Key claims
Coaches “fly blind” without analytics; don’t focus only on downloads—use engagement/retention; iterate based on data; review regularly (not quarterly).
Notable examples
Business coach topic categories (high-ticket sales, client acquisition, pricing strategy, mindset) and a pricing-strategy vs high-ticket-sales download comparison; retention benchmarks (below 70%, cut episodes if below 50%); toddler-coach spinoff titles; retention-drop causes (weak hook, tangents/slow pacing).

Welcome to How to Grow a Podcast that attracts high-ticket online coaching clients. The show helping coaches, consultants, and experts turn your slow-growth podcast into a profitable client attraction system. At the end of this episode, I'll share a little more about who I am and what we do at my company, GetMoreListeners.com. It might even shock you. But for now, let's dive into the episode. In this episode, you'll discover why you need to start reading your podcast analytics to gain a competitive edge.
0:41How analyzing listener data can help you refine your podcast strategy to attract high ticket clients. And simple steps you can take today to accelerate growth based on what the numbers are telling you. This is a topic that doesn't get nearly enough attention in the podcasting space. Most online coaches with podcasts are flying blind, and it's costing them clients, or costing you clients. I'm sure we can agree that your podcast success depends on how well your content resonates with your ideal clients. Over a prolonged period of time, you might have one episode that blows up and attracts a flood of new listeners.
1:16That's great. If your podcast as a whole doesn't consistently resonate with your audience, those listeners won't stick around. They won't hear your offers. They won't book calls with you. By measuring your data and looking at your podcast analytics, you gain critical insights into what's working and what's not. This allows you to optimize your strategy and deliver the best content to your audience. That's your competitive advantage, being able to provide the highest value compared to any other show in your niche. It's impossible to do that if you don't look at your data and learn how to make data-driven decisions.
1:49Let me walk you through the most common mistakes I see on a regular basis. Mistake number one, completely overlooking analytics. This is like driving with a blindfold on, not knowing what speed you're going or what direction you're moving in. It's dangerous, okay? Maybe dangerous is dramatic, but you get the point. When you don't collect and analyze your data, you can't understand how well your podcast is performing. You can't identify trends. You can't make informed decisions. Here's the thing. Let's say two coaches start podcasts. They have the same level of expertise, the same authority, the same personality, Which one will gain traction faster and attract clients more consistently?
2:27The coach who looks at their data regularly sees what's working and doubles down on it. The other coach, they're guessing, they're hoping, they're inviting random guests and covering random topics without any strategy. Data-driven decisions are your competitive edge. I believe your podcast is here to serve your audience. If you ignore the data and don't look at what's working, you're just guessing, and that's not serving anyone. That's just feeding your ego. Mistake number two, fixating solely on download numbers. Yes, it feels great when your monthly downloads are growing. And yes, it's terrible when they're not.
3:01But here's the issue. Constantly looking at your download numbers without diving deeper into what they mean doesn't help you improve. It's like focusing only on the number of people passing by your lemonade stand without knowing if they're actually buying and loving your lemonade. What you need to focus on instead, engagement metrics, retention, time interaction. These give you a much clearer picture of the health of your show and how well your content is converting listeners into clients. Mistake number three, failing to experiment and iterate. Imagine you're sticking to a format that isn't resonating with your audience, but you decide, that's just how I want to do it.
3:38If that's your mindset, don't complain. When listeners don't stick around and you don't attract clients. Look, if your podcast is purely for you, great. But if you're listening to this episode, it's because you want to grow faster, build authority, and attract high-ticket clients. You can't afford to see what's working in the data and then not act on it. Action and iteration are vital. Mistake number four, not reviewing data regularly. This needs to be a continuous process. Plan, experiment, observe, review, feedback, repeat. When you don't look at your data regularly, or you only check it once every three or four months, it's very hard to have a pulse on what your audience loves.
4:19By the time you realize something's not working, you're already three months deep, potentially moving in the wrong direction and sabotaging your growth. Because you're covering content your ideal clients don't want. If you looked at your data regularly, you'd have noticed much sooner. Let me make this super simple. Here's the exact process to help you understand your podcast analytics and make data-driven decisions that attract clients. Step 1. Get comfortable looking at your numbers. First things first, you need to start regularly checking your analytics. Log into your hosting platform, Buzzsprout, Captivate, Libsyn, whatever you use, and export your data.
4:57Open a Google Sheet or Excel file. You're going to start tracking episode titles and total downloads for each episode. Step two, find out what your most popular topics are. Here's where it gets powerful. Categorize your episodes into four main topics. Example for a business coach would be high-ticket sales, client acquisition, pricing strategy, mindset. Example for a health coach, weight loss, gut health, meal planning, stress management. For each topic, figure out how many episodes have I covered on this topic? What's the average number of downloads per topic? Now you have a bird's-eye view. You can clearly see which topics are most popular with your ideal clients, and which ones aren't landing.
5:47Let's say you're a business coach, and you've covered high-ticket sales 10 times with an average of 250 downloads per episode. But you've only covered pricing strategy 3 times, and those episodes average 500 downloads each. That's your signal. Your audience is telling you they want more pricing content. Double down on it. Step three, build your content strategy around winning topics. Put your feelings aside. Look at the numbers. Numbers don't lie. Give your listeners more of what they want. Let's say you're a parenting coach and you discover that episodes about managing strong-willed toddlers consistently outperform everything else.
6:32Great. Now create spinoff episodes from different angles. Three phrases that stop toddler tantrums instantly Why timeouts don't work and what to do instead How to get your strong-willed kid to listen without yelling You've found the topic that resonates. Now go deeper Step four, focus on retention time, not just downloads It's so important to focus on engagement, not just listenership Why? Because just because people show up doesn't mean they're engaged. Retention time shows how much of your episode the average listener completes. If your retention is high, it means your content deeply resonates.
7:18If it's low, people are tuning out, and that means they're not hearing your calls to action or offers. Higher engagement means more impact, more value delivered, Less wasted time creating content people don't want. More money, because engaged listeners become paying clients. How to check your retention time. Log into Apple Podcasts Connect or Spotify for podcasters. It'll show you the average retention time for each episode. If your retention is below 70%, you need to increase it. Analyze where listeners drop off. If they drop off at the start, your hook isn't strong enough. That means, within the first 30 seconds, you must do a better job to sell the listen.
8:08Confirm they're in the right place. Make a bold promise. Give them three benefits they'll gain by sticking around. Example. In this episode, you'll discover the exact three-step system I use to sign$10 ,000 clients without ads. why most coaches are unknowingly repelling premium buyers, and the one mindset shift that changed everything for me. If they drop off halfway through, maybe you're going off on tangents or the pacing is slow. Figure out why and fix it in future episodes. You can also cut long episodes into two parts if your retention is consistently below 50%. This increases perceived value as listeners leave wanting more instead of tuning out.
8:58Once you know your winning topics and your tracking retention, set a regular time each month to review performance and make adjustments. Mark it in your calendar. Maybe it's the first of the month. Maybe it's the last day. Whatever works, just make it consistent. When you regularly check what's working and what's not, you maintain a pulse on your audience. You stay agile. You keep improving. Podcasting is an iterative process. You need feedback loops to consistently improve. By analyzing listener behavior, you gain direction, conviction, and clarity on what topics to cover, what guests to invite, and how to structure your show.
9:43This is how you turn your podcast into a client magnet. In this episode, we covered why you need to start reading your podcast analytics to gain a competitive edge, how analyzing listener data can help you refine your podcast strategy to attract high-ticket clients, and simple steps you can take today to accelerate growth based on what the numbers are telling you.
