In short

The episode is a mix of comedy and conversation with Italian Batch (Italian “Batch”) covering his rise as a TikTok/YouTube creator, his astrophysics degree, and his “rose toy” obsession, plus quickfire personal questions and a “best packed lunch” game.

Key claims

Batch graduated in planetary science and astronomy (math-heavy modules like quantum physics and astrophysics). He says most UFO sightings are fake, arguing interstellar travel would take too long even at light speed and advanced craft wouldn’t be detectable. He explains that in most star systems gas giants tend to orbit closer to their stars, unlike our solar system where gas giants are farther out. He also discusses the Goldilocks zone for liquid water and that stars form when a planet gains enough mass to ignite burning.

Notable examples

He mentions exoplanets are often named by star plus letters (e.g., “b,” “c”). He references Mars One (one-way Mars mission) and Red Bull’s Felix Baumgartner jump.

Guests

Italian Batch is the sole guest. Backgrounds: He’s an Italian creator from Crawley, UK, with ~2.8M TikTok followers and ~270M likes, nearly 1M YouTube subscribers, and he’s also writing a sitcom and wants to act.

0:34I didn't know too much about Batch before he'd come on. I've seen his TikToks come up and I'd had a little chuckle, but I thought, let's get him in. He must have a story. Boy, does he have a story. What about the bloody planets and shit, Stevie? He's a very smart guy as well. He is. Fiona just said to us after recording, he's multifaceted, and I think that sums him up perfectly. sometimes and not for a long time but we've had sort of content creators in and although they're very good at what they do they've always just been youtubers so there's not really been too much to it this is super different Batch is super young but he's already done so much he's graduated in astrophysics so he tells us all about the stars and planets and black holes he's uh writing a sitcom he's uh wants to go into acting and because of that I actually pre-wrote a script that you hadn't seen you know what it's like listeners we've done these scripts before but this time we put stevie and batch in the scene and they have to show their acting expertise and neither of them i'm going to tell you now neither of them disappoint it was very good i think i love him i think i love him more and i think me and him had a connection so you can say that you love him but really when you think about it what's love he's going to be a star very very good just like the stars and shit that he graduated in you're gonna really like this one guys it's a proper fun one and if i could invest in people i know this guy's gonna go far i'd invest in italian batch enjoy it

4:10Something like, how many likes? 270 million likes. Almost a million YouTube subscribers. It's Italian batch. Thank you very much. That was quite the intro. Yeah, we're good at that. I'm blushing, yeah. Yeah, you're good. Look at you, though. You are a sexy, sexy man. Look at you. Thank you. You've got the mullet going on. Yeah, little mullet. You've got the tash. Yeah, the mullet balances out the nose, though. That's the reason for that. Because it takes away from that length. I think if I had no mullet now, I'd be finished. You've had a mullet a while, haven't you? Yeah, I have. Probably three years or something now.

4:41Early in the trend then. Yeah, it was just after COVID. I've got no real concept of time anymore. I saw, I don't know who it was, it might have been burnt chip. I saw an Instagram post the other day and he posted a photo and it was like four of them all in the same photo and everyone had the exact same hair. Yeah. Right. And I was thinking, because I desperately needed a haircut and mullets are the thing that's in us. I just can't bring myself to do it. Who would look better with a mullet, me or Stevie? You can be honest. let's go can I see side profiles just so I've got more hair at the back at the moment to be able to pull it off you know what I think Jack you'd look like a proper Australian with a mullet would I yeah so I think it would work oh okay a mullet would work on yourself as well it would but I can see it's like you should have one but you don't really that's what it looks like yeah you're gonna do it now aren't you yeah shall I do it you tried the moustache at one point I did not stop saying this right you came in and said you wanted to look like the guy from Top Gun which oh rooster don't know I don't know but he's fucking hot I know who you're talking about he is hot well so we were about to go to Reading one year weren't we yeah and I went to shave and I've done it here you can see I've like I've missed I can't really shave and I went a bit too deep and cut a bit out so I thought right let's even this up and then you know what it's like you fuck it up so I was like oh I'll just have the tash yeah but Top Gun had just come out and I walked and I know that Fiona my partner she really fancies that what's his name Fee?

6:08Her husband Miles Teller Miles Teller that's what she really fancies him so when I went through to the bedroom she went what the fuck I'll show you but you kept it on the podcast I had no choice shave it off no one's going well I've got to stay now you could have just not had any hair for a bit so yeah you'd rather have it than no hair there yeah you did have a choice I know but it didn't look good did it and we were doing a pod with not not your because we've got robbie knocks on a podcast and he he always has a mustache and it's always been his thing and i couldn't imagine him without one but i've never seen you with one so it wasn't right yeah right it's it right yeah right i'm gonna show you this batch and you can be brutally brutally honest he's been nice to you so far about the mullet so this is yeah i want to see right so so look that's the proof that i shaved the okay yeah yeah there was a mistake was made yeah yeah and then this is is it bad is it bad is that bad yeah it's a bit bad it's not great I think it's great oh it looks better when you're smiling though does it yeah that's because the teeth are distracting from do I look like Miles Teller at all not at all no thank you mate no so don't bring the moustache back but a mullet could work yeah a mullet could work yeah okay cool now Batch we always start with the same question to every single guest we want you to imagine the Happy Hour Hall of Fame A magical place where things live forever.

7:36What would you like to put in it? I will say now it can be a person, a place, a feeling, a thing. It can be absolutely anything. I was debating what to chuck in this. And I think I'm going to go with Leona Lewis. Just the person? I did not. Why? Because otherwise she's not going to end up in there unless I say it. And I feel like she deserves a spot. She's weirdly one of the first ever celebrities you interviewed, isn't she? Yeah, yeah. That is the weirdest person to say. What's she like in real life? She's really sweet. She's really sweet. Deserves to be there. I don't know. I've got a weird, like, it's kind of one-sided, but she's involved in my content a bit.

8:16Right. Okay. So I will say now, I like your content, right? I've seen, I've not seen them all, right? I put you on my Instagram story yesterday and asked for questions for you. And there were two themes that kept coming up. Oh yeah. One was her. Oh, so she was, okay. She didn't know. She didn't message. No, no. Oh, of course it was. No, yes. And the other one, it was... Was it a rose toy? Yeah. Yeah, I thought so. I was debating whether to put a rose toy in the Hall of Fame or Leona Lewis. Is a rose toy a sex toy? Yeah, it's like a little rose that sucks, basically. It's not for guys. Oh. No, it's just a little...

8:53Have you not seen one before? No. And what... New World. What was it? Why is this your... I don't know, really. Do you know the sort of thing that just comes up and then it's like, that's it now? What are you doing with it? I don't have one. I don't have one. It's just... How is it associated with you then? I think I just referenced it in a video once and then people hung on to it. Right. And now if I don't mention it within 60 seconds of a video, people are like, oh, he's gone off. He's gone off. He's gone normal. Yeah. He's gone normal. What's going on? Yeah. So people are worried that you've gone normal, but you've put Leona Lewis into the Hall of Fame.

9:26Yeah. So I think that's safe. I think that's safe. Yeah. Okay. Do you like her music? Do you like her? I only really know Bleeding in Love. And I don't really know what she's like as a person. I don't even think it's called that, is it? Just Bleeding in Love, isn't it? Is it? It's just Bleeding in Love. I'm a huge fan. I think she's massive in America now, isn't she? But I don't see anything of her over here these days. I don't know. You said she was one of the first people I ever interviewed. And it was at the Sony Studios or something like that. And I think it was to promote X Factor or some shit.

9:55And I'd written my questions on the sheet. and then her agent came in, asked to see the questions about a minute before and crossed eight of them out. Oh no. Yeah. How many did you have? Ten. Just number two. Just hi, how are you? That's it. And then just anything else to add. That was it. Okay, Leona Lewis is in the Hall of Fame. Now let's do some quick fire questions to get to know Batch, Stevie. What's the weirdest app on your phone? Oh, I don't know. You can have a look. Can I have a look? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's have a little screen. Oh, wait, hang on. My phone's over here. Oh, okay. Maybe like a...

10:32Can you get a remote control? I don't think you can get a remote control vibrator. Not that I've looked, but I don't think you can. What's your screen time like as a contact creator? I turned it off. Well, I did this. I got asked this yesterday. I turned my screen time off when I first started TikTok. Right. Because it was horrendous. It was like 12 hours a day. Yeah. But it was all like work-related kind of. Yeah. So I just turned it off so I couldn't see it. My phone meant I've got a screenshot of this somewhere. I won't get that up. But my phone went mental because I've got a new one today, right?

11:00Oh, well done. Just on AppleCare, not like a new model. And it said I had 100, my daily average was 133 hours. You've smashed it. I know. 133 hours. Yeah, but daily average had clearly gone wrong. Yeah, that's got to be right somehow. I don't know how you've managed it, but I don't really have that. I don't have weird apps on my phone, actually. I recently deleted it, but you know the lie detector test apps? Yeah. I'll just whip that out every now and then, even though they're not accurate. Right. How does that work then? Is it just going off tone and voice or is it just a gimmick? Gimmick. Gimmick.

11:40It just picks whichever one it wants to say. Fair enough. Fair enough. What's the weirdish niche content that you like to consume online? Oh, that's a good question. some people say like the spot popping shit that's gross but I do like watching it a little bit depending on the spot yeah I like I don't want too big just a little just yeah I don't know if you can see I've got a bruise on my nose there can you see oh yeah I was trying to get some blackheads oh you would try a bit aggressive bruising your own nose doing it I like you know the guys cooking outdoors with the massive knives, you know that by a river and they're dipping stuff in the river and then they're chopping it up.

12:23Is this like the go outdoors guy or not? Do you know? Oh, the guy who's just stopped. Yeah. Outdoor boys. That's the one. Yeah. Yeah. Love that. Yeah. But it's specifically just cooking. I think it's like Siberian guys in the wilderness just cooking. Oh, right. On like open fire. Just fish and shit like that? Yeah, just fish. Okay. Just shit and fish. No, they cook everything, anything. Imagine a well where Leona Lewis is cooking. That would just be my dream. That's your version of the rose toy. Yeah, just cooking a rose toy. Imagine that. What's the most expensive thing you own? What is the most...

12:59Very intrusive question, this, isn't it? Oh, most expensive thing that I own. I don't really own that many expensive things, to be honest. Car? Yeah? What do you drive? Well, I gave it to my little sister, so it's technically not mine anymore. Oh, okay. It was a Polo. Nice. VW Polo. Do you not drive it all now? So technically that's not mine. No, because in London, I just wouldn't. I just line bike. So I think most expensive now is probably just a desk. It's a boring desk. Not the PC on the desk. No, I haven't even got a PC. Well, actually, yeah, no, I've got a MacBook, so that. Yeah. Probably more expensive than the desk.

13:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like your brain went for the desk that you're mapped on. Yeah. I was just thinking size, you know. What's your earliest memory? Oh, um, oh, this I've had arguments with my family about this. So when, when we were younger, I had three sisters and every now and then someone would bite someone just out, just lash out. Yeah. And my mom would do this test with like tissue paper and sugar and like hunt, not honey, lemon juice. And she'd put it on your arm like that. Cause you, you'd say, oh, she bit me. She'd be like, no, I didn't bite him. And then mom would do this test and, and on that, on the arm where the bite was.

14:15And she'd be like, yep, you did bite. you did bite him. And I brought this up to them, like, not long ago. And they were like, no, that never happened. But I'm so sure. What does your mum say? She's like, ah, it could be true. I thought she would remember. She's like, it could be true. The more I'm adamant about it, though, the more she's, like, coming around to the idea that that happened. I'm so sure. But why was your mum not a kid? This isn't an early memory for her. I know. I don't know. For me, that really stuck out, because I was like, oh my god, I'm undergoing the test right now. So what's the test doing?

14:45nothing is fake just to just to reveal like it's like one of those tricks you do on your kid and you're like no you did bite and then they can't defend themselves your your mom was like the original fake lie detector yeah she was it's like when you go on a school trip and i remember i felt sick because i was on the bus i was that kid i was always ill and then the teacher would do you remember this the teacher pretends to do some string around your finger never had that you never had that no what are you going on about it sounds like you were a sickly child yeah yeah Well, apparently, I was on the bus.

15:16This happened at least twice. And then the teacher goes, right, come here. We'll put this string around your finger. It's an invisible string. And that's meant to stop you feeling sick. Did it work? No, it's clearly just one of those ways that we con children in this country. Did it? Con children in this country. Starman Britain. It's like when, you know, the one where your parents say, if the ice cream truck's playing music, that means they've run out of ice cream. I never got that. See, you got the ice cream, didn't you? I got the ice cream, yeah. I chased that thing down. Fucking jealous. Jealous.

15:51Okay, last one before we get to the ball machine. If you were trapped on a desert island and you could choose any three celebrities to be there with you, who are you picking and why is one of them Leona Lewis? Yeah, number one, Leona Lewis. Just morale for morale. Number two, Brian Cox. Oh, nice. You'd never get bored. Just listen to him talk, yeah. Number three. Interesting. Who would I have?

16:23They've got to get on, because this third person's got to get on with Brian Cox and Leona Lewis. Yeah, that's true. I kind of want them to be useful. Right. Maybe... Chef? No, but then... Maybe Bear Grylls. Yeah, he's the most useful person, surely. Yeah, but does he do all the stuff he says he... Why are you drinking pierced bear? He'd just be drinking everyone's pierced bear. He wouldn't be any. None left for anyone else. Yeah, bear, stop it. It's just selfish now. I like that you keep looking down like he's just taking a straight from. Oh, he's just taking a straight from. Don't even need a pierced bear.

16:59Maybe I wouldn't take bear girls, actually. No, I'll take him. I'll take him. I'll take him. What about the fella from Outdoor Boys? I could take him. He'd be... It's like he's better in the snow, though. What about one of your Siberians? I could,

17:18yeah. Imagine you just turned up to that. Sorry, I'll just put 20 Siberians. I think the language barrier would be really difficult. Oh, yeah. Right, okay, you're going for Leona Lewis. Brian Cox. Brian Cox. Bear Grylls. Bear Grylls. What a three. Okay, Batch, behind us we have a ball machine. Never fucking works, but we have selected one at random. These are all questions from previous guests. At the end, we're going to ask you to submit one. Let's have a little look. We have no idea what's in these. We recently had your friend Arthur Hill on. Maybe it's his. I don't know if his has come out yet, actually.

17:49I don't think so. It should say at the end who it's from. Jesus Christ. Who's it from? Matt FRC. Oh, Matt Food Review Club. A food review. Only two weeks ago, yeah. That makes sense. So the question is, what's the best packed lunch? One sandwich, one crisp, one dessert, one side, PSB specific. Oh, okay. This could be a pod in itself. Alright, best sandwich. You're not a sandwich person? I love sandwiches. Oh, Owen. That was such a you term. I was like, we've offended him with a sandwich. I absolutely love sandwiches. Thank you. I'm going to go with... There's always the threat of just coming across disgusting by picking like egg or tuna.

18:34Do you like egg or tuna? Oh, he's testing the water. I'll just work it out before he's done. He's testing the water a little bit. Yes, go on, that's okay. Egg and cress. I love it. I like egg and cress. Yeah, but you are you. Yeah, I am me. You are you. Yeah, I'll go egg and cress. Okay. Okay. What kind of bread are we talking? Are we talking like a normal sandwich or a baguette or? I'm thinking just straight from like Tesco or something. Oh, okay. Just, yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm picturing right now. Yeah. Crisp wise. You know, the, is it?

19:07That was my phone. Is it... I was getting a bono just from thinking about it. I flicked it off. I thought Bear Grylls was down there. It's getting to work. Damn best. Seriously. Not now. I'm trying to think of the hot and spicy knickknacks. Oh, good. Nice. What do you think of that? Good, good. I like that a lot. Purple bag, aren't they? No. That's ribs and saucy. That's ribs and saucy. Come on. Orange. Orange. Ah, I've literally got some in my cupboard at home. How weird is that? They were on sale. Come on. sorry i didn't get a brand new phone i got it on apple care nicknacks on sale so relatable are you struggling we've just released our membership website i don't want people to think i'm minted mate your phone was in three pieces last time i saw it i'm glad you've sorted it okay and then what dessert are you going for uh dessert tiramisu maybe okay yeah tiramisu a bit It's random, though, that this would be a packed lunch and you put dessert in there.

20:05But fine. It's a bit bougie for a packed lunch. Yeah. Side, a bit of cheese, maybe. Yeah. Cheese string. Okay. Dare I say. Do they, because I only had them when I was a kid, do they still do the cheese strings with the bacon bits in? Do you remember them? What? I never knew they were a thing. Wow. That is not a thing. You were too busy fucking lathering honey on your arm, mate. Should have got out there. Undergoing tests. They just add bacon bits in it. Yeah. That sounds awful. I think so. No, does it? Yeah. Yeah, that doesn't sound like it lasts long. Yeah. The saltiness of the cheese mixed with the saltiness of bacon.

20:36Very salt. I'm salty. I love that. Not complimentary. Just the salt. Yeah, salt. True. And then drink to finish. Drink, Orangina. I like Orangina. Oh, banging. Yeah. Banging. Okay, so this is where we should rate it, right? Yeah. We used to do this. I've never had a meal deal. I've never had... Egg and Cress, I think, is a bit weak. I like Egg and Cress. Yeah, you're going to stink forever, though, if you have that. You call me stinky at the start of the episode. I'm okay with that. True. Knickknack's good. Drink good. Side, not cheese, man. Six out of ten. Tiramisu. You forgot the tiramisu. Oh, 6.3 out of ten.

21:11Oh, okay. I've never had a tiramisu. Is that the coffee? Yeah. You'd love it. I don't know. You would love it. You've only just met him, but you would love it. I'm not against the idea of trying a tiramisu. I'd give it a... I like the egg and cress. I like the crisps. Yeah. I like it all. Okay, this has got to be a high score then. This is how this works. I'll give it an 8.2. 8.2? Wow. That is high. I cannot believe an egg and cress has got an 8.2. I like an egg and cress. Fair enough. Batch, you're from Crawley, right? I am from Crawley, yeah. Thank God for that. I was telling you just before we came on, I like to do a lot of research, but sometimes I do get the guest's place wrong.

21:49Yeah. The most basic part of the research. Sometimes I don't even know the name. And I was calling you Arthur for about an hour before I met you today. What's the best thing about Crawley? Well, I moved away from Crawley when I was 11, but at the time there was a blockbuster was the best thing there. Oh. It was so good. Quality. Yeah, just go in, get a film. Do you remember the witch ice cream sandwiches? No. They were so good. They were just in the freezer at the back. It was just an ice cream sandwich. Instead of getting popcorn, I would just get that. What, like vanilla ice cream? Yeah. We probably mixed out on it because we're six years older than you, seven years older than you.

22:24The music was playing, so they were out, sold out. That was the rule. Oh, the ice cream thing. I was so confused what was going on. That's what they told him. In Blockbuster. I couldn't let that go on any longer. If you mention ice cream, he starts to fit. He salivates. I got excited. Oh, I've got it here. Oh, they're Ben and Jerry's. No? No. No, like sand. They look way too new. They were... Is it like a sandwich ice cream? Yeah. Not the biscuit was purple. The packaging was purple. It was called Witch. Witch or something. Right. I think it was Witch. Okay. I love the blockbusters. Yeah, I used to love blockbuster.

23:00There'll be loads of people listening to this who have no idea what a blockbuster is. I used to, I loved Xbox when I was younger, but I loved getting all the achievements. So I'd go and rent a game, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, take it home, get all the achievements, give it back. That's smart. And they'd play it again. That's smart. Saved a lot of money that way as well. Yeah, fair enough. Saved a pair of money. But there was blockbuster loads of places. Yeah, yeah. So why was the one in Crawley very good? Just went there a lot, to be honest. There wasn't, I didn't have much going on in Crawley.

23:32Like I'd go to the, I'd go to the town center to shop every now and then with my parents. Other than that, actually the Bower. What's that? It's just a big, it's a long hill that goes down to a stream and it goes off in different directions. I think you get to the train station through the Bower. It's just like, it goes into the woods. Terrible place to be. A lot of crimes happen there. but at the very bottom there's a stream I used to go down with a bucket and my friend and we would crayfish which just yeah crayfish under the rocks and we'd bring them back have a look at them take them all the way back to the stream again but I like the bower that actually sounds sick to be fair that does sound nice could you go sledding down it I don't think so it was it's quite long right and quite steep and I don't think you'd get snowfall because the trees covered it so I don't think the conditions would be right.

24:25But you could bike up and down it. It was hard to get to the top on a bike. It does sound good. Is that why you're in good shape? Just going up the barrel all the time? I'd get a quid if I could get to the top without stopping. By the Bauer Goblin? No, my dad. Also known as the Bauer Goblin, actually. He'd just be stood there with money. Come on, kids. What's he doing? He's making you go to the bottom and go, if you get back up, I'll give you a quid. No, we would already be at the bottom. He wouldn't just be like, right, you know what time it is. Sounds like he's got a new free-up. Get out of the barrel and up again.

24:52no we'd be at the bottom we would be on a bike because the it leads down to a path in the woods that goes like just i can't remember where it even leads to right but just different places and so if we were coming back via the bower and we'd get to the bottom of the hill yeah he'd be like well if you get to the top you can have a quid without stopping on your bike oh wow is he into his fitness um yeah he likes the gym yeah oh nice yeah nice i could not imagine my dad has ever a step foot in a gym. Really? No. That's why I probably look like this. Have you ever been to Mocha nightclub? Mocha nightclub?

25:25No, no. Because I moved out when I was 12. Oh, fair. So they wouldn't let me in, I don't think. Not with all the honey on your arm. I go to... I'm not going to let you be up. Yeah, I know. Just sticky arm. You're not coming in. I go to Crawley once a year. It's like an annual thing. What for? Why? You poor thing. at the same time every year because they have a scare park there. Oh, Tully's Farm. Tully's Farm. Yeah, Tully's Farm's brilliant. It is good, isn't it? Oh, that's probably better than the Bauer. Nah, well, maybe, but the Bauer. You've never been to the Bauer. No, but the Bauer sounds like that.

26:05You go to Tully's Farm every year. No, don't disrespect the Bauer. You go to Tully's Farm every year. You've never once gone for the Bauer. No, but I like the Bauer answer. Yeah. Yeah, because in my head, I've pictured it as like a Lord of the Rings-y type place. Yeah, it does sound nice. Tully's Farm's like a horror thing, isn't it? Yeah. Have you been? Yeah. Yeah, but when I would go, it wasn't like a popular thing. Now you get like, it's like PR's going on, there's like a red carpet and people getting photos. Joey Essex will be there. Yeah, exactly. Whereas now, before it was just, it wasn't nearly as big, it was just a farm.

26:37Oh, really? You'd go to it. And it's just grown massive. Yeah. Fee loves it. We go every year. We've never, I've never been. Do you want to go this year? I don't know if I'd be scared oh you should do it every year like it's probably for maybe teenagers I don't know if I'd be scared but we really like it and we take we usually go with different friends so we've never been with you no okay I'll come that's such a funny sentence to say we usually go with different people not you but we'll give you a chance this year I've got the call up yeah okay yeah I'll take I'll take the Tullys farm call up.

27:15Just do it, yeah. Are you someone who gets scared at stuff like that, or? Yeah, as a kid, I was terrified of it. Now, no, I'd be fine now, I think. Yeah, same. Yeah, I'd be sure. But no, I'd still be a bit scared. I'm more scared if one of the actors goes rogue. That's what scares me. What, do you mean if they went rogue and like they recognise you and just say your name? No, as in like they just decide, I've got a place to murder someone, isn't it? I've actually got a chainsaw. I'm just going to kill someone. That's what scares me. they might as well that is yeah because you could easily anyone could and the thing you could just apply for that job if you're not if you want to kill someone you could just apply for that job knowing full well you've got a good opportunity on the night that's such a good yeah but one you could probably say it was an accident that's true why have you got a real chainsaw they have real chainsaws you can smell the petrol yeah I don't know if they've got the chain on but something yeah oh they don't have the chain on yeah right They could swap it out before the show.

28:13And also, not that true crime is cool, but you know when there's a new one happen? Yeah. So most serial killers do the same shit, don't they? Do you know what I'm getting at here? No. Right. So you see in the news, oh, this guy killed people down a lover's lane. Boring. Been done. But when there's a new one. when there's a new method. When they had like the grinder killer, it was like easily brandable. Like that's the new one. So this new one, like the Scare Park Killer. Yeah. You could imagine that on a true crime podcast. I've always thought that like the scare houses and ghost trains and stuff like that.

28:54They're the perfect place for someone to just go in and just do something. So that puts me off. It's not the fake element of it. It's the fact that that little potential. There's always a chance. Well, I'll take you both to Tully's this year. You've got to call up. Get in. I'm going to take one and he's got this all over. He's been waiting for years. Years. I quite like him though. Great. Now I went on to Famous Birthdays. Okay, yeah. To search up famous people in Crawley. Do you know where you rank? Grey roots entering the chat? Uninvited? Or is it? You're saying you think they're going to Ramesh or something. No, but I've seen it before. I've seen the list. Oh, no, there's also like a 13-year-old or something, like YouTuber. There is, yeah. That's on the list.

31:11There is. And that 13-year-old YouTuber's number two. You're number one. Oh, they put me up. They put me up. Ramesh is seven. Ramesh is seven. Yeah. How's that happen? Gareth Southgate didn't quite make the cut. No, he didn't even make the cut. That's mad. It's so good, isn't it? It's so good. That's brilliant. What were you like at school? Pretty similar to how I am now, to be honest. Naughty or not? No, not really. Did you ever get in trouble for anything? Yeah, just from like having fun with friends sort of thing. That's a weird thing. I had so many friends, I was having fun with them. You get in trouble, laughing.

31:48Trying to sound normal. It sounded really bitter towards the teachers as well. They got in trouble for having fun with friends. Having fun, that's not allowed now, is it? No, if I sat next to a friend, I would talk a lot. Maybe that is the only thing I'd get in trouble for. We ask this to a lot of guests. You get to know a lot about people. Is that the naughtiest thing you ever did at school? The one thing that I got really in trouble for was, which I still think is fine, that I had this paracetamol crushed up and I put it in a bag. At what year? I think year 11. I crushed it up, I put it in a bag and there was this black box in school, which is where people just serve chips out of.

32:29and I was around there and I tried to sell it as cocaine as a joke to a kid and he was like, oh no, I'll give you a tenner. I was like, I'm not taking money but I'll have your chips. And he was going to give me the chips and I was joking, it's not real. This is just paracetamol. Put it in my pocket. That was it. I was just having a laugh. And I got in bad trouble. I was pulled out of a lesson and they were like, did you try and sell drugs to a year seven? And I was like, no, that wasn't real. I said it wasn't real and they were like, yeah, but can you see from the outside? we have no idea if that was real or not.

33:00Did he snitch on you? He snitched, yeah. Because he didn't get them. I think it was because he didn't get them. Because if I'd accepted those chips, he would have taken it. Wow. That would have been a great deal for him. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And so I think he was bitter about it. We've never had someone openly admit to a drug dealer on the pod before. Apart from Sean Alvarez, the massive exorcist dealer in the 80s. You and him on a level path. Almost. I've told this story on the pod before, but I got banned. I used to every week, I used to go to a nightclub in Norwich called The Waterfront with Stevie.

33:30And I got banned from there on Halloween, a lifetime ban, because I was dressed as Walter White from Breaking Bad. And I had a bag of novelty popping candy. Right. You know, the blue crystal meth that they do in the show. And I was going around just giving people popping candy. Right. And they took me into the back room and said I was giving people crystal meth. And I was like, I always say if I was dealing crystal meth, I wouldn't dress up as the most recognizable crystal meth dealer in the world. A great double bluff though. It's like the scare part. It is a great double bluff. So I got banned.

34:01And you got banned for that? Did they not just try it and realise it? I still have it. Put it in your mouth. They were all about nuts. Yeah, they were trying to give me some chips. It was a great deal. Now, something I just learned about you, I saw a podcast clip come up and you studied astrophysics. Yeah. I got a degree in planetary science and astronomy. What does that mean? Just planetary science and astronomy. Just space. Oh, planetary. Planetary. No, no, yeah, planetary. So the modules were like astrophysics, quantum physics, that sort of stuff. That's famously the smartest shit you can do, isn't it?

34:36I mean, it was a lot of maths. I almost dropped out last year because of all the maths, but just pushed through in the end. And also because I was already doing YouTube and stuff, so I was like, I'm going to do that anyway, so why am I still doing this? What was it like doing YouTube to the other people on your course? Because that must have been so random. Mike, so I did the open uni, so I didn't see anyone. I was during COVID, so it was online. Didn't know anyone on my course. So I just thought, I started it as like a backup plan because I wanted to like do YouTube and TikTok and stuff. So I was like, oh, I'm going to do this.

35:06I like space. Astrophysics as a backup plan is insane. That's nuts, isn't it? Yeah. And I don't know where I'd be if I didn't go down this path. Because I'd be doing some kind of like astronomy or like research scientist or something. But I don't think I'd really enjoy that. So what was the dream then? what would the ideal job be within that? Would it be like that fella? Who's that fella? What? Brian Cox? Nah, he's like on YouTube and he's been on Joe Rogan a few times. He talks a lot. Neil deGrasse Tyson. Is that what you want to be him? Well, I would like to be Brian Cox. That's the sort of thing that I would have liked to do.

35:43Right, like on TV presenting about it. Yeah, exactly. And I think you'd probably just start like going. I would have gone on to get like a doctorate and then go on from there. I think maybe like down the professor route. Right. Okay. If I could even pull it off. Yeah. But that's probably the path that I would have taken. One thing, right. I've got loads of questions about this. Cause so I'm thick, right? When I imagine when you start to study maths, say you'd never studied maths before, they'll go two plus two is four. Right. And then you get a bit good at adding up and then they go, this is how you multiply.

36:20Even the way you're talking now was mad. Right. and then you get better at that, you probably do division, then it's pi, then it's fucking square root. Yeah, yeah, yeah. When you go, I'm going to study planets and that, that seems like so highbrow. What's the first, what's day one? This is Mars? You do like physics equations is mainly the thing. Like you work out the velocity, planets are moving and stuff like that. How can you work that out? Especially do an opening if you just Google it. No, they teach you how to do it. They'll give you the, I think the main thing is like, and you always have access to it in the exams.

36:57They give you the equations that you need. You just need to know how to use them and how to rearrange them to get certain things. And it's like a lot of it I've forgotten now, but they'll teach you the structure of what you need to know. So you can apply it to any situation sort of thing. So it's very mathematical. Yeah. Mathematical. Yeah. And that's why I almost dropped out because I'm good at math, but I'm not great at math. You know how some people are born and they're just like really good at math. Yeah. It took a lot of like, I need to learn this equation and learn how to do this to get to a good level at that.

37:34Right. Wow. It's smart, isn't it? That's all he takes away. Smart. He's handsome. He's funny. Smart. You're annoying. Thank you. so tell me uh tell me a fact about planets

37:53yeah a fact about planets that'll blow your mind it ain't gonna take much

38:02um okay uh all right the one that i find is most interesting because i like the whole like exoplanets things which is just planets that aren't in our solar system they're in other stellar systems. Do they all have names in that then? We do name them. Usually they're named after the star and then you just put B on the end, the first planet in the system, then C and so on and so forth. Oh, right, okay. But the way our planet, so our solar system is arranged with terrestrial planets first, so they're all rocky up to Mars. And then you get to the gas giants, which you've got Jupiter, Saturn, all of those.

38:37So they're just mostly gas. You can't land on them. They've got core, but it's just all like helium and hydrogen. It's just completely like that. Most stellar systems that you look at, the gas giants are closer to their sun, whereas in our solar system, they're the furthest away from the sun. So it's kind of a unique difference that our solar system has. There are solar systems like ours, but most, the gas giants are closest to the sun, and then you get the terrestrial ones further out. So at some point, Jupiter has moved from close to the sun outwards for some reason. And the same with all the gas giants.

39:15Has Earth moved? Yeah, everything's moved over time. Because there's that myth, I imagine it's a myth online, that if we were like, I don't know, something trivial, like 10 centimetres closer to the sun, we'd all burn. Yeah, I mean, I don't know the exact distance, but we're in like, they call it a Goldilocks zone, where water can exist in liquid state. Right, oh. Depending on how far you are away from your sun and how big it is and stuff. So if we were out of that Goldilocks zone, like Mars isn't in the Goldilocks zone, neither is Venus, you just wouldn't have life. Water would just turn to gas or something?

39:53Yeah, if you're close enough, yeah, water turns into gas or it freezes if you're further away. Fucking hell. Yeah. Jeez. So these gas planets, so did you say what ones are the gas planets, like the big boys that we know? All the big ones, yeah. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. I just imagined you could just stand on them. No, you can't, no. I know, I thought that as well before proper studying it. Yeah, they're just all gas. And they've got rings. They have a core. Saturn has rings. Uranus has rings, I think. Right. And they're just asteroids, like, or just rock that's orbiting it. That's all that is.

40:27And gas and stuff. So did they start out as rocky things and then they've just burnt and gone? Yeah, they would have. Right. They've got, like, a core. So I can't remember. I'm sure their core is like mostly, it's probably mostly iron or something like that, or just rock or whatever. But the vast majority is just gas. And that's it. And so Jupiter, the only difference between like a gas giant and a star is just size. Like if Jupiter was bigger, had more gas, eventually it gets to a point where it can just start burning like a sun burns and it would be a star. Is that what, so a star is like a burning planet?

41:03It's essentially, yeah. Like, I mean, it's just enough. It's just enough mass brought in under gravity to start the ignition of burning. Do you reckon that's how Earth's going to end up like that? No. So we're going to get engulfed by the sun. Great. Yeah. In like four billion years, the sun will, it gets to a point where it can no longer keep itself in like in one sphere because of gravity. Right. It expands further and further, becomes like a red giant and absorbs up to Earth. And then it will crash back down again. I can ask Blake, isn't it? What's the point of this? Well, 4 billion years. We've got a while.

41:41Yeah. Why are we doing this though? Do you know what I mean? Podcast. Yeah. You're going to overthink everything. Do you enjoy talking about all of this stuff? Like obviously, because as soon as people find out, I imagine they want to ask you questions. Yeah. I do enjoy talking about it. I'm just always cautious of like, cause my memory is not great. And I don't want to ever say anything that isn't like accurate. Yeah. You know, so I can't talk too in depth about certain things because I can't remember it. But this sort of stuff I like talking about. But like you say, you end up in this existential crisis when you do think about space, you're like, what is the point in anything we're doing?

42:18Because we are just on a planet. What is the point in anything? That's why sometimes I like the fact that I don't know much about things because I'm just like, yeah, let's do a pot. We always say, let's do a pot. but so when you started learning about it more did you actually have to sort of stop yourself thinking like what like thinking deeply about it yeah although i couldn't really stop it because i would just be like i don't think there's a point in any other job if it's not to do with like figuring out what's going on out there yeah why we're here and where we came from because you do just get stuck in this like your mind is no longer on like life that's happening every day you're thinking about i don't know you consume so much of like science content astronomy astronomy content yeah you're thinking i just want to know all the answers what is the point in doing a job outside of this but obviously that's stupid to think like that no but it's hard to like yeah do since studying this do you believe did you believe in ufos and aliens before that and has that changed your opinion after yeah i definitely believe before i still believe in aliens now not i don't believe a ufo has ever visited earth right i think that's all fake yeah because you like it's is like even to the closest planet it would take you years and years and years to get there say you could travel at the speed of light which nothing can anyway it's got mass it would still take like four four years at the speed of light which is impossible to do yeah imagine creating some kind of technology that you could travel at the speed of light takes you four years to get to earth you're that advanced and and you fucking crash i don't think oh yeah i don't think you would crash if you're that advanced and i don't think you'd be detected if you're that if you figure out a way to make that happen yeah i just don't think we would ever know about it So any kind of evidence of UFOs, I just don't believe that's real.

44:21I think that would probably be some government-related thing. Maybe they're making spacecraft, but don't want other countries to know about it. If it gets picked up, they just go, oh, it's a UFO. There's that one, was it Mars One, where they were going to send people up and not ever come back? I don't know. Have you ever heard about that? Was that called Mars One or something? I don't know. It sounds like the film, that Martian film. That's a great film. It was like, and don't take this as like gospel, but there was a project maybe 10 years ago. I remember getting well into this and they were getting like 10 people from all different backgrounds and different countries and stuff.

44:57And they were going to send them to be the first ever people to go to Mars. But with the caveat that they will never come back. When they just leave them. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Oh, here we go. Mars One. One-way human mission to Mars with the goal of establishing a permanent settlement, eventually leading to a crew of four arriving every two years. Wow. Yeah, so they start with that 10, then 10, 2 up, then 2 up, then 2 up. Musk's constantly saying he wants people to go to Mars now, isn't he? Yeah, he does. He'll probably do that within the next 10 years. It'll either be him or Hardest Geezer will run there.

45:28It'll be one of those two. Apparently this Mars mission went into bankruptcy in 2019. But they had people signed up for it. Would you do that? I would love to go. Not that. I wouldn't do that. No. I wouldn't be the first, but I would love to go to another planet at some point. But I'd like to do it at a time where maybe there's a hotel there or something. I don't fancy going there and being like, Well, you need to round some blue there, don't you? Yeah, I'm not going. I'm just slamming it, guys. Would you go to the moon if you were offered it? Yeah. Although you've got to be, the thing is, there's got to be a good enough reason to go.

46:05I don't really want to be one of those people who are like, oh, I'm going to space. They spend millions of dollars just to get you to space or get you to the moon. And you do no good with it. I feel like you'd have to have something to justify the journey. You can make a TikTok up there. Maybe, yeah, maybe that's all I need to do. Why did Katie Perry do it? For a tour or an album? She only went, she didn't go up. No, I know, but I spent how much on doing that? Exactly. And she's had so much backlash because it was like how much money they spent to get her into space. And also there was people on there, there was like actual astronaut or like, yeah, actual scientists who could call themselves, should be able to call themselves astronauts after that trip, but it's all been like overshadowed by the fact Katy Perry was on there.

46:43Right. And they were only in space for like eight minutes or whatever. And it's... Is that what it was? Yeah. Yeah. I think it, because they only just went over the Kármán line and then straight back down again. What's the Kármán line? It's just the light, like you can't really say where space starts and begins because it's just when people like decide it's like an arbitrary line. But the Kármán line is just like a, kind of a universally accepted that space if you go above that. Oh, right. How far did that Felix jump from? I don't know, actually. Big time. I don't know if he was over. Oh, yeah.

47:14Big time. Oh. Don't let facts get in the way, I think. I don't know, actually. I don't know if he was above that or below that. I can't imagine him being above that. Yeah. I don't know, though. Yeah, was that from space? Did that count as... He jumped from 127 ,852 feet. Felix Bumkartner. For Red Bull, I think, wasn't it? Yeah. That's mad. I'm going to play a little game with you, mate. You've already blown us away with your knowledge of astrophysics here. So I'm going to hit you with nine true or false questions. Okay. If you think they're true, I'd like you to expand on them if you can. Okay.

47:49But some of these I've made up. All right. Is this anything what the university exams are like? Not quite, no. Okay. The planet Mercury has so much silver in it that if you melted it down and brought it to Earth, it would value more than the Earth's entire economy. Hmm. Oh, that's an interesting one. I'm going to go with true. False. Is it even close to true or not? I've known. You just made it. I just pulled out of my ass, mate. Yeah, if you take that to CX, you're minted. A teaspoon of a neutron star weighs as much as a mountain range. No, I think it weighs more. So I'm going to say false. Well, you're kind of...

48:34it says on here true but i see what you're doing you're saying it weighs more rather than going i can't weigh that much so you kind of are right it says here a new a neutron star is so dense that a single teaspoon of its material would weigh about six billion tons roughly the mass of mount everest or an entire mountain range a teaspoon of a star yeah what's that look like then it's it would just look like a neutron star is just at the end of its life like a a super massive star will either go supernova and then either become a black hole or a neutron star or something. And a neutron star is just neutrons going around keeping it alive.

49:15You just wouldn't see it, I don't think. You'd see like electromagnetic radiation coming off it, but it's not like something that you can really see. Fucking hell, that's mental, isn't it? So I'd say you're correct. Yeah, I'd say you're correct. Right. One out of two. Your voice would sound extremely slow motion in space. false false made it up there is a planet made entirely of diamonds oh i saw an article about a planet that rains diamonds i don't know if that's i'm gonna say false true is it true yeah yeah it says psr j1 7 1 9 1 4 3 8 b a planet just give it just call it like loopy or something why loopy what is loopy so specific that you really wanted to be called loopy I don't know Jupiter, Pluto they're all like loopy they're all loopy alright obviously try and make up a planet name now go on the spot go see stalling give me a planet name what not english Yeah, it wasn't named by us.

50:33Oh, fair enough. Yeah. Fair enough. I can't dispute that. Yeah, you can't. So that planet there, it's a big code, is a planet orbiting a pulsar 4 ,000 light years away. It's likely composed largely of crystalline carbon, essentially a giant diamond. Damn. Yeah, mad. A valuable little thing. Yeah. Big thing. A star's corpse can outshine a galaxy. Corpse? Yeah. True. It is true. Yeah. What does that mean? So that's the supernova remnant. It can just be brighter than a whole galaxy. Like a supernova. Wow. You see it now outshine a galaxy. Like even if a big star went supernova in the Milky Way, you'd see it would light up.

51:17You'd see it bang. Really? Yeah. It's fascinating. The climate and humidity found on Mars is most closely matched to the country of Morocco. False. Yeah. I made that. black holes can sing oh true yeah yeah can tell us a bit about that i think that's because you can hear the well do they emit the radio waves and you can like just tone it down to hear hear it pretty much yeah when black holes merge they produce gravitational waves ripples in space time these waves um detected by ligo can be translated into sound like frequencies creating eerie chirps that let us hear cosmic events billions of light years away um two more most of the universe is invisible true correct and then finally on saturn the native language is spanish that's true as well that's gotta be true

52:19well yeah i really i think you impressed me my knowledge isn't that great though no but just any knowledge i'm easy though but we sometimes like it's we luckily we've not had this for a long time but like when we used to get a lot of youtubers on they're great and they're super talented at what they do and stuff like that but it is just we always find it's just like tell us about your first video stuff like that but you seem to have a vast knowledge in a lot of things like it's not just astrophysics you want you want to be an actor right is that is that high on your list i do yeah i would love to do that yeah i saw a video of you the other day and weirdly it was almost exactly two years today that you said this and you were saying two years ago three years time you want to have your own show okay so you've got a year like a year today okay yeah that's fine are you any closer to achieving that goal i'm definitely closer to that yeah okay so what would the show be what's the italian bat show we can't give it away i can't give i can't give it completely away but i'd love to do a mockumentary oh it would be that what like a sitcom yeah have you have you written it part of it yeah wow how much would you say you've written concept not much i mean i've got the full concept yeah and yeah i've written some but not completely you know have you are you like writing that do you not no i love it it's my favorite part really yeah that's my least favorite part i like it just being a bit more free you know right are you doing it with people or is it just like your baby it's like my thing but i'll take it i've been taking it to people and then yeah we'll probably do it with a team so is this something that we're gonna see do you think hopefully yeah hopefully because that's what you're really good at so there's people online like there's there's you who who else am i saying there's a guy called who i really like squib squid games uh no yeah yeah squid yeah he's very funny so funny like these little um these like little skits online that like take, take every, I don't even know how you'd explain it, but like you're very good at picking out like the nuances of like little jokes and stuff like that and running with it.

54:21So I think if you applied that to a sitcom, it could be, it could be really good. How, however, is your acting skills? Okay. I mean, I feel like, I don't know. Cause in a TikTok, I feel like I can do that character fine, but it's a different, it's a whole different thing in like an actual acting environment. you've got all these cameras on you and you're following a script I don't think I'm great at following a script that's another question, are your TikToks are they scripted or do you just I'll put in bullet points of things that I think are funny and want to hit but it's all just off the cuff when there's a script in front of me it makes me feel like I have to be really rigid with that and do that feels robotic and also I'm trying to remember the words it kind of takes away from trying to act right, well you say that I've got a script for you lovely I want to see I love scripts I want to see how good you are at acting Batch and so what I've done is I've written a little script for you and Stevie we sometimes do this you've got to do this as well Stevie I should have told you really I've written a script I sometimes do this on the show right so we write a script you don't know the dialogue or anything like that I'll be the narrator and I really want you guys to go all in on this so imagine like the Oscar board watching this or something like that.

55:41What I've done as well is where you've got your... I've got bits of dialogue, says Isaac there, and then in brackets, the bits that you don't read, is how you deliver it. So the emotion. So you'll know before you read it how to deliver it. Okay. It's easier if I give Batch my phone because if you've got to read the narration. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cool. It's only two pages, but this is a play starring Italian Batch and Stevie White that I've called Two Fit Bros. Two Fit Bros. Batch walks into his regular gym and struts over to his usual mat, ready to do an intense abdominal workout. I can't wait to do an intense...

56:18No, you've got this. Breathe. He didn't do his vocal warm-ups. That's true. Okay, I'm there.

56:29That's what I do, so... I can't bloody wait to do an intense abdominal workout. However, as he arrives at his usual mat, he notices it is actually occupied by a man he recognises, but has never seen in his gym before. It's Stevie White from that podcast. Stevie looks up from his mat. FX's American Horror Story returns for an unrivaled 13th instalment. With the iconic horrors you love to fear, and an all-star cast reprising fan-favourite roles. 58:23oh nothing it's just i usually use that mat well on the alpha now cunt

58:34sorry oh I just went to say bit sorry okay bit aggressive mate no problem I can wait my turn oh that's good yeah

58:53there's a new alpha in town Sorry, I lost it. I lost it. I was looking into my eyes and I'm a bit nervous. Imagine your tape. There's a new alpha in town. Why is that funny, mate? He's better have.

59:12I got this. Come on, mate. I didn't know alphas could be overweight. God, I felt that. Are you calling me fat? Well, yeah, literally did just call you over the way.

59:30It's actually a condition. I have an underactive thyroid. Thyroid. I lost it. Well, I didn't know that having an underactive thyroid... Well, I didn't know that a side effect of having an underactive thyroid could also make you a horrible twat. He remembers it really well. He puts the phone down. He doesn't even read it off the thing. I'm just reading. Yeah. I'm sorry. It's just ever since my dad left me as a child, I've struggled to communicate with people effectively. I'm sorry, mate. You can use the mat as long as you want. I guess you just reminded me of him and all that built-up emotional baggage I've carried for all those years just came out in a nasty burst.

1:00:17I'm so sorry. He had a moustache just like yours. that probably explains the that probably explains the weight gain too comfort eating

1:00:37I miss you Isaac you were the best dad ever sorry how do you know my name I don't I said I miss my dad no you literally just said Isaac That is my dad's name, you twat Ooh, getting nasty again

1:01:00Well, my name's Isaac as well And I've been through some stuff too It's not just you Oh yeah? Like what? You didn't have your dad walk out on you ten years ago, did you? No, but I did walk out on my son ten years ago that's good tension fills the air as the boys begin to realise who the other is dad is that you

1:01:31son son it's good to see you why don't you stand up for your old man that is brilliant Stevie slowly gets up from the mat and slowly turns to face Isaac, arms stretched out wide ready to receive an embrace how What? I don't understand after all this time. Isaac slides the mat away from where Stevie was stood.

1:02:01Of course I'm not your dad, you fat dweb. I'm eight years younger than you. But thanks for the gym mat, you sweaty mess. Don't ever use it again. Oh! God! That was really good. That was a great story. And you were going off peace a little bit. You were having a little bit. At no point did he actually tell you to call me fat. Cheers for that, mate. My own storyline, yeah. Sorry about that. That's good. That's good. You're not bad as well, Stevie. Thanks. I like that anime twist that you got on your inflections. I don't know. What's that? What did you say? What? Dad. I watch a lot of anime. What's the problem?

1:02:44Yeah, that's called overacting, that. Yeah, that's bad. I don't know how to act. Have you had acting lessons? No. You're good. You're good. Me? Not me. Keep complimenting me though. No, I'm not good. I'm not good at acting. I can't, no. The fact that you don't just read it, like your natural thing is to just go, yeah, cool, and just do it. I cannot just not read it. I was just trying to remember. I thought, you know, I was trying to impress Jack. You did a good job. You did. The moment you walked in it, mate. The moment you walked in. I always knew my dad could do it. I know the answer to this question, but some of our listeners might not.

1:03:19Why Italian batch? Why is that your game? So it was a game attack. I was like eight, making a game attack. I'm only quarter Italian. What, is it your nan or granddad? Nonno, yeah. Ah, okay, yes. You know? What? It's like you wanted to face up an Italian man. Yeah, okay, yes. But couldn't think of an Italian word. Okay, yes, I can understand. I said, I said, I said,

1:03:48Your brain was really going, what's Italian? I said, he is Italian. Oh, okay. I thought he's like, yeah, he is Italian. He is Italian. Okay. This is like when Joey Barton went to Marseille and started speaking with my French accent. Oh, that was good. Core Italian. And I was coming up with a game of tag on Xbox and I wanted Italian to be in it. I thought it'd be cool. And then I was going to call myself Italian Bitch. Just thought that would be funny and cool. Xbox wouldn't let me have it, so it became like Bitch without a T. And then it wouldn't allow that, bish. So then I took the I away and put an A in it for Batch.

1:04:26Batch? Like, yeah. So it came from Italian Bitch. Oh, okay. I didn't actually know that you had any Italian in you. Yeah, I'm quarter Italian. Right. So it's coursing through my veins, as you can tell. So I thought you just picked it out at random. Just random, no. There is some connection there. Oh, okay. I thought it was just like the same as you calling, I don't know if you just called yourself like German cant or something like that. I have to look afterwards.

1:04:59German cant maybe.

1:05:04Oh, right, okay. Oh, so bad. What was your first bit of content you ever put online? Do you remember? Um, I did a lot, I filmed a lot of YouTube videos with one of my friends at that sort of time. Yeah. And it was just random stuff. Like we'd recreate, um, I'm a celeb and the people on the, on the show. And we did, um, we called ourselves the pink bros, wore pink t-shirts and danced a bit. So I was sure you've heard of us. How long ago was this? I would have been, this is like 14, 15 years ago, easily, probably longer, 16, 17, maybe. Yeah. like I was young doing this stuff and then started doing my own content yeah there was there's a lot of videos that I posted to Facebook because I tried Facebook sort of before YouTube right but I deleted all them a lot of like I don't know I would like eat a Kit Kat and then say oh it made me hyper and then just like edit a video around that yeah god that was that was good times back in the day yeah we just did random shit yeah I just had a lot of fun doing it but the first video that's like on YouTube of me is that you can find is a pineapple war, which is just me cutting up a pineapple with a labyrinth in the background.

1:06:14With what in the background? Labyrinth. The film? Earthquake. The music. Come in. I thought you meant the David Baff. He's just cutting it off and a TV in the background. Doing it for two hours. So was it TikTok that really helped you blow up? Yeah, because I made loads of YouTube channels, never had any success with it. Then I was at school and I was like, I don't want a post on youtube at school because i was embarrassed right didn't post tiktoks at school waited till after school made a fitness account yeah uh started posting fitness content because i thought that was less cringe that's the best way to get into it yeah did that for ages did that for like over a year that did well like i i'd gained like 350 000 followers on like this fitness account but it was like it wasn't really me it was very boring stuff right and then decided to make italian batch and then just went with that and then the videos just sort of took off just kept going and then started YouTube again alongside and then that eventually took off after a year like I was posting TikToks doing well for a year yeah whilst my YouTube videos were just getting no views but I just kept going and eventually a video did well you and then that started growing you kind of so when I started was like fucking years ago because I'm a lot older I'm 32 so I'm eight years older than you so and so a lot of my stuff happened by luck like that yeah happened to get lucky that zoella released a shit advent calendar and yeah i just bullied a woman and got here but but with you i heard you on another podcast say that you kind of like strategize the whole thing i was i was always obsessed with youtube and youtubers and always knew that that's what i wanted to do right so i did a lot of like yeah just deep diving into how people made it work for them and then just try to replicate that like the name i didn't go with my own name I went with Italian batch because I was like a lot of the big creators just use like Mr.

1:08:05Beast for instance I would look at people like that yeah like they don't use a name they just use that because it's I don't know maybe more memorable or whatever yeah um and then on TikTok this I mean here's the reason why I grew a mustache and a mullet is because I was at the time they weren't that popular yeah and I was like well I guess that's kind of different if I do that it's a bit more recognizable I even started wearing like a headband in some videos right and not just a Nike headband I was like maybe that's going to be my thing and then people see that and be like, oh, it's the headband guy.

1:08:32I didn't carry on with that for, I'm glad I didn't. Otherwise I'd still be wearing that today. But yeah, I was just trying to find ways to make it more likely to work, you know? Yeah, that's smart. I remember someone saying to me once that like to become famous or to become well known, you need to easily be drawn as a caricature. So, you know, like if somebody said to you like to draw like Robin Williams, that you could draw you pick like the big bits and me it'd be like the massive teeth and yeah stuff like that so it's like i always go for the teeth because i know these kind of things but it's mental to me that you had the foresight to go like i'm gonna change up my style and all that just just to do it did you notice um a big like growth after changing it or was it a gradual thing i think so i mean i think it was more of a gradual thing but i was just so obsessed with it that I was just trying to find any way to make it work.

1:09:27And I was posting on YouTube for like a year consistently. Every week? Yeah, like every week and not getting anywhere. And I was like, I need to find. And every night I'd be like, I use Mr. Beast as an example, probably a terrible example to be like, oh, I was researching him. But at the time I just was researching. Well, he's the perfect model of what works. Exactly. I just went back to the very beginning of his. I've watched every single one of his videos. Have you? There was nights where I'd be up to 3 a.m. just watching his like oldest videos and being like, why did he at that time start getting traction why did people start to watch him and where did it happen and stuff like that and i would just pick out like things that i think affected it and then try that in my own stuff and whether that really worked or not or whether it was just luck i don't know but i think the obsession regardless is what made it work right you know so whether the things i implemented had any effect yeah well i'm sure they did because you're successful now like you're you're you're doing it so i wonder but i wonder if like if i never went down the path of like oh going for italian batch and i just did my name yeah probably be just the same what what was the content on youtube like because obviously tiktok's a very different place you can't upload tiktok content on youtube yeah it was just um reaction videos because like yeah like i'd look back and mr beast started like reaction ryan trahan i look back he started reaction style and it's like the easiest way to be consistent so then people can buy into your personality and then you can start to do the other thing because on tiktok i like i would do skits but no one really cares no one really knows me they just like skits yeah and so it was like impossible for me to try like get that audience over to youtube there was no like crossover it was like i had to build a whole new audience on youtube yeah and so it was just trial and error of like what works so so because i checked your numbers yesterday and like we said in the intro you got 2.8 mil on tiktok which is incredible and then you've got another which i actually find more impressive you've actually got 800k on youtube which i think is mad because i don't know if it's just because i don't really do youtube content anymore but i find like growth on youtube so hard now like so few people to follow on tiktok i think is an easier ask than to follow subscribe to a youtube channel yeah yeah so how are your youtube fans did they come from tiktok or no they didn't like i would look at the stats of like i'd make a tiktok saying oh go and watch this video and you can see you know as you know like how many people came from tick like no one would come over from tick tock right it was like a whole new audience and then i could see the demographic like i've got much more of like an american audience on youtube oh wow then tick tock tick tock's like mainly uk a bit of american um it was it was just another just a whole other like demographic that i'd found on youtube yeah i'm sure there's like an element of people being on youtube and maybe they see me in a thumbnail and they're like oh i follow them on tick tock maybe i'll watch that so the stats don't really show they came from tiktok but as far as i'm aware i don't think any like the tiktok really pushed much over to youtube anyway two separate separate yeah because i had like um i must have had a million tiktok followers and still not hit 10k on youtube yet really struggling to get any views so when did the youtube start quite recently that all like yeah like um i'd say two summers ago i had my first so not yeah not last summer the summer before that i I had my first video get over like 50 ,000 views and then eventually went on.

1:12:46Like now it's got a million views. It did really well. What was that? It was just me reacting to like a love at first kiss thing. Oh, okay, right. And that just, yeah, just seemed to work. And I think for ages before then, my problem was I didn't realize, I think I was naive to think that people might come over from TikTok and just watch whatever I did. Yeah. At that point, I realized the thing I was watching had to be more entertaining than me. Right. And I picked that series and I think that I just got lucky landing on that being something people wanted to watch. And so then, yeah, from that one video, I did three similar.

1:13:20They did just as well and then just did more funny videos and then people would watch it because they'd already seen that. Do you edit them or do you get someone to edit them? Someone edits them now. Right. But in the beginning, yeah, I was editing. And with your TikTok, because that's how I know you. That's how I stumbled across you. My mate Jake, who's probably going to listen to this, is a huge fan of yours. What was your first TikTok that blew up? Because you do lots of different things. Yeah. Skit-wise, I think the first one that blew up was, it was either a walking ick, which is just like a boyfriend who's just very cringe doing icky stuff, or it was the PE teacher videos, which were just playing into the fact that all PE teachers are nonces, essentially.

1:14:02Those two, were you a PE teacher? No, you had a PE teacher. Oh, you're just a nonce. Oh. even worse I love that I'll be up yeah oh you're a the non-see not the non-ter right they're out there it's relatable that's why it worked but before the skits I did a there was a sound that was just like a fuck off sound I can't remember what it was called I just did that it was like a sound trend you get millions on each one right and maybe it's because you're younger and more sort of in touch with the youth of today than us. We're old men. Our TikToks are not good. Right. Can you give us... I've never uploaded one.

1:14:49No, but like... So they're pretty bad. That does not help. So that's why I'm going wrong. Yeah. Yeah, you're really struggling. Fuck. I knew I was looking. Just refreshing. Yeah. No one's liked it. Can you give us some tips? What should we be doing? so like say right say if i had to give someone some youtube tips right i know right come up with the thumbnail and title first work backwards try and keep someone engaged every minute of the video like blah blah blah what do we do on tiktok i think if you want to be a tiktoker yeah you have to hit a few things you've got mullet look you need the mullet everyone's got fucking mullet no you need to um obviously consistency but that applies to everything yeah um that when you're Making a video, like I'll talk in terms of skits because that's what I do.

1:15:35So it becomes more natural. Like you need the idea and the execution to be good. If you miss, like make a mistake on one of those things, the video is not going to do well. Right. So the idea has to be relatable and funny and you have to execute it well. Like if it's filmed badly, if you're shit at acting it out and not making the point come across, it's not going to do well. Like you can get one of those two things right and the video does. But if you get them both and the video does really well. right and then the other thing i would say is like you've got to find a way to get your personality out there as well yeah and if you're just like a skit creator that's really hard maybe throw in some like videos of just you talking or make a second account where that's the personality one because otherwise people don't care about you yeah and that won't translate to any other platform so if so what you're saying there is say you you do skits it's then hard to like show your personality someone like me if i've got a podcast they know my personality inside out yeah is it then hard for me to do a skit?

1:16:32Because one of my favourite videos you did was when it was, I think it was when you try and take a photo of your dog. Yeah. That was spot on. Yeah. You're getting the mannerisms of not just humans now, but animals. You're getting dogs now. So I was like, if I can't even do humans, what hope have I got? But if I started to do that kind of video, everyone, even if I say I did it exactly the same as you, everyone would be going, you're a fucking brainer. What the fuck are you doing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do think it's hard like as a when you're making those kinds of TikToks it's really helpful to not have done anything else because it's like you're not attached to this guy you're attached to the concept you think the concept's funny you like the way that he's done it but if they know you already they're like Jack what the fuck are you doing what are you playing at so yeah I did try and do a skit like a year ago oh did you and all the comments were like fucking weird how did it go really terrible I think it got a million tocks on it though yeah but they were probably going what the fuck tocks did you just call it tocks got a million talks on it not even views they're still called views on TikTok aren't they yeah I don't know why maybe we should just do like some TikTok dancers together people would want to see that on a second account I would do stuff like that not like in a serious way like if I just want to be funny doing some random shit see our producer fee is always trying to say get on TikTok do the trends so you get like a sound and then you do a dance.

1:17:59Yeah, but you can pick the one, like there'll be loads of trends with sounds that you'll think, oh, that's cringe, but there'll be a bunch that you think are funny. Right. So you should definitely do it. We would get slated. I think people will find it funny though because you'd be doing it like ironically. Yeah, but at what point does it stop becoming an irony? Yeah, then you can start to actually like it. You just get into it a bit too much. Just before we finish, I've got some quick fire questions from the Happy Hour listeners that are fans of yours and we'll just rattle through them. So we've already answered this one.

1:18:32Where did your obsession for the rose toys start? Is Grandpa Batch still a perv? Yeah, or yeah, always will be. Yeah, cool. How much to shave the mustache? Oh, I don't think I can do it. I don't know what's under there anymore. If I offered you 10 grand now to shave it. No. 20? No. How long have you had it? Not even that long. just since the beginning of making content maybe three years 50 grand now cash I couldn't I think it would damage me more yeah but how long is it going to take to grow that back if that's an option maybe I'll do it yeah you don't have to have it gone forever 10 grand then now no I know no because it would ruin no fine I'll do it for 10 grand people would want to watch that though if you could film that as content as well maybe I'd have some benefit from it Does your girlfriend get annoyed at the thirst trap TikTok edits made about you?

1:19:29No, because a lot of them now include her, and there's probably more of her. Oh, okay. Yeah, so the tables have turned. Are you good at knowing which of your videos will pop off before you post them? Yeah, I think I am, but then the odd one, like, I'll post, and it just blows up. I'm like, that's not that funny. Why is that done well? So it's like, sort of, but not really. Would you ever do Misfits? No. No, I would not. why not though I think it destroys your like career in terms of you you have to stop posting for what three months yeah true and you just become like a boxer like genuinely and if you stop posting for three months at least for me because I'm in like a growing stage I'm not like well established so I can't afford to take three months off like posting YouTube videos and stuff yeah which just damaged me yeah fair you I'd do it in a heartbeat would you yeah but you can still do the podcast yeah you can still be talking about on the podcast yeah time free you take three months off people still gonna watch your podcast if i take three months off i think people are like they'll forget about you a little bit do you think do you feel the pressure of that yeah yeah i feel like at the moment i have to just keep pushing stuff out how often do you post on tiktok uh tiktok i try to do like one two a day but then youtube three times a week so it's like how do you come up with that many ideas yeah i just got a list what same same do you post same time every day or not no it's like random and not every day will be two two times a day like but in a good week yeah and how many do you film a day really depends how what mood I'm in right and how much other stuff I've got on but let's say like two three maybe every day if I'm doing well otherwise like I'll just put I'll film one a day and just upload that one on the day and how long is your list of ideas it's long can I see it yeah it's where's my phone oh yeah I dropped it Bear Grylls got it let me show you I forgot he's down there doing his thing yeah let me pull this it's quite like i'm always blown away i don't want to sound patronizing but i'm always blown you you do sometimes just think are they just do tiktok yeah when you when you speak to them and they have like a huge fucking list of stuff where do you just do you just get your ideas from like everyday things then yeah pretty much yeah you scroll down through that not all of them are funny they're in mind um but yeah i'll just get it through like everyday stuff or are these ones that you haven't done yet some of them i've done a version of but i know i can do another version of what apps this but most that's notion oh okay but most of them i are like new that list is huge it is massive it's over but the thing is i'll have this massive list and then a new idea pops into my head and i just do that oh so you don't add to it you just get that idea and so the list like there's some ideas on the list that i should have done ages ago but just forgotten about which you can't take you don't want to ruin it but oh you can say yeah you're cracking up at us i feel like you need to do it already says everyone's singing happy this is all it says everyone's singing happy birthday yo what song is this yeah that's just jogging my mind what's this one um you walk into a a and e at 3 a.m filmed like oh yeah yeah so that's um it's just like you know when you walk into that should be said like film like pov like that okay um just you walk into a and a at 3am it's full of crackheads and so much shit's going on okay yeah have you ever seen the meme of that pub where it's like yes yeah it's gonna be like that yeah i'm gonna read one more um

After posting online for 15+ years, he’s built up a selection of tips for online success that he shares with us today.
