Yeah, it said it was going to run for 10 years and it's going to be a huge success and be turned into a TV show. She said the States was going to come knocking.

So we're here for another Mystery Door Monday. Yes. I hope it's not as in-depth as last week. I felt a bit... It's quite intense. Yeah, when we left here, I got stuck in loads of traffic. Thankfully, I wasn't driving. She didn't mourn you about that, did she? She didn't mourn us about that. But I just kind of learned the boxy like that. For an hour. Did you? Yeah, I did. For those that are just listening to this, and spawning a really gormless space.

1:11Yeah. Yeah. It's how I normally travel in the back of cars. Bit spaced out. Spaced out. Yeah. I should have said this last week. We went when we were 15. Do you remember? Yes. We went to a place in Winley Bay which is near Newcastle and we got our palms read. I completely forgot about this. Do you remember? Yeah. We got our palms read and do you want to know what she said? Do you remember? She said to Dec who went in first that he is going to be on stage and he's going to have a successful stage career, didn't she? That's right. She said to me, I was going to be a plumber. She did. She said, I see you work with your hands, something like your plumber or something.

1:53And my dad's a plumber. So I went, I think I jumped in and said, plumber? She went, yeah, plumber. How wrong she was. Not as good as Jane. Who said we're going to run for 10 years and be a hit in the States. We've got to make our declarations about this Monday. We do. I can declare I don't know who is behind our mystery door. Well, I can declare I also don't know who or what is behind the mystery door. Really? Yeah. So it's two weeks in a row. I thought one of us would have known this. No, neither of us do. Another one? Oh, God, I'm going to sit in the collar like that. Doorless, aren't I? Both completely in the dark once again.

3:51He's got a clipboard in front of him with officially amazing written on it. And now we know because you guys, you Guinness World Record guys, have been down to a lot of the shows that we've done. Britain's Got Talent, Saturday Night Takeaway, various shows we've done in the past. And when you guys turn up the show, something exciting is always about to happen. It's normally exciting and chaotic. Can be chaotic. Sometimes can be dangerous. It can be, yeah. It can be anything. Can we tell us why you are here? I can. I can. So I can confirm that one of you will be attempting a Guinness World Records title today.

4:26This is exciting! On the podcast today, yes, one of you will be attempting a Guinness World Records title. At this point, I won't tell you who. Okay, don't. Before we get there, can I just state, I am a genuine fan of your work. I used to get the Guinness Book of Records every year for Christmas. Of course you did. Of course, it's such a deck thing to do that. Did you get it, Lola? Every year, and it was my favourite present. I used to love it. Really? Christmas night, go through the Guinness Book of World Records. Do what with it? What would you do with the book? Just take the knowledge from it.

5:01Would you try and ever do any of them in the back garden? No, but I always kind of thought, oh, one day I would love to break a Guinness World Record. So today could be the day. Today could be the day. I think I got my first book in probably around about 1983, 1984, around then when I was about eight, seven, eight, nine. When did Guinness World Records start doing a book of world records? Right. So we started in 1955. No way. Yes. It's a lot of books for you to catch up on now. So originally the book was created by the owner of the Guinness Brewery. So there is a connection. There is a connection, but no longer.

5:38Why did he start the book? So he started the book because he was on a hunting trip with his friends. His name was Sir Hugh Beaver, which is a name that's not. I like Guinness? A name that's easy to remember anyway. And he's on a hunting trip with his friends and they can't decide what the fastest game bird is. And they're having an argument in the bar afterwards about this. So he gets to a point where he says, right, I need a book that's going to settle pub arguments. That's great. Isn't it? That is really good. Because up until then, pub arguments were settled by a fight, I presume. Or a duel.

6:11Yeah, a duel. Well, maybe not in 1955. I'm thinking more Middle Ages. No, but you know what I mean? You're wrong. No, you're wrong. All right, get outside. Let's fight about it. But no, wait. How about we just read the Guinness Book of World Records? So he has this thought, and then he goes to Fleet Street, meets the Maguertas, fact-finding twins, who then go out. The Maguerta fact-finding twins. Norris Maguerta. Norris Maguerta and his brother. Can't remember his name. Will? No. No, you're Will. I'm Will. I wasn't there. So anyway, they put this book together and they stock it in every single pub that stocks Guinness in the country.

6:48And interestingly, the first one was waterproof as well because they knew beer was going to get spilled on it. Trevor. Trevor. So yeah, and then it slowly evolved into what is now a children's publication and everything else that comes with it. And how many... God, you really are into this, aren't you? Genuinely. Like a nerd level. Yes. I'm a huge fan. Nerd level. How many records are in the current Guinness Book of World Records? So every year, we don't put all the records in the book because there's simply too many, but we have 90 ,000 titles at the moment on our system. Now, not all of them are active, so around about 70 ,000 are active.

7:24What do you mean active? like they're the ones being contested. Yeah, they're ones being contested. Yeah, sometimes things get sort of changed over the years and no longer can we monitor things for different reasons. But yeah, that's around about 70 ,000 titles at the moment that you could have a go at. Really? And this is global, right? Absolutely, yeah. So you can do this all over the world. So you've got contributors everywhere. How do you keep track of them all? It's a great question. So what we do... Great question. So what we do is we have, I mean, we do have offices all over the world and we have people who the great thing now is that people don't need to send in letters and their evidence in the post as you can imagine certain records you don't really want to receive that evidence in the post but we have an online uh where people can go and go online see a record that they like and then apply for it and then they can send in video evidence and all you would need is an independent person to be there to witness it for you and then fill in that you've done it and then we can watch the video back and hopefully get your guinness World Records title.

8:22You've got to protect the integrity. Well, exactly. Well, of course. The Guinness World Records. Someone who grew up reading these books. You know what? Anyone just, you know. Willy Nilly. Willy Nilly. Mess around with them. They've got to be... That's not your surname, is it, Nilly? No, it's not. No, it's not. Just make sure. I couldn't be that serious about records if that was my name. It's our tunicator Willy Nilly.

8:49Please change your name, my people. are there categories or records that are really popular and really hotly contested more than others? Yeah, I'd say physical fitness. People are really into that. Boring. Boring. Well, it's not that, is it? Boring or not? And you're doing as many burpees as you can. Speed eating. That's another big one. Oh, really? Yeah, I've eaten that. Yeah? Are you good? Yeah. Well, I've never tried it, but... I like watching that kind of stuff. Like hot dogs and all that. They just swallow them, don't they? Well, you've got to remember this is a career for some people. A career?

9:29A career, absolutely. You made the career of eating hot dogs. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm sure you're aware of the work of, you know, Joey Chestnut, one of the greatest competitive eaters. No. Well, you know, these are people who consistently win world titles every year at certain feats, and him in particular is a world hot dog eating champion multiple times. Do you know the work of Joey Chestnut? I do not know. I'm surprised. No, I don't. And I think, you know, the great thing is that sometimes people look at our records and they go, well, that's ridiculous. Why on earth would you spend your life doing that?

9:57But then you go, this is really, really that person's Everest. This is what they've trained their whole life to do. Has Joey Chestnut ever tried to eat chestnuts? Like speed eat them. That could be dangerous. Not that I'm aware of it. It's a great idea. Thanks. Fun on Valdemax. On some of our TV shows, we've done world record breaking attempts. Yeah. Are we in the Guinness World Records at the moment? Well, you do have an existing title. We do? Yes, you do. What? But that's for the number of NTAs you won. Ah. Tell us. Tell us what it is. I don't know whether we've updated the record recently. Well, you don't have to update it recently.

10:34We didn't know last year. 23 consecutive wins was a world record, I think. And you met my colleague Mark that day. Yes. Yes. Right. I love the TV show. Yeah. Well. Record breakers. Yeah. It'd be great to have it back, I guess. It would. Yeah, it would be great. the perfect horse to sound like that. I'm busy, but he will happily do it. So this is an existing record that we're going to try and break today? Absolutely an existing record. And this record has been held since 2012. Oh, wow. And people have attempted to try and beat it? Absolutely, yeah. And they failed? Yeah. Oh, great. Thanks, Will.

11:08That sounds tough, doesn't it? We can give it a thought on. Okay. Can we ask you some questions about it? Of course. Is it some form of physical... exertion exertion like burpees in a minute or uh press-ups in a minute not not in the purest sense but i'd be surprised if you weren't sweating afterwards yeah oh i'm gonna work a sweat up i'm gonna have to take my jumper off this is very woolly jumper is it anything to do with sports equipment nothing to do with sports equipment okay will it make us look more or less attractive to the opposite sex if we can pull this off? It's a great question. I think world records in general do make you more attracted to the opposite.

11:54I agree. I definitely agree with that. If you pull the world record, you're sexier. I agree. I definitely agree with that. Yeah, I do agree. Is it something that we will need, not necessarily sports equipment, but equipment or a prop? Yes, you will need something. Right. Why are you so obsessed with equipment? That's neat enough. I'm going to be going for this just purely me or whether I need to master a piece of equipment. So there is equipment needed? Yes. Okay. It's not the speed eating you're talking about, is it? Is it? Today, Ant will be speed eating. Yes! I love hot dogs. I love hot dogs.

12:33But I'll tell you what, though, that's hard. Is it? Well, last question. Is it hot dogs? It's not hot dogs. Hot dogs! Okay. Should we find out what it is? You will be attempting the Guinness World Records title for the most bananas peeled and eaten in one minute. Peeled and eaten in one minute. Peeled and eaten. I love bananas, Will, but you knew that, Will. You knew that. That's why you picked me. What is the current record, Stan? The current record to be is eight bananas. In one minute. In one minute. But there are some guidelines around this. Right, okay. It's very important to remember you have to eat them one at a time.

13:11Yes. In no way should the bananas be opened at all before you attempt the record. And you have to show me your mouth every time you've eaten a banana. Bush took a try. I'm a celebrity. Okay. All right. That's exciting. Are you good and it's not you? No. I just thought as a Guinness World Records Uber fan, I suppose you just want to watch. Yeah. Front row seats to the show. Front row seats to the book. It's like a book coming to life for you. I love it. And I'm the cover star. Okay, Will, bring in the bananas.

13:50Who is that? Do you know that person? For those of you listening, the bananas have been delivered. Let's move the air. By a mysterious hand. So there we go. Right, Will. Now, are these special, not special bananas, but like they must be record regulated bananas? Absolutely. These are standard commercially available bananas and they've all been weighed to make sure they're over 128 grams. Okay. Each? Yeah, yeah. Does that feel like 120 grams to you in your hand? For those listening, Dec is holding two bananas in his hands and now he's lifting weights with the bananas. Do you want to burn? Yeah, I do.

14:25Will, do you mind if I tip these out and pick me favorites then? Absolutely, you can set them up on the table how you choose. Okay, so clearly, if I want to try and break record, I'm going to go for, I see. They might be smaller, but they're thicker. because they're all the same weight. A bit like deck. Smaller but thicker. Putting them in a line. Four. Hold on. And also, you don't want them too green. No, you don't. They could be hard. They feel hard. Right, hold on. I never thought I'd handle this many bananas in one go. Got excited. I do like... If you don't know this, Will, well, you clearly do know this because this is why you pick bananas.

15:02I do love bananas. I eat a banana every day. At least one. At least one. One, two, three, four, five. Oh, God, that looks... You need to get it up to nine at least. Six. Why nine? That's breaking the record, isn't it? Wow. Could equal it with eight. Could... Oh! Seven. That's good. Hold on. If he does do it today, Will. Eight. If Anne pulls this off somehow, if a miracle were to occur, can I have my name in the book because I was here? Or is it just him? Unfortunately, he wouldn't be on the record title itself, but we can definitely bench thank you I appreciate that I'm going to put the other ones that I'm not going to use right now back in the basket so there they go so I'm going to put the basket under the table and I've got my nine out on the table in a line I think I'm going to go left to right yeah they need to be close to us I'm going to bring them a bit closer so Decon Decon peel I've got a peel yeah yeah you have to peel You have to be the one's peel.

But if you get a mouthful of a banana peel, okay that's I'm not going to eat it I don't want to fill up okay I have just had lunch though which is not a good time for you to come in why don't you come in before lunch now when we do Guinness World Record attempts on Britain's Got Talent we always have to say don't try this at home so don't try this at home Ant is a trained professional banana Rita right well I'm going to I'm going to be honest this is going to be a stretch world records are hard it's a push this is the you're going to stretch as well I'm not going to stretch my seat then this is going to be tough so I just need to make sure the bananas are placed on a table and not touching each other just move this one to the right oh I didn't realise they couldn't be touching each other hold on I'm going to make sure I can get a good grip on all of these what's the matter with you so before we have an official attempt here it is very important that I ask you do you have any known allergies or intolerances to bananas I'd hope not he got a sty in his eye from bananas we think it was from bananas we don't no it wasn't from bananas he got an orange stuck in his tear duct apparently can I drink in the middle of it people always ask us this when I'm a celebrity and we always say during a bush to take a trial you can already drink at the end of that dish can I drink during this is one of our eating records where you can sip water however I'll get some water however I think it might however slow you down in this attempt just as a piece of coaching and remember you have to show me your mouth in between each banana it's like I'm a stephanie right I'm going to give you a clear countdown from three I'm sweating you out he said you'd be sweating he hasn't even opened a banana yet okay can I start with one of my hand no I don't know my hand's flat on the table for me flat on the table what is this like a good thing I'm going to draw me good I'm like a cowboy western this is so good Oh, it's flat on the table.
