In short

Mythbusters Part 3 episode of Jackmates Happy Hour, revisiting three myths: whether jumping on a grenade can save nearby people, whether Coke + Mentos can “explode” your stomach, and (implied by the title) a third myth about bullet drop vs fired shot.

Guests

The episode is hosted by Jack Mate and Stevie White, with co-hosts/regulars Jack Dean and Robbie Knox plus Alfie Indra (who is referenced as not present). Backgrounds mentioned: they’re Sheffield-based podcast personalities/performers; Stevie is a live performer (Crosswires Festival July 3 at Sheffield City Hall). Alfie is a recurring co-host known for blunt reactions; Jack Mate and Jack Dean are regular hosts.

Key claims (Myth 1)

Jumping on a grenade can reduce shrapnel reaching others. In their discussion of the Mythbusters test: a dummy on the grenade reduced damage to a figure 5 feet away (about 10 fewer shrapnel hits), while 10+ feet away showed no damage.

Notable examples (Myth 1)

They describe control testing first (grenade damage without jumping), shrapnel traveling extremely fast, and that pieces were more likely to get stuck rather than pass cleanly through.

Key claims (Myth 2)

Coke + Mentos does not “explode” your stomach; any reaction would be mild/irritating because stomach acid neutralizes the effect before it can rupture you.

Notable examples (Myth 2)

They reference a viral video claiming a ruptured stomach, but treat it as unproven; they propose testing with a pig stomach (as Mythbusters reportedly did).

3:37Slamwise Gandhi:You're just like star of the show. Main character.

3:42SlamJar:What are you doing? It feels very insincere. No, I was literally ten seconds ago, I was on the Reddit and everyone was talking about how you're the main character of the podcast now. So, how does it feel? How does it feel? You want to put them on? Cheers, brother. Yeah, straight into it.

4:02Slamwise Gandhi:I saw a few shouts.

4:51SlamJar:good good good you know Chris Wood 2024-25 season

4:57Stevie:purple patch this is your patch felt like a dip in the last couple really yeah they're not out yet no I know oh no but they will be before this one It's quite a lot of pressure, isn't it? Like, oh, the generational run. It's like, I am going to have an off day at some point and then you're all going to hate me again.

5:15Slamwise Gandhi:This is why I choose to just have an off year. Yeah, it's good. Don't worry. Don't worry.

5:20SlamJar:What was your purple patch?

5:21Slamwise Gandhi:I haven't had it yet. So good things to come. Is it coming still? Yeah. Maybe McQueen's Dairy did me well, didn't it? Yeah. Yeah, Milkgate did well.

5:29SlamJar:Yeah, there's still whisperings on the terraces when you add that.

5:32Slamwise Gandhi:And that time I told you about getting touched as a kid, that went well. Yeah, yeah. Good for me. Yeah, other than that, not... Cannot believe that got monetised. Bad things. When bad things happen to me, good people like... Or bring up stuff that happened.

5:44SlamJar:Yeah. Because your generational run is like Karen times, isn't it?

5:48Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, I need more Karen situations to happen. Yeah, I was thinking less.

5:52SlamJar:I was thinking less that and be more funny.

5:55Slamwise Gandhi:Can't promise that. Try it. But I can send an email or two.

5:59Stevie:So I'll see if I can do that more. You know Robby always says, like, don't read the good comments or the bad comments he replies to every good comment does he see i i read all the good ones yeah and then i see a bad one and i go do you know i'm not gonna fucking read the good ones all the bad ones yeah and then i just read the good ones again no but i own this i i think if there's good ones read them yeah if there's bad ones try and forget them that's my

6:30Slamwise Gandhi:motto yeah you shouldn't focus on the bad because there's only there's one bad in 99 you can have a look at the good ones can't you well yeah but you you're gonna accidentally see the bad aren't you

6:38SlamJar:yeah you do yeah i don't mind the bad ones it's just when they're like like i don't mind if i've never ever ever been offended at a teeth comment no because i know they're bad no come on but they're not bad man thank you but it's when they're just when they're wrong you know like that i didn't like the john beer stevie hate comments yeah yeah it's just but it's mental i don't like it if it's

6:59Slamwise Gandhi:about something we can't change. Never been a fan of that.

7:01SlamJar:Well, I can't change my teeth. No, yeah. You did. You literally did. Yeah, but I can't just go back and go, can I have my old ones back now?

7:08Slamwise Gandhi:But like one that always annoys me, but it doesn't matter too much. But whenever I see like, oh, Stevie's laugh goes through me and I'm like, it's been that for 650. I've not changed that. Why are you covering your mouth? Huh? Why are you covering your mouth?

7:20SlamJar:I started feeling self-conscious. About?

7:23Slamwise Gandhi:You've never had anything. Oh, when you say the word sin instead of seen, that was one of your big ones.

Read the full transcript

7:28SlamJar:Yeah. Or when you accidentally said a slur Did I? Yeah Oh I did And I've apologised for that a million times

7:36Stevie:I actually didn't I said I didn't know So you know what So now all I can think about is saying it again It's weird that isn't it? Yeah Oh god

7:46Slamwise Gandhi:We probably shouldn't start by getting all down on ourselves No I'm happy I'm happy Happy Mondays I just want to make sure I don't laugh

7:53SlamJar:Embrace your fucking laugh Yeah Your giggly giggly Giggly gigs Giggly gigs Oh no. God, that was the gayest thing I have ever seen. Can't be gay, can it, mate? It's a laugh. Fellas, is it gay to laugh? No, but I mean, that was quite a camp. I think being, I've said this before on the pod, but being gay is actually super straight. You know how the stereotype for gays is quite feminine, quite like floaty, quite like, yeah, I'm talking about the stereotype, but like the like quite the gays are quite weak gays are actually the opposite you got i've said it before but like they're into hard cocks you know what i mean we like we straight men stereotype we like pretty women don't speak for me but you know what i'm saying i get what you're saying i'm not the first to have said they're not intimidated by...

8:53SlamJar:If somebody went to me, right, just bend over, I'm going to put this hard penis in your eye, I'd go, I can't, I can't. The gays are like, get it up me.

9:03Stevie:So what are you saying? What's your point here? I think I know what you're saying in a way like, they're... I think being gay is really...

9:11SlamJar:I think being gay is very straight.

9:14Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. Someone DMed me the other day and said, I know you've got a wife and a kid, but I'm 100 % sure you're gay. and I was thinking like how can you be 100 % sure unless you want to be you know

9:27Stevie:I used to get I used to get are you okay

9:30SlamJar:no I weren't you didn't give me the option

9:33Stevie:I know I used to get called gay a lot at school for singing what

9:39SlamJar:what are you alright I thought you just stopped what we were saying to say that you just made a horrific joke at me wait wait and then you were opening up were you

9:48Stevie:yeah no I just that sprung to my mind I didn't actually hear what you said. What did you say? No, nothing. Is that getting cut? No, none of this is getting cut. None of it. All of it's staying in. Keep saying things and then I'm like, oh God. And then they come out in a month. And I have sort of a month of worry. And that's this month now.

10:10Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, well, this month has some episodes coming out as well. They're already out for you now, but at the point of recording this, we haven't done that. That syndrome episode hasn't gone out yet. That's fine. What's that one? want my John beer. Yeah. Not the get to know John beer. No, even though you're hearing this after that episode's gone out, we are still fine.

10:30Stevie:It's all fine. Yeah. We're lovely guys. We are lovely guys. I'm sorry that we are. We're just three guys. Three lovely gay guys.

10:38SlamJar:Three lovely straight guys that are accepting of everyone, any culture. And we're not even in the manosphere. Fuck, no way. so even

10:51Slamwise Gandhi:that's a good thing isn't it yeah but that's making it sound like women should love us for that

10:56Stevie:no now it's weird again now the anxiety's back

11:01Slamwise Gandhi:yeah what you been up to Alf

11:05Stevie:yesterday I did a sit down wee got up pulled my back laid on the floor and covered in piss

11:16Slamwise Gandhi:in the bathroom yes what Why was there piss on the floor? Yeah, hold on, hold on. You said you've done the sit-down wee.

11:24Stevie:I was explaining this to somebody today. You've then stood up. I made a mistake. And you stood up too early. Stood up too early and was shaking as I stood.

11:31SlamJar:Like a fucking dog having a poo. What? What?

11:36Stevie:Nothing like that. Have you seen a dog have a poo?

11:39SlamJar:They shake.

11:39Stevie:Do they?

11:40SlamJar:Yeah, when they're trying hard. I'm on the way up shaking. Because I'm so... What were you at? Alfie, after this performance today, you're on the way down, mate. No, I know. No, I know. You mean literally, you're on the way up.

11:56Slamwise Gandhi:For the audio listeners, he stood up, gesturing his hand towards his penis, shaking it as he stands on it. He's holding his knob.

12:05Stevie:Yeah, because I was just, for some reason, I'm too impatient to like, I've got to do all in one. Yeah. Twinge my back. I'm like, oh, and I'm leant over. and the trousers down my ankles. Oh, no. Wheeze. That's not a good sight. There's wee involved. Of course there is. How's your back doing now? It's still really bad. I'm on painkillers today. Where are you?

12:29SlamJar:Where did this happen?

12:31Stevie:Well, the toilet.

12:32SlamJar:At home or in London? Yeah, toilet.

12:33Stevie:Yeah, I call Ali. Ali, Ali. I'm like that. Then I hear her coming upstairs and I'm like, well, I've got to pull my trousers up before she gets up here because there's no way I'm letting her know I've peed myself. I like that you've called her pre-trouser pull-up, though, because then you've put yourself in a bad situation. Yeah, terrible, terrible. Then I managed to pull them up. I'm like, I pull them up. It's just a mess in there.

12:55Slamwise Gandhi:What do you mean it's still a mess in there?

12:57Stevie:It's a mess in my pants. Oh. Then I shuffle over to the door, unlock it, and I just go down on the floor. And I'm just like, oh, and then she just put a duvet on me. What? She just popped a pillow under my head and put a duvet on me. Like you were in A &E on a Friday Yeah, it was pathetic

13:14SlamJar:Did she know you were covered in piss?

13:16Stevie:No

13:17SlamJar:Has she known yet, since?

13:20Stevie:Uh, I think she could sense it Smell it Sense Oh, let's piss around

13:25SlamJar:There is a sense

13:27Stevie:Well, I think I then got into bed and I was like, oh, but I've I don't know why she's with me I've had an accident or whatever, do you know what I mean? You didn't have an accident though, did you? It was an accident

13:41Slamwise Gandhi:yeah but like that makes me think you're you're in that you can't have an accident when you're

13:45Stevie:in the tour i'm not incontinent when you're falling to the floor i didn't fall i had to force myself to the floor or you force are you still weighing no dribble i don't know

13:58SlamJar:you're too far in that one you can't try i don't know whatever he said maybe yeah i don't know why have you why is that something that you wanted to say on the podcast I haven't really done much else I haven't done much else

14:13Stevie:I haven't done much else Have you not? I went on holiday I did actually forget about that So much Do you ever get back off on holiday Off on? Fucking hell, I'm shit at this Do you ever get back from holiday And go Did I even go on that holiday? It just went like that And you're in this little bubble And then you're just back to life and you're like, oh. Yeah, yeah. That's how I felt. It's like I didn't even go. Where'd you go? Seville. You like it? Stunning.

14:46SlamJar:Lovely place. What a beautiful place. Did you eat any of the oranges off the trees? Are you allowed to do that? No, you're not supposed to do that. No, I didn't do that. I didn't think you could.

14:53Stevie:They were everywhere, weren't they? I had some orange wine. How was that? Sweet and strong. Do you like wine? I like that. I like sweet stuff, but I always think this would be nicer if it didn't taste of alcohol and just the sweet bit.

15:05SlamJar:Yeah, yeah.

15:05Stevie:You know what I mean?

15:06SlamJar:Yeah, so you like orange juice

15:08Stevie:is what you like. Yeah. Is there any alcoholic drink as nice as a hot chocolate? What? Is there any alcoholic drink in the world that tastes as nice as hot chocolate? I love the taste of a lager. Oh, you liar. Espresso martini? Yeah, espresso martini. Wouldn't that be nicer just with the sweet coffee than the alcohol? With the hot chocolate, you mean? No, with an espresso martini. Oh, right. The sweet cold coffee. It's like a nice latte.

15:37SlamJar:say your argument here is that alcohol makes things taste worse yeah probably true no i don't know though would you rather down a cold pint or would you rather down a cold glass of blackcurrant

15:50Slamwise Gandhi:well i mean lemonade more refreshing isn't it yeah lemonade you'd have a pint than lemonade

15:56SlamJar:diet coke no not nice regular coke coke really yeah yeah you'd have regular coke over a pint if If we're not talking like calories and shit like that, or like sugar, then I would, in the summer, a cold glass, when you're dehydrated, a cold glass of full fat Coke. Oh, mate.

16:18Stevie:Yeah. On holiday, that's nice. I like it when they do it out the bottle and they go, and then all the steam comes out

16:23SlamJar:because it's so cold. Yeah, a tiny little bottle, yeah. Or Mexican Coke. What's that? Because apparently that's better than real Coke, isn't it? Than our Coke.

16:31Stevie:Interesting.

16:31SlamJar:Yeah. In America, if you get a Coke from some states, it will say like Mexican Coke on the back. And it's, I don't know the details, but it's like we use like, they use corn syrup instead of like fructose syrup or some shit like that. You can search it up on TikTok and that one is so much nicer. There's your recommendation.

16:50Slamwise Gandhi:You can search it up on TikTok.

16:52SlamJar:I thought you were going to say Google. No. I'm a modern man. Wow. That was good. Yeah. But yeah, you can get new Coke.

17:01Slamwise Gandhi:Anything fun happen in Seville?

17:02Stevie:didn't piss yourself there really embarrassed myself on the plane actually why on the way out or way back okay god i just remember this was so bad the the catering thing came past and i was like i'm gonna get my wife a kit kat and hot chocolate to surprise her because she like basically i lost the airpods that i said she could use and i took the headphones hold on i i begged her to take them she was like no no it's fine it's fine i'll just chill whatever oh so she didn't have any headphones yeah yeah so i was like i'll get a hot chocolate and a kitkat

17:36Slamwise Gandhi:no i had one pair but there was one pair and then you've lost one yes one each no it's over the ear

17:44Stevie:yeah i would have mate i would have i wanted to give her all of it yeah but anyway so i then go to the air host. What would you call them if they're a man? Air host. Yeah. Can you give this to 32D? You want this out together? No. Wow. No, no, no.

18:03SlamJar:Didn't want to pay the eight quid. It's rude that you're referred to a buyer bra size, but...

18:08Stevie:I'd be offended, but I don't know if that's big or small or whatever. I don't know either. No. 32D. Is that... Done all right there, mate? Why do you know?

18:18SlamJar:That is such a good joke from me.

18:19Stevie:Don't say done alright there mate Like you You're all about big boobs Or whatever mate Don't try and have that chat with me

18:29Slamwise Gandhi:You said I was getting bummed at the start I was trying to turn these around

18:32SlamJar:What you think you know tits do you?

18:34Slamwise Gandhi:What a sentence I know boobs How? I have a wife

18:42Stevie:Do you not know?

18:43Slamwise Gandhi:Do you not understand it? I could not tell you the first thing about boobs

18:47Stevie:You could mate You could, you could. You so could, Jack.

18:51SlamJar:What is the first thing? What is it? If there had to be the first thing about boobs, what is it? I honestly, I give it all that. Do you?

18:59Slamwise Gandhi:No one has ever looked at you and went, Jack knows so much about the tit.

19:02SlamJar:People look at me and they go, he knows he's wearing the tit. Yeah.

19:07Slamwise Gandhi:You stared at a woman breastfeeding.

19:09SlamJar:Yeah, well, I didn't, did I? Not purposely, Stevie, because out of context, two years on from the original story, I was trying to look at the baby.

19:16Stevie:way better than the thing which was again like it's a weird story because it's there it's on the breast yeah but I thought

19:23SlamJar:she was giving it a little burp and I thought oh let's have a little look at that

19:25Stevie:how did you embarrass yourself on the plane I say can you give this Kit Kat and hot chocolate to 32D he comes back and goes she said no right what I'm like there is no way that is my wife because she's not going to say like that would just be bizarre yeah right and then so another I go can you try again goes back, comes back. She said no again, right? I'm like, this is insane. So this other lady comes, air host. Notice how I used host for both of them. Good, good. Don't bring it up. No, I'm not, because that makes it, yeah. That's like you're doing it to Panda. Yes, and that's not good. We'll be talking about tips again in a minute.

20:04Stevie:Yes, okay. Oh, God. So then the other lady goes, is she an older woman, not to be rude? I went, no. Not that there's anything wrong with that. There's any messiness. But I was like, no, no, I obviously, I went, no, no, no, no. I went, she's got long brown hair. Anyway, I then get up and I'm like, I'll point you out to her. I see a seat and the top of my wife's head like this, right? Just a normal forehead with brunette hair like this, going like this. I go, it's her there, right? air host goes over taps my wife on the shoulder it's the fucking woman that they've been trying to give it to this whole time just had the same top of the head as ali she looks at me and goes no no means no indra literally like no like she's like no the worst thing about it as she's about to tap her she goes oh she's sleeping i went that's fine just wake her up oh my she looks at me like i'm a this is a spanish lady she looks at me and i'm going oh no no sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry anyway i woke up ali's just been asleep the whole time with her hoodie up that's why they couldn't oh in 32d so i don't know why that was so hard for the bloody air host oh so ali was in the right seat yeah oh he got the wrong seat did he she she yes got the wrong wow and he yeah both

21:33Slamwise Gandhi:for them did really weird you've corrected him i know pandering again yeah wow yeah so i was quite

21:41Stevie:i woke up and i was like for god's sake i think i'm a psycho and did ali take the kit kat yeah she loved it yeah i had a i had a stick yeah i like how the woman's just pointing like i will not have a kit kat from a strange man but she was looking at me like i think she thought i was like hitting on her because it was like oh I bought you a Kit Kat and a hot chocolate that would be

22:03Slamwise Gandhi:the maddest way to hit someone

22:05Stevie:wow horrible isn't it that's a great story you could see that in a sitcom yeah getting it people laughing at me this guy went how long you been with her I was like well that's actually none of your business mate someone said that yeah how long you been with her mate that is good what did you actually say back to him five years I actually went just bloody five years mate I'd have been murdered I'd have got away with it

22:27SlamJar:yeah oh that's brilliant

22:29Slamwise Gandhi:oh what you been doing then that was a nice little slap of the hand yeah I've um well you and I have done something together that the happy hour listeners will be intrigued to hear about yeah Jack and I bluzzers huh huh Jack and I went to the Christmas present that Fiona bought for just him yeah

22:48SlamJar:sausage yeah for anyone not familiar Fiona bought me a single ticket to a sausage make workshop in the Norfolk countryside for Christmas. I opened it on Christmas Day. Went, thank you. You coming? Because you're a vegetarian. She said, no, just you. In the end, she bought another ticket a few weeks down the line for this man here. Do you know how much them tickets were, by the way? No. 65 quid. I think we're... 75 quid. She just bought another one for real. Oh, we probably owe her some money. Yeah, to make us our size. Were they nice people? Who? The people that ran it? Yeah, yeah. Oh, mate, it was genuinely...

23:26Slamwise Gandhi:I won't drag them off then, but that seems...

23:29Stevie:It sounds mental.

23:30Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. We joked about it on here because we kept saying, like, what a weird present for him to go on his own as well. Yeah, that is mental. So much fun.

23:37Stevie:No comment.

23:38Slamwise Gandhi:Wait, it was so much fun, wasn't it? Yeah, it was good. It was genuinely a lot of fun. It was a place called The Goat Shed in Norfolk. Shout out, Geoff. And Geoff and James, who, like, ran it, were so nice. And you say the price is expensive, you get to make your own sausages. You keep the sausages you make. You take them about 30 premium sausages. Like good quality sausages.

23:58SlamJar:I don't know the going rate, but it sounds good to me, guys. I reckon the value of the sausage was probably about 30 quid.

24:04Stevie:Wow. And then you're spending 35 to... 45? 45 to... Do the experience. Talk me through it. I don't even know... How do you think you make a sausage? I think you get this big, long, see-through skin stuff, put it against the machine, and then goes, when it fills the tube. Yeah. Yeah.

24:23SlamJar:So we had to get a pig, a pig's carcass, right? And literally like, scoop out the, it was pretty grim. Scoop out the meat from the pig. When you say pig carcass,

24:34Stevie:does it look like a pig? Yeah.

24:35Slamwise Gandhi:It looks like a whole pig. Except it was like a big cut through the middle so you could like, nice. It's 45 quid for this. No, 75.

24:43SlamJar:Sounds like a fucking saw. Well, they let you choose what tool you want to use. which is a bit odd, I choose your weapon. What do you go for?

24:54Slamwise Gandhi:I, for the scooping, I use like an ice cream scoop.

24:58Stevie:Ugh. That's fucking sadistic.

25:00Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, yeah. Jack used his teeth.

25:03SlamJar:I literally used my glove. Used my hand.

25:06Stevie:What?

25:06SlamJar:Yeah, it's gross. Well, that's what that mouth used to be why I used the scoop.

25:09Stevie:You guys are using the weirdest ones. What? I don't want to use my hands. You're doing like a little ice cream, like a little kiddie thing.

25:13SlamJar:Someone else had like an injection thing.

25:15Stevie:You could suck it all out like that. Is there not just a spoon? Surely there's a spoon.

25:22SlamJar:Yeah, it's a scoop.

25:23Stevie:No, not a weird scoop. Is there not just a spoon? None of this is real. None of that's real. Oh, for fuck's sake.

25:28Slamwise Gandhi:No, you basically just get given like a washing up bowl. And it's got the meat in there. And it has... Oh, so there's no carcass. No.

25:34Stevie:Is that what you whispered to each other to trick me at the start? No, no.

25:37Slamwise Gandhi:That was about you being the star of the show. Being the main character.

25:41Stevie:You've been worried about that ever since. Yeah, well on edge. Okay, well, it's all over now.

25:45Slamwise Gandhi:So you basically get given a bowl with the pig meat in it. Yeah. And then they give you... I'm never eating a sausage again, though. Pig meat. Then they gave us, what, rusk? Yeah, rusk water. Put it in. What's rusk?

26:00SlamJar:Like oats, seeds, sort of? Oh, okay.

26:02Slamwise Gandhi:And then you had to use your hands to massage it and kind of like kneading bread, but it was like just with meat. Yeah. And then you tip it into this machine and then you get the intestine over the pipe. Yeah, do you know that's what the sausage skin is?

26:16Stevie:No.

26:16SlamJar:That's a pig's intestine.

26:17Stevie:So they put it on.

26:18SlamJar:It is a bit phallic. It looks a little bit like you're putting a condom on a machine. Because you have to like...

26:23Stevie:Why are you saying that?

26:24SlamJar:What?

26:24Stevie:You know, it's getting you a good image in your head. It's not a good image. You're putting a condom on. On a machine? You're putting a condom on someone else.

26:34SlamJar:Jack actually didn't do it. They did it for him. Yeah, someone did it for me. Yeah, I was vlogging.

26:40SlamJar:But you put it on the machine, ravel it all on like that.

26:43Stevie:Don't need to do that.

26:44SlamJar:And then you press the pedal with your knee and it pumps all the meat into the skin. and then you get this long fucking tube.

26:52Slamwise Gandhi:Can we say, the sausage, when you first put it through, obviously it's not in links yet, so it's just huge. So we did ask if it's possible to make a three foot pig and blanket like we want to do.

27:02SlamJar:This is what we spoke about on Christmas. They said it's doable. Yeah. You just need an oven big enough for that.

27:06Stevie:It would need to be quite thick as well, wouldn't it? Otherwise it's just very thin pig and blanket.

27:10SlamJar:No, I think probably twice the size of a normal sausage.

27:14Slamwise Gandhi:But you can choose how thick you make the sausages based on how tight you hold this intestine on the tube. So I got quite chunky sausages. And Jax did fairly... You said you were the Messi of sausage making.

27:26SlamJar:I was pretty good at it. You did chipolatas. I found my calling. No, no.

27:29Slamwise Gandhi:He did little Dean sausages.

27:31Stevie:Yeah. Dean willies. Mate, that's a really good little bit of merch for you. Dean willies. Yeah, you could do like fridge rips.

27:38SlamJar:Yeah, little cocktail sausages. Why cocktail though? I could do footlong cocktails. No, because that's the point of the Dean willy.

27:43Stevie:Well, I thought you said you and your family that the men in your family had small penises, did you not? You said it.

27:51SlamJar:But he keeps bringing it up. You do as well every other week. I try and move on. What if, since that episode, loads of hot chicks have started following the pod? You're now telling them about my... Well, they're not going to be intimidated by your size then.

28:05Stevie:That's good.

28:06Slamwise Gandhi:Also, they would have turned this episode off when we were talking about getting bummed at the start.

28:09SlamJar:True, true, true. We filter out the normal people at the start, don't we? And now we're just left speaking to... The freaks. It is a worry, isn't it?

28:17Slamwise Gandhi:But yeah, so we did that. Then we had to link them, which is a whole technique in itself.

28:21SlamJar:Oh, he could flip them around his hand. He's been about. He's been about. Nunchucks. Honestly. He could do four at a time. It looked like he was holding four bananas, and he would go twist, make four more, twist, make four more. I know. And he'd be getting like 12 sausages, 10 seconds. It was impressive. I'd have to go one, two, but I'm not, I don't know my way around a sausage.

28:41Slamwise Gandhi:But yeah, we made them, they're two hours. Two hour. Wow. With, what, six other people?

28:46SlamJar:I will say, because I am a big fan of the goat shed, thought the staff, they were absolutely amazing. My only negative was the class, the learning aspect of it was about 15 minutes. And the reason it was two hours is because you are just in a queue of other people who are using the machine before you.

29:01Slamwise Gandhi:There's only one machine and there's eight. So you are just waiting for an hour, yeah.

29:04SlamJar:But yeah, that was all right. And then I ate them.

29:06Slamwise Gandhi:Were they good? Oh, so good. Because they were like 80 % pork, which they told us, they gave like some little stats and stuff in it. And they told us in the UK, they have to be at least 40 % pork to be classed as a sausage. But you've got to think, how shit would that be? To only be 40 % pork and 60 % all the other stuff. Ours were like 80, but then you've got to think water and rusk is the only other things we put in it. So that's a really, really good quality. So I loved it. Good on you, lads. I thought it was so nice. How many have you got left? Yeah, good. I've only eaten about nine of mine.

29:34Slamwise Gandhi:Right. So I've got about 20-odd left.

29:36SlamJar:Yeah. Wow. Yeah, I've done mine first weekend. Good on you. 30 of them. 15 a day?

29:43Stevie:On average. But what was it? Wrecky, six for lunch. But what do you reckon? Did you have one day, not many, one day loads? I imagine on the first day you had 25 and then you had five. No, even. 15, probably 20, 10. Yeah, so you had 20 sausages in a day.

29:58Slamwise Gandhi:You made a lot of sausage meals, didn't you?

30:00Stevie:I think sausages is that kind of thing you can just keep popping. Popping them in. It's not even, that's just stupid. I'm sorry, but I did laugh. Generational run-o. Yeah, that's terrible. Yeah, there we go.

30:10SlamJar:Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Yeah. All caught up, baby. All caught up. But Stevie, what are we up to today, mate?

30:17Slamwise Gandhi:Well, so I don't know if you guys noticed, but when Instagram Sam posted to say that an episode coming out was going to be third part in a series, people were guessing in the comments what it could be. At this time, you all know it was an Urban Legends World Cup 3. I did see a couple of people said they think it might be the next Mythbusters episode. Oh, yeah. So today is the day. Part one and two were episodes 591 and 593 from September last year. So it's been a while.

30:46SlamJar:Wow. September. October, early September, late September. Can't remember now. October, November, December, January, February, March. Seven months ago.

30:55Slamwise Gandhi:So it has been a while. We did part one or two only a couple of weeks apart, I think as well. So this is part three of the series. For anyone who missed the first, you can go back and listen to those.

31:05SlamJar:I'd recommend it. We discussed loads. We discussed if a penny dropped off an Eiffel Tower could kill someone. No, you say the Eiffel Tower every single time. Off the Empire State Building. There we go. We also discussed if walking or running in the rain gets you more wet.

31:17Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. Can you melt a human body with acid? Can you burn a bullet? Bend a bullet. Bend a bullet. So basically the whole concept of it is there was a TV show back in the day called Mythbusters and we go over their myths and you guys basically say how you think you would do the tests for these and whether you think they're true or false before we go. We actually called ourselves the Theory Slammers and we had Slam Jar and Slamwise Gandhi.

31:42Stevie:Was it Gandhi or Ganji? Gandhi. Gandhi. Again, amazed me the first time. That was fucking class. Slammer is Gandhi.

31:53Slamwise Gandhi:On to part three now, and you've just mentioned the walking in the rain and running in the rain. I do need to put an apology out to you guys watching and listening to this right now because that was in season one of Mythbusters. In season three, they revisited that myth and they did more extensive tests and found that it is, in fact, better to run in the rain than it is to walk. So I apologise to lying to all of you. You get less wet if you run? Yeah. So?

32:23Stevie:Underwater for the less...

32:25Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. Yeah, whichever way round it was. Oh, fuck, you've now got me in my head. Whichever way I said it was the first time. You get most wet if you swim in the rain. You can't... Well, if you're in a pool. Yeah. Oh, you've now made me think which way round did I... Which way round did I say it in the first one? You were doing that.

32:42Stevie:theorizing yes remember that one guy got really annoyed because we can't say strap in my man

32:48Slamwise Gandhi:strap in um yeah no so the i found my notes from the first one originally it said is it better to run in the rain the myth is better that you it's that you stay drier if you run in the rain and we busted it which would or they busted it which would mean that it's better to walk in the rain however they corrected it two seasons later where they say it is actually better to run in the rain I apologise I hope I can do better in future ones however all the ones I've got today I haven't gone on to check latencies and see if they've corrected these

33:18SlamJar:so all of this could be bollocks let's assume it's not for the sake of the episode okay good on you but all of these facts might not be facts is what we're saying but they probably are

33:30Slamwise Gandhi:for the ones I've gone for they're fairly why are you showing me a nugget

33:35SlamJar:no I've just got my keys out I was impressed by the nugget

33:39Slamwise Gandhi:so for this one i think they're fairly obvious that they've done it the correct way right okay okay so let's start with and we get a tenner right from you each one we get yeah no okay you're the theory slammers i'm all and you say theory slammed or what was theory confirmed

33:58SlamJar:is the only other way so we didn't really we couldn't think of a rhyme theory slammed is good

34:01Slamwise Gandhi:though yeah okay slam jar and slam wise we're going to start with hollywood hand grenade heroes okay good name so the myth is did you know that psoriatic arthritis may progress over time and

36:11Slamwise Gandhi:Will jumping on a grenade smother the blast enough to save the people around you? So this is seen in a lot of Hollywood blockbuster movies. Grenade flies on the floor. Last minute decision. All the hero can do is jump on that grenade. Kill themselves with the blow. I'd never do that. No, you're not the hero.

36:29Stevie:What if it was me right next to it? Why would that make any difference? Do you want to save my life? I don't. Why? I wouldn't do it if it was my bloody dad. What, if you're right there? If you're right there anyway. Yeah, but you're there as well. Oh, am I dead anyway? You're next to a grenade. Yeah. And I'm a bit further away from the grenade. I'd flick the grenade up and volley it more towards me. You would, wouldn't you? You would, and you'd write it in your Sunday League notes. Great, great flick today. Alfie's head's blown off.

37:02Slamwise Gandhi:Byron impressed. So the theory is that it will actually save the people around the person. So am I dying anyway, even if I don't jump on it? Potentially, or at least grievous. 100 % I'm doing that there. Or at least grievous. Well, if it's true or not, that's what always happens in the movie. In the first Captain America movie, he throws like a fake grenade into a crowd of all the army people to be like, let's see if any of them will do anything. And Steve Rogers is the one who dives on it. But he's a superhero. No, he's not at the time. No, this is pre-getting the superhero stuff. So it's just to show that he's got the mental to do it.

37:38Slamwise Gandhi:That's why they then go, you're our guy. Because all the other ones are like, oh, no, I'm not going to do it.

37:42SlamJar:Yeah, that's normal though, isn't it? So there's two options, right? One, you don't jump on the grenade, you all get blown up. Or two, you jump on the grenade, you're going to get blown up anyway, but you die a hero. Potentially, yeah. Well, why would you not pick that one? Why would you physically not pick that one?

37:56Slamwise Gandhi:Well, maybe because it's an in-the-moment thing. You might think, because they always say as well, with grenade, the blast goes slightly up. So they say lay down is the best thing to do, isn't it?

38:05SlamJar:Right. But that's like saying to me, right, Stevie, tomorrow you're going to die. Yeah. And you've got two options. You can die and you will die just Stevie White. Yeah. Right. or you can die and everyone just hears that you're an absolute fucking legend forever.

38:19Slamwise Gandhi:What did I do to become a legend?

38:23SlamJar:Save the life of a small baby.

38:25Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, I'd probably have to do it when I... Yeah, you'd do it.

38:27Stevie:A little baby's pretty small, though.

38:30SlamJar:That's not the problem here, is it? You saved the life of a massive baby.

38:36Slamwise Gandhi:It's actually a sumo, firstly, you saved the life. Okay, yeah. I'll do it, then. Okay, so we'll start with this one. Do you think this, before we actually get into it, do you guys think this would actually save someone or do you think the grenades are so powerful, even if it hits the human, it's still going to go through and hit others around?

38:53SlamJar:I know what I think, mate. I don't even need to theorise.

38:55Stevie:I know what I think, but I also think it depends on something for me.

38:58SlamJar:How fat the human is?

39:00Stevie:Absolutely not. But now I am thinking.

39:04SlamJar:What are you thinking?

39:05Stevie:Like the technology of grenades. A World War II grenade, is that different to a 2026 grenade in terms of how... Yeah, it would be, wouldn't it?

39:14Slamwise Gandhi:I think the idea of it is pretty much the same thing. It's a hard metal casing. Like a pine cone. Did you know also, this is a really pointless part of it. Yeah. But they were originally named after pomegranates, I believe. Grenades? Yeah, it's like grenade in French. Oh, yeah. Because the inside was full of things that would all fly out. But now it's just the metal casing itself, the reactions caused by pulling the pin out, which then causes the inside to do the reaction, which bangs and the outer shell all breaks into loads of pieces and it's those pieces that hit you. What, not the ball bearings inside?

39:48Slamwise Gandhi:Well, I think the original had the ball bearings, but that was more like a cluster grenade.

39:52SlamJar:Right.

39:52Slamwise Gandhi:And now it's the metal shards. Yeah, it's like the shards of it that would hit the people around. But he does do a really quick test. You know in films when they use their teeth to pull off the thing and lob it, he couldn't do it. It takes 10 pounds of... Like it's so hard to actually pull the pin out, you need 10 pounds of force to pull it out. So when he was trying it with his teeth, it was just hurting his teeth too much. Really? So weird little thing. Not actually part of the myth, but he busted that. Couldn't do it. So whenever you see that in a film, pulling the pin out of a grenade with their teeth and lobbing it, just use your other hand.

40:19Slamwise Gandhi:Right. Couldn't work. So what are we saying? Are you saying jumping on a grenade would save people or wouldn't?

40:24SlamJar:If the person's fat enough.

40:26Slamwise Gandhi:We'll go average human.

40:28SlamJar:75 kilo. Okay. Who's average? I need to picture somebody who's average. I'm a visual learner. Mini minter.

40:37Slamwise Gandhi:No, too tall. Danny Arons. Okay. Danny Aarons jumps on a grenade next to you. Are you surviving?

40:43Stevie:I feel like it would. What, it'd hit me still? No, I feel like it... I don't know. I feel like if it's to do with the little bits, would they not just get stuck in?

40:54SlamJar:Yeah, they'd get hit on him first, and then by the time they go through him, it wouldn't have enough force. So I reckon Danny Aarons would save my life. Depends how far away you are as well.

41:03Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, how close are we? Well, we're saying... So say the grenade landed at the camera in front of us there, which is, what, four or five feet away? No. sorry I'm being an idiot we're all here Danny jumps on it right there nah

41:14Stevie:five feet away just explodes us all it's a grenade what am I on about I'm thinking it's a party popper it's a fucking grenade isn't it

41:20SlamJar:I think it saves me

41:22Stevie:okay I think you can suffocate a grenade

41:24Slamwise Gandhi:okay well then the next question I need to ask you guys is how would you go about testing this

41:30SlamJar:chuck Danny Aaron Danny Aaron's on a grenade can't chuck a real human on one just a dummy innit a pig put a pig on there just a dummy

41:39Slamwise Gandhi:yeah so fake human it's essentially along those lines we use pigs a lot in the last episode in ballistics gel remember that stuff so they create a human sized dummy using a form of a ballistics gel

41:50SlamJar:or a pig if you look

41:51Slamwise Gandhi:and they make sure it has the correct density and weight to compare it to a real human in a situation and then they create some plywood actors to stand at different distances away from the grenade like in a circle so they're not all there so you've got a 5 foot 10 foot 15 foot away so you've got those and there to represent can you stop interrupting him please

42:15Stevie:every two seconds you chime Mr. Chime

42:20Slamwise Gandhi:and then there to represent to show at five feet away how much damage is that going to cause ten feet blah blah blah they ran a control test first

42:28SlamJar:no I'm just picking my dry skin on my ear really bad dry skin sorry I'm just going to flame it

42:36Slamwise Gandhi:the thing you guys both missed in the way you do it is that in all of these tests, remember, you've got to run a control first. How much damage will that grenade cause if no one jumps on it? Let it be fucked. That's the first thing they do. And in this, it caused significant damage, even to the plywood 15 feet away. So the shrapnel went that far. They say in the episode, the shrapnel from a grenade can travel 20 to 24 ,000 feet per second, which is 10 times the speed of a bullet.

43:07Stevie:Oh. I think it's going to go

43:09Slamwise Gandhi:that's how amazing grenades are I think Slamwise

43:12Stevie:just played a blinder yeah

43:13Slamwise Gandhi:unless a few a few seasons later they go actually grenades are well slow yeah that's what they say in that episode I think both me and Aaron's are fucked there then they've done the test they know 15 feet away all of these all of these people are getting hit they then put the dummy on top of the grenade what are we saying predictions it just it just fucking obliterates everything like it would anyway the grenade ripped the dummy into shreds. Yeah. Dummies completely gone. The closest plywood figure, which was five feet away, was hit by 10 less pieces of shrapnel than it was in one. So it would be very dependent on where it hit, but mostly it kept the shrapnel low.

43:56Slamwise Gandhi:So it was more leg damage. All right. So potential survival there, five feet away. And then none of those pieces went all the way through the wood either. So if they were to hit, they'd be stuck inside rather than like a clean straight through. What's better for you? I guess it depends where it goes inside. They always say like with a bullet, if it goes straight through, it's better, isn't it? Because then you haven't got to get the bullet out.

44:20SlamJar:Yeah.

44:21Slamwise Gandhi:But I guess it depends how many.

44:22SlamJar:But apparently an exit wound is way bigger than an entry wound.

44:27Stevie:Well, apparently. Getting shot is really sore.

44:33Slamwise Gandhi:Thank you. Thanks for the input. and after the 5 foot, 10 foot, 15 foot, no damage at all. So it does help? It helped massively.

44:46SlamJar:It would genuinely... Well done. I remember the last two episodes, I was really good at this. Yeah. I think this is my calling in life, just for people to go, what do you reckon would happen? And me go, I reckon this, and I'll be right. Well, let's see if we can keep a score in this episode.

44:59Stevie:I've got six myths. So what's your name again? Jack. Slamjar. Slamjar.

45:05SlamJar:Why did you answer him so seriously? I thought he was in his main character energy Slam Joe and Slam Wives

45:12Slamwise Gandhi:So for this one guys Here we go Will jumping on a grenade smother the blast enough to save people They say it will which means It will Theory

45:24SlamJar:It's not the pun though Theory confirmed

45:29Slamwise Gandhi:Oh theory You say theory Theory confirmed There we go Every time I say theory, my phone thinks I'm saying Siri. Stop. Okay. Oh, God. Next one. Okay.

45:41SlamJar:Could be a nightmare when you go to Syria.

45:42Slamwise Gandhi:From one explosion to another.

45:45SlamJar:It just sounds like Siri. You're saying Siri all the time. Won't do the bomb. I won't get a blick. I was just literally saying. That was worried. That word just sounds like that word, doesn't it? Yeah.

45:57Slamwise Gandhi:Poor timing. I was doing a good segue.

46:01Stevie:Yeah.

46:01Slamwise Gandhi:From one explosion to another. The next myth Coke and Mentos Does eating Mentos And drinking Coke At the same time Explode your stomach? Nah

46:13SlamJar:Because the reaction Would already happen Sooner than that In the mouth Oh you mean drink the drink And then eat the Mentos Put the Mentos down Is it Mexican Coca-Cola Or normal Coca-Cola? Just normal Diet?

46:24Slamwise Gandhi:Zero? Irrelevant? I think just the most carbonated Is all that matters Lime This one actually comes From a viral video So a video genuinely went everywhere where someone attempted it and apparently ended up in hospital with a ruptured stomach. Oh my word. The little pause between word was weird. Wait, so you've just told us the answer, haven't you? No, I've told you. No, I've told you there was a video that went viral.

46:49Stevie:Look how smug he is. No. I've told you. Listen to what I'm saying.

46:54Slamwise Gandhi:There was a video that went viral where apparently he ended up in hospital with a ruptured stomach. We don't know that.

47:00SlamJar:Right. There's no proof. So if you put a mento in a Coca-Cola and shake it up, it will explode. So you're asking, could that happen in your belly?

47:09Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. Right. Will that same reaction happen once it goes inside your stomach?

47:13Stevie:I think it's going to be something like, in my mind, your stomach acid or something in there neutralizes something and something, something, something. And it doesn't.

47:22SlamJar:I see what you're saying, but you're not saying much. No? No.

47:26Stevie:Hardly anything. But you got me, didn't you?

47:29SlamJar:That's a talent. I think your stomach acid quells.

47:35Stevie:You're not saying anything now. He's talking neutralizers, which is correct.

47:40SlamJar:You came at me and then went with quells. Fuck you, mate. So are we both saying you don't think it's possible? No, I think there is still an explosion. Okay. But I think it's like the grenade, it's diminished. Okay. It's very much like the grenade. It's like, imagine you're putting your Coke and Mento in Danny Aaron's who's in your stomach. He's saving the explosion from really rupturing your esophagus.

48:05Slamwise Gandhi:Okay, so Danny Aaron's is the acid. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so are you saying the myth is does eating Mentos and drinking Coke explode your stomach? You're saying it does or doesn't?

48:13SlamJar:I'm saying it does, but it's only a mild irritant. So it doesn't explode your stomach. You're just saying... You can't say yes and no.

48:21Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. Which one are you saying? Do you think it explodes or ruptures your stomach? No. No. No? You didn't seem confident when you said that. No, not that, no. Originally you said yes.

48:29Stevie:Nice and no.

48:30Slamwise Gandhi:Oh yeah. So,

48:31SlamJar:well next question is how would you guys test that? Stevie, come in. I'd open your mouth like a baby bird. I'd wank your throat. Get the tablet in. The mento. We spoke about this before on the pod. That's how you get dogs to take medicine. You wank the throat. No mate.

48:47Slamwise Gandhi:Okay. Why do you do that with your hand at the same time?

48:51SlamJar:So you're a visual learner. Okay, thank you. And then I put the mento in you and then spray loads of coke in your mouth. Yeah.

48:59Slamwise Gandhi:I'm still making you eat it. You just test it on me. Clabish cheeks. How would you see what reaction's happening in my stomach? Are you dead or not, mate? How's your belly? Yeah, but you just said there'd be a small reaction. Yeah, because you'd sit there and you'd either go,

49:13SlamJar:I feel absolutely fine, or you'd go, and your belly would fucking explode, wouldn't it?

49:18Slamwise Gandhi:No, because I'm not saying, the stomach isn't your belly. The horizon. That's good, man. That's really good stuff. But the stomach isn't your belly. The stomach's inside here. Yeah, but I think it would come through. What do you think the skin would rip as well? You're fat and everything in front of your stomach would open up from the ribs. What's happening here? Well, not your fat.

49:38Stevie:Okay, that's...

49:40SlamJar:You're not fat anymore. You lost all that.

49:41Stevie:If a grenade's chucked on the ground, shove it down Stevie's gob.

49:46SlamJar:I'll probably be all right after. If you come running over his head. He's on my fitness pal.

49:51Stevie:You just see me going... You all right, boys?

49:54SlamJar:That's the new fad. I don't know where we are. I said, how would you test it?

50:00Slamwise Gandhi:How would you test it, Alf?

50:02SlamJar:Jack's wanking off my throat.

50:03Stevie:I don't know, get a pig out again. Dead pig. They always go dead pig. They do go dead pig a lot.

50:09SlamJar:How's a pig going to swallow it if it's dead, though?

50:12Stevie:Wank it's right? Yeah.

50:14Slamwise Gandhi:That's how dogs take their medicine. For this one, they use a pig stomach. They fill the stomach with a fluid that has the exact same acidity as the human stomach after eating to make it as realistic as possible. And then the stomach is rigged with a plastic tube set up to replicate the throat going down into it.

50:34Stevie:Stop into it, just let him say it. I'm getting it. Do you know what I mean, though? Like, I'm trying to listen and I swallow, yeah? Like, trying to get there first. I just want to hear it.

50:42SlamJar:I want to acknowledge that. No, no, he's trying to prove that he knows what's happening.

50:46Stevie:Yeah, I know, it's annoying me. It's annoying me.

50:48Slamwise Gandhi:To be fair, normally he says nothing and then he goes, what? So it's nice to know he is listening. No, but nod a lot.

50:53Stevie:there's a middle ground there I'll go back to reading my water bottle that's your fault apologies apologies everyone that's because I'm insecure I'm putting you down that's another comment I keep getting they forced the Mentos

51:05Slamwise Gandhi:and the Coke to go down the tube into the pig stomach with acid inside it what are your predictions?

51:12SlamJar:well that's what we're just doing on this pig stomach

51:15Slamwise Gandhi:on the pig stomach in this actual test it gave a little explosion

51:19SlamJar:you could see the stomach widen but not enough to suffer to nothing mate

51:23Slamwise Gandhi:nothing happened alfie's correct absolutely nothing happens there is no reaction at all they did a quick few tests about what you guys were saying to see if the acid was stopping it so they actually just put the acid straight inside a container and did the mentos challenge the same as normal fizzed up loads so the acid made no difference to the reaction at all what they realized is that as you drink the drink the co2 is lost from the drink

51:52Stevie:CO2 is I'm not at one No that was a nice one but it's because I was it's because I was waiting for you to make a noise and you took ages so when you finally did it it made me laugh I'm sorry

52:04Slamwise Gandhi:I'm ruining this I'm so sorry what they realised is that when you drink it or when they were pouring it down all the fizz from the drink goes so the fizz is what's making the reaction happen with the Mentos but if you're drinking it the fizz is dissipated it's gone

52:18SlamJar:yeah so no reaction happens So it's kind of like you couldn't light a fire in a belly because there's no oxygen around. Yeah. Clever. Yeah.

52:28Stevie:There's a lot of things you couldn't do as well. What, in a belly? Yeah. Cook your dinner. No. Go to sleep. Go for a walk. All true. Yeah. Theorizing. Yeah, it's not as fear. That's what we do.

52:41Slamwise Gandhi:Once they realize none of this works because of the way... They try a load of different ways of pouring the drink gently and just trying to make it mix, and they use a translucent balloon instead so they can even see what happens inside and just nothing happens no matter how they do it. They do one final test where they attach the stomach to the top of the Coke bottle instead. So they put the stomach on the bottle with the Mentos ready to be dropped from inside the stomach and they drop it and it balloons up the stomach but only because of all the liquid going up into it. So it doesn't ever actually do anything more.

53:15Slamwise Gandhi:Who's paying these scientists to fuck about doing this shit? TV show. Are they real scientists then? They were both, they worked in like the film industry and stuff. No. They're both like huge, very, very smart people. I think one of them, I think Adam might still have like a massive YouTube channel where he does like test and stuff.

53:35SlamJar:One of them's not here anymore, are they?

53:37Slamwise Gandhi:I think Jamie and Adam still are. I think one of the, there's another three of them. Tory, might be Tory who died. Oh no. But yeah. but I think Adam and Jamie never got on which is really weird they did it for like 10 years they always just said like outside of Mythbusters they'd never hang out or anything really they just did the show together yeah different people wow so yeah and then yeah they did that filled up and then they no exploding stomach at all so they were like this is a bit annoying so then they just attached a air canister to it to see what would happen and they inflated up with an air canister and it exploded why?

54:11Slamwise Gandhi:just because they wanted to they wanted to see the explosion they do that a lot in Mythbusters if they don't get the reaction they want they'll just keep going to see what causes it. They're going, if that doesn't cause it, what will?

54:19SlamJar:Do you remember that old YouTube channel that I'd forgotten about for years until you just said that called like Russia FPS or something? What? You remember that, fucker? Yeah, there was a YouTube channel that was like big, like Ray William Johnson big, like one of the top 10 in the world and they would just shoot stuff with a bullet and slow-mo it? No. That's sick. Have I made that up? FPS Russia. Do you remember that thing? That's so sick. I've never heard of it. Was he? Well, the owner might have been. Yeah, this guy. Holy shit.

54:53Stevie:What's he done?

54:55SlamJar:Kyle, there'll be so many people out there that will remember this. Put that on the Reddit if you remember this guy. Kyle Myers is an American podcaster. Oh, he's into, everyone's got podcasts now. Under the stage name FPS Russia. He was a heavily accented professional Russian from Moscow. Professional Russian? the video's sent around firearms and explosions. He got 970 million views, and he finished in 2016.

55:22Slamwise Gandhi:That's mad. Yeah. That's roughly a myth forever.

55:24SlamJar:Oh, really? Yeah. Legal issues. Shall we find out?

55:28Stevie:Yeah, go on. Unless it's something too sad.

55:31SlamJar:Maya's residence was searched by upwards of 40 members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosions agents, blah, blah, blah, and they found that basically loads of explosions. Explosives.

55:43Slamwise Gandhi:Sounds like that's what his whole channel was.

55:45SlamJar:Yeah. Yeah. He just had loads of stuff he should have had really, but he was putting that on his YouTube channel.

55:49Slamwise Gandhi:Oh, there you go. Russia, FPS Russia. Nice. Shout out.

55:53SlamJar:Really boring tangent. So I liked that. Did you? Yeah.

55:56Slamwise Gandhi:Coke and Mentos. Does eating Mentos and drinking Coke explode your stomach? They said it's meant to. Theory. Slammed. Confirmed. Slammed. Slammed. It doesn't.

56:09Stevie:I thought if we got it right, we said confirmed. No. No, it's about whether the...

56:13Slamwise Gandhi:slammed.

56:14Stevie:You got it right again though. 2-1.

56:16Slamwise Gandhi:He got it right again but irrelevant what he says. Sorry, I'm confused about that.

56:20Stevie:Right, so yes, that was slammed.

56:22SlamJar:I don't know, I should pick slammed.

56:24Slamwise Gandhi:Good though. Yeah. The next one, underwater car escape. If you're trapped in a car that sinks in water, you will not be able to open the door until the cabin is full of water. What?

56:38SlamJar:You're not going to be able to open the door until

56:39Slamwise Gandhi:it's full? You could not open the door pushing against when you're under the water, you can't open it until your car is full of water.

56:46SlamJar:And then you can open it?

56:48Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. That's the theory.

56:50SlamJar:What?

56:51Slamwise Gandhi:Why is that? Who's come up with that theory? Yeah. So this myth has been seen in hundreds of movies and TV shows over the years. In this episode, they actually say that the AAA in America estimate that in one year in the US, 11 ,000 vehicles went off the road and into water with around 300 people dying. Oh my God, that is a nightmare. That's mad how often that happens.

57:13Stevie:It's just thick, aren't it? What? That's not the takeaway from that. Just say, oh, so sad. How are 11 ,000 of them ending up in the water? There's loads of American people.

57:24SlamJar:In the water, by the sounds of it.

57:29Stevie:Don't know what to say there. It's picked a fight for no reason. So you guys just said, like... How are you ending up in the water? Have you ever been close to being in the water? How many times have you crashed your car?

57:41Stevie:it's just because there's no water about otherwise you'd have been in there loads every year

57:47Slamwise Gandhi:very true

57:48SlamJar:that's so true

57:49Slamwise Gandhi:the theory itself is basically saying if you're trapped in a car and it sinks they're saying the only way you could survive that is if you wait until the car fills up then you can open a door and swim to the surface

58:01SlamJar:I don't get what you're unlocking though I don't get why it's going oh can't open it, can't open it it's full up now, boom, door's open, fine

58:07Slamwise Gandhi:they actually start with a test to show why that's a thing so it's called differential pressure the inside of the car is all air which isn't very dense at all the outside is water which is causing like so much pressure on the door that if you're trying to push it you can't there's no way of pushing it because you've got nothing else on your side once the car fills you've then got the same pressure inside the car as you have outside the car so the door will open nicely and he does a quick test to show it using a little box and And because of the water exerting that, he shows that as soon as the water fills up in this small box, the door falls off straight away.

58:43Slamwise Gandhi:So they do prove differential pressure to be a thing, right?

58:45SlamJar:So when the car's originally in the water with no water in the car, why doesn't the pressure of the water go and crumple the car up?

58:52Slamwise Gandhi:Because it's not that much pressure. It's a lot of pressure, but it's not enough to damage. Would it crumple a can? Well, you've chucked a can. You've seen cans in water before.

59:00SlamJar:No, but say you had a can that was sealed and it just had water in, and somehow you could get it really low down in the sea quickly. I know, so there's already water in it. Yeah. What would crush a can?

59:10Slamwise Gandhi:The Titan. Huh? What happened to the Titan? Is that what happened? It literally crushed under all the pressure under the water. God. The deeper you go, the higher that pressure gets.

59:21Stevie:Yeah. I hate going in the water. I wouldn't even go in the deep end of a pool.

59:24SlamJar:Do not swim in America then.

59:25Stevie:Why?

59:26SlamJar:I mean, do not drive in America. All that pools are deep. Yeah. You like the water. Been with you in water before? Have you? Yeah, in Vegas on the rooftop, you was in water. We've seen how long we could hold our breath. I could touch the bottom. What?

59:41Stevie:I could touch the bottom. Oh, is that why? Yeah. Ah. Yeah.

59:46Slamwise Gandhi:So do you guys, what are we saying for predictions on this one? Do you think it's a true thing?

59:51SlamJar:Didn't those people in the submarine turn into like liquid and like... That's how intense the pressure was. Yeah. That's not actually... I know, I don't want this to sound considerate. First time. But everyone talks about that being like, and horrific way to go. It's not though, is it?

1:00:06Slamwise Gandhi:The moment wouldn't have been, but the lead up would have been.

1:00:08SlamJar:Would it? Yeah, because they were trapped

1:00:10Slamwise Gandhi:in quite a while before. You're scared in the dark at the bottom of the ocean. You're aware they can't get the machine, the thing moving and stuff. Did they know that was going to happen? Did they? Well, they couldn't contact anyone. The controller wasn't working. Like they weren't, they were in a situation where they're like going, how the fuck do we get back up?

1:00:27SlamJar:That is absolutely weird. They wouldn't have known

1:00:28Slamwise Gandhi:that was suddenly happening.

1:00:29SlamJar:I genuinely, on my life, thought they were just like going on their expedition. and they were like swimming about in that ball and then all of a sudden it went like that, which is the ideal way to go.

1:00:41Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, that moment I think would have been done. I wouldn't get down there. I would never go down there. There would have been a lead up to it where they're going, how the fuck do we get back up? Yeah. Because the rescue stuff was all happening.

1:00:49SlamJar:Do you think sometimes in life, and obviously it's tragic what happened to them, right? But sometimes it's like, if you're going to piss about like that, things like that are going to happen. Why do you keep weighing in on stuff? It's not to do. Yeah, I mean, personally, No, like he took me to Disneyland last month. And I'm on a roller coaster, right? And it's going... Have you been on a roller coaster? I hate this. They're shit. Yeah, I hate this. And it's rapid, right? And I'm going like 60 miles an hour. And I'm flying down into this tunnel. And my head is so close to just being smashed to smithereens.

1:01:20SlamJar:Why am I in this situation? Yeah, no, that's why I don't do anything like that.

1:01:24Slamwise Gandhi:But then you can put that on anything. You can go like... Robbie goes skiing all the time. People always have skiing injuries.

1:01:30SlamJar:Yeah, horrific. Why put yourself in that situation? But then you drive all the time. Yeah, because you have... Sunday League. What? Sunday League football. How often does someone die and get really hurt? No, but you can snap your leg. Oh, yeah, you can do that. There's a lot of things

1:01:42Slamwise Gandhi:that could cause... You do things for enjoyment. What's that? It's middle fingers broken, isn't it? Is it?

1:01:47SlamJar:Oh, yeah. Million pieces. So it's like, most things you do,

1:01:50Slamwise Gandhi:you pick and choose. You value what the risk is worth.

1:01:54SlamJar:Yeah, and going down to the deeps of the sea, bad.

1:01:58Slamwise Gandhi:For you, not worth it, but these people really wanted to see Titanic. I wouldn't go.

1:02:03SlamJar:I wouldn't go. You can go up there? No, I'll be up there one day anyway. What? What? What do you mean? What? Are you just going to float away? What are you on about? Well, we're going to die. Yeah. Right? Be in the ground. And then one day... Further away from space. No, all of this is going to just explode. I'm going to be floating up there one day anyway. But not you. You're not going to go... My body will... Well, my sort of rotten body will.

1:02:27Stevie:My atoms will be up there. But you're... Do you think... Are you picturing a little atom with a smiley face and it's your face and you're going, oh, hello, everyone. Look at the view. That's nice, isn't it?

1:02:40SlamJar:I didn't need to go to space. No, I'm dead, but I'm going to be up there anyway. So fucking, what's the point going now? Because you can actually experience it. That's like if someone said, do you want to go six feet under in a coffin? You go, nah, one day I'll be there.

1:02:53Slamwise Gandhi:You don't want to experience that. Whereas being able to see Earth would be cool.

1:02:56Stevie:I wouldn't go no, because one day I'll be there. I'd go no, because that sounds horrific.

1:03:00Slamwise Gandhi:You like looking out the window when you're on a plane, going, that looks well cool from up here. Imagine going higher up. What's the point?

1:03:06SlamJar:What's the point? Yeah, but I'm safe. I don't think you'd be safe in a rocket.

1:03:11Slamwise Gandhi:What was the question? So do you guys, what are you thinking about this myth?

1:03:15SlamJar:Yeah, I reckon it's true, that.

1:03:18Stevie:Yeah, I'm going to say true. Yeah? Why would they put it in a film if it's not true? Because that's just an annoying bit. But do you know what I mean? Mate, you know Star Wars in real, don't you? No, I know, but I'm saying that's not good for the plot. Waiting for the cards to fill up is not good for the plot. That is, because it's like a drama, isn't it? Yeah, it's more intense. Oh, he can't get out, he can't get out. I know about writing and stuff. So as you know from the comments. What? You're funny? No. I know a lot about a lot. I just happen to know about that.

1:03:49SlamJar:I've never seen anyone say that. I've heard them say funny. I'll have to have a little look. I'll research it. Yeah.

1:05:28SlamJar:Do it. Most of these things, like, just do it.

1:05:31Slamwise Gandhi:By saying...

1:05:32SlamJar:How would you do it safely? Fiat Punto. Oxygen mask. Get down there. Try it. Yeah. Put a Fiat Punto in a swimming pool.

1:05:43Slamwise Gandhi:Nice. Not far off. Car is irrelevant. Like, specific car. That's your choice. To test this life in a real situation, they suspend a car from a crane over a 15-foot deep swimming pool. What?

1:05:55SlamJar:The guys who do this TV show do this? Actually do this? Yeah.

1:05:58Slamwise Gandhi:Well, they're controlling it and going... So someone else is controlling the crane. Adam sits inside the car. He's inside the car. He's done the worst part. So Adam goes into the car and the safety diver's in the water, obviously. They lower the car. To properly test the theory, Adam can only reach for air as a backup if he needs it. Because the theory they're testing is that it's survivable if you can go under and once the door opens, you can then swim back up. So he has to see if it's possible to keep his breath in. This isn't worth the show.

1:06:28SlamJar:No, that's what I mean, mate. It's not worth the TV show. Leave it.

1:06:32Slamwise Gandhi:If he needs to grab the oxygen, he can.

1:06:34SlamJar:We do not need to know, though, Stevie. You do. That bad.

1:06:37Slamwise Gandhi:But imagine you're in that real-life situation, and I'll show you why it's relevant towards the end of this one. I'm really passionate about it. So he's only got the air if he needs it, and to see if he can get back up. What are your predictions? They drop him in. He's in normal clothes, no shoes of gear or anything. and he's waiting for the door to the car to start. He gets out. He gets out.

1:07:02Stevie:I think he gets out because I think you've said, I'll tell you why it's important because people are waiting for their cars to fill up. Yeah. And they shouldn't be. So you've ruined that with your silly, like trying to be right. You've ruined it.

1:07:15Slamwise Gandhi:Okay. Yeah. Or have I? He waits for the car to start filling up, As soon as it gets above him, he's now holding his breath under the water, trying to open the door, doesn't open. Wow. All is pressure. He cannot open the door. That's what I was right before. The car fills up completely, tries again, opens instantly. However, just before the car fully filled up, he needed to reach for the oxygen, take in a few breaths of air, then open the door and leave. He comes up to the surface and he just looks at the camera and just goes, I died. Don't think he did.

1:07:55SlamJar:because I think he knew the oxygen was there. He had that easy way out, right? If it was that true terrifying moment, life or death, you would get another 30 seconds out of your lungs, I think. I don't know if you would. I agree with you. Yeah, I think if it's there, I'm going to go, fucking I need that. But if it's not there, I would have still waited for 10 seconds and I'd have got that door open.

1:08:15Slamwise Gandhi:Well, at this point... But then you'd have to swim up. At this point, they do theory confirmed because technically the door could not open. No matter what he did, it could not open until the car filled up. So the pressure differential thing is true. It is true that you wouldn't be able to open the door. But then they do a few more tests to see, firstly, if you could open the door as soon as the car hits the water. If you're in that situation, can you just quickly open it before the thing starts filling up? No. Open straight away. How does it? So if you're hitting that water, if you can do it instantly because you're doing it before the pressure starts to go against the door because it's not fully under yet.

1:08:51Slamwise Gandhi:so that was fine but then as soon as it got anywhere how do you break the glass and get out that way they test this as well you are good at this

1:09:01Stevie:I'm sorry, I never would have thought to ask that, well done you

1:09:05Slamwise Gandhi:once the water gets about halfway up the window there is just no way of opening it until the car completely fills up so you've kind of lost that opportunity if you don't think of doing it straight away then they test if it's possible to open the car windows if it's an automatic or smash the car the electronics won't work

1:09:24SlamJar:let's get that straight

1:09:26Slamwise Gandhi:again you say this to test that they put a car door in water for 45 minutes and then try it and the electronics still work perfectly wow so they do actually test that however it's got an answer

1:09:39Stevie:for bloody everything this boy got it all got it all in here then there's research

1:09:43Slamwise Gandhi:then they do the window test both if you could open a manual one and the automatic one with the amount of pressure on the window as there would be underwater and neither of them work at all. There's just no way of opening the window. Smashing the window, they put a door under the water and they try with everyday objects that you might have in your car, so your keys, and even try steel toe caps just in case you happen to be wearing them. No way of opening at all. They do test it with one of those window smashing kits that you can get.

1:10:11SlamJar:My granddad got me one of them the other day. Instant.

1:10:14Slamwise Gandhi:Even under that pressure.

1:10:15SlamJar:Get that in the car. Yeah. No, no, no, no. That's where he's put it. In the car. Yeah, he called me up. Went to come round. I got something for you genuinely it's weird that you're talking about this and then I'll show have you seen it in my car no yeah I went in he was sat in his little chair and he went I've just saved your life that's what he said and I went what and he went look at this and he found it on Amazon and it was it looks like like a you know like one of them lighters that you get in the car one of them round things that you press and you put it on the window and you press the button apparently it shatters and he said get that in your car because with them cars made by Elon they get caught in storms in floods in America and people get trapped in.

1:10:52SlamJar:So keep that. Keep that in your head.

1:10:53Stevie:What a lovely, lovely man. That's really nice.

1:10:56SlamJar:But I don't think we get floods like that. No, but still. Relevant, innit? Still, though. Peace of mind, innit?

1:11:01Slamwise Gandhi:If you ever end up one of the people landing underwater and you don't get that door open quick enough, that is genuinely, that seems to be absolutely perfect underwater. So that's kind of it for the whole thing. They can't smash windows without something like that unless you happen to have one from your granddad. You're kind of fucked. But the myth is confirmed because the water differential thing is true. They do one more test just to see if it's actually possible to survive it with what you've just said, you'd get more breath. The Jamie suggests to Adam, you've wasted so much energy trying to open the door when the pressure's too much that you're wasting your oxygen because if you're doing all that, you're struggling to breathe and wasting energy.

1:11:39Slamwise Gandhi:He said, how about this time? We go under again. You do nothing other than sit calmly, hold your breath until the car's filled and then open it and it takes about a minute 30 and he gets out completely calm because he's not wasted any energy until it's possible to open the door so but then they still say it's still confirmed and you wouldn't survive it because in the real life situation if you've gone off the edge and landed in water you're not gonna go okay i know what to do and you're not gonna take a deep big deep breath exactly so you're gonna be in the real panic but but it is possible obviously depending on certain people who can hold their breath longer and like a few other kind of things but that is everything on the car submerged so

1:12:19SlamJar:what about the back can you can the back doors would they open any easier or not

1:12:24Slamwise Gandhi:why would they

1:12:25SlamJar:no I just wondered would they they're the same nah but they're doors theorising theorising okay they've opened

1:12:32Slamwise Gandhi:I'll give you a reason they would technically open easier inwards car doors open inwards no but you might be able to smash no there is a reason you could technically get the back doors quicker you know I said if I was dying

1:12:45SlamJar:And my last iron wish would be to smash your back doors in. And I'd giggle.

1:12:49Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. There is technically a reason they would open easier. And it's because the engine is obviously the heaviest part of the car. So when a car first hits the water, it's nose diving. And as I said, as soon as the front, as soon as the window of the door is over a certain amount, you're no longer able to open the door because of the pressure. Because you're nose diving, technically the back door isn't under as much water yet.

1:13:09SlamJar:Yeah, by a fucking 0.1 second. No, you'd be... The car's going in, you're going, God I've got a bit more time of that back door because that's got more time

1:13:17Slamwise Gandhi:It doesn't sink as quickly as you think it would It does It's quick I reckon you'd have time to climb into the back if you did it quick enough Fucking hell Well as I said if he opened the door straight away it was fine So am I right or wrong? You both said it was didn't you? So you're both correct Free to No we were right

1:13:34SlamJar:We were right Were you? No we were right I said I thought you were wrong so I was trying to read you wasn't I? I was saying as soon as it fills up you can open the door Yeah he did say that

1:13:43Stevie:You were right as well I don't know if I did say that. You were right as well. I know now. Theory? Confirmed. Confirmed. Confirmed.

1:13:54Slamwise Gandhi:Okay. Three, two. I've got one here that I think we might have actually spoken about on the podcast before. Okay. Don't do it then. No. Well, I've got proof behind it. Oh, right. Do it then. I think we might have spoken about it maybe on like a facts episode. You can't fold a piece of paper in half more than seven times. have you guys heard of this theory before if you take a piece of paper it's impossible to fold it

1:14:19SlamJar:more than seven times at seven you can't get eight have you heard this before yeah yeah even if the bit of paper was the size of the uk folding it surely you could surely you could have you ever tried it yeah i've tried it i've tried it loads what could you do no you could never do it but but how small can it get if it's the size of the uk though yeah so uk and then you fold it in half it's north and south fold it in half again you got norwich that's that's two folds fold it in half again mile cross it'll get smaller quicker than you think yeah fold it enough again

1:14:57Slamwise Gandhi:my house smaller quicker than you think but also with every fold my house with every fold more layers so it gets smaller that way but gets thicker interesting and if it's that big that's going to be thick so that's where it then gets hard to fold so starting with this one do you guys think it's possible to fold a piece of paper no matter the

1:15:19SlamJar:size more than seven times no no and you you mean in half don't you yeah half so this is this is a

1:15:26Slamwise Gandhi:stipulation i'll say on this one there was they they speak about a student i think in america who decided to get toilet paper because it's thinner and she rolled out 4 000 feet of it folded it in half down to 2 000 folded it in half down to 1 000 she managed to get i think 12 folds and they say this doesn't count because what you're doing there is folding it lengthways every single time the actual myth needs to be fold in half you'd rotate 90 degrees fold in half rotate 90 like a proper fold they try it with a piece of paper they do try like half half half then rotate half half they still can't get above seven yeah properly oh you just told us no we said we said you can't that's this is what i'm saying you both said you can't that's that's with a standard piece of paper how would you test it if you weren't going to use a standard piece of paper you'd have

1:16:19Stevie:It's a bit of paper, size of the UK. Yeah.

1:16:22Slamwise Gandhi:How are you going to do that? What? Size of the... How are you folding that?

1:16:25Stevie:Do it in Australia.

1:16:29Stevie:With theorising.

1:16:31Slamwise Gandhi:You need it to be feasible. They're going to test this. They're not going to use a bit of paper the size of the UK. Part of that car,

1:16:35Stevie:big car park or warehouse or something. Just do a biggie.

1:16:39Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, that's okay. So they do try it with paper first. They even actually try and use clamps on that eightfold because you can start to do it but it always just comes undone. With clamps and stuff, they manage it but the paper's ripped a bit and then that obviously doesn't count they try loads of different folds diagonal seven's always the max with a why is that then what's the science behind that seven folds creates 128 layers every single time you do it you're doubling the amount of layers so after seven you're at 128 that eight fold makes it 256 layers of paper so it's so thick by that point that that final bend just can't work is it still really big because i'm picturing that it goes down to this side yeah it's like a normal piece of paper a4 would be

1:17:24Stevie:like what about the oh so that still looks really big on the eighth fold but they can't

1:17:29Slamwise Gandhi:get it over to and keep it okay so they then try a bigger one which is 12.5 by 15 feet piece of paper which is 288 times larger than an a4 piece how many folds do you think they manage on that one five dean just let him theorize what does he mean by five team uh i meant nine did you

1:17:54SlamJar:so but you said a minute ago you don't think it's possible no so i went nine if you take a few off it and go to seven seven seven is that because when i arrived at seven stevie put his thumb up

1:18:08Stevie:And the reaction to when you said any other number was negative. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

1:18:14Slamwise Gandhi:Seven. So even with like 15 foot worth of paper, seven is all they manage. So at this point, they go to a NASA airport hangar and create a piece of paper 170 foot by 220 foot long. UK. He's good.

1:18:34SlamJar:Theorising.

1:18:35Slamwise Gandhi:What are your predictions on this huge, huge piece of paper? but they need so many people to fold this. I don't know about you, but that's what I think. Yeah? Yeah, I agree.

1:18:44Stevie:We think seven. Seven.

1:18:47Slamwise Gandhi:They managed to get seven folds. Then... We're working this out. On the eighth fold...

1:18:52Stevie:Well, you did it because you said... What?

1:18:54Slamwise Gandhi:They managed the eighth. To attempt nine, they use a steamroller just to flatten out the edge. You're bending the rolls, yeah. They do it for ten. And on the tenth, the paper's so heavy at ten, they need to use a forklift like it's that even though it's just a piece of paper on the 10th fold they need a forklift to lift it and they just about manage it with a 10 they say they get the 11th but it shows like a close up and it's not it doesn't really look in half and I see rips in the paper so I'm not counting that but they genuinely without any help other than the fact that it's massive do manage to get to and a steamroller no the 8th I say the 8th the 8th they get to pre-steamroller then they want to see if they can go any further

1:19:36Stevie:so they do are they recycling this or just is that just tens of thousands of trees going so they can do some folding yeah it's literally that it's good that

1:19:44Slamwise Gandhi:they don't mention it

1:19:45Stevie:nah

1:19:45Slamwise Gandhi:but either way you're both wrong theory slammed yeah slammed you're not getting it I said slammed you fucking said slammed

1:19:54Stevie:you said busted flat it's your own game you made me look like a mug because it sounded like I said it yeah really you need to fix up now sorry we're both wrong though so still score stays same though 3-2 but we're working together so it's kind of like five. Yeah, I'll allow it. Thank you. Okay, fair enough. Five right, none wrong.

1:20:13Slamwise Gandhi:Okay, even though I've only done four. Just let us... Yeah, bonus point.

1:20:17Stevie:Just literally let us... For theorising.

1:20:18Slamwise Gandhi:Be happy and have five. The next myth, the next theory. If you sneeze with your eyes open... Your eyes pop out. Your eyes will pop out of your head. You know it. You know the theory.

1:20:29SlamJar:That was a thing my nan used to scare me with when I was younger.

1:20:33Stevie:why did she want you sneezing with your eyes shut so bad

1:20:45Slamwise Gandhi:you know what I mean why is she threatening you with that

1:20:49SlamJar:that is such a good point I don't know she used to say I don't know but she also used to say if you pull an ugly because I used to go like that a lot and the wind changes that'll stay like that yeah I had that one Yeah, and I remember being at play school once. You know when you're in the outer house, mobiles or whatever they call it? Yeah. I remember sitting on the carpet, and my teacher, I can't remember what she was doing, probably something lovely, like reading a story, but she wound me up, and I literally... I was like, what? She's doing something lovely, and she's wound you up? I was a kid, I was really annoyed that I couldn't, like...

1:21:19SlamJar:Grinch, innit? Yeah, eat a juice or something, I don't know. Drink a juice. But I remember I was looking at her, and I had my nan's words of advice ringing in my head, and I wanted to pull a face at her, So I was like literally looking out the window because I remember it being quite grey and I was waiting for the trees to go super still. And then I was like, like that, and got a little tongue out because I thought if I'm doing it while that tree's blowing. Smart that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now look at you. And that's why I look like this. I had normal teeth before that.

1:21:50Slamwise Gandhi:So what are we both saying on the sneezing?

1:21:54Stevie:If you sneeze with your eyes open. I don't think it's possible to sneeze with your eyes open. I think it is. nah no way

1:22:01SlamJar:what if you've got clips on them like clockwork orange can they be forced open

1:22:07Slamwise Gandhi:or would that cause damage to your eyes I think it'd probably

1:22:10SlamJar:rupture your eyeball

1:22:10Stevie:yeah maybe it would nice chat innit this makes you feel sick with my hands on my face I'm like keeping my eyeballs in so what are we saying about this myth I'm picturing someone doing this and then tickling my nose I'm like no no no and then bang yeah

1:22:25SlamJar:yeah like a grenade Danny Aarons comes they're fine 2020 vision

1:22:32Slamwise Gandhi:what are we saying? if you sneeze with your eyes open your eyes will pop out of your head are we saying that's

1:22:38SlamJar:I'm saying no but I'm saying you will get a headache

1:22:40Slamwise Gandhi:yeah something bad will happen but I don't think they'll come out that your eyes can come out they can't come out well sneezing is the fastest physical reaction of the human body with the spray reaching up to 120 miles per hour

1:22:52SlamJar:that's gross so if I sneeze now my sneeze would get in before me if I got in the car if it could reach 120 miles an hour might get a ticket though what

1:23:05Stevie:he's done a joke you said be funny you said be funny and he's done a joke and you've just gone not all jokes are funny

1:23:13Slamwise Gandhi:no the issue is you say a joke that uses logic what the fuck are you doing you say a joke with logic and he's thick he didn't get it

1:23:19Stevie:I mean it wasn't a good joke I also didn't really laugh I smiled you just had a go at me for not laughing no I went how would you guys test this one get a pig and make it sneeze with its eyes open

1:23:33SlamJar:uh how could you tell you physically couldn't test this one i guess could you without making someone lose their eyes or not or not that'd be the other idea get a pig honestly get a pig get its eyes open like that yeah get some cinnamon under the nose yeah smell that or dust like a dusty shell smell that oh it's come out fair enough would you not kill the pig or like no it'd be blind but it wouldn't be dead what would i do i reckon they're nuts enough to

1:24:05Stevie:just have the glue their eyes open and fucking do that no they're not because what if i i think that they here's what i think i think they know it's a myth but for the show they're going to create this weird jeopardy where one of them tapes their eyes out look how mental i am doing this for the show but they know nothing's gonna happen and then they make how would they know without testing it though because they just know they just they know the science yeah yeah no so

1:24:28Slamwise Gandhi:they use a slow motion camera to film themselves sneezing whilst trying to keep their eyes open they both they're using like pepper and stuff to try and make themselves sneeze and both they both try a few times sneezing every time they sneeze they're watching it in slow motion trying to keep their eyes open. They physically can't. Every single time they sneeze, eyes closed. Adam goes, we need to test it properly. So he holds his eyes open. Yeah, it'd be him. Like that. Yeah, the same guy who tried to drown himself in a previous episode. He's holding his eyes open, sneezes with them open.

1:25:01SlamJar:God, that's weird when you do that. What are your predictions?

1:25:03Slamwise Gandhi:Are you okay? No.

1:25:07Stevie:I think his eyes try and shut. I think his eyes shut. Why are you asking us our predictions?

1:25:12SlamJar:because I swear if his eyeballs came out, I'd have seen that. You're right, nothing happened.

1:25:18Stevie:Nothing happened. That would have been on the news. Because we've never seen someone's eyes. This is 14 years ago. No. Yeah, exactly.

1:25:23SlamJar:14 years to hear about it.

1:25:25Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah. He does manage to keep his eyes open. You can tell they want to shut, but with his fingers there, they do stay open. And yeah, absolutely nothing happens. So that theory is...

1:25:36SlamJar:Wait, why is the human natural reaction to close your eyes when you sneeze? Is it because you've got alien particles in your nose which your body's trying to, foreign objects in your nose that your body's trying to get out. So they're thinking, well, we don't need them in the eyes. So let's spray it. Let's take it back to,

1:26:00Stevie:why do we have eyelashes? To stop alien particles in your eyes. So it's that, isn't it? What you just said. Yeah. I said it again.

1:26:09Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah.

1:26:09Stevie:Made it seem like I thought of it.

1:26:11Slamwise Gandhi:Yep. So basically, this one, they actually speak to an ophthalmologist who says, that's not going to happen, is it? Because your eyes held in place. Why didn't they call you?

1:26:20SlamJar:You could have told them, couldn't you?

1:26:21Slamwise Gandhi:Could have.

1:26:22Stevie:Did you know that from your training? Yeah.

1:26:24SlamJar:Well, they told you that, day one. They don't tell you that, but... You are going to sneeze. You can't keep your eyes open.

1:26:29Slamwise Gandhi:Your eyes quite stuck.

1:26:30SlamJar:Yeah.

1:26:31Slamwise Gandhi:There's like, what, six muscles holding it. You've got the optic nerve as well. I don't even like thinking about that. There's a lot going on.

1:26:36SlamJar:Yeah, yeah. Let's move on from eyes now. Fiona has a phobia of him as well My eyes are aching right now

1:26:41Stevie:I cut an eye open once

1:26:43SlamJar:A horrible little prick Why would you say that?

1:26:47Slamwise Gandhi:Pig eye Scalpel Popped Move on! Theory! Slammed! Theory slammed, you were both right Sixth right we got so far Final one, which is the sixth one

1:27:05Stevie:keeping it in the score that it's 4-3 to you, so you can do that. No, no, I'm joining us up.

1:27:11Slamwise Gandhi:Which makes no sense. Final one. No, it's more that he's done 4-3 and then he's gone 6 and we've only done 5. Don't worry about the maths. There's a lot going on there.

1:27:21Stevie:Are you talking about the maths, Sue?

1:27:22SlamJar:This is a good one to end with. Dictionary Corner doesn't make sense because we're doing numbers and I've said...

1:27:30Slamwise Gandhi:This one's called Bullet Fired vs. Bullet Dropped. The theory goes if a bullet is fired straight forward from a gun and a second bullet is dropped from the exact same height at the exact same time, those two bullets will hit the ground at the exact same time. We've done this on the last one, didn't we? No.

1:27:50Stevie:I swear we've done this. No. I swear we've done this.

1:27:54SlamJar:Have we done this? No.

1:27:56Stevie:We've done something so much like this.

1:27:58SlamJar:We've done, can you bend a bullet? And we did a P dropped off a knife and filled out.

1:28:02Stevie:Maybe I'm thinking of them two, Mick. Yeah, this is what this is.

1:28:05Slamwise Gandhi:And the coins dropped off the... Yeah. There's a few things we've done. But this is saying, if I shot a bullet forwards right now, no matter where that lands, if I drop this bullet at the same time, that bullet will hit the floor all the way over there at the exact same time that this bullet hits the floor.

1:28:22SlamJar:No. That's interesting though, isn't it? That's a good thought to think about. That's the theory. Yeah. It is. No, it is.

1:28:30Slamwise Gandhi:So if I go... Pow! Like that. This one you're just dropping. Oh. No bullet. Oh. No, it's a bullet, no gun. You're just dropping it, so that's just going down naturally.

1:28:40Stevie:No, the different forces. I can't believe that if there was one 100 miles away, that this would go... Yeah. Because it's not going to... But the bullet's going... Like that, isn't it? Yeah, but you're not going to shoot something 100 miles away, like... Yeah.

1:28:57SlamJar:I think if you shoot now, it probably hits the floor in about... Didn't we do how far a bullet can shoot or something? No. I think this is not only incorrect, but I don't know who the person theorised this. No one's ever said this, have they? Okay, what are you saying? I don't think it's true.

1:29:15Slamwise Gandhi:And even if they say it is true, I don't believe it. So the logic behind this one, this one has, they say in the episode they don't think it's ever properly been tested, but it's been in loads and loads of physics books and manuals because the logic behind it is a bullet as a thing has no lift on it. There's no reason that it could go higher up than the way it's aimed. So if it's aimed perfectly in a straight line and fired, no matter how fast forward it's going, the only thing pulling it down to the ground is gravity. The bullet I drop, the only thing pulling it down to the ground is gravity.

1:29:53Slamwise Gandhi:So according to physics, they've both got the exact same force pushing them down towards the ground, irrelevant of force moving in a different direction.

1:30:02SlamJar:All right.

1:30:03Slamwise Gandhi:So that's why the physics side of it.

1:30:05SlamJar:But if I volleyed a football straight,

1:30:08Slamwise Gandhi:bang,

1:30:09SlamJar:and then dropped a football, that football is going to be in the air longer than the football lap coming to the floor.

1:30:15Slamwise Gandhi:But are you volleying that football perfectly straight? Yeah, yes. Top bins wouldn't be perfectly straight. Can I just quickly check, if you're hitting it perfectly straight, how's it going top bins? Your foot isn't as high as top bins.

1:30:28SlamJar:I'm getting my foot up high, like Peter Crouch against Stoke. against City, I mean, but yeah. Forced stroke. Yeah, forced stroke.

1:30:36Slamwise Gandhi:Okay. So you're both saying it's not true.

1:30:39Stevie:I think I know another reason why it might not. Go on, go on, go on. You know in films when there's a sniper and they go, and then the person dies like a few seconds later. Yeah. If that person was also holding a bullet by their head, that would just go... What? Say like there's a, you know in films a sniper go, and then the person dies like ages later. If that person who shot it held a bullet by their head like this and went that would just go but that's taken ages yeah do you know what I'm saying?

1:31:12SlamJar:you mean the person shooting the bullet is also holding a bullet drops the bullet, you'd hear the bullet dropped, hit the floor straight away and then you would see the guy that they're shooting three miles away or whatever die a few seconds later.

1:31:25Slamwise Gandhi:Something to counter that though I will say the sniper isn't shooting in a perfectly straight line. They're aiming at the person. But if you're playing Call of Duty, for instance, if you're using a sniper in the distance, what do you need to do? Wind. Adjust. Adjust. You aim higher because that bullet's going to drop. What's making the bullet drop? Wind. Gravity. Which is what this theory's all about. So how would you guys test this?

1:31:52Stevie:Do it. Every one of these is just doing it. Does it matter how high you hold the bullet?

1:31:59Slamwise Gandhi:so if I was as long as the bullet and the gun the bullet dropped and the gun firing the bullet at the exact same height doesn't matter what if I fired a gun

1:32:08Stevie:laid on its side and then had the bullet right by the floor there's no way that's going to take point point one of a second I'm going to set up a contraption of a gun like that and then hold a bullet and you're going to go and it's going to travel for ages this is going to go yeah

1:32:28SlamJar:Yeah, he's done you. He's done you. And I've done it. Fuck off.

1:32:33Stevie:I've fucking done you, mate, haven't I?

1:32:35SlamJar:What have you got for us then?

1:32:36Slamwise Gandhi:On this one, they start with a really simple test. We just use a metal ball just to test like a slow version. Dropped from table height and one fired from a pinball mechanism. They fire them at different times and film it on slow-mo and they time to track how quickly each one falls. The mechanism is quite slow, so it does just go off the table and kind of flop forwards there is only 0.008 milliseconds between them so pretty much non-existent difference between the two that's less than one percent then to properly test the myth they go to a firing range with a gun attached to a table with a laser sight and they're basically testing to see how far away does a bullet actually hit the ground if shot perfectly straight from the distance there the height they're using so say so it's pretty much a table like the height of this table here so they're going how far can that actually go on a big firing range and they realize the bullet travels around 360 feet a what distance oh that's when it hits the floor around about 360 feet away yeah from where they fired the gun yeah so that's traveling all the way over there and then they're dropping the bullet here yeah they didn't want any outdoor variable so they go to this huge um 480 foot long building as a controlled environment so there's no wind or anything it's all inside they set up a bullet dropping dropping mechanism 360 feet away now that they know it they're trying to see if they can get the bullet fired and the bullet dropped to land in roughly the same place to really see how different they are they set up a mechanism that will drop that bullet at the exact same time the bullet is fired from the gun.

1:34:19Slamwise Gandhi:As they do it, what are your predictions?

1:34:21SlamJar:How does that work? How can they get something that fires the gun and drops the bullet at the same time?

1:34:26Slamwise Gandhi:They're linked. So they're not shooting the gun. They've got like a cable attached to it that pulls it so it'll pull both things at the same time.

1:34:32Stevie:Okay, right. Silly question. Why does it have to be at the same time? Why can't they just measure the time? They could. Of each one.

1:34:39Slamwise Gandhi:They could and they still do technically by doing this. They can see the differences but they like the idea of going, if it is true, how cool is it if the bullets hit the same place at the same time? Yeah, right. So they're doing it visually. Yeah, good TV. For theatre. So what are your predictions? Which ones hit in the floor first? Are they doing it at the same time?

1:34:59SlamJar:I have a feeling you're setting us up to say, how mad is this? It works at the same time. And I'm just not going to believe that. Yeah, I don't think it does, but you're going to tell us it does.

1:35:07Slamwise Gandhi:Using slow motion cameras, the bullets hit the floor with only 39 milliseconds separating them. And how far away is the gun? Near identical. 360 feet away. And the bullets hit the... Just looking at it without a camera, it looks like they're in the front.

1:35:24Stevie:I'm too dumb to understand it then.

1:35:26SlamJar:And when you see that footage, does one bullet go like that and the other bullet... This bullet's dropping.

1:35:32Slamwise Gandhi:The other one, they've got like a piece of paper on the floor to make sure they can notice the difference in the paper. And this one basically hits the floor at the same time that this one scratches across the paper and causes a rip in the paper. dot slash. Yeah.

1:35:47Stevie:What if they just kept extending the distance? They can't. How?

1:35:53SlamJar:That's how far the gun can physically. The only way they'd be able to extend the distance

1:35:57Slamwise Gandhi:is if they made the table higher. Yeah.

1:36:02SlamJar:So theory confirmed.

1:36:06Slamwise Gandhi:That is the maddest thing. That's the maddest thing. I can't believe that.

1:36:10Stevie:That isn't working up here.

1:36:12Slamwise Gandhi:I get it. Because they do have the same force going down. But just thinking about a bullet being fired at the speed it's going, it was so hard to comprehend that that's possible. Yeah. But watching it was like, oh, fucking hell.

1:36:26SlamJar:It must be going so fast. So if you were 360 feet away and Alfie was laid on the floor like that, and you both went, Jack, can I have... You said at the same time, Jack, can I have my bullets back? Yeah. I'd go like that. Shoot and drop at the same time. Like that. Alfie would go, thank you. on the floor you go thank you catch yeah i wouldn't catch it no i do well if you're good is a theory if you're 300 if you're the physically the furthest away a bullet can be yeah so where it hits the floor at my feet yeah so you shoot a gun a million times and you you find out what where the furthest but would the bullet always land exactly the same place as long as your

1:37:04Slamwise Gandhi:accuracy is good enough it'll land close enough to the same place they do it a few times and it's

1:37:08SlamJar:fairly consistent so they're using laser sight so what's the distance so so if i shot you now but this gun could only shoot, say, 180 centimetres or something. Would it, and it finished here, would it hurt you still or not if you were at the end?

1:37:23Stevie:Yeah, like when does the force just stop?

1:37:25Slamwise Gandhi:No, because it still hits the floor and flies forwards. It's got the momentum from behind still pushing it forwards.

1:37:33SlamJar:What about if you were right at the end, though, so the bullet lands right at your feet? If it touched your toe, would it hurt your toe?

1:37:38Slamwise Gandhi:Yeah, it would, because in this, it hits the floor, bounces off and smashes a mirror behind it. Does it? Yeah, because they put that there. Seven years bad luck. Yeah, bad. Wow. So it's still got that That's amazing, Stevie. That was sick.

1:37:51SlamJar:That was good fun. Yeah. Thank you.

1:37:52Slamwise Gandhi:That was great. They did actually do another one which I didn't do the I haven't watched it properly yet but they do one based on snipers and the theory is is it ever possible to dodge a bullet? No matter what.

1:38:04SlamJar:Can you save that one for next time? Potentially, yeah. Don't tell us now. Don't spoil it. Please don't. Don't spoil it. There we go. So that is the Theory Slammers with six of your finest theories from Stephen White over there. What did we have? We had bullets falling at the same time. We had can you open a car door underwater. We had can you sneeze with your eyes open. We had will Mentos and Coca-Cola explode in the belly. And we had two more, which I have completely...

1:38:31Slamwise Gandhi:Seven paper fold. Seven paper fold and... And the final one was the first one we did. Which was, clearly... The Hollywood hand grenade heroes. Grenade. Yeah.

1:38:41SlamJar:There we go. That's Mythbusters or Theory Slammers episode three with me, Jackmates, Stevie White and Alfie Indra. We'll see you in the next one. Grenade. I should have done that. I wanted you to die.

1:38:59SlamJar:Jackmates happy hour.

SlamJar and Slamwise Gandhi are making a triumphant return to bust more myths! Inspired by TV show ‘Mythbusters’, Stevie has brought a new selection of theories for the Theory Slammers.

Do your eyes pop out if you sneeze with your eyes open? Would your stomach explode from downing Coke and Mentos? Can you smother a grenade blast by laying on it? Is it possible to fold a piece of paper more than 7 times?

All these myths have actually been tested on Mythbusters, so the boys can debate whether it’s possible and theorise which chaotic experiments were used to test it, and Stevie can reveal the truth!
