Key claims
- “Half-Life 3” hype: Internet speculation ties data-mined Valve code (“HLX”) to a non-VR single-player FPS in an HEV suit fighting aliens/soldiers, and connects it to Valve’s new Steam hardware announcements and Jeff Keighley’s Steam wishlist “eye emoji” posts (despite no Half-Life 3 Steam page).
- Megabonk removed from Game Awards “Best Debut Indie Game” after admitting he previously made games under another name (Vetinad).
- Epic and Unity partnership: Unity devs can publish Unity titles in Fortnite; Unreal Engine support for Unity is planned, with pricing/live-ops management next year.
Notable examples
- HLX described as physics-puzzle FPS; Half-Life Alyx anniversary dates (Nov 18/19) fueling rumors.
- Megabonk’s withdrawal tweets from Jeff Keighley and Megabonk.
- Unity examples mentioned: Hollow Knight (Silksong referenced as Unity-made), Cuphead, Beat Saber, Neon White.

3:05Blessing Adeoye Jr.:maybe he got in a car accident he's in the hospital right now maybe he did one of those things where he just accepts an invite somewhere from a phone number he doesn't recognize and it was like you know somebody just trying to lure him out there the hernia exploded yeah finally popped but man i was you know we streamed it yesterday chat we streamed elder ring night rain yesterday we wanted to get blessed towards the end game to prep for december 4th the big elder ring night rain dlc today and man i just i fell back in the rhythm that's a good video game freak that's a fun video game i still think it's a like if i could go back and i forget what i gave it on the review or even if I gave it a score but I whatever I gave it at the time I still stand by because I do think it's a weirdly made thing I guess you know what updates have probably fixed quite a few of the issues that we had back in the day right because it was like no uh duos you couldn't do duos back then now you can they've added in some updates for things but even still it's still such a weirdly put together game that just works at the end of the day they get the fun factor right I couldn't believe how much I just wanted to go back to it last night but I did end up playing some more of that Moonlighter 2, which is now out today.
4:15Wow. Happy Moonlighter 2 day, everybody. Really fun video game. We reviewed it. I reviewed it a couple days ago. I think it's a great roguelite experience. If you're already maybe burnt out of Hades 2, maybe you've put 300, 400 hours into that. Moonlighter 2 is a lot of fun. It's a ton of fun. Gorgeous art style and the soundtrack, Christopher Larkin, The Goat, Hollow Knight Silksong, Hollow Knight fame. Really, really good video game. That's awesome.
4:43Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Put your lighters up to the moon for Moonlighter 2. Everybody, let me see them. Put your lighters up to the moon. Let me see them. Well, we have a lot like a really sensitive smoke alarm here. Yesterday, I started putting together a backlog, a 2025 backlog of games that I do want to go back and check out. I want to play And Roger. Yeah. That game looks interesting. It's a short narrative game. Very short one that everybody seemed to really vibe with. I just want to feel something. okay i think ian roger is one of those ones that allow me to feel something the art style reminded what was that mobile game from like 2017 about like a couple and it had like that particular art style florence florence the art style like the little that i saw like someone posted about it i was like oh that reminds me of florence a little bit you want to feel something bless yeah look no further than my chest i'm feeling a lot of feelings citizen sleeper too oh i have it on the list i was gonna say armored core i was like it wasn't 2025 just go back to it you know just i mean i think about armored core way more often than a human being should six two way to go buddy oh man rusty dude shit dude you know man i would go to war for rusty oh dude what if we all just go back did you guys do your third playthrough because i did two playthroughs i never did my third yeah we kept telling you to do the third yeah i was busy at the time i never did oh i think i watched videos i think bear is the only one that did the third place there's a lot of just a lot of video i did two playthroughs before that game before we did the review which is unheard of from me yeah and i would have done my third playthrough you know what it was though it's fucking starfield i could have skipped starfield third playthrough of our court there wasted 40 hours on starfield like how about got in the way of me playing kingdom come deliverance too exactly silent hill f i also redownloaded that's another one on my on my backlog now.
6:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I want to play it. After the Game Awards nominees, I feel like I got to check out that Silent Hill F and then go back and play 2. Highly awarded. Citizen Sleeper, I have it on my dock for December, Andy. Gosh. Let me get past... What am I... I'm still, you know, keeping on with Demon School and then Marvel Cosmic Invasion comes out early December. Same with Unbeatable. Once I get through those, I'll dive back in for you. You know what they say. You really fucked me on Demon School, by the way. Fair enough.
7:03look is that fantasy crack yeah i didn't even know it came out it has an 81 81 yeah when reviews first pop it was very exciting though when reviews first popped andy it was at like an 87 oh really oh i didn't know that oh shit like i i told him this and it fucking paid off and then it just it just kept on descending less yeah people apparently the farther you get into the game you know like the the charming characters they don't have a lot of depth for them apparently that was like a criticism I kept seeing a lot of bugs apparently which I have not encountered but yeah that gameplay is real fucking fun though Sundead in chat says Mike might actually win I think Barrett is gonna win I need Cosmic Invasion to perform just as well as TMNT Shredder's Revenge and I need Unbeatable to get me at least an 80 that's like such an easy
7:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:you think but I fucking drafted possessors and that shit got me a 70 like what are we doing here don't trust the indie that's what i've learned that's a real i'm just saying play stack is the one publishing the game they've also published other darlings like the golden idol games and uh bellatro and like whenever they talk about unbeatable they're like we're like we stand behind this game you understand fucking hard part machine made possessors they made hyper light drifter yeah then they made breaker but i didn't know you know what i mean like i i drafted it before breaker didn't they didn't they make that game that came out of solar ash solar ash yeah you're thinking i think you're about to say pathless i was about to say you're about you're thinking about path i saw uh lucid dream in the chat say people need to play uh sword of the sea there's a super chat from lucid dream and uh i know that's not a super long one but i feel like if i play that one that might make me feel in some ways here's my thing i started it i think it's beautiful i think it's a good good game it felt it i think the thing with it is that it feels like i've been there done that yeah like i was so into pathless and i've played i played so many of these types of games whether whether it be journey or whether it be a solar ash or something like that and so playing this and i was like this is cool but i've been here before i i beat it i think it only took me like five or six hours it's one of those that's nice the kind of last hour really cool but for a majority of my time playing i did think i was thinking to myself man how many times can we just do journey again you know yeah but there is some cool stuff later on i i think it's like a 7.5 to eight somewhere around there but nothing that's like holy shit blown away art style could definitely be a little contender for the Smilies.
9:46Oh, yeah.
9:47Blessing Adeoye Jr.:We gotta figure out the categories. Yeah. I'll put myself in the schedule to do that. We'll get to that. Thank you for that super chat once again, Lucid Dream. 12:57We have seven stories today. A picker's dozen! Story number one. Why the internet thinks Half-Life 3 is being announced today. This comes from Zach Zoizen at Kotaku. Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed something odd. A lot of people seem to think that Half-Life 3 is about to be announced. Some folks have dates marked for when we should expect the sequel. There are even some who think Half-Life 3 will be announced at the Game Awards. And a lot of people seem to believe that Half-Life 3 is real and nearly finished, despite, you know, Valve never confirming that. So what's going on? Since 2021, data miners have been finding and documenting many snippets of code left over in other Valve projects like Dota 2, related to something internally at Valve known as HLX.
13:46And while Valve hasn't told us what HLX refers to, Fans and data miners have collected a lot of dots over the last four years or so. What else could HLX stand for? Hyper Light Zipter.
13:59Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I was going to say, a whole lot of ecstasy. Oh, okay. They do that a lot of ecstasy. Okay. Yeah. How's it looking, Exhibit? I really asked him. Every time. Cars looking good. Cars looking great. What's been found, HLX appears to be a single-player, non-VR FPS featuring a character in an HEV suit who fights aliens and soldiers through various levels while possibly solving physics-based puzzles. Now, that sounds a lot like a new Half-Life game. And most of the community following HLX, as well as multiple reliable leakers, have started to call this data-mined project Half-Life 3. The fact that Valve has been working quietly on what appears to be a new Half-Life game for at least roughly five years and likely longer than that has created some hype online.
14:47But everything got kicked into high gear last week after Valve announced three new pieces of hardware. The Steam Machine, the Steam Frame, and the Steam Controller. What a day. You weren't here for that, were you? Dude, I was not. And I didn't, I really kind of didn't see, like, how grand this vision is. Yeah. When I saw all of it, I was like, okay, that's cool. Like, oh, they're bringing the scene machine back. You know, we figured they would do that one day. But, like, it didn't really hit me the way. And then once I was watching Digital Foundry's video, I was like, oh, fuck. I want this little thing.
15:23I want it so bad.
15:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I don't know why I want it that bad. I have a PC. Like, I don't know why. But I love sitting on my TV. I hate the long HDMI cable with the wireless mouse and trying to, like, click on the right. Like, I love, I would love just having that experience right the hell there. And, like, someone, like, I don't plug my PC into the big TV, but I do have, like, my Steam Deck dock, which I have gotten to work and, like, be pretty consistent. But, like, you know, like, the resolution doesn't look the best or whatever. So it's like I would love to just have like the Steam machine and then you just got cloud save and then my Steam Deck is just on the go.
16:02Like, ooh. Come on. Yeah. For many fans already hungry for a new Half-Life game and convinced by dubious Reddit posts and TikToks that it was totally being announced soon, this hardware announcement from Valve was a very big deal. Valve often releases new games with new hardware like Alex with the Index and Desk Job with the Steam Deck. What was Desk Job?
16:22Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Aperture Desk Job. Oh, right. Okay, that's right. A little two-hour little experience. Small little, if that. Yeah, maybe even less than that. Yeah, it almost felt like a little demo or something. A little tech demo, yeah. So naturally, many people started to speculate that Valve's next game, likely HLX, a.k.a. Half-Life 3, would be announced soon and launched around the release of the new Steam Machine in 2026. November 18th became a popular date for many. It would mark the five-year anniversary of Half-Life Alyx's announcement, the last Half-Life game, and would give Valve plenty of time to market the sequel before an early 2026 launch others believe november 19th is the magical date as it's a 27 year anniversary of the original half-life then fans noticed jeff keely the creator and host of the game awards and master of video game reveals only had one game on his steam wish list when asked about it he offered up some eye emojis this threw people up in a frenzy did you see the result of this i'm gonna send it to assets i did see that there was some debugging some uh you know debugging or debunking debunking okay yeah yeah yeah yeah this is there was a 64 so does this refute the rest of this article or should we just look at the evidence it's just a funny it doesn't refute shit okay but we'll get into it when asked about it he offered up some eye emojis then this the uh that threw people into a frenzy despite the fact that half-life 3 doesn't have a Steam page, so it can't be added to a wish list yet.
17:45Didn't matter. This was evidence Half-Life 3 was going to be announced at Jeff's annual trailer extravaganza, the game awards in December. At this point, people can't ignore how many insiders, leaks, and reporters are hinting at some big announcement from Valve. But keep in mind, officially speaking, Valve has not announced that a new Half-Life game is in development. Still, Valve did reportedly have a lot of extra security at their offices while revealing all the new Steam hardware. And the company does seem to have one more thing to announce, as its official Steam page lists two upcoming games but only shows one deadlock is the other game half-life 3 the internet seems to think so so like of course it's is there a lot of smoke right like you know with
18:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:what's the phrase where there's smokes there's flames yes are there some smokes yes are there some people creating steam yes as well right like not all of the smoke i think is smoke from the fire i think some a lot of it is also just manufactured hot water hot water yeah i think some of it here is funny though like this jeff keely thing is hilarious because yes jeff keely responded to the wishlist thing with the eye emojis uh and then he followed it up with a screenshot of his wishlist with one game being dad olympics and wario 64 replied back to that showing that that dad olympics game was added to his wishlist the 18th the day that he posted the screenshot and the day after he did the eye emoji oh yes that's actually a very good point yeah and so he removed something else from his wishlist and then add this to his wishlist take this fake screen screenshot okay which is which is it half-life 3 i don't think so i think it's probably something else that's not ready to be talked about it had to have been something what's the funniest game we could uh think that he would want a wishlist what's the horse name umusume yes it It had to have been something five or six years ago, and then he forgot that wishlisting was a thing, and you just kind of fall out of rhythm with it, you know?
19:37I, that's, yeah, it's not anything.
19:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I don't think it's, I don't think he, I think that would be crazy if he wishlisted Half-Life 3. That doesn't make sense. Yeah, it would have to have a Steam page. It would have to have a Steam page. I mean, I'm not above the idea that Jeff would have access to an unlisted Steam page for Half-Life. I just don't think he would hit the wishlist button. Yeah. I think that's the crazy part. Yeah. Jeff hitting the wishlist button. It has to have just been a mistake, right? Yeah. But I also don't know if he would, like, try to stoke that flame if there wasn't fire. Yeah, okay. I don't know if he would eye emoji something if there wasn't something to eye emoji.
20:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I could see that. You know? I just don't. I think. I'm not saying it's impossible that it's Half-Life 3. I just think it could be a number of upcoming things as well. Oh, sure. Yeah. It's Jeff. So he has access to all this shit. What was the original tweet on that thread? It could be Okami 2. Oh, that's actually a really good question. Oh, it's Jeff tweeting out about how Steam is celebrating game awards. Gotcha. So you can see there that he has a game wishlisted. Exactly one game. Okay. Yeah, I guess maybe if it was... If those tweets took place in a thread that we're talking about, you know a possible valve or whatever like i don't know i think the eye emojis is like him really trying to get people stoked and get people excited but i think at that point he i think at this point he's just memeing with it yeah he's just having a little fun all this other stuff though i mean there's like a lot of different things leading into the idea that half-life 3 could very well exist and we talked about we talked about it a lot last week with the steam machine and all the hardware being announced that i would be shocked if valve didn't have a software announcement coming up to go out alongside uh the hardware because that's how they operate it's also this is such a big push for them i think it would make so much sense with valve a company that has such powerful ip to put out something alongside that they did it with the index with half-life alex being the big one um aperture desk job was a smaller thing but still there was a level of polish and acknowledgement of people love portal let's do something in the portal world to go out alongside the steam deck even if it's a small thing i think for sure valve is going to do something yeah i i guess i just totally discounted how that news was pretty massive that because in my mind the steam machine had just come out and had just recently failed this is like a decade ago like a very long time ago this was i was at roosterteeth when this whole had those little controllers weird controllers that like yeah we thumbsticks we had those at at the studio and like it just they looked like shit they felt like shit we're like all right this is this is a novel idea but nothing that's ever going to really work and yeah to now over a decade later or almost a decade later come back and say the steam machine is back yeah i don't really know if you launch something like that unless you have something to you know package in with it or go alongside it did you see the data mine stuff because they mention uh one of these other valve games but i saw i i'm pretty sure i saw people were talking about it in regard to deadlocked as well i think about a year ago i remember roger talking about this of hlx like stuff in the data mine stuff right that was like referenced there that people were like oh this is half-life 3 very very fascinating yeah yeah the whole non-vr fps featuring a character in an hev suit yeah like here in the article they say dota 2 but i remember it being deadlocked so do you think this is gonna happen do you think we're gonna get that i was gonna say deadlocked do you think we're gonna get deadlocked too but do you think we're gonna get half-life 3 uh i mean i don't know why i don't know why the answer would be no at this point what the hell is the in the valley of the gods team working on you know uh the camp the former camposanto team what are all of those employees working on there has to have been something right i know like alex already came out i can't believe it's been five years since alex yeah that's insane to me but yeah this all just sort of seems to make sense this like valve is making like a very very strong push right here yeah now would it be crazy okay Tell me which one you'd want.
24:07Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I don't know if this makes sense because I've not played Half-Life Alyx. So I don't know what makes sense. But I'm just saying words because that's my job, y 'all. What if not Half-Life 3? What if for the Steam frame, Half-Life Alyx 2, but then we get Portal 3? Because that's what I want. I sacrifice Half-Life for Portal any day. Okay. Portal 3 non-VR game? Non-VR game. The non-VR game? Okay. Flat game. For flat screeners. For flat screeners. But fighting aliens and soldiers? Oh, you're saying versus Half-Life? Yeah, like I'm looking at, I mean, the description of whatever these leaks are.
24:46Like, you're not fighting aliens and soldiers in Portal 3. I love the Hopium, though.
24:51Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Well, I'm saying HL, I guess, you know, you're right. Because HLX, they say that it's not a VR thing in here. Yeah. What if DX is a cross? Half-Life cross. Portal. Same universe. All right, story number two. Same universe. Black Mesa. Story number two. Megabonk withdraws from the Game Awards. This is something that Jeff Keighley and the Megabonk dev were both tweeting out yesterday. And the tweet goes as follows. Megabonk, this comes from Jeff Keighley. Megabonk, a nominee for Best Debut Indie Game, reached out to clarify that he is an established solo developer who had been presenting himself as a new creator under the name Vetinad.
25:31We're grateful for his honesty. As a result, Megabonk will be removed from the category. He'll share more about his story when he's ready, but we respect that he didn't want to take recognition away from other debut teams, even though the game itself is outstanding. And then we have the tweet from Megabonk Game, the official Megabonk Twitter account. It says, I'm withdrawing from the Game Awards. It's an honor and a dream for Megabonk to be nominated for the Game Awards, but unfortunately, I don't think it qualifies for the category debut indie game. I've made games in the past under different studio names, so Megabonk is not my debut game.
26:05followed by the little emoji of the glasses and the mustache um under you know he's under disguise
26:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:of somebody else i have many things first of all uh of course shout out to the megabonk dev for being um upfront about this yeah and like being honest about this and yeah i think this is a good move from them i i feel like i can't imagine being in these shoes because i would have so much anxiety this this for me is like such a curb your enthusiasm oh shit they nominated me but i'm not fuck i made this other game i just changed my name like i'm not ah shit then for the game awards i just made this in my basement like for fun yeah i can't yeah i can't imagine the like oh my god they actually did it actually nominated me oh shit yeah for debut oh fuck it's not my debut oh shit do i keep that like what do i do here what's the backstory here is this a well you know wanting to be under the name of a new developer is this like is it a we don't know secrecy secretive thing that well that brings me to my other question is who would be the funniest dev that this could end up being like this is jonathan blow yeah exactly this is the dude who made fez the uh here's a here's an aside right here um oh danadev is his old name okay tommy talarico is a fantastic one mr hawks um the i don't know if you've noticed whenever we bring up megabonk greg gets very like defensive about vampire survivors like we have a blatant ripoff of like they're just so blatant about it i'm like okay chill out i'm not yeah just not notice this Just listen in.
27:51Listen, I know Greg's in the city right now, but he gets really, really defensive about like vampire survival. Is he wrong? No, he's not. But like, I don't like this is not the first nor second nor third nor millionth game to do something like, hey, we're taking that game. We're we're making it 3D. We're making it 2D. And yeah, a lot of the art assets look like this is not the first time this has ever happened at all. But he's like, it's a fucking Blaine Ray. That's really funny. I've not noticed this once.
28:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But like you saying that is exactly like that kind of the same tone that Tim will give when we bring up. What's the pocket pair game? Power World. When Power World comes up and Tim gets like very like, like, oh, no, like this shit's just fucking Pokemon. And neither of them are wrong. Neither of them are wrong. But it's the same exact tone that you're describing. Neither of them are wrong. Yeah. But it just really like sticks in his craw. We all have that game. We all have that like button. Yeah. What's yours? Oh, that's a good question. i don't know when my button is now to think of it now that i'm thinking of it i guess it's tough because like this isn't the same really but like i i of course i love shadow colossus and eco or whatever so when i see games that like very strongly have the same kind of energy to them i think for me i'm like well you're not him you're not him i like i kind of do this with journey a little bit uh where like i acknowledge that like journey is a good game but like when people talk about Journey, I'm kind of like, well, you know.
29:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:It's a good game. Shadow of the Losses was also. Journey's a good game. You know, did a lot of this. Eco did a lot of the. I've never played Journey. Did it first. You ever played Journey? No. You're fine. No, I'm just kidding. You should play Journey. You should play Journey. It's a different button, but whenever I say that Looper is a better movie than Arrival. Unbelievable. What a crazy take. Yeah. Crazy take. Arrival. Didn't you feel noob? Like, come on, man. One of the goats. One of the goats, dude. Yeah, I mean, this is a. I'm happy that the truth came out finally after a lot of investigative journalism no I'm just happy that the developer said no I don't deserve this let the other people win now does Jeff try to find something else in its place I don't think he will I think because of the nomination process like the only I think the only way you would be able to do it would be to go alright what's the next thing that got the amount of votes under that but I wonder if that's a thing you want to do it's something you can do because the like the ballots haven't been sent out yet you know oh for like actual yeah actual winners yeah i think it's something that's possible i don't know what devs would be able to make that list i think i'll be salty like i of course if i'm if i'm the dev oh thank you thank you if i'm the dev whose game gets nominated because megabond comes out of course i'm happy because i got nominated or whatever but loki i'd be like damn so i was the sixth place like damn that's crazy that sucks uh i don't want to know i like got you you know i'm the the charity charity case game that made it and then it's like well now my game can't win because everybody knows i was the sixth place thing got you because then what happens when that game wins the whole thing which wouldn't happen but like if it happened people like well that wasn't even nominated slide dispatch in says kill grim i mean come on yes that's the way you solve this whole thing you just go well dispatch let's just fucking put that in there they've never made games before i think dispatch is in best debut indy is it i thought so dispatch is nominated for something oh yeah i think you're right actually oh shit all right well we're actually good we don't need anymore i think we did it there you go nice very very good uh yeah they're also mentioning that the uh chat's mentioning that the online voting is already going oh that would really really screws things up unless jeff puts out like a little newsletter hey we're redoing the votes we fucked up put in put in uh another game in there slide something in there um let's go to story number three epic announces go ahead oh i just put it on three oh i thought you were saying like no it's four or something i didn't see oh no epic announces a partnership to bring Unity games into Fortnite.
31:58This comes from Sophie McAvoy at gamesindustry.biz. Epic Games and Unity have announced a major partnership allowing developers to publish Unity titles in Fortnite, revealed today during Unity's annual developer conference, Unite. The collaboration will also see Unity bring Unreal Engine support to its platform. Early next year, developers will also be able to, quote, manage pricing, promotions, and live operations with Unreal. Additional information and product timing will be shared in 2026. Quote, we're excited to partner with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world, said Unity President and CEO Matt Bromberg.
32:38I'm Matt Bromberg.
32:39Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Matt Bromberg. Choice and open systems create growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem. Speaking to The Verge, Sweeney said that this partnership will greatly expand the developer base. He also clarified that there would be a review process for whether Fortnite experiences are made with tools from either engine. Quote, as this evolves into a completely open system, we'd only have reviews for stuff that we host. Anybody that would be able to put anything anywhere and people would be able to browse to it like you do in a web browser today. Some unity right there. Some unity, yeah. Between two.
33:16Epic move. Yeah, between two. Oh, that's really good. Thank you. I mean, two engines that are, you know, constantly, whenever you're in the industry, you go, well, I know a little bit of Unity, or I know a little bit of Unreal. And it's rarely kind of both unless you've been in the industry for quite some time. So that's very, very cool. I don't really, it's, I would have to hear more from developers as to like, how it really changes their day to day, how like this really affects the workflow and everything like that. but I think it's great because I we've seen a lot of very successful unity games as of late as some more and more devs have maybe strayed away from unreal engine but yeah this is a cool

33:59Blessing Adeoye Jr.:move of unity I think I'm lost on the end game as far as publishing games in fortnite I know that this is the thing that fortnite's been doing for a while right as far as different modes different games and all that are there games that have outside of like the epic made stuff whether it be lego or rocket racing or the rock band thing they got going on in there are there like are there ways to monetize within ways to monetize and then also like have there been breakout successes of games that have been released through fortnite that have really like taken over i guess almost the way that a roblox game would well i i would say that many years ago there were a lot of creators who saw this as like the the final frontier there were a lot of creators in the space a lot of streamers a lot of people who were streamed but also they streamed a lot of fortnite but also had higher ambitions of what if i what if i had a team to make a game within the fortnite ecosystem and i don't really think much came from that i know that a lot of experiences maybe got played for a couple of months here and there but i don't i don't really know what the monetization is within fortnite and i don't know whether that's a stable form of income whether or whether that's just a play place for developers or creators to kind of keep their name you know in the relevant circles so that they could maybe make something else in the future and say hey you love that game that we made on fortnite well now we made a new one it's on steam now and now we can make money like i don't really know if it's like a funnel to bigger things i guess that's my thing maybe maybe i just got to live in fortnite for a few weeks to really understand it and get it um but what is i guess if you're a developer making a an indie game right and you made it in unity and you're putting it out what are the benefits of putting it out within fortnite versus just putting it out on the epic game store on or on steam i think it's eyes it's it's it's when you're in the fortnite community similar to yeah uh samson l makes a great point they want the dress to impress and grow garden success from roblox yeah when you're it's the same thing you know whenever we see the reports of over this amount of time this many million of people of users were playing steam games add three to four million on top of that that's how many were playing roblox a lot of it is just it's a different marketplace there's more eyes on it but I don't really fully know how the monetization works.
36:30I'm assuming in ad revenue. I'm also thinking, what Andy is saying, but adding on top of that, the age demographic as well of how many kids are going on the Steam and checking out indie games or whatever, or booting up Fortnite and then they see a bunch of new little experiences that they can check out, which, depending on what kind of game you're making, might be more beneficial as well.
36:55Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, okay, that makes sense. Yeah, I think I look at that and then what we're talking about with the monetization aspect of, all right, how are you making money off these games when they're releasing within Fortnite? And then also, I guess I always assume that games coming out in Fortnite were being made with Fortnite tools or epic tools that are catered towards Fortnite releases, which I imagine this partnership is going to try and help streamline what that process looks like for Unity integration within Fortnite. But it's hard for me to imagine, like, I'm trying to think of a game that's made in Unity.
37:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:It's 12 minutes a Unity game. who cares there are there's i played one just recently i don't remember let me say the name of a unity game so i can use it as an example uh i'll tell you one ruby grim eclipse what the fuck is that game i worked on for rooster teeth the anime i was like what are you saying to me right now jesus somebody says silk song no way silk songs is hollow night really a unity game oh yeah i think it is yeah we'll use that as the example yeah yeah um what like can can i play a hollow knight and you like if you if you if you make hollow knight can you give it to epic be like all right i want to put this in fortnight and play hollow knight in fortnight like and if this sounds like an ignorant question is because i'm ignorant i don't i don't i'm trying to understand here i think i need to watch like a 40 minute video breakdown of exactly what the fortnight store and marketplace yeah and how it operates you know i just i don't have a lot of familiarity with it unfortunately supermarket simulator was made in in unity so was cuphead so was beat saber damn oh uh also there's that recent video game someone was saying neon white oh okay neon white there's that recent game made by the ori devs no rest for the wicked oh yeah game as well okay so yeah i guess my question is are those the type of games that you can put in fortnite for people to check out or are there are there are you building in like a Fortnite mode in Unity.
38:53Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Again, I'm not a developer, so. Yeah. I'm just curious on what that looks like. All fascinating questions. And if you have any, you know, tidbits for us chat, let us know in the super chats. And you're, you know, on the topic of monetization, bless. I love monetization. Yeah. I love it. Same. This comes from Vicki Blake at gamesindustry.biz. Heinemann detailed the journey through her diagnosis and treatment via her GoFundMe page, writing candidly about her fight. social media has been has since been flooded with messages from fans co-workers and developers thanking her for her work it's time she wrote in her final message posted yesterday november 17th according to my doctors all further treatments are pointless so please donate so my kids can create a funeral funeral worthy of my keyboard pixel breaker so i can make a worthy entrance for reuniting with my once you love and late wife janelle jacquase my daughter cynthia elizabeth
45:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:heineman will be making the arrangements very sad news um we should mention that yeah she passed away of cancer aged 62 um i learned a lot about her this last week as there have been so many posts tweets blue skies that's a bs tim about her work and her legacy um i want to read a portion from a wikipedia it's a longer portion but like it's very fascinating to hear um about what rebecca heineman like where she started and kind of where she went in her career because like this is somebody who made a big impact in the industry so starting off in the early life section right rebecca ann heineman was born uh william salvador heineman on october 30th 1963 and raised in whittier california when she was young she could not afford to purchase games for her atari 2600 so she taught herself how to how to copy cartridges and built herself a sizable pirated video game collection eventually she moved from copying games to reverse engineering consoles code to understand how the games were made.
46:43Blessing Adeoye Jr.:In 1980, Heinemann and a friend traveled to Los Angeles to compete in a regional qualifying round of a national Atari 2600 Space Invaders championship. Although she did not expect a place among the top 100 contestants, she won the competition. Later that year, she also won the championship in New York. Heinemann is hence the first champion of a national U.S. video game tournament. Holy shit. Right? Crazy. After she won the tournament, Heinemann was offered a writing job for monthly magazine Electronic Games. and a consultancy job for a book called How to Master Video Games. During this time, she mentioned to one magazine publisher that she had reverse-engineered Atari 2600 code, and the publisher arranged a meeting between Heinemann and the owners of a game publisher, Avalon Hill.
47:26Blessing Adeoye Jr.:As she met with them, she was hired as a programmer instantaneously. Heinemann, aged 16 at the time, moved across the U.S. for a new job, canceling her plans to acquire a high school diploma. At Avalon Hill, Heinemann created a manual for the company's programming team, the studio's game engine, and the base code for several software projects, including her own first game, London Blitz, before leaving the company. Heinemann returned to California to work for another developer, Boone Corporation. For Boone, she programmed the game Chuck Norris Superkicks and Robin Hood, acquiring knowledge of programming for Commodore 64, Apple II, VIC-20, and IBM PC, a video game's hardware, as well as video game design.
48:08Blessing Adeoye Jr.:boone ceased operations in 1983 so heineman joined brian fargo jay patel and troy worrell to establish interplay productions heineman acted as programmer for the company working on wasteland the bard's tale various ports of out of this world and the mac os 3do and apple uh 2gs ports of wolfenstein 3d heineman went on to design the bard's tale 3 uh thief of fate dragon wars task times in tone town borrow time mind shadow the tracer sanction and programmed various ports of battle chess among others for interplay as the company grew to more than 500 employees heineman wish wishing to return to her small team roots left the company in 1995 and co-founded logicware where she acted as chief technology officer and lead programmer aside from the original games such as defiance heineman oversaw the company's porting activities which included it out of this world killing time shattered steel jazz jack rabbit 2 which we remember from that episode game showdown and a canceled mac os port of half-life in 1999 heinemann co-founded or sorry heinemann founded contraband entertainment and served as a ceo the company developed several original games alongside ports to various platforms for other developers projects led by heinemann include activision anthology and mac os ports for aliens versus predators baldur's gate 2 and Heroes of Might and Magic 4.
49:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:During this time, she also provided consultancy work directly for other companies. She acted as Senior Engineer 3 for Electronic Arts, upgraded Engine Code for Barking Lizards Technologies, and Ubisoft Optimized Codes for Sensory Sweep Studios, acted as Senior Software Architect for Bloomberg LP and Amazon, provided training on Xbox 360 development for Microsoft's development studios, and worked on Kernel Code for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 4 at Sony. um i'm gonna pause there as far as the credits because as you can tell it goes fucking deep as far as all story did yeah like a storied career uh i'd also want to shout out another segment where they talk about personal life and death here right in a segment uh in in the documentary series high score heineman said she was drawn to video games at a young age uh as quote allowed me to be myself and allowed me to play as female uh as early at the as early as early as at the founding of interplay heineman had had a concern with her birth name at the time interplay's founders were not taking a salary and to sustain herself she bought larger she bought a larger number of cheap hamburgers from a nearby hamburger stand and kept them in her desk which led to the nickname burger a name she preferred to be called by over the next 20 years rather than her birth name around 2003 heineman was diagnosed with gender dysmorphia and began to transition to a woman she formerly dysphoria thank you what did i say dysmorphia thank you dysphoria uh she formally changed her given name to rebecca ann uh following transition but beautiful story of life right like crazy to read all about this just on the wikipedia page but yeah so many people were saying so many uh great things about her legacy and so rest in peace to rebecca heineman yeah super super sad 62 way too early fuck cancer uh cancer every everybody's been affected by whether it's somebody in your life or somebody uh that you knew of or somebody used to work with or whatever there's just there's always stories like this and um yeah uh hearts go out to her and her family that's very very sad but quite a life lived in those 62 years story number five new game plus comes to Ghost of Yotei November 24th this comes from the homie Andrew Goldfarb at PS blog on November 24th a free pass for all Ghost of Yotei players will introduce new game plus allowing you to replay Atsu's quest for vengeance from the beginning with everything you earned throughout the campaign yes that means it's time to bring a gun to a sword fight with all the new armors abilities and weapons from your first playthrough available from the start of the game new game plus will unlock after you've finished the main story and will add new harder difficulty options and two new trophies.
52:16There's also a new currency called Ghost Flowers that you can exchange with a new vendor for more than 30 new cosmetics, including new armor sets and weapon dyes, plus 10 new charms. You'll also be able to earn an additional tier of upgrades for your existing armor sets and weapons. Beyond New Game Plus, we also have a new host of new features coming for the base game. Starting with this new patch, you'll be able to replay content in the postgame after you've completed the main story, including a new stats display. We're also adding new accessibility options including directional button remapping and new photo mode features including shutter speed, a composition grid, and new filters.
52:57So are those pieces of armor available in the main, like, I mean, it's only like a new Game Plus thing? Oh, that's a good question. Because I just want all the armors ever. I imagine the way he words it of like, you can only get it through this shop that's only available in New Game Plus. uh andrew go for i'm gonna need you to like send me a little code or something like give me like a what to get new game plus like a dev input thing like up up down down yeah just beat the game yeah
53:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:give me the armors beat that game so quick i'm pretty sure i'm gonna just mainline it i'm getting there i just like i've been so sidetracked by a lot of different things and i've also decided it's probably going to be the game that i play when i'm back at my parents house for christmas because they have a PlayStation there, like the PS5 that I sent over there. I guess it's at my nephew's house, my brother's house. Damn, I got to get that PS5 back from him. Yeah, all this sounds neat. Give me Legends. That's what the streets yearn for. When is that? Next year. February? I don't think they said a specific...
53:58Yeah, maybe there's not a date on it. I think they just said early.
54:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I don't even know what they said early. They said 2026. I'm really pumped for that. Dude. I'm super stoked for it. It was so interesting doing the review and thinking about... like my version of the review because i i gave it an 8 out of 10 right so it was a great game great game but great video great experience but i was thinking back to ghost of tsushima because i remember ghost of tsushima being in my top like five right i loved adored ghost of tsushima and i was thinking but i was like well i felt the same way after the single player it wasn't until ghost of tsushima legends where i was like fucking goat like go to video game just shot up and so i just need that missing piece of the puzzle that'll like take ghost of yote from being an eight to me to being like a, oh, now I'm obsessed with this game.
54:39Okay, all right. Story number six. Ubisoft will report its missing earnings for the first half of fiscal year 2025-26 before Friday. I love this little notation you put in here, this ominous-ass PDF.
54:55Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Dog. The PDF reads as follows. Ubisoft will communicate on its earnings figures for the first half of fiscal 2025-2026. no later than before the opening of trading on Friday, the 21st, November 2025. And then you get a whole bunch of, you know, financial, legal mumbo jumbo afterwards. This is one of those ones where we might need to do a live reaction. I love that. I love the idea of that. We might need to do like a live, because like this is going to be an event. We're about to learn some fucking news this week about Ubisoft and hopefully have live three. do we really want to react to hey it's over guys Trump's son-in-law and the Saudis have bought another fucking game company you think that's where we're going with it you think the Kushner's getting into more kernels it's just depressing I can only imagine it being the equivalent to something like that man yeah i love the i think people would show up for that oh for sure audience i think this seems like it could be employment viewing yeah that sounds like a very very exciting thing um i do want to uh well actually you know what we will get to super chats later because uh so far it looks like there's a big amount of super chats blessing oh nice but if i wanted something smaller say the tiniest news i need to know about where would i go you go to our last news story the we news channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know did you put the numbers wrong i was wondering for which part well because it said there was seven stories but like we use a seven we knew yeah we knew is always a story yeah yeah did you see someone in the chat blessing uh saying i always knew plus was toxic oh you learned that today no i've always been toxic yeah we news this one uh comes from knoble says mafia the old country free ride update launches November 20th, including car and horse races, combat challenges, first person driving, photo mode, classic difficulty, new weapons, charms, cars, and outfits, and a cinema Siciliano mode.
57:12Wow. Siciliano. Yeah, that's cool. You can also apparently explore the small open world now in free room. Wow. Is it bigger or smaller than Lumios in Pokemon?
57:28I would love a world compared. You know, whenever there's like a new GTA and it's like, look how much bigger the map is compared to, you know, the last map. Desson Laguerre used to do those at IGN where you'd like walk across like the entire like Fallout 4 map or something like that. Desson, get on that.
57:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. What's the Giosi Yote like cinematic mode called? Kurosawa? Yeah. Yeah. It's like the Siciliana mode, like the equivalent. I'm not, that's not a joke. well because as you say that i just imagine like the border is like you know pepperoni and oregano and like mozzarella on the side mozzarella uh tomb raider the legend of lara croft season two premieres on netflix damn they made a season they're making a season two it's coming out dude good for that yeah that's wild is that the announcement yeah i didn't even i didn't I didn't even like put it together. It's that Lara Croft show. I didn't know the first one was successful enough to really.
58:26Good for them. To really, you know, justify that. Interesting. Fantastic.
58:32Blessing Adeoye Jr.:So Siciliano, a dance song or instrumental piece in 6, 8 or 12, 8 time. Okay. I'll look up more. I like that. Farming Simulator 25 has sold over 4 million units. Mega Zerora Mega Zerora I don't know which Pokemon that is Has been revealed for Pokemon Legends ZA DLC Mega Dimension Picross S Capcom Classics Edition Oh that's a cool looking Pokemon I was about to say the opposite This guy looks fucked up I like this fucking dude Immerse yourself in Cinema Siciliana mode For a vintage film aesthetic Take the Oh that's all they say oh is this the version of the pokemon that that looks like an x or y the dylan says that it uh the homie cyber bone cyber bone says that i look like the first version or the second version of it oh i can see the electric cat thing i like this dude i like he kind of looks like a digimon i can see something especially with the yellow that you're wearing right now somebody called us um somebody chat called us mustard and ketchup uh different one different one than chat but same color scheme the blue and the yellow and the black um we have a picross s snk classics and neo geo edition launches november 27th on nintendo switch and massive news everybody everybody batten down the hatches put the kids to bed lock your doors.
1:00:02I'm surprised this was Wii News. Because season three of Twisted Metal has been confirmed.
1:00:09Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You know, I cater to the news based on who's on the show sometimes. And so if Tim was here, this would have been story number one. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. This is definitely one of those. Because at the end of Wii News, I'm the type that goes, there's a lot of other IP. We can have TV shows. I put this at the end of Wii News so we can kind of have that curve. Yeah. And on like a high. I can't complain, though, because right now there's still an Elden Ring movie going to be made. Yeah. You got everything you're asking for. I liked the screenshots of Zelda, of Link and Zelda. Okay. I thought they looked good.
1:00:43I have a Mass Effect TV show being worked on.
1:00:46Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yep. I'm kind of getting everything I want right now. What's on your shirt? Citizen Sleeper. You need a Citizen Sleeper movie. Dude. TV show? Have you watched Alien Romulus? No. That's on my list. Okay. I got a backlog of movies. The movie rocks, but the first 30 minutes of that movie, I was like, dude, this is what the Citizen Sleeper movie should be if they were ever to make something. Like, it's just the perfect sort of set design and everything. Citizens don't sleep on Citizen Sleeper. You better not, chat. Everybody better play it, please. It's so good, man. It's so good. That's it for weenies, everybody.
1:01:22Let's get to some super chats and your wrongs.
1:01:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I have so many questions about the Siciliana mode because, like, I don't find any. I got a lot of questions about this. Because Kurosawa, I guess, yeah, I'll look. I'm looking into it more, guys. Because, like, what you're looking for is you want. What's the history? You want an Italian director to have, like. Yeah. Oh, that's that person's mode or whatever. Yes. But. All I can find is Andrew Siciliano. Oh, NFL. Yeah, an American sports television maker. His ears are humongous. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow. They're, like, the same size as mine, but his stick out a lot. This guy, no sports. He's got, like, the.
1:01:58Yeah. Andrew Cilliano, that guy rules. Here's some Super Chats. Samson L,$2 Super Chat. Thank you, Samson. It says, Andy, you're thinking of Luxray. No, it's not. Okay, good. Thank you. Needed that. Thwarted Junk with a$10 Super Chat says, with Bless bringing up the nomination deadline for Game Awards this year for Dispatch and Arc Raiders, what happens to GTA 6 next year, push back for the deadline, or is it a 2027 GOATI contender? It all depends on whatever Jeff decides to do. yeah i mean mario siciliano was an italian film director screenwriter and producer i don't know if they named it after him or that's just because you know it's that's a good call
1:02:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:is there a is there a dev at the studio named siciliano where's this no it's got to be this dude he's a film director screenwriter for 40 years that seems pretty legendary so for gosayote they're like oh yeah we got a kurosawa mode one of the most acclaimed like you know prestigious directors were time for them they were like i'm sorry the italians didn't have anybody bigger blessed you do though don't you have i think italians have like what's his name we got mario godfather yeah what's his name but he's an actor you know okay italian directors you got like you want like a scorsese or something yeah but i didn't want to assume
1:03:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:i wanted y 'all to say i guess i assumed but i didn't want to say it out loud because i'm like what if it's not oh god uh chase wilson with a two dollars super chat says i highly recommend watching that high score doc five dollars he would chat from smoke me a kipper says scotland qualified for the world cup last night see you bitches next year parentheses if trump lets us in oh yeah uh most of you people look white so i'm okay with you guys uh mad rocks five dollar super chat says went to vegas on thursday won ten thousand dollars on saturday got back home on sunday and i think i'm now sick due to the rain during that time worth it worth it nk is crazy yeah You can cough in my mouth for 10K.
1:04:16Because he got sick. I'm saying the trade-off is bad. Oh, okay. I was like, what? Not randomly. You could spit in my face. Spit in my mouth. Superchat from Kebab says, why didn't Dave the Diver do this? I'm assuming you're talking about giving up the debut indie or best indie. I forget whether it was nominated for one or both. Maybe it was both. I think it was just best indie. But like. Hmm. This is just a different situation, though. This is like somebody who had developed a lot of games before and then went under a different. It's the different name part.
1:04:52Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, I think it's more clear cut. This one. I think the best indie slash independent thing is more. I don't know. I just don't think there's like a good definition of it. Yeah. People disagree on what indie means. I think you're expecting the data diver devs to go. Hey, we have a lot of funding and a lot of employees. We're owned by Nexon. So we shouldn't be there. where this is a different situation. But like Barry, my point is that people disagree. Like people are arguing about whether clear obscure is an indie game, right? Like I think that's more so the thing. Everybody send your financial books to Jeff Keighley.
1:05:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. If your game costs more than$500 ,000. If it's pixel art, it's indie. If it's not pixel art, it's not indie. The Portland Kevin,$5 Super Chat, says, Last week I released a podcast episode of PlayStation Plus Game Club focusing on Sword of the Sea. Game is great. Like a mix of Journey and Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk That's what I always thought they were saying That's what I thought that said as a kid too You know they're saying Amoeba Bear? That's crazy Lucid Dream That's the super chat where Lucid Dream was also recommending Sword of the Sea The Big Tuna Wow we got a fucking I can't think of his name Bill Parcells former NFL coach With a$5 super chat It says birthday tax and finally actually able to catch a live KFGD appreciate all you guys do Thank you Big Tuna Happy birthday to you.
1:06:10I'm glad you spent it with us. I hope you found some joy, some sadness, some happiness. I hope you explore all of your emotions today during Games Daily, because I think it was one of those.
1:06:22Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. Do you think, because why not do it Scorsese mode? You'd have to talk to them, right? Yeah. Did they talk to the Kurosawa people at the Kurosawa Estate? Oh, yeah. You can't use that name without it, yeah. Okay, that makes sense. A thousand percent. They were able to talk to Siciliano. No offense to Siciliano. Seems like a cool guy. But here's the other thing is like, I do wonder if there's a little bit, I have to look into this just because. Please do. I want to say like, even though Scorsese, obviously Italian man, but born in America, right? Sure. And so. I see. I see what you're saying.
1:07:03They want to look for someone who might actually, you know, be from the country who has like a very specific style that might actually represent the culture of filmmaking there. I see what you're getting at. Yeah, I like that.
1:07:15Blessing Adeoye Jr.:When you say Sicily is also where it is set. That has to be hard. That's true. That is also, yeah. I brought that up earlier. Okay. But like, that just means like, you know, then that's like calling a modem go to Tsushima Japan. You know? You know what I mean? Sure. If that's the case, it's stupid. It's kind of weird. I do want to make a call out right now. This has nothing to do with the show, nothing with anything. It's just like, this is the place where more eyes and ears will be on it. Ken Jr., in the Twitch chat, who's usually in the Twitch chat, a long time ago, in a Gossie far, far away, you won a giveaway for your Hollow Knight Silksong drawing where I drew the green prints for you.
1:08:02And I need you to check your Twitch whispers so you can tell me your shipping address and all that fun stuff. So reply to me on Twitch whispers, please, so I can get that shipped out today. 1:08:24Blessing Adeoye Jr.:That's all I'll tell you, Kebabs. She writes in and says, also, the word smoke has no plural form, similar to fish and sheep. you understand that this is a meme because tim said it one time yeah and when i say where there's smokes there's flames i'm referencing the time tim said it because it's funny well yeah it's technically fire i had to i had to make fun of uh i had to make fun of sky tech for doing something similar sky tech i love you in the twitch chat but did something very very similar where i was talking about the genres that i want for the game awards uh for game direction to be more towards innovation you know and i said claire obscure would be still nominated in my like innovation thing because it's the first turn-based game to ever do yeah like real-time parries and it's the first one ever there's never been another game that's ever tried that it's the first one and the first one only and skytech was like come on there's mario this and that i was like skytech you watch me enough to know i'm fucking around skytech come on guys come on come on uh nitro with a super chat says some insight on fortnite fortnite creative is a is kind of limiting compared to something like unreal or unity or even dreams most are maps rather than games for monetization successful maps get a slice of fortnite revenue based on engagement see but that leads to more questions than answers for me because i know that but then it's like if you're making something in unity creating in fortnite is more like creating something in halo forge yeah you know but like if i made hollow knight i wouldn't i i guess like what does putting hollow knight and halo forge look like is my question hmm dionesis says everyone watch skill up skill up sorry i say dionesis i say dionesis i say dionesis because rush says dionesis in one of their songs Rush is real nerdy like that I love Rush Gonna see him next year Really excited Gonna see him in Toronto With Tom Bach Wow Oh that's a fun one Yeah he was like Dude I have to watch Rush in Toronto I was like Hell yeah dude Tell me in dude It's cool Bus this has been a fun episode Of Kinda Funny Games Daily Yeah Thank you everybody For watching and hanging out With us If you love what we do Support us with The Kinda Funny membership On Patreon or YouTube To get all of our shows Ad free Watch us record them live And get a daily exclusive show.
