00Victoria:I'm Victoria. Widman and Snap. I'm Bettina. The game's on. The game is on.

11The game's on. The game is on. Oh my god, the game's on. The game's on. Game's on.

16Victoria:Game's on. The game's on. The game's on. Hey, it's Victoria. Welcome back to The Game. I am very excited today to bring you an interview with the Detroit Lions International Fan of the Year. That is not all, though, because this is a dual-hosted interview with myself and the guys over at Mind the Snap. They are two Brits who have an NFL podcast. They started their show around the time that I started mine and being on their podcast. I was it was the first podcast that I had ever been on as a guest. So these guys are pretty near and dear to my heart. It's been really cool to watch them grow. They have incredible interviews.

10Victoria:They're honestly just a great time to chat with, laugh with and talk about football with. So when they reached out to me to say, hey, do you want to kind of co-host an interview with the Detroit Lions International Fan of the Year, given that I'm a Lions fan and the International Fan of the Year is Bettina Braga, who is a woman. I said, absolutely. Tell me where to be. Let's do this. Let's collab. So I'm so excited to bring you this kind of dual interview between the three of us and Bettina. You can find her on Instagram at BettinaFrank underscore. If you are new here to the game, We are a podcast, obviously, but we are also a community of women who have an all-girls group chat.

57Victoria:We have a sub stack and we have an all-women's fantasy football league. So make sure that you follow us on socials at thegame.hq or at HeyVictoriaHunderson to make sure you keep up with everything we have going on, especially leading into the season. Before we get into it, Betita won Detroit Lions International Fan of the Year. I honestly didn't realize how big of a deal that was until I had this conversation. And she has had so many opportunities since becoming the Detroit Lions International Fan of the Year. But one of the most impressive things about her is all of the connections and community she built before even earning that title.

42Victoria:If you're wondering how do you even become an international fan of the year, you do apply around August. And then from there, if you make it into the final round, they have three different areas that they judge you on. One is your story. One is your fandom. And the other is community spirit. One of the things that I was most impressed with with Bettina is I genuinely believe that she is the perfect representation of the Detroit Lions international community, but also of women who are in the Detroit Lions community. She is the first person to hype other women up, to teach people about what the sport is, to be open-minded to all types of people and experiences.

37Victoria:She's also super creative. You'll hear about a little outfit she made, and that will be on social as well. So make sure you go there to check out kind of how she's going above and beyond as a fan. She's from Sao Paulo, Brazil. There is a game in Brazil in Rio de Janeiro this year. It is the Cowboys versus the Ravens, and she is planning to go. And honestly, it's really making me think I should also go. You guys know I love to travel, and I went to the Berlin game last year. And honestly, it was such a good time that I might just have to go again. So without further ado, let's hop into the episode with Ryan and Lee, the guys from Mind of the Snap, and Bettina Frank.

24joining us today is the detroit lions international fan of the year from brazil she's part of a going nfl community let's embrace the lions during one of the most exciting periods in their franchise history she's helping spread that passion throughout brazil so bethina welcome to the show thank you so much i'm so happy to be here and spread a little bit of the detroit love worldwide

45Victoria:Yes, we love it. And the Lions fans are so happy to hear from you. And for the first time, we have something we've never done before in Mind the Snap and The Game, I believe we've never done before. Because we are teaming up today for a special episode where we are both interviewing Bettina. Bettina, we would love to kind of start to get to know you for your origin story. Because you are originally, I mean, you're in Brazil, but you're a Lions fan. I recently traveled last year for the Berlin game internationally and met all of these international fans who wake up at 3 in the morning. And I was like, how do you people become fans?

22Victoria:So how did you and when did you become a Detroit Lions fan? And I don't know if you know this, but I'm also a Lions fan. So in the same camp. Okay. So first I'd like to say I'm glad I don't have that time zone difference because it really messed up my sleep schedule. Yes. Okay. No, it's one hour, usually one most two hour difference per the Michigan game. So I'm happy about that. But how it all started. I actually got to live in Michigan back in 2015. I was an exchange student there in high school. And it was volunteer to get you. and then you'd be randomly in place anywhere in the U.S. And I ended up in Ann Arbor.

14And Ann Arbor is a city known for its football, especially its college football. And the family that I ended up with was a huge Michigan fan. So on my second day there, it was, I believe, the home opening, and we got to go to the game. So one of the fun facts about me is I actually became a Michigan fan before I became a Lions fan by one day.

38Victoria:Yeah, for those of you guys who can't see, he's holding up a Wisconsin koozie. Nah, Lee. Big 10. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No. Big 10. I went to a Michigan game. The big house was packed. And the day later, we watched the Lions on TV. They didn't go to any Detroit games. They watched it at home. They were also passionate about it. I didn't understand anything at first, but I liked the excitement that people felt like in the big house and then at home watching the game. So I was like, OK, that's nice. And I just like my eyes be like this, watching the ball fly or like trying to see where the ball was, but like not understanding anything.

22And when you go to the first game on the stadium, it's really hard. and because again you don't have any sense of like what is going on like especially when you don't know the game and on the second day when we were watching on the tv i was like okay but where were those lines yesterday the lines that we have for like first down and stuff on tv always baffles me when you go to the first game i had the same experience at my first game where

49Victoria:i go and i'm like why is nobody telling like the announcers are not telling you what's going on in the stadium like they announced third down but that's it there's no moving red line you don't see any arrows like you don't hear any players names and you're like and also my first game I was up in the 300s I was like I can't even see the ball like I I'm so I was like I don't know what this game what this game is and mind you it was like my second and third day there I was not used to speaking English the way I am right now like I was 15 I I didn't have that frequency had you ever watched an nfl game before this like had you ever seen any american football before that experience though okay and then you learned i'm assuming you learned english in school and like part of it is like you come to the u.s for an exchange that helps you like into like use english and okay and then you get thrown into a football game into the third largest stadium in the world for me it sounded like the loudest like it it would compare to us watching the brazil play in the world cup that was my my vibe my experience yeah amazing so what took you from like were you immediately a michigan and lions fan like from those days you said you know what these are my teams and then forevermore yeah i think it was kind of like that as i said like the vibe that I saw them cheering for it made me excited about it and then if I was after when I started to watch the game I'll go back to the place that like introduced me to it so that's how the love started to grow because like I have a deep love for Michigan it taught me a lot it made me grow so I had I still have friends there that like I call and like we get to see each other like once in a lifetime but we still have that connection that we have because we went to the same classes or like shared experiences so it michigan really means a lot to me and i think that and getting to know football that was the reason why i became both michigan and alliance fan that's okay that's so cool yeah i think one of the best things about being a alliance fan is the community is so kind and like people are so excited for lions fans and like new lions fans because not all franchises are like excited for people to like be a part of their franchise they're like you don't know who we are like you're not welcome here but the lions are like get in let's go get in the car put the jersey on this is Amon Ross St.

27Victoria:Brown this is Jameer Gibbs this is Dan Campbell like and they're like just get you're you're in the hug immediately and that's exactly how I felt so I went to my I actually went to my first Lions game last year like first time in for yeah crazy it took me it took me 10 years to go to my first Lions game but it was an amazing experience and it was like one of the 1pn games so I was there super early to try to record content because one of the things that I did there was partner with the Detroit Lions Brazil page, like the official one, because now they have rights to work here. And with the page that I also work for here in Brazil, that's called Play Call.

12So we were like, oh yeah, we're going to make content, we're going to post about like game days. I was there at 8am on the call day. And it's exactly what you said, Vic. Everybody was so welcoming. Everybody was like, no, let's record let's help you go Brazil who is your favorite player like how long it like asking me about my history I just felt this warm and it just makes my heart like giggles and like be happy that I got placed into this team with this amazing community I didn't do much because again I was trying to record and mostly interviews and like why you can do a Pride Plaza but after at the draft I was like, I have more time to connect with a few super fans.

58And they kept the same vibe. And they're like, no, you got to go back. There is apparently this hot tub slash jacuzzi tradition during the cold games that they get before. So that's something I'm also looking for.

16Victoria:Okay. That's like similar to the Bills, like mustard and ketchup, man. that's like the same vibe here I'm like I might watch it but I don't know if I'm gonna be the one getting in that jacuda like I don't know yeah I don't know if that one's for me like the girl the girl in me that's like oh maybe like maybe if a couple beers in I'll watch okay yeah I'll watch I'll be like filming getting feeling experience but like totally dry hair looks good, you know. Okay. So when you become a fan, you're in love with the Lions community because we're such an easy community to be in love with. And how do you then go from becoming a fan to your first game last year to then being the international fan of the year?

07Victoria:That's a huge deal. So what happened in between there and how did you become like the international Lions spokeswoman that we're like so happy to have so uh i think i have to go back a few steps and in brazil we like when i started like keeping up more like trying to understand the rules and like watching the game i didn't share this with it with anyone and i had only a few friends and they were actually packers fans which was like you know they weren't they would talk to me about it but they wouldn't be cheering with me so uh i think then became this uh this uh like i need to connect with more people i need to share about it so i started following like a bunch of like football pages and um i started to like get introduced to lions fans uh and eventually like build this group and one of the pages that i follow is now the page that i work at because they were like super nice they invited me to my first watch party.

12So it was actually the 2024, no, yeah, 2024 conference game that we lost to the commanders. Are you kidding? Sorry. That's so brutal. It was like, there was no Lions, and I was like wearing like a Lions, like just T-shirt, and everybody was looking at me like with those pity eyes because like they thought we would be getting this. No one thought we would lose to the commanders. And I swear, I had people saying, I'm crying for you. Like right now, I had people text me that. So, and with that, like I was connecting with more friends, more people both here and abroad. And I actually became really good friends with Marius and Ryan.

01Love to them both. And they're super nice. And when I looked at them, I thought, okay, that's really nice that they get to do this. So Ryan is just a really friendly person. He knows everyone. He talks to everyone. He organizes a bunch of stuff. And Marius really was like a turning point for the growing lives community in Germany. He organized watch parties. He has a page. He has a podcast. So I was like, okay, this guy deserves to win every year. So I got to know them and I got to be part of Play Call. And I went to cover the release of the mascot for the Detroit Lions Brazil, which is like a cousin to Rory.

47So that was the first activation that I actually did with the Detroit Lions. And then I was like, oh, I'm actually going to the game, etc. And they're like, OK, let's make this collab content. And then they knew I was more into the community. I started recruiting people when they came to Brazil. So I'd be texting people, DMing people on Instagram. Oh, you're lying, son. We have this WhatsApp group. Do you want to be part of it? And then it's just super, super fun. And they're like, oh, yeah, you should please put in the group that the International Fan of the Year it's open for like for you to sign up and I was like I was doing that and then my friends like are you not going to sign up for it I was like I don't know for me Maris and Ryan she went every year and I went to talk to them and they were like super super oh no you should definitely sign up for it I was like okay maybe and then I swear to you I didn't like how you do a college assignment like 11 59 the day before because i was like i don't think i do enough with the community uh but i poured my heart into it i explained my whole history i talked about what i tried to do here which is like trying to create this content and try to connect people and then it came the announcement which is a whole not the story because i'm not usually surprised but the lions

24Victoria:went out of their way to do it nice wait you have to tell us how now like you can't just leave us on that cliffhanger like we need to know what happened okay so here's what happened i actually um on this page we got media credentials for the super bowl and um i was it wasn't super bowl like i couldn't believe like my first year doing it i was already there uh but we've grown a lot here we're like the fifth biggest page that talks about football in brussels and so i was very happy about it and i was gonna make all the content so i i talked to the lions oh i'm going there uh let's make snow collab content they're like yeah definitely you should go to the pro bowl games you should teach them some portuguese words etc and i was like yeah sure we can make this happen And I had to rebook my flight twice.

19I missed the first window of opportunity I had with them. So I only had one chance. And when I got there, I met with the Alliance people, the social media team. And they're like, well, we don't know who we're getting. And it's going to be super quick. So just be ready for it. And they were really making me nervous. Because I'm not used to it. And I was going to see my favorite. I saw golf. I saw Aiden, I saw Amon Ha, I saw Gibbs, but I was like, okay, professional mode on, let's do this, let's record. And then the guy, I think it was Aiden, and they're like, okay, let's do this, let's be super quick about it.

01So I was like, oh yeah, say this in Portuguese. And then we had some fan questions because one of the things that I really value is to, like me being this role get the fans near the players you know like be able to help help them feel like they're also into this by beaming in there because if it wasn't for the community i wouldn't be there so i was like yeah let's bring some fan questions that they had like a bunch of things asked they even asked aiden what his favorite pokemon was and it's his norlax i was gonna say what was it yeah and like i um i was just i was just super focused i wasn't like it i wasn't realized what's happened was what was happening around me and then we finished the interview i was like oh thank you so much bye go go practice for the pro bowl and uh like before i said that they were like oh yeah so now we have a surprise for you that was like and then And they threw Andrew Aiden, which, by the way, he's my favorite player.

02And they knew that. They threw Aiden the International Man of the Year. And he was like, oh, yeah, we want to congratulate you on being the International Man of the Year. Wow. I swear to God, it took every ounce in me not to pass out. I swear. I was like this, like almost falling out. And if you look at the video, I didn't hug him. he had to hug me because i was just oh and uh like i'm usually a crier but i was just so shocked and like my favorite player give me a jersey for an award i just received i i just couldn't react like it's just that's so cool that was that that's so special that's how i got announced as the international fan of the year and i had to keep a secret for a whole month

49Victoria:which was like super super hard to do that's wild a whole month a whole month and you're so excited about it and you just like met Aiden Hutchinson he gave you a jersey and he's like and you want to tell everyone that's happened yeah yeah who can keep that and I met everyone like I took pictures with every player like it's just it's just absolutely it was just absolutely like like hey and to be honest like he's this big and this big so i was looking like a dwarf next to him which is also funny if you see the video uh but he super like to be honest and like it's not because of my last hand but every player that i met so far has been like super gentle super nice and not with like only me because i was there in like this position with the team and so but i saw them being nice with the fans we had like uh flag football teams from around the world and i saw sam brown go especially to the germany team and like sign everyone's jerseys like just take a bunch of pictures with them and like it's just super nice to be in a place where you see they are like nice people like you know yeah i love that yeah and it costs them nothing does it it's to be nice yeah exactly yeah it's uh it's good to see that especially from mr michigan himself uh aidan hudginson yeah yes yes like uh we got to talk a little bit about an arbor when like after the the whole surprise after i like i recovered from the shock and like he's michigan born and raised he um lives it like close to an arbor and then he moved to go to u of m and now he plays for the lions just so special his so his whole family is from there so it's really really nice he has such a cute family like such a sweet like i just feel like they're just really wholesome and like lovely and beautiful and they are that's that's what i'm saying like I met their family.

58They're like super, super cool. Yeah, that's really sweet.

02Victoria:Bettina, you created something for your interviewing player experience. Can you explain, show us, tell us what you did? Okay, so, yeah. So, I got inspired by a post that I saw online about someone going to the game with a different pair of pants. like they had like cutouts of jerseys but here it's very hard and very expensive to find jerseys so like i wish i had that that time and the money i was like okay that's a nice idea let me put something into it and work so i may have made a pair of pants and may have become like a little bit famous about it so i actually have three now but i'll show you the first one that i made to go to the game so this is the i mean that's pretty cool when you have the brazil on there oh my god yeah amazing so it might have become a little bit popular everyone's like i had a girl offer me like i'll give you 200 for it right now on the stadium i was like i'm not wearing anything to their name i just i just can't take it out you're like these are my pants what do you mean i i tried to put like a little bit i have like some memes like canvall soup in here oh that is good yeah that's cool and that kind of became my thing like it's super easy to do is like this uh fabric that you print out and then you just iron it so it's like easy to maintain and stuff i was like i like doing it and then when i got the announcement i was like okay i have to do something for the draft so i made another one and this one it took me even more work because i had to glue every single straw uh straws by itself but uh like this and then i got the uh wait the draft of the year draft ah nice yes oh those are perfect in the draft placement or the fan of the year placement so good yeah wait i'm really i got i gotta glue my my pick here 205 so that's what it's missing yeah yeah so yeah qr code what what's that qr code do my instagram follow me wow there you go But yeah, so I was like, for people to get to...

36If they want to follow me. That's incredible. And there's like Vic, there's one of my favorites in my b-shirt for butter. That is so good. Oh my gosh. Yes. That's quite a good segue, actually. So as you mentioned then, you're chosen as the International Fan of the Year. You've been flown out to Pittsburgh, so you're now at the draft. Talk us through that experience, like from the city to the fans for being on stage. age what was that like absolutely crazy to be honest i haven't put into thought everything that happened because every time i go back it's just like this isn't real this is like what have i done um i really love the crowd in pittsburgh everybody was very excited for the draft like first day i think they had over 500 000 people there and was like a seat full of people and i I got to, like, and I'll go, I'll talk to every Lion's fan because I was like, I want to get to know the community and stuff.

34And, okay, so cutest moment ever on the draft was this little kid that never saw my face before, saw the shirt. And I was like, are you actually the international fan of the year? And I was like, oh, yeah, I know. Oh, my God, can I take a picture? He should have been, like, seven or eight, maybe. It was like, oh my God, yes, of course. And then his mom took a picture. And I think I had a towel on me that I had got from that. I was like, here, that's all I have. I'm sorry, but here's a towel. He got so happy. I was like, I felt like a celebrity, but it was the cutest. My favorite moment from the draft.

17But getting to know the other super fans that got selected to be at the Inner Circle and the other friends that were around and not from the lions but from the other teams like we build this really close group like we talk every day our what's our group usually have over like 100 messages daily which is insane amazing um but yeah but going on stage to be honest i was afraid like i never got into stage with that many people and the nfl was like uh yeah you have 10 seconds to do your whole speech otherwise we might cut the feed pov i didn't even appear on the feed they only had like from the special cameras that were recording to sent to the teams but i didn't know if you're on tv uh but it was it was crazy so i i tried to like just say my speech like i disassociated to from the crowd it was just like this yeah and i'm glad i'm really glad i didn't get a difficult name like because they usually give me the card like two minutes before they gave me my card about like 30 seconds before because that was a problem printing it i think yeah it's in here somewhere but like i'm gonna like frame it with the international family year jersey and i also got like miller's card signed so um you should yeah that that's what to pick you should photocopy it and put it on your next pair of jeans of the drug card yeah yeah that's a good shout out of that back pocket or something

01Victoria:it would be so cute. They get it like this. That's cool. That's incredible, honestly. You did get a really easy name. No, no, that was like, that was the first pick because he wasn't there and I got his card, which is really nice. My guy was Kyler G. Howard. He's from Texas Tech. Incredible. So have you spoken to Skyler? You've spoken to Skyler? No, have you? No. I'm on his DM request. so if you ever since this please accept my team request but he comments on the phone like oh a very special moment for the both of us so i got that that's sweet a lot yeah yeah i'll remember you forever because you know you're the one who called his name and introduced him and if if it all works out i like i i really hope to get to see him like to meet him this year because like again it was very special for me like i i'm like putting all the good energy on him for him to be a hall of famer like i swear to god that's certainly what you want yes but he seems like a really nice guy like his reaction to the pick to being drafted was like really adorable with all his family and he had a nice story i don't know if you guys heard of it but he had no hats, had no time to buy all the hats.

25But his grandpa was a lion's fan, and he had the lion's hat on. Yeah. So the only hat in the entire house farm team was from the lions, from his grandpa, and his grandpa gave it to him, and he was like, well, I'll buy you a new one, but I gotta keep this one now. It was meant to be. I think it was meant to be honest. I do believe in this kind of thing, and It was amazing. So I'm really hoping he does well. Yeah. Disappointed with the draft guys, though. No one's sending out a jersey. The first thing I'd be doing is when I get my number, send a jersey to Bettina. There you go. We'll tag him on here.

14That's all I'm hoping for. But I'm actually like, it's really hard, like being from brazil because of this type of things because i don't get to go to many games and the only game i'm actually planning to go this year is germany because uh it's a different game i get to travel as well and um i get to meet the other international fan of the years because we only talk to on facetime like marius and ryan so that's the game i'm planning on going and um yeah i don't maybe next year i'll go and i'll be like hey skylar how are you would you give me your jersey please yeah i like buying your yeah like hey lions how are you doing would you mind sending me that too yeah but i mean this this was um this was like a great gift from them like having them send me the the blake miller card and like everything that they've done for me like supporting me like or collabing on the post like i i i really felt a lot for the community on the post like i didn't get it was uh nice that i didn't get any hate comments on the post like no hate the only thing that they're like oh what's the english you're speaking i was like bro if you don't understand you don't speak english because i i know i do speak english so i was like fine with yeah you're like that that insult i can take because you're wrong yeah exactly yeah okay i'm english i get

51Victoria:that comment yeah can we talk a little bit about um so on the game we talked to pretty much all women about their experience being NFL fans. So can you tell us a little bit about your experience? Obviously, you got kind of like thrown into being an NFL fan, like you kind of fell into it by accident, but it's still like quite a male dominated world. You know, most of the podcast shows fans that you're meeting other international fans of the year are men. So can you talk a little bit about your experience being a woman in this space? And if you feel like it's affected your experience at all coming from a female perspective i think i had like a different experience because the way i grew up with i grew up with like being like liking most things that were already male so i was really into video games i was really into power rangers and i was like a little girl so um it didn't affect me in that way because like i kind of like grew up in this uh i would say i really like more goals to talk about like the gossip side of the nfl that men don't talk about but overall as long as the guy doesn't come and explaining football to me i like to have a nice conversation about it with anyone that comes into it because i just like to share my passions like oh my god yeah you saw this play and then that happened and we can make that trait and it like and i i just think my experience was different because again i uh when i started talking even with the packers fans like i i'm used to be making fun of and they make fun of everyone so it wasn't because i was a girl or like getting to the sport so i i i'm glad i didn't like get to live like oh people undermining you because they were a girl or like asking are you really a super fan name three lions players i'm like okay do you want me to name the whole roster i can do that you're like do you want the fourth string do you want do you want the whole depth do you want the college that they went to as well like like i i didn't get that and i know a lot of girls do and like i really hope we can break that stigma that girls uh can't be football fans and because we we we show love and we show that in other ways like as we do it with artists we can do with football too like it's it's not a it doesn't need to be a male dominated thing so and that's like one of the things i'm here for so if you're a girl you want to get into football like come dm me i'll like i'll teach you everything i know and now i and it's really nice when that comes back to like me having male friends be like oh can we sit down and can you like watch a game while you teach me like yes let's do this yeah yeah we're happy to learn from anybody where we are self-admitted rookies but i think it's great though that you recognize that your experience like maybe feels a little bit different but that you like like kind of see the other side from like a woman who's like name one player when I started my show the question that I get the most is what do you know about football and I'm like you guys like I have a tv and I'm an intelligent woman like you know like I can speak about it in the way like we're all watching the same game and like yeah but I think even you just being the international fan of the year and you being in the community, whether you're around like women or men, like girls seeing you is going to make them more comfortable and more excited to be like, even like push the super fan boundary.

40Victoria:Because I think some girls are like, I'm a fan, but like more demure about it, or they don't want to be loud about it. So it's so cool to see you. You're like, this is a part of my personality. This is like part of my life and my job. And I'm so excited about it. And my life is so much more full because I'm outspoken about being a fan. And I think that like a lot of women probably want to be like you, but maybe feel nervous. So I think it's super cool that you're just like, this is exactly who I am. And I'm obsessed with it. And it's so fun. I made all of these friends and like built this massive community because that's what sports are about anyway.

11Victoria:It's like just building community and making friends over like a shared, shared experience. But I'm sure you'll get a couple of girls DMing you saying like, so what's up? Can you tell me about this? I'll start scheduling like video calls to talk about them. And I actually just joined a group that's called NFL Queens. It's a bunch of people from like different places in Brazil, only girls. And then it's like, it's more technical than in some groups that I am with like male, like with guys. And it's just so nice. I love this universe. And I promise if you're a girl listening to this and you want to be this person, want to get more connected to football, come talk to me.

56Me, Victoria, we'll get you introduced to this world and we'll make you feel welcome. And you're going to be a super fan like us. Yeah. Awesome. Call the fans. We need some new bears and some new Bills fans.

10Victoria:No, the Lions love the girls and the girls love the Lions. Yeah. my best friend uh that went with me my plus one for the draft uh she's a bills fan she she's a she's in between teams right now because she was like oh my god the lions community is so amazing i might have to switch things but she was originally she was originally a bills fan and that's like a tailgate that i really want to go to because of the videos that I see. I want to experience that. Wait, you have to go. The Bills tailgates are insane. Like so insane. It's so fun. Like you should put it at the top of your list. It's a bummer that the Lions are playing the first game because it's Highmark's opening.

Read the full transcript

59Victoria:So the tickets are like$900 minimum and like my Lord. but Bill's tailgates are like everything that people say they are. Like it's amazing. Like cannot recommend it enough. It's sure a high thing on my bucket list. Yeah. I think everyone on this call is on their bucket list. Well, after you, Victoria, you've experienced it, haven't you? Yep. I went last year and I'm planning another one this year. I'm not going to make it to the Lions Bill's one, but I will go to like another Bills game against a team that I don't like as much so I can like do a little bandwagoning and like wear Bills gear. Yeah, for like a team that I hate.

42Victoria:That's what I'm talking about. I'm kind of bad. If I'm at the home stadium, I'm just going to wear their colors unless it's against the Lions. But everyone else, I'm like, I'm just here for the girls. Like I'm just here to tailgate. Was that your favorite? I know you guys can also comment on this. Like what was your favorite experience at the stadium? Even like the England games. Oh, yeah. You guys went to the England games last year, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's definitely the fan community, I think. The fans all mixing together makes it for when you're there. That's amazing. Everyone's obviously in the UK is all wearing different jerseys as well.

18So you've got Bills fans, you've got Bears fans all there together just to all come and watch it, which I think is amazing when you're there. We do Jersey Bingo. So we're trying to find all the jerseys. I did that. I did that this on Halloween as well can I find people from all 32 teams that's what we do it was really tough to find what was it I think it was a Colts fan I didn't find like I found one I had to zoom in on him because I would never get to him and I think that and Browns was a tough and I know the Browns community is big in the UK yeah we did the only one we didn't find was Cardinals Cardinals the only one we didn't find yeah they don't exist

02Victoria:they're endangered I'm pretty sure the Cardinals is a buy for most teams isn't it they just go have have a vacation week in Arizona a little bit of golf they already got the tickets to Kankum this season and they haven't started yeah sorry Cardinals fans thank you sorry we love you we just don't know you yet but we do love you the international games are crazy because it's so it's such a different experience than an at home NFL game because I went to the Berlin game and I had the same experience like just a million people all different jerseys but one of the things that was my favorite part so I went solo and I like just sat in like a random row but the guy next to me.

57Victoria:He was there with like this other guy that he didn't really know. I think they like ran out of things to talk about. It was like a friend of a friend. And so then he was just chatting with me, but there was like a lot of European football, like soccer traditions that ended up kind of happening during the NFL game. So they did like this dance like this. And I was like, what is going on? They're all going like this. It's all going like this. And we're like doing these songs like i've never heard but they're like football traditions and i thought it was so cool to like see the world's meat so i would go to a an international game again and again but i feel like obviously lions game is my favorite i would love when is the brazil game early right cowboys and raisins here in one of the like most iconic stations ever which is maracanã really pretty and we have fun we have two big traditions we have the the wave that we do and we do it like perfectly and then we have a song that we call it our second anthem which is a song called evidences from like a country duo and when they start to play in the stadium they like they play the first uh line and then they turn the bomb down because the whole stadium sings it nice that's awesome like mid game it's crazy it's it's super super super cool yeah i think that's I think one of the best parts about the international games is that we get to learn so much about other sport cultures and like other countries like sport culture that we would never know.

35Victoria:And like I'm someone who really appreciates just like learning about other people and other sports and how people respond to sport in their country and like just traveling in general. And I think that's one of the most valuable things that I've realized from the international games is obviously the NFL is a business. and they're expanding to make money and grow. But from the fan perspective, like, Bettina, I'm kind of like you. Like, I just want more people and, like, specifically more women to, like, love the NFL and, like, enjoy the community and the excitement and how fun it is to, like, be behind something.

06Victoria:So I just love that, like, you go to these different stadiums internationally and you get a vacation and then you learn, like, we would never know, you know? I literally just pulled up Google Flights to see if I could go. You're kind of jammed me now. For all the Cowboys, Ravens, and anyone that wants to go to an international game, the flight's going to be the most expensive thing, but it's not that expensive for you. And tickets, I think the most expensive one here we have is like 600 euros. Like the firm roll thing. Yeah, like 50 yard line. okay yeah in germany i paid first like and with the lounge part that that's it that's like the most expensive but the cheapest ticket that we have here it's like i don't know 30 euros that's pretty good yeah i paid 200 in berlin and i bought it i bought it like the day before um because i couldn't commit i just like bought it the day before um but yeah i mean i thought that wasn't that bad and i was about 50 yard line like 15 rows up maybe and i thought that was pretty good like i got lucky because they went down um because they were pretty expensive because germany goes crazy for the nfl and germany goes crazy all right i i have people in michigan text me like this is the only thing i wake up at 3 4 a.m for and they were a bunch of them like because the the time zone difference which is like insane i met a chief so everything that germans Except for watching the games, they had to suffer to buy tickets.

42Victoria:Yeah. Those people are, like, also probably better fans than, like, so many American fans. Because I met this family of Chiefs fans on the train. And I was like, how long have you guys been Chiefs fan for? And they're like, years. Like, forever. And there's this daughter. And she's maybe, like, 14. And she's like, I've never missed a game. And I was like, aren't the games at, like, 2 a.m.? And she's like, yeah. I take a nap and then I watch it. and I was like if all games were to it I'm like I don't know if I'd be like I'd just stay off social media the next day and like watch it the next day or something but crazy like crazy level that's why I'm glad I'm like in the same time zone ish yeah you're good yeah yeah I guess I get to go to bed yeah we do I uh went to the Eagles bar last year didn't we to watch the first game of the season okay yeah a philly bar in london and what so we've done a whole day of work and then and then the games so then we get to be 1 a.m game wasn't it 1 a.m game and we got the uh the first train back the next morning about 5 30 a.m it was oh yeah and you go back to work to be honest i don't know how this game is gonna be i don't know how this game is gonna be for us because we had two um season openings right both on friday uh for the like last two sambole games and this game's gonna be week three on a sunday so i might have to deal with the same thing there like i know it's a a second window game like it's uh 5 25 but by the time that we get out of the stadium and like everything's gonna be super crowded and to be honest a lot of people are going to the bars after to watch the the next game uh but like i i know my brazilians i know what we are gonna do uh but to be honest i'll probably get home like 2 3 a.m and probably have to work the next day yeah well we're doing the thanksgiving this year on wednesday oh no no me as you aren't leaving yeah yeah i know i know the packers are doing at doing uh thanksgiving eve yeah yeah so we're going we're going out like it's like 6 p.m 9 p.m 1 a.m 3 or 9 yeah i'm gonna die of it yeah but yeah yeah just commit yeah that's so fun i feel like the matchups on the holidays this year are insane like they said we don't care about your family we don't care about the holiday at all like it's football because the matchups are too good to be honest I'm glad that we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here because I didn't get to watch the game without being like nah family bye yeah I so I'm like a newer football fan I've only been a fan for like I think we're going to my fifth season here um and I dated someone who his family like diehard Lions fans and so I'd be like adjust my life on Thanksgiving to become a football fan because before I was like a Macy's Day parade girl, which I don't know if you guys know the Macy's Day parade, but it's like Macy's puts on a parade on Thanksgiving.

52Victoria:And I've like, my family has gone to the parade. Like my family's from New York and like a lot of my family is in the city. So we're just like, we wake up, we drink coffee and we like scroll on our phone and watch the Macy's Day parade. And now I have to like have game day activities and food. And it like changed my holiday completely. Yeah. Yeah. amazing i'm gonna have those wings i mean i i'm glad i'm happy for you for it like i i love more people cheering for us on on the holiday yeah so bethina how is like nfl culture in brazil like do you obviously you're like well connected now so can you tell us like before you were like well connected in the lions space what did it look like was it like hard to find fans or is it like a huge culture there because in Germany it felt like everyone knew about the NFL um but I talked to like an Australian friend and she's like I only know from like watching on TV or the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders or something so what what is the kind of like the culture around American football in Brazil so okay so before I didn't feel like it I feel if I mentioned ever like uh football people ask me like uh about like the sport that we usually play in Brazil because that wasn't common.

12And yeah, I didn't talk to many people about it. As I said, I only had a few friends, like maybe I think it was two, three, and they were Packers. And that was it. And then I think when they announced the game here, the first game, the Eagles and Packers game here, I think that was a turning point for more people to express that they like it, if you get what I mean. So, and that's how I turned my eyes to this word and was like, okay, actually, I can see that a lot of people like it here. But I would say it's been growing. It's been growing because there are more people talking about it. The media has been talking more about it.

01One of the biggest broadcasters in Brazil got some rights to play the game. and they have one of those like uh youtube pages that they put the game in for free so i think that helps people to get more good yeah uh and it's been nice and something that so i've been like as i said getting to know more people getting to know more lions and getting to know more friends and now i can say i have at least one friend for each team if i think really hard I think I can name one friend from every 32 teams but that's it and then we have these big WhatsApp groups maybe 5-6 groups that are full football and then something that I didn't have my eyes turned on before this year and that happened early this year was for how many people are actually playing football in Brazil so we have the uh CBFA which the Federal Corporation for American Football and Flag Football in Brazil and they're doing like this amazing job organizing the tournaments uh the the national tournament is about to start and they have over 30 teams in it from around like all five corners of the country which is like super super insane and like I met I met a recent friend that he's a narrator for the games so he was like oh yeah come watch a game i was like oh my god this is super cool because especially like during the off season when you don't have having football it's like it's something that makes me really happy so i got to go to more games i've been like and then started like to to post a little bit about it so feab is amazing it's it's a little bit of a mess i'll say this but i i just love watching even like the the minor guy that just been playing for one two years and with that like with getting to that i also got to get more connected into flag football and now especially now that becoming it's becoming like an olympic sport i know that you guys talk a lot to andresa about it because she's amazing she's like be a reference point for flag football for us i saw her referee at the at the regional championship like a few weeks ago so that was really nice and i actually i'm probably like going to my first flag football practice this sunday so it's something i'm looking forward to it i don't know what i'm playing but i'll figure something out but yeah like um just to sum it all up i i'm really happy with all the experience the international fan of the year award got me to this because i think if it wasn't for this i and met these people that got me to the game.

50Like, I'm getting, like, to that. And, like, for example, we're going to have kids' camps for flat football, sponsored by either the Patriots, the Dolphins, the Lions, or the Eagles here. We're going to have the Brazil team is playing the LATAM conference in a few weeks, and that's, like, something super nice for us. actually there is a former Detroit Lions player that now coaches uh the flag football team which is super super nice as well so cool coach Cannon he's super super nice I got to talk to him a little bit um and it's like oh my god a formalized player living in Brazil and coaching um flag football teams it's it's something you could never like see happening but then when you get to this world do you see like my god this is big and this is getting bigger and bigger because now we have more teams and I just gotta say I love it man I love it so much it's cool to see your excitement

56Victoria:and how happy it makes you come through because that's the best part about sports you know like rivalries are great games are great but it's really like everything else that like comes around it that like makes it so special yeah

13Victoria:favorite sports team in all of sports right now detroit lions right now right now right now brazil winning the world cup that's a yeah yeah that's that you're right yeah yeah after the after the midweek showing i would say I wouldn't like to say England winning the World Cup, but winning World Cup mad is England. Yeah, yeah. Okay, great. Favorite athlete of the moment right now? Ooh. I love the gymnastic girls from Brazil. So, Rebecca Andrade, Lara. I am obsessed with Rebecca. I'm obsessed with her. She's so fabulous. I think the whole world needs to know who she is. I think that she's like one of the most fabulous women to walk the planet.

04Victoria:ever and i wish that every single person knew about her because she's incredible okay ryan well copy it harry kane

15it's just stolen my answer there so i'm gonna go scottie shepter oh nice okay he's a nice one i love golf as well so

24Victoria:oh that's fun multi-sport fans okay last one is who is one woman that the world needs to know more about it can be it can be sports it can be literally anyone that you want the world to know more about but it doesn't have to it can be sports not sports athletes actresses whatever friends

49there's so many like great women out there there's so many but um yes so i'm gonna say Phoebe Schechter. Oh, it's good. She was on my mind, that one. Yeah, for what she's done, she was the first female coach in the NFL up at the Bills. She's pioneering and pushing the girls' sport around the world. Amazing. Like flag football and started her, one of the first, with some of her friends, started one of the first female sports podcasts. Yeah. I'm going to steal these answers as well. I'll go with Phoebe as well well mine is a little different yeah okay yeah no she she's amazing uh I think I want to give a shout out to all the women that want international fans a year here so Bobby's Andresa Jamie Erica because they are all amazing girls and they're like doing so much for their communities here in Brazil, in the UK, in Mexico.

59So I just, I think the world needs to know more about them. I want to steal Bettina's answer now.

05Victoria:That's a perfect answer.

09Victoria:All right, amazing. That was all I got. So Bettina, we've got a lot of new NFL followers listening to the podcast. Some of them have made some very questionable team choices and others are yet undecided. So if it's your time to shine, In 30 seconds, can you convince the new fans or old fans to become a Detroit Lions? Let's do this. First of all, it's the greatest community ever. We have a great team right now, both defensively and offensively. So we score a lot of points per game, so you won't miss out on the fun. And as we said here before, we have a great community. I will welcome you personally if you tell me you're becoming a Lions fan.

48and everyone was going to welcome you with open arms. I'm going to be the person that you can talk to for anything Lions related. I'll cry with you. I'll be happy with you. We will celebrate. And especially because we do believe this year we are going to the Super Bowl and we are winning it. So come to the winning team. Come to the Detroit Lions, guys and girls. And that's it. Come. We'll be super happy to have you here. That's a great answer there. So it's, and now, so where can people find you? So if you want to let people know what your socials and how people can get hold of you, and if any shout outs you want to give.

28Yeah, sure. So follow me at BettinaFrank underline on Instagram and on TikTok is just BettinaFrank. I'm trying to post a lot of content.
