Key claims

  • Compulsion Games completed a management buyout, regaining publishing rights/IP and aiming to keep revenue supporting the studio, not Microsoft.
  • 007 First Light sold 4+ million copies in three months; Switch 2 release is “later in 2026” (possibly December).
  • Black Myth: Zhang Kui gameplay emphasizes more non-boss fights; combat is detailed but still work-in-progress.

Notable examples

  • South of Midnight ownership/publishing rights returning to Compulsion.
  • 007 year-one roadmap: story DLC centered on “Bawama,” plus new Taxim challenges, gadget, New Game Plus, and photo mode.
  • Golden Axe cartoon: Paramount+ streaming Sept 16, satirical fantasy/video-game meta humor.

Today, in the nerdy news you need to know about, Compulsion Games officially separates from Xbox. 007 First Light hits a major sales milestone. and the new Black Myth game gets a whole lot of new gameplay footage. We'll have all this and more because this is Kind of Funny Games Daily.

0:43Like I can't explain why, but Black Myth and I want to say Wukong, you know immediately, and then I want to go, is the combat bad? No, it's just not great. Like there's so much baggage. The messed up thing there is when I was writing that

0:56Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I wrote Black Myth Jean-Cuey, the full name of the game, and then thought about your cold open and was like, I'm going to delete Jean-Cuey. You can tell me right before we go live. It's Jean-Cuey and I would be fine then. I just put Black Myth Game because I was like, there's no way you can fuck that up, right? You found a way to chat. What's up, everybody? Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Thursday, August 20th, 2026. I'm one of your hosts, Greg Miller, alongside Forbes 30 Under 30, a.k.a. New York Game Awards nominated, a.k.a. Bicep Poppy. his blessing at aoyay junior good day greg hi hello how are you i'm doing pretty good i'm better than i was because now i can say i went to tokyo i was in tokyo went to from software yeah uh via nintendo and played the duskbloods which we're going to talk about on the games cast after this i have so much to say this might be the most notes i've taken on a singular video game i love to preview yeah that's great that's great um but did that and then i got back and i was sick yeah i was not feeling great um and then the constant drinking in late nights you think i got you um maybe possibly i went to the doctor and i was like yo i was like i traveled and he was like yeah airports also have a thing like it could be a number of things of course it could be surely the drinking probably didn't help my immune system staying up and all that stuff but what did he say just take nycola and advil and call it a day yeah he was like if you get more symptoms because it was just a sore throat he's like if you get more symptoms take this antibiotic that i'm prescribing you ended up not taking the antibiotic because i ended up feeling fine now you're selling them to andy yeah now i saw them to people got really open arms about that in the comments i don't know he's all this um but yesterday then went to seg uh down to la for a sega event that i can't talk about anything that i played there yet but i'll you'll hear impressions but let's talk about again and i hope you would stop me if i was ever crossing a line because i'm not i'm just complimenting on you becoming a man.

2:46You put up this photo on Instagram of you on the red carpet and I was like, damn, there he is again. Bicep poppy. Just fucking flexing on him. You were just like, damn, you look great. It's funny because I hate the picture that I put up there. Really? Because it's the pose. I don't know how to post

2:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:for photos is what I've realized because I feel like I'm just like... Do you not like the just hook him in this thing? That's what I did. But maybe my arm, I think my arms naturally go more outward. Kevin, I'm going to... I'll find it in the screen. I feel like I'm standing like this. It's my Instagram stories, Kevin. Yeah, but I think it acts bad, right? Somebody complained once. So if I go there, I'll look at the... There you go. There's something about my pose that, like, I don't know. It doesn't look natural. And then click on his name, or I'm sorry, Kev, and then go to his page, because his latest one is this From Software 1-2.

3:28Yeah. Look at this one. See, I look more natural here. You look great in this one, too.

3:31Blessing Adeoye Jr.:This I feel good about. And so, you don't have to scroll through all the photos. I went to the Sega store. Yeah. Have you been to Tokyo? I've been to Tokyo. not in a long time well yes it's like no not a long time in shibuya there's this um shopping center called parko it's like a tall mall um at the top floor they have a bunch of different like video games slash nerdy stores yeah and so it's like the pokemon center is there the nintendo store the capcom store um but yeah i went to the set went to the sega store i'm so i'm such a basic bitch i'd be lying to the sega store and i'd be lying to the pokemon center and went all right that's cool and then while i was there shout out i didn't catch his name but there was a person who recognize me nice and it was like i have my earbuds in because i'm like listening to a podcast i hear are you listening we're kind of funny and i'm like what the fuck and i take out my earbuds and i'm like sorry what'd you say and he's like are you blessing and i'm like yeah and he's like oh so he's like surprises why would i be in tokyo sure you know what i mean like such a random occurrence now did you break embargo and tell him or did you say hey no i in fact i took a picture with him and went hey don't post that picture for a week i needed to do me a favor and not post this because people are not supposed to know that I'm in Tokyo.

4:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But I had a really good time. Can't wait to talk about it on Gamescast today. I'm excited about that. I'm also excited about talking about the nerdy news you need to know about because that's what we do each and every week down. Kind of Funny Games Daily. Like, subscribe, share, follow, etc. Of course, if you're watching live, super chat to be part of the show. YouTube.com slash Kinda Funny Games. Eric Mertz already did. Eric Metz actually already did and said had to write in to say yesterday's Gamescast was my favorite in a long time Mike's mind is fascinating don't get lost in there don't get lost in the mic therapy session uh if you want to be part of the show with your questions comments concerns about the video game news of the day like I said super chat youtube.com slash kind of funny games of course we couldn't do this show without our producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you Carl Jacobs Omega Buster Delaney the Somp Twining and Lax Nomad for now let's begin the show with what is and forever will be the Roper Report Five items on the rubber report A baker's dozen

5:43Number one He says I need to relax my posture Is that what it is? I'm not a relaxed person I don't think I think I'm a laid back person

5:50Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But not relaxed So let's just get into this already Because here's I think What would actually help a lot And you're in your therapy session But it's about photos now Yes Do you like the way you look In photos? Oh, no. See, and that's that. That is the key issue. Yeah. And so the way to relax is just let it go. And I mean that as somebody who for the longest time, and I'm talking like as growing up, what I always look at photos, I just don't like how I look in this photo. Right. Yeah. And so then when it became part of the job that I'm taking photos all the time with people or whatever, it was just like, fuck it.

6:22Yeah. Yeah. It's like, it's similar to my, you've heard the diatribe of me talking about like game development being kind of like what we do, except that we make three video games, four video games a day so if you have a bad one you're gonna make four tomorrow who cares whereas like that makes a developer who does seven years you're gonna take so many fucking photos in your life in this line of work so you gotta be like all right cool that one didn't look great but whatever i'm fine with it you know the next one yeah i'll let andy draw on my back fat who cares goddamn i'm jumping to an rtx panel we did so you just gotta let go and then you'll find you i like that yeah yeah i'll think about that next time because i think that'll also be the thing too is that once you get weird with it then you do find oh man i actually like it if i tilt my head that way and give this kind of smile yeah you know what i mean then it actually opens up like you actually find it because now you're no longer trying in the moment to do it jen's the same way and she doesn't get as many at-bats as us where she like on dice she's always unhappy with our dice photos like with a professional photographer so she like she'll always pose us in the mirror like what am i gonna do her what am i gonna do with my hand you know what i mean or this kind of thing yeah

7:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:it's the way that if i'm recording vo or if i'm recording like a greg way or doing something on camera i i know my first take is always giving my best take yeah because once i get three takes four takes in i'm thinking about it too much you know i mean so that's a good one to think about number one on the roper report compulsion games pulls off management buyout and separates from xbox this is dean takahashi at games beat compulsion games the makers of compelling games like south of midnight has pulled off a management buyout and is now separated from xbox Guillaume Provost, CEO of the Montreal-based game studio, confirmed the deal is done in an exclusive interview with GamesBeat.

7:57Everybody got a clue when the Steam version of South of Midnight flipped its ownership from Microsoft to Compulsion Games last week. At the time, Compulsion Games had no comment. But Provost said that the management buyout is complete and that it owns its original intellectual property, Games, again, as it has bought the IP back from Microsoft. Provost said management has acquired the studio and staff as well. This means that if anyone buys Compulsion Game title from now on, the revenue goes to supporting the studio, not Microsoft. Quote, We're confirming we're getting all of our publishing rights back, Provost said.

8:32But he acknowledged it takes time to get the legal work done on some of these tasks. In addition to Steam, Compulsion Games also has to assume ownership of its games on Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox stores. We've completed our separation process to become independent again. He did not disclose the terms of the deal, other than to confirm it was a management buyout. It is a far better outcome than the alternative, which was the studio shutting down. Quote, I did this deal for the team first and foremost. I asked them, do you want to stay together? Team told me we would rather eat rocks and drink gasoline rather than be split up, Provost said.

9:08Damn, I understand eating rocks, but gas is even more expensive than food. It's not going that way. There's a lot of work to do still in making sure the company has a good path to pursue. But Provost said the company is concentrating on one step at a time. It's only been nine days since the deal was done. Provost has been meeting with various parties to discuss a stable future for Compulsion Games in its independent state. He is exploring different alternatives for permanent funding, but the team continues to work. part of the team is busy working on a title that was in progress when microsoft decided to change its course under a new leader asha charma blessing yeah round of applause come on this is what you want to see right you want to see this happen now we need to support them now everyone needs to buy compulsion games yeah i mean that's the big thing and i it's one of those things where in the way

10:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:that weeks and weeks ago it feels like it's been forever but yeah when we were talking about um double fine similar news one of the conversations we're having was like all right like are the layoffs going to come in when are the layoffs going to come in right like i'm i was at that moment i think fighting against the idea of layoffs happening in double fine because i'm like oh they're small studio like i'm surely they know how to operate like all this stuff right but then the reality sets in of when you're operating costs change and you don't have that parent company to kind of like hold you through it the reality set in and it's like okay we have to adjust and make sure that we're able to survive um and so i'm hoping for the best here for for compulsion but to your point thing yeah remember this is kind of my monday i'm still in this weird thing now now i'm officially back i'm multiple days in a row of work yeah while i was gone i thought i saw at a rumor but i was also on a lake did double fine have layoffs yeah okay cool yeah i want to make sure i'm not yeah you were gone for a while sorry yeah you're off like weeks yeah double fine did have i remember seeing it but i never i'm so behind on my games i didn't listen yes um and so to your point yeah like if you're a fan of compulsion games yeah you should buy compulsion games right like you got to support compulsion games and you know i think it's a tough thing to ask of the audience of like well i already bought south of midnight what do i do and i'll say they'll buy it on another platform like i don't i if they have merch buy their merch right This is a studio that right now they're in a critical moment of their existence, and they're going to need as much support they can get from an audience that are fans.

11:34Yeah, I think we always jump to buying the games, which is great, but of course I feel like that's going to be a hard movement to make to really rattle the thing, right? Coming off of this and then working on this other thing, I think what you are easy way to support is to go follow all the social medias, join the discords, do whatever that is, and then whatever this thing is that they're working on that was going to be the Microsoft game, but now it's just going to be their game. You imagine in the way video games work in 2026, we're going to hear about that sooner than later. And as soon as that gets a Steam page, you wishlist the shit out of that.

12:07When that gets a Game Awards trailer, you watch it and freak out in the chat about it, and then you go to the breakout trailer and talk about how excited you are. You share that with your friends, and you do that whole thing. It's a grassroots thing for these small games, and it is, hey, I loved this game, and now I need to go tell everybody else about their next game and why I'm excited for it.

12:26Blessing Adeoye Jr.:yeah i mean one thing i would be interested to see i don't know what the scope is of this game that they're they're working on and obviously i don't really know the full structure of their studio how many people all that shit right but like one thing i'd be interested to see would be for them to do some type of game jam and try to get something out quick so that people can show up to and buy it and maybe it catches catches on or something i look at a studio like double fine and what they did with kiln where they have their you know creative days where they come together and have these ideas, do the game jam thing.

12:55Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Amnesia Fortnite. Amnesia Fortnite is what they call it, yeah, where you see Kiln come out of that, and it's a fun title that comes out only six to seven months after Keeper did. Or I even look at the studio that made Peak, Aggro Crab. Of course. And they did a game jam where they thought of multiple games. It was Crash Out Crew, and Peak, out of nowhere, caught fire, and people flocked to it and bought it and became a big success and all these things. Obviously, I'm not saying you should do that to then try and recreate Peak's success, because that's one in a million yeah but like i would like to see them do something that is oh we can put this out in a year or two years and see that's where i think the conversation pivots to a really interesting point when we're talking about compulsion right and you're talking about what they've made before we're talking about contrast we're talking about we happy few yeah and then we're talking here about south of midnight right south of midnight was a game i truly believe only possible in the form we got it because of the backing of microsoft oh yeah and what i mean by that is like i went up to montreal and did that studio uh or not studio tour but like you know presentation or whatever that was them hey like here are the 3d models we built and this is we we worked with these stop motion animators to make the trailer to do the like so much tlc went into that as deservedly so for how amazing that was the soundtrack and that's all awesome in such a this is when you talk about what phil and sarah apparently were telling people go make art call of duty is going to sell this your halo mean game pass we need game pass games that are going to win awards and get us acclaim that's what this studio was i'm very fascinated to see now you're back to being indie you're out on your own you don't have the safety net of microsoft it's publisher parish what do you make how do you flip it how do you go quick with this and i think you know to talk about game jams uh aggro crab is so great amnesia fortnight from double fine is so great that is such an interesting way to motivate a community and again you these places have to go now in after being in the microsoft bubble come out now and make them have identity again and that's such an awesome way of hey we're bringing you in on the ground floor dedicated audience who would be the people who donate to this and maybe even it is i you know i have too much tim gettys in me these days you know what i mean but like it is a patreon thing you join and then you're watching us do the game jan and you get to vote or whatever crowdfunding platform right like yeah that's what we need to do right now is we have these smaller studios looking for funding and really trying to engender an audience i think now do you think compulsion has that kind of audience because when we're talking about amnesia fortnight and double fine like double fine has double fine fans yeah there's such a weird particular studio that is known for their um artistic direction and you might be a fan of Psychonauts.

15:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You might be like me and you're a fan of Broken Age or you're a fan of Keeper. Costume Quest. Costume Quest. Tim Schafer knows if he wants money, Costume Quest 3. Halloween's right around the corner. It could be easy to make a game. Make a game in a month. But, you know, Double Fine can come out and they can make a Kickstarter for their next game and people will support because they understand it and they have this fandom. Compulsion, I think, is weird because I don't really associate them with that energy of fan base. Sure. So I wonder if South of Midnight did create a community for them or like if they had one from We Happy Few.

16:21I think it's always tough. But to answer your question, do they have that kind of fan base right now? No. They have a very small fan base that I do think is the, oh man, I love South of Midnight. I love this. I do want to go support these guys and gals and people and go whatever. They'd be there for that. But they don't have double fine numbers, right? Sure, sure. I think this is the moment in time to grab the narrative and make yourself a double fine. I think it is that if you were going to do Kickstarter, do whatever, and it was Guilherme here coming out and being like, Hey, we just left the big bad corporation that everybody, I know you have to tie, throw this down that everybody hates, right?

16:57We are on our own, but that's scary. We need you. So if you loved this, look at what we're trying to make and what our ideas are and come be a part of this journey with us like that open development i think is what makes people go oh man i love this studio i love these people like double vine of course is such a unicorn is not the right word but is a in the same way you're free to knock me off this high horse if you want okay in the same way double fine wouldn't be the same without tim kojima productions wouldn't be the same without kojima kind of funny wouldn't be the same without greg like it is that idea of like yeah the and i mean even to go way back there greg and colin right big names leaving the thing you know them for to then go and do something that's very similar to what they like that's the thing that compulsion doesn't have the fall back on yet right they were this very small thing that i've been with the whole time because contrast was awesome on the playstation 4 i was like oh my god like what a great moment meeting them and seeing their success right and then getting here and seeing their games get better and better like this is that tipping point where now you have to step up and be like we are the faces of the games that make this you know what i mean we are we make these things you love and now we're making the next thing and let's go and like it'd be great to see a partner step into that and have it be anna perna's publishing

18:15Blessing Adeoye Jr.:our next game oh yeah we're coming you know we're with kepler on this i wonder vision i i wonder and i know they're having all the same conversations already especially when you're talking about what to say like seven days so far of independence nine days um but like is there something in the the IP of South of Midnight. Like you're talking about South of Midnight one already being a game that I agree with you, right? That's a game that exists because you have the backing of, of a Microsoft, right? Like South of Midnight is a, is an indie game with the backing of, of AAA production. You know what I mean?

18:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Like it's a specific, very artistic and like kind of game, but you're able to make it big because you have Microsoft. I don't think you can just make South of Midnight two, unless you find somebody to, to like fund it. But even then it's like, are you going to find somebody to fund it? how well did south of midnight midnight one do do you even have do you even have metrics to back that up because that was a game pass game you know what i mean like who do you go to to go i know we only sold this much but if you think about it we're on game pass and xyz thing i think that's such a tough thing to get off the ground but is there a 2d platformer south of midnight is there a south of midnight story that's a mini thing like is there a connection there my hope would be that no you don't do that I would say if anything South of Midnight looks so good and feels so good as a story that I would love to see them partner with somebody for the South of Midnight Netflix movie and do a stop motion movie of that and that way we're getting funding from that we're elevating our brand in terms of what compulsion is and the joint IPs we can make and then I know Netflix of course don't get me started on Netflix games but like have some, if you're doing a deal with somebody like that or an Annapurna or whoever with the pictures deal, then be able to use an IP to go make a game.

20:01And I know that I say this too much of, I like smaller studios partnering with an IP, but it is the way of let's elevate something that I think these are incredibly talented developers. But I think it's very hard to have a new IP, like back to it of like, are there going to be layoffs here? God, I hope not, but I could see it easily, right? Where it is like, cool. We are now in, the fact that they have this other game that's the hope of like cool hey somebody step in publish the game we're working on or whatever you know and we're already halfway there you can see the success you can see it's going to be great and yada yada if you're out in the cold with nothing and you're not Tim Schafer you're not Kojima you're not Bruce Straley right of like hey I'm a name in the industry you already are excited for it you need to have something to establish yourself and people to rally behind I think yeah I can see that when you're gone

20:52Blessing Adeoye Jr.:for multiple weeks. I mean, there are plenty of moments where I think we all looked at each other and went, this company can function without Greg. Oh my God. No, no, no, no, no. You kicked Greg off a cliff. No, no, no, no, no. We're good. We got Andy Cortez. We got Mike Howard. We got Blessing. We got Tim. We got Nick. All right, this man thinks he's the Kojima. Kojima leaves Kojima Productions. When I left, nobody knew who Nick fucking Scarpino was. Tim Goddannis. Tim Schaefer leaves Double Fine. Maybe, yeah, you probably have to figure shit out. You know what I mean? Greg leaves kind of funny.

21:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:We're good. We got Snow, Michael, Michael. We got Andy Cortez. You know what I mean? And then there's me.

21:31To be clear, just because you're going to start something. We got Barrett on the ones and twos. You're still starting some shit. We'll just have to make more video essays. We'll be good. Come on. This man thinks he's Kojima. That's not what I was saying. I was saying when I left. Come on. When we left to make the impact. Okay. Nick is on one piece of content a week. We can get him on more. I was very proud of everyone in all the content you did. I'm very much well aware that I could easily die right now. And this company would keep going. That's what I want. And then Ben comes in with my shares.

21:57Then you've got some problems. It's just Hot Wheels content all the time. I mean, that'd be fun though. It'd be fun for a little bit. Then you'd have to play Starfield. This fucking kid's obsession with Shadow the goddamn hedgehog. Come on. He's a real one. It's his backpack. It's his water bottle. It's his lunchbox. Hell yeah. Then he's had this little shitty, you know, nerfy. It's a knockoff from a grocery store, Nerf basketball hoop, but he's finally outgrown. And I was like, Ben, let's get you a new one. You're super into this now. He's super into basketball. So I ordered one. And then last night, Jen came home from buying Sonic fucking shoes.

22:31And she's like, hey, look what else I found. And it was a shadow fucking Nerf basketball hoop. This kid lost his goddamn name. Oh, man. You know what I mean? We're raising him right. We're raising him right. Yeah, you gotta take him to the Sega store in Tokyo. He'll love it. As soon as he can be on the plane that long. Without going crazy. I didn't get a shadow, the hedgehog, shot glass. If he wants it. Sure. Yeah. Oh, you think he'll be taking shots out of that? Take him out. He'll put his gems in it. His rocks. I'm gonna keep it. You know how much garbage this kid brings home thinking their trinkets brought home a dowel rod last night.

23:01You know, little things when you're making like Ikea furniture and you put the rod in and put the he's like, I found this in the playground. I'm like, all right, cool. Okay. Hours later. Where's my rod? I'm like, that's such a trash. He's such a kid because I was doing the same thing. Of course you were. Everybody. We couldn't have kids. without your support. 23:34And of course, the cliff would just rebrand Gregway to Nickway. Haven't talked. I'm on your side. I don't know what you mean. I don't want the Patreon numbers. What are you talking about? I'm not. This isn't the point. I was making fun of it. He's a Tim Schafer. Which is probably kind of. Well, I mean, actually, yeah, but I mean, Double Fine could run out with Tim Schafer too, I think. He'd be the first to tell you. Yeah, I mean, but it'd be tough. I mean, their best game, Costume Quest, was not a Tim Schafer game. Their second best game, Massive Chalice, was not a Tim Schafer game. Are you forgetting about Psychonauts too?

24:01I am. Okay. Just like the world did. Anyways, pick up the membership, all right? Oh, Tim Schafer, you offended? Come say it to my face, Tim. You coward. Grim Fandango? I don't know what his role was. Oh my God, that was his game. That's why I was like, oof. Tank controls? I mean, it was back in the day. That's what they were doing back in the day. That's what they were doing. You know what I mean? Maybe someone should have iterated. Someone who apparently is a video game visionary like Tim Shaver should have been like, yo, these controls suck. Maybe I'll invent a stick. He sounds a lot like the Greg Miller.

24:34Anyways, go to the answer.

26:59So we think he's the Kojima kind of funny. Come on. Number two on the road. Oreo or Asian motherfucker. God damn bedrock of this company. Number two, 007 First Light hits major sales milestones still confirmed for Switch 2. This is Ollie Reynolds at Nintendo Life. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that 007 First Light has now sold over 4 million copies since launching three months ago on May 27, 2026. A fine achievement indeed, and a strong indication that we can probably expect to see more Bond action from the Hitman team in the future. In the meantime, the upcoming Switch 2 release is apparently still happening, so don't worry.

27:41However, while IO Interactive previously stated a planned release in summer, it is now said to come quote-unquote later in 2026. So the messaging has gotten slightly more vague, meaning it could arrive as late as December. Let me tell you. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm not throwing stones from my... You can look at a lot of bad writing from Greg Miller. But I do appreciate it. It's going to come later in 2026. meaning it could arrive as late as December oh thank you Oli for explaining the calendar I had to cut off the article

28:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:because they did go on to talk even more about like what if it comes out the same day as GTA 6 here's the thing right it's Nintendo life so they gotta focus on the Switch 2 aspect where the fuck is the Switch 2 version they're very concerned I'm not talking shit on Oli here I don't know Oli I'm just saying it just cracked me up a little bit there at the end 4 million copies great for them good maybe i hope it's great for them maybe amazon will take it to heart and not fuck with this as every remember that week where the guy's like ah we own it now though and they're like everything he's like i don't know and then finally he's like okay yeah we'll let them keep going they're great yeah like you have to i don't trust you for a goddamn second and you have to get the little seven first light too yeah from them we can't like you you can't do anything here's where i wanted to sprinkle in some stuff i've been surprised and granted i have not been watching like a hawk but i've been surprised we haven't seen more of the what it's not spec ops what are the missions in this oh yeah sec ops something like that the vr missions that are in 007 right i thought we would hear and have more of those popping off going on yet there was a car i know people had been starting to attack sim thank you kebabs do you think we get one of those announced at gamescom oh i mean what's the status on the dlc story expansion that they talked about with the celebrity that wasn't really that i'm gonna go my way let's grab it's that yeah that's a great point too because i think i think you have to focus on that first well see i my thought would be this stick with me right of like you have a couple different beats lined up now and i think lenny kravitz being at the fucking game awards yeah to talk about the expansion and give out an award to whoever music probably right i think that makes more sense so i think at gamescom you have a smaller beat you're closer to iowa interactive studios right being over in germany or whatever we're over on the right side of the world i think you have them show up and have jeff show out with like hey four million sales they say something about the sales uh of course it's coming to switch maybe confirm a date there and then also be like but if you're you have it right now we're dropping whatever taxim mission right now you can go run off and do what if i told you there's a roadmap i'd say are you gonna go my way uh i'm on ign.com never heard of uh kade onder i don't they don't have an image here i assume when you say roadmap i always think it's gonna to be like the image that literally shows it.

30:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:A lot of people just use words. Yeah, they just use words. Me and Kevin like pictures. 007 First Light reveals Roadmap, StoryDLC, New Game Plus, and more coming soon. They say it's getting an impressive amount of post-launch support. According to the game's year one roadmap, at Summer Game Fest, IO Interactive debuted a teaser trailer for a new StoryDLC for the game centered around Bawama. Is it pronounced Bawama? Yeah. B-A-W-A-M-A, but I could have sworn we were calling him Bawama. Is it Bawama? I don't remember the V. I don't remember the v you're dropping a lot of v in there there's no v i don't remember the v i could have sworn there was a v the pirate king warlord played by lenny kravitz uh details are scarce on what we'll be doing with bawama but his story did end rather abruptly yada yada um it's also unclear if this will be a paid expansion or if it'll be a free update um double seven first i will also get a year of updates which which will include new tax sim challenges a new gadget new game plus and a photo mode um they talk more this is what i'll say hold on people are remembering the v i was gonna say i could have sworn there was a v um this is what i'll say because i don't know how much information we have but if we don't have the dlc date i think that's the i think gamescom would be the perfect place to be like oh and you're getting the bavama dlc this fall and then i think game awards we get more tax and stuff okay because i think for double seven first light it's a marathon and not a race i just like hitman i imagine they're gonna be supporting this thing for years yeah and so the more you can kind of like drip feed and pace yourselves the better i just feel like the dlc it all depends on when you're trying to launch the dlc i guess that really is what comes down to where you'd put it and have the actual conversation because i feel like that's just a meatier announcement than hey tax him i guess yeah that's true the dlc is further off then i think you could say tax him out today this is an interesting conversation uh when i think of gamescom i don't think of the pomp and circumstance of sgf and game awards but what i do think of is more meat if that makes sense like an actual meal i feel like a lot of times sgf announcements and game awards announcements are light on details it is just a teaser trailer of wonder woman spinning her lasso and having bracelets right where gamescom is the part where I think, hey, we have tax emissions coming out right now or soon or whatever.

32:50I don't know. I feel the fact that Witcher's doing DLC or whatever there. I feel like there's actual things happening at Gamescom for the gamers in terms of the mainstream. And so I think when I want a mainstream announcement, I'm going to one of Jeff's major shows. I know he does Gamescom too or whatever, but that's how I see it breaking out. I mean, well, put your money where your mouth is. Tomorrow we're doing predictions. I know, I know we are doing predictions. Put it on your predictions. Maybe I will. Maybe I will too. Maybe I will be on the opposite side too, so we'll be fine. Let's act like we didn't have this conversation though You already did it once Greg please don't use Doomsday device on me Oh no I forgot about the Doomsday device

33:27I don't even think he said that What?

33:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Don't use the Doomsday device on me I don't think he cares I feel like he's not even paying any mind to it Except for when you come on the show and interrupt him Play the music and stress him out there He better start I don't think he really cares about your Doomsday device Tim Geddes if you don't care about my doomsday device that's going to end very badly for you I've seen a lot of debate on the reddit of people asking is it even real I saw that too people think that you're bluffing I'm like when have I lied to you I mean when you said that you're the Kojima of kind of funny in 2015

34:04how do I pronounce this black myth thing Zhang Kuei Zhang Kuei yeah got it number three 15 minutes of black myth Zhang Kuei gameplay footage provide our first proper look at wukong's successor yet i read that verbatim right i know we're all gonna give me shit about 15 minutes of black myth jean kui gameplay footage provide our first proper look at wukong's successor yet that is how yeah that's the exact go fucking throw me at it i copied and pasted it that's what they said this is sheriff sad over a euro gamer as we look at the footage Maybe that's how they talk over there. Oh. Game Science has delivered a gift for anyone eager to see and hear more from Black Myth...

34:47Zhang Kuei. Zhang Kuei. The sequel to the incredibly successful Black Myth Wukong. The developer released 15 chunky minutes of gameplay, giving us a first look at the combat and a clear picture of the protagonist, the Chinese mythological deity Zhang Kuei. What stands out to me in the footage, having played Wukong, is a larger focus on fighting non-boss enemies. Wukong had battles in between bosses, of course, but its world was sparsely populated, focusing almost entirely on early boss fights. This may still be the case here, but from the footage at least, there appears to be more going on in the world.

35:19The game's animations are very detailed and involve a lot of weapon entanglement. We see blades bouncing off each other and clashing as if in extended parries. It makes that part of Zhang Kui look closer to something like Phantom Blade Zero, another Chinese action game with a focus on martial arts. Speaking of bosses, we see one a little over halfway through the video, a large moth-like humanoid creature with shell-like wings covered in barnacles and scales. Jesus. Has he happened yet in this trailer? No, this is just... Let me know when he pops up. I gotta see this motherfucker. The protagonist fights a lengthy battle with them, eventually summoning a warrior companion to help before directly taking control of them to deal major damage.

36:00The gameplay looks a little different in the footage compared to Wukong, and that's intentional. Game Science has said before that it hopes to, quote, preserve the many things players loved about Wukong, but that the sequel will be, quote, tailored to a new protagonist. With that said, Game Science stresses that Zhang Kui remains a work in progress, and today's footage may differ from the final release. Quote, some of what we're exploring is still experimental, Game Science said. That's him. Ew! God, this game looks so good. Well, I know we have the, is Black Myth Wukong's combat bad? No, it's just not great.

36:33but I forget were you one of my would you play wukong a lot did you play little um I played I

36:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:played about half of black myth wukong before I was just I just decided like I've had my fill sure yeah yeah it was very much like the I don't think this game is bad I don't think this game is I think this game is probably a solid good you know what I mean I think if we're I like how Andy puts it of like if I'm doing the old school uh video game review thing and reviewing based off of like the different elements of the game of course the presentation of black myth wukong 10 out of 10 that game looks insane right like the cut scenes are amazing when you're just walking through the world looking around like visually it is gorgeous it's doing all the right things there combat probably like seven okay you know like again not bad like it's not amazing oh don't rip it off dude gross and then like he's ripping off his own shell wing kevin ew i think beyond that it's a little bit of fatigue when it comes to the amount of action games action adventures and all those that we're getting.

37:31Blessing Adeoye Jr.:That made me, by the time I got halfway, I'm like, all right, I've had my fill. I understand it. It's cool. Not all the way from here, but it's cool. You know what they say? Fool me once, shame on me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fool me twice is what you're going to do. Because I'm looking at this, and I'm like, I want to play this. Yeah? Yeah, I'm going to play exactly half of this game. Wow, okay. And then probably have the same exact thing. Maybe it'll click. Maybe it'll be the one that sticks with you. It's gorgeous. Maybe it'll come out at the right time for me, and I'll be craving it, and I'm going to fall into it.

37:58Do we even have a release window on this one? I don't believe so. I get the vibe that it's still very early. The way they're talking about it, yeah, for sure.

38:05Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Wukong had a similar, I think, sort of cadence when it came to how early they showed off gameplay. And then eventually it took a while, but it came out. Okay. If I had to guess, I would say probably, what, two to three years away. I'd say two. Man, this looks really good, though. It looks incredible. Yeah, yeah. Good for them. And this game is going to sell like hotcakes. Oh, yeah, for sure. Just given how fast Black Myth Wukong sold. I don't even know the updated sales numbers for Wukong, but that was one of those ones that did, what, like 10 million in the first week? Like one of those unheard of, like, wow, I can't believe this new IP did this well sort of game.

38:39I have so much I want to talk to you about, about fighting in video games. Uh-huh. But they're both from embargoed games. Okay. You know what I mean? Oh, sure. We got to talk. We have to have an actual conversation outside of cameras at some point. Put on a game. I got another video I want to show you all from an embargoed presentation. I think it's more Andy than you. But I think you'll enjoy it. More Andy than me? Yeah. Okay. Does it have like mechs? I like mechs though. No, I would either have mechs. What does Andy like that? That's like far off from what I like. I feel like me and Andy are just...

39:11I was like, me and Andy are the same person in different fonts. Yeah. Not wrong. Let's get to story number four. The first trailer for Paramount's Golden Axe cartoon contains magic, meta humor, and a release date. This is Chris Cullin at VGC. You're right. It's a Paramount trailer. Can we react? Kevin, don't hit it. I don't know if we can, can we? I don't know the rules around this. I don't know. I think we get... I know we avoid movie trailers and TV trailers a lot. Yeah. So maybe we don't. Kevin, how do you feel about that? I feel like we probably should, right? It's a live streaming. I don't feel great.

39:43Yeah. So here's what I want to do, though. I can show it to just you guys. I was going to say Golden Axe is my old shit. So I'd like to let me read the story and then let's react and we'll do the sync and we'll hit it and it's 145 and I'll tell you what's happening. We'll enjoy it. Okay, our audience. But let me read the audio is going to be on. Yeah, is that possible for us? Well, I mean, that's that that part's the it's for everyone. Well, no, because I think the audio is one of the things that gets its claim. So we can't do that. We can watch it. No. Let me read it.

40:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:What if I what if I read it and then you pull it up on your screen and watch watch it there? Okay. Well, I read it. I like your idea. And then you can just talk about it. And I got my AirPods in my little... Oh, okay. I like that. So I can listen off my thing in here because I want to hear shit. I don't care. Yeah. I'm not seeing it, but I'll look at it, I guess. What's your golden axe? Nothing. Really? Okay. Ask me what golden axe is about. I could not tell you. Man, I'll tell you. It's about an axe that's golden. When I had that fucking goddamn Sega Genesis. Yeah. I was rocking golden axe. It was all about that shit.

40:42Me and my friend. Everybody else is playing Link to the Past. And you're like, I got golden axe, though. No, that was the life of a Sega kid. Man. You only know Sonic is a popular franchise. I know him as me on the playground. I'd be like, Mario sucks! No idea why I hate Mario, but I hate Mario because my parents bought me a Sega. Alright, you tell me when to hit it. Oh, I tell you when to hit it? And I'm going to read while you watch the thing? That's what you wanted! Do you want to watch it muted? Yeah, play it muted. Let's all sync it up. Kevin, you count me in and I'll hit it. You want me to count you in?

41:13Yeah. Do it. Alright. play in three two all right so the trailer is playing for both of us i'm going to read

41:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:the article that's going to describe what's happening as first posted by entertainment weekly the trailer for the show which is based on the sega video game series reveals that it will start streaming on paramount plus on september 16th it also shows that the show is aiming for a comical satirical take on the fantasy genre and video games with a number of instances of meta humor poking fun at the medium quote we're going to do what we do best heroine terris flair says at one point in the trailer. Face a series of progressively harder enemies until we have a big final battle with Death Adder. And then we'll kill him for good.

41:52Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Later in the trailer, another character is heard shouting at a large enemy, quote, you better not be another mini boss. You better be the final one. End quote. That's where I stopped the article. I'm looking at the trailer right now. I was kind of showing it. Still got a minute left. We still got a minute left. This works really good. I really like the animation style. Yeah. Like this looks like something I would have watched growing up on like. Yeah. Disney Channel or Cartoon Network. That's my thing is I'm watching it. I'm trying to, and I'm listening to you and I'm watching the thing. Like I'm trying to see how adult the humor is because I would like to watch it with Ben.

42:24I mean, I'm seeing a lot of blood. Yeah, there's a lot of blood. There is blood in this trailer. A lot of blood spread. Yeah, yeah. It's probably too much blood. And there's a sexy wolf man that just popped up.

42:37Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Man, this really does look like something I would have watched in 2006. On one of my favorite channels. That's funny. She yelled Sega. Her battle cry there was Sega. That's funny. Stop first. Ask questions later. Yeah. You like that? I like that. All right. That seems like it'll be one season. Yeah. It'll be gone. I mean, yeah. Not that that's good or bad. I mean, that's how life works, I guess, out there. I'm not going to make time for it, but I'll check out the first episode. Okay. Kevin, do we still have Paramount Plus? I forget. We do. Every time I log in, I reset the password. Then about two months later, Kevin texts me.

43:18He's like, what's password?

43:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I keep forgetting to cancel mine. I'm doing a rewatch of Avatar The Last Airbender, so I'm heavily using it right now. You watch the movie? Yeah, I watch the movie. God, I need to watch the movie. The movie's good. There's a weird shadow next to their nose that I just can't get over. And the voices are weird because they're different. Yeah. It happens. It does happen. Uh, bless. Yes. Golden Axe, the cartoon series on Paramount Plus being something I watched the entire season of would be huge news. Yeah. Also, are you watching Lanterns? Yeah. Oh, dude, that first episode. Fuck. Is there a second episode?

43:59No, no, no, no. And as somebody who has no idea what day it is, because my days all feel like Mondays. Yeah. I'm always like, oh, it's not, it's not Sunday. It's not really Sunday. Lanterns episode one. I've not seen anybody online say this, but the show is just men in black to me. It's just a serious men in black. Yeah. I mean, people are hung up on the true detective comparisons. Oh, yeah. I've seen that a lot. But yeah, I'm watching. It's very men in black. Yeah. Yeah.

44:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The interrogation scene is so many black protagonists has an older white partner that's been doing this longer. He's who's gruff, surly. And there there's a guy who could be an alien who he's figuring out. I'm like, this is men in black. This is like a good men in black show. Yeah. I like it a lot. Well, anyways, if if Paramount Plus is Golden Axe cartoon was even half as good as Lanterns, that'd be big news. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I need to know about, where would I go? You'd go to our last news story, the We News Channel, where we cover all the small news items you need to know about.

44:53X, D, C, S, R, T, R, 1, 2, 5, terrible name, says Lantern's mentioned. Remember, everybody, I did do a Greg Way spoiler cast for episode one and a review as Greg Way on Monday. So maybe go watch that. Kick money into something you love. Otherwise, we're out of business. Or we get rid of Greg. We put Nick in the seat. You have a lot of people arguing with you about the Kojima thing. So wait, nobody's watching Nick Way. I did comedy again last night. I suck. I suck. Everybody hates my mustache. What do I do? He just repeats the same thing. I keep getting shorter. I don't think that's true. Number five, Wii News.

45:28Fantasy Life Eye, the girl who steals time is now available on mobile. RuneScape Dragon Wilds is coming to Game Pass at launch. Mixtape is coming to Mac. Truck Coon is supporting me from another world is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 14th. and Pokemon TCG Pocket Booster Pack Team Rocket's Ambition launches August 27th. And that's it for the Wii News. As we jump in to the one, the only, the Super Chats. Remember, you can be part of the show. Kind of funny. YouTube.com slash kindoffunnygames. Go over there. Super Chat while we're live to be in it.

46:05We already said Dusk Bloods Gamescast happening right after this. Just mere seconds away now. You have guests coming in, yeah? No. Oh, no, that changed. That changed. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We have a question to set you up, okay? Okay. Onimus Prime says, Do you think because of Duskbloods we are farther out from a traditional from Souls-like? Three to four years? Or is it possible that a non-Miyazaki game came... Or is it possible a non-Miyazaki game sooner? Kind of a bummer it'll be at least five to six years already. I mean, it's only a bummer

46:37Blessing Adeoye Jr.:if you don't like Elden Ring Night Rain and if you won't like Duskbloods. um i think that's what they're implying yeah and i but i is it because of dustbloods that these games could come out later i guess maybe if you look at it that way um but i don't see elden ring night rain and dustbloods as being this having the same um amount of like development time and like needing the same amount of resources for like an elden ring or like a mainline rpg from them and so like i wouldn't be surprised if you get another from soft game in two years time oh okay yeah i mean they put dude they've been damn nearly yearly with their releases for the last however long right like you had elden ring you have i'm wearing the shirt for armored cord six um you had night rain you had shadow of the urge tree right you had now you have dustbloods that is still they're still staying this year so if they keep up with that cadence it's like you're not going to wait that long for the next from software game fair enough ashes eight no ashes x79 pro photo tip for bless always a hand in your pocket in the other hand doing or holding something your phone your chin jacket lenses etc okay if i see you fucking start taking photos one hand your pocket your phone out or doing this shit and we're not like making fun of something i'm not i'm not about i kind of i kind of hold on stand up and do it get in the middle so

48:04pocket i fuck with it actually i don't do it again yeah that actually looks pretty good that looks pretty good yeah fuck no that is good that is good okay actually you know what i take it back i apologize that's really good you were saying nah okay well those people look like me so they don't go say erin lime super chats and says uh we news for greg specifically the metal gear solid devs confirmed on twitter that all the items in metal gear solid 4 that required passwords parentheses which needed an mgo2 server connection and parentheses can now be accessed via taking photos in game i was up at night worrying about it aaron i don't know what they're talking about it's just you know worrying about all the different stuff you can unlock and get going or whatever i'll tell you what when volume two drops and i install it first thing i'm doing is going to peace walker i'm glad you're solid force here i love middle your solid for like everybody i'm doing a peace walker run we're not we're not fucking around i mean i'm i'm pro can i say

48:59Blessing Adeoye Jr.:something yeah fuck roger and mike with all their fucking just stop right there yeah that's what i'm saying fuck roger mike with other marathon streams oh we're gonna play through all of skyrim put me and you in there and let's just play all peace walker that's what i'm saying peace walker marathon i'm saying man you know what i mean while we walk we get a treadmill in there yeah because nobody's ever done it before it's never gonna do it was crouch the whole time you know what i mean crouch walk on the treadmill just like i'll make it two minutes just like what i fucking did to big boss in that fucking game his back would be blown out horrible i'll tell you what it's been Tim always talks about you know being in the shower and thinking about Xbox I've been in the shower thinking about Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker yeah like like I'm gonna play it on PC over PlayStation really why I the PlayStation trophies are what would draw me but the idea of being on a plane and oh yeah my rock is like unstoppable shit what that's a forever game of go do it is it coming out on switch do you know yeah the volume two is coming out on switch chat keep me honest but yeah that's coming on to yeah you're right right it's like i feel like i mean because it's just like where i am in life like when peace walker comes out why it's coming out what in a week or whatever we're in the throes of september games so it's not like i'm doing a i'm jumping in stop everything i'm platinuming it no that's a really so then it's just gonna be something i fuck around with every so often so why would i you know i just feel like that is it i mean but it just sold me it feels like i might do the same thing it feels like sacrilege but that's where i'm at uh tiny bearded heart says love the shirt Greg dropping my sister off at Mizzou for her freshman year today congratulations to your sister for making the best decision of her life while you're there of course go to CJ's Hot Wings ask for Ty Moore when he comes out say you're Greg Miller's best friend from kind of funny games but don't act like you work here you know he'll understand David super chat and says another point against Greg he was talking shit about Robbie Ray as Ghost Rider bless I know you watched Asians of Shield educate this fool here's what I'll point out yeah is that as always in our audience full of amazing people, they're a bunch of dumb motherfuckers.

50:57But when I'm talking shit about Robbie Reyes in Midnight Suns, I'm talking about him in Midnight Suns. I'm not condemning the entire character in every art form known to man. Of course. I'm saying he sucks in Midnight Suns, just like most of the conversations in Midnight Suns, while the card gameplay is great.

51:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, if you ask me, the second half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that's after the Ghost Rider arc in that season is the better part of that season. I mean, I like the Ghost Rider stuff too, but like, I'm not going to sit here and just defend the Ghost Rider. Robbie Reyes to Greg. I don't even remember shit about what happened in Ghost Rider. I remember the LMDs. Ant Hill 8 has a chat that says he does suck in Midnight Suns. Thank you. Thank you for having me with that. All right. Go Go Monster Truck Super Chats and says Greg is the Kojima of kind of funny in that he's a fucking pervert. I should have read that one all the way.

51:45Bander SN says in 2015, Kojima was forced to work in a closet and then fired. if Greg is the Kojima of kind of funny 2015 bless you know what to do Bander SN you're another one of these dumb motherfuckers we worked in a closet Kevin knows Kevin's in there right now in the same dimensions where he used to run the entire fucking company did IGN ever put you or lock you in the closet to work because someone could say that you think I was fucking doing SimCity let's plays all weekend long in luxury no I was in a capture bay hunkered down IGN was your Konami they were wow Johnny Poo says late birthday tax support the things you love happy birthday Johnny Poo

52:27let's shadles super chats and says played and beat trails in the sky first chapter over the past few weeks loved it so much can't wait for the second chapter in less than a month only one year between releases it's crazy hell yeah I'm sure Michael painted her and played for you uh Deshawn fortune 912 says men in black with green lanterns is exactly what what I was hoping for when i realized it wasn't the space opera i wanted and then final one nate g says just subbed on your patreon again because greg told me to love y 'all we love you nate thank you for your support we couldn't do it without you um of course bless i'm excited to hear you talk about the dusk bloods over on the one the only the kind of funny games guys uh but before we get there we do have to keep the record straight with kind of funny.com slash you're wrong uh one comes from Dexter who says kind of funny games showdown air Cliff Blasinski reports via Twitter that he was in fact not lead designer on bullet storm in addition to doom 64 he confirmed the wiki was wrong Kevin I sent it to you I think I saw this and but like that's not accurate to the question the question I yeah if you pull it up because the question was which one did he was he yeah they so Dexter points out note since I saw Cliff Blasinski has made his points his post protected.

53:43I can see it where he says he had screenshotted me on the thing. The question said

53:53boom boom. The question reads on the screen, which of the following games is Cliff Blasinski not credited as a designer? A designer, yeah. Bolt Storm Lawbreakers, Jazz Jackrabbit, Doom 64. And he says, for the record, I contributed to Bolt Storm. I wasn't lead designer. I guess he's... Six and one half does the other. Designer is, that's the thing. Developers.

54:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I will say for that specific question, I was pulling from Wikipedia and on Wikipedia, he is credited as a designer. Yeah, that's what people are throwing. So I'm throwing Wiki under the boat. That's on Wikipedia. That's not on me. I'm sorry. And it's fine. I wasn't going to roll credits on all these games to make sure. Jumping off of one of the super chats there. Greg is the best wrote in on you're wrong. It said not at you're wrong, but trails in the sky. Second chapter demo came out last night. and then snug says nick is getting shorter you start getting shorter around 40 oh really and they're citing cleveland clinic so i gotta believe that because cleveland's never wrong because cleveland rocks i can't let myself get to 40 sorry everybody that's another episode of kind of funny games daily in the books if you enjoyed it like subscribe share follow on youtube twitch and of course podcast services around the globe if you really loved it of course support it.
