In short

Joe Marler Will See You Now interviews Lucy Beaumont (Lou/Luce) to unpack her “losing streak” after The Traitors, then reframes it into a “winning mindset.” They also do playful “fake doctor” intake questions, discuss her impressions of Joe, and revisit her Traitors exit and suspicions.

Guests

Lucy Anne Beaumont, a former The Traitors contestant; she says she was close with Kat, Nick Muhammad, Joe Wilkinson, and Alan (who dipped in/out). Joe Marler hosts with his assistant Jake (not a guest).

Key claims

Lucy says she was killed because she told Jonathan she needed to do her tax return; she felt she wasn’t a threat. She thought Joe looked like he was “on steroids” when they first met, and later trusted him as a “nice guy.” She says she betrayed Kat emotionally by suspecting her, and that her exit happened “on a chessboard.”

Notable examples

University Challenge captain for Hull; Hull Truck Theatre; she ranks “birth of anti-slavery movement” as most important among Hull-related items (Bongella, LCD TVs, Chip Spice).

2:11Probably last. Serial loser. That's what I'm sensing. Weakest link. Last. Pointless. Last. I was in the studio 25 minutes. It took me three and a half hours to get there. What was your actual first impression of Jo? When I first met you, I thought, he's on steroids.

2:37Hello, you've found your way to my office. Welcome. This is Jo Marla will see you now with me, Dr Jo Marla. I ask questions, people get uncomfortable, and maybe, just maybe, I can make a difference. Bearing witness to this is my assistant, Jake. Jake, say hello. Hi, Joe. Hi, how are you? Yeah, good. Yeah, good. How are you? Joe, I'm really bloody good. I'm excited to be here. Really bloody good? Well, I mean, look where we are in your office. I feel like, I mean, you've got everything you need to be a fake doctor, basically. You've got a brain in a jar, leather suitcase. You've got the corpse of Mr.

3:13T. He's knocking about. I actually nearly became like a psychologist. How? Well, I did psychology. Seriously? Yeah, AS level. Three months. An AS is like half an A level. Yeah. You did three months of the AS. So you did a quarter of a half of an A level in psychology. Yeah. And that was your answer to saying you nearly became a psychologist. Yeah. Yeah. But. I'm not saying anything either way. I'm just getting it clear in my head so I know what that is. But you are just very good at reading people and pairing a little root around in people's minds. I don't know if that's something you've always been good at.

3:52I don't know if you were like reading people on the rugby pitch. No. No. No, I wasn't good at that. I think with the awkwardness, I've always felt that you put someone in the right level of awkwardness, the right level of uncomfortability. You see the real person a bit more. Taking that as an example, chat, chat, chat, chat, chat, it's all very lovely. A police interview, they use silence to elicit answers that they might not otherwise get. I think this is gonna be somewhere in the middle. I think what you're gonna - But they also use noise.

4:40Drop it like his heart. Drop it like his heart.

4:47Joe, tell me, who have we got on the show? We've got Lucy B. And what was your relationship like with her in the... We got really tight. Yeah. We did get really close. There was a little group of us. Who was in the group? Me, Lucy, Kat, Nick Muhammad, Joe Wilkinson, Alan. He'd dip in and out. and obviously it became apparent why he was dipping in and out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Kat was sort of always there. I think Kat, I want to ask Lucy about Kat, actually. Yeah, what are you going to ask her about Kat? Well, like, I think she looked most heartbroken when the face-to-face murder and she was like, not you, Kat.

5:31What's your best, give me your best... Give me your best Lucy Bowman accent, go on.

5:44Like you're getting all bullshit for You're not like this during the day And you get round to round table And then you get all It's really good Is it? It's really good Does she mind? Just so I know if I can do it when she gets in Will she mind? I think we avoid it Okay

6:07I think with Lucy My time spent with her previously I have got a theory that she's struggling with something. Okay. And I want to really change that around for her. Can we do that? Mate, your last theory was the big dog theory. It's one of the most famous theories of the year. Any other theory you've got, I want to hear it now. Yeah. I tell you what, Lucy's not going to have seen this wonderful office. We're going to invite her in. She's going to see it for the first time. Janet, please, could you bring Lucy in? Thank you. Ta-ra. Nice.

6:51I need to change your waste of paper basket, Jo. It's actually cold. Lucy! Hi, Jo. Welcome. How are you? I'm alright. Are you alright? Is it you? Are you AI? What can I do to prove to you that it's me?

7:13Have you got shorts on? I've got shorts on. It's you. It's you. Welcome. Hi. Sorry, can I introduce you to Jake, my assistant? Hi Jake, you alright? Hi Lizzie, yeah. How are you feeling? What do you mean by that there? Do you mean like really? Or do you mean like really? It's entirely up to you. This is a safe space for you. Is it? Yeah. Does it feel safe? It feels. It feels so safe.

7:47Well, thank you so much for coming in. It's fine. The first thing I get our guest slash client to do is our intake questionnaire. Full name. Lucy, Anne, without an E, Beaubont. What's your preferred name? I do actually like it when you've just met someone and they just instantly call you Lou or Luce. You don't think it's too formal? No, I really like it. I tend to warm to them quicker. Do you remember what I called you when I first met you? Lou or Luce. You did, yeah. It's because I actually adored you from the minute I saw you. Oh, thanks, Joe. Star sign. Leo. Leo. King of the jungle. The lion.

8:34Yeah, the lion, yeah. Is that true, though? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Amelia. No, I think elephants are kings of the jungle. Why? Because they can stamp on lions. Have you asked Chachi and SheB about that? Jake, Jake. He's worth checking. I think lions are generally seen as king of the jungle. I think you're getting confused with elephants not forgetting. Sorry, Jo. Any known allergies? No, I've always wanted one. What's your biggest fear? Like getting ill or offending people. Current emotional stability? Weech. Could you do it by drawing? Yeah, sure. On this blackboard? Yeah. Thank you.

9:35How do you feel about chalkboards these days after your recent experience? What? What recent experience? You know, that thing we did together. What? What did we do? We buggered off to a castle for three weeks and wrote names on pieces of chalk. Oh, God. God. For fuck's sake. Oh, yeah. How are you getting on there, Lucy? She looks like she's doing quite well. Yeah, it seems quite detailed. I'm quite intrigued to see what you're going to make of this. Quite detailed. This is her current emotional state. Oh, I see. Why is it that you keep looking up at me while she's drawing that?

10:25Right. Can I just say, that is really, really quite impressive. That's a really, really, really great drawing. Thank you. Can you just explain how that really reflects your emotional state at the minute? Well, you here in front of me now is sort of everything that's going on. Thank you. Thank you, that was really quite impressive. Amazing drawing with Mr T.

10:52It's good, actually. You even got the wonky ears. It was decent. And you thickened up my hair, actually. I don't know if you've noticed. No, no, it's good. Have you noticed anything different about me since we've seen each other again? What is it? No transplant. You never have. Are you jerking? Is it that bad? No, it looks amazing. Went to Leeds. Oh, dear. What? Is that not... Should I have gone to Hull? No, I just... I've changed. It's a shame, innit? It's a shame. back to the intake question there best friend really Jackie Jackie best friend on the traitors er you Kat Kat was wasn't she so it's Kat Jer other Jer Nick would you like me to write all those names I thought we were in a group until you started suspecting me we'll just put cat shall we yeah I thought we were all in a it was me you cat Joe Nick we were thought that's it now we're all gonna go on holiday together and then as soon as you suspected me I was like no no I've done nothing for him to

12:16nothing for him to suspect me and you ripped that group apart Why did you turn on her? What do you mean I ripped the group apart? Yeah, because I was like, I thought these were my... I'm not getting into it. Okay, look, we're going to get into that, Luce. Okay. We will get into that. But I'm not bitter about it. We'll have a chance. I can sense that there is no resentment or bitterness at all, whatsoever. The whole room is just all love and joy. I can feel that.

12:49Do you consent to being analysed by someone who is not a real doctor? I'm not a real doctor. Yeah, I do, yeah. You do consent to it? Yeah, I do. I think the best people to assess you medically are retired rugby players.

16:44That's magic.

16:49Michael McIntyre's the wheel. I lost him on£75 ,000. mastermind last last but in the general knowledge they said which prime minister said Ich bin Berliner do you know what I said? Hitler so you're right I am a loser me and Jake are here to turn around who's Jake? I'm over here Jake I thought it was a skeleton sorry that's not me

17:21what me and Jake want to help you do is turn around this losing streak. I'd love that. And give you a winning mindset. Joe, honestly, I would genuinely really, really love that. Well, let's get into it, shall we?

17:39Let's talk about your most recent loss. The traitors. Okay. How do you feel? Well, how are you judging it? Because I think I got on with everybody. well everyone got on with everybody didn't they but you know our memories and I've got some nice memories I don't feel like I pissed anyone off it's a bonus so what went wrong then? why do you think they killed you? because the night before I told Jonathan I needed to do my tax return

18:17really? yeah that's what actually happened he was just doing you a favour the whole time I just I just said just turned to him and said God I really need to do my tax return then I was gone

18:33so if you had your time again would you not I'd keep my financial affairs private no so that's what went wrong for you he actually gave you an early exit because you wanted to leave I don't think they could decide could they it was silly I was no threat to them why were you no threat you there was miles more annoying people was there no I'm joking I think it was a mistake killing me off but I was ready to go you know we've been there a long time we had been there a while murdering a castle with Claudia Winkleman it was good wasn't it it was good but like did you ever know where you're like people work for the NHS and stuff like what how are we doing the entire length of it I was thinking that like what is going on here but it was fun oh it was wasn't it we made some good friends there we had made some good connections we connected didn't we yeah we did we did yeah it was it was lovely there was that moment and I'd completely forgotten about it where the round table I started going for Jonathan yeah and you turned around and said what's going on with you you're not this cocky during the day what's up with you yeah you'd suddenly like dialed it up hadn't you I was I know I saw that bit back and I was like I'm a bit shirty with you but it was because I could tell you thought it was me you had suspicions on me and I was genuinely hurt because I was like I thought you should have trusted me did you struggle with it then did you think like yeah you struggle with this isn't real life this is yeah you just went it is real life because you got really close to Kat didn't you yeah well we all was close to Kat but I think it was because yeah I felt like she would be the last person I mean I'm not but it was genuinely like oh my god I can't believe it's you because she went because we but you do do it if you get a friendship because she was like it's really not me honestly it's not me was it?

20:34what was your what was your actual first impression of Jo?

20:40Oh, that's a good question.

20:45When I first met you, I thought, it's on steroids. We all do. We all do. Did you? Yeah. Yeah. What gave you that impression? Well, the only men I have known you know who were stocky like you used to be on stereo because I don't know any spot. No, do you remember the chat when we were introducing each other and you said, what do you do? I went, I play rugby and you went, what, like union or league or what sort of rugby? And then that moment for me, it dawned on me really quickly and it was so good for me to have happen was the first moment that I actually realised that when you're in this big rugby bubble you think oh this is the biggest thing in the world you know it's massive it means everything you get into the real world people don't know who you are and you meet someone and they go I haven't got a clue who you are oh god and I was like yeah you're right you don't and then you just judge people on who they actually are not what they do but no I think it's better because if I'd have known you was and I could have been a bit intimidated couldn't I but I just thought you seemed to laugh you put me at ease and like you and Joe I think you'd You'd sort of got to know each other, you know, quite well.

22:10And I said, do you think he's a traitor? And he was like, nah, I know he's not. And he's like, he's really funny. And, you know, I just thought he was a laugh. He was a nice guy. You touched on earlier that you felt like I betrayed you a little bit. You did. You did betray me. Because I thought we'd formed a unit, you see. That's the thing, a faithful. And then you don't change your mind, do you? you're like, right, these are fearfuls. But then the game just spammed me out completely, mate. I thought Mark, I was adamant Mark was a traitor. I was 100 % set on him being a traitor just because I'd watched Line of Duty the night before.

22:50And he said the same. In that episode, he goes, that's a moot point. And I remember watching it. And the next day, we have a conversation. And for some reason, he said, that's a moot point. And I went, it's you. And he went, no, no, no, that's not. No, don't confuse me with the characters, but I couldn't get that out of my head. Oh, that's hilarious. I didn't know that. And I went, oh my God, it's Mark. And then all the exaggeration, I went, yeah, it's him. It's definitely him. I was adamant. And that's what the game, well, did to me. And that's why I then started looking around. I was like, the least likely people.

23:24I was like, well, Lucy, I've never considered you as a traitor, but I'm like, we're getting this so wrong. I think it might be you. Yeah, no, it makes sense.

23:37Let's talk about how you exited the show. Do you remember? Yeah. I remember. What was it? On a chessboard. Chessboard. What was your relationship like with chess before that happened to you? Honestly, I've really tried to stay away from chess. If I brought this out... Oh, God. I can't even look at it. How does it make you feel? This brings back bad memories, yeah, obviously from the show and I've always tried to avoid chess. I don't agree with chess. Agree with it? I don't agree with it, no. What do you mean you don't agree with it? Well, what's it about? It's satanic, isn't it? If you were a chess piece...

24:24Yeah. What piece do you think you'd be? The telephone.

24:34No, God, no. It's not Monopoly, is it?

24:40Wow, what are they? What pieces are they? I'm going to be straight with you. Yeah. I haven't got a fucking clue about chess. Have you ever played it? Jay, please help here. That's the horse, is it? So, yeah, you've got the knight, which can jump over players. A bit of a wild card, that one, quite chaotic. The one that looks a little bit like a boob, have you got that one there? No, to the left? Yeah, that one, that's the bishop. So that can go diagonal. What tits have you seen? Huh? Not many, really.

25:18And then you've got the pawns, they can only move one. They often sacrifice those little ones there. Pawn, how are you spelling that? P-A-W-N. Quite a big issue with porn at the minute, isn't it? Massively. But no age verification on chess, which is nice.

25:41Right, before we go any further, let's have a big shout-out to our sponsor of this week, Giacomo. Giacomo have every size from small all the way up to 5XL. Everyone's included. whether you're a big unit like me or a tiny little specimen like Jake. I don't get to sign off on the wording of any of this. On the subject of fashion, I feel now we are close enough that I can ask you this. What's with the shorts? What do you mean? What was it that made you think, I just always want my legs out? Don't get me wrong, they're glorious legs. I don't know, I just like shorts. Plus, I quite like air in my undercarriage.

26:24Sure. That's important. You don't want to get too stuffy. You like shorts. I fear them. Fear them? Well, I just think... What's about your legs? You've got to have really nice legs like you do. I've just got sort of like two little twiglets poking out. This is why something like Giacomo is good for everyone, okay? Because you've got men like you. Boys like me. You're a man. I'm a man, yeah, in some ways. You're a tiny, weenie man. You've got men like you, men like me. We can always find something that we want. They've got the brands for different mans. Huge. Barber for the posh mans. Ralph Lauren for the people on the holiday mans.

So whether you're medieval, sporty or a boss, bloody hell, they've got something for you. It's quite good, isn't it? Wow, this is huge. Giacomo, style and brands for every man.

27:26Now, I've been looking at your file. Yeah. You've captained the University of Hull in University Challenge. Yeah. And we won. Jake, did Lucy win on that? Well, if she says she did, yeah. I mean, I looked it up and said you lost, and I was like, oh, God, I don't want to counteract it. No, you're right. We did lose, yeah. You did lose? You did lose. Yeah, yeah. Lucy. Lying. Sorry. No, I honestly, for a moment, I thought we won. It's not going to help with our winning mentality. No, we won some rounds. Okay. So you're captain University of Hull on University Challenge. You toured with Hull Truck Theatre.

28:04You also created sitcoms called To Hull and Back and Hull Raisers. Would you say that you have a healthy, stable relationship with your hometown? It's the only place I feel like I fit in. Yeah? Yeah. Where do you live now? Sheffield. Well, even though you've moved out of it, you should take great inspiration for your love of Hull. There's lots of winners from Hull. I've actually got five here to inspire you. Big, well-known winners from Hull. Okay? I want you to rank them in order of most importance to the world. Yeah. they've contributed to the world and made a difference. Yeah. I'd like you to rank them.

28:50We've got Bongella. Oh, I hated Bongella. You didn't like it? No, you could just tell the kids at school their mums had part-time jobs because they brought Bongella in. Everyone else just had to get on with their ulcers and then it was a big giveaway, you know, it was like, oh, got a bit of money. LCD TVs. I used to sell them. Chip Spice. Yeah. Dry Shampoo. Birth of anti-slavery movement. You guys got a lot going for it. You need to rank them in order of most importance, please. Okay. Well, obviously, the birth of anti-slavery movement. Were you going to put that as number one? Yeah, well, I think so, but then that was a long, long time ago, so it's maybe not as a...

29:38It's the birthplace of William Wilberfast, you see. So you put in the birth of anti-slavery movement as number one? Yeah. Really? Why do you not think it is? Well, just in the research, in an interview with The Guardian, I think you said the best thing about Hull was chip spice. Jake, is that true? January 2015, lifestyle column, yeah. But I meant, you know how I get the two mixed up? always doing that on the traitors, weren't they?

30:17Luce, we have covered some very interesting topics today. Yeah. Has it now helped you take that next step to that winning mentality? No.

30:31Yeah. Yeah, it's all helpful. Yeah. So do you feel like we've really helped you today? Yeah, yeah, definitely. understand a little bit more about yourself yeah I'm going to go on Strictly now and on the back of this yeah where do you think you'll place in Strictly?

30:53last no I'm going to win it you're going to win it yeah you're a winner yeah you are a winner let me hear you say it I am a winner I am a winner I am a winner Lucy you are a winner and you can leave this session a winner Thank you. But before you do... Yeah. We need to give you something. Just to remind you, because I think those doubts will come back, but you need something to look down at and go... Winner. Right, so...
