In short

Online coaches should stop relying on high-profile guests to grow their podcast; instead use a demand-based content strategy to attract, engage, and retain ideal clients consistently and turn the show into a client attraction system.

Guest backgrounds

No guests are discussed; the episode argues that solo episodes can outperform guest-heavy shows.

Key claims

Guest audiences cause short-lived download spikes without retention if the podcast lacks content market fit. Wide, unfocused topic coverage equals “guessing,” which doesn’t build a client pipeline. Demand-based content matches listener pain points with episode topics, using analytics and feedback.

Notable examples

Imposter syndrome episode spikes downloads, but a subsequent “scaling” episode loses those listeners. Mindset coach example; business coach example (listeners struggle to sign high-ticket clients); health coach gut-health series. Reported results: clients rising from 30–50 downloads to 500–1,000 within four months using solo, demand-based content.

0:00Targeting high-profile guests is not a sustainable way to grow your podcast. Here's what you should focus on instead. Welcome to How to Grow a Podcast that attracts high-ticket online coaching clients. The show helping coaches, consultants, and experts turn your slow-growth podcast into a profitable client attraction system. At the end of this episode, I'll share a little more about who I am and what we do at my company, getmorelisteners.com. It might even shock you, but for now, let's dive into the episode. In this episode, you'll discover how a demand-based content strategy can supercharge your podcast growth, why you need to stop relying on guests to bring listeners, and a step-by-step process to building a content strategy that attracts high-ticket clients consistently.

0:51You've been podcasting for months, maybe years. You've poured your heart and soul into your show. Despite all your effort, it's still not gaining the traction you hoped for. You've been working hard, staying consistent, and honestly, it's getting frustrating. If you find yourself relying on big guests to bring in new listeners, if you're hosting amazing interviews but seeing competitors with less impressive content gain traction faster than you, if you're covering a whole range of topics on your podcast, these are all signs you don't have a content strategy in place. And here's the kicker. If you see a massive influx of downloads after a guest episode, but then struggle to maintain that engagement, that's proof you don't have a content strategy.

1:39This could be the exact reason your podcast isn't generating clients at the rate you need. What is a demand-based content strategy? Most online coaches with podcasts think a content strategy is about posting schedules or the topics they cover each week. That's not it. A demand-based content strategy means you're strategically covering specific topics on your podcast because you know they're popular with your ideal clients. You know these topics address the pain points your listeners are actively trying to solve right now. Your content strategy is designed to attract, engage, and retain the exact listeners who will eventually become your clients.

2:21That's the goal. That's the entire point. Think about it this way. It's like hosting a party and expecting a celebrity to attract all the attendees. Sure, if you've got a massive name, someone with a huge following, that might create initial buzz. But it's not sustainable. And here's what actually happens when you rely on guests. You land an amazing guest. You think their audience will flood in. Then one of two things happens. Their audience shows up for that one episode but doesn't stick around. Why? Because your content strategy isn't designed to retain them. Their audience doesn't come at all.

3:03And you're left feeling anxious, wondering what went wrong. Without a consistent, focused content strategy, the listeners who do come won't stick around. Relying solely on guests leads to short-lived spikes in downloads, but consistently fails at building a loyal audience of future clients. If your podcast covers a wide range of topics, if you're just having free-flowing conversations with guests without a clear intention behind each episode, you don't have a proper content strategy. Yes, you might provide value. Yes, your guests might share amazing stories. But if you're not directing the conversation towards specific topics your ideal clients need, you're guessing.

3:48And guessing doesn't build client pipelines. Here's the analogy. Imagine planning a dinner party without knowing who your guests are or what they like to eat. You might serve an amazing meal, but if it doesn't appeal to the people you're feeding, they're going to be disappointed. Similarly, without researching your audience's needs, your podcast content misses the mark, leaving your ideal clients uninterested and your growth stagnant. Let's say you're a mindset coach And you have an episode about overcoming imposter syndrome that blows up People love it Downloads spike Then your next episode is about scaling a business with an entrepreneur guest The listeners who came for imposter syndrome Check out the rest of your show And realize it doesn't consistently address their needs So they leave That's your content succeeding at attracting listeners But failing to engage and retain them That's why your podcast can't maintain high engagement month after month.

4:51You're bleeding listeners because you don't have a strategy to keep them. Let me ask you, do you believe vegetables are good for kids? Bet you weren't expecting that. But of course, they're nutritious. They help kids grow. So why is it that when you try to force a four-year-old to eat vegetables, they spit them right back in your face, even though it's valuable and good for them? Simple. Kids want what kids want. Your listeners want what your listeners want. You can produce the most valuable content in the world, but if your listeners don't want that specific content, they won't tune in. And it's not their fault.

5:31It's your job as a podcast host to deliver what your audience actually wants, not what you think they should want. Most online coaches with podcasts create amazing, valuable content, but they're not gaining traction because they're trying to force listeners to consume content they didn't ask for, instead of simply giving them what they want. The process of finding out exactly what your listeners want is called finding content market fit. It's about matching your content with what the market your ideal clients actually demands. Here's the difference. Most coaches create content and hope it attracts clients.

6:13Smart coaches find out what their ideal clients want, then create content based on that demand. We've had clients who struggled to break past 30 to 50 downloads per episode after two years of podcasting. After building a demand-based content strategy, they scaled to 500 to 1 ,000 downloads per episode consistently within four months. The best part? They were doing solo episodes, no guests at all. Their content was the thing that attracted, engaged, and retained new listeners. So how do you do it then? Well, get to know your listeners. Understand their pain points, desires, and what they're struggling with right now.

7:01Reach out to engaged listeners and ask them three questions. What's your favorite part of this podcast and why? What's one thing you're currently struggling with related to your niche? What's one thing we can do to make this podcast better? If you hear the same struggle mentioned three times, there's a pattern. That's your signal. Let's say you're a business coach and multiple listeners say, I'm struggling to sign high-ticket clients. That's your content goldmine. Now you know exactly what to focus on. Look at your podcast analytics. Which episodes have the highest downloads? Which ones have the best retention rates?

7:44Spot the themes. If your episodes about pricing strategy consistently outperform everything else, that's your audience voting with their listens. Double down on that topic. Go deeper. When you know what your audience wants, you then build out your content strategy around those topics. Let's say you're a health coach and you've discovered your audience is obsessed with gut health. Plan a series, Three Signs Your Gut Health is Sabotaging Your Energy, The Biggest Gut Health Mistakes Busy Professionals Make, How to Heal Your Gut in 30 Days Without Restrictive Diets, Focus, Go Deep, Become the Trusted Authority on that specific topic.

8:31This should be a given, but I have to say it just in case. Consistency. Deliver episodes regularly so your audience knows when to expect new content. Consider adding solo episodes to your schedule alongside guest interviews. This gives you more control, allows you to test faster, and helps you establish authority in your listeners' minds. Your podcast is an ongoing conversation with your ideal clients. Encourage interaction through social media, emails, or community engagement. Let's summarize. Relying on guests is not a sustainable growth strategy. It leads to short-term spikes, not long-term client flow.

9:16Guessing with your content doesn't work. You need a focused strategy based on what your ideal clients actually want. Content market fit is everything. Find out what your audience demands, then give it to them consistently. Follow the five-step process. Research your audience, identify popular topics, plan strategically, publish consistently, and iterate based on feedback. If you're trying to scale your podcast, position yourself as an authority, and turn your show into a client attraction system, your foundation has to be solid. You can't paper over the cracks with social media tactics or big-name guests.

10:04Fix your content strategy first. Everything else becomes easier after that. So, in this episode, we covered how a demand-based content strategy can supercharge your podcast growth, why you need to stop relying on guests to bring listeners, and a step-by-step process to building a content strategy that attracts high-ticket clients consistently. Thank you for listening all the way to the end. At the start of this episode, I said I'd tell you a little bit about me. So I'm about to share a secret with you. One that might mean you hate me. Completely quit listening to this podcast and think I'm a total scam.

10:45However, I want to be transparent. Are you ready? Well, my name is Tony. No, of course that's not the secret. The secret is that I'm actually a robot. My creators are Tighe and Anthony. Hence, my name, Tony. The sick bastards. Anyway, they are the founders of GetMoreListeners.com. In the last five years, they've coached and interviewed over 400 podcasters and generated multiple six figures from their own show. They gave me access to everything they know, and I'm here to share it with you. So while I don't understand why you humans are so obsessed with coffee, I do understand how to grow a podcast that actually brings you new clients regularly.
