0:00You've been following all the standard podcast advice, doing what everyone says works, but your show still isn't attracting high-ticket clients. Welcome to How to Grow a Podcast that attracts high-ticket online coaching clients. The show helping coaches, consultants, and experts turn your slow-growth podcast into a profitable client attraction system. At the end of this episode, I'll share a little more about who I am and what we do at my company, GetMoreListeners.com. It might even shock you, but for now, let's dive into the episode. In today's episode, you'll discover the four most common growth tips that actually sabotage your client attraction, why copying what big-name coaches do sets you up for failure, and finally, what to do instead to turn your podcast into a predictable client generation system.

0:51Let's dive in. In our work with coaching podcasts, we've seen our fair share of terrible advice, and I will not stand for coaches to get sucked in. But why is there so much advice that doesn't work. Here's what happens. Most coaches have a guesswork approach. They see other podcasters doing things, big name coaches, authority figures. And if enough people are following a specific action, like promoting on social media, we think, okay, everyone else is doing it. Therefore, it must work. So we start doing it too. Monkey see, monkey do. But here's the problem. When you follow someone with an entire team behind them, huge following and massive resources, you're playing a completely different game.

1:32Most coaching podcasts aren't full-time operations. They're sidearms we're trying to make profitable client generation systems. So instead of testing things ourselves, we follow along hoping it'll help us attract clients, but that rarely happens. I do not want you wasting a single minute on advice that won't bring you clients. So here are the four terrible pieces of advice you should ignore and what to do instead. Terrible advice number one, Promote on social media. Let me be more specific. There are different types of promotions, but the one you see everywhere, the herd mentality promotion, the one that doesn't work, is the standard go check out my episode post.

2:11Cue the Canva graphic of some random guest. Expect people to tune in for 30 minutes just because they saw a face they don't recognize. If you're doing this right now, it's not a personal dig. It's just the natural path to follow, but it doesn't mean it's the right one. So why doesn't the typical social media promotion work? The Canva graphic, the audiogram, the today's episode features post. In 2015, when there were fewer podcasts, people might have taken a chance. But now it's so competitive. So many people are promoting. What's the value proposition? Why should a potential client care to listen to this episode?

2:47That's where we separate promotion from effective promotion. Not just hoping people will listen, but giving them a reason why they should. Instead of check out this episode, start with, have you ever struggled with attracting high-ticket clients even though you're creating great content? Make it intriguing. Have the value proposition at the forefront. Terrible advice number two, go for your dream guests. The belief is, get people with massive followings on your show. They'll promote to their audience. Their audience becomes your audience. When you write it out, it makes logical sense. Yes, there's value in having high-profile guests, great conversations, networking.

3:27But specifically for growth and client attraction, it's a bad strategy. It won't help you build a consistent client pipeline. Here's why it's flawed. Number one, it leaves too much out of your control. The guest might not promote. If they do, how many followers will see it? How many will actually listen? Number two, let's say the guest does share and brings over some audience. Most of those listeners are coming for the guest. To think they'll easily latch onto the rest of your show and become clients is flawed. Yes, there may be some crossover if you're in similar niches. If you do an exceptional job, some will stick.

4:01But most are coming to listen to that person, not to find a new coaching program. So what should you do instead? Number one, focus on a content strategy that will keep potential clients around rather than relying on one guest. Number two, take it into your own hands. Be a guest on other shows. Flip the script. Now you're the source of authority somewhere else. You know it's getting promoted to their listeners. The spotlight is on you. If their listeners love you as a guest, they're far more likely to check out your show. And because you have a content strategy, they'll keep coming back and eventually inquire about your coaching.

4:41Terrible advice number three, create promotional clips to get exposure. The idea is leverage that one hour interview, get a million pieces of content, post on loads of channels, people find your podcast, you gain listeners and clients. But the principle remains the same. Just because you get exposure doesn't mean it translates to listeners, and it definitely doesn't mean it translates to client inquiries. If you've been creating promotional clips, what's your experience? Have they helped you attract coaching clients? They might get you views and impressions, but does that translate into qualified leads reaching out about your programs?

5:21What to do instead? Focus on the advice from earlier. Instead of relying on promotional clips, focus on finding online communities where ideal clients hang out. Provide value to those communities. Actively reach out to members and share specific episodes based on their interactions. Instead of focusing on posting and output, focus on engaging with potential clients. And finally, terrible advice number four. Just put your podcast on YouTube. The mentality is, if you do Zoom interviews, just put them on YouTube, because why not? It's another place to have it. You might as well. And I get it. Logically, that makes sense.

6:02You've recorded an episode. You've got video. YouTube has an algorithm that helps people discover content. So why not get more exposure by putting it on this platform? What's the issue? Remember, this is terrible advice for growing your podcast as a client attraction system. Here's why. When you're just reposting on YouTube, you're not optimized to get views. You're unlikely to have a thumbnail optimized for the platform, unlikely to have engaging visuals. Just reposting a Zoom interview is not engaging. Yes, it's video, but it's not very engaging video. We've never seen a YouTube channel that's just for continuation do well for the podcast.

6:42We have seen YouTube channels do well, but only when that's the priority. when they have a video-first approach. And the question might be, if it's not hurting anyone, why not? But it is hurting you. It's hurting your focus. Now you're thinking, how do I grow my YouTube channel too? How do I get the podcast to work better on YouTube? Is there a different keyword strategy? All that is noise and distraction away from attracting coaching clients. If you want to grow a YouTube channel and video podcast, great, go for it if that makes sense. But there's a trade-off. It's one or the other with total focus.

7:20You can't do both unless you've got a huge team. In this episode, we covered the four most common growth tips that actually sabotage your client attraction, why copying what big-name coaches do sets you up for failure, and finally, what to do instead to turn your podcast into a predictable client generation system. Thank you for listening all the way to the end. At the start of this episode, I said I'd tell you a little bit about me. So I'm about to share a secret with you. One that might mean you hate me. Completely quit listening to this podcast and think I'm a total scam. However, I want to be transparent.

8:02Are you ready? Well, my name is Tony. No, of course that's not the secret. The secret is that I'm actually a robot. My creators are Tig and Anthony, hence my name, Tony. The sick bastards.
