0:40Yo, what's up? Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Monday, May 26, 2026. I'm your host, Blessing, Addy Oye Jr. Joining me is Video Game Chronicles' own Jordan Midler. Jordan, welcome to the show. Hello, mate. How are you? I'm doing well, Jordan. How are you doing? it's really really warm in scotland today um and i i know that like the the heat of the uk is like a bit of a a bit of a dead meme at this point but this is 24 uh celsius don't know what that is you gotta you gotta convert that jordan you gotta convert 24 that's cold to me yeah that's freezing 24 i assume that's probably like 150 celsius uh 150 fahrenheit okay well that that can't be scientifically warm it's been warm and our houses are built to um keep the warmth in so there's no there's no breathability in our houses there's no um oxygen coming in and um permeating through my brain so as the quality of broadcasting declines during this show and the next one please blame the scottish um industrial complex listen one i'm excited to have you because of course you're on this episode of games daily you're also going to be on the games cast after this like you mentioned right for the 007 first light review i gotta mention of course san francisco doesn't really get that hot we have a bunch of microclimates and still there are places in the bay area that do get hot but for the most part sf pretty chilly over the weekend though i was in chattanooga tennessee let me tell you you want to experience if you want to experience humid heat jordan hang out in chattanooga for a weekend also shout out to kevin kevin did the conversion 24 celsius is about 75.2 degrees fahrenheit which honestly that's that's not that bad 75 degrees fahrenheit yeah um it gets up to like it's meant to be 30 uh c over the the end of the week which it does get pretty humid and also we don't have air conditioning that's one thing and possibly you know what thing america does correctly is amazing air conditioning we don't have it that's also that's very fair that does change the game and also 30c that's about 86 fahrenheit which is like that's where it is you got to be inside with air conditioning on and like for us yeah in the bay area a lot of buildings don't have air conditioning but also it never gets to 86 degrees fahrenheit here um also also you have that nice breeze off the sea this is incredibly boring chat so everyone else you can go away but that nice breeze off the off the ocean of san francisco that must be nice i like the way you say breeze you say it with the finesse jordan jordan i'm excited to have you here for multiple reasons one because you're one of my favorite reporters in the business you you do great work over there at video games chronicle love reading your articles uh but then also i can talk to you about 007 first light because reviews are in um we're going to talk about it in review roundup and specifically on this show i want to talk about the context surrounding reviews because it was a very interesting review period for 007 first light we're going to get all into it but before that remember if you're watching live you can be a part of the show by super chatting in over on youtube.com slash kind of funny games just like shadow stay no shadow slain did uh who writes in and says hey kfam i was worried about y 'all over the weekend very glad you didn't blow up and hope everyone is safe i don't know what that means i don't know if that's a 007 thing or or if i missed a reference on a show on friday but thank you so much for that we got one from big curves who writes in and says there's a change.org petition going around for destiny 3 look i know it probably won't matter but it is at 230k as of now consider and then he links the change.org petition midler do you know anything about this change.org petition um no but the the breakdown of the people that lost destiny last week was quite amazing it was like every single article was like destiny 2 is the worst game i've ever played and i'm devastated that it's going away so i understand that there's still a big community for this um but considering how much it would cost to make a destiny 3 if this change.org petition had 2.7 billion signatures as maybe sony would think about it but it's not on the cards i'm afraid yeah i don't know how i feel about a change.org position to to have a company work on a specific game that's going to cost them millions and millions of dollars and like honestly at this point with how the game's history is put what put their business at risk i understand that like i think for the fans there's a general feeling that bungie is already possibly on the chopping block and people are scared for the future of the company i don't know if the fans taking the wheel and going hey we want you to do this because us as fans know better than you of what your business needs to do i don't i don't really particularly like that but also i get the feeling from destiny fans i understand wanting to see maybe your favorite franchise continue and so if you're if you're destiny fan like you know do your thing support it can't be too we can't be too harsh on them that in a moment of mourning and then like obviously they haven't been super happy with destiny for a while but i think the actual post of them coming out and being like yeah that's actually it hit harder for most people than they'd expected so i can't make fun of them too much i understand 100 i mean listen you should have seen me when they shut down knock knockout city you know i was oh what a game man i'm always talking about knockout city i'm it's such it was such a fantastic game there are still ways to play it like they didn't completely shut it down shut it down but it's not up officially anymore and so like you could do custom servers or some shit like that but like that's it's tough to make happen do you think knockout city appealed to your unbelievable need to play 55 different sports every year it was like football for a long time and now you're a volleyball man what's the latest yeah i think that i i think there is that i'm also just i like competition and i like hell I do like sporty competition.
6:34I like Call of Duty. I like a lot of shooting games, but that's not really... I think for me, I like weird, very specific type of competitive games. And so Knockout City kind of appealed to the, oh shit, I've not played anything like this before, and this is fun, and I can get really good at this. It's the same way that fighting games speak to me. I think there's something about learning a specific language of a video game and going, I want to get better than everybody at this specific language. knockout city was such a good one and we'll definitely get to it but i had that feeling with bond where when i started to piece together the melee combat i was like i need my fights to look amazing and cinematic yeah and if i fucked up i'd be like we said i have to do this again i have to pretend i'm being filmed at this point but we'll talk about it what a game man what a game also jason jace on there in chat says destiny was good at that here's the thing i don't think i've ever talked about it but destiny 2 competitive in 2017 i was locked the fuck in i was i was taking people out in destiny 2 competitive back in the day i love that stuff and so honestly also i'll sign the petition like if we can get that back hell yeah uh remember we couldn't do this without our producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you to carl jacobs omega and delaney the psalm twining for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news we have six stories today
8:08starting with our number one we got a 007 first light review roundup for you we're gonna start off with luke riley actually no i messed up i didn't put the metacritic here the meta there's It's sitting around like an 88 on Metacritic. As I'm talking, I'm Googling it real quick. 007 First Light on Metacritic right now, sitting at an 87. Open Critic. Let's see. If I type in Open Critic here. Open Critic, it is sitting at a... 89. Pretty high. 89. 89 on Open Critic. Starting off with Luke Riley at IGN. Luke Riley put up a review so far, meaning it's not scored because they haven't finished the game yet.
8:50They say, since its arrival at IGN over the weekend, I put around 14 hours into first light over the last two days. I'm going to bold the part where it says over the weekend because I want to come back to that, Jordan. This appears to have brought me to within a couple of chapters of the end of the story, which feels likely to take a few more hours based on the generally juicy lengths of each chapter I've played to date. I've been very happy with the pace so far, and since the world around Bond has been so thoughtfully and convincingly fleshed out, I'm finding it largely impossible to rush. Whether it's Bond's London apartment or the bustling MI6 headquarters, First Light seats its iconic secret agent in the believable world that doesn't fall to pieces the second you try to scrutinize it.
9:37As a Bond fan, it's delightfully immersive. Mark Delaney at GameSpot gave it an 8 out of 10 and says, In the end, IO's take on James Bond was actually more like Hitman than I expected, but that's not to say it's simply Hitman by another name. As someone who has loved that series for nearly 25 years, it's fascinating to see IO apply everything it's learned. 007 First Light wisely repurposes what works in both universes, but isn't afraid to reimagine or ditch those parts that don't. Though some aspects of the game do hinder the pacing, so much else feels authentic and riveting. As Hollywood seems uncertain about where to take Bond next, IO Interactive's debut effort is supremely confident.
10:18Quote, James Bond will return, the movies always like to say. If and when IO's Bond returns, it'll have a great first act to follow. And finally, Jordan Midler at Video Games Chronicle gave it 5 out of 5 stars and says 007 First Light might just be the best James Bond game ever. The way IO Interactive has translated the Bond fantasy into a 14-hour globe-trotting epic is masterful. It's a game full of spectacle, humor, action, and romance. Everything James Bond should be. New Bond owners Amazon must ensure this franchise continues. Hear, hear. Whoever wrote that last one, bang on the money. Hear, hear.
10:57Indeed. That person should get into more games writing, you know? That person should... If only they had the time to do it. They should start a podcast. Yeah. Got a lot of energy drinks to review in the meantime. but um yeah the there i there was a moment on batter day when i was really in the meat of the game and i received a text from a known deviant dan reichert um who was really high on it and i was like okay it's not just me like these feelings i'm getting are as so i knew these reviews would come in strong we'll also talk about it i feel like they chopped like two or three points off their metacritic the way they handled these codes but that's just the way of it yeah it's funny i so you know i don't want to give my full full review because i'll be one i haven't finished the game and then also i'm going to be on the games cast as well but i'll talk about it because we also bregg's played quite a bit of it andy's or not andy tim's played quite a bit of it barrett beat the game and he'll be on the ones and twos and so you'll hear way more impressions on the games cast uh as well but for me jordan it was a similar thing where i was playing it in the living room on I think it was Sunday it was either Sunday or yesterday and my roommate Michael Haim from IGN walks in shout out Michael Haim and he's like how are you liking it and it was as I spilled my thoughts to him where I was like oh I love this game like I was kind of like still in the process of putting together my thoughts because I think I was about maybe seven or eight hours in at that point right now I'm past the 10 hour mark of the game and I'm past I'm past halfway through the game right.
12:31I'm like talking to him. I'm like, yeah, and they do this thing. And like, I really like the story. I think this character is really charming. And I think it looks incredible. And this reminds me of this. But then this also reminds me of this. And I kept talking, talking, talking. And I had to pause myself and go, oh, shit. I really, really like this game, which saddens me that I don't have a full review. Because as of like my 10-hour mark, I'm like, yo, this is masterful work in my opinion. But Jordan, I want to hear more about your thoughts here, right? like you're talking about they got to ensure this franchise continues you know again we're going to hear from you during the review but do you want to break down your review any further here i just think that it's the whole there's a line in my review about not being surprised when licensed games are good anymore because they have been for a long time but when i can't when a developer gets a character to this extent it's still special so i think of insomniac uh spider-man i think of indiana jones from machine games games that don't feel like a generic game with a character applied to them is the ethos of that character made into a video game and the fact that they've used so much of what they've learned from hitman be that immaculate level design be that great writing a lot of humor really really well pitched well paced humor and just generally an experience that it honestly brought to mind the uncharted games and for a game in that genre it's kind of the highest praise i can give i could not stop playing it like i flew through that game even with the short time we had i was finished that game on like sunday morning like i just could not stop myself playing it i so i had i had the opposite in a positive way where i was so for context this the code for this game came in on friday meeting many outlets had about half a business day uh to have their hands on this game of course yesterday was memorial day so it was holiday in the u.s and so it's either you're playing this game through the weekend or through the holiday or you're doing what ign did when i think a lot of outlets did which is we'll put up a review so far and we'll let our reviewers have more time with it right because i think this is a game that warrants that kind of time and being being able to not have to rush through it yesterday i was at a place where i was like okay or this weekend i should say i was at a place where like i mentioned i was in chattanooga tennessee for my cousin's wedding at a fantastic time i didn't get back until late saturday meaning that if i wanted to play through this game for our review today i would have had to play through essentially all of sunday and monday and just lock in on only playing this game not really knowing how long it is but assuming it's probably somewhere in the 15 to 20 20 hour range i think that's been confirmed now that the game is in that 15 to 20 hour range yesterday as I was playing, I hit a point where I was like, I love this game so much that I cannot allow myself to just beat it today.
15:29I need to let myself savor this game. I got done with the mission. I was at the start of the next one and I'm in just a beautiful environment where I'm on the water, the waves are flowing, there's mountains in the background, it's a gorgeous vista. And I'm like, I'm not going to push myself to play through this I need to take the slow because I'm enjoying it that much it is my it's what I want out of an action blockbuster I'm just gonna get into it now I'm getting to my review now I love I know interactive for what they do with hitman I've said this before and I'll say it again you know I love a stealth game I love Metal Gear Solid 5 I love Dishonored 2 I think hitman is at the peak of stealth gameplay design I think what I with that has just been second to none so to see them transition into a 007 game that like you mentioned does a lot of uncharted like action sequences there's a lot of set pieces there's a lot of um you know debris flying and explosions happening and crazy shit happening on screen one extremely impressed by that from a io interactive having not really seen this level of that from them before but then also having having charming characters having a cast of characters that i really care about and love having a story that is surprising me still and i'm i'm really enjoying and then on top of all that still maintaining their excellent sense of level design and stealth gameplay and finding ways to take that and make it more approachable to a broader audience of players i i'm so blown away the the way i've been thinking about it um and i was telling this to my roommate right of like you know there's there's dark chocolate and there's milk chocolate and for me hitman is that dark chocolate right like it's for more specific tastes if you love chocolate more than anybody else you might lean towards a hitman because this is that refined like you know it might be it might be bitter but you like the bitterness if you really like chocolate you want that dark chocolate but the milk chocolate of 007 first light is fucking great in the way that it's sweeter it's more it's easier to take in um but that doesn't necessarily make it any worse in my opinion like i think the ways they find um they find ways to like make it more palpable for a wider audience also make it a great game it's not like they're watering it down um and that's the thing i'm like really blown away by by this game yeah i think that the you pretty much nailed it there i think literally the only mechanic that lets it down in my opinion is the driving which i think is quite poor but the rest of it they're introducing so many things to you at such a high speed and when you get into these larger levels like the one that's been shown on the screen right now you can go through the main path but like all the hitman levels there are multiple paths that are like little not side quests besides stories that you might miss depending on how you approach your target and things like that so i think it's a game that like hitman will reward replayability and i also think that it's kind of as you touched on there some of the greatest moments in hitman i feel like you would only find out about them because afterwards you would check the challenge and it would be like what do you mean kill this character in this way how was i supposed to know how to do that whereas this game is very much more like i am going to i'm going to give you the opportunities i'm going to um show you what you can do if you want to and some of it can still be left to intuition as far less uh free uh free flowing than the hitman games but i think it works in its favor in this case yeah um it's so funny because kevin's playing the you know this gameplay segment and i'm like damn i didn't realize you can go that way like i'm already like damn i that would have been easier than the way i did it somebody in chat is asking what is what's the white chocolate then that's mine's eye you know like mine's eye is the white chocolate and i'll not be explaining any further um jordan let's talk about let's talk about it this code came in on friday yep what the fuck man yeah this is a weird one um i i preface this with we have the best job in the world however yeah the this is a case where it's not just oh i really need to dig in and get this done this is a case where like i said i think this is legitimately hurt the reviews that it got and the scores that it got there is no way to as a human being like remove yourself from the situation of i've had to play this all in one big chunk and while that didn't impact me as i said i flew right through it i think there are some people that probably through necessity of time missed some of the great elements of this game or just didn't take the time to explore all of the big levels just kind of went for the golden path and i have no idea why they why they did this they deployed a day one patch on like sunday or something like that and i downloaded it and the game didn't look markedly different or run markedly different so there's a lot of there's a lot of pet theories going about twitter that it's because amazon are being super controlling of it and mgm and all these things but i i don't know i think it's a shame i think even four or five more days with this would have really set it up um when prs always ask me i always say the gold standard for this stuff is playstation because they send codes so early nine times out of ten and i genuinely think that is at least part of the factor why they have such incredible review scores because you can play games differently and you can come up with not better criticism but more informed criticism because you've not had to rush something yeah yeah 100 right like i i you know i i want to make clear that we're not old review codes by any stretch of the imagination you know like you at at the end of the day it's on the the dev and the people who own the game to decide how they want to go about coverage for it and so like if you don't want to send review codes like you don't have to send review codes in my personal opinion I think it benefits everybody involved, especially for a game like this where the game's great.
21:38You know, it's not like this is a bad game. Usually if a code comes in really late, it's concerning. It's like, oh, you're trying to hide something. But for a game like this, I think it would benefit everybody involved. One, it benefits, I guess starting from my angle, benefits the people reviewing the game because, like you mentioned, you're able to take your time with it. And also, you're able to actually make better content or at least make finished content. you look online and you look at the reviews and like i mentioned ijen review so far kind of funny most of us have not beaten the game right and like you know for us and i know me and you jordan we're in different situations because i'm in the u.s we had a holiday yesterday um you know at least you i assume you had work um yesterday i actually don't know how time zones work no it was a it was a bank holiday yesterday in the uk um so um it wasn't for whatever your guys's was but it was just the yeah that's actually good i did not know that yeah i said this in our discord i feel weird about the situation because had i been divorced from the idea of reviewing this game and i just got the game say the the friday previous there's still a good chance i would have also just completed it by the sunday because i was enjoying it that much so like the material impact on me wasn't massive however and i don't blame the pr people for this because i'm sure they were tearing their hair out not having a full scored review on ign is a dereliction of duty like they're like the last bastion of major games media so for them to have to in progress it people can't be happy with that yes and that's my that's one of the other angles i was going to take right of you know it being good for us as people who are covering the video games obviously but then also it being good for double seven first light to have the really glowing reviews coming out on day one because I think that is such a strong marketing beat because the game is I believe out for the 24 early access as of today out for everybody else I believe tomorrow if I have that correct and so like this would have been such a great marketing beat for that regardless I think the game's going to do well it's 007 and it's a really great game and I think no matter what that's going to spread and people are going to understand that but then finally I think it would be great for the audience to be able to make a full informed decision there are enough reviews out there impressions out there that of course if you're looking for that feedback on okay is the game good that i want to buy yes like you can find that online but i i think for everybody involved it helps when it is all right we got the full impressions i can make a an informed purchasing decision because it got the eight nine or ten from igan and from these other outlets and the open critic is this i can spend my you know hard-earned money on a full price to video game because I trust these people or I don't trust these people.
24:19Absolutely. That said, man, I can't wait to talk about this game more during the review because I have so much to say, Jordan. When I finished the game, I literally went, oh, because the last couple of frames are so good. I was like, I got like full body chills and I'm not a cynical person by any stretch of the imagination. I still absolutely adore video games, but I play so many of them that it's rare that I get that kind of, oh, this is, that's just absolute cinema kind of stuff where the ending of bond my god i cannot wait let's move on to story number two but before we do let me tell you about patreon.com slash kind of funny and youtube.com slash kind of funny games where you can go and get the kind of funny membership which allows you to get shows ad free and speaking of ads let us tell you about our sponsors

There's a lot of back and forth going on about chocolate right now. And I just want to shout out.
26:58I didn't mean to be so mean to white chocolate. I don't think it's as good as milk chocolate or dark chocolate, but I don't hate white chocolate. You know what I love, though? hershey's cookies and cream can we agree that that's fire it's this every hershey product is disgusting like it just tastes so so bad anytime when the first couple of times you go to the u.s and you hear about like oh let's try all these brands that we've heard on film and television and things like that you try hershey's and you're like get me back to do the old blighty get me a cadbury's dairy milk right this moment jordan what the fuck are you saying right now what are those words a cadbury's dairy milk um a crunchy oh a crunchy is a top tier chocolate bar let me tell you that for nothing crunchy is that like a crunch a crunchy it's like a honeycomb center with like a light layer of milk chocolate around it sensational very light i'm not actually a massive chocolate fan i think it gets quite sickly but this is the perfect amount of chocolate hershey's not chocolate sorry if you have an ad read for them coming up but i don't work for you here's what's happening you know because i've tried some of your people's chocolate over there my people okay listen i've tried some of the european chocolate y 'all be doing too much man just give me chocolate look at this it's like what are you doing too much no that's a that's a perfect chocolate bar look at that little honeycomb center i don't want a honeycomb center i just want chocolate over the top you want like a cartoon chocolate bar that's just a brick of chocolate yes that's what i'm here for no wonder your country's in the state is and with those kind of opinions let me tell you that for nothing i mean you're not wrong you're not i can't argue against that let's move on to story number two is it finally time for that rumored witcher 3 dlc uh i am pulling from a tweet coming from at the witcher on twitter where they say Toussaint the land of love and wine join us on May 28th at 5 p.m uh CEST for a special anniversary stream of The Witcher 3 blood and wine together oh I'm gonna try it with Casper Nipo Kolzicki oh I don't think I nailed it Nipo Kolzicki I think is that what it is and Magdalena Zeke will return once more to the land of knights vineyards and vampires uh stream will be live on our youtube and twitch channels we'll be waiting for you in toussaint and in chat i have a graphic up here that's just the thursday may 28th jordan i assume you've been keeping up with the rumors of the witcher 3 but a new witcher 3 dlc do you think this has anything to do with that less rumors and more said that project saying yeah yeah we're gonna we're definitely doing this um i think you know this is how i see it playing out right let me do uh north stradonymous for um really old fans um i think they tease the dlc at the end of this it gets announced at jeff's show and then they show witcher 4 at xbox and witcher 4 is like a 2029 game or something like that so they've made this dlc as like an interim thing to keep the excitement and the franchise alive put your house on it if it doesn't happen then whatever but i don't think they announced something as significant as an expansion to the witcher 3 in this way especially because that's that's a very jeff coded announcement in my opinion how big do you think the dlc is i andy's been checking out blood and wine for the first time and he's been very glowing about how good it is and it makes me wonder do it what 10 years 11 years after the release of witcher 3 do you got it and you need to put out something that's going to be that level or is this going to be like a quest or two that's something smaller i suppose it depends how they frame it the way that we have kind of spoke about it as we are instantly going in that expansion mold like what if this is a transitional story between three and four and thus it is like a bigger kind of meteor project than we expect i think whatever they announce it to be in reality it'll be far bigger because the project always do that um so yeah this is this is certainly happening like it doesn't take them to actively be like a nudge nudge wink wink but i just don't think that it happens on this stream it could be like a well come back at sgf live for for our next announcement which you could frame as like oh are they going to talk about what you're for are they going to talk about the expansion i think you see both of them over the weekend i couldn't tell you exactly where though that's so fun well so you're you're you're saying almost like a a witcher 3.8 you know witcher 3.9 basically something that's like we are completely closing the book this is the last thing we want to do with this game it's like the most important game in the history actually question for you and for the chat what was more important to say the project the witcher 3 or cyberpunk oh witcher 3 i think so as well yeah i think that could change maybe after the next cyberpunk game i think cyberpunk has the juice but i i think witcher 3 is just so quality overall and i'm saying this is somebody who like i like cyberpunk more than which are more than witcher but i think witcher 3 is it's untainted by anything you know what i mean people love witcher 3 without any caveat cyberpunk you always have to be like oh yeah well launched weird and i think that's going to follow it even going into the next cyberpunk game i think people might be a little bit nervous around the launch state of it still yeah yeah i think you don't get to cyberpunk without the witcher 3 obviously but as you say i think we look at this in 15 years when we are still doing this and then i think you can maybe see like where they where they it's much like uncharted in the last of us where uncharted was naughty dog's main thing and then the second uh their second big franchise the last of us starts off and they're trading off for a while and then it's just their main thing uh going forward but yeah yes and and sure i think this will be uh maybe not the size of blood and wine but i think it will be a case of fans getting into it and going jesus christ why why are you doing this for a game that's so old thank you yeah there's somebody in chat that says witcher 3 walked so that cyberpunk would run and i would argue that witcher 3 ran so that cyberpunk could get a walking start and then get to a run eventually you know so i think both are important though i think i think both are at a place where they can anchor that company um but witcher i think witcher is a bit more important to get right let's move on to story number three unreal engine 6 has been revealed as rocket league gets a new coat of paint this is michael cripe and michael payton at ign i have an article that i'm going to read real quick and then kevin i want to watch the video with sound where they reveal it getting to the article though epic games developer psionics has published a sneak peek at an updated version of rocket league running in unreal engine 6 revealing a first look at its new logo the new coat of paint was revealed at the rocket league championship series paris major it comes with a reveal trailer for an updated version of the studio's popular action sports game as well as a first look at epic's new purple logo for unreal engine 6 epic and psionics have not explained the specific advantages unreal engine 6 brings over its predecessor with the reveal trailer mostly serving to show how the new version of the game will come with shiny new visuals for players to enjoy.
34:24It does, however, confirm that everything shown was captured in real time, or sorry, captured real time in game. The reveal also marks the first time Epic has shown any footage of any game running in Unreal Engine 6. For comparison, Unreal Engine 5 was announced with a lengthier tech demo created specifically to show off the power of the new technology. While that experience never resulted in a full video game for players to get their hands on, Rocket League is very much real. Kevin, if you can play the video.
34:55This is happening at the Rocket League Championship.
35:00Nick Scarpino:I never miss it.
35:05I like this guy's outfit.
35:17Jordan's doing the real-time reaction there. Captured real-time in-game.
35:26Oh shit, it's shinier.
35:32New era, new engine.
35:39Rocket loop.
35:45Then you get the U6 logo reveal. Kevin, you can cut it there. Oh my god! Jordan, we're still back. you know we're here oh yeah we're so bad i never missed the paris major video games healed no yeah no rocket league's a class game and i understand why they use it as like a as a template for stuff like this because it's like it's very hard to mess it up it's about like okay we're going to do unreal engine 6 chess like we know how the gameplay of this works let us just like use the new engine on this stuff so i think that the um it's a cool way to announce it why didn't they call why aren't they calling it rocket league 2 bless that's my question for you i mean you saw what happened to overwatch 2 does the two matter oh god rest up the two the two does not matter anymore it's the same game it's not like they're going to change the game or anything like that um i actually prefer this way of going about it you know just like just give me the update make the game look better it's going to be the same game cool you're doing u6 i guess i didn't really so i didn't feel the weight of unreal engine 5
36:50maybe not but like the i feel like uh an engine announcement should be a woman in a canyon who shoots like birds out of her hands and the birds fly through the canyon and then they turn into big dragons and it's like oh look at all these fucking pixels man oh my god this is uh this is maybe a more realistic way to approach it like here's it actually running in a game that you know yeah it looks much better than the game that you know but it's still the game you know um i wonder how how quickly big devs will want to translate over to that because so many there's like a billion stories on vgc of recent games being like yeah this is an unreal engine 5 and now suddenly it's like okay it's unreal engine 6 time so i feel like this is maybe far in the future for most devs yeah um cool though like i'm i like seeing technology improve but i also think i'm i i think i'm at the point and i'm definitely i'm a different person than a tim or an andy where I know they they see the details they see the matrix they see the the lighting effects and like they can talk to you about the nanites and lumites and all that stuff for me I'm like I don't I I'm sure that looks slightly better I guess like that's kind of where I'm like I'm like okay cool yeah games will look better it's not something that makes me drop everything and go I want to check out every single detail but I'm excited for those that do love this shit so you're saying you're not a nerd oh I'm definitely not saying that I'm not I'm not a fidelity nerd although speaking of yeah what what did you play bond on the professional oh dude i i play so i've been playing on both my ps5 uh base in my room on a small monitor and then also i've been playing it on my ps5 pro in my living room on my brand new oled tv i got an lgo led jordan i don't know if you heard about this oh an lgo led you say i got an lgo led let me tell you a bond on the pro on the professional on the og on the lgo led oh man that shit looks sexy those are some fucking graphics that should have been like a 170 gig game and it wasn't it was only like 60 or something like that the amount of graphics per inch that are fitting into that game it's yeah it should have been 69 you know what i mean because that shit was story number four remedy's new ceo says alan wakin control should have sold more and a movie slash TV deal will help us do that.
39:09This is Andy Robinson at Video Games Chronicle. Never heard of him. Remedy's new CEO has said that Alan Wake and Control Games should have sold more and that a television and movie deal could help them reach a broader audience. Former Electronic Arts Executive Jean-Charles Goduchon was appointed as the Finnish studio's new CEO earlier this year, having previously worked on Battlefield and the FIFA series. Speaking of the game business, Goduchon said he wants Remedy to continue making the kind of games it's always made, but look at ways it can turn those critical hits into commercial ones. Quote, Remedy is already one of the biggest game authors with very strong signature products, he said.
39:48Now, after seeing it from the inside, there's so much more we can give in terms of super strong authored, creative, crazy stories and gameplay. Honestly, we haven't achieved half of the potential in terms of the products that we make, end quote. He then added, But his franchises, Control, Alan Wake, etc. could give a lot more. There's a vision on thinking bigger for some of these IPs, which need to find its audience much, much further than the current audience. It's super exciting. Part of the strategy is a deal signed before Godishan's appointment, which could see Annapurna produce Control in Alan Wake TV shows and movies.
40:22The exec told the game business that he sees this as one way of turning Remedy's IP into broader franchises. Quote, we need to think more about how we are approaching our IPs as a franchise, he said. How do we grow community? Our deal with Annapurna goes into making our games, our franchises shine further and reach an audience that doesn't exist today. It's a pity. I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more. To me, that's one of the first things we need to fix, even before trying to make more games to a certain extent. First of all, maximize the potential of the ones we have, because they're incredible.
40:56and cross media is going to help us do that and whoa jordan will cross media help them do that honestly maybe for these games i think an alan wake limited series would go so fucking hard like give it to the right people and i think that universe is just it's already so cinematic less less so controlled but i think alan wake's the one you would focus on and do like an eight episode series it's like fargo or something like that like that kind of uh vibe um i think that the the alan wake situation is interesting because the first game came out people really liked it it was like a kind of a if i was to guess it's like an 81 metacritic or something like that but it was like a slow burner it didn't sell particularly well even sam lake had to come out and be like we can't make another alan wake we're sorry we're going to make these other things like quantum break and stuff but alan wake 2 is like one of the best games i've ever played and the fact that that is not that is a game that has not been played by anywhere near the amount of people that should have um i i feel kind of um i feel bad for them i absolutely love remedy they're one of my favorite developers in the world so if if this is an approach that gets more people to play their games then i'm all for it as long as the various teams at remedy like you've got your control team you've got the team that's making sam lake's new game as long as they are left alone to make what are some of the most impressive games in the industry then then that's fine in my opinion alarm bells aren't immediately raised yeah i i agree with you i i think there's a little bit of the quote that kind of gives the embracer we need to exploit lord of the rings kind of thing here but i you know you're a ceo do your ceo thing as long as you're not getting in the way of the developers that are making alan wake and control and max pain you know let them do their thing let them make amazing games and then yeah make your movies and tv shows i do think that Control would make a fantastic TV show.
42:51I would watch the hell out of a Control TV show, actually. You know, I think there are fun things that you can do with Alan Wake. I don't, I think I get nervous about the idea that making TV shows and movies is going to be the thing to help us sell our games to the amount of audience that we want to sell them to. Because then I think you're, I get scared of the idea of like, all right, but what if the TV shows and movies end up not being good? Does that then fuck up your games business, right? Like how much pressure are you putting into the cross media business to then elevate the games business?
43:24I don't, I think that kind of scares me a little bit, but I would hope that they got their heads on straight and aren't looking at it that way. Right? Like I, as I look up sales for Alan Wake too, it seems like the last I could find is that it sold over 2 million, but that looks like it was like a year ago. I understand the idea of looking at that and going, we could go bigger, but yeah, I think it made it, made its money back and obviously it got lathered in awards which is which is important to developers but i can i can see their perspective i also totally forgot that they're making that max pain game obviously it's um the word on the street is that it's on the back burner until rockstar's other game that you might have heard of gets released but i think that could also be a massive um deal for them look i think uh they make great games and that's not always enough but if they can have a if they can have a side of the studio or if they can have the studio that makes great games and then that's kind of like business figure above them like not touching the game stuff but dealing with all the other stuff then fine like yeah like the strauss zelnick which problematic figure sure but he had a quote recently that someone asked him on a podcast one of these stupid podcasts that he goes on asked him about like oh how do you improve the game and he was like i don't touch the game making the game isn't my job like my my job is completely divorced from rockstar themselves it's something completely different and if that's the approach then fine it's just when the c-suite gets infected into the game development side i think we can um worry yeah i think the only thing that makes me worry majorly is when the games don't support the games business you know i don't want the tv and movie to be the anchor that that allows the game business to continue to live you have to look at what your games are doing and go this is enough or like you know how do we make that enough right like it's a weird balance again when we're talking about what video game what the video games industry is today where oftentimes you look around and it seems like oh shit the games aren't enough we're putting in all this budget and you're only seeing so much return and the shareholders or whatever are looking for more money and it's causing everything to kind of you know get caught on fire and you're doing layoffs and studio closures we're in a vicious cycle right now with with all that shit and so like i definitely understand looking at alan wick 2 selling let's say for the sake of it 2 million and going oh we need we need more i guess i guess i don't understand it because i'm like 2 million should be good but like you i don't want the tv and movie stuff to be the thing that we lean on that's the only that's the only thing i i get scared of i totally get that um i i think that the i would watch anything that has the remedy seal of approval but i suppose then i don't want to get like into this for an hour but then you get into the thing of like well if the games team are working on the game stuff does that mean that like the creative directors of the original source material aren't as involved in the tv show like one of the reasons the last of us show was so well received is because neil was so heavily involved but if the other guys are making stuff i don't know um we'll see i'm looking forward to control resonant i love that first game i think this is going to be very different so i'm looking forward to seeing what that's all about 100 story number five a report from dave aubrey at vgc oh dreams and little big planet studio media molecules developing a new open world ip jordan i've been seeing this name dave aubrey more on vgc is this a new guy who's dave aubrey uh dave breens aubrey as a um well-traveled video game reporter it was previously uh like the gamer and did stuff for like um good luck have fun which was a an agency that sold stories to all these different big american um brands like if you saw this might not be one specifically but if you saw like a fifa review on sports illustrated who don't have a gaming section obviously dave would be your man for that kind of thing so he's been doing some stuff for us recently and he's a he's a lovely fellow he's a fellow bald which is great that means that there's there's another one of us so yes um look out for it it goes by breens if you want if you want to look him up on social media breens bald brains b-r-e-e-n-s bald brains all right well this is bald brains video games chronicle british playstation studio media molecule is reportedly working on a new open world ip the report comes courtesy of mp first and an online portfolio from a senior environment designer who has been with the studio since april 2025 the portfolio specifies that the designer is working with media molecule on an unannounced new or an unannounced project comma new ip their duties involve quote level blocking out main pois that's points of interest moment-to-moment gameplay forge design and scripting various gameplay elements elsewhere in the portfolio quote open world content is mentioned paired with forge design it certainly could hint at survival or crafting mechanics that have become common in other open world experiences and the aforementioned main POIs are an established feature of most open world titles.
48:30In May 2024, Media Molecule co-founder Mark Healy shared some info on what he knew of the project saying, quote, I don't know exactly what their state, what state their project is in now. I don't think it's secret news that they're working on a new IP, for example. I would dare to go as far as saying it's more of a game than a creative tool from what i understand about it end quote he left the studio in 2023 and john beach stepped up as the new creative director for the studio in 2020 in april 2023 media molecule announced that it was ending support for dreams in october 2023 media molecule laid off 15 to 20 percent of its staff a state of play is planned for june 2nd but there's no reason to believe that we'll see media molecules game at the event jordan how how closely do you pay attention to a studio like media molecule were you into dreams or little big planet or anything like that loved little big planet um i thought dreams was really interesting when i was a jobbing um freelancer for a while when i was trying to do my own thing i was like what if i did a series where i tried to review every game on dreams which i thought would be quite funny became completely untenable within the first like episode of it but um i really want media molecule to survive there must be some reason they've not been shuttered yet that feels like a if you were a sony suit they've not had a massive hit game in a very long time so i there there must be some faith in this game and obviously the talent list at media molecule is absolutely ridiculous so i hope for their sake i hope for their sake it is a game and not a creative tool because creative tools were very exciting and user generated content is very popular these days but people don't want great user generated content they want roblox shite that is made by like man that's a good point people the such a good point the quality doesn't matter so investing all this time into something that can make great games doesn't feel like an approach that would work whereas if they just used the the time to make something completely new pick off a new ip for playstation which kind of needs new ips to be honest when was like obviously saros is just yeah yeah but if you think of the the the new ips that are in the the intro logo to playstation as games that haven't had a new entry in like three years like astrobots like the last one i can think of it feels like will be a going concern for a long time so yes i wish the absolute it best for them um but um i don't know i want to see it sooner rather than later because the longer it takes to be shown the more likely as it goes away so i would like to talk about it yeah i am i agree with you i i do love media molecule as a studio particularly i really really dig dreams um or at least i dug dreams i'm not i've honestly not booted up dreams in i'll say months i definitely booted up dreams like i think sometime in the last six months but it's not like i booted up often sometimes i booted up just to show off show a friend like yo check out this shit you know dream is actually filled with some crazy shit um i as far as why playstation keeps them who knows i'm glad they do because again i think that studio is filled with creativity i do think playstation has a balance of like you know we want to look for we want to get sales out of our products but i also think they cherish that like high performing metacritic um style studios right and i think media molecule does well enough like you look up dreams on metacritic and it's at an 89 that's really high you know um and i think there's enough skill with that studio that you can continue to put out great games and your next game can maybe even be the one i the description here that we're getting from what their next game possibly is both fills me with concern a little bit but also makes me go that might protect you at the same time because if you're if you're working on an open world survival let's say survival crafting game that is all the rage right now playstation doesn't really have one of those in first party i could see media molecule putting out a pretty good one of those i think you were able to present that to playstation and go hey we're hopping on this trend like let us cook we think we can make a great one of these my pushback is that i don't want one of those but also i'm me you know what i mean like there are plenty of people that are there are plenty of people and i'm sure plenty of people that play on playstation that might be into a survival crafting game yeah I personally would want like I don't know a new platformer a new Tearaway a new LittleBigPlanet style thing that's what I look to Media Molecule for but we'll see like maybe maybe this state of play might be where we see it who knows no I think at the state of play you're going to see the Infamous remake yeah is that you joking I'm joking I'm joking I was like are we getting that is that a scoop right now yeah what's the deal with that did you did you like come out and say we're getting an infamous remake i only caught parts of this your boss the clown man um phoned me while i was uh sitting in bed next to my beautiful partner uh it texts me actually saying people are saying you're talking about infamous on the internet and i was like oh yeah i mentioned on the podcast that i'd heard something about infamous he immediately phones me and gets me to clarify my position on it so um i'm sure people in the chat I can drop the link to that.
53:53But no further news than I heard something infamous was happening. By God, I hope it does happen. You heard something infamous was happening. That's not news. Gaming leaks and rumors, calm down. This is the same thing I said a couple of weeks ago. Everyone chill. Everyone chill. Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Midler heard something infamous was happening. Everyone chill. Fucking complex. Infamous is happening? Infamous is happening. complex a tweet being like according to jordan midler from vgc infamous is coming back and i was like this is this is really did you say infamous is coming back oh clap that chat if you clap that my lawyers clip that jordan midler from video games chronicle says infamous is coming back uh look forward to the state of play everybody's happening next week let's get hype infamous we're back baby uh infamous and ape escape right last bet jordan i am excited for the return of infamous that's going to be a huge splash once they announce that at next week's state of play but if i wanted something smaller say the tiniest news i need to know about where would i go you'd go to our last story the we news channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about story number six we news from pc gamer star citizen blast through one billion dollars in player funding as this dev lists a new five thousand dollar spaceship for sale that is quote not yet ready to play rockstar has issued a cease and desist to rage mp they'll stop operating august 31st 2026 uh we got playstation plus essential games announced for june 2026 you're getting grounded fully yoked edition no shot that's what it's called uh nickelodeon all star brawl 2 is that a banana kevin is that did you put that in there fully yoked edition no why is it called chat so let me know why it's called that i want to know and then warhammer 40k dark hide um yujiro hanma joins tekken 8 this winter and then jason is coming to dead by daylight on june 16th and that is it for we news that's what they call the playstation edition the fully yoked edition are they i'm not played grounded are they buff in that game is it this is an egg thing is grounded the obsidian thing with the bugs where you're a guy in the grass yeah it's like you're playing the small people and there's big spiders and that's probably why i don't want to play it at all because it's big spiders yeah i couldn't tell you fully yoked doesn't that mean like jacked like is the spiders on steroids like what are we talking about here yeah fully yoked is like yeah jacked um but also maybe it's a really full egg that got buried in the background let's hop into kind of way.com uh or no before we get there let's hop into super chats actually see what y 'all are saying let's hang out with y 'all for a second before we get ready for this 007 first light review uh dexter schwarzer says both of you are wrong about chocolate hot cocoa with exclamation points i love hot cocoa hot cocoa i mean sure fine we have uh do you have bovril in the us it's like um it's like hot meat water it's like a stew that you drink at football matches kevin bring up bovril it sounds like without anyone saying anything how do you spell that i have no idea what letters are involved i don't know with the accent i have no idea bovril yes be like b-o-v-r-e-l bovril yeah b-o-v-r-i-l i think r-i-l bravo bovril bovril yeah it sounds delicious i want to be absolutely clear about that i'd like beef broth drink i'm in yeah and you have it at sports games oh they it's like a syrup you can mix with water look at that and it's yeah beef oh no no and a scotch pie at a football match.
57:55It's to heat you up because you're standing outside on the terraces where it's minus 50 and you need to heat yourself up with some hot Bavro and a Scotch pie. When you say minus 50, is that Celsius? That can't be a real temperature. That can't be. That's too cold. No wonder 75 degrees Fahrenheit feels cold or hot. I guess you explaining that you're drinking it in cold weather does make sense because I was thinking of it as a hot sports day and I'm like, you're drinking beef soup on a hot sports day i'm not i'm not having it as an aperitif on the back of a yacht in 35 degree weather like it's for when it's very very cold a nice cup of bovro i'll i'll bring some next time i'm there somebody says dead in chat uh says straight to jail that's what you're that's where you be drinking that shit then bovro is for sure what they serve in the in the uk systems.
58:48Okay, negative 50 degrees Celsius is negative 58 degrees Fahrenheit. I would be drinking Bob Roll 2 if I was in those conditions. Gamebowski writes in with a birthday tax. I'm officially Greg's age now. Hope all KFBFs are doing great and I'm happy to see Jordan co-hosting. Also, can't wait to play 007. Happy birthday, Gamebowski.
59:11Marketron says... If that's the Gamebowski, I think it is. then hello lovely uh excellent i'll see you soon then uh marketron 84 says we british can't handle anything above 25 degrees celsius i'm literally dying right now doing my best shirtless spiderman impression yeah it's a lot it's a lot of that like the i feel like even americans that come over in the british summer they're like this is a bit much like there's just no contingency plan for it which is mental because thanks to global warming which is a woke hoax it's been this hot for like 10 years so you think we would have kind of moved things along but now question how much protein they got in bovro i bet it's quite a lot i bet it's quite a lot because i might change my tune on bovro for cyan protein i might be eating exclusively bovro let me tell you it's tough you know you're gonna get a lift section in uh session and then you're done like a pint of bovro with the lads i think i think that could work i'm gonna show up to work with like a fucking cup full of bovro in it greg's make what you drinking on me like don't worry about it jordan told me about it he's from like the middle of nowhere though they probably drink much weirder shit over in bloody kansas city missouri or whatever they're like greg is from a chicago suburb if anything i'm more from the sticks because i'm from champagne oh no yeah he went to uni in kansas then yeah he went to university in kansas i was i was surrounded by cornfields growing up in champagne illinois and you know we're eating over there corn a lot of corn really good champagne illinois is such a wwe entrance uh location it's like uh rob van dam was from battle creek michigan somewhere i should not know exists but i know because of rob van dam dude i wish they had champagne illinois and wwe 2k like i'll be playing every single year i can have my actual entrance in there um we got one more from Mr.
