22I'm Victoria. I'm Giovanna. The game's on. Welcome back to another episode of your favorite football podcast by the girls for everyone, the game. We are on our four downs in stats town stats episode after week 15 in the NFL going into week 16. Playoff pictures are coming into some clarity. we're in the phase where everyone says teams can get a little help so they have to win out but they also need 19 teams to lose and someone to tie and all of that so we'll go into some of that craze throughout the next couple of weeks but we're going to be hanging out today talking some numbers so let's just get into it first down the stat king who's dominating right now do you want to Take it away.

17Yeah, this one's kind of an interesting one to highlight this week. Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been doing their dougie lately. Trevor Lawrence had their dougie. Doing their dougie. What? That was a big comparison. I know, I know, I know, I know. But Trevor Lawrence had not a good game for him. But the best game in NFL history. Nobody has ever thrown for 300 plus passing yards, had five passing touchdowns, had 50 plus rushing yards, and also had a rush touchdown, which in total, six total touchdowns. Again, that crazy stat line. So nobody in the NFL has ever done that. So Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars did absolutely amazing.

01And I think they've been kind of rising to the cream of the crop in the NFL right now. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the team that they were playing against when they had this incredible stat line was unfortunately the New York Jets, who, you know, have been really terrible. Obviously, they fired their defensive coordinator because their defense has ranked really at the bottom in the league this year. So I don't know. It's interesting because like, yes, it's an amazing stat line. But again, it would be remiss if you didn't mention the team that they were playing against. Okay, here's why I feel like there's not as much of an asterisk though as we're noting is the Jets still scored 20 points on them.

43So this was not the Jets' worst game or worst performance, offense or defense. Well, I guess defense-wise it is because they got scored on 48 points. But it's not like the Jets were absolutely trash. Like they weren't good, but they still scored 20 points, which a lot of other games didn't score that many points. And like if the Jags, Jags are 10 and four. So the Jags defense is doing something right. So the fact that the Jets scored 20 on the Jags, it was just a really high scoring game. So I feel like there is an asterisk, but it's like a gray asterisk, not like a black asterisk. I would agree with that.

19It's like it's there, but it's not fully transparent yet. So Trevor Lawrence, he's done some amazing things. He's actually saw something that when it comes to like total touchdowns in a game, him and Josh Allen are like the top two quarterbacks that have you know had a really good games with a lot of total touchdowns speaking of Josh Allen Josh Allen is 4-0 when his defense allows 31 points this season no this is so crazy it's literally insane and I'm sure everyone is very aware of especially if you listen to this podcast I talk about all the time but Josh Allen and his and the Bills team overall if you take Josh Allen out of the equation the Bills would probably be one of the, dare I say, worst teams in the league right now.

10But because you have Josh Allen, he's just been killing it. So when Buffalo allows 31-plus points, Allen has thrown for 1 ,351 yards and 17 total touchdowns. The Bills have allowed 185-plus yards rushing six times this season, but the Bills are still four and two in those games. So they're overcoming these deficits and dominant fashion. And it primarily is the reason because you have Josh Allen. And I saw something else that said, like this team is literally being held together by duct tape. And that duct tape is Josh Allen. I feel like I kind of hate the like storyline that Josh Allen, he's like the best from behind.

56Like, why can't you just be good all the time? Like, why are you only good in clutch situations? Which I think is also like my, why I don't like watching the Chiefs. It's like, if you can only win when it's like really hot, then like, what's going wrong? Why can't you make a play just to make a play? Like, why do you have to do something nice only when your girlfriend asks you to do something nice instead of just doing something nice? Yeah, it's like one of those things that's like, and Josh even said it himself in a press conference. He was like, I love the competitiveness And I love when, you know, my opponent is kind of like giving me a challenge because that's when I'm like rising to the occasion.

34I do think there's something to be said about like maybe starting off the game that way. However, though, you have to, you can't forget that there is a whole team around him and a lot of these things. I mean, even in their last game against the Patriots, like the Bills defense didn't start off the greatest, but then they kind of made adjustments and they finished the game and were able to kind of, keep Jake May at bay and I mean he had two rushing touchdowns in that beginning of the game and so obviously again the Bill Stephens had to make adjustments and they were able to you know fix some of their problems but you know it's one of those things where you you have to look at the whole team and that's why I hate this conversation because like yes it's an incredible feat that like and I'll be the first person to like lay down like Josh Allen yes you are so respected but it shouldn't have to be always Josh Allen.

26Yeah. Yeah. I agree. And also I've been saying all season, like a win's a win. So I can't really be like, well, you only win when you're behind. Like that's so annoying of me. I did see, this is not a stat line, but I did see a comment on somewhere on social media that was like, if this is what Josh Allen can do against the Patriots now, imagine once he has dad strength. And I was like, honestly, facts. And that's, I don't know, but I'm so excited for this year's playoffs because how special would it be for Josh Allen to have the MVP caliber season he had, find out that his wife, Haley Seinfeld, is expecting and then the one is Super Bowl.

08Well, and he got married this year. And he got, yeah, he did get married, yeah. So married, they got pregnant fast. But yeah, MVP, married, pregnant, and Super Bowl. I mean, even getting to the Super Bowl for the Bills would be insane. And then winning the Super Bowl and winning MVP. We're talking like Cinderella story on the Colts, but really like that's the Cinderella story if that happens. Yeah. Honestly, I don't think anybody on any team would be like mad if that happened. No, because like he's just a likable guy. Yeah. And he'd be well-deserving. Yeah. And I feel like this is the year for him to win the Super Bowl, especially when you look at other opponents, like his kryptonite, Patrick Mahomes, counterpart, you know, not making the playoffs.

57And Lamar Jackson might not be in there either. So it could be interesting. I don't want to see what's happening to the Lions this year happen to the Bills next year, where they were so high, so hot, killing it in the playoffs. Goff's like insane season, high expectations. And this year, they just haven't been able to keep up with last year's production. And I would rather see Josh Allen win the Super Bowl this year. And then whatever happens next year happens, but they still have the ring. Then have like a Lions situation where everything was going well. Jared Goff was playing like an MVP candidate and then like doesn't make it through.

40So I hope for Josh's sake that even if they don't go to the Super Bowl, they at least manage to stay where they are or maybe bring in draft some new players that could give Josh a little more help so that he's not putting his baby and his team on his back. Yeah, I feel really high on the bills to see if I win a Super Bowl. I'm a little biased because I do have Josh out on my fantasy and, you know, winning my fantasy league might give me a little money to go to the Super Bowl and see Josh Allen. So, okay. Continuing on with our first down, spotlighting players that are dominating the league right now.

15Puka Nakula, we talked about him multiple times already. He actually just surpassed Justin Jefferson in the category of averaging the most receiving yards per game in NFL history. He's averaging about 93.7 yards per game, receiving yards per game. Justin Jefferson is at 90.8. and then and third you have jamar chase 87.6 no surprises there um so when we look at these top three i mean somebody that i think should be on this list might be like jackson smith and jigba but he's not up there in terms of like the overall average which i think is attributed to because he's kind of on a new offense this season that's really pass heavy and so that's why he's just been getting a lot of love this season and not overall but it's interesting because is it the decline of Justin Jefferson that kind of pushed Puka Nakua to the top.

05And I say decline, not because of his ability as a player, but just because of the situation. Yeah. On the Vikings, but did Puka Nakua slide up there because of the environment that Justin Jefferson is in or did Puka Nakua slide up there because he's just been that dominant, which I think it's a little bit of both. I think it's a little bit of both. Is this stat line all time? So any game they've been active in, or is the stat line this season? Most, I'm pretty sure it's at all time because the fourth and fifth players are players that don't play in the NFL anymore. Okay. Yeah. So then it kind of makes sense that like, I mean, it's crazy that Justin Jefferson hasn't slid further down this list, actually, when we talk about it like that, because what do you got like four yards a couple of games ago?

53But like that's a bit, and obviously a four yard game is going to take you from, you know, yards per game. Like we're in the nineties. If you have a four yard game, that's going to drop you a ton. Yeah. Yeah. I think that like Justin Jefferson out of the equation, obviously the stat shows that Puka needs to be there, but he's so dominant. Like I think that even if Justin was playing, this would still be a battle at the top because Puka is one of the of the best wide receivers in the NFL, hands down. It doesn't matter that he's young. It doesn't matter that he's newer to getting this many yards.

30Like he is more dominant than most players in the league. And also he's on one of the most dominant teams in the NFL. So there's an argument there for sure. I agree with that. I think it's a little bit of both. And Puka has been really good this season. So I got to give credit to where credit is due for sure. We have a new leader in the pass category. That's crazy. I know. I was quite shocked when I saw this. I wouldn't say shocked, but surprised. Dak Prescott is now the new passing leader in the league with 3 ,931 passing yards total on the season. Rushing and receiving still Jonathan Taylor.

17He now has 1 ,443 receiving yards. Jackson Smith and Jigba at 1 ,541. But it was good to see Dak Prescott. And we're going to talk about MVP odds in our fourth down later in the episode. And you're going to be surprised because the list that I saw did not include Dak. And Victoria and I have talked about how, should he win the MVP? No, but he should at least be in the conversation. And I only put like the top five on the list to talk about, but the whole list was like, I think about 10 players and he was not even on that list. Well, I think after this week, he doesn't really deserve because like, yeah, you have, you know, you are the past leader, but if you can't pass into the end zone enough, you're going to lose.

07And if you don't make it to the playoffs, you don't get to be the MVP. Yeah. If you're not in the playoffs, if you don't win a playoff game, I don't want to see you as the MVP because, and that even goes for like Jonathan Taylor, who I want to be in that conversation more than anyone. I want him to win, even though the Colts are not likely going to win. But I would love to see Jonathan Taylor win, but I don't think that anybody who doesn't get into the playoffs deserves that title. And maybe that's harsh, but... No, I think that's very valid because you're the MVP. I mean, Josh Allen's the MVP candidate because he's winning games for his team and he's getting them in the playoffs despite all the woes that his team's having.

47Can I compare that to the Cowboys and Dak Prescott? No. I will say Dak has been playing phenomenal football, and I can't put everything on him because their defense, J.J. McCarthy looked like, made our defense look like we are a high school defense. I just, I can't even talk about it. But yeah, unfortunate for Dak. But cool to see that he's now the new passing leader in the NFL. Yeah. Also, I like it because I like it when we pay people. I say we as if it's my money. When we collectively as a team pay someone more money than anyone else, like you need to do a good job. Well, I actually had this conversation yesterday.

28I was like, this was like a really important year for Dak because there was a lot of people and you know how I always say this, a lot of people, me included, that were looking at him in terms of his capability to play because he was getting paid so much money. And like, yes, we know it's a Cowboys organization. Yes, we know it's Jerry Jones, but he did have a lot to prove this season. Obviously, I was looking for him to stay healthy all season, which he's done. You know, he actually had a baby recently, so maybe that's the doubt strength that he's showing off. But I'm really happy for him because I feel like he's kind of regained a little bit of confidence on how he can lead his team.

07And I'm hoping that we take notes and we replicate offensively next season. Yeah, I mean, I think that the Cowboys next season have something really good to stand on, even if they can't pull it together this season. And the Cowboys are one of those teams that they have less than a 1 % chance. But hey, it's still a chance. They're not like completely mathematically lost out. And I think that they I was listening to like whatever some show talk about it this morning and they're like, they need it's something like the Cowboys need to win out the Eagles need to lose out the Bears and the Packers. need to tie and the Bills have to, it's like something crazy like that where it's like, and, and, and, and, and, but you never know.

52They did come back from a 21 point deficit against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Eagles. So like anything is possible. Yeah. If this season has taught me one thing alone is that quite literally anything is possible. So we'll see. All right, moving on to second down, conference check-in, NFC versus AFC outlook. I fear I have more things to talk about. when it comes to the NFC, because I feel like the AFC, it isn't set. But there's a lot more drama, if you will, going on in the NFC. You already mentioned Trevor Lawrence, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are leading the AFC South at 10-4. The Texans are right behind them at 9-4, which is really interesting when you look at that division.

35NFC West is crazy, though. and we have a huge huge matchup Thursday night coming up I literally cannot wait and this is this is going to be if I don't want to put too much expectations on it because I fear when I'm like oh this is gonna be such a good game it like kind of disappoints so I'm just looking for a really good game the Seahawks as of lately I'm not not too sure about them we'll see but Thursday night football Rams and Seahawks. So the Rams and Seahawks are both 11 and three. And this is important because in that NFC race, you have the Rams, the Seahawks and the 49ers. Like I said, Rams and Seahawks are both 11 and three.

19The 49ers are 10 and four. When you look at their schedule for the Rams, they have the easiest schedule. It's funny because they all play bird teams. So the Rams will go play Seahawks this week and then they go into the Falcons and the Cardinals. The Seahawks have the Rams. then they play the Panthers and then the 49ers. The 49ers have the Colts, the Bears, and then the Seahawks. So when you look at this NFC West race, it could be very close. But again, this Ram-Seahawks matchup is going to be important in terms of like playoff implications, the seeding, and how that goes. Obviously too, just like what team is going to be the clear frontrunner coming out of this division, the Rams have three losses.

04They've been by a combined 13 points. Rams, also important to mention, one of their dominant receivers, Devontae Adams, who's been really, really good on the Rams this season, is considered week-to-week right now. He went down with a hamstring injury. So we'll see if they will be playing with or without him in the Seahawks matchup, which I think is going to possibly be a game-changer for their offense. But going back to the losses, Seahawks have three losses that have been by a combined nine points. So their point differential, when you look at these losses that they've been in, haven't been by much.

39But I think that's a really interesting note. And that, you know, is attributed to both of these teams' defenses. The Seahawks' defense is really good. And the Rams' defense is probably really good, too. So it's going to be an interesting matchup. It's just wild that, I mean, the combined points lost by is insane. the 13 points and nine points that like that's what you've lost by combined all season is absolutely insane. But what's more insane to me is that the Seahawks and the Rams are competing for a playoff spot in this as like the number one seed in the same way that the Bucks and the Panthers are.

22Yeah. Like Seahawks or Rams are going to go wildcard, which just feels psychotic to me when And the NFC South doesn't have a single team over 500. So, yeah, I'm curious. That's what's interesting. Because it's like, you don't have a single team in the NFC South over 500. But in the NFC West, these teams are like, they only have three losses. Yeah. And even in the NFC West, 49ers, four losses. They're 10 and four. Yeah. Which storylines that need to die, that the Jags are underdogs. literally no longer underdogs they're 10 and 4 that we're surprised that the texans are good the texans have had a good defense all year now that the texans are on and i feel like the texans are doing it the way that you should do it which is being on a ramp instead of being on an effing roller coaster nine good point good point yeah like i feel like i feel like the texans really are doing it if i had to i mean when you train for a marathon you go on a nice 45 degree angle trajectory and you just rock it up to the top yeah and and then you put the jets on at the end right like the turbo and i feel like the texans are doing that versus other teams are yeah on just giant roller coasters which is like the the cowboys are yeah giant roller coasters at effing Six Flags.

54Well, I mean, that makes sense because, you know, their stadiums are next to Six Flags. So I know they love the local church. It really is in Arlington. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So yeah, the Jags are no longer underdogs. The Texans are good, period. Which other ones did I want to die? Maybe those are my same two. Oh, no. Yeah. Talk about the Saints. I love the Saints. And my hot take about the Saints is I think the Saints are the same as the Panthers, if not better, because the projection for the, so the saints have like next to an entire new staff, they steamrolled their old program, brought in a completely new program, brought in new players, rookie quarterback.

34Everything is brand new. They were projected to have one win. If you go back and listen to our Allie Ridgeway episode, she's like, I think we're going to win one game this season. They've won four games. Their quarterback has more wins than any other rookie quarterback okay they're also bad right like they're not good yet but they're like bad in ranking so they're gonna get some higher draft spots and they beat both the bucks and the panthers who are vying right now for the top spot in the nfc south and granted yeah they're 500, but the state still beat them both. And the bucks were, I mean, you listen to any of the men talking at the beginning of the season and how good the bucks are, the books might go all the way, blah, blah, blah.

23Well, look at them now and guess who beat them? The saints. So I will die on this Hill. And I do believe that next year, the saints will have a winning record, whether they go to the playoffs or not. I don't know, but I think they'll have a winning record next year. the rookie quarterback thing is so interesting to me and to give you to throw out some big names when we like look at the rookie quarterbacks three quarterbacks that are like playing right now include Shadir Sanders, Dylan Gabriel, Cam Ward which was the number one overall pick and then Jackson Dart so I mean Jackson Dart and Shadir are probably the better quarterbacks when you compare these two but the fact that Tyler you know has been winning games and you know I can't compare it to Jackson and Shadr because they missed some games.

09They didn't waste a season. It's similar. It's not a clean stat line. It's not a clean stat line, but it's still impressive in itself. Yeah. It's just funny to kind of look at. But also, Shadr didn't get put in in the beginning. And maybe that's on him. Jackson Dart wasn't drafted to a team who wanted to put him in right away. So... I have gone down yesterday. I think I spent two hours of my life going down. You're going through concussion protocol, aren't you? Yes. I knew it. Well, okay. It was partly that, but I also, I knew it. It was also partly because I was looking at all the drama with the Browns and Stefanski and like, I don't know what to think anymore.

59I really don't know. I'm not going to dive into the rabbit hole, but interesting. it's it's interesting and well i just wonder what's gonna happen next season because the seasons are chalk that's what it's gonna be but i i want the i need the tea for next year yes maybe during the off season we need to do like a browns deep dive on like what in the world is happening we need to do a stadium tour we need to meet some people we need to talk to some wags behind the scenes not on record we need to like get the tea on what is happening in that building and like should we get should we get delegate real fiancé on the show yeah we should i mean honestly she needs to clear her name too like i don't think she's a bad girl i think she made a little mistake it was a miscalculation it was and like i can't blame her because like nobody knows what you're going to do in that situation but it's like one of those things that's there was a comment and it was a little harsh but it was like this is why you need to be media trained because you like never know.

59It was just a miscalculation on her part. And I think she was just trying to clear her man's name. I'm on her team and I want her to win. And I think that sometimes you do stupid stuff by accident. You write a little caption and you think it's cheeky and then people don't take it cheeky, you know? People do not take a cheeky out. It just be like that sometimes. So I think I do need to talk to her though, because especially now that she's, people are like saying that she's outspoken all the time when all she does is get ready with me. So like she's not, but I'm like, oh, if you'll say that on the internet at all, then what can we chat about with a notebook and a pen over a cocktail or two?

39No, I feel like too. She's probably so scarred now to like say anything. Well, this is why we'll do it off record. No one will know. We can meet up in black hoodies and ball caps. Okay. Okay. Moving on. Storylines that also need to die. I don't care about the Chiefs anymore. I don't want to talk about them. I don't care. I also don't care about talking about the Eagles anymore. The Eagles are no longer the Eagles that they were last season. I'm over the men in the sports broadcasting world, talking about the teams as they were the teams that we anticipated at the beginning of the season. I'm over people saying they started the season at one in three.

15No one cares because everything is crazy this season. So the chiefs don't matter anymore. The Eagles borderline don't matter anymore. The Cowboys are kind of, I'm sorry, besides Dak, like on their chopped? The two teams I don't want to hear about anymore are the Chiefs and the Eagles. And it's like... And it's not because they're dynasty teams. It's because they didn't play well this season. So why are we still talking about them? Why are we glorifying them when there's teams like the Patriots, when there's teams like the Panthers, when there's teams... The list goes on that we can be talking about and really diving into and analyzing how great and dominant they're playing.

53like we don't need to hear like it's it's what we're recording this on wednesday the chiefs are eliminated congratulations like that happened 30 days ago like let's move on i was gonna say like why aren't we talking about trevor lawrence more though yeah i mean that's great right now it's like a niche i'm not a niche thing i feel like people that watch sports will know like things that he's done but i'm glad you mentioned that because i do want to touch on the afc since we kind of deep dove into the nc a little bit there is kind of this battle for the one seed in the AFC itself. Teams that have clinched playoff do include the Rams and the Broncos, but the number one seed is still a battle.

33And, you know, Broncos, Patriots, Jaguars, Chargers, Bills, and Texans are all viable options. So it's going to be really interesting and I'm excited. Even though there's more chaos in the NFC, the AFC, there's still, you know, a little bit more things to play for and battle out. So it'll be interesting. yeah it'll be it's gonna be really interesting to see what happens tomorrow that's going to tell us a lot or tonight when you're listening to this if you're listening on thursday pretty wild though that only two teams have officially clinched their playoff spots that feels kind of crazy to me that there's that much room for movement around the playoffs yeah we want to thank our sponsor at kuso cuts you guys hear about them every single week and And we know that even if your team doesn't make the playoffs, you're going to be grilling.

24And if you're grilling, you need some seasoning. And if you need some seasoning that is clean, bold, flavorful, no crazy additives, and will make your life easier and better, go to kusocuts.com. It's just so good. You can use them as rubs. They also have sauces if you're doing wings. I love a buffalo wing and they have buffalo sauce. You can put the seasonings on the rim of your margaritas if you're somewhere warm and having in a cold or frozen margarita for Super Bowl Sunday. If you are worried about having people over, just buy them now, test them out. By the time Super Bowl gets here, you'll have your recipe, your plan down pat.

What's interesting this week, stats meets storylines. We talked a little bit about some ACL injuries. And now we know that there are 30 ACLs that have been torn so far this season, which is less than previous seasons.

44I saw some numbers that there's around an average of like 60 per season, which again, preventative medicine. Can we get a doctor on? What do we need to do so that ACLs aren't just ripping apart? Like freaking, I don't even know, like string cheese, my Lord.

03So we were looking into turf versus grass, which the NIH linked analysis reported roughly 1.44 injuries per game on turf versus 1.22 on grass, including more ACL and Achilles tears. So ACL and Achilles tears are notable because the recovery for an ACL or an Achilles tear is significantly greater than other injuries, other tears, even bone breaks. We had Aiden Hutchinson go out late mid-season last year, came back first game this year, and that was with a pretty brutal leg break. and then we see an ACL and we don't know if Patrick Mahomes will be able to start next season. We don't know if Micah Parsons is going to be able to start next season with these week 14, week 15 tears.

54They are in the best care, but you just, you just really never know. And I feel like maybe the NFL is also more careful coming back from those injuries than they are. I mean, even concussions, which is crazy, but. Don't get me started. But I also think it's way hotter when there's grass stains like i would way rather see you with a grass stain on your white outfit than like turf burn on your elbow turf burns an ick but like a grassy a grassy white uniform is like hot you know me right right now with my my bird wrist um you should clarify giovanna was in a performance and she had to go into a one of the it's like the strap and you put your hand in it and then you go up to the ceiling on one hand so you shouldn't just say my wrist burns yeah it was for a good cause guys and i was in a show and i had i was quite literally an aerialist but i'm on my resume she was she's flying across like an amphitheater like she's like i was an aerialist no she's like flying 30 to 40 feet in the air spinning around choreographed all the dancing, an absolute queen.

07I videoed everything. I was a soccer mom. I was up there. I didn't even know. Honestly, I brought up my camera and I was like, am I even allowed to video this? And I was like, I don't care. Kick me out. Like, I didn't use flash, but honestly could have. Honestly could have. Yeah, it was an interesting performance. All my TikTok. I'm kind of scared for my life. I'm going to go viral in not the best way, but it's fun. You did amazing, Giovanna. And that is incredible. Yeah, I'm so proud of you. Okay. We're going to talk about the ACL thing. So Victoria touched on this in our previous episode this week.

46And we like named some like pretty big injuries. And I have like a list of all the torn ACLs. So Micah Parsons, Pat Mahomes, they, you know, went down this week, which are probably the two most prominent ACL injuries that we might see this season. But other people include Nick Bosa, Malik Gavis, Tyreek Hill, Tucker Craft, Zach Ertz, Marshawn Lattimore. And then we touched on Achilles. Najee Harris and Daniel Jones both went down with torn Achilles. Obviously, people in the sports medicine world are like, this is a major problem. But then I was like, what are the numbers from previous seasons in terms of torn ACLs?

26So I'll go back to like 21 and 2021. There is 57, 22, there's 51, 23, there was 43 and in 24, there was 38. And now in 2025, we're at 30 and counting, you know, with the season still ongoing, but there is a trend of trending down. So to your point, I feel like, you know, modern medicine, more you know people diving into these injuries and how players are protecting their body when it comes to higher tackling what instruments are you using how you strengthen the muscle muscles that you wouldn't really use often those attribute to like maybe this trend downward however there isn't a comprehensive like study on astroturf artificial turf you know regular grass there isn't a study like that and and dan patrick on his show which dan patrick is pretty prominent in the sports media world on his show he was talking about how you know the nfl needs to do a comprehensive study on this because it really could answer a lot of questions that not only fans have but players and their families have when it comes to you know them playing on these fields obviously and i've always said this too like why are there indoor and outdoor stadiums like is it oh i fear i'm about to go into rabbit hole is it fair to have the miami dolphins go to pittsburgh and play in negative five degree weather while it's snowing when they don't usually play teams that are like that am i saying it's fair or not no but i think there's a conversation to be had in terms of making these stadiums a little bit more universal i do think home field advantage, it should always be home field advantage because that's what you're playing for when it comes to the playoff.

17Like you want your home field advantage. But it's interesting when you look at the dynamics around whether it be turf, whether it be safe environment, whether it's open or out, like open or closed, because that also affects what type of grass you're playing on. It's interesting when you look at that in terms of injuries and how could the NFL do better, I guess, to maybe make it a little bit more even across the board. Yeah, I don't necessarily know that I want to see something even, to be honest. I like how dynamic it is. What I do know, though, is that they are more likely than not doing climate training when preparing to go somewhere else.

01So if they're going to Buffalo, Miami is probably doing some like cold hyperbolic chamber, cryotherapy, ice baths, things like that. And then, you know, people in Buffalo, especially preseason are probably doing heat training and humidity training to go down to Miami. And I know a lot of like ultra athletes, professional athletes are consistently doing specific climate training, we're probably, we're not hearing about it because people don't dive that deep into training regimens, which the amount that I want to talk to people, like I want to get in the building for a month to see like, what does the training regimen really look like from the personal trainer side of me is, is insane.

46So I am actively working on that and DMing some like trainers and stuff, but the likelihood that they're doing climate training is high. So I don't know. So I do think though, on the apparel side, they could be a lot more prepared. Like why are we going out in our same exact uniform? If you are from, because even if you do cold weather training from Miami and then you go to Buffalo, like I'm in Miami right now. I was at the beach yesterday. It was 75 degrees. It's sunny. It's warm. It's not that humid right now, but it's warm. So to go to Buffalo from here and then wear your same outfit and you think a helmet warmer is going to help you or hand warmer girl also on my gift guide i have like a a um usb rechargeable heated vest because when i went with jojo she's like i got my vest and i was like what vest it's a heated vest to wear underneath your parka yes so genius so i think maybe on the apparel side is probably where they need to do more rather than like lung or whatever training yeah like why do we need to short pants.

53Why can't we get long pants? I don't understand. We're still living in the dream. Unless you're Matt Collins and you show up to the stadium out of shirt and without shoes in Buffalo when it's snowing two to four inches. Okay. You just can't be out here wearing no shoes. I know it's like a thing and people want to be like grounded, but like wear a flip-flop and take your shoes off. But like no shoes is really gnarly. But it's interesting when you think about the scenarios of if the NFL going to do something from a safety standpoint for the players making it a little bit more even in terms of the grass if that is something that these studies find you know to have yeah to just prioritize player safety yeah yeah and grass versus turf is super interesting because grass is like a higher environmental it's like less environmentally sustainable because when grass dies you have to put a new sod which is very costly and less environmentally friendly than like a one-time turf but turf is also like plastic so i was the dan patrick show also was talking about how like you gotta think like these stadiums have concerts in them and so when there's concerts and like you know they're rolling in these stages and building these these gusto type of performances for the concerts what does that do to the field and all it's just there's so much when you think about it but okay can i tell you a really random story what okay this is like really hippie of me but over the summer, I went up to LA to go to a festival and we got VIP tickets and the VIP area, it's like kind of classic festivals, like pretty packed up.

29The VIP area was like, had a ton of space, but it was real grass and like nice, like squishy grass and it wasn't wet. And so we like took our shoes off and we were listening to like, it was like indie music. And so we were like dancing with our shoes off in the grass. And it was like, honestly, one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I was like, I'm grounding. I'm listening to this like hippie music. I had two glasses of wine and maybe a little something else. And we were just vibing with our feet in the grass. And man, it was honestly one of the best concert experiences of my life. And I, yeah, it was a real hippie moment, but like, damn, it was good it was no such a vibe i was wearing a backless dress with lobsters on it like lobsters and vegetables victoria shut up that's insane i know it's really cute and and me and one of my friends were like doing yoga before like during the break we were like doing yoga poses and arm balances and stuff.

37It was awesome. Okay. I digress. I know I said, I don't care about the chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes did get surgery in Dallas. They named the surgeon, which I thought was really interesting and really cool. I'm like, was there some type of like PR deal going on there? I mean, I think they chose the surgeon for a specific reason, but I don't know if they're just like really proud of it or what was going on there. I thought that was kind of interesting that they named the surgeon instead of just the hospital, but Oh, the Cowboys head surgeon. i didn't realize that until right now that so i i think i mentioned this on our episode but i i knew that he was coming to dallas and i knew that there was people talking about that it might have been a cowboy's personnel that was doing the surgery but it was actually confirmed that it was the it was a cowboy's personnel that performed surgery on the pastoral homes which is really interesting and honestly the more and more i talk about it i feel like the more and more i'm like okay why does that matter but i feel like because it was like in dallas that's interesting and like kind of brought into the question of like looking at tj y and like what he went through with you know the dry needling and then puncturing the hole in this long at the facility and then and now when we go to surgery i don't know it's just very interesting but i only bring the Patrick Mahomes up in today's episode because kind of a crazy coincidence.

04Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady both tore ACLs in their ninth season. Both QB injuries came after losing a Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes just lost and both quarterbacks had already won three. So crazy kind of coincidences. Tom Brady tore his ACL early on in the season compared to Patrick Mahomes. So it was a little bit of a different scenario for them. And obviously Tom Brady came back better than ever after that injury. We'll see kind of the recovery process. It's hard to look at because it's like it happened so late in the season. So I'm not sure what that's going to look like for Mahomes, like starting off next season strong.

49But I think that's why he came to Dallas, because he knew that this guy was probably really good in terms of certain things in the surgery and helping him recover faster and stronger than ever. Yeah. And I think it's like, you know, different surgeons specialize in different parts of the body. And so even if the chiefs have like a general surgeon, like even when I've like broken bones or if it looked in the surgery when I was a gymnast, like we went to the, tried to get the best surgeon that we could. and so if the chiefs don't have like an acl specific surgeon that they consistently rely on then why wouldn't you go elsewhere especially with all the money time and resources that you have via the chiefs but also just via your own bank account based on your experience with the chiefs so i mean i i kind of like the move to be like hey maybe we don't have the perfect care here let's go somewhere else and let's go to another nfl team who have had surgery recoveries that have been successful.

45I do think it's interesting because like, did the Cowboys now technically just help the Chiefs be better? Yeah. I mean, you gotta, Mahomes is from Texas too. Like Tyler, he's from Tyler. He could also be like at his mom's house recovering. Yeah. I mean, Tyler and Dallas aren't like super close. Like it's a couple of hours away from each other, but I don't want to learn more about it. Cause I'm like wondering if the surgeon maybe help them with some other injuries or like big volumes in college or, you know, growing up. Yeah. It'd be family connection. Yeah. Maybe something like that. But it is really interesting.

23Yeah. We talked about the Eagles a little bit. And the only thing I want to say about the Eagles is it was also interesting because the way that we're talking about the Cowboys win over the Raiders versus the Eagles win over the Raiders is drastically different. I feel like there was a little bit more like celebration when the Cowboys beat the Raiders versus like when the Eagles beat the Raiders. It was like, OK, like, congrats, like you beat them. But that game was the quickest game in NFL history. It lasted for two hours and 33 minutes. If the playoffs ended today, the Eagles would be the number three seed in the playoffs.

59Yeah, the Eagles, I was talking about like ramping up. The Eagles are on a downhill ramp. Yeah. Yeah. They're like, you know, the cartoons when like, it's like a cartoon, like it rolls down a snowy hill and then becomes like a giant snowball and just barrels down the hill. Man, that's sad. And then Dolphins quarterback changed. So Tua is getting benched for former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. That is pretty wild. Tua is owed$141.4 million from 2026 to 2028 and 54 million of that is guaranteed. He leads the league in interceptions at 15 interceptions. Yikes. It would be the largest dead cap hit ever with$99 million if Tua is released.

47I know that Tua is a part of the problem. I don't believe that Tua is the whole problem. I don't know that I believe that benching him is the right move. Like I, I mean, I think Mike McDaniel standing up there and saying like in the press conference that like the quarterback play wasn't good enough. And then we bench to, it just seemed like it didn't, it didn't like sit right with me. And so I probably need, I haven't dove that the dolphins are probably one of the teams that I dove the least deep with the entire season. And so I think I need to dive a little bit deeper before definitively speaking on the subject, but something about watching that press conference and reading the transcript from it and then seeing Tua getting taken out.

33Like 15 interceptions is really bad. Like that is bad period. You really can't fight that on any level. But I just feel like something else is going awry. So at surface level, when I was looking at this, I was like, does it really make sense for the Dolphins to bench Tua this late into the season? you aren't going to the playoffs but then I thought why not see what you have in your rookie pick which yeah Quinn years I arguably it's kind of funny I watched him all last season in person because I was covering Texas games quite a lot Quinn years you know was playing for the University of Texas he needed to get out of there because if he didn't declare for the draft he would not be playing and he probably would have had a transfer but this was arch manning now kind of came in and took the job and everyone was already wanting arch manning to play because it's arch manning so quinn years wasn't terrible in college but he wasn't the best in college so i think what the dolphins are thinking now what mike mccain is thinking now is like why not see what we have in viewers because they also have zach wilson on their bench um i thought they were gonna maybe play him but Zach Wilson is Zach Wilson but I really think the decision was like let's see what we have in him and like let's see how he can play for the rest of the season and then kind of you know at least we have three games of film to assess his play and to assess how he plays in the NFL to kind of go to the drawing board and figure out a game plan for next season but do I agree with it necessarily because I think benching Tua is a huge slap in the face this late in the season no matter how good or bad he played yes but we've seen so many other teams turn to their qb1 two three four five this season and so i i i don't think it's a terrible move for them just so they could see how you were just gonna you know match against these real people in the nfl and we also talked earlier about how you need a good backup like not having a good backup quarterback will be the death of your team in a season.

47And we've seen that over and over and over and on multiple teams, like the jets multiple times over injury, injury, horrible playing, horrible playing injury, injury, like absolute chaos. And even on the Brown or the, yeah, even on the Browns, like we watched them have five quarterbacks and go, and then they released two of them they still went through all three so i think that you're probably right that this isn't necessarily a to us situation this isn't necessarily like a two like he's not playing great but i don't think it's a thing i think when they had the conversation you could be right that they're saying like this is not an us against you situation this is a we need to see what we have and why not put them in in higher pressure higher stakes games where the gameplay is going to be higher because if you put them in a preseason game, the stakes are just low.

39They're just low. Your team's getting back into it. You're getting your new guys on the field. You're getting them comfortable. You're learning press. You're like all of these things at once. But to play nearing the postseason, you're going to get much better gameplay than you're going to get week one through six. So I think that, you know, maybe this is a precedent even for other teams to be like, let's not even put our quarterback at risk and let's see who we have and let's see how we can utilize them. And even just having like a starting quarterback watching from the sidelines is probably going to benefit them in the learning phase.

16Also watching how your offense is responding. Like I can't really see a huge negative to this now that we're talking about it. Like Tua's on the sidelines. He's going to watch his entire offense play. He's going to understand where maybe some gaps that he wasn't seeing were from watching them play and then watching the tape. and you get to see your quarter, like other quarterbacks on your team because it's never just one guy. So I'm so glad we talked about this because this is so interesting and I wouldn't be surprised if other teams followed suit in this way. If you're already losing, like unless you're close enough to the top where your draft order really, really matters.

55Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they're not the Giants or the Titans or the, what was the other team? That's like two and 12 right now, but yeah, they're in, you know, they're in an interesting position. Their last three games, they will play the Bengals. Then they will play the books both at home. And then they traveled to new England and take on the Patriots for their last three games. So that's going to be interesting. Hope Quinn, you represent Texas well, and you go out there and play some good football again, not the best quarterback, but he, I think he can be a good fit. So. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see. All right.

38Let's do fourth down super fast because we're going long today. Yeah, we are. Okay. First thing super fast. We don't talk about this ever. And like, I think we should start talking about this instead of when we'll get into MVP race, but let's talk about coach of the year and that race. And shout out to the head coaches. Three I want to mention. Patriots, Mike Rable, Jaguars, Liam Cohen, and Bears Ben Johnson. Mike Rabel and the Patriots, or the Patriots rather, were 4-13. Now with Mike Rabel, they're arguably have a NDP caliber quarterback and they're 11-3. The Jaguars with Liam Cohen. Liam Jaguars last season were 4-13 as well.

15Now the season 10-4 with Liam Cohen Duval. Everyone thought he was a joke coming into the season and now he's making the Jags and Trevor Lawrence look amazing. And then obviously we talked about him a lot. Ben Johnson, the Bears last season more five and 12 this season. They're also now 10 and four. I'm under Ben Johnson. So it's going to be interesting out of these three coaches. I'm not sure who I think will win the coach of the year, but I think I'm rooting for Mike Frabel in this conversation. Okay. I think one of the reasons I want Mike Frabel as well as if you guys didn't listen to Alexandra Francisco's episode that we did, she is on the like media journalism team for the Patriots.

56And she just had such good things to say about Mike Rabel and the way that he's running the organization. And so just like knowing that in internal side makes me really want to root for him. And then Ben Johnson, I feel like Ben Johnson had maybe the most to lose out of these three coaches. And so I think that that's something to be said that under pressure, he's done an excellent, excellent job, especially like he didn't start the season super hot. And he's also been on a ramp, on a ramp going upwards. And so I think that my first pick would be Ben Johnson. That could be because I was a Lions fan and I just know what Ben Johnson has in the tank.

35And I think the more comfortable that he gets, the more he's going to be able to utilize like his creative genius, which I think he's held back in a lot of capacity this year just to get the team rolling. But I think that the expectations on him were so high that his ability to perform under that pressure and knowing how much he had to lose leaving the Lions and then also watching his old team struggle a lot. I think that that like the emotional toll of all of those things in one and him being able to produce with his team supersedes to me both Mike and Liam. But I mean, props to all these guys like that's it's incredible, really.

15Yeah. The interesting thing about Ben Johnson and the Bears to me is outside of like kind of getting Caleb Williams in a stride because he had pretty bad rookie year than coming into this season being good but DeAndre Swift and Kyle Medungay Ben Johnson has like morphed these two running backs very very similar to Jameer Gibbs and David Montgomery and so when you look at fantasy perspective on both these running backs I mean they've been pretty good on both sides of the ball. Games played, when you look at DeAndre Sikhan-Kal Manungay, 13 for Swift, 14 for Manungay. Swift has 191 carries. Manungay has 146 carries.

59So they're very similar and they're very effective when they're on the field for this Bears offense. So that's one thing I will note about Ben Johnson when he came in, is not only did it get Caleb Williams going, he's really kind of taken over and helped that running that situation and kind of replicated what he did with the Lions and take the Bears offense. So it's kind of intriguing to look at too. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. All right. MVP race, MVP odds entering week 16. Stafford about 260. Drake May plus 380. Josh Allen plus 600. Bo Nix plus 1 ,000. Sam Darnold plus 1 ,000. So when you look at these odds, so for my gambling girlies, whenever it's a minus in front of it, that means they're favorites.

46So if it's minus something, that means like whoever's betting on that, you're not going to get, they're like a shoe in. So like if you bet on Zaffron to win the MVP, it's minus 260. You bet$20, your return is not going to be as much. However, if you bet on Bo Nix, who's plus 10 ,000 and he wins MVP, your return on$20 is going to be a lot more than it was because he's like not the favorite. I thought this was a typo. That's why I said plus a thousand, but it's plus 10 ,000. Plus 10 ,000. Yeah. So it's pretty crazy. But just overall looking at it, Stafford is kind of the front runner right now. I did see some things in the media is kind of putting Stafford and Allen neck and neck.

28Is it impossible for Allen to go back-to-back MVP? No. But I think it would take... Allen has to win a Super Bowl for him to win the MVP over Stafford and Drake May, in my opinion. Yeah. I think the Super Bowl champion is going to end up being the MVP. to whoever Super Bowl champion quarterback is? If I'm not mistaking, the MVP is announced for Super Bowl. Really? Yes. Yeah, so the NFL MVP is decided by about 50 sports writers with ballots cast after the regular season but before the playoffs. Though the winner isn't announced until the annual NFL honor ceremony which is usually early February just before the Super Bowl.

13so it's really it's really based off of so let me kind of clarify what I said kind of crazy to me like I kind of hate that yeah let me kind of go back I think Allen Allen would win MVP if he makes a strong case for his Bills team to be in a two and win which is you honestly the same you could say about Stafford and Drake May so I think it's going to come down to these last three games for both teams. And, you know, we've talked about the Patriots and their strength of schedule. A lot of people don't think it's strong enough. And I think losing to the Bills put a big damper on Drake May's chances.

52So we'll see. We'll see. Well, more to come on that. Thanks for listening to the game. If you're not on our Substack, subscribe to thegameofthepodcast.substack.com.
