In short
Bonus episode where Jack and Stevie explain their JackandStevie.com project and the “Gold Envelopes” series, including how it works, why they started it, what it costs, community feedback, monthly member giveaways, and how Happy Hour episodes are also organized on the site.
Guests
No external guests. The hosts are Jack and Stevie (Happy Hour co-hosts). They also mention collaborators: Josh (poster designer), Bryce Tattoos (tattoo giveaway), and “Jack Smith” (help with filming/editing), plus referenced Happy Hour guests (e.g., Robbie, Alfie, Nathan, Dara Ennis, Dominic Milton Trott, etc.) only as examples.
Key claims
The site runs monthly Gold Envelopes videos (4–5 months in), funded by memberships (stated as £6/month) with at least two videos per month minimum. Members help enable expensive trips (e.g., San Francisco, a ~800-mile drive). They say Happy Hour stays free on Spotify; jackandstevie.com is separate and doesn’t replace the Monday/Thursday guest schedule.
Notable examples
San Francisco “ghost” trip; Norwich pub crawl; tattoo episode; Berlin best kebab; “Wank Mountain” road trip through multiple countries; giveaways like Stow Lake posters, a free tattoo (~£400 value), Happy Hour Mike Muffs, and “I Love Wank” merch. They also describe the “Happy Hour Podcast” archive categories on the site.

1:10Jack Mates Happy Hour. Hello guys and welcome back to Jack Mates Happy Hour podcast. This is bloody... What the fuck? We don't normally do this on a Saturday. Saturday, Saturday. Going to the ballpark on Saturday. No, I was singing the song from Captain Underpants movie I don't know what I was singing I was just trying to guess the lyrics Wrong As you will know, listeners It is no a Monday And it is no a Thursday And I know that because we've just said Saturday Yeah, this is a bonus episode of Happy Hour Basically, we're going to be completely honest with you We wanted to chat about our Jack and Stevie stuff That we've been doing But we didn't want to take up a normal episode We don't want to annoy people Yes, we know that you like your routine and we like that you like our routine.
1:55So Mondays are the main, Thursdays are the guests. We didn't want to replace them with us just waffling on about what we've been doing. So this is a completely bonus episode just for those of you that are interested in hearing all about our project, jackandstevie.com. For those of you that aren't interested, it's the bloody weekend. Get out there and enjoy it and stop listening to this shit because this will be shit. It will actually be really interesting. We've done some good stuff. I'm going to make sure this is boring and shit. Okay, yeah, go enjoy your weekend. Even the people who are interested, go and enjoy your weekend.
2:25No, we just wanted to, we were thinking of doing this for a while, sitting down, me and you, and chatting about jackandstevie.com. It's a thing that we've been doing for the last four or five months. It is, yeah. So four months we're in. Yep. We've done four big golden envelopes, gold envelopes video. I always say golden. I know. Do you know why? Bad name. Do you know why I say golden envelopes? Because it's golden N. Yeah. And because on the app, on the website, there's no space in between them on the thing, you can see the word golden envelopes. Yeah, maybe we'll call it golden envelopes. So if you want to go and watch the golden envelopes things, head over to jackandstevie.com.
3:03Well, for those of you that don't know, jackandstevie.com, two A's in Jack. That's our project. We started up four months ago and gold envelopes is our main series on there. That was the idea that we had probably coming up to about a year ago now. And we wanted to do it. basically stevie and i wanted to start seeing the world traveling doing stuff um that we would never normally do and most importantly doing stuff that we say we're gonna do on the pod that we never do became a bit of a meme for a while that i would often say i wanted to do stuff and in my heart i did want to do stuff just never really had a reason to do it well that was the thing like when we'd say like oh we're gonna go and find this urban legend it's like yeah we could have potentially gone and done it but there was no real benefit to doing it and no budget to do it either like Spotify weren't going to give us extra money to go and do this just to talk about it on a podcast.
3:49Yeah. Everything costs so much more money than you'd expect. Obviously flying to San Francisco is an expensive one. The most recent gold envelopes video cost way more than we expected. And we just drove 800 miles and it was pushing towards one and a half grand. That was close to costing more than Stowe Lake. Yeah. Which you just wouldn't expect because there's obviously so many more things that go into it. And this kind of you lot, thanks to the people who have become members, the reason we're able to do these things, but also whilst creating content that you clearly want to see, because they're the things we say we want to do.
4:24Yeah. So the gold envelope series is fairly simple. Once a month, Stevie and I, we open a golden envelope. Inside that golden envelope originally were three different outcomes. You could get Jack's pick, Stevie's pick or both pick. and of course each of those envelopes would determine who gets to the side the the theme of the the episode really what we were about to do in that episode whether that be fly all the way to san francisco to try and see a ghost which we did in episode one episode two you blindfolded me and made me get a tattoo a horrific tattoo episode three you made me go to different pubs around norwich and just embarrass myself yeah that was called stevie's pub crawl that's one of my favorites we realised that July was Stevie's birth month so we themed it around that and then episode four we took the suggestion of a happy hour fan favourite in What Willie Cook he told us that the best kebab in the world was in Berlin in Germany so we flew out there and we tried it and then episode five the most recent episode we drove 800 miles to wank together a thousand miles really about 500 there, 500 back a lot of miles we drove a thousand miles through multiple countries.
5:40Actually, in the video, there's not that many because we go to, from here, right from the studio, we then go to Dover. Go to, no. Not Dover. Go on. Free, Falkstone. Yeah. We go to Falkstone. And then from Falkstone, we go to Calais, which is obviously France. That's the second country, UK, France. And then we just go to Germany. Straight into Germany. But we stop in a few places along the way. We go to Metz. nice little luncheon Reims we just stay in a hotel where things do not go well for me well for any of us but I ended up in a worse situation that was funny I like that Munich as well is up there yeah we stayed in Munich for the night and then we went to Wank together a mountain called Wank Stevie found a tweet about a year ago in January that said this is the best place in the world or something like that just called Wank Mountain and I thought that is so happy hour and we were fortunate enough to get both picks envelope thanks to What Will He Cook?
6:39And I was just like, this is what we need to do. Yeah. So we've been to quite a few places so far and we're absolutely loving it. On the way back from Wank, by the way, that's what I was going to say. We actually went through way more countries. We went through, we left Germany, ended up in Austria first. Yeah, beautiful. Then we went through Luxembourg. Yeah. Then we went through Lichtenstein. Was that not Luxembourg? That might have been Luxembourg. Belgium. Yeah, Belgium. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't think I've been to Lichensite. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and then maybe even a little bit of... Where's Dunkirk?
7:14That's in France. We did. We charged the Tesla up in Dunkirk. Yeah. But yeah, none of that's on camera because we'd already been to Wang. That was the way back. But yeah, we're loving it. And we've got quite a community going over on jackandstevie.com. It's the nicest place I've ever been. It really is, guys. I'm going to be honest. obviously um the reddit got a little bit toxic um over the last few months uh one of our mods had to leave uh because someone was was threatening them um i do know that it's not all of you in fact it's actually quite a vocal minority there's probably probably 10 pricks over there but the rest of you are sound it's hard not and i don't mean to but it's hard not to just talk about the reddit in negative terms and sort of group you all together but i'm very familiar and i can pick names out of people who i know are legends over there so i don't always mean to just group you in with the melts but there are a lot of fucking melts over there i've had to bite my tongue a few times and go oh there's people putting criticism but the truth is they were just being fucking rude cunts yeah and the weird thing about the community on jack and stevie is that these people i feel like have so much right to complain and mug us off or whatever because they've they're putting their money into it and hoping we give them content that's worth that money yeah and they're still just absolutely lovely yeah they are they are i think that's another reason as well though because it's not just a faceless account um on a free website yeah it's people who can we reply to pretty much everyone on there so it's like we're getting to know the names on there and the people that are on there so they have that personal connection with us and also they're they're you you're literally you're paying to watch the content and and support us so you're not necessarily going to be the cunts because it's not just like you're shouting in a in an open space you're in this closed little club which we do which we like and as jack's mentioned about paying for the content there i remember the first time we ever spoke about jack and stevie on happy hour we mentioned it was six pound a month and said it was going to be a guaranteed one video a month and then bonus videos as well when we first recorded that we weren't 100 sure so we kind of put that in but it has been two videos a month minimum yeah we're now hopefully moving on to three videos a month as well with potential things coming up yeah we're never ever going to promise more than the original that we state because we obviously we want to over deliver but we also um there might be months where we do just do that one gold envelopes video uh but what we've been doing as well is uh doing a giveaway every month we stuck to that as well yeah so i've written them down because the giveaways have been very good as well so we started started with a nice little poster giveaway oh yeah we we made but we made bespoke posters of the white lady of stow lake they were incredible they were designed by poster boy josh poster boy so they were they were great and what i really liked about them uh we did how many did we do 100 was it something like that 50 50 posters we did full color posters but josh also made like a gold variant of one like an orangey gold variant and we only had five of them because i like doing my football card stuff and you can get the rare football cards that the same card but different color like a gold version so we had five gold posters that we hid in just random other orders yeah um because i like that sort of rare exclusivity and we're going to do a lot more of those posters going as we progress.
10:29Yeah, people seem to really like it. So we did posters for the first video. So each gold envelopes video will tend to have a giveaway with it unless there's not something like the kebab video when we went to Blintweet a kebab. There wasn't really anything we could do. If we could, we would have given you a kebab. But it would be rank and disgusting by the time you got it. So second video was the tattoo video. Yeah. This is easily the maddest giveaway we were able to give. Thanks to Bryce. Bryce Tattoos on Instagram is the guy who ruined my thigh with my live love lad baby tattoo but he's also the guy that done your good tattoos also done a lovely tattoo on me very very talented tattoo artist he'd basically agreed that he is happy to give one of our members their very own tattoo a nice tattoo as well so i believe um sometime in the next month the winner has been told they've planned a date and they're going to get a tattoo completely for free thanks to bryce which is the maddest giveaway we could potentially ever do that that value in his time in his work he would normally charge like 400 quid for that it's gonna be free 400 pound something mad like that and because of him we were able to give that away um we had a lot of people sign up to the website because it's six quid just to get try and get that try and win that so we might be able to do giveaways obviously that's not a giveaway we can do often because the giveaways after that um were the t-shirts we wore on my pub crawl.
11:50Yeah. We also have given away one of the original Mike Muffs from Happy Hour, which was a nice little giveaway to a big Happy Hour fan. Only four of them in the world. I gave one away before to a viewer. Stevie has one and I have one. And that was the last one. And then the final giveaway, the most recent giveaway, was, of course, the I Love Wank t-shirts and wank socks. Yeah, because up the mountain, they capitalise on idiots like us going. not that they have many tourists go but when they do i got the vibe that they don't sell much of that either because she was a bit surprised when we asked to buy it yeah we bought too much of it i think we bought a couple of t-shirts three pairs of wank socks yeah so good that's still funny but this is what we like to do when we go on these trips we're actively looking for things that are synonymous with that video and that place that we can buy to give away so people can have a bit of like the memorabilia i just want to talk about the pub crawl t-shirts as well because you did just say that they were t-shirts that we wore on your pub crawl, which makes it seem like just like a top from ASOS.
12:49Have I? I got them made up, and I had like a retro style Thomas Suchek one that said, love Suchek. The joke was because then you thought you were going to get a nice football player that you might like, and it was a picture of you fat on the What's Good podcast, and it said, love thy neighbour. Yeah, that's pretty brutal. Really kind of you, but someone now owns that t-shirt out there. Have you ever seen a picture of them with it? No, not yet. I know they've received it though, but he said one of them replied saying they're going to Disneyland and they're going to wear it there. and I hope he got the love thy neighbour one I can't remember but yeah so that's the giveaways we've done so far as well so that's going to be a consistent thing on Jack and Stevie every single month there'll always be a giveaway of some sort and hopefully a giveaway that you think is decent yes yeah we have had uh lots of questions as well which we're going to answer today before we go into the questions I do just want to mention one other thing and this is for happy hour listeners that may not necessarily be interested in um becoming a member of Jack and Stevie but happy hour listeners who basically on jackandstevie.com there is a section on the site that you don't need to be a member for and it's just called happy hour podcast oh this is amazing this and what we've done is uploaded every single episode of happy hour into its own bespoke category so i'll quickly list off the categories now so all you do click on jackandstevie.com i've not got my internet on but i will just say spotify is of course the only place you can listen and watch the episodes but this is like a back catalogue where you can easily find whatever episode you want and also this is a brilliant way this is probably the best thing about stevie doing these pages this is a brilliant way to discover new happy hour episode older episodes but ones that you haven't seen before that you might not have known because obviously you might have joined the happy hour sort of journey at any point say episode 200 well we've got 600 now so say you really like the ben foster episode you can go on for example sports stars yeah and and we'll take that as an example in a minute and read you the sports stars but before that tell us the categories so you go on there happy hour podcast has its own page of course it says watch exclusively on spotify you literally click on each one it will take you directly to the exact episode that you're looking at but we've got browse all episodes and then these are broken into categories first main shows yep all caught up so every single all caught up episode all in one place classics which we kind of define as classics but you're probably gonna have your early urban legends episodes in there some recent episodes that people like actually a really recent episode with the drilling going on i'll shove that in classics because the comments on reddit made me think it was the best thing we've ever done yeah that was good that was the one me you and alfie discussing is it weird too is it weird too confessions episodes all in one place dream episodes every single dream style episode we've ever done all in one place four skins episodes you can find every single episode us four were all on how cool is that like you can't do that no spotify doesn't have the breaking down of categories as we said once you click on so if you do click on four skins you can then basically go through and see every four skins episode and there's a little link that says watch or listen and it will open spotify amazing so this is one of the best things i think i've done on the site yeah i actually nothing to do with jack and stevie I think because people are signing up, they're obviously going for the new content, the video content.
15:59But you should use this feature as well because you are going to discover some lost gems in the Happy Hour archives. I'll reel through these quicker. So Foreskins, quizzes, all quiz episodes, special episodes, such as Halloween special Christmas specials. Like themed seasonal ones. Yep. And then all spooky episodes, your urban legends, your creepy libraries, anything in there. Then we go on to guest episodes. We've broken all of the guests we've ever had down into their categories. And do you remember when we were sat in Starbucks trying to do this before the website launched? It's hard to figure it out.
16:26We were trying to work out all the different categories because some people fall into more than one category. Yeah. You might have somebody who's like a footballer, but also like... Ben Foster. Yeah, Ben Foster is a content creator, but also a footballer. So we had to go through all 600 episodes of Happy Hour and manually write what we think, which category they fall into. And then every single episode had to be put up one at a time. and the ones that fall into multiple categories have been put into multiple categories as well. So probably ended up uploading closer to 800 rather than 600. Guest episodes are celebrities.
17:00That's going to be your bigger celebrities that would more be defined as just like a celebrity rather than - Like a Alex Zane? Yeah, or even if they're like, say like a Mo Farah would be in there, but he'd also be in Sports Stars, for instance. Dara Ennis would be in there. What, in Celebrities? because we don't have TV personalities. We don't get too many of them. He'd be in celebrities. Comedians, that's full of loads. So many comedians we've had. Experts, they're quite cool episodes. Give us an example of who are in the experts. So in experts, you've got ClickWrite, of course, most recent expert we've had on.
17:34He goes to the reselling stuff. DMT, Dominic Milton Trott, the drug expert. William Hansen, etiquette expert. Tom, the taxi driver, taxi expert. Dara Ennis, expert of a whole lot of quiz stuff. Dean Stott, SAS. Phil Heath Mr Olympia so loads in there Industry Insiders yeah so that's people like Stuart Jones YouTube Management Liam Shivers stuff like that Internet Stars yeah writes itself all your YouTubers and whatnot Life Stories episodes that's the one that everyone's probably one of the better categories that people will absolutely love let's go for a few of them so some of the recent Life Stories they're our favourite episodes to record so Dominic Milton Trott also falls into that category yeah Luke Tarrant yeah guy who lost his leg when he was travelling around Columbia King of Chemo.
18:19Yeah. Dean Stott again, SAS. Hardest Geezer. Yeah. Michael Francis. Yeah, Mafia boss. Rory McSorley. Yeah, legend of the game. Vanessa Frake Harris, the governor. Yeah. It's, and then Blind Tobes, Raphael Rowe. So they're the ones that people really love. Your Peter Blacksley's and stuff will be in there as well. Yeah. Then you've got musicians and then you've got sports stars. There we go. There we go. And every single episode has been uploaded with its poster from Josh as well. Amazing. And then you've got the most recent two episodes are always just on there as well. And as I said, it all links back to Spotify.
18:52But if you really want to, if you've missed any of the Dream episodes or you go, I really love Dream theme parks, what other Dream episodes have they gone? You can see every single one of them. Yeah, those episodes as well, like the Dream episodes, the quiz episodes, stuff like that. They're pretty much what you call evergreen as well. So you could listen, because they're not all caught up. So we're not talking about like your birthday last month or whatever. You can go and check out any Dream episode at any point. and it should, excluding the 20-minute all caught up at the start, it should be listenable.
19:20Yeah. Yeah, which I love about it. Yeah, so yeah, it's a great way. And as I said, that is not a paid element of it. You'll go on to jackandstevie.com. Yes, the first page will say become a member, but you'll be able to see if you're on a PC at the top, it'll say happy hour podcast. If you're on a phone in the little drop-down menu, it'll say happy hour podcast. You can go there without being a member. Yeah, that's the best thing about it. I actually forgot to mention that, so I'm glad you did. You do not have to be a member. Would you like to do some questions? Yeah, so these are questions from people over on Jack and Stevie.
19:46They submitted this on jackandstevey.com. Again, this is why we're doing this as a bonus Happy Hour episode, because one thing we never want to do as well is the people who listen to Happy Hour obviously help build this show and give us this incredible life. So we know that you might not, one, care about what we're doing in terms of these travel videos or have the funds to do it. So one thing we don't want to do is exclude you from being able to enjoy Happy Hour. that's why this is a completely bonus episode as well yeah and that's also why when we have spoken about it on all quite up we have tried to do it in a way that wouldn't segregate the audiences so when we spoke about the tattoos with robbie we showed them on here we weren't trying to go if you want to see it head over there and give us money yeah we're never going to try and we're not going to kind of uh make any happy hour listeners feel like they're not a part of it yeah just because they can't afford it or don't want to pay it or whatever uh they're two separate things and happy hour is still our baby and our main thing and because you're not involved in jack and stevie doesn't mean happy hour is going to be a less experience for you and hopefully they've noticed that over like we've been doing this for four months already that it hasn't affected happy hour in the slightest no of course not um ironically this one episode is obviously because it's about jack and stevie we are just taking questions from jack and stevie every other q a we've ever done we've opened it up to everyone yeah and any future happy hour q a's will be absolutely everyone but this is a bonus episode specifically on a saturday as we've said rather than a normal monday episode yep so ben linton asks how much prep actually went into starting this whole thing up well as you mentioned at the start there i knew about the wank mountain which is one we've only just done back in january yeah so we probably had this idea in like november time yeah i'd say maybe no no sooner well i know it was it was um i'd say it was closer to august last year almost a year ago we had this idea i think we're pushing on a year of wanting to have done this so we we did maybe seven to eight months of i don't know if you call it prep but there was a lot we had to get in order to make sure it was feasible doable and um we didn't want to start it without knowing it was going to be good yeah so we made sure we did all the back end of the website as well like you doing the episodes planning the series we also wanted the first two episodes of gold envelopes to be filmed so we we we needed to kind of work out the format in our head and i needed to work out the editing structure and how that was going to look so a lot of prep we probably had the idea a year ago ben and we've been running with it for four months uh from uh ben linton to big ben uh where do you see or hope this website is in a year's time love the content guys This episode is brought to you by PayPal.

So obviously if we suddenly got 5 ,000 members, then it's not like we're just going to have excess money because of that. That's where both of us would be going, okay maybe now we can bring in a cameraman to do that maybe down like that that money is stuff we want to put back into it as we said the wank video cost a lot san francisco you paid for all of san francisco before we even had this as a page so you were working at a net loss for however long so depending on how many people start enjoying this content and want to be here consistently we could end up doing some absolutely mad video yeah i would say that the members that we have at the moment are like more than we expected so we're super grateful for that uh it's not life changing but it's like a lovely a lovely community and a good number if we're purely boiling you down to numbers at the moment uh that we have enough money to within reason do whatever we want so what i mean by that is uh we're not actually going to do this this year and i'll explain why in a minute but like rougarou fest that's something that people keep telling us to do is it in idaho i think yeah it's somewhere like that but yeah new orleans or somewhere i've looked into it and logistics is a difficult one to sort right but what what i mean by that is um the we have enough members that we could probably warrant two flights over their hotels and we could do it um the reason we won't do it is one it just doesn't really look that good it might be a funny video if it's bleak but from what i've seen maybe in future years it will get better or maybe we can find something else urban urban legend related it doesn't look that good uh but where i was going is so we could go and we could do that video like stevie said it would be amazing if there was more members because we could literally if the sky was if if money was no object we could get a whole production team to come and film it for us you're still going to get the essence of mine and stevie's personalities in the videos but at the moment um we're having to film everything ourselves and yeah or rope jack smithing yeah or jack smith yeah who's obviously um a legend and doing it for a super cheap uh but we would love to have production teams we would love to sort of do those bigger ideas as well a bit like the sidemen do where it's like maybe i go on like a five thousand pound holiday and you go on a 50 pound holiday yeah it's just for the time being obviously we'll see where things go we are only four months in so it's very much in its infancy but for the time being everything is very much vlog style yeah but maybe maybe one day even if we just have a really good month you might be able to see this like really cool well shot video but i think what we've done so far does look really nice and i'd love for people to be able to at least see the stow lake video which is our first one just it's so synonymous of happy hour and i'm really happy we put a lot of effort into that we sort of scripted it like filmed it all in the space of like 24 hours and then i spent ages editing that together um what i think we could do unless we get real big blowback from this but because we want as many people to see that do you reckon we could just and we'd never ever do this with another episode but we could upload that to the youtube because i know people have paid for it but what i'm saying is that's like the entry-level video right so everyone who wanted to see that has seen it now it's done if we put that on youtube that might get more people over here we can up the production if it went mad and we like doubled our members or tripled our members we could even we like there's nothing stopping us from doing two of those videos a month yeah would have an editor would have yeah that's the thing because obviously at the moment as well jack's doing the nearly all of the editing i've only just now started doing a bit of the editing so the more people come in obviously the more we can then put that out and gives us more time to be able to put more into the videos themselves rather than because the editing ultimately takes longer than the filming yeah oh massively massively so yeah hopefully we'll see but yeah if if people like the idea of wanting to at least see the stow lake video and maybe have a bit of a teaser to go is this something I'm interested in maybe we could put it out near Halloween that would make sense.
28:00That would be good, even post it on Halloween or something, yeah, that would be good I just hope that the current members of Jack and Stevie who we couldn't have done that video without, appreciate that we will never ever do that again with any content, it's not like in two months time we're then going to upload the tattoo video, we'll just upload that one video so people can capture, so you can get an idea of the series and why they should come over, but we really appreciate those of you that have been with us from the start who just took a gamble on us and didn't need to see anything to buy into it sort of thing um this one uh is from sam one and it says was jns originally planned to be a foreskins production with alfie and robbie being hosts no no now but what i will say is when we were on tour there was discussions that we were going to do a patreon together so that would have been like a happy hour patreon happy hour patreon now there are spotify give us free will to do whatever we want yeah yeah i will say that um just because we're signed to spotify it doesn't mean if they do something that we can't like i'd be i'd be allowed to talk negatively about their decisions on things right i'm not gonna sit here and bite my tongue sometimes i think there's too many ads on on there yeah but that's that's the world we live in right that's what essentially without them ads they're not going to be able to be able to change at the moment yeah there's a lot of changes and stuff i've i love i absolutely adore spotify and i adore being signed to them they have they've kept true to their word that they said when they first signed our show they have never ever asked us to remove anything we've said they've never asked to listen to an episode before it goes up they've never changed the theme they've never done that um they i have like weekly meetings with them and stuff and they say we're gonna we'd love for you to advertise these brands if i if i ever say no to a brand they accept it they might have gone out and their ads team might have sold an ad to the brand and then i've just gone no last minute could really fuck them off but they've never had a problem so spotify has sound one thing i didn't want to do because spotify they don't own the ip of happy hour but we're obviously signed to them um i didn't want to annoy spotify by putting happy hour related content on a different paid website yeah that's not what we wanted to do um that would probably be super lucrative for us if we did but even outside of spotify it would have potentially also as we said we don't want jack and stevie to segregate happy hour listeners having a happy hour patreon would have potentially segregated happy hours because there would have been extra episodes and stuff which is pure happy hour stuff yeah and that would have been a real issue potentially and i think i saw on the reddit when people said oh would you pay for a patreon people going oh i don't think it would be fair to separate which obviously every other podcast does it and we just never have no but i think by doing the way we've done it you can have the best of both worlds you can choose what you want yeah you don't no one's forcing you to do anything and you can get on with life and enjoy happy hour just as much as jack said at the start of this one this is jack and stevie heavy it's the whole episode you just don't have to listen to it and you'll still get your normal episode yeah nothing's going to change i will like genuinely if anyone is annoyed at that i will be confused and a bit angry because it's like this is a this is an extra bit yeah it doesn't make sense but um what yeah happy hour will uh remain on on spotify and obviously you can use spotify um without buying premiums yeah happy hour will always be free uh i know that we get a lot of listeners a lot of messages from lovely listeners who say we help them get through their monday shift their thursday shift and have helped them in other elements of their life just when they need like a safe space or an escape uh so to put that behind a paywall we'd feel wrong about it even if it would be super lucrative um who knows who knows in a year's time in two years time if we ever did a happy hour spin-off or we did like a bonus show that might be a different story i don't want people to pull this back up in two years time and go you said this you said that the monday and the thursday of happy hour for as long as possible as long as we have the power over it will always always be free right and as long as we have a contract with spotify because if we if we were to lose Spotify one day, then we still have to keep everything going.
32:12That would be a worry. With money. That would be a worry. Yeah. If we did lose Spotify, our YouTube channel is pretty much dead now because we moved the visuals over to Spotify. That if we lost Spotify, we would then have to reconsider how we play it. But we'll be completely open and honest about it. Oh yeah. 100%. Yeah. Whatever our motives are, our incentives, we will tell you guys about it and we will happily hear the feedback as well. um but the original question was um was it ever meant to be without alfie and robbie yes um we thought about it at one time um uh we can't use happy hour on a different website behind a paywall as we discussed so uh that kind of makes the four of us the four of us together we are pretty much happy hour so that was tough and um also we've touched on this a few times now but the schedules do not work it's so difficult at the moment as you've probably seen like the fact that four skins are only however long sometimes it's alfie sometimes it's robbie they've both got so much going on luckily i don't uh well now i do because of jack and stevie but it is hard to get all of us at the same time but that doesn't mean they won't make appearances on jack and stevie at some point it just wouldn't be in any form of podcast capacity yeah it might be if we go to liverpool for a new pub crawl video robbie comes with us or whatever uh if we went to october fest Bobby's the perfect person to rope into something exactly it's just when it makes sense but Nathan says would you be willing to do a British urban legends tour video sorry Jack I know how tedious they are for you uh but think about the service stations you could write along the way and how many crisp packets you could lit a Stevie's car with he'd go full Karen Nathan love your question mate well worded um I think we could do that I equally think we could go bigger and better and go to the like on a US tour of urban legends I think as things stand we could do a British one quite easily like the same way we just drove to wank mountain like we could get in your car we could take jack smith with us or whatever and go around britain and do a few of them vlog style but if if if the members were to go that way we could easily end up doing an american tour and do the bigger potentially better ones yeah the size of america you know the urban legends are going to be better overall but there's there's i think in my head at the moment because we've only done stow lake what four months ago five months ago you need you need a good gap between them we've got halloween coming up so we need to come up with a big halloween idea that i don't think should be urban legends based but there's definitely there's definitely something in doing content like that yeah i think if we had the the funds based on the members we could um easily fly to america and do six urban legends in the space of two weeks and have a whole the only thing is i do not have enough time to edit that so i we could easily um go do six different states six different episodes and have a production team film and edit them and we could pop them out over the course of six weeks or something do you know i mean so it again equates to members equals more members equals better content um but i would definitely do a uk urban legends episode uh nathan um then we're going on to uh one of our favorite viewers brooke nielsen she says what do you see as the future of jack and stevie being do you have an aspiration for the channel we've kind of kind of answered this uh i love the content on here it feels like a great natural add-on to the pod especially uh because the relationship you guys have feels relaxed and laid back looking forward to the next gold envelopes so what would you do with unlimited money what what what would be what what's one idea that you think is unfeasible today that might be feasible in a year's time my first thing would have been to tour america for urban legends because that's like my big thing i guess so there's so there are a few like i'd love to go to bunny man bridge just because obviously we've done stow lake and you bought the fucking bunny costume for me to wear thinking it was that but there's there's quite a few in america that i think are so synonymous of happy hour um and it would be in what i'd like to be able to do as well is obviously stow lake was on a whim in the sense of we just went there and hoped stuff would happen but i'd love to be able to with a bit more of a team and it's not just us doing it it would be lovely to be able to have like someone who could maybe reach out to people in the area might be able to meet an expert out there who can do this with us like and being able to bring in like characters into these videos could be so interesting because one of the funniest parts of stow lake is the random characters you were talking to in the park yeah but imagine we had actual experts who could give us more information rather than just what we can find on google that's it 100 i'd love to do an idea i don't know how feasible it is but i'd love to like do like a john nellis style video with you where i blindfold you put some headphones on you get you on a plane drop you off with you but somewhere in europe or in the world and you have to try and make your way back home but you can't use your phone that'd be lovely i hate every second of that that'd be great content for you and that's why we're gonna do it um g rudders 98 says what moment in your career so far has been the most exciting or mind-blowing this can be together or separately career it's not a career is it yeah well not for you anyway no when i was testing the eyes back in the day um i actually fell asleep talking to a patient once that was that was pretty exciting that was bad going on what what what what what were you doing then so if i'm the woman so we were across the table like this and i just assumed it was a woman it was oh right oh no because you said she was going oh right i thought fucking boring gotta be a woman innit um i was so we were across the table like closer like this and um i'd been with her maybe about an hour 40 minutes yeah like she was i've done all these other like little tests with her done a pressure test all that and then she was just looking at glasses and frames for ages and it was i was doing a 9 a.m till 8 p.m shift and she'd been there since five and we're pushing on 7 p.m i was like getting close to the end of the day and she was just talking to me and she just kept like she was like looking at two pairs going don't know if i want this one or this one, but it was just like anything I told her wouldn't help.
38:25Right. And I was just like leaning like this and she'd just keep going. I started just going, and like, you know, you, when you bring yourself back in, but I was too tired to bring myself back in and sit up. I just go and just let myself keep drifting. I was like, but she didn't say anything. So I don't know if she fully noticed, but I was, I, for a second, I was like, I don't know what she's been saying. I don't know how long I've been like that. Have you ever been like that with a happy hour guest? Um, have i ever no i've zoned out a few times that happens every now and but i think like i sometimes when people say stuff my brain starts thinking about that specific thing right i don't know if you get that like they'll say they mentioned like fish and chips fish and chips i'll start going oh like the chip shop near mine is quite nice because one further down the road that i love the bad burgers they do and what you don't realize is the guest has said yeah i had fish and chips on the night that my mum died in a house fire and you're thinking about the battered cod and then they go so since that day I've never seen my mum again and now I have a lot of trauma and I have to go to therapy and then it cuts back to you and you go, do you have vinegar on your fishing kit?
39:29Luckily that's never happened, but it has happened. What was the question? Moment that stands out in our... Most exciting. What is the most exciting? Well, I think doing tour was an absolute whirlwind, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tour one was more of a whirlwind in the sense that we hadn't done it before. It was new, it was fresh. Going out at the Birmingham Alexander on the first night of tour one was terrifying but enthralling at the end and also getting to play Manchester Apollo I say play perform and Norwich playing Theatre Royal is insane. I don't know how I forgot that, playing Hometown show.
40:07Yeah you cried. I did cry You love a little cry don't you? I do love a little cry I'm very emotional bean I didn't cry the second time but the first time I was like wow that's special Cried when you saw the play Yes, yeah, yeah. We won't go into that. Sell 70 % of the tickets, you'll get this money. Sell 80%. We didn't get this money. That should be illegal. In regards to jackandstevie.com, are there any ideas that you would love to do but are too out of budget? We've already answered that one. We have. McGowan says, what was the reason for starting the website and what made you choose a platform outside of YouTube to host it on?
40:44I'll take this one real quick, McGowan. The YouTube channel's dead. But Sam's still really trying to breathe some life into it. Bless him. That's Instagram Sam who runs it. And he's doing a fine job. But the algorithm fucking hates us. We've been flagged a few times recently for the most fucking ridiculous things ever. I think in a vlog that I put up when Sonny and I went to Las Vegas, my cousin who played in the WSOP with me this year, went to Las Vegas. I was vlogging it. Put those vlogs on the YouTube channel. One day we went to the Mob Museum in downtown LA. I was filming the stuff on the wall and there was a gun on the wall and I got flagged and demonetized for that it's a real gun but it's in an educational video in a museum I filmed the plaque and said what the gun was as well so the fact you can't even have that on YouTube now it seems like every day that they're suffocating creators more and more with don't say this don't say that you can't have a swear word in the first 30 seconds I really wanted to just fucking get my own platform i've spoken to a lot of people who have got their own platforms um adam rose patreons does really well and stuff like that um and we would be lying through our teeth if teeths if we said that um the money wasn't a factor as well yeah well there'd be absolutely no budget if we're on youtube yeah like absolutely nothing so our first video being flying to stow lake would have just never even been feasible because at least you had an idea in your mind that even though you were out of pocket you thought i'll probably be able to recoup this probably goes back and then um yeah you spoke to tom from i could murder a podcast and they were with a company called fourth wall yeah and then we had some lovely chats with them and that's that's where we're at now yep so um the the freedom to create whatever we want uh and the money were the two factors uh and like we keep saying it wasn't just money in our pocket but money to make better stuff uh because we've only done four five episodes so far and we've had some brilliant times doing it yeah so like going to wank like that kind of still funny still funny uh stuff like that and also on youtube we would have never ever in a million years been able to make the video called i drove a thousand miles to wank yeah ever yeah it's never happening yeah tamara greetix create creatix sorry if i've butchered that who is a first-time member so welcome says what's the trip uh to find the white lady of stow lake uh worth it depends what you class as worth it i'd say worth it in the sense of that i think that video is incredible i genuinely think it's so good and i think all the comments on there say that as well i think they were shocked by how good that first video was yeah although it is very much a vlog of us going to san francisco you've edited it in a way that almost feels a little bit documentary ish yeah but it's just really funny and um yeah obviously spoiler we don't find a go but i definitely think it's worth it in terms of the content we created from it the fun we had doing it and um what it's helped this page do yep jake grew says um are you going to bring any happy hour guests onto jackandstevie.com i'd love to yes i've got some ideas right off the bat that we've spoken about before right yeah so um we would love to because this is a big reason why we want to do this website as well we actually want to go and you know when we ask guests what what what would we do if we spent a day in their hometown yeah and they usually tell us the best and worst of it um i would love to actually start doing them as vlogs yeah so for example um they wouldn't even need to they wouldn't be gold envelopes videos no these would be vlogs yeah so think of it like this so uh a day with adam pearson going to uh the games cafe who arguably gave us our best day of ever four shots for a tenner yeah that stuff he was saying uh so i'd love to do that we spoke about game board games with him as well so we could even go to his house play some board games which he kindly invited us to do off of camera uh we could then go and do cool things like for example go and learn how to um fight with tom aspinall yeah i'd love to do that i'd love to um train and try to play blind football with tobes yep what willie cook speaks about feed the rat festival yeah um so next year um because that's just gone actually but next year we could go and do that that'd be a fun vlog yeah there's so many guests i'd love to i know we've mentioned potentially trying stand up with someone like Matt Richardson.
45:03That could be funny. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We could do a pub quiz with Dara Ennis. Yeah. There's lots and lots. The world is our little fishy oyster. I don't like fish. So you don't like the world? No, I'm staying in, not doing any of this. Okay. Welcome to stevie.com. Members.
45:26Robbie MFC says, oh, so it's kind of a flip of that question. who has been a guest that you thought you'd got on really well with on the day and perhaps thought you might stay in touch but following the pod haven't really reconnected um i don't really stay in touch with any guests so i don't think that's one for me to answer really because i don't i don't think there's ever been a moment where i've gone oh i really like them and they've left and i've not i've had it before where i because i've obviously to guests i'll probably come across the side part anyway but i always it doesn't matter but i kind of used to have it in my head that i could judge if someone cared that i was there or not by when they leave they'd follow me and there was a while where like certain guests would do that like mini minter did it straight away i remember toby and like a lot of the sidemen just did it straight away and then every now and then you'd see someone not doing i'd be able to go you don't care yeah right there was that but there's been some that have probably surprised me i won't name specifics but that where i thought it would have been like really good and then that i just get nothing from them at all yeah i i think there's very few who um we spoke about this on the pod before but like who you would then say oh they are a friend like rather than a guest a friend uh two that spring to mind for me this episode is brought to you by paypal you know how a mom's bag has everything sunscreen snacks a stapler the new PayPal app is like that but for your money shop, pay, manage your account and earn rewards all in one place and with purchase protection on eligible items biometric security and pass keys you're protected at every step download the new PayPal app to get started see paypal.com slash protection terms Sierra has all the best active and outdoor brands for the super athletic stuff like running gear for cruising up the trail Woo!

Someone I'm probably the closest with because of the pod is Andy Goldstein. yeah i speak to him on whatsapp at least once a week and jump on his instagram live and like like we have we have a proper laugh me and andy so i'd say he's someone who i've become friends with through the pod um example yeah he's a mate of ours now um i would happily go and and meet him for dinner and all that stuff um but i'm not going to name names and i don't want this to be one of these like witch hunts or anything but there has been like a couple of guests recently who i thought we really got on with on the day and then after the podcast i've messaged them to say like thanks for coming on no reply and then what we like to i like to i get sam to um tag them in their clips so yeah um for example say let's take example say example comes on we post loads of clips of him talking about mass singer talking about uh fitness talking about live shows and i get instagram sam to tag him as a collaborator on each one he might accept all three of them he might accept one of them whatever fits his page that's fine or even comment and like yeah i've had a guest recently leave here we were fine laughing even off camera great handshakes like no no there was no inkling of any offense caused by either party and then they left here and they didn't reply to me saying thanks for coming on didn't even give it a thumbs up didn't accept any of the collab requests didn't even comment or like on the posters it's like they don't like no interaction nothing anything nothing and I just thought like and on the pod we got on like really got on so I can't work it out maybe they were just busy maybe they and you guys won't be able to work it out so don't even try because you'll go on to posts where we've posted loads of guests and they haven't commented yeah but they've at least whatsapped me and said thanks for today that was good fun so that was weird um I won't name them because I think they're actually a nice person and they obviously just didn't care that much um which is fair Max Scupperson says does Jack and Stevie do Jack and Stevie feel like accomplished podcasters now or is there ever a level of imposter syndrome you guys seem very casual but i know lots of planning goes into the episodes are you professionals now or does it still feel like you wing it it's a lovely comment um i'd yeah i'd definitely say we feel like accomplished i think i could say i felt like an accomplished podcast at a second i could leave my full-time job yeah because that's that's very much it like we're we've obviously been doing also i remember uh that disney talk i did part of the talk i spoke about podcasts and there's a there was a stat made a few years ago so it'll probably be a bit different now that however many a percentage of podcasts like 90 of podcasts don't go past like episode 10 yeah and then 99 don't go past episode 100 or whatever and so we're pushing on or potentially around 600 episodes right now mad and no matter i think no matter how much you enjoy doing podcasts if it's not doing anything in terms of success you're not going to go to that many episodes no like you could absolutely love it but if only one person's listening every week someone will you will just go why am i uploading this yeah but we've not had to worry about that and we don't have to worry about that so i'd definitely class us as accomplished whether we look absolutely stupid doing it and come across like idiots who don't have a clue what they're doing that's just always been how we are we don't want a big team behind it that are trying to change the way we do things no obviously you've got diary of a ceo which is like the poster boy for podcasts at least perhaps last year the year before um i think um what we've built i'm sort of well how can i explain it so diary of a ceo will have like a i don't know for example i'm guessing but like a 30-man team of researchers editors um uh runners all sorts bookers everything we do it all ourselves so in our team this is happy hour in a nutshell jack and stevie hosts robbie and alfie part-time hosts fiona producer and just string puller behind the scenes um then you've got instagram sam you've got josh post who does the art and then you've got people like um tom norris that would clip up the clips for facebook and stuff like that um you're the booking agent i'm the booking agent um i write the episodes planet that is a very nice compliment that you've accidentally given us there um what was your name max was it yeah max because i think this we are a professional podcast um we have a studio we have um recording days we have mad equipment um we we built this off from the ground up we like it to come across like we're just the idiots doing it because we're normal people because we are just normal people yeah um i go back i have two lives i i do the pod with you and i go back home and i'm in the pub with my mates you know what i mean like no offense to steven bartler i actually like steven i think he's he's a lovely guy um i think his life and this could be ignorant because i'm sure he has got another life but he seems like the kind of guy whose life is his work right yeah well he is a ceo yeah right whereas i like that i can come and do my pod and like right behind these cameras right now it's just a wall of all the guests we've had on yeah um since we've been in the studio i like coming in and being able to look at that and being like wow my nan often says to me bless her she goes why didn't you have them at home on your wall and i'm like well i have got things at home on my wall like my plaques and stuff like that but i like that this is a little hideaway we come here we do our job we make people laugh we do incredible things with incredible guests but i get just as much enjoyment with my feet up on the sofa hung over eating pizza watching beard meets food yeah do you know what i mean um it's it's the yin and yang of life and i think if you can i'm going on a tangent here but i was speaking to sunny about this if you can equally enjoy those high moments getting to go on stage at the manchester apollo interviewing ricky gervais playing football at fucking upton park right if you can enjoy those moments as much as going in the murderers for a pint on a saturday with your mates you're winning yeah you're not ever gonna if this all stops tomorrow i've still got this other part of my life that i love so i've gone on a tangent there but i definitely did mean something by it um i was also speaking to fee as well this is another tangent i was speaking to fee um um you know how robbie always says life's about stories yeah it really is right and when we're hopefully we get to this age when we're 70 and we're sat in a dusty corner of a pub right and there'll be new people that we haven't even met yet talking to us maybe grandkids who knows we will have so many stories not of stuff we've done but of what guests have told us yeah and i think this podcast has taught me how to be a better human right because um i would have never i'm from a same council estate as you in norwich right i didn't i didn't actually grow up with many people that weren't just exactly like us yeah so i believe it or not i wouldn't have really known how to speak to a gay person or how to a blind person yeah or ask luke tarrant how he feels only having one leg or get to learn about adam pearson's condition like all of these things would have been taboo for me yeah and i would have shied away from it all the people from different cultures or um backgrounds nationalities do you know do you know what i mean so this podcast is teaching me so much just how to interact with people and i think it's making us better people for it 100 i wonder also if there's a bit of that for listeners i wonder like you know like sometimes because when they're telling us their story yeah making me think of things differently i wonder if they get that as well because that would be lovely yeah 100 definitely and a lot of because we said this before but a lot of the people we met at stage door for happy hour i would have never guessed would have been that demographic do you know what i mean like and and i've i've learned a lot from it and um shout out to all four of us boys actually because i think we're all nice lads i think we all have our morals in check like you know how like youtube youtube is getting cancelled left right and center for things they say and stuff like that i never have to worry about that with you free and stuff and if anything i'm the closest one to getting cancelled but if i ever say anything accident like not that i'd say anything nasty but if i ever use any wrong terminologies um or something like that then Robbie or you or we'll we'll question it and go you shouldn't say it like that yeah like this so I'm learning we're learning very publicly all the time so that's um a long-winded way to answer your question Max but I've answered it nonetheless yep um Stevie who would you say is your this is to both of us but uh Katie asks who would you say is your biggest inspiration within the world that you work whether that's comedy content creation or entertainment I'm probably the wrong person to answer this because I just don't watch I don't listen to other podcasts yeah I don't watch YouTube so who I think I don't know I just do everything from you I'm not going to call you my inspiration that would be weird that would be weird but like I don't I don't enjoy that kind of content just because I live it I don't know if that's like like but weirdly like I'll enjoy watching back our videos yeah when I watched back the pub crawl I was cracking up at it yeah even i've already lived that yeah but then i won't i just don't get enough interest in other people i would say my inspirations are just anyone um who is doing the stuff that i'm doing unapologetically themselves so they're not changing they're not being fake they are just getting up and they're just doing it so for example um someone who I've never considered to be an inspiration but it's just come to my head someone like Rob Beckett he's a comedian smashing his he's smashing it um and he's doing pods and he's he seems to just be loving his life and people who are just in this world that we are in and who are just kind kind people really um people that I find funny I always think are an inspiration so someone like Tom Davis I think he's a lovely guy like just a lot of the people that we sit opposite i think you inspire me in some way shape or form i will say i'm inspired by the people who have been through some shit yeah and seem to just still be the loveliest people ever yeah they're the ones that affect me the most i'm like fucking hell how are you still you yeah how am i moaning about my stuff when you've been through that or whatever um we've had a handful of people on this podcast who the outside world will probably idolize and these are only a few and they've not been very great people yeah right years ago or whatever but like they're not been very nice but you'd look at them and you think that they would be the opposite and then recently we've been on a run of having some amazingly lovely people on and um like adam he's been through a lot of shit in his life he's one of the best people i've ever met yeah he came and he brought us cookies and he brought us a cat calling the caterpillar cake and he was excited to be on the show and he was respectful and he was funny and it was just like fucking hell you've had to go through so much torment in your life and people judging you because of something that you can't control with only you could meet people and they could see your soul straight away because everyone would go what a fucking legend yeah yeah so all of that to say future guests bring us cookies yeah that's the way to win us round yeah if only jamie hull had thought of that if only jamie hull had fucking stopped at greg's on the way here for fuck's sake says jack hate blue van man says Jamie uh I don't hate blue van man um not at all I uh he's just not the kind of person that I thought he was so when I got him on happy hour and when I was quote friends with him I thought he was this funny chubby bloke from Leicester that reviewed McDonald's in a car park and I like that I like that because not only is it funny I'm not just laughing at him I'm definitely laughing with him because he's um so comfortable in his own skin and who he is what i didn't like and that's fine if he wants to do it is the is the ramblings and the rants about politics and race and immigration and stuff like that fine if you want to be that content creator and talk about it and use your um public platform to do that that is absolutely fine he's entitled to do it i don't like it it's not for me so that's why step back and i would never have him on the show again he he won't care and he'll probably kick off at this dave that's not what i'm trying to get at mate but i really liked who he was back in the day that's all right you probably just said all that and he'll just call me fat so that's fine never met the man i really liked who he was and and and it's just a it's a bit of a shame but um i'd like an apology i read a script from him and you just told me i can't see my own penis no you can't to be fair i can't not because you're fat it's just minuscule archie wilson says do you think you two would still be this close if it wasn't for happy hour or jack and stevie um i don't know it's almost impossible to judge isn't it i see you more than i see any of my other friends though but that's because we work together as well yeah but like i don't i guess it depends what you class as closeness what i quite like about some of my friends because i don't have any other friends in this scene other than us four yeah what i like about my friends i don't see as often is that when i do see them again it feels like even if i might not see one of them for like three months and it just feels like i saw him yesterday yeah and it never feels awkward so i don't know but i guess we had that when i was at uni and stuff yeah i came to yours and stayed there for a month before we were doing content so yeah probably yeah if anything we'd be able to talk to each other more because you don't have to keep going or tell you about something when we're in the studio in two weeks and also it's like because i see stevie all the time for stevie uh for jack and stevie for happy hour uh for planning festivals that we're doing like all the time if i'm gonna go to the pub i might not even ask you but you know what i mean like not only you're enjoying time with your family yeah it's like there's been times before as well when like i've planned a pub crawl and then like last minute i've gone oh fuck i should see what stevie's up to because anytime i'm on my phone texting you it's about something or something like that so i think we would be um just as close but it would be in a completely different way i think we wouldn't have as many good stories together either no this is true we wouldn't have gone to wank together no i love going to wank with you uh you brad at six says how did you come up with the name jack and stevie.com that was a hard one to be honest yeah we were the thing is we were trying to come up with like a new x different names and stuff like when we were thinking of like well because we knew when we wanted to do it the first idea like the first big idea that we were settled on was gold envelopes we were thinking do we just call it something to do with gold i think we were even toying with calling it golden showers or something at one point just to be that shit joke and like and like we know like the fellas have fellas loaded but we knew we couldn't have it to do with anything to do with happy hour so we were trying to think can we keep the word owl or the word happy in it and it's just like why are we playing around of all this yeah let's just be what we are and no one will ever forget what that is like you're not gonna go fuck what's that new thing called that they do that's just our names yep and i think the gold envelopes i think i think i came up with that i think the reason i came up with that is it goes a bit off um the old rotashore videos pink slips yeah do you remember that back in the day no but i've heard people mention it's a fifa thing yeah it was kind of like that i kind wanted and i wanted a random element to the episode as well it's a bit tgf-y as well oh yeah tgf do it like it's like you have to go and do whatever we say you do exactly and i think we proved that quite early on as well with the tattoo thing so where the tat obviously we did stow lake in a second video was a tattoo thing we were both kind of going fuck is this big enough of a video to like we've put a lot of money into stow lake going to san francisco the next video being a tattoo thing that's not as long either we were going like oh are they gonna think this isn't as big but that's it wasn't a big video in terms of like what what we had to go and do but it was in terms of what we let each other do like i've got a fucking lad baby tattoo on my thigh yeah like it's mental so it's kind of like that's what the tgf element of it is i guess yeah and and also because we've spoken a lot in this episode about um how more members equals more money equals bigger episode episodes um i don't like i think you guys are fucking mature enough to understand this now but like because we're sometimes worried now that the episodes have to be these big things but I don't think they should always be as long as the concept itself is good enough it doesn't have to be a video that cost two grand to make well we want to do the walk into London episode right because that's again another synonymous thing with happy hour just to see if we could do it and how long it would take I think the way we'd I think what we'd want to do is walk to London and also do a podcast at the end of it yeah but like that would still just be on happy hour yeah that element yeah but that's not going to cost us much money no And we might need somewhere to stay each night unless we camp.
1:05:13Yeah. But that could, in theory, be like a£50 video because we're just going to want food, head torches, stuff like that. Yeah. But I wouldn't want people to be like, oh, well, why are we paying for this? It's the whole series and the whole concept and the whole production around. Yeah. And also if one video costs only a couple hundred quid to make or something, that means we've then got the rest of the budget that we've potentially got on that video to go into a double one next time. So it doesn't mean there'll still be massive videos coming. Yep. And then finally, HBJ07, who's a two-month member, says, how many sign-ups did you initially predict you would get when you first launched hackandcb.com?
1:05:54You said it had surpassed your expectations, but by how far, if you don't mind revealing. I remember the day it was going up. Yeah. I was going like, I can't remember what I said we needed. I think we wanted to hit like 500 or something. 300. Or 300. And I remember messaging going, fuck, are we going to do it? Are we going to do it? And I woke up the day it had gone up and the happy hour episode went up at 5am and that was the only thing that had mentioned it. And I woke up at like seven to take Isaac to school and obviously checked it straight away and we had like 20 members. And I was thinking, 20's good?
1:06:27Because it's only been out two hours. It's only the one half. We haven't done Instagram stories. We haven't done anything yet. It's only the people who have been listening. And then throughout the day, we kept messaging going, okay, it's going all right. It's going all right. and we were both like going do you think it could do this do you think it could do this yeah but yeah it definitely went up potentially a little bit quicker than i expected yeah and then obviously leveled out that's exactly what's happened i thought it would the the misconception i had was i thought it would start slow and then gradually grow yeah it went boom at the start and i went fucking hell that's more than we thought yeah so we wanted 300 that was what was going to be a viable option uh to for us to really focus enough time to do it basically anything under the 300 we'd have to reconsider whether we just do it for a few months and stop we got three times that and then i thought it would um just i thought it would just like slowly go up and up and up we got the boom and then we've lost members along the way people who have found like oh they wanted to see what it was about and it's not quite them that's absolutely fine and now we're just sort of plateauing so it's not insane it's not crazy no but it's enough for us to keep doing it's enough for us to keep doing it and enough for us to be able to reinvest back in the videos but overall forget the numbers forget you lot forget the money forget the memberships i'm loving doing it it's good fun oh it's so good so so good and i know i've got a couple of ideas in my head ready for when i finally get another stevie picks that you're not going to enjoy at the moment it's gone stevie's pick jack's pick jack's pick jack's pick both pick i got three on the bounce but that's how these random things work and who knows maybe an audience pick will come up soon well yeah we are adding it in aren't we adding audience pick in from now so future videos if you remember on there we're going to have a whole discussion thread on there viewers pick it's called viewers pick viewers viewers pick so we're going to have a whole thread on there that you can basically give us your ideas of things you'd love to see us do then that gives us like if we get a viewers pick we can have a look on there and go cool let's go and do that yeah or and if it gets it oh if it gets loads of likes we're probably gonna have no choice but to do it regardless are we and finally um because it is not on youtube we don't have to worry about keeping retention and these little little sort of behind the scenes tricks that youtubers play to keep you watching youtube recommends you to more channels if you go from one video to another we don't care about that over here we haven't got to worry about we want the quality to be good because we love it and we invested in it not because we're trying to feed an algorithm that is a great way for me to put actually we're not trying to feed an algorithm so for example say there was two um ideas that the listeners had someone was like and i'm gonna pick a nice thing for me and a bad thing for you so say it was like send jack to the bahamas yeah right and then for you it was like make stevie go mud wrestling in luton right i'm gonna give me something mean we we don't even need to link those two things like you know how the sidemen will have to be like 1 000 holiday against 2000 the 200 yeah whatever you we can literally just do they're sending me here and you've got to do this and then we split screen it or we cut back and forth it hasn't got to fit any kind of generic youtube theme so there we go there's a lot of freedom there's a lot of people over here it's a very very kind place to be um kind place to be it's a lovely place to be jackandstevie.com two a's in jack yes and if you don't care about jackandstevie.com carry on supporting happy hour in the way that you are because we couldn't do it without you we appreciate you and we love you um also thanks for listening to this whole waffle about it if you don't care yeah legend go and use it for the happy hour element at least.
