In short
Maury Povich (host of Maury) discusses the paternity-test format, his most surprising “you are the father” moments, and his long-running desire to mediate the Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj feud. He also reflects on how the show got its paternity-test concept, why he didn’t want to know results in advance, and how often DNA outcomes defy expectations (including fraternal twins with different fathers).
Guests
Fat Joe (rapper from the Bronx/Yonkers area; longtime hip-hop figure; talks about growing up watching daytime TV and his own career breaks) and Jada (Jadakiss, rapper; co-hosting with Fat Joe; discusses authenticity, school-skipping memories, and personal anecdotes).
Key claims
Maury says he was originally a journalist, then was brought into TV by Paramount; paternity tests were shaped by executives (including Lucy Selnaney and later Amy Rosenblum). He claims he stays surprised by not seeing results beforehand. He cites a case where a man was father of one twin but not the other.
Notable examples
Shaquille O’Neal allegedly bet on paternity segments; a “fraternal twins” case (one father, one not); repeated “wrong father” scenarios; Maury’s desire for a primetime special to settle Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj.

2:40Welcome to the show, Maury.
2:55Yeah, yeah, what up, y 'all? This is Joe Crack the Dawn. You know who it is, your boy Jada. It's the Joe and Jada Show. Every show legendary. Every show iconic. Today's key word is iconic. Wow. Without even further ado, when you think of today's guest. Let me go to the envelope. Let me pull out the time. It's an envelope? No. Time for it. You think of today's guest? Wow. Nah, that's right. You deserve that. 31 years on the air. Ha-ha. You know, you know. When you think of today's guest. When you think of today's guest. The envelope. Ah! You know what I mean? Let's get right down to business. No, no, I am not.
3:48Let's get down to business. Check it out. When you think of today's guest, you think DNA tests on national television. You think lie detectors changing lives in front of millions. You think that envelope, that slow walk across the stage. You think paternity revealed in prime time. You think daytime TV that hit different in the hood. You think 90s chaos, unfiltered, uncut, no apologies. You think the wildest era of television ever produced. You think of a man married to one of the most powerful women in news history. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's our girl. You think 30 plus. That's our girl, yeah, that's how you look, yo.
4:37You think 30 plus, kid. You think 30 plus, kid. You hear one out the block. All right. You think 30 plus years is staying relevant when everybody else faded. You think legendary, institution, undeniable. And most importantly, you think you are not the father. Thanks for knowing for Maury Povey. Whoa. Whoa. I have never, Jada, ever had an intro like that. Oh, I appreciate that. Top five. Dead or alive. That ain't a regular guy giving you that. That's Jadon Kiss. I'm telling you. Top five dead or alive. I mean. He ain't a regular. Nah, yo, Maury. First of all, Maury, you're not even real. You don't even real.
5:24Yo, yo, yo, yo. You're sitting here. He starts off with a flat. I ain't going to tell one of the most realists he's not even here. I just feel like we have a superhero in the... Like, he's not. He's a fucking Smithstonian instructor. A Smithstonian. Not the Smith... A Smithstonian, whatever that is. Well, you look like you ain't smoked the highest grade this morning. You sharp today. You didn't say that right. I told him you was high. I said he's coming high. I've been very sober. He came sober. He can't be high and read that intro. You're very smart, boy. Rappers can't read. Exactly. If you ever read off with rappers, it'd be a lot of sad for my homies.
6:09I just can't read like a track. You know. First of all, I'm just honored to be sitting in the same seat that Cardi B was sitting in.
6:25First of all, you don't understand. When I saw that episode, I've been trying. I'm ready to come out of retirement. I've been trying to get Cardi B and Nicki Minaj to settle their dust on my show for years. I mean, years. And I've always said to both of them, I'll come out of retirement, I'll have a primetime special, and we'll all worry about the results. Man, that's a great idea, Maury. That's incredibly incredible if you can pull that one. But the fact that you had Cardi B here. Cardi B, our girl, man, She from the Bronx. I'm just so proud of Cardi B. No, wait a minute. You're from Yonkers.
7:08No doubt. Say it again. You're from Yonkers. No doubt. Which, by the way, is right next to the Bronx. It's a subsidiary. Subsidiary? It's a subsidiary. It's not even equal. It's not in it, Ray Reed. It's a subsidiary of the Bronx. It's a joint venture. The Bronx is a joint venture of Harlem. Everybody from the Bronx think they from Harlem. I am always honored when great hip-hop artists, great rappers, know who the fuck I am. Oh, we love you. Make some noise for that. Let me ask you something, James. Could you do a, how many people put you all the father in the song or Maury Bovich in hip-hop? Now, we got a fake smart guy behind the computer over there.
7:58No, but it's true. Over the years. What? Listen, Maury, first of all, the bad news about you, right, is I remember every time I would skip school. Not you. Not you. I would see Regis Philbin. Oh, Regis? That was around my time. Sure. Luke and Laura, General Hospital. Oh, General Hospital. I'm out here skipping school. I'm watching Regis, right? How many people skipped school and was watching the Maury Povich? You wouldn't believe how many people. You schooled the whole America. Tried to fake being sick to stay home from school. And I used to, and when people used to say that, I said, so how did you, how did you convince your mom to let you stay home when you weren't really sick?
8:48And they said, well, we took a thermometer and held it up to the, to the, the light bulb to make sure that the temperature was up. You like that one. Jay, you like that. Yeah, Jay was. Don't try that at home, bro. Don't try that at home. His son is here. The twins might try that. The twins might try that trick. Man, let me tell you something, Maury. You raised a whole generation of people, man, and entertained us. And I don't know if you know, but your show reached out to me one time and said, yo, we want to have Fat Joe as a guest. I said, fuck. No, I'm not going on there. And then you're going to be like, this is Janice.
9:33You met her at All-Star Game 2022. She says that you are the father. I don't know. Fuck you shit, me. Get the fuck out of here. Wait a second. Were you always afraid of that? That some girl was going to say something? No, no, no, no. Come on, Joe. Your show was based on, you know, So it was, are you the father or not? Exactly. So when Maury Povich comes, it's almost like the IRS. I said, yo, that's it. I'm done. I got you. He got some chick. In other words. In other words. I was at Jimmy's Bronx Cafe with this guy in 97. Just the call got you upset. That shit is crazy. I got, and I don't want to give no energy to this, but, you know, I got one crazy girl, and she hits me up all the time talking about, you're my father.
10:27But there's no resemblance in the universe. She'll be like, you're my father. And I'm telling you, my mother told me. I'm looking. I'm like, nah. You know, all my kids, like all Jadakiss kids, they got something that you know is Jadakiss. Fat Joe's kids look like Fat Joe. Jadakiss has no problem with his kids. No, me either. Me either. But I mean, you would understand why a rapper would be terrified when they get the call. Yo, come on, Maury Povich. I was like, fuck. No, no. He's got this new thing. He's bringing rappers. Nah, fuck out of here. Not the Maury. I got two questions, a two-part question.
11:08One was, when you were younger, did you foresee yourself doing this? No fucking way. Okay. Are you kidding me? when I was, I grew up 25 years, 30 years in the new television news business. And I was just going to be a straight journalist. And then in the late eighties, this guy, Rupert Murdoch, this crazy Australian. I just watched his documentary. So anyway, he had this idea for this kind of crazy tabloid news show called a current affair. And it started in 1986 and they brought me to New York. I was working in my hometown of D.C. And that became a huge hit. And then all of a sudden, the Paramount people, the studios, wanted to give me a talk show in 1991.
11:57And that's how it all started. You already know when it's a real moment. You need a real bottle. That's why we rock with 1800 Tequila. These people been making tequila for 11 generations. That's a legacy. That's the OG status. They were the first to introduce Anejo. Set the standard before most of these brands even existed. And you can taste the difference for real. The 1800 Cristiano and Raspisado is what we've been on lately. Smooth, clean, elevated. No rough edges, just a premium pour that speaks for itself. You know when something is just built right? That's what this is. Real Talk. That's just what it is.
12:43It's always around for the best nights, the wins, the celebrations. Then remember that night's stories. Whether you're keeping it low-key with the crew or you pull up to something big, 1800 fits every Senate. It ain't trying too hard. It's just as that. 1800 tequila. Real legacy. Real smooth. That's the move.
13:12let's give props to who was the original person who came to you and pitched the idea said maury i think you could be great for a show from paramount her name was lucy selhaney she was the head of the syndication division but i must give the credit when it came to the paternity test it was my executive producer many years later named amy rosenblum she came up with the idea. And what happened was what, what I gave to it is when the first time we were ever doing a paternity test, I knew the story, the show producer was briefing me down right before we go on. And she says, the result is, and I went, I don't want to know the result.
13:53I don't want to know anything more than my guests, my live audience, my audience at home. I want to be as surprised. I don't want to know anything more than they do. No way. Because I would ask questions because I knew the answer. So I wanted to be as surprised. So the way it came out, you are the father or you are not the father. So you're sitting there just like us. I was as surprised as anybody. Fuck. You know how many times I was like, this motherfucker's the farm. But look, they got the same nose. They got the same nine bullshit. Can I tell you? You don't want to pay. Can I tell you about Shaquille?
14:29Yeah. You want to tell you about Shaq? Yes. Shaq tells me he and his buddies used to bet every single day on all the paternity segments as to whether they were the father. I believe you. I believe you. Out of line for that. I'm looking at Maury. I thought of something. This next question might be out of line, but I'm looking at Maury. I said, damn, they had to invite him to an Epstein party. You know something? This is the most amazing. No, this is the most amazing thing in the world, okay? He fits the criteria, right? Oh, man. He was up in the Epstein joint. How are you going to say that? I thought I was.
15:11I thought I'm walking around. I'm walking around. You're like, for sure, I'm in that. I'm walking around this town. I think I'm some kind of a big shot. Nobody ever invited me to anything. Ain't that some bullshit? You wanted them to invite him to Epstein? Let me tell you something. I'll tell you, I was recently invited to what I think is the Epstein party. No, I swear to God. This guy's nuts, dog. What do you want me? You met the algorithm. No, I met the algorithm. You invited the Epstein party. You might need... I'm in LA Beverly Hills. I'm in the Jewish deli Nathan House. I go every morning when I'm there.
15:51Having my split peak. Come over and say, Joe, the owner of Instagram would love to meet you. Young guy. Boom. go over there he says he's the owner of Instagram he's meeting with the guy who produced Marty Supreme and I said holy shit if you're the owner you're the fucking algorithm like you're the guy that controls this shit he said yes I am the algorithm he said this guy right here he said yes he said this guy right here he's the guy who did Marty Supreme he's trying to figure out how to work the algorithm them more. I see shit. So I tell them that they look at me like I'm crazy. But let me tell you, I'm in Super Bowl, this past Super Bowl, San Francisco and a good friend of mine, man, yo, I love you.
16:41Nah, I worship him. I love him too much. But he invites me to an event. That shit starts 10, 9. And actually, I'm delirious because I'm on the different time zone and all that. So I'm like, yo, let me just go show my cheekbone for 10 minutes and I'm mad at you, right? It goes 10, 9, 8, 7. I shit you not. The biggest party you ever seen in your life. In 10 seconds, it turned into, they had little people, you know, little people running around. They had magicians. They had the best fucking magicians you've seen in your life. It'd be like, you got a$20 bill in your pocket. Where are we going with this?
17:24Where I'm going is... Go, Gory! there's a lot of ladies there dancing like Moulin Rouge. I look to the right, Sophia Vergara's there. Jessica Albers there. My good friend, Jaru, is popping rum. And in 10 seconds, it got to the most 10, nine. It felt like New Year's. And I'm looking around. All I saw was 80 old white guys videoing. I've never been, you, you, You been to a spot like that where the whole fucking crowd was 80-year-old white? I said, yo, this shit, the Epstein. No, I'm in there like this. I said, yo, I look. This everybody's in there. It's an 80-year-old white guy filming the young girls that's dead.
18:15And I said, this, the dude, Epstein. This shit gonna blow up in 20 years. Fat Joe was in the building. He had his carrots red at the shit. Yo, that shit was crazy. But anyway, you know, I got some. You know what Chappelle says about that? What he said? He said one time on stage that he got all upset that he was never invited to any of the Epstein parties. He says, maybe it's because I was too ugly.
18:45Nah, man. By the way, he's from D.C. Like me. Yeah, DMV. Yo, but was you doing the butt? When they had doing the butt. Ah! Sex tape! Oh, black! Already, boy. There's a genre of music I don't know if you was introduced to, but it's out of D.C. It's called Go-Go Music. Never heard of it. Wow. But I haven't been back in a while. That's like hip-hop in the Bronx. No, I've been there forever, but that's where Spike Lee got the record doing. But, yeah, he got those guys from D.C. to do that, but that is the shit. Yo, Maury, what was the wildest episode that you said to yourself that you had no clue what the result was and you was rooting?
19:31I'll tell you, this was really something. I mean, to this day, it just sticks in my memory. It probably happened 10 years ago. Woman comes on, accuses this guy of being the father of her twins. So as I told you, I didn't know the results. I open up the envelope. He's the father of one, but not the other. Whoa. What the fuck? There you go. This is such a thing. Fraternal twins, not identical twins, but fraternal twins when they don't look alike. Yo, he's the father of one of the babies? Not the other. What happened? These guys went. He didn't know what to do, this guy. He was frozen. I mean, he was like paralyzed.
20:15He knew he was on the hook for one. And I immediately say to the staff, how does this happen? And they said, if a young lady is kind of active at a certain time of the month. Super active. She was getting fucked to death. Like she had twins from two fucking guys. I ran out of flag. You got flags over there, more than you. You got to throw it, more.
20:47Welcome to the show, Maury. You know how they tell you that you never let them give you the results? Well, let me tell you the results of this show. They tell all my guests every time before they come. They say, Joe's going to say some crazy shit. Just throw the fucking flag at them. They give them the... Maury, they don't say, yo, if anyone said, you know, there's two folks. If anyone says something you disagree with, throw the flag. No, it's always Fat Joe's going to say some dumb shit. Throw the flag at them. And Jada is come. Oh, no, he's the ringleader. Come. You know, let me tell you something, Maury Povey.
21:23I'm a gangster, okay? Wow. I'm a gangster, okay? And my reputation, my whole life for authenticity has been unmatched, okay? I have lived up to every type of adversity. I do this show. They don't have one episode with me calling them a liar. No, facial expressions. I can't find you. Facial expressions. Facial expressions.

28:03All we needed was an 800 number. You see, because you don't understand. The New York Times years ago did a big article in the Sunday Magazine. And the article was they took a survey and found out 10 % of all the kids in the country are living with the wrong father. Are living what? With the wrong father, wrong birth father. that's a lot that's a lot no no no it happens a lot oh you say it happened you it happens a lot like a personal so in other words when i first started when you first started to see this thing on the show right you weren't surprised that we were doing things like that no no i'm surprised very surprised why because if you knew this thing was you go on tv and tell somebody i seen one girl go on there like 20 times.
28:57I know Todd is really the father. I know. No, Buck 134 is the father. You kept bringing them back. I know. Yo, for sure you know this time you've been on here, Janice. You've been on here eight times, Janice. That one night Wayne was with me in the back. You are not the father. I knew that bitch was like that. Yo, I mean, this is insanity. That was good TV. And everybody, and the worst part about it to me was when she came back over and over, the audience would boo her. And I got upset because I think she was courageous and brave for coming back on after being embarrassed. Let me tell you something, Maury.
29:40One thing your show made me realize was go to school. Yeah, yeah, not just that. They had some smart guys up there. Not just that. You know, one time, Good friend of mine, Tommy. You know, Tommy Mottola hasn't talked to me since I said that. I know who Tommy Mottola is. He never talked to me again. No, no, I'm not telling the story again. That's how you line me up. I'm not telling Maury Povich the story. Why not? He's telling him a story. I'm telling you, he hasn't called me since. Look, I know Mottola. He was the record guy. Come on. A good friend of mine saved his life. He choked on a pancake.
30:17Don't say no more. He don't want me to say the story. Tommy hasn't called me since. He's my friend for four years. I get a light one. He was doing. I was like, yo, Tommy. Do you need the mouth, the mouth? Do you need the Heimlich? You know, Tom Matola is tough as fuck.
30:40I was like, yo. I'm looking. Because you know Rich is with me. How did he do all that over pancakes? You know Rich got CTE. Rich played football for 30 years. That motherfucker's like, yo, Rich! Rich! I'm looking at Rich! And he's catching one of them CTE shits from the football. I'm like, yo, Rich! Do I have to save this motherfucker? What was Tommy doing? But listen, Tommy ain't... Joe. Tommy ain't fucking with me no more, but listen. Joe, you could do stand-up. No, no. You could really do stand-up. Yo, Maury, listen to what I'm saying. That's why I ain't going to your show. But listen, Tommy Mottola sat me down at my prime, at my prime number one songs in the country on a run of a run.
31:28And he said, I want to do a clothing brand with you for all of the Walmarts. And I got so offended. I said, this shit Gucci. It's a fucking Rolex. You fucking great. You see this shit out. You want me to do Walmart? He was like, and he explained to me, but I was at a very young age that I didn't understand. He said, you know, 99 % of America shop at Walmart. Sure. He said, only 1 % go to Gucci, Louis Vuitton and all that other shit. You could make a killing in Walmart with 99 % of the country. Of course, I was a dumb motherfucker and I walked away and I said, nah, Tommy, I'm not doing that. but your show made me realize 99 % of the country really doesn't know who's the father you let me know cause you can't bring it 31 years yo that's the one thing you do one show one lady she came 10 times think the fuck 31 years listen to shit you know how fucked up this country is so So how about the times, all the times that you saw when, you know, we put the picture of the baby on the screen, right?
32:50You know, always put the picture. And now I've got two black people on there. I got the woman. I got the guy. And this baby is white as can be. I mean, white as can be. And everybody's saying all in my voice. Meanwhile, it ends up, you are the father. Believe it or not That's why I never That's when I stopped That's when I stopped during the episode Trying to figure out whether he was No you gave up For sure you do You the best at over under Family Maybe his grandfather Was Irish You know you are The family What's that new show you come from. You all did for him. Meaning that we come from a DNA of somebody.
33:46Exactly. You know, we come from the grandfather, great grandmother, somebody who's white. You have a kid that come out two times and fell in trouble.
33:58Let me explain. Yeah, it's good. No, it might. My father was dark skinned. I'm in that. It can happen to me. Right? With my Cuban side, We got everybody dark. Listen, you ever seen my brothers? I'm going to show you my brothers from my Cuban side. Cuban brothers. They make you look light-skinned. Okay? These niggas, the darkest. So in other words, you have brothers. Yeah, but my mother was real white like me. Right? So my father's dark-skinned. Right. So I can understand me. But all my brothers, my stepbrothers, they dark-skinned. Listen, I got it in my family. What I'm trying to say to you is, you know what happened to a basketball player?
34:45What happened? What happened? He was not the father. Which one? You heard about that kid? Steve Nash? Oh. Out there. It's not fucking public. It's a thing. I'm asking you, what happened with Steve Nash then? All of a sudden, Steve Nash, the basketball player. He white as hell. His wife just white as hell. When the baby came out, the black baby. That's like a common... One of his teammates on the side. You definitely... When you on a professional level of teams, you got to check... Pushing and carving on the side. One of your teammates might be the father. Stick shift records. I mean, you got to watch dudes that's injured, that's staying back for treatment.
35:25At that point, murder is... At that point, murder is considered, right? No. This is a family show. No. I guess it's more... You know what's the number one, two podcast in Netflix, how do I kill my husband? That's the fucking number two pot. James, can you look up the top five Netflix? I thought you were in the top five. No, no, we in the top five. But I'm saying... That's top two. Who to think about why they want to know how to kill your... Ladies, why you want to know how to kill your fucking husband? My wife watches this Lifetime shit. Oh, no, don't tell me your wife watches. She watches Lifetime every day.
36:03They killing the husband. They killing the husband. They killing the husband. They killing the husband.
36:12Yo, what? They killing the husband. Yo, K. Yo, why you ain't fucking with him? What's wrong? Every shit on Lifetime is running up. Killing the husband. Killing the husband. Killing the husband. For sure, this guy ain't got no more money than me. They trying to figure out the remedy. And your wife is watching this stuff. All day, that shit right now. You know how they give you your phone now and tell you how much time you spend on your phone? Yeah, I know that. You could do that. It's terrible. If my TV said how long my channel's on, I'm killing my husband? Yo. That shit on there all day. Jada, you have to listen to this a lot.
36:52Huh? He loves that shit. I'm learning how to... I'm switching it. Like, I'm using it as fuel. Trying to. Break that down. I'm making it where it doesn't affect me the same way it affects others. Oh. So this is what I heard about you, Joe. You own 3 ,000 sneakers? There's a good possibility. At least. There's a good possibility. It's out of control. I mean, that should be in a museum. Yeah, my shit is like a museum. I mean, what are you going to do with all that? Not only that. Where do you have it? In a storage area. Don't want to say. Okay. Don't want to say. It's definitely air conditioned. But.
37:40Has any of them ever rotted out? Yeah. They have. Yeah. I've done shows, tours, where I'm like the mellow yellow and blue joints that he had back. I'd wear that shit on stage. My whole foot flew through the fucking sneaker on stage. I did the whole show on socks. You got to know it's only rubber and glue, boy. Yeah. Anytime they, sometimes they just fall apart. You know, a promoter one is time. He like, yo, I need an hour. That shit flew off like with 20 minutes. I had to do the whole number 40 minutes in the sock.
38:15I'm scared the way I'm on the air. And Jada, I hear you're becoming a documentarian. You're doing a documentary on locks. Yeah, yeah, we got invited to the Tribeca Film Festival. Wow. Well, I'll tell you, one of the co-founders of that, of the festival, is a friend of mine. Her name is Jane Rosenthal. Put it a good word for us. More than you need that, baby. I will. Damn right. Appreciate it. So you're up for the big festival? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're getting ready, getting geared up, making sure everything is right. Leave the rest in God's hands. I'd call De Niro, but I don't know him. I'm shocked you don't know, Bobby.
38:57I don't know. I met him once, but briefly. Yeah, I met him a couple of times. School? He was with... To tell you... No, no, no, no. Bobby De Niro can't do no wrong in my eyes, but his ex-wife was cooler. Grace. And sometimes I went to Noble where she just covered the bill. You know, they own Noble. Yeah, they're one of the founders of Noble. So it's a couple of times I went to eat dinner at Noble and it was like, tech paid for Bobby De Niro's wife, you know, when she was with him. Who was that, Grace? Grace, yeah. She paid for the bill a couple of times. Shout out to Grace. Shout out to Grace.
39:37But Bobby De Niro, that's Al Pacino, Bobby De Niro, they and Joe Pesci, they and Elaine. Joe and I knew each other. You knew Joe? Oh, Joe's the best. Joe's the best. Joe's the best. We did a show on Carbone, with Mario Carbone. They said he went up in there and made his own recipe. Oh, yeah. I want the chicken with the lemon dish and cook searing. And in three minutes, you put on that, like, he told me. His martini shook him some more, man. He was in there giving specific orders. You know, Joe Pesci, man, legendary. Who are some of the biggest legends that you've come across that you said, wow?
40:19Like, I mean, that line, I guess. I mean, I'm so old, I keep forgetting shit. Well, I'm that old because I forget all the time. No, I mean, but I'll tell you, Pesci used to tell me, I think this is a story. De Niro basically got him the job in the Rocky Graziano movie, the boxing movie. What a fuck. Raging Bull. What a movie. You ever seen Raging Bull? And he played Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. What a fucking movie. and Pesci played his brother. And Joe said that he had done something that maybe De Niro had seen, but at the time he was working a bar or a restaurant in Jersey. And all of a sudden he gets this phone call that Scorsese wants to see him because De Niro remembered him.
41:10And so that's how he started his whole career. I got a kid like that, right? I got a kid, the building I live in in Miami, this motherfucker, I come outside, young Spanish kid. He got the fucking head. He's the doorman. I see him, I be like, you could be a fucking star. He's like, Joe, I mean, you got to do movies. He said he never even thought of acting. You look at this kid. He look like Benicio Dottorio. I said, boom. No, no. Listen how shit happens, right? I go, shout out to Harborview. They put together an event. and I'm sitting next to a guy who puts out movies, and in the middle of the panel, I'm like, yo, I know a guy.
41:58Fucking, he'll be the star of your movie. You got the fucking head, it's young Spanish. That's how it happens. So if he would have said, followed up and said, Fat Joe, who's the kid? And the kid would have worked out. It can happen like that, bro. Don't you think you had a break? Didn't somebody give you a break? Well, yeah, of course, but I wouldn't. Didn't somebody give you a break, Jada? I went to the Apollo Theater. There's always somebody. Yeah. I went to the Apollo Theater. Shout out Diamond D. He gave me my break. And I went to Amateur Night at the Apollo, and I won four weeks in a row.
42:34That's how I got my start. So everybody around me started becoming a rapper and successful, and that was just like, I got to do it too. So I went to the Apollo Theater. How about you, Jada? You got a guy? You got somebody? The man upstairs. Uh-huh. Took a lot of hard work, a lot of doors being closed. You know what I mean? But finally, he was able to make it happen. He's still closing the doors, though. Really? He met a guy. He knows a guy. He was the cousin to Mary J. Blige. They're from the same town. Oh, wow. So he gave her the demo and she went downtown and handed it over. Correct? Somewhat.
43:26I could write your fucking biography. Somewhat on the terms of. I'm almost there, huh? Mary J, I would say, though, Mary J is one of the key factors for helping this game. Probably the most important. Talk about talent. I'm going out there. You going to Vegas? I'm out there. For her residency. You're going out there. Oh, she has a residency in Vegas. You're going to watch it or you're going to be... I'm going to enjoy... Nobody lets me enjoy shit. Keith Sweat got a show coming up and I'm like, all right, the minute I walk in, Fat Joe performing live. I can't even go to a show. I went to... They bring you up.
44:08I want... Everybody. I was in Charlotte. When I say... Listen. Every human being And I'm a show. I want to go to the show. I went to a comedy show. I thought I was out of town. I did what I had to do. The comedy show's there. Man, I'm going to go enjoy the comedy show. For some reason, I knew it wasn't going to work. I get there. Mike Abs, I'm there. I'm on his side. I said, this is too good to be true. I'm not going to lie. Ten minutes, this guy come. Mike Abs wants you in the back. Let me go see Mike What's up Mike? Oh it's Stephanie Mills birthday We got Anthony Hamilton He was thinking perhaps you can do Y And then God damn it I just want to watch the show I don't want to I purchased the tickets and they still Tap me like him Joe And you gotta work for free It's not even about working for free I'm going there with the spectators Let me tell you something.
45:14The greatest, some of the greatest, I won't say the greatest, but they're in that fucking conversation of GOATS, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They made some of the greatest songs ever heard in Man Canso. He's having like a Q &A with how he became and how this, this and that. And I go sneak in there, right? Down here, City Winery, beautiful venue. everybody's in there, and I'm just chilling. And sure enough, the light just came. Bam, bam, bam, bam. They tapped me. The mic is, your man playing the piano. I said, yo. Those are like extorted performances. Those are extorted performances. You ain't got no choice.
46:06But I love them, and I'm glad he thought of me. but I'm just saying it's just, it'll happen anyway. I go to a birthday party. I go anywhere. It turns into any wedding bar mitzvah I go to. I know they're going to try to, here's the mic, Joe. I mean, that's how it is. It's like a, it's like a double-edged sword. It's a good, it's a good thing that can get annoying. It's a good feeling. It's a good feeling. Yeah. It's a good feeling. You know, when I look at people like, When I look at Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, these are artists 80 years old, and they're still touching that stage every night.
46:48And I'm watching them. They just love the feeling. I don't think it's so much financially no more. I think it's like they love Smokey Robinson, and they come out and be singing their songs. It makes them feel alive. Sure. I tell you, one of my finest moments, years and years ago, I had the four tops on a local TV show that I used to do. And they had such a good time. They anointed me the fifth top. Ah!
47:23Team Mark, what's up, brother? Damn, man. You know them nicks, man. Joe. Joe, are we going to talk about the Knicks now? No, no, no, we're not going to talk about the Knicks now. Who are you a fan of? Well, believe it or not, I'm a Knicks fan. But I have, there's a caveat to that. My godson is the assistant basketball coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wow. So I kind of root for them too. Thankfully, they're in the West. Did you think they was going to win? You ain't think they was going to win. But I'll tell you, Anthony Edwards is a big star. The truth. Listen guys Anthony Edwards You don't think so Bug it Bug it twin Anthony Edwards is the real deal Anthony Edwards has everything it takes To be an elite He has everything But we don't talk about MVP Top 5 Anthony Edwards Because the only reason Why is He's not aggressive enough Like Jalen Brunson ain't in the MVP conversation, but he going to shoot every ball.
48:34Anthony Edwards actually throws it around. He's not aggressive enough. If you guys think he's aggressive, he needs to be more aggressive. Flag on the play. Oh, no. I see him driving. Anthony Edwards drives to that hoop all the time. Yeah, nah, not enough. Edwards won a game this year where the coach specifically told you to shoot. And he shot it and won. He told press conference. He told them, I don't pass it. I had to win it. If that ain't aggressive enough. The coach said, pass it to crap. How about I want him more aggressive. Mikel Bridges on the New York Knicks. They gave up five first round round picks.
49:22We might not even get Giannis because we gave up all our picks for him. I feel like the man coasts. I feel like he's not aggressive enough. I think he's talented enough to score more. He's just not aggressive. There's some of these guys, some days they're super aggressive. Some days they're not. I want Anthony Edwards to be like that every game. I want him to be aggressive and attack. Now, at that point, he's a go. Yeah, but everybody in town wants Cat to be more aggressive than he is. They don't give him the ball. I disagree with all these people. I disagree with all these people. Atlanta beat us this whole year.
50:03The one game we beat them, they gave the ball. And Carl Anthony Town is actually the antidote to beating Atlanta. Give him the fucking ball. He's sitting there and they're coming down 36 times. and they won't give the man the ball. Oh, my gosh. I thought Spike. Mike Brown's your neighbor. Go to his house and tell him. I can't. He's still wearing them funny shoes. I thought Spike was the biggest fan. He knows, too. He watches the show. Mike Brown, man, such a great guy. I love the coach. But he wears them funny shoes, man. I tell him all the time. I say, yo, one day, one day he wore Air Max. We won by 40.
50:45I said, it's the fucking sneakers, coach. It's the fucking, the same bullshit they got on with no soul. You can tell from far away what sneaks somebody. Oh, no, I can super tell. And your man, Alvarado, I don't know what kind of deal. He got a stock. He got AM1s on. And then he got the AM1s on. Like, yo, like, I love him to death. He's Puerto Rican from Brooklyn. I love him. What is he doing with them shits on, man? The AM1s. Will that scare you if you're going up against Alvarado and he got the and ones on?

55:23By the way, do you know Jordan? Have you met Jordan? We were the guy. Come on. Yeah, I guess. We know. We was hanging out. We went to NASCAR with him a few. Oh, you did? Recently? He and I go back. Hey, Jordan, you and Michael Jordan? Oh, yeah. Tell me something about MJ. Michael's the best. You know, he used to have a golf tournament. He invited me every, and I played in his golf tournament. And my wife had the famous interview in The Last Dance where my wife asked him about gambling. And he said, and she said, you know, do you have a problem? And he said, MJ's answers are unreal. No, I don't have a problem with gambling.
56:07I'm a very competitive guy. I consider that just another part of competition. That's what he's doing in NASCAR right now. Right. By the way, if you talk to anybody who ever played with him or against him, he was the most competitive guy in everything. Cards. He still is right now. The guy's a NASCAR. He's taking on the whole league. I know. They sued him. He went to court, beat him. He don't get, yo, yo. He's too dumb. He's too dumb and won. Yes. But the whole point is he's in a place where he's defying all odds. And he loves it, loves it, loves it. And people don't realize he's from Carolina.
56:49And so he grew up as a NASCAR fan with his father. That's what he's telling us. He told us that he grew up, he loves NASCAR. Right. You know, he told me, yo, this is my thing right here. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, Michael and I go, My wife and I were lucky enough to be at the game when he came back to the garden after being out of the league and scored 55. Double nickel. Uncle Dan, you saw him. He was a double nickel. He was a double nickel. Right under the basket. Wow. And Magic was there. Magic, by the way, loves my wife. They go all the way back when she used to anchor in L.A. And they used to go to the Waffle House.
57:33have chicken and waffles. Let me ask you a question. Yeah. And I ask everybody that. Don't get offended. Sure. Because right in that seat, you mentioned Cardi B was in that seat. Yeah. But also, Rich Paul was in there. Oh, really? Rich Paul got a deal. Jermaine Dupri used to go with Janet Jackson. How do you get Kitey Tom? Not Kitey Tom. Whoa. Connie Chung. Whoa. Connie Chung. Connie Chung. Flag on the plate. Oh, no, no. Yo. Yo, listen, Maury. Maury, I fuck everybody. I know your wife. I fuck everybody's name up. Here's the thing. I fuck everybody's name up. Joe, you're not far off, okay? Kylie Tong, Channel 11 New York, and Connie Chung, my wife, grew up together in D.C.
58:21Two different ones. I know his wife. You're not listening to me. I get everybody's name wrong. Why you ain't defending me right now? Because you said the right person. Why you ain't like, listen, Maury. he fucks up the names all the time. The point is, how does Maury Povic approach to her and says, hey, what was that? We were in the business together. I got a divorce. I was working in LA. She was working in LA and she kind of took pity on me when I got fired. And so I got fired at this gig. You ever been fired? Yeah, I've been fired my whole life. And so we started to date. Okay. And we dated seven and a half years on and off while she was messing with all the Hollywood swells.
59:13And I was, you know, dating people. She said I couldn't even remember the first names of. You know, I hate to make reference to it at the same time because this is your time. But, you know, one day I'm in Chicago and I run into Jerry Springer. Sure. And there's a, there's a, you know, every town got a diner that everybody go to after the club. He was sitting back there with like 10 joints. Oh, no question. Jerry Springer, four in the morning. Oh yeah. He had the dairies with him. Oh yeah. He was, and it looked like, hey Jerry. Jerry. He was a regular in the diner. Everybody was like, hey Jerry, hi Kyle.
59:51Jerry liked the girls. I'm telling you, the one time I seen him, he's sitting in the back of the diner with a hood. Everybody go. He got the theories with him. And he's like, yo, what's up, Jimmy? Spot was all right tonight. He was a dear friend of mine. We started together same year, 91. Wow. Class of 91. Ain't that something, man? Well, you know the 90s for crying out loud. I am the 90s. No, I am the 90s. What do you want me to do? That's the way I come from, the class of 93. Plus, Joe rants about his wife watching Lifetime killing-your-husband content on a loop, Jadakiss announces The LOX’s documentary is headed to the Tribeca Film Festival, and some fiery NBA debates break out surrounding Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards.
