In short

The show discusses how Xbox/Microsoft layoffs at Bethesda and id Software may delay Elder Scrolls VI and disrupt studio workflows, plus backlash over EA Sports College Football 27 microtransactions in offline modes.

Guests

Andy Cortez (host) and Snow Bike Michael Howard (co-host). No other guests are interviewed in the provided transcript.

Guest backgrounds

Andy Cortez and Snow Bike Michael Howard are hosts of Kinda Funny Games Daily and regularly cover gaming news; the transcript includes their personal gaming experiences (e.g., Andy voice-acting in a game; Mike playing Splatoon/other games), but no formal industry employment details are given.

Key claims

  • Bethesda staff say Xbox layoffs removed 50+ employees, including “key high-performing” people, harming morale and increasing crunch risk, likely delaying Elder Scrolls VI.
  • id Software was also hit hard (reported 92 of 185 full-time employees), despite being between major releases; remaining teams had multiple concepts (John Wick-style Fury, Perfect Dark, multiplayer/co-op Doom).
  • EA College Football 27 locks offline progression tuning behind microtransactions; Steam reviews are mostly negative despite some saying gameplay is improved.

Notable examples

  • Bethesda Game Studio Union post on Xbox Player Voice Feedback; fear of replacing with cheaper contractors and needing crunch.
  • Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online staffing consolidation concerns.
  • College Football 27 Dynasty Mode/Road to Glory XP sliders reduced; players accused of needing “college football points” to progress faster.

0:00Nick Scarpino:It's Kind of Funny's Patreon Pledge Month. Support us at patreon.com slash kind of funny. We really appreciate it. Today's gaming news stories include the Elder Scrolls 6 will suffer because of the Xbox layoffs. It was working on an awesome game idea before being gutted and people are pissed at the new college football game. I can't wait to ask Snowback Mike all about it. We'll have all this and more because this is Kind of Funny Games Daily.

0:33Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Thursday, July 9th, 2026. I am Andy Cortez, and I'm joined by Snow Bike Michael Howard. Good morning, Andy Cortez. I have so much to talk with you about. Yeah, I don't like that. That's better. Andy, good morning. Good morning. How are you doing today? I'm doing great. Your hair looks great. Thank you, man. Your purple jacket, awesome as always. Thank you, man. Got this platoon shirt. I got a New York splat. Splatfest. Man, you said a word for this. I'm so excited. I need my damn. So now it's just single player only. Can we team up? No, you can team up.

1:11But there's no PVP. It's not no PVP. It's like four dudes fighting fish. You're fighting fish. Yeah. It's not a fishing mini game, but you're fighting fish. Yeah. You're like Helldivers vibes. Like, no, no. You're not like trying to extract. Okay. And then taking a risk. I think it's more like, let's do that level with that boss because it'll drop this loot. And we do it on the heart of difficulty. We'll get better loot. And when you're down there, if you're playing solo, you could make, you could send out the call like in Monster Hunter and be like, I need someone here right now. I can't do this by myself.

1:45Or, you know, you go for that day and you're, you're main in the turret guy. You're like doing turrets because that's how you love your play style. But I love getting up close with like the big range, you know, the closer range guns or whatever. Yeah, it's going to be a good time. And then on top of that. It's going to be a good time. Andy, I've seen a lot of voice acting coming out of you. I've seen you're playing replaced with voice acting. I like it. Thank you. Thank you, Mike. Man, I'm so close to beating that game. Good game. I told you about an awesome moment last night. Yeah. Followed by just what a fumble in that game.

2:19And I was like, oh, man, this is why that game got a lot of like six fives and seven. Yeah. Seven fives. The traversal and just like the pathing was a little tough sometimes. I'm just like, you know what? Why do you kill momentum right now? The story was killer. I mean, the story's so killer so far. And then they're just like, let's kill the momentum of this right now. Things are going a little too well. Let's frustrate the player. Okay. And so what about the voice acting? How's it going? We put a little spin on some characters, having a little, putting Andy on it. I just, you know, I like putting voices to characters in games that don't have voices.

2:49Yeah. Oh, okay. I like that. You know? And it's a cool way to just practice. um i that yeah instead of streaming yesterday i spent about four hours doing that and ultimately just deleted everything i was just so mad i was like i was like i hate this i just see it i just hated everything that i did it was like it's 10 p.m i'm mad like fuck this i just deleted everything hey you know what though after like all that work like you still learned something you still got something out of it even if you didn't put it out there you know i learned that like i just can't settle for it's so annoying about four different times i talked to myself i was like Just fucking render it and post it Who gives a shit And I just kept on finding little things wrong And eventually I just went into my OBS recordings folder And I just clicked and dragged To like fucking 30 different files And hit delete Bring me into that room I'll get you in that booth and I'll be your director I was so annoyed You know that we all ride for you And we love seeing your talent You just share the talent with the world Andy When's the last time you texted me I'll text you on Friday though tomorrow.

3:53Because tomorrow, what about Santa Cruz? What about it? Why can't you guys just want to hang out here in San Francisco? He's not coming back to San Francisco. Oh, I thought you said he's coming. Well, he's coming back to San Francisco, but Washi will not return. Washi, what the fuck? He's a one and done traveler now. Okay. Washi, he's been there, done that, seen that. He's bored of San Francisco, even though I think San Francisco, top five city. I would make the argument. What are the top five? Top five city. Name the, name the other four. New York, LA, Miami, San Francisco. Are you just going for like GTA locations?

4:27I'm giving you top five. Top five U.S. cities right there. Top five U.S. cities. Atlanta, Metroplex, Dallas. Could be having a conversation about those, but I'm giving you top five. Okay. So he's not coming back. Okay. That means you and I have to go show him somewhere new. Santa Cruz, Beach Boardwalk. You and I getting some corn dogs, maybe some fried Oreos. Go play putt-putt. We're playing putt-putt. Laser tag. deep fried Oreos. I'll tell you about the last time I played laser tag in Santa Cruz, I cheated. Yeah, that's all you do. I stood in the corner just getting it. They do something weird.

5:02They don't do cheat. It's their fault. They do free-for-all. It's their fault. You had to cheat. Why would they do that? Yeah, you had to cheat. Because I wanted my name on the board. Yeah, I wanted my name on the board for something I'm going to bring up in three months or three years or whatever. Well, you know, hopefully he does change his mind and he can come over here and we can get some Pie Punks. Pie punch is what you want I'll let him know Has he seen all of San Francisco? He doesn't like it He's been there done that He's seen it If you're watching this live Be a part of the show by super chatting on youtube.com Forward slash kind of funny games We couldn't do this without our producers On patreon.com Forward slash kind of funny So thank you to our Again producers Carl Jacobs Omega Buster, Delaney the Psalm Twining and Lax Nomad You're the best of us.

5:52For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It's time for some news. We have five stories today. A baker's dozen. It's good to hear it again, Barrett. Not that today's great news. No, it's not. It felt really inappropriate. We have one small positive news story. Really? We have one small positive news story at the end of the show. All right. Going to Santa Cruz? We'll go to the boardwalk. Story number one. This comes from Tom Phillips at IGN. The Elder Scrolls 6 will suffer because of Xbox layoffs, Bethesda staff say. Speaking on condition of anonymity to protect their careers, current and former staff have told me that job losses across Bethesda Game Studios locations have removed more than 50 employees, including, quote, key high-performing people in the trenches, end quote, building the company's long-awaited Skyrim successor.

6:56This, in turn, they say, has shattered morale, raised the risk of future development crunch, and increased the likelihood that the game's already far-off completion date will be delayed. Quote, their loss will have a substantial and cascading effect on the game and morale of this studio, One Bethesda staff member told IGN. It's a mix of every discipline, programmers, artists, and designers, said another. Quote, one person who's been at the company since Morrowind was cut. End quote. A long time ago. On social media, the Bethesda Game Studio Union has highlighted a post on the Xbox Player Voice Feedback platform, which seeks to raise wider awareness of the job losses and demonstrate to Microsoft that fans are unhappy with the scale of layoffs now associated with their hobby.

7:44With 2 ,588 upvotes, it is now in the top 20 Xbox user suggestions on the site, which Microsoft draws from to enact fan feedback on its console platform. Quote, there is a fear that we are going to be replaced by cheaper contracted labor, or we will hire folks to replace them that will need to be onboarded because our tools are proprietary. Other devs aren't going to know how they work, resulting in more delays, and will need a crunch to make up the time, one Bethesda developer told IGN. Quote, we've all been very excited and hype for the Elder Scrolls 6, and this has had a crushing effect on morale, said another staff member.

8:22We were already running a tight ship and are worried about this delaying the game, though a final release date was not yet chosen as far as we know, end quote. This week, it was reported that Elder Scrolls 6 is still at least two years away from launch, despite the fact it was originally announced some eight years ago. Bethesda released Starfield in the meantime, of course, but the long wait for a Skyrim follow-up has been a frustrating one for fans, with the franchise already skipping one full console generation in terms of mainline releases. Quote, it seems like the company wants to make up the loss in talent without sourcers, one staff member said, pointing to a similar situation in the studio's decimated QA department, where work formerly undertaken by in-house employees has now been taken up by overseas staff at development outsourcing firm Keywords.

9:10Quote, I've heard from my colleagues that they are already being asked to train new contractors. I have no idea how they'll continue updating Fallout 76 without hiring an external studio. End quote. One staff member said they had been told by the colleagues from the Elder Scrolls online Studios, ZeniMax Online Studios, ZOS in parentheses, will now fill in gaps on the Elder Scrolls 6's development team. Though it's unclear how this will be managed when publicly available layoff notices show that ZOS itself has been massively downsized, with 212 staff laid off. Other teams in the ZeniMax family have also been gutted.

9:47Game developer has reported that 136 of 185 full-time employees were laid off from id software outside bethesda bloomberg's jason schreier has said that obsidian entertainment has laid off a quarter of its staff it has now been put to work on a new fallout game which bethesda is said to be helping out with quote i think the specter of layoffs is something we will face in perpetuity until we unionize one bethesda staff member said another revealed that survivors were told that they are now safe from Sharma's further 1 ,600 cuts this year, though they're still feeling a deep concern that these won't be the end of Xbox's plans to downsize in the future.

10:28Quote, the survivors were told they're safe from, and I'm doing the air quotes on that one, on the word survivors. The survivors were told they're safe from those next 1 ,600, but it's not entirely reassuring, a laid off staff member concluded. Even if that's true, who's to say there's not another 1 ,600 next year after that? it's had the chilling effect of realizing you don't get to retire off your work at xbox your time ends when you quit or are laid off that's it oh that's a stinging end right there fuck that is a big rundown andy and absolutely heartbreaking to hear now that the dust is settling we kind of start seeing the numbers and the reality of what these layoffs look like for a lot of your favorite developers and studios around the globe, right?

11:15You saw the gigantic number, the goal at the end of the year of how many employees will be laid off, which was astonishing. It was way too many. But now to be like, hey, we're going to take a deep dive into all these studios and really talk about how many people got laid off from id Softworks and what that reality is going to really look like is crazy, Andy. Of course, it's going to disrupt workflow. Of course, things are now going to get delayed. Now we have to restart everything as we look at each other and go is barrett still around is greg still here like where are the people that i used to work with and what is our new workflow yeah um first i'll shout out to tom phillips for that uh amazing write-up and you know getting information from in the trenches from the people there from the people that have just been dismissed and yeah dude i there's just not a whole lot of there's this whole not a whole lot of logic there You cut the jobs because it makes the number look better and gives you better financial prospects.

12:16And then you think, or maybe you don't think about how this is going to affect the future. You don't just replace people and they just sit in. This isn't severance where you sit in suddenly like you are in I know exactly what to do mode. you are working with maybe an engine that you know id tech is fucking phenomenal and i think one of the greatest things that is under the xbox umbrella and if so many of those senior engineers have been laid off you don't just know how things work it it takes time to kind of get acclimated to everything and if you are if there are no people there to onboard you it's like damn dude you're going to make this more of a headache for yourself and i wouldn't be surprised if we saw some more people coming back not a big number or anything but i wouldn't be surprised if like in the past we've seen other studios go shit we needed we needed greg and barrett to to tell us how this damn engine works we we're trying to get these three new outsourced employees to to you know upload things and to get our systems working and we they just don't know the workflow of it um and yeah it's just it's another story that you have it's another moment for executives and higher-ups to not learn lessons from other studios that have messed up in the past you have there are so many studios out there with so many tenured employees that all say the same thing and they're not just speaking from a place of like i want to protect employees they're speaking from experience and saying when you have a team that knows what the heck to do things get developed faster and when you have in you know when you have people that have been there for 5, 10, 15 plus years, things are more efficient.

14:25Systems, the workflow is better. Everything is just, there's a rhythm there. When you are laying off these tenured employees with experience, and believe me, I love the idea of bringing in a new hire. I want new talent to keep on joining the industry, but it's cheaper labor. they are you know the you know the junior level artists junior level programmers whatever you're bringing in that newer talent they don't know how things work and you don't just you have to look at is what we're worth cutting pay wise they're worth the amount of time it's going to take to get this new thing started and i just don't know if these lessons will ever be learned because they look at the short-term gain of those layoffs and say, bam, that's worth it.

15:18Cut me 20%. That equals out to a thousand employees. Go figure it out. Yeah. Go make the cut. We don't think about six months down the road when now Andy has hired a bunch of new hires and they're not up to speed. And it takes so long to get that time. It's just insane, man. I, I, it just really doesn't feel like any of these lessons will ever be learned because that dollar amount is really the, only thing that matters and it just it just sucks so bad it's so deflating to see the amount of talent and like i've mentioned before it's got to be extra deflating to be somebody who wants to join the industry and seeing the talent that's being laid off when i was trying to get into the industry you know over a decade ago it was terrifying for me to look at oh shit that person that person's out of a job?

16:12Shit, look at their portfolio. My portfolio's nothing like that. Like, I can't believe... And then you're looking at the talent being laid off from people at id. It's like, holy shit, you were one of the principal concept artists. You were one of the... You designed and ZBrush 3D modeled, sculpted, all of, like, the main models in the... It's just... It's such a fucking bummer, man. And I don't really know... Well, I do know, and I don't think that this will lead to what we hope it goes to, because I just don't know if, I don't think id can operate the same way. And many people at id right now and former people at id have said the same thing.

16:55How the hell is this studio going to make another Doom game and operate the way they were when they are less than half the size? And we're going to dive in a little bit more into id on the next story. So I kind of want to hold that, but that is a huge number being laid off from that team in particular. That is over half of the staff. What are they going to do next is right. But I mean, let's go back up to the top here. Elder Scrolls six, right? Cutting the staff, high performing members of the teams. Now, now you look around and go, okay, we're going to really slow down to a grind. If you thought that eight years from announcement was a long time, you might want to add a lot longer onto this.

17:35they're expecting delays we don't even have a date yet we're not expecting delays because we're still thinking it's a pipe dream of a game coming out in maybe two years most likely more than that yeah i mean i i still it still boggles my mind that that game is like still being developed and worked on like i i kind of you forget about it it's easy to forget reminds you of metroid prime four like that was my first i think that was my first e3 watching with kind of funny like being an employee of the company and then game disappears forever finally comes out uh last year and elder scrolls six is that was 2018 that it was announced and and we're still here and granted starfield gets in the way of that of course and monday morning quarterback you go hey starfield's not going to be what you thought it was because people want the name people know elder scrolls they know that name you should have just allocated resources to that and we know you wanted to work on this the space game that was like one of your dreams but ah it's it's such a bummer man the losses will go into cascading effects on the game and morale of the studio of course we just talked about survivors will not be affected by Sharma's second half of layoffs.

18:56That's not what I want to hear when I walk into work the next day after half of my fellow coworkers have been laid off and I'm now labeled as a survivor. And hey, don't worry. You're probably safe. Probably. Yeah, exactly. How am I supposed to know that every single day? Now I have a clock above me. That's like my timer could run out. The end quote of you don't retire from work at Xbox. your time ends when you quit or are laid off that's it yeah like bone chilling you you worked so hard in your life to make this a career there under no circumstance should being a game developer feel like you are going from a part-time job to another part-time job to now i'm at best buy now I'm going to like you got into this industry to make a career and the idea that you can't even, you know, retire from a company that you have sacrificed so much for the amount of missed birthdays that these employees have experienced the amount of, of, you know, missed family time.

20:05And you're either getting cut or we're going to move you to another project that maybe you're not super stoked about. and if you're not soaked about that good luck because like go good luck finding a job somewhere else because you're you're going to be stuck here if we do keep you around it's just it's yeah it's an absolute bummer um zenimax online studios them talking about how the heck is we're going to continue on that game with the downsizing there too with uh with uh fallout 76 and elder scrolls online and elder scrolls if you enjoyed elder scrolls online you liked that expansion every single year you're probably not getting that moving forward right like that expansion and large dlc pack might become longer wait for that from now on it's interesting we now start to see xbox kind of bring in xenomax and bethesda into the fold we saw with phil it's like hey we're going to let them operate they're going to do their thing independently and then of course we saw 15 layers of different answers to get to the top now hey we're going to cut 3200 jobs to 3600 jobs we're bringing them into the fold is their plan here just to start saying hey you two are supporting each other fallout 76 and elder scrolls online figure out how to work together in tandem because there's not enough employees yeah to get around making these games i mean yeah the you know the write-up mentions the former or was it former current employee mentioning we don't know how that work continues unless they hire an external studio there's just not enough power there's not enough people there to make the thing anymore and so for for a game that's a live service game you need you need bodies there you need people making shit uh and if those people aren't there then you're going to hire outside contract work and things will likely be made uh you know less efficiently because people are having to learn tools and and again i i brought up yesterday but don't you dare try to work remotely yeah don't work remotely but we will hire out we will outsource to other countries but don't you fucking try to work from home anymore you know you have to come it's just like ah fucking it's so frustrating well let's talk a little bit about the future of those games really fast okay are we seeing the end of these live service games let's start with fallout 76 and elder scrolls online it's hard to imagine them slowing down but i would say those girls online has been out for a long, long time.

22:33Are they starting to see the maybe decline in revenue and player base that it's now having that conversation of, hey, it's time to start slowing these down, maybe start to sunset some of these projects. We saw it with ZeniMax online of course. Matt left when we saw the head honcho lead and then of course the project Blackboard get canceled, right? So it's like, are we seeing the end of some of these titles and maybe that's why we're really consolidating these studios to get smaller and smaller? I mean, I would not be surprised if by next year's Animax Online Studios is helping make Fallout. Helping, you know, working on Elder Scrolls 6.

23:16Like, I don't know if the return is there. I don't really know their monetization model. I know when they put out a new expansion. I don't know if players pay for that. I don't know what the average user, you know, the average player count is or whatever. I can't imagine that that is making enough money to make them say, yeah, it's worth having all these employees there. Or it's worth making another expansion. What if we just have them work on something else to try to get them to make that project go through quicker or whatever? Yeah, you and I in the MMO space have had this conversation a bunch, right?

23:51Especially with Destiny Now and, of course, Bungie, right? Of, like, there is an end to the timeline on these games eventually, right? Like the live service is awesome and great. It creates a great community, awesome memories for many years. But eventually it does slow down on the business side of things where then you're going to have to make the hard decision of it's time to start ramping this down, slowing it down, and then finally ending it. Right. And it's hard to imagine that because it's a sad thing. It sucks. But I do, I would love to know the true numbers of fallout 76 and the elder scrolls online from a business perspective to go, this is worth me keeping x amount of employees x amount of studios and dev time to create this when it's probably time to slow that down we'll move on to story number two and again take this with a grain of salt but on steam db for active player count on fallout 76 7700 not bad we don't know what they're you know we don't know what the player base is on xbox but i would that's not bad for steam uh fallout 76 i i believe fallout 76 and other scrolls online still both have a solid audience it of course always comes down to is that audience making money right like are you buying are you monetizing the revenue driving that and so yeah i think they still have pretty solid user base let me tell you about other scrolls online late on me 12 000 players right now so So then we go back to the drawing board.

25:20Instead of cutting a bunch of staff, how do we continue to maintain that player base? How do you monetize that player base? How do you keep them incentivized to keep playing, having fun with awesome experiences that you create, and then sell them on that? Story number two. It was working on a John Wick style game, a perfect dark game, and multiplayer doom. This comes from Dean Takahashi at GamesBeat. The team and id software seem safe from the Xbox layoffs as the studio hadn't been notified that it was up for closure or sale, but about half of the Microsoft-owned game studio was laid off on Monday as Xbox announced 3 ,200 current and pending layoffs.

26:01At least 92 of 185 full-time employees or so were cut for more than 50 % of the staff, according to what I've heard. There are conflicting numbers on social media, and there were some others associated with id that were also cut. But that came as a surprise to many. Considering the pioneering studio had one of the biggest properties in the Xbox hit portfolio in the reinvigorated Doom franchise. Those former employees say the travesty of the Xbox layoffs done in a rush are evident in who was chosen when the axe came. Quote, it's a bloodbath. I was blindsided by it. The scale of it, said one former employee.

26:40Id Software was vulnerable in part because it was between major games. Just yesterday, it had shipped Revelations, a downloadable content DLC expansion pack for Doom The Dark Ages. The cuts came as its team was toying with different game ideas, including a John Wick-style original game called Fury, a new game in the Perfect Dark franchise, and a multiplayer-slash-co-op version of Doom. It's not clear which game, if any, the remaining team can do. The Richardson, Texas-based studio near Dallas was not pegged for either closure or sale like five other game studios, But had it known the cuts would be so deep, it probably would have opted to be sold to another party.

27:17That's what I've heard from employees who were laid off on Monday. Marty Stratton's studio head got choked up as he told his staff about the layoffs over a team's call that meeting. In a call that lasted a few minutes, he said it wasn't a reflection of their skills or impact of the studio. The cuts show how ill-considered the overall Xbox strategy portrayed the studio as it made single-player games for its long-standing fans. As noted, Xbox Game Pass was supposed to hit about 77 million subscribers by now, but the number stands at 30 million and it's falling. One former studio head said it was confusing in terms of goals that Microsoft wanted.

27:51Was it subscribers for Xbox Game Pass? High engagement time on Game Pass? Revenues and profits from standalone copies sold? Technology demos for the platform? id software is a part of bethesda whose pat whose parent firm xenomax was bought by microsoft in 2021 for 7.5 billion doom the dark age has got a metacritic aggregate score of 83 out of 100 not bad but the problem was that it was played by millions of fans the problem with it was that it was played by millions of fans but many played it for free on game pass doom was like a counter to other PlayStation games like God of War or The Last of Us.

28:29But Doom the Dark Ages standalone game sales, which would have generated more revenues and profits, were weak. That made it a target. If id Software knew that the goal was revenues and profits, it may have opted for a service or multiplayer modes instead. The focus on single-player gaming was a choice the studio made to keep its headcount low, and it is remarkable that a studio like id with AAA cred going back decades was so small. That was an advantage when it came to communication. On the The downside, id Software took four years to make a game, longer than other teams, and some said that they had to work on crunch time on a regular basis.

29:03Hugo Martin, game director, often told devs he wanted them to be believers with passion and commitment to making great games. As for the codename Fury, it was a project the game director and studio co-director Hugo Martin promised in the past as an original intellectual property. It had elements of sci-fi, noir, and Louisiana and Chicago gangsters. It had a modern cyberpunk-like feel. It had a concept called Gun Fu, which combined gunplay with martial arts. The game was supposed to feel a lot like a John Wick movie, but it was not formally greenlit for production. It was a chance to go beyond Doom, but moving away from core franchises is not exactly what Microsoft wants to do.

29:40The team was also considering doing a game based on Perfect Dark, the franchise that hasn't had a new edition since Perfect Dark Zero in 2005, on the Xbox 360 game console. The studio got wind of the idea one day when someone made a presentation in a glass office. Concept art was in the works. Still, another candidate was a Western-style robot game with a focus on survival, dubbed Ironwood. It was akin to the world of Westworld. And as far as Doom goes, there were proposals to do multiplayer, co-op, and more DLC. One of the ideas was to bring back old guns from previous games like Doom Eternal and Doom 2016.

30:17Fortunately, there were a lot of veterans to do such work, as id Software largely escaped previous Microsoft layoffs, but perhaps not anymore. Of all those ideas, most were considered to be cross-platform games running on current generation hardware, but something like Fury might also take so long that it would have to be targeted for Project Helix, Microsoft's upcoming game console. Dean's article, Inside a Studio Layoff, Big Questions for Microsoft Intentions for id Software, goes on, is great, and it is required reading. Check it out on GamesBeat. That's a little note from Greg Miller.

30:54This continues the sadness, Mike. I mean, this is the big head scratch. This is the big frustration one right here. Yeah, I mean, all of this sucks. All of it, the reality, as I brought up on the last one, as the dust settles and we hear from all these developers and studios of who's getting gutted and what's that look like when we talk about id and what Bethesda and id brought to Xbox in particular and Xbox Game Pass and just being part of that development team, the portfolio, this sucks. This is one of those that's the head scratcher is when we came out of, hey, we're going to have the big reset and you broke down every big title, big IP name, Doom and id were probably near the top of the list of you probably protect them, you probably keep them and you go off of those IPs and franchises that they have and then be like, oh, yeah, well, we cut 50 % of the staff from that team.

31:46Yeah, I'm sure that team raised their hand and was like, actually, just sell us. We'll figure it out on our own because this sucks. Yeah, the, you know, it's really important to kind of see where they're coming from when there clearly wasn't a whole lot of direction with what was being asked of them. and that leads bad management like that leads to miscommunication leads to bad direction and i love doom the dark ages with all of my heart i i gave it a nine i think that game is fucking phenomenal it's so fun and i can't wait to play the dlc because apparently it's even better and it's like holy shit this is what they're being rewarded with but reading that article from uh Dean Takahashi, which is a great write-up, talking about, we didn't know what Microsoft and Xbox wanted from us.

32:44Did they want retention? Did they want something to bring in constant revenue or whatever? We stuck to making the single-player game because that's what we kick ass with. But we could have done other things had we been told, we want Game Pass numbers, id, or we want sales, id. and I it does bum me out reading that there were some people going damn we would have rather been sold because so would have I like I think that if it were I think if Game Pass was not just encouraging people to not buy these games and it's the best deal in gaming or whatever they mentioned 3 million players played you know Doom the Dark Ages on Game Pass and there's just so much lost sales there there's so much possibility for other sales elsewhere and they weren't able to get that and that is like such a massive loss for a studio that is so insanely talented yeah i'd like to know who that one former studio head is is that directly from id or is that from the microsoft umbrella right because of course all of these uh studio heads I'm sure I've gotten a lot of different goals and ideas of like, Hey, this is what Xbox is looking from you from sales to player counts to engagement as you brought up.

Read the full transcript

34:09But like when you talk about doom and id, I feel like the vision was achieved, right? We're going to bring back doom in a big way. We're going to make an epic trilogy that fans are going to love. And it feels like id achieved that goal. There's no way that that wasn't the goal that killed. That was the goal. They killed that. And so I'd love to know, like, is that former Stewie head from it was really the goal to possibly go make live service games? Because if it was, hey, we made single player games to keep the head count low. We achieved those goals. They did everything they needed to. I don't know what you do now with half of that studio.

34:47Of course, it is the easy one. If you're the top dog looking down going, well, they just finished their project. They're years from the next one. Start cutting that studio. That's the easy point and click on that. do they team up now with machine games and co-develop games when we now start to make the jump of wolfenstein doom wolfenstein doom wolfenstein doom back and forth yeah yeah according to alinea analytics um based on you know they do a lot of like good analytics based on wish lists and you know because a lot of official sales don't really come out um last year they estimated that doom had sold around a million gotta assume that number has risen a little bit but still still such a tragedy because it's it's such a freaking amazing video game and it just sucks that there's such a big loss of talent and the future ideas that they had that could have been what could have been yeah the idea of like a john wick gung fu game i mean they just That would have been epic.

35:55They just have so much sauce, man. They have so much great vision in what they do and technical know-how. And, you know, the recipes are being lost. Yeah, they're keeping that studio for the, of course, software, the talent that remains, but the IP. They're not letting that go. The IP is too valuable. They will not let that go out of their possession there. So we'll see what happens with that. When is the next Doom game now? What is that team allowed to make? What are they going to be focusing on? It's going to be a long time when you look at that number change. Yeah, I mean, we'll see. I just don't even know, you know, based on what other people just mentioned, how the hell can they operate and continue to work at that number now with so much key talent gone?

36:47What does a new Doom game even look like at less than half the size? You got to start thinking they'll be merging a lot of these teams together and just co-developing groups. Or like you said, they're going to hire a bunch of contractors and the work is going to get slower as they onboard new employees and try to restart all of this. I'll tell you what I'd like to restart. I'd like to restart the show, Mike. Let me tell you, I have a fun one for you next story. We're going to make it fun. Okay. Okay. 40:33So when we scale down these studios and sell them along with these IPs, it looks like it's cheaper to buy them. But know what you're getting. You know what you're getting, Doom and Quake. They'll prioritize it after the layoffs. We have to lay everyone off. Then we go, actually, this is a big deal to me. Figure it out. I'll make this. I love the Doom Slayer. The 15 of you left. I love Doom Slayer. Go make it. Jonathan Dennerson says, Doom Eternal sold 6 million copies. Doom The Dark Ages has 3 million players total, including Game Pass players. That was as of last year. That was in June of 2025.

41:08So that number's likely gone up since then. But thank you for the$5 super chat, Jonathan. It was a killer franchise, a solid title for Xbox. It was a big deal. Awesome. Nick Geller with a$5 super chat says, Not sure if it's planned, but talk about College Football 27's microtransactions. love the content thank you nick we will be getting into that um chaos killer with five with another five dollars he says i've got a genius idea i want to take i want to make bigger games faster so i will fire the devs on a proprietary engine watch the game suffer then lay off again no that won't happen and then the people who are still there have to use a different engine though yeah michelangelo with a ten dollars who i thank you for your support says launching an expensive console with heavy hitters, Playground Coalition, it already releasing slash released, and Obsidian, but there's a game so far out.

42:02Yikes. Yeah. Yeah. Big yikes all around. I'll tell you what else is a big yikes. Microtransaction. Madness. Microtransaction. Madness. Microtransaction. Mishaps. Oh, that was the word you wanted me to say. It's a microtransaction mishap, Andy. I use madness. My bad. No worries. You nailed it, though. But we're going to get into some microtransactions, and we're going to talk about a mistake that was made. Okay. Before the show started, by the way, Chad, Mike was like, oh, I can't wait to talk to you about it. We're going to talk about it on the show, Andy. I want, like, a piano. Give me, like, a melody, like a do-do-do.

42:43I was like, Mike, I don't have a piano. We're not set up for that. Story number three. $70 EA Sports College Football 27 locks single-player content behind microtransactions and earns, quote, mostly negative rating on Steam within 24 hours of release. This comes from Lewis Parker at Kotaku. EA Sports College Football 27, the latest entry in EA's college football franchise. And the first game of the series to be available on PC has been out for less than 24 hours, and it's already earned itself a mostly negative score on Steam with only 33 % of its reviews being positive. However, according to both fans and reviewers, the game itself is actually pretty great and a marked improvement over the previous entry in the franchise EA Sports College Football 26.

43:35So why is it getting dragged on Steam? Well, in classic EA fashion, the publisher has removed features that were available in the previous game's offline modes and replace them with microtransactions for EA Sports College Football 27. According to reviewers on Steam, two of the EA Sports College Football's single-player offline modes, Dynasty Mode, and Road to Glory no longer allow players to adjust the percentage of XP they would earn in the game. The previous entry in the franchise featured fast and faster sliders in these modes that allowed players to customize the amount of XP they'd earn in offline modes.

44:09But now they're expected to drop cash on college football points. Hell yeah, you need those CP points. Come on, college football points. Microtransactions for the same result. Worse still, reviewers on Steam note that while the amount of XP you earn in these modes has risen, the amount required to level up has also risen. Other reviewers have also stated that there appears to be a cap on the amount of XP you can earn without spending cash too. And as Insider Gaming notes, Content creators who were given early access to the game have also stated that these macro transactions were not available in the preview builds they were granted access to.

44:50And some have accused EA of keeping the macro transactions a secret before launch in a bid to garner more favorable reviews. While EA has yet to officially respond to the controversy, fans and content creators are trying to get the hashtag. Hashtag CFB. Play, don't pay. Don't pay. Don't pay. Just play. Play, don't pay. Play, don't pay. CFB play don't pay training online in an attempt to warn other players against purchasing the game when we get movements like this we got we got to have like a marketing person like on that you know like come on what are we doing I'd love to say shout out to EA for this this is the smartest time to do this like there's a lot of big there's a lot of big bad news out there and they were like should we do fuck it let's fucking do it because we weren't gonna do it but now is the best time to drop let's slide in there let's fuck it hey everybody else is burning the goodwill from gamers let's do it too and we look at andrew uh head of ceo or ceo of andrew wilson i believe andrew ea uh and mr andrew ea and he's like man i made you know 38 million of a bonus last year not my pay just a bonus um and but worry about xbox and playstation guys don't talk to what about your discs don't you care about discs the fact that you cannot speed up just progression in an offline mode is fucking hysterical mike tell me about the microtransaction mishap it's andy it's a microtransaction mishap we got on our hands here of course we go to ea and we talk about sports And we know that sports games have had a lot of microtransactions in the past.

46:36We've dabbled in Madden Ultimate Team and trading card games. We've dabbled in NBA 2K My Players. Love that VC. Love that virtual currency. You've got to have that VC. Yeah. Now we have college football points. EA Sports. College football has decided, you know, on top of the Ultimate Team that they already implemented in the first year, they were going to dive into a new microtransaction route that would deal with, of course, Road to Glory and Dynasty mode, famously offline single-player modes most of the time. So the issue that is at hand is that it has taken away something from the gamers and replaced it with a microtransaction.

47:14And so the catch is, is what's going on right now is previous years had a slider when you would start up Dynasty and or Road to Glory that would allow you to affect the XP your player would earn or your coach would earn over each game, season, year that you played, allowing your rating to go up. It's an approachability setting. It's a difficulty setting. It's an offline game mode allowed for you just to come in after your 9-5, zone out for two hours, upgrade your character and your player, and move on, right? And so they thought it would be a good idea to say, hey, we know there's a normal XP earned slash progression that you have to hit right on the graph.

47:52that goes up and up, and then, like, the progression is here, right, to hit those points. And they said, you know what? We're going to make a fun slider last year. It's going to be normal, harder, and then, of course, easier, right, to make it go however you want it. Maybe you want it to be harder. Maybe you want it to just be the normal route. Or maybe you're like, hey. Maybe you're like, I just had a kid. I play once a week. Yes. You know? My coach isn't going to play 72 seasons. I want him to hit max rank by 12 to 20 seasons. Yeah. And so what happened this year was is they took away half the slider.

48:23They've kept the slider at normal and harder to earn XP. But if you'd like to go on the easier side of things, they've taken that slider away in replacing it with microtransactions. So what will happen now is you boot up into dynasty as your coach. You can now adjust all of your attributes, similar to all of the other NBA 2K games that you're thinking of. You can adjust your coaching attributes and then they'll say, hey, if you want to be level 42 now instead of level 12, or if you want to be max level 100, that's going to cost you$99 right now to fast pass this whole system. Or you can be on your player in Road to Glory.

49:04You can come out, instead of being at 52, you can be at 86 for$50. And you're going, what do you mean, Mike? This isn't a PVP. What do you mean 99? Yeah, so your coach level can go up to 100. And to get to 100, we have some math here coming from Benny Wyatt, Hail Mary Media. He said you would have to win the national championship every single year for the next 150 years to max out your coach on college football 27 for free. Or you could just pay$99.99 to EA. I own this game, and I'm not touching it until it gets fixed. Dynasty mode is a single-player mode that you don't play against anyone else.

49:45Wait, how much is it to unlock the slider? No, no. The slider's there. They took the second half off. So the slider's here, right? Last year, it would go normal to, hey, making it harder to earn XP, plus making it easier to earn XP. They took that off. They just hid that part. Right, but, like, how much to unlock that thing? No, that thing's gone. The slider's still there, but we're not talking about that. It's gone. Oh, shit. So there is no, hey, I want to just have a fun franchise where I earn a bunch of XP faster over time like it was in previous years. They took that half gone. That's fucking insane.

50:23It's fucking insane because this is a, it's not pay to win like NBA 2K, which is the goal. You're not playing online against other people. You're playing at home by yourself to enjoy yourself to escape the horrors of the world. I just want, I just fucking want Monmouth College with my coach there to try to get to the national championship. I didn't know there was a Star Wars team. That's why it's a microtransaction mishap because EA didn't think this through. Nobody wanted this. Nobody in their right mind is paying for this because the whole goal of the game is to get better over time playing the CPU and earning XP because I'm not playing against Andy who's throttling me every single day in the park like NBA 2K.

51:07And so why are they making charges like OnlyFans? They wanted to find a new way. And like EA Sports, here's your opportunity right now. You need to come out today and say the following. Hey, everybody, we had a microtransaction mishap. Okay. We wanted to try something new in EA Sports. And specifically, we wanted to start with EA College Football. We heard the feedback. You don't like this. We're going to apologize. We're going to put the slider back in. and we're going to go back to the drawing board and figure something else out. That's all you're going to do. Put the slider back in the game.

51:40Stop this right now. Because the game is good at its core. It is year three of college football. We are trying to make this an annual title. We need to make sure the goodwill of players are there all the time. And so having small, dumb things like this is stepping on a rake that you don't need. It wasn't going to make you that much money at the end of the day. People weren't going to engage with it anyways. Because this is simply one of those things of like, at the end of the day, you don't have to buy this. You never have to do this. But the flip side is like, hey, last year you gave them a fun easy option to dive a little bit deeper into these game modes and just kind of get lost and leave the existential dread of reality and just play your game and enjoy.

52:21And then maybe they buy some ultimate team coins. Maybe they buy Madden. Like, that's what we're supposed to build here. Not, hey, let's just milk our consumers for as much money as possible, right? And that's where we're at. You know what I do? If I'm EA. Tell me. I treat this like a lot of studios treat situations whenever they act like they accidentally left in AI assets. And I just go, shit, man. We thought we took that out. We didn't know we left it in. Mike, the intern, was testing something. We were supposed to. Our bad. That was in there to test stuff. We forgot. Today is the launch day.

53:03you need to do that now if you're EA sport because what they're hoping for is people just ignore this and forget about it because then year two we're going to bring it back like if you don't stop this now which is what you're seeing year three they're going to be like if you want to play as Alabama you pay more from content creators around the globe and I will I will implore you and tell you hey if you like sports games if you like EA sports college football you probably know a bunch of these content creators but there's a guy named Bordeaux out there who does really fun college football content.

53:36He does like the, my player, I play in Hawaii, and I raise up the ranks. Great content creator. Has been ride or die for EA, promoting the hell out of these games, right? Doing a great job on social media. He was the one who created the hashtag CFP, CFB, play don't pay. To be like, yo, this is fucked up. That I went out to this event, you hid this from us, I promoted this game, pumped up about this game, all of us get jazzed up, and then day one you hit us with this just super insane microtransaction strategy. Man, I'm glad I didn't pick this up on it. And they're like, absolutely fucking not.

54:09And so, yeah, this is the day, with launch day, you come out and apologize and you take one on the chin. Because you've got to be swung. Dude, this is so bad. It's a microtransaction mishap. That's all it is. Hey, we fucked up. We tried something. It didn't work. We hear you. We're taking it out. Because we're trying to get to the money, Andy. And the money is, hey, EA Sports FC soccer. I'm trying to make that into NBA 2K, the neighborhood. And so you go to the soccer field. You go to the fields. And there's about eight soccer fields. It's like the block. They're playing Volta mode. They're playing 4v4, 3v3 indoor soccer.

54:44And you create your player. And then we microtransaction you there to buy your player from 65 FedEx outfits. This time they wear purple and orange instead of all brown. Because I'm ripping off NBA 2K. They wear your FedEx uniform at 65 overall. You buying Nike shoes for your character? Oh, hell yeah. Pumas, Nike, I got everything. You want to buy an Erling Holland jersey? That's going to be$9. So, like, you're getting to the money somewhere else. Speaking of Erling Holland, I saw him in a video recently of someone doing a tour in his house. And they're like, do you play video games? He's like, oh, yeah, my favorite video.

55:17I love Assassin's Creed. I love Call of Duty. Oh, yeah, he's great. And he was like, I want Xbox to sponsor me. I just want to be like, I don't know. Things are bad right now. Like, I don't think. I don't know if they got money like that right now, early. They will for that. They will for that. Yeah. 9000 says Mike is crazy for thinking this will happen. I'm going to make a promise to you. And the next five years, EA sports FC will have that exact mode that I just described to you. And they will monetize your player. Just like NBA 2k. It is not a, a guess. This is, this is the prophecy. This is reality that they will do this world of shell.

55:54You will get this. You will get this in the ES Sports FC, and they will figure out how to make a fun minigame mode in football, in Madden, in college football, just like that. I promise you, it's going to happen. This is crazy. This is a microtransaction mishap. It's a microtransaction.

56:12Microtransaction mishap.

56:16Microtransaction mishap. Oh, shit. You found that I fucked up. Now I got to hide it. Oh, I'm putting out a yellow Twitter post. I got to put a block of color with some text on it. Apologize. That's way worse than what I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be the VC nickel and diamond stuff. This is so much worse than what I thought. I don't love the locked single player content behind microtransactions. Because it's not like you're losing out on Dynasty or, you know, Road to Glory. It is just an odd one of, like, why did we choose this one slider? And why did we choose that microtransaction idea?

56:52It's a microtransaction mishap. Who thought this through? who thought that was a smart move it's it's charging for difficulty options like for people who want can you imagine if like from software we're like hey you've you've been asking you know katakawa's you know on our ass trying to get us to make more money you guys have been asking for an easy mode you're gonna get one but it's 20 bucks don't put that out there like it'll happen it's i don't know i i think mizaki would murder somebody before that happened the fact that like night rain never got yeah uh a goddamn cyberpunk tie-in or you know what i mean like but that's that's what that is it's just like i just want to experience this in a quicker way what was going to happen there the snowball was going to take effect was now they were going to mess in the back end with the xp you earn as you read that your xp would get capped eventually right and i read that tweet that it would take you 127 seasons they're just going to start messing with the xp where earning your xp and leveling up and getting to that maximum rank would take so long that no matter what you'd have to pay right that that's where we were going to get to the snowball effect of this microtransaction mishap moonstone in the twitch chat says pay 14.9 to remove all poison swamps um but like nba 2k we got to get into the idea of like refunding me my points when i make the wrong build$10 for a refund build

58:22how much how much you drop it on NCAA well I'm playing game pass thanks to EA play I'm gonna buy the game because the game is good they got mascot mode now the presentations through the oh I'm excited for that they got mascot mode and I'll tell you why I'm excited for it for Ray Narva's streams of course because he always goes back to the old one yeah this is gonna be I mean the game fucking rocks this is just This is a small pebble that we've tripped over to microtransaction mishap. Just put out the tweet today. Apologize. Take it back and reset the course. It's your year three. Don't start burning the goodwill of the football gamers now when they believe in the product.

59:01Uncle Death Ghost is a pretty big pebble. Oh, Andy, Ray didn't like the new mascot mode. It was kind of as, oh, damn, I didn't know that. Damn, that sucks. You got to unlock all of them. Mm. Mm. Put it on a shirt, microtransaction mishap. Put it on a shirt. I can see it. It's my new thing. We're going to talk more microtransactions. You never know. Story number four. Talk about a transaction right now. Good news for you. Palworld won't raise its price following 1.0 launch. This comes from Darren at GameSpot. After more than two years in early access, Palworld has launched into 1.0. There's some good news for anyone looking to dive into it.

59:39Usually, early access games charge a smaller fee to entice users, increasing the sticker price once the full release goes live. Palworld developer Pocket Pair is bucking that trend, and it says that the game's price will remain at$30 following its full launch on PC and console. Quote, After much thought, we've decided not to raise the price of Palworld following the 1.0 release and will keep it at$29.99. The developer wrote, We are incredibly proud of how far Palworld has come. Thanks to the amazing support of our players, it has become a success beyond our wildest dreams. As a small way of saying thank you, We will be keeping the price at$29.99.

1:00:13Thank you for your continued support. That's awesome. I love that, Mike. That's really, really great news. That's the right move right there. We talk about Steam in particular and those sales and those smaller indie titles and finding that sweet spot of these aren't$70 games. All of a sudden, you are finding a Mecha Chameleon for$7, and it's selling outrageous numbers, right? Pal World found a comfortable spot at about that$30 mark. and it's like, just sit there. Stay there. This is the right price for the product and you're going to sell crazy. And it has sold crazy. Because I'll tell you what.

1:00:49There are a lot of adults out there. I know that people are struggling with money. The world is in utter chaos. I'm saving up money for my college football points. And your sign. Haven't seen it yet. Oh, haven't seen it yet. Yeah, it's been about a week and a half. It's almost like I forgot about it. But it's going to be a good surprise. It's going to be your secret Snickers. Almost like you forgot about it. I know people are struggling. I know the world is in utter chaos. But there are a lot of people like me who, you know, because they don't have children to care for or families to pay for. Yep.

1:01:33Definitely not buying a house anytime soon. Definitely not buying a house. Why save up for that? And those are people with expendable, you know, resources and income. And when those Steam sales go live, your$30 game goes down to$22.99. That becomes a lot closer of a, fuck it, I'll add it to the, it's a big Steam sale. I'm buying three things. I'll add that to the cart. I think that's awesome to leave it at$29.99. That's huge, Mike. And the game rocks. The game rocks. I don't like guns. Pal World is a great game. Take out the guns. I get it. You want a certain vibe. Give me a, give me servers. Give me a server that I could just say like, we're not making guns.

1:02:15Cause it just makes it all look goofy. Yeah. Just let me, let me shoot arrows. God, that game's good, man. They really, it's survival craft. It's an awesome, it's an awesome, like melding of everything that I've wanted for a long time. There is, have you seen, there's another game coming out that I wish I hadn't even started this thought because I'm going to give Barrett nothing here. to try to google he's gonna get nothing from what i'm about to explain remember what uh i think it's on uh the games cast after this of like me just trying to search whatever the fuck you had said explaining a good games cast after this by the way me lucy and greg uh and bear talking about what the next five years of the industry look like and there is there's a lot of like really really good discussion there um but there's a game coming out soon that is very similar to pal world okay with uh it's a lot cuter it's like adorable um yeah type in cute game pokemon creature catching survival okay i like this all those things chat you know what i'm talking about it's not animo it's it's definitely not animo uh it's it's definitely survive it's very like the characters are very kind of...

1:03:27I don't know. The algorithm is telling me it's anime. Cutesy or anime. Definitely not talking about anime. It just got released or... It was debuted like last week. Okay. But look into it, Barron. Keep on looking into it. Okay. But that game, hopefully, could be really, really huge. They're saying Power World sold over 25 million copies. Wow. Remember that was like... I mean, that was... That was such a huge Xbox game. That was Sarah Bond's... wind that was sarah bond's like golden goose she's like i fucking crushed we need parrot we need like power world everywhere in every household world fucking did it yeah that's unbelievable no it's definitely not pickmon 1.0 coming up i'm excited to jump back in i want to jump back in and do it all big fan of the game similar to pal world is just what i'm gonna google right now um no it's not arc it's not arc i like arc uh either way mike i mean it's huge that Pat Ward would do that.

1:04:24And you know what else is huge, Mike? Tell me. The We News. Big. Big. It's not small. We News is huge. It's a huge news. Also, there's something wrong with... I think... Something's wrong with the audio. So the We News music isn't playing. Oh, it's okay. I could try to hurt our ears for a second and try to fix it. No. All right. You said you really want it. So I'm going to do it. You go to our last story, Mike. Yeah. I take you to our last story. It's a big news day at the Weed News Channel. What do we got?

1:05:03PlayStation says, due to ongoing technical considerations, online support for the user-generated content features in Infamous 2 on PlayStation 3 will end as of August 31st, 2026. Stop it. You hopping on that infamous Who's playing that? One more time? Stop it You hopping in one more time? 1:05:41This shit's got to end After this date, players will no longer be able to access browse, upload, download, or play UGC missions through the infamous two online servers. Offline features, including the main campaign, will remain playable. Greg notes that this will make the Platinum Trophy unobtainable unless Sucker Punch updates the game. Damn, that's a great Greg note right there. Greg note! He's writing a note to let you how difficult it'll be to get that Platinum. Get you back into the studio. You two are already ready for a follow-up. I'm ready. I'm so fucking ready. You guys crushed that. I will say, though, like, I definitely witnessed, like, oh, yeah, Greg cannot keep a rhythm or a beat or tempo.

1:06:21Yeah, I mean, he's a white boy with no rhythm, but he's got motion. Oh, got a lot of motion. Yeah, a lot of rhythm. And how'd swipe that turn out? Swipe that come out all right? Oh, it's beautiful. God, swipe that. Yeah, beautiful. 1:08:18Barrett claimed the termination... Last name Barrett, please. Last name Barrett claimed the termination was a, quote, breach of contract to get out of paying him over$80 million that Sony would owe him as a result of its$3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie in 2020. That's so much money. Oh, my God. And just to reiterate, my first name is Barrett. Yeah. Christopher. Last name is Barrett. No relation. No relation. Andy Robinson of EGC says, The former editorial leadership of British publication BG247 has founded a new games brand, Respec, which they say will offer a new independent voice in increasingly shrinking games media.

1:08:59Respec is a news, reviews, and feature site managed by former VG247 editor-in-chief and Eurogamer editorial director Tom Ori, and former VG247 editor-at-large and RPG site owner Alex Donaldson. Chad, are you still looking into that game? Okay. Hey. You still looking into that game for me? Let me know. That's it for Wii News, everybody. Let's get into super chats and kindoffunny.com forward slash you're wrong. Or you can let us know what we got wrong with the show.

1:09:37I'm looking at the you're wrongs. Want to make sure I don't give any credit to a you're wrong that's just, you know, fake shit. Those are from yesterday. Yeah, we only have one today, but Mad Rock does. I'll read this one. It says, Bandai Namco is stupid enough to make that kind of transaction mishap. Micro transaction mishap. They put an$8 price tag on Tekken 7's frame data. I don't know how real or not that is, but that's awesome. Shout out to fucking late-stage capitalism. You don't want to put me in the room. You know what I mean? Because I got ideas. I got ideas. Super Smash Bros. You ready for this?

1:10:19Let me pay for all the characters. Exactly. Hey, Nintendo, I got an idea. I don't want to unlock these. Don't start with me. Let me fast track. You let Mike in the room here. I got a thousand ideas. Yeah. Let me fast track right now. Let's see. We have a super chat from Alex Frazier says, saw a meme the other day that Holland is evil boo side by side. Too accurate. Great photo. Yeah. A lot of great storylines out of the world cup. I had a, you know, 30 seconds of sports with Andy Cortez featuring Snowbike Mike yesterday on the stream. A lot of great storylines. Yeah. Have you been talking about it?

1:10:55About the world? I love it. I mean, World Cup. But also, where's LeBron Brown going? Ronnie. Golden State. I think he's going to Cleveland. No, that would be boring. I mean, it would, but. That'd be so boring. Go home. It'd be way cooler if he retired. Played with Steph. Oh, my God. Imagine. A year. But I don't think it'll happen. The Heat or Cleveland? Mike made a face for the audio. If he calls me out, I'll help him. I'll help him with this decision. Vavu Yios. $5. Super John says, payday tax. Let's go Morocco. Thank you. I'm rooting for Morocco for you now. Morocco right there. Who are you rooting for?

1:11:32Who's your storyline of choice on the World Cup?

1:11:38I mean, it would have been Egypt. But that was a bad time. Okay, okay. That was a bad time during that Games Daily where me and Bless were just reacting in real time to all of the insane comeback. Oh, it was amazing. That's right. France, Morocco today. Mbappe, your guy? Only because he's boys with Wemby. So, yeah. And then, of course, Messi looking to go back to back. Could be massive. I'll tell you my favorite, too. It's Norway and England. One, Holland. Everybody loves this guy. He's the best. He's also a freak. He's a freak. You watch the guy. That's a freak. Okay? He's a cryptid. He's running out there.

1:12:16He's like a woodland creature hunting out there. On the flip side, okay. England. Harry Kane. Harry Kane. Sir Harry Kane. Tim Geddes. I'm about to give him a piece of land in a castle if he wins this. Did you hear his voice after the interview? Oh, my gosh. So funny. Because what he did in Mexico was unbelievable. Torrential rain. Down a player. Kept him up all night banging on drums, lighting off firewood. And he came into the Azteca. and his team came out on top. That was unbelievable. Crazy win. Crazy win. Co-op 64 with his Super Chat. You're out to Co-op 64. It says Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2 Shadow Drop.

1:13:00Did that happen? On PlayStation, I believe, right? Yeah, yeah. People were excited about that one. Launching an expensive console with heavy hitters. Oh, I already read that Super Chat. That was from Michelangelo. Sorry, Michelangelo. Yeah. Aaron Lime with a$5 Super Chat says they want everyone on UE5 so they can hire contractors for cheap and lay them off for cheap proprietary engines that run better be damned. Yeah. That's what it seems like, right? It's like trying to just get everybody on the same thing so we can just less onboarding. Yeah, right. Less onboarding, easier to jump on and off, but we saw, you know, CD Projekt Red do that.

1:13:36It's a bummer. It's a bummer. Thank you everybody for your Super Chats. Thank you to Clawmaster with a$10 Super Chat. It says, it's a damn shame what they did to Id. As someone who grew up playing the Doom games and Quake, what they did to that studio is criminal. Shame on Microsoft. Thousand percent. $5 Super Chat from Gaming with Josh. Doom 2016 to Eternal to Ancient Gods to Dark Ages and now Revelations. What a generational run. Thank you, Id. Thank you, Id. That's going to do it for today's Kind of Funny Games Daily.
