In short

Walker Scobell, star of Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, discusses filming Season 2 (especially episode 4), the transition to Season 3, action/stunt details, fandom, and his favorite superhero franchises.

Guest backgrounds

Walker Scobell is a young actor (about 16, turning 17) who plays Percy Jackson. The host is Josh Horowitz (Happy, Sad, Confused). The live event includes castmates mentioned as present/absent (Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, and others like Levi, Olive, Dior, Daniel, Charlie, etc.), but Walker is the featured guest.

Key claims

Episode 4 is his favorite and he’s excited because it sets up Season 3. He says Season 2 had more action than Season 1. He describes filming the Ironclad/water sequence as about five days and says the “monster not there” reactions should be over-the-top. He credits first ADs for explosion timing and says he’s best at “looking like he doesn’t know what he’s doing” during fights.

Notable examples

Ironclad being built, then taken apart and reassembled tilted eight degrees for a single sequence; running away from explosions; a stunt where he was grabbed and “flat-backed” after a last take; fans swarming him on the Ocean City boardwalk; wanting Timothée Chalamet’s “Marty Supreme” jacket; and casting talk about Mason Thames as “Rachel.”

Is Mason Thames going to be on Percy Jackson at some point? I would like him to be. I mean, I think that'd be awesome. Who does he play? Let's cast him. What do you got? That's what I'm trying to think. Maybe he could be... Who do you guys think he should be?

1:11Rachel! Yeah, Rachel's perfect. I like that. He could be Rachel. Prepare your ears, humans. Happy, sad, confused begins now. Hey guys, it's Josh. Welcome to another edition of Happy, Sad, Confused. Today on the show, Percy Jackson himself. Walker, Scope, Bell, talking all things Percy, and much, much more. Hey guys, thanks as always for tuning into the podcast, for watching on YouTube or Spotify, wherever you're enjoying this. I appreciate you guys. This was a wild, big live event at 92nd Street Y, our last live event of the year, and we truly went out in style. Sold out crowd. about 850 screaming Percy Jackson Walker Scobell fans.

1:59You're going to enjoy this one. Before we get to all that, some quick notes. Not much to say except I hope you guys are having a great holiday. I hope you're having a little time off maybe to spend with friends and family. I do want to say we do have one very exciting event. Actually two, but I think only one I can say right now because tickets are officially on sale for me and Tom Hiddleston. Enough said, right? Right. Happy, say, confused. All-star Tom Hiddleston is returning, talking all things The Night Manager Season 2. And, of course, we'll hit on some other stuff, too. You know, if you've seen my stuff with Tom, I don't need to sell you on it.

2:35It's going to be a really fun night back at 92nd Street Y. What a way to start 2026 with Tom Hiddleston. So link is in the show notes to get your tickets now. I'm sure this will be a packed house. Get in on it. And I think there's an online option, too, to watch virtually. But, yeah, looking forward to that one. Okay, so just a little preamble on this episode. Walker Scobell, one of our younger guests probably in the history of Happy, confused, but he is such a charming, sweet, talented young guy. So happy this worked out. He's been on the pod technically before because he's been on with his co-stars from Percy Jackson, but this time it was front and center, all Walker Scobell.

3:17Of course, the second season of Percy is going right now on Disney+. I will say we screened episode four prior to this event. So best to maybe catch up and see episode four before watching or listening to this, because we do talk about specifics of that episode. It's, by the way, a really stellar standout episode. And I think one of Walker's favorites. And yeah, just like a very sweet, cool young man. I think he's 16. I think he's about to turn 17. and to hold the screen as a presence at that young age is very impressive. And then to, you know, walk out on a stage in front of nearly a thousand people, be chill enough to kind of handle it.

4:01I couldn't have done it when I was his age. So my thanks to Walker, to everybody at Disney +, his whole team for making it happen. And hopefully we'll do more because, yeah, he's, I mean, the fan base for Percy and Walker. I feel the love, guys, and he does too. So, I guess without any further ado, let's go to that conversation recorded at the 92nd Street Y. You're going to hear a lot of cheering, a lot of excitement. It's me and Percy Jackson himself. It's Walker Scobell. Hi, guys. How's it going? I gather it's going well. Welcome to the 92nd Street Y, everybody. My name's Josh Horowitz. I host a podcast called Happy, Say, Confused, and we are ending the year in style.

4:45You guys have sold out the 92nd Street Y. Give yourselves a round of applause.

4:53I know why you have, because it is rare, I find, when an iconic role is cast with the absolute perfect actor. Percy Jackson is Walker Scobell. Walker Scobell is Percy Jackson. Are you enjoying the new season, guys?

5:14As I said, this is our last big event in New York of the year, and I'm so thrilled you all have come out for this. Walker's been on the stage before with some of his castmates, but tonight he's going solo, so make him feel welcome. Give him a big warm welcome. It's Walker Scobell, everybody!

5:47I'm nervous. I've never done this without Leah or Arian. I know. Where's your backup? Did you bring any backup today, just in case? No, they left me. They went home for Christmas. How can we make you feel comfortable? I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable, Walker. How about this? On the count of three, we're all going to say, you've got this, Walker. Okay, you ready? One. One, two, three. You've got this, Walker. This place is really full.

6:26Who would you come out? Like the fans came out for you. Who would you sign up, buy a ticket for, scream your head off? Concert, actor. Is there anybody? I would say... I would say maybe... I don't know. Right now, I want to see Marty Supreme, so maybe Timothee Chalamet. That would be awesome. Have you met Timothee Chalamet yet? No, I've never met him, but I really want one of those Marty Supreme jackets. Right. I think that's going to happen in your future. I predict it. I hope so. So, you've done a lot of your press. We've done a lot of press together, but a lot of it has been with Arian and Leah.

7:07By now, I feel like you could answer their questions for them. So, Leah, what's the best part of working with Walker now, would you say? I mean, he's just so dedicated, and he's amazing. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Arian, any goofy things happen on set with Walker at any point? Oh, I'm boring. I don't remember anything. I did ask some of your castmates to describe you in three words. Oh, no. You ready? No. See if you can guess which castmate said this. Funny, leader, kind. Daniel. It's Dior. Okay, yeah. That's nice. That's nice. Hardworking, loyal, passionate. That's Daniel. It's Arian, actually.

8:03That's Arian? This is like the fourth or fourth time he said something nice about me. We've been doing a press tour for like three weeks. He also said, he gave me a few, he said also less cool Levi. Okay, yeah, that makes, I actually agree with that. Can you explain the context of that? Levi's a new cast member, obviously, right? Yeah, Levi plays Nico D 'Angelo, who's amazing, by the way. Yeah, no, he's, honestly, he's better than all of us in like every single way. Is he cooler, though, as Arian said? Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm totally fine to admit that. He's amazing. I'm sitting in – it's actually – we're filming season three.

8:41We took a break for this, and we're going right back after Christmas. But I'm – a lot of my – because Leah's, you know, not present for a lot of it. So I'm – you know, most of the time it's just me, Olive, and Levi. Olive plays Bianca in the school trailer. And I'm the one that's, like, disturbing everything, and I'm not doing any work. I feel like they're, you know, more mature than I am. Impossible. Though I do appreciate it, I know you've talked about this. I want you to feel more comfortable because I, a very elder man, do not have a driver's license, Walker.

9:18Every single time. Every single time. I'm sorry. No, you know what? It's endearing. It's nice. It's good. Who needs a driver's license when you have Uber? No, exactly. Exactly, and also, let's, I mean, okay, who actually knows how to parallel park perfect every time? I don't know anybody. No one I want to hang out with, right? No, I agree with that. The best drivers fail once or twice. It builds character. Maybe we should take our driver course together. Maybe we should both get our license together. That's the first thing I'm doing when I get home. I'm doing that, and then I'm going to bed for a couple days.

9:56Right. Is it weird, though, like, you've had this experience a few times when you're doing press, when you're already in the middle of something. Like, you're in the middle of season three right now. So are you ready for both the holiday break but also to get back to set? Because that's really where you're having fun, right? Making the show. No, totally. I mean, even hearing you guys just now after episode four. Did you like episode four? That's my favorite episode, definitely, by far. I actually watched that this morning. And I haven't... I was just imagining all that and actually seeing that it looked insane uh but yeah no all i want to talk about is like season three because we're in the middle of filming it and all i want to do is get back and like hearing that makes me want to like get back to work you know so it has been correct me if i'm wrong right in the in the timeline i think it's almost exactly four years since you were cast it was january 2022 do i have that right yeah about the news oh my god it's been four years i'm already yeah I'm older than the prophecy already happened for me does it feel like four years?

11:04does it feel like yesterday? when I say that it seemed to blow your mind when I said that I haven't thought about that at all because I always just think about when we were filming season one and I was like you know I was almost 14 at that time so that is weird to think about I'm going to be like 40 years old by the time this is over and Logan Lerman's still going to be young enough to play Percy Jackson Is there anything you wish you'd known back on day one, now that you're knee deep in season three, you've done the press gauntlet a few times, talk to young, innocent Walker on that first season?

11:38I don't think I've learned that much since then. I feel like the same guy, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. take me back a little bit when you when you auditioned do you remember in the room knowing that you had a beat on this character did you have a sense that this was this might pan out well it was weird because i i auditioned for that during the adam project when we were filming that and uh then we you know i i got pinned i heard i got pinned and then i didn't hear anything it was in january and then they you know call me back up early december which was like an entire year and uh then i got a couple more calls and it was this was like i got cast completely just from like zoom calls just from my home uh so i guess in a way it was a bit of a gamble for them they'd never seen me before the first time they saw me was when i was doing the chem reads with um leah oh wow uh yeah that february so had you been already cast when they started to bring in arian and leah you had already been cast as percy yeah that must have been interesting like do you remember then your perspective on because like like did they ask your opinion when like actors were coming through uh yeah kind of they would i mean you know i feel like you can kind of just see right away who is chemistry and i feel like you know ari and leah and i just kind of it almost felt like our audition like their audition scenes went the fastest because we just clicked right away and there wasn't like i don't know sometimes when it's not clicking it feels like it's taking a really long time.

13:11The scene is dragging on. It felt like the scenes happened really fast. I don't know. You could just kind of feel it. I wasn't too sure about Aryan at first. I'm still not. Maybe at the end of the season he'll prove to me. We should say Walker insisted on Aryan not being here tonight. It was initially going to be everybody. He's still here. He's still here. You walked him in a closet back there. That poor guy. Oh yeah. I came out here. There was a curtain. I shoved his chair off the side.

17:12I'm trying to earn brownie points with my nieces tonight, so Sadie and Sienna want to know, how was shooting season two different than season one? Biggest difference for you? Biggest difference. I think there was a lot more action. It felt like, I don't know, season one it was just Ari and Leah and I the whole time. So it was, you know, we were in all these different places together. And this season, it felt like, you know, Charlie was there almost the entire time. Dior was there almost the entire time. We had Daniel, who fit in perfectly. And I feel so bad when I'm watching all these. Like, he just looks so cute on screen.

17:48Not that he's not cute in real life. I don't know. Yeah, no, definitely. I mean, he is. But, no, but even, like, it was hard for me to be mean to him when we were filming a lot of these scenes. But now watching it back with the eye, it makes me feel even worse. I go to bed feeling horrible every night because of that. What did that look like on set? Does he have anything up to you? They didn't put any dots or anything. He doesn't have to act a certain way. It's just all him. It came together perfectly. And his posture, the way he walks. I was watching earlier. I was laughing at the scene where he goes to check in the boiler room.

18:31He does that like waddle away. Actually, he was doing, I can't remember. I'm going to make fun of him a little bit. But there was this one day where like, at the beginning, the very first episode, we're running away from Les Stragonians. And he's doing this like half jog thing. And halfway through the rehearsal, they told him to stop doing the Tyson run. And he walked over to me and was like, I'm just running.

18:57I will say and I heard you say before I saw this episode that like this was a standout episode for you and now I see why how epic was episode 4 guys like it's pretty

19:13did you have a sense of how it would turn out I mean obviously there's a lot of water Walker that's a lot of water Did it blow your mind being on set? Did it blow your mind seeing the finished product? Give me a sense of your perspective on this episode in particular. I mean, the whole Ironclad sequence, all this stuff was like, I mean, just watching them build the Ironclad, because it's all on the same stage, was just incredible. And so we filmed a lot of the stuff before we get pulled into Charybdis' pull. They built out the Ironclad, and then we took a break from filming for a week. in that week they took apart the ironclad completely like every little piece and they tilted it eight degrees and they put it all back together just for that like one sequence where i'm running and people are getting pulled out around me uh and for when i stand up and like try to you know uh i guess slingshot the ironclad out the other side um i mean when i've talked to actors over the years like generally speaking the thing they dread most are water scenes it's tough, right?

20:18I mean, it's amazing. Obviously, it's worth it, but how many days, how many weeks are you drenched for this episode? I mean, we filmed this for like, that was probably five, you know, it wasn't as bad as season one. It was probably about five full days. But I mean, even while filming it, I was like, this better look amazing because you're shooting like a thousand PSI water into my face. But no, yeah, it was, it looks incredible. I mean, I was, like, shocked when I was watching it earlier. Just, like, the whole scene of the ironclad being, like, taken apart in midair. That's, like, like, we just imagined that on the day.

21:01And also, like, watching back sometimes, I'm like, I feel like if I knew that's what it looked like, I would have looked a lot more terrified. I was, like, weirdly stoic during that, not to, like. No, but it works. I mean, you look pretty darn cool in that sequence. I mean, standing on the bow, like, that must be, that's like, you know, that's superhero mode. That's like, that's pretty epic to see the finished product. Do you remember seeing it when they sent you the dailies or you saw the finished product and saying like, oh my God. This was the first time I saw, the only thing I ever got sent, like from, like, I guess dailies wise, was the video of me doing the Titanic thing with Daniel.

21:40But no, this is, I'm actually, I kind of like that I saw it the same night that you guys did, because, I don't know, I was really looking forward to this episode and I'm really happy with how it turned out. And that whole fight, the single combat thing with Clarice, I like the way that turned out. Yeah. Do you take pride in fight choreography? Has that evolved? Are you the best in the cast, do you think, at fight choreo? I think I'm the best in the cast at looking like I don't know what I'm doing while I'm fighting. Well, that helps. It does really help and I'm really good at that. it just comes really naturally for some reason.

22:18But no, I think, you know, I would think, I think Dior does a really good job. She's amazing. And she has to look confident. She has to look like she's on it. Yeah, and I just have to fumble around and I do that perfectly, I think. But no, it is like a progression and I feel like I'm kind of naturally, like it was a big break between seasons one and two and I grew a lot and I was, like when I got there, it was like that stuff just came naturally because I was so like lanky. I hadn't like moved in like years. So doing those fights, it just kind of matched up with season two. And, you know, in the book he says he's rusty and I was definitely rusty while filming those scenes.

23:01By season six, you're going to be like nine feet tall. It's just at this exponential rate. I hope so, yeah. That'd be amazing. How are you at running away from explosions? This is the mark of any true action star. You get to do that, I think, in this episode. I'm getting really good at that. That's the only compliment I'll give myself. I'm really good at running away from explosions. But no, yeah, and Daniel is too. What's the key? If you were teaching a master class and had to run away from an explosion? I'm going to give, you know what? I have to give all the credit to the first ADs because normally they'll have a big mic and there'll be speakers like this.

23:38And normally they talk about, but they talk at this volume, and then they kind of just try to catch you off guard, so then they'll just go boom, like super loudly into the mic. So you just kind of can't expect it, I guess. And what about in terms of reactions? Reaction to a monster that's not there. What's the do's and don'ts? What's the right way to react to some epic monster that's actually not there? What's the wrong way to do it? I think you just kind of have to go over the top. Go extreme. Oh, yeah. Don't go subtle. I feel like it's so much easier to make it look like you're less scared on camera than it is to make it look like you're more scared than you actually were on the day.

24:21So I think you should always just go over the top. And also you never know what it's going to look like. Sometimes we're terrified of these random little things that end up not being that scary. And then there'll be a giant ironclad sequence or whatever. Too cool for school. I mean, I guess I was kind of terrified because they had like four cameras in these cranes and they were just swinging them around like all of us, with different people being pulled in different directions, all these amazing stunt guys just being like, there's a bunch of pads all around the ship and they would have all these people on their line and they'd be walking on the ship and then this dude next to them would just be like, bam, on the line and they'd just get ripped off the side.

25:04It was terrifying to watch. Stunt you're proudest to have nailed Whether it's in season one, two Or if you want to hint at something in three I think I want to hint at something in three I had this awesome It was the end of the day And I I was fighting this person And And I'm running away from them and they grab like Something on my back And then I my feet go up in the air and I flat back it. They didn't really want me to do it because safety or something. Exactly. It was the end of the day, so I was like, okay, this is the last take, I'll just do it. My stunt double, I'd been doing it the entire day.

25:56I was like, he gets to do it this entire time and he looks totally fine when he gets up. I sprinted in the other direction, they grabbed my back, and then I land like flat on my back and I got up and I ran around and I'm like, dude, that was awesome. And everyone like started clapping and I was like, that's why they don't want me to do it. It like completely knocked the wind out of me. I was not prepared for it. But it ended up looking really good so I hope they keep it in. Have you learned your lesson? Does that mean you're going to do less going forward or are you going to keep asking for more?

26:26I kind of want to do more. I don't know. It's a weird thrill. I don't know. Have friends, fellow actors angled to get on the show? Basically what I'm asking is, is Mason Thames going to be on Percy Jackson at some point? I would like him to be. I mean, I think that'd be awesome. Who does he play? Let's cast him. What do you got? That's what I'm trying to think. Maybe he could be... Who do you guys think he should be? Rachel. Yeah, Rachel's perfect. I like that. He could be Rachel. but no yeah that would be great I think you know the goal is to try to get as many like I don't know friend actors on the show as possible because I think it's just so fun and like you know the entire cast we're already such good friends it'll be so fun to just add more people that we're already all friends with to just hang out with you know how do you know someone like that like were you up for the same roles like is it just like when you're of a certain age and you're doing the thing you run into them It's weird because it happens in the weirdest ways.

27:29I mean, I guess with Mason, like, both of us, like, you know, we'd be, like, swiping up on stories, being like, dude, like, looks awesome. And one day I was like, you know, it was a new Fortnite season. This was, like, December. It was after I got back from the season one press tour, and I was like, you want to play Fortnite? And he was like, yeah. And that's how it all started. But, no, with, like, other people, like, you know, you'll just run into them somewhere, and you'll just happen to get along really well. And then that just kind of, you know, kicks everything off. and it's just random.

27:57Everyone knows everyone. It's super weird. Since we have the luxury of time, I want to talk a little bit about what you're a fan of because I've heard you talk about this a bit and you have good taste. Growing up, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, everything, all of the above, rank them. Give me your top franchises, the things you were really into when you were a little kid. Marvel was like maybe, that was my thing. there was a point where like I could tell you I mean I don't know I haven't been I've been a little busy recently but I got it when I you know what have you been doing oh yeah the show just the show when I rap I will you know I have to catch up but uh no yeah Marvel was like the big one when I was a kid that was you know it was that and then it was like specifically like Green Lantern from DC and I was really into the flash show like grant gustin awesome i hope he plays the flash again um but yeah no i've just like spider-man was like that was my guy forever and which spider-man is your actor is your guy specifically i grew up watching andrew garfield and i think he's i don't know i'm like extremely excited for brand new day though yes and i don't know i feel like i don't know again i love toby mcguire but like andrew is like it's just it's like nostalgic for me because like that was like that those came out you know when i was growing up uh so but i don't know tom is like tom holland's looking really good like i'm i'm i'm really excited for uh brand new day and i love how they're going for like the classic spider-man like yeah uh you know i guess this classic like catching robbers and stuff like that right back to basics kind of street level stuff exactly yeah yeah um at what point then working with ryan reynolds do you bring up green lantern because he has mixed feelings like that's not necessarily he doesn't look back at that film as the high point of his career i think i don't know i think he he likes talking about it the same way that i like talking about failing my driver's test like i think it's i think it's pretty hilarious.

30:11I'm not too happy about it, but it's also like, it gives me something to talk about, and it's like, it's like, it's, I don't know. It's, the best drivers fail once or twice, like I said. Right. But no, I... And the best actors have a film or two that doesn't work. Exactly. And I think, you know, in my opinion, I loved him as Green Lantern. He was like my, like, I mean, we haven't seen 20 Green Lanterns, but I loved that movie, and you know, ever since I was a kid, I've loved it. I had a Green Lantern-themed birthday party. What does that entail? Are you dressed as Green Lantern or just... No, I mean, I had a Green Lantern shirt on.

30:47And then I had a ring. That counts. And then I gave rings to other people. Nice. And I had a Green Lantern cake. But yeah, I don't know. I kind of immediately brought up that, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. And I don't know. It was the first day I met him, we were doing... Because we had to quarantine. It was during COVID. Right. So we quarantined for two weeks. I did a chem read with him but that was the last time I saw him and so we did like a rehearsal on like a Sunday or something for the one scene we were doing and he just like immediately took me under his wing and I feel like I learned so much on that I definitely wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him and Sean and Mark and Jen which is like insane because the reason I got into acting was because I loved Marvel and then I immediately got to work with all the Marvel people.

31:42Literally. Everyone you just mentioned. Sean directed Deadpool 3 and now he's directing Star Wars. Did you get a visit to the set? Do you have any inside intel on the new Star Wars film? I don't, but I tried to get Stranger Things intel, but he wouldn't give me anything. But I'm kind of fine with that. Just keep it in a secret. I'm nervous for this, for Volume 2.

32:07It's really stressing me out. Yeah, they keep talking up the finale. Like, the finale is going to be epic. Does epic mean casualties? Like, what's going, you know? I just hope that everybody lives happily ever after. That's what I hope happens. How many superhero auditions have you had in your young career? I haven't had any yet. Literally? I guess this counts. Sure. Right? Besides Percy. Yeah, Percy's a superhero. But that surprises me, given this day and age and how much is being made. Is that something you're kind of, if the right thing comes, what's your attitude about that as a fan? As a fan, it's like, I don't know.

32:47Sometimes it's difficult because I don't want to ruin anything for myself. You know what I mean? Even Percy Jackson, I still watch his show and I still love it, but it's really hard to just look at my face all the time on screen. You know what I mean? Everybody here agrees. We are sick of looking at your face on the screen. I'm getting real tired of it. But no, it is like, you know, it's, I want to watch it and enjoy it as a fan. So it's like, if the right thing comes along, that's like, I would be 100 % on board. But like, I don't know. I think I also want to like experience it as a fan, you know?

34:33The last time you guys were up here, I remember you were pretty bold in saying basically Percy Jackson versus Harry Potter in a fight. It's not even a contest. Give me a break. Basically, you just missed it.

34:46I'm just curious, like when you were growing up before this all happened, were you reading both? If I had asked you at 10 years old, do you prefer Percy or Harry Potter, what would you have said? I would have said the same exact thing. You would have said Percy. Oh, 100%. 100%. I think, I don't know. I just think with Percy, at least, I feel like there's just a lot more to relate to. But then again, I feel like there's so many people that relate to Harry Potter. But he, I really hope one day we can, I really want to meet the cast from the movies. Also the cast from the show. I'm really excited to see how that works out.

35:20Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's one thing to talk about beating up Daniel Radcliffe, like an adult guy, but now talking about beating up a 12-year-old kid, Walker. Yeah. That's not cool. You can't say that. Well, technically, I'm still 12 in the show. I want to manifest new work for you. So you've played one iconic screen character. I'm going to give you some iconic characters and lines. Can you give me your best shot at some of these lines and see how they go? Let's do it. Okay, here we go. One at a time. This is it. A lot riding on this. With great power comes great responsibility. I like that one.

35:58That's pretty solid. That's Spider-Man for you. Here we go. Now, I need a growl here. I need, like, a little gutter. Oh, no. Here you go. I can't do this. Wait, okay, so do you want... You want Christian Bale, Batman? Do you want Ron Pattinson? It's up to you. It's up to you. I'll do Robert Pattinson. I'm Batman. Get it? Because you can hear me. Which, by the way, that wasn't a hit on that at all. Just because it's that. I'm so excited for the Batman 2. I love those movies. Matt Reeves, amazing director. Also, what are they going to do for the new DCU Batman? Yeah, they're going to do another Batman, it sounds like.

36:35Brave and the Bold. Nervous. Who's your Batman? Who's your Batman? I liked, you know what? I liked Brennan's Sklenar. He wants to play it. What do you think? I feel like he's a great pick. I feel like he's a great pick. But I don't know. we kind of we've had so many great Batmans I feel like at this point like I don't know there's I mean we kind of have like you know Ben Affleck's like the really big Batman Christian Bale like the really dark and I guess like kind of you know he's kind of a mix between like Robert Pattinson and like Pattinson's like the extreme of brooding right like totally total extreme Keaton's a little kind of like odd like a little crazy yeah and then yeah I don't know I'm Clooney I just want them to do the blue and gray suit that's like my favorite Batman suit.

37:23One more for you. I don't know how your British accent is. Oh, it's not good. I actually just watched all the James Bond movies. So you're ready. James Bond. James Bond. Did a pretty good job, actually. Not bad. Not bad. Also, yeah, they're doing a new James Bond series, too. I know they're casting that, too. A lot going on, man. I kind of want Callum Turner. He's the favorite, supposedly. I don't know. I don't know. I just got to... Or him or like completely unknown. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. This is our new show. Or Damson Idris. I would be happy to talk movie rumors with you every day. Let's just make this a new show.

38:07True. Let's talk about the aspect. I'm going to go to some of your fan questions. You've sent in a lot, so thank you for that, guys. Handling all the craziness around this show. I mean, nothing can prepare even like 35-year-olds for the level of success and fame you've had. Did anybody adequately kind of convey to you what this was going to be like when you signed on to be Percy in terms of that kind of reception and just the kind of love you receive? I feel like there's not really like a way that you can prepare for it, you know, just because it's so different every time. And I think I just kind of watched a lot of interviews of like Daniel Radcliffe talking about it.

38:47And Logan Lerman gave me some advice, which is amazing. But yeah, I got a lot of good advice from different people. And yeah. Is there any advice that you can share without violating anything that's been useful for you? I think Logan told me, he said, just enjoy it. Like enjoy the process. And I feel like, you know, season one, I was enjoying it the whole time. But I was so focused on, you know, trying to get it right that I wasn't, you know, trying to, like, I guess, enjoy it. So now it's like, you know, when I was going into season two, I was like, I'm really going to appreciate every moment of it.

39:27And I did. And it was just so much fun. And I'm doing that right now for season three. So it's, yeah. No, it's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun Especially like I don't know There's a lot of days There's always gonna be days Where like It's the middle of winter And you're soaking wet outside For some reason But I feel like You just gotta find What's like I don't know Fun or like hilarious in it And especially like That's why I have Arian Like he He really makes me feel You know He makes fun of me a lot In those ways In like a In a really nice way He like Arian and I feel like I really like And Leah does the same thing We're all just kind of we just kind of make jokes when it would not be a good time to make a joke.

40:11And I feel like that's what really makes my day. When you are recognized, you're at a Starbucks, you're at a restaurant, does a fan ever literally just scream if they recognize you? They just instantly see you? How big does the reaction get? The biggest one so far was actually I was in Ocean City. I was on the boardwalk. And there was like, have you ever been to Ocean City Boardwalk? it's like crowded there's like a ton of like like high schoolers like that age range or like middle school high school I got like swarmed and there were like screams and I had to like I felt like I was such a I don't know like a prick but I was like please like guys like just please like we're being really like it's it's it's getting because it started like attracting people we didn't know who I was and I was taking pictures and they'd be like what like so what do you do and I was like oh no.

41:05Yeah. Once you get to the point of like people just wanting photos and not even realizing why they want a photo, then you've gone, it's getting serious. Yeah. Um, so you're on Tik TOK, but you're not really on Tik TOK. I checked your Tik TOK. You've posted twice. So you're really laboring over the next post. You're really thinking it over. You're like, what's it going to be? It took me a while for like, even Instagram. Like I just posted something recently. It's pretty, big deal for me to sit down and put things together. I don't know. I don't know why it's so difficult for me to do this. I guess this is the one thing that I was never prepared for was having to post all the time.

41:44I feel like, yeah, I've been thinking about making a post possibly after I get my driver's license. It's a big if. Yeah, a big if. If it happens. Or just posting a picture of my perfect parallel parking job. There you go. You must be plugged in, though. Do you get friends and family sending you fan edits, memes, the latest, everything and anything? Yeah, I think... I have a lot of cousins on my mom's side. So I think every year when I go there, they have new stories of different encounters they had at college or school where they would hear people talk about it. And even like, you know, I have really little cousins and they still can't like wrap their heads around it.

42:35And they all love like Percy Jackson. So they're like, you know, I'll be talking to them and I'll be like, you know, their mom will tell them like this is, you know, he's Percy. You watch him. And they just say no. Like he's not. They just, I actually had a really weird interaction. I never talked about this. I had an interaction on Halloween during season two where I was at my friend's house handing out candy and these two kids came up and they were both in Camp Affleck t-shirts and I was like, oh, like, who are you guys? And they were like, oh, I'm like, we're Percy and Annabeth. And I was like, oh, like, that's really cool.

43:09Actually, you guys want to hear something cool? And they were like, yeah. And I was like, I'm Percy Jackson. And like this, the little boy was like, no, you're not. It was like the first thing he said. so I shut the door so fast. No candy. There's a lesson there. Don't even try. Don't even like, by the way, Percy Jackson here. I don't think so. I don't know. Yeah, I don't even know why I felt like I should do that. You had good intentions. I did. I also had, I've had a lot of weird, I'm sorry, I'm going to keep dragging on about this. They keep coming back to my mind and I need to get them out.

43:46Lieback therapy. They opened a crumble cookie where I live and this kid like stopped me at the door, and it was, it's like a super crowded, like it first opened up, lying like down the street, and I was walking out, and I was like, this kid stopped me in like the doorway, so we were blocking everybody, and he was like, wait, like, are you Percy Jackson? I was like, yeah, and he just stared at me, and it was like, maybe like 30, 30, 40 seconds, and I was like, okay, like I need to move this, I need to move this along, I don't want him to like walk away from this, maybe like regretting not asking for a picture, even though it feels weird to ask him if he wants a picture with me.

44:24So I was like, you know, do you want a picture? And he went, no. And so I turned around and I sprinted to the car. Did you get your cookie? I did. Okay, good, good. So I kind of evened it out. Wow. There's a lot of these. Snapshot into your life. Fascinating. Yeah, these are like stuck. I think about these all the time. So they just saw episode four. I've been privileged enough to see the first seven. It's awesome. Sorry. It's really great. I haven't seen eight yet. Give us a little sense of what you're excited for fans to see. First on this season, then we're going to tease season three, which I know is even harder.

45:07But the rest of this season, what are you excited for fans to see? I think it perfectly sets up season three. I don't know, episodes 7 and 8 just kind of take it in a different direction which I really love for the next three books in the series because books 1 and 2 are kind of like a really big introduction and I feel like once you start to get into the great prophecy and dealing with all that kind of stuff like we are right now I mean, us filming season 3 it just kind of it's a completely different level and yeah, I don't know. I think it just, like I said, it just goes in a different direction.

45:51It's a little bit darker. Is the vibe on set season three different? Are the sets standing out to you? If we were visiting you, would we sense a different kind of vibe on set of season three versus the first two? Oh, definitely. I mean, I feel like even season two is just like a, I feel like when season three, Leah's not there, you know, the book's been out for a long time there are books? what? but you know and with this season Aryan not being there a ton it's like it's the same thing it's like you're just missing a guy or you're missing a person and so it's like I don't know it just feels different it feels like something's missing but it's still you know great I get to hang out with Aryan all the time and T who plays Thalia who was amazing in this episode and and Sarah who plays Zoe who's you haven't seen her yet but she's perfect I think it's a really and then obviously Olive for a good chunk of the quest she did an amazing job yeah is there a in the illustrious you know adult cast you know the luminaries like Lynn etc is there an actor that's made you a better actor to act opposite that stands out to you?

47:15I'm in a scene with Rosemary DeWitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda. What's a moment on set where you're like, oh, wow, they're raising my game by being so great? I definitely, someone I'm better with. I feel like, I don't know, I feel like I always have to step my game up when I'm working with Adam Copeland. That guy, yeah. He's just, my favorite thing, and this goes for every single guest star that we've ever had on Percy. they all come in and they just go full confidence into everything. And I feel like, even like, I've known the entire crew for like three years, and I still feel uncomfortable screaming around them.

47:55And that's what I do all the time. But they come in and they just kind of make these big offers, and it works out perfectly. And it's like, that just, every single one of them. the only person that I feel like I get worse with in the best way is Jason Manzoukas because I'm having such a hard time trying to like not laugh that I feel like I'm just like it's just there's been a couple people like that specifically Jason though where and Timothy Simmons I was gonna say yeah Tim's very funny he's like they're improv together is like I don't even know like there's a reason that you don't see my face a lot in those scenes it's because Leah and I are trying not to like because sometimes like even if you try to like you know they'll improv a lot if you try to like I don't know sneak a line in there it's like it just turns back on you and there's just you're just never going to be smart enough to keep up at least I'm not no Manzoukas is like the best improv guy on the planet oh yeah so that's that's tough little season 3 teaser Levi actually is like the only person I've ever seen that's been able to match that.

49:09I know that sounds weird, but he is like, he just completely, I don't even know how to explain it. How old is Levi? He's 13. Wow. Less cool Levi right here. Yeah, I know. We end every Happy Second Fuse podcast with the profoundly random questionnaire. You ready, Walker? Some rapid fire for you. Ready. Dogs or cats? I feel bad. I guess I'm going to say dog. You can still like it. I love cats. Okay. What do you collect, if anything? What do you got?

49:48Do you keep anything? It's something I used to collect. I used to have a lot of... I have a screen-accurate Spider-Man costume. Really? Yeah, I do. It doesn't fit me anymore. I don't know why I bought it. But I have it. Just in case. You have to fight crime. I have a lot of weird movie weapons. I have a lot of katanas. Like memorabilia from actual memorabilia or replicas? Just like replicas. Not total. I have a couple of Demon Slayer katanas. Because me and my brother used to go play Fruit Ninja. Don't do that. It's way heavier than you'd think it'd be when you're swinging it. What's your favorite video game of all time?

50:30Ghost of Tsushima was awesome. Spider-Man 2

50:39I can't pick a favorite What's the most time sucked out of your life? Definitely Fortnite or Minecraft I've spent way too much time on Fortnite I also think Ari and I spent on season 1 we were really into Sea of Thieves I spent a lot more time than I should have on that too What's the wallpaper on your phone?

51:07I think it's just the sky. The current weather. The current weather is on my phone. You know what? It was actually Arian for a little bit. It was a really horrible picture of Arian. A happy photo of him? Not a good picture. Not a good picture. That tracks. That makes sense. But I just felt bad. I had to change it. Last actor you were mistaken for? Has it ever happened? Yeah, it happened with...

51:38I can't believe I'm forgetting his name. He's an amazing actor. That's okay. From... Weird movie to bring up. Challengers. Oh, Mike Feist. Yeah, I've gotten that. I've actually gotten recently someone... I wasn't mistaken, but they told me I looked like Finnick from The Hunger Games. and that was that's like my that's I mean those two things like you know biggest compliments ever Sam Claflin do I have that right Sam Claflin yeah amazing actor amazing yeah love those what's the worst note a director has ever given you the worst note or what don't you like getting

52:20these are difficult questions saving the hard stuff for the end think about this I think I've never really gotten in a bad note. I feel like maybe it's just stop messing around. I feel like Arjen and I get that quite a bit. Not surprising. Yeah. It's difficult. Especially when we have so many comedians in the show. It's hard to keep it together. Trying to have some fun, guys. Come on, lay off. Finally, in the spirit of Happy Second Fused, an actor who always makes you happy, you see them on screen, you're immediately in a better mood, who would that be? I think again I'm going to go recently. Timothy Chalamet has been on a crazy Marty Supreme Dune 2 crazy Wonka.

53:12You can do it all. When's your musical? When's your big musical? When's my musical? There's a Percy Jackson musical. Maybe I'll join that. Maybe I'll join that. First I've got to learn how to sing which is going to take me a couple decades. Movie that makes you sad. What movie has really rattled you? Perks being Wallflower. That's like the saddest movie ever. And finally, the food that makes you confused. You don't get it. Why do people eat that? What's up with that?

53:47What?

53:53Now he's sweating. What do you think? Well, so I have a few. I'll give you some examples. I'm not into sour cream on something. That ruins it for me. I don't like that. I like that. I'm not into that. I like that too. Okay, so you like everything. Yeah. I would say the only thing I'm not into is I don't know why we have to put cilantro on everything. Okay. I feel like, is that crazy to say? No. A lot of people just can't. It's like a thing. I think it's like, I saw a thing. It's like actually, it's like a genetic thing. It tastes like soap to me. Exactly. I appreciate it for what it is I mean I don't know I think that's a good question I love sour cream I gotta disagree with you on that tense at the end we can't agree on this the new season is fantastic you kill it as always
