Every show legendary. every show iconic and we haven't failed you yet and we will never fail you or never let you down ladies and gentlemen please make some noise today for our brother you know what I mean DMV's home DMV's home heavy in the sports heavy in the sneakers he makes hits he had features with some of the most incredible people I'm gonna ask him about in a minute You know what I mean? He gets on his shit every now and then. You might get a rant. You might get... You're always going to see him.
3:51You're always going to hear him. He's always lit. He's always relevant. Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for our brother, Wale.
4:01How do you like that intro? I love that shit. No doubt. You know, DMV's a very spiritual place for me. You know what I'm saying? In my whole career. You went to church down there a lot? but BET was in I got a crazy anecdote about DC I started Howard University the how can I be down and all that shit over there BET was based out of DMV so I would train down there to do all teams everything the whole BET was in fucking DC so you had to go to DC and we was out there so much because they do all the events out there that I learned so much about DMV coaching, man, but what's up, Wale? Man, man, we happy to have you here, brother.
4:44It's good to be here. It's for real because it's like, you know, you probably hear this all the time. A lot of the guys grew up listening to me. Now we like about to answer questions by y 'all. Like, that's a little... He might have crazy questions. I mean, it kind of drops some seeds about some things you're going to come at. That's more than the convo. But my thing is, you know, I woke up this morning. My outfit wasn't so premeditated. But my young boy UFO Thief hit me up and said, you know why I lay coming? I said, I know. He said, well, you got to throw something on your feet. Crazy. And I said, you know why I lay my...
5:25I don't think he wanted... I don't think we doing that, but I went and premeditated the outfit and brought out the TS. It's about 20-something years old. Yeah. Just for the culture. You know what I'm saying? because we salute you so much as a sneaker giant. What got you into sneakers? And are you still currently, do you have the passion for the sneaker gang? I think this culture, like all of us, wherever you're from, if you was black, you was on sneakers. You know what I'm saying? And now we didn't really have money until I was like maybe like in high school. And then when I started working, I just started collecting and collecting.
6:00And then, you know how I go? Like any other hobby, you just collect. And as far as now, I don't really got a passion like I used to. It's a little bit like stepped on like the whole shit burnt out for real. Like it's just everything. Not what it used to be. Nah. But they making some good designs but it's not. So like I'm on the whole like I get clearance rack shit and just pop it off. Like these is on clearance. Like remember these came out on time ago. I'm on it like that. I wear whatever. I like it. Yeah I like that though. Yeah. I like it. Like I'm saying. I'm going to go over there. And I still got joints like without like where the Reggie Miller is at everybody on dunks now like we was doing that we was doing that you know what I'm saying so I'm on hoop shoes I wear what I want and I'm AEs I got one more question before my business partner takes off with the intelligent question this is the wise and telling the God wise intelligence over here here we go aka the Notary Republic but check this shit out man sad day yesterday DMV's on D 'Angelo did you know what he mean to you coming out of the DMV you know what I'm saying well that's more southern Virginia but um you know it's DMV nonetheless but I just think what he meant to hip hop the voodoo sound is like a lot of go-go bands was inspired by that album you know what I'm saying like a lot of people like you know what I'm saying and he just represented a certain type of black man like you know what I'm saying in that era like you feel I came out with that six pack losing weight.
7:35I lost two Fat Joes. Yo! I said, yo, I know how to get in shape. That shit was unreal, right? That motherfucker. Two Fat Joes. I mean, he was left after he lost two. I got one left. Oh, all right. It was three Fat Joes. All right. I'm telling y 'all. But D 'Angelo, man, And shout out to Cool and Dre. It's our brother. That's our brother right there. Dre, Dre. I talked to Dre last night. That's his favorite. He was fucked up yesterday. He was so sad. You know, everybody got their favorite. Oh, D 'Angelo. It was Dre's favorite. Oh, no, that's it. There's nobody better. Dre is. D 'Angelo for Dre.
8:17Yesterday, I was talking to him, and I seen him fucked up in the face. I was like, yo, Dre, I'm on a FaceTime. He was like, yeah, you know this. It wasn't the same Dre. You know, he lost this hero. You know, D 'Angelo meant a lot. You know, Angie Stone, one of the first rappers. Yeah. Angie B. It turned into Rest in Peace. You didn't know that? No, Angie Stone. She might be first or second. Second rapper. Sha Rock is first. Sha Rock is first. She was a dead-ass second rapper in America. Damn. And then she came back years later with the - She wrote some songs for Sugar Hill and all of them. I'm telling you, she was there at the inception.
8:52She was Angie B. before Angie Stone. She was at the inception. Kiss. you come with the super energetic questions we just kicking it we got a new project coming tell us about what's going on with that what's called everything is a lot yeah like I ain't dropping in four years like I had to you know I changed management my contract was out with NMG like had to figure out a couple things and you know the industry like about 70 % of the people got laid off in the past four years so just trying to figure everything out And it's really about everything that's been happening from my last album to now, like, with me.
9:33Like, in my mind and my surrounding. I like that. Yeah. Tour? You got a tour with it? You know, we tour every album, so. Yeah. You stay on the road when you drop something. Any crazy features? I ain't listen to it. Well, I listened to that. I didn't want to listen to it, then it erased on me because I was trying to get... Nah, they definitely got the, you can't rewind. That was my note on the joint. That was your note? They said that. Test it, man, like you do on the block, man. Tina sent that shit to me. She said he's on tomorrow. How about this? I never did this for no other guests, no other nothing.
10:07I think so. I think so, too. You think I'm lying? No, I was talking about something else. Oh, no, no, no. Ain't no capping this. I sat down. I'll tell you your whole album. The intro's bananas. The first joint, that's the, If you really, really want it, oh, you got to do it. That's that shit with him. Get up on it. Oh, shit. Shout out Keith Sweat. He wrote that. And I know he wrote it. I saw the motherfucker. I saw who you paid, y 'all. I said, damn, you got me twisted over you. For real. Yo, Keith Sweat is a business, man. Yeah, no, for real. I know. over the first new... Thank you. Thank you to the lawyers that have...
10:55Street Runners made that jump. Street Runners, get at me. But the crazy thing is, it sounded so different when you first sent me that jump. You heard that? He said... I started Street Runners. You can't throw that. Don't do that. You're going to play yourself. He might, though. He might have... He might be right about that because I know that circle. That circle is talent. Nah, he might got that one. But... Street Runner TS, man. Yeah, this is the same game. It's close enough. It's close enough. I ain't going to argue on that one. He got some more coming. Don't worry. You might got that one. That's the first time we...
11:33I'm going to let you get... I'm going to let you... I started Street Runner... Black pullback. I'm giving them... Okay, they want you to go. I started Street Runner. I started Chris Robinson. I started Jesse Terrero. I started... You're saying you started People's Name? I just throw something easy cool and drink too early premature cool and drink I started Caled I started Miami I started I started fuck yeah I started Wale man I started Howard see but you know what about Wale I always figured Wale for a nice guy he's actually he knows how to throw shots you see we started he was like yeah, Miami rappers.
12:18And that's the shit Jada's famous for in the verses. All these New York guys in Miami. I said, damn. No, when I said Miami, I'm talking about, you know, I got y 'all, y 'all get money. Y 'all do y 'all Miami shit. I know who you be with in Miami, man. Y 'all like the big, y 'all like y 'all talk shit too. That intro was crazy. Yeah. You made an album like I would love to make an album. For some reason, they stereo cast us rappers. It's just like, man, it ain't no different than what you do. It ain't no different. But you went in there, you fucked a lot with the Afro beats. Is you African or African-American?
12:56I wouldn't even consider none of them beats Afro beats, for real. They kind of like... I'm asking you a question. Is you African-American or are you African? Is that... I'm African. We are African. Yes. But I'm just saying, the way you flowed on them African beats was almost like you from Nigeria. Not from Washington. I'm telling you the truth. You know what you did on that shit? My parents met at the University of D.C. and they both came into America like in the early 80s. That's fired. Oh, so that's how it happened because you sounded really authentic. See, I never did reggaeton because I'm like a New York Puerto Rican.
13:39And it would have sounded like Joe's trying to do that shit and he don't sound right. Right. You did it right. So in the middle of your album, I'm saying to myself, yo, it's Wale African. I'm the one who always say everybody African. Don't do that shit to me. I'm just telling you, you sounded African on this shit. My full name is Oluwale. That's a Nigerian. Oh, this the fuck I'm talking about. I think everybody... Where is you at? You don't know this? Yeah. I didn't know. He was too busy making street runners, man. Yo, you crazy. It was too busy. You made all those people. I'm sure you don't know what the fuck this thing is.
14:17I was like, outside Jamaican people factory, you don't know what's going on. But yeah, I'm Nigerian. I was born and actually born. That's what I'm talking about. And that came out on this album. Yeah. And done perfect. Done incredible. Thank you. You know what I'm saying? I love this album. I felt like it was a time that you could have been authentic with yourself. What that album feels like to me. You did what you love to do. And the shit fired. Right. I want to ask you about the song you did that you got Rihanna on that's what I was about to start asking about some of those features that one's a serious one he got some incredible fucking features in your life for your career no you are charming facts aha don't tell him that no made up shit Don't tell him that.
25:26I got songs with Jadakiss. He came to the studio with me. Yeah. He's been in D-Block studio next to me. No email. Jadakiss, man, you're a great rapper, man. We talking about him. Nah, we going to be. I don't want to talk about him. Let me tell you about the time I made Jadakiss. Oh, shit. I was somewhere in Yonkers. Oh, yo, yo! It was a dark cold night in Yonkers. I, um, nah, the joke was right up. Like, she just, I met her, like, a long time ago, like, before I was even, I was still in school for real. It was right around the time I dropped out. I was on tour with Mark. And, like, I think backstage at Glastonbury, there wasn't too many, like, black people.
26:05Like, so we just got cooled in. And then I started, like, you know, getting bigger and bigger. And then I remember, like, it getting back to me. This is my third album now. And I'm on Roc Nation, so, you know, J. Bryan and the whole thing. She was like, I want to get on a song. She said that. Yeah, and then, I mean, then I had to, like, I remember, like, she kept going to the club, like, every other night. And I was like, one of these nights, we're going to the studio soon. And the day that she was ready, I said, bro, everybody get the fuck out. Like, yo, what y 'all want to eat? That was like McDonald's.
26:36I was like, oh, cool. Had some J's. So I, like, getting a vibe, and then she just did it. And then I think we ended up, like, I tried to get, like, a different beat because I really wanted a real remix. Let me ask you a question. How did you feel when she jumped in the SUV, I'm presuming, she left and you had Rihanna's vocals on your song? Like, what did that? I hope this shit get cleared. That's a fact. It ain't over. It ain't over. It ain't over. It ain't over. It's not done yet. Shit. You got to see it. I know some artists right now that they love to go to nigga sessions and hear their new shit, drop them, give them two verses, and then clear.
27:18Don't clear that. Kanye did that to me. No, I had to deal with that a lot of times. He did that to me. He did that to me. I don't even know how it happened. But when I was out there writing for him, like, and this was Paris. This was a long time ago. For who? Kanye. Okay. And then I remember, like, I wanted him on this song I had called Girls on Drugs. And he was like, no, no, no. You know how you get it. Like, no, no, no. This is the one. And then he played me this song. And Todd Dallas and I was on it. And he was like, this is go-go shit, right? I'm like, Gogo don't sound nothing like that. But I get it.

27:52It's going to be Kanye West. So I did this song. I didn't really like this song for real. I mean, it wasn't fucking with nothing on my album, but it's Kanye. So I let it ride and shit like that. He's like, yeah, you should put on the album. I'm like, fuck it. Having A on the album, I can't hurt. I don't like the song. So when it came time to, what's his name? The label on now, Def Jam, they wouldn't quit. They said Kanye wouldn't quit. And I'm like, what the fuck was that? and then he got mad at me a little bit later down the road like I don't think you'll appreciate I gave you like a big one of your biggest songs ever and I'm like damn man I ain't even clear the gun like shit ain't even nah he deluge shit ain't over till it's over with these clearances man my favorite rapper but he deluge he's definitely definitely an inspiration to my whole shit what's up oh no I just fired for the state and not want to Paris for that wait till I tell you the Kanye story but get ahead this might be for another how the hell did you meet Jerry Seinfeld?
28:48I was just always an outside nigga. I just was a kind of different nigga. I had different interests. We all hang together or whatever. But I used to just watch different shit. And I remember I had an injury and I couldn't do shit for a while. And I had them joints on DVD and I was just watching them joints and I was like, man, there's a lot of psychology in this shit. And then I just made a mixtape around that when I was still living in my mother's crib. And I was like, I don't know if they going to understand it, but I put it out and it just kind of caught. And I did part two, right, before I signed the Interscope.
29:20And I think right before I did part two, it got, he caught wind of the mixtape and then he had a show in Baltimore and he wanted to meet me. Wow. Now, how the hell did the Usher join? That's one of my favorite songs in the world, by the way. Appreciate it, man. You know, I do say I'm one of the biggest rappers that don't have a main producer. And I kind of think so, because all my songs might hit somebody else. And I remember one day, J1 was like, man. By the way, I don't want to, that's an art, to be able to work with different producers and make hit records with different producers. A lot of guys just got one guy who give them that sauce.
29:55It's actually hard to leave somebody you just made a hit with to fuck with another producer and get a hit from them. Sorry for cutting you off, but that's very important. I wish I could do that more. I'm like more of an introvert now. I become more, because I know too much, so I just don't be really around nobody. But like J1 was like, man, this is around the time I was like three years in a row I had like the number one most played on urban radio song three years so Jake 1 made a joke he was like man I want to do one of those with you I was like what's gonna be like that man I just started finishing together and then me and Sam do put that hook down and then niggas was like yo Usher would sound great on it didn't overthink it Usher did it yeah and cleared the man Usher never did shit for me man yo Usher You owe me about 100 favors.
30:46What? Usher, I need a taste, man. Yo, Usher, I've been chasing you for my whole career. Man, Usher might think I'm whack, man. I ain't going to lie. Chase Usher. Plenty of time. He's a guy. I consider him my friend. He on skates now, man. You can't catch up. Can't catch up now. You go to Usher's show, bro. I'm in Vegas. I had a show. I think, what's the club? Drey's. Drey's, man. and I fucked around and told Natina, give me some tickets to Usher. I fucked around. I sat in them seats for two minutes. Then it was the Fat Joe Greatest Hits, 10 records in a row. Usher had me performing. 10 fucking records, out of breath, sweating bullets, ripping the place down.
31:30I mean, you get an Usher ticket, it's coming with some free songs. He made you earn... You're performing last. You made you earn them joints. I can't lie. He came to my show after. he came to Dre's and hung out with me and that was against his contract he couldn't really but man Usher you owe me sneakers you owe me all type of shit no Usher owe me Usher owe you sneakers Usher owes me sneakers Usher had me perform Usher buying them Rick Owen Jones he had me perform at his his god daughter's Sweet 16 Fat Joe greatest hits and he looked me in my eyes and said yo I got you with the Jordans that motherfucker been skating for me forever He has Jordan Connect anymore than you would.
32:12No, I know ushers. He just want a pair that they made for us, you know. Yeah, I want that. He like the USACR joints? I want this. You want them to say confessions on his app? I want this to say sample. I want that shit to say sample. You see what I'm saying? Y 'all got the camera? I want the ushers to say sample. You need something exclusive from ushers. Yes. I didn't even know he had any. They got him ain't got no holes on my socks. You know what I'm saying? Oh, no, he got him. They made him some for taking him some shit. He made one for his wedding or some shit. Oh, that's like the I could call MJ myself.
32:50No, no, he got it. He got exclusive. They like for us, you know. I can't see you with a pair of his joints. Yeah, he got horse. He got threes. No, they be dazzled up, though. They got shit on them. That's the Justin Timberlake's, them shits. on like. Watch your way inside. You don't care. You just want to say I'm care. You want them going to say I'm one of them. I mean, I watch The Aviator, so I know everything Leonardo DiCaprio has allowed me to know about him. But incredible innovator. Right. She says he's a, quote, very strange man. But they do get along really well. Give us examples. I know. They do get along intellectually. And in fact, she helps him design a faster plane. She takes a look at what he's designed. It's got these square wings. And she's like, that doesn't make sense. And so she finds the fastest bird and the fastest fish and sketches out a drawing of like what the two would look like as a plane.
38:38And that becomes the plane that we know today. And he calls her a genius. Check out our new episode spotlighting groundbreaking innovators like Hedy Lamarr and Billie Jean King. Presented by the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Goodbye.
38:53Football season. You play football. Yeah. What was your, you aspired to make it to the NFL? Yeah, everybody thought they was going to the league when we were little. But, shit, my first day of camp in college, because I was recruited as a wide receiver because I was playing running back my whole life, but I was too small to play running back in college. But then I seen them Florida niggas running routes. The first day, I said, all right, let me come back to running back. So I had to work my way back up that jump because I was not running like that. Yeah, and then I got kicked out by Robert Morris.
39:29Shout out my man Freezy out there in Miami They kicked him out of Robin Morris I know y 'all caught the vapors man Coach Joe Walton He used to coach the Jets That was my coach Then I transferred to Virginia State And I was getting to it out there You know the thing about living in Miami Your shit be 120 degrees They got the fucking Equipment on 120 I learned more about football Spending two weeks in Carroll City my freshman year of college than I did the whole first season at Rob Moore. I learned more about football and Carroll City. Yeah, I'm the only guy that ever played but got thrown out the park.
40:09Rich Blair used to play and they penalized him for 15 yards and then they took away another 15 yards. You can bring Rich in here if I'm lying. They made me get the fuck out the park. The referee, I'm like, you footlocker? I was going bad out there. The most dangerous fan is the women out there You know, the women shit. Man, the women used to go, yeah, Joe, this one. They start taking them yards. It was like, get the fuck out, crack. I was costing them a game. I kept going crazy out there. But Florida, different thing with the football, bro. Who's your team in NFL? Well, NFL, I'll tell you, I'm a bandwagon.
40:45I'm Kansas City Chiefs. You don't know. How long have you been in Kansas City for? Couple of years since they been winning. Since Chavez, since Chavez, since Chavez, since Chavez Kelsey did the joint. hello but in basketball it's Knicks you ain't budging on that no no I can't do nothing I feel like if the Giants was like doing better like you you gonna come in with Josh and Doc go there for no reason Doc man I remember you from when yo Doc me and your pops remember I paid for your top words what do you mean I got my I've been around yo I've been around too long to get suckered by the Giants and Jets I've been around too long and Miami ain't happening Miami Dolphins, I lived in Miami 20-some years.
41:29I watched them get their ass whipped every week. That shit on the TV, 21 to 7. Like, one thing I do know is them guys ain't winning. At least I had the heat for a while. I'm not going to go in nowhere. What about the heat? I had the heat for the heat. You wasn't going anywhere. I'm always been a Knicks fan. You know, in solidarity with the heat. You know, I was in the studio. You've been in the studio too many times with them cursing me out every night for fucking years. the Knicks sucked the Heat was winning chips do you know the type of verbal abuse these guys were giving me it's an hour to two you go to the studio 7 o 'clock you talk shit for two hours guess what was the two hours y 'all niggas it's trash this this that y 'all I mean it's great they now play me on the 2k and bust my ass with the Heat on the Knicks like it's just disrespect for many years we go through that with Redskins commanders or like there's a lot of I remember I remember Hovius would be Jonah all the time cause he's a Cowboys fan we ain't had nothing to brag about in a long time so I get it that's what I'm saying and your your Washington your basketball team ain't nothing to brag about either huh the motherfucker the last thing y 'all had was John Warren huh yeah man shout out to John we gonna be alright soon though yeah yeah trust the process yeah they look they look pause lengthy they look like you got you got more better than that vocabulary oh they got hot whoa whoa no they don't what you call that when they get the fuck out of here man you know what the fuck I'm talking about them boys he was animating he was animating something he was animating something crazy I take that that nigga was describing this shit ayy you with corporate porn supposed to be you as a basketball fan I'm feeling real good right here yeah you got I think we went in the chair don't get two don't get two nah nah we went in the chair I mean somebody tell me I want you to know that.
43:24Pay off Pablo T. All of America. All over the world. They're talking about secret money though, Joe. Huh? Huh? They're talking about the secret money in the NBA with these contracts and all of that. They say that they coming for the Knicks. That's what I heard. That's the rumor? That's what they say? Man, they can do whatever they want, man. It's our time. See, it's our niggas. Now, once we get our time, they want to come and start fucking corruption. Nah, the Clippers started it, but y 'all gonna finish your problem. You see how they swept that Clippers shit under the rug? They're going to make the Knicks a big deal.
43:55They're going to blow our job. We want a fat joke on every nigga he made. I don't give a fuck what they do. I'm telling you that our bench is stacked up. Our starting five is phenom. You know what people... I'm telling y 'all. People from other countries, the American Americans, that's how... I'm telling you the truth. Listen to what I'm saying. He always gets mad at me. Illusion. I get it. I get it. You're passionate about the Knicks. We delusional? No, you are. No, we're winning the chip this year. That's what I'm trying to tell you. You going to step out there and say that? I know so. All right.
44:29What I'm trying to tell you is basketball is my life, guys. We can tell. Basketball is my life. How often do you get out there? He always says, Rucker ain't NBA, Joe. But what I can tell you is them six championships I won at the Rucker, we were stacked from 1 to 15. the Knicks have a bench and they got a starting five nobody's gonna stop us this year y 'all gonna see I have a hot sauce in on them that the Knicks gonna be good because you know how to coach I'm not saying that what I am yeah what I'm saying to you that's all I'm telling NBA was stacked sorry for everybody else I root for the Knicks too because I got a lot we don't have nothing to root for most of the time in basketball I get it I get it but That might be too big of a thing.
45:21No, I'm telling you. It's a reach. It's a reach. It's now or never. Boston fell apart. Every team, if Boston fell apart, they got with everybody. It's still going to be a little tough. They're going to be, all right. They're not going to beat us. And when they had everybody, we beat them last year. Everybody said, look, this is a Knicks walk in the park. See, that's where you're going. I'm telling you. That's where the studio audience, y 'all should be supposed to win. Ooh. No, no. You can't say that. I'm telling you. Lack of rheumatology. With health, with good health, nobody's beating us. I'm telling you, we're going to win this shit.
45:59We're going to fuck around with OKC. And we just got to, you know, we got to rough them up a little. OK. You know what I mean? Big and rough about. I seen you with tips. What's up with them? You might not want to know, man. I want to know. The people want to know. I want to buy that shit, right? I was in Louis. Tibbs was in Louis. You was in Louis. And you ain't know I was across the street in Bird Off. So you was like, yo, Joe, you in Louis? Because I caused that. That's where Tibbs was at? Tibbs was over there. In Bird Off? By the way, Tibbs is mad. But I realized Tibbs walked away with$30 million.
46:38Tibbs is off, dog. One thing about Tibbs, he's off. What kind of shit is this? That's crazy. I am. I hate myself. They gonna do Belichick like that, too. What do we gotta do? I gotta go to Mongolia to make a fucking dollar. They gonna give them the same thing. I gotta go to Mongolia. I gotta get booked at some shows where the niggas is like, yo, be careful. The gang members came in there with the guns to make a dollar. These motherfuckers make $30 million on the walkout. Why you not mad like me, man? Ain't got nothing to do with that man business, man. Well, Tim said, I told him to come on the podcast.
47:23You know, I love him. He said, hell no. And he said, yes. What? He said, I'm going to get your number. I said, yo, just ask Worldwide West. He said, West? Oh, won't be talking to him no time soon. Yeah, they said. You should have knew that. You should have told me. I'm not going to be fired him with$30 million on the walkout. Yeah. He want a coach, man. Yeah, he want a coach to make a dicks play 58-year-old. Worldwide West lives across the street from me. I seen him yesterday walking, exercising. I told him what Tim said. He said, man. That's my guy, man. He said, that man, I know in 30 years, that man should have sent me some chocolates and champagne.
48:04He walked off with 30 amps. He wants the coach! He just can't see past that money. Somebody please give me 30 amps. Could the National Museum of Hip Hop Get out of here Joe and Shane is over You out? I'm taking the 30
48:26Coconut Coconut But the ones that you can peel the inside With the spoon On the beach Piece of the gauze One Red Rises, beloved Red Rises, beloved I don't know what y 'all waiting for Like, yo, this is what we doing it for. You know what I'm saying? Like, let me get out of here. 30 M's. How you feel about the state of the music industry, whatever's left of it right now? Man. Way it's conducted. My last album was like four years ago. And so much has happened. Changed dramatically in four years. Like, the styles, the sub-genres, the... There's been artists that came and went in that time. I'm not fucking out.
49:12That's a fact. Literally came and went. Like, the industry plant stuff, some people think it's real, some people not. Like, you know, fans be more aware. It's just, it's the wild, wild west right now. I think I'm on Def Jam too. Oh, yeah? You think? The last time I went there, it was crazy. It's a bunch of young kids. It's like this show on Netflix with the levels. That shit you like, stay. And I went to the floor and there's a bunch of new youth. What's the show? Squid Games? No, it's almost, it's like Squid Games mixed with the other shit that came out doing the food on the shit, man, with the levels.
49:52Oh, the food. Yeah, it's like that. Yeah, I like that shit. I went to this floor. I seen nobody I knew, but it was like a bunch of young kids. Know what I'm saying? They in control. Then they took me all the way up to the towers. Then I saw all of the people that I used to know, all of my people that worked on my album. So that freaked me out. That alone. It's a whole, they put the youth. So many people like. Yes, man. People I don't know. Then a few that I knew, they put them in the chimney. Well, I never know. What was that? The chimney's crazy. They heard me, man. It's kind of cold. It's supposed to be kind of hot.
50:33They put them up. I'm like, yo, I got to meet a whole new. Well, you know, people got to work. And the problem is that a lot of people that have been gatekeeping and they've been getting their checks for years and years and years. And getting exposed. They're lazy. And so they don't really want to put in that work and that pain. You know, I got a friend. He's my brother. I don't want to say his name. Say it! No, I can't do that. But he be telling me, yo, I got to work. He been in the industry getting the check for 30 years. That's his man. And he's like, yo, they actually got me working. I said, well, what the fuck you think this is?
51:12Like, you're getting a check. You have to work. There's not a lot of passion in the office. Screen fucked up. There's not a lot of passion. One thing I learned about this industry, when you find people that rock with you and go hard for you, you should keep them repulsed in relationships because there's not going to be a lot of them that's passionate about their job and really want to help you. You know what I mean? You know, I got both. I agree with both of you guys, right? But, you know, it's a time for the youth to show what they know in the industry and all that. And we can't have... Look, what I'm going to say, I ain't going to say it.
51:51No, no, no, because I got too many friends, too many people that I love, too many people responsible for my career, DJs and all that. But when you got DJs, unless they DJing in the greatest hits station. We got those, 94.7, the block, WBLS. You can't be 60 trying to control the rap game. There got to be some young dudes that got to get up in there and start DJing. There got to be some young kids that you got to hire that know what's going on. I think nobody got the patience. That's my experience with a lot of the younger people because we trying to build a staff for what we've been with too. but like everybody they don't realize you gotta go from here to there to there they think it's this for a couple weeks and then it's right there and like all we know is like climbing up like that but like instant gratification is like you know what what this conversation brings me to is Kanye West be bugged out right and he do bugged out shit but I agree with him where the man is saying he's selling every Adidas sneaker.
53:01He a fucking billionaire. And they put him to talk to somebody's son when he's discussing his sneakers and all that. There's a kid there making$90 ,000 a year literally telling him what to do. Like, nah, we ain't doing it like that. Yo, we doing that. He's like, yo, bro, I'm keeping the lights on in Adidas. Yeah, but it's still protocol. Protocol? You tell a billion dollar dude to walk up in there and play the court with you. What do you think the niggas that gave him that deal, what you think they got? Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. Yeah, I don't mean this because he got that. It's still somebody higher than him and somebody higher than him.
53:40Listen, I agree with him. I agree with him. I think there's certain people that if you know they win all the time, they keep the lights on, they know how to put it out the bar. It's more business, man. Don't have no young kid telling them what to do. You don't get what you ask for. You get what you negotiate. You know that. I got to use the bathroom on that. Oh, shit. Who was the number one DJ in Washington, D.C.? Alize. Alize? Alize. Alize. When you used to be coming all the time. I remember. Flex. No, that was Flex. Flex was the nigga there. From the back of Flex. DJ Flex and WBGC. Alize at 93.9.
54:17Yeah. And then the light-skinned nigga. That's my man. What's the light-skinned guy over there? Peace, too. Quick Silver. Quick Silver, the man. Yeah. Quick Silver. That's when I first met you when you came to 93.9. I saw you there. And I was still - Quicksilver had Fat Joe in the back of his pocket. Every year I perform for his birthday party, I swear to God. 1:00:20So I think we all have indulged in vices at particular moments. Like, you know what I'm saying? It's just too much. It's too heavy. It's a lot. And then you have everything's a lot. And then you got to act like you perfect and all that. Yeah. There you go. And these guys, whether they get along. We playing a song. No, no, no. God damn. No. No. No. No. I'm trying to tell you. Now, hey, so look, everything's a lot. November 14th, this song is called... How much my Jewish friends don't get along, they work together and they make money together and they do business together.
1:01:41and for some reason I feel like in this industry everybody try to knock you down for doing good. I'm just saying that. The new song Let's Go. Let's get to it. I like how you call that. It's the truth though. That's all I was going to say. And welcome back. My name is Wale. This song is called Belly and it's just really about balancing both sides of my life from the reality of the situation you know, man, trauma I've been through, and, like, survivor's guilt.
