In short

Kinda Funny Games Daily (July 13, 2026) covers gaming news: Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Laufey tweet implying a disc release before Sony’s January 2028 physical-media cutoff; EA removing microtransactions from EA Sports College Football 27 after backlash; and id Software downplaying layoffs’ impact.

Guests/hosts

Blessing (host) and Greg Miller (host). No external guests are interviewed in the transcript.

Key claims

  1. God of War Laufey: Santa Monica says “we can confirm God of War Laufey will be available on disc,” interpreted as “before end of 2027,” despite no exact release date. Hosts debate whether this is meaningful authority vs PR.
  2. College Football 27: EA removed paid progression/microtransactions in Road to Glory and Dynasty after players/content creators said it wasn’t disclosed pre-launch or in previews.
  3. id Software: id claims remaining staff is about the same size as during Doom (2016), maintaining a “flat studio” model.

Notable examples

  • Discussion of Comic-Con Hall H panels (God of War Laufey and Marvel’s Wolverine) and possible protests about disc availability.
  • EA’s paid progression previously ranged from $10–$150; removing it also blocks use of existing “college points” balances.

0:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yo, what's up? Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Monday, July 13th, 2026. I'm one of your hosts, Blessing, at ALEA Junior. Joining me is the legend, Greg Miller. Hey, Bless. I don't like that you're hosting. I'll tell you that right now, because you've been gone a long time, and I've missed you, and I feel like, you know, you deserved a big intro. You deserve a big pop for being back. I appreciate it. I'm glad to have you. I mean, do you want to, you can get, you can introduce me if you want to. Ladies and gentlemen. Returning from redacted and redacted, it's Forbes 30 under 30, a.k.a. New York Game Awards nominated, a.k.a.

1:02back in the gym after five days off by Sepp Poppy. It was so hard being away. Blessing Addy Oye Jr. It was so hard.

1:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And now I know how much of an addiction the gym is. Yeah. Because I'm away. I'm out of town for five days. They have them in hotels, you know. And I went to one of them, actually, in the hotel. So the first redacted, you can actually say, because Beasts of Reincarnation, the embargo is up. Previews are out. We're going to do our preview right after this on Kind of Funny Games. Wow. That hotel that I stayed in for that did have a gym. Yeah. And it was nice. It was hot in that gym, though. I couldn't stay for very long. Gotcha. It was a good time. Was it hot on purpose, like hot yoga, or was it just like something's wrong?

1:37Blessing Adeoye Jr.:It was just hot in L.A. this weekend. Oh, sure, sure, sure. The thing is. And then, not related to what it redacted, after going to L.A. for some previews, I then went to Chicago for the weekend just to hang out with old friends. there just no Italian beefs and hot dogs well that was the thing is like I man I should not book hotels for myself because I'll always book the most like the brokest ass hotel and so no this hotel did not have a gym in fact the last day I woke up in this hotel I saw a little bug no and I was like no not like this bed bugs it didn't look like a bed but I never seen a bed bug before I've been privileged enough to have seen bed bug before it was in your bed though it was in my bed that's the kind of shit you take to your grave it looks like that no it did not look like that.

2:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:No, it did not look like that. It didn't look harmful, but it did have me like, ah, shit. I was in this bed for two to three days. Yeah, Jesus. I don't like this at all. Describe the bug to me. It was probably like a little bit bigger than that. Well, this isn't to scale. Yeah, sure. Oh, is that big? Yeah, it was this big, but it was also like skinny. It wasn't like thick. Oh, was it a silverfish? A silverfish? It's one that I could, I mean, it could be a silverfish. Hold on. That's what a silverfish looks like. No, no, it was not like that. Okay. No, it was like, I don't know. It didn't look like that scary of a bug like its features were thin in a way where i was like i wasn't that bothered okay what color uh it was like a it was like almost like a dark green oh or like a light it was like maybe just an inchworm the inchworm caterpillar like no how many legs it was probably like four legs antennas maybe green is it may be like a black but like a faded black almost like faded toward the green okay you know what i mean okay not this it wasn't giant grasshopper it was not that big cockroach it might have just been a roach okay like it's like a little roach yeah i mean it was like a little cockroach aside from that here we got a whole we got a whole plethora of what they look like there i hate a roach i hate a roach so much but i mean the german one kind of looks like what you're describing the one on the top right looks closest brown banded brown banded that might have been it we're getting it pulled up here for you yeah it wasn't a bed bug though okay but yeah actually no this is see even this is too thick now i'm looking at these pictures it's too no no it was like it wasn't a manageable bug it wasn't that crazy of a bug okay well god be with you thank you god be with you don't bring bread maybe yeah maybe it was a skinny one of these ones because now we're getting close either way i didn't like it but i was all my way out so i was like hey i don't have to sleep here anymore sure yeah yeah the damage is done or whatever i'm free yeah i'm free i don't have bites on me or anything like that um while i was in chicago i want to shout out two things that are gaming related one i went to the pokemon field museum the fossil thing the fossil thing yeah how was that pokemon fossil museum was awesome it was not what i expected i don't know what i expected okay i just thought it was gonna be oh here's a bunch of pokemon and they're like their histories or whatever sure what specifically it was was there's like a a category pokemon that are fossil pokemon slash prehistoric pokemon and so this entire um exhibit was identifying each of those pokemon and what they're inspired off of because every single fossil pokemon has an equivalent even like in pokemon blue slash red you can find the helix fossil or like the amber stone or whatever those are based off of real fossils like specific fossils and so they would show you the model of the pokemon like a life-size thing yeah and then they would show you this the model of the thing that's inspired way to do it by yeah and like it's a fun way for kids to learn about you know this pokemon that they love but then also hey here's a real life thing that is basically what this thing is so it's kind of it was really cool to see those things side you throw those fossil pokemon back up there no kid loves these guys what no i love kabutops in the top left the evolved one i like that guy a lot i don't know about all that you don't fuck with erudactyl he's fine erudactyl sick as hell erudactyl's really cool you know what i mean but you're gonna put any of those up next to a gengar nobody's gonna give a shit about these guys that's fair i mean but like i'm just saying i'm just saying like when if a kid shows up to the pokemon museum exhibit they're expecting a skeleton of pikachu they do they want to see evie cut in half and see all the organs and stuff they do have like an i think it's called like excavator pikachu or something yeah pikachu and of course they do of course they do yeah you can't not have them there oh yeah so like you're not gonna see him rest in peace samuel samuel samuel samuel samuel dr grant from jurassic park died oh sam neal i see yeah r.i.p um so that was the first thing i did yeah this is this guy and look he even dresses just like sam neal in jurassic park they know what's up oh yeah the second thing i did was went to a spot called Activate Games.

6:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Have you heard of this? No. Activate Games is basically, think like an escape room mixed with laser tag. Okay. It's all like, it's a bunch of like almost arcade style games where you're put into a room. The rooms are either filled with light up LED walls or like lasers in them. Okay. And you're dodging the lasers. There's one game that has like, there's one room that has floors lava. And so you're standing on these green tiles on the floor and then some of the tiles will light up red and you have to like dodge the red yeah move around dodge the red tiles one of one of the favorite ones i did was the room of lasers you essentially have to like metal gear solid style stealth your way to the opposite side of the room yeah but each round the lasers will be doing different things and so in one of the rounds the lasers were filled up like the top half of the room so you had to like kneel down and like crawl to the other side and then other ones will be like you have to follow it because now they're like vertical and just all moving in one direction so now you're like falling behind it felt like playing a video game in real life oh yeah yeah it was a the kind of thing i would see on tiktok but never actually went yeah never actually good and my friend abby recommended like yo let's go to this thing it was a blast where were you in town for chicago why were you just hanging out okay yeah i was what were you in town for chicago no i have a friend abby grow um from champagne growing up we just met up in chicago to hang out it's like one of those things where i see her once every few years yeah yeah yeah it was a nice time hell yeah great but enough about all that enough about all that let's talk about video game news because remember if you're watching live you can be a part of the show by super chatting in over on youtube.com slash kind of funny games remember we couldn't do this without our producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you to carl jacobs omega buster delaney the song twining and lax nomad for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news we have six stories today a baker's dozen starting with our number one god of war lauvae studio hints at a 2027 release window following tweet that assures players it will be available on disc i'm reading from vicky blake at euro gamers euro gamers plural euro gamers they've rebranded we represent all of the euro gamers they've had one more gamer in europe we may not know the precise release date of the upcoming God of War Laufey, but a new tweet suggests we'll get it before the end of 2027.

8:50Blessing Adeoye Jr.:In a tweet shared over the weekend, presumably to quieten? To quieten? You're over there. This is Eurogamer. Have you seen this word before? You know what? I learned a long time not to say anything about the words that I see. Q-U-I-T-E-N. I assure you. I mean, it's probably a real British-y thing. You know what I mean? Or a real Europe-y thing. Presumably to quieten is a verb meaning to make or become calmer quiet or less intense okay in order to quieten the backlash around sony's shock news that it is halting physical media as of january 2028 god of war developer santa monica studio revealed the next god of war game will be available on disc that is quote well this while this clearly isn't a specific date by telling us that god of war lave will be available on disc the studio is hinting that we'll get it before sony halts production on discs which is currently slated for january 2028 uh the tweet reads quote uh we can confirm god of war laufe will be available on disc doug doug doug doug doug doug doug doug greg is this confirmation no of course not no it is and it isn't this is the same thing we see all the time every time if you're new around here sony santa monica's social media person said that it's going to be on disc they have the best it's barrett why are you barking at barrett cole you know him these dogs uh says hey yeah of course it's going to be on there because this is the plan and the plan is the plan until it's not the plan when if hopefully not god of war slips until 2020 you know 2028 do you expect that no but i'm saying if it did then guess what we got a big problem we got a big fucking problem to figure out i imagine as we've heard from jason and a bunch of other rumors, right?

10:33That isn't going to happen. We're far along on this project. They're pretty much ready to pull it and be ready to go on it, right? So then, no, it'll be fine. It'll be next year and everybody will be happy.

10:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You don't think there's going to be, like, any holdovers? Because certainly there are going to be games that get delayed from 2027 into 2028. Yeah. If you have disc plans, you're not just going to cut off the disc plans, right? Well, again, like, where we get into it is this is PlayStation talking about PlayStation to start with, right? Yeah. So it's like, we'll see what they are, where they're going to go. Like, I think, yeah, will there be bleedovers? yes this is a very weird cutoff thing but i think from playstation in particular sony first party we're making this decision we're saying no more playstation games or we're the ones making playstation games yeah whatever sucker punch is working on they have to be like no discs for this and i you know i mean and also i think we kind of get into the weeds of like that is such a not late game decision but such a down the line decision for a different department of playstation where i really don't think sucker punch sony etc are sitting there worrying about are we going to make the disc cut off maybe ours fans but if they're even if they were worried about the collector's edition which i'm assuming they are they're worried about not the disc just the steel book thing right like again we're into a conversation and a worry here that i don't think is on the front lines this isn't what you know i'm a developer right now on god of war i'm a developer on sucker punch i'm a god of war on i'm a developer on polyphony's next game right My concern isn't that because basically if we miss whatever the cutoff is, the boxes go out with a code in them.

12:04We get kind of lost in this conversation thinking like, boom, it's over. There's nothing. PlayStation is still printing the fucking boxes and they are just deciding if they're putting in a code or if they're putting in a disc. And so is there going to be bleed over? Honestly, no. Like where it gets weird is the third parties and everybody else. That's the main thing I was thinking of more so.

12:23Blessing Adeoye Jr.:right but like even if for a god of war at lalve for example i think you're right as far as this is playstation and it's playstation that is saying hey we're not gonna we're not doing discs after january 2028 i just think if you're if the game gets delayed and the plan was already in the works for this thing to have discs like i guess maybe it's just more so of a thing of what is that process like to shift over like if we're talking about a game that is planned for let's say october and it gets pushed to february for example is that enough for you to go ah well we we said we're not doing discs after january so we're gonna roll back on this thing or do you just say well fuck it like you know people want discs anyway like let's just release this one we'll have this be the last hurrah for a game that comes out with discs on it i think you know we have to get uh behind closed doors with herman and see what the actual timeline of playstation releases looks like on that end and where if what are we actually talking about for things that are targeting october versus february and how much it shakes out because and then also then we're into a very different conversation of okay let's say you had planned to produce these discs for october yada yada yada so we're printing those what we go gold usually a month before but the disc is being printed so it's like let's just say a month and a half two months before if it is like you're building up to that and you have to make that call what is the actual penalty for canceling that order is that money already gone how much do you lose on the deposit for your place in line to print those discs that's the other big part you know i mean and again this is playstation dealing with Sony printing the discs, so it's not as, I'm sure, severe, but you are delaying the production of other Blu-rays, whatever they may be, because you have your place in line for what you're trying to do in your order.

13:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. So it really, I think, comes down again to brass tacks, bubbles, and the spreadsheet people of how much are we losing. I think, as we've seen overall, PlayStation doesn't care about the public reaction to this. They know what they're doing is better for their bottom line, so they're pushing it through no matter what. And so when you get to, what do they put did they still do the last hurrah yeah probably if it if it was going to be that we're going to lose more money by canceling the order and not doing this then we'll do that but i don't think they'd make a big deal that it's the last hurrah i think it would just be we've been delayed and there'll be a similar thing are you gonna have discs like you said yeah we'll yeah i imagine like i imagine it's more so of a if it got delayed how far into the year is it getting delayed because i don't imagine i don't imagine on december the end of december 31st 12 12 a.m hits yeah and herman holst kicks down the door and it's like everybody stop it's like a big like it's like the boom the presses are all powering down they were in the middle of printy discs or stop they're thrown away i just imagine the playstation ceo and herman and like all the higher-ups they walk in with flamethrowers and they're like it's done like we're burning the shit to the ground no more discs and again like to that point right of course like these factories are still existing it wasn't just a playstation blu-ray factory it's a sony blu-ray factory for the discs they're still making for movies and etc and third parties and whatever the hell yeah i imagine it's like more so of an ongoing process or not ongoing process but a process of all right this shit is shutting down finish the projects we have over the course i just think with playstation first party production being what it is i doubt we have at most we have a game in the danger zone of like we're targeting fall 2020 and even if it is that of like we're targeting fall 2027 oh my god we might push or whatever that's back to this of just like with all due respect to the sony santa monica social person i'm sure you have the plan of it being on disc but i just don't think playstation doesn't give a shit they don't care like they're gonna lock this in like this is bible truth so i want to talk about this tweet because you talk about the social the um social media person right like does a tweet like this not come from people who are more in authority at at sony santa monica with all due respect to this person no really no i mean you know social media people at all these different studios and stuff like that yeah but i would think that's something like this where it is you're confirming you're confirming something about the game that leads people to believe oh this is when it's coming out like they've not said when this game is coming out they've not said a year that this which is why is it still up i'm surprised it's still up to be honest now granted once the genie's out of the bottle what are you going to do we're strizan affecting it by deleting and taking it down it's like whatever because my thing also is this is you're you're saying this you're saying we can confirm god of war laufe will be available on disc you're saying it in response to a tweet that has nothing to do with that like the tweet is about a panel that's happening at san diego comic-con yeah and you're replying to that with no context of we can confirm god of war laufe will be available disc i imagine the context there is i'm sure if you click into this tweet all of the replies are saying disc disc disc so and it's also the thing like you know as soon as they announced this panel uh marvel token fighting and of course naomi's wolverine panel all the comments i saw were go protest go peacefully protest i can't wait for the q a which of course there will be none on these but you know what i mean like playstation is bracing for we're going to do these panels and people are going to be there might be if some people who are jerks in the pan the thing about it i mean yeah i think they're in that grand don't be wrong protests are great i'm just saying voicing in a way that distracts from what they're trying to do with their marketing campaign materials and so to your point yeah here it is is from sony santa monica we're doing the panel and then everything is just just just you got to pop in there and say that and do that or you don't have to yeah i was gonna say you definitely don't have that's but again like they've not been i would tell my thought on the matter would be that you say does it come with some level of authority i would not be surprised if whoever the social media person is who did this went to whoever not cory but like somebody up the chain who is higher and said hey is this okay and i imagine they said yeah fuck yeah do it now i imagine that someone hired them in the chain has come down i'm like what the fuck man from playstation i don't know not head of sony santa monica because that's where i'm at where i think for sure the social person that tweeted this i think they would have to talk to somebody that's higher than them to be like hey we'll make sure that this is yeah 100 i don't think you fire off at the hip of yeah this is coming on a disc because you're confirming something about the game yeah that is not that hasn't been official yet yeah and so like i i think that you want to get with the belt?

18:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:What about the belt? Hold on. I'm going to use my bad dog voice. Oh, bad, bad dog. Go to bed. Oh, go to your bed. Oh, wow. He's really bad dog behavior. Oh, he crawled right into bed. Wow. I rule with an iron fist around here. We've had enough. These dogs are going to be part of the community. They're going to be part of the team. We love that. We love them being around. Everybody kisses him. I've never seen Barrett happier than when he's kissing Chip. So it's like, but they got to get their shit together. All right. I've had it with it. We're talking about God of War. We're talking about PlayStation.

18:47God of War conversation. Yes, this went up. I think you go up to a superior. Yeah. But I do think PlayStation has channeled back to these people of like, what the fuck?

18:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Because my thing is, now that we're reading into a tweet, store number one, we're here. We're hanging out, right? We're having a good time. I love Games Daily and I missed you. I look at this as like, actually, I'll ask you a question. Does this do anything for how we feel about how the PlayStation studios think about the decision? because this does feel like you're going AWOL a little bit. Yeah. I mean, I think, so does it give a window into the studios? Of course, but I imagine it's a window as clear as glass. We already knew, right? Like, imagine you work fucking years on a project. You're just trying to make the best game fucking possible.

19:38You get there, you get it out. Hooray, people are going to be stoked. Of course not. It stars a woman. man. Oh my God. You have to deal with that bullshit, which you studied and steeled yourself for. Well, weather the storm. We know we're making a great game. That's fantastic. Okay, cool. We're a little bit past that. We're about to have this big moment of a God of war panel. And I believe it's hot. Is it? No, no. Naomi's is in hall H. I don't think they're in hall H. I've got a war panel. You got Jack, you got Corey, you have create like Christopher judge. You have a Deborah and wool, right? Like everyone is there.

20:09It's the whole fucking, this is a big moment. And right before that, Sony shits the fucking bed To the point that every tweet Except for those weird Call of Duty ones Every tweet and every story And every blog post is infected by this shit Like that's gotta be maddening You know what I mean To a similar point when Andy talks about working here And he's so happy and he loves the content we make And we make great stuff And then he goes on a random Reddit And they're mad because I said something about PC Gamers Five years ago You know what I mean I fucking did that to y 'all I'm sorry that's how it's gotta be you know but it's a similar thing here i'm just like fuck we're just trying to make something cool and so yeah to come out here and do this i'm sure to some level it is a wall and to some level it is just the airing of grievances they're just like letting a little bit of the steam out of the kettle yeah which yeah then comes i do think comes back like what are you guys doing like that clearly

20:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:we didn't want you to say that kind of thing yeah but again it's like in the grand scheme of things we this is story number one on games daily but it's what i always talk about like the amount of people who are paying attention to playstation god of war you know we're so small the the core gamer audience that's this dialed in online is so small for which part just the god of war part or like that like whenever you're in a storm and this kind of thing where something's blowing up online it can feel like everyone in the fucking world is paying attention to this when in reality 90 of the audience if not 90 for 5 of the audience at comic-con is gonna have no idea this tweet went out they have no idea when for the god exactly but playstation right now is probably mad acting like everyone you just ruined the release date and yeah and that's why yeah that's why i'm coming at because yeah there's a there was some chat earlier that was saying like man slow news days we're reading into a tweet for story number one to be clear like one of playstation's biggest games we don't know when it's actually coming this is the most confirmation we've gotten of when god of war lava is coming out and i but i'm choosing to read into this part one because i like continuing the conversation about the playstation disc stuff because i don't think we should move past it so quickly.

22:03Blessing Adeoye Jr.:So that's why I choose to analyze that more so than like, we also all assume that the game is coming out next year. Yeah. I don't think that's a surprising thing, but you know, that is what the news is. I think this is fascinating as far as, Oh, this is a great, the studios also don't fuck with the fact that these games are coming, are not coming to disc anymore. That's the thing that we're all united on. And, you know, in talking, I know you're talking about this specific tweet being a small portion of the audience seeing this. It is, it's been very interesting to me seeing how, many people are have paid attention to and um are involving themselves in the conversation of playstation not doing discs anymore like this is mainstream news right this is something that i know twitter isn't a good and i'll be all as far as how to analyze what a conversation is but that's the tweet where playstation said we're not doing this anymore isn't like the top three gaming tweets of all time as far as interactions and no you're seeing a lot of great think pieces right now and you are seeing it break through to more uh not video game centered entertainment coverage of like movies are still on disc this is still on music's back on disc why are games gonna knock me on disc like there is a conversation about what's going on here and why it's happening yeah um yeah i'm fascinated to see how this conversation i agree so let's stick here because it is a fascinating conversation you ever said some shit in the thing fucking go fuck off you fucker damn i'm not what about the belt go to bed that's a bad comment sir that's a bad comment Go to your bed.

23:29Do you think. Toe consoles. God of War. Okay. Or Wolverine's panel is interrupted by a protest of note. Oh, because I think as somebody who's hosted a lot of Comic-Con panels, there's always a conversation with there's you do the rundown, you do the bullet points to blah, blah, blah. And then it is like, are we doing a Q and a right? And I think my money is on. No, you will not get a Q and a for any of these because of number one, like God of War is a stacked cast. you only have 55 minutes so no, no reason to do that Wolverine also has a ton of people on it, Tolkien I'm not super familiar with, but I'm going to say no, we're not going to do that because of this and so then, are any of these hosts and panels being prepped for?

24:08There might be somebody who stands up and starts screaming about discs and stuff like that.

24:12Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I hope honestly, I kind of hope that happens. I hope nobody gets on stage because that's a scary thing for people who are hosting this shit, right? Don't put people in danger, obviously, but I hope there is some kind of thing of a peaceful protest or something where it's like, oh shit, all right, we can't not pay attention to this. This panel is happening, and yeah, somebody from the audience or the entire audience starts chanting, you know, no disc, no play, or some bullshit like that. I hope this is a thing they continue to get backlash about. Not that I think they'll change direction, but I think anything's possible.

24:45We have a story coming up about bullying a giant fucking corporation to stop being assholes.

24:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, and I do think that if we don't let up, there is a chance. There is the smallest chance. that that could happen yeah so i kind of hope it happens but i don't know what do you think do you think it'll happen i think it will happen i don't think my question is how organized it is that's always the the achilles heel to these kind of protests because i think if you've never been to comic-con hall h is humongous i've been lucky enough to be in it several times and host several times but i mean like you're talking to like what feels like multiple football fields of people yeah so if you're trying to make an impact there you would need like you're saying at least 20 people ready to chant this thing.

25:24Otherwise, it's going to be a... Anyways, what do you think? I mean, by the time security grabs that person. Security's going to get them before Jack Quaid has any idea what they're saying. So it's like that kind of thing. Oh, is Jack Quaid on stage? He's on stage for God of War. Which isn't in Hall H. I would have put it on. I don't know why.

25:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You got Jack Quaid. Put it in Hall H. Come on. What are we talking about? Which one is in Hall H out of these? Wolverine is for sure. I want to say... Let's just open the blog post, all right? This went live the other day. Here we go. get ready for San Diego Comic-Con. So Marvel's Wolverine, Hall H, Marvel, Tocan, Fighting Souls, Hall H, and then God of War, Laufei's Ballroom 20. Okay. And I assume Debra and Wolfe's there as well. Yeah. Yeah. You have the whole, I can read it. Here's the thing, right? Because I know I just said, I want something to happen, right? Well, my question was, do you think it's going to happen?

26:12You're the one saying, I want it. We're trying to will it to happen.

26:15Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm trying to will it to happen. But I also, I love Debra and Wolfe and Jack Quaid so much. So like, there's that part of me that's like oh man that'll be so awkward that'll be so awkward that i don't really want it to happen to them but like hey it is what it is yeah god of war god of war uh get active people game director ariel lawrence santa monica studio head creative uh head of creative cory barlog lead an in-depth conversation with the cast including deborah and wool lafay chris judge kratos jack quaid frank and uh pralina lao rue for the first time since the game's reveal panelists will share new details about how the heroes of the god of war lafay including behind the scenes insights from development and performance capture that brings them all to life.

26:52Then meanwhile, over on Wolverine, we're not just scratching the surface, we're cutting through it. Insomniac Games' creative director, Marcus Smith, game director, Mike Daly, narrative director, Walt Williams, and senior project director, Jess Reiner Reid, are joined by actors, Liam McIntyre, Wolverine, and Krizia Bowes. Well, Jean Grey, but of course, from Control. I shouldn't know how to say her name yeah along with executive producer eric monticelli uh from uh marvel games to unveil exciting new details from the highly anticipated blah blah blah of course the most importantly moderated by media personality naomi kyle oh yeah good for naomi and then yeah for same thing for toe consoles game producers are here localization director senior marvel games universe development team is joined by an artist for you know josh keaton's going to be there so big panels but yeah i'll be interested to see if the movement is able to organize in a way that actually makes an impression at this or if it is just going to be everybody wants to enjoy the game which is you know we're back and forth on this stuff all the time of like how do you express your outrage but also still enjoy the hobby but then also do this thing and then again like to be clear like the conversation we're having right now about the panel is so exactly the fucking tweet conversation we just had.

28:13Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. Like, you know, how is this inside the developers? The developers just want to make fucking awesome shit. The cast who worked on this game for years in secrecy, Jack Quaid, mega video game nerd fan, just wants to be on Holly H and tell you about how cool this is. And so when you go there and you voice your concerns and if you're going to scream and protest in it, like, yeah, it's going to be incredibly awkward if that happens. And then also it's not really at all affecting the people who made the decision it's just putting this on these people but again when you only give one outlet to actually make your voice heard like yeah it's a whole thing let's bring in some super chats for you street shadow 20 writes in it says wait are we assuming si didn't know slash uh given okay for santa monica to say they're printing on disc yes cletus hamwater right i mean we can go deeper into it i mean like you know it's like i think you look at how buttoned up the playstation accounts are because that is an in-house playstation person who is running those things who are going through approvals, who are doing X, Y, and Z.

29:10And I think then you go, I mean, you can think, of course, as PlayStation as the mother ship. Then you have these satellite organizations that are the different developers that have their own structure, their own teams, yada, yada. You go far enough down those chains and I'm not insulting social media professionals. Like that's a real job, but I also know that it's not the one that comes with the most gravitas sometimes in respect and of course power. So yeah, I think you are into a thing where it's like they want to say this and they go up a level and the person's like, yeah, this fucking sucks.

29:36Go ahead and say it. we might get some heat. I'll take it. You'll whatever. And it is that thing of like, I've heard it from several different studios. Occasionally it takes Sony out of it ever of like, yeah, the big parent fucking mothership gets mad or whatever. And you go, I'm so sorry. It's the ask forgiveness rather than permission. We're so sorry. But one, you know, they're not really mad. Nobody's really getting slapped on the hand. Nobody's getting fired over this tweet.

29:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. It is saying what they want. And again, trying to diffuse a situation that frankly, isn't Santa Monica's fault. Santa Monica wants their fucking moment. They don't want to hear about it. We did look at how great this panel is. Fuck you. Discs. We didn't do the disc. We didn't do it. We'll give you a disc. Fucking be mad at the official PlayStation. But there's so much. There's no way to separate that. And again, if these are the accounts that are saying stuff, these are the accounts that are going to get it. PlayStation goes quiet for a week until, you know, one thing it's like, so again, just protesting at the fucking Comic-Con at Comic-Con hurt PlayStation.

30:36I mean, no it really hurts the thing but then it makes your point known and then it's all your point known yeah it gets you it is the whole thing of like we keep saying like are is that is there going to be a way to change this is there a way to fix this right it's like if you take a foot off the gas if the movement that's happening right now in the anger people have right now when you lay down and accept it then you've accepted it and so yeah like it's a really shitty situation for everybody involved except for the people who are taking away the things you want what's up barrett it is a point of disruption uh i would say and like maybe like you you don't agree with that but that's what protests are and i think uh this being one of the few avenues where people can actually disrupt like right i don't disagree with the methods i i do question a little bit of like this is the thing that people are going to organize around instead of all of the million of other horrible things uh much more horrible things happening in this industry oh yeah well people are

31:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:or selfish is really what it comes down to. The Dish thing affects the people who play video games, whereas BDS, for example, right? I know you've been beating the drum on the Xbox Microsoft thing. What about the belt? What about the belt? He doesn't know the belt, sadly. He just knows my voice. He's got to be like the ch-ch. That got me wild. We just went to bless this child. We went to my child. He's fucking nerding out about Donkey Kong. Shut up over there. and do the dishes it's like really the dishes that's what we're doing this about um but yeah like i think gamers are selfish right and so i i do think it takes selfish causes to actually make people do shit which sat which saddens me right and and damn it's now i'm in school oh my goodness you're being bad now too bad dogs go to bed everybody go to bed uh to bounce off of that really quick bless um i think if the direct action is more so focused around uh playstation and sony's um attempt for more control over a market i think i understand that i feel like a lot of the sentiment i get uh or i've seen at least is i want a physical thing rather than talking about that stuff so i don't know maybe this uh maybe what people are talking about like organizing around a protest is coming more from that place.

32:51I don't know, but yeah.

32:53Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Let's bring in another Super Chat. Let's see here. Let's see here. Let's see here. Motor World Hype writes in and says, sorry if you addressed this already, but what do you think the chances are that all major retailers band together and say, if you don't make physical games, we don't sell your console? I think that's very low, just for the state of where we're at as far as what retailers are left. I think GameStop is the one that gets damaged the most because GameStop is a video game retailer. And so when you take away... Aw. So cute. Now they're in timeout with me. When you take away the physical...

33:27Right into the microphone. He's fucking Rorschach-ing. You're not trapped in here with me. I think GameStop has the most to lose

33:34Blessing Adeoye Jr.:out of all the retailers. But also, it's like, what's GameStop going to do? Yeah, I don't see it happening. You know what I mean? Like, I think there's still money to be made here. I think, you know, I think the video game... sections shrink even more than they already have. I got the, you know, the nostalgia post of like, here's what it used to look like in the 20, you know, the two thousands and these like amazing walls of intricate things and cool displays versus now you walk by and it's like literally they're printing out box arts and putting them in the little thing. I guess sucks. You know what I mean?

Read the full transcript

34:04It doesn't, I think it'll keep shrinking that way, but I don't think they're going to cut it out altogether. It's still too big of an industry for that, but we will see how much the boxes cost and where we go and all that jazz. But we're a ways away. I feel from a Walmart a Target being like we're no we're not doing this anymore

34:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:especially because Playstation still sell now when we get to the next generation if you see that dip in console sales maybe there's something there as far as being like just buy this shit from Playstation directly because we're losing more money now from Playstation than we were making before but that's a thing we'll have to tackle in the future once we get there speaking of the future we're going to talk about story number two in the future but for now I want to talk to you about patreon.com slash kind of funny and youtube.com slash kind of funny games where you can go and get the kind of funny membership which allows you to get shows ad free and speaking of ads let us tell you about our sponsors this week we're sponsored by patreon.com slash kind of funny because it's patreon pledge month if you enjoyed the crazy amount of sgf coverage we put out in june consider tossing us a few bucks this month with a patreon membership or upgraded pledge for july patreon members receive perks like ad free audio and video versions of every show access to quips a twitter-like equivalent with posts from Greg and a daily exclusive episode of Gregway.

35:52Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And we're back. With story number two, EA removes microtransactions from EA Sports College Football 27 following backlash. This is Sophie McAvoy at gamesindustry.biz. Electronic Arts has removed microtransactions from EA Sports College Football 27 in response to feedback from players and content creators. The developer acknowledged it had missed the mark with the introduction of paid progression options in its Road to Glory and Dynasty single-player modes. Previous titles allowed players to use experience modifiers to level up faster. These were replaced with microtransactions ranging from$10 to$150.

36:26Blessing Adeoye Jr.:According to IGN, content creators stated that microtransactions were not disclosed before launch and were absent from previews. Quote, This was added independent of deeper mode progression, with the aim to give players more choice, but what you've said is that they're not adding the value we intended, said EA. They continued, quote, Our goal for live service plans in College Football 28 and beyond will be deliver valuable features and content with greater transparency and communication, end quote. It's not yet clear if refunds will be provided to those who have already purchased in-game currency.

36:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:EA noted that an unfortunate side effect of removing the paid regression content means that players that have college point balances in their wallets will now not be able to apply the balances in Road to Glory or Dynasty. End quote. Greg? Yeah. Was this something that was in your world as somebody who plays college football? Oh yeah. I mean it was on Games Daily last week too where yeah you know the outcry about this was loud and fast in terms of the audience being like we're going to review bomb this shit and we're not going to stand for it. Which is back to what we're talking about obviously with PlayStation disc stuff but something we see all the time with EA of course we can bring them into it and I'm a little murky I know people hate ultimate team and yada yada but I'd go obviously way back to NBA 2k and then of course WWE 2k as they have you know taken those 2k monetization or the NBA 2k monetization that everybody hates but Mike still buys and everybody apparently buys and then started applying that to WWE where there's been similar outcry should have happened but for them to do it with EA college football and the college football fans be like fuck you and then to back down like it's crazy where it's you know my neighbor is a doctor an actual adult you know what i mean and years ago we were talking he's like oh man i used to love you know playing games and i play college football and so when but we came back two years ago right yeah two years ago two three games ago now i gave him a playstation i gave that i had bumming around and i gave him the disc and he's like oh or the code you know uh and so then i you know for this one around i got it for him again and i was like here you go you know what i mean he's like how is it I'm like I've played it and I me and Ben did a game together it's great you know the visuals the sound it's you know as always improving on each other but I'm like everybody hates there's this monetization city's like oh fuck he's like I hope I don't have to spend money I'm like well you don't have to blah blah especially for how you're gonna play it you don't even very casually yeah and then I sent him this fucking here's the screenshot of them taking it all down don't worry about it you're fine get in there right he's like oh great so he's super excited that it happened hell yeah but yeah it made it made the rounds it did the thing and again it's like, it's great to see again.

38:59Like, let's go back to what we're talking about with like, how did the developers feel about this? Nobody making this game set off to be like, we want to put in these modifiers and make them be paid. And we're, we're going to make it grindy on this front. So like they did that because of course EA was like, where's the money,

39:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:make the money live service. It needs to have money. And so they went, fuck. All right, let's do it this way. Well, so like, I'm sure there were several meetings where they were like, this is a bad idea, but this is how we'll do it. We shouldn't do this and like make the money. And so for them to get, Hey motherfuckers, see how stupid this was. We have a passionate audience for this game that has been, they waited more than a decade for it. Now we're back to doing it annually. They're buying it and loving it. Don't make us fuck with it this way. Yeah. We've been so back for the last couple of years.

39:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. This is going to be the thing that fucks up our reputation. Yeah. And sure enough, you end up getting there. Thank God you take, you take it out. Do you think when we get to, cause what's been, I guess I was going to ask what the game awards conversation usually is for college football but i feel like it's not included because it's such a u.s based thing and yeah i think the jury is so international for game awards that yeah you know college football doesn't really get the yeah that year one i remember i i mean correct me if i'm wrong year one i think it didn't make the cut and you like were very miffed about it but everybody was like well it's only u.s i'm like i get that maybe it doesn't matter anyway but like do you think in the long run we're in a good place with college football as far as what the conversation is around it like do you think people are going to remember this game for the microtransaction stuff or do you think this this fixes i mean i think they'll remember it for this moment that they did it and then they walked it back which i think is that you know again like in this industry plagued by capitalism and suits and shareholders and stuff like this is a win for player first decisions developers getting to make the game they want to make now does that resonate when we do college football 28 you know what i mean no they're like take it out and then redefine it for next year how can we do it how can we get money from them next year and saudi arabia is going to come and to be like what's college football uh so who knows what the longevity of it is but i think again to what we're talking about like they are feeding a very specific diehard dedicated audience that is selling units like you know what i mean even last year when it was annualized and it was back it's still sold incredibly well and so you imagine this one's selling incredibly well too and so the fact they're able to step up and make this decision to make them back down make ea go okay fine fuck take it out hell yeah story number three it software plays down impact of layoffs insists it still has enough staff to make games in tech this is andy robinson at video games chronicle its software has played down the impact of this week's layoffs at the studio claiming that it still has the crew we need to build the games in tech we're known for in its first public response since news broke that around 100 workers have lost their jobs the doom and quake developer claimed that its remaining team is about the size as when it shipped doom 2016 well thank you for all the support this week while our studio was impacted those changes were spread across teams we still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we're known for.

41:54Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The team today is about the same size we were when making Doom 2016. We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward. The statement continues, We are focused on supporting each other and the team members impacted. We're going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we're looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon this August." According to The Verge reporter Tom Warren, id is now in the early stages of developing a new game, which fits with Xbox's mandate of focusing on its biggest franchises.

42:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:id's public response follows claims from a laid-off developer that it had been nuked into the dirt and relegated to support studio size following this week's sweeping Xbox layoffs. Derek Best, a former VFX artist at id, who has worked on all three modern Doom games, published a lengthy post on LinkedIn saying, He was, quote, in shock at how brutal the layoff cuts were. Quote, collectively decades of knowledge was wiped out of the studio, he claimed. The VFX team was eliminated down to one single artist with no lead or producer. The engine programmer responsible for the massive gains and VFX pipeline improvements, like all the particle editor work, was let go as well.

43:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:He added, great job, Microsoft. nothing says business success like nuking a team into the dirt and relegating them to support studio size while also throwing out massive technological achievements and quote we talked a little bit about this uh at the end of games daily on friday of course barrett is always spoiling the fucking punchline because this is if you missed it then barrett had this great bs that's a blue sky tim of xbox watching it write this and it's them when louise uh susan sarandon with the rape gun to the rapist said you know what i mean of like you have to back to everything we've said here right where it's like nobody i'm sure they're wanting to write this it's it's a little push and pull because you want to obviously be like we're not fucked thank you all for asking it's not the end of the world this still sucks but to then end it with like the we're looking forward to seeing you at quake cone this august it's like okay you're not a human you're not that's like how can i tell and this isn't let's use like positive let's use ai like the terminator ai not like a like that's how i'd be like well you're a cyborg no human being would be like it's a been a really rough week all of our friends have been laid off but we can still make the game and i can't wait to but have you have you bought your quake con ticket yeah it's very much the equivalent of like if i walked into work it's like my eyes are red and i had tears coming down you're like bless you good and i'm like i'm great why do you like you don't look so good i'm like no nothing no no I tripped on the way here.

44:34Yeah, exactly. So it's like such a bummer. It was, I think, not. It was a tone deaf way to respond to everything that's going on. There is a way to draft a human response. I'll be like, we are sorry to see so many of our friends go. I'm spitballing here. I would be like perfect response right now. Go. Yeah, you know, we're sorry to see all of our friends go. This has been an incredibly rough week. Like, rest assured that the reports of the severity of layoffs or the team size are inaccurate. We're still going to be able to make video games the way we want to make video games, which I wouldn't believe either.

45:09Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But yeah, the part of we want to make. I think this feels like something you write because you want to reassure your audience to some extent of, hey, we're still going to make more Doom games. No, but yeah, you read it. And like, it's kind of like there's too much corpo speak in there. So much corpo speak. And then also just within I almost would have preferred no response of like, yeah, or just wait longer. 100%. No response. I think it would have been a better way to go about. Yeah, but I hope they're good. Like, I hope, I hope what they're saying is true. I hope we're able to get great Doom games and all this stuff.

45:35Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I obviously I've been out for, um, for most of last week. So I don't know where at when the conversation anymore, but like, you know, there's the, the, um, reports of the Doom or of the id software and other studios, uh, I guess I talked about it with Andy and we went off about it, but one thing I was thinking about while I was on my trip, which I wish I wasn't thinking about this stuff, but you know, we're always thinking about the industry and the video games and all this shit. right but like when you lay off that much of id software and also just a lot of these other studios that you're keeping and having them work on these bigger ips so much of it to me feels like you're not laying them off so that they can make quality games obviously but then if then it's like why are you gutting these teams like this and it feels to me like you're getting ready to sell the whole thing yeah we're making these numbers go up so we can just sell this thing and go hey you have doom it doesn't it's it doesn't cost as much to operate now but then like what does that doom look like yeah it doesn't matter to xbox or it doesn't matter microsoft i should say it'll matter whoever owns xbox down the road yeah yeah no you're 100 correct corrective like when you go through and you do this right you are cleaving these people to make the bottom line look better to make the shareholders go okay great they're riding the ship you know number goes up microsoft stock goes up after bad weeks and bad or bad months and bad years and bad returns and what this actually equates out to with a game who knows and what the scope is and again i think the thing that has rung true through so much of the reporting and the behind the scenes conversations here are these xbox studios really being in the fucking wind and being at the whim of all right cool we need you to make game pass award winners oh you're not selling enough well i was in the fucking you know what i I mean, like internally, whatever's happening, I hope the message from Xbox, which of course is the message from Microsoft is what, but it's clear.

47:23We need you to be making games that are shorter in cell, have, you know, shorter production cycles that can be manipulated into IP powerhouse. I don't know what they're saying, but I want there to be one fucking message that these studios are getting so that they have the right way to march. We're back to the theme of this episode of like, I don't think, you know, whether it's a live service thing or make a game quicker and faster, like when you come in with that, you can get excited about that, but that isn't the game you wanted to make. And now we're back to the conversations I was having all last week of like, you know, you go to these places, kind of have your dream put on hold, if not die.

48:01Whereas you're not going to any of these Xbox studios with your idea for like, I have the next great IP. You're going there now to be in the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom. you are in this pipeline and you can make really cool shit there but you're not going to rock the boat we're not going to we're not going to redefine what any of these franchises mean you're going to make more of the same and hopefully feed that hunger that exists for those ip if it's there

48:23Blessing Adeoye Jr.:yeah to go chase it i just don't know how you even make a doom though like that's the that's the tough thing is you're right but also i don't you don't get another doom out of this out of this version of its software i guess you could get a doom but it's not going to be the follow-up to doom the dark ages it's not going to look the same so look better let's get radical with it right where it's like do you think a follow-up to doom the dark ages would be the right call and now we're very much of like i guess the right call in the current xbox ecosystem the current microsoft in the asha sharma reign yeah um would it be the right call i mean yeah i think doom does consistent like doom is a consistent franchise yeah the dooms are usually quality games out of all the xboxes um i guess ips and games they put out in the last few years doom seems like one of the ones that are actually on the side of no everybody likes this yeah i would say yes but then also i think the question isn't like whether or not they're going to do that because i think we it's pretty much i won't say confirmed but based off of all the reporting and us knowing what they're focusing on on here they're making no regardless of if it's the right decision or not they're gonna work on another doom yeah but here but i just don't know if you're gonna get there I think by that time You're talking about an Xbox That's owned by Elon Musk Or something like that Fucking shit I think that's I don't think that's gonna I think there's a chance That's gonna happen Don't even fucking put that out there Because they'll hear that And they'll just do it to spite us That's the kind of shit Yo, yeah Fucking, you know That's how he got me With this X bullshit Yeah Here's what I think You know It's hard to find numbers And do this stuff Especially live as we're going Right But I got This Doom The Dark Ages reportedly Sold less than a million copies Or whatever Is that true?

50:00You know Out of 3 million players Bragged about last week 2.2 are said to be playing on xbox this is from may 2025 here's what i would say if i'm asha and i'm looking at this in whatever i think that you've had if we're including the dlc right but you've had three cracks at it right oh no you have it doom doom eternal and doom dark ages right i think you've had three cracks at making doom be a powerhouse pillar of xbox everybody loves at IP, right? A lot of people like Doom. Doom is an incredibly quality game. I'm not at all doing that. It's not a game I care about, and that's not me. And I think there's a lot of people like me where it's appealing to a very specific audience, right?

50:41And I don't think it's reaping the reward of getting all this money. So you cut this team down. You say, now we need Dooms quicker and smaller. What I would tell them to do, and I'm sure people will hate this, but I would say, go make me a retro style Doom. Go give me a first-person shooter Doom that looks like the game you i i think of when i played doom and doom 2 on my pc my parents pc not as pixelated high quality h2d hd 2d but like you've done the three big triple a dooms and we've seen what the return on investment has been and it has not been that numbers have gone up even game pass i don't now i'm really outside i don't have stats in front of me or whatever right yeah but it doesn't feel like doom the sequels in the sequel have set the world and xbox on fire right so let's throw that away now and give me something that will look fresh bring in old doom heads bring in lapsed gamers who remember old doom bring in the people who like the dooms you've already had and know it software has the shit together yeah and make it quick i don't know about that i i think there's

51:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:more people that are i think the sales potential is also always remember too like i'm never saying on making the right decision sure sure i'll show xbox current but i think even on the financial side i just think there's more buy-in from the people that are into the modern doom iterations as opposed to going back to the well and like trying to revive old doom because modern doom it's funny to say this modern doom is more modernized than old doom i'm saying bringing all the modern you know the sure quality of life i just don't i i don't i don't know if that that's enough of a difference because i think the people who like old doom also like new doom and then also new doom brings in new people like i wasn't a doom head until doom 2016 and i was like oh this fantastic game right remember that um and i just don't think there's any i don't think there is any doom that gets us to i guess what you're talking about which is why you're saying make it smaller but like and i i two things i don't think there's any way to make doom into like a what a fallout is or what a call of duty is or any of that shit like i don't think that's even an option i think on the other option of making it smaller and making more of a throwback thing i don't think that's big enough either.

52:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I think Asha will look at that and go, ah, that's Penny's. We're making Call of Duty here. See, so the wrinkle that I left out of my conversation here is I don't think they're keeping Doom because they love the Doom game. I think they're keeping Doom because they love the Doom IP. Yeah. And they know it sells shirts and statues, mainly just to Rahul, but it does all these different things and there is plenty of, okay, we could get an animated Netflix show. We could do a live action movie again with The Rock, first person killer. Like you could do all these different things with it, but I think you also then need to be feeding the gamers and I think my thought would be if we're making a smaller you know more retro style doom that you can get out in two years i think the drop we'll see from people who bought these numbers you're still getting money you're still getting it out in the ip you're hopefully being mainstream to then partner with the decision and announcement of a movie done by honestly whatever i don't know i'm not mad at that at all because doom 2016 i still have such a love for that game yeah right doom eternal doom the dark ages especially they ramped that shit up graphics look insane all that shit yeah i would in theory be down for something that feels a bit more honed into like the doom 2016 scale yeah but i just don't i i i think you're right but i think asha is more so looking at it as like a hey we're we're leaning this chick this this meet up we're selling this shit like we're making this thing for sure desirable to saudi arabia or elon musk or whoever is going to be ready to buy xbox when like this is the most i believed in i forget who the creator was at the beginning of the year that I was talking about.

54:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:It seems like Asha's being hired to sunset this shit, right? Right into the sun. I've never believed that more than now. After seeing these layoffs for the teams that they're saying they want to focus in on their IP. It's like, well, if you want to focus in on Doom, I just don't, I don't think you do it with this small of a team because I also just don't think they're thinking the way you're thinking of, let's make this in a way that's really going to maximize this brand and make the game smaller, but also make them sell other. I just don't, I don't think they're on that level. We'll see. We shall see.

54:43Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Story number four. Also, where is this shirt from? I don't know. I got it. This is an eight-year-old shirt, nine-year-old shirt, maybe even more than that. I didn't know you love freedom this much. I think I got it. This ball of legal is going to fuck this shit up. July, you know what I mean? July 4th. Represent USA. Are we still in the World Cup? No? Oh, damn. Let me tell you about the World Cup. Dude, listen to you and Andy do games daily when you kept getting the updates on that team losing. I was fucking dying. Any team I root for has lost, like, immediately. as soon as they start rooting for a team they immediately lose again you should have known you're a bears fan this is how our lives are this is what happens so now i'm not even a bears fan i'm just from illinois i mean that's all it takes you heard that bears might be moving to oh yeah indiana yeah i'm well aware i didn't know this not indiana it's like sorry not indiana gary indiana yeah right across the thing there crazy yeah what are we doing um they're like well it's in the loop i'm like all right you know it's a loop adjacent i'm like all right i hate that shit So now that I know I have this curse, this is what I'm going to say.

55:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Go England. Let's bring it home. Yeah, bring it home, England. Let's bring it home. And let's go Spain, you know? Here's the thing, though. It's like there's nobody I can – like the teams that are left, I believe, are England, Spain, Argentina, and France. Yeah. So, like, I guess I'll root for – if I'm really rooting for somebody, maybe France because I like Mbappe. Okay. Maybe Argentina because I like Messi. But really, I don't have a horse in this race. so somebody's getting fucked go england sounds about right go england story number four ariel knight has announced a new game ariel knight's mr freezy of course shout out to ariel knight that's the homie right there play as a woman who's an axe wielding serial killer in this light-hearted puzzle game about decapitating men yep in new detroit authorities are hunting a serial killer they call mr freezy after hundreds of severed heads are discovered in hidden inside freezers across the city.

56:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Behind the murders is a mysterious woman kidnapping men and locking them away in her basement workshop. You don't play as the victims, you help prepare them. Move, swap, and line up heads perfectly so they can all be taken off in a single slice. Every move matters as you try to collect the most heads possible in the fewest number of turns. But the deeper you go, the stranger things become. I want to shout this out for a few reasons. Again, one, because I like Ariel Knight a lot. He's the homie. But then also, this man just be putting out games. I feel like we didn't talk enough about drop shot drop shot every go check that out on steam and i think it's everywhere too but i was i liked what i had seen on that one but yes ariel knight is putting out games all the time and fuck yeah he should be that he's making great stuff i can't wait for this one this one sounds awesome that's the thing is this one sounds i think go waste on steam right now this sounds more up my alley than even drop shot did like i of course i love a puzzle game uh but i think seeing his art style with the kind of weird uh story that we're tackling here with the puzzly gameplay it does something for me that i really like and so i'm looking forward to this also what a brilliant move in a industry we that we have right that's so chock full of video games and things and blah blah the fact that all of his games are ariel knights yeah in the title like you know what i mean so you just search his name a e r i a l uh knight uh k n i g h t and like you see boom there they are you know what i mean like you're all you're following his games for him i think as much you're the voice actor in what never we never yield we never yield the sequel to never real yeah uh this is coming out september 1st by the way i forget i think i missed out on the release date but it's not a great day yeah i understand but it's like what is a great day at this point you know what if i was ariel knight go for gta yeah honestly do it do it honestly that would have been a move right there um one more for a game getting a release date soon story number five agent 64 spies never die launches august 11th this is a game i've been waiting for for years I played I want to say it might have been a Steam Next Fest demo for this in like 2024 maybe even 2023.

58:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:So this has been on my radar for a while. The description reads a retro spy FPS inspired by the N64 era. Go guns blazing in action packed shootouts. Steal secret plans and accomplish objectives while foiling evildoers schemes as a secret agent in a solo or co-op campaign. Fight friends in both local split screen multiplayer and online with up to eight opponents. If you're not watching the video, it's basically Goldeneye. Yeah, it looks like Goldeneye. It's basically Goldeneye. We got to do a party mode of this. Yeah, 100%. Oh, for sure. I was surprised when I saw this in my email because I thought this game had just disappeared.

59:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But when I played the demo, I really liked it. I thought this played really well. It feels like a modernized version of a Goldeneye. Or if you're me, the world is not enough 007. So shout out to this one. Hell yeah. Okay. Yeah. August 11th, you said? August 11th, Agent 64, Spies Never Die is the name of the game. coming out on PC. I don't know if there's other platforms. I can double check with this other platform. Oh, you're fine. It says on Steam. That's the trailer right there. Oh, yeah. Yeah, out on PC. That's August 11th. Greg? Yeah? If we make that party mode happen, I think it'll be a big episode.

59:34Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where would I go? You'd go to our last news story, the Wii News channel, where we run you through all the small news items you need to know about. Story number six, Wii News. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resync has sold 2 million copies. You played that? I played a couple hours. And I was like, yeah, okay. Assassin's Creed. Black Flag's great. Barrett reviewed it, though. What did Barrett give it? An 8. Oh, nice. That's about what I'd expect. From GameDeveloper, The Alters and Frostpunk developer 11-Bit Studios is laying off 20 employees.

1:00:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:hate to hear this every single time especially from um frost from 11-bit studios because people here love the alters i think specifically andy but i played i played a few hours of it really inspired video game really cool so hate to hear this news and then octopath traveler and octopath traveler 2 will be launching on switch to on october 1st 2026 and that is it for we news come switch to editions why not why not let's hop into super chat see what y 'all are talking about uh david flores writes in and says what if id software does a fallout brotherhood of steel game that plays like doom you play as a paladin fighting wasteland creatures at my opinion at just that point just make a doom i don't play fallout so i can have doom like gameplay i play doom so i can have doom like gameplay if i'm playing xbox makes fallout to make money but i they've seen it there's no money in doom there's not there's not enough money in doom there's not enough money in doom i just don't think unless it's like really really good oh i don't think it's the right decision yeah i can totally see it happening i just think that yeah i think that'd be a bad i don't know if that game would do as well as a traditional fall oh well no no no i wouldn't do here but you're thinking and i don't even here's what i'll say i don't think it does better than a doom see i think it does no i i think stick with me stick with me i think there's fallout's ip cache has risen so much that i think it's what we always talk about with all these other things of like oh man it's somniac you make sunset overdrive and nobody plays it that sucks you get spider-man you get an ip people care about let's go i think so many people myself included probably write doom off like i've never been a doom guy yeah i don't want to be doom i don't want to do my so you're like all right cool they're making a fallout game and it's the mechanics of doom and oh i think there would be an audience like oh man i never cared about going to hell and being that guy but being in fallout universe and doing it yeah i just think it's a what are you coming to fallout for i'm coming to fallout for rpg mechanics and story and all these things my brother you know you're you're a fallout is just a different game like yeah i got a lot of war do i want to play god of war kart racer yes but like that's not so like first off again this is xbox slash microsoft saying how can we make as much money as possible yeah so none of this is going to be like what you're coming for but they they someone in that boardroom would also argue if you were in that room of like cool but I wasn't coming to sim you know life sim stuff until Fallout Shelter like Fallout Shelter wasn't a Fallout game sure I just think it's different when it's a $60$70 product I'm with you I'm not saying you're wrong I'm not saying you're wrong at all and again they would say all this and I would look at it and go okay cool I'm not going to play that that's not what I want out of a Fallout that's just Doom again and I'm not a big Doom guy but I also think a lot of people would have that feeling I think a lot of people would just be like this isn't this isn't Fallout I think it wouldn't even do great in terms of reception okay so I love this conversation you make good conversations around here thank you I there's plenty of people like you and me who would be like I play Fallout for the RPG thank you very much goodbye there'd be so many other people who go I love the Fallout show and I want to be Maximus I've tried the games the games are way too slow I don't care about talking to people I just want to shoot shit in my the armor that I can't remember the name of right now I want to be in the power suit power armor power armor right and I just want to run around I just want to kill monsters I think there would be a lot of people do it there was a um i'm going to talk about this in gregway today but there's a podcast called second breakfast that talks about art that they're playing right and on uh their fallout four episode it was a conversation of like the guy had been like i wanted this game for so long i've seen all the trailers and all the videos and he was a kid younger got it and sat down like what the fuck is this this isn't a shooter he thought it was going to be like halo like he was running around doing all the shooting that's what the trailers looked like and then got there it was like an RPG.

1:04:05He's like, ah, that's not what I'm going to do.

1:04:06Blessing Adeoye Jr.:That was literally me when I first bought Fallout 3. Like, I got Fallout 3 from the pre-owned thing at GameStop, brought it home, thought it was going to be a shooter, and then played it and was like, oh shit, this is one of the coolest stories I've ever experienced. And I think, but I think there's so many people that aren't like us that do just want to turn on the game and go fucking kill stuff and make it go boom. I got a game for you. It's called Doom. Just play Doom. But they're really in the church. They don't like, they don't like, they don't like Satan. They don't like hell. They like ghouls?

1:04:28Yeah. Robo and Goggins will be there. They like the weird centaur things with three heads that look fucking weird. Deathclaw?

1:04:34Blessing Adeoye Jr.:No. Centaur from Fallout 3. That thing freaked me out when I first saw it. Yeah. I mean, I think when you contextualize it as like Maximus and you're mowing things down in power armor, you start to sell me a bit. But I don't know. I feel like we're underrating Doom as far as like what Doom does. I think at that point. But they're not in it to make art. They're in it to make money. but I think dude makes money I think clearly it doesn't make them enough money and I think there's also a conversation of that they have weakened the brand by the game pass stuff where people think they don't need to go do it I mean what were the sales like on Playstation I'll try to find out while you keep talking yeah cause you'll start to buy it on Playstation bringing in more super chats I'm just a Billy writes in and says catching up but did I hear Walt Williams the Spec Ops writer you did riding the Wolverine game yeah he's on that here you go um aaron lime says for doing the dark ages did not sell well period so that's that's what i'm getting flooded with right now it's sold less it reportedly sold less than a million copies uh and that's including whatever but they were bragging about three million players uh ai scraping a youtube video and it's saying playstation sales were between 200 000 and 500 000 somebody says uh i missed it in chat but there was somebody in chat that said blessed people love buying popular IPs and I'm very obviously obviously yes like I know exactly what Greg is pitching I just think that doesn't work when you are doing things with a popular IP that people end up not liking and I'm not automatically sold sold on the idea that id software would make a fallout game that would be well received as a fallout game I part of it for me is story and narrative where like i i love doom games i don't i do not care about those stories i do not like the stories are not sticky with me i'm not sure that that they and this is me i i don't want to talk shit about it it's offered especially right now but i don't know if they have the chops for me of like oh you're making a fallout game that resonates with me on that narrative story level that i'm looking for out of fallout yeah i don't know if they'd be able to do that for me fair enough and like i don't know if i want to go open up a boot up a fallout thing just so I can mow down things.

1:06:47But maybe you can convince me.

1:06:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Maybe you put out a version of that that does make me go, oh man, okay. I mean, it's back to the same thing of like, I think, let's talk about Musou games, right? And it's like, okay, here's a Zelda Musou. And a little bit, Dynasty Warriors did fine by itself, so I'm not acting like this saved the franchise. But it is like, there is a, hey, taking your chocolate and your peanut butter and putting it together. And I do think if it was like, we're doing this thing, it's going to be, you're out there in the Brotherhood of Steel thing. And like, Maximus from the show is giving you missions or what and I blame a ship you know what I mean he's involved in the story he's actually there we have some tie in with Lucy yeah there's going to be a Walton Goggins ghoul thing like we really are giving you the version of the show and there's something there again it doesn't get me stoked I'd be like oh that's really nice I'm good but that is there for you maybe Aaron Lyme says for Kingdom Hearts Echoes D23 we'll have a panel this year called Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts on the 15th of August there's a chance for news inhale the hopium there you go uh let's bring in one from d noseworthy who says birthday tax 48 today on vacation and watching my first live show i've been watching greg since early beyond days i love you all thanks for the entertainment and for standing up for marginalized communities you guys rock thank you so much thank you for watching for being live and hanging out and watching me forever that's great and then i'll do exactly two more oh my god just two science dog says birthday tax for me my son i'm 35 today and my son is three on wednesday happy birthday uh and then cletus hamwater says black jaw you're cool bless i live in charleston grew up in danville and have always been an illini fan hell yeah what do you think the basketball team's ceiling is this season oh i do not pay attention espn has them at a too early preseason number three i don't pay attention at all to illini sports just to college sports in general even though i know the line i was doing really well this last season um i'm rooting for them i have no idea how they're gonna do but i'm rooting for them if they get far i'll start to pay attention this time that is it for super chats let's hop into you're wrong where you write in let us know what we got wrong as we got it wrong so we can correct it for those watching later on youtube and listening later on podcast services around the globe nick cheek writes in and says greg mentioned jean gray and jesse faden are the same actress jesse from control is played by courtney we hope.

1:09:06Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Jean Grey is the new Wolverine or in the new Wolverine is played by Trezia Biles. The two different actresses.

1:09:17Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I've never... The star... You've always said this and I didn't... I've never caught the confirmation of this so I just assumed that you've been right about this. No way! I mean, we joked about it when they showed her in the Wolverine trailer. They look the same but I think we might have just assumed. Oh! Oh, very interesting. Wow. I didn't know that. I, I, I didn't remember it being a joke. I remember somebody saying it and me looking at it and be like, oh yeah, that, that's Jesse from control. That's fucking crazy. That was a very bad, like, does the actress, I'm going to get to Googling. If the actress doesn't look anything like that, what the fuck are you doing?

1:09:56Insomniac?

1:09:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:They like, they played control and they're like, we like this. Let's take it. Let's just do it. That's it for your wrong. I'm gonna let Greg look that up real quick before we get out of here Yeah, just say hi to everybody Jeff says Greg Miller thinks all women look the same I was gonna make that joke I was gonna say Greg thinks all white women look the same No, she I mean Does she look like her? This woman looks nothing like the Jessie actress Now I gotta fucking see Who plays Freya in God of War? I forget her name TV actress than Jean Grey who was in Parks and Rec for a little bit Grey God of War actress because the picture Greg just showed me no that's not her oh Danielle Basuti I knew that what do you find in there fucking that's fucking insane I can't believe they made her look so much like control I can't believe you thought it was the same actress that's so fucking funny because they look exactly the fucking same look at that they do they look the same but so much so and i'm talking about the characters in the game i think so much so that zia does not look anything like no jesus this is so bizarre but yeah jesse faden and jean gray look so similar that if they were the same actress i think insomniac would make them look more different like they look like the same character in a way that i think they just did not think about it they didn't connect the two i mean yeah Look over here on the right, just above me in the picture in picture.

1:11:31Look at them side by side or on top of each other. That's what I've pulled up over here. And then let me send you.

1:11:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But is it that they look the same or they both just have the same hairstyle and wear jackets? They're both just redheads. Yeah. They control things with their eyes. I mean, I think the bridge of their nose looks incredible. I mean, I think for again, remember what we're running off of when we're live. We're live reacting to a fucking thing. You show me this girl who looks exactly like Jesse, who was already in the fucking direct. Computer, zoom into the bridge of the nose.

1:12:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:it's a tiktok thing oh sorry it's okay it's okay

1:12:08Blessing Adeoye Jr.:it's kind of like that actually uh let's get out of here because right after this i am previewing beast reincarnation i keep wanting to say beast of what incarnation but i know that's not that funny but it's funny in my head and so there you go of course this has been kind of funny games daily if you love what we do support us with the kind of funny membership on patreon on YouTube to get our shows ad free and get a daily exclusive show.
