0:22I'm Victoria. The game's on. Welcome back to another episode of your favorite football podcast by the girls for everyone. The game. I am so excited today. I am bringing you an interview with Julie Seifert. Julie Seifert is a med school student. She is a previous Jets fan turned Colts fan after she met her plus one, Matt Gonzalez, who is now on the offensive line on the Indianapolis Colts. This interview was especially fun because I met Julie, Julie's mom and dad, as well as Matt's mom at the Colts game in Berlin. And while I was there, I told myself, Victoria, one interview, I was alone. I was antsy to get into the game.

1:11And I went up to this group of women and I said, hey, I have this show. Would you be interested in being interviewed? And they were so kind, so fun to talk to. And as we got into it, I learned that this was the family of a player. So how serendipitous. And I asked, would you be interested in being on my podcast? And she so kindly said yes. So now today I get to interview her about her experience with the NFL, with the Colts, which you guys know that I love the Colts. I'm so interested in the franchise's story and the culture that they're building. We do talk about Daniel Jones going out in week 14 and her outlook on next weekend and the rest of the season.

1:53Details on her plus one, Matt Gonzalez, number 71 on the Colts in his second year, but his first year consistently starting in the NFL. They met at Pittsburgh, but are both from Long Island, New York. Matt plays both tackle and guard And Julie talks a little bit in the episode about his moving around. He is on a four-year,$5.839 million rookie contract, was drafted 79th overall in the 2024 NFL draft. They are currently doing long distances. They are a complete power couple with Jules in her medical school experience and Matt signing on that four-year deal with the Colts. I can't wait for you to listen to this episode.

2:41We talk about relationships. We talk about what she's learned from her parents. We talk a little bit about the season outlook and what it's like to be involved with the Colts franchise. Without further ado, let's get into it with Julie Seifert. Julie Seifert, welcome to the game. Hello. Thank you for having me. I am so excited to have you. So you're a Julie Seifert, but future Dr. Seifert, which is so exciting. So congrats on all the work that you've done so far. And we can't wait to see you get those doctor letters in front of your name. Thank you. Thank you. A lot of studying ahead, but fingers crossed.

3:23You're going to be great. And your plus one is Matt Gonsalves, who is in his second year on the Colts, which makes you a part of the Colts organization. And I want to start because we met in a super fun way. So we met in Berlin, which how epic. I was looking for girls to interview and you and your mom and Matt's mom and your dad were all standing there. And I said, hey, can I interview you? And your mom was like, oh, my future son-in-law is on the team. cool yeah exactly so yeah so big sports family so you grew up in long island and your family was originally jets fans now you've converted over to being colts fans but tell me what growing up with a football family, with your family was like?

4:25So not to like be like, well, many moons ago, but my dad's dad, so my grandpa, he had season tickets when the Jets were the Titans. So he was always around going to games. And my dad and my uncle kind of grew up in that atmosphere, just like loving sports. And they played football in college. and then my aunt had four boys and my other aunt had four boys as well and that was just like a big bonding thing and then I was the first girl so and there's like a few more boys and two more girls after that so I kind of just like grew up in this is the culture of everything and all my cousins played football, huge fans.

5:13And every Sunday, we would have like our lacrosse games or something in the morning. And then we'd go to church. And then we'd always watch the jet games together. So whether that was like all of us recorded it and avoided looking at any score throughout the Sunday, like dodging it. So we could watch it all together. But I think as cheesy as it sounds, the Jets for us isn't just like a team that we rooted for. It was like a reason we all got together. And they constantly talk about it all the time in the off season. So it's just like a big part and all the people in our neighborhood always know that we're big Jets fans and everything.

5:51So I mean, I just grew up always around it, loving it. And also too, it's a great way for my dad and I to bond too, because he I was on the oldest. So that was just like something that he's so passionate about and so excited about. But yeah, so everyone is still diehard Jets fans, my cousin came to visit me for the first time in Pittsburgh and he wore a blue sweatshirt, solid blue, no cold stuff because he wouldn't wear that. But my dad does wear a cold shirt. So that's like a big plus. You've got him. He's like just about there. I feel like once you guys actually tie the knot, your dad, you know, you could maybe like get him something as like a wedding gift from you guys to him to be like, okay, we're like here now and we're not asking to throw anything away but it's so funny because the first so last year the colts played at met like twice so the first time was against the jets and that's when i think that was matt's second game starting so it was like his first win starting was against the jets and my dad was just like so torn yeah it's just so funny and so yeah it's been good and everything so i love it yeah so So if you're a regular listener, we mentioned barbecue with Johnny Jett and that's Julie's dad.

7:13So he's the one who has the barbecue. We'll put his Instagram in the show notes. Also the one with the Jett's Sistine Chapel in the basement that they made during COVID. Yes. He does like, so in the summertime, you can never catch him inside because like after work, he's always like working on something but in the winter is when he usually like redoes a bathroom or something so my mom thought he was working on something for my bathroom or over the gym area and he was all excited and my mom came down she's like what is this and it's like green stripes all throughout our basement she's like what are you doing he's like no this will be great So he's like, trust the process.

7:56And she's like, okay. Yeah. Like what? Yeah. So funny. I, I love it so much. Your parents seem so sweet and just like such an iconic couple and like such a good example from what you've told me offline and, and all of that. Is there anything from your parents' relationship that you really want to take into like your relationship or anything that you've learned from like having parents who seem to let, you know, as we were talking before, like let each other be them, their full selves. Yeah. I mean, I've always said if I can be half the partner or parent, either of them is and to each other and to us, like I will be a okay.

8:43They're honestly the best role models. They've never forced me to try to go into medicine. So my dad's a third or fourth generation carpenter in New York with his brother. So it's like, yeah, they're the third generation. And then my cousins are the fourth generation. So they always do that. And my mom's a first grade school teacher. And they just always wanted me to whatever I was going to do to do it right. And with as much effort as I can the first time. so I think and also to the way they treat each other is a big thing they never fight they're each other's best friends and I honestly think and this is gonna sound morbid but like if we were all in like a burning building my dad would like save my mom first and not blink twice because he's like I've known her the longest you guys can figure it out he's like that's my girl I gotta take care of her like you guys are adults yeah he's like I we taught you everything we know I I got to get her out first.

9:38But yeah, no, honestly, they're the best. And my dad, he's just always super hyper. And my mom is super calm and very, very down to earth. They both are. And yeah, so they're the best. And they let us pursue every interest that I've ever had. And yeah, so I can't say enough about them. They've been fantastic throughout all of high school, all of undergrad, and now med school and everything. And yeah, so. Yeah, that's really sweet. I feel like your mom is a really beautiful mix of energetic and happy and poise. And you don't find that combination that often where she's very easy to talk to and energetic and happy and like, she's very radiant, but she's also like very grounded.

10:28And I feel like those women, which I see that a lot in you as well, like you're super easy to talk to and like super fun, But you guys have this groundedness that's really beautiful and makes you so easy to talk to. And that came across immediately just in interviewing you guys for a couple minutes at the game. And I thought that was awesome. I have always wanted to be in the relationship where my partner is like, that's my girl. That's what I want in my relationship. It's like, obviously, I want to love my kids if I have them. But I want a partner who's like, that's my other half. Yes. Like we have to take care of this unit so that we can take care of another unit, like another kid or whatever it is really well.

11:13And I think that like, I've seen a lot of the kids are always first and then like the relationship kind of ebbs and flows. And so I think it's really cool to know that like your parents are like, this is my person and that's how it is. And like, we love our kids and we take care of our kids and we're excellent parents, but we also like protect what we are. in that yeah they the big thing too is and I mean now my dad has said it to me but he was like you know we would never disagree or fight or anything like that but then if the door was closed and I'd be like Tara what the hell are you thinking with that but it was never in front of us like they're always a very united front with things and yeah so they're they're the best and I think a lot with the easygoing and the excitedness honestly she's just like the best like she's been doing her job for gosh like almost 30 years as a first grade teacher so and she calls every one of her students my kids so it's just very funny I'm like she's got no iCloud storage I was like mom I think you can delete your kids pictures from their field trip back in 2018 she's like no my kids like what if I send them the photo when they graduate I'm like mom.

12:24You're like, that's still 15 years away. I think it's okay. You're like, just send it to their parents. Yeah. I was like, I think it's okay. But honestly, I tried to take a little bit from both of them and yeah, they're the best. And I think, cause I also realized one thing I was telling my dad or my mom about one of my friends and I was like, yeah, her parents are going through it a little bit and it's hard for her because she's saying how her dad's a great dad to her, but she just feels bad for her mom with certain things and like struggles. And my dad just like jumped in and was like, to be a great dad, you have to be a great husband too.

13:01You can't just like separate those two. And I think that's like a big thing to like what you were saying too is a lot of things that are learned through actions and not just words. So he really, yeah, they're both awesome. So I can't say, I could talk about them. Yeah, we could just do a whole show. Yeah, exactly. I'm like, can I interview you? I want to talk about your I would because they're so entertaining Oh my gosh. Okay. Well, we do we do love them and we're so glad to like talk about them and I feel like I can never now on here to be A good dad. You have to be a good husband and I think that If every man acted in that way, there would be a lot happier relationships overall.

13:46So So I love that you said that. Let's talk about you and your relationship. So tell me, what is your origin story that essentially brought you to Matt and to the Colts? So I went to the University of Pittsburgh when I graduated high school. So back in 2019, and Matt also graduated high school in 2019. He's also from Long Island, about like 30 minutes away for me, but I had never met him on Long Island. And he had to report for summer camp in the beginning of June. And I was still playing like lacrosse playoffs and everything. So I'd never met him, but I had mutual friends who I played lacrosse my whole life and he shared his phone number.

14:33And so when I got to Pitt in August, I think it was like the first or second day. I don't know if he texted me or I think I texted him and we were just like, Oh, do you want to meet up like at a, I shouldn't say at like a bar or somewhere or like, it's okay. Yeah. I think you're in the clear now. Yeah. So, and I, we just been hanging out since that. So yes. We've just been hanging out. Yeah. It's been a whirlwind and it's been awesome, but yeah. So started in Pittsburgh, but both from Long Island. So I went nine hours away to meet someone who grew up 25, five 30 minutes away from me did you during like your breaks and stuff did you guys like drive or fly home together then yeah so a few times it's hard because especially during football season he doesn't really get the breaks that often it's always at least in college it was whatever the bowl game was to like a few days before the spring semester started so that would always give him like a week and we would see each other like during that time for new year's then after we graduated where i meant the spring semester's over you have like maybe a month or three weeks and then he's got to go back so it wasn't like too much time but i think for easter i think we drove home and he had this like really old toyota that was his grandpa's which now is like grandfather done to me.

16:01I drove it during my gap year and everything. So we drove that Toyota to like home to Long Island a couple of times and everything. So yeah, Papa Joe's car is pretty steady. So that thing's a tank. That's so wild. It's so funny. Like, you're like, Hey, do you like want to hang out? And he's like, yeah, he like shows up and he's like, this is my grandpa's. You're like, whoa. yeah no like he was we were I was so excited for him because this is before NIL and all that stuff so and also being in Pittsburgh you don't really need a car that much but then he lived off campus his junior and senior year and then his fifth year but the first two years all the athletes stay in like this nice apartment complex which is closer to campus so when he moved off of that and got the car, I was just like, oh my God, this is so awesome.

16:54I don't have to take the bus for groceries and stuff like that. So you're like, I picked the right boyfriend. Yes. I was like, this 2007 Toyota is my ticket to Aldi. Oh my gosh. Aldi. Yeah.

17:15I love thinking back. Like a lot of the girls that we've interviewed met in college. I'm like, you just do like the craziest stuff in college. And like in college, you're just so cool with everything because nobody really has that much money. Like at some schools, I know there's like a lot of money and a lot of kids who have had just like tons. But like in college, everyone's just kind of down for it. Like no matter what your background is, no matter where you're from, Like everyone's just kind of there. Everyone's super accepting of each other. And everyone's like, collectively, we have$150. So what should we do tonight?

17:50Like, let's go to Aldi. What do you... It was... Yeah, I loved my time at Pitt. I met some of my best friends. And they're also the best people. And even my high school friends too. But my friends at college, they're all in med school as well and everything. And they're... Yeah. And they're all my one friend. She's at SUNY Upstate. My other friends at UVA Med School. And then the other one, she's also at Duquesne Med School with me. So I'm very, very blessed to have such awesome women and be surrounded with them. And all my high school friends all get along with my college. I don't know. I'm just very, very.

18:28And even my med school friends, they're so awesome. And I've been very, very fortunate to meet since driven and kind women throughout this my entire life. So it's been great. I love it. Did you meet most of your college friends then through like being pre-med? Were you like, what was your major? So I was bio was like, just biological sciences, I think it was. But actually, I don't know my degrees in, but I have it. Yeah, exactly. I was like, yeah, just whatever they told me that would help me get into med school. But so my one of my best friends I met, she's probably gonna kill me for saying this, but She, so we, in the University of Pittsburgh, the main freshman dorm is like a big circle.

19:12And in the middle is like where all the bathrooms are. And then every room looks like a pie shaped around it. And it's like 30 stories and there's like 30 rooms. So it's packed with people. And my mom was like, oh, keep your door open. That's how you meet people. So I was like, okay. And I was like playing music and then like people started coming to our room and I was like, okay, this is kind of fun. And this one girl, she kept like circling. and then she would like walk past it and then come back and then she had asked me like oh who's playing music I was like oh I am and she's like there's music blurring she's like who's playing the music yeah I was like oh that's me she's like oh hey I like this song and then she's like yeah I was just trying to find the bathroom but I'm thinking to myself this girl like it's in the middle it's a circle you can't like any way you go it's not like a hallway and then she said that And she told me like a few months later that she was just trying to build up the courage to walk into a room.

20:07But it was just so funny because I was like, I'm trying to find a bathroom. It's in the middle. You have access to it at every second. She's like using bad pickup lines on you. And you're like, you could just say hi. Yeah. And it's so funny too. And yeah, so she's like a sister. And yeah, that's the one at UVA Med School. So she's very smart, but she needs to come up with a better excuse. That's I'm imagining her like at the bar. She's like, I'm going to go talk to that guy. You're like, are you sure? She cracks me up. Yeah. She's awesome. That's so funny. That reminds me of when I met my best friend from college.

20:49I was in a sorority, but no one like when you get into the sorority, they have like, were you in a sorority? I wasn't. I played club lacrosse and we always had like things going on and pits not like a big sorority fraternity school. Cause it's like very broken up. It's not like houses of things. I think like 8 % of the student body does it. So I was very okay. Not doing it, but yeah. So the, we, you have bid night, so you get your bid to get into the sorority and then there's bid night, which honestly, I don't even remember what the event was. Like, I don't know. It was probably a party, but like, I honestly don't remember it, but oh yes I do because oh my god I'm getting a lot of flashbacks right now it's like popping up in screens yeah I heard I was in AKIO and I heard that there was another AKIO in the building and I was like I got a bit like why has nobody told me where I'm supposed to be like was this fake like did they not want me like I don't know what's going on and so then I went on like a scavenger hunt through the building to like find this other alpha chi girl and I just walk.

21:57I was wearing like, Oh, this awful vest. My roommate was like, I don't wear this horrible, way too big for me. American flag vest. Cause it was like an American flag party. And I just walked into Kelsey's room and I was like, does this look horrible? And she's like, what? And I was like, well, are you going to the party? Like, no chill. I just walked in, decided she was my person. And then we've been friends ever since I was her maid of honor. And like, I just walked into her room and I was like, you're we're together now. Like, how are we going to know? You've got no choice in this. Yeah, no, literally I picked her and I was like, you're mine now.

22:36Yeah, that's kind of how it was with Aaliyah and I. And yeah, so we met like the first day we moved in. And then I think there was this thing called like the ice cream social and the big building on I know the big building on Pitt's campus is called the Cathedral of Learning. It's huge. It's so beautiful. And they have like this big one behind it. And they called it by a stream social and so they were like to get kids like meeting other people and stuff and they had everyone like set up like in a clock like in 12 sections they're like 12 o 'clock is January six o 'clock is June if that's your birthday to meet like a bunch of different freshmen so Aaliyah was born her birthday is January and my birthday is June and so we were going to be on opposite sides and she's like no no I'm changing my birthday to June so she's like I can't go all the way over there.

23:22I just made one 10. So she just kept telling people, they're like, when's your birthday? And they'd be like, oh, June like 8th. And she's like, me too. So she just kept saying that to everyone. And I was like, you're going to get us in trouble. You can't have seven different birthdays in June. In June, she's going to like 19 parties for herself. Yeah, exactly. I was like, Aaliyah. Oh my God. And then the other friend who I met, Duquesne med school with her name's Liv and we had 8am Monday, Oh, Jen can lab together. So she was like my very first class at Pitt. We were a lab partners. And then my other really good friend Arissa, who's also the other one in med school, she was on my club lacrosse team.

24:05So I kind of met all these people like within the very first or two days. So yeah, I feel like that's how it goes. And like, you like them and then you stick with them. It's actually crazy. Like I was in club sports as well. And me and my club sports friends, the last three, I'm so proud of us. The last three years we've gotten together every summer for like a weekend trip. But yeah, I like met them and like one of my friends, Alexis, like she joined and she was like, Hey, you should join. I was like, I don't know, maybe. And then I went to a room like a couple of weeks later, but I'd like met her in like the first, I don't know, a couple of days.

24:41And yeah, like club sports, like lab partners, great because it's like an easy entrance. Yeah. It's not like a water. Yeah, no, exactly. We were like scared to pour water into like beakers because you're so nervous, like and all that stuff. And yeah, it was so good. My club lacrosse team was pretty serious. Like we would go to UCLA or Texas. So we were flying all over the place and it was such a great opportunity to still play a sport that I wasn't ready to say goodbye to yet. And also be around like people that were still very like school driven. And then also super fun. Like we, for as much as we studied, we also had never sacrificed having fun.

25:23So it was really awesome. Yeah. I think that club sports are so the move. When you were in high school, did you have any like desire to go NCAA? Like, was that something you were like wanting or hoping for? So I was pretty interested in it. I was also very, very driven and very serious in high school, which is kind of funny now because I think I've taken a big chill pill and I really attribute that to Matt. And so I was looking at a few places, actually one of the places I was really, really considering was West Point and it had fallen through. And, but I always knew, I think I wanted to go into medicine.

26:02So that was always on the forefront of my mind was I don't want to sacrifice my academics for just playing a sport that I obviously love just for a little longer. So, and then I also didn't want to go to a small school because my high school is like a hundred, 110 kids. So it's like preschool through sixth grade is one building and then seven through 12th and another. So it's very small. and I was like, I think I just want to get out and get a big experience. And I looked at Pitt and I just loved it. And the year before Pitt's club team won like the club lacrosse championship. So I was like, this seems serious.

26:43And all these girls seem really nice. And yeah, I just fell in love with it. So. I love that. I was very similar story, like couple of NCAA opportunities, then got in Davis. And I was like, I want a good education. like it's an in-state school. And then I was like battling, do I, like I was going to be a walk-on NCAA. I had like a school that I essentially committed to and then got into Davis. And I was like, what do I do? Do I like go be a walk-on or do I go to Davis and like try this like club thing? And I feel like a lot of people don't like understand club sports, especially if you're like, if your club sport is competitive, like it's actually competitive and like your training and like you stay like a true athlete.

27:30It's not like an IM like inner tube water polo. I regret not doing, but club is the best because there is like flexibility and like, it's just like, yeah, a little bit more flexible and a little bit less rigid than NCAA, but you're still competitive and everyone still buys in. Well, that was the big thing is, so my, one of my older cousins, he goes to where he graduated from Georgia tech and they didn't have a men's D one team, but they have a club team. And so that was like pretty serious and stuff like that. And he would tell me how he would go to like Utah and different things. And when I went to pit, it didn't have a D one lacrosse program.

28:16So I, that was pretty serious, like the club team and And also too, a lot of the girls were like engineering, PA, doctor, like nurse, like all these really demanding careers and what they're going to school for. So I was like, okay, well, if these girls can also handle it, then at least that's something we can do. We practiced, I want to say it was like two or three times in a week. And then the other days were workouts too that they had for us. And it was awesome. I wouldn't trade it for the world. And then they had the D1 program. and by then I think it was a junior a sophomore maybe and I was like maybe do I try out but then I see like what Matt was doing and how much I loved my school social playing club sports balance that I had going on and I was just like no thanks like I give Matt so much credit for all the stuff he had to do but I was just like I don't want to do that so it's okay can you give us some like clue to like your schedule versus his schedule?

29:19So mine was like pretty much typical college. Like I would have some labs early or really late, but I would say primarily, I'm not like a crazy big morning person. So I'd try to have my classes start at like nine or 10 and then probably go into like four or five studying or hang out with friends and stuff. And then we'd have practice like seven to nine or something like that. That's the craziest thing about club sports why am i doing double back flips at 9 30 p.m yes there was like one time where we had shifts because like club cornhole had it and it was just like we had to go 9 to 11 i was like you're like literally a national champion why am i practicing at 11 p.m to make room for cornhole i was like tailgating season is over why are we still practicing this thing but i say shout out pick Cornhole.

30:07I really hope they're doing good, but not to like start beating them. So yeah, but and then Matt's was just like, kind of how it is now. He would have to go in around like 6.30 in the morning, seven, and then be back around, around that 6pm at night. And then he would take night class or he'd be done maybe like four or five. Then his night classes were always six to 8 30 so and those were like the once a week ones so they would try to like schedule you monday tuesday wednesday maybe thursday so that it would like meet the 12 credit requirement or nine credit i think but he always took 12 and so that you wouldn't have stuff that like interfered with the mornings right like your work we'd like to thank our sponsor at kuso cuts thank you so much for supporting us here at the game.

31:05As we were talking about earlier, Johnny Jet with the Jets barbecue. He is cooking up some spices. And honestly, I aspire to be like that. And Kuso Cuts really helps me out with this one because when I do grill, you know that I'm not blending my own seasonings at this point. I am going right to Kuso's to sprinkle it on whatever I am grilling to make my life easier, happier, more flavorful, bold, and really, really clean with the ingredients. If you want 10 % off, if you are inspired by the grilling, use code THEGAMENOSPACES at checkout at kusocuts.com, or you can have it automatically applied by going to kusocuts.com slash the game.

31:47Thank you so much to Kusos for supporting us. Thank you for inspiring me to grill. and let's get back into the episode. If you happen to be a company who would like to sponsor the game, please reach out to me at victoriaatthegamethepodcast.com. Do you feel like it was a benefit knowing that you wanted to go to med school that he was so busy? So there was like, there wasn't as much time to like mess around during the middle of the day or like do random things. You were just like, well, my boyfriend's not here. So like, I'm just going to study. Yeah, 100%. I think the two things that played into it were the girls I surrounded myself in were also kind of in the same boat as me because they were my friends.

32:29So like when we were studying for classes or tests, I was also studying or if we were all hanging out, it was all of us hanging out together. And then I think it even plays into it now with like respecting each other's time. I think that's like, I don't know. Like I always say this, I don't know if it would have worked if Matt wasn't as busy as he was because having one that's really busy and not the other, it's very easy to like resent and say like, why do you spend all your time doing this? And I respect the hell out of everything and every film session that he would have to go back for. That happened one time.

33:01We were on like our anniversary dinner and we were like at this Italian place and then he had to go back for like a late night review session or something. And I was just like, really? but I was like really so like we got our Italian to go or whatever but like I guess I'll eat my ravioli in my bed yeah I know I was like darn but like secretly I was like okay you're like PJs okay yeah it I think that's like the biggest thing is allotting the time for when you need it like I tried really hard to also balance my friends and my relationship too because I've seen so many people get mad at their friends for always hanging out with their boyfriend and stuff.

33:42And while I never wanted to always have one foot out the door with my relationship with Matt, I always wanted to make sure that like I also had one foot in with my relationship with my friends. So he was always traveling on Fridays. And even for home games, they stay in the hotels too. So Friday night where I was with my girls, and then I'd wake up, shower, and then get down to the stadium super early and see him do his walk-in with his suit. They call it like the Panther Pro. And his mom was so nice. She'd always have like coffee for me. And so I'd see her and then my friends would get down later.

34:14Then I'd tell you with them and spend three quarters of the game with them. And then the last quarter I'd go down with Matt's family so I can meet up with him after. So it was kind of like mixing parts. And then if they won Saturdays, maybe I would go out. But if they didn't win, then my friends knew I probably wasn't making it out. You were consoling. Yeah, exactly. So, but yeah, you divvy it up and it was just great. I was really, really, really lucky. Yeah. It seems nice too that you, since you built, like the expectations were built early in your relationship. So like the allotment of time.

34:50And so now that you guys are in similar situations, but elevated where you're now in med school and he's now in the NFL, you kind of already have the groundwork for understanding how to like manage those conversations and respect each other's time, which I'm sure is helpful. And you're also long distance right now. Yes. Yeah. How is that going? So I think it's like, it is difficult because right now it's like a five and a half, six hour distance. But even if I was there, like I go there when I'm on my block breaks and he's so busy during the day too. So even when I am there, I don't really see him too much, which sounds bad, but it's true.

35:34He's busy. He's got work to do, you know? So I think the biggest thing is we just kind of prop each other up on FaceTime. And like, it sounds bad, but like, sometimes we don't really talk. It's just like him looking at film or him like watching TV and me studying. So yeah. But you're just like together. Yeah. And people are like, Oh, that's so hard. Like, how do you make it work? And I'm like, well, if it's something you care about and things like it really doesn't feel that hard. And also to like, you were saying, it's like, we don't really know any other way of just other than us being both really busy and working really hard right now for our goals that we've kind of set ourselves up for.

36:11So I think we're both doing ourselves and each other a disservice to sacrifice anything that we're have going for us right now. Yeah, I love that. I think that's like, great for people to hear, especially like women who have desires for careers, like you going to med school is massive. Like getting into med school is hard enough in itself. And then to like be in, in a situation where you're in like a long distance partnership and you're managing all of these other things, like just hats off to you for being, you know, just a complete badass and like managing these things like poise and like consistently doing your best and like not giving up what you had imagined for yourself because like situations have changed or, or anything like that.

36:55I just think that it's really cool that you're so committed to it and able to kind of commit to your relationship as well. How has your life changed since Matt was drafted in 2024? Honestly, I wouldn't say it was like too, too much different. Yeah. I don't know. I think sometimes you'll get like weird looks, especially for going out around Indiana when like people just come up to us. Not really too much, honestly. Yeah, I think like it just is. It sounds so bad, but like I grew up loving the Jets and everything that we had talked about and just like loving sports and everything that sometimes I have a hard time like remembering that he is a professional athlete, which is silly as it sounds.

37:46I think the other thing too is just like, yeah, I don't know. I think it's like been pretty much the same, just like elevated, like you were saying. But it's been awesome. It has allowed him to keep going for his dream and his goal that he's worked so hard for. And yeah, I think it just, and also too, with the other point we were making, like, I don't think I'd be able to be where I am without his support. And he's just as excited for me with different things as I am for him. So now it's just like that we get to be excited for each other just on a different, the next level now instead of college.

38:23So it's been great. Yeah. I love that. Okay. So you've been a football fan forever on this show. I have been very outspoken about Carly specifically, but the Ursae women. And if you are listening to this episode for the first time, you don't know about the Colts. Jim Ursay, the owner of the Colts, passed away and left the team to his three daughters, who are now running and the owners of the team. And Carly has been on the field a lot with headphones on, taking notes. She's, you know, one of the only owners that we see on the TV, particularly because she's a female owner at this point. But she's just gotten into the press for, A, her fashion, and B, being a female owner that's deeply integrating herself into the franchise, which has gotten an insanely good response, but also some backlash because the internet is the internet.

39:20But I would love to kind of talk to you a little bit about this like really breakout season for the Colts. The last three weeks have been obviously the roughest for them, but they won when we were in Berlin. They've had a really winning season. People have been calling for Jonathan Taylor's name to be in the MVP race, for Daniel Jones's name to be in the race. And then on the completely other side, the Jets. So I'm going to let you kind of take what you will with that and tell me your opinions on the season, either from the Colts perspective, Jets perspective, or NFL overall. Yeah. So it sounds so bad.

40:04I used to be such a diehard Jets fan and know so much about it. And like just Sundays are super fun, but also way more nerve wracking nowadays. So I really haven't kept up with the Jets too much. Like I'll ask my dad and he suffers and it's kind of the same since I was growing up. but yeah I I like I know that there was like a lot of shifts going on with coaching as of last year after Robert Tala had left and everything so I know my dad says it best with the Jets like you just there's just so many different aspects that need to be fixed and changed and whether it's culture of a team and having the stadium in Jersey and you share it halfway through with the giants and stuff like that.

40:56So from his perspective, I hope they win because they care so much, my whole family. But from the Colts, I would say, yeah, Carly and the rest of them are badasses. And I think that they have really taken the team by the reins and done a great job with everything in the coaching staff. And I can't speak too much on game plan with eats thing. I just know it from being engaged to someone who, and at the end of the day, it is a business. So being engaged with someone who's in that business, there wasn't any skip of a beat with transitioning over and he's loved it. He like says all the time, like how grateful he is to be within an organization that doesn't just feel like a cog in a wheel, but more like a family.

41:47so not to like go into like a sad thing but matt's dad unfortunately lost his battle to cancer about a month ago back in end of october so a little over a month ago and between chris ballard and all of the ursays and everything coming up to us and expressing their condolences with everything and helping him and they even sent like a beautiful flower arrangement so they just and the whole team too has really helped him through this time so I just from that perspective I can't say enough great things because it just like especially when I can't be there in Indianapolis with him all the time just knowing that he's taken care of and then also still trying to fulfill his obligation for his team and everything yeah it's he's very very very blessed and I'm very happy that he feels the way that he does being in the position he is with the team and everything So yeah, I think it shows true colors when someone goes through something like that, like losing a parent.

42:50I feel like there's nothing, nothing like losing a parent and having a team that even in your first two years is there for you. And I know his mom had also mentioned that the team had, had like rallied around her as well. I feel like that's like, you see true colors like pretty quickly. And so to know that he's taken care of and even like his mom was like taken care of and considered and thought of is really, really special. And I think whenever you root for a team, you, I mean, especially this might be like more of a feminine perspective, but that's what we're doing here. But like, I love rooting for the lions because I like really believe in what the internal organization is doing from everything that I've known about it, from the wives and girlfriends that I've talked to on the team and from like the press and the way that they like present themselves on the field, the way that they handle, if there is misconduct, the way that they like speak about it to, to the press and the media.

43:54Like that means a lot to me as a fan, because I want to know that the team that I'm like wearing their colors and supporting is taking care of people. And that's also one of the reasons why like I've kind of, you know, I say that the Colts are my second team, mostly like I got into it because of Carly and I was like, she's so badass and doing such a good job so far and just like fearless. But to know that like from the inside world, they're taking care of families as well is really, really special. And I'm sure that like, you know, you know like not every team would have done that for him or like made him feel so comfortable.

44:34Yes. And this is like his first true starting season where he's starting. Yeah, like full year. Last year it was like halfway through the season when he was starting, but he's been doing flip-flop a little bit. Last year he was tackle. So like right tackle, left tackle. And then this year has been primarily right guard. so that's just been a little shifting and everything so yeah but I honestly going back to I really can't say enough about the Colts and just from a fiance's perspective how they push Matt to be a better man better teammate better player and everything and all the guys he's around it's just been really really awesome so yeah I love that I know the girls are going to ask from the fiance perspective, what is the culture of like wives, girlfriends, family members?

45:27And obviously you're not in Indianapolis. So I think that this is a little bit different than, you know, kind of maybe like the longstanding contract girls who have been there for 10 years. But what is that culture been like? Have you been able to like dip your toes in it? A little info. So I think like, admittingly at first I was like, Oh my gosh, I'm so intimidated. I think that was like the first thing that came to my mind because I just I don't know I liked excelling in my school and going with that route and letting Matt do his football thing and just kind of just being there for him like I never wanted it to come across that I was jumping on his coattails or I don't know I always used to take like offense to that but now I think with like maturing and with us still being together and everything is just like part of who he is and part of who I am too.

46:19So I think it was like an uncomfortable thing for me at first because I was like, first off, they're all so nice and so beautiful. And just as a girl, you're always like, oh my god, how can I like even be around them? You all go into a room of hot girls and you're like, wait. Yeah, they look so beautiful and they're all so nice. And with me not being in Indiana, it is tough but I have interacted with like a few of them at like a wedding or different events and stuff like that and they could not be any nicer so it's just yeah it's been really really nice but I will say though like if I could talk to a little bit younger me or whoever has questions about that try not to be intimidated because I it's so easy for you to doubt yourself in new and different spaces especially ones that aren't I don't want to say necessarily yours because I I always used to feel like that was math space and not really something that was mine.

47:14Whereas like if it was a school thing, I'd be like, okay, I kind of earned my place here, but you do. And yeah, so they've just been super, super nice. And I have to put myself a little bit more out there to experience the full benefits. There's probably so many other women that I haven't interacted with that are super, super nice, but yeah. Yeah. I feel like you, like knowing what we know about you now and your ability to like make friends, I feel like if you do dive in more, like you're going to have no problem. But I think also like as women, sometimes we forget who we are. We walk into a room of other beautiful women who seem to like have it together and seem really comfortable and seem really poised.

47:57And we go like, oh my gosh, like I, maybe I shouldn't be here. Or like, I don't feel super comfortable here. And like, you forget that you're like Julie Seifert, who's in med school, who played lacrosse in college and easily makes friends and is so easy to talk to and is so kind and like, and, and, and, and, and. And I think that like, as women, we walk into rooms of like either men or other like great women. And we say like, oh my gosh, should I be here? When really, if I walked into that room, you would be one of those women who's there, who's badass and awesome and seems to have it together.

48:34And I think we all have to remember sometimes, like, we are those women, right? Like, if somebody new walks in, we're just one of them. Yeah. And like you were saying, too, it's just like, they have anyone who I've ever interacted with, it's all from me. Like, it's my own interpretation of spaces I've never felt like unwanted or unwelcome in anything with that so yeah like I said it's all just like a self-security thing so everyone I've interacted with has never once justified nor made me have any reason to feel that way but it's hard because like like you were saying too like just walking through and like oh gosh like and it just goes with like the imposter syndrome of it all too and I feel But sometimes even in med school, I'm like, did they accidentally send me this acceptance letter?

49:28You're like, are you sure? Yeah, really? But yeah. Yeah. I remember my first day of my first job ever. I worked in HR at an aerospace company. And I remember getting there and I was like, they're expecting me, right? Like I'm supposed to be here and they're going to like pay me to be here. And I just remember being like so nervous and like, is this all fake? And I like made it like, no, I agree. And like we had at Duquesne, there was like an orientation thing. And I remember being so nervous because we had to sit like an alphabetical order for the first few days. And I was like, so nervous that I was going to get to the S's and then not see my name.

50:09And I'm like, wait, I don't go here. Yeah. I was like, oh my gosh. But it was obviously but I was just like that was like one of my biggest fears I'm gonna walk in and then not see like s-e-i and just keep going I'm like oh why do we do this to ourselves we're like maybe I'm not here like I know I do stuff like that all the time like definitely by accident yeah and I think I think like the older we get and the more like we get really comfortable with who we are the like easier that gets, but there's always going to be rooms that we walk into where we have to pause for a second and be like, reel it in.

50:49Barack Obama said one of my favorite, I don't know the exact quote, so I'm totally going to botch the full quote, but the idea of what he said was, I've been in rooms with the most powerful people on the planet and I've walked into world meetings with world leaders and realized that guy's not that smart. And he like said something along those lines. And I think it just reminds us that like all people are people and like most girls, like most girls are like cool. Like we're all the same. You know, we're like all just like trying to feel pretty and smart and like make a name and like be happy. and I couldn't agree more and that's the thing too is like even my friends in high school and my friends in college and med school now like it's fun to have fun it's fun to get ready it's fun to hang out it's cool to be smart and want to do your best and it's also fun to be nice and different things like that and I don't know I just I really can't say enough about the people I've been able to be around and also to my sister with the way that she carries herself and everything.

52:02It's just like, yeah, awesome people. We were talking a little bit about your sister before we started recording and how she's contemplating coming to move in. Yes. She graduates nursing this year and I'm trying to rope her out to Pittsburgh and I think it's working. I just think that'd be so fun to live together. And then of course, if my brother listens to this, but you probably will be like, oh, this is, I don't need to hear you talk about yourself. But I do have a younger brother. So I'll mention him quick. He is a sophomore at Penn State. So he's doing architecture. So he's, yeah, super busy, super awesome too.

52:45But I don't think he would ever want to move in with me. But you guys all went to Pennsylvania. Yes. So my parents, our high school sweethearts both grew up on long island everything they went to pennsylvania schools too yeah so my dad played football at bloomsburg and my mom went to westchester for teaching and then i went to pitt just because i love the like we were talking about i really wanted a big school the lacrosse factor but also great academics so that intersection was just gold and perfect like we visited pittsburgh it was so gross and rainy and i was like i love it here you're like this is where i'm like yeah like this is a side note but we went to university of florida because i was in between those two and my mom's like oh shoot like i think we lost her like we're gonna have to take flights and stuff now to go down to florida and i was like it's nice but i think i want to go to pittsburgh and my parents were like we just paid for flights to come visit the university of florida like before you go saying that you want to see go to pick and we just enjoy this right now they're like it's funny let's go to the beach and you're like yeah go back to the rain yeah I was like not that it's bad but I was just like Pittsburgh is such a blue collar gritty like school I was like I just love that atmosphere so I ended up there but yeah so then my sister she went to Bloomsburg as well so she does nursing and she played lacrosse there and then my brother he's a little son of a gun and that's why Pitt is rivals with like Penn State West Virginia so I went to the last Pitt Penn State game in football before the contract expired my freshman year so my brother also got into ohio state and penn state and he was between those two and he picked penn state that is so crazy yeah so i always say like he picked it because he wants to stir the pot a little bit but yeah it honestly is nicer though because his program's five years instead of like six years that ohio state was and everything so i would never admit that he made the right choice but he did what was right for him i love i love like the the rivalry within the family that's yeah like we my brother we like went to a penn state game and i refused to wear anything penn state so i just had a navy blue sweatshirt on yeah that's the theme in your family you say i'm not gonna wear the logo but i'll put on the color i guess yes like none of us I will say we work hard.

55:03We love really hard and we are not sellouts. So I know. Like you're, I was like, if we were sellouts, we wouldn't be just fans for as long as we can go. No, that's, that's serious. I've been wanting to make like a social media post about how to pick your boyfriend based on his loyalty from which NFL team he roots for. Like Lions fans, pretty decent boyfriends like very committed I actually shouldn't say that because I broke up with the Lions fan earlier this year but Jets fans like if they if they can't commit to you the relationship is the problem like you got to get out of there if they can't commit to you because they know how to commit they don't have commitment issues it's just you guys are not meant to be together and he's not telling you that well this is like it's so funny too because matt's stepdad was a dolphins fan so matt growing up and i you don't have to do like those peewee league where like you're like oh the little manorville dolphin or whatever so he was on the dolphins and that's why he just became a dolphins fan and i remember when we first started dating i was like because the jackson dolphins are in the same division i was like you cannot tell my dad that you're a dolphins fan so he was saying for the longest time that he just like like the the stealers because that's obviously with us going to pit and everything yeah so we kept that up for a little bit and then like after i was dating for like a year i was like okay i guess you can make the like the dolphins now but i was just like initially do not bring it up matt please great where we are now with the colts and everything so i hadn't no i didn't want to say that i had no idea we'd ever get to this point but yeah it's just very funny yeah that's really funny okay and remind me how long matt's contract is for with the colts for four years Okay, so you're there for, he's there for a second.

56:54Yes, fingers crossed that he stays there. He loves it and everything. And it's right around the time that I get my residency placement is when contract renewal will come up. So another big shift, hopefully within the same area. But I feel like, I don't know if I can say this. I guess it's my show, so I can do whatever I want. But I feel like there's got to be a string or two that just, you know, exist. It's so tough too. I am very also lucky because my dad built a house for this one doctor and his daughter is actually an ER doctor and IU. So I'm like, I'm going to contact her when the time comes and try my hardest, but we'll see.

57:40I mean, I like genuinely believe that if you are a great person, you will connect with other great people and great people want to help great people. Like regardless of how much money you have or where you're from, if you're a great person and you meet someone great, then they're going to want to like help you. and I think that some people think that like utilizing connections is like cheating or people have feelings about using connections to get things or to put yourself in a better situation. But I feel like, yeah, if you're a good person and they're a good person, then they're willing to like help you and then happy people help other people.

58:19So the benefit only compounds. So I feel like, like if you can and you have the opportunity, like make it happen. Well, that's the thing too. I think it's a fine line between being an opportunistic person and then trying to rely on people to get help that want to see you succeed too. So I think that we'll all go into it and everything and not to be like this, but you make your plans, God laughs, and let's go from there. Because, you know, like, I think you both of us right now, we've all had the attitude of we have this in mind of where we want our life to be and look like and we owe it to ourselves and to each other to and our future families and stuff to work as hard as we can and wherever that leads us just hope that it's kind of close and within the same time zone and then the same time zone would be nice same thing would be excellent same time zone would be great preferred yes exactly so yeah but it will all work out and everything so I just feel like I can't get too boggled down with things and yeah, it's led me here so far, just like doing my work and him doing his work and just praying on it.

59:31So. Right. Right. Okay. Let's close. I know that the girls are going to want to hear you talk just a little bit about like season projections for the Colts. So this is coming out on Friday before week 15 in the NFL. So the Colts have very sadly lost three games in a row to the Jags yesterday. We're recording on Monday, 36 to 19, which is one of their, I mean, their biggest loss this season. I think it kind of shocked everyone, but Daniel Jones just went out with a torn Achilles, which he was kind of like the heart of him and Jonathan Taylor together really kind of like plowed the, the team forward.

1:00:19They're playing the Seahawks this Sunday. Are you going to that game? I'm not. I will be watching it from Long Island. How do you decide what games to go to versus what games not to? Usually I'll try to go to the home games. It all depends, honestly, on my exam schedule. So my exams are Mondays, which really stink. Okay. So that is so rude. Yes. Are you kidding me? Yes. Mondays? That is the meanest thing I've ever heard in my life. Oh my God. Yeah, horrible. So usually it'll be like, if I had an exam that Monday, then I'll go to that game Sunday. It's kind of what I try to do. Yeah. Okay. Okay, cool.

1:00:59So what do you kind of foresee happening in the end of the season with the Colts? They have Seahawks, 49ers, Jags again, and then Texans. Yeah. you know i think and like it's hard for me to speak about it from my comfy little house on my island when they're working their tail off you know you're like on break sipping a coffee yeah exactly chatting being girls no i honestly and not to sound like overly optimistic i really do think that it was so much going into the season with the transition from jim ursay to the daughters and everything and it was a great winning thing but they had such a great attitude within the organization that I think bouncing back obviously I hope what will be this weekend at least from Matt's perspective not like dwelling on a loss but learning from mistakes and this new position he's in and everything and just taking advantage of every week as a new opportunity.

1:02:02I think it's really easy to get down on yourself, either from week to week or play to play. And it's a huge mental thing. And I think that starts from the top down. So when your owner or the general manager and the head coach and the line coach and everything, like, they all have this optimistic, I don't want to say like overly optimistic, but like great attitude going into each week of like, we can accept this as it is because we can't change it. And then just working really hard to going towards the rest of the week, I think is awesome. And like I said, it's very easy for me to say that from here when I'm not the one playing 60 minutes against people who are also professionals that are great at what they do.

1:02:49So and I think that they're doing great and you know sometimes challenges come and unfortunately that was one of them yesterday and you also have to hand it off to the Jags they are also a great team too but I'm excited I think it's like not like I said also not to sound optimistic but it's awesome that we still have one more game with each of the Jaguars and Texans because those are within our division and we played them once each so I think still getting the opportunity to play the other two teams within your division that are also very good that unfortunately we had fell short on but just like a great way to hopefully kind of reclaim footing back again so yeah I mean obviously I hope we keep rolling keep doing everything but it's tough these guys are good all around there's like you know some teams struggle more than others and it's not because of the players being bad and not really because the coaches being bad either it's tough like everyone is so good and that's something it's hard to accept but that's my other thing too it's like oh this person be that person but then that person upset that person so you can't like go based on that because everyone's at this level this season also i feel like is insane yes everything is like this is nearly a chaos season yeah and it's so close yeah and like all analyst predictions at the beginning of the season, just garbage now.

1:04:18Like, I mean, I don't think I heard anybody anticipating even the Colts being where the Colts are now. And, you know, people, you know, with three losses in a row, people are like talking, you know, about, about what's going on, but you still can't take away their eight, like very dominant wins. And they're still that team. Like they've had a couple of hiccups, obviously quarterback going out is a problem, but you still have Matt on the offensive line. You still have Jonathan Taylor. You still have the rest of the defense that have been doing a great job all season, like there and, and ready to rock and roll.

1:05:00So I think with a breakout season with like a Cinderella season, like truly anything can happen if they can kind of keep their heads on straight, I think, and, and like maintain like poise under pressure, especially with changes. But I mean, the Colts specifically are not like change isn't shocking to them right now. Yeah. And that's the thing too, is like, I think growing up as a Jets fan, you're a little bit more level-headed with this stuff where it's like people come, they're like, Oh my God, this is the best person in the world. And then the next week it's like, I can't believe that we pay him this much.

1:05:34He should be working as a janitor so people really go from like one extreme to the other you know what I mean and it's really nutty but like it's just gotta it's work them like themselves out and take each loss as a learning opportunity to get better and I think they're doing a great job I obviously with Daniel Jones going down no one thought that he would like people were so mean on the internet before the season and then they were like oh my god he's like a messiah and everything so I really hope he gets healthy and better and that the new quarterback Riley I just pray that he's doing a great job and does well with everything and obviously it's a lot of pressure on anyone in this level because it's hard and I feel bad for all the guys and for Matt too like if someone like looked at my exam score when I didn't do too hot and then constantly watching me take the test and then see the grade I get and then everyone make a comment on how I did about it it's just it's tough so yeah but so far I really really am just excited for them for the rest of their season and everything and it's nutty that it's already week 15 I remember being like to Matt like you know pre-season's like a month away like every and now I'm like oh my god it's almost over yeah yeah yeah I mean we this show is new to this this is our first season yeah and it's crazy that like I think it was two months before the season the TikTok that kind of like started it all like blew up and I remember being in preseason like should I be making content now and now I'm like oh my god we're like almost done wait that's also side note that's so awesome that this is your first year I would never have known because the way that you post and how professional it is that's so awesome.

1:07:23Oh, thank you so much. Yeah. I'm really proud of it. And it's been the highlight of my year. And I feel really lucky and very grateful to the girls who have talked to us and the girls who have bought in. And we have a fantasy league of 1 ,300 women this year, which having that be the first season is just beyond my wildest dreams. And the goal here is really to like amplify feminine voices and give credibility to feminine voices, especially in sports media, because we have a lot of women interviewing male interviewers and not a lot of just women interviewing period. And so I wanted it to feel professional and credible.

1:08:07So that's a really big compliment. So thank you. Thank you so much. I honestly thought that this was going on for a few years and like all your contacts, so awesome and everything. So yeah. Well, we're really grateful for you to be a part of it and like share your story. And I feel so, it was just so serendipitous to meet you and Matt's mom and your parents and all of that. And even to talk to your dad a little bit about the Jets. He said one of my favorite quotes. I don't know if I said this on the show, but I asked him about Aaron Glenn because I am, I'm a Lions fan and I love Aaron Glenn. And I just love how animated he is.

1:08:44He's just like big, like good dad energy. And so I really want to see Aaron Glenn win. And I asked your dad, I was like, so what do you think of like Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields? And what, what do you think? And he's like, well, you don't cut off your head when you have a headache. So, and I like, I was like, that's such a good way to put it. But yeah, it was just so serendipitous. And then like meeting you and you having, you know, front row seat to, to what's going on with like the Colts rise to fame, especially. Yeah. It felt so serendipitous. So it's so cool to be here and talk to you. Is there any relationship advice that you have for high achieving couples on both sides?

1:09:26I think respecting each other's space and time with different things. And it's difficult sometimes too, where we're like, I get snippy or he gets snippy and we're just like call each other two seconds later. And we're like, all right that was just us like it's tough miss each other and stuff like that but yeah I he respects what I do and I respect what he does and I think just constant communication and even like what I was saying before on FaceTime if it's just like him looking at his plays and me studying take advantage of those little things and I want to give a lot of credit to Matt too because he's the other 50 % in this so it's tough for him too and I'm not always free to be with him and I'm trying my best to be on this wild ride with him.

1:10:12And yeah, I am really lucky to have someone like him and help me and also never resent me for not being there with him and vice versa and just see me succeed in the spaces that I'm in right now and him do as well. So. I love it. I love it. Okay. And then last question is, do you have any advice to new wives and girlfriends coming into the NFL, whether that be like with the draft or with like supporting him through college or even just like being a part of the organization, like any advice or like, you should know this before you jump in. I guess like the first thing, and I can take my advice on this too, is like, just don't be intimidated.

1:10:54Like you're talking about before. Like one of the first things, like I really did me a lot of them was at the wedding and I kind of had to go obviously as Matt's plus one and we're all sitting at the table together and then it forced us all to talk and they're super nice so I guess don't be intimidated because you do also like we were saying deserve to be there and everything and then I think with this whole thing it's very easy to get really deep into it and kind to forget where you once came from. So I think having that perspective and also trying to ground your partner in that. And Matt does that for me too.

1:11:35Like when Matt and I met, Matt was not playing the freshman and he was dressing on the sideline, but maybe traveling to some away games. And I think just remembering that you started from there and you work your way up and just, you know, it's pretty easy to be like, oh, that was a shitty game or, oh, sorry, I don't know if we're allowed to first. Okay. A bad game or something and whatever. So I think just like supporting them through that because it's everything they do is like on tenfold magnitude amplified and people think they can just, and they can throw their two cents in, but at the end of the day, it's these people's lives and they're just trying their best.

1:12:11So I think just helping manage through the struggles of everything, but yeah. I love it. I love it. Well, thank you so much for coming on. It's been such a pleasure to get to know you for your sister. Move in with your sister. I moved in with my sister a couple years ago. I'm at my sister's house right now. And you will not regret it, even if it's just for a year. Like it is the best thing you can possibly do if you have a sister is like moving together for like a little bit of time. Like it is so fun. Like you will not regret it. So some sister thing. So I secretly and selfishly hope that she does come.

1:12:51Yeah. Yeah. If you have a sister who's like a friend, like, God, there is just nothing better. There's just nothing better. So move to Pittsburgh, do it. You will not regret it. And if you do, you can come after me and I'll buy you dinner wherever you want.

1:13:07That's how confident I am. Yeah, but thank you so much. It was so good to meet you and your family. And we are watching Matt. We have more stake in the Colts now because he's on the team. I've been like keeping my eyes out for him every game. So best of luck to him. And we are rooting for you guys and on your team and in your corner. And we can't wait to see what you do. Graduating, becoming Dr. Seifert. And I forgot to ask, do you guys have a wedding date? So we're thinking 2028, just because that's right after I finish before I start residency. And yeah, because I still have to be in Pittsburgh.

1:13:46So we're not really rushing too much to live in different states for our first year of marriage. But yeah, so and it's also tough. I keep trying to get Matt to come see the venue on Long Island, but obviously he's very busy. So he's like, if you like it, then I like it. I'm like, I just want you to see it once before. You're like, you can just come here. I just want to like pretend we can stand there and see how we feel. We're going to have to have you on after your wedding and talk to you about like the planning and wedding and being a doctor and planning wedding at the same time. and and and so yeah yeah that's for two years from now oh my gosh well thank you so much

A chance hello in Berlin turned into one of our most honest conversations about football, family, and how to carry big dreams side by side. We sit down with med student Julie Seifert, partner to Colts offensive lineman Matt Gonclaves (#71), to unpack the real life behind the roster: long-distance rhythms, Monday exams, and a first full year of NFL starts that demanded both resilience and grace.

Julie grew up on Long Island in a Jets-first house where Sundays meant cousins, church, and shared screens. That tradition shaped how she loves the game and how she loves people. At Pitt, she chose the grind of biology and club lacrosse over the rigidity of NCAA, building a schedule that taught her discipline without losing joy. Meanwhile, Matt’s football calendar looked like a pro’s—early lifts, late classes, film deep into the night. Together, they found a way to honor both paths: study dates over FaceTime, Friday nights with friends, early walks into the stadium, and quiet rituals that make a season feel human.

We go inside Colts culture during a year of highs, hard turns, and meaningful support. When Matt’s dad passed, the organization—from ownership to front office—showed up with compassion that went far beyond a press line. Julie shares how that care kept them steady while Matt shifted from tackle to guard and learned the speed of Sundays. We talkabout  belonging among NFL partners, why intimidation fades when you remember what you bring, and how to navigate public criticism with private unity. There’s practical advice for high-achieving couples, guidance for new NFL partners, and a level-headed look at the AFC’s chaos: injuries, momentum swings, and the mental game that separates one week from the next.

If you’re here for football, you’ll get it. If you’re here for the people who make football possible, you’ll get even more. Press play, subscribe for more stories that center women’s voices in sports, and tell us your favorite moment or takeaway in a review—it helps others find the show.
