In short
The How Did This Get Made? hosts review the 2022 survival thriller Fall, focusing on two best friends/rock-climbing buddies, Becky and Hunter, who climb a 2,000-foot TV tower in the desert and end up stranded on top for the entire movie. The discussion centers on the film’s tension, pacing, implausible survival choices, and a late reveal that recontextualizes earlier scenes.
Guests (hosts)
Paul Scheer, Jace Mandzukas, and June Diane Raphael. They are comedians/actors and co-host the podcast.
Key claims
The movie is “trashy” but enjoyable; it becomes especially compelling in the last 20 minutes. The climbing setup is criticized as unrealistic (rope/attachment issues, no clipping in, structurally unsound tower). The script is accused of sounding like it was written by an older person (including heavy use of hashtags). The late “Fight Club”-style reveal is praised for cleverness.
Notable examples
Becky and Hunter trap and eat a raw vulture; Becky unscrews a tiny light bulb; they use binoculars/flare gun/drone for rescue; the ladder collapses; Hunter’s death is revealed, with Becky conversing with herself afterward.

1:44Jason Mantzoukas:or maybe just don't climb up a freaking tower we saw fall so you know what that means now it's time for how did this get made we're gonna have a good time celebrate some failure not just be a hater because you know you wonder how did this get made let's follow in the mediocrity of some bar art perhaps we'll find the answer to the question how did this get made hello people of earth and welcome to how did this get made the year is 2022 the movie is fall what do you need to know. Well, basically, this is a survival thriller. We are continuing our summer of extreme by focusing on two best friends who are also rock climbing buddies, Becky and Hunter, who climb up a 2 ,000 foot tall TV tower in the middle of the desert.
2:37Jason Mantzoukas:Now, the climb, that was supposed to help Becky come to terms with the death of her husband, Dan, who dies in the opening scene very Very similarly to a movie that we just watched a few weeks ago in the opening scene. But after a series of mishaps, Becky and Hunter are stranded on top of the tower for the entire movie. And boy, oh boy, we have a lot to talk about. I am Paul Scheer and I am joined by my two co-hosts, Jace Mandzukas and June Diane Raphael. How are you both? Wow. You know, I really thought in this opening scene that this was going to be a movie about rock climbers And like the first opening sequence is beautiful.
3:16Rock climbing on a mountain and blah, blah, blah. And I was like, oh, this is what we're doing. Cool, fun. And then the entirety of the movie takes place, climbing a metal tower in the desert. And I was like, what on earth is this now? By the way, Jason, let me just correct you here. Not climbing a metal tower at the top of it. The climbing happens very quickly. The climbing of this movie is over. Yes. Yeah. And that tower is so rusty. Yeah. Too rusty. I mean, I have so many questions about their choice of structure, but I guess we'll get into it. Yeah, I agree. Jason, the first few minutes. Well, first of all, I love the movie.
3:53Jason Mantzoukas:Actually, I want to say that, too. I mean, this movie is trashy, but I kind of love everything about it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Here's what I'll say. Really, there are, and we'll get to them, but there are a number of things that happened in the last 20 minutes of the movie that made me like the movie quite a bit more than, like up until then, I'm going to just say it. When she kills and eats the vulture, I was like, oh, okay. Now this is the movie that I wish it had been the whole time. It is a very good tension-filled thriller. I'm in. But it really gets bananas when she traps, kills, and eats a raw vulture in the wild.
4:37They're trying to do so much in this movie. And look, I get it. Clearly, this is a low-budget movie and a great way to do a low-budget movie. I've seen many people stuck at sea. The producers of this movie, I believe, did a film with two girls stuck in a shark cage in the middle of the ocean before this. So wasn't there one that was about people stuck on a chairlift at some point? Oh, that's a great one with the wolves. Then there's the Blake Lively one where she's like on a little. Oh, with sharks. Yeah, the sharks. Oh, yeah. She's on a buoy. And what about that? I think Baldoni comes and saves her.
5:13What about the other one? Is that a different move? No, that's it. He was cut out of it, though. He was cut out of it for being a little weird. Now, I'll tell you this much. I actually really like the actresses in this. Virginia Gardner. We know her from Beautiful Disaster and Beautiful Wedding. By the way, I didn't put that together, though. I didn't either. I was like, how do I know her? I think she is fantastic. Terrific. I was watching this and I was like, okay, this is so crazy that the other one is following her into this. And then I was like, she's so cute. She's so convincing. She's got this pigtails.
5:51I was like, I think I might do the same thing. If Virginia Gardner was looking at you and delivering those lines, Paul, I bet you'd be climbing. That's what I'm saying. I'm climbing. Absolutely. I bet you would both climb a top-rested tower. If she showed up wearing that push-up bra and said, let's go, we're climbing. And I will say, this is definitely something, as a young person, I would have thought, I can do that. But like climbing things was something I felt very like, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. I'll climb that ladder over, you know, like that. You know what I wished, though, Jason? Because I felt the same thing like I could do.
6:29There's nothing that they did that I don't feel I'm capable of. But wow, really?
6:35Jason Mantzoukas:Both of you. OK. Oh, yeah. I mean, I hate heights, but I also felt like there wasn't any. You really hate heights. I really hate heights. But so I wouldn't like it, but I would do. But I also felt like there's no, we never got to see any skill. No. No, because they're climbing a ladder. The majority of this movie is climbing a ladder. I mean, the opening sequence, I have no faith in them as climbers. Because when Becky is stuck on the rock face, her husband's like, just jump into my arms. And I'm like, that's not safe. That wouldn't work at all. We're not doing that. That would not work at all.
7:11And by the way, though, but he, I'm not saying he deserved to die. Well, first of all, you sound like Jeffrey Dean Morgan now. But you know what? Anyone who goes up there to do this type of thing, it's very hard to have that much sympathy for.
7:27Jason Mantzoukas:Yes. Yes. You know, this whole thing of like, you've got to face your fears. Do not let fear win. Punch fear in the dick. All this stuff. I'm like, but fear keeps us alive. Yeah. No. Fear keeps us on the ground. There's no reason other than Virginia Gardner asking you to that you have to do any of this stuff. Agreed. And not only that, but like what I never quite understood was not Virginia Gardner, but Becky. Becky, our main character who loses everything and everyone for the most part. I mean. Becky, though, Becky doesn't really seem like I'll be honest. I think that Virginia Gardner and Dan belong together.
8:11I agree. I feel like Becky and Dan are a bad match because I don't think Becky wants to be there. I think that Becky is not a climber. Yeah, she doesn't seem to have the same passion and drive even prior to Dan's death. I mean, obviously, post Dan's death, she's reeling and she's questioning everything and so forth. But even beforehand on the mountain face, she seems nervous and anxious and all the things you can't be if you're a climber at that level. Yeah, it feels to me like Dan, her dead husband, kind of like met her on a weekend trip. And then he's like, oh, that's my love. And, you know, and that's why I feel like Becky was OK kind of having this affair because everyone knew it.
8:59I mean, even the dad knows it. It's pretty harsh in the movie when you cut to 51 weeks later. Not 52, but 51 weeks later. And Becky is in a downward alcohol spiral. And her husband's like, he's not a martyr. I'm like, Jesus, man. Like, her husband did die. Like, he didn't seem like an asshole. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan, like, really. You don't think he knew, though, that. You think he knew? I think he had a clue. Yeah. I don't know that he knew that they were cheating, but what's definitely clear, and the movie tells us, because every single picture that Becky looks at on her phone, someone is in the background of that picture revealing their true feelings.
9:44By the way, look alive when a camera comes out. Look alive. You never know. You never know what people are going to catch. And zoom, zoom, zoom, enhance, enhance, enhance. You know, Becky's looking at the camera at her wedding video, and there's Hunter in the background just, like, looking so lovingly at Dan. And then, like, an hour later, she's looking at pictures, and her dad is in the background at the wedding staring daggers at Dan, you know? Look alive. Stay ready. member and as an audience member we are we are like we are having i had a hard time digesting that uh mason gooding who is is dan was a bad guy because we have no nothing to lead us to believe that before he dies and it's a harsh way to introduce these characters but i guess maybe everyone was right and yeah you never know can i just say listen go ahead well and this has nothing to do with her acting because i like grace uh carolyn curry who plays becky very good but the The entire time I was like, why do I know her?
10:49Why do I know her? And I'm like, oh, she looks like Tilly Norwood, the face of like the most beautiful AI actress. And I looked at it and I was like, oh my. And not, not, this is not performance. This is just based on looks. And I was like, is she the perfect face? Because when you look at them together. There is a similarity. And I was like, maybe, maybe we've been incepted. This is a BuzzFeed movie. Is this the first testing of Tilly Norwood? Wait, this is a BuzzFeed? What are you talking about? Oh, first credit that came up, BuzzFeed. I didn't see that. Oh, yeah. Well, I thought that some of the photography in the beginning especially was beautiful.
11:29You know, it's hard, though. Again, I go back to the skill of rock climbing because, now, first of all, I don't know what ran out of that little hole that Dan— Little owl. Oh, it was a little owl, a baby owl? Oh, terrifying. Scott, our producer, saying bats. I thought it had fur. Bats. I thought it had fur, too. I thought it was like a gremlin. I thought there were feathers around. So I thought it was a nest. I thought it was a ghoulie. Guys, remember the ghoulies? You thought it was a ghoulie? I think they come out of toilets, don't they? Well, that's a... But let me ask this. That's the toilet of the mountain, that hole.
12:02No, let me ask this. I don't know. Again, I'm not blaming this on his death on... Well, am I? He didn't seem to put the steak in correctly. this if he could fall so easily it didn't even like fast and loose with you it's like it didn't even hold for a second first of all thank god that they weren't attached to each other they're
12:27Jason Mantzoukas:always attached to each other though in this movie and when they're climbing up the tower they're attached to each other but i mean but i feel like you're right like she asks him like give me more slack and he she cuts out his slack to give him more room to kind of attach himself to the rock face, but it seems like, I don't know. I don't know what happened there because she didn't fall. Yeah, I guess you're right. So maybe there is good rock climbing here. I didn't like the rock climbing on the tower because it just seemed like the rope was attached to the one above them. That is what it was. So they were just two people attached by one rope?
13:00They were never attached to the structure, I don't think. They were never clipping into the tower, which made no sense. No sense to me. No sense to me. You know, like even when they were sleeping and stuff, I was like, anybody want to clip in? Exactly. Exactly. We know, Grace, we know that she's an active sleeper. Very. Becky. Like, anyone want to clip in? Why did she wake up with blood in her bed? Her nightmare was like that her husband's with her. And then she looks like, is it like his dead body fell into the bed? Like, you don't picture him as bloody, I don't think. Yeah. And the blood seemed to be on her.
13:40Yeah. And I was like, wait, is she? When was she bleeding like this? I couldn't figure that out either. Or was that just the blood of her? Oh, because had she had the leg injury by then? I don't know. No, she didn't. No, she didn't. She didn't by then. Okay. Maybe she felt blood was on her hands. Oh, but then it would have been on her hands. I like that, though. I would have liked blood on her hands, but not on her sheets. I've never heard you have blood on your sheets. Here was our... Well, I mean, I have heard that, but not for the same reasons. Paul. So here's where I think we had a major red flag about Dan.
14:14Why couldn't he say I love you?
14:17Jason Mantzoukas:They're married. He said it in a nautical way, which is more romantic. They're married. The nautical way is much more romantic. Have you ever said I love you? I would never say it. Do it nautically? That's harder. Morse code's harder. And also, here's the thing. And I guess this is just getting older. I guess it is getting older, you know. But I looked at them. I'm like, they're so young. Why are they married? Did anyone else think that? Am I just getting older? I'm like, why are these children married? They're so young. People being afraid to say, I love you, feels like it's from the 1950s. Right.
14:51Men being afraid to admit not a, I'm going to say, 25-year-old man in 2022. Who's married. Who's married. You know, like, I don't feel as though that is, that reeks to me of the middle-aged man who wrote this script. Right, and it's also like, to me, all of the people saying the word hashtag out loud also reeked to me of somebody older writing this script. Or a BuzzFeed executive being like, we need more hashtags in this movie. Put more hashtags in there. Put a list of the best things to bring on your camping trip. Well, here's my thought, and maybe this is just the way that I think, but if this guy is cheating on her, I would be saying I love you all the time because you got to cover your tracks a little bit.
15:38Jason Mantzoukas:I wouldn't be, I wouldn't be. Interesting. But I wouldn't be like being coy about it because that would open up questions, right? Also, like, what this guy, what this fucking dick. He's having an affair on his wife and he brings like with her best friend. And the three of them alone go and climb some incredibly difficult, challenging mountain face. Like, I was like, what is this about? This guy is absolutely. I mean, I guess they were trying to kill her. An adrenaline junkie. There was one point, though, where I did think Hunter's going to murder Becky up there. Wait, on the tower? Yes. I was like, she's brought her up there and we're going to find out that she also murdered Dan.
16:23I felt we were close to that at one point. I have one just, well, one little thing I want to bring up here too. Just as we're talking about the opening of the movie, there's a couple of questions I had about Becky. And I feel like she's made a bunch of bad decisions, right? Not just only to climb this tower with a stranger, all this sort of stuff. that's not a stranger that's i mean it's her best is it her best is it her best i mean because i would in my mind i would say that dan and uh shiloh should have been best friends and then becky came into it but it seems like shiloh and becky are best friends and dan came into their relationship is that what we're trying to believe i mean i'm just if i like unclear it did seem like i'd like to call her hunter paul okay i'm gonna i'm sorry i'm gonna call her danger d I mean, just because I'm an OG subscriber to her channel.
17:16I'm just going to call her Cherry Pie because she is my Cherry Pie. Again, another thing that reminded me that a middle-aged person wrote this script is that the recurring song is Warrant's Cherry Pie.
17:34Jason Mantzoukas:Today's podcast is brought to you by our friends over at Squarespace. 18:50Jason Mantzoukas:It's been so much. I feel like my day-to-day is so busy. I have no time to tackle all those random tasks on my to-do list, thankfully, that's where TaskRabbit steps in. I just picked a trusted tasker, and they will show up and get it done, and taskers are often available to help that very same day. You can search for a tasker based on cost, skill set, availability, and past client reviews, so you know exactly who's showing up and can have confidence that they know what they are doing. I mean, I love to get things framed, and I will say that I'm pretty crappy at hanging them in a straight line.
19:25Jason Mantzoukas:I called the Tasker and they hung four pictures perfectly on the wall. They look professional. And guess what? I didn't have to redo it a million times because I didn't do it. When life happens, your to-do list grows. Get ahead of it now and get$15 off your first task at TaskRabbit.com or on the TaskRabbit app using the promo code BONKERS. Is there a language that you'd like to learn in preparation for a trip?
20:03Jason Mantzoukas:Yeah, of course there is. When you go out of the country, you don't want to feel like a stupid American. You want to have some semblance of the language. So when you're traveling this summer, there is one thing you need to pack. It is Babbel. That's right. Babbel is built for real life, not vocabless, not verb charts, but real conversation practice. Even just 10 minutes a day with Babbel can help you start having real conversations in as little as three weeks. Lessons are quick, practical, and built by more than 200 language experts. I absolutely love my experience with Babbel. Every day, I make a little time for me and Babbel to learn.
20:40Jason Mantzoukas:And I'm learning just for fun. I'm learning Spanish. And here's the thing. I'm starting to really understand it. It feels truly like a magic trick. I love this app. If you got summer travel coming up, now is the time to start so you can actually use what you learn on the trip. Right now, Babbel is offering listeners up to 60 % off. The lingering question for me is when Becky says something where they're sort of memorializing him up there.
21:17Hunter's crying after they threw off the ashes. And then Becky says something like, yeah, Dan, he's always telling those shit jokes. And I was like, are they saying that he was telling shitty jokes? Yes. Oh, I don't know. I thought she was saying shit jokes. People in America don't speak that way. Yes, that's like a very British. It is. I agree. But wasn't there another instance where they were making fun of his like dad jokes? So you're just saying they're bad. They were bad jokes. He wasn't actually telling jokes about shit. I don't think so. I would like him more as a character if he did only like poopoo shit jokes.
21:58Well, one of my big notes on the movie was because there's a huge chunk of the movie, act two is kind of inert in a lot of ways. There's a lot of like either not much is happening or failed attempts at things that don't amount to much. And I was like, oh, I wish we were in here having more flashbacks, more flashbacks that give us more insight into because when when the cheating was revealed, I was like, oh, I like this. This is an interesting thing to insert here. Now there's this mystery we're uncovering. Becky's unraveling this betrayal from Danger, D, and Dan, of course. And I was like, oh, I wouldn't have.
22:40We see it in those, like I said before, pictures where you see, oh, hunters lurking in the background or whatever. But I would have loved flashbacks that fleshed out that story because so little was happening on the tower.
22:53Jason Mantzoukas:Right, because you do feel like, well, what else could possibly happen on a small platform? And they have to invent certain things because there's moments where, like, you know, where, like, Becky thinks, oh, is Hunter dead? But I'm like, you really have to suspend your disbelief. They are on a tower. It's like pretty much transparent. You know, you can see through everything. And she's like, is she OK? Is she OK? It's like, well, just look. You can look. You would hear it. You would see it. You would. It's all hallucinating now, babe. Well, yeah. Well, that's later. I'm just saying the first kind of moments, which is like, oh, you know, she's not.

23:27It's like, well, you can see what's going on. There's nothing. Here's my question about what they. I understand what you're saying, Jason. I actually really. I enjoyed the movie. I thought like, oh, this is paced. Well, I didn't think it was paced perfectly, but there were things happening that I didn't expect necessarily. But my main question. Well, first. The egg drop challenge. Now, Paul and I are both, both of our children have competed. They compete annually in the egg drop challenge. Now, granted, they're not dropping from that height. Oh, no. Just about a thousand feet lower. Just a thousand feet lower.
24:02They're not climbing 2 ,600 feet in the air. But I did, if I were them, what I would have fashioned is, first of all, that phone needed way more padding. but I would have taken one of our shirts and fashioned some sort of a parachute. How would you do a, how would you do a parachute? Well, I would try to attach it to both. And now we're talking about a lot of structural. Tightly enough to that shoe that it would catch air. And so land a little bit more gently. Maybe. Yeah. Can I also ask why they didn't try this? Yeah. If I'm them and I'm facing certain death. Got it. Okay. We've exhausted all other options.
24:50Let's say the drone has already happened. What I'm going to then do is I'm going to take that rope and I'm going to tie it around both of us. Okay. Around our bodies. And we are going to shimmy down that pole together with the rope. Wait. So you want to have. We're going to hold our arms around the rope. Okay. Okay. We're both holding the rope, but we are using the tension of it to slowly shimmy our way. We're not attached to anything. I'm not saying it's not dangerous. Wait, hold on. First of all, I hope we have some sort of a graphic designer out there who can draw these mock-ups here. So you're saying that you're creating like a life raft structure.
25:35Like your bodies are connected by the hands and the shirt, and you are— Well, you just use—the rope is 50 feet. Just use the rope to, well, you put it around our back, but you can also, we can hold onto the rope on each side. You're on the other side also holding onto the rope. And you're using your feet? And you're using your feet? On the rope with your feet on the pole? Yes, and we're shitting down. Well, that's, I mean, that's a thousand feet. So how do you not slip? I'm not saying it's perfect. I think it would be hard. You go right down. It would be really hard. Here's my first move. I love, by the way, and I'd love for everybody to weigh in on how would you have dealt with this.
26:13First move, unscrew the red light bulb. First move. Somebody's got to notice. Somebody's got to notice. I wrote that down. That's for airplanes. Yes. That's to protect airplanes. So somebody's going to notice that light is not working anymore. And so maybe, maybe somebody will attend to that. And by the way, can I just say this as you're talking about that? That's a good thought, Jason. It's not. There's no way in hell that is a light bulb that was at the top of that. That is a fucking light bulb. And it's like a 60-watt. I've never seen anything as dumb as that. Like, I'm in on this movie, but when she unscrewed a regular fucking, like, free dim light bulb.
26:55I have heavier-duty light bulbs in, like, the outside lighting at my home. And no one's gone up there in such a long time. And that building is abandoned for years. So you tell me that light bulb? It looks like a light bulb that goes into a Christmas candle light that you put in the window of your house at the holidays. It is hilarious. That was so tiny. But yeah, that's my first move. My first move is to cut that light and figure out if somebody will notice that. And I couldn't figure out. I really enjoyed the presence of the binoculars and the flare gun. Yes. But that assumes that people have said somebody's going to get stuck up here.
27:38Okay, that's what I actually, here's who I also want to hear from. Anyone who does that level of like maintenance work. Well, we've seen this recently. Maintenance work. What? On Netflix. We've seen this recently. I'm sorry, you're right, Paul. Alex Honnold, free solo, just climbed a building. But also two people just scaled another building and got engaged to each other at the top of some Empire State Building. I'm talking about I know that that has happened. I am Empire State Building. Yes, of course, Alex, what's his face? But I'm talking about your there are ladders. OK, there's these we're talking about places that are not meant to be scaled.
28:17I'm talking about the flare gun and the binoculars. That's just for regular maintenance workers. I guess so, but why would they need binoculars? I don't know. That's who I want to hear from.
28:29Jason Mantzoukas:Well, maybe the binoculars, I mean, look, I think it's a catbird seat. It's at the top. To me, I'm like, there should be as many tools as you need up there, right? I mean, truly, it's like if you're climbing all the way up there. Babe, a flare gun implies that you need rescuing. Yeah. Well, there you go. Maybe the worker might need rescuing. I don't know. Is there a flare gun at the top of the Empire State Building? I want to figure it out. Also, who's going to go do this big event with a not fully charged drone? Come on. And can I ask, could they tell anyone they were going? Also, you know what it was also giving me?
29:11It was reminding me of 127 hours in a way that I was like, oh, I wish that this had been, even as a lie at the beginning, based on a true story.
29:21Jason Mantzoukas:Me too. By the way, I'm going to also just say that these people don't make good choices. I already know that our hero, Becky, doesn't make a good choice. She hasn't canceled Dan's cell phone plan. It's been a year. Cancel that stuff. You're just paying all that extra money for a cell phone plan? I got that. That makes sense to me. I think I would do that forever. Oh, come on. It's an expense you don't need. But you know what? But you know what I'm surprised at? What? I'm surprised that over these 51 weeks, Danger D, Hunter, has not been calling Dan's phone to hear his voice. Well, this is what I was going to say.
30:01What if she called and checked the messages and one was from... Yes, and Becky saw it. Oh, you're saying if Becky just checked his messages from Hunter. Absolutely. Yes. Like, you're telling me Becky hasn't gone through that phone in the last 51 weeks? Oh, that's a really good point. Maybe the phone was on his body. And this is just the thing. That's possible. But here's the thing. I, the only question I had about Becky's grief was why, why was she keeping that box of cremated ashes on our kitchen table with her keys strewn over it? Yeah, the FedEx box. That felt disrespectful. Well, there's one line here that Hunter says.
30:39And I was like, even as a friend, I'm having a hard time swallowing this line. And she goes, the only thing that drives me nuts is that box of ashes collecting dust. I'm like, it's a very specific thing to be driving you nuts, especially since you've never. There are lines when when Becky says to when she notices a picture of her looking so happy. Well, I think we'll find out later that it's because she was with Hunter was with Dan. But she says to her, she goes, oh, I wonder who that guy is. He sure knows how to tickle your whistle. Ew.
31:13Jason Mantzoukas:Wouldn't it be like whistle your what your whistle but tickle your whistle? I mean what? Tickle your whistle? I mean is that like a fingering joke? Is it possible that this script was written by Tilly Norwood? Like a yes or a like a middle-aged foreign man? Do you think Tilly Norwood both wrote it and cast it? Is this honest question? Is this a Tilly Norwood production? This could all be Tilly. Is this from Norwood Industries? I just here's the question I have about Hunter and this is why I do think Hunter's a psychopath and again I would follow her onto this poll but she doesn't do a bit of research I guess this is why they're both bad climbers a bit of research about this structure there's no plan integrity of this structure well there's no absolute plan on any way of like if we get stuck if we get lost if there's like that structure is rotted to the bones Yeah.
32:11It's bad. Oh, no. Like, screws are falling. Like, they also, once they're there, they have ample evidence as they begin climbing that they should stop and turn back. Because this is, oh, well, a cool idea, structurally unsound. Yes.
32:24Jason Mantzoukas:You know? And I feel like, like, it would have been better, too, if, I mean, they did set up that the town knows that the thing is there. And the light goes on because, I don't, I guess even. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, I guess it's set up as being dangerous. But I also... My assumption is people... I mean, if Hunter knows it's there and can be climbed, mustn't it just be a thing people do? Well, no. She's Danger D. She's Danger D. She's doing something real dangerous. She's doing things that you wouldn't even think of. I mean, for the views. For the views. For the likes. I love Danger D. And by the way, the ultimate like was Dan's like.
33:02I think I'm in love with Danger D.
33:05Jason Mantzoukas:I love Danger D. Okay, what were the... this is the question I had about Becky. And this may be, we may have answered this, but does she have a fear of climbing or is she trying to get over her grief? Because I couldn't quite tell, like the way she approached it, it seemed like she was legitimately afraid of climbing, but it also felt like this trip was about her getting over her grief. I think that the, if I'm doing a little work on the movie's behalf, I think the movie would like us to believe she loves climbing. Okay, that's what I was saying. She loves climbing, but her grief has kept her off of it.
33:44And this is meant to be. And that Hunter is trying to get her back on the quote-unquote mountain. You know what I mean? Here's what I will say, though. I don't know that Dan would have wanted this area to be his final resting place. You don't know what Dan wanted. This is not beautiful at all. It's also like, I don't know Dan. I don't know Dan to be climbing structures. I know Dan to be climbing mountains. Like, why here? It's like at the middle of a fucking, no offense, but Podunk Town, which apparently has a lot of hotel businesses. Their entire plan calculated around when people checked out of the shittiest hotel.
34:26I still don't know. That's an early checkout, by the way. 10 a.m.? 10 a.m.? Can I tell you? I mean, call down and ask for a later checkout. At this point, at this point, who's checking out who in any hotel is checking out exactly at the checkout time? If the checkout time is 10 a.m., I'm not staying in that hotel. I also want to know, you know, Paul and I, I hate to admit this, but we do have a history of pushing that checkout time. Yeah. Well, June has it. Well, there's a couple. Well, no. We always ask to push. But then even when we get the new time, which is like, oh, it can't be 11. Well, like this just happened where they said, I said, oh, can we have a later checkout time?
35:07Just this Sunday. And they said, absolutely. What works for you? Well, that's a hard question. What works for me is now I live here. Yeah. It's like I don't like to stay the night. But I said, well, how about one? And then they said we can do noon. And I said, OK. So there was a little bit of a negotiation. Now, noon comes and goes. Well, let me, can I just put this into perspective? It's 11.50. And June goes, let's go swimming. And I go, well, we're not packed. We're not even packed. We're not packed. And I go. And the pool was right outside. And June's like, well, we can go swimming. And to which she did.
35:51And did June swim for about an hour? Yeah, they did. Oh, my God. I'm packing up this room. I look out the window and I think I see June coming in to help out the packing. But no, she's going into the hot tub with our boys. Just like, all right. And I'm like, it is. I was teaching them to dive. It's very rare we have a pool deep enough to dive in. And that's critical. You got to take advantage. Yeah. You got to take advantage. Summer studies. So, yeah. So, I mean, and we have done this. We just recently, by the way, we had to check out a hotel on Saturday and Sunday this week, two different hotels.
36:26That's a cool thing. And both, we were aggressively late on both. But that's the thing. Nothing happens to us. Right. I also feel if you have a bag open on the bed and housekeeping comes in, you're like, I'm in the, I'm doing it. I'm almost out. I'm in the process. And of course, I want them to have their time. Oh, it's only happened once that a housekeeper's actually come in and I've said, I'm so sorry. We're literally walking out. And the bag's really gorgeous right there. It's like, I'm a guest also at other hotels. I want you to have your time to clean this room. I really, really do. Well, my question, my follow-up question was, how would you feel about arriving at your hotel at 3 and the room is not clean?
37:03Well, I did that. The hotel that we were checking out of on Sunday,
37:09Jason Mantzoukas:their check-in was, get this, 4 p.m. What? And I was like, that's, yeah. I'm paying for a night that starts at 4? I don't think so. I was so angry. I was like, what are you talking about? 4 p.m.? And the other hotel we checked in, it was 3.30, right? Check-in was only after 3.30? I was like, this is not— I've sensed a trend, though. Well, that's because people are not checking out. I know. I do think we're part of that problem, Paul. Well, but no, no, no. They didn't go like, let me tell you, the room's not ready. They're like, no, no, no, our check-in time—like, the one on Sunday was like, our check-in time is at 4.
37:44Compeller high water. The room could be sitting there. I looked at them with it. And then maybe they're trying to drive you into the restaurant or drive you into spending more money. I think quarantine had they've all trimmed down on their housekeeping staff. That's why they all have those stupid signs like let's not make up the room. They they they have pulled back and we are suffering on the check ins and the check outs. OK, it all comes back to us. We we are the victims. We are the victims. Not not not. But going back to that motel. I want a full 24 hours in there. Check in at four or check out at four?
38:23Why am I fucking getting just a little chunk? Why am I getting 16 hours? Why are we paying for the day? That is a little weird. I didn't get a full 24 hours. Give me four to four. But then what is the next person supposed to do?
38:34Jason Mantzoukas:They have to figure that fucking shit out. Like I need 24 hours. They're on seven to seven. Yeah. Figure it out, people. Get it on your fucking schedule. I'm like, I'm not going to get a full day. It's like a production hour. It's just like the week gets later and later. It gets later and later. You're telling me four is check-in and check-out is noon. Oh, I get to Hawaii tonight. I'm excited. I check in at 3 a.m.
38:59Here's my question. By the way, can I just tell you one quick thing? Sorry. The most passive-aggressive thing I ever did was I was going to New York. I was on like an overnight flight. And I said, oh, we can help accommodate an early check-in. Now, did I get there very early? Yeah, I got there around 6 in the morning to this hotel. And I was like, can I check? Well, then you got to pay for the night. Well, I said, can I check in? I said, no, room's not ready till 10 a.m. To which I said, fine. And then I took myself and I laid down on the couch in the lobby like a bed.
39:38What hotel was this? It was some hotel in Midtown Manhattan. and I it was tired one that you were not upset to never go back to again yeah there was definitely an energy of I'm never coming back I know I'm never coming back associated with your name on that hotel's yeah it's the Hilton where Luigi you know famously oh no shoes off couch I laid down I made myself I made myself a menace to that place I was like I pad out like I I had nice suitcase Yeah, I think I lost my mind. I think it was. I didn't sleep on that flight. I was really tired. I had a big day coming up, and I wanted to check in. And everyone had told me and assured me, don't worry about it.
40:22You will be able to check in early. And I couldn't. And I set up camp. 10 is still early. I'm amazed you got 10 a.m. as a check-in. What I would have done. I think that was a normal check-in time. What I would have done, especially at a not great hotel, if it's reasonable. It was a nice one. By the way, it was a nice one. Oh, my God. But I would have just bought the night before. Well, I tried to do that, too. I tried to do that. I tried a couple things. They said no, no, no, no, no. So I apologize if anyone saw me sleeping in a hotel lobby like a vagrant. You don't have to apologize to them. Best thing that's ever happened to you financially.
40:58Go. Easy. Sold my car on Carvana. Amazing offer. Really? I hit 200 on a scratcher. Did the scratcher come to your house and hand you a check? No. How many scratchers did you hit to get that? All of this is to say what I'm just going to go back to is the motel that's near this structure, this rusted out fucking dank like old TV tower.
43:05That motel, the check out is at 10 a.m., which means they must, I can't imagine check-ins before three. Wait a second. No, no. In that town, they're having a check-in at three? All right. Well, I don't know. That's what I'm asking. That's where most check-ins are. All right. I think that's pretty standard for any hotel or hotel. I'm going to double check this. I think this is like a roadside motel. I think this is first come, first serve. Okay. Well, that makes more sense because I'm like, wow, they're giving, maybe there's one housekeeper, But like that's a lot of time to clean. Yeah, I agree.
43:36But I think this is even lower stakes than any of that.
43:39Jason Mantzoukas:The average check in time for hotels is 3 p.m. With an industry standard ranging from 3 to 4. Checkout windows are from 10 to 11. And that four hour gap is 10 is crazy. 10 is crazy stuff. Anyway, I guess four is normal. This is three to four. doing who are the guys that steal the car you know oh yeah what's their deal well that's the thing i i wanted to establish them more as like a breaking bad duo like i think that they were alluded to as being like meth-y weirdos but i feel like they should help the cops they're gonna fucking bust us or do do something suspect because for them to see a flare and go oh great idea let's go steal the car.
44:30Like, I was like, oh, this is such a leap. Did they see them up there? Genuine question. Did they see them? Yeah, they did. Yes, they have a telescope. They have a telescope like they're pirates. Yeah, they're, they're, it's not binoculars. They saw two young women who are too young to be married up there alone. In push-up bras. In push-up bras. In VS. By the way, I've never heard Victoria's Secret referred to as VS. In VS push-up bras. No. Never. And they, that was bizarre. and they steal their car and leave them to a certain death? I mean, I couldn't make heads or tails out of that. Those guys are sketchballs, absolutely.
45:08But I think I needed more sketchiness from them to buy. Or you know what would have been fun is if they had an interaction where those guys came over to their diner table and was like, hey, ladies, you like to party in town? And they're like, get away from us, you fucking skank meth heads. And then they saw him and they're like, let's kill him. That's exactly what should have happened is we should have met like five townspeople. We met the woman, the waitress at the diner who pointed out where the tower is. In the diner, we should have met like four or five people that throughout the movie we could have cut to to see that, like when the truck hits the drone.
45:43Right. You know what I mean? Like, like we never get, and I get it because it would maybe let some of the tension out or something like that if we weren't just with the girls the whole time. But there's an element of like, oh, it would have helped me understand, ooh, somebody could, if somebody picked up the drone, you know, engaged with it more, and then it still amounted to nothing, those kind of like, oh, are they going to get rest? Like, this moment of the guys being like, oh, they see us, they see us, and then they're stealing my car happens in one and a half minutes. So quickly. I missed some of it.
46:18Now, I don't really know how far binoculars your average binocular can see but i found it pretty unbelievable that those binoculars could watch that man outside of his truck look over and see the drone with the note
46:36Jason Mantzoukas:in it but not pick it up well that note in it like that was such a look if i see a drone i'm like oh i guess they want to talk to me it would be like get the fuck away like i would just leave it there on the road too it didn't seem to me like i don't know let me go investigate yeah yeah i mean there's a lot of things that i feel like they could have done but what i think was very smart um was oh and you know what wow we really have not we've gotten this far into the podcast without revealing that in that almost all of act three is a fight club situation a tyler durn Oh, yes. Where our two girls...
47:16Did it surprise me? No, it didn't. Although I thought they effectively camouflaged it. Right, I thought so too. You know, so there's a moment where a hunter is going to descend the 50 feet of rope that they have in order to pick up the backpack so that they can get the drone and blah, blah, blah. And there's all this mechanics of her going down. It's super dangerous. She gets the backpack and then she gets she Becky rather pulls her up, pulls her up. And then they they're up there and they get the drone and everything we've talked about with the drone and everything happens after that. And then at the end of the movie, it's revealed that, in fact, Becky has been doing this all alone because in that sequence at the end of act two, Hunter has fallen to her death.
48:04She was unsuccessful in she was successful in getting the backpack, but she fell to her death afterwards. And that every conversation that they've been having, Becky's been having with herself in a fight club kind of a way. Right. Is that a good? Yeah. Right. So everything that she's like when she's charging the like, by the way, that was the funniest thing. When she's holding the drone to her chest, she plugs it in, which is something that I still don't believe is a functional way to charge. I don't think you can do a charger and all that sort of stuff. The wedding band is the conduit. Loved that.
48:37Loved it. But she's not tied onto the pole at all. She's simply holding her entire body weight up. That was just core work. But how long would it take to charge four bars of a drone? I'm going to say like three hours? I don't know.
48:53Jason Mantzoukas:Right, because it's like that to me is the funniest thing. She's holding on and she goes, what does the one bar mean? And I'm like, all right, so you don't even understand that technology? Like we all understand that the bars, one bar is. But by the way, you watch Survivor and you look at some of the Survivor challenges where it's always the tiny little women that are winning the pole challenges where they just have to sort of koala bear around the poles. It's not the big buff guys. And they stay on for hours. Oh, yeah. And just like Hunter says, it's just like pole dancing. It is just like pole dancing.
49:26And then when she sings cherry pie and the way that she sings it, it's not, it doesn't feel like it's a pole dance. Like she's like, she's my cherry pie. I'm like, oh no. Now I have to say, I thought that they did a great job. You know, again, I really enjoyed this movie. I thought they did a great job with the makeup and showing them sort of the sun damage, the chapped lips day to day, looking so dehydrated. But my question was this, and I think this is only something that women are going to relate to. You are up there. By the way, moment one, just seeing the structure, I'm putting my hair up in a fucking bun.
50:11Yep. Done. The fact done. That's literally the first thing that's happening. I mean, I would do it too, but I have a couple issues. Now, I understand, okay, we've used one hairband to secure the phone into the shoe. But it turns out, as we'll find out later on in the end sequence, she had another hairband the whole time. The fact that that hair was down. Also, they never do an inventory of the backpack. No. Mustn't there be so much stuff in an adrenaline junkie's gear-based backpack? Well, anything to help you survive. Where were the snacks? Where were they? Well, my favorite moment was when they finally get the water and she starts drinking it.
50:56And she's like, you want some? She's like, actually, we should save it. I'm like, that's the worst thing you could possibly say to somebody who just took a big, like, we should ration it now. It's like, no, no, say that before she takes a giant gulp of it here. People, come on. These people are the dumbest. Cancel that cell phone plan. It definitely felt to me like, oh, they're too young. They're not prepared. But here's my question. When they start to go down and the ladder collapses, they seem so shocked later on that the ladder is not there. Yes. Well, because I think it was done in CGI and they weren't there for the actual ladder collapse.
51:30No, agreed. They are like, when they get to the top of the platform, they're laughing. They're like, we did it. And then they look at her like, wait a minute. And I'm like, this all just fell from like under your feet. What did you think? Well, the ladder collapse, to me, really hit home because it felt like when I'm building Legos, like when you're trying to put a real ladder together and like I was building the Daily Bugle and it fell apart in such a way that it was almost like paper. Like I didn't even understood how it could have held them because it crumbled.
52:01Jason Mantzoukas:It crumbled into dust. And it feels like, why don't you do that? Like have them lose a rung in the middle of it or something. It just seems like. And then, you know what really pissed me off, though, Paul? then because there's a little bit of that ladder there's probably like five feet that's remained there okay that's attached to the platform when they get back on that to go get the to sort of hang off of it to try to get service she doesn't check that ladder to see if it's secure they jump right back on it yeah and this thing is crumbling and when one of the screws falls out and falls near her and makes a metallic cling.
52:39She just goes, what was that? What was that? What was that? That was let's start going back down. Get out of there. What are you talking about? Get out of there. I didn't appreciate, and again, I really enjoyed this movie, but I did not appreciate that they didn't show us the rescue. That was crazy. How did they get up there? How did they get up there? Here's the thing. This is where the low budget comes into effect. This is all money. And my guess is a helicopter. Oh, and then they just lowered it right at the base. They didn't bring it to a hospital there was a helicopter uh right circling but again they lowered her instead of bringing her into a hospital this woman who's bleeding out yes i imagine and look and again jason you may know more about this than than i do about because you love alone and the survival elements of this stuff but here's a woman who just ate a raw vulture yeah like a ripped into its chest and started eating its organs she is puking and shitting like i i understand like we need energy but it's not like that goes down smooth and gives you energy it's that is going to make you completely fucking barf.
53:41Could she try to cook it? Are we going to make fire up there? Or just cook it on the hot thing. It must have been roasting hot in the daytime. Just wait. You're basically on a grill top. Just like maybe salt. Maybe a little bit of salt on each side. A good sear on that vulture breast. Use the salt from that. Oh my god. You know what I also was like? They really did seem to have much basic just first aid training either because when she says about her leg oh you know it doesn't hurt anymore it's just starting to smell i thought oh well we are we're done oh honey we're in a bad way sweetie like she announces that like it's all good it's just smelling now and now are are are vultures similar to borg where they have one collective mind because It's a hive mind.
54:35It's a hive mind because that one vulture understood, like, oh, got it. You killed my friend. By the way, best vulture fight since Spider-Man Homecoming here. Oh, my God. Where she fucking fights. That was an amazing sequence. It made me laugh so hard when she fought. And let me be clear. Vultures are big. Yes. This is a bird that has a six-foot wingspan. So big that at a certain point I was like, should they try to get on the back of a vulture and just ride it home? I thought that you were going to put the wings on her shoulders. Like the eagles that rescue Gandalf when he's at the top of Minasthenia?
55:09I thought it was going to be a little bit like an Icarus story. Get those wings on. Fly. Oh, my God. Oh, my Lord. Oh, wow. God, that made me laugh. Yeah, her fighting the vulture. These were the beats that I was like, yes. The reveal that it's a Tyler Durden fight club scenario. Her fighting the vulture, getting the energy, going down. And then what we're forgetting. Her cramming the Converse All-Star into Hunter's body cavity. The most beautiful egg drop scenario. I'm sorry. That was incredible. And when she says, I got to make sure this gets a sick. It went in real smooth. It went in real, real smooth.
55:50Jason Mantzoukas:She shoved it in there like you're just putting a sneaker in a box. It was like her body was built to hold sneakers. Hunter has no ribs whatsoever. I was like, this is, you know, gave me a whole new idea about packing cubes. The, uh, when I saw her do this. I mean, you're going to need like a Sea to Summit waterproof packing cube to get that phone. By the way, that's going to be a hard thing to explain too. Yes. You know? The other question is this. Was the plan that by the time it got to the ground, the egg drop got, it would send something like, like, because sometimes when I try to send a text that says not sent, it doesn't just automatically keep on running it through.
56:30It just doesn't send. And that's part of the problem for like why we didn't get to see the rescue is was what happened. The phone dropped inside of Hunter's body and then the text went through to Jeffrey Dean Morgan and then he called the authorities. But then he was the last to arrive. But he also didn't think that she was alive because he sees that body on the ground. Oh, my God. I think that he just finds out. Right. The other question is, was she live streaming? and did the live stream start inside the converse inside Hunter's body that's quite a way for an influencer to go but it looked like she texted her dad was what it looked like I think she did phones of course don't work that way and again the movie just needs to be over at that point so even though earlier in the movie itself they were like oh we can't just send a text because it might not go through We have to do an update to my channel.
57:29Well, I mean, by the way, I hope that she takes over her channel. Oh, that would be beautiful. I mean, that would be the beautiful twist of fate. Are we all willing to say that if we are in some sort of catastrophic, life-threatening situation, we will upload a message to the How Did This Get Made channels? Is that the safest route? The Discord will kind of give us a bunch of corrections and omissions of how we should have saved ourselves. And definitely correct any spelling errors or punctuation or grammar. That they'll do. If we're in a bad situation, we will update the Discord or maybe just Reddit.
58:08Well, yes, Reddit could work too. Stuck at the top of a tower, AMA. Now, I will tell you this all. I would love for us to...
58:20Jason Mantzoukas:a lot of people actually that tower is not in Nevada it's in this one you're actually mispronouncing Nevada no I actually know what Nevada is the the towers aren't as good as they used to be I would love to have seen us in this movie unfortunately we were not cast in the sequel fall to dead point which comes out this September wait no is it Becky again? Well, this is two women find themselves in a desperate fight for survival when a mountain rock side leaves them stranded on a fragile plank more than 3 ,000 feet in the air. It's Danger D's sister. D's sister? Yes. It's Jax Hunter. And they're on a beam.
59:11Jax Hunter? That's her name. Fuck yeah. And Jax Hunter is played by Harriet Slater. But But if you want to look at the poster for it, it's pretty amazing. It's like the Indiana Jones rope bridge from Temple of Doom, but it's just a plank. And there's one person falling off that plank and the other person just on the plank. So they're stuck on a rope bridge for the whole movie? I love it. If that's what it is, I love it. It says, yeah, they're trapped very high. There's a trailer out for it right now. But it is coming out September 2nd. I will be watching it. Again, I enjoyed this movie. I did, too.
59:49I really did. Like, of all the things that we watched, it went down smooth. It was fun. I think these two actresses did an amazing job. I did, too. It would have been insufferable if they weren't very watchable. Yes. Do we think that Hunter and Dan had to die because they cheated? Is this a moral tale? That's a moral, yeah. Is this a story about... This is paid by a Catholic church. Yeah. Is this a story about, like, hey, you cheat, you die? I don't know. Because, again, I'm like, they're too young to be married. They don't have any children. So I'm like, go do whatever the fuck you want. What are we talking about here?
1:00:25A good chance to get started over. It's a great, there's no children involved. Like, who cares? Yeah. No, I agree. I agree. And so much so that I was like, at a certain point, I really wanted Becky on top. Once Becky knows that Ben and Hunter were cheating and that she knows that her dad didn't like Ben and all this stuff, I wouldn't have minded once she's up there and she realizes she's alone, maybe before she fights the vulture or something like that. If she just like opened a Tinder profile. That was swiping. And then it falls. Just started swiping up there. And the swipes. And she starts a Tinder profile.
1:01:05When the shoe hits the ground, all of a sudden guys are like, swipe right, swipe right. and then uh and that's how they here's a question why did jeffrey dean morgan do this movie i was i had the same question i've got to assume he knows somebody in this movie like there's a he's great he's always amazing i love him in everything can i tell you i'm gonna tell you uh it probably has something to do with like a hundred thousand dollars for a day and a half of work maybe like i i feel like maybe i i have a feeling they threw a bunch of money at him he's great but he only has He really only has one scene outside the bar.
1:01:38And then later in the movie, he's still in that same dark alley outside the bar. So he's I want to know what he's up to in the meantime. And then he just kind of pulls up and is like, are you OK? And that's it. Like he. Yeah. A day at the most. A day at the most, I would think. And by the way. Checked out at 10 a.m. And he checked in at 4 p.m. Yeah. Here's what I'll tell you. We will. We're wrapping it up here. but I think we have to revisit Fall 2. I'm looking at the trailer right now. The plank is very tiny. But this movie, people love this movie.
1:02:11Jason Mantzoukas:It is now time for a second opinion. Paul and Jason and June talk a lot about what makes a movie good or not. But everyone knows they're actually full of shit. We need a second opinion. someone that knows what they're talking about we need a second opinion we need a second give me a second we need a second opinion there are and this is kind of a record in a way because well this movie's only been out for a short period of time, a couple of years, 1 ,041 reviews for this, which is very high for a new film. 78 % are five-star reviews. And Barbara Klotz writes, anyone who has a fear of heights definitely needs to wear an adult diaper.
1:03:10Jason Mantzoukas:The ass pucker meter broke during this movie. This movie rates five stars for suspense and sheer entertainment value, a rare treat for a very original and creative storyline. All of that is in caps. The title, Wow. Ready to get the scare of your life? Five stars. Wow. Alright. She's ready for it. And then Joe writes, We have a home theater, so we watch a lot of movies. It's been quite a while since a movie has made me sit on the edge of my seat with my hand over my eyes, peeking through my fingers, and occasionally just about nearly almost soiling myself. What? For two hours this movie turned me into a sissy wanting my mommy five stars um why is everyone dealing with ass issues on this movie ass puckering shitting themselves gross really this one by J.
1:04:12Vincent is titled well I'll just read it
1:04:16Jason Mantzoukas:J. Vincent writes excellent portrayal of female friendship offering women characters who are fully rounded, capable, and intelligent without being belligerently feminist in its presentation. Although it definitely does play the old trope of betrayal. Five stars. Excellent portrayal of female friendship without being belligerently feminist. I don't even, I don't understand. Yeah. And I mean, people are really nervous during this movie. Thomas Morgan writes, this is one of the most exciting scary films i've ever seen this century because das boot was last century what what the submarine movie yeah okay i mean gigs writes don't go climbing where you don't belong in the first place the tension was practically unbearable we all identify with the characters we feel what they feel we see what they see we're with them every step of the way Okay, self-preservation shouts at us all with multiple voices, and they're very loud.
1:05:16Jason Mantzoukas:The terrifying part of falling to one's death is that you have time to think about it on the way down. How will I feel when I hit the ground? Will I feel it? Will my last sensation be agonizing pain? Why did I do this? I should have stayed home. No more getting drunk. No more getting laid. No more laughing. No more having good times with friends. All these thoughts and more will pass through your mind like the fast-forward on a tape player. all while you're at terminal velocity, feeling the wind rushing past you at 125 miles an hour and screaming the fateful, ah, we see this on television or in James Bond movies.
1:05:52And aside from the occasional feelings of nausea and vertigo, I got through the film okay, hoping it would all turn out well in the end. And at the very end of the film, I felt exhausted and spent, and I was glad it was over. This film was extremely well-written, superbly acted. The filming was extraordinary, especially at the heights it appeared to be. and I can only think a large amount of funding was spent on the CGI because there was one of those adrenaline junkies holding the camera. Although I do doubt they pay actors to do their own climbing. Lots of movie magic. I will add this to the other movies in my collection of mountain climbing films like K2, Into Thin Air, Mission Impossible 2, Vertical Limit, Cliffhanger, and The North Face.
1:06:27That's as far as I'll ever get to being on some sheer cliff face or treasured mountainside. Five stars. Don't look down. Wow. Or a Paul Sheer rock face. That was so much information. So much. And by the way, I cut it down. I mean, the first line is, I didn't watch this movie. I endured it. The person seems to feel as though they shot this movie at that height. Yes. Yes, that's exactly the problem. They just shot it on a tall mountain. They shot it on a tall mountain, and so it looked like they were high. They unfortunately built it on an anthill that shut down production. Oh, really? Yes. and then they got caught in a windstorm which almost knocked the whole thing over and it was based on the real KXTV KROV Tower in Walnut Grove, California.
1:07:16Okay. The second stall structure in the United States. Jason, June, any thoughts about this movie? Anything that we didn't mention? I don't, I mean, I think we covered pretty much everything. Yeah, I mean, the one thing, like I just, I think that if I am, If it comes to it and I have to fight a vulture, I think I'm jumping off. Saying my last. That's it. You're going to kill yourself.
1:07:43Jason Mantzoukas:Wow. Okay. If you could wrangle a couple of vultures, you might be able to fly away with them. You think so? No. Guys, I got to tell you. Guys, I just, and I know we got to wrap it up here. I want to tell you this. I just looked at Virginia Gardner because I'm like, Virginia Gardner, I like her. I want to see what she's in next. I like her. She is in a movie called Killer Whale about two best friends who find themselves trapped on a remote lagoon with a vengeful orca. Oh, she's making some great choices. She is doing it. By the way, Scott, put it on the list. Killer Whale. I mean, we're having a Virginia Gardner fall or summer.
1:08:29I'm ready for it all. I mean, she's doing it. doing our summer gardening she oh my gosh uh so june we know that june would kill herself jason you are a survivalist in our group you are the biggest survivalist any i would i would certainly try some stuff and of course i would too i'm just saying it ends you know it ends with us me and the yeah no i don't think i'm coming down you know i mean like but i would try more stuff For me, I would also be more prepared, if I'm honest. I would hope so. Jason asked, is this movie about an indictment on people who cheat or the people who cheat pay the ultimate price?
1:09:12What I would say is this is a movie about social media influencers who are fucking with nature. She took that picture with that dead donkey. She said feeling peckish. And from that moment on, she has doomed herself to death. that to me felt like leave the world alone it's not all about just getting your likes it's not all about getting the thing you know what we should all be sitting down talking about our favorite wrestlers not climbing the top of the mountains all right that's what we should that's what this movie is about let's take away the mountains and just talk about stone cold steve austin or mankind let's sit there she should just be hanging out with jeffrey dean morgan and his candy shop in upstate New York that he owns and runs with Paul Rudd and having a nice life.
1:09:59And you know what? Great. You're rid of Dan. The cheater Dan. I like Mason Gooding too. And I think maybe that was my hard time with him because I have a positive association with him in those Scream movies. I like him as an actor. So I feel like they needed more of a dick. And I think he should have been more of a dick in that first scene. What are you afraid of? Just jump. I would have liked a little bit of that. Just give me a little bit. I don't know. I think I also would have liked it if in the beginning they had been climbing a non-mountain thing. So that it was. They're more adventure climbers.
1:10:30I wish this was on a mountain. Yeah, no, I hear that. I wish just for the visuals, this looked better than just them atop a rusty tower. Well, you're going to get it in fall too. They're on a plank. Can't wait. They're on a literal plank.
1:10:46Jason Mantzoukas:June L on Prime right now. Number one show in the world on Amazon for many, many weeks. And one of the most popular shows right now on Prime. It's great. I guess I just did the plug. Yeah, I have nothing more to say. Go watch it, everyone. It's really a sweet, fun show. It's fantastic. Jason, anything you'd like to plug? Oh, you know what I would love to plug, actually? my new favorite relaxation show is is the new season of fake or fortune has started oh wow a spinoff of antiques roadshow don't don't get it twisted and boy is it dynamite fake or fortune this is a show in which people the the experts somebody comes to the experts and says i think i have a modigliani painting and they have to go and try and forensically investigate this painting and try and prove that it is in fact a fake or it's worth a fortune oh i love this all right interesting um i uh i just want to also say we didn't talk about a t-shirt but i do feel like this would be great to make a i love you in morse code t-shirt but it doesn't say three yeah a one four three i think we don't even have to say i love you on it just like dan we don't have to say i love dan could never say he loved you to either of the women that he loved No, that's true.
1:12:07And he died. He died there, thinking that thought on the way down.
