I'll be like, hey, buy a Switch 2. You get all this stuff from Animal Crossing New Horizons. But no, we're doing an update. So that was that was kind of weird. But I got to show her this video and it was a lot of highs and a lot of like weird Nintendo decision faces from her. I don't know if you want to just go through and just like talk top level. I mean, what are the ones that stick? I think the one that sticks out the most to me is the 30 FPS.

14:46Tim Gettys:Yeah, I mean, that's from a nerd like you and I. That sucks. I was very much expecting the 60 FPS. I was expecting the 4K, of course. I mean, if we didn't have up-res visuals, what are we doing? But 30 FPS, that sucks. That really does suck. I would understand if they said, hey, 30 FPS when you have 12 people on your island. Okay, sure, if you have a million items or whatever, sure. But 30 FPS, oof. the only thing that I could justify 30 FPS is because there is so many islands that people have now cultivated like the ones that Lianza has that have so many items that on the Switch 1, that shit is dropping 15 frames per second, 12 frames per second just walking around, right?

15:27Tim Gettys:So maybe that's them just trying to build in like, hey, some islands, there's no way around this. It's going to drop frames because there's so many things, so much stuff happening in these islands so they're like, this is the cap of what we can go for but still you should at least have a dynamic 60 fps of like oh normal islands are 60 fps and then these insane islands for the weirdos those drop down to 30 fps so yeah that sucks uh game is coded at 30 fps uh someone says in the chat so yeah that's just disappointing but uh hopefully you know a real switch to uh animal crossing gets 60 fps but i digress uh the things that point out for me in terms of like quality of life that were really exciting for her was the upgrading of the inventory you go up to you can go from I think 6 ,000 to 9 ,000 or 5 ,000 to 9 ,000 now 9 ,000 yeah no no not over 9 ,000 just 9 ,000 just 9 ,000 no no not over 9 ,000 you can store trees shrubs and flowers there that's huge and as we're seeing right now Resetti that was a huge pop for her she was like why the fuck is Resetti walking around why is he walking around because that's a big deal like that's this motherfucker's in the ground all the time he's just walking around you can walk up to him and you can just have him clear off massive parts of your island or just smaller parts of your island like the like your house or the or your immediate area around it so that saves countless dozens of hours of just terraforming and breaking things down and just doing monotonous bullshit tasks uh lianza has an entire section of her island that's just all trash but she doesn't have enough time to pick up the trash and get rid of it so having just resetti walk up there and be like okay throw this all in the garbage like save so much fucking time right uh the slumber island i think is also the biggest thing here because uh the animal crossing community has been uh desperately wanting multiple islands uh right now you could only design the one island that you have but being able to have multiple islands has been a dream including the fact that a lot of uh hardcore animal crossing fans have like modded their games to have multiple islands which Lanza may or may not have already done.

17:29Tim Gettys:And then, and then, yeah, she was like using like fucking like, it was kind of concerning. She was like, I need, um, aluminum foil to like put inside of the fucking, uh, the SD card treatment. Yeah. It was insane. And then, and then it came to a point where I think she was annoyed by it. Cause it's like a dual boot situation. So then she was like, I'm just going to take your switch. You don't play in this game. I'm like, no, I'm not. And I just gave her the switch and she just wiped my island and restarted. Yeah. That's how like she's fiending for this game. So the 3000 hours is not even including a 3000, the, you know, whatever hours that she's done on my own switch that she's using.

So you can go to sleep, go into deep slumber, and you can basically go into sandbox mode where you can bring in your villagers. You can build up islands. You can choose the size of your Island and you can choose the time of day, the weather, and you can bring in, and you can bring in your friends to help terraform and build out the island with you which uh lanza brought out brought up a really good uh point of like content creators i was

You have a few hours to kill. Okay, help me build out this island, just destroy a bunch of stuff. Again, we talk about the weird Nintendo decisions. Lanza pointed out the fact that this game feels kind of stale and lifeless a lot of times. So now having another island that is inside of a slumber island that's kind of like this weird dreamscape where you can't really interact with your characters, or at least from the vibes that they've shown, It doesn't seem like you're interacting with the villagers in the same ways that you are in the regular world.

19:23Tim Gettys:It just kind of seems like you drop them in and it's like, oh, it's for show. But like you're not actually like doing the normal things that you do from a day to day perspective, like, you know, the fetch quests or any of that. It's just kind of like a design situation. So a little disappointing there, but still exciting that you can do multiple things like that. and then the other thing of course is the resort hotel which you kind of popped at the idea of being able to design little rooms for villagers that are coming in from different islands which is cool but it's also a it's kind of weird that they're doing this in my opinion because this is kind of what they already did with the happy home paradise DLC which it has a separate island and it's essentially this idea where it's like oh this villager wants this type of home and you just build a home for them so it's kind of them folding in a paid dlc into the free game yeah um so a little bizarre but it's cool that it's there for everybody uh and uh the collaborations are dope uh you know having zelda splatoon of course developed by the same studio lego lego lego's fun

It's like, man, just eliminate the Switch Online requirement. Just put a fucking Dr. Mario. Yeah, like they bought Animal Crossing. Let them just play Dr. Mario in Animal Crossing, you know? Yeah. Like for me, it brings me back to when I went in DK64, because everything comes back to DK64 for me. Of course. You could play the original Donkey Kong, and I'm like, I'm having that back-in-my-day feeling, you know what I mean?

The application was made in March 2024 and partly describes the act of catching a character in-game in a method that appears to be similar to that in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu slash Eevee games. However, as spotted by Gamesfray, the application has now been rejected by the Japan Patent Office, the JPO, after it looked at prior art examples of the invention being used before the application was made.

It's the same conversation we've had with any of these huge corporations when they come into, specifically tech corporations, when they come into the video game space. It's like, what is your goalposts here? How much money are you trying to make? What is your ends when it comes to these video game franchises? And I just don't see the way that they are positioning, the way that they have positioned Luna and their Snoop Dogg AI courtroom video game and then focusing on mobile games and casual experiences.

40:57Tim Gettys:I saw this and I was like, there's no way that if this does even come out that it will get the success that they're looking for. So my heart goes out to all the developers that lost their job and the fact that this game was canceled because apparently, as the developer over here said, it looked really cool and was shaping up to be dope. But yeah, I mean, this is what is happening when it comes to Amazon and specifically with all their other projects now, which I look and I have to put a question mark next to fucking Lara Croft and Tomb Raider, right? Like, that's going to happen. That's probably going to come out.

41:29Tim Gettys:They have a TV show coming out soon or a movie or whatever, some project with Tomb Raider. They have this game that's probably happening. So that's going to come out. But, like, there's no way in hell that that is successful enough for them to continue to develop that franchise and to invest even more money into that.
