1:50So I'm sitting on the tarmac, Paris uh after arriving in um you know i was in los angeles for about 10 hours um i didn't call you i'm sorry it's just a quick in and out you know what i mean get there in the morning um got to go hands-on with control resident we'll be able to talk about that soon and uh on the flight back you know i'm getting ready for the uh flight back and i'm just sitting on the airplane and they're like, hey, we know this flight's at 7.30. We're leaving at 7.30. But a lot of bad stuff in San Francisco. Heavy winds. We're going to be stuck here for about an hour. I was like, oof.

2:36Do I want to get off this flight? No, I don't, Paris. Because I've got to watch the end of the Spurs game. It was just a cacophony of negative energy coming at me, Paris. I'm stuck in the tarmac. The Spurs lose. I have to wait an additional hour on the tarmac. I got freaking, you know, I just have horrible vibes all around. I don't arrive back in San Francisco until like 1130 at night. But I said, you know what? I get to wake up in the morning. I get to see Paris' smiling face. And I get to let him know just how incredible the Witcher 3 blood and wine is. Oh, my God, Paris. What a game. What an experience.

3:15When I saw you tweet that yesterday, you saw the reply. I was like, oh, we have to talk about this. Bro, I told you. I told you. It's if you go from the start in Orchard all the way to something, it's just it's such an incredible journey. And blood and wine is like the Witcher 3.5 all by itself. I think you can agree with that now, right? It's just some of the best storytelling. I told Blessing, if you experience blood and wine, it will ruin storytelling for you from here on out. You will compare everything to where you were when you experienced blood and wine. Amazing storytelling, great characters, awesome twists and turns, awesome decision making.

3:58Good Lord. I'm glad I'm putting everybody onto this franchise, The Witcher 3, Paris. I'm just letting everybody know that everybody's got to try it out. I try to just show love to smaller developers like that. Look, my glazing knows no end when it comes to The Witcher 3. It's top three for me all time. It just is because to the point, such great storytelling from start to finish. And you can tell by the time they got to Blood and Wine, they really just honed in on the craft of what they were doing in this world and telling stories in there and the quests and the decisions that you have to make.

4:35It's just so good. So now that we know we're getting songs of the past next year and they've already said it is on scale of blood and wine. Cool, baby. And one thing just as we continue this Witcher 3 expansion review as we're doing here, we're not going to talk about any gaming news today. Just only the Witcher 3. One immediate thing I recognize because I played it all kind of, you know, I was the guy. I'm pretty much the guy who waited until the last couple episodes of Breaking Bad to watch all of it. you know i got to like i didn't have to wait or whatever it was really really cool seeing the improvement in production quality like experiencing all the witcher 3 and hearts of stone was awesome and then i played blood and wine and it's like it's like they were like hey let's hire a new cinematographer let's like there was all this awesome camera work what like what good lord what an achievement amazing stuff from cd project red like you remember do you remember like the first time you went to Skellig like you took the boat oh yeah to Skellig oh yeah we're like oh my god this is like yeah times 10 times 10 with blood and wine yeah bro it's it's it's just such a great game and I know people try to give it grief like oh the combat this and that it was like you know it's good enough dude totally good enough if you're you know hey I'm a I'm a stickler for how my combat feels I'm I'm a I'm the souls guy I'm the Sekiro guy the bloodborne guy the combat in this if you're worried about like hey is it going to be old games old you're gonna be fine don't worry about it like it's it's definitely fun enough it feels good there it's not going to be the most modern of experiences but it is nothing that made me feel like i don't want to be playing this right now it's it's an awesome experience so so andy let me ask you this yeah let's go ahead let's keep on talking about what you're doing and uh look i'm gonna be a gamescom by hooker for a guy i'm gonna be a gamescom i i don't know how but i will be there because I have to see songs of the past.

6:30Oh, man. But Summer Game Fest is about to happen here literally tomorrow. Do you think we see anything from CD Projekt Red at Summer Game Fest? Anything songs of the past related? Anything Witcher related. Because remember, The Witcher 4, there's no rules that say they can't talk about The Witcher 4. So anything coming from Summer Game Fest. I would say nothing Witcher 4 related, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got some sort of trailer of songs of the past, just anything visual, you know, show me why you are requiring people to up their PC specs for whatever this DLC expansion is going to be.

8:41starting off with some some great news i'm really pumped to talk about this future 007 games will be theoretically published by Amazon Game Studios, not IO Interactive. And when we talk, when we think longstanding success in the games industry, I think of Amazon. It's the first thing I think of, like no one's had more success or luck or, uh, you know, a string of, you know, not laying people off. This comes from Chris Scullion at VGC. Any future video games featuring James Bond will not be published by io interactive an amazon gaming executive has stated io interactive developed and self-published 007 first light last month after initially announcing the game as project 007 back in november 2020 six months after this announcement amazon acquired mgm including its catalog of more than 4 000 movies and 17 000 tv shows including the existing bond movies then in february 2025 Amazon MGM Studios announced that it had acquired creative control of the Bond franchise after striking a deal with IP owners Barbara Broccoli and Michael G.

9:56Asparagus. That's not his last name. His last name is Wilson. I just wanted to do another sort of vegetable joke there. Some have therefore questioned whether IO Interactive will be able to publish another Bond game, especially given that 007 First Light has been a success with 1.3 million copies sold on its first day making it IO's fastest selling game ever and just to break out of the article real quick well deserved what a what a fucking video game good lord this is like me to the hollow world was my game of the year prior to this and then I play this like oh I'm gonna have some tough decisions to make by the end of the year Paris let's continue on with the article in an interview with Polygon, Amazon's GM of gaming, Jeff Gaddies, has now seemingly confirmed that it will be handling the publishing duties on all future James Bond titles going forward.

10:47Quote, we did not make First Light, Gaddies explained. We do have a stake in it because we now own the IP, but that IP acquisition happened after the First Light IO deal was already done, end quote. You know, Paris, just to break off of the article again, this is really a lot like barry switzer inheriting the jimmy johnson cowboys in the 90s you know what i mean that's a great that's a great analogy they could point to that success like you weren't a part of this don't you know don't take that don't take that w um in a later update to the story amazon game studios has now made a statement regarding jeff gaddy's comments quote amazon mgm holds the rights to any future james bond video games but it's still too early to discuss future projects an amazon spokesperson told VGC.

11:32We have a great relationship with IO Interactive and are proud of what we've accomplished together on 007 First Light. Our partners at IO will reveal more about 007 First Light in the near future, and we're looking forward to sharing what's next. Paris Lilly, does any of this news give you the great vibes that it gives me? Of course. What could go wrong with this? All of this sounds amazing, right? It sounds like we'll get a ton of James Bond 007 games in the future. They'll all be published by Amazon. There won't be any issue at all. Matter of fact, I can't wait until they do the Stargate DLC with it as well.

12:14Because Amazon and Stargate, that went just great too. Yeesh. Bad vibes. Bad vibes I've got from all of this, Paris. yeah it's i i saw this and i'm just like and and it's to the point that first light is so good i mean this is the definitive bond game now right this is the one that everyone's going to point to when you think of 007 games you have the perfect studio making it and now they were smart enough to self-publish it and now you're just gonna throw that monkey wrench in there and we'll obviously see what happens. Hopefully, sound and smart minds prevail in this and they let Io just continue to do their thing and continue to make these 007 games and we don't run into any issues at all, but we know that won't happen.

13:04This is going to wind up being chaos, unfortunately. Yeah, I think initially, I immediately worry about anybody messing with the cooks in the kitchen already. Yeah. And it's hard to not feel that way. It's hard based on just a lot of Amazon's past with gaming and how rough everything's gone with the amount of failures that they've experienced. And I'm in one of those situations where, you know, Amazon, if you're working, if you happen to be listening to this and you're an executive or you work for publishing, whatever it is that you do. I know it sounds like we're talking a lot of shit, but we're in a point where it's like, prove us wrong.

13:48Prove us wrong that you will do right by the studio, that you understand what makes them special and why the game that they made is good. And yes, it may have taken a lot of time. And it's OK if it it's OK if you don't make a quadrillion bajillion dollars. It's it's all right if you just make a quintillion trillion dollars. You know what I mean? Like we have to manage our expectations. And I just, I hope that they know why this was such a success. And hopefully there are a lot of meetings with people at IO saying, here's why this game is good. And if you want future games to be that good, don't fucking get in the kitchen with us.

14:30All right. I hope that. Let's hope so, Andy. I hope that continues. Yeah. I mean, because it just comes down to this. you would hope that hey this game is essentially a runaway hit right now right to your point you you put this up on the game of the year status i'll admit i think i was a little harsher than than most people with it but even being a little harsh i understood this is a brilliant game go freaking play it of course so if it gets to the point where keely and everyone's talking about this at the end of the year you're getting the accolades you're seeing the high sales numbers why would you mess with a good thing let io do what io does best make a sequel to this thing and just continue just continue doing what you do don't try to interject well uh i actually have some notes and uh we need to do this and maybe maybe we could lean over here like no let them do their thing so hopefully that happens but to your point i don't have confidence that will happen and just proving me wrong.

15:33Just make me go two or three years from now, man, I was wrong. IO made another 007 game. It's great. Amazon stayed out of it. And we just moved forward. But I'm not going to hold my breath. A thousand percent. I also, I think one thing that really stood out for me with this video gaming experience is just how much I enjoyed the writing. And it reminds me that I don't have a whole lot of experiences in the industry where I really enjoy dialogue and story. And I think this game would have, this game always seemed like it was going to hit mechanically and on a gameplay perspective, because it's IO, but it could have come out and it could have had really cheesy, bad dialogue.

16:21And, you know, I mean, cheesy, bad in the way that makes you cringe, as opposed to, I like 007 being the quip, one-liner type of dude. I think that totally fits. And I think what they did story and writing-wise really reminds me of me leaving the experience after playing the Guardians of the Galaxy game. And going, holy shit, like, you know, not the best gameplay experience, but the writing here is amazing. And it's like, and it's so awesome to know that, like, a lot of the team is core to IO. And they're not just, you know, some outside, you know, writing renegades or writing, what's the word I'm looking for?

16:58People that are just writing, writers for hire or whatever. yeah yeah freelancers yeah um yeah awesome gaming experience everybody should play 007 first light it rocks and i really really hope that whatever they keep on doing and i hope we keep on getting more continuations of this story because it ends in a way that you're like oh shit this is awesome i want to see these relationships continue to grow i want to continue to see this bond evolve so shout out to i i do have a side note question for you because because like i said you you put this in the game of the year category i kind of felt it was just outside of it so along those lines i don't put you on the spot a little bit what what are your current like contenders for game of the year mina the hollower would be number one for me um mean the hollower overtook saros as my number one so i got 007 first light mina saros is there forza um oh god what what is it called pragmata there's yeah i have like a solid seven games in there possibly what about resident evil oh shit fuck yeah i just i forgot and like as as somebody who's not an re guy or like a scary gamer guy re9 was like freak like if this it feels like it might be impossible to not have this in my top 10 by by the end of the year and uh yeah that game really really hit for me so yeah that's absolutely in the conversation yeah yeah i mean for me just answering my own question i had mina forza and resident evil those were kind of my my top three and then pragmata and 007 i felt i really enjoyed them definitely go play in their amazing games i kind of was like i think by the end of the year they're not gonna be like right up there and like in my top five but yeah they're all they're all great i mean as far as just from a just gaming standpoint all these games are fantastic but you know we obviously got a few more that'll be coming here in the second half of the year so it's gonna be tough man you can make your top 10 just from september alone yeah you really could september is a whole nother conversation that is crazy to me that so many publishers are deciding to drop their games in that month and i get it you're trying to avoid gta 6 but i think you're gonna cannibalize like sure some of these games are gonna do great wolverine's gonna do great and knock on wood i assume gears is probably in in september but then i think of something like control i worry for that game being in september will it get enough eyeballs on it to have people go spend the 60 70 bucks or whatever it is to run out and go play it i don't know i i think there's just too many games in september now i hope a few them look at that lineup and blink and just move out of it either move up or just move into 2027 i yeah i worry for control because well first off i i think there's a built-in remedy audience that knows what experiences that they're going to get and they want that experience again i worry for it that it's at the back end of the month right and i think i think if it were in the beginning you know maybe you could convince some people to get that game instead of the one coming out in two weeks or whatever but being at the back half of the month i could see a lot of gamers who are strapped for cash right now because everything's expensive and awful i could totally see some people going man i already bought that 70 game do i want to buy this 60 game you know i can't really afford that right now yeah because to your point like i think blood of the dawn walker which i'm you know day one for me right i think rebel wolves and bandai was smart that's at the beginning of September.

20:38So you kind of catch people early on before they start really diving in to all these big games. So they might be okay, but yeah, I'm thinking of ones that are coming in the second half of September. It's just, it's just too stacked. I don't know. We'll, we'll see. It's going to be pretty nasty. Story number two, no rest for the wicked director says Xbox version won't release alongside PS5 because quote series S is making that rough. This comes from Chris Colleen at VGC. No Rest for the Wicked is the latest game from Moon Studios, the developer behind the ORE games, and it was released in early access on PC in October 2024.

21:16And during this week's PlayStation State of Play presentation, it was announced that the full version 1.0 release will be coming to PS5 in October 2026. The studio subsequently confirmed on its own website that the game will also be coming out on early access on Steam and releasing alongside the PS5 version in October 2026, but that the release date for Xbox X and S and Switch 2 versions is TBD. On the game's official Discord server, one user asked why the game wouldn't become an Xbox in October 2, to which game director and studio co-founder Thomas Mahler said optimizing the game for Xbox Series S was causing delays.

21:55Quote, Series S is making that rough. We'll ship it after in a good way once it's optimized like crazy for Switch 2 and Xbox, end quote. Another user joked that the game will likely be further optimized for mobile after this. Quote, Series S and mobile specs aren't too far apart at this point, says Mahler. This is the first time Mahler has said the studio is prioritizing PlayStation over Xbox. But in the past, he's given a number of reasons for this. Not just the work needed to port to Series S, but also the fact that PS5 consoles, or also the fact that more PS5 consoles have been sold than Xbox consoles.

22:30Paris, I feel like we've been beating this dead horse for a while. we've heard we've heard devs talk about it we've heard other devs say it's kind of overblown i i wish i knew the exact correct answer but it does seem like it's not a non-issue what say you about the xbox series s continuing to kind of be a thorn in the side of some developers i mean it's just to your point too many devs have complained about this that you can't just say it's a non-issue and it's causing games to not come to Xbox day one just because of the uh what is it the parody clause or whatever the case right so I know they bent the rules eventually for Baldur's Gate 3 right but it there had to be some there had to be some like talks at the UN for Baldur's Gate 3 to get the to get them from yeah right right but even then it did not come day one you know when when Baldur's Gate released it was still delayed as a result and here we are we're seeing it again like i know you're a big fan of no rest for the wicked i am too so it's like i mean i'll day one i'll be playing on pc but there's people on console on xbox that are not going to be able to experience this right away and there's no release date in sight so look i know this is an xbox prediction show but i'll just jump in with my opinion here the the idea of the series s when you first did it in concept was great i was on board with it a more affordable console all of it made sense but we're seeing in practice it's just causing too many issues on the optimization side and because of the parity clause or whatever whatever it's called xbox this has been part of the reason this generation xbox has been behind sure it's cheaper but if those third-party games that i want to play aren't there day one then i'm just going to go pick it up on playstation or i'm going to go pick it up on pc i would imagine as they move into the near next gen hardware i don't think there's going to be a helix s i think there's just going to be one right so that they can avoid this moving forward so it's unfortunate because like i said i i've loved playing the rest of the wicked during early access and so for it coming to console it's a bummer for people that are only on xbox that are going to be able to play day one and we're hearing it directly from the studio head he's telling you the series s is the reason i wonder you know i always love just sort of imagining the fly in the fly on the wall scenario and you know to be a fly on the wall and and listen to them debate specs and what the min spec should be for the series s or what the max spec should have been i wonder if they could wave the magical gaming wand for the magical gaming wizard and go back in time and say we really should have given it this gpu we really should have given it this processor i wonder what sort of changes they would have made and said i we would have taken a bit of a loss here but it would have led to a lot less headaches and it would have led to a lot less bad pr because i i think that's also something that really really hurts now the general public doesn't really know about any of these pr issues paris they go out and they see the cheaper xbox and they buy that cheaper xbox so it's still you know there's there are so many ways where the series s is such a massive win for microsoft and there's so many ways that it also hurts the gaming output i would say yeah i mean like you said it's hindsight it's monday morning quarterbacking because when this was first being pitched and you're hearing about it you're like okay yeah this makes sense i think ultimately it's it's a ram issue i think that's the problem because the cpu and the gpu the cpu is just underclocked from what it is on the series x and i think the gpu is exactly the same but it has less ram and that's what's causing the problem and then when you factor in split screen and it because i think that was a problem with boulder's gate right it couldn't do split screen or something right i thought they had the same processor but it was the the the gpu that was lagging behind that's that's kind of what i thought i remember but i i could be completely wrong i don't yeah yeah and i i could i could be off too i just i just know it's very similar to the X, but it's underclocked.

26:44But I do know the RAM, it definitely has less RAM. And it seems like that's been the problem with a lot of the, a lot of this optimization that they've been trying to do, because I think the idea of the S was the X is your 4k box. And the S is the one that can play games at 1080p, 1440p. But to the point, it's not been fully realized in that way. Obviously for the, I would say for the majority of games, we're not having this problem. But then when you're running into a big third party, triple a blockbuster game that everybody wants to play like Baldur's gate and Oh wait, we're not going to come to the platform day one because we can't optimize for it.

27:23That's a problem. Yeah. You know, whether you want to blame the series S you want to blame the day. It doesn't matter. It's a problem. It is caught to the point. It's causing a quote unquote PR issue because if I bought an S and I wanted to go play Baldur, I'm just using Baldur's gate as an example, but I want to go play Baldur's Gate and oh wait it's not available why why is it not on Xbox this is why I bought it and this game is not available here so you know I like I said I think moving forward they won't make that mistake again because in hindsight I guarantee you in hindsight if they could do it all over again the S either you bump the specs up or you just don't do it at all yeah I wanted to I wanted to piggyback off that conversation because you mentioning that you wouldn't expect a Helix S or just a the more affordable entry option that maybe doesn't have all of the horsepower that you would expect from the higher end console I would be kind of surprised if they didn't introduce that see I I look at what PlayStation did again we're doing hindsight yeah PlayStation did it right they said all right we'll have a second skew but it just doesn't have a disk drive in it and we'll use that to lower the cost helix as i don't think anyone expects we'll have a disk drive i think we all expect it to be all digital so do you want to do you want to risk that again i guess that's the point there's a risk factor there all right we introduce a lower spec helix and then you have third-party devs saying this again up can't come to xbox day one because we had optimization issues so and i get jason ronald that whole team they're obviously working on the next gen thing and i'm sure the conversation we're having they've probably had it a hundred times already so i don't know it just seems to me and we know price is going to be a factor in all of this and just the crazy stuff in the world but do you risk trying to like i think they'd be better off introducing a handheld as the second option than they would as a i can't even talk instead of a second console yeah i don't know there's part of me that that feels like the series s was too too much of a success to be ignored and i obviously with the issues that we've talked about over the many the the many years of this console being out i i do hope that management and higher ups over there are having conversations with a lot of developers saying yeah if helix if helix has this lower end skew what what's the minimum that you all could work with that if we're making X amount of dollars on the series, on the Helix S or whatever, obviously the normal one would be way more powerful or whatever.

30:07Can we still get money back here? What's the lowest we can go that is not going to cause a headache for you all? And I think those conversations just need to happen and probably are happening. But I would be pretty surprised if we didn't see a lower-powered SKU there. that doesn't you would that doesn't ruin development you know and and again my memory is a little fuzzy because this was a long time ago but if my memory serves me correct epic was the one that pushed xbox i think the original 360 again i could be off on this i think it was only going to be 256 as far as ram goes and they were the ones that pushed and they upped it to 512 or it could have been 128 to 256 but the point is they they upped the ram because the dev was saying look we can't make the game the game that we want at this current spec that this current hardware spec so they fixed it so to your point i would imagine i'd be shocked if they're not they're talking to all these devs right now about helix on what's the minimum you need for this so that you can properly make whatever these next generation games are gonna be like i said before I just think it's a risky proposition to introduce a second console.

31:20Yes, you want to make something more affordable and just go through this all over again that you're having right now with the Series S. But there's way smarter people than me that are having these conversations and are making a lot more money than me. So it's their job to figure it out, not me. Well, luckily, RAM is so affordable nowadays, Paris. Oh, I know. It's so cheap. So cheap. Really, really, really great industry we're living in right now. It's out. you know when i played it back at pax west it was rough it was a sub 30 frame per second you know for everybody who's like andy you know i i've dropped a lot of uh you know acid and chlorine on my eyeballs i can't see the difference between 30 frames per second and 60 frames per second or I'm 80 years old I can't see the difference between 30 frames per second at 60 frames per second this was like a this is like a 15 frame per second experience in a lot of moments where enemies are attacking you it was it was disastrous and I was like oh my god we are pairing a situation where maybe you have a console that doesn't have as much horsepower as you would like and we were pairing that with from software I love you you're my goats you fucking know that You know I love you guys, but we are pairing that with a developer that often seems like optimization is real low on the totem pole.

39:20And for the first two years of playing Elden Ring, I'm like, why am I? I have a beefy ass computer, man. Why am I getting 52 frames per second? Which maybe doesn't seem like much, but it's like, why am I not getting 60 right here? Where other games I'm getting 120, you know, I from software just kind of has that thing about them. I'm so happy that this game is coming out. And according to a lot of people who got to play it at recent events said that it's a lot more optimized. Paris, do you plan on hopping back in on your switch to for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition? That is a fantastic question.

Maybe we throw Snowbike Mike in there. um three three person co-op we're out there in the lands between we're adventuring we're having a blast i've never done co-op really i've never done it oh man okay when i when i beat it when honestly when i beat it was that three years ago how long ago it was i've played since so yeah okay maybe maybe that thing to get me on there well actually maybe like fuck that then maybe we play on pc um because seamless co-op exists on pc there's okay and seamless co-op when me mike and nick had our elden ring adventure a couple years ago the seamless co-op mod shout out to the the modders out there just doing you know the lord's work seamless co-op requires or or doesn't require you to get the certain little orange leaf to then summon in a friend or whatever you know like from software is always very odd about how they integrate co-op into their experiences it's not always the most friendly just hop into a lobby like night rain is or whatever uh seamless co-op allowed it so that you could run anywhere at all times with your friends as opposed to the normal co-op where if you're just running if you summon uh if i summon paris into my game we can run on a little uh you know oh we can't be on our horses first off in co-op and then if we run far enough you'll hit a wall and you'll be like oh i can't go into this zone you got something you're tethered it's a very segmented kind of broken experience um and the the seamless co-op mod makes things a lot friendlier but i'm super pumped about this i want to buy the physical edition i you know is am i probably going to play way more than i need to during a time where there will be a lot of games on the horizon, I'm going to play Elden Ring Tarnas Edition on my Switch 2 way more than I should.
