In short
Black Sam and Bino Rideaux discuss releasing Nipsey Hussle’s 2017 collab project with Bino to the public (Aug 14), how they refreshed/finished the sequencing and mastering, and how they’re honoring The Marathon brand through music, business ventures (Marathon Burger, Times Square plans), and an upcoming Hustle docu-series.
Guest backgrounds
Black Sam is described as a longtime Marathon/ Nipsey legacy steward and executive who received Hustle’s finished music and helped coordinate producers, artwork, and mixing/mastering. Bino Rideaux is presented as the creative partner who worked with Nipsey on the original project and continues the collaboration.
Key claims
The project was already done by Hustle and Bino; it was delayed to release at the “right time,” with only “three or four” songs added to the original sequence. They avoided leaks and re-listened with the full team. They’re building Marathon Brand partnerships (Foot Locker/Nike on Crenshaw & Slauson; Olympics activation mentioned).
Notable examples
References to Nipsey’s early work (“I had genuine shit early under the radar”), Marathon Burger inspired by Trill Burger and a prior “Marathon Burger” idea tied to Fatburger, and a docu-series (8–9 episodes) using extensive footage from Hustle’s life and career.

4:18Appreciate you brothers for coming through. What's going on? Tell the world what we got. What can we expect? What's going on with this project? Dang. I was on Tom coming, and we decided to, you know what I'm saying, you could be here. I'll let y 'all about it. I could imagine you, all of this for you was a lot. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? But, you know, I got to put it to the side. It's a mission. Yeah, good problem. I mean, in a good way. It's like you get to be in the machine and carry the torch. Yeah, it's an honor, and it's a blessing for me. My brother Sam, you've been in your business since your whole keep it Things in cahoots, keeping the marathon going, keeping the legacy of Nip active and live.
5:04His shoes are not easy to fill. Like bro said, we got an obligation. So I'm going to be able to do that. Crack always got the stories with me. Before Nip actually, when he was still making his bones and still putting in his work, before he actually blew, I knew about him early, so I wanted to do some work with him. shout out to my man Steve rest in peace the ice pick rest in peace the nip I'm calling for my single it ain't nothing new nigga fool over here by self came in the video he chill with me all his style is just super here showed up shot his shit those that know they know that that's a smoker right there but I'm just glad I got the link with him early before the bandwagon the whole world Everybody went nip crazy as they should have.
5:55But man, I had some good genuine shit early under the radar. Just solidness, you know what I mean? And even with you, you always show me love. I go by the marathon. I mean, I needed some bud before the plane. He gave me enough to open up shop with. Like, so Sam, I need something. I got a flight in a couple hours. He came back with the mother loaner. I just actually finished that shit. You didn't bring it on the plane? Did I? Could you? I'm just saying, could you? Sure, dude. Sure. It's like legal war. Sure. He gave me in in Cali. I just finished it in my crib. Steve Lobel gave me a whole bunch of fucking weed and I don't even fucking smoke.
6:37Nah, I told him to keep that shit over there. I was like, yo, I ain't going through TSA with that shit. I said, nah, I'm alright. I met your brother with Steve Lobel. He was young, young, young, young, young, young, young, young. He was in the Bronx with us hanging out. It's so weird. We ain't got pictures of that because I seen one of his mans over here, two that was out there. And, man, I met him mad young. When he was mad young, I thought he looked like Snoop. Right? I was like this. And they was telling me, yo, he's going to be a star. He was mad cool. We hung out with him. And then the rest is history.
7:16You know, we just cross paths all the time. different parties, different situations. He always was intelligent to me, very, very smart, very, very aware and business savvy. He wasn't talking about what niggas is talking to me about in the party. He talking about some other shit. Yo, this, you ever heard of the Black Godfather music? Clarence, Chavon, shit. I'm like, yo, my man. Nigga, I barely party. He talking that smart shit in the party. And so, uh, salute to him. And, um, so you out here rolling this up, you know, as an executive, tell us how y 'all linked up and why you felt, you know, you want to come out here.
8:06We made it feel time to release the project. Well, you know you got to come here to promote it. No, no, I'm just saying, Coach, I'm sure you get, and you outside side? You selling burgers? You getting 36 ,000 demos a day. He can't even go easy. This ain't one of those projects. This is in-house family. I understand, but how did this come about? And why did you say, yo, I'm gonna go out there and I'm gonna show my face and I'm gonna co-sign this project to the highest level? Because I'm sure you know everybody and their mother probably telling you they the next Nipsey Hussle or some shit like that.
8:45So this project it's something that Bro, the hustle did with Bino and hustle gave it to me a while ago after a victory lap. Basically like, Bro, it's the next project. Like I told a couple people before, like anytime I get music from Bro, I know it's a masterpiece. He don't want to hear what I got to say and critique and it. He like, nigga, watch out. This is done. So when I get it, I'm excited and I'm like, all right, it's over. He's like, yeah, this is just the album. Tell me what you think. So I listened to it and as the team and we going crazy. And so that's this project, everything that happened.
9:20It didn't come out. And at the time, the family and the team and me personally, I'm like, I don't even want to talk about music. You know how people that's not part of the family or the team close, like, oh, this is the best time to drop. You got to do it now. You want to hear that? And Bino and his team, they're like, bro, whenever it's right, it's here. So nobody did, nobody leaked nothing. Nobody put nothing out. It's just, you know, when the time is right. So I think maybe about, what, like a year ago, we kind of reached out to everybody in 18. Like, man, what you guys think? They're like, man, let's go.
9:53And so I just felt like it may be the right time to listen back to the music and let's figure this out. And so that got us here, you know, sat down with everybody, the producers, Vino, Vino team, Out the Blue, and All Money In. Our whole team came in with all hustle producers and everybody just re-listened to the project. He had already sequenced it together. With Beano, they picked the artwork. It was really ready to go. And so we just kind of, they had already sent it to Ali to mix a master. So it was kind of like just, let's look and see, is it any pieces that could be missing? And then Hustle has some old songs on a playlist and then they had some old songs and I got insight from them.
10:36They're like, no, Hustle was thinking about, Beano was thinking about putting these songs on this project. So I think we may have added like three or four to the original sequence. And then this is what it is, man. But I'm excited to your point. This is not us going and getting anything new. This is a project that Hustle and Bino did together. He handed this music to me. And just appreciative that we could be releasing it right now to the public. And I know Bino got so much more stories about the bits. You know what I'm saying? Like, what made Nip-T see the talent in you? And say, let's go. One of the ones, nigga.
11:14Nah, I mean, honestly, bro, I asked myself that. I had to stop asking myself that. You know what I'm saying? Like, when we linked, you know, it was me and my bro tight. You know, we was trying to do this music thing. Of course, we saw Sam and Nip and Om in the end, just, you know, the whole campaign, the marathon, that Bennett thing. So we was fans of it, you know? So we always wanted to carry ourselves, you know what I'm saying? And conduct ourselves a certain way in this music shit. So we always said if we had to link up with anybody, you know, it would be, you know, all money in for sure. It would be Nip, you know what I'm saying?
11:44One day we got that call, bro, off my bro. Shout out Casey Veggies, off Casey Funk. And he called me and it's Nip, you know what I'm saying? So I'm like, man, like, he's like, put it to the studio. We there every day after that, you know what I'm saying? We just, it's just constant workflow. Next thing you know, Nip, you know what I'm saying? He liable to come out, let's just do this tape, you know? It just happened like that. Eganically. as to why he believe, why he, you know what I'm saying, trust me enough to do that, I don't know, bro. Because you you. I appreciate that. Whoever let nobody ask you that question.
12:13Yeah, you know, that's real. That's real, but, you know. YG was over here last week, and YG said the same type of shit. Like, you just, they just connected, went in the studio and started banging out music. Like, he was like, yo, Nipsey was like that. He just showed up to the studio, and we just start working. And that's great that you got, I ain't got none of that shit. Ain't no B-No-Nowhere pulling out Fat Joe Dotted Day. Ain't no album nowhere, guys. I ain't got no extra music or nothing. That's just pretty incredible that you got a whole project that you came up with. It was already done. That's fine.
12:52They just had to do a little bit of tweaking. That's like a blessing within a blessing. Yeah. I mean, like bro said, we was prepared to, you know what I'm saying, follow up with this after the victory left. You know? so you know everything happened how it happened you gonna do some shows you gonna do I'm with all of that you know what I'm saying I'm with every I feel like possibilities is endless now that we putting the music out you feel me we got over that hump but even us giving the fuck to even get here you know what I'm saying or even being in the right headspace so you know we here now so let's see where it takes me I remember when I was out there we was talking you was telling me marathon expansion yeah you coming over you coming on this side Yeah, yeah.
13:33We got some on Times Square. Wow. Working on it right now, man. I'll tell you something. You're selling a lot of burgers because that shit about$150 ,000 a month, that motherfucking rent on Times Square. Man, man. You know, I know the rents, man. That shit a whole lot over there. Yeah, we got lucky, man. One of our guys that we know that was real close with bro had an opportunity and he called on the same thing. I'm like, man, I don't know if we can afford that right now. and he like, look, I'm grandfathered in. I got a situation. I got a lease that's where it needed to be. I'm like, how much is it?
14:09He told me, I'm like, all right, we pulling up. So God be throwing things in our laps, really. So when I seen where it was too, I'm like, oh, this is a no-brainer. So we ended up doing a certain situation and you're remodeling it right now. We're going to open it up. To your point, it ain't going to hang us with the price. It's cool. That shit, I went looking, because you know I own sneaker stores. I went one time looking at that shit. I was like, yo, guess what? We can't sell enough sneakers for this shit. Right, right. This shit out of control. $150 ,000 a month. We got the hookup,$120 ,000.
14:43I'm like, niggas ain't buying them sneakers like that. This shit's out of here. We ain't doing that. But it's good that you found a great spot. Actually, it's beyond a blessing. And why out of all things, you chose a restaurant or like a burger joint to open up as a business venture? I think everything for us, it'd be kind of like organic and natural. And when we get signs, I always, from Hustle, myself, our team, we always want to just activate on the signs. So we're doing clothing. And our whole team was kind of watching this Smashburger. Explosion. Phenomenon, yeah. Shout out to Trill Burger.
15:31Yeah, for sure. Trill Burger. Trill Burger got some good-ass burgers, too. You never had a marathon? I never went the marathon. I never been able to go. Trill was one of the inspirations. You're watching them and then you're seeing all the things that they're doing. So we're like, man, we got to get one of them. So we, I think at ComplexCon, we got some of their stuff. And then we just seeing it go on the internet. And then we just start going on a tour, on a burger tour. Our team, what we're doing for lunch, we all go. We just organically rating them. Like, which one you like the best? I like they meat better.
16:05They bread. I don't know. I like that bread. And then we talking and something just hit. I'm like, man, we need to make our, we need to make a marathon burger. Like, what we like about that, that, that, that, that, and add our twist. And then once we start thinking that, I'm like, I just remember me and Hustle used to work at a restaurant. And then Hustle did something with the Fatburger. He wanted to name it a Marathon Burger. He was always talking like, man, we need to do this, do this. I'm like, all right, this is what we're going to do. And so once that happened in our head, we was like, if this shit bankrupt us, we're going to get this first one off, regardless.
16:38And we got that motherfucker off. at least Instagram-wise, I was watching and said, damn, they put that shit out the park, which is great, because a lot of times when an artist passes away, you know, their family are left there, like, don't know the business or don't know where to take it or don't know where to, so we gotta commend you for being a great businessman to keep the legacy forward, because you can't expect everybody to just know how to create a business or keep a legacy going. And what y 'all been able to do has been pretty amazing to watch. You know, so we've been watching you, man, and y 'all been doing your motherfucking thing.
17:23And the burgers look good. Fat Joe got, you know, I got to come through and just, because I'm Fat Joe, I invested in this shit back here. Tell us about the docu-series. I got a docu-series coming? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we've been working on that, man. We've been working on that for a while. That's the most important thing for us. It's going to be like eight or nine episodes. And just to cement legacy and put things etched in stone. We've been hearing, me personally, man, I've been just hearing all type of slander and felonious bullshit. You know what I mean? So just keeping me sane and not going on everything.
18:04It's like, man, we working. and when this come out, it's going to be like that. This is what it is. Come on, man. It's documented, man. We got hustle. We got, we really been blessed, man. We got hustle on every stage. Like what bro was saying, like young, we got hustle. When he first learned how to make beats, when he had a ball fade, when he was a teenager, we had, we got footage from everything and it's documented in this. And so everybody who see, see the footage like, oh man, this is crazy. I know what y 'all got. We, you know, So that's kind of like the main focus for me and the team is like, we got to put this one down.
18:39And this just tells just the whole journey. It just, it's there and the goods, the bads and the struggle and make people, like people love hustle and respect hustle. And they only really know maybe like 10%. So when you see it, when you really see it, and I'm a fan of hustle, a real fan of documentaries. So one thing, like we don't like hearing people just talk about it. We want to see it. And we want to see different people have the same accounts in different walks of life. So you've got the grandmas, the aunties, the smokers, the kids. You've got everybody. You've got everybody going to say the same exact thing.
19:13And we've got the proof. You know, you see everything in it. And so for me, it's very important that we let that speak. And when that come out, I think it's just going to sweep all the awards. It's going to do everything you need to do because it's really crazy when you take a step back, even with us editing everybody from our team, people that just kind of met Hustle and was working with him from Victory Lap. They seeing that footage and like, whoa, we've never seen Hustle like this. And I'm like, oh, damn, that's right. Yeah. I forgot. Y 'all don't even really know that. Yeah, yeah. That's it.
19:47Can we expect that? Y 'all still working on it? Yeah, it's almost finished. I think, you know, our shit had got shelved for a minute and we coming out the pocket trying to keep it going ourself. and then we just got Alan Hughes to come on to help us executive produce it. So, uh-oh. It's close.
20:06You already know when it's a real moment, you need a real bottle. That's why we rock with 1800 Tequila. Y 'all heard me? These people been making tequila for 11 generations. That's right, 11. That's a legacy. That's OG status. OG. They were the first to introduce Anejo, set the standard before most of these brands even existed. And you could taste the difference for real. The 1800 Cristalino and Reposado is what we've been on lately. Smooth, clean, elevated. No burn, no rough edges, just a premium pour that speaks for itself. You know when it's something that's just built right? That's what this is.
20:49Real talk, that's just what it is. It's always around for the best nights, the wins, the celebrations, the remember that night story. Whether you're keeping it low key with the crew or you're pulling up to a big event, 1800 fits every setting. It ain't trying too hard. It's just that. 1800 tequila, real legacy, real smooth. That's the move. True, true, true. One. Yo, I was scrolling through the Sprite living track list the other day and immediately started arguing with myself. Arguing with yourself? I'm serious. It was wild because records like California Love, Still Not a Player, back then, those aren't just songs.
21:30Nah, those are moments, memories, snapshots of where hip-hop was and where it's going. Exactly, and that's what Sprite gets. They spent over 40 years celebrating artists who really defined the culture. And now they flipping it, letting the fans be part of the conversation. Which is where it gets interesting, because the real debate is why. Like, why did that song matter? Why did that line hit? Why did it change hip-hop forever? I can't promise you we got the answers. But you're definitely going to have a good time figuring it out. Go check out Full Sprite Living Tracklist. And break down the stories behind your favorite bars.

How does it feel to have some shit like that coming out with a guy that's so immortalized like that in LA like that? Like that gotta be some other shit. Nah, it's surreal, bro. You know, but I feel like, you know, just my feelings overall all just kind of outweigh that.
26:04You know what I'm saying? Because it's like a nigga mourning it, bro. A nigga miss, bro. You feel me? I'd rather be doing this shit with, bro, type shit. You feel me? So, in every situation, like even in this, like I don't know how I'm gonna get to hear and approach this shit talking to y 'all about it. So I feel like, you know, bro kind of got him. You know what I'm saying? He with us. You know what I'm saying? This shit. This shit here. You feel me? It's crazy because we both, he lost DMX, Biggie. I lost Pun. so I went through some similar shit and today out of all things and shit, somebody was like showing me pictures of me and punting, that shit just hit me in a special place where I was just like man, I just knew how happy we was at that time and how you know what I'm saying, so man, there's a big moment for you man, there's a real it's a real big moment for you bro.
26:59Special release day too it's come out August 14th It's a day before next 41st birthday. He's a Leo. Five. I'm the 19th. So I know all about that shit. And so the 14th will come out. Y 'all doing your rounds. I can tell y 'all right now, don't do nobody podcast. They shit don't mean nothing. Wasting your time. Saliva. Might as well just jump on the jet back to motherfucking LA. Like, cause these niggas shit flabby is sick, man. You know what I'm saying? Niggas ain't got that fluid. But I'm just like, I gotta talk my shit. I gotta keep them on their toes and all that. What else? Whatever thing, cause I know you had a situation, you had a situation with Puma.
27:48Whatever collabs and things are you planning if we can know, you know, with the legacy? You know, we're trying to get things in motion with a couple of brands. We've been trying to activate really for the Olympics. We got something going. We got a venture that we're doing with Foot Locker and Nike. On Crenshaw and Slauson, they're redoing a Foot Locker. Over there, they're redoing it in the hood. We're going to activate Marathon Brand with them. Like you say, reaching out and the opportunity that we did have with Puma has opened the doors for a lot of different other sponsors and different other shoe companies.
28:28So we just, we trying to build the Marathon brand up and let the other people know like, hey, we can do things with things. We just did something backwards too. And so just add a value to the brand at the highest level is kind of what we trying to do right now. Let me ask you something. When you was growing up with Nip, like who are some of the artists that really inspired him? What's the CD or the cassette that y 'all cracked open? Y 'all listened to that shit a hundred times in a row and was like, yo, this shit crazy. Nip was a connoisseur of music, hip hop. So no shit, no shit. Hustle put me on all New York music.
29:08I mean, Hustle used to spend the lunch money, spend the money and go buy the Source magazine. And I'm like, bro, let's just go look at it. He like, nah, nigga, I got a hat in the house. So I listened to music. I was three years older than him. So when we're younger, I'm thinking I'm running things. but he was the blueprint as far as what I would listen to. If he didn't co-sign it, I'm not even listening to it. So just when you say that, it's all, everybody, you know, all New York, Nas, Big J, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, you know, Hustle had a lot of respect and admiration when he was young. And so DMX, really everything.
29:49Hustle put me on most death. Hustle was just anything dope. He was, he was a fan of talent. And he was a fan of artistry, you know, and authenticity. So even with Vino. You say it's like us. You say all that shit. I remember I used to go to L.A. to Crenshaw and Slauson, nigga. Like, I thought I was in a chronic, like a motherfucker. I'm riding around L.A. Make my butt the chronic. I got to get fucked up. You know what I'm saying? I used to run out there. Like, now I'm more bougie. Now I'm in the Beverly Hills side. But, you know, when I was younger, B, the guy who used to drive me around L.A., who was like my rep for L.A., was Big Boy.
30:31You know, at one time, he used to work for my record label. Well, the record label I was signed to, the nigga used to drive me, sell me the burner phones, all type of shit. So I'm all over the hood with Big Boy and Fuzzy. Them niggas took me everywhere. And I used to tell them all the time. I was like, I must have wanted to die. yo take me to the sloths to swap me they be like yo you wanna go there like I'm like yo I gotta see that shit like I gotta understand what it is you know now I'm more you know I'm on the other side you know you know noble on the water some shit like that right but uh it's vice versa you know what I'm saying we's always intrigued with the LA culture as far as like NWA and the movies and shit, right?
31:19So, you know, we would study the movies and be like, you know, to this day, you know what I'm saying? We watch the movies and we like, yo, that shit crazy. That shit is... I remember the first time I met them niggas, like all the niggas in the movies and shit, like I met them in LA. I was like, yo, this nigga Kane. Yo, this nigga... I don't know, nigga. I ain't from Hollywood, nigga. I'm from over here. I go over there. I meet them niggas. I'm bugging out. I'm like, Yo, this the niggas from fucking Don't Be A Menace. You know what I'm saying? It's the same shit. Vice versa. You know what I'm saying?
31:57Prolific, man. 814. Make sure y 'all tap in some serious shit. You got some music? You got some music. Let's get a listen to some new fire. Yo, just know. Y 'all played this anywhere before? Alright, so we expect a plaque when the shit 10 platinum, because he gonna make this shit go to the next of shit this shit gonna play this shit on a space shit you know the nigga who killed Ben Lime was listening to Game you know that right he told us that it's the truth the guy who went to kill Ben Lime was listening to Game the Red October shit wait who told me about that the game was on our show and they got it documented and he said it, so.
32:46How about the guy who did it wrote a book and he said it. Damn. When I went to kill Bin Laden, I was listening to Red October when I shot the nigga in his head. I'm just being honest with you. I don't know the guy who wrote the book. Oh, my God. We had a game on the show. He said the same thing. No, I think he don't know. What's up, man? Let's take an 1 ,800 toast. Are we drinking it? Prolific. 1 ,800. Come on now Let's keep it 1800 We keeping it 1800 We keeping it 1800 Salud my brothers

Do you love it when you throw that pussy a slide away?
36:16Tell me how you want it or let you want to do it my way? She said I make it feel so good, I make it vibrate You know a nigga off the hood, I do the right way Take a pin, tell me to pick her up and make it brighter Is it really what you said or what you're lying? 37:09I just wanna know I just wanna know I just wanna know I just wanna know
37:32that shit feel good man I could hear that all day soon as I get off the plane I know that shit is spinning off that LA that's spinning everywhere but that shit get over there that over there I know you guys from being from LA you don't think that radio supports you as much as they should but when we come to LA we hear LA on that fucking radio that shit be sounding like Ice Cube still number one jump off in that car yo turn on the radio that shit be like California love you be like alright you know where the fuck you at ASAP that shit come on like yo let me tell you something that song right there hit record don't forget where they heard it first you got Cardi on there I'm not surprised you did good you know she did she does great that's what I was thinking but she asked that shit I was gonna see if she was gonna stay with them she went extra little Kim Hardcore nah she went took it there cause he was talking that shit yeah you see I said you know I start I start talking like that my wife be like nigga it's a song Yeah, I've been saying this to Storm forever.
38:55Like, what you talking about, man? He talking that shit shit. I remember when I first heard that, this was before Victory Lap even came out. That record almost made it on Victory Lap. Wow. It should have. It's a really incredible record. I can see that. Hustle like, no, I want to, I think this song fit this project better. See, I want to tell you something. I can see how it almost made it, though. That shit is a slap. That shit is a slap. We all the way positive. We made it through a segment all the way positive. But I just want to, I want to say that I've always respected and appreciated your brother's commitment to his hood and his community with opening businesses and giving back.
39:41I'm the same way. And if your brother made a mistake, I ain't learned from his mistake. I'm still out there feeding the people. I'm still out there putting our people to work in the fucking stores. I'm still out there. I remember when it happened. Almost like Michael Jackson. I said, yo, I do the same shit. So we got to know because a lot of people, they make it and they disappear from the hood. We don't even see them. They ain't even got to make it as an artist. They could just get a job. I know we all like, yo, we want to get out of here. We tired of the hood. But, you know, you could come back and show niggas some sort of inspiration.
40:23You could come back and show them, yo, you could be in your hood. And I know that's kind of trickier for me to say than you. But if anybody wants to hear it, I appreciate what he stood for and what he did for his community. I do the same shit. Kids do the same shit. and we just telling the younger kids that's looking out there, you should do the same shit. If you're blessed enough to come up out the hood and God blesses you, you should help your people. You should go back and invest in your community and have something where people feel like they can still touch you. And that's important. And you know, I'm not surprised when I seen you flipping burgers.
41:08I'm that same nigga, nigga. I flip burgers in the hood. I'm there. You know what I'm saying? I'm all about feeding the family, feeding the people. I love that shit. So when I see you do that, that entrepreneurial thing, that's what I'm about, man. You know what I'm saying? Just doing it for myself. You know what I'm saying? I hate working for niggas and every time I work with a nigga, I realize they pieces of shit. Except me. Not you. Not you. He think everything I am. No, I'm talking about the other niggas we work with. But I'm just talking about... My thing is, I like to be my own boss. And I think you're doing a prime example of that.
41:50You know what I mean? And that's very important to show everybody... My thing is, August 14th, prolific. Nip, Bino, it's going down, baby. Come on. Tap it. This ain't that. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Tap it. Thanks, guys. You're the main thing, the main thing. Be big. That's on a hit.
