In short

Tim Schafer (Double Fine) discusses Double Fine’s return to independence and the studio’s near-term plan, centered on “Amnesia Fortnite 2026” (a Double Fine game jam + documentary + Kickstarter). He also covers broader industry news briefly (e.g., Riot ending 2XKO development; Dave Bautista as Kratos in God of War).

Guest backgrounds

Tim Schafer is a “legendary game developer” and the face of independent video games; host Greg Miller is the co-host of Kinda Funny Games Daily.

Key claims

Double Fine’s IP/publishing rights returned after leaving Microsoft, and buying Double Fine games supports the studio to extend runway. The Kickstarter (page published; live Aug 31) will let backers vote on four prototypes from many team ideas, then choose which becomes a “small game.” Independence restores freedom for public game jams and community involvement.

Notable examples

Game jam history (e.g., Stacking, Costume Quest). Studio updates: “Kiln” price drop and upcoming maps/modes. PAX West plans: fan meetup Sept 6 at The Diller Room; Tim signing sessions.

2:37What's up everybody. Welcome to kind of funny games daily for Friday, August 21st, 2026. I'm one of your hosts, Greg Miller alongside double fines, legendary game developer. Hello. The face of independent video games. Once again, Tim Schaefer. I'm here. I brought this newspaper to prove that. I'm alive. It's today's paper. It's not AI. Yeah, this isn't AI. I want to make sure you get a good shot of it because you know how hard it is to find a newspaper? It's bad. It's bad trying to find a newspaper these days. Mitch McConnell. I'm alive. Hi, everybody. How's it feel with your life? It's good. Yeah?

3:11Yeah, I never take that for granted. Yeah, so we are an independent game company yet again. You sure are. We have lots to talk about about it, all right? This is a weird mashup of a Gamescast Games Daily because, like, obviously we got the news in Batista. That's huge. Yeah. I walk alone. But then more importantly, you guys are just breaking news right now about what's going on with your future. So I want to dive right into that after I remind you that this is kind of funny games daily each and every weekday. Nerdiest news you need to know about in the video games world. If you're watching live super chat with your questions for Tim Schafer.

3:42And of course, with your comments, thoughts and opinions about the day's news on YouTube dot com slash kind of funny games. We couldn't do this at our producers on Patreon dot com slash kind of funny. So thank you, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Delaney the Somp Twining and Lacks Nomad. For now, let's begin the show with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. Time for some news. Six items on the Roper Report. A pick-up does it. Great job, Barrett. We start with story number one, the future of Double Fine. Oh, whoa. You're here to break the news. I'm getting ready to learn some stuff. I'm nice and close to you, too.

4:23Like I told you, you got to be close to it. You got to be ready to go. I got to hold it like this? You don't have to, but if you're going to turn like me, like you naturally are going to, you want, there you go. What's up? We're here. We're live. Portia. Tim Schafer. There's Portia. Don't forget about him. My comfort. My emotional support. He's the only one we got right now. Don't ruin him, okay? Don't get him too oily. Yeah. Don't get him excited about pee in your lap. Exactly. You remember old Portia. You remember old Portia. This isn't about Portia, my dead dog. This is instead about your very much alive company.

4:48Yeah. Double Fine. Yeah. We were, I mean, if you're new and not like me and old, And then we were joined Xbox for seven years. Yeah. Seven years. Crazy. That went fast. And now we're independent again. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. We emerged. Jesus Christ. Thank you, Barrett. I want to talk about so much about it. Yeah. In the how, the why, I imagine the fear, then the joy, maybe the fear again, the turmoil of it all, and yada, yada, yada. But I think most important is that you're here to talk about the company's future. Because we've known about this. This has been in the news. We've talked about you guys going independent again.

5:25We just saw Compulsion yesterday, and now it's very similarly. Hey, we're owner-operated. But you guys are going one step further. Right now, our Kickstarter project has been launched. Yeah. Okay? Or I'm sorry. The page has been published. It doesn't launch until August 31st. That's when you can join. But we do have Amnesia Fortnite 2026, Indie Reboot. A Double Fine Productions game jam, documentary, and Kickstarter campaign launches August 31st and runs through most of September. But you can sign up here and now to get notified. We're going to do a game jam live on the internet in which our backers will get to choose which of our myriad of ideas get made into four new prototypes and which of those final four will become a real, parentheses, small game.

6:05You may even snag some sweet merchables and rarities along the way. All alongside the process, Two Player Productions will be filming all the fun to produce one of their award-winning documentary spectaculars. I'm just finding out about this now. Sure you are. This is crazy. Exactly, I know. They just told you to buy a newspaper and come to Kind of Funny. It'll all net out as we go. You'll find out when you're there what we're doing. But no, we're really, you know, being independent again, we can go back to doing a lot of things we were doing before, like crazy game jams. You know, our Amnesia Fortnite game jam where we like split into small groups and we make a game in two weeks.

6:35What games have come out of those in the past? Stacking. Yep. Costume Quest. Woo! Yeah. Do I need to come on Game Jam Day and pitch Costume Quest 3? Oh, you have some ideas for it? I have a lot of ideas. Well, mostly we need, it's the first time you gave us five bucks for two. I did remember that. We're going to need ten. I can give you ten, no problem. 10 bucks to get three going. I'd love to do that. But game jams and, because, you know, we got a little bit of runway on the departure to, like, sign some games. We want to sign some game deals and get going. It's kind of a scary time to be out there.

7:08But the runway, like I say, it's a runway, not a freeway. Like, it doesn't go forever. It's just a little patch where we can take off on our own power. And we want to extend it a little bit. And so we're doing a game jam, which we used to do a lot. We used to do these game jams where we did games like those. and we used to do them publicly. So we used to do them publicly where if you join the Kickstarter, you get to vote on every... You get to hear all the team's pitches because the whole team gets a pitch. Everyone at Double Fine gets a pitch a game. And if you join that, you get to help vote for which one we actually make and we'll make like four of them.

7:39And then you get to vote which one we work on for a little bit longer to polish up and actually release. It's like we've always been a studio about creativity and just trying anything. Like, let's try this. Let's do it. Yeah, we can do an RTS game. Let's do that. so we're doing that again and including the community in it we've always had a really tight relationship with the community and they participate and they help us make decisions i got a non-cost request idea i'd like to come in and pitch to if you don't want me oh okay i know i don't work there but maybe you give me like a janitorial job for the day you know it's one of those things that's how we we get in okay no i mean yeah you see this guarantee that everyone you'll have an army of people like you'll be like come and vote for my game no my audience definitely knows when i have a bad idea trust me the kind of funny eyes would show me like that's cute Greg no we're voting for these four real game ideas well I don't know we haven't heard it yet do you want to pitch it now or do you want to wait I mean I think that'd be unfair to the other competitors that's true because there is something here I think that could be yeah yeah yeah it'll be like the 31st I think in the actual launch I'll clear my schedule I'll come on by you know be ready for it yeah yeah I do you know you can't be doing what you do for this long without having like multiple game ideas sure you take in so much it's just gotta you do output a lot on your show yeah but there's a lot you know what game you know a game is missing you know a game i would want to play exactly yeah yeah that's kind of what we made when we talked about this too it was kind of like no one makes these kind of like happy little character-based platformers yeah i want to make the games i play so what games would greg miller want to play oh i've got some ideas uh but it's not about me right now on august 31st when i steamroll the competitors and i am the game jan winner of amnesia fortnite it will be instead we're talking about double fine being back to being independent amnesia fortnite 2026 documentary series all this amazing stuff how terrifying or exciting or everything else under the sun have the past few weeks been i would just summarize it by saying it's been a lot yeah we've been through a lot and it's just been a crazy few months but it really activated i think the whole team you know it's just like it wasn't like we got uncomfortable with microsoft but we had gotten pretty i mean you know it's pretty secure and then also like hey you gotta start flapping your wings and get this thing flying on your own but it just like you know activated a certain amount of creativity that's always been what's kept the company alive we've always like in moments of like do or die we've always like well i got this idea and i got this idea and i got this idea and everyone's coming forward with ideas and we want to put them all together into this this game jam did you have more you're talking about the runway that was a funny way to put it like did you have more runway than what we publicly knew when everything was happening with microsoft and how we're switching things up and changing like or was it as seemingly like oh we got to get, we got to, we got to start flapping our wings right now.

10:14We got to figure this out. Cause I don't even know how you go about being like, I got to figure out how to not only save the company or buy the company or figure out the new ownership agreements. And yeah, they like, I don't know. It's kind of like the way we were before. Like when we were like finished brutal legend too, we like, we have a short amount in the runway, like a certain amount of time. We can't just sit, you know, we have to get demos ready and pitch games and like get out there and hustle and get, I mean, it's, it's not, it's kind of a scary process, but it's at least it's a very fun, positive process and that you're making cool things and you're excited about them and then you're sharing how excited you are with people and people with money hey are you feeling where's my camera hey are you feeling the red light i'll tell you there hey are you feeling there's a red light it's right there here are three hi are you burdened with excess cash and we'd like to turn that into art and beautiful maybe more art and more money then why don't you uh sign one of our games because we are working on a bunch of cool games for you and you and me and you oh do you have some extra No.

11:08I'm kind of funny. He's got a little bit. How much do you want? Well, at least the 10. Let's start with the 10 bucks. 10 bucks you got for Cost of Question 3? That's easy. I'll start that Kickstarter right now or whatever. But, you know, I like talking about the games we're working on with people and it's, you know, pitching them. And it's just it's always a weird time. Like, it's a weird business. You don't say. Yeah. And we have been kind of, you know, away for seven years from, you know, from this is the part of the game is just learning, like, where is the money sitting right now? Who has it?

11:34Who's spending money? What are they looking for? And it's totally different. Have you heard about Saudi Arabia?

11:42All the comedians going to Oh yeah, it's going to be like that Yeah, exactly There's one player that's kind of like Everything's changed and people we used to just go and talk to We used to hit these same five people They're all in different positions now But they're always new people who are wanting to get into games You just got to find out who they are So hey, if you're a new person Hit up me I got some cool games I want to share with you So I guess that is a question then of like Where is Double Fine right now? Obviously, you're not going to tell me names of games or whatever. But like... South of Market.

12:13By the old D of A. When you come to Pokemon Worlds, swing by Double Fine's office. No. Where are you guys at in terms of like... You have runway. So that's good. But we need to make something to make more money and do the whole thing, obviously. Yeah. Is Amnesia Fortnite like... Is that the... Okay, we're going? Or are there other projects you are working on? There are other projects we're working on. And we want to have as much runway as possible. Okay. and increase our chances of, and we also just like to have fun and do Game Jam. Of course. So it's staying the wrong way, and also there's, we're still, and people have asked you, like I saw a question there, like do you guys make the money on games?

12:46Like everything we got back, the transfer of the IP came back to us, and we get the publishing rights back to all our games, and it still says, you know, Microsoft on some of them, but it just takes a while for the dollar process, but all the, you know, when people buy our games, it supports the studio, so if you're curious, buying any of our games helps support the studio, and we can turn that money into revenue that helps us extend that runway. So Kiln is still, we're doing updates to Kiln, new maps and modes and stuff. You have an update and stuff's coming up soon, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kiln's getting a big price drop next week and has some updates to do.

13:18We're adding features and dropping the price because we're crazy. And that's my promise to you. And that's over there now. Kiln. Wherever the red light is, you go there. I love Kiln. You guys are always great sports about playing Kiln here, having good times. I'll tell you what I'm going to do right now for you, all right? I own them elsewhere. but I'm buying Costume Quest 1 and 2 right now the bundle on Steam wait everybody let's go Halloween's right around the corner I don't know if y 'all know this there's a Costume Quest comic book storybook hardcover that came out the Grubbins Grubbins there's a TV show on Amazon never watched it I don't think we get any money from that yeah don't worry about that it's good the book though I read to Ben at night and he wants to play the games now exactly so I've been very much like you know what I'm gonna wait and we'll play the games again together But I'm buying it.

14:02Everybody go buy Custom Quest 1 and 3 right now. I played last Halloween. I played both of them all the way through and occasionally do that. Yeah, so yeah, you can buy our games and support them and check out our Kickstarter and play Killm and do all kinds of cool. So where are you at right now? What is the balance between... Because when, you know, we talk about this stuff on the show, obviously most of the time we're just talking out our ass. We've never run a development studio. We've never done any of this stuff. But when you guys went with Microsoft originally, I was like, oh man like that's got to be so freeing for tim obviously and the team because i know what bogs me tim and nick down is we just want to make videos and play video games but then it is well now who's doing hr compliance and who's talking about we're doing a live event who's going to get the permits and who's all the stupid stuff that you wouldn't think about our jobs doing obviously when you run the studio that's on you and a bunch of other people as well but like that's worrying you you go underneath somebody else suddenly somebody's worrying about health care it's not you now that that all swings back is that are you excited about all the minutiae bullshit you have to be caught up in i mean we are what was called a limited integration studio like these studios that have uh kept their own like we had our own slack channels like we had all our own stuff uh you know we actually didn't integrate most of that stuff with uh microsoft we still did our own payroll and everything so a lot of that stuff's not gonna change at all okay so we're um yeah, we, there's, you know, there's pros and cons.

15:25There's lost ability when you're company, but there's a different, there's always something you have to, I'm always thinking about the survival of the company, whether internal or external, there's always a way that you could live or die and you have to like tend to that. And so it's just a different set of rules. Yeah. Yeah. So you're used to it. Okay. Yeah. So now my boss is you. The red camera. The players. Oh, my boss is really. Oh, now the camera's off. Now I went to the giant Y. That can happen? Yeah. It's that camera over there. You're showing the whole side of the behind those scenes. Yeah, that's when I come in with a brief.

15:52Oh, he just wanted to be on camera. He just wanted to wave. Exactly, exactly. Let me give you a couple super chats. Can I answer your question where we're at? That's where we're at. You're being dodgy and cagey. It's fine. Wait, wait, wait. I want to answer your question. How much money is in the bank? We have some money in the bank. We have a runway. We are in talks with publishers and stuff. Okay. We're like starting the process. We've pitched our games. We're like talking about who's interested in what, and we just want to have as much time, so we're doing this Kickstarter and stuff to extend that.

16:15We're going to PAX again. That's the other things we used to do all the time. Yeah. And now we're going to PAX, and we're going to talk to the fans and have, like, a fan meetup. Come to PAX. And we're going to sell rare merch and do signings and all that kind of stuff. What costume quest stuff? Get COVID and all that stuff we used to do. What? What costume quest stuff are you bringing? What costume staff? What costume are you on in my? We don't know. Okay, cool. I'm just saying, I understand it would be a tight turnaround. Yeah. But you do have, like, if you could get costume quest throughout two months, that's great.

16:44I'll go, oh, you're not talking about merch. I mean, the game. Well, I mean, at the merch at PAX, that'd be great. Whenever you got a new shirt, that'd be cool. I'll go in the archive and dig out some rares for you. Maybe a jean jacket with rent on it. I would take that. You know what I mean? I hope so. Are you writing this down? These are award-winning ideas, let me tell you. Jean jacket embossed on the back of Tasmanian Devil thing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go, go, go, go, go. Really what I'm drawing off of is the Rosie O'Donnell jean jacket I keep seeing going around on Instagram. You see the Jimmy Kimmel thing.

17:11The fringe on there? It's like leopard skin. Let me give you a few different questions here from the old Super Chats, all right? Onimus Prime Super Chats says, Tim, I know Double Fine is going to Double Fine and make these wild and creative small passion projects, but the world, me, and Barrett need Psychonauts 3, possibly a Psychonauts 1 remake. Also, work with Jack Blackmore, please. I love that. I love that idea. Jack is pretty busy these days. I don't know if you know, he's got like eight movies. He's always got something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's pretty busy, but we keep touch, and he's a good sport.

17:44you know never say never similar Jay Dublin says Tim I am glad that Double Fine is independent again my only question is Brutal Legend 2 when oh great great question I mean I already say never say never so now I gotta come up with it we're not working on that now but maybe someday I mean there's a lot there to work with but we just right now we're gonna make a whole bunch of crazy little weird things

18:12how do you as you jump back into this lands this video game tsunami look at the games you want to make the games you need to make your mate and even in the calling out the amnesia fortnight thing this parentheses small games right i've i've had this conversation on shows for a while where right now we say it lovingly nobody has a better name for it friend slop the peak games uh and i which isn't slop obviously but you know what i mean crash out crew um big walk these games that are all social and you get your friend to go buy it it's only five bucks and everybody jumps in and has a weekend with it and loves it or whatever i want somebody to do that with small single player experiences but i know that i miss uh the worries of steam refunds of all these different things yada yada yada like art how do you set your sights on Double Fine being the size it is and being sustainable and being able to make smaller games.

19:11Does that make sense? Because I mean, like, again, whenever you guys come up in conversation, oh, you're in San Francisco. It's so expensive to rent there. That studio can't be cheap. Oh, this, that, the other, blah, blah, blah. Like, you're still making it happen, though. That's not a lie. Yeah, we just do it. I mean, we just do... The kind of genre you're talking about, those Friends but Not Slop titles do fit a lot with what we're talking about in Aneja Fortnite, because it's not about the polish, it's about the ideas. Let's try this idea, let's try this idea, let's try this idea. So there might be some pitches, who knows, when we do AF, that are like that kind of genre.

19:44We'd really like to try that, because it is fun to just present a lot of crazy, creative ideas that don't have to be super polished. It's harder, like, you know, it's more challenging to figure out a way to brand that when you're part of a large company, like Xbox, but, you know, Game Pass was a nice opportunity to cut games of all sizes on there, but as independent, we have much more freedom to make games of any size, as we'll be showing soon. Okay. Fair enough, that was good. Good answer. You did good. I like that one. Unknown Man Super Chats and says, Tim, you've been my hero since middle school.

20:18I hope to make indie games one day. Thank you for inspiring me with your work. Shout out Grim Fandango. Remember that game? Oh, you still have the case. Love that game. I buy a new, every time I get a new phone, I buy a new case. Bootleg, sorry. Well, who are you apologizing to? That's you.

20:38I'm just going to read them, okay? I can't help it if people still want more Brutal Legend and Psychonauts. Matt Superchats, it would be fun for a new Brutal Legend game, but all the metal icons are mostly gone. That's an interesting wrinkle on it. You know, there's new metals every day. I don't listen to it, but apparently they made metal after 1989. but no I do I did actually uh making Brutal Legend there's all that stuff I loved in high school and then making the game I found out a whole bunch of other bands and stuff that I'd never heard of and then since then people like approach me with metal bands and so I'm always like there's always new metal bands and always new legends there's still you know we still have Rob Halford still with us and Lita Ford and um yeah yeah but we did lose Ozzy and Lemmy and a lot of the people that made special I mean I really love that that you can play Brutal Legend and see this really beautiful representation of those guys.

21:25Like, it's their voice. Lemmy plays his own base in the game and stuff like that. So it's like this little time capsule of these legends in their prime, in their element and stuff. So there's just always new great people that we could have in the game. Do you ever get sick of being like the cult classic guy? Because it's that thing where it's like, and you could, I'm sure, argue a different way, this, that, the other. But I feel like when people talk about their favorite Tim Schafer game, people always come with different answers, whether it be a brutal legend, whether it be a grim Fandango, whether it be psycho, you know what I mean?

22:02Like, I guess, like compare you to another industry legend, Hideo Kojima, right? People are going to jump to Metal Gear because there's like 900 Metal Gear. You know what I mean? Like, it's like, oh, I'm a fan of this guy and this one thing. Whereas for you, oh, stacking, like people can come and swing in on a whole bunch of different stuff. Yeah. Would you rather you just had one franchise that paid all the bills and you didn't have to make your own bootleg merch up? Well, I mean, Kostya Quest made us at least at five bucks, right? We did. But that's a top three. Ten coming. You know what I mean?

22:28I mean, I always feel like no one's going to say no to a bunch of success and that kind of stuff, but I honestly would not trade my games for anybody's Hideo's. I would not be like, I wish I could men in black everybody and say anything. Of course, yeah. Because I love the games we made, and they were exactly the games we wanted to make, and how lucky are we that, like, in life, a lot of people want to have creative lives and it's hard to find that out as a career to have a creative career where you made every crazy idea that came into your head and got to make it the way you wanted that's exactly what we wanted to do the other question I would pivot to is this so yesterday Compulsion Games we're talking about right I'm just my hand's moving don't worry about it I'm just articulating there's a tag no the tattoo oh the tattoo the dog foundifunny.com did you buy yours yet?

23:16oh is that out now? I thought it was just pre-launch right now well yeah i mean it's the world gonna make as many get bought you know what i mean is this the only one that's the only one in the world right now that's the only one no pressure sorry you're asking questions i was asking a question compulsion yesterday now they're you know they're out hey we're owned and operated yet a question bless and i were going back and forth on is the fact that compulsion doesn't have that cachet yet and it doesn't have a tim schaefer to the audience right back to a kojima he can leave konami and then it's kojima productions which is his name so it's kind of cheating but you can go off and you can start double fine and hey it's tim schaefer the forefront of it right even i was talking about bruce straley coming out and being hey we're doing our own independent game and everything be like oh the guy who made last of us right for a small studio that's now independent again or getting spun up and being independent right now what is your advice on how you break through the noise and i know you're talking about coming back to a market that has changed so much but just in general for mind share like you've been so good at becoming a personality and being i mean you see being people's heroes right i mean the messages in here like uh only special features i met tim at e3 in 2016 and he treated me like a friend every time we bumped into each other the whole week he will always have my support mario like well that's a special thing and that's a special relationship and that's why you speak to people those are two different things like one is like you should be a good person i mean like be someone that people want in the rooms like people always say like be someone that i mean everything comes back to you i think that's just general advice about life that you have i think practice in your life is like no matter who you're talking to you're just put out what you put out there is what comes back but as far as like business goes i just can't i'm like a ham like i love attention so it's natural for me like because compulsion does have guillaume and does have a lot of creative who i love he's great i know right there's a lot of like strong authorial voices there too but it's my habit to get up like like you and i both have hosted award shows and i'm scared about the writing and making sure the jokes are good and stuff but once i'm on stage i love people clapping and laughing and you're looking to have a good suit on like this i love very comfortable with that kind of, I think, both of us.

25:19Are you Leo? Probably. No. Different thing. Someone told me that's your Leo. I'm a Leo? No, I'm a Leo. Oh, no. I'm a Leo. I'm the Bull. I'm my dad. I've always been a father figure to me. I figured. But I do, some people like attention, some people don't like attention. Even though I'm very shy in a lot of ways, I do like the attention. So it's natural for me to kind of stand up and ham it up when the camera's on and stuff like that. But it's always touchy because games are not a single person's endeavor. Of course. It's a team. The huge collaborative of works of art and i wouldn't be anywhere without the artists and musicians the programmers and all the people we work with that have just um you know they are these so you gotta one of the things about doing the documentary was just showing like look at all the people that make these games you know and it's it's convenient and it's good for business some way to put a personality out there so you can like get attention and get interviews and get invited onto high quality shows but um it's like you do want people to know the double find is like definitely more than me and it's definitely more than any individual.

26:15It's like ideals, a set of ideals and a certain experience. It's kind of like Asgard, right? A lot like Asgard. It's not a place, it's people. Yeah, and we're gods. And you're gods, yes. We all said that. Shout out, Double Fine in the chat right now. Shout out to the whole Double Fine team watching right now. You all should be making games because, again, I'm coming into this game jam with an idea that will be made. Yeah. So you should try to rise up. And I don't know if that's how game jam works. You know what I mean? It's kind of like when Andy and I made an album and Nick came in, he already rehearsed the song.

26:41I'm like, that's not what we're doing. we want to do in the moment yeah exactly you want to be part of it now cheated it's really good my wife cheated the kickstarter is about the documentary in a lot of ways like the original kickstarter it started as a documentary and the game kind of blew up but like the documentary is this like we want to show people how much people who make games care about them but also show that i feel like anyone watching the documentary someone's going to be like inspired to have a creative life in some way either get into games or be like i'm going to learn how to draw or like look because you see people doing it they're like not a different species than you they're like just like you.

27:13For me, like watching, oh, there it is right now. Look at those guys. Look at them pitching. It's so great because it's like, it's great practice to learn how to pitch in front of people and just, I always feel like you have to get these, you have this tube of ideas always and you have to get the old ideas out of the pipe because they're clogging. It's like a water park. You got to get the people off the end of the tube but then the new ideas can come out. So pitch them even if nobody signs, even nobody wants, like they move on to the next idea. It's really hard to learn as a creative person to like just move the ideas through all the time and not get obsessed with one forever.

27:43Jinkers in the chat points out, Psych Odyssey documentary is awesome. It is awesome. You should watch Psych Odyssey. It's free on YouTube. Crazy. It's like 1 ,900 hours of content. It's a pretty Blu-ray version, of course. Of course. But you can buy and support indie. I mean, you can get that right now at DoubleFind.com alongside a bunch of other cool stuff. Of course, that's where you can click on the Amnesia Fortnite Kickstarter to notify when it goes live. They got the PAX West meetup information there. They got the kiln post-launch roadmap for spring. There's a whole bunch of stuff going on.

28:10that's where you get all your information follow the socials too I'm just a Billy super chat says hey Tim thanks again for signing my PlayStation Vita a day of the dev years ago I hope the studio stays around forever also Psychonauts 3 when we're not putting it we're just letting you know they're there for you lucid dream keeper PS5 when you know what I mean you need money you got these games that people really want and again you could go to steam right now and you could buy costume quest 1 and 2 in a bundle for 20 bucks like I did and then we get that trending and then they have no no reason not to similar daniel please uh please trench slash iron brigade to ps5 slash steam that's here for iron brigade yeah they're they're there yeah it was getting tighter and tighter on me uh matrix uh no i'm sorry marix says love double fine tim any chance dev plays videos will return oh the devs play we love that we got um you know like let's plays but we bring game developers in and we play the games with them and we tell like we had lewis castle come on and talk about um the lion king and greg rice played all the way through the lion king yeah on the sega genesis version and we're just telling all these crazy stories about working with disney and stuff and it's just it's i think developers open up to developers in a different way because they're like oh you know what i'm talking about with this licensing deal and it's like um it's a lot of fun so yeah it's a great idea and the two player would love hearing that you guys like devs play speaking of two player omg lx super chats says hypothetically if the two player cameras were rolling when the news came in about xbox and you would that would that be a new episode of like Odyssey or the first episode of AF 2026?

29:37I mean, uh, they're just around and film. They might be in this room right now. I don't actually know. They're so stealth. Uh, and they're quiet and they just film everything. And then after like 10 years or so, they go like, they figure out like the office where it suddenly airs. It's like the office where they don't know what the story is going to be. Yeah. They're just kind of following what's going on. I mean, you know, and I was like, okay, the story now is either going to be like, I die. Jesus. The studio gets shut down. We never know what's going to happen, but it's going to be a good thing.

30:04Look at that, wearing a Portillo shirt in that shot right there. That's my man. That's my man. That's awesome. Yeah, you know, a fun one for me is when, obviously, you changed video game development forever with the first Kickstarter. You know what I mean? Broken age. What a breakout that was. I remember people being at IGN and eventually being so sick of having to write about Kickstarters launching because you guys... Yeah, you just changed how it was. But it was such a cool moment for me when we were doing Up at Noon and obviously you and Double Fine were such supporters of Up at Noon, including the first guest ever on the pilot that never aired yeah uh but i released the pilot i remember when you came through for what would have been something on probably the broken age whatever slow play but i remember the player the two-player cameras came and they've recorded and then yeah you know like you're saying years later i remember that was like people like you're in the documentary i was like it's so cool it was a fun way to have that finally resurfaced that way yeah because these moments you don't realize how important and the momentous they are often and then years later you're like, oh, that's where we got that idea.

31:02That's cool that it's captured on camera. That's why I keep trying to put all the photos. Look at us. Look at us. Look at us. So young. Look at that. Why didn't I get a haircut? Look how bad that hair is from the side. I mean, it's the wet look. It's the wet look. This is when we were on last legs. Really? We no longer did. See, I never sensed that. We no longer did the interview set. We're like, just put them at the desk. Have the guests come be at the desk. Oh, I had a swag for you. I should have gotten you some swag. No, you did enough for me. Now you're going to make Cost Quest 3. I feel like I still have that shirt.

31:30I like my beard better now. It's a little out of control. No, it looks great. I think we both look a lot better. Oh, no, for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We grew it to our looks. We realized your glasses much cooler. You and I are just getting better with age, which is nice. We have to say this. Who's going to say this about us? I mean, no, I'll say it straight face. I look better than ever. I told Jen this the other day. I was brushing my teeth. I look awesome. You know what I mean? Y 'all remember what I looked like when I first started. I'm just getting better. The same thing's happening to me. I brush my teeth and I say to my wife, you know, Greg Miller looks awesome.

31:59I was just thinking about him. Are you thinking about him again? He's just such a good looking man. I shouldn't do that. The gray really works for him. Sorry, everybody. Ron's Confitted Vid says, all I can say is thank you for making games like Headlander. Also, my YouTube channel turns 20 today. Congratulations to you. Yeah. Headlander, Lee Petty Jam. Yeah. He put him in the key. Massive Chalice. Brad and Massive Chalice. Yeah. There's a big. People still play Massive Chalice. They should. Maybe we should make another one SkySuperChats It says Now the Double Fine Has been freed from their shackles I will be purchasing Keeper Please keep making Goofy and weird shit Tim We love it Okay Alright Good enough gamer Broken Age might be My favorite Double Fine game But Psychonauts 2 Was exactly what I needed At the time it came out Double Fine rules That's nice I like Psychonauts 2 And Broken Age Elijah Wood was in that He was You still have to talk to him He's a good sport Not like Once I sent him a holiday card Okay You sent me a holiday card too Well thank you That's cool Look at that we're holiday card brothers he's a good sport and a big nerd and yeah i like him a lot he's always fun all right and then our final one for tim for right now comes from dan reb v who says thanks for spotlighting such a great studio the industry needs double fine love the doc love double fine love kind of funny keep up the amazing work heart that's so nice i mean the support since this all happened has been just amazing people reaching out and wanting to support us and asking like do you guys get any of the money and stuff like yeah we do thank you we love the support and And the fans have always just inspired us.

33:23Especially it's going to be exciting to go to PAX. Because seeing, as you know, like in person, nothing replaces that kind of energy you get. Especially because the internet can make you feel like the world's a bad place. Or that some game fans are really angry in general. But when you see them in person, they're not. They're not. They're very lovely people. They're all very lovely people. And in person, they're just like, they come and they just want to talk about things. It's a great reminder that what we do is just a great community for it. If you're going to PAX and you want to see Tim, go to DoubleFind.com, where, of course, you can learn about Amnesia Fortnite, but you can also click on their PAX West stuff here because they're talking about games, merch, art.

34:00Tim Schafer, the big beard himself, that's what they called you here, will be at the show hosting signing sessions every day, so bring things for him to sign or perhaps buy some at the booth. They have high fives for you, too. They have a fan meetup on Sunday, September 6th from 7 p.m. Join us at The Diller Room to play some games, clink glasses with Tim, and maybe even snag some stuff. it's free entry and no PAX badges required we're Indies again now though so we're afraid drinks are on you that's yeah that's new I remember how scrappy we had to be Damon Hatfield and I had a text conversation from San Diego Comic Con this year where I sent him something or he sent me back and forth and then I was he was at Comic Con and I was up here doing something I think I met a fan and he sent a message of like remember when we used to be so scrappy that we would be at Comic Con and just tweet out hey come meet us at this bar and i was like do you remember when we went to dick's last resort and had a meet and greet and i everybody who showed up i shook their hand and then told them ig and gave us no budget you have to you have to pay for your food or it comes out of my paycheck and they did the one in boston is it i went to one of your meet and greets in boston oh these fuckers are cheap oh my god the one where you licked my nipple air licked air licked never forget yeah yeah i can find that photo i still got a response but it was the air like i mean yeah yeah but that yeah that was that was another one yeah that was a that was a boston one in a bar for I mean, I like that.

35:18That was when you were juicing, too. You could be... Oh, my God. You were just drinking juice nonstop. You were wasting away in front of me. Don't do it. Don't do it, you guys. You're going to start a lot of problems with me. You don't need to show this. We were younger. This is... What do you mean? This is how far back we go. How do I do this? That's how old I am now. Back when nipple licks were just a way that people... Men would express their friendship. And it was. That was a bonding experience. Why was your shirt off? That's my gimmick. There was that. You know what I mean? when we'd go places and I would do the thing.

35:47Take your shit off to any fan. That's what the kids wanted, man. That's what you do to get people to buy you a drink. I'll take my shirt off. That's what they came for. That's what they expected. Yeah. It's a trick of the... Okay, you won't find it. He's making it with AI right now. He just typed into an AI program. Give me a picture of Tim Schafer. No, I would never do that. I would never kill a lake for a photo that exists. I sent to KF Control. Alright, don't worry about it. It's there. Barrett will have it. There it is. Okay, obviously, that's not Greg. Obviously not. That's not Tim Schafer.

36:20Where's your hair? Where's your beard? Don't get on my kid's hair. This is different than the one I remember looking like I was actually touching it. This one, I'm clearly centimeters away. I think it was just over the years, the story progressed. You know what I mean? I am on the juice diet. Look how skinny my neck is. You were so skinny back then. My hair was all black. I know. That's what the juice did to you. Double Fine's independent again. Yeah. Amnesia Fortnite is coming. You can support it on August 31st. Why did we end with a nipple? Well, you still have a whole show to do. You're not getting off the show.

36:49We have a back half of the show to get through for all the news. Of course, go to DoubleFind.com for all the information on Amnesia Fortnite. PAX West, the price drop that is coming to Killen alongside a big update that will be coming as well. So that's very, very exciting. Tim's not going anywhere. He is here for the rest of the show. 42:35Servers will remain on beyond 2026, beyond, and 2XKO will be playable on all platforms, it claimed. Riot has also committed to adding new content throughout the remainder of this year, including two new characters. Quote, over the last few months, we've been monitoring 2XKO's trajectory closely, and what we've seen is painting a clear, consistent picture. While a lot of you jumped in to try the game, and there's an incredible community that plays every day, we haven't seen enough players stick with the game to get a path towards sustainability through the rest of 2026 we'll be introducing content feature improvements and two new champions uh with the intent to deliver our final bug fix patch in december of this year after that servers will remain on to support online play offline play is unaffected we'll give advance notice if any of that changes end quote from today riot will unlock all characters in the game bundling most cosmetic items and refunding all money spent on 2x ko on or before august 20th quote any content owned is yours to keep riot said our goal now is to do right by the players who have invested in us so far and want to continue playing 2x ko as well as the rioters who have poured everything into delivering on this dream the rest of this post goes into detail on how we got here what's changing and what's still to come end quote tell you what tim shaver hard hard hard market to launch a multiplayer game in i don't know much about that by the way we're doing a kiln update and lowering the price.

44:03So it's a easy, easy guaranteed money in the bank. Live service people right there. They're ready to jump in and be a part of it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a tough racket. What's a Gary joke, but I have you played that game a lot? No, two X, I'm not a funny guy. And this is the problem, right? Where I think you have to, you have to, it's good though. It does look good. I mean, it's right. Right. It's got the money and they've got the team. Like, you know, not even in the jaded gamer sense. They have a great team at Riot who went off and tried really hard on this. And I think that's where it's interesting to have you on this episode of you've made so many games and worked on so many projects.

44:43I would imagine you know that you can pour your heart and soul into something and then not have it find an audience or not have it hit the highs you thought you were going to hide. The highs you were going to hit in terms of what your projection was. Yeah, I think though, very different companies, very different goals. So that ours is always like, how do you survive without the more long-tail type sales of a game, like Psychonauts, which is like people still play it now, but it's not like it funded the whole company when it launched. So how can you make a sustainable business model off of moderate selling games?

45:14A lot of it is just being cheap. Making games, how do I say them? Economically. Taking calculated risks and not spending a lot of money. Then you can try to do a lot of different things. yeah yeah i mean that's the feels like the problem slash so many of the industry ills we're facing right now is that people want to go and try to capitalize on this online success you know what i mean playstation and their 12 live service titles playstation and horizon hunters gathering right let's chase these things this isn't working that's a saturated market you know matt piscatello over at circana is always talking about these forever games people play like fortnite where you see in minecraft and people see that and go we can make a fortnite or minecraft and it's like, no, you really can't.

45:57You can try and maybe, maybe, maybe you could. Or as the Shry guy, Jason Shryer talks about, right? Finding success in live services. He's called a one-take Shryer. He is called a one-take Shryer. You watch his content. I heard him call himself that. Yeah, well, I call him that when I read his reports. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Out of respect, I call him. Of course not. You have to, otherwise I'll come for you. Shry guy. But no, it is that idea of like, man, it's such a hard market and it's crazy to see even Riot be affected by that. You know what I mean? you talk about a company that has more money than God and is off there and trying to do something different with their products.

46:30Yeah, I mean, I don't know anything, obviously. But when you hear these stories about a company, like, oh, they spent$300 million in this game and they close it on day one. I constantly think about if you could just divide that up into some$5 million spends. You could have so many more turns at bat. Because no matter how much money you spend on the game, it feels like there's this crapshoot about whether it's a hit or not. So if you can make these smaller bets and then one of them will take off and then you can, you know, invest more in that one. Ideally, you know, like. No, no, you're right. The problem is nobody has patience.

47:01This is what I keep coming back to and where we're at right now is that, you know, and tell me if I'm wrong. I feel like, you know, we saw this explosive growth in so much VC and so much money enter the space. Everyone saying, we want you to make Fortnite. And everybody who said that was talking about Fortnite in 2020, 22, 21, 22, whatever. not remembering when Fortnite launched and was an abject failure and nobody cared about it and then they're like, we're just going to put out this free mode for PUBG, which they were open and honest about and they did and it was great, but even that wasn't what Fortnite is now.

47:33I remember playing that and being like, I'm going to use this character because they look enough like a superhero and now I can actually go beat Superman, Batman, you know what I mean, but everybody wants to jump to having the licensing deal and having the gajillion players and ya-ta-da. Rather than, we're making a cool thing and we hope an audience it'll surround it and then if it gets successful we pour more into it and build it up okay like taking that on at its full power and like you're like we can't compete unless we spend 300 million dollars yeah is this really scary thing to try to do and i just how do you shake people from that it's so hard i saw one uh i almost put it into uh games daily the day when i was building it but it was more of an editorial but it was an interesting piece of like how much is riding on according to this one writer i was reading the arc raiders update that they're getting for the frost update the big update that's coming because they were like you know arc raiders is down 93 percent from its all-time peak and current right now and where it's at it's like how do you get you can have that whole thing and have this breakout success like arc raiders and now i'm talking a little bit outside of church and school because i don't have the full text and the full history of where we're at with our graders but you imagine that success hits and they're like more resources let's go let's build it for these people but now how do you get that 93 and in reality 20 back how do you get people to come back to your game when they have moved on and they are excited for different things you had new maps like we're doing the kiln uh pretty soon i'm sorry i mean it's really i love no i mean i want to talk about it like from your perspective like um has kiln done what you were expecting it to do what was that like jumping into doing a multiplayer game that way i mean it was made for game passes or you know pop turn game bus but i was you know i get so wrapped up in the creative promise of games of like can we make a game where like the shape of your pot matters to how you play in the battle and i was just so happy that that worked out and that was fun I get so focused on that, and then I'm like, let's move on to the next game.

49:21I'm done. You're the Toy Story meme of, I don't want to play with you anymore. No.

49:29I'm actually very excited about this game. What are you talking about? No, I know you're excited about it. When this new update comes out, you should come play me. I'm Timo Legend, and I will happily smash your pot. What were we talking about? These big investments, people do forget, or they don't want to look at it this way. Most of these big games started small, like Minecraft. These were like little games at one point, and you can't just win by spending all these. So, start small. Like a vision fortnight. ClawmasterSuperChat says, as someone who really enjoys 2XKO, this is a gut punch. Max Dude talked about this last night, and the point that he made that made me realize the game devs need to go away from making FGs just for fun oh i see that he's it made me realize that game developers need to go away from making fighting games just for fighting gamers but then i even stretch into like and i don't know i am not in the fighting game audience that is blessing uh a thousand percent even him i think if you were to talk to him i tell you he's more of a casual fighting game guy versus like the obsessive fighting game guys but i feel like that is such a niche audience that i don't know how much you can expand and i know it's kind of ridiculous to say that because you could turn and be like mortal combat street fighter these were like seminal moments in video games in people's lives but that was also when there was like more combat uh street fighter 12 games like 12 games coming out a year that people cared about right whereas now it's like september's a bloodbath you can't make a fighting game and put it out there and expect it to go wide with it i don't know but that's some crazy hook that's never been done before like how do you make a shooter now or how do you make a yeah you know anything that's been well explored like that you'll do it though in amnesia fort no we just make up things make up new genres that's what you know one's played a pottery multiplayer brawler before and it stood out and it did it's thing and there's a there's an update coming in a price drop coming so yeah it's a weird conversation we keep having we're like buy double fine games but not this one wait till next week when there's a big price drop oh yeah yeah that's true that's true that we're warning them there's a big price yeah yeah watch this guys we'll talk about here on games daily number three on the roper report dave Batista officially set as Kratos in God of War TV series.

51:41This is how I find out I'm not going to be. It sucks. I think you'd be great, Mimir. Joe Otterson at Variety. Dave Batista is officially taking up the mantle of the God of War. Variety has learned that the actor is now set to lead the Amazon Prime video TV series based on the video game franchise in the role of Kratos. It was originally reported earlier this month that Batista was in talks to play the role after Ryan Hurst, who was announced as Kratos in January, 2026 suffered a torn bicep on set that required surgery and would have delayed production restarting into 2027 it was announced shortly thereafter that amazon and sony which is co-producing were recasting the part prime video has given the god of war show a two-season order with the two season set to shoot back to back filming originally began in vancouver in back in february with batista now locked in as kratos production is expected to resume in the coming weeks all scenes featuring Hurst will now have to be reshot catch that hammer axe torn biceps that sucks man I mean torn can you imagine I can't imagine that but I mean for Ryan Hurst who I loved so much in Sons of Anarchy back in the day and then for him to get this thing and then it's going to be this big deal and then you tear your bicep and they can't wait for you and they bring in Batista who I love Batista great obviously Guardians of the Galaxy WWE yeah is he all green in that it's like a great green yeah they'll cover that up well no that was just that's just for the movie he's in real life he's not he's got a lot of tattoos I'll have to cover up the thing I brought up yesterday on Happy Hour when this kind of came up was the interesting conversation of when Guardians 3 was finishing Batista was like I don't know if I'm coming I don't think I'm ever coming back his draft chat correct me if I'm wrong maybe it was just the fact that he was wearing the vest he's like I don't need to be showing my saggy nipples at whatever, however old he is.

53:31And now he's even older, and he's got to go get yacked out of his mind or pick it back up or somehow to beat Kratos because Kratos is a big guy. We'll see, though. No, I'm sure he's got the nipples for it. Well, the nipples, I'm sure. Great. Yeah, he's just got to have the offstage liquor to come in and... Sorry. If you're joining us late, he doesn't mean liquor like booze. He means Tim Schafer licking my nipple as he did. To keep you performance ready. Exactly. the nipple fluffer. I wasn't going to. I mean, I said it. There it is. There it is. And it's come back. Again, look how skinny my neck is.

54:06Look at my dark hair. So young. We were so young. I remember wearing a Brutal, Brutal Legend shirt. Look at Greg Rice, the paralysis demon in the background. Oh, is that Greg Rice in the background? Yeah, I mean, his head's touching the roof. Yeah, that's Greg Rice. Of course it's Greg Rice. Who else would it be? He's got more hair now. I know he's got an insane amount of hair. You know what I mean? Him and still Mike hanging out now every so often. You know this? What? Without us? Yeah. What? since the House of Prime Rib. Yeah, he got his mashed potatoes and he's like, got what I want. You hate to see a love affair end like that.

54:33Number four on the Roper Report. From Software gives up on today's The Duskbloods network test after two hours of failed logins. I'm sorry, I hadn't read this headline yet. This is Rebecca Valentine, game journalist of the year here on Kind of Funny Games Daily as voted by the audience. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Fantastic person. Over at Kotaku. I don't want to go that far. She's really nice. Well. I officiated her wedding Okay I can tell you So you know some Okay And it's really honestly Just her husband Dirtbag This morning From Software Conducted its first Closed network test For the Duskbloods It's a very unusual Vampire themed PvPVE game Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 Before the end of the year The test was meant To begin pretty early In the morning For those of us In the US For me 5am to be specific I got up Put on some coffee Plopped on the couch With my cats and partner And hopped on a discord call With a third member of our usual Elden Ring Night Rain trio, eager to try out the game.

55:31An hour later, the three of us were playing Night Rain. This was because the test was, I assume, a complete success for From Software, in that the network test did, in fact, test the network, and it learned that the online servers do not currently work. For several hours after the network test was intended to begin, absolutely zero people could get into it. Everyone who tried was just met with a, quote, failed to log in the Duskblood game server, select okay to attempt to log in again error message selecting okay just set the screen to load for a minute or two before delivering a repeat of the same message after almost two hours of this from software seems to have given up posting the following to its x account quote we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience cause to those who are waiting for the first the duskbloods network test due to game server issues we regret to inform you that today's session is now closed.

56:21We will continue to work on improving the servers and will announce future schedules at a later date, end quote. This is actually a confusing message, as there is already another network test scheduled for later tonight and more over the weekend. Does this mean that tonight's test is also off? Will the studio be adding more sessions? There's no reason to expect them to do so. This is not some early access thing we all bought into. The purpose was to test online play with a ton of people at once, and that purpose was, I supposed, served one way or another. They call them tests. Yeah. It's not called success, right?

56:54It's a rocket's blowup. It's meant to happen, right? I guess, man. This is with that thing where so many people have been scratching their heads for so long about, man, Dustblood's Switch 2 exclusive. Okay, that's how we're going to run this. Nintendo not really known for that kind of audience in online play, but let's jump in. Let's see what's going on. I appreciate them testing it. Getting all the games worked out. I definitely appreciate them testing it. It's worked out before you make your play date, clear your calendar, and expect to play the whole evening. I mean, that's what Reb planned today.

57:24Yeah. Well, they'll get it right next time. Sure, of course. But it's easy to get online servers up and running, right? Yeah, I don't know. We're getting, we're changing ours. You can play Brutal Legend every year, October 13th, no servers. Look at that. It still works. Great engineering team. Play with me. October 13th, everybody. Your fifth story on the Roper Report. Microsoft and Discord subpoenaed over GTA 6 gameplay leaks. This is Steve Bonifield over at The Verge. Following several apparent video leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two Interactive has subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord over content that, quote, infringes copyrights, end quote, held for the game, Kotaku reports.

58:03In the subpoenas filed on Thursday, Take-Two says copyrighted material includes audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements, and is looking to identify alleged infringers at issue. The subpoenas give Microsoft and Discord until September 4th to produce the requested information. The leaked clips have been watermarked by a person or group going by CyberLeak, and they have shown what appears to be GTA VI's protagonist, Jason Duvall, one of the two protagonists, doing various activities, including driving, flying an airplane, using a taser, and attacking somebody with a wrench.

58:35In one clip, the player spells leak by shooting holes in the wall. Discord and Microsoft didn't reply to requests for comment. I'm sorry. This is my bad. This is really... This is what you've done on the way out? This is how we got... This is why we really got kicked out of Microsoft is that I was my other gaming identity, CyberLeak. You're CyberLeak. Yeah, yeah, I'm CyberLeak. I write my name. You have so much free time now. You're just like, I'll hack into Rockstar and get into some of this stuff and then shoot the CyberLeak into a wall. This is why I was saying goodbye. No, I had nothing to do with this.

59:05Timothy, how demoralizing are leaks for developers? I don't know. Because in some ways, we're all still talking about GTA 6 right now. The marketing campaign is working. Yeah, it's not working. I don't think there was anything in that leak that made everyone go, oh, I'm not going to play it now. They can be, though, we're so excited about getting a Game Informer cover for Brutal Legend back in the day, because that was like, oh, there's the biggest game in town, and it was like being on the cover of Rolling Stone, which is a magazine you guys... Oh, yeah, yeah. They've read about it in their history books.

59:33Yeah, yeah. And right before it was going, there was a leak about, hey, this new Brutal Legend game has got Jack Black in it, and it was all kind of wrong and it came out of like the Norwegian PR. Like it's always like a, it's like a kind of leak like that. And someone just told somebody everything and it got out there and then we like, well, we don't really, we like to break news. So you might lose the, we convince them to keep us on the cover, but you can lose coverage like that. Sure. The leaks, you can like lose your exclusives with, with press and stuff like that. So that can be really bad.

1:00:00You ever tell the story of when a PR screwed up with you and me? What did they do with you? Oh, I emailed you about being on. I'm working at IGN I'm working at IGN it's a normal last day everything's going fine suddenly boop email pops in from a PR agency you were using or working with for you know games that have gone by and it was a conversation I got roped into many threads down but it was them going back and forth PR and double fine back and forth about who should get the exclusive for this up was it stacking or whatever maybe we shouldn't even say your costume quest no it wasn't costume quest I would have killed you I didn't even know back then but it was I think it was stacking of who gets this and the final one came from PR and they meant to add, I assume Greg Rice, but they went Greg and autofilled Greg at IGN.com.

1:00:44I think it was someone at the time was, yeah. The last name was, well, yeah, yeah, something like that. Somehow I autofilled it wrong. But do they tell you how I experienced this thread? We're talking about where we should go and we're like, yeah, I guess we should definitely give GameSpot this exclusive. And then one of our, I think one of our own producers chimes in, I think we should give it to IGN. They're really good. And I was like, weird, just jumped in this thread and just made a plug for IGN. And I was like, okay. But then I kept going. Like, I had no idea anything weird had happened.

1:01:11But it was you announcing that you're in the trend. And it's important to point out, now Tim's here. We're showing photos licking my nipple. This was well before up at noon. Like, I think I met Tim once, and I had botched the intro, and it haunted me. And then this came through. I was like, yeah, we'll go with GameSpot for the exclusive. And I hemmed and hawed, and then I just hit reply all. I said, I don't know. I'd go with IGN. They're pretty cool. It fooled me. I really thought it was our guy talking. Didn't get the exclusive though. We didn't get the exclusive. But then here we are. Am I on GameSpot right now?

1:01:41No. I'm here. I don't even know if they have video anymore. Are they still? I'm always like, who's around now? I've been in this cave for seven years. I'm like, who? You better get familiar soon. Shout out to the homie Kurt who's hanging out in the chat. What up, Kurt? Which way? Kind of insulting. Tam's not here, but whatever. Kurt works at GameSpot. Tam doesn't support us, I guess, the same way. Kurt, I? Yeah. Indovena? Yeah. You know, the young Vincent Price. Snappy guy? Yeah. Hey, Kirk. Thanks for coming. Yeah. Tim. Hi. You making Custom Quest 3 will be huge news. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I need to know about, where would I go?

1:02:25You'd go to our last story. You've done this show before. The Wii News Channel, where we cover the small news items that you need to know about.

1:02:38Number six, the Wee News. Shroom and Gloom launches September 10th in Steam Early Access. Vampire Survivors Legacy of the Blood Moon launches August 28th. Moomin' Midsummer Madness launches November 4th. Moomin'. Are you familiar with the Moomin'? Yeah. I know those guys who made... My wife grew up... Moomin' you either know it, it's like... It's cute little Swedish... Cow kind of looking people. Swedish finish. Tove Johnson. Anyway, you should check out the Moomin's. Until I married a Quebecois, I'd never heard of Moomin. And now they're everywhere. You go international, they got merch everywhere.

1:03:10Now there's merch here too. But they got multiple games now. You know how cute that thing is? Yeah. I'm a stinky guy, though. And the first game was really good. Good little adventure game. The first guy. Yeah, you do know the meme guy. Now put in Moomin stinky. You're doing that knife. Yeah. This is my guy. I love stinky. When I talked about him one time, somebody then went and took one of my laughing fits and dubbed it over him. I've been laughing in a tree. Anyways, Moomin in Summer Madness launches November 12th on Switch 1 and 2 and PC. According to Bill Bill Kuhn, the 25th anniversary Xbox Series X launches November 27th for$8.99.

1:03:52You don't get those for free anymore, do you? License-free music. This is the kind of funny jingle set to sound like the Wii music. It's legally distinct. We used the Wii music. I wasn't going to name names, but it makes me happy in the same way. Nintendo is going to come for us when they made the Nintendo music thing, so we got off there. Marvel's Wolverine has gone gold. From the RPG site, The Blood of Dawn Walker will only have 30 frames per second and 40 frames per second target modes on PS5 Pro, PS5, and Xbox Series X. And then Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 premieres October 20th. Wee news. That was your small news.

1:04:26We now move back to the Super Chat, see what's up. Barrett has sent one over That was from Twitch Nickonostic says Hi, Psychonauts is so inspiring to me It made me feel seen as a little autistic girl Growing up in a world where I felt like I was other. Thank you so much for making A place where I feel like I belong Secondly, are the Raz and Lily Plushies ever getting restocked? I missed them because I got paid the exact Day the pre-orders closed First of all, thank you for playing Secondly, I don't know, but I'm just going to say yes, because we should. Oh, now, now, now Spaff's freaking out. Get on it.

1:05:04Now Spaff's freaking out. Come on. I got to restock this. All right. Let's get some super chats and get everybody on their way to a games cast where we're making our predictions for what's happening at opening night live. Are you doing? Tell me, Al Farah, if you're doing anything at opening night live so I can predict that and look like a smart guy. Okay. Okay. Thanks. The Portland Kevin Super Chat says, looking forward to meeting both of you as well as any other kind of funny best friends at PAX. hoping to get my Vita signed by Greg and my copy of Brutal Legends signed by Tim. I'm going to PAX.

1:05:31I'm bringing a pen. I'm doing a panel on Friday I haven't told you about because I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you about it, but you'll see and hear about it soon. And then you're doing a whole bunch of stuff at the booth and signing. Yeah, we're signing at the booth. I should do a panel. You should do a panel. I'm lazy. It's a lot of work. I can make one call. You have a panel. That's the kind of power I have with PAX. You want it, you let me know. SyUVTuber says Big fan of Double Fine. Looking forward to Amnesia fortnight and the future wishing you guys the best and we'll support where i can thank you thank you luke's gaming is back or not back another person i guess in this time it's luke's gaming says can we get keep her on ps5 please i'll check it thank you just for you ian says tim make another full throttle game there's a lot of good suggestions here yeah i need to talk to the um the disembodied head of they're chill about that they're cool we know john drake over there you want me to call John Drake?

1:06:21No. Hey, Siri. No. Text John Drake. Oh, boy. Give Tim Schafer the rights to full throttle to comma or else. Send. Thank you. Throttle to or else. There we go. That's how we did it. Boom. Perfect. Wasn't me, John. It's just what the people want. Onimus Prime is doubling back to the 2XKO news and says, I know game dev is hard and expensive, but Riot has such a rich stable of characters and lore and keep putting them in niche genres. Again, they find a lot of success with their one big genre, so they're going out and doing all these different things and trying. I'd rather see them try. It just sucks that when the thing you went, oh, that doesn't seem like that'll have a big audience.

1:07:12Doesn't have a big audience. Like, oh, I didn't have a big audience. We're pulling the plug. You kind of, yeah. Did we not see that coming? What did you expect out of this? Yeah. It would be hard for them to do the thing I was talking about, make a lot of little experiments, because they're such a big company and they make big games. Would they accept a small test? Would someone expect something else? They have to take these big swings. Yeah, yeah. What do I know? I don't know anything, except for how to get on the show. Call Greg. Yeah, see. There was one chat where I was like, this is garbled.

1:07:43I'll figure it out. And then I saw Zach. We have a comedian in the audience who's always funny in the chat, but then he tries to get me, and he got me there. so you go uh bring bring me a sun kissed i was going i thought i was trying to say measure names are hard between kind of funny crew ig and crew in seattle's own ryan davies how often do folks embarrass themselves by meeting an idol like tim schaefer how often do people come up and they're starstruck to you and they can't they can't speak that was lovely it's always really nice people were nice does it happen a lot you watched the first interview yeah and i didn't I didn't even know who you were.

1:08:16Really come out with the nipple out already. And then we're, remember I was dating Christine Steimer and she was a humongous fan of you. And so this is again, way before up at noon, way before I had any relation, but I Jean was doing some events at 21st amendment up in the balcony and you came and she was over there talking to you. So I walked over and I, I joined the conversation, but no one introduced me. So I was just sitting there and then I thought it'd be great. My introduction. I thought I'll make them laugh with a Seinfeld joke. And so you said something. I tried to do the Kramer line of like, why does Radio Shack ask for your phone number when you buy batteries?

1:08:49Instead, I was like, well, why does Radio Shack phone number bow? And you stared at me and I was just like, hello. Hello, Tim. I just felt confused. I usually just assume it's me. Like, I don't know why I'm not understanding this joke. I didn't know at the time, though. I think it went great. Because look at us. Look at us now. Again, we did it. We figured it out. Friends forever. Max says, long live Double Fine. on a more personal note. Great work coming up with the name Humongous Entertainment, Tim. That was a good call. Humongous Entertainment, Tim. That was a good call. Oh, I think I did say that and I was promised stock for that.

1:09:22Never got it. That's right. I come up with good names. Massive Chalice, that was my name too. Really? Yeah. That is a good name. And Kiln. I can't name my own games. Okay. Lee Petty named Broken Age. Find Familiar Game says late birthday tax. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. But just to finish that point, no one's ever embarrassed me by coming up and saying hi. Like fans coming up versus people coming up and just being nice. It's always lovely. It's always nice. So please don't be embarrassed to come up and say hi. People are like, I hate you, dude. I feel so bad, but I really loved your games.

1:09:50Who would be bothered by? Two final Super Chats here, okay? Claw Master says, can we keep this, Tim? Again, Tim, you know the door is always open to you here. We love having you come through. I mean, I don't want to take Tim's job. It seems like he works really hard. I want an easier job. You don't have to take that job. I'm just saying You're back to being independent You know we're both We're two independent San Francisco studios Doing wildly different things That's what I'm saying Come over Hang out Originally the pitch I had given was Hey why doesn't he come over Talk about it on Games Daily And then stay with us to do Opening Night Live Watch Along Reacts next week You said no I gotta go I gotta go I gotta go I gotta go I gotta make games I gotta make these games I would work here There's not enough couches To nap on I don't see Where do you nap Look at the couches all over there There's a chair When you came in there.

1:10:41No, it doesn't matter. I'm saying, but I'm saying like when this stuff gets rolling, you should come in every so often update what's going on. The games call into the show. Something under here to nap on, you know, they're doing the sky. Here you go. They're doing the Skyrim marathon stream. As long as everybody wants, they're going to sleep in the office. You can come break in the bed. It's like a pajama party. Yeah. Oh, gotta be cute. Yeah. I can bed with a little nightcap. Yeah, exactly. A little candles for some reason. And final one goes to D Pittman, who says, love double fine. Shout out to Lee Longline, the hobo king.

1:11:09Everybody. There's another episode of Kind of Funny Games Daily in the books. If you had fun, like, subscribe, share, pick up a membership, but more importantly, go to DoubleFine.com right now where you can find the pack schedule. And of course, you can get to this beautiful Kickstarter page for Amnesia Fortnite 2026 Indie Reboot. Remember, Tim and his crew are independent once again. Watch how the games get made. They need your support. Exactly. Show your sausages. We'll work on that. But Tim, thank you so much for coming by today. Thank you so much for having me. And everyone remember to get their parties.

1:11:38There you go. Kindoffunny.com slash Bertil and never forget everybody. I'm taking this one, but you guys can. Nope, that's the one we got. We can't. That can't go away. Okay. Everybody, of course, we're not going away. You got a games cast coming up next for your opening night live predictions. Put it back, Tim. That's great.
