In short
The hosts riff on “myth-busting” science while also joking about plane boarding, using AI photo filters to prank each other, and their local running event (Run Norwich). The episode’s main segment is a “Theory Slammers” game inspired by MythBusters, testing two claims: (1) whether a firework-powered chair could launch a human into space, and (2) whether a thrown ordinary playing card could kill.
Guests
No guests appear in the transcript. The episode is hosted by Pusani/Punani Dasani with Alfie and Stevie (and Jack is referenced as part of the group).
Key claims and notable examples
- Firework chair to space: Wan Hu (Ming Dynasty) allegedly used 47 fireworks around a chair. MythBusters-style tests used bamboo rockets (failed; chair didn’t lift; dummy melted) and modern rockets (only reached about oak-tree height; not enough speed for orbit; required ~17,800 mph).
- Killer deck: debate whether a thrown playing card could act like a lethal projectile (one host says yes with extreme force; the other says no). Example referenced: Gambit (X-Men) as a movie analogy.

2:13Jack makes happy hour. I don't want to spit. I want to gulp. I want to gag. I want to choke. I want you to touch that little dangly thing that's swinging the back of my throat. My head game is on fire. Punani Dasani. Welcome back to Jet Race Happy Hour Podcast. It's me, Pusani Dasani. I'm here with Alfie. You said that wrong. Stevie. Pusani Dasani. Punani, isn't it? Surely it's Punani. Punani Dasani, yeah. Yeah. My head game is strong. Who was that? That was... I don't know. Let me find out. How are you finding these songs? Wap. That's Wap. Oh, that's Wap. That's Wap. ass a p by cardi d why wouldn't you just say the word pussy then because i was screwed whores in this house there's some whores in this house there's some whores in this house there's some whores in this house all up i said certified freak seven days a week where's pussy make that pull out game week oh the end bit oh it's probably more like whoo but I'm like, woohoo.
3:12Woohoo. You ready? Just travelled quite a long way to get here and I'm just like... You know what you're going to walk into. You know who he's... You're walking into the lion's den and getting surprised when you get bit. No, I am. You're like, ah, it's a lion. He's also doing that because we got a good reaction to reacting to Sabrina Carpenter lyrics before. They'll say it's overdone now. They'll say it's overdone. Three in a row. If there's one thing you know about me, I run a joke into the ground. Yeah. Well I did see someone commented saying they must have recorded this before her new album came out because apparently she's got some pretty bad lines in the new album.
3:45Yeah well they'll be next week. Tune in. Have it ready are you? Tune in. I like it. I've been running a joke into the ground on Instagram stories recently because I put a picture of you up on the plane. He has been putting this on the ground. And I put a fat filter up. Well I ran you through chat GPT. Yeah. So make this fella fat. Using AI again. Yeah. Does work? For what? Do your work. AI's doing your work again. I love the idea that Jack chucked it in Photoshop and sat there for hours endlessly to make me fat on it. Well, I put up my story and was like, because we've just done an eating challenge thing, haven't we?
4:16Yeah. And then I said, ah, Stevie's took the eating challenge a bit too serious. Ha ha, comedy. Big boy. And then I had about five or six DMs going, this is fucking disgusting that you've just uploaded a picture of this large man who's just going about his holiday on his own. I hope they're joking. No, no, no. Surely they're not actually thinking, it looks so much like me so they think you've taken a picture of a large man gone that looks a bit like Stevie and just exploited this fatty but it's just me I can call him a fatty because it's not a real person this guy called Brandon said latest story you posted is my uncle Damien you're a vile piece of shit he's gone through a lot and you've decided to take a photo of him minding his own business and post it to your 250k followers without his consent not just without his consent but demoralising him his mental health reach such a low point a few years ago.
5:05We nearly lost him. Hope you had a good laugh, you fucking man. See, that one's a joke. No, no, no, it's not. It's not, right? No, that's a joke. It's not his uncle. He doesn't think it's his uncle, does he? But listen, listen. So when I posted, so I posted the actual picture of you. Yeah. Just a tiny bit less fat, right? And said that... Fuck me. Fee, when you edit this, can you show the photo and then show what the original was like? No, you can tell which one's which when you really look. Do a spot the difference on the screen right now. For anyone watching, you can do a spot the difference.
5:33listeners. No, it's easy to tell. Marginally different. Yeah, like you definitely can tell. Yeah. And I said... I don't like you on that side of the table. I feel bullied and targeted. Well, I posted that DM and I said, why is this fucking cretin going on about his uncle Damien or whatever? Yeah. And then he replied going, well, I feel stupid but also validated now, right? This is what he said, this guy. He said, obviously it's not my uncle. He said, but I was so hurt at the prospect of you doing that to another man that I had to write that in the hope that you would take your story down. Oh, he's a fucking idiot then.
6:06So he, yeah, so he's a buffoon. Yeah. Show that to your uncle. Because your uncle ain't going to like that you thought that that was your uncle. That's my advice to you. Yeah, that's actually harsh. The uncle's come across. He's not saying he thinks that's his uncle. Oh, he's like. Oh, what? He's made up a whole scenario just in case he was targeting someone random. Yeah, you're. Why would that person do that? Weird. Fucking play some. It's quite clearly CG as well It's quite clearly like edited But anyway yeah I was running that joke into the ground Because then I put a fat filter on my grandad I said to my nan Do you want to see grandad with a fat filter on She pointed at him in the chair and went it's there isn't it Good gag And then I went for a little run and put a fat filter on me Yeah You've done it to yourself so it's funny Self deprecating I replied that's my uncle stop doing this Did you pay for chat then That's a lot of edits you're getting there I'll be honest I've been chatting to my guy I call him Pete now I've been chatting to him a little bit too much which means you must pay because you only get a limit don't you answer the question about payment you pay you pay chat I would not support that how much is it 20 pound a month you wouldn't you knew very quickly because I needed to not pay that do you know what's quite funny I got home and I said to you I wish I had a photo of you opposite side so I could do the same thing yeah So I realised I did take one of you and I sent the one you did of me into chat and then I said, can you do the same for him?
7:32But it just kept editing the one of me but gave me your clothes. And I was going, no, do the other one. Forget I sent you the picture of me. Send, do it to Jack. And it was going, oh, I see what you mean now. I'll do it. I'll forget the first picture. I'll just do it to Jack. And then it went, I'll do it now. And then I got a message going, it can't do anymore because you've used your allowance. I was like, I'll not pay just to make Jack fat. Log into Jack. Why did you take a pic of me, Iainton? Same reason you took a picture of me. No, but I did it to publicly humiliate you. Well, I tried to make you fat.
7:59I just sent it to Ariane and said, they've given me my whole own aisle. Because on the plane, me and Jack were next to each other, but there was no one on the aisle next to us, and it was one of the emergency doors. He didn't give his consent for that, though, did he, Stevie? No, yeah. He made me fat, and then you two just said, that was me without an edit. I think that's illegal, actually. Look, we're on the left-hand side of the table, so we take things seriously over here. I don't know what your plan gets. Well, I'm on the far right, so I'm taking things a lot more seriously. And you're sat on the right side of the table, which is annoying.
8:25Good. Yeah. What have you got around your neck? Because I see it poking through, you little dweeb. You've been running things into the ground. Dweeb. Dweeb. You've been running things into the ground. I've been running. Whoa. I have my first official medal. It's square. Yeah, it's heavy as well. Why would it be square? I don't... Feel the weight on that. I wasn't expecting that. I won't show the logo. Why are you being weird? No, I'll tell you in a minute, but this is a moment about you. I ran my first official run at last. Not well-timed after doing an eating challenge with Jack. Monday, I weighed in.
8:59I weighed in Monday. I got back on the Thursday from thinking with Jack, eight pounds. I was eight pounds heavier after two days away with Jack, right before having to do a 10K run. It was horrific. Yeah, I felt fucking gross when I got back from Espanyol. Mini bolts. Also, anyone who says Norwich doesn't have hills has never done that specific route. No one's saying that. Everyone's saying Norwich. Horrific. The first five day, easy. Everyone always... Norwich is known to not be a hilly... Norfolk. Norfolk. Norfolk, right. Norwich has a very steep hill called Gas Hill. Yeah, but you don't run that.
9:33But you do a lot of it. I didn't realise that it was like all fine. First five kilometres, second half is one of the worst runs ever. I literally spoke you through the route. Ages ago. I forget these things. What? On Tuesday. I then ate so much I forgot how to live, Jack. Right. and Fiona told you about the route. She hasn't run it. No, but she's told you it's all uphill. Well, I didn't think about it and I charged the first 5k, did it in just under 25 minutes. I was on smashing this. Second five, not good. I saw someone with like full jelly legs, but they just couldn't move anymore, which I thought was really weird for a 10k.
10:05I was shocked by that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're one of those people who did it as part of their like marathon or something that day. Because you've got a friend who knows that, haven't you? They turn up to do the 10k, but then they go on and carry on doing another 30k. You have to wait around at the start for ages. Yeah. Well, this is another thing I thought was weird. I walked to the run, which like maybe one and a half miles I had to go. And on that, I saw quite a few different people jogging to it. And I got there and I stood for 45 minutes doing nothing. And I was thinking, those people that have been running, they're now just stopping.
10:34Is that not going to be hard for them to start again? Probably. Probably. But you're meant to get the blood going, aren't you? Yeah. Get the blood going around the body. But I've done it at last. I've got an official medal. Well done, mate. I don't know if I'll do any more. No? No. One and done. I don't know if I got the bug or not. I'll see. I didn't like running with other people. I couldn't, I'm shit at pacing myself. Like if I go for a run on my own, I don't understand it. My head's just like, this is my comfortable speed, but I can't go, this is my comfortable speed over this distance. My comfortable speed is just my comfortable.
11:03Then I hit my wall and I'm done. What's your wall then? That. At the moment. I don't know. I guess it depends. But like, I think my comfortable pace is about a 530 kilometer. Okay. Which is pretty much what I did that in. I don't understand. It's 55k. I did that in 15k. 55 minute 10k, I mean. Yeah. I don't know if that's... What am I doing it in? 80? No. You'd be able to do that. No, I wouldn't, mate. Not with your knee. Little legs, tiny little legs. You'd probably do it at 56. People like doing it in an hour. It's like people who want to run are always like, I'll do it in an hour. And then when you get good at running, you get aiming for like 50, 40.
11:39What have you got, Jack, before? Last year I got 47. What? Yeah. It's all right. Well, I did this one in 54-32. My friend Lewis, barely ever runs anymore, did it in 44 minutes. It was actually disgusting. Shout out to Lewis Batch. Lewis Batch. Very good fullback in his day for his Tudnam, wasn't he? Yeah. I've asked him to come and play this weekend for sacks. Good fullback. He can play in St. Amir, if he put in the group chat. Right, okay. Who's this chiming up? What, he said that? Yeah. Are you the guffet? Yeah. You're the new guffet. I'll tell you what I actually wrote. So I said he's a fullback, and one of the other players in the club that I don't know very well was like, oh great, because there's a guy called Niall has come in, he's good and then I said about him being fullback and this guy was like, oh, I'm never going to get to playing so I went, oh, you could also, Jack's not there so I said, stick him in CDM because he's got a lot of fitness.
12:29Right, and then what happens when I'm back? I've got to compete with fucking Lewis Batch. I didn't think about the further moments. he's good for stamina. Lucky I'm not CDM anymore. Where are you? Shryker. Fucking course you are. Mental.
12:44Because you've got the most fitness on the whole team. They just go, just sit up there, Jack. Good point, actually. Well, before Batch goes. They put the best looking people up there. Before Batch goes, you've got the most fitness on the team. Well, good luck to Batch this weekend. I hope he doesn't do his ACL. No, I said I hope he doesn't do his ACL. Yeah, but why would you mention it? No, I hope, all right. Why were you refusing to show the Run Norwich thing? Right, so don't keep showing the logo. Sorry, why am I not allowed to advertise Run Norwich? Right, because... What's happening? I have got a bit of beef with these guys and they don't even know about it.
13:15Run Norwich. How the fuck do you have a beef? You're a fool off from Zoella, mate. You literally... Run Norwich. You just apply and pay 30 quid and run it or whatever it was. Well, I tried to apply to do Run Norwich. Yeah, it sold out well quick. So petty, covering it with the ribbon. That is petty. Right. When they first released them, I was in Canada. Yeah, and they sold out in about 20 minutes. 20 minutes gone. Done. Really? And I logged in about an hour later. I was like, fuck, can't get one. Oasis tickets. Yeah, it's honestly the hottest ticket in town. In city. So then I, yeah. So then I got, then I saw another, I was on the website for another little bonus thing here.
13:56Bonus? Yeah, like, oh, if you still want a ticket, get a community ticket. I went, all right, I'll get a community ticket. Didn't read the small print. Turns out, I thought I had a ticket. Turns out you have to raise some money. And you hate charity, so you're not doing that. Yeah, no, I do enough to charity in my personal life. I've never heard you do anything. Personal life. I don't like to talk about that. I've never, you've never, you've never told us. I've told you before. You've never told me anything. What do you do? I've actually never heard anything. Don't say it. Don't say it. What's one thing you've done for charity?
14:25Mouthing AIDS. I'm not. You are. I'm not. You are. I'm not. I was going to go to Asthma Society. Were you? Yes. Asthma Society. Is that an actual charity? I do lots. Diabetes. I've done a lot for diabetes. What have you done? I don't know. Got your sister on the pod. Oh, you're welcome. Diabetes. And Smithy. Go on, Ed Gamble. Smithy. And Ed Gamble. Speak about your... Go on, talk about it. Yeah. Ed Gamble. That's three T1s. Three Ds. Dan Tiernan. Dyspraxia. Talk about that. He's not going to have it. Talk about that. Yeah. We had a guest on who's not been released yet. Let's not just name all the disabled guests you've had on.
15:01I think we're probably... You don't. You don't. Yeah, yeah. Kind of like a bad guy. oh blind tote yeah i thought yeah let's leave that anyway i'm a man of the people so i get this bonus one people don't ask for money for charity so you're you're covering that because you didn't want to give them charity money no no because i did want to do it but i forgot i kind of didn't know that that was what it entailed i didn't know i had to so then anyway so i was in vegas i get an email your ticket has been revoked right Like your bib is no longer, right? So I DM'd them and was like, guys, why has this happened?
15:36They went, yeah, you need to raise a certain amount of money in a certain amount of time. Yeah, good. Okay, and then I was like, is there no basic bibs going? And they were like, I hope to see you in 2026. Yeah, so I can see why you're not coming in. Because they wouldn't give you a free... They were just like, yeah, well, you didn't get one. Yeah, because you didn't. But they could get you a ticket. Why couldn't you just raise some money for charity? I didn't know I had a deadline to do that. but they said but they said you can do it if you raise money for charity so you could have I know but I just thought they'd give me a bib right yeah oh so you were DMing them in the hope that you'd get one for free last year they used one of my photos on their Instagram to promote their event and they did not ask me okay I met Mo Farah you met Mo Farah Mo Farah was sat in that very seat right now yeah and I had my Run Norwich 2024 medal like that yeah and he put it still covering it still covering it when he liked that yeah and he put it on and I had his Olympic gold.
16:32They're small, very small, like, charity organisations they're going to want to share that on. It's exciting for them. And they shared it going, look how cool this is. That's so nice. So why can you use my promotional, my face for promotional benefit? Well, I didn't think it was you. I think it was Mo Farah and the medal, wasn't it? I think they could have cropped you out. They didn't though. Yeah. They didn't though. Yeah. So, I've got beef with them. I don't get your beef. I shouldn't know how to do it. Explain your beef. don't use my face to promote your event if I'm not going to be welcome at the event next year so everyone they've posted pictures of doing the race this year you were welcome at the event I wasn't welcome at the event you were you were you were you were you were you were you were right I paid like every other runner don't do run Norwich do run Norwich but pay for it it is actually a very good event and I loved it and I was glad I couldn't eat it I love the thought that they ban you from next year's for this oh please don't think this will be on the Instagram will it they can't tell this is just a little bit of tongue-in-cheek ribbing.
17:31Show the medal. With a slight undertone of seriousness. No, show the medal. If it's tongue-in-cheek, show the medal. All right, I'll show the medal. No, show this medal. I'll show the medal. Why aren't you showing the medal in your hand? Why are you going on your phone? If this is tongue-in-cheek, promote them. Show the medal from this year. Run Norwich is a great event and it's good fun and they sometimes use your image without asking to promote their event. Please ban him from next year. No, they won't ban me. It'd be so good. They need people like me. They don't. Clearly. to do anything for charity?
18:00Yeah. Refuse to pay and then refuse to raise money for charity. What do you mean people like me? I do loads for charity, mate. I ran, one of my friends, Craig, ran it and he raised£600 for autism. And how many Instagram followers does he have? Doesn't even have Instagram. And he did£600, Jack, can you think of how much money you could have raised? Loads, if I'd have remembered. There's the medal I got last year. Nicer, last year's is nicer. Yeah. The circle. You can see, no, that's the Olympic gold. Right, no offense no offense I don't know much about running I just thought yeah I did think that is massive for Run Norwich and a pure gold yes yeah yeah that would be that one yeah so there you go if you want to do Run Norwich there's a photo of Mo Farah holding it next to me we do a lot of campaign promotional work for Run Norwich to try and promote their event and get it out there you just mone though didn't you about them using your image yeah do you want them to delete it I'll message them in a minute they can use it they can use it they can use it well done Ron Norwich nice well done it's a great event don't go down no no in all seriousness it's a fantastic event I would have loved to have been there so Robbie was there you're worried you're going to be banned Robbie was there I was there how did Robbie get on did he do it completed he's still doing it you know better than last year he did no he's still doing it last year no he did alright did he would you have been gutted if he beat you.
19:28Yeah. You're competitive. Yeah, but you're, if, if, really? Yeah, but. Were you glad Jack didn't do it in case Jack beat you? No, because he would have beat me. Like, as I said, like, Lewis Batch, I knew he was going to do 40-something minutes. Jack, I knew he would have done 40-something minutes. I had in my head, I would have been buzzing with 55 minutes. That was my, like, goal, especially after the last few months. What if Jack did 40 and then everyone was throwing him up going, you're the best, you're the best, and you're, like, away from the crowd, just with your, you're like, I did it too and no one's looking at you they're going you're the best Jack you're the best we love you we love you would you be jealous I would have probably gone fucking lulled he smashed it but also thought he's not good enough for what for people to chuck people up yeah I'd have been fucking insane go on Jack you can get your own Olympic medal you don't need Mo Farah I reckon if I trained every day from now until next I'm not going to do this but I'm just saying hypothetically if I trained every day between now and next run Norwich I could probably do it in about 15 fucking hell no you couldn't 10km 10km in 15 minutes I meant that's 40km an hour I meant 35 very big difference yeah because I had the 5 do you think you're genuinely at 35 that's really quick no I don't think I could do that you're just saying numbers and I'm getting impressed by it I reckon I could do 42 do it then no what's the point in the conversation I've got no ambition to do that Yeah, because you're banned, so you can't do it anyway.
20:53I'm not banned. If I am, good. It's not good, is it? You can be fuming. If you're not. If I'm not, brilliant. You're a winner either way.
21:06I don't want to be banned from that great event, but if I am, it's shit. Then I'm not bothered. What are we doing today? Fucking hell. Well, after all that intelligence, I don't know how to bring the episode back, to be honest. Today. Yeah. when Jack and I were on the plane ready to come back to England you had a whole road to yourself cunt hey boys come on now I was doing a good deed for the ambulance no the airplane balancing it out fucking hell that was something quite funny I've never had this before but basically we had like the door's emergency exit seat and the guy came around and went oh there's no one on that side so do you mind sitting there because you need someone at the doors.
21:49And he went, but this is one of the planes without the slide. So if you do have to open the door in a case of an emergency, you just go on the wing and slide off the wing. What? I've never heard that before. I hate planes. Planes are shit for what they are. Do you know what I mean? Like, why do you have to have the windows, the windows up on takeoff? What, is it going to crash? If my little window's down, you're going to crash. What it is, you have to have the windows up on takeoff, don't you? Yeah. Why is that? Yeah, what the fuck? I hate that. Well, how you guys are kind of how you guys are debating this little idea right now is exactly what this episode is all about things like that basically when we were on the plane we were getting really frustrated with how long it was taking to board it was the weirdest kind of we were both sat on the plane for 20 minutes oh I'm just fucking doing my head in one new person oh no it was really weird we were on the plane before it was meant to take off and then like just one new person would board every three minutes never seen anything like it one person and then you wait what were they doing I don't know what was going on What was your boarding experience like?
22:49We were both on. Yeah, because we were on the first one. But we did this, and Jack messaged Phoebe, and I've never experienced this before, and Phoebe said, on Mythbusters, they did a test to say what the best way of boarding a plane is for kind of efficiency. And then from that... And I got it right, by the way. Can I just flex that? Yeah, you can say what it is. I got it right. What's the most efficient way? If everyone just floods onto a plane, what's the most efficient way to see... Yeah. Don't know what the question is yet. what's the most efficient way people should fill out the seats what order of seating yeah to do it the most quickie into the middle middle out no because how if it's middle out yeah you're filling in the middle seats how are they getting to the outer seats two at two entrances no because you're changing the layout of the plane then aren't you people go on the front and back so i think the answer is they come in yeah in the front right and they go down all the way to the bottom right and then you know how like so you've got the back row of seats right so imagine it like this you've got one two three aisle right oh i'm getting lost again no no no no so sorry right so you've got the back row of seats yeah one two three the window seat is number one right yeah one two three aisle four five six yes yeah yeah six is a window seat yeah yeah so i think the people come in two at a time go right down to the bottom row someone takes seat one someone takes seat six yeah i get you then the next one's come in but stop a row before one six next one's one six so then you get all the one and the six fill up but then people if i'm sat on five and you're in six i've got to wait for everyone else to go before i come and sit next to you yeah is it not better just to do it in blocks.
24:39All the back seats. One, six, two, five, three, four, and then one, six, two, five, probably like that then. I think my method is a lot quicker. No, you're changing the entire... Open the back door. Yeah. Say the middle seat's 30 and do your method, but you're sort of one and two are meeting in the middle. Oh, hello. Well, look, I like the way you're both debating this. Because of this conversation, this unlocked like my childhood. Mythbusters is like one of my favourite shows.
25:12Mythbusters was like one of my favourite shows You'd never seen it have you? Have you ever heard of Mythbusters? I've heard of it mate Loved it yeah So it's basically like a fun science show But like you get to just watch them blow shit up Yeah All the time What was that one with Richard Hammond? Brainiac Testry Baby yeah Yeah Brainiac was good as well But this is like an American Can we do Brainiac? No because I've already I've planned a full Mythbusters episode Brilliant wasn't it? Walking in yogurt Oh my god I was just thinking what you did walking on the custard in the swimming pool that was a brilliant episode we can do a Brainiac episode should we do it now don't know that yeah John Tickle he's the guy doing the experiments in that yes he is he was in Big Brother he only swims in the custard mate okay now he's a good guy well you can do a Brainiac one if you want yeah go on then I've not planned on so I assume you have no no we just wanted does it float what what would what float they just put stuff in water didn't they yeah go on test me does it float um Um, uh, this bottle.
26:08No. Yes, it would. Because it's got some oxygen in it. Next. Not air. It's not one I'll get wrong here. Rugby ball. Yeah, float. Got air in it. I can't say if you got them right or not. No, but I'm telling you. As a podcast. I'm right. I'm right. You enjoying this at home? Are you enjoying it? No, I'm not doing it. Okay, let's see your one then. Okay, so Mythbusters. It'll have to beat that. Well, okay, I'll try my best. So Mythbusters. Did you know that psoriatic arthritis may progress over time and could cause permanent joint damage if left untreated?

27:41Donna Born in Roma Eau de Parfum is a feminine fragrance featuring juicy blackcurrant, central jasmine, woody cashmere, and warm vanilla. Its masculine counterpart, Romo Born in Roma Eau de Toilette, has notes of fresh violet leaf, aromatic sage, green vetiver, spicy ginger and mineral salt shop at Macy's.com it was hosted by two men Adam Savage and Jamie Heineman Savage and Heine yeah you can call them that if you want can we have our I call them science nicknames well that's just their name yeah but we want to call science nicknames okay what do you want your name to be Stiffbusters because we're stiff and we'll bust your ass Stiffbusters I don't like I don't like Stiffbusters send that to Danny D though he's got an episode he's got a thing there Or what about the myth bashers?
28:33We're bashing the myths then. We're the myth bashers. It's just the same as busters. Yeah, you're just copying the same thing. The myth fuckers. Okay. What about the change the word myth to like theory or something? Because then you're still in the same... Theory slammers. We're the theory slammers. Yes. Yeah, okay. I hate it. I think it's cringy. So Adam and Jamie are like two special effects experts. They used to work on movies all the time. they'd work in TV adverts and they'd do all cool shit on these things. So then they created a TV show where they'd basically be, they'd get a myth and they'd test it in whatever way they can basically say, is it confirmed or is it not possible, basically.
29:13So I've got a few. The first one I've got is one we've discussed on Happy Hour before. So I thought we'll tie it all in together. Do you know if they're true or not at the end? I've got the answer of all of them. Oh, and then we can say how we think. So what was this fun? So the way this is going to work, so I'm hoping it works as an audio show because obviously when you're watching it, you get to watch them blow shit up. I'm just going to tell you, they blew something up. Yeah, and we'll picture it. We'll imagine it. Everyone's got to use their imagination in this episode quite well. We couldn't see you running, but we knew you'd done that.
29:44True. Yeah. True. Not a nice imagination, though. No, but we're seeing you on the plane. We're just imagining that up and down. Yeah. Good. So I'm going to give you the myth. And I'm going to see if you guys can figure out... Theory, please. Theory. I'll give you the theory. And then I'd like you guys to tell me if you think it's plausible. I'd like you both to give me your own idea of how you think you'd test it. And then I've written down essentially a step-by-step of how they did it. And then throughout those, I'll ask you a couple of times whether you think parts work as well. Nice. It's like school.
30:14It's going to be a fun science episode. Hopefully there are some funny bits in there and it's not just learning. Can I do a jingle? Do you have a jingle ready? Fun science, fun science, fun science. It's the science and fun. Do you know what? That was shit. But it wasn't that shit. That was catchy. That was, that's already a thing. Is it a bit like the countdown? Yeah, it is. There's nothing like it. It's literally, somebody's got a jingle called fun science. Charlie Sokola. Oh, it's already a thing. And you've just slagged them off. I don't know if they say the last bit Jack said. It's the science that's fun.
30:57I honestly thought you'd just come up with something really sick. And then I said it was shit. So now you're saying it to Charlie, really? Sorry. Moving on, though. So the first one I thought would tie in Mythbusters and Happy Hour. You weren't on the episode, I don't believe, but on World's Worst Invention. Remember that episode? Do fondly. I told you about the Ming Dynasty astronaut. Yeah, I liked it. This is a man who supposedly, back in the 15th century, He was the first ever person to fly himself to space and he used a chair with rockets strapped to it. Okay. So, according to the thing, it's a Chinese astrologer named Wan Hu who strapped 47 fireworks around a chair, shot him...
31:37Who? No, I'm asking you. So good. That's so good. Borderline though, isn't it? That's his actual name. The question is... It's borderline. Yeah, sorry. we're on the left side of the table we're cheeky we're cheeky everywhere the question is can a firework powered chair shoot a human into space now don't know where your head's at also what's your nickname sorry what's your nickname because we're we're the theory slammers can I be called slam jar yeah I'll just just slam slam uh yeah if you like what bunson booner like benson boon yeah but No, Bunsen burner, which is a science thing. She's saying Boona because it's an Indian meal.
32:24That's great, Fi. Where's Bunsen burner? Bunsen burner's a science thing. This is a science show. This is more higher level. Oh, Bunsen burner's too low. Okay. It's got a word slam in it, though, because it's fun. It has to. Yeah. Slamwise Ganji, Lord of the Rings character. Good. And he's short and a hobbit like me. Is that good? Ganji, Gandhi. Slamwise Gandhi.
32:52Okay, that's genius. Okay, are you just going to call him Slamwise? Slamwise, yeah. And you're Slamjar? Slamwise. Slamwise and Slamjar. Slamwise Gandhi. Okay, that's my favourite thing I've ever heard. I'm actually going to cry. That's so good. Slamwise Gandhi. Right. Okay, so question is, can a firework power chair shoot a human into space? Right. Well, it's going to have to be a fucking big firework. Can't be a capra wheel. It just says there's 47 fireworks. My issue with this is fireworks don't go into space. They don't go that high. Right. That's if they're designed to blow up. You still use...
33:30It's still the... I can't help, can I? Well, so you can get a firework that can go like miles. A firework's essentially just a rocket, isn't it? Not into space, though. If it's rocket chair, yeah, firework chair, I'm saying that can't... I don't think space is as far as you think it is. Really? I'm not saying he landed on the moon. I'm not saying he land on the moon, but did he leave the ozone? Nah, fireworks don't leave the ozone, mate. My local village doesn't. They're not breaking the ozone layer. Yeah, but you're doing your shit fireworks. These are fireworks specifically designed to shoot this man into space.
34:03Right. I need to get my head around the fact that the fireworks I've seen at Debenham Fireworks Night don't go into space. Some do. Do they? Are you telling me that? No, but he's saying, I think he's saying you could, though. There's potential for them. All I'm asking is, do you think it's possible? You need to shut the fuck up, mate. Really? Because we're theorising. Sorry, slam job. We're theorising. How many times... The teachers don't even interrupt all the time. This can't happen. Yeah, but Alfie, imagine... So he's saying no. No, this can't happen. Just sip it. It would go... Just sip it, right?
34:33I'm picturing it. It's like fizzing up. It's fizzing up. There's a Catherine wheel. And then it... No, why would you use a Catherine wheel? Why the fuck do you keep talking? Because you're doing my head in. Why is he having a go at the Catherine wheel? We're theorising. It's fun while we're doing our science. We're coming to... This is us showing our workings out. We'll come to you when we've worked it out, Mr. White. If Einstein said about the Catherine wheel, you'd have gone, that's interesting. Why has he brought up the Catherine wheel? Yeah, is he thinking outside the box? I'm speaking to thick cunts, not Einstein.
35:01We'll come to you when we've come to our conclusion. Disgusting. Imagine if you... Alfie, if you made a rocket or a firework, but it was like 100 fireworks in one. Yeah. Could that get a bit further? Would they not... I feel like it could carry more weight, but could it go further? Don't they all just go the same? What if you make it longer? This guy needs to shut up before I go mental. Yeah, yeah. All right? Right now, you're like the fucking Microsoft paperclip in the corner of the... Oh, do you need help? Have you thought about saving your work? We're working on it. Okay, I'll just not say a word until you're ready to go.
35:37Please do. That's perfect. That's exactly what we want to happen right now. Right. He's nailed that. He's got it. One big firework strapped to the chair for me is more plausible because that's like a big rocket. Yeah. These little ones. But a firework, I imagine the gunpowder's inside the firework, right? So the person can't go in the firework. The person has to go on top of the firework, right? So therefore it's not. He's making faces. I'm going to go fucking insane in a minute. Why was anyone ever thinking a guy would go inside a firework? Well, you're saying it's basically the same thing as a rocket.
36:17I'm going, well, it's not, is it? Because in a rocket, you'd go inside a rocket. That was a great point, Jack. Yeah. Not all rockets. Rockets can be tiny. Tell us the fucking answer. Why do you know so much about rockets? Yeah. What? Why do I know? Because I've done all the fucking research for the episode. Stop giving us clues, then. Okay, do you think it's possible? My question is, do you think it's possible? We are theorising. I'm theorising with Slamwise Gandhi. It might have been a little bit silly for Jack to suggest that someone could get in the firework but we're theorising mate we're throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks We're seeing an apple fall from a tree and going why has that happened I just needed a simple yes or no Maybe you could get in the apple Do you think it's possible That's stupid again but I'm theorising Do you think it's possible for a firework power chair to shoot to space No it's not possible it doesn't generate enough power There's no way on this planet that could happen I like that that was good that was good okay secondly then I don't know what I've done there but apparently that's good you just said no way on this planet when we're talking about going to space ah right you didn't mean to do it yeah I meant that fuck me this is going to be a long episode secondly how would you go about testing whether it is possible well we that's what we're doing now we're thinking about it now I'm asking you that question I was only asking if you think it's possible now I'd like to know what's your test I would get Are you working as a team as well, or are you doing separate tests?
37:37Do you work together on this one? Do you mind if I just sort of go for it? I can tell you, in Mythbusters, every now and then, when they both have different ideas, Adam and Jamie, they will do separate tests to see who works better. I've got an idea. I'm getting a big fucking... The biggest firework you can imagine, I'm getting Mr. Beast to make it, because he's the one who can do it bigger and better than anyone. And I'm strapping Lee Gill to that. Why? Weighs the less. A man that weighs... The way he's the less. Why don't you pick a kid? No, because he's got to consent to it. So I've got to go an adult that's not going to weigh as much as me.
38:14Okay. There's quite a few. I feel like this is wrong. I also feel like it's wrong. All right. Well, I'm trying to think. He's theorising. I'm theorising. Who else can I ask? Someone who's... Because, like, let's be honest. Mr. Big Tom Davis is not going to... The... Fee? Fee? Who weighs more? Fee or Lee? He's theorising again about things that are pointless. No, I think Lee. Send him up. Okay, you send him legal up. Yeah. You need to tell me the rest of what you're doing. On a big rocket. On a firework. On a big firework. I'm getting all the fireworks in LA, strapping them together. And he's on a chair.
38:56Who's on a chair? Because the question is can a firework powered chair be sent to space? chair really really like a wicker chair weightless okay and sound safe around fire it's made of wood really oh he's not making it back okay but it's literally send one up sort of yeah but and then seeing if that works okay what about you are is that uh i'll probably use a mannequin yeah safe um so no one dies yeah and then have it as the average weight of i don't know a human and then he's nodding. Yeah. And I really, that, I'm now completely on his side. Getting validated. That nodding feels so good to get the nod.
39:39No, it doesn't. Fucking hell, mate. Thank you, by the way. But what the average weight of a human is a what? A me-shaped human? No, the average. No, you are well above, son. You are above. It's going to weigh a lot less than you, son. We're going more like, I reckon like 80 kilos. Yeah. Yeah. And then I'm just going to, get were there any like firework specific occasions or can they be any so i can tell you how they tested it in a minute but the only the only thing they know is there's 47 fireworks and it was done in the 15th century in china i'd strap them i'd have the chair as not your conventional chair it would look more like a disc and then i would strap have all the fireworks around this disc, light them, sprint off, up they go.
40:29Okay. So what they did, they had some... That sounds so clever then with the whole disc. I wasn't bad. I was talking out my ass. So they actually did two tests for this. The first one... Both of ours are probably... The first one, they made their own fireworks that would replicate those that they think they could have made in 15th century China. So they got bamboo, cut it down into the small fireworks, and then filled them of gunpowder to make their own fireworks essentially. Yeah. He's theorising don't laugh out. How would they make that back then? What do you mean? How would they have gunpowder?
41:03You must have been so annoying in school breaking everything. I'm asking that. No it's great theorising. I haven't done the research into gunpowder's origins. Maybe you should have then. Sorry. How would they have made gunpowder? They're going to fucking mark you down next time let me tell you. So they do the 47 fireworks made of bamboo. Why 47? Okay. Just use 50. Remember, it's a list. That's how many it was in the story. I know, that we really got. They're trying to replicate the whole point of Mythbusters as could what they say happened actually happen. Got you. So they have to try and make it as similar to the original as possible.
41:34I'm on board. So they strapped 47 bamboo rockets to a chair that Adam made himself. That looks a bit like one that would be a throne in the Chinese dynasty to try and replicate what that would have been, the chair, what he would have been on. But they made a second chair, exactly the same, and strapped 47 modern-day, powerful, 50-pound thrust, 12-inch long rockets to it. So just in case the Chinese-built super-efficient rockets that we didn't know about. Wow. Okay? So they put their crash test dummy. Thank you. They have a crash test dummy called Buster. Nice. Myth Buster's yours. I wouldn't name them.
42:10Don't humanise them. Well, you should give them the same name as the other guy. Ming. What? Ming. Wanhu. I didn't guess the name. Fucking hell, son. Let him say the name again. No, it's because it was the Ming Dynasty. Stop saying Ming. No, it's because it was the Ming Dynasty. Thank God that Ming had been mentioned before. Their crash test dummy is a crash test dummy they use through all of their tests. And it's called Buster because they're the Myth Busters. Clever. Well, we're the theory slammers. So yours would be called Slammer. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Sam. Yeah. And then they put him on the chair with 70 pounds of gunpowder in these rockets.
42:45What are your predictions for chair number one with the bamboo fireworks? Died quick. Blew up on the ground, didn't even take off. Did not work. Huge explosion. The chair didn't move at all. The dummy was thrown from the chair and completely melted. Surely these smart fuckers that are doing this are going to know as they're setting it alight, that's not going through space. It's TV, isn't it? They're thinking this is going to look great. Yeah, fair enough. But that one, they were like, yeah, that would be the one, they're not going to work. Yeah, yeah. However, on chair number two, 47 modern rockets could give 2 ,500 pounds of thrust.
43:18Buster only weighed£180 so you've got £2 ,300 extra here so they were hopeful on the second one predictions? didn't get high enough it went as high as an oak tree that's beautiful beautiful man it managed to go up imagine if that was right the height of an oak tree like they're all the same height it went up about two foot and flipped over and crashed back down because they couldn't get it to balance right but that was enough of a test for the Mythbusters to say that it wouldn't be possible even if it worked perfectly, flew perfectly upright, the rocket would have to get to 17 ,800 miles per hour to get into orbit so myth one is slammed they say busted on the show obviously but I did that for you theory slammed you ready for another?
44:10we're going to get every single one of these right to the inch the next one's interesting, I like this one it's called Killer Deck can an ordinary playing card be turned into an instrument of death and kill somebody with a powerful throw? Yes. I actually think this could be possible, but let's talk about it. That's a theory. Yeah, that's a theory. Do you think it's possible, question one? I don't want to know how you'd do it. It's just whether you think it's feasible. Let's work backwards, right? So a bullet could, yeah? A bullet could. We don't need to work that far backwards. Dinosaurs could as well.
44:44No, so a bullet shooting a bullet. Yeah, nice. Shoot, let's move it. Let's change it. What is the point in this method? Wait, an ice. A bit of ice. An ice. An ice. A bit of ice could kill someone, right? Yes. Right. If you threw a really sharp bit of ice at someone, that would act as an arrow, right? Weirdly, one of the tests they did is, could an icicle kill you if it fell? Yeah, well, we'll find that out in a later episode, I'm sure. I haven't searched it yet, so not today. So ice, if you threw a thin, paper thin bit of ice at someone, you could cut cut their throat couldn't you you could cut their throat so that's then one more step playing card could that cut someone's we might as well i've just started with the playing card is what i was saying that whole time because i'm now no closer to learn about the playing card but you're picturing the ice now i know and that's clouding my judgment because now i'm thinking of ice when i want to be thinking of the playing card what did the ice look all right pretend I didn't say any of that.
45:44Yes. Right. Can we cut that? No. No, that's it. Because that's all part of the theory. Yes. So you've got a playing card. Does it matter what the playing card is? It just says an ordinary playing card. Let's make it the Joker. Oh, I thought you meant like what it's made of or anything. I don't care what picture card it is or face. It could be a seven. So obviously we're cutting this sharp, aren't we? No, ordinary playing card. No adjustments to the card itself. Oh, no, it can't happen, no. It's a playing card. No, I reckon it could though. If you stood there with your Adam's apple out and you got someone to throw that playing card.
46:19Because it happens in movies a lot, doesn't it? Like Gambit. I'm just going to say no. I think it could. I think it could. I think if you got someone really strong, Tom Aspinall, to throw that card at you, it'd act like a Chinese Death Star. Okay, so Jack's saying yes, Alfie's saying no. We need to come together though. No, you can go separately on this one. They argue a lot on the show. It's fine. They just come together at the end when they get their answer. How would you go about testing it? Oh, you went separate on that. I think you have to test it separately on this one as well. Keep things interesting.
46:49What's what I've got to think in my mind? Dynamo. Dynamo, got a job for you, mate. Yeah. Here he comes. I'm setting up a mannequin again or a material that resembles the same thickness as the human skin. Like a pig? And I'm chucking stuff into it. I don't know, watermelon? No way. No, not watermelon. It would be a stupid suggestion. Are you looking at him and getting like little... No, only up until the watermelon. Right. I would get human skin thickness something and just chuck cards at it from variable distances. Yeah, I'd chuck a Polaroid. I think that'd be similar to a card. No, but we want an ordinary playing card.
47:29We don't care about anything other than the deck of cards. I'd chuck a card at a pig. You'd do it personally? Yeah. Okay. If you kill the pig, sorry. Oh, you're doing a live pig. I need to know it's going to kill it. They've got thick skin. What? Pigs got the same skin as us? Have you had crackling? Yes, cooked. We'd have crackling if we cooked our arms. Okay, good theory again. Is that on there? Weirdly, I didn't do the research on human skin either. So before they even started this one, they brought in an expert called Ricky Jay who can throw playing cards almost 200 feet. He's that good. That's the size of two football fields.
48:09Is it? One football field. I don't know. How many oak trees? Shall I find out? Yeah. I'll find out how big the pitch. Make sure it's soccer. Yeah. Right. Hello, Pete. Hello, Pete. How big is the pitch at Wembley in feet? Hi there. So Wembley's pitch is pretty sizable. It's about 115 yards long. Sounds well like a human. 575 yards wide. In feet, that's roughly 345 feet by 225 feet. So he can throw over half the pitch. That sounds well realistic Like you're on the phone to someone Yeah that's my AI guy He's picked up the way I talk and we chat a lot He was a little Norfolk Hi there No he said something really Norfolk there That's creepy So yeah so he can throw it from goal line to over halfway Just a regular playing card Wow So they brought him in And he's so accurate with it as well That Adam put a cigarette in his mouth And lifted his head up like that and he launched a playing card and it chopped the cigarette from the goal to the halfway?
49:13No, not for that one, but he could throw it easily from here and just hit things and he could blow out a candle with it. He's proper good at it. Dynamo could probably do it. He also wrote a book called Cards as Weapons, which is a study of self-defense with ordinary playing cards. So he might have been the guy who created this myth in the first place. People are buying books about defending themselves with cards. Why would you buy that book when you've got other stuff? You could use the book. That'd be more, wouldn't it? Yeah. Not if you get well good at it like this guy. Maybe it's like a tongue-in-cheek book.
49:47Yeah. Not an actual how to hurt people. So this one started. Adam created a bionic arm to throw cards, but they went against each other on this one like you two did. And Jamie created a mini baseball pitching machine. So you know the machines that you put a football in and it launches it, like the wheels? He created one like that. So Adams was like a, an arm robotic arm that would start like that, holding the card, like a bent arm, snap, hit a wall and it launched the card out. And then Jamie's was just this like football machine. Like one of them new Uno things with a little machine in the corner that spits the cards out.
50:22Yeah. Imagine that, but super powered. Yeah. Adams idea with the arm didn't work at all. So you're like the Adam in this situation. What? The card didn't fly or what? Just wouldn't. Yeah. It wouldn't launch forwards at all. Jamie's first attempt, the wheels would spin at 30 ,000 RPM and it could throw a playing card at 70 miles per hour. That'd kill you. That's got to kill you. But the wheels broke because it couldn't handle the speed and the friction. The second machine used metal wheels. It could throw the playing card at 150 miles per hour. What? So to test if it could be possible to cause an injury to a human, you'll like this, Alfie.
50:58They used a block of ballistics gel. What's that? So it's used to simulate the effects of bullet wounds in animal muscle and tissue. So it's the same kind of consistency of what it would be to go through human skin and muscle. Then before they started checking on the cards, they used multiple weapons to compare the damage that the card could make. They shot it with a crossbow. How far into the gel? We're going in inches. How far into the gel? It's a huge block of gel. How far into the gel to be a crossbow could shoot? I reckon seven inches.
51:3320 inches. Wow. Crossbows, powerful things. That's why they would kill you. Yeah. Pellet gun next. Pellet gun, three inch. Not even penetrated. Bounced out. I think American pellet guns isn't a BB gun. I think it's more like an air rifle. I was thinking of a BB gun. 35 inches. No way. Seven inches. Oh, okay. Arrow stronger. I said three inches. Basically the same. Adam, one of the guys on Mythbusters, when he was 10, loved playing cards, and he taught himself to launch them, so he was well good at it in the show. He'd be aiming at the targets and stuff. He managed to get it in a quarter of an inch.
52:08So literally going into that. That's the average man throw then, yeah? Yeah, and he's decent at it. The killer deck, throwing him at 150 miles per hour, how many inches do you think it went into the gel? All the way out. Better than a crossbow. No, I think five inches. Evening, by his remorse. Buy a new car? I'll be moving in. Let's get started. Uh, sorry, I think there's been a mistake. I bought it from Carvana. You what? Yeah, great price. I even have seven days to love it or return it. Terms and more at AppleCard.com. so that would be definitely do some damage I don't even think that maybe it bounced off half an inch and what did you get it in? quarter of an inch so it's twice as good as a human throw but this card's launching at 150 miles per hour and it only went half an inch in and at this point Jamie was so certain that the playing card wouldn't cause any damage no he stood in front of the target oh my god they used the machine twice on him shooting the cards at him 150 miles per hour.
54:25Gave him two small paper cuts. Wow. Is that all? Myth. Slam. But, but, but, but. Oh, you can't. No, no, no. I might have. So where did he get hit? One in the belly. Yeah. One in the arm. Right. Okay. You're not going to die even if you have your arm chopped off. You're right. So what about the throat? If you cut half an inch in your throat, you're dead. No. I want to see Jamie do that, the little fucking dweeb. well if the cut got infected the theory slammer's gonna have Mythbusters beef yeah get his throat in front of it yeah but it was only a paper cut it didn't go a quarter of an inch into his skin well so why are you testing it on that weird gelatin shit then if it's not even gonna do the same you're fuming and I understand it Myth slammed but Jack thought it could happen so you were right there Alfie I'm not proud of it we don't get the point no we do get the point I want to give my point to what was your name again?
55:24Slam Jar. Slam Jar. Slam Jar. Very, very nice of you, Slam Wess. I'm happy with the point. I've worked hard for that. Okay, we ready for another one? We'll do a quick and easy one here. Okay. Running in the rain. Yeah. Is it better to run in the rain or to walk in the rain? Depends what you want to do. Are you doing a 5k? No, so you're going to a destination. Do you get more wet? Oh, okay. Now you're changing the question. Say, for instance, you've got to go home. If you do that same walk twice, but one time you walk, one time you run. Are you more wet when you ran home or when you walked home?
55:57Obviously, you get home quicker. It's a podcast. You've got to hear us, haven't you? No, whispering would be mental. But I don't want to hear you. I'm not against you. Feels like it. Okay, first. You're insisting on sitting on that side of the table today. Yeah. So the myth is that you stay drier if you run in the rain. Can you dodge the rain is what you're asking me. No, not personal. Well, that's the right. I'm going to tell him that's rubbish. I think if you walk, you spend twice as long in the rain, therefore you get twice X wet. Let me ask you this. I'm running, right? Am I hitting more raindrops running?
56:37No, because you're running, right? You're sprinting, right? The rain is falling at the same speed. So you're actually just in the rain less than half. Am I hitting it harder, though? So why would that matter, though? The drops are splashing more on my head. Is that going to make you more wet? I don't know, I'm theorising. So if one single raindrop came now and hit you on the head and another raindrop came and you headed it, Maguire slab headed it, bang, would that second one make you more wet?
57:07I'm thinking something in my head and I'm not smart enough to articulate it. Say it, maybe we can help you. I'm walking in the rain, right? Yeah. And I'm going pretty slow. there's these raindrops are going on me right at each step yeah if i'm running and i'm no it's the same distance if i'm running for some reason in my head i feel like i'm hitting more raindrops and i don't know why that is i think i can explain what you're trying to say yeah i'm not going to say anything about this you're picturing rain falling straight down yeah so when you walk it's only going to hit your shoulders and your head and the rest of it's falling in front of you because you're walking.
57:46If you start running, you're getting to that rain faster. You're also going to get it on your front. That's what you're trying to say. Yeah. Okay. No. That is very smart. It kind of was. Yeah. Imagine 100 tennis balls falling at the same time. This is good, man. Are you fucking on a roll here? Yeah. You're walking. Yeah. A lot more is going to hit you because you're under the tennis balls longer. If you run through the tennis balls, but they're dropping at the same time, less are going to hit you because you're under it for less duration. But aren't you covering the same distance and it's all rain?
58:27Always the same distance, yeah. That's the point of this. But you're in it less. Less. You're in it for less. Yeah. So do you think... So you stay drier if you run in the rain, true or false? Don't think... Once you're wet, you're wet. You're wet. Yeah, there's a limit to how wet you can get. Once you're soaked through, it's over Stevie. How often are you soaked through? You normally get home before being soaked through, don't you? Read me the statement again. The myth is that you stay drier if you run in the rain. So the theory is you get home quicker and you dodge the rain. I agree with it. Let's go with that.
59:02Okay, so how would you test it? Run home in the rain. You can walk. See who needs a towel when we get back home. Okay. Are you the same? no I would this is going to sound insane I would wear some sort of suit that absorbs water and I would do two have two suits of the same thing and I'd run through the nod I'm getting is insane right you need to stop giving smiling this feels so good let me have it I want you to talk I'm just asking him to shut the fuck out I didn't say anything. Can you encourage nodding? No, I don't want to. But it feels good when he's nodding at me. And he's on your team. How good would it feel?
59:47He's doing a Fabrizio right now. He's here we're going here. You're right, you're right. When you say it and he goes, you're bang on. Yeah, you're right. Shut up. Carry on, Alf. Two suits, same suit, water absorbent. I'm in a warehouse and it simulates rain. And I walk. He is still doing it. He can't stop, can he? He can't stop. He's got to be involved. Sometimes. I was loving it 30 seconds ago. Have you seen Fabrizio? Here we goes. I've been fucking stinky recently. I can't express how right this one isn't. Yeah, we're getting that. You're implying it. You know what I'm going to say? I'd walk through it.
1:00:22I'd put the other suit on run for it, then wring out the water and measure the water. How do you know the suits are exactly the same style? It's probably two of the same suit. They're made too. Yeah, but one might just have more absorby bits. We can't say that for everyone. How are you testing how wet each one is? The water's been absorbed. I'd then, how do I, I'm trying to think almost stupidly and simply so that I get it right. I'd then, how do you get the water out of the suit, you're saying? No, just how do you know how much water is in the suit? Bring it into a bucket. Yeah, like I'd then be in a big container and.
1:00:58Yeah. What are you fucking doing here? I don't know, but I now hate it because he's shaking his head and that feels awful. You don't want to know either way. Give your answer, get the. No, you're right. How would you measure it? how would you measure it see I'm thinking it's like a sponge suit I'm waiting lightening the mood and how does that work you'd weigh the suits whatever one weighs more has more water in it that's fuck mate we did that together we did that together when do you weigh the suit he loves us being wrong when you get home no I'm trying to help when you get back as soon as you get back a second no but you're not home you're in Alfie's simulated The other side.
1:01:40You run onto the scales. You just weigh it then. Should you weigh it before the test as well? Yeah, of course you should. Oh my God. Obviously we're weighing it before the test. Didn't care, did you? What, so we're just going 80 kilograms. Yeah. What does that mean? No, because... No, because... He thinks it's stupid. Obviously we're weighing before. No, what he actually said is you'll weigh both rain and walk one and whichever one's heavier is the answer. Yeah, but we're starting on scales that's weighed us. Oh, you're weighing yourself in the scale. yeah no just the suit it really doesn't matter does it or me and the suit or me and i don't know because what if i've burnt calories doing the walk i'll be honest i stopped listening yeah it's fine okay this is what they did where we're at now it's confusing they did they did pretty much exactly what you said yeah so they did controlled conditions using essentially like a huge pipe that was like sprinklers to make sure the rain's always exactly the same to make it fair because if you run it two different times outside the wind's going to affect that there's too many variables so did exactly what alfie said with a hundred foot long pipes with sprinklers and in a hundred foot long course they wore dry overalls exactly this alfie and they would have weighed them wouldn't they weighed just the overalls not whilst wearing them just the overalls put them on walked through the rain and then ran through the rain and they weighed them before and after to get the difference of grams walking so you're saying it's gonna weigh more better to run rain more yeah after walking 18 grams of water it took on in 100 foot that's not as much as I thought that's not much is it no
1:03:18running which they managed to do that same distance in like half the time guarantee it's less 28 grams of water wow myth slammed why it's better to walk in the rain no no I know but why why exactly that it's all hitting you from way more positions because when you're walking in the rain a lot of the rain misses you it is mainly going here obviously if there's no wind so it's hard to say with wind when I run in the rain as well I come home a lot more soaked than when I walk in the rain why didn't you say that before you've done the test you've done it you've done this test I just thought about it like I get that bit where like it sticks to my body whereas I don't get that when I walk in the rain so you had the answer in there already I had the answer in there you've slammed this theory before Yeah, but a good scientist never rests on his laurels.
1:04:07He has both laurels and see which ones. What are laurels? What are laurels? Theories. Don't rest on your theories, mate. What is a laurel? I don't know. Why do you keep saying Yanni? I don't get it. What? I don't know what's just happened. I don't know. Do you not remember that old toy that used to... Is it saying Yanni or laurel? No. Yanni, laurel, yeah. that's a brilliant toy oh was it like a blue and gold white yeah that's such a nice reference it was brilliant joke sorry mate if I had remembered that at the time I would have got a big laugh yeah fair enough there we go so another one slams slams should we do one more yeah bending bullets wow this one's taken from the 2008 movie wanted have you seen it I used to love that I love that movie have you seen that my favourite movie is that weird what did you just say is that your favourite movie no what did you just say Timberlake why because he's in that film no he's not is this where you got time in your arm no that's time I thought you meant Timberlake as in the bloody rapper I was like he's mistaken Morgan Free no no no no this is Angelina Jolie James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman you wouldn't like it because it couldn't happen in the real world oh so you've just told us an answer then you've just told us No, I haven't.
1:05:33The film couldn't happen in the real world. It's about bending bullets. No, it's not that. It's all the other stuff. There's a lot of stuff that happens in it. They can go in water that basically heals them the same day. It's wax. There's a lot of weird stuff. There we go. It was his favourite film. And seawater does heal a Veruca quickly. Slammed. No, not slammed. That one's confirmed. Yeah, right. According to you. So, in this film, they're able to swing their arms at such a speed that the bullet can bend around corners to hit a target. the question is, is it possible to curve a bullet after it leaves the gun?
1:06:08Can I test this with a ring? I'm going to throw a ring now. Don't throw your ring. You spent like 30 quid on that. I'm not going to hurt it. I just, I want to throw this. Are you going to be able to see? How are you going to see that? It's going to move at way too much speed. Yeah, but we want to see if it bends in the air. If you want to test the theory, do it, no. Right, no, let's just see if I'm, see if it spins in the air. almost in the bin it did it though it bent in the air didn't it yeah but you almost like skim in so if you got a gun and you flick that bullet out is it going to go and also don't all bullets bend I don't know don't all bullets bend on fortnight if you get a snipe out you have to put it above them so it bends that's dropping because of gravity but I'm saying can you bend it around a corner oh what literally make it go 90 degree bend no not 90 degrees but could it like somewhere in the middle of the two things could I from here from here could I shoot like there and hit Fee for instance behind that wall nah you're mad well maybe not that accurate but like over time other than ignoring gravity could you bend a bullet left and right rather than down because it's going to drop over a mile is the bullet bent no it like is the bullet like does the bullet look straight like that or has the bullet got a curve in it bullet's normal it's a bullet normal bullet not sure I get a curved bullet into a gun, it wouldn't fire.
1:07:29Curve gun. Nothing wrong with that. This is good. This is good. Nothing wrong with that. A bit of curve in your gun is no problem. Do you think it's possible? I think it's not, no. I think it's absolutely impossible. So you're saying no matter how you fire a gun, that bullet's just going perfectly straight from the moment it leaves the barrel. What about, I'm on a bouncy castle, I've got a gun, and I'm doing a flip as I shoot. if that's how you want to potentially test it or a trampoline probably more girth more not girth bouncy girls have more girth than trampolines no what's it more bounce is it bounce bounce closing the title so you're flipping so is this your you're saying no it can't do it and then your way to test it is to flip on a trampoline like that so in the film it's very much like the chair would help you know so imagine like I've got the gun behind me and I'm spinning as fast as possible and at that point I would shoot it and I could bend it around the corner would it not just come out straight anyway well you've seen the film I think it's not real and the way I would test it is a machine that flings an arm like an arm really fast yeah I would get a strong man on a bounty castle to flip while he's shooting.
1:09:04Okay. So on this one, firstly, they tried to test it themselves. So there's three other people who work. So there's the main two, Jamie and Adam, and then they've got three others who are Cary Grant and Torrey. They each took turns to fire a bullet themselves whilst flinging their arm from side to front as quickly as possible. How can they measure that? whatever it bends. How can they measure the curvature of the bullet then? So they fire it and they've got a target in front of them. And then when they're firing it, in this case, it was really easy because as they're shooting, they're wanting to hit the target in front of them.
1:09:42So they're having to shoot before the target. So if they manage to hit it, they know they've done it, but they've got slow motion cameras and they can see where the bullet's going. So as they fire, when all three of them did it, the bullet never went anywhere near the target. it just went perfectly straight from wherever they actually pulled the trigger. So the bullets will go nowhere near. Yeah? I've got it. I know how you do it. I know how you do it. Go on, go on, go on. Massive, massive industrial-sized fans. Okay. Built into the roof of a warehouse, right? This is genius. You shoot the bullet while the fans are there.
1:10:15So it's like gravity, but you're manipulating it. You can blow a bullet with wind. Blow a bullet with wind. That's a whole other thing, but I'd love to know if that's possible now. Imagine they put huge fans that were super powerful on the side of the wall, and they shoot that way, and the target's over there. How far is that doable? I like it. Send it in. I'll send it in. They don't do the show anymore, but I'll send it in. Why don't they bring it back to you these days? I don't know. Adam's got his own YouTube channel. He's got seven million subscribers. Get him on here. He's in America, though.
1:10:49Is he American? Yeah, they're better. I didn't know they were American. What's that mean? I have gone off them massively My Jack And if we've got any American listeners I'll also have gone off you They were American before this episode I know but now I know they are I apologise The next step after they realised They couldn't do it themselves They created Alfie's gun slinging Robot arm He just said it's like That's why I've been so good And the arm replicates the exact movement and max speed that a human could do the arm swings and shoots the bullet through multiple sheets of paper so you asked on this one how do they know it's straight they've got like a sheet of like a huge sheet of paper oh it's bloody clever then a big gap like maybe five foot gap another huge sheet of paper five foot gap and say like there's five sheets over like 25 foot and then when the bullet shoots through they go to the final hole shoot a laser through it and if that laser manages to go back to the first hole we know it's not curved at all because that's a perfectly straight line because the laser obviously hasn't bent.
1:11:54So they do that. It goes through the first one, goes through all of them, and they can see the laser. So the arm can't do it. The robot arm tries it a few times, all completely straight as well. But in the movie, the characters are kind of like superhuman, aren't they? They're not just basic humans. So they ramp up the speed of the robot arm to replicate the superhuman's strength and speed. What do you think happens with that? Mad fast I just shoot straight Just shoot straight I've got a feeling All completely straight Myth Slammed Slammed But not fun slammed No Not fun slammed It's quite a boring one That one No it was a No in terms of A boring answer Yes a boring answer We made it very entertaining Yeah we made it great And watching it Like if you're not Listening to this If you actually go and watch it You get to watch people Fire guns loads And call robot arms And stuff But you can picture My fan theory though I like your fan theory and I'd love to know if anyone's ever tested that that's clever because what you'd do the first fan you'd have on like level 1 second fan level 2 3 4 so as it's losing energy from the what's it called losing momentum momentum it's getting pushed more and more by the fan it's good yeah you do keep going down though we want a sideways bend yeah well you put them on the wall yeah on the wall yeah I'm going to have to clever mate it's very clever maybe I'll do some research into that see if that's a thing.
1:13:17Yeah, and we'll do another episode like this very soon. Yeah, I'm happy. I've got loads more. Yeah. I've got loads more. I've got, do you want to hear a little idea of ones that could be to come? Well, let's do this again next week. So the listeners know they've got more to come and if they hated this episode, they can go and enjoy the Monday somewhere else. They'll still do their Monday in the same place. They just don't listen to this. Give it a try. Give it a go. It might be completely different. We are going to be analysing. What are we going to be analysing? We've got the penny drops. Can I...
1:13:44Leave it, leave it, Ty. leave a title can a penny killer person have dropped off the Eiffel Tower we've worked it out why do you say leave a title and then say what it could be that's very interesting why did you tell me well the Empire State Building if you throw a penny off the top of the Empire State Building can it go through someone's skull on the floor clever oh we'll be theorising that is yawning contagious yeah yes it is yeah can you catch a bullet in your teeth like all the magicians do I liked your little bite yeah that's why you're grinding and that's why you need a gum shield. You keep doing that shit.
1:14:17The Elevator of Death. Oh, okay. I've already got a fear of elevators. Bull in a China shop. Bull in a China shop. And there's even one from Breaking Bad. Oh. Okay. Join us next week when the Theory Slammers will be slamming more theories. Slam Jar Gandhi. Slam Wise Gandhi. How are you? At peace. You enjoyed that? I'm Slam Jar. Slam Jar out. I'm Stevie. Stevie is taking inspo from Mythbusters (and Fiona) and has brought a handful of theories to the virgin table for Jaack and Alfie (AKA The Theory Slammers) to SLAM.
Can a regular playing card be turned into a deadly weapon with one powerful throw? Could you blast yourself into space using fireworks? Is it possible to bend a bullet in mid-air? Does running in the rain keep you drier than walking through rain?
All these myths have actually been tested on Mythbusters, so the boys can debate whether it’s possible and theorise which chaotic experiments were used to test it, and Stevie can reveal the truth!
Plus Jaack explains his beef with a local running organisation...
