Not at all. I don't think you can put it in a really adult way. Yeah. And that's the dilemma here. Like, you know, Jake, you're saying, do I take the job? I think you already know what the answer is to that. As Anne said, you're there to get your degree. So your dilemma isn't about the job. It's about how do you have the conversation? That's a much easier dilemma to solve, I think.
36:42Declan Donnelly:And the answer, we think, is just do it.
36:45Ant McPartlin:Yeah.
36:45Declan Donnelly:You can't overthink it. No. Your intentions are true. So because they're true, you won't make a mistake. Yeah. Just be honest. And it's something along the lines of, I love working here at the cafe.
36:58Ant McPartlin:Thank you so much for the offer. I was really tempted. However, my uni studies have to take precedence right now.
37:05Declan Donnelly:But I'll continue doing the same job for the same pay. the same role and continue to work as hard yeah that was the best one we've done ever
37:15Ant McPartlin:ever ever yeah I think it is that's a genuine bit of advice we've given there yeah it is a lot of the time it's quite flowery let's be honest a lot of the time we try and get out of making decisions but that one that was proper advice that
37:27Declan Donnelly:saying that neither of us have been to university or worked at a cafe I've been to a cafe though I love it yeah so have I I've been to a uni so we know a lot
37:37Ant McPartlin:dear Agony Antander my son is starting his first year at Newcastle Uni and he's really concerned about the cost so am I but I'm not going to tell him that he's also a bit of a home bird so I know he'll want to travel back a lot it's great that we'll see him lots but he isn't going to learn how to drive until he's graduated and nor is he interested in getting a job that means it'll likely be me picking him up from Newcastle or likely the bank of mum and dad will have to pay for him to get the train back to Grantham handy, it's on the east coast mainland Yeah, it is. Any tips on how I can encourage him to be open to part-time work whilst he studies?
38:12Ant McPartlin:From Steve. So you've got to try. How does he instil some sort of work ethic into his son, Ant? Good luck.
38:19Declan Donnelly:Good luck, pal. I think, yes, he might be a homebody. But until they go and have that uni experience up somewhere like Newcastle, they won't understand how much fun it is. And they meet new people, like-minded people. It's not like school where you're kind of thrown together. You're going to a place where you want to learn something with people who are like you, who want to learn about the same subject as you. So already it's kind of, it's got more niche. So therefore you're probably bound to get on more than you ever did with anyone at school. So he will want to stay there longer than coming back more, I think.
38:57Declan Donnelly:I think you'll be surprised at how much you'll want to stay in Newcastle because Newcastle is a really fun city.
39:03Ant McPartlin:Yeah, it's very, very social.
39:04Declan Donnelly:And it doesn't have to be uber bougie or expensive.
39:07Ant McPartlin:Do you think he will get there and when other friends and people in his EA are getting part-time jobs, that he'll go, maybe I could do a bit of that and get a bit of extra cash.
39:17Declan Donnelly:And I think that one thing, once he sees them with that extra bit of cash and what that cash allows them to do, he'll be like, maybe I can get a job. That's exactly what will happen. And besides getting a part-time job, there's loads of other ways he can be smart with his money.
39:31Ant McPartlin:Yes, there are. Like if you open a Santander Edge, student current account. It gives you access to a free 16 to 25 year old rail card where you can save a third on train fares.
39:42Declan Donnelly:And if he uses the train a lot, which it sounds like he does or he would do, then he could put aside what he saved from using his student rail card to achieve something that's important to him, like saving for his driving lesson. So win-win for both of you.
39:57Ant McPartlin:Yes, there's more to the account than just a rail card as well. There's an interest-free arranged overdraft for those tricky moments when you really need it. There's free cash withdrawals abroad and everyday savings through boosts at places like Trainline and Just Eat.
40:11Declan Donnelly:So it's a proper little toolkit for someone finding their feet, which sounds exactly like what he needs.
40:18Ant McPartlin:And that's what Santander are all about, encouraging you to take charge of your money and make small practical steps that can move you forward.
40:26Declan Donnelly:Visit santander.co.uk or search Santander Edge Student Current Account. Santander. It starts here. Now, over to Heckler's Corner for the T's and C's. Must be an 18 plus living in the UK permanently and studying for an undergraduate course or level four to seven apprenticeship. You'll need to provide proof of study when you can apply for the account. Pay in at least£500 every four months. Credit is subject to status T's and C's supply.
40:49Ant McPartlin:Is that your telephone voice? Yes. Yeah, you can tell, you can tell. This next bit is brought to you by TV Licensing. What have you been watching? Oh, well, can we just talk about both BBC's and ITV's coverage of this summer's World Cup. It's brilliant.
41:05Declan Donnelly:Has it not been amazing? It's been amazing. It has been brilliant. The pundits have been great. On both sides, I've liked the punditry, but I've particularly enjoyed ITV's set, which we've talked about. Which we visited. We visited out in New York, but it looks great. It's like a star of its own. But the football's been out of this world. Yeah. The stars have shone when it comes to the global superstars of the game. And they're still in it, which is great to see. Scoring goals for fun. Careers getting lengthened. Records are getting broken. Loved it, man.
41:39Ant McPartlin:It's been such a brilliant summer of football and the coverage has been amazing. I've absolutely loved it. I'll tell you what's going to be an interesting watch. The chase around the world. Yes, I'm interested in this. So it's pairs of contestants and they go around the world. Solving puzzles as they go around the world. And trying to track down the chasers. Yes. Where I think then they take the chasers on to win a life-changing prize. This is going to be epic.
42:07Declan Donnelly:It's just intriguing as to what it's going to look like and what it's going to sound like and be like because it's a quiz show. And we both love the chase. Yeah, we love the chase. But it's a quiz show. So how is that going to work around the world?
42:22Ant McPartlin:It's going to be really fascinating. Yeah. And good old Bradley, he got to travel the world playing the chess. Isn't that amazing? What a gig. What a gig. What a gig, Bradley. Retire.
42:34Declan Donnelly:Give us someone else a go.
42:36Ant McPartlin:A TV licence covers you to watch over 400 channels, including the ones we've talked about today and BBC iPlayer.
42:42Declan Donnelly:To find out more, go to tvl.co.uk forward slash pod. Hey, do you want to play the Nova game again? Oh, yeah. I love the Nova game.
42:54Ant McPartlin:So the not the game is, is there a the or is there not a the for a band or is it movies and anything at all?
43:03Declan Donnelly:Anything at all.
43:03Ant McPartlin:Anything at all. Is there a the or is there not the?
43:07Declan Donnelly:Okay. So I want your answers to be the or should the answer be no the or no the? I mean, you could do it like that, but I'd be very confused by the end of it. All right. Deck versus Ant. Here we go. Carpenters.
43:25Ant McPartlin:Oh, the. No, the. No, the. What? What?
43:31Declan Donnelly:There's no the. Is there not? They weren't the carpenters. The carpenters. Just carpenters. The carpenters aren't the carpenters. It's just carpenters. Carpenters. Really? Truman Show. No, the. What are you doing, Dan? I don't get this. I don't get this. no the I guess that's the game but that can't be the answer yeah it's no the yeah but it all depends on how I'm reading your inflection yeah
44:07Ant McPartlin:so my inflection is
44:09Declan Donnelly:yeah I'm clearly reading it wrong
44:11Ant McPartlin:this is stupid this game the inflection is there is a the but it doesn't sound like that it is because if it was no the I'd go no the when I go no the means there is a the
44:25Declan Donnelly:for God's sake this is too much I'm on me holidays this is too much thinking time it's too much brain power there's definitely the Truman Show yeah the the well done killers
44:42Ant McPartlin:no the what
44:49Declan Donnelly:just ignore him Just say yes or no. Yes, the. Yes, this. The. Yes, the. Yes, the killers. Shut up. Talking heads. Oh, that's a good one.
45:05Ant McPartlin:No, the.
45:06Declan Donnelly:No, the. No, the.
45:09Ant McPartlin:No, the.
45:12Declan Donnelly:Lord of the Rings.
45:16Ant McPartlin:Yes, the. No, the.
45:21Declan Donnelly:The Darkness
45:26Ant McPartlin:No The Yes The
45:28Declan Donnelly:So you both think there's a the Yes I think there's a yes Do you think there's a yes deck or not? A yes Do you think there's a the Jesus Christ If we're confused This must be the worst podcast That we've done for the listener Think of it that way
45:47Ant McPartlin:I think it's very straightforward What?
45:49Declan Donnelly:Eh?
45:50Ant McPartlin:No the.
45:51Declan Donnelly:Wait, but J 'bima's getting confused, given the answers?
45:54Ant McPartlin:That means there's a the.
45:56Declan Donnelly:Gorillas.
45:58Ant McPartlin:No the. No the.
46:00Declan Donnelly:No the.
46:01Ant McPartlin:No the.
46:02Declan Donnelly:Great Gatsby.
46:06Ant McPartlin:No the.
46:07Declan Donnelly:The Great Gatsby. Yes. Yes. Yes, the. Yes.
46:13Ant McPartlin:That's what I said.
46:15Declan Donnelly:Cool. Cool. gladiator the movie no the no the no the well done what are the scores I'm not sure if this is correct I won that definitely it's got ant seven deck six so the winner is ant thank you very much thank you very much I think I got them all right I didn't even understand it halfway I got a bit confused and didn't want to be here but I'm really proud of my win you're one a piece each one a game it's a good game this
46:53Ant McPartlin:I like it I don't like it
46:55Declan Donnelly:it's stupid and I normally I like stupid things but it's confusingly stupid it's like a logic puzzle I hate them I hate those kind of things do you know what I mean what about
47:07Ant McPartlin:what about the the 1 % Club never watch it doesn't mean it no
47:12Declan Donnelly:I like him I like Lee Mark I think he's hilarious and I like the show I like the premise of the show. You just don't like playing along? I just don't want to work that hard. My wife jumps in very early and guesses. And it's not like I haven't guessed. It's just she just guesses really early and annoyingly gets it right. Oh, that's annoying. So just kind of. I'm like, don't, you've done it again?
47:39Ant McPartlin:Oh my God, she's so annoying.
47:44Declan Donnelly:She is so annoying. It's like her superpower. She can work things out really quickly. You can't get anything past her. She's got a really good sense of smell. She's got a really good sense of smell. She went like this, right? She picked up Wilder. The other week she went, oh, he's coming down with something. I went, what? And lo and behold, the next day he was ill. She only had an infection on the kids. I was like, you want to go and, you're like a superhero?
48:10Ant McPartlin:Wow.
48:11Declan Donnelly:I know.
48:12Ant McPartlin:That's a special talent.
48:13Declan Donnelly:That is a special talent.
48:14Ant McPartlin:she should be the subject of like a box set kind of thing. Do you know what I mean? Like Dexter or House. The smeller. The smeller.
48:26Declan Donnelly:That's what she is. The smeller. It's a good special talent. And it got me thinking like, does anybody else have other special talents that you don't really think is a special talent until somebody else points it out? I'm going to get knots out. That's good. That's a good superpower as well. There's billions of people on this planet, right? And we all think superpowers are being invisible or flying or whatever. But maybe that is like a great sense of smell, getting nuts out. That's your superpower. And we all just need to, what? That's your superpower. Oh, really? That's all you've got. That's all you've got.
49:03Declan Donnelly:Oh, my God. Don't worry, guys, I'm here. Yeah, nut boy. The same of the day. You have to be a boy. You can't even be a man. With absolute power, it has to be a boy. Not a boy.
49:17Ant McPartlin:Have you got any plans for this afternoon? What are you doing today? Oh. What is that? What's that noise? What is that? That's a tombola machine back in the studio. Why have you got a tombola machine?
49:31Declan Donnelly:It's the holiday tombola. Holiday tombola. And? And we do it and we pull out a number and that number corresponds to a question. for you to answer about holidays.
49:44Ant McPartlin:You ready? Holiday Tombola. Holiday Tombola.
49:47Declan Donnelly:Yeah, I like it. This is good. Let's put the Tombola. This is actually an item. I think it's the first time on the pod we've had an item with a prop and everything. Well done. And it's up for us to be on holiday for you to come up with this. What's the number? 15. 15. 15. The question is, do you have a favourite memory of a holiday as a child?
50:09Ant McPartlin:Yeah. Well, for me, it would be being an island and running around the fields, like I say, chasing the cows and the sheep and doing all that. But I think I learned to drive in the fields. I drove a tractor and then I think I learned to drive my dad's car. When I was about 13, he taught me to drive in the field. So I really enjoyed that. That was good. And like coming back from holiday when you're 13 and going, yeah, I can drive now.
50:38Declan Donnelly:That's a flex, isn't it? What a flex that is. I learned to drive now, guys.
50:42Ant McPartlin:Yeah, I learned to drive on holiday, yeah.
50:47Declan Donnelly:That's good. That's really good. Mine was on the first holiday where I went abroad to Tenerife with my mum and my auntie, Catherine, it was me and my sister. And we walked, we had a meal at night, and it was in one of those, you know, cute and cheerful restaurants where you've got pictures of the food on the outside. but I loved it I loved everything about the smells, how warm it felt, it was walking around, I still got that memory of walking around at night and it was warm and it blew my mind that I could walk around somewhere still in shorts and a t-shirt and it still felt hot and it was only Tenerife, it wasn't like it was the Middle East you know how hot it can get in the Middle East in the summer and there was an outside arcade machine and there was like six machines and I'd just given some pesetas and I was allowed to go and play on this arcade and it was just like, I was just thinking, I'm in heaven.
51:47Declan Donnelly:That's it. Everything else can stop now. This is it. I'm playing on an arcade machine outside in my shorts.
51:56Ant McPartlin:Wasn't that holiday during a World Cup as well?
52:00Declan Donnelly:That was Italian nightly. Yeah. Yeah, it was. and we got when England played Germany it was a it was a draw went to extra time and then we were in the airport for extra time and then then it was going to penalties and we had to get on the plane and we were like oh my god it's going to penalties we had to get on the plane so we got on the plane they obviously didn't delay the plane we got on the plane and we took off and then the captain had to inform us over the tannoy that England had lost some penalties to Germany and there was men crying I remember seeing a guy with his head in his hands crying on the plane.
52:39And that's kind of when I realised what a big deal football is. That was Gaza's tears, wasn't it?
52:47Declan Donnelly:That was Gaza's tears. That was, yeah, Chrissie Waddle skying it over the ball. Gary Linegar.
52:53Ant McPartlin:Have a word with him. Have a word with him. Yeah. Yeah, it was that.
52:58Declan Donnelly:That was a big deal. But that's probably why I liked it as well, because there was proper World Cup fever in Tenerife. There was world flags all over the place. Do you remember that Italian mighty mascot? The stick figure mascot with the colours of the Italian flag. Everyone had those sticker books, those T-shirts. I love a World Cup summer. One more. One more. One more then. I'm going for a swim. Right. 47. 47. what was the first foreign food that really blew your mind oh chinese yes
53:39Ant McPartlin:chinese chinese food well when you went to china food no no i was in newcastle i think i think because it's a holiday special the question is more like when you went on holiday
53:54Declan Donnelly:what blew your mind?
53:56Ant McPartlin:Well, I've never had Chinese food until I was about 14, 15. In China? No, no, in Newcastle, in Crustice Park.
54:05Declan Donnelly:Not the question!
54:09Ant McPartlin:Do you mean what food on holiday blew your mind?
54:12Declan Donnelly:Yes!
54:14Ant McPartlin:Chinese food on holiday.
54:18Declan Donnelly:Because it's different. Slightly different. Have you ever had Chinese food in China?
54:25Ant McPartlin:No, I've had it in Singapore. It doesn't count. It doesn't count. Does it not? Nah. I've had Chinese food in Singapore. Was that just Singaporean food?
54:34Declan Donnelly:I'm not sure. Yeah, I think it was Singaporean. We had Singapore noodles. The thin noodles. Yeah, we did. Singaporean food.
54:40Ant McPartlin:And then we ordered like some sort of spicy chicken or something. And it came and it did not look like the spicy chicken from back home. Did it? No, I didn't. It's like it had been poached. Yeah, it did. Poached chicken and everything. You're like, what is that?
54:53Declan Donnelly:Well, food blew my mind. I think I'll go back to the crisps. Foreign crisps. Yeah, when you're a kid, they had stickers in the crisps. I still remember that. Eating the crisps and there were stickers inside the crisps. You know, in cereals, you used to get little toys, little figurines. Yeah. When we were kids, don't do it anymore. But on holiday, yeah, all of these crisps, the bags were bigger. Now we've got, universally, the bags are kind of the same size. it's kind of your kettle chip size or your walker size really, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. But those bigger kind of kettle chip size bags didn't really exist in the UK, but they did abroad.
55:35Declan Donnelly:So you'd go abroad, in Tannehill Reef especially, and the bags were this big with stickers in. You what? I can eat these all day and no one cares.
55:47Ant McPartlin:Well, I think that's all we've got time for. We have got pools to get to, but we will be back on Monday with another bonus we're going to do a bonus holiday special on Monday as well so we'll be back for that yeah it's been good have you enjoyed it let us know what you think
