0:41And what the hell's going on with Prince of Persia Black Flag Remakes? We'll have all this and more because this is Kinda Funny Games Daily.

0:55what's up and welcome back to kind of funny games daily for thursday january 15 2026 of course i'm your host tim gettys i'm joined today by greg miller hello you're very animal crossing doubt today i just have happened to be animal crossing doubt today all right teapot teacup well i'm using I came in hot and heavy and this has been the problem with the teacup. The teacup, not a coffee cup. Doesn't hold as much coffee as I need it to. So I am using my Animal Crossing Thermos mug here from Mir. But that's actually from the Nintendo store where I'll be going for the launch party today with Joey Noel.

1:28Andy Cortez:Animal Crossing Switch 2 Update 3.0. It's all out today, everybody. Kind out tomorrow, yesterday, but don't worry about it. I'm playing it. Come on now. I'm on the first episode of Kind of Funny Gamescast plays, our editorial product where we sit down, We play a game, sure, on a stream over there, but it is a Gamescast. It goes on your Gamescast feeds, and it talks editorially about a video game. Yes, I've been playing Animal Crossing Switch 2. That is very exciting. I got lots to say. Yeah, so you and Joey are going to be sitting down a couple shows from now. We have a very, very busy day. Very busy day.

1:59Just real quick, just letting you all know the plan for today. We have this. Then, of course, we have the Gamescast that's going to be breaking down Andy and Barrett's top 10 games of the year. After that will be Gamescast Plays with Greg and Joey up and checking out. it's after that is in review diehard yes you're right it is our first of the nick scarpino in reviews going up which is very exciting and then after that is going to be greg and joey playing some animal crossing and then after that if everything works out perfectly which we think it's going to uh even though the day has already fallen apart away from us at 2 p.m the resident evil 9 showcase is happening worst case scenario right the idea was probably is that well yeah that but i mean worst case scenario it's me and joey still playing animal crossing on youtube for the the plays and then on Twitch you go with your live reaction Resident Evil that goes up on YouTube later.

2:44Yes. Yes. Yes. But anyway, it's kind of funny.

2:46Andy Cortez:Ever been later. Fall behind schedule. How are you? I'm great. Animal Crossing day. You kidding me? Yeah. So stoked. So stoked to talk about it. So stoked to show it. Ask me how I am. How are you? I was the baby here. No, no, not yet. But even more important than that, Kevin, he please bring up the link. He's back. Everybody. I'm so excited about this. It is the 30th anniversary of Pokemon is upon us, which means we're going back to where it all began. Fat Pikachu. They're re-releasing the classic fat plush. My friend Vincent had this growing up, and I was always very jealous of him. I do not know that this is going to fit the aesthetic of my house, but I don't know that that matters.

3:26When does that ever stop you? There are certain things that need to just kind of break the mold, and that thing is Fat Pikachu. I don't like this Olympic Pikachu. This new Pikachu at some point along the way. He looks strung out on diet pills. It's bad. It's really bad. So, everybody, show your love to the Fat Pikachu. Is it going to be available in the States? I doubt it. You know what I mean? We'll find out maybe next month on Pokemon Day, which, of course, I'm excited for. Remember, if you're watching live. Because I'm the new voice of Pokemon, you'll be taking care of a baby. But I'll be there ready to talk about Gen 10, which I can't wait for.

3:56Just look at this. Even here, they're skewing him a little bit. He's getting squashed there. Fat Pikachu's even. There he is. There's my chomky fucking boy. God, I love him so much. If you're watching live, be part of the show by super chatting on YouTube.com slash kindoffunnygames. And remember, we couldn't do this without our Patreon producers. So thank you to Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, and Delaney the Psalm Twining. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It is time for some news. We have seven stories today. Ah, Baker's Desert!

4:34Story number one, Ryan Hurst, cast as Kratos in Prime Video's God of War. This comes from Rosie Cordero at Deadline. Ryan Hurst from Sons of Anarchy and the Abandons has been cast as Kratos in Prime Video's God of War from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. 5:29Andy Cortez:guy right i am and i caught a lot of people off guard with that yesterday yeah we were when we went to ad break and mike's like who the fuck is this guy to my opie gave his life for jacks in the shower in the prison you don't remember this it's like what the fuck like i impressed some people with my sons of anarchy and knowledge from back in the day yeah yeah that was a great stream and that's that's a great i remember a lot of times in the old apartment streaming that shit while i was doing whatever game platinum i was yeah you're just a endless well of surprises greg you know I understand you'll just watch any garbage put on TV, but for me, Sons of Anarchy, that's a high bar.

6:01A high bar. Was he a standout in the show? A thousand percent, and he got out before the show really went to dog shit. Oh, okay. Because the show not – And I can't even speak to how good – Those first few seasons, though, interesting. They just suddenly went to Ireland. I was like, what's going on? But then it got crazier and crazier and crazier and crazier. Let's see, and then – Hold on. In a reunion with – Let me read this again because I got a little lost. In FX's hit motorcycle drama, Sons of Anarchy, from Kurt Sutter. Oh, Kurt Sutter was like the showrunner of Sons of Anarchy. Yes, correct.

6:33Okay, okay, okay. I got that, I got that, I got that. Additional notable credits include many fan favorite titles. AMC's The Walking Dead. I don't remember him in Walking Dead. I mean, well, Gia watched it all. Definitely, I dropped out before he would have shown it probably. CBS's SWAT, Disney Plus's The Mysterious Benedict Society. Bosch, maybe Nick saw him in Bosch. well when nick you know wanders into the office around 12 30 today we'll check on it up next he will be seen in his early word no hard upcoming trojan war about 4 45 the odyssey he's in the odyssey i yeah everyone's in the odyssey everyone's in the odyssey everyone is like you should be in the odyssey so i'm happy happy about that um he was beta red hudson says remember beta oh think about it yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah wow even by then i think i was drift i might have That was after Negan, right?

7:21Oh, yeah. Yeah, so it's like I wasn't watching, but I saw clips from it. Yeah. Oh, man, what a time, Walking Dead. Anyways, what do you feel about this? Awesome, cool. You know what I mean? Here's what I know at this point. I love God of War, you know, the 2018 reboot, revitalization here. I'm excited to see what this is in an era where video games are getting their due. I mean, we're going to talk about Sophie Turner here in a second, how great she looks, right? Will that be a great product? who knows but we're talking about last of us you're talking about other things talking about uncharted which just nailed it as a movie video game movies video game adaptations are getting more credit than ever so a property i like great uh amazon who has shown because it's amazon right and fuck that up yep you're right there amazon really throwing me off here though shown that they'll put let me just finish this thought before i saw you get distracted amazon who's shown that they can nail it with fallout okay cool and then to bring in ryan hearst who i don't know but i loved his opie and i i think in the other things i've seen of him since and i enjoy as well cool yeah let's go yeah i know that like i you know like i think there i saw somebody in there but isn't he white and stuff like that like there's that part of this thing to get into of like well is he kratos this greek god like what who are there i don't know what they're going to do with any of that action but we'll find out everyone's saying that he was in ragnarok he's thor in ragnarok and i got really confused why would deadline of course and i was like what the fuck no no no in god of war ragnarok which makes a lot of sense yeah why would they not mention that because this is Deadline and they go people who I'm sorry people who love movies and read Deadline would want to know about who they got to hear about Bosch though they I guarantee not the fucking game franchise people always be based on Deadline understand Bosch they don't even know it got a worse

9:06Andy Cortez:I'm with you I'm with you it makes me really upset I don't like that Deadline figure your shit out it was a monocle everybody thank you for understanding what was going on there of course JD Elliott super chat saying i love you guys so much please fix the youtube thumbnail we already did it said casted but now it's just cast it's been fixed hey can we also give a shout out to the new youtube thumbnail format though i have not seen enough people complimenting andy andy made it right yeah on this so like the and i know roger made this thumbnail but the little banner on the side i think is such a what's it remind you of what's it remind me of uh box art for Video games, right?

9:43Greatest hits.

9:44Andy Cortez:Yeah. Fucking awesome. Jen Z FC says, I feel like Greg would vibe so hard with No Man's Sky's new updates and added features considering he loves Starfield and Animal Crossing. Every, every major, major update. I'd say like every year and a half, two years, I come back to No Man's Sky. And so whatever the latest update you're talking about, I did touch jump back into No Man's Sky last year at some time. I forget when you could go check my trophies probably did pop. It doesn't matter. And it's always the same thing. I'm going to jump in and like, wow, okay, but this isn't what I want. Like, I want a story.

10:14I hate building. Like Animal Crossing, you know, decorate your rooms and stuff. You'll find out how I like that today. But, you know, like the base building in Starcraft, I've never been about. Raptor Face says, I don't know how I feel yet. Hitting hard on Viking stuff and Kratos is Greek. And then Razzle says, Kratos isn't a white guy, though. Yeah, so we'll have to see how that all. Exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If it does or if it doesn't. Yeah. Probably won't. They probably won't mention it. Yeah.

10:40Andy Cortez:Dan, why are you? You're supposed to be Greek. Shoulda boy. Story number two. Maybe it'll be like a modern retelling. You know what I mean? Where it's in Alabama. Oh, shit. They got mountains in Alabama. Appalachian. Yeah, okay, cool. Nah, that's not Alabama. It'll all work out then. Story number two. Tomb Raider's first look. Sophie Turner becomes Lara Croft as filming starts on Prime Video's reboot series. She's out here making shows about games. This is coming from Gianna Levy at Variety. Prime Video has unveiled a first look at the forthcoming live action series Tomb Raider, starring Sophie Turner as video game icon Lara Croft.

11:18The series, which is currently in production, is an adaptation of the classic video game franchise that was originally greenlit at Prime Video in May 2024. Turner's involvement was first reported in November of that year. Bro. This outfit. This is one of those where it's like, we've had so many interpretations of Tomb Raider. some good some bad some in the million whatever like to be like all right how are we gonna put our stamp on this to put out the costume test you know what i mean and have it be guess what it's from the fucking video game you're like you know what i respect it yeah i respect it quite a bit this is leading with your best foot forward i love it got the glasses down obviously the dual pistols the straps on the legs the it's just this the colors are right yeah the colors of the glasses the colors of the shirt those little things matter yeah i think they should have left the glasses

12:03Andy Cortez:behind i know they're iconic i know whatever it's just from a different time that's the time is now we've seen all the other ones we've seen all the like we've seen the like x-men 2000 like just black leather angelina jolie version right yeah we've seen the it's the reboot games and we're just gonna like do that exact same thing yep no let's go back i agree we're going back in the games the two games greg remember that oh yeah when they announced that yeah i do remember that remember whoever got that too far away on fantasy credit i don't know i think i did did you i'm sorry i don't remember yeah no no i just i did later i went in and you believe it bit on it i had to bid on something you know what i mean you got it money's burning hole in your pocket like the remake of the first game is gonna review okay i don't think it's gonna get me a million points but how long do you think she's in this outfit because i feel like you know this is an actual series so it's like kind of when we get joel and ellie in their shirts for like you know the one episode so i imagine like even with me where i'm like i don't love the glasses i think it's such a nice homage i think you get to you open the episode or whatever and throw about it whatever and then she's just into normal clothes and what well these are normal clothes correct but what is the never seen anyone read a tomb dress like this what's the the phrase the internet phrase that everyone has is it vampire surfer remember they're like talking shit about modern tv shows where it's like it's a vampire surfer show where it's like the show's called vampire surfer and back in the day if a show was called vampire surfer every episode you'd see a vampire on a surfboard got it surfing okay but in modern times surf dracula surf dracula thank you if a show is called surf dracula you're not going to see a surfboard or a fucking fang until the final five minutes of the of the season i've never heard this right and it's just like that is the thing is i'm not getting that vibe from this i think she's in this the majority of love it she's rocking it she's raiding them tombs also sophie turner lots of ups lots of downs i obviously despised her in the X-Men movies.

13:53Okay, but that's not her fault. Well, yeah, that's fine. I'm just saying, did not like her. That is not her fault. Loved her in Game of Thrones, obviously. Of course. But her scene-stealing performance was in some shitty comedy movie on Netflix. Okay. I don't remember which one it was. I think it was the remake of She's All That that was called He's All That. Okay. I could be wrong about this, but she is in it, and she's the greatest, one of the just greatest characters I've ever seen. And she just steals the show and then isn't in the movie anymore and it's really sad. But that scene was like, oh, there's range here.

14:26Sophie Turner can do it all. Can she be Lara Croft? I believe.

14:29Andy Cortez:What's her story too? She was married to a Jonas. Did they have a kid or not? They're not married anymore, right? No idea about it. Chad, I need all that information. That stuff doesn't interest me. I mean, me neither, but that's all I know. Because I didn't see he's all that. I saw her in Game of Thrones. I saw her in the X-Men movies. I had so many bones to pick with the X-Men movies. They have two kids and they were not married. They're not married. they were never married divorce somebody says see the chat you can't be trusted i don't know how hard it is for you chat to fucking open wikipedia you know what i mean take well i can do it look i'll stop the show to do it john luke asked if she's gonna shoot a dinosaur and i hope she does she has to right i mean she doesn't have to okay you know i apologize but i mean like when you see this outfit you think she's gonna they're married for five years two kids wow was that hard everybody you know what i mean be better everyone divorce one kid are you not are you kirby link don't just talk fucking look at the thing jesus christ you hate to see it everybody a chat led astray because i'm not asking what do you think chat i'm saying what do you know chat what do you know keep going on my audiobook hold on everybody okay this just in from the chat it was not he's all that it is called do revenge and i highly recommend you watch it just to see her her in it it's great story number three Ubisoft re-uploads Assassin's Creed Black Flag soundtracks as a remake announcement looms.

15:54This comes from Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming. The official Ubisoft music account has begun to re-upload all of the soundtracks from the original Black Flag as rumors of a remake continue to swirl. As the time of writing, 18 soundtracks from the game... What?

16:11What? As the time of writing, 18 soundtracks from the original game have been uploaded to Ubisoft Music with other videos across Ubisoft's YouTube channels being added and hidden to playlists. So tracks, right? Yeah, I guess so. That's just a weird way to say that. There's been a lot of Assassin's Creed. I don't think there's been 18 soundtracks. That's what it was like. Are they talking about like, was there that many DLC packs for Black Flag? I was like, no, maybe not back then. They weren't doing that yet. The move has caused a flurry of speculation online, suggesting that Ubisoft's gearing up to announce the hotly anticipated Black Flag remake, dubbed Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resync.

16:46First reported by Insider Gaming, I mean, the Black Flag remake under the codename Obsidian has been in development for some time and is scheduled to be released by the end of this fiscal year, which is, of course, Greg. March 31st. 2026. Nailed it. But this is where things get tricky. That's why everybody's getting laid off right now and studios are being closed. I didn't need to. I timed it wrong. I want you to know I timed it wrong. You said, I know fiscal years. That's what I pressed it. And then you kept talking. As long as the audience is clear on that, that'd be great, because I know that clip's going to go around.

17:21Fuck. Oh, my God. We also see material stating that Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake would launch on January 16th, which is tomorrow, Greg. With marketing in December. And while no marketing is yet taking place, it's led people to believe the game could have marketing direction to be shadow dropped. Unfortunately, on our side, it's been very difficult to pinpoint exactly whether any changes have been made due to recent security breaches at the company. However, as now posted on X, the Prince of Persia website has seen some back-end changes, which could suggest an imminent release. Original documentation said the Black Flag remake would start marketing in January and after the Prince of Persia remake's release.

17:56So all in all, things are lining up, albeit without any official proof as of the time of writing. Another thing to add here is Prince of Persia's Scent Time remake got an ESRB rating in the last couple days.

18:07Andy Cortez:Oh. So what do you take from this, Greg? What the fuck? Shit or get off the pot? What the fuck? Shit or get off the goddamn pot? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of hearing about all these goddamn, just fucking say something Ubisoft. Just fucking, we, here's what we just did. As a gamer community, we made Square Enix bend the fucking knee where they had to be like, all right, yes, there's a life is change coming. Calm down, everybody. We're glad it leaked. There you go. You know what I mean? Just fucking tell us something. I'm sick of talking about this every day. I, you're not gonna, it's not gonna fucking be oblivion.

18:39Andy Cortez:You're not gonna get oblivion numbers out of this. It's just for Black Flag. yeah Princess Persia I think there'll be a run to no you don't think so for a remake of Princess Persia Black Flag is going to destroy Princess Persia I guess you're right in sales oh sales yeah in terms of quality like good lord sense of time let's not remind you Greg we haven't seen this game yeah we've seen an hourglass now for the record there I kind of agree with that alright we lost our privileges we saw it the first time and we were too mean to it we were not too mean we're just gonna put it out and so if you have no expectations maybe you'll like it this time and if you don't we're not making games anymore god what a i know we've talked about ubisoft so many times in circles so many times but it is an interesting place to be right now where we've talked about it the big megaton releases right yeah we had star wars outlaws star wars ip made from the team that made the division yes how can you fail can't fuck it up we have assassin's creed in japan how could you feel it didn't really fuck it up right it was a success all that's considered but it just wasn't like the biggest success of all time which is a lofty goal but kind of a thing needed when everything else is kind of tanking around yeah um and then they didn't have a ubisoft forward last year yeah so right now it's like we really don't know anything ubisoft is officially doing except for this um announced four five times splinter cell remake i don't forget that we got three green dots i'm sorry division three is going to revolutionize the way Division 1 did.

20:14And I believe in Julian. And then Division 1, there's a definitive edition coming to China or Japan at least. I don't know what the fuck's going on over there. Yeah. Christopher says Outlaws and Avatar were amazing games. I will say, I played the hell out of Avatar. They added the third-person mode, and then they added the whole new expansion. It's like 20 hours or more content. I believe like five hours during the break. Game fucking rocks, Greg. It is so beautiful, but like, god damn, they really got it in. And you can start the expansion without getting that far into. I never got that far into the first game.

20:47So I never even got my little Banshee guy. But this new one, it starts off and you got your Banshee. So I'm flying around Pandora. So goddamn.

20:54Andy Cortez:How did you not get deeper into it? You're the only guy who likes Avatar. Yeah, but I don't like open world games. So it's like, yeah. Is it my favorite Far Cry I've ever played? Yeah. But that's still not enough to keep playing. Okay, fair enough. But yeah, I was very impressed. And the third also was first person, which I didn't love that much. third person i enjoy a lot more uh and it just i think looks cooler feels better all of that i recommend it anyways um prince of persia remake right i i am personally incredibly excited of course science time one of my favorite games of all time like in my theater at home i have five art pieces up and prince of video game ones and prince of persia sense of time is one of them like i adore this game and would love a remake would love an excuse to replay the game honestly like that's what it is it reminds me a lot of metal gear solid uh delta where it's like i it's just been long enough that i want to replay this game but i don't necessarily want to play the old version like i want just like quality of life updates and just little things uh because the combat in sands of time i don't know that they're going to fix it here but that was definitely not the highlight of no no no no running the walls man we wanted time god the show is so cool um so what's your read then do you think tomorrow we're playing this i mean that's the thing i feel like that'd be a horrible idea for them to just shadow drop oblivion it shadow drop prince of persia stands of time after all of this january 6th everything about this just sounds like i have no faith that it's going to be good then yeah yeah and that's very bad for what this project is and how long it's all taken and again we haven't seen this game this version of the game at all it's gonna look like the other one did at all probably not but like is it gonna look good I'm very hesitant about this I'm very excited but I also there's a lot of smokes here Greg lots of smokes and when there's smokes there's fires smokes lots of casteds but I mean what do you think do you think that there's shadow drops tomorrow I mean no here's the thing it's like every fiber of our being is people who watch the industry and know the industry I would say no right like there's just no excitement has been drummed up on this but then you say they're trying to oblivion it and i could easily see ubisoft being like this is our oblivion we could drop we already know that like we underwhelm with that first impression it's been gestating forever expectations are low for this so if maybe it is great i could see them being like let's just fucking spring it on them but a friday is a weird day to spring it on them that's not where we usually spring games on people yeah you do it in the middle of the week so we can talk about it you can stream it you can be all about it but it's also the thing of like Ubisoft also feels like a company lost in the woods right now and so nothing no bonehead decision from them would surprise me that that's what they're doing if that's what they're gonna do but we also are such a fucking gossipy little bitch industry that I feel like Schreier would already have the article up yeah it's happening everybody or he would have said something on reset era about it you know what I mean yeah Jordan Midler would be just gigantic somewhere writing about hey I VGC sources have confirmed it's happening then he'd break his 13th keyboard of the day you know what i mean go why oh my god curse me i love you jordan i love you too jordan you know that uh yeah assassin's creed black flag is the second part of this march 31st that gives it a little bit more time that seems more reasonable right that's the oblivion right yeah as assassin's creed carries so much weight as a franchise this game people are absolutely adored so yeah that could easily be but again with them i just don't see them doing that it's so unlike ubisoft it's so unlike ubisoft to be like no marketing lead up whatever here it is but what is like i know that's what i'm saying i think that's the bigger thing right now i don't think anybody knows they definitely don't know um but real talk all of the the snark and everything aside like i pray that this game is good i pray all these like i really really really need prince of persia to like get wins and what sucks is even when they get wins they still lose.

Meta layoffs hit Batman Arkham Shadow Studio camouflage. Boo! Projects canceled. This comes from Nathan Grayson at Aftermath. Yesterday, news broke that as part of the layoffs affecting around 10 ,000 people at Meta, the company had closed three VR studios, Sanzaru, Armature, and Twisted Pixel. Now, former Meta employees tell Aftermath that Batman Arkham Shadow developer Camouflage has suffered heavy layoffs as well, and that in-development game projects have been canceled.

29:24Speaking under the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, Former Meta employees said that Camouflage is now made up of, quote, just a handful of employees who are working on, quote, the new user experience for upcoming hardware. Studio heads, they told Aftermath, have been let go, and active game projects under development have been shut down. Additionally, they say a sequel to Batman Arkham Shadow was in development at Sanzaru rather than Camouflage, but as of yesterday, Sanzaru no longer exists. Boo, Timothy. a follow-up to the meta vr we already had been talking about where of course i talked at length of knowing sansaru so well uh of course just down uh south uh right by playstation i've been working with them for many years you then bring up camouflage ryan payton of course a frequent member founder who apparently would be one of these people since they're talking about the studio heads being gone uh frequent member of kind of funny right came through uh had uh what they said they've been with us forever doing so much with us they did the patreon tier right at one point am i wrong about this yeah it's a promote the game uh i mean like he came through to the original spare bedroom he was in the spare bedroom talking about his experience working on metal gear yeah yeah way back in the day yeah yeah uh when they were talking about republic coming to whatever platform it did because republic came to everything eventually and so it was always such a shock to see not shockish to say but always so surprising to see camouflage be this little indie studio that could and then when they made that jump to making iron man on playstation vr right and he told that story ryan told that story on content with us right of you know they made a demo threw it in the back of a truck drove down to marvel games headquarters and showed them to make them understand like this is what we're thinking about and they did that improve they got vr better than anyone i would say if not most i mean look like arkham shadows right and then they got bought up by meta right and it was like hey man here's the studio that's always been on the cusp you know they remind me so much of double fine before broken age and before the kickstar or Indiegogo success, right?

31:20Where it was, this game's gotta go or we're all out of fucking, we're all out of jobs, right? And so when they found that meta backing and it was cool, you guys are doing VR better than anybody. Let's get you, let's bring Iron Man over. Let's, you make Arkham Shadow. Let's box that up with every meta quest three or two, whichever it was that's coming out. You're like, damn, like this can be what it's like when a company publisher, hardware manufacturer with money comes in and says, hey we are doing something that we know isn't mainstream yet we are taking a shot on vr we are doing this we're going to bring in the brightest minds of vr we saw the same thing with ready at dawn right let's bring together the people who know how to do this and give them the resources to do this and of course then you are met with a harsh reality of the whims of the tech industry of they came in and they made a bet on vr everyone made a bet on vr and meta made a big vet on bet on vr and now that the time is well shit this hasn't paid off in double digit triple digit roi return on investment everyone turns their eyes to ai let's make a big bet on ai and when you're doing that you cash out your chips on the other bet you made and that fucking sucks because there's lives attached to this 10 ,000 for an audience of course that uh bought meta quests and want vr to succeed i know we're down on vr or at least what i would say reasonable on vr but there's so many enthusiasts who love VR.

32:43And like, we saw it obviously coming for a while of like, this isn't looking good. And then to see Medigo, I'd be like, all right, cool. Yeah. We're getting rid of this. We're getting rid of that. You're like, shit. Sanzaro, the people who made Asgard's wrath to a game that got a 10 out of 10 on IGN for a VR game, right? A game that was the gamers VR game. If they're closing them, what does that say? And I said on that episode this week or last week of, Hey, like this makes me worried if I'm camouflage and here you are, which it's dead as a doornail like they do not vr is done at meta which is then which i mean like they're you know one of the the biggest ones at this point it's like it's on steam alone and playstation vr2 yeah and all the support that that's getting like yeah ah it's who could have called it you know who could have called it it would have went this way yeah and it sucks that like it's like you just said this but like the amount of support the the things that had to line up for the success that like camouflage was able to bring to meta and find a way to make it work in a world that is not working yeah and then they did it they put out a like uh vr game of the year contender with shadows that's like a legitimate like oh wow this is a good one it's not just like oh what games can we put on a list yep you know yep yep um so man a heartbreaker again i this is the same conversation we had i think it was blessing me on monday right about this where it's like there's the heart and the head argument here where my heart ah this sucks and then my head's like well we've seen it coming but that doesn't make it any less painful to see our friends and people who have supported us for so long now be out of jobs and be left into a world of like cool think about it this way you know we always talk about the institutional knowledge of making a video game think about the institutional knowledge here of i know how to make vr games because meta said make me vr games this is what we talk about with move games and all these other things right and now to have that gone and be like okay cool is there a future in vr games i would argue no at least not in a major successful way so you make a new studio you try to figure out how to go make a go back to normal flat screen games like what do you do with that like yeah a lot of people out there are like fuck what do i do right now yeah totally even when you look at steam and the way that they framed the frame didn't mean to do that uh so much of it wasn't focusing on vr games it was focusing on being able to play flat screen games on a you know screen in in your face yeah you know like they're not even necessarily tripling down on new vr experiences you'll be able to play all the old ones and obviously they made the biggest swing with half-life alex so we'll see but very very sad unfortunate i'm sure this ai bubble won't pop the exact same way ejrpg uh super chest didn't say my company just had layoffs this morning me and my small team are fine but it never gets easier thank you guys for being a bright spot in my day always happy to be here with you yeah story number five idos montreal is developing an unannounced oh man quadruple a game in unreal engine this will save us do you remember the first trip quadruple a game greg i do uh i don't but you're saying it's perfect dark fuck right right right right right how'd that turn out we have a team of triple a developers from across the industry who are being harnessed into one place now to make a quadruple a game it never got it'll ever yeah don't never don't forget that amazing game from that's no moon studio yep and uh the amazing skull and bones from yourself how can everyone's favorite a link's in profile from an ios montreal employee has revealed that the studio is working on an unannounced quadruple a game in unreal engine five the finding was posted by linkedin scouter whoa timmer 222 that's crazy linkedin scouters man and it corroborates what i have heard about the project in december 2025 i posted to x that recent eidos montreal layoffs were connected to a project code named p11 which has been reducing its headcount as of late as it heads into beta and eventually launch p11's eidos montreal's new ip which according to sources has been in development since around 2019 and has faced significant setbacks and issues along the way.

36:54It's understood that the project has seen hundreds of millions of dollars invested, which unsurprisingly would warrant the quadruple A title. Of course. As mentioned on the Insider Gaming Podcast, the game is an open world action adventure game in third person. Funnily enough, I only know about the game because I was pursuing finding out more about the game last year for a book I'm writing about canceled video games because it looks surprisingly familiar to the canceled survival game Wild by Wild Sheets Studio. the similarities led me to believe that the ip had been bought by idos montreal and embracer but to my knowledge the project's entirely dead and

37:30every time you say p11 i think a pen 15 so i went at it the pen 15 for their p11 is a new ip gotcha go ahead you're trying to banana me it was more the fact that p11 is always in the middle and so i said how can i stop the show so everyone can be in my head uh-huh uh-huh uh pen 15 is a new ip but with some striking similarities as for p11 will be revealed remains to be seen but it's believed that the game will be ready to be shown later this year

37:54Andy Cortez:if things go well you think things are gonna go well greg no uh god bless you and again this is like such a i'm not talking shit maybe it will maybe maybe they're the ones who buck the trend and do the damn thing and you know what i mean but like we've heard this before and i feel like Like we just, the same lessons keep being taught in the video game industry, but we refuse to learn them. On today's Gregway, of course, which you'll be able to get soon on Patreon.com slash Kind of Funny, YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games, Apple and Spotify with your membership. I do a 25 minute episode as I often do.

38:28Andy Cortez:But one of the questions is like, why aren't we seeing shorter AAA games? And the answer is money. People want to make money. People count hours with money. The people who are green lighting millions of dollars to work on a game for seven years need money. So they want an$80 game and not a$50. It's all these things, which speaks right here. Tim. Yeah. We're not there yet. But I think while you're gone, me and Nick are going to crack the code and start kind of funny game publishing. Okay. And what we're going to publish. That was the time. There's never been a better time. You just get out of the way.

38:56Andy Cortez:The restrictor played his office. I talk about this on Gregway 2 in a more serious fashion. But what I'm going to do is we're just going to publish games that need to make 5 % profit. That's it. That's all we need. Give me a short, small, fun game. Can we sell 500 ,000 units of it? Yeah, we'll make money on it. Come on in. Let's go. Let's do this. How many A's? Huh? How many A's? I mean, you know what? None. We're going to be the first double B studio. Double B. Double B. Double B. Okay. All right. I like that. Bubble Butt. What a stand for. We got it. We're making Bubble Butt games. Bubble Butt games.

39:28That should just be the name of the company. That's how it is.

39:30Andy Cortez:Inevitably, what happens is you get these gigantic corporations that need to make as much fucking thousands and millions of dollars. And so we just get in the same fucking cycle over and over and over again. And to a degree, don't get me wrong, feel for these people and these big corporations, not the head heads, but the people. It was like they know this lesson probably, but they also know we are thundering down the tracks. We can't turn to our do I want a job or not? We can't turn to the stockholders and be like, this is unsustainable and will lead to more layoffs, closures and whatever else.

39:58Andy Cortez:We need to start making smaller games and really drop down what our expectations are for profit. And yet, like, nobody would want to hear that. Yeah. But me and Nick started while you were on. Oh, yeah. When you come back, you get a piece of the pie. Don't worry. All right. You get a lot of the work, too. We'll make sure you do that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Save the work for me. I appreciate that. Oh, man. It's so tough out there, man. And it's just so sad to see that this is even like – I was doing the show with Blast yesterday, bringing up how wild it is that a decade ago, Scalebound was just like the game we use as an example of like, oh, a game that got canceled.

40:32You know? Yeah. The decade before that, it was Starcraft Ghost. It was just such a... There's a Star Wars 1313, but you're not able to rattle off four to five major cancellations a year from giant studios where then the teams are just shuttered and just gone forever. Story number six, Life is Strange reveal is officially coming. This comes from Life is Strange on Twitter. Separate the real from the rumor. Join us for the exclusive reveal of the next Life is Strange game. On January 20th at 10 a.m. Pacific, Life is Strange returns in 2026. Greg, you excited? No, but I'm interested. You know, I do love Life is Strange, despite how rough it's been treated.

41:12I've ranted on this game's daily IP in recent weeks about this, where it's just like, I am not interested in the return of Chloe. I think we should have walked away from Max and Chloe, continuing to be hung up on them and continuing to do stuff with them, especially with different creators. Like, I just feel like they did the right thing with Life is Strange. Well, Life is Strange before the storm was a great idea, and it was really well done. Life is Strange 2 was a good game that just didn't find the audience the way the original one did, and I feel like they panicked after that. Like, we got to get back to Max and Chloe.

41:44We got to get back to at least Max or whatever. And I know, of course, there was True Colors in there, which I think was fucking awesome, but as we all know from Double Exposure, they're kind of tying back into that as well in a weird way, in a way that I just... I'm going to spoil for you, all right? at the end of double exposure, not the actual whole story or whatever, but like Max is like assembling the Avengers of like, who else has these superpowers? Like me. And it's like, I know you're a true color. It's like, we don't know. That was, this is double exposure. I know you're double exposure.

42:11So it's like,

42:12Andy Cortez:I don't, I don't need that. Like, I just like this to be a little anthology series of, you know, teens who are trying to find themselves. Like, you know what I mean? Like we don't need to do this. So I don't know. I'm still going to watch this. I am at, it's 10 AM. I don't know how long it is. if we can find out how long it is, maybe we live react on games daily to it. That could be fun. I'm still going to probably end up playing it, but who knows? Whiskey Samurai in the chat said, Barrett, stop walking into the shot. That hat's too big. Hat's got to be a lot smaller for Barrett. Let's get to story number seven.

42:45This one's something for me. I hope that Blessing's somewhere out there watching this as well. Somewhere out there. We got a 35th anniversary trailer for, I don't know, video. Yeah. Celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog and his 35th anniversary. I haven't seen this yet. I haven't seen it either. I'm excited. Here's to the next level. Bing! Do-do-do. Oh. Do-do. Do-do.

43:14Super speed. Big attitude. Red shoes. It's true. Zero patience. Let's do it. Wow, Sonic X got in love. Endless adventures.

43:33Countless friendships. When we join forces, the sky's the limit. It's not over, Sonic. Attack. Iconic rivalries. No. This ends now. Come on, man.

43:55Many rings.

43:59Infinite worlds. Road trip! Woo-hoo! Hero. One hero. Try to keep up. Fuck yeah. Forever fast. Happy 5th anniversary. Here's to the next level. Sick logo. I wish we got some type of announcement. Normally for the Sonic anniversaries, we get some pretty good stuff there um remember we pranked blessing with that one video yeah yeah that reminded me the whole opening of that reminded me yeah yeah i love that i i love so much greg that we're at a point that we're a decade removed from just everything sonic just being so bad and so sad and the cycle of sonic just continuing to break my heart that we're now at the 35th anniversary and we can get a minute and a half trailer that's just just hype just reminders to me of like all the good things that he's done recently in so many different forms movies tv legos video games crazy stuff i know sonic i know you are the sonic fan blesses the sonic fan i never want to take away from that but as the og piece of shit sonic fan i hate you as the man who had the sega master system and then bought this convinced in first greatest parents to get the genesis and was then sonic's better than mario just across the board i'm talking shit as a man who owned game gear as a man who owns Sega Saturn and stuff.

45:17It's insane to me that when I put down the baton and you guys picked it up as the real Sonic fans, as the real Sonic fans, the staying power of this hedgehog is the coolest dude around that. He is still as popular that my son is still, it is not still. My son is obsessed with Sonic to the point this fucking morning. This kid wakes up. I put him, I don't know what time was two 30 in the morning. He's in my bed. I went and put him back in his bed. I fell asleep for a second. I went back to my bed. eventually I wake up with him already in the bed and I open my eyes and it's like oh there's light coming in it's 6am and I rolled over and it was not 6am and we put him back in there and then at 540 he called me and he's like I need I'm pooping which means he needs me to come wipe his bottom or help him wipe his bottom because he's learning I walk in there completely naked except for one sock I'm like what are you doing at 540am

46:04Andy Cortez:he's like I'm getting dressed I'm like okay and so I take care of him get him in there put his underwear on I walk out and then we're in bed trying to get just 10 more minutes to sleep And this kid goes, daddy, mommy, where's shadow? I can't find shadow. And I'm like, I get up. I'm blurry. I got a flashlight. I'm looking all over the room. And he's like, daddy, what are you doing? I'm like, I'm looking for shadow. And he goes, the ultimate life form. And I go, what? He goes, you have to say shadow, the ultimate life form. Don't you remember from the book we read the other day? And I'm like, yes, the ultimate.

46:35Andy Cortez:I'm looking for shadow, the ultimate life form, man. That is incredible. God bless him. God bless him so much he has such a good life ahead of him he sure does has he seen Sonic 3 yet the movie which one is that with Shadow yeah yeah yeah okay good because I know we talk about it you need to understand like there's a constant stream of Sonic something Sonic going on in my movies I'm not against it either the movies are great we do not talk enough as a people about Shadow the Hedgehog Akira sliding on the motorcycle up a tower off of the tower to then do the freaking power surge thing against Sonic Come the fuck on.

47:12It's the coolest thing in the world. Oh, my God. Huge moment for me, Greg. Huge. But if I want to know about something really small, where would I look?

47:18Andy Cortez:You'd go to our last news story, the We News Channel, where we run you through all the nerdy news that's tiny that you need to know about. From Variety, Amazon sets Fallout competition series Fallout Shelter. Set inside Vault-Tec's bomb-proof vaults, Fallout Shelter drops a diverse group of contestants into an immersive, high-stakes world inspired by the game's signature dark humor, retro futurism and post-apocalyptic survival storytelling across the series of escalating challenges strategic dilemmas and moral crossroads contestants must prove their ingenuity teamwork and resilience as they compete for safety power and ultimately a huge cash prize as you know i famously turned down going on a reality television show because i love this company so much would have fucked up everything since i'm the i am the chaos emerald that keeps this place going but the fact that we have this happening and we have the unknown quantity named Snowbike Mike.

48:12You're right. We have to get Snowbike Mike on this show. Alright? I understand that'll mean like for six months, Mike can't be on our shows. Fine. Whatever. You know what I mean? He can put it in metadata. It'll all be spelled wrong. But we need Mike on this show and I'll do anything I need. It'll happen. I love it. I have high expectations for this. I don't think I'm going to watch it myself, but Amazon's really been doing a good job with production value for the shows. Obviously, they care about Fall a lot. The show's incredible so far. I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but really liking season two.

48:43Really liking it. And their reality shows have been really high quality, and specifically the competition stuff. So I think that this is going to be a hidden gem for people. But again, I don't know who those people are, because it's not me, probably. From the insider, Maisie Stella is reportedly in Talks to Star as the lead in the live live action life is strange series. Wow. Okay. No, you don't get to do that. Just transition off of this. When, when the rare fucking occasion that Nashville, the TV show and video games intersect, we got to stop for a second and say, yes, Maisie Stella, go fucking get him.

49:25Amazing on Nashville. An amazing singer songwriter in her own right. She'd fit right in on this. Congrats to Maisie From Eurogamer Unearthed materials Allegedly recovered From a discarded hard drive Used at the now defunct Monolith Productions Have revealed work done On a cancelled 2010 Non-Arkham Batman game For Warner Brothers There's a whole thread On Blue Sky Of assets of this That's a BS Oof Yes Oof You look at that It was screenshotting Oof Oh there you go Okay cool What I stand out Is I know For a fact That there was a Superman Game in development at one of the WB studios. And I wait for someone to put more out about that because I sound like a crazy person.

50:06When I told Jason Schreier about it, he's like, I've never heard of that. I'm like, I know it's happening, but I know, Jason, I know. Demonstrates how music might adapt. Look at that walk. All right, well, come on now. They're trying. It's early. It's early. You know it's early. This doesn't count. It looks like a poop food. All right, keep going. From Connor McCarr at Eurogamer, over a thousand games from a single developer have been suddenly removed from the PlayStation store in what appears to be a massive move by Sony to shift shovelware games off the PS5 and PS5 store. The developer in question was THI Games, which prior to the wipe yesterday was the fourth highest ranked developer on the PlayStation Store in terms of quantity.

50:39Gotta get those easy Platinums. I'm sure I have a few THI games. Nonsense. From IGN, a Bully Online mod has been shut down forever just weeks after launch. You hate to see it. Retooled releases February 10th on PC. Relooted. Relooted. releases February 10th on PC and Xbox. Hypnos is announced for PC, launches this year. It's a first-person adventure and exploration game set in a Lovecraftian megastructure Fever Dream. Cool. Prison Architect 2 closed beta is set for January 19th. And IO Interactive has revised and reduced the PC specs for 007 First Light. We didn't get to talk about this yet, but Andy and I watched the NVIDIA GeForce showcase thing from CES and First Light was shown, and it didn't run like utter garbage.

51:26Oh, I know. I did hear right as I watched that. This is a very hopeful situation for this game. Former Zenimax online devs have formed Iron Root Games. Cool. I assume that involves Matt, who is talking about how he laughs when they cancel this project. Yeah. And that's it for Wii News. That's it for Wii News, everybody. Get to a couple Super Chats here.

51:52Super Chats! Opponents Prime says Tomb Raider has a higher chance of being better than God of War. Tomb Raider is a blank slate like Fallout, whereas any creative liberties with God of War spell doom. Being better. I think it's just a tough thing. I understand God of War. God of War has a higher starting place of expectations. The story is great. Tomb Raider doesn't have a great story. So, yeah. I think the Tomb Raider has a higher chance of being better than the games than God of War does of being as good as the game. Fair.

52:29Andy Cortez:Yeah, I agree with that. Vander Asens says, Switch 2 versions. That's why they delayed marketing. No. They wouldn't do that. And they would just do Switch 2 versions later. Yeah, everybody shits out their Switch 2 version. Shit them out. Dexter says, Tim, in case the baby comes this weekend, I wanted to wish you and Gia the happiest of days. The most fulfilling thing being a parent, you and Gia are going to crush it. suck it Greg I'll do no such thing I think G is going to be a great parent too she'd be really stressed out from having to carry a double load you know what I mean it's always hard on a single mother she's got two fucking children trying to banat me with the penis gold Billy says since Tim won't be here for Pokemon Day he loses his Gen 10 media privileges no previews or reviews thank you it will be hard for me to do it you know what I mean but I think I've proven myself time and time again with Zah with my violet playthrough.

53:21Don't worry about it. Let's get to your wrong. See what we got wrong today. Impossible, nothing. I know. Actually, we didn't get anything wrong. Hell yeah. That's pretty damn cool. Actually, we didn't get it wrong. This is just not good. Verification, more information. JG says, late news. Focus Entertainment has shut down Likert Studio, the developer of Metal Slug Tactics and Synergy. This news comes from Focus Entertainment's Q3 fiscal report. Got it. that sucks um yeah what a not fun day at news greg i mean it happens a lot it is often bad you know it does but hey but you need to know about it because it's nerdy yep uh we have fun stuff coming up of course the games cast right after this and then a whole day of fun content thank you for hanging out with us till next time love you all goodbye animal crossing
