In short
The episode argues that Republicans/MAGA are fear-mongering and hypocritical about energy-saving guidance and “socialism/communism,” using NYC heat-wave thermostat advice as the example. Hosts discuss Zoran Mamdani’s popularity and claim NYC is “doing quite well” despite criticism.
Key claims
Nikki Haley and Spencer Pratt retweeted Mamdani’s “set AC to 78, conserve electricity” tweet while ignoring similar Trump-era/DOE recommendations; Democrats should stop being defined as “woke/socialist” and instead return to FDR-style economic priorities (higher taxes on the rich, material delivery like jobs and wages).
Notable examples
Trump’s past “conserve” messaging; DOE guidance on 75–78°F; references to FDR portrait posts during Trump’s “crush” on Mamdani; comparisons of Bush vs Trump.
Guests

There's going to be a mass exodus. New York is going to go to hell in a handbasket and people are going to move and all the money's going to go out of New York and it's going to be Sharia and the mother's going to take over. And they were right. You know what, Don, you and I live here and it is dark, woke MomDonna stan. It is. Give us dark, woke Sharia. We're in on it because everybody is untethered and liberated. But Zoran, there's record, record, record heat in New York this weekend.
0:41And so Zoran sent out the following tweet. New York, it's hot out there and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool. Set your AC to 78 degrees. Turn off lights, electronics you're not using and unplug what you can. Our city is doing its part to maintaining the 78 degree rule in our buildings, dimming, turning off our lights, blah, blah, blah. So this is a typical thing that politicians do because it can be over 100 degrees in New York. So to me, this is not controversial, but you know, they keep looking for some controversy was on enter Nikki Haley, pop this up. Nikki Haley retweets it with comment and says, welcome to socialism.
1:17And then the failed mayoral candidate, Spencer Pratt, who's dumber than a box of hot rocks, he tweets, show us your thermostat, commie. And then I think that prick Dave Portnoy, that prick that owns Barstool, he chimed in. This is the deal. Republicans and MAGA people are hysterical. They are hysterical people that freak out over the nothing burgers. I wanted to look it up, but have you have Kylie, one of your producers, look it up as we're doing this. Jen, do you remember when Donald Trump asked people to conserve on dolls and to conserve on buying gas because it was going to be a short-term pain for long-term gain, but there was one explicitly about conserving something and we called it austerity.
2:08Okay. And this, what, how is this different from Donald Trump proposing the same thing? I didn't see Nikki Haley's ass or Spencer Pratt's ass out here retweeting bullshit about welcome to communism when Donald Trump was doing it. They didn't say a word about it. And so now the hypocrisy is showing this is why Nikki Haley is not president, will never be president. First of all, she's a brown woman. She doesn't understand that. Not that I don't think a brown woman should be president or isn't qualified to be president. I do. I think qualified for all that and should be a president. I think we should have a woman president next.
2:41And that would fix a lot of the ills of this country. But she is so outdated in her thinking and her ideas and her thoughts. And she keeps kissing Donald Trump's ass when Donald Trump doesn't want her. Donald Trump said, I'm not hiring you. I'm not hiring anybody who worked for Nikki Haley. Do you remember that? If you worked or served or did anything for Nikki Haley, I don't want you to be part of this administration. Stop kissing his ass, Nikki Haley. He doesn't want you. And stop talking about socialism and communism. Because guess what? New York City is doing quite well now. Whether you like Zora and Mamdani or not, he is doing quite well now.
3:14Do we, you know, is the city perfect? No, but my God, there is no other place on earth that I would rather live right now because New York is just fine. And we're in the middle of a heat wave. Why not tell people to conserve energy? Well, it's interesting when Nikki Haley was governor, she tweeted in 2015, she tweeted this shit. Attention all South Carolina residents, please make a special effort to conserve energy by turning off non-essential lighting, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. They all do this. But even the own Trump administration popped this up. This is from a government website here.
3:50The Department of Energy recommends finding a comfortable indoor temperature during the day and increasing it by seven degrees when no one is home. Start with an indoor temperature between 75 to 78 during the day. This is from the Trump administration. It drives me crazy. It drives me crazy. Yeah. And I think the point about all of this is, Don, is that this is all the Republicans have, is fear-mongering and scaring you. The scary Muslims, Zoran Mamdani, who I believe Trump is in love with, that's just an aside. We'll pick that up and put that over here. No, no, no, no, no. He loves Zoran Mamdani.
4:27Did you see how he was looking at him like this? Yeah. And then when the reporter goes, do you still think Trump is a fascist? And Zoran's like, oh shit he goes it's okay go ahead it's okay it's okay baby and he's throwing his hand up like that at him he was just smitten af but here's the thing nikki haley and all of these other dipshit trumpers they cannot deliver for americans materially the last time we had a far left president the most far left president we ever had was franklin delano roosevelt and he was so popular Go back and look at all the electoral college maps, Don. They're blue. He served all of these terms.
5:08The Republicans have been spiraling ever since. Tax rates were very high for the richest of the rich, and America was booming because people like it when their government works. Nikki Haley knows that. Little Moses Mike Grinder knows that. And they know that their policies don't work. But what they can do is take a white population, a white electorate, and scare them and talk about socialism or black people or muslim people or women and the thing about nikki haley being a brown woman is when you're running in the republican party they're sexist and racist that's why she can't get elected on that side and so this is all they have is culture war stuff because in my lifetime every republican president starts a war adds to the deficit bankrupts the economy and this is no different except for all of these horrific interior design projects and he's just a lot more impolite, but there's really not that big of a difference between George W.
6:06Bush and Donald Trump, except for how impolite Donald Trump is. Yeah. How impolite Donald Trump is. And look, George Bush, it was, he was about being a compassionate conservative. George Bush, which was bullshit. Right. And as much as George, as bad as George Bush was around the war, at least he was not as awful as Donald Trump. This is what I will give him around immigration. Ronald Reagan, which is their sort of gold standard of presidents, he believed in open borders, pretty much. Ronald Reagan thought that, obviously he had, well, Ronald Reagan didn't, but George Bush had Latino grandchildren, right?
6:50You know George P. Bush? Yes. Latino, right? is his daughter-in-law, Latino. He's kind of hot. Yes, but he is. He's pretty hot, yeah. Yeah, until you look into his policies and then, you know, it shrivels up. Not even Viagra would work. But I don't care how good looking you are. If you don't believe in certain things, it won't happen. I'm sorry. Even the eye candy doesn't work. Do you think the Democratic Party is having a Tea Party moment? and that's why all these republicans are jumping on trying to browbeat zoran who is the most popular democrat in the country right now with soaring high approval ratings i do look as much as i as highly as i think of zora mamdani i really do think that he it was all about timing for him because jen how long have i been saying this before before zora mamdani was even on the map i was telling you that the energy on the democratic side was on the progressive side and that democrats needed to figure that out.
7:49And people like AOC needed to have leadership positions in the Democratic Party. And they needed people like Nancy Pelosi, as much as we respect what she got done with health care and all that, they needed to make room for younger, more progressive voices in the party. And they needed to stop squelching them and pushing them down. And then Zora Mamdani stepped into that moment and now he's leading it. So you have to give it to him. But I believe that this started in the ether out in the world before Zora Mandani and he read the tea leads. So if Democrats really want to win and if you think that they're in the middle of a tea party moment, perhaps, but I think they're in a moment now of reckoning where they need to realize like, hey, this centrist ain't going to work.
8:32This kumbaya ain't going to work. Working with the Republicans, that's not going to happen. Being Republican light is not going to happen. Being afraid of people calling you woke, no one gives a about that anymore. Being afraid of trans people and standing up for for people for the underserved and the most vulnerable in society if you think that that's bad then you then you need to get out of the party you need to get out of the way and let the people who want to lead and the people who want to do good for people step in the way and make it work like zohar mamdani is doing it in new york city and let's talk about the democratic party right now i think they need to message exactly what you've messaged on this show before that it is not radical to not want your politicians to be bought off by oligarchs.
9:18It is not radical to want people to earn a livable wage. Bernie Sanders, you know, they've tried to brand him as this crazy radical socialist forever. And Bernie paved the way in a lot of ways. He ran for president, but he paved the way for Zoran because he injected into the electorate an antidote for all of this grotesque republicanism where the rich get richer. And Bernie's antidote is empower the worker. There's more people there. They need the help more. That's how we build a community. And I think the Democrats need to return back when they're fighting within the party, when they're fighting the Magalite sect of the of the Democratic Party.
9:56I think the antidote for them to fight back is we are not taking the party to the left. You've taken it to the right. We're going back to FDR. We're going back to a time where rich people pay their fair share in taxes. We're going back in time where we deliver materially for the people. You don't like trans people, good. You want to ban them in sports, you want to ban all 14 of them, fine. How is that going to put food on your table? How is that going to help your grandmother that has cancer or needs? None of that shit works. None of that shit delivers anything. But what FDR did, did deliver. And you might remember that moment during Trump's crush on Zoran, that Trump took on his phone a picture of Zoran in front of FDR, the portrait.
10:37And then, and then remember about a week later, Trump's like, I guess he's sundowning. And then he just started posting pictures of Zoran with the FDR painting. And it was like a week after he had been there. It tells you where his mind had been, but that's the key. And I think the Democrats have to go.
10:56He's going through his camera rolled on. He's sitting there going through it. It was like, it was like seven to nine days later. Where was his hand as he was doing those booths? There it is.
11:09he's so dark and bearded and handsome he's you know trump would be like that's the antidote is to tell the democrat we are not radical if you think fdr was radical the most successful democratic president ever just go join maga but can i tell you this as a as a reformed cable news anchor that was in the system for nearly two decades and uh well actually longer two decades Democrats allow themselves to be defined by their critics. And Republicans don't. Republicans don't let Democrats define them. Republicans define them themselves. Democrats are so concerned about being called a leftist or progressive or a socialist or whatever.
11:56If I were running for office, I wouldn't give a shit. I would say, call it what you want. I don't care if you call it socialist. I don't care if you call it fuck-chillist. I don't give a fuck what you call it. This is what I'm going to do for my constituents and what I'm going to do for the people of America. I want them to have a livable wage. I want them to have affordable health care. I want them to be able to take care of their families. I want them to be able to go to the grocery store and buy healthy food. I don't want them to live in food deserts. I don't want them to have to decide between a politician who has maybe a lot of money or a whole lot of money or is a billionaire because there's so much money in politics.
12:32So I think Democrats need to do that. And if a Democrat wants to win, what they will say is we need to get the court in order. We need to expand the court. We need to expand the court to at least 13 justices. We need to get rid of the electoral college. If a Democrat wants to win in 2026 and 2028, that's how they would talk. Those are the policies that they would have, not some policies about, hey, you know what, we're going to, maybe we should get Liz Cheney on or whatever. Okay, great list change i'm glad that she's a reform republican but that's not what that's not what people want right now they want someone who's going to have some fucking balls who's going to stand up and who's going to correct this and so yes um yes i agree with you 100 jen and that's what a democrat should do if they want to win get out of the way if you don't want if you don't want this get out of the way and go do something else i completely agree with you don lemon and you know what we're all going to do we're going to get out of your way so you can go join enjoy your vacation with your lovely husband, Tim, and your friends.
