In short
Shits and Gigs (best-friend podcast duo) appear on the Joe Marla show for a “Best Friend Challenge,” plus a deep-dive into their friendship and Joe Marla’s anxious/avoidant attachment themes. The episode includes a chaotic “Janet” off-mic accident (whipped cream everywhere), then an interview, then a game where best friends must match a middle word in the fewest turns.
Guests
James (Fuhad) and Fuhad (James) are long-time friends who became roommates at university, later lived separately, and reunited via monthly visits. They started podcasting after Fuhad initially refused due to not wanting his “authentic” self seen at work; he eventually agreed. They’re also touring: UK/Ireland tour starts 24 May (Bristol) to late June (Dublin).
Key claims
Their friendship is “professional friends” and “zero judgments”; Joe Marla frames one guest’s fear of closeness as anxious/avoidant attachment cycle. They overshare on their podcast.
Notable examples
Year 7 “buttons up” story; university bar crawl where one guest vomited out a window and slept on a sofa; debate about sucking snake poison out of a bitten penis.

2:01Joe Marler:Yes? Have you heard of a little something? Oh my God. Oh my God, there's been a massive accident. Janet's... Janet? Janet's fallen over behind the set. Janet, you okay? I don't know if anyone heard. For the audio listener, well, to be honest with you, the audio listener is the one actually at an advantage here. There was a massive thud. Janet, pick up. Should we check on her? Yeah, you go mate. I've got to prep the session. Let me see what's happened. I've got to prep today. Oh my God! Oh my God! What? She's absolutely trashed the place. What? I have no idea what's happened. What do you mean? She's trashed the place.
2:39Joe Marler:No, show me. In a fit of rage. Where, where's she? Oh my God! Janet! It's everywhere. She's done a runner as well. What the fuck is that about? She's left it in absolute state. I didn't know you could get... Where's all the cream come from? Oh my... Fuck. That is whipped cream everywhere. Everywhere. I think that's intentional, isn't it? Whatever's happened is intentional. There's nothing... There's no such thing as non-intentional stuff. Let's examine that. So, what's an accident then? There's no such thing. What do you mean? You've never done anything by accident? Oh, what? What about your hair today?
3:16Joe Marler:Was that intentional? Yeah. It's a lovely sort of smart brush over. Yeah, I've told you, I've tried a new vibe. Are you worried?
3:27Joe Marler:We get to do this for what reason? All of this exists for what reason? You are very good on The Traitors. Oh, I see. The Traitors is back. It's being filmed as we speak. Is somebody else going to be the new Joe Marla? I don't know. I don't know that's what that's what you mean by worried maybe would it be would it be Romesh you'll see now will Romesh get to have a podcast who knows he already's got like 10 that was a bit of a joke oh
4:01it's funny that you bring that up Jake because on the day it was announced the Saturday oh yeah I was actually at Chessington World of Adventures with Nick Muhammad so it was nice to spend the day with him yeah But we were both like, oh wow, look at this car's... And both a bit like, oh, a bit sad. Oh, you want to be back there? Oh, FOMO. Oh, shall we do it all again? And then we were like, no, I wouldn't want to do it all again. I'm grateful that we got the opportunity to do it. And then even more grateful I got to milk everything.
4:36Joe Marler:Yeah. Off the back of it. And old Jake got a taste as well. Why not? Who do we think's going to go well in there? A friend of mine is in there. Oh, who's your friend? Joe Lycett. Oh, how do you think Joe will do? I think that everyone is going to be so suspicious of him because he's known for doing these big stunts and, like, pulling the wool over people's eyes and, you know, a little bit of... That was Nico's downfall. Yeah. That's what happened to him. He's got that Nico thing. Yeah, definitely. So I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Who's going to be the farter? That's what we need to know. Good. Who's going to be the farter?
5:25I'm so sorry.
5:34It's so wet. No! No! They're so wet! They're so wet! Well, I look forward to seeing how all pans out. See you.
5:51Joe Marler:I look forward to getting some fucking air. Well, before you... Before you go out and... We've got guests. Okay, whilst you're on that, what guests have we got? And I... Shits and gigs.
6:11Joe Marler:Good. We've got... It's shits and gigs. Normally I do a little run up, but I'm not really sure how to do this anymore.
6:24Okay, shall we give the audience a debrief of shits and gigs before they get here? Yeah, of course.
6:31Joe Marler:I'd love to. Yeah, please do. Very, very prolific podcasters. They've done arenas with their podcasts. Not just tiny arenas. Big, big arenas. Big, big arenas. Massive. 2.9 million followers on the social platform. Yeah. Mega. Huge. They're funny men. And they're also best friends. Are they, though? Yeah, well, we'll find out, I suppose. Let's dig into that. Who's your best friend? Who's my best friend?
7:01Matt. How do you know him? How do I know him? Because he's my best friend.
7:06Joe Marler:When did you meet him? When I was little. How young were you? There's a real vulnerability to you coming out right now. Nine, maybe ten. Oh, I met my best friend when I was 11. Did you hit your best friend around the face with a bamboo stick and he punched you in the face in return the first time you met? No. Not best friends then? In year seven, it was a games lesson and it was rugby. And I'm not built for it. I'm not built for it. As you said earlier when we were having lunch, I don't have a single athletic attribute about me. I remember that was that was a lesser known thing that he said to me in real life genuinely said that earlier do you deny it?
7:50Joe Marler:well I mean I'm not one to say am I? still beat you in a running race anyway anyway anyway me and Greg so I didn't know Greg at the time but we'd come in from playing rugby it was so cold Joe it was so cold and I was like bell had rung in the changing rooms I'm meant to go to the next lesson and I'm like shivering and I can't do the buttons up on my school show and I'm panicking because I'm like, I can't get to the next lesson. The bell's rung. Everyone's starting to leave. And then Greg comes over and he says, I'll do your buttons up for you, mate. And he did the buttons up. And then the whole, all of the boys in that, the Year 7 boys just turn around and shout, they're gay.
8:25Joe Marler:They're gay. They're gay. And Greg said, don't worry about that. That's just silliness. And he did the buttons up. And you know what? 20 years later, we're the ones that are living together. So who's the gay ones now? I'd like to meet Greg then. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you think I'll ever meet Greg? I'd love you to. I'd love you to meet Matt too. Does he play rugby? Used to. He got me into it. Really? Yeah. He was like, oh, you're big and fat and you'll be good to... Well, he got you into rugby, your best mate. Yeah. He's my brother from another mother. Yeah. And I think we're going to get a little bit of that from these guys.
8:57Joe Marler:It's beautiful seeing friendships taken into adult life. It really is. Right, should we get them in? Now? Yeah. See if Janet's cleared up. I think we might need to give it five more minutes before we get them in. Yes.
9:17Janet, shit's in gigs there. Good. No, not right now. Just five minutes. We're going to crack a window and then bring them in. Cheers.
9:32Shit's in gigs, everybody! Yay! Welcome. Thank you.
9:42Thank you for having us. Oh, you're coming. That was an embrace. Yeah, I feel like, I feel being left out. Keep that clap going, people. That's nice. There's two of them. Oh, that's nice. That's nice. You both smell incredible. Oh, thank you, bro. Thanks. Thank you, bro. Jake, do you want to do an embrace or just a wave?
10:01Joe Marler:I would like to, but I'm sort of stuck over here, aren't I? Would you like a hug? I kind of would, yeah. Is that all right? Yeah, of course it is, bro. I'm going to come over and get so nice to meet you guys. And you, bro. It really is. And it's answered a question I've been wondering for a long time. Which is? Can you fit a third chair around that table? Turns out you can. Thank you for coming. Thank you for having us. Really appreciate you giving up your time today because there's clearly stuff that we need to work on. Okay. The best way for us to assess that is the intake questionnaire. Are you ready to begin?
10:32I think so. I think so. A fountain pen. I haven't seen one of those in ages. That's just a prop, by the way. Okay. Thank you for that. No worries. Full names. It's not shits. It's not gigs. James? Fuhad. Occupations.
10:53There's no right or wrong answer to any of these, actually. What would you say?
11:02Professional friends. What? There we go. I think that actually is decent. Professional friends. Professional friends. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jake, that's the longest we've had as a guest to come up with an answer for that one, isn't it? The longest it took to answer it? Yeah.
11:16Joe Marler:What did Stephen Fry say? Stephen Fry had no idea what he was doing, to be fair. He was coming up with all sorts. Well, I suppose a thespian, thinker, writer, actor. At least this is concise. That was a clean impression. I don't know why they keep you in the back. Where's the screen time? Wow, sorry, Rob. Describe the other one. In three words, who wants to go first? I would describe you as... Actually, you go first. Oh, okay. Who had you go first? Apparently. Genuine.
11:54Ambitious.
11:58And funny. Nice. That was pretty good. Thank you. That was really good. Thank you. Thank you. So three genuine answers. Thank you. Professional friend we're talking about. Yeah. Valid. It's kind, actually. I would say... Candid. Kind. And... Empathetic. Sort of the same thing. Kind and empathetic are the same thing. No. No, they're not. No, they're not. I don't know why you said that, Jake. Did you say that? It's fine to be like, no one's expecting perfection from you. Joe, you can show vulnerability. Why aren't you here? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can show vulnerability, dude. I feel like you have negative thoughts about yourself and then you're playing into those but no one else thinks that about you.
12:51Fucking hell. I think you need to be on this side. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We need to be there. And we can really figure out what's going on with the true Joe Mahler. Because I don't think you're inadequate in any way, shape or form and I don't think anyone else in this room does. But that's the story you tell yourself and I don't know why. And you really do lean into it. Let's dive into that, Joe. There's been a lot of questions thrown at you. Take your time. Take your time, Joel. James. Yes, sir. What's your earliest memory of Fuhad? It was our first day at university. We were in our first lecture.
13:25Fuhad was talking to another one of our friends, and I decided that I wanted to be friends with them. So then at our first break, I introduced myself to them, and that was my earliest memory. Oh, that was nice. Was that the same? I remember him walking in. I was talking to our other friend and then... Do you actually remember me walking in? I remember you walking in. Really? I don't remember the rest of that day and how like you actually started to speak trans-spired, but I remember you walking in. What did you think when I walked in? Actually, another black guy. Yeah, fair. That's what I thought when I saw you.
13:57Well, that was your first thought of him. Yeah. In my mind, I'm like, yes, another black guy. Like, it's just like, you know, well, you might not know, but when... You might not know you. If you see another guy with cauliflower ears, you'll definitely be like, oh yeah, that one. I know one.
14:13Joe Marler:Do you know what? It's a little bit like how we were talking about imposter syndrome. It can take you over and it can make you think, should I be in a certain space and should I be in a certain place? You see someone who reflects a part of you that you might not see represented, you think there's a bit of safety there. I can gravitate towards that. I can understand. Fuck yeah, bro. I can understand that. What? There we go. What's the last lie you told each other?
14:36I'm actually being genuine. I can't think of a thing. I can't think of... Why would we lie to each other? Yeah, we have no reason to. Oh, yeah. What's the last lie you told Jake? That there was no room up here? Facts. I haven't told you any lies, I don't think. Okay, I'll be honest. That suit... Yeah. I think I've told you quite a few times. Yeah. It's great. Yeah. And I don't think it is. Great. It's horrible, isn't it?
15:07Joe Marler:Yeah, it is. But you chose it. I know, but now I'm like forever going to be looking like Indian Mr Bean for the whole rest of this with us doing this podcast. I was going to say that's a really cool Mr Bean suit. Thank you so much for having me. That's Mr Bean to a T. Do you have to have the same suit every week? Is that important? Do you know what? It's never really been spoken about. No, we haven't spoken about that. We wear the same clothes for every episode. But why? Do we really need to? Oh, but nice. Not having that.
15:37Better. Different.
15:37Joe Marler:What you'd be very excited to know about is the jumper underneath. If you were to take that jacket off now, you'll see something you were not expecting. Is it a shirtless? I was going to say, how do you say it? Sleeveless. Yeah, it is a sleeveless turtleneck. Was that a DIY thing? It looks it. It does look it. It does look it. It spreads everywhere. It does look it. It does look it. It does look it. It's not a dick. I couldn't find any scissors. Are you just swoon your teeth? You were just... It's pretty cool to be fair. It's cool. Yeah, it looks clean for that. Thanks. That's kind of it. You've ripped the sleeves off.
16:06It's fucking roasting in here, isn't it? It is quite warm. I was worried about that in the car. What's the one thing you love about the other one the most? He has zero judgments on anything I tell him. I love that the most. Zero judgments? Yeah, yeah. That's good. I think his... How do I articulate this?
16:30His genuine ability to be there for his friends.

16:36Why is that funny? It's just... You're just like... You're going today. Oh, okay. It's good. Yeah, okay, cool. It's good, it's good. That's the truth. Thank you, bro. You're welcome. It felt sincere. It did feel sincere.
16:47Joe Marler:You're also so polite to each other as well. You'll say something so earnest and then it's followed by... Thank you, you're welcome. No problem. Oh, I just love it. I just love everything about this friendship. How would you... Yeah, when someone says something incredibly kind to you, how do you react? Doesn't happen very often, my friend. I'll tell you what. you seem very eloquent and it's impressive wow and we've only been here for like 10 minutes yeah you impressed me like three times you made a lasting impression already yeah you've made a genuine lasting impression yeah guys you've knocked me for six thank you so much oh yeah there you go this is a good day you seem kind also joe ah you know genuinely kind and you like Your hugs are fantastic.
17:28You've probably heard that before. Good hugger. Great hugger. Thanks.
17:33Joe Marler:You're welcome. We've never been so pick me with the guests before. I don't know why this has happened. Do you think that maybe we could have something that's nice about us? Maybe, I don't know. Do you consent to being analysed by someone who's not a real doctor? I consent. Do I need to sign anything? I think I prefer it.
17:54Right, you two are best mates. Yes, sir. It's actually been really nice hearing how you two speak about each other. Thank you, bro. You two. I don't know. I hope you two rub off on me and Jake a little bit more. Hopefully. I don't necessarily know that maybe more that. You rubbing off on him. Yeah, yeah. Jake seems to really be delivering the compliments and stuff. Jake's been rubbed. He seems really invested. And it does seem like he... He wants it more than you. Yeah. He wants more of you. but i'm too scared to give him more of me is it scared yeah why are you scared because i don't trust anyone why don't you okay let's really lock in on this don't think we need to i'd love to he really doesn't trust anyone i don't trust anyone why why because at any point they can just park off and leave you oh that's so true do you know how do i know that was it avoidant and avoiding attachment yeah yeah yeah this has really turned its tables this is the this is the point of the show you're an avoiding attachment you're a so in your mind it's like a it's a joe and jake it's not a wee you're not a wee it's separate which is why you clearly visibly needed separation yeah so no one can associate you guys together because what if jake leaves but i love jake and i want it to be more of a wee okay but but i'm too scared to give that wee and have that with him because at any point he'll just go i'm done with him what the fuck right how do we move
19:31Joe Marler:on from that how do we what can jake do to to build that sorry it's not a jake issue it's a anxious attachment style, then you're avoiding, I'm getting anxious. That's then making you think, oh, hang on a minute, that anxiety is coming across as something that is different to when we're in the good times, which makes me want to run away. Cycle continues, fucked, no season two. Well, it's a sort of always on podcast, but you know what I mean. This guy's fucking clutch. Bro! This guy's fucking clutch. Do you need to stand up? Yeah, yeah, he definitely does stand up. Bitter, bit, bit, bit. But that's not about that.
20:08Joe Marler:It's not about that. It's not about that. It's not about that. It's not about that. Yes, Jay. I did a bit. Yeah, it's not about that. It's not about that. Wow. Okay, cool. So yeah, no, I think like, it can't continue that way. And to be fair, I am that way, exactly like that. I am in other relationships, but not with Fuhad. I think what we need to do for you, Joe, is find the root cause. Try and really dig into that trauma before you can move forward. because there's no way you can move forward without looking back. You have to deal with what happened in the past. I think you're both spot on and I really appreciate your assessment of that.
20:47You're welcome. But we're here to dig into you two. Let's really challenge this friendship. Let's see if it's as strong as it appears. Stress test us, bro. We're good.

22:22When every second counts, count on ADT. Visit ADT.com to learn more. How did you two become Shits and Gigs? We'd been friends for a long time. We'd lived together for a few years at uni. Then we'd gone to our respective homes for a few years. We'd spend kind of like ad hoc time together, but we'd still talk every day, along with the rest of our friendship group. And then Fuyad had an opportunity to move to Manchester for work. And then when that came up, I was like, oh, this is a great opportunity for us to spend more time together. So when he moves, I'm going to go and visit him more and just spend the weekend there or whatever.
23:01And then that started happening. And probably, I want to say after like a year. Yeah. Ish. Ish. I'll probably visit once a month. And during those once a month visits, we'll just have like really cool conversation and lots of laughs. At the time, I was really into podcasts. And then I asked Fyad, oh, would you mind if I just, if I get everything, the mics and the camera and all this kind of stuff, you don't have to do anything. Just exactly how we have this conversation now. I'll just set it up, you don't have to do anything. Did you present that to him knowing that because you know him so well that he would he'd be like no if I have to make any effort to do this to get it off the ground I'm out I didn't think that if you present it to him on a plate like you haven't got an excuse because you've done fuck all I just need your voice to skip to the end he still said no but yes that was part that was part of my my process why were you so reluctant um I had never listened to podcasts before I wasn't because I was I was in hospitality I was always like not client facing like public facing a lot and i didn't want people to see like the authentic side of me because i'm i feel like everyone not everyone but sometimes people are different at work than they are with their friends so them seeing this side or this version of me that i am with james on the podcast and then they come and see me at work and i'm their manager it's like a weird complex but i said yes after a while what's the best thing about working with your best friend oh you guys go and then Obviously, we'll go.
24:28Yeah, obviously. Oh, are you guys best friends? We're getting there. How did you guys meet?
24:34Joe Marler:Here. Here. You were paired up? We had a few Zoom calls. We started... Just one Zoom call. Nice. Yeah. I'm trying to over-romanticise the story here, Joe. I'm trying to find some fucking padding from wherever I can. A couple of Zoom calls, maybe. You can pad it out all you want, mate, but you don't need to pad it out. Yeah, it's true. Be my authentic self. Because I felt you the first Zoom we had together. I went, fucking hell, who's this guy? Yes. I mean, I want to work with him. He's funny. I like him. Let's do that. Will it work in person when we first meet? We'll find out. And I was like, I like this guy.
25:05And now I don't want to lose him ever. Wow. Because I just love... He's getting close up. He's getting close up.
25:11Joe Marler:I'll say you two and he's saying this sort of stuff. He's getting close up. You've got both feet in now. I'm sorry. What you do from now is important. Yeah, facts. Don't shame him for it. I'm breaking kayfabe here. What the fuck is kayfabe? You guys said that earlier. Something to do with character wrestling. Munya Chihuahua taught us about it. It's a wrestling term where they're just in character no matter what. So the undertaker would go to airports and still be the undertaker and they'd keep that facade up. I get it, I get it. I'm breaking it. I have told you countless times how much I love you and how much I love working with you.
25:42And yes, I am still scared about giving all of me or even more of me to you.
25:47Joe Marler:Yeah. Okay? I am scared in general. I know you're scared. I know you're scared. I love doing this. and actually seeing these two actually open up and be like fucking it doesn't matter it's a good thing to share that you said vulnerability yes share that double down yeah sorry you're doing well sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry do you know what I mean well I love doing this for you so much I love doing okay back to you guys my week every week favourite thing of doing podcasting me your best friend that was awesome that was really really impressive wow um you really do need to give him positive reinforcement for that behaviour if you want it to continue, by the way.
26:29Joe Marler:Yeah, Joe, I thought that was very brave. I know how hard that is for you to open up and to do it in front of so many people as well. And I appreciate that. And I appreciate it on a professional level, but also on the level of our growing friendship as well. It means a lot. Yes, dude. Yes, bro! Come on! Do you know what I mean? Come on! Does that not feel sick? Like, it's awesome. Yeah, it's like it. What a read! You can read now! Yes dude! I'm getting a new suit, fuck it! Fuck it! There's no rules! There's no rules! I enjoy this tight! Oi, oi, bring your chair here. No, no, no, it's too far, it's too far.
27:06Let's talk a little bit more about your podcast. Sure. Nothing's off limits, right? It depends. No, I mean, on your podcast. Errr... I think it's more about just like, we do a lot of TMI. at least I do what's TMI? too much information like oversharing I feel like I've slowly started to get into my oversharing which I enjoy I should give you a thumbs for that thank you because you've even today when you said about the hairline thing I was like this is not me what was the hairline thing? oh what happened? come on I'm interested no no I'm sorry I'm going to send him so there is a influencer I should say an influencer that is engaged but But she's shown her man by covering her man's face with a ring and blah, blah, blah.
27:53And it's going around people thinking it's me because his beard and whatnot is similar to mine. So I'm getting loads of DMs, seeing it on TikTok or whatever, whatever, whatever. And people are saying, I should respond, I should respond. I clearly don't give a fuck. It's not me. I know it's not me, whatever. So there is now a picture of me in one of the comments to one of her videos saying, oh it can't be Fuhad because Fuhad's hairline is scared of his forehead. And it has till date's 14 ,000 likes. 14.2. Accurate. But no one's counting. How many of you contributed to that? No, today was the first I've heard of it.
28:30It was funny.
28:31Joe Marler:And how they found that picture, I don't know. The angle was like here. We don't have cameras here, so I was eating. Someone works a snake. Is it a legit picture? It's a legit picture. Not like a maid. No, that's legit. Yeah. It's unflattering. You worried about your hairline? No. Mine is gone. No, you shouldn't be. You've got thick hair. There you go. I'm nice. You're nice. Thank you, bro. Are you worried about your hairline? No. Mine's alright as well. Fucking hell. You've both got great hair. Thanks, bro. Yourself? I've had mine done. Have you really? Yeah. How was that? Uh, painful. Really?
29:05Really? I've never actually spoken to someone who's actually had it done. Yeah. Like how painful out of ten? Uh... And for how long? Like a seven. That's high. That's pretty high. And it's fucking long. How long? You're like on your front for three hours. Oh, my God. Picking them all out. And then you sit back up at like a weird angle where they're putting them all in for like two, three hours as well. Jesus. And you're not numbed? You must be numbed. You are numbed, yeah. But you still... It's long and you're there and... But you quite like pain. I did like it. Was it the sort of pain that you like?
29:38I did like it, to be honest. You like it? Yeah, it was quite nice. You love pain. I did like and then three you're meant to like rest obviously all the swelling all that yeah I played paddle like two or three days after it fuck it was sweat yeah sweat and I had a bandana on to try and hide it but like I pressed my forehead just a little bit and realised like it was like just caved in the swelling I looked like a Klingon you know yeah to be fair I've seen when people wear sweatbands and their head literally like yeah megamind yeah the swelling was bad oh my god but great that made me feel a little bit more confident about it good nice how long ago was this?
30:16a year a year to a year to the week actually oh wow how fast does it grow? so when do you know let's say you did it today yeah in like four months time was it like okay cool am I at a good peak? no it's still patchy okay it's still patchy it takes a while for it to really set in and then fucking hell that is a while it is a while yeah what's some of the wildest stories from your pod. Christ. Now you're asking. I know what one I want to get to. Do you want to start with that? No. No? No, I want to see what comes out of your mouth. And that may be related to the one I thought about. Ooh. We were meant to go on a night out.
30:56They, well, okay. It was my first time wanting to go to a bar crawl in a commentary. This one back in uni. These guys had gone, I say these guys, James and a few of our other friends had gone the year before. It's called Carnage. sick time i was jealous never went i was like next year i'm going bought the shirt we had lectures that day i think i finished lectures early went to my room play music and i was drinking disarano from like 3 p.m i had a bottle and a half coke no pure straight from the bottle straight because it was sweet i liked it and i was like yeah yeah let's go let's go let's go let's go so the walk from our house to our other friends um student accommodation was less than 200 meters um before we actually got into the apartment i was laying flat on the car because i was i just couldn't move they took me upstairs to the apartment they were all getting ready getting hyped to go out and i was like guys i i don't think i can make it i was on a sofa on like the floor fourth floor and i had to open the um window to the maximum because in uni accommodation you can't open the window all the way because of yeah yeah safety safety yeah so it was ajar and i threw up all down the windowsill and i was like guys i'm not going anywhere i'm not going anywhere i'm not going anywhere um they tried to pick me up to take me back to the house again roughly 200 meters away i they couldn't take me out of the kitchen that's how heavy my dead weight was it's the same and they decided to leave me there they decided to all go out and bearing the man for context the kitchen i was in was linked to it wasn't a uni accommodation so all the bedrooms were actually locked with fobs so you need a fob to get in so the only communal place is the kitchen area so there's no toilet there's no bathroom there's no there's a sink obviously for the kitchen area but you shoot in the sink i shot in a bucket they were up in a mop bucket specifically shot pissed and vomited in a bucket and i slept on a sofa the night on that night then went home the next day when these guys went back home yeah and i didn't do i didn't clean the bucket i didn't yeah someone would have walked into that kitchen vomit and piss in their muck bucket yeah the trifecta the trifecta yeah yeah yeah you'll judge me if i tell you i shit in a pint glass once yeah and then what and then i tried like uh shock valuing someone with it that's up dude and he didn't bat an eyelid.
33:20He just took the glass off me and pickled it with his piss. Yeah? What's wrong with you, Doc? No, no, what's wrong with him? Him? Him? You started it. He's had a pint glass. I took it there and he went like that and then he took it another level where he went to this lad who wasn't in, in his room and put it on his side desk and got one of those, you know the lamps that move for reading? You know, the extendable arms. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He put it over the pint. So he heat up and like smell. Turned it on. To heat it up. He took up and shut the door. Lad was gone all weekend.
33:52Joe Marler:Oh, my God. But come back, he's like, what the fuck? Oh, my God. Don't judge, you shit in a bucket. Yeah, that was through necessity. That was necessity. He was not well. That was survival. That wasn't actually the story that I... What is the story? Sorry. It wasn't, but this one really liked a debate and get maybe an opinion from you, Jake. You had a debate on whether you'd suck the poison out of the other person's penis. Yeah. If you were bitten by a snake, yes. Yeah. Yeah. And that's an important bit of a moment of emotion. I think it's very important. Yeah, it's very important. It's hugely important.
34:26Like, okay, so you've been bitten in your dick. You've got a few minutes to live. Yeah. Your compadre is the only person... There. There, in distance. You've not got time to call an ambulance or anything like that. You've got a few minutes. The only way to save my life is, yeah, if you suck my dick to get the poison out. Jake, would you suck my dick to get the poison out? Just clarify, you both said yes to helping... He said no. You said no? I said no on the pod, yeah. You said... That was a long time ago. That was a long time ago, yeah. I would help him out. You'd do it now? Save his life. Because that's how close you've got now.
34:58Mm-hmm. Okay.
34:59Joe Marler:I would find it easier if it was on the shaft, to be honest with you. Like a... Yeah. Yeah. Corn on the cob situation. Exactly. So there's more rotation. Yeah. Because on the side, then, you're not having to look it in the eye, as it were. Yeah. But, I mean, if the consequence is you die, I mean, you've got to do what you've got to do, I guess. Do you want to say yes? Well, the question is... You would. Will I allow you to die because I'm going to be sort of squeamish? No, would you save me by sucking my penis? I would save you. Fucking hell, that means so much. And the thing is, when we had the conversation, we were already years into this friendship.
35:37You guys are 17 episodes in and that's what you're willing to do. I know, but if he dies,
35:40Joe Marler:that's a lot of cash that I'm losing out on, really. Potentially. It's also an open seat. Yeah. I'm just saying.
35:51I want to ask you about your tour that you've just come back from, but you're also going to start again. Yeah, we've got one coming up. 24th of May? Nice, dude. Let's go. Yeah, so we went to LA. We just got back from LA. We had a fantastic time in LA. We had a Netflix is... Netflix is a joke? That's what it's called. That's what the festival was. And now we are gearing up for our UK and Ireland tour, which starts on the 24th. Starts off on the 24th of May in Bristol. ends on the 26th of June in... Dublin. Dublin. Nice, yes. That's exactly what it is. What can we expect from the Shits and Gigs show in London?
36:26Okay, cool. It's just a really, really amazing live show. It's like there's some fun segments that we do on the podcast that we bring to life theatrically. Yes. There's some new segments and some crowd interaction. Yes. And it's just like a very intentional, well-thought-out, well-delivered show. There's a lot of podcasts, live shows these days and I biasly think ours is by far the best. Yeah. Agreed. I completely agree. It might be one of the best things you see live. Wow. It's unexpectedly amazing. Yeah, that's actually, someone said that one time. Yeah. Unexpectedly amazing. Unexpectedly amazing.
37:02Yeah. What were the American audiences like? Oh, yeah. Crazy amazing. Really, right.
37:07Joe Marler:Their fan fandom is insane. And was there anything with the British humour that was hard to like, I don't know were there any obstacles between that or they just loved it all no nah because we're not really like comedians trying to tell jokes also very true I think we're just doing the same conversations that we do in person so like if they're if they're fans of the podcast then they get it it's all good a lot of the time they just like they tell us a lot that they use our slang and they just use it so wrong so I think they're just happy I think they're just happy to hear it yeah if anything yeah I cannot believe we had all this planned out I thought me and Jake would be able to help you guys like pick not pick holes in your friendships see if it's genuine or not yeah and it turns out from the fucking first minute it's in a reverse yeah and it's been so lovely thank you bro it has been lovely for us as well yeah man we've had to shake things up a bit cool What about a bit of a showdown, Jake?
38:09Joe Marler:Let's do it. We're going to take part head-to-head. Okay. You two versus us two in the best friend challenge. Nice. You two versus me and Joe. Aim of the game... Bring the snakes out. Nice. Aim of the game is to say the same word as your best friend at the same time. Okay? So James and Fuhad, you're both going to say a random word at the same time. Yep. You're then going to try and say the word that is in the middle of those words. You're going to keep going until you say the same word. Whoever, whichever pair does it in the least amount of turns, they're the best friends. Cool, cool. Easy. So I want you to say any random word, just to start yourselves off.
38:47Joe Marler:Change a few hands. Okay, random word in three, two, one. Music. Interesting. Water and music. So the aim of the game is to try and get the same word. Can they do it in two? That would be the perfect score. The perfect score would be to do it in two. Music, water. Three, two, one. Tyler. What? That is incredible. Nice. Nice. In the history of that game, which we've played once. Joe, nothing we can do can beat that. We can only try to equal what they've done. There's only one way to beat them. Okay. Three, two, one. Love. Table. Fuck. Love and table. Love and table. All right, okay. We've got to try and get it in this otherwise.
39:29Joe Marler:Love and table. Hang on. Okay. Three, two, one. Mountain. Mountain. Mountain? Mountain. I was going to say missionary. Love, table, missionary. I see where your hair's going. Guys, you two clearly are the best friends. Give it up for James and Fu, had Chicks and Kicks, everybody. Thank you very much.
39:54I hope we've helped you in some way. I hope we've helped you. I think it's been the other way around. So I want to say thank you. I'm grateful. Thank you, bro. Usually we give the guests a badge. What have we gone for then, Jake?
40:08Joe Marler:We've gone for S &G are BFFs, and that is for you two there. Thank you, Jake. Thank you, Jake. Thank you, guys. I've loved this. I've absolutely loved it. Same. Thank you, bro. Oh, this is... Oh, it's handwritten. It's hand-drawn, hand-made. That's sick. Okay, fair enough. Oh, and a lolly as well. A lolly pop, yeah. Janet will see you out. To your cars, all the very best. Shins and Gigs, everybody! Wow. I thought we were doing hugs again. That was awkward. Yeah. Come on, dude. Appreciate you.
40:44Joe Marler:Keep it going. Keep that going. Yeah, bro, nice. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Good luck with everything. Oh, thank you, bro. Thank you, bro, this was fun. Oh, yeah, that's nice as well. That'll make you right. I can't remember. We appreciate it. Yeah. Oh, sorry, yeah. Thank you, gents. Thank you. When ShxtsNGigs walk into Joe Marler’s office, the plan is simple: test one of the strongest friendships in podcasting.
But James and Fuhad have other ideas.
What begins as a session about their bond quickly turns into an unexpected intervention for Joe, as they challenge him to reflect on his own friendship with Jake and what might be holding him back.
Along the way, James and Fuhad reflect on how they first met, the chaotic university days that cemented their bond, and what their friendship truly means to them.
With stories, laughter, and a glimpse into their own podcast and upcoming tour, it becomes clear this isn’t just a session about friendship… it’s a masterclass in it.
