In short
The hosts riff on “Indra-spective thoughts” (deep-ish diary-style questions) after a chaotic start, mixing hotel/scam stories, existential hypotheticals, and gross-out anecdotes. They debate what happens if everyone stops paying rent/mortgage or tax, whether time/age are necessary constructs, why people like different foods, and why music evokes different emotions. They also joke about fitting all humans into a tiny area and whether “everyone jumping at once” would change Earth.
Guests
No guests appear. The episode is just the hosts: Jack, Stevie, and Alfie (with “Stevia” mentioned as Stevie).
Guest backgrounds

Key claims
Prostitution/escort legality is unclear; life-insurance “review” calls are likely data farming/scams; severe constipation can cause feces to come out of the mouth (feculent vomiting/copromesis); if everyone stops paying taxes, enforcement collapses and services like the NHS would likely privatize.
Notable examples
A hotel receptionist warns “you’re giving me too much information” during a check-in; a life-insurance caller knows Alfie’s name; a pregnancy story about “poo out of her mouth”; “ringpiece steak” (cow anus) being “technically beef” but not sold normally.

1:11jack mates happy hour hello guys welcome back to another episode me and stevia here as always um i'm looking forward to it i just get to put my feed up today why are you not putting any effort Do you remember last ep? Do you remember last ep when we was out with our mate Alfie? Yeah. Brown Derren over there. He was mugging you off, Stevie, quite frankly. You brought some stranger things. Yeah, I put quite a few hours of research into an episode and he basically just kept going, do it a lot. Urban Legends, everything. Just say it's shit. And Alfie reckons we don't need themes. We don't need to put on a podcast voice.
1:48We don't need to broadcast. We can just chill out and listen to Alf. So this is all on YouTube. today mate it's all on you how you feeling um not confident right well you know not being confident's not good because this does need to be an hour long funny you say that stevie got a timer here and we've just started it so you've got an hour to film you need to fill a full hour do you want us to help you before you get started just by doing a little bit of all caught up see if that can pass some of the time yes please yes usually you can kill 15 20 minutes do you have an idea of what you're going to do in this episode?
2:24Well, I just went for a sit-down wee and just wrote down some sort of deep thoughts I've had in the last five minutes and maybe we could discuss them. I came up with one last episode, so I've gone off the back of that. Okay, can we just quickly say for the listeners, this isn't a bit. This is a genuine thing. Last episode we basically said to Alfie, you do. I said I wanted Alfie to plan the next episode because he He clearly didn't care how much effort I put into planning one. So I was like, you do it then. You do it then. No, I'm excited. I'm excited. To show how easy it is to make an entertaining podcast.
2:57It's going to be so fucking annoying if this is better than the last episode. If this is brilliant, then Alfie's a genius. If this falls flat, Shane Effie 99, we're with you. Yeah. He's not listening to this one, though. No, I'm so sorry, mate. Oh, God. Okay. Well, yeah, before we get going. Ask me what have you been up to. What have you been up to? Not nothing, mate. Done fuck all on that. Have you been up too much, Alf? No. You're going to fill the hour well? You done anything, Stevie? Not really. I'll do a couple of quick short things. Not really. Don't need to be short. Tell us more. Not what you said last week about the meowing nuns.
3:34No. Tell us later. As we said in the last episode, Jack and I have been in London for the last couple of days. And obviously because we stayed here, I stayed in a hotel last night. When I got to reception last night, the weirdest thing was happening. I was just getting checked in by the guy at the desk and there was someone else getting checked in next to me. And the guy next to me was saying to the receptionist, he was going, no, it's all right. Like a twin room would be fine. Like we're both married. We've known each other for years. And the guy behind the reception just went, you're giving me too much information.
4:08I don't need to know. And the guy was going, no, no, no, no. We'd go back years. And like, we're both separately married. So it's absolutely fine. So he wasn't with his wife then? Wasn't, no. from what I could tell he wasn't with his wife but he was over explaining to the guy that it's okay for them to be in the same room because they go back years and they're both married anyway but I was just thinking like the receptionist doesn't know who you are or anything about your life Was the receptionist male or female male? Male Right So he'll know what's going on there But the person no but the yeah because the person the guy was checking in wasn't with him at that exact moment Oh He was alone so he had no reason to be giving this information, he could have just checked in and gone, cheers.
4:50Maybe they knew each other. No, the guy was going... What, the person behind the counter and him? I didn't get that vibe. I think if you were cheating on your missus and you wanted to book a hotel for a night away, you wouldn't book a room in a hotel in which you know the person behind the thing. No. What I think, can I theorise? Yeah, I'd love it. I think that the guy was booking a hotel and he was getting a lady of the night in. He was getting an escort in. And that's why she wasn't checking in with him. He'll go on a website. He'll book her. Oh, and he's saying weird. Yeah. Then why wouldn't he just be like, my wife's joining later, by the way?
5:24Or not say anything and just go, yeah, it's a room for two. Yeah. Yeah. That's the best outcome. Yeah. Yeah. He didn't need to. Even the receptionist literally said the words, you're giving me too much information. Is prostitution legal in England or not? Um, I have no idea. Don't know. Let's discuss it.
5:42I actually think, I actually don't know if it is or not it can't, no, no what are we saying? no, it's not, is it? no, but there are websites where you can are there? yeah yeah, you can buy, you can rent women that's a big difference isn't it? is it illegal? tell us more about these websites Jack well I know someone who's I can't say who like Bean? no, obviously not, let's not even go down that road I know a friend of mine who has used such websites why don't you just go on and click do you know what I'm talking about no that was so loud that was so loud you're gonna have to mute that I didn't hear it yeah he goes on their websites do I know that was loud I could hear you from over here Please don't leave that in.
6:44Oh my God. No, he goes on. Really? Yes, like instant service. They come and they service you. That's good, that. Deliverho. Deliverho. No, but that's Deliveroo, isn't it? Uber Eats. Uber Eats ass. That's better than what I was going to say. What were you going to say? I don't know. Something about downstairs or something. I don't know. God knows. Yeah, you could do... Lust Eat. No. Lust Eat. It's not bad. lust instead of just just eat ass stop adding ass deliveroo ass that'd be one for if you just want someone to eat your ass yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah very specific website that one yeah um door to ass like door dash yeah and another ass one yeah yeah yeah door gash door gash and that's a woman saying it yeah it's just fine that makes all of this okay yeah that's all of them that's all I'm saying yeah at the reception it was a bit of an odd one but also i stayed in a fairly nice hotel last night which will all make sense at some point why but um i didn't fit in there to the point that i was insulted by the receptionist when i walked in but as in you're too big
8:00it's all right the whole hotel would be physically impossible you'd have to be massive I prefer that when you Oh yeah Six minutes in Yeah Only six Right Yeah Key Go on then fat boy What are you saying I called you fat the other day Didn't I Yeah you did Oh come on guys Mental That must really hurt Like me calling Alfie Ginger Yeah that would be mental Yeah But anyway We're all a bit nervous
8:37I walked in in a hoodie and a hat like I'm in now and I went up and I just went I've just come to check in and to one guy, the other guy just randomly went oh when you walked in I could have never guessed you were checking in they just went I was never going to think you were checking in that is rude that's terrible service Because I have looked like shit and been in some big, posh, swanky hotels before. Never have I had a comment like that. Yeah. And I was just like, oh, yeah, I didn't know what to say. So I just kind of got on with it. And then a similar kind of vibe I got this morning as I checked out.
9:16He seemed really shocked when I was like, I walked up to reception, went, oh, just checking out. And he looked at me like that and went, just checking out. Okay. Why is he? Sorry, anyone can stay anywhere if they have the funds. I was confused by it. Wow, that's rude. That's rude. Like, I get that. I'm in like a... I'm getting a spam call. Do you want to take it? Go on, see what they say. Put it on loud. Just hoping this isn't actually... Hello? Yo. Hi there, this is Alfie. Yes, hello. Hi there, Alfie. Speaking to Riley here from Sensible, how are you doing? You good? Yeah, I'm good. How are you?
9:57I'm good, thanks for asking. So the reason for my thought today is that we've been out your review for your life insurance policy. Is that still in place for yourself? Ooh. My life insurance policy? Yeah, so we actually have one in place. When did I take that out? I'm not too sure. Maybe you had or maybe you hadn't, but your details should come up on my end for a review. I honestly have no idea what you're on about. So it must have been incorrect information? Yes. I don't think I have a license. You've never had a policy in place, not for sure. Don't believe so. All right, no problem. So I'll remove your details so this review wouldn't be coming up every year.
10:46Okay. You having a good day, though? I am, and you so? Yes, all right, just to work. Not so bad Yeah You know how it is But thank you so much For speaking to me today It has been a pleasure You take care You too Have a good day Bye Bye Bye You know how it is You were Probably the nicest person She'll speak to today Wow Nine minutes though Hello I'm going to call her back Is that a real thing then Was it I don't know No Was it not See, I'm aiming the call then. How do you know my name? Yeah, what's she getting out of that? Data farming. What does she get out of that? Maybe they're just trying to latch on to people.
11:31I don't know. People who go, oh, I don't know about that. Yeah. Well, you did say that. That's weird that she went, maybe you did, maybe you didn't. I don't. Okay, don't worry then. It's probably another life insurance company just trying to pull people over to theirs. But if you've not already got one, maybe it doesn't. Maybe you can't start up new people. Or if he gone, I have got life insurance, she'll go, yeah, we know, we're doing that. And then she'll go, yeah. So it's hard to pull in people who don't have it. She was nice, though. We're a scammer. Yeah. But yeah, so... Horrible, horrible scammer.
11:59I thought that was to live a ho calling you. Yeah, so that's that. Turns out I'm rank, and I don't deserve to be in a nice hotel. Well, fuck them. You can be in any hotel you want. Yeah. And then other thing. Yeah. I don't know if... Maybe I'm not smart, but I did not know this thing was possible. I learned the most... I'm still... I don't know how to say this. I found something out just before Christmas from... See, I said to this person, I won't say it's you on the pod. She said I could say it on the podcast, but I said I won't say it's you. No. You don't know any other women, do you? Your mum?
12:37No. Your mum or her? It's your mum. Okay, it's your mum. Sister? Yes. Yeah, right. Okay, one or three. No, you're allowed to know because... Oh, that's so sad. But honestly, I don't know any women outside of my circle. No. It would be weird if you knew women outside of your circle, wouldn't it? Yeah, that would be it. Let's discuss that now. But anyway, so I said, look, I said, can I say that on the podcast? She said, yeah, you can. Don't worry, I won't say it to you. And she went, no, it's okay, you can. Which I, when I tell you what it is, you're going to be like, why has she said it's okay to say it to her?
13:07Okay, I'm in. She told me, don't know why she told me this. oh so for some reason we were on the conversation a group of us dildos of constipation i knew it was going to be something i like talking about poo yeah well so maybe i'm by the way dildos was the thing that he spoke about with a yeah yeah i've not i didn't even question it when i said so i maybe you guys know more than me on this but when i heard this i was like what the fuck she told me during one of her pregnancies she was so constipated she pooed out of her mouth
13:59and i said I said to her, I went, what do you mean you pooed out of your mouth? She said, it was so bad, so constipated, that the only way for it to come out was up. And I said, how do you know it was poo? She said it just looked like a poo. It came out full poo. The bloke of The Simpsons. Trying to lighten the mood. Full poo out of mouth. Did you know that was human? Like a log? Yeah. did you know that was humanly possible no i didn't steve i didn't think it's shit out your mouth no like she literally shot her breath must have been bad i are she said it was well yeah smell like shit her own shit she was talking shit that's good as well isn't isn't that mental every time i look at her now i'm thinking you shout out your mouth i thought right this don't work yeah i think the way in which oh see cover your ears this is gross when you poo a log right yeah right but it's your bum hole making that log so it's all like it's all getting pushed out it's a throat log the funnel and then it's coming out like yeah it's all all inside it does load like the poo travels through like so people with big bum holes have big poo yeah and no i've just I don't know.
15:35I don't know why I'm speaking with any sort of authority on this at all. I've just put on Google, can you poo? And the first two are, can you poo without peeing? And can you poo out of your mouth? Yes, it's possible to poo out of your mouth. It's a condition called feculent vomiting or copromesis. It's serious medical emergency, usually caused by severe intestinal blockage or gastrocolic fistulas. where waist backs up so far it comes out of your mouth. So she was so constipated, the only way out was up. What, and a whole poo came out? A whole poo, man. I actually feel like I'm going to throw up.
16:14Is she going, and it's falling out of her mouth? Or is she just going, and it's coming out? I know this is a mental conversation. Oh, like when the seagulls regurgitate the sausage. I'm fully aware this is a mental conversation, but there's just no way I could not bring that up on here. Fuck me. Isn't that insane? That's made me feel a bit queasy. same I feel really queasy after that yeah just the thought of it all coming up like fuck yeah deliver poo that's a brilliant one it's good go on next one no it doesn't work so well with all your ass ones poober eats yeah um yeah just feces that wasn't good I've lost it lost it I'll sit down.
16:59Right, okay. Let's move on from that because that is making me shiver. We're all caught up, baby. All caught up. I did a noise as well that time. It's catching on. Do you want to do my thing then? No, we don't need... It's on you now. You're now heading this whole up. You just... You probably want a bit more energy. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Because the listeners will sort of encompass what you're giving off. Yes. So if you're going to this depressive, they will be depressive listening to it what have you come up with? I don't really know what this is do you have a name for it? I don't really know what this is
17:40that was good Fee came up with rolling Indra deep what was the other one we did? introspective thought these are basically right if I ever have a deep thought I'm gonna write it down in my notes and then just say it on the pod and just see what you think. Do you think this is a series? Yes. Okay, that's confident. I think what will happen is I'll say it and then, you know how on some pods they talk about really, really deep stuff and we talk about pooing out your mouth? Yeah. Maybe this could be our little avenue of like, intellectuals might tune into this, I'm hoping. Okay, so we're doing like a diary of the CEO.
18:24Yeah, I want philosophers to listen to this and people from all different religions, races, and we'll all just talk about life and society. And this is coming off the back of last episode, you saying what would happen if we all just stopped paying a mortgage? Yeah. Right, is that a good start? Yeah, so one of my points is what would happen, right, if we just stopped doing stuff? so what would happen if every human or a really large amount of humans yeah we're just like no mortgage no rent we're just that's it um let's live for free could you replace does that is that question specific to a mortgage could you replace that with what if everybody just um committed the same crime at the same time what if everybody just shop let shop what?
19:22No, I think it has to be stopping something. Yeah, mine's more of like a... A lot of these... Didn't pay tax if we all didn't pay tax. Yeah, a lot of these are like man-made limitations and rules we just all... Abide to. Yeah, just all the time. What would happen if everyone... You could say like, what would happen if we were just like, water's free? You don't have to pay for it anymore. Well, the water companies wouldn't... they'd shut down yeah and we wouldn't get our water no i think someone else would have to do it but so like with this it's like yeah the landlords lose out but then they're also living for free everyone's living do you know what i'm trying to say could we is it possible and we're not allowed to google the answer because i think we could google it and they go no because of this yeah we've put this system in place where we have to pay to live somewhere right so everyone who's in their house right now yeah so homeless people are fucked yeah they're not getting another house ever right they're there till they die on that cold step right let's no we are thinking about them no no no we don't need to that's not on us we're just saying what would happen right if everyone now living in a house now so what would happen if everyone just went just woke up tomorrow and just went yeah we're just gonna live here i'm not paying my rent anymore i think your thing where you've just said landlords aren't gonna get the money but then they're also getting their place for free doesn't work because they're working for a profit not to be able to just pay their own rent they want money on top and also their job might be just getting rent off people they might not have a job so yeah so they're the ones that are losing out but still what if yeah still what if what because like my mate's an estate agent and he said people can go months and months and months without paying rent and landlords actually find it really hard to evict them from the property right so people do do this but what if a billion people just went no we're not doing this anymore i don't know where i go with this no i know i know it's like that's just a deep thought i've had we all do it don't there's no way i wouldn't pay my rent you know what i mean there's just no way i wouldn't pay my mortgage so so that is a that's like more of a civil matter than a legal matter right so the landlords would have to try and get their tenants out and they them so let's twist it a little bit and let's say the tax one yeah you can go to prison for not paying tax okay yeah but what if every single person on the planet yeah just stopped paying the tax there's more average joes like us than there is people in higher positions that can put us in jail so they there's not enough jail space you can't put everyone in jail can you yeah but then the issue with that is that that tax money would go towards things like the police and stuff for that.
22:10NHS. And then we'd lose a lot because then that money is now just gone. We'd all have more money, but... I'm not saying it's good. I'm just saying what would happen. That's what I'm saying. What would happen is that things like the NHS would have to go private. We'd have extra money, but now we've got to pay for life health insurance and stuff. Yeah, but would we not go to prison? Not possible, is it? Not if every single person has decided to. The judges, mate. They've said it as well. Yeah, literally every person. anyone who runs that law are also not paying their tax so let's say let's say all right excluding police officers and people who work to who put the rules in place yeah the police officers don't do they but but the governments do so the governments and the police are the same but all normal people us we don't pay tax anymore the police can't enforce it so like how so it would essentially be people kind of trying to take a stand so i think these people would start going okay they're not paying because of this and they'd start to try and figure out how to convince people to pay again i think that would be the next step wouldn't it this episode is brought to you by ebay i love ebay almost as much as you love football cards and i do love football cards stevie you just in my house haven't you i have got piles and piles of collectibles the annoying thing is though i've got quite a few swaps well seeing as it's free and pretty easy to sell on ebay why don't you just sell some of those cards?
23:36There'll be loads of people out there who want some of those. That's a good point, Stevie White. I mean, I love all of the cards. That's why I collect them. But when you've got two of the same one, that second one is just not as special to me as it could be to someone else. Well, do it then. Why are you still talking to me? Whack it up on eBay and get some of that money. Yeah, I'm already dreaming of the bids flowing in. When it's this easy to sell for free, you can't help but say when it's eBay. 24:48If a million people just killed a million people, so that one person killed one person, you can't put a million people in prison in the UK. that's a good one so what do they do? what do you do? I don't know we kind of just live life hoping that things like that aren't ever going to happen if anything massive suddenly happens it's going to cause shit and if loads of the same thing happen separately at the same time it's going to cause an issue yeah I think if everyone jumped at the same time it would cause a problem wouldn't it? there's a YouTube video about that what happens i need to know the end result retention weren't good enough i didn't get to the end outweighs the it'll like if everyone jumped now it would twist the world a bit wouldn't it i can't remember what would happen it was saying like even when you jump i think it's slightly i'm gonna i'm gonna have to just do this i picture that because i think the whole population of the world is quite small in comparison to like i think you could fit all what are we on now 8 billion yeah pushing 9 maybe whatever I think you could fit all of that amount of people in quite a small location that's a great one where could they fit where could 8 billion people actually fit I think it would be smaller than you think like smaller than North America I reckon you could probably get 8 billion people in the UK if Keith Starmer's got anything to do about it we'll have next week next week okay what's your jumping don't bring it down because intellectuals are listening to this we're apolitical no what am I trying to say yeah we're neutral in this discussion I asked Google what would happen if everyone jumped at the same time short answer, almost nothing dramatic would happen there we go the combined mass of all the humans is tiny compared to the Earth when everyone pushes off the ground the Earth is pushed very slightly in the opposite direction but the movement would be microscopic far smaller than an atom no wobble, no orbit, no change, nothing that is still cool can you quickly just ask Google what location could every human on earth fit into?
26:59This is a brilliant episode so far. This is brilliant. I don't know if it is because we don't have any of the answers. If we were smart, this would be brilliant. Yeah, that's the issue. We're not smart enough. That's just another podcast. Yeah, that's not happy hour. That's infinite monkey cage, isn't it? I don't know what that is. Is that a podcast? I don't know if it's not you've just come up with the maddest name it's Brian Cox and the bloke that used to do stuff with Ricky Gervais what's his fucking name yeah he's just quit though I think he there's a controversy around it wasn't he what the fuck is that guy's name he's good we can't even think of that how are we going to do these I'm going to think of it because I actually like that guy are people going to be listening to this and just thinking these three are too thick to have these conversations that's the whole point learn with us comment we're working it out We're asking Google, PT.
27:53Right. What location could every human on Earth fit into? If you mean fit, as in standing on the ground at one. Yeah, perfect. Then the answer, Google's very in-depth these days. Step one, rough space per person, blah, blah, blah, blah. Right. Give us country.
28:13Delaware. A small US state. Delaware. Mad. So what if we put... No, I'm taking one step further. Food, toilet, water, heat. No, we just wanted to know how many humans you could fit in. What if every single human was in Delaware and then they jumped? Because that's all jumping in one specific location on Earth. This is brilliant. No, because... No, we get a limited amount of Googles an episode here. Okay. I'm going to put a rule down that we get... Yeah, 10 Googles. No, we get three. Well, I've done two. Don't Google that. No, we need to know because, look, the first question... The audience can tell us then.
28:48Oh, but the first question is... Why are we limiting this? Because otherwise this is just going to be Google series. Like the boys Google stuff today. Okay. Let's not Google any of your future ones for this episode, but we need to know because the first jumping question, they're all jumping from different places on earth at the same time. I guess we're already all on one side of earth really. Everybody could fit into the UK. Definitely. Did you ask? No, I didn't ask. I just assumed that like the UK total area is like 244 ,376 kilometres. That's a good assumption to make. just guess that and then the current world population according to sort of like world emeter on january the 8th i'm just making this up is is 8.27 billion so but if you uh the density is 8.27 billion you have to divide that by i'm just mentally mapping this so it's 8.27 billion divided by 244 376 is obviously 33 800 people per kilometer yeah um and that's 0.34 people people per you're ruining my episode sorry square each inch each says square each in my brain fair enough well at least you didn't waste a google on that one alfay killed some minutes though thank you what's the timer on so a lot the aim of the aim of this episode is not to come up with an answer because it's always going to be don't know it's just our thoughts we're just discussing okay that's fine don't say that because i got a lot of hate for my theorising before.
30:19Why? Just people saying, stop saying you're just theorising all the time. Well, we are. Yeah. Shit. Okay, so that first one was what would happen if we all just stopped doing things? Stop paying a mortgage, stop paying rent. Jack's had enough. I think the action... See you later, mate. I don't blame you. Oh, we'll wait a second. Oh, thanks. Go on, carry on. Let us know when the cameras get messed up. Let us know in the comments that I want this to be fluid. If you want to get up, get up. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Stop leading this. stop leading this I think the actual your question I think the final answer to that would be things would just have to constantly change if everyone suddenly did something the first thing that would need to happen is to try and get them back to that thing as quickly as possible and the only way to do that is to convince people to do it again do this by the way when you're talking which would be to make things change so they're going oh no one wants to pay their tax anymore but we need people to pay their tax to make things work who's they?
31:16the man the man so they're saying we need people to pay their tax or things aren't going to run smoothly how do we get everyone paying their tax again make them pay slightly less they'll be willing to it's like if everyone just everyone who can't drive who doesn't have a licence everyone just gets a car just get in the car now what are they going to do what is DVLA going to do and so what I want to ask the audience is what would happen and could it happen comment below So thank you. Okay, on to the next then. Second one I thought of. Is time made up? And what would happen if we stopped living in minutes, hours, days, months, years and just lived in one straight line?
32:00So no one's got an age. We do just live in one straight line though and we just use time when it comes to documenting things. Well, what would happen, right, if we were just like, year's not a thing anymore, I'm not 29, we're just going to... well we kind of you can do that time is a human construct people say that all the time we've created the idea of time because it's the only way to make sense of things but we don't you don't live by time do you? yeah we do I think we do and we go to bed and then you start work at I think you could why don't you try and live a week without time you can't so we don't live a time yeah but I've theorised and I've come to a different conclusion I didn't see you I didn't see you stroke your chin so I didn't realise so we do it do you reckon it started off for things like farming yeah yeah red sky at night shepherds are light red sky in the morning shepherds warning does it go back further than that got nothing to do with sailors warning because don't they say wasn't there a Mayan calendar yeah so that's a whole and if they've got calendars that's long before what the what we didn't have years forever though did we I respect you there sorry we didn't have years until Jesus well because we go 2000 BC before Christ so 2000 years before Christ if someone was in a field I'd go what year is this I don't know but no one would have even thought about it yeah they wouldn't have even thought about it and they were probably happier yeah they probably wouldn't have cared that's what I mean not confined by algorithms and routine This is how I wanted to get you thinking.
33:42Yeah. They would have just gone... I'm so happy you just said the word algorithm. This life we're living is one big fucking algorithm and we need to get out. Get me out. Please. They would have just gone like, oh, it's probably going to snow at some point. Yeah, but... But they wouldn't have gone, it's going to snow soon because it's near the end of the year. They would have... Even without having a numerical time system, they would still be aware of time because they would go, these crops are ready for harvesting because they know summer or autumn's coming. So they would know, they would know that the seasons are coming and stuff like that.

34:18Time, you have to have time. Turns out you have to have time. Time makes sense of everything. Everything, time is everything. You know, so like my nan, what am I trying to say here? You know, I'm 29. Yeah. If you thought of age as like, dying of old age is a hundred percent and we go by age by how close our bodies are to that yeah right so i'm 29 but someone else that's 29 might have the body and organs of a 40 year old yeah well it's like that fella in it who thinks he's de-aging you know that fella yeah is that what you're saying or not yeah like my nan yeah is probably as chipper as like a 60 year old but she's 85 right so she might be on 85 percent whereas that 60 year old could also be on 85 percent yeah so why are we putting numbers we put ages on ourselves you don't know when you're gonna die do you but why do we have to be an age that's just a way to quantify who you are that's what i want to get to the nub of it well all of it is just to make sense of everything we've done it to make sense like cavemen weren't weren't going it's july they're just going i need to go kill and they weren't going i'm 43 no what i'm saying is were cavemen doing that though were cavemen go in cool I don't know he's like you're old yeah they knew they must have known what's up you're old like obviously not saying the words but aware of someone being old and someone being very young yeah but then there's this but like people will go oh I I can't do that I'm 40 can't do what I don't know go to a club or like yeah or like oh Salah's or like Ronaldo's still really good for 40 but why are we comparing his 40 to someone else do you know what I'm trying to say it's meaningless I've lost it I don't know what I'm trying to work out in my head I don't know what I'm trying to work out in my head I'm not sure this is pissing people off Alfie no I know it's terrible I'm not enjoying it what's the time on 33 33 in half an hour okay let's scrap that one Because that's actually just upsetting me.
36:51Yeah, I think that's a struggle. I think we need time. We're literally using a stopwatch to make sure we can time this correctly. Because otherwise, say tomorrow I went to you, oh, can you meet me tomorrow, right? All right, let's try and plan a meeting time tomorrow without using time. Right? How do we do it, Alfie? When the sun comes up. That's what they would have done. But then that is, are you using time in a way? Yeah, but when does the sun come up? Is it the first little beacon of light that you see? Is it when the full sun can be seen in the sky? do you know what you probably have to do is just say i'll meet you here and then you just get there at massively different times and just wait yeah but that's not what you want and that's not what no i know but that's what would happen isn't it yeah that's what they used to do though we'll meet at noon we'll meet at the at dusk like how do you know when noon is then the sun is that its highest yeah i'd look at it i guess probably now they would have had sundials 10 i'd be like what they would have had sundials yeah sundial that's good answer but that's time that's showing you time based on the shadow of the sun.
37:49Yeah. Mate, this is a... We're not... This is shit. We're not qualified to answer it. We need a smart person on to give us the answers. Well, there's going to be smart people listening. This next question will win everyone round. We need to do this episode again, but with Dara Ennis. But I still don't understand it. We need to do this episode again, but with Dara Ennis. Yeah. And then that makes sense. Okay. Do you want me to call him and ask him? No. All right, he's probably working. what would i ask him why do we have time he's working he's on break we must know someone smart enough to ask yeah dara ennis i'll ask him why don't you send him a voice note yeah i'll send him a voice now what what shall i say which one do you want to do telling them we're having an existential crisis on the podcast we're just send a voice and we're having existential crisis on the podcast we're trying to we're trying to hello mate um just here with uh stevie uh and alfie we're doing a podcast and we're the the aim of this particular episode is that we're trying to we're being smart we're theorizing things and we're stuck on a couple of things mate and we're wondering if you could kindly shed some light on these things much like you do on your brilliant podcast so the questions that we need answering stevie what are they mate um do we need time because time we know time is a human construct but how could we live life without time do we need ages.
39:12Do we need anything like that? Do we need to say I'm 32? Does it matter? And also, what would happen if everyone in the world just decides not paying tax anymore? Everyone. So the government are trying to enforce it. Tough luck. Billions of us are not doing it. Thank you, mate. Sorry if you're really busy and we're just wasting your time. Yes, we are. Yeah, you ended up with time. So you couldn't even do that. Couldn't even get through a voice note without using time. Wasting your life. That seems too dramatic. That would have been so funny if he's like, I've got three here. Two are really shit.
39:46Okay, shall we go shit? I'm going to do a non-shit one. What, and then finish on two shit ones? They're not shit, but they're just like... They're a bit like the time one. I think if we consistently say it's not good, they get into that mentality. So we need to really say it's great. No, I think I'm interested by them. Say these are brilliant. I can't, because I don't want to say them and then people think he thinks they're brilliant. I think they're interesting. Okay, that's all we need. That's all we need. We're going to make them brilliant. I think I've done this one before. Yeah, okay. This I am genuinely interested in.
40:21This is good. Right. This is good. Yeah. Let's just gaslight them into thinking this is good. Yeah. Why do we not all like and dislike the same foods? We all have a tongue with taste buds. Things are bitter. Things are sweet. Things are sour. why do I like the taste of something that Stevie doesn't like the taste of? Couldn't you use that in any context? Couldn't you say, we're all human beings. Why do we not find the same human beings attractive? No, but he's narrowing it down to specific small little things on your tongue. Yeah, like that's less. Why is taste subjective at all? Why do we not all like chocolate?
41:09is it because so like Stevie doesn't like sweet corn does sweet corn remind him of a bad time in his life or did he have sweet corn and then got really ill and then it's got, do you know what I'm trying to say why don't we just all like and dislike the same thing? Is it like, is it nature or nurture? Is it an evolution thing or maybe not evolution but like ancestry is it like, because obviously people in different cultures like certain foods where we might try something in another culture and be like oh that's so, because we're not used to it it's what you're brought up on right it's what you've been eating ever since you were young you sort of grow up to which means are we all able to like the same thing yeah i think anyone you have to get past which is a conversation we've obviously said about all needing to try and eat foods yeah i think there's a guy on um instagram or tiktok i watch and he eats the most most repulsive food you can imagine yeah daily because he reckons you can train yourself to like anything so he tried he's been trying that really horrible like stinky fish you know that where you and it all looks like guts and stuff you throw up as soon as the can's open I could open the can downstairs in the cafe and you'd smell it up that bad and he's been buying that it's got like a Swedish name I can't quite remember the name but he's been eating it daily on TikTok the first day he opens it he's like dry heaving can't get it in his mouth he's been doing it every day for like a month or whatever and now he can just nom it in so you can you can yeah why so two but then me and my sister don't like might like different things we were brought up on the same food but if you were if you were consistently uh yeah that's a good point me and my sister don't like yeah why yeah but were you brought up on the same food to the point like no but like if if as a kid she had the first thought of i don't like that did your mom instantly go cool she doesn't like that but in reality if she just kept making her eat it she'd then like it but why did she instantly not like it at the start that's what i mean but then someone else might have it and like it the first time it's like you're thinking aren't you stevie yeah you are thinking i'm thinking my cousin reese is a foodie right yeah he's always he'll go all around the world eat anything you give him right pig's head he'll eat that yeah he does he cannot eat baked beans right that's so strange blows my mind because i love baked beans that's strange as well Why?
43:33I just don't think it's a thing anyone can love. Yeah, on a fry-up, baked beans, oh, make everything else tasty. I like baked beans. No, I like it. I just don't think anyone can go, I love baked beans. But I can't wrap my head around it. Bland. He will eat snails. He'll eat raw fish with their heads on the eyeball of the fish. All this stuff. But he cannot eat a baked bean. Yeah, that's mad. I know taste is subjective. That's what we're trying to work out. But objectively, a fish eye is going to be more disgusting than a baked bean, right? Yeah. right there. Yeah. So why can't... Yeah, but why?
44:03Why do you think a fish eye is more gross than a bean? Because you're not used to it. Whereas in some like maybe Scandinavian countries where they'll eat fish a lot more. Yeah. Probably might go baked beans not for me. They might go, what, there's a bean in sauce? What the fuck? Yeah, like Americans think it's where we eat them. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm not a massive fan of baked beans, but I'll eat them. But I won't have pinto or black beans or anything like that. So I think that's a completely different thing. even though it's not really is it would you eat a burger if I now got you a burger from this new takeaway place yeah it was like a cheeseburger and I went that's got that's got hooves and arsehole in that would you eat it no I would eat it would you yeah because that's probably what I've been eating anyway yeah but if you don't know it if it looked like a burger yeah if it looked like a burger and they went that's gonna taste like a normal burger yeah but that's hooves and arsehole I'd go because how do I how the fuck do I know what is in my burger from McDonald's.
44:59I have no idea. 100 % beef, mate. British beef. Yeah, arsehole's beef. Right, and that's why we can't do this episode. Why? Because we come out with arsehole's beef, which doesn't happen on these other pods that I'm listening to. And arsehole's still beef. Arsehole's not beef, though, is it? Yeah, I know, but that goes without saying, doesn't it? Arsehole's beef goes without saying. They don't care to mention it on the other pods. But that's why we're being real. Is it real? We are being real. Are we? if you yeah if the diary of a CEO guy there from from a farm he'd go even the even the anus is is technically from the no he wouldn't though because Stephen would go I know it's on the cow no hold on he's saying it's not beef this idiot you're saying it's not beef no I'm not saying that I'm asking because I'm not sure you know arsehole is beef no but you know if it's a cow arsehole I'm so sorry that's my yeah not all arseholes beef a pig's arsehole is pork no But this is what I'm asking is, you know, when you go into like a restaurant and there's like a cow up on the wall and it shows you like an image of a cow and it'll be a diagram.
46:05Start with that. Okay, sorry. I've never seen a cow. But have you been to like a steakhouse or whatever? And there's an image of a cow on the wall and it's cut down. It's got, it's like a diagram. Yeah. And it shows you this is the flank. This is that. It's all beef. Is it all beef, including arsehole? But they're all just types of beef. Sirloin, flank, rump, stuff like that. That's all beef. You know you've got one Google left? Is cow arsehole beef? No! No! Is cow arsehole beef? No, I refuse. That's the best Google we could have used all up. Is cow anus... Still beef. Still counted. Still classed as beefy.

And golf balls priced so you can afford to lose one. Or a few. Head to Sierra or Sierra.com for the brands you want at the prices that let you do it all. From athletic to athletic-ish, Sierra's got it. I think it is. It just has to be. I don't know it is still classed as beef unfortunately for your information here's why beef refers to meat from cattle regardless of which anatomical anatomical anatomical part it comes from the anus is part of the cow's body so by definition it falls under beef however while it is technically beef it is not sold or eaten as meat in normal food systems yeah we know that wow beef arsehole so you won't find rump steak sirloin ring piece cut
48:25Ringpiece Oh my god Google's just made the best joke of the day Ringpiece steak Biologically beef culinary disgusting Wow Yeah Wow Cool You've learned something What was the original question? Why do we not all like the same food? And we found out by theorising that a cow's arse I was still big Would you eat ringpiece steak? Yeah I would I would because right this is where i was getting at and this does come back to your point what why do i give a fuck right if i'm eating a cow's belly right why do i give a fuck if i'm if it's a cow's belly or a cow's bummol yeah why do i get i'm eating yes animal's belly no because so loud for the people in the back no but you're in a cow's belly it's disgusting no but then you do care like if you go and get a steak you have a preference of steak i like because of the taste but I don't go, I'm not eating rump, but I'll eat a bit of sirloin.
49:24It's just because I like the toughness of the sirloin. Ringpiece steak would be tough as well, probably. Yeah! I'd probably love it. That was gross, isn't it? I'd probably love it. Give me a ringpiece cut. I wonder if we can ask a butcher to get that sorted for you. I know you're saying it out loud. That could be episode two. that might be the only thing keeping this alive maybe when I go to do that sausage I'll find out can I get ring piece did you hear about this did I tell you about this yes yeah brilliant yeah I think it's good yeah alone just me on my own going to make a sausage yeah just has he told you that it conveniently falls on the same day as Molly's birthday Fiona's best friend's birthday and I've got to go 30 miles to a farm at 6pm yeah time doesn't exist though good okay so why don't we all that one has an answer I reckon that bit we've just done there is the best bit of the podcast you said it would be interesting you were right keep it coming I think that one of all of them so far will have a definitive answer why we all like different tastes but we don't know the answer will I delete my voice notes to Dara and ask him that one because that seems more no because I think that one anyone can google but I think Dara will have a good answer So should we Google that then just to let them listen?
50:48You wasted it on arsehole beef. Okay. I've just thought of another one as well. Not all arseholes are beef. Remember that. Are we on? No. It's the one I've just thought of better than these ones. That's what I'm thinking. Some of these are mental, like genuinely. Wouldn't you just say the one you thought of? The one I thought of, right, I'm going to get a bit musical here. Okay. So I do know some things about this, but I don't know the ultimate nub of why. Why do some songs and chord progressions and melodies make us feel happy and others make us feel sad and others make us feel pumped up? At the end of the day, music and notes and all of this shit is just someone going like this or like this and making random noises, right?
51:41that to our brains sound nice together. Why does a sad piano song, why is that sad? And why is something else happy? Dum, dum, dum, dum. Perfect. Why does that evoke danger? Not to make this one even harder, but does the taste thing, but like a different form of taste, also come into this? Because there will be people who love heavy metal. And when they hear that, that makes them happy. Can I just quickly tell you, going off that, you know a couple of weeks ago we were talking about I did that speed awareness course? I've just remembered this, right? Have you ever done a speed awareness course?
52:21No, I've got one coming up. Have you actually? Why are we all doing them at the same time? I've got one on Monday. Have you? I've got one at the end of the month. I did one on Monday. And you zoom in and you see everyone else on the call and you have the whole call, right? And you know I told you about there was an older guy that had a bad neck and he had to keep standing up? That guy. he he said to someone right um this woman went oh um we're talking about the dangers of driving and um the guy went oh what are you supposed the the guy who's doing the course he went what are supposed to do if you feel really tired at the at the wheel the obvious answer is pull over right get us get a kip or whatever and this woman went oh i hate it because when i'm on the motorway it's like a metronome so i always feel more tired even when i'm not tired and this old man blessing he went um guys he goes this really helps me when i'm tired he goes but if you just it's the worst it's the worst suggestion so did you just put on really quiet classical music lullabies classical music I was looking, he's totally serious.
53:30And everyone's going... And he goes, I just put on quiet. He goes, classical music. He names the stage in Classic FM. And he goes, and that really just gets me going. What did the guy running the thing say? He called him out on it. He went, well, that might not work for everyone, David. That wasn't the actual name. Yeah, it might not work for everyone, David. And I think he even went, for me, that wouldn't necessarily... that's so weird I thought you were going to say heavy metal no you said classical music that's so strange the worst suggestion where were we music music but yeah I'm not necessarily saying about so like songs can remind you of scenarios right yeah so you might have a song from a bad time or a good time in your life that means nothing to me but that brings you back there I'm not talking about that I'm talking about actual physical dun dun dun dun yeah why is that danger is it because it sounds like a predator.
54:28Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Is that it? Is it to do with tempo? Is it to do with heart rate? I think that one's harsh as well because I reckon someone who's very talented could take the dun-dun-dun-dun and turn it into like a dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun Yeah, Bill Bailey does that. You change it into a major key. And it's suddenly nice. But, so like a minor key, right? It's just so hard to explain. But like, Minor keys are ones which are more like negative. Oh, okay. And major keys are your like, do you remember the 21st night of September? So like those ones make you, they evoke more happiness and positivity.
55:12And the minor keys might be like, hello, darkness, mild friend or whatever. I don't know if it isn't a minor key, but it probably is. that gives you negative emotions what is that triggering in us it's obviously like a huge music theory thing isn't it so is it possible or has it been done before where a musician can make an extremely happy song in a minor key is that doable or is it almost like if you're in the minor you're gonna have no well don't know people out there if you had it upbeat maybe but can you do an upbeat minor or does it sound jarring my cousin franco phrase has a song called treasures right and it's a love song but written about all the negative parts of his relationship yeah but how even the negative parts of the relationship make you what you who you are and it's sung almost in a sad way but it is it provokes happy feelings but that's because of the lyrics but does the feeling of the song if you took out the lyrics and you just had it as a melody would you think it's a happy song or a sad song if you didn't know what the lyrics were you wind me up so much but you're still the one for me i don't know sad yeah but it's that's not like like so is it ignoring lyrics just melody can you make a minor key song super happy don't know why do you play lullabies to babies why don't they go to sleep to black sand yeah i reckon some babies will yeah i think that i think that's a nurture thing my mate's baby will only go to sleep to jenny from the block how mad is that that is mad so on his spotify wrapped it was just jenny from the block i used to when i worked at um a day center like um people from they all had autism they come from they're like assisted living to our day center this was It was like 10 years ago.
57:12There was this old man, nonverbal, and so he couldn't really communicate. He'd click and like bang his chest. But he loved old music, and you could kind of tell it was making him happy. But when you play, I can't remember what it was. There was this one song, and it wasn't even a sad song. But if you played it, and obviously you'd never play it, but they worked out every time this song came on, he would cry and no one ever knew why lived experience lived experience but isn't that association isn't that like really how we connect ourselves to music do you know what i mean like the brain is that a very human thing yeah yeah it's music very human because imagine obviously i don't know the person but imagine that situation where they're crying to this happy song but that's because that's the song their dad always played when they were younger and their dad's dead now or they would get like abused and that song would be on in the background so that brain's connected to that I think we all have songs that we it could be that but then there's other emotions like Fix You by Coldplay when it goes into that at the end makes you feel really uplifted that's a really nuanced feeling that's not happy or sad that makes you feel really a certain way it feels powerful And the first time I listened to it when I was a kid, I remember listening to that for the first time and feeling really uplifted by it and almost being like, whoa.
58:48Yeah. Like that's tapped into an emotion I've not even really felt. But how does that song do that to us? Maybe you were already kind of feeling that emotion at the time and that drew you out of it. Like, I don't know what it, but like. I don't know. You know, like, you know, like Sam Fender, the bit in the song where it goes, what's the bit where it goes like back and forth yeah yeah yeah like V and I went to Glastonbury and he did that and he would do the song a bit like how Freddie Mercury would do you would sing it back I got chills and now when I listen to that song that bit there gives me chills it's kind of euphoric yeah but it's because of how I was feeling when I first heard that that I feel it just brings back that what's weirder is that we all understand these experiences of being able to feel music that way, there are some people who get no feeling from music.
59:40There are people out there who just get nothing from music. My new favourite niche on TikTok is, I've seen it once or twice, of these people, right? They have like, they claim that they have, and maybe they do, and I'm just becoming across really ignorant, but they claim that they have this kind of like condition. You're going to say the Cynthia Erivo thing, aren't you? Right. Can't stand it. I can't stand that. Can I stand it? Not her. Do you see what I mean? Not her. I don't like any of that. When people go four plus four is yellow, no, it's not. It's eight. No, no, I'm talking about... No, no, it's all the same shit, though.
1:00:08What you're about to say is the same shit as that. I'm talking about... None of it is a thing. There are these specific people that think they can, like, there'll be a song, and then there'll be, like, beats in the background, like how you make up any song, right? You've got, like, the bass, then you've got the drums and stuff like that. And there'll be these people that say that they're hyper-aware of music. And you'll see them on TikTok, and they're always these artsy fuckers, right? And then they'll be like, oh, I just hear every bit of the music, and I'm in it. and it's like that's called listening to music yeah but we can all do that okay maybe not then i thought you were going to say the synth for your evo thing which cracked me up there's an interview they're like around the table and um she goes apparently it's a condition where when you hear music you can you see the notes as a color or whatever and she's an individual she's with jennifer lawrence who goes okay what's this uh she just says it straight away and she's like It's like a yellow.
1:00:59And I'm just like, oh. I hate it. Is Wednesday not orange to you, though? Yeah. I hate all that. Massively. It doesn't make sense. In my head, I remember even being a kid, like Wednesday was orange to me. I don't know why. Orange Wednesdays, because that was the... It's not an actual thing. What Saturday? Three, two, one, blue. What? Don't say dunno. Because there was never a blue Saturday, was it? No, but in your head, do you not have Saturday as a... Like, Sunday is yellow. Don't... Right, so Thursday. Let me think what Thursday is, right? I've got two for Thursday. You're going to say yellow.
1:01:28No, I'm not going to say yellow. I thought you were going to say because of the happy hour. No, right. So, Alfie, have you got a Thursday? Have you got a Thursday? Yeah. Right, okay, on the count of three. Three, two, one. Purple. Okay. Not too far off. But why are you associating? I get it when you associate something like if you go, oh, what's winter? And you go, blue. Yeah. I get it when you're associating it to something in the actual thing, but like days of the week and stuff. It just does. I reckon mine is because maybe they had the days of the week out in reception in different colours and the Wednesday was orange do you remember orange Wednesday what I'm saying is why is Tuesday red to me then I think I had a planner and Tuesday was red like if you asked me to make you a colour coded weekly schedule and you wanted them different colours I would make Tuesday red Monday would be red for me see that to me is mental that's a light blue to me I reckon it is a childhood thing I am insufferable but no genuinely I think I get I get that people have it but I imagine it just stems back to childhood where something's in your head because of it I don't think there's a genuine thing two minutes what are we on?
1:02:47yeah but we're cooking on gas now and I do think it's important to end this with our minute silence Alf, give us one more It's like, you know like the French language Everything is feminine or masculine Yeah We could do that now, couldn't we? What's a chair to you? Male Yeah, but then are we just going Oh, naturally, because it's strong It's lifting something up Like that's what you're doing with all of these things No, no, no, no Because I think a chair would be male But I think a sofa would be female Because it holds you Because it's comfortable Is that why I'm doing that, though? Yeah, that's what I think you are.
1:03:24I'll say some stuff. Yeah. Kitchen.
1:03:29That's good. I would go kitchen. I'd go female. Of course you would. Okay, washing up. Washing up is an action. It's not a big thing. Yeah, okay, football. Football, round, curvy, male. All right, Joey Barton. What about then Voting That's not a thing Alright an object Bum A bum No because a bum is usually attached to A peach Female Shoes For me shoes would be male Really What sort of shoes are you thinking of though Desert boots Stilettos? No, work shoes. Something on work shoes. Washing machine. Washing machine. If longer, we've cow gone. A washing machine. The actual washing machine, I think, would be male.
1:04:30Because it's stocky. It's rumbly. Yeah. One more. Give me one more. Okay. I just want to catch him out. He's just gone. He's actually said each one each time. He said female kitchen. Yeah, go on. One more. I want to do a hard one. Yeah. a boulder trans
1:04:53it didn't matter what you said then I was going to say trans that was a joke one more come on one more a Pepsi can a can male because of beers fosters and that yeah that's what I mean you're associating it to something masculine or feminine we're cutting it straws now it's actually a really good episode go on do one more do your next question you want one more yeah one more If you got it down.
1:05:20I don't even want to do this one. Don't do it then. Do the next one. No, no, do it. That makes me want to hear it more. What actually are names? I don't believe it. They're just noises that we assign to each other and become our identities. We'll leave it there. It's been Jackmates. How did names even start? Who came up with these noises? It hasn't been Jackmates Happy Hour Podcast. It's been Alfie Indra's Happy Hour Podcast. What does that mean? Alfie Indra? It's just a sound. For more introspective thoughts, let us know in the comments down below. Shenefi99 will be desperately waiting to hear what you thought of this.
1:05:51If you could really give us a detailed sort of review, that would be amazing. Stevie, we'll be back sooner or later. Can you plan the next one? I'll plan the next one, yeah. I mean, I have some shower thoughts of my own. Oh, the shower thoughts episode was really good. Yeah, well, do you want to know what we discussed? No, no. Don't let them know what they could have had, because that will make them sad. Maybe. do cats experience gravity in their necks? Save that. It's one of mine. Save that. I get it. I get it. Yeah, they sit there like that and they never ever just lay their head down like that.
1:06:21They can loaf like that. And I think that must hurt your neck after. See you in a bit. Can you cry underwater? That would have been good, Jack. We should have done that. I've got plenty, mate. I've got plenty. Sorry, Stevie. Your nose is always in vision. Really? But your brain blocked it out. Why does your brain have to block it out? Why can't we just see our nose? Lots of fingers like that, boys. Nice. That's not going out, is it? Yeah. That air? Yeah. Yeah, we need to. I'm off on holiday, so we need to fill the gap. Go offline, mate.
1:06:58Go offline, mate.
1:07:05Jack makes happy hour. Well, I don't know what I was expecting from that voice note, but it wasn't that. Okay. First of all, time is absolutely a construct. It's made up totally and utterly completely. And the idea of it being a certain time of day, certain hour, certain day of the week, it's absolutely made up. We don't need it to survive, but we need to synchronize things. Things need to be done at the same time, forgive the word. Otherwise, everything doesn't work. so computer systems all have to run at the same time and they're very carefully controlled so without synchronized time modern life as we understand it would cease to exist interesting concept on this the idea of it being a certain time only really became universal when trains came out in the uk so that sounds a bit weird but it's true they needed to synchronize the timetable of the trains and it used to be you know 12 o 'clock was kind of a fluid concept and they go, oh, it's 12 o 'clock in the town because that's what the clock on the town hall says.
1:08:10But that might not be the same 12 o 'clock as a town that's like five miles away. It could be 10 minutes off or half an hour off because it didn't really matter. No one knew. But once the trains came, that's when time really became synchronized. So having a central time in the UK only really happened in Victorian times. But yeah, we don't need it as such, but in the same way that we don't need electricity and we don't need to have cooked food, it's kind of useful. The other one, if everyone stopped paying taxes, governments would collapse. So you need income of some kind. As long as you have a currency system, if nobody paid taxes, the whole of society would break down in every single way.
1:08:50There's no way to avoid this. People don't understand how much of the economy goes into, like, what it does, what your tax money actually does. You know, the lights wouldn't stay on. There'd be no army. There'd be no roads. There'd be no infrastructure. There'd be no police. There'd be no ambulance. There'd be no hospitals. There'd be none of that stuff. It's all supported by the government and it has to come from somewhere. so the only way you could have no taxes is if you got rid of money as a concept and nobody had any wealth and everything was held in like a sort of communist kind of state then you could have no taxes because it wouldn't really matter because everything would be owned by the state but yeah you kind of need to pay your taxes as well unfortunately hope that helps i did that right off the top of my head while i'm preparing dinner so um if you want me to do a bit more in depth on those i'll have to look some stuff up but yeah you know nice to chat to you anyway Fall has never looked or tasted this good.

We’re rolling Indra deep end of main shows lately but we’re not complaining! Well, we might be after this episode. Alfie has planned this entire episode in about 3 and a half minutes, so let’s see how this goes…
Whenever Alfie has a deep thought - usually while doing a sit down wee - he makes a note of it so he can bring it to the pod for all you philosophers out there. And with a very limited amount of Googling allowed during this episode, we have to philosophise by ourselves using our existing (and again, very limited) knowledge.
Why do we need to measure our age? What would happen if everyone stopped paying their mortgage? Why do all humans not like the same foods? What is the point in having a name? What gender are shoes?
