0:31it's very peppy isn't it you like it i do like it it makes me walk like You won't know that anyway. Welcome along to the first ever Mystery Door episode of the podcast. Why do we agree to this? I don't know. Are you nervous already? Yeah, I am. I'm more nervous about this one than I was about just hanging out and chatting. Well, that's just because we're hanging out and chatting. Yeah, I suppose. We don't know what's behind that door. In this episode, there will be something behind the door. The pesky producers and Lola and Fiona have gotten something behind the door. It could be a person. It could be an animal.
1:04It could be an object. It could be a food. Food stuff. Anything? Could it be anything? Anything. Anything at all. And that will shape the content of the podcast. I'm trying to guess by their eyes. They're giving nothing away. Now, sometimes one of us may know what's behind the door. Yes, sometimes neither of us may know what's behind the door. I am happy to declare that today I do not know what's behind the door. Okay. Today I am happy to declare I do not know what's behind the door. Right, so neither of us know anything about what's behind the door. That's fair for the first one. Yes. Isn't it?
1:45I think. Good. I'm glad you didn't know. And I didn't know. I was hoping you knew. Why? Just to... I don't want to know. I don't want to know. Never make me know. Please don't make me know. I'd rather not know. Okay? He's the worst one to tell anything to. Don't tell me anything. I'm a terrible gossip. Right, we've got cards here that we haven't looked at, but we may need them during the podcast. That knock at the door symbolises that the person or thing is ready. Shall we answer the door? Shall I get it then? Yeah, get it. Oh, all right. You're impatient. Impatient.
2:30Hello. Hello. Hello. Come on in. It's a person. How are you? I'm good. Jane. Jane. Nice to meet you, Jane. Get Jane a chair, aunt. Pull along. We've got a spare mic down here. Where's your manners, aunt? Get Jane a chair. I am. I'm getting Jane a microphone as well. There you go. There's your... What's that one? I'll use this one. You use this one. This one? That's my coffee. Get your hands off. That's mine. Hands off, Jane. That's love there. Jane, I didn't know you were coming. I said, we'll have got you a coffee. This is Declan. Hi, Declan. Hi, Jane. I might not know. I don't know. Many people don't.
3:05Do you know? No. She doesn't know. That's fine. Welcome to the Mystery Door, episode one. Are you nervous? First one through the door. Yeah, first one through the door. First one through the door. What the heck are you doing here? That's up to you to find out, isn't it? Right, okay. I suppose that is the point of the thing. Do you work with people? Yes. Always people? And objects. Do you work in entertainment and show business? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Are you a lumberjack? This was disguised, my T-shirt. Oh. So I'm in hidden disguise. Which is a genuine question. Do you work in disguise a lot of the time?
3:44No. Ah, I don't know. What would you call your office? Self-register department store in central London. Ah, I know. Well, you are, what do you call them? Personal shopper. A perfumerie. No, definitely not. Do you work on the tills? No, I have staff to do that for me. Ooh. Are you Jane Selfridge? Possibly. I think I've been there for 20 years, so I would kind of say we've been there a long time. Have you? So I'm part of the family. How do you think we're going to react to whatever it is you're going to do? I think you're going to be quite, oh my God, and you're going to be, because you're very open.
4:24so I think you're going to be more into it. Oh.
4:31So you... I am very open, she's right. I'm already a bit, oh my God. So it's not adult entertainment? No. What? You went there. Definitely not. It's not, no, see? I've got to ask that question. Well, actually, over 17s only. What goes on in the middle of Selfridges nowadays? I shop online. Fine, I'm getting out. Oh! Do you work in the bikini section or lingerie section? No, we're in the lower ground central. So get your mind out of the gutter. Yes, we are not up in that department. Lower ground central? Yep, we're in the basement. Basement? Yeah, so lower ground. Glasses? No. What? This is too difficult.
5:17Right, let's just recap for a second. So you don't work with lingerie? You're not in the bikini section? No. What? You're focusing on lingerie quite a lot. Something's going on there. I do focus on lingerie a lot. I'd be more open to it. Definitely be a bit more prudish. Is it food related? No. Not food and it's not bikinis. Not interested. It's not perfume. It's not watches. No. Not perfume. It's not any jewellery. We do make jewellery. Do you do piercings? No. Could you? No. Because he needs a... I could try. He needs a piercing. You're going to have to map it out. You've passed, I think, a couple of times.
5:50On the way to the lingerie and bikini section.
5:59That's in my mouth. If you're already listening, I am drawing a bat with me on. Go down the escalator. Yeah. Yeah, homeware? Yeah. Is it natural product? Yes. Is it stone? Yes. Crystals? Crystals? Yes, crystals. Crystals? Yes, yes, well done, well done. You are a psychic? Psychic sisters. Psychic Sisters! And I'm taking this. Look, my T-shirt. This is so hot, I need to take it off. Psychic Sisters! You've been doing Psychic Sisters in Selfridges for 20 years? 20 years. Coming up, yep, 20 years. And what is it you do? Readings. We do products. We sell gemstones. We've got a massive, like, amethyst wall.
6:39So it's about 30. That's what I'm thinking of, the amethysts. Yeah. Yeah, so we've been there for ages. So we do, like, candles. We do loads of different products, bath and body oils. and then also we do readings, hypnotherapy, different types of healing, Reiki. Oh, sounds amazing. It's amazing. I'm open to all of this kind of stuff. That's what I'm saying. Deck on the other hand. He is, he's a little bit, but yeah. Are you here to do anything for us today? I am. So I can do a little reading if you want to. Yeah, please. A bit of palmistry. With tarot, could we do it for the show? Yeah, we can.
7:12Could you read the tarot cards for how successful this podcast is going to be? spine so what i generally do is just one of you want to shuffle and then we can do a whole interaction or yeah you do it you do it because you're closest all right so have a shuffle okay i'll just move your coffee you do it you do it because i'm really nervous can you shuffle them anyway like yeah my mom used to do it and i but because it was my mother did she just make it off yeah she just didn't just make it off oh i see here you have to get me a great present for christmas okay how do you want me to hand you okay so i'll lay them down This is brilliant, guys.
7:48So at the moment, you're going through a lot of transition, a lot of changes. So I'm going to say within yourself, this is something you're unfamiliar with. Yes, absolutely. So it's like you've been thrown in at the deep end. Absolutely, we have, especially today. But it's about like, is it worth it? And the answer is absolutely yes. It is. So you've been questioning it. Yes. I'm being truthful. It's like, do we want to do it? Have we got the time to do it? Where do we want to be? Oh my gosh, you saw it. You're kind of flying. So it's like, well, I want to get on a plane. I want to spend more time abroad.
8:14Me? Yeah. Yeah, I always think that. That feeling of I just want a beach somewhere. I'm not saying I'd be for necessarily, but it's that way of I just want time with my family, more time away. But it's also about this is going to empower you. So you're trying to now think outside the box and look at different ways to improve and grow your own brand because there's products definitely coming. There's products coming. From the show, yeah. So I think you're going to do T-shirts and you're going to kind of really look at like, right, what products can we do as well? Right. And then it's also looking a little bit at the US.
8:45Can we get any really big names in? So I think you're already scouting. Be there, love. Try that. You'll get there. You'll get there. You'll get there. Now that's interesting. And I think there's fire in your belly because it's different. So it's a new form of passion. Yeah. So you know that way where it's a new baby and it's like that feeling, I just want to jump in, I want to make it work. Let's work it out where we can be. And I think, to be honest, it feels constant. But then you've got to somehow find the time to make it work. So you'll think, right, we'll do a block of like a month's worth and then we'll come back.
9:13So it's just how you juggle things, but you've got to juggle your lives in a good way, which is positive. And it just feels really good. You've got a massive fear of failure, which is never going to happen. You know that. I know that. But it's more on the inside. I don't know that. You do. You just go with the flow. And I think it's also an overwhelming time of how good it's going to go. So I just get really positive thoughts and vibes. It's great. It's really good news. Brilliant. That's amazing. That's amazing. Because to be honest with you, we were very nervous about launching this. We both thought to ourselves, we want to do it.
9:46We want to have fun doing it. We want to kind of be our own bosses and we want to just have a laugh. But then, of course, you want it to work. You're right. There is a fire in our belly to make it successful. So it's that passion. When you jump in, you go, right, I'm passionate about something. It's like having a new child. Yeah. And we're passionate about this. But again, you're never quite sure whether anybody else is going to enjoy it. We did an interview in the build-up to this and we said, you know, we're doing a podcast because we've got young kids and we don't get to hang out as much. So we want to do a podcast so we can hang out.
10:15And the journalist said, have you not just thought about going out for a meal together? Yeah. I mean, he makes a fair point, if you're honest. It was a fair point. Which it is. So, you know, you're kind of nervous about will people enjoy it as much as we enjoy it? And hopefully that'll be the case. If the cards are right... It's going to do well. And I think you've got at least a 10-year roll on it. It's a long-term thing, not a short-term thing. 10 years? A long time. Oh, Jane, this is all music to our ears. So it feels good. Thank you. So I'm going to say 10 years is my thing. So I think it's going to flow and roll and roll and roll it out.
10:48And then on the back of that, which I'm going to say, there is a TV show. What? On TV? We've never worked on TV. We've never worked on TV. No. We're from the north. But I think they'll make something from it, this particular thing, then it's more about a talk show. It will lead to other things. Great. Any more there? I'm not going to push me along. Don't push you along. You haven't got the lottery numbers, Aaron. So you do tarot. What else do you do? So I can do palm reading, crystal reading. Do you want a bit of palm reading? I think palm's good. Should you do palm? Yeah. Who wants to go first?
11:24Do you want to go first? Go on. Go on. So I don't need to take my ring off? No. No. Just like that? Oh, just like that. Okay. So for anyone listening, Jane is just about to read Dex Palm. She has my palm in the palm of her hand. So within your life, you've got a lot of strength. So it's more about kind of growing up wasn't always as easy as what you needed it to be. So I'm not saying I struggled. Stop it. Be serious. Say it's struggling. So I feel it's that way of being born within family, within emotions. So it's that feeling as if you've grown. It's almost like you've been on your own, if that makes sense.
11:57So I've got to work hard for everything I achieve. So through the highs and through the lows. There's also a really strong mum energy between the pair of you. So I'm going to say spirit has always looked after you. and weirdly it's the old man syndrome on the young person's body so it's like i'm forward thinking always too old always too mature although you're going to disagree but you know his serious side and you pick people up along the way so this is almost like no he did not but you know when you go out your way to help anyone it doesn't matter how famous you are it's like i've always stayed real to who i am what i need and this is where you've done so well because you've always been honest does that make sense and then this is your family so this is being a dad and then this is about being the best man that you could possibly be to bring them up wholesome to make sure that they're respectful regardless of whether they've got a million pounds or one pence and this is about your son so this is about his energy your marriage is phenomenal I'm just going to say she's your lover she's your best friend and I'm going to say she's your everything and you know when you just know I'm there forever.
13:04And I honestly feel she's the only person you've ever really loved. Do you know what I mean? Sincerely and honestly. And if you fail tomorrow, she's the first person that's there, regardless to pick you up. And what you've got is a lot of structure. So you're very clever at planning. You've got that almost like departmentalized brain. It's the psychology in you. You analyze everything and everybody before they even walk in the room. But used to our brothers, which you know that. and it's that way of regardless of what both of you go through, it's like you're married, not emotionally, but you know like feeling of whatever we're strong as one and you are one person.
13:40And this is about looking at, let's just say the world, America crosses you many a time. It's not my place. You know that thing, I don't want to do LA or go out for a trip, but the doorway for the US is opening again. But it's whether you want it or not. Is that on my own or is he coming with me? Are you actually going to get rid of him? Do you really think not? So that's your new doorway for next year, so 2027. So see a book of photography. I don't know where that comes in. So photography used to be your way to breathe. Have you seen the pictures on his phone? I'm going to say difference. Where I parked the car, where I parked the car, where I parked the car.
14:17I do that. I think it's getting old, isn't it? Not saying you're getting old. But I think with the kids it's that way of logging everything. Yeah, yeah. So like memory banks, you know that feeling. So I feel like you go out with the kids, let's take pictures, and it's all stacked. Do you know what I mean? you put it on a hard drive but then you actually like physical photos yes so everything's out you know that feeling if we go off it's a million pictures on a wall yeah and that's just happiness does it make sense is it short flap that palm well done we love that that's really good that's amazing that is amazing okay do you want to do it my little bit yeah unfortunately we need to be more personal God your life is a rollercoaster before she's read me Bob are we doing Let's just look at the back of your hands.
15:00Let's do crystals. Let's do crystals. We don't need to read my poem. Here we are. Jane's got a bag of crystals on the table now. There's quite a few there, isn't there? There's, what, like 25, 30? Yeah, they're all different shapes and sizes. My daughter's really into crystals. At one point, she was collecting them, and then we had to go outside in the garden, charge them under the moon? Yeah, charge them under the moon or bury them. Is that a thing? You charge your crystals for the moon? Yeah, to re-energise. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Did not know. Yeah. There's so many different things. I have the torch as she charged the crystals.
15:33And I'm going to pick my favourites. This one. Right. How personal do you want to be? This is going to be good, folks. Personal as you want. This one's nice. I'm joined to that one, but I don't know if that's just because it's a funny colour. Go for it anyway. Right. So then just pick them all up and hold them for me. And then you're just going to pop your energy into them. right so i'm gonna tell you off a little bit but don't take it personally good good right okay so all the women in my life the first one so just pick one out of your hand whatever one you want the little one there is like an amethyst so that's using your intuition more you're doing a lot more meditation more in touch with your spirituality more breath work so you're kind of getting time out where you can think right i just want to learn to breathe again which is good next one Opalite is more about joyfulness, childlike energy, but it's also knowing that you don't always have to be childish.
16:29Yes. Because he finds that way where he can't be serious because then he thinks no one's going to take me seriously. So it's finding that balance. That's a cool one. That's emotion. So that's trying to find your feet and grounding. So you've had a rollercoaster of a hell and I don't think anyone really knows what you've been through. So there's times where it's like I've given up and times where I'm fighting. so I get boxing gloves so you've got to just keep going whatever way you look at it you've got your family they're your oxygen and the babies are the reason why you breathe every day next one you made me cry but it's about self-belief and you'll be alright and I don't know why this one comes to mind but that's you know everything now don't tell him that for God's sake he already felt that what that's he's got nothing new to learn no I think you just know now it's more about if he's emotional self physical self mental self, family, kids, so you know where your priorities lie.
17:22Right. Thank you so much for being our first guest on The Mystery Door. Let's hear it one more time for Gin. Thank you so much. Thank you very much. Thank you, Gin. That was wonderful. Thank you very much, Gin. Thank you. Thank you for coming. There you are. Thank you. And I'll see you past the lingerie section very soon. Bye, Gin. Bye. Bloody hell. That was intense. Oh, my God. I wasn't expecting that. They can't all be like that. They can't? Don't take us on those kind of journeys every week. I did enjoy it, though. She's good. It really is. Like the tarot cards about the show. Spot on. Ten years.
18:01Ten years we're going to be here for. Yeah. And the palms? The palm. Crazy. Great, isn't it? Just, I mean... Chris, I do believe in all this kind of stuff. You're a bit more of a closed book. How did you find it? Good. Yeah, I'm intrigued by it all. There's a door to America somewhere in my hand. Yeah, there is. Can we get in? What about that? Which one is it? Open the door. I don't want to push the wrong line. Oh, my goodness. You might be getting divorced. Don't push the wrong line. And the crystal stuff was brilliant. I love that. Crystal's good, isn't it? Really good. Do you want to pick a couple?
18:32Well, I can do, but have you got any idea? Well, I'll have a go. Well, you pick a couple and I'll let you know. I like that one, that one, that one, and that one. Right. What are they telling you? they are telling me we'll be back next Thursday for more hanging out oh he's very good I'm good he's very good spot on man see you Thursday for another hanging out until then bye bye how do we end this I don't know we'll figure it out please see you Thursday bye shall we go then yeah let's go I'm having all of these oh I'm talking come on oh I'm talking to you oh right I'll catch you up see you later I've dropped the few.
19:20That's a bad one. Is that one? Yep, that's one. See, get a bye guys! I got a fruit crystal.
