In short
“Shower Thoughts” episode of Jackmates Happy Hour. The hosts riff on “shower thought” style questions, then debate everyday oddities: whether a straw has one hole or two, whether fish count as pets, whether punching yourself hurts means you’re strong or weak, and whether water has a taste (with a Norwich vs other-city comparison). They also share a personal story about a car crash caused by another driver claiming her foot slipped, plus a running discussion about driving habits (including socks-on-driving jokes).
Guests
Three hosts only—Jackmates, Stevie White, and Alfie Indra. No external guests are interviewed.
Key claims
- A straw is argued as “one hole” (majority) vs “two holes” (Alfie initially).
- Fish are “technically pets” but debated as a “shit pet”; turtles/parrots/worms are also discussed.
- Pain threshold vs strength are treated as separate classifications.
- Norwich tap water “tastes” worse than other tap water; water taste is treated as real, not imagined.
Notable examples
- James Acaster impression controversy (and fear of being disliked).
- The crash story: dashcam footage, “foot slipped,” and a casual compliment about the Tesla.
- “Taste test” claim: blindfolded ability to distinguish tap vs bottled water “5/5.”

1:01Jackmates Happy Hour. Hello guys, welcome back to Jackmates Happy Hour podcast. There's three of us here today. It's me, Jackmates, Stevie White and Alfie Indra. Are we going to blow your socks off? Yes, we are. You sounded like the guy you like then. Oh, who? Cairns. You did load. You sounded so much like John Cairns then. Maybe I am. Maybe I'm becoming him. Maybe I'm becoming him. You've moved on from Brent to Cairns. Yeah, I've moved on from Gervais and I'm finding a new style that's just someone else's really funny style that I'm taking. When will I find my own style? Not happening, is it?
1:38Never. That involves... Yeah. That's a good thing, though, I think. Bit of a sponge? Yeah. To take on the traits of people that are funny and add them to your repertoire. Who was that that you were doing there? No one. Repertoire? James Acaster. Yeah. Nice. No, I'd never want to be James Acaster. Rude. Ooh. Tyson Fury. What's your beef with James Acaster? I've got no beef for James Acaster. Feels like you've got beef with him. Just not my bag. Really? I love it. I think he's brilliant. I think he's a wonderful stand-up comedian. Why is he not your bag, then? Just not my kind of... I don't think you could pull it off.
2:11What? James Acaster. I could do the impression of James Acaster. Go on, then. You can't say that and then not do it. No. Yeah, but I also know... I've seen the video of James Acaster calling out the guy that does the impression of him. Have you seen that? No. Have you not seen that? No. There's a guy on TikTok that was a really good James Acast impression. Met him at one of James' shows. Done the impression to him. James goes on a podcast and goes, there's this guy on TikTok that does an impression of me. Like that. Who said that to me? James Acast. Why were you talking like that? Because that's me doing it.
2:52I'm lost now. All right, do you want me to do mine and then I'll tell you the story? Yeah. Yeah. not not all of the apples I have three three three three three three it's Jonathan Ross right so this guy meets him does an impression James goes great whatever James then goes on a podcast is being interviewed and then he goes there's this fucking guy does an impression of me he goes I hate that guy he goes I want that guy to die I hate that guy he's joking though but he's going like it's a terrible impression and I had to look at him and say yeah good impression and then he goes it's terrible sounds nothing like me yeah but is that not when people go I don't sound like that but you actually do but then the guy who does the TikTok is like reacting to that and going that's me he's talking about like that but then all the comments are like James hates you fucking stop doing it you're a prick like that and it just gets a bit sour so you're worried of doing yours I've done it now and I'm not I can't do it so if everyone can clip that and tag James Acaster and everything James Acaster will already hate me why I'm just 100 % the kind of person he would hate Go on, what are your traits?
3:56YouTuber. Do you think he hates YouTubers? Yeah. I doubt he hates YouTubers. I think James Acaster, either one doesn't know who the fuck I am. Yeah, likely. But then also, no, he probably does. Oh yeah, we've had Josh Whittacombe on. We've had Josh Whittacombe, yeah. And also we're always charting near them on the charts. You know who I've just seen do a really good impression on something? Sean Walsh. And he does an impression of Michael McIntyre. Does Michael McIntyre and then he does Josh Widdicombe to Josh Widdicombe. Both really good impressions. Sean Mulch is good at that. Very good. Yeah.
4:30Yeah. You, not so much. What? My turn was not bad. It's not great. I don't think it was bad. I don't think it was bad. It's... That's how much I am. Hello, it's me. I'm James A. Custer. That's like... I imagine if an American person, they were like, do a British nerd. And they'd go, I'm... Is he not a British nerd? No. Let me ask you that. No, he's cool, isn't he? He plays the drums and he dresses quite cool. Loves music, doesn't he? He's a good... He's an amazing stand-up comedian. I don't know if the word cool is how you'd describe James Acar. I think he is quite... I think he is quite cool.
5:11He's cool to us because we're like, oh, he's a brilliant stand-up. I don't know what's cool. It's not cool, is it? Could you see James Acar as the Ryan and the Harley Davidson? Is that cool? It's not cool, though. That's your version of cool Would he be in That's the first thing That's coming to your mind Would he be in Sons of Anarchy Why are you so Harley-Davidson Based for cool I'm talking about Quintessential tropes That make you cool Would he have a tattoo On his arm This is a three-year-old's Version of cool Do they have a tattoo And drive a motorbike What makes someone cool to you Aren't like hipsters And stuff like that Cool these days Don't see colour Well that's probably About it for me Don't see colour Yeah Well, I'm sure James Acosta doesn't see colour.
5:52Are you colourblind? Huh? Is that what you're saying? No, he just means he don't like racists. He's banging on that drum again. Yeah, that bloody old chestnut. Why is this so James Acosta heavy? No, we can leave it. Yeah, let's leave it. Yeah, we can leave it. Even up to anything? You're in a bad mood. I was in a good mood until you started putting it on me. Whole body language is off right now. You're leaning back. You're biting your own tongue. Have some respect. Sit up I'm chill You were in an awful mood The other night as well When I saw you When? When you were late to football I was one minute late And why was I late Stevie?
6:28Because somebody crashed Into my fucking car You crashed your car again No I didn't No I'm not having Adjourned You're the worst driver Not adjourned Speculation What? Speculation Why do you say speculation? Have you ever seen court? You knew where I was going Blair You knew exactly where Very cheap you've crashed your car again I haven't crashed my car how many times did that Tesla crash let me ask you this let me ask both of you this every single time I have crashed my car mental like that's a sentence every single time how do you find out about it how have you become aware that I've crashed my car you go on about it I tell you don't I and I own it don't I because I'm a big boy that can't drive No, you haven't always told me.
7:18Sometimes I've been in the car. Yeah, right. I've been in the car as well. Everyone here in this room has been in the car when you've crashed. Right. And not together. Okay. Never together. Liverpool was together. Well, okay. What? No. Were you in the car for Liverpool? No. Six hours of solid driving from Jack to then just go into... Thanks for helping. I was there. I was watching. I can't help. No, I was watching. Oh, yeah, you were outside the car. And then me and you and Stoke, you ripped the bumper off. Yeah. Yeah. But I own it, right? I own it. Have I ever said on a podcast I'm good at driving ever once?
7:48No. No. So the fact I'm coming to you now and going, someone crashed into me, I would just admit it. I'd have another crash again. I'm a Wally. But I'm... I don't know if you would, though. Well, luckily, I've got fucking dash cam footage. And we'll overlay it. All right. We'll overlay it. Okay. We'll overlay it. I'm... I haven't... Right. I don't know if this is true or not, but this is my opinion. Right? And I'll die on this hill. She was on her phone. Because I am parked at a red light. Yeah. And I have got every reason to be annoyed at this. Yeah. Because I am parked at a red light, arms crossed like that, just watching the red light.
8:24Always have your hands at 10 and 2, please. 10 to 2. My car's stationary, right? So I'm just sort of like this. Yeah, you're just ready to go. You actually fail your test if you take your hands off when the engine's running. Yeah, you would have failed. Yeah, well, the engine was off because I was waiting at a red light so long. He is having both hands. It wasn't, and my arms weren't even closed. Okay. Start telling the truth now. Go. I'm sat at a red light. Yeah. 10 seconds go by Torque Sports on Just waiting for the For the light to change All of a sudden You know if somebody Just like kisses The back of your car It's just gonna make Like a little I'm talking full on Bang In my car Right For about half a second I thought a bomb had gone off Inside your car I thought a bomb Had gone off mate Why You're in the way to it And then all of a sudden I'm going Like that I'm forwards like that I'm going what the fuck Ringing in my ears Ringing in my ears I was like am I dead Have I just died I look about, I'm like, what the hell?
9:17I look in my windscreen, what's it called? The wing mirror. Yeah. I can't even see the car because it's that close pressed into mine. So you know when you look in a mirror and you can see a car out there? Yeah. This woman's car is that close that you can't even see it, if that makes sense. So I've... It's a small car. So I... I can't think of a way that you looking through your mirror, you can't see a car touching your car. That doesn't make sense to me. No, it does. It does. Unless you're in a lorry. Because it's nighttime, right? It's nighttime and it's so close that like, I'm looking out of my rear view mirror, but like into her rear view mirror, if you know what I mean.
9:53So it doesn't look like a car. Oh, so you're looking straight through her window. So I couldn't see, and because it was dark and the light went on inside our car, I couldn't see anything. So I'm like, what the fuck? So I get out and I go, what the fuck has just happened? Because I'm just, I hadn't just come to a stop. I've been sat there 10 seconds. I've been sat there. And then you can see it on the dash cam footage. This car just does not break once. it just comes in at about 30 miles an hour bash just straight into my car I was like did you get like whiplash oh it fucked my neck yeah I'm not gonna put a thing in but like a claim what she said she I knew straight away something dodgy was happened because you know if you get caught doing something bad you usually like admit to half of it you know what I mean obviously I'm being like truthful because like she said oh she was so blase about it as well she said oh sorry my foot slipped on the break well I'll just watch it back and not once does it even look like you break my theory is on the phone texting comes down the hill bash straight into the back of my car didn't you go into the back of someone before i went into the back of someone around about yeah i held my hands up i was i was on the wheel but i was really good yeah but i but i admitted it yeah so so i i admitted my fault at the time I went they claimed my insurance paid my no claims is gone so why can I not be angry at someone doing it to me why aren't you just doing that to them he is oh you are no I mean why aren't you claiming I am he is you are claiming you're she must have been a bit worried when she saw it as a Tesla she went oh and you've got a really nice car rub it in not anymore that's what I was thinking I was like it doesn't matter No, I had a really nice car.
11:38Yeah. For 2024, that was. So did she get out? She got out. She went, she went, she went, do you want to know what happened? Yeah, do her. Don't do her. Just show me her. So I get out. I'm like that because I'm just confused. But bear in mind, I'm in my socks. I drive in my socks. That's what I do, right? You need to change your driving habits massively. That's not safe either. It's not safe. I don't even know if that's legal. You're playing up to the Reddit. Is that legal? I don't read the fucking Reddit, so I wouldn't know, son. Once a day, I check. And it's never nice. No, it's been nice lately.
12:14Has it? Yeah, I've actually checked. You're more than, it's more than safe to drive in. I believe it's more than safe to drive in socks. You can't say I believe. It's either safe or it's not. Well, for me, it's safe. I always thought it was illegal to drive in flip-flops. Yeah, it is. Which would make sense. But socks, you've got more control. No, not if you need to slam on the brakes. Yeah, oh mate, you've got more socks. Really? I've got a bit of grip, a bit of friction. I'll try it, I think that sounds dangerous. Don't try it, because I don't want to be at fault if anything happens. But you know what, I was driving in heavy rain the other day, and when I first got in my car, obviously I'd just been walking towards my car in heavy rain.
12:46Slippy. My shoes were slipping all over the pedals. If I took my shoes off, that actually would have been better. I actually go to the car in my shoes sometimes, take them off. What do you mean sometimes? Always go to the car in your shoes. It's not been raining, but... You hate wearing shoes. I do hate wearing shoes. I'm surprised I've got them on now. But I take... Surprise! He's like, whoa! You okay? Didn't expect that. Didn't know he's wearing that. But then I take the shoes off. Anyway, I get out of the car. I go, what's just happened? I'm polite. I go, what the hell's just happened? She goes, oh, sorry, mate.
13:18She goes, oh, my foot just slipped. I was just trying to press it. It just slipped. She's so casual. Is she not shocked? Like, fuck. Mate, her car was fucked, mate. I thought, how are you being this casual? She goes, I go, what do we do now? Like that. I don't know. I'm not. Normally, I'm the one going, I'm so sorry. Well, you know what she needs to do now. That's what I normally do. The multiple times I've crashed into someone. I go, so what do we do now? She goes, I guess you just take my details. I go, yeah. So I get my phone up, give them a note. And then I go, I'm like going, that is really fucked, isn't it?
13:51And then she goes, are you okay? Because I'm holding my neck quite a bit. And I go, yeah, I'm all right. And then she goes, oh, and you've got a really nice car as well. And I'm just like, you didn't need to say that. and then she calls up someone on her phone, either her dad or her boyfriend. We are from Norwich, could be both, right? So she starts going, yeah, no, no, I'm okay. She's obviously just text someone because she goes, no, I'm okay. Yeah, no, no, he's okay. He's really lovely. That's what she said, right? Oh, yeah, a little compliment. I know what she's doing. She's trying to get me on board.
14:23Because then I can't go, you're a fucking little prick and you're on your phone. Would you have ever said that to her? No, I don't think she was a prick. but like but i i believe she she must have been doing something because why would you just plow did you say to her nah your foot slipped what are you on about i was just going fair enough like all right cool and then she went is your car drivable i went honestly i don't know because i've just got out of it yeah so like what what do you mean is it drivable i'm not going to know until i try and drive away i wasn't going to do that and then she she went do you want to um do this do you want to do this away from insurance i was like probably not yeah good yeah i was like probably not and then i said can you write your reg down on there but this is how fucking stupid i am right i go she gives me her details and then i go can you write your reg down on there she writes it down so i can't see her front reg because it's in my car right and i didn't even go and check the back why i just i like you're so trustworthy in the moment i actually remembered thinking she could be lying but i thought i'm gonna look a twat if i go and double check now so i just went all right cool i think she looks a bit more of a twat she didn't seem it she didn't act like it.
15:27I want a little bit more cringe from her, if I'm honest. Maybe it's not her first rodeo. Yeah, that's what I've been told. You're guessing. A couple of mates of mine went, she's done that before. Unlucky, yeah. How bad's your car? Well, you've seen it, Stevie. Can you drive it? Because you came to football. It's actually not that bad. No, you came to football and it was dark as we were leaving. I could tell you weren't in the best of moods, obviously. so we finished football and he just went to his car so I went to look behind it and I was like I'll leave it for now I'll wait until I can see it in daylight so I did see it yesterday when I came to yours it's not as bad as the sound the car made the video as well makes it I was expecting it to be worse it's not good it's not great it's a bad dent yeah it's bad it's bad are they gonna fix it?
16:16yeah I'm gonna get it fixed yeah that's a definite like loss of value on the car if it wasn't fixed yeah and get it fixed but yeah she didn't mean to but maybe don't drive Dave. If that's what you were doing. If that's what you were doing. Yeah. You got anything to add today or not? Because I am in a bad mood now. Yeah. You've brought that out of me. And what's bad about this bad mood is once we got through all this, the eps kind of on you as well. Yeah, I had a few things on my mind. You planned an episode, so. I've had a few things on my mind. We're all caught up. Caught up, baby. All caught up.
16:48Now. Happy start. Now, over the year, sometimes Fia and I have been laying in bed chatting and I'll ask something a bit stupid. I'm not trying to be stupid, but contrary to what the fucking Reddit page thinks. And I have kind of compiled a list of some things that I've thought of from January the 4th, 2025. Wow, cool. And some of them are dumb, but what I'm trying to say here, you know like Shower Thoughts? You've got a song. I've got an EP called Shower Thoughts. There you go. So you know the concept. What's the concept of shower thoughts, Alf? Just thinking whilst you're in the shower. Yeah, but like deep things, right?
17:32Yeah, they're weirder things than you'd expect. It's a bit, are you thinking like a bit like, what's the other thing they say? The high thoughts? What's that? When you're stoned? Yeah, like thoughts when you're, I don't know. What, you get deep and you think about life. But like, they're almost a bit silly as well. Like you're overthinking things that shouldn't be. Are you talking about like what you text me the other day? Yeah. We had a conversation. Right, so some of these questions I've thought up off my own head, but then other times, like the other day I was in bed and I was watching the Premier League do this series on YouTube where they get managers to answer random questions, right?
18:05Sugar in your... How many sugars do you need to eat? That kind of stuff, right? That's not the same question you're going to ask. No, no, no. But one of the questions they had on there that made me think, fucking hell, that is a thinker, is... And we'll start with this one, because I just want to say not all of these are my original thoughts, but one of these is, is a straw one hole or two holes? Because I texted you about this at the time. We had a bit of a debate about it. And we disagree, right? We disagree. So before we say our answers, let's see what side Alfie's on. Is a straw one hole or two holes, Alfie?
18:38I love this, by the way, and I want to congratulate you on a brilliant episode we're about to have together. Do you know what's really funny? That reaction is almost identical to what Fee pretended to do in the car about Alfie. How funny is that? It's not really predictable. She went, she went, Alfie's going to be great on this because as soon as you asked the first question and then she did a little impression. It said she went, does a straw have one? Oh, you're so, that's, no, I'm not like that. Good question, mate. That's so funny. That is so horrible because it means, it's just proved I'm just putting all this shit on.
19:14And it's not genuine at all. Because that's not like the real me. no one knows the real me other than my friends and family and I would never do that in real life. But she premised it with Alfie's going to be great on this. So it's a good thing. Because the real you is the one who goes to a petrol station at night to grab a choccy bar and doesn't have any content to give us. We don't need real you. We need content. Yeah, he's there. If everyone just sat and spoke like the real us, we'd be dull. Can I now ask, are you thinking about the straw question or are you just introspectively thinking about that?
19:46Yes, that one, the second one. the second one back to the straws one hole or two holes I think it depends I need to know how they make the straws because if they make them and they punch one hole all the way through then it's one hole but if they have it sealed and they make two holes then it's two holes do you think they make it sealed? why would they make it sealed? I'd picture Alfie it's a sheet I'd picture that straws aren't made as individual straws and it would be one huge one that's been cut into loads of little ones so I don't know if it'd be possible to punch If I drill a hole through a wall, it's one hole, no matter what side of the wall you are.
20:25Right. That is a hole in a wall, right? It's not two holes in the wall. I'd go, oh, it's that hole in the wall. And then I'd walk around to the other room. It's that same hole in the wall. There is one straw. One. My brother. Thank you, bro. My brother. One hole. You think it's two? My answer was one. How? You knob. Yours was two. You said two. Because my reply to you was... say it about my reply to you was well i don't sorry a donut only has one hole and a straw is just a long donut so it is two and i'll tell you for why you've just why do you fistfail me say my brother yeah uh you see fistfail me say my brother say brother brother why'd you say my brother because i thought maybe i agreed with you there but when i think about it now this was my original thought process imagine you've got a hole in the sand right and you burrow a mile down the road you pop up here right i'm on the phone to you you're at yarmouth i'm at chroma right i go alf i've just in a hole on the yeah i've gone i've just in a hole i need to take that back yeah decide it again yeah can i get it again no he's on the fence two holes but the same journey.
21:39But you're changing the parameters. That's a big old bend. There's a lot going on. It's the same as a straw? No, we're talking about a straw, though. We're talking about a straw. Yeah, but it's the same thing, though. Alright, so, if I had a mile-long straw, and you're a mile away, and I go, can you see any holes where you are? You'll go, I can see one hole, yeah. And I'll go, so can I. But if you were both looked... It's the same one, isn't it? If you looked through it, and he could see your eye, he's only looking through one hole, isn't he? Even if it's a mile long. Hang on, I've just thought of a different thing.
22:12what's out the other end of that one hole that's been elongated. Here's an argument for your side. Yeah. You feed a straw through my mouth and out my buttock hole. I, this ain't my butthole, this is my mouth. Yeah. That's two different holes. Yeah, they're two different holes. But it's going all the way through Stevie like a straw. But it's not, is it? I don't know if that's possible. Like a t-shirt. has four holes. A t-shirt is four holes, isn't it? Bottom neck, arm, arm. What? Mine just blew. What? I've considered the bottom one to be a hole. That's what you're thinking, wasn't it? The bottom one's the four holes.
22:57Yeah. So the t-shirt is four holes. Nah, that's not a hole. This is not a hole. No. This bottom bit, there's one hole. Two, three, there's three. That is a hole. Why would that not be a hole? I don't know. Yeah, this is tricky. Score one hole. So your body has lots of different holes in it, right? So you're saying we're all just one big hole. No, I'm not, because I'm saying a t-shirt, it's very shape-dependent. They're not connecting holes, really, are they? Yeah, they are. Because I can shove something through there and out there, and these are the same hole. What? Oh, you're talking about my t-shirt?
23:30I thought you were talking about my body. No, no, no, no. No, I was talking about the body. They're not connecting holes. The body, but back to the body. I think it's what if I had a closed straw if I punched a hole through there and then punched a hole through the other side that would be two holes wouldn't it or would it just be I don't know I don't know this is too hard I think if they're not straight on then it's multiple holes like if I had a straw say this wire is a straw and there's a hole here that goes all the way through that's your one hole if I punch a hole through there I've added a second hole yeah it's one it's one it's one I'm sorry it's one you'll just go with it that's logic you got confused at t-shirts you lost my confidence can we google this and get an answer no good for the podcast
24:23maybe maybe the people commenting on the spotify or the reddit can say whether they think it's one hole or two holes so you two are going against me so we're saying collectively it's one hole All right, I disagree, but fair enough. The majority rules. Wait, so why did I say it's two and then... No, you said one. You started one. Yes, I agree that it's one. Okay. This episode is brought to you by eBay. Oh, I'm a big fan of eBay. So am I, Stevie, especially the eBay app. It seems like you can find absolutely anything on there. I mean, I use it for so many different things, from window wipers to my car, to just really cool flannel shirts that I wear every week on this show.
25:03And do you remember my old brown one with the zip that I liked? I do, and you couldn't find it because you lost it and then couldn't buy it again from the same place. I was spending ages trying to find it online, and then I downloaded the eBay app, and I found it in about 20 minutes. True story. Oh, mate, I literally just scroll through it and window shop even when I'm not looking for anything specific, and I'll always find something I want. Yeah, going back to my shirt, there was about four or five different photos on there, and it arrived exactly how it looked in the photos. I was buzzing. Well, you know when you're buying on eBay, you'll always find some hidden gems.
25:31Yep. When you find great deals, you can't help but say when it's eBay. Sierra has all the best active and outdoor brands you need. From athletic stuff, like a full-court pickup game, swish, to athletic-ish stuff, like a half-mile stroll. Get those steps in! And for morning hikes up the mountain trail, good pace to nighttime ghost stories from the camping chair. What a twist. Whatever level of active, Sierra loves it all. Head to Sierra or Sierra.com for the brands you want at the prices that let you do it all. From athletic to athletic, Sierra's got it. Brussels clean up nicely at Sweetgreen. Maple glazed, roasted, and edges perfectly caramelized.
26:15Sweetgreen's fall harvest is back on the menu, and the season's most overlooked little green vegetable is dressed to be devoured. You know what to do. Order on the Sweetgreen app. This is one that I thought of a little while ago. I thought of this. This was the one I thought of in January. And then it was brought back to my attention because they had this discussion a couple of months ago on Talk Sport. Okay. Right? Is a fish a pet? Yeah. No. Depends if someone owns it. A fish in a pond isn't a pet. So you've got a couple of onions. What makes them a pet to you? I bought him and said that's my pet So if I bought you and said you're my pet does that mean you're my pet?
26:59How can you buy him? That is disgusting and we don't live in those times anymore So I don't know why you've picked me and not Stevie Because I was talking to you It's weird isn't it? You're going to be cheaper Yeah Ow I hit my knee Better value for money Smack my knee And that's why Yeah. Well, yeah, it is a pet. You can have a fucking pet worm, mate. You can have a pet bloody... You can have a little imaginary mate that says you're pet. But a pet, you have to take it for walks. You have to feed it. You have to look after it. You have to fish. You put it in a fucking bowl, let it do its thing.
Read the full transcript
27:36No, you've got to feed it. You've got to feed it, mate. You're not even putting the food in its mouth. You're just pouring it in. I don't put the food in the onion's mouth. Put it in a little bowl, mate, and you're just putting it in a big bowl that it's swimming in. Yeah. It's actually easier to feed a fish than it is to feed a cat. I would be gutted if I had a pet fish. What are we doing here with this? You've been listening to Talk Sport and you think it's woke to have a pet fish. That's what's happened here. You've heard Alan Brazil go, oh, you can't have a fucking pet fish. And you're going, you're right, Alan, you can't have a pet fish.
28:04It was on Sports Bar in the evening anyway. Who's on that one? Jason Cundy. I like him. And Jamie O 'Hara. What were their thoughts? People don't like that. I love all of that. I love Talk Sport. Sorry. I think it's brilliant. It does change his mind a lot, doesn't it? Yeah. What were their thoughts? Can you remember? I can't remember now because I was too transfixed on my thought process. What's the definition of a pet? Like, you can interact with it. It knows... I think, here's a theory, every pet knows you're its owner.
28:37And if it doesn't, then it's not. Do you think turtles do? Yeah. They come up to you. You give it a bit of leaf, a bit of cabbage, a bit of cabbage. I'm not... What about... You have no authority to speak on turtles. And you do? Who put you in charge of the turtles? Actually, my mate Joe used to have two pet turtles. My nan used to have two. And they come up to you like dogs and jump up. No, they didn't, did they? You shoved lettuce in its little mouth when it's looking the other way. You can go like that to a turtle and it'll come and take it. I can dangle something for a fish and it'll come and eat it.
29:12But then you weren't the pet turtle. You weren't the turtle's owner. and it came and took letters off you. Not me, but I saw it do it to my nan before they died. Oh, my nan outlived it. She must have had it for ages. My nan, yeah, well, they got run over themselves. What? She let them out? She let them out? They borrowed under their little, their, what's it called, fence, was only like a bit of skirting board. Like prison break. Yeah, and they went under the skirting board, crossed the garden under the fence out near the shops. Bang. I don't want to be rude, but how slow did that happen? I was a kid when this happened.
29:53No one noticed. But they escaped. So we never saw them again. How have you just added they got run over? Well, I imagine it did. Or a seagull probably picked them up. Probably bastard. That's a whole story you've created. My theory was they got run over. We never saw them again. Why are they called pets? Is it because you can pet them? You can't pet a fish. See that might be where you get Oh so you've got like this actual definition Pet a dog, pet a cat, pet a turtle, pet a worm You can't pet a fish You can't pet a worm can you? Yeah you can just go like that Yeah but you could pet a fish You just get your hand wet Yeah You can do it No it's went off It wouldn't want you near it Yeah my onion half the time I stroke it And it's don't want me near it Walks off Hates me What?
30:37Does it? Yeah What's this what happened here? No it loves me, it hates me, it loves me, it hates me Both or just one? Just one, just one. Really? New one? Yeah. No. Old one, sad you got new one. No, they love each other, mate. Do they? I hate you. Yeah. Do they actually get on? Yeah, it's nice. It's nice to see, yeah. Maybe it realised it doesn't need you anymore because it's got new one. Well, that makes me sad when you say things like that.
31:04I think a pet is not... I think a fish is more of like a sort of wet decoration. So you don't think... That's so good. You can't have a pet butterfly? No. So you don't think you can have a pet bird? Like a parrot? Yeah. Not really. Not really? We should turn into one. It's been so weird today. Not really. That was so weird. I thought you were doing a bit. I thought you were doing a parrot. Not really, Polly. But you were just talking in your own voice, like really high pitched. Not really.
31:52Are you okay? I was going to say more, so I was going to go, not really, because, and then I just stopped, so I went, not really. You know when you put the infliction in the start because you know you're going to go somewhere. like yeah my nanos quite like that i went yeah that's so much weirder when you stop that's what i mean i think fish are pets but i do think it's a shit pet Yeah. I don't know why people like having fish. Fish is a pet. My dad had caught in the garden for years. I don't know how nice it is either. Maybe they should just be like not in a bowl. I don't know. Yeah. You can't win them at fun fairs anymore, can you?
32:52Or can you? You sound human. You can actually. I think you can. Can you? But you shouldn't be able to. No, that's not nice. No. This one. We need to give a little decider. We got a decider on the first one. I think a fish is not a pet but I think you two as I think on a technicality they're a pet but I do think it's a shit pet are they a pet just because you're brought up to know them as a pet I can't change how I was brought up imagine all the pets in the world you'd never seen a fish before right and then one day I went to you see that bowl see that thing floating and that's a pet you'd go no that's not a pet it's the same as me going this little growliff character that's not alive is it would you count a tarantula as a pet yeah I feel like that's the same Fish pet Jack zero for two here We're collective We're not going against each other We're theorising Alfie and I are collectively better than you If you punch yourself This is one of mine If you punch yourself And it hurts Does that mean you're strong or weak?
33:58Is that a good punch? That's a high thing, isn't it? Did you come up with that? Yeah. Brilliant. Is that good? Brilliant, yeah. Were you on drugs? No, I don't. Did you do an edible? I don't know. I don't eat-ables. I don't know I don't eat. No. Right. I think you're pound for pound as strong as you are. You just said nothing. Yeah. Pound for pound, I can take the punches I throw at myself perfectly. But can you? Would it hurt you if you punched yourself in the face as hard as you can? Yeah. So does that mean you must be hard then? No, I can take it though. I'm not a little bitch. I can take my own punch.
34:42Could you knock yourself out? No. If you full forced punch Tyson Fury in the face with your fist, would it hurt him? No. Not really, would it? It probably would still hurt him. No, it'd probably go off a bit uncomfortable. He wouldn't care. This is a man who's been punched in the face by using paper cuts. But you're talking about no... Are you talking with glove? All right, with a boxing glove. Okay, yeah, you'd probably be all right with it. The scientific test has to be the same across the board. Are we going glove or no glove? I think no glove, you could hurt 90 % of people, 99 % of people.
35:12So let's say glove. Glove, right? Alfie was full force, punched Tyson Fury in the face with a boxing glove. Not really going to hurt him. They'd have to sit down, genuinely. Yeah, Tyson would probably say it's a two out of ten. No, one. One? One out of ten? Right? But then if you full force punched yourself in the face, you could knock yourself out. No, because I think there's something in my brain which would stop me doing it. No, but he's saying put another clone of you in front of you. No, I'm not. I'm saying that. What Alfie's saying. Yeah, no. No, because he's stopping himself mentally. But I'm saying if you don't have that block.
35:45If Tyson Fury punched himself in the face, it would hurt. Because you're only as strong as your own... Your strength is you. I'm punching myself. No, I don't think... because then I think everyone would equal themselves out on themselves. I think some people are stronger than they are pain threshold. Oh, yeah, because your pain threshold is different to your strength. I think I'm quite a little bitch. If something hits me, I go, oh, that hurt. And I think I've got a half-decent punch. So I think if I punched myself in the face, I'd be in a lot of pain. Yeah, I just gently hit myself. I just gently hit myself on the cheek, and I could feel that would hurt if I went any harder.
36:18Yeah. Let me throw this to you. Let me throw this to you. Say a boxer had a really good punch, but a really weak chin. Would you call them weak? No, you'd say they're still very strong. I don't know, because they've got a vulnerability to them. Yeah, but you'd say they're strong still, because they're knocking people out. So are we saying you can be strong and weak at the same time? Yeah, they're two different classifications. Your pain threshold versus your strength are two completely different things, and I don't think they can coincide. So the answer's kind of neither. But if my question is, if you punch yourself and it hurts, are you weak or strong?
36:54We have to pick one of them. What are we going? Strong because you're strong enough to hurt yourself. But then I would say weak because I think a weak person would hurt themselves by punching themselves in the face. You're getting quite meta about it though. Quite deep about it. Yeah. A little kid, if a little kid punched themselves in the face, it would hurt because they're a little kid and they've got a little kid's face. But they've also got a little kid's hand. Yeah. I think it makes you strong. I think strong. All right, overrule me then. Yep. You're going weak. Right. Does water have a taste?
37:28Does water have a taste? I'm going to say yes, because I like water. Yeah. But sometimes I do not like water. Can I fully explain why? No. But if I don't like it sometimes and I like it other times. North tap water. Norwich tap water, not very good. No, crap. Norwich tap water, rubbish. Wales tap water, lovely. Bristol tap water, better. I think I might have told you boys this before on the pod, right? But this is one of my greatest flexes, right? I told my cousin, Rhys, that I could taste the difference between tap water and bottled water. Could you do that, right? I don't think so. Right? I think I'd stand a solid chance.
38:06I think I could, right? And my cousin, Rhys, works in cuisine, worked in restaurants his whole life, knows what flavour profiles go with other things like that. He said to me, this was last Christmas that's happened, And he said to me, no chance, right? I said, I promise you I can. More so than that, he went and got one of each in a little thing. He brought it over to me. I was blindfolded. I smelt the water. And I could tell you straight away, I got it right five times out of five. Do you reckon you could de-brand? I probably couldn't de-brand, but I can tell you between tap water and bottle water.
38:36You know what? I am currently planning the shittest Jack and Stevie video in here. My God, are we doing that on camera? Yeah, I'll do it. I'll do it now. I think it tastes of minerals. Yeah. No, I think bottled water tastes nothing, right? Fine. Tap water tastes of chemicals. That's the difference. Because they have, I guess it's filtered in a different way. Does it have chemicals in? It's coming through a pipe constantly as well, isn't it? Whereas, because Norwich water is shit, we've got a little filter now, so we always fill it and put it in the fridge and wait for it to come through. I'll never have water straight out of the tap anymore.
39:11I won't tell you, and I don't want to just scare people, because water is water, right? So I won't tell you who told me this, right? But there's a respected YouTuber, right? Who's a father and used to work at a water plant, right? And he... I feel like people could figure who to say. You're giving a lot of information. And they live at... He's got kids, used to work here. It's like anyone can just Google who... And he's brothers with... And bleep that thing. And he does not let his kids, right? I was with him in Anandos once. and he went up to the person around the counter and asked, you know, the water pump thing, asked what the connection was to the machine.
39:53And I was like, what the fuck's going on there? And it's because he worked at the water plant and saw how it was kept and the chemicals and stuff like that. He has never, ever let his children drink tap water. So something's not - Things I say about that, because I do agree with stuff like that, but I know people that have lived to 100 that have drunk tap water. For sure, yeah. So does it actually affect... I always think that about stuff like that. Do you know... Maybe it is, but... Like, if it's bad for you, but... Yeah, maybe that person would have lived to 105 if they hadn't. Yeah, right. You know when I think it, when you go abroad to, like, Spain, they're like, you can't drink the tap water.
40:33Spain's, like, a big old country. What, like, a developed country? Yeah, why are they not bothered with tap water? Why are they not going, let's get this filtered to you? I'm going to get a filter now. Because I stress every time I go to, like, if I'm in Spain, not often, but I'm stressing about brushing my teeth. I'm like, I can't. I drink a tap water in Spain. Are you not supposed to? I swear you're not meant to. There's some countries, I don't know, but don't worry about it. The water filter's cheap and well easy to use. I used to filter all my water and then I just stopped, mate. I just fucking stopped.
41:04I drink tap water so much. It's terrible. I drink it tonight. Yeah, I drink a lot of tap water, yeah. I do, but filtered first. but i always would prefer to have a bottle of water yeah mine was never a chemical thing though it's just norwich water isn't nice yeah i guess that is a chemical thing i just but but that also answers the question norwich water isn't nice which means yes water has a taste okay yeah i'd go with that i couldn't call something not nice if it doesn't have a taste okay cool we're flying through these on that one quickly something people always disagree with i think cucumber has such a strong taste everyone goes it just tastes like water no it doesn't cucumber does not taste of Because cucumber water tastes different to water.
41:43Yeah, exactly. Yeah, but it doesn't have a strong taste. But it has enough of a taste. It's the closest thing to water you can get that's not water. I don't like cucumber, and people always go, how do you not like cucumber because you like water? They're different. It's mental the things you don't like, right? Because everyone's entitled to like and not like what they want, right? But for example, I really actively do not like olives, right? I hate olives. And tomatoes, right? I think tomatoes have a strong taste. I'm okay with tomatoes. You don't like cucumbers. Yeah. And sweet corn. Yeah, I don't like sweet corn.
42:10Really? Sweet corn is like objectively one of the nicest tasting vegetables. It's sweet. It does this weird like explode in your mouth. Not a fan of that. Oh, so it's a texture. There's a lot of foods I can't have because of textures. Most vegetables explode in your mouth, don't they? Peas? They're okay. Not a big fan of peas. I'll have them though if they're on the plate. Carrots I like. Crunchy. You like crunchy stuff. Nah, I like them soft. I cook it like a baby. I won't have carrots. No, I've cooked carrots. This is trauma. Oh yeah, no, I didn't grow up veg. Really? Love mushrooms. Big fan of mushrooms.
42:45Where did they come into your life? Adult. Didn't have them until then. Wow. I couldn't even have fried onions when I was a kid. Always get a hot dog, no onion. Now I love onions. Yeah. Love peppers. Big fan of red and yellow peppers. What about green? Not as much of a fan. My least favourite are the coloured peppers. Why do some humans like stuff that other humans like? It's a different taste. Is it actually to do with that? Some humans like shagging men, some like shagging women. No, I know, but taste is like... We've all got tongues. Yeah, like it's weird that... It's just weird to me that we don't all like and dislike the same stuff.
43:21I see what you mean. I think part of it is because your taste buds don't fully develop as a child, do they? It's not until you're a bit older you can handle... That's why you love sweet stuff as a kid. I think it's all mental. I think it's all mental. I don't think anyone truly loves something or dislikes something. Don't they say if you try something enough times, you'll learn to be fine with it? I've done that a few times. I taught myself how to like pot noodles. That's a shit thing to do. Why? My dad always used to eat the curry pot noodle. And I used to smell it. And I'd never had a curry at this point.
43:49Didn't have a curry until I was about 24. What? Yeah. But then he was eating this curry pot noodle. And I was going, that smells really good. And I ate it and was like, that's fucking horrible. And then I was like, but I love the smell of it. So I kept eating it and eating it until I liked it. Do you think that's because it was something so different to what you'd had before that you were like, what the fuck? I've got no idea, guys. Let's test it. We all name one thing we don't like. And see if we can get good at liking it. In January, by January, we all need to tell it. I'm so up for this. We all have to try it and see if we like it.
44:20There is one thing in the world I do not like, and it's for a specific reason. Go on. And it's the taste of banana. Because I had banana medicine when I was a kid, and it made me really ill. Well, it stems back to that. Ever since then, I eat banana and I'm like, oh. Okay. But I really want to like banana. Because I really want banoffee pie. Yeah, and also, you're very healthy. You go to the gym a lot. A banana, because I'm not that healthy at all, but a banana for me is such an easy little vitamin boost. I always pick up a banana and eat a banana. So you would be great at eating banana. Wouldn't it be so good with bananas, mate?
44:56Bananas, you're the banana boy. Honestly. Yeah. Okay, well, that's just... do i go sweet corn i don't like the thought of it yeah but i think there's got to be something that's more you i think because i've got mine straight away shall i go mine yeah i would really like to be able to eat fish that's brilliant mate right because i go to restaurants i see it and i like i'm not going anything that looks mental like a prawn or a lobster or a crab they can fuck off but maybe like if i could eat sushi oh okay that's that's big fish in it all right i wonder if you could like gate where you're in so like chippy fish yeah you can do chip yeah do you like salmon what about that's that was going to be the first one salmon like a big bland or maybe even like a can you put sauce on it like a sea bass like something very light right go yeah Yeah, cover it in sauce.
45:50Bit less sauce next time. Bit less sauce next time. Yeah, okay. And also, with salmon, start cooked, eventually get to your raw salmon. Because that's sushi. Sushi with raw salmon would be fairly standard. Can you do fish fingers, boy? I can. I think you can do kids' fish. Start with that. I can do kids' fish. Start with all the kids' stuff, the oven stuff. Yeah. Like your fish goujons, your fish fingers. Yeah. Maybe some bird's eye stuff. Make it a little bit more meaty after a while. Right, okay. Then let's get you on the salmons. Let's pan fry that. Let's make it crispy on the outside. Put loads of sauce on.
46:22And Stevie's right. Then we're going to just slowly get you towards that raw stuff. Okay? You can do it. I don't like any of that either, but I'm not keen to do that. I love fish. I can't think of what I do then. A lot of mine, over the last few years, I've started to like more. What's your worst one? I don't like apples. I eat so many apples you would not believe. It gave me constipation last month. and a doctor said, you've got to stop eating so much apples, mate. I was in agony. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. It was the acidity. Right. My stomach was in knots. Was it? I was like, what is going on?
46:57Ali would be like, how many apples have you eaten today? I'd be like, three. That's too many. Yeah. And a pair. That's too much fibre. Fucking hell. Why were you talking about that? I don't know why you... I said I don't like apples. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You really do. I feel like that's mental and you could like apples by next week. You could easily do it. You could pick an apple and leave it. Sweet corn. What if I do sweet corn and cucumber? Yeah. Do them both. Deal. So in January, we all have to, but from now, we will have to really try. Yeah. And January, we'll all say whether the experiment worked or not.
47:27Fee, remind us, please, on the Christmas episode that me, Alfie and Stevie will check in and see how we're going on that. Yeah? I'm not looking forward to it. Right. I really am. Should we just give Robbie one that he has to do as well? But we don't know what he doesn't like. Dressing good. he's not going to be able to do it she's giving Zara a voucher right okay let's do a couple more what was the last question does water have a taste we all said yes right so water does have a taste by the way I like that you're indulging these questions because I thought I was going to get laughed out of the room today and weirdly the thing you've laughed at the most is somebody rear-ending me which I don't know how to take that there's still a chance Jack here's one I have been thinking about this for years do you think dogs know their name yeah what million percent and I'm a dog owner well I've been a dog owner for a lot of my life and I don't think they know the sound but that's just what we're doing so we don't know our name either is what you're saying because if you wrote it down I'd go that's my name yeah but they can't read they still know their name It's like saying, does a kid know their name?
48:44No, no, no. But like, if you put me in a room with Jack Butland, Jack the Ripper, and Post Malone, and went, which two of these have got your name? I would know which two have my name. You're asking too much of dogs here. Yeah, you're expecting too much. It's the sound. It's the sound. It's the tonation. If I go, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, like that. So if it was called Stevie, you think you could just go, boop, boop. I think if I went like, so I've got a dog called Stevie, yeah? And every time I take it to the park, go, Stevie, do you want to go to the park? Stevie, like that. Yeah. If I actually went, do you want to go to the park, Stevie?
49:17Like that. Dog's going to do fuck all. No, because they react to the word park and stuff. So they know what park means. Yeah, but because of the way you say it. Do you want to go to the park? No, I've seen videos of people just going park. On TikTok, they don't. They're like, whoa. My dog, if you said dinner around it, it would like start going nuts. What? I think dogs can. And it would be like, shh. No, they do not. What if parks? Yeah. dogs know their name do we they do i'm gonna be brutal here stevie do we just want dogs to know their name yeah we do yeah yeah you do are we putting too much human emotion on these dogs and really they don't know their name but then you're saying like it's they're only getting it from the sound but the sound is their name if i said to you your name's jack dean if i went flat bean flat bean you would turn around yeah exactly that proves my point though no you wouldn't turn around yeah i'm saying i'm saying it's that maybe they know their name but they're going that sounds like my name it's not quite my name it sounds a bit like it great point from alfie so i'm saying they don't know their name they know the tonation because if my dog was called rapunzel right and i always went rapunzel rapunzel like that and then one day i went Rapunzel.
50:33Yeah. He's not going to know what the fuck I'm talking about. But then as Alfie's just... No, it's 2025 and a male dog can be called Rapunzel. Alfie's just said that you'd turn around to flat beam. I would turn around to flat beam. So if the dog's turning around to that, does that mean you don't know your name? I don't. I know my name. But you've just turned around to flat beam. You know the sound that you've... Right, let's get really deep. Let's get really deep. The sound, Jack, is just a sound that humans have made up and you have attributed to you. It's not just the sound though, is it? Because if I wrote it down, if you wrote it down...
51:11And that is just some squiggles that you've attributed to you. What is a name? A name is just... And my name's Alfie. And that's Stevie. And it's just stupid sounds that don't mean anything. But we've all learned to say the stupid sounds in the same way as each other. So does a dog know its name or does its dog know just the sound? Yes, but I'm saying everything is just a sound. Fair enough. That's deep. That's a good point. Everything is just a sound. I feel like this is one we actually need to Google. I'm not Googling any. These are our answers. But the issue is, it's like pigeons recognise faces.
51:49Like pigeons can tell the difference between people. They've done tests to prove that. If a pigeon can do that, a dog who is loved by a human knows. Knows. I've just Googled it. I've just Googled it, and it's replied with that weird sort of AI overview it does now, right? Yes, dogs know their name, learning to associate the specific sound with a particular person for calling for their attention. They can distinguish their name from other words, and their response depends on consistent training and positive reinforcement. Signs they recognise their name include running to you, lifting the head, and perking up their ears.
52:22So they do know their name. I just don't know if I agree with that, but yeah, fair enough. I don't know. I feel like I'm just wanting them to know their name so much that I'm just saying that. I think they're smart animals. They are smarter than you're giving credit for, Jack. Dogs are compassionate. Dogs have emotion. Dogs know when they're dying. Oh, that's horrible. Do they really? Oh, Teddy knew he was going to die. You're confident a dog knows when he's dying? And he didn't even know his own name? A million percent. But you don't think a dog can know a name? Because I think, right, I think knowing you're dying, right, is a biological feeling.
52:59It's a thing that is ingrained within your DNA. It's the battle of survival of the fittest, right? Yeah. We've got the survivor instinct in us. Knowing a name is a man-made human-taught construct. Do you know what I'm saying? But dogs don't have the concept of a name. No, dogs don't have the concept of time. If humans never existed, none of them would have names. But dogs have the concept of death, though, because they don't want to die. If you put a dog on a clifftop and said jump, it's not going to jump. But then how do dogs do those buttons on the floor that some of them are taught where they can go, I want food?
53:32No, that is bullshit. So they get food when they hit the red one. Yeah. Or that combination, don't they? Yeah, but they can do sentences. No, no, no. You're a smart guy. You're a smart guy. That's nuts, Stevie. I saw one going, I want cuddles. If I go red, green, blue, I'm going to get to treaty. They're not going, they're colourblind. I can finally talk. oh my god i've wanted to say this to you for so long it's not like that is it the chimp to do the sign language stop you're using outliers you can't use outliers when it comes to science but that means it's capable in their brain no stevie's watching these tiktoks right where it's like oh he wants he's gonna say what he wants for dinner yeah and he's gone they've done it 30 times and he's gone green and then it goes and it goes i would like some dinner please no but i'm saying he's saying he's talking he wants some dinner please he's saying please no i'm not saying they know the sentence but i'm saying they know how to associate that to get what they want yeah yes so how can they do that and go if i do this this this this i get this but they can't go that's my name but that is so much simpler than being able to memorize when you're apologizing to them i think they probably do how can you think they know that but not their name i don't i think they know the sound of an apology i think if you went to my final closing statement if you said to a dog jasper and then you went right jasper they wouldn't know you're talking about them with i have tested that theory yeah and it and it's kind of true because i sometimes would also like do the thing where you say like its name yeah and then no and it still comes my dog used to be called diddy obviously that name's gone terribly in recent years um had a fall off but um if i called it pity it would still come to me i'm saying dogs know their names you're both saying they don't aren't you yep no they don't uh you both like dogs more than me as well i don't i'm on the fence i don't really know but well you have to make a decision you're the you're the middle man i'm gonna say they Do.
55:38Because I think they know the sound and that's good enough for me. Okay. I think that's close enough to knowing their name. Okay, cool. Right, I've got... You guys, just to throw this out there, haven't agreed with each other. Wow. On any of these. We're forward thinkers. We don't go with the grain. You just go with me every time, don't you both here? Right. We can keep this one short if you want, because I believe we've discussed this before, but this is perfect for this kind of episode. Are we seeing the same colours as the other person but have given it a different name? I love that. Or is it impossible to tell?
56:13Impossible to tell, isn't it? Yeah. I asked the old optometrist. I don't know if there's a way you could ever know. Because it's like the dog thing where they press these things and they know if you tell me that wall's blue, I don't know if I'm seeing the same thing as you. Yeah. But I suppose our rods and cones and our eyes that help us all the light go in and see all of that, must be the same for all humans. Why though? You've got green eyes, I've got blue. But your iris isn't anything to do with what's happening on the back of the eye. Why do we have different colour eyes? I can't remember.
56:47Oh, it's melanin. It's the same as skin. Is it? Right. I've cut through an eye. Have I told you that before? Don't want to know. Pig's eye. Why? It's because I'm trying to train to become an optician. Pops. like sweet corn okay let's leave that there don't say like sweet corn that's terrible Alfie that is so bad you're putting me on the back now he's got now he's got to eat it and think of the ice so naughty you brought up this disgusting thing you did I'm going to make you think you're eating it every time you do your challenge that is harsh I'm going to come in and go I love cucumber corn on the cob is just all these eyes you know how hard it is to cut into a cornea though that's why it's called cornea you're a bit creepy oh yeah the front's called a cornea sweet cornea so let's just say are we seeing are we seeing different colours yes or no I think we are but it is weird because you know when like guests come in here and we go so yellow isn't it imagine they're seeing it as pink and we go so yellow but their whole life they've been told that's yellow but they're seeing pink but I guess colourblind people we know that because we do the Alfie's colourblind yeah because you can do the test can't you yeah Ishihara well I can't do the test Ishihara test can you not do the test yeah he fails it he can do it but he fails it can you get any of them right or not yeah a few of them right and then sometimes just like what's that like it's two you can't see it at all no wow it scares me that does it yeah I think the outliers are obviously colourblind people but I think for the most part we do see the same colours maybe ever slightly different shades I think the answer is the question are we seeing different colours in our brain but using the same name to name them is yes because I think Alfie's seeing different colours all the time yeah but that's an outlier isn't it But everyone has different quality of vision, don't they?
58:34And I think that will affect colour a lot. Think of a new colour. Can't do it. That really annoys me. Do you know, all aliens in alien movies are like something. So they're either like a bird or like a human or they have characteristics of things. Because our brain's so dumb, we can't think of anything we've not got reference for. you can't just think of a new really frustrates me that we are dumb perhaps anyone created something new in the first place what? they didn't who's the first person to think of an alien? but it looks like a little green human doesn't it yeah but who was the first person to go something from a different no no so you can think of some like you can make it different but it's always in every alien movie it's characteristics of like basically other animals Alfie what about if we are making up new things but the brain is just connecting it to the closest thing we actually know of that.
59:31Maybe. I don't know. Because what about, you know that film where they see like ink blots in the sky? Arrival? Is it called Arrival? Yeah. What's that, Alien? That's not like anything I've ever seen. No, but it's like, it's a shape. Yeah, you've described it as an ink blot. Do you know what I mean before? Yeah, but I mean, that's a new concept, but I'm just describing it. Yeah, you can think of a new concept, but you can't, like an alien, right? This makes me like go mad. An alien is probably a colour and a shape and a thing we cannot possibly imagine because we've never seen anything remotely like it.
1:00:04Can't be a different colour though, can it? Why? Because it's not possible. Why? Because all colours are within what we know. All colours are within light. Right. So we've already seen every colour there is. No way. That's depressing. Well, it's all just within the waves, isn't it? A spectrum. Yeah, so there's no... Oh, that sucks. I don't think there's... What, so in the universe? Even in the universe? Yeah, I don't think you could have an outlier to colour because it's light. All colour is through light. Oh, God, that's horrible. Okay. We are, by the way, chatting absolute shit for this whole episode and proper smart people will be listening to this going, I can't handle it.
1:00:40Oh, yeah. Try my best, mate. If you're proper smart, why the fuck are you listening to that? Yeah, that's on you. Yeah, that is on you. Stevie, you know how this podcast is usually like a lot of waffle and it seems like we're just making it up on the spot? Well, you say usually, mostly. Yeah, good point. However, I actually think that me, you and the wider Happy Hour team have learned a lot of interesting skills whilst doing this pod. Like what exactly? Not just comedy, mate. I'm talking editing. I'm talking storyboarding. We plan the episodes. I'm talking design, graphic design, where there's so much that goes into it.
1:01:16And that's exactly why we want to talk about all those skills we've learned along the way. And we can do that in support of the Teaching Further Education campaign. Yeah, that's it. Because if you are super, super passionate about what you do in your industry, you may already have the skills for what it takes to become a further education teacher. Well, what would you say is one skill you've picked up from the years of doing Happy Hour that you feel like you could actually teach someone now? Well, not just Happy Hour, but even on YouTube, I spent years and years and years watching people make Final Cut tutorials all about the editing.
1:01:49And I was always fascinated with what goes on behind the scenes to make a YouTube channel or a podcast. And I've taken that on and I've even taught Fiona how to do it now. So Fiona, obviously, when I met her working in a shop, she's come, she's joined our team and now she knows how to edit and she's, um, she's incredible at it. And not only that graphic design as well. I've watched so many different tutorials and stuff on Photoshop and, uh, Canva and all these different things that help make this podcast what it is today. Have you taught anyone else other than Fiona? I have mate, I have. So a couple of years ago my sister lost her job and she came to me for a little bit and said can I help her out and I sat down with her and I taught her how to make shorts.
1:02:35So a couple of years ago when, I know we're still posting Happy Hour Shorts but there was a big influx of shorts at that time, that was my sister who learned how to do that all through me sitting down and showing her final cut and all the different tips and tricks of the trade. So that was a nice time. Yeah, it's lovely. I love that. Well, you've got editing down. You've got the storyboarding down. You're a great interviewer these days. Thank you. You've definitely improved over the years as well, which is great. Is there anything else you're still thinking, I need to learn this? Right. So obviously we work with Josh, who you call Poster Boy.
1:03:05Love Poster Boy. He's phenomenal. He's so good at what he does. And I'm super happy to work with Josh and he's going to be with us forever, hopefully. But I would love to be able to do what he does. Obviously, I wouldn't take the job from him. I'd still let him do it. Sounds like you might take the job from him. He creates absolute art, that man. He's a wizard. I don't even know what program he uses, but it's phenomenal. He creates all of the individual episode artwork for every episode of Happy Hour. And I've seen the storyboards that he does before he designs them. And I've seen a whole process of how it goes from a blank page to that brilliant sort of episode art.
1:03:41Yeah, he's phenomenal. So if I could sit down with Josh even for an hour, I would love to ask him, how do you make such special pieces of work? Well, and now we're obviously fortunate enough that we get an array of guests who are teaching us all kinds of things about their lives and everything they do. I know. It's one of my favourite parts of Happy Hour, sitting down and learning about things that we would have normally had no idea about. Well, it just goes to show whatever your specialism is, whether it's in editing or audio or anything like that, you just never know how valuable that kind of industry work could be.
1:04:12That's it. And the best thing is you don't actually even need prior qualifications to start teaching in further education. As long as you've got the skills and you're confident enough to want to pass them on to somebody else, you can literally start doing it today and start earning money along the way. And it obviously doesn't need to be like an all or nothing thing either, because further education teaching does offer flexible opportunities. So you could carry on your current job and also teach part time. So why not consider sharing your skills and help inspire the next generation of workers in the field you love?

Can you ever really do nothing? can you ever let me rephrase can you ever really think of nothing no you can't can you i think some people might be able to though i think we're not capable what nah the only just said she thinks i am why brain brains are too there's too much going on because it went over your head i think people who meditate do don't they nah what are people who meditate i meditated for a year every day and i I was fucking thinking of loads of shit.
1:06:24That's what I'm saying though. I think they're like, that's the point. It's like, no, it's not. I don't want to think of anything. That's why I'm doing this. It doesn't. You just, yeah. Certain brains can, surely. Nah, nah. Because you're then conscious of the fact you're trying to think of nothing. But aren't they well good at becoming unconscious to it? You can be present. What? It's like, if you're really in the moment. Yeah. And you're being really, really present. your mind does clear because like i've probably thought about a few times here like even when we're chatting now like i'm thinking about what we're talking about or i'm sometimes right i think about like if i think about the train home so much right now i feel like i just almost transport there do you know what i mean i feel like it's already happened right i know what you mean i can't even really explain what i'm trying to say right so so this is this is such a fucking weird i don't know if this is the same as what you're saying right but this is how quickly time goes right so be really present in the moment right now that we're doing this podcast yeah episode i don't know this like 4 10 right how do you force yourself to be present in a moment right so like so like no no just be just be in the moment i'm sat here right now with you right it is currently a thursday we're in north london we are going to go home and get a mcdonald's on the way home you're going to get a train probably a fifth mcdonald's to you this week right we are present right and when you think now this is october the 23rd we're recording this when you think now it's recording our christmas special i'll bring that up right yeah i bring that up because fiona's going to remind us on the day of our new foods yeah before you know it right that's two months away pretty much yeah we are going to be sat there recording it and i'm going to be talking to you about this moment right yeah and when you think of it at the time i see what alfie's saying it is like we are going to click our fingers and be there and what and just ignore everything in between but what i'm saying is you will not believe how quickly i think i think that's i think that's because we're we've linked it and for the next two months we are not going to be present yeah for a single moment yeah and it will just whoosh by us yeah my that's why meditation is good because it does bring you back a little bit to like each day right i mean rather than like i i literally from my last week from now we'd have to really think what i did every day yeah right which is horrible like that really fucking yeah i could never meditate why i just couldn't sit and do it well because your brain would think i'd go crazy yeah even i don't know how you were present in moments like when you were saying about all that and you said all this stuff as soon as you mentioned my house i started thinking of my house well you're like and you're carrying on talking i'm still thinking about my house when i did it in a moment i don't feel like i am i feel like there's so much going on i can't fully focus in on a moment you probably would really like trying to meditate i don't know how i could though just get headspace and then it's like a guided one have you found yourself as you get older enjoying life's little things more like what so like when i was younger even when i was 25 right if somebody said oh do you want to meet up and go for a coffee right i'd meet up and i'd enjoy being with my mate and that but or let me put it this way if you sat in a cafe on your own and you drank a nice coffee right and you just looked at the leaves on the trees right as a 25 year old i don't give a fuck about that right i'm drinking a coffee because i'm tired and then i want to go to the waterfront on the friday right now if i sit down and i drink a coffee or drive into london today and i see the leaves on the tree are red because it's autumn i'm like whoa like i am now finding myself in i sit there get this coffee sip it wow that tastes so nice do you know what i'm trying to say here like i actually really do right are you just enjoying it or are you thinking about other things as well no sometimes i'll go fucking hell that is unbelievable and i'll just sit and you've got no stress on yeah nothing bad's happened you're just it's just like a nice little moment can't do that you can't do it no like the first the thing you just mentioned trees i had that exact thing the other day i was driving to tesco in norwich and on the way there i saw all these trees and it's at a point where they're browning on top but green at the bottom and i was like that looks so cool that the the thing but rather than just going that looks cool and carrying on my brain's instantly going do trees always go like that so are they do they start going brown at the top first and then go green down to the bottom then i'm thinking of the science behind why a tree does that you need to slow down what about when you eat nice food food you like do you ever just sit there with like next time you try and eat food like just turn your phone off turn the tv off and eat the food and enjoy the food can't well i can't watch me you can't do that because then i'd start focusing on the textures of it in my mouth and that would gross me out you have autism the textures not gross you out no no hate it i i I bake beans are okay taste wise, but the way they pop in your mouth.
1:11:27So I love burritos. Can't have pinto or black beans because I'm biting into something that shouldn't have something. What Texas do you like? Hard. No, I don't know. Cause I like rice and noodles and stuff, but like, I don't know what, maybe it's like poppy type thing, things that pop. I don't like that orange. I love the flavor of an orange. Can't do it because all the white stuff, the stringy stuff, gross. Creeps me out. I, there's, I like all, I think I honestly like all textures. because if you said to me like eat a slug i'd go oh no i don't like the texture but it's not the texture at all because if you gave me a dairy milk slug that was like but like it's not a slug it's like a new confectionery that they make that's filled with caramel and covered in slimy chocolate sauce i would eat that fuck it and like it do you know what i mean well do you know what made me realize even worse tech the worst thing about textures when i had covid and i had no sense of smell or taste at all trying to eat things everything i ate during that two weeks of nothingness going on here was purely based on texture because i tried certain things tried tuna because i'm not a big fan of tuna but i'll eat that because it's healthy one of the worst things i've ever done all you can see one of the worst things you've ever done in terms of eating a can of tuna you couldn't even taste in terms of eating texture grosses me out i it's like being wet as well like i hate that like a great like things make my skin crawl it's all it's autism with it i think um i don't know man if you're happy just feel like i'm being misdiagnosed yeah i wouldn't let jack diagnose it it's definitely the correct diagnosis i'm not qualified to tell you that maybe one of them are um making me think a lot of things what it's weird because what we're learning today right learning but what we're we're what we're theorizing is that a lot of these things are mental yeah so it's not that you don't like the texture so you're telling yourself you don't like the texture right because if i can eat battered cod from the chip shop yeah i clearly don't mind fish i think they're very different tastes i think that's kind of like it's not fake fish but they've done a lot to it why is it then why is it that when i'm eating fish i'm very aware like say i like a fish what about chicken's wings that's a good example right right well when i eat chicken wings right they're fucking gross if you think about it yeah but you love a chicken yeah i know yeah i like a chicken wing i'm going off them slightly a bit but like but like that is a chicken's wing yeah i'm pulling that like the meat off of the fucking boat it's gross right it's rank but i can do it but when i eat fish i'm going oh this is and i'm picturing a big carp going through the ocean slimy carp mouth open or gormless big eyes right i'm i'm picturing that why does one put me off and the other one don't put me off it must be a mental thing yeah i'm a hypocrite do you think as well you become like you say it so many times that you're like you're the guy doesn't like fish yeah right i don't like fish and i don't like it yeah and that's just me that's just who I am right do you like having that link to you though I love fish so I see what you mean I like being a fish guy it becomes the thing like oh Jack doesn't like fish yeah and then so then you just live it yeah you live it yeah I had that for years with a weird thing what's the guy from who's that actor very well from Barbie Ryan Gosling I've never seen a Ryan Gosling film ever in my life yeah so it got to a point where I was like I just can't watch a Ryan Gosling film now and it felt like I was stopping myself because you liked being that guy not even liked it.
1:15:06I was just like, I just feel like I can't now watch one. Sin Barbie now, so I can watch anything I want. But for ages, I was thinking, why the fuck am I doing that? Yeah, that is weird actually. It's like we were talking to a guest about this earlier, but like I, growing up, thought I was a movie guy, right? I've never been a movie guy. But like, you know when you grow up and you think I know my movies? Yeah, you want to. And I used to tell people Quentin Tarantino is my favourite director. I've never seen Kill Bill. Do you know what I mean? You say it weird. No mate, I'm so guilty of what you were just saying I'm a fucking poser Because if someone said to me Who's your favourite band ever, right?
1:15:44I would be thinking, it's Coldplay But I would be thinking, I'm not saying Coldplay So I'd be thinking of like, oh I don't know, the Stone Roses, name one song Don't know I do that all the time, it's so fake It is, isn't it? It's weird Do you want to know something weird? Speaking of weird things, I'm doing something so weird at the minute. So when I was feeling stressed out, I'd stick The Sopranos on Now TV, right? And I think I'd watch it really slowly. It's probably over a year. For the last three months, I've been on the last half an hour of the last episode, and it's not wrapped up for me or anything, and I cannot bear to stop watching The Sopranos.
1:16:30So I've never watched the ending of it. so what are you doing the last half an hour are you just watching something yeah i just start something new isn't that fucking and that's like because i'm scared of not how is it because i'm scared not having to fall back on it safety blanket mental that it's so weird i did that with prison break i loved prison break so much that i watched it right up until the third series somewhere around a halfway point and i would and i think there's only four series now or whatever but I would not finish the third series. I liked it. I even liked where I'd stop watching it.
1:17:06I'm like, what happens to him? What happens to him? But I can't bear to watch. What do you feel like will happen if you do watch it? The Sopranos will be over and I'll feel sad and scared. But won't you then just find something new? No, I will. There's no logic to it. So I'm the complete opposite. I watch things even if I think they're shit. Yeah, no, I don't do that. Once I've started watching it, I just feel like I need to know what happens. Yeah. It's the worst thing ever. I think about you a lot. Because that's one of your things you say. You're wasting your life. You're wasting your actual life.
1:17:38You're going to die one day. when you've put so much time into it as well. But no, but I'm saying like, say like, what was, like that, I spoke to you about the Ed Gein series I watched. There's this thing on Netflix about a killer. I watched it, yeah. The first couple of episodes were okay and it just got progressively more, worse and worse and worse. By the final episode, I was going, I do not want to watch this anymore. why am I bothering? I'm on the final episode, I just have to watch it. Stop them. I've put six hours in. Do you know what I've learned from this? You need to slow down and stop being so stubborn in these ruts you're stuck in.
1:18:12Yeah. You need, you will enjoy your life so much more if you don't watch that. You have watched box sets. You have watched series upon series when you don't like it. Yeah, I've seen a few that I didn't enjoy. You must be terrified to go into the new series. You only listen. Oh, mate. house house i finished it at last took me ages my god it was good i liked it for a bit and it just got so repetitive and so boring any therapists out there hit stevie up so repetitive so you need to honestly you know you know like if you get halfway through a series and you think you've already committed that much time and you think i've already wasted that much time right yeah think of it as i'm saving the the next one that would be good yeah would you that is no not that would be good do that would you walk out of a cinema halfway for a film of a shit i personally right so i am the worst person in the world at starting something and not finishing it right and it annoys the fuck out you never finished penguin did you no and i like that that was a seven for me yeah that's weird so but i would i one million percent would be the kind of guy to walk out of a cinema if i wouldn't like it the only problem the only reason i wouldn't is because i'd be with thee and should be fuming.
1:19:22Why did you not finish Penguin? Because it was a 7 out of 10 and I thought I've got other things I could be getting on with. You watched Mobland three times. I watched Mobland twice. The whole of Mobland? That's what I'm saying. Within a week. That's a waste of your time as well. I enjoyed it though. But then you enjoyed the Penguin. No, I watched it once. I would never, I would watch a film again but maybe not but I would never watch a series ago. I'm telling a lie. I've watched Peep Show once a year. I've watched The Office ten times. But to me, that's different because it's not intense. I'm laughing at the same jokes again, whereas you're watching this intense thing.
1:20:08If there's something I like, I'll watch it again with someone else because I'm being quite a stand there. The first time I watched it was when my sister stayed at mine last Christmas and then the second time I watched it was with Fiona because I'd just finished it and I was like Theo you've got to watch this it was great I wouldn't watch it on my own fuck that fuck that I have no idea what this episode is I can't remember the last time I was this invested on a podcast what was the question? it was something to do with no it wasn't that was not the last question can you ever really do nothing? oh fucking hell that's still mental I think no so did we all say no on that?
1:20:48yeah we all said no I've got one more we'll do real quick and then here's a little quip that I saw online. This isn't original thought. I've got to be honest, right? All electronics in our house are subscription. What do you mean? Because you have to pay for the batteries or pay for the electric bill. So your TV remote, you've got a TV remote on subscription. Because I have to keep buying batteries. Isn't it true though? It might only be$1.99 every four years. That's how they get you. You know, it's not just electronics. I was thinking that I've, as an older man now, I've got massively into bulk buying.
1:21:29So like, I'll buy all our loo roll for like over a month in advance. Like just, I just always have it in house. I'll get like 45 rolls rather than just going to the shop and needing it. No, just Amazon it or whatever. Can you see TikTok shop? Yeah. I'm such a boomer. I don't know how to do it. I bought some banging stuff on TikTok shop. You can actually get well good. Show me how to do it. Is bulk buying not the best thing ever though? I've got loads and loads of clove fabric softener for the washing machine at my house now. All the washing powder. I do it all. Bulked by absolutely everything now.
1:21:57I quite like going to the shop, you see. But then, do I not kind of have a toilet roll subscription? Yeah. So I have to buy that every couple of months. That's why on Amazon you can do the monthly repeat buy. Subscribe and save, yeah. I've done that a few times as well. Yeah, I do it with electrolyte tablets. But isn't that nearly everything, everything we have to buy that we repeatedly use we're almost doing subscriptions for yeah yeah so like when people go i don't want to pay my netflix subscription it's like oh but you're happy to keep buying that soup yeah but you can live without yeah yeah i can live without soup well that wasn't even one of my question because i mean i keep buying soup as well i don't even like soup that much oh this is the last one are you listening when you when you Are you listening to your own voice in your head?
1:22:43Are you listening to subtitles of your own voice? Oh, no. I don't know that. What? As in not when I'm talking. You leave here today. You go to get your train, right? You're walking down the street. You think, oh, what am I going to have for tea tonight? Are you hearing that in Alfie's voice? I think I'm just picturing my dinner and having a thought. No, no. You're saying worse. Maybe you are. Maybe we're different. But I have full conversation. I sometimes do. but if I thought what am I having for dinner tonight I don't think I'd think of the words I'd think of the idea of the image I it's just like I am just wondering what I'm having for dinner tonight I'm not going the words oh you don't go in your head you don't go what am I having for dinner yeah words aren't there too isn't there a thing where like some people if if I said picture an apple in your head some people some people can't do it yeah that scares me the people that can't I think I love thinking what an image because do you know what I'm I In my head, I feel like I can really picture something.
1:23:43If you think of Pikachu, I'd be able to think of it. Picture me naked. Literally am right now. I would have needed to see it before, but I could create a fake version of that. Okay, right. Bloody hell. Yeah. What is that? Yeah, it's a boil. Is it? Yeah. Keeps bleeding. It's just one boil, though. There's no penis. We're both all right at drawing, aren't we? We can both draw a little bit. I can think of a picture perfectly in my head of a character like Pikachu but if I tried to draw that without seeing it physically in front of me, I don't know what it is but I just lose it That's how I'm proving to you, you're not thinking of it perfectly, you can't be because otherwise you'd be able to replicate that on the thing you're not thinking of it perfectly No, because I can replicate it to a point but I can't replicate it like Your picture, you're just you're imagining you're picturing it, you're not though I am picturing it, I can picture exactly where it is and stuff my issue is that if it's here i can consistently look back at scale and stuff when i think of it in my head and i start drawing i'm then seeing that and it's throwing off my scale and everything in my head my therapist told me years ago that when you're thinking of a memory you're thinking of the last time you thought about it yeah you're not thinking about the original thing you're thinking about the last time you thought about it and it becomes a little bit less how would you ever know that though science if you're say say you're like your mum passed away and you had no photos of her yeah none ever right but you could get the world's best um sketch artist to draw her you could not explain your mum well enough to the sketch artist yeah have it drawn i'm not good descriptive stuff like you're thinking of pikachu right now but actually it's not that quite like yeah have you got the perfect image of squirtle in your head not squirtle no all right tell me something you can do then well pikachu's fairly easy all right but then how do you describe that what pose is pikachu in um let's do let's do oh you're throwing me off now that is hard isn't it let's do the one where he's leaping through the air like that okay right so um so you're picturing it yeah yeah so what angle are his two um is that is is uh kind of going back on himself slightly but both back yeah both pointing backwards not fully backwards but a little bit backwards because the air's kind of and not there's not one pointing straight up no not in the image i'm thinking right okay but surely i've seen so much Pokemon, like as episodes, you're not going to be able to find the exact image that I'm...
1:26:22You need a characteristic that doesn't change a Pikachu, like how many lines there, how many... Yeah, that's the issue. Describe Pikachu's tail to me. It goes... It's got a little... It's like a Thunderbolt. There's two different versions of Pikachu, though. One has a flat top, one has a love heart top. So the flat top is the standard one, which is Ash's one. Right, and then what's the colour of the Pikachu tail? Mainly yellow, but then it's got some brown on it. Where's the brown? At the tip. At the end of it? Yeah. Yeah, incorrect. Is it? Brown's at the bottom. Oh, wow. I'm thinking of his ears.
1:26:58That's why. His ears are black. You can lose at this, Stevie. It's all right. You're thinking Pikachu from scratch. You did pretty well. You can't perfectly imagine something. You can't. Well, anything. No, you can't. You can't. What about like a nap? I don't think you can perfectly, no. A shape you could. Yeah, a shape, yeah. But nothing with more description. That's weird, isn't it? that's why it's so hard for people to like these these artists that draw based on what someone's saying that's why the artist sketch is never going to be exactly what the person looks like there we go so are you listening to your own voice in your head or is it just subtitles i suppose it might be different i think voice i think i have conversations with myself i have conversations but i don't hear myself though no you're not hearing because sometimes and i know i'm thinking in full sentences because if i get angry say i stubbed my toe and i'll think in my head i'll be thinking god that fucking hurt sometimes a bit of it will come out so i'll go fucking hurt like that i'm thinking god that and then the last bit will come out yeah so i am actually speaking in full sentences sometimes it slips out when i'm walking down the street and then i catch myself and i think fuck i must have looked nuts and i just said two words out loud i talk i talk while i'm on no i do talk sometimes i'm literally going down the street and i'm just talking yeah like i look mental yeah on the tube earlier i was doing it i was writing something down and i was like i was like saying it yeah and i was like if you saw me now you think i was but that's that's all right though because you're trying to write something down so you're trying to work something out yeah but then i think i'm like i don't know what i'm doing i am maybe having an imaginary conversation sometimes it's nice to take the words out though yeah your brain can feel so like compressed so just saying it when you talk you don't think so much do you know when words are coming out it's hard to think of something different to what you're saying trying to do it now and it's quite hard but then if you just think you can think of loads of things at the same time yeah so do you listen to your own voice or subtitles i don't know i've i thought you were saying i think subtitles might be the right way i don't think you're hearing your voice are you i sometimes do yeah i don't know so here we go here are our shower thoughts for today that was got way deeper i liked it i feel like my head has had a little massage yeah and i don't know whether we're right or wrong but we're probably wrong we're probably wrong we're just saying stuff we've said stuff today and that's been good at the end of the day fish is a pet uh you're strong if you punch yourself and it hurts a straw has one hole water does have a taste dogs do know their own name we're seeing slightly different colors but but using the same word for them uh you can't ever really do nothing and you're not listening to your own voice in your head but you're listening to subtitles there we go this has been jack makes happy hour podcast So me, Jackmate, Stevie White and Alfie Indra.
1:29:39Enjoyed this? Yeah. Shall we go home and think about that? I want to stick then. Yeah. And there's nothing wrong with that. But you are. Don't worry. I'd go see a doctor rather than just... Just Jack. Yeah.

The boys unravel a stream of strangely curious but pointless questions - the kind that normally arrive when you’re zoning out while showering or, in Jaack’s case, sitting at a red light approximately 8 seconds before something crashes into the back of your car.
We’re pondering if dogs truly know their names, whether a straw has one hole or two, if a fish can actually count as a pet, and whether punching yourself and feeling pain makes you strong or weak.
Is the voice in your head really your own voice or more like mental subtitles narrating your life? Does everyone see the same colours as everyone else? Can you ever truly think of nothing?
