0:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Today's gaming news stories include, is PlayStation 6 coming in 2027? is the gta 6 physical disc never coming and is xbox pausing third-party game pass deals of all this more because this is kind of funny games daily
0:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:yo what's up welcome to kind of funny games daily for monday june 29th 2026 i'm one of your host blessing at aly jr joining me is the legend greg miller behold you're looking good today what's up you're looking great today g spot how's it going i'm great man i'm ready to rock and roll oh yeah what's this what's the shirt you're rocking i'm wearing a sonoma raceway uh sweatshirt i bought at the nascar races this week oh i do a kind of funny best friend who works for nascar who got me jen and ben in there went to the nascar race did we had the vip tickets we got to meet the driver go on the truck ben was happy as a little kid could be i think i saw i saw the gen post of being like imagine being ben yeah yeah because that's what we're talking about like now we just woke up and it's just a Saturday.
1:23Yeah. And we're like, we have somewhere to take you today. We just come to this lady. He never knows. He's never going to know he's doing stuff. You know, like everybody around him had to pay for tickets. He's just walking around, having a great time, seeing everything. That's a beautiful thing. Gigantic things at chicken fingers, wearing his monster, Jamie, or protecting having a blast. He had a great time.
1:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Oh, that's really fun. Yeah. It was really loud. Really fun. Awesome. How's your weekend overall? Exhausting. Yeah. Be out in the sun all day with that running Well, I mean, first off, of course, shout out to everybody for your support of the Andy and Greg make a live stream, live album, live stream. That was Friday night, which of course immediately put me behind schedule on being how tired I'd be then to do the whole Sonoma thing, be up there in the sun all day long, have a beer too. What are you talking? I got me dad out there. And then yesterday was just Aaron day. Like Jen's been, we chased down this bookshelf.
2:11She wanted that she, that for our kitchen or whatever, you're going to love it for Christmas Eve. When you come over, it's gorgeous, but it's humongous. so she had to hire lugs or lug i've never heard of it but the two dudes with a box truck that came and moved but it was like this is an app lug app i don't know website i don't really know i don't really ask questions you know what i mean she took care of it like two men are here i had to be there i had to be there when they were getting it and then i we you know brought it back home and tore apart the entire kitchen putting it in there but it was good oh yeah yeah
2:36Blessing Adeoye Jr.:awesome yeah i'm also i was at a very tired weekend very busy weekend because friday went down to san luis obispo sure nailed it which is a town that i know of now yeah a very beautiful town like have one of those moments where i'm hanging out with friends down there and i'm like what if y 'all just moved here yeah what if y 'all just moved down they call it slow for sure what if y 'all just moved down to slow um really beautiful area one of the most gorgeous weddings i've ever been to i saw the photo it was very pretty they cut their cake with a sword cut their cake with a whole sword because the thing was dnd themed love that which was beautiful as well because they put it in the invites of like hey this is the theme you can come with your traditional wedding outfit, which I did, right?
3:13Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Or you can, like, you know, make it more fantasy themed. And there was one group that did show up. Like, this was a renaissance. As long as it wasn't one person. No. That's terrifying. I assume they're all, like, in the same group of friends. Of course, yeah. Me and my friends were looking at them and were like, oh, they did it right. Yeah. Like, we should have been doing this. Talk to me any wardrobe malfunctions. I know you go out there, you bust a move, you sometimes bust a seam. Not this time around. The closest thing was I, so I thought I had a pink bow tie at home. Yeah. Turns out I didn't.
3:42Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And it was too late for me to just order one on Amazon because it was like the day before and it wouldn't arrive. And so I was like, shit, okay, I really need a pink bow tie to make this outfit work. Yeah. You can't just walk into any old Macy's and get that. No, I had to go to Men's Warehouse. Oh, you're right. The way you look. Yeah. I guarantee it. And here's the thing. I feel like I got swindled because I looked at that pink bow tie and I was like, how much is this? And they're like$50. And I was like, 50. They know they got you. Is it a clip on or was it actually a tie to the bow tie? It was actually a bow tie.
4:07Do you know how to tie a bow tie?
4:09Blessing Adeoye Jr.:No. Okay. Well, no, I guess it was a clip-on. Okay. Which seems like it'd be even cheaper. Yeah. But like, it's actually one that like wraps around and you like hook it. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. It was that one. Yeah. It was$50. I was like, this is like$15 on Amazon. They got you. What was the fabric though? You know, it was a nice fabric. It was all right. Yeah. Yeah. That, I mean, this isn't, you know, as we all know from going to the Cal Academy of Sciences and going inside the planetarium and watching the tiny chef presentation, us not supporting fast fashion is a way to be environmentally friendly.
4:39So by not getting the cheapo that you're going to wear it to and it's going to fall apart, throw away, Amazon thing, maybe you're buying quality.
4:46Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Okay, well hopefully that quality is worth$50 for the bow tie and then also$40 for a black belt. Also, I somehow lost my dressy black belt. Had to buy that at men's warehouse too. Spent a lot of money that I didn't want. That hurts 90 bucks right there. Yeah, it was 90 bucks where I was like, I'm investing in this wedding. I'm saving a lot of money by driving down with a friend and doing all these things. And so I didn't feel too bad about it, but I was like, ah, I was not expecting it to be this expensive and I'm cheap. And so I didn't like that, but had a really fun time at the wedding, came back, tried to rest as much as I could on Saturday because we drove back up on Saturday.
5:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You say this, but then you put up a thing that you were in a wrestling match. Yeah, I was in a wrestling match on Sunday. That was Sunday. That was yesterday. My friend Eric had a surprise birthday party where his wife, Nicole, they love wrestling. And so they put on like a wrestling pay-per-view basically where they got a big inflatable bounce house that was shaped like a wrestling ring and put together like the match card. She asked all the people she invited. She's like, who wants to get in a match? I thought everybody would be jumping in. It turns out there was only three matches and I was one of them and I was leading off.
5:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:They called you bicep poppy. I was happy to see the name stuck. Yeah. And like, there's no rehearsal. There was no practice. Sure. It's like, how hard were you going? You put up one story of just two people hopping around. And I couldn't tell if they were actually in sumo suits, if they were actually going to wrestle, what happened out there. So the second match, which is what I put the thing up for, was Nicole and one of her friends. And like, they're basically just hopping around. Right. And like, they did a whole quick thing. I didn't know what the vibe was. Yeah. And so I go in, it's the first match and I'm like, we got to set the tone.
6:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. And I'm paired up with a guy who does not watch wrestling. There's no wrestling at all. You just beat the fuck out of him. And so like, I'm talking to him. I'm like, okay, this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to call the match. I'm basically going to tell you what to do in the moment. And so like the match I think went on longer than anybody else thought it was going to because I'm choreographing it out like an actor. You're trying to build a story in there. I understand. And so I'm in there and we start off and I'm like, Dave Meltzer five-star rating. I'm like, I'm going to do a drop kick.
6:42Blessing Adeoye Jr.:He's like, what's a drop kick? And I'm like, just watch. And I hop up in the air. I make sure not to touch him because my biggest fear. I was going to say, you're fucking Goldberg versus Bret Hart right now. Watch the kick. Come on. My biggest fear is anybody getting injured. And so I'm like, I'm not going to, we're not going to make contact for the most part. But yeah, I do the dropkick. They put out like a fake chair outside of the ring. So like I go, I'm playing a heel. And so I go, I roll out, I grab the chair. And then I do a fun thing with the referee where I'm like trying to enter the ring with the chair.
7:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But then like he keeps following me. So I keep trying to run to the other side of the ring. Like it's a Looney Tune. Then I throw the chair into the thing and it hits him and he falls down. And then I end up fireman carrying him. I'm like, do you know the John Cena FU? And he's like, yeah, I'm like, okay, I'm going to do that. so I fire me and carry him I'm like terrified to throw this man down because I'm like I'm not going to throw him a lot of people say they know moves, they don't know moves yeah, it's all like gently kind of like throw him down on the leg side on the wrong side but safer it was a whole thing but ended up being a fantastic match I'm sad that it seems like there's no recording though but it was a really fun time that sounds like a great time very fun weekend, also a very fun day of news today because remember, if you're watching live you can be a part of the show by super chatting in over on youtube.com slash kind of funny games we have a lot to talk about today we couldn't do this without our support of our producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you to carl jacobs omega buster delaney the song twining and lax nomad for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news we have six stories today a baker's dozen starting with our number one sony says it won't sell hardware at significant losses as playstation 6 costing a thousand dollar rumors continue this is from tom henderson at insider gaming sony has said that it doesn't intend to sell its hardware at a significant loss as playstation 6 rumors continue to swirl that the console could cost a thousand plus dollars the news comes following a rumor last week that the playstation 6 currently costs around 960 in materials the news came during sony's latest q a session where sony was asked to provide an update on their current plan around hardware pricing and profitability in response ceo hideyaki nishino said quote first we regard hardware as the base for providing the gaming experience and by offering products such as the playstation portal remote player aka the ps portal We aim to provide experiences tailored to users' play styles beyond the living room, which has traditionally been considered the primary usage environment.
9:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:He continued, As for pricing, it is not realistic for us to absorb all component cost increases, and we have already implemented some price increases outside of Japan. At present, however, sales are proceeding as planned, and we do not believe this has led to a decline in customer demand. Quote, As a principle, we do not intend to sell hardware at significant losses. At the same time, we are carefully monitoring the market and continuing to evaluate our approach. We believe it is important for us to make every effort to ensure that customers fully understand the value we provide in relation to pricing.
9:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Traditionally, PlayStation has subsidized its console prices by a couple of hundred dollars in the hopes of flooding the market with consoles and making profits on software. however it seems like the current ram situation has made that unfeasible according to rumors the playstation 6 is currently planned to launch in 2027 which are rumors that i believe swirled over the weekend have you seen this 2027 thing floating around i haven't seen it more than usual i feel like i've heard that for a while that that's what people have been targeting for next gen yeah which has been i think i've seen like the back and forth of it where we talked a lot about it seems that next gen is being delayed into 2028 2029 i'm going to pull from vice um for this latest round of rumors right talking about playstation playstation 6 won't be delayed to 2028 or 2029 according to an industry insider uh this is deanie connelly at the vice amid the computer component price crisis and other global economic factors one industry insider is sticking to their prediction on the playstation 6 launching in 2027 there have been different rumors and leaks regarding the next generation of PlayStation hardware for months.
11:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Many of those rumors have been suggesting a late 2027 release window, but a recent industry report from Embracer Group suggests that Sony will be waiting until 2028 or 2029 to launch its next generation of console hardware. In response to that report, one industry insider seems to firmly disagree. The Embracer Group findings were posted to a discussion thread on NeoGAF, and Kepler L2 responded with a simple and concise it's always sunny gif of Frank shaking his head and saying, nope. Kepler L2 is a fairly trusted source for insider Intel, and the account has already claimed that Sony is planning a 2027 launch for PlayStation 6.
11:37Blessing Adeoye Jr.:According to this latest response from Kepler L2, they don't appear to think the current industry conditions are going to change those plans. Although Kepler L2 didn't expand on their feelings, they did give a thumbs up to another user who argued this logic against a delayed launch. Quote, delaying the console when it's basically done doesn't make any sense. they have tsmc contract for production of apus maybe even gddr7 contracts with memory makers are indeed done that costed them a few hundred millions ps5 uh sales are slowing down and there is no guarantee that memory prices will drop between now and 2030 releasing in 2027 several million units sold before 2030 when price drops you just lower it and gain massive market share um they didn't go on but the uh the the summary of it is that this insider liked this whole post kind of giving this reasoning here greg yes where are you at with the with the thousand dollar mark for playstation 6 i know we've been talking about a lot as far as this is just where hardware is at at nowadays yeah probably yeah i i think it is crazy yeah it's like there's so much to throw around and talk about, right?
12:50There's a quote, a super chat from Volk Dasher, right? Who says, I know I'm the bad guy, but a thousand dollars for a PS six slash Helix is kind of okay. It's a natural price progression we've seen for decades with tech. So now it's about me. This is the thing where it's like, yeah, I see it. I don't even know if it's a natural progression as much as where we are right now with memory, memory loss, right? And what we're going on and the component crisis and people saying it's not, you know, 2020, 2030 at the best for getting a little bit better there being a lawsuit now maybe they're all working in conjunction to jack up the prices like there's a million things going on that trickle down into our little video game world and fuck everything up for us and so yeah a thousand dollars does not sound crazy when we're looking at the xbox series x going up to 800 like yeah what are we talking about and then of course here we have the brand new steam machine right which has older parts inside of it and we're already over a thousand for both models so yeah i think honestly the most salient point in here is the the liked posts and the rationale inside of it of like well no you've already paid for it you've already done the thing you're already making the things what do you have to gain by keeping product on the shelf like we're no longer in a world i think every day it gets a little bit better that people understand how fucked they are every day some i forget if it was you and no it's tim and mike on friday right there tim was running through all the changes coming to apple stuff where the only things they haven't increased are the phone and something else but everything else is going up exponentially and it's like that is going to continue to happen and everyone is going to wake up of to how fucked we are and you're going to hold on to your devices for longer unless you are that i have expendable income our disposable income this matters to me and so back to that post right that's so many gamers like i saw it went through in the free chat while you're reading over there on the twitch side of somebody saying so basically if you're thinking about being buying a PlayStation five don't and save your money for the PlayStation six.
14:46Like that's a headspace. So many people are in, let alone the headspace of why I want the most cutting edge. And I have the, I don't have kids or I don't have whatever I'm in a place just financially where I can get a thousand dollar PlayStation and I love it. Like that is going to happen. And it's going to sell the units that are released. It's back to how wrong I was about a PlayStation four pro when they did that whole announcement. And me and Colin were just like, why would anyone go buy this right now? It's still bad on the, it doesn't download your games faster. The interview and then so many people did complain about it and then just bought it.
15:19And then it became the model as you went forward. I think what we're going to see with the PlayStation six project Helix generation really is this more than ever. We have a product lineup for you. Yeah. Yeah. There's the PlayStation six and it runs things better, but we are making dual versions or whatever it's going to be that PlayStation five users are not left in the cold right away. like I think you're going to see more and more cross-gen than ever and obviously bells and whistles and reasons that the PlayStation 6 version is better in the same way we talk about Miles Morales at the launch of PlayStation 5 but being on PS4 same thing with like bug snacks right but it's still there because they know the money is in the PlayStation 5 units they've sold and then you have these whales that I am one of that are like well I need the cutting edge I need the thing I need to have it right out the gate blah blah and then hopefully knock on plexiglass as you are the changes the economic headwinds go we go to a more historically accurate market where it is like cool we are three years into playstation 6 and we're able to bring it down to 800 for whatever model we're doing because of components and maybe that never happens maybe i'm wishful thinking yada yada yada but like you get the money from the people who want to jump and then you get the money eventually from the people whose playstation 5 dies or they there is a game that matters to them like a grand theft auto hogwarts legacy a madden that is using those bells and whistles in a way so it's like it's the same argument we've had for console generations forever it's just now we are in a different tax bracket of who can actually get it but to the point of the post over here playstation making these things and going well fuck we're gonna have to sell them so expensive let them sit in a warehouse that's an even worse deal of you're
17:03Blessing Adeoye Jr.:putting out money and getting no money back what do you think would be the compelling reason for you talk about the bells and whistles you're gonna you want to play the best version of this what bullet points what features can they talk about with the playstation 6 to make you go oh i want to play i want to buy a playstation 6 to play god of war laufay as opposed to just playing on a ps5 me personally or is that at large i mean either either one i think me personally there's it would be convenience factors it would be low times it would be fidelity it would be okay we are running rather than choose between performance and fidelity right you were just running at this one runs at 124k whatever it is that's able to hit those benchmarks or whatever but even then i don't know would it be out the gate i i if if i'm a consumer right now if i'm not in the industry you you this would be a big you gotta prove it to me you gotta prove because i because i agree with you in terms of the historical thinking of yeah if you prove enough to your audience that this will make your game run that much better this will make your gaming experience that much better then yeah the reasons will be there for people to spend a thousand dollars and we're talking about these astronomical prices and i'm saying a thousand dollars at the bottom right like i'm thinking 1300 1400 1500 as far as that's the thing where if you can hit 99 999 99 i'm gonna be impressed based on steam machine based on the current thing of xbox based on how much is a playstation 5 going to cost when we get there yeah and i don't think you're gonna hit that like i don't even one of the conversations that we then i'll make my way my way back to the my way back um but like when steam machine announced their price one of the things i kept saying online was like price of next gen price of next gen and i'm looking at the steam machine i'm like isn't this shit current gen like isn't this aren't we comparing this to like a base ps5 at most in terms of the power of this thing this is not the cost of next gen this is the cost of current gen next gen is gonna be way more expensive when we're talking about this and so like i think even a thousand dollars in our headline i know we say over a thousand dollars but the thousand dollars is low-balling right like i think when we're talking about it more accurately we're talking about hundreds of dollars and be even beyond that um but to make my way back to the original point if you're charging that much for a playstation 6 right yeah you want the bells and whistles you want to be able to prove that prove that to your audience but i think we've reached such an interesting place as far as where we're at with hardware because you're talking about load times, higher fidelity.
19:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I'm not really convinced that that's a thing that you can really market to your audience. Like, what's a faster load time than what we have now? When you build up Ghost of Yota. Especially at 1K, and just to give some historical context, because that Super Chat was saying, you know, increase over the gens, right? PS4 launches at$399. PS4 Pro launches at$399. PS5 all digital launches at$399 and then disc$499 and now we're talking about an exponential rise in cost with like less being able to sell less on like what this new gen can do and that's the whole crux of the issue here is like I think you have and I say this lovingly I don't because there's all of us and again it's different for us how we are but like Mike Drucker buys every console that comes out.
20:16Michael shit on it and make funny jokes about it. Cause that's what he does. Drucker's hilarious. I love him. He writes the dice monologue every year, but he'll be the one who buys it all. And so it's like, I imagine a PS six, he would buy right out the gate. Whereas I think there's going to be so many people who are going to be like, okay, we'll wait and prove it to me. And I think PS five pro saw more of that. I feel because people are already happy with PS fives, but I do think to some regard, they proved it when you see it, when you play a game on PS five, but how much is that worth to you?
20:41And I think like, again the conversation we keep coming back to right there is uh Aaron Lime with a super chat a digital PS5 used to be 350 this is insane it may be our current situation but people need to not accept it NVIDIA Micron all these guys are screwing consumer electronics they are and I but I think the other thing is like to the Apple conversation it's screwing everything and so now we're no longer talking about do you just want a more expensive PlayStation it's like well yeah do you want a more expensive playstation and an iphone and gas and you know i mean like we just yeah everything in the world is going up so horribly right now where it's like i think it's going to be a brand new situation as many times as we've lived it of like here we go well this is what it costs and you're like okay but are people going to follow that no yeah i think that's a tough
21:27Blessing Adeoye Jr.:thing is i i you need some kind of value proposition is my thing right you need something to go oh this is why i would buy a playstation 6 and like um for the most part throughout using historical context it has been both the jump in fidelity or technology and then also exclusive games yeah and for the the chatter earlier on that was like so i just saved my money for a playstation 6 it's like well you buy playstation 5 you probably have years and years of playstation 6 life cycle to where those games are still coming to playstation 5 and i feel like that might even be the more salient point and i know we've made it but to spell it out of like oh they might delay the playstation 6 to 2028 i think it's more they're they're going to delay the reasons to really buy a playstation 6 it's further out until that's an actual value proposition of why you should go out there and get it and what are they doing on this console that you can only get here because that's the big question of we put out the playstation 6 and cool when is the true first party first exclusive for playstation 6 what is it right a naughty dog game you assume probably a sequel whether it be last of us 3 or another uncharted or whatever oh jesus i don't think that's gonna do that's not gonna do what you need it to do it's got to be something where you're gonna move people and chase people and have them go to do that i mean there will be obviously playstation 6 exclusive reasons to buy it at launch but i really do think this is going to be more than ever console generations are dead and we're bleeding it all together where it is your portal is streaming playstation 6 games even if you don't have the playstation 6 kind of thing are we doing that like that's what you got to figure out and again you know to the conversation we i go back to all the time from the cfo of playstation right being like we're going to and they didn't say but exploit the core audience and the core audience is the playstation faithful and how do you continue to monetize them what do you do with that and i mean yeah the box is one way but there's got to be a bunch of other levers to flip to bring in some super chats matt sanders 2207 writes in and says the playstation handheld is more exciting than the playstation 6 and one i wonder if that's still happening but also to your point i think there is a level of we can embrace the when you're talking about exploring the current fan base we have to embrace that we have an audience that is already built in so can you make a playstation 6 and even a playstation 6 handheld that still handshakes a lot with the playstation 5 and like you know almost in a way you're bringing their playstation 5 audience into the playstation 6 experience that's not a hard cut generation i mean let's i mean you want to wade into that conversation again right is this going to be yet another chance or yet another example where xbox in this historic race between playstation and xbox was just too early.
24:00Every day, I'm a very specific PlayStation user, right? But I see somebody talking about the fact that they use their portal and they don't even own a PlayStation 5. They're having so much fun streaming games and doing this thing, da-da-da. Like, I am stupid. You all know that. But PlayStation portal and streaming technology isn't using the same processing power and RAM and memory that all this other stuff is, right? Because we're streaming, which you're streaming to a million different screens. So it's like, does PlayStation even flip that script eventually of like, listen, we're putting out the PlayStation six and it is$1 ,500, but we're also putting PlayStation portal two out.
24:37That is a streaming only device as the other one already was, but I don't know what the bells whistle. So it connects to PlayStation six. So you could be, but you don't need the PlayStation six. So you're streaming whatever PlayStation stricts library six library is on the PlayStation plus catalog. Like I'm way out of my wheelhouse and the actual technical guts of it. But I know the guts would be cheaper than a PlayStation six.
24:56Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Sure. and like I mean you're talking about Xbox being ahead of their time I think they had something really strong with looking at this is an Xbox thing I know people hated it overall seemingly but like that was future that was being I guess in the future as far as yo this is what we need in terms of affordability everybody has a phone and so if we can tell everybody your phone is an Xbox you can play Xbox on your phone there's a vision there partnering with Samsung smart TVs and going hey if you have a Samsung TV everybody has a TV in their house for the most part there's something you have some screen that can connect to the internet that we can call an xbox technically yeah i'm not surprised i guess because playstation is playstation and i think they are so focused on their hardware but that is an app that is a lever that at some point i think you will need to push as far as oh shit our shit is just too expensive for people now we need to start getting playstation games in front of them via cloud and have them pay for ps plus in order to access it yeah i think you know we've talked about it at in a large sense before i'll say it right now you can mark the date june 29th 20 26 when not if when xbox gets out of the hard hardware manufacturing business and strictly goes third party i think people are gonna look back and be like man they should have committed that we everything's an xbox because i think people people hated it because they hate all the xbox messaging comes out that is so wishy-washy half in half out yeah are you fucking really doing this and again i blame so much of it on microsoft but that campaign was hampered by people, people, but we still make an Xbox.
26:30We're doing it. You shouldn't be, you shouldn't be, you shouldn't be like either. We're, we should have said we're making Xboxes, their boutique. They're going to be the most powerful thing. And they're going to cost a lot, but you can stream it on your fucking phone and we're off to the races and you can buy our games on the PlayStation. And we are everywhere. We are ubiquitous with gaming. We are Xbox. And instead they went half and half out. It's fucking Xbox one all over again. And now they are on the inevitable fucking train to where we don't make hardware anymore. That is where they are going.
26:56They are going to where we don't make consoles in a way that competes. Again, maybe they, I, even, I think even if they went my way right now and we're like, project Helix is going to be boutique and we're going to be every, I think again, you've talked and jumped around so much that like you see manic, nobody trusts you. Like you should have done it then you should have had a vision. You should have committed.

31:36Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And we're back with story number two, another PlayStation story. PlayStation CEO says company wants to revitalize live service games. This is Alex Forbes Calvin at gamesindustry.biz. The CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hideaki Nishino, has said that he wants to revitalize live service projects through a combination of first and third party content. Speaking to the Japanese media outlet Famitsu, translated by WCCF Tech, the executive said that live service is still a relatively new kind of game and that it is important to continuously provide something. quote, we believe that live service games are content that attracts users on a global level, so we want to continue to revitalize the market through both first-party and third-party content, Nishino said.
32:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:We are not only focusing on promoting new releases, but also considering what we can do with older titles in the medium to long-term. Also, this year we are planning to release our own live service title, Marvel Tolkan Fighting Souls, and we hope everyone will enjoy it. He continued, quote, with live service games, it's important to continuously provide something. The genre itself is relatively new, and I think many people are trying various things, so we also want to continue to take on challenges within that context, end quote. It appears this interview was conducted some time ago. There were remarks that Nishino made about how PlayStation decides what projects are exclusive to its consoles and which come to other platforms, such as PC, that were posted to and discussed on Reset Arrow weeks ago.
33:01Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But the online version of the interview went live on June 26th, the day after Sony announced it was making severe cuts at Destiny Maker Bungie, which the PlayStation Maker acquired for$3.6 billion in 2022. At the time, then-Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan told GamesIndustry.biz that the deal was about multiplayer and live service titles. Barry brought up a meme. From Arrested Development. Well, did it work for those people? No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but it might work for us. Greg what do you think when stories like this pop up I think as always there's multiple things happening it's a CEO talking you gotta talk to your shareholders I mean they can't come out and be like live service is a devil we're never gonna do it you know of course the one the only guy Jason Schreier from Bloomberg Bloomberg has an amazing YouTube channel you should go to where he puts up video essays about all sorts of stuff he has one one called why everyone wants a live service game.
34:07It's excellent. Excellent. Listen. I love or watch. I listen to them on the way home usually. And in there, he talks about all the stuff we talk about in these shows, right? I'm just like, well, you got to shareholders. There's money in those sales. Yeah. Yeah. But of course the fact that live service is a very broad term. We tend to it's fortnight. Oh my God. It's going to be, but it's really any game. You have your audience paying for stuff in over and over again. And you're trying to keep them coming back for right. which inherently isn't bad all right you all these people do want to especially as games take longer to develop you want people playing and we see it now people playing their games for longer rather than buy stuff the ceo of sie has to understand that and be like yeah we're still looking at ways to put live service in i think this is far less bullish thank god than jim ryan being like we're gonna make a dozen live service games yeah you're like what the fuck are you talking about what does that mean you know what i mean so i don't it's the usual this to me reads as newsworthy as when they're like we file a fucking patent for where the tv's gonna talk to your eyeballs and when it's like oh okay are you ever gonna do something with that like yeah i believe it and you know bring up marvel token fighting right like that's a great example of again maybe a game everyone wouldn't think of as live service but they do because they want you to obviously play this over and over
35:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:again and buy different things for it yada yada yeah and i think marvel token fighting souls is not an example you bring up if you're talking about you're trying to chase Fortnite, you're trying to chase Overwatch, you're trying to chase fighting games fighting games do well but they know fighting games are not the most lucrative form of live service slash multiplayer game you know what I mean like I don't in the way that you had a Concord in the way that you have like even the current even though this might be a bad example actually but like the Horizon Hunters Gathering game which is like a three player co-op like almost Monster Hunter like thing I feel like you have certain games that are what does the money tell us it's the way I was talking to Tim on a few episodes ago of like when big money exchanges hands you listen to the money and the money tells you make an extraction make a battle royale what is the trendy thing what's the big IP you have combine the big IP with the new trendy thing and it's like you know I think that's where I roll my eyes and go this Horizon game ain't gonna do shit right like oh Concord being another that's not gonna do shit like I got like you know but i look at a marvel tolcon and i'm like when you say you're you want to do live service this is what i want you to do right like marvel tolcon is going to do what marvel tolcon does that is a marvel fighting game it's going to do good you don't need it to do fortnite numbers you don't need it to be the next money generator you just need it to do good and then release your dlc packs of new characters and call it a day that's the kind of live service game that i think works and is a more is a safer bet i'll say than when we're trying to do launch a new extraction We keep coming down and having the same conversations, but that's the industry right now.
36:53It's about having a realistic scale and scope. Yes. And so if you're looking at Marvel and understanding what this game is going to be, as you think, based on regular fighting games, you have a Marvel IP on that. It's going to bring different people. Yeah. You can sit there and to your point, say we're going to do live servicey stuff to it and not expect to compete with Fortnite. Exactly. Not expect to come out and we're going to be the next, yeah, extraction shooter. We're going to be the console version of rust. We're going to come. We're going to be the next super game. Exactly. Right. That's where you fail when everybody tries to go off and make those things.
37:22Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Speaking of the next Super Game, story number three. No, there is no GTA 6 physical disc coming out at launch or the months after. This is Wesley Yimful at IGN. Viral social media posts and articles claiming a physical disc copy of GTA 6 is in the works are incorrect. Various articles and social media accounts reported that GTA 6 would launch on an actual disc by the end of this year after an image featuring comments from Rockstar support went viral, garnering millions of views. The support email said, quote, you will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months. While the email is legitimate, it does not indicate a disc version is in the works.
37:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the support email was a genuine response to a ticket filed to Rockstar support asking for a disc version of GTA 6. And that while the response was poorly worded, it did not announce any change in policy nor confirm a disc release was in the works. The Hollywood Reporter said a source with knowledge of Rockstar's GTA 6 launch strategy told it there are no plans for GTA 6 discs to be printed, quote, not at launch and not months after, end quote. When Rockstar support mentioned a physical copy, it was referring to the physical version the company had already announced.
38:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The one that comes with just the code in the box. the following months just means following pre-orders going live this week and all the announcements that came with it not the following months after gta 6 goes live in november there were also headlines this week based on a report from from a polish website and its insider who claimed a disc version of gta 6 was due out in december while the report provided fans with more hope it was wrong too real quick you said you called this yeah i remember talking about this a while back a real quick. I, we, I know we talked about a little bit in the GTA, why are you excited for a thing or whatever?
39:07Yeah. The asses are out of control with GTA six. Oh yeah. You watch this trailer. Jesus, the ass on the trailer. I've missed it. I mean, fuck her, her pinned him to the bed. And then she's in this gold dress. Jesus Christ. Bring it back. You can watch it at your own leisure. I always love a new generation of, you know what I mean? A new generation here of gamers. Keep watching. Wait, wait for the gold dress, a new generation of Jesus, a new gen. You know, a new generation of gamers waking up to the fact that you can't you can't trust support. I didn't even know this is from support. This shit happens.
39:40Any of us would have been like podcast beyond when I called the number for the PlayStation support line about, you know what I mean? The physics are physical. Or I call it and they told me Gears of War was going to come to PlayStation. Like they don't know what the fuck they're talking about ever. So it's like I don't get wrong. I would write the article as well. If this came, if I had to, you got to write this article, but I would also be like, come on now.
40:01Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. come on now be like historically yeah yeah this i i think i for me the one thing i saw was the polish website in the insider being like it's coming in december and even that i didn't believe the december part i did believe a disc could come later just because it's a disc will come later yeah period end of statement but they're gonna it's going to come as gta 6 definitive edition with a shark card and this and that and if they do dlc for the like we're talking a while out because they don't want to print they want you to buy this they want as much money as they can from you digitally where they have to spend less money making this they want to double dip they want to triple dip exactly the amount of time like gta 5 sold so many copies because motherfuckers kept buying it because of the shark card in pd forever serkana now forever yeah like any way that they can make they can find for an audience to double dip on gta 6 one a game that'll be one of the best selling games ever they're gonna find it um and i will probably be there for a disc for whatever version it is.
41:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Hopefully it's not like over$120 because that's where I'll probably type out. But I'd like a disc for that. I want to just have it on your shelf. And I want a map. Yeah. Okay. I want the map of the whole. You got to have the map where the other side of it is like the cool poster. Yeah. That was cool. I had that poster in my room for San Andreas. Come on. Story number four. I just, I can't do it, man. No? Like I've given in a few times. Pop posters or maps? Just physical shit. Oh. I've given in a few times. like yesterday I think I was moving some stuff around I looked at like a couple leading up to my birthday I think it was I asked Jen for the uh this hardcover Animal Crossing New Horizons like everything like every item book or whatever and it was one of those like I granted I was playing a lot at the beginning of the year and then I got it and I paged through it once and now just sits in the bookshelf like why did I why did I ask my wife to spend$60 on this thing you know what I mean like I do that all the time just keeping stuff just for it to be there I bought the analog 3D to play N64 games and I booted up to play some DK64 and like some other cartridges but I've not touched it in months but like I'll get the itch a year from now.
42:03I'll be back to Animal Crossing and I'm sure I'll page through it again but it's just like yeah like I don't know. It's hard because I think especially you will I would say gamers at large but you tell me if I'm wrong but when we love a game so much you run out of places to put that love and you want like representation of it but that's why I buy so many t-shirts and sweatshirts You know what I mean? And it's like, that's a great way to do it. But even then, I'm like, I got too many sweatshirts. I got too many t-shirts. What am I doing here?
42:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I feel that. I just like a good coffee table situation. You know what I mean? Have a book there. What's your and Haim's coffee table look like at home? Under it, we have under it my big box of match cards. And then I have the Double Fine art book under there. And I want to say I might have a Cyberpunk art book under there as well. And like the idea being one day we'll have company one day. And they'll be like, oh, let me page through these books. How many times do you page through people's books when you go to their house? Oh, never. Never, but it's neat to have. Real quick aside, this is super quick.
42:58I'm going to give it to you coded because you know more than me. Sure. This past, on Friday, a delivery was made to the office with magic cards. Can we talk about what those cards were?
43:07Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. It was the whole Marvel set. I actually posted on Instagram this morning. You want to know how dedicated I am to the cause? I got back from slow with San Luis Obispo. Yeah, of course. I'm tired. I'm a little hungover. and I still found time to, or I got back on Saturday. That's what it was. And I still found time to come to the office on the weekend to pick up these magic cards because I'm like, I just got, I got to have them. When they announced that and I did the thing where I poked them and remember a blessing, Mike need these, of course, because I do that every time for y 'all. Oh, thank you so much.
43:34I also said, this is what I need. Oh yeah. Yeah. Because again, you know, you and I, I love you and I watch you from afar, but you and I fell in love with magic on the same stream at the same moment. We're both, oh, you've just been able to chase it where I've been in the dad lane in my video games and skateboarding. That's where I am right now. Eventually, Ben, I know Ben's going to come back with me and Uncle Bicep Poppy Blessing is going to teach us how to play. But I was like, so I got that and I brought it home and I put it down in a million other packages or whatever. And I was doing something in the kitchen the other night.
44:03I heard Jen open this up and just go, oh, Jesus. And I went down, I put him in the closet. I'm like, don't worry, though. They will surface when Ben can read. We can organize like a magic stream, some Marvel magic content. Marvel's with my problem is I don't when I come back to magic I'm coming back to magic like I'm
44:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:not gonna I'm not gonna want to just dip your toe in no because I've already forgotten everything we learned I learned from the really the streamer we fell in love sure and I had started playing arena but even then it was like arena allowed me to be too autopiloty with it sure and not really be paying attention so when I come back I'm coming fucking back okay all right we'll find some time story number four Xbox reportedly pausing new third-party game pass deals uh developers say this is jordan midler it's bad video games chronicle xbox is slowing down the frequency of third-party xbox game pass deals according to fernando rizzo partner at caboodle games citing conversations with fellow developers while xbox game pass has largely sold itself on the inclusion of first-party microsoft games at launch their service has also been home to many third-party titles both triple a and indie specifically in the indie space these game Game Pass deals have often been lauded as a way to mitigate risk for developers offering guaranteed money rather than facing market uncertainty.
45:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Now, speaking on the business of video game podcast hosted by Shams Georgiani, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Rezo, alleged that those Game Pass deals may be slowing amid an uncertain period for Microsoft's gaming brand. Well, I was at a trade show in Italy, had some nice lunches, some nice dinners with industry colleagues, said Rezo. Word on the street was that loads of people who were in the frame for Game Pass deals, i.e., you know, nothing was inked yet, but the deals were in advanced discussions. Everybody got the rug pulled out from under them, end quote. When Jojani asked whether Rizzo thinks new deals are kiboshed, Rizzo replied that they're on pause.
45:56Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Quote, I think they're figuring it out. That's my read anyway. But yeah, for the time being, it seems like a Game Pass deal, like we just did one at Caboodle earlier in the year, and I get the feeling that it might have been one of the last ones that they did. End quote. Greg, what's going on here? I mean, the same ramifications we've talked about from the beginning. You know what I mean? When you talk about consolidation and you talk about people having too much power in the industry, this is what you start really talking about. We've always talked about, well, Tencent, well, the Saudis, well, this.
46:28and when Microsoft started buying people you talk about that too but the one thing that does I think get overlooked a lot is this very very terrifying situation where indie games have flourished you know Jeff talking on the stage at SGF saying there's been 9 ,000 games out this year so far not all of them obviously but many are independent developers publishing to Steam publishing to Xbox publishing to PlayStation yada yada and the idea is that for so long getting an Xbox Game Pass deal or a PlayStation Plus deal can come in and go, bam, that has got us. How many times have we heard that story?
47:01That put the game immediately into the black. Like we could sell zero copies and we've made our money back. Hooray, this is great. Now, legitimately, the rug being pulled out from other people in the conversations, but also people who are working on their game getting ready to present to any of these companies, right? Because we're talking about Xbox right now, who is clearly fucking in a tailspin. They're in bad news bears town right now. but I have been to dice for 10 years now, but the last few, there's been the survive to 25 thing where they talked about in 24, right? Like all little funny catchphrase.
47:34This was part of it, not to the severity is now, but it was the idea that like, man, we're starting to tighten belts. It's not as easy to get funding, not as easy to get funding from both publishers, Xbox, PlayStation, et cetera. And I have heard that it's getting worse and worse and worse. And so the fact that, yeah, Xbox has to suddenly batten down the hashes and figure out how to be fucking financially solvent as Satya Nadella is saying it's over. Like it's time to be sustainable. Like yes, third party in that and not third party, like, you know, third party, but third party, including independent developers and your favorite third party developer of a bigger scale.
48:10They are part of this equation and that is terrifying for them. And that is the ripple effect of a house of cards starting to tumble of what does that do? And how, how do you see independent developers figure that out from there and then if you are on the hook if you were there and if that money dries up what actually happens do you think this snaps back as
48:29Blessing Adeoye Jr.:far as these deals happening again because my immediate read on and when the story first popped up was that like many parts of xbox internally they're litigating everything yeah yeah we're litigating exclusives we're litigating our hardware um pipeline and where we're going with project helix game pass is not excluded from that right call of duty already is not is not coming out on game pass this fall we are questioning everything and asha sharma's regime is looking at everything from the phil spencer and sarah bond regime and going poke holes and not even poke holes stop everything and let's poke holes in everything and figure out all the things we need to do to minimize how much money we're losing clean house of anybody who we don't think is making us enough money and refocus on an xbox that's actually going to be successful as opposed to whatever phil and spent phil and sarah sarah had going on yeah uh do i think the funding comes back to xbox game pass so i think they turn this back on turn this back on for the third party same way absolutely not wow no i think this will be a bad news for the industry at large in terms of funding availability i think the real test will be and you go with it but i think the real one One of the first signs will be next year at GDC.
49:41Will we get an ID at Xbox event like we always get over at the fried chicken place? And how many people are there? Because I think that's more the answer. Is, okay, cool. First off, we're Monday morning quarterbacking and trying to read tea leaves. I don't think Asha Sharma and the current regime look at Xbox Game Pass and go, nailed it. I think they look at Game Pass like, man, we sacrificed. if I lost so much money, so much on this gamble that maybe if Microsoft would have doubled down on and let Phil do exactly what he wanted, whatever, blah, blah, but we've lost so much money on this. How do we write the ship?
50:20And I think when you look at all the, I think of the glut of, and this is great for us, indie games that are on Xbox game pass. And then we know for a fact, right? Cause I remember Todd Howard talking about like, Oh, well, you know, Starfield is actually a winner in terms of it's always in the top 10 hours paid of a plate of game pass. If that was the conversation he was having then and what they're looking for, they're looking for games. They're going to keep people invested in the ecosystem. As much as I love them, your two hour, three hour, four hour narrative adventure indie about a dead grandma ain't going to do that.
50:55Sure. That isn't going to, that did dungeons of Hinton Hinterberg, a game I really enjoyed pull in people and get even close to charting in terms of it. Like I would hazard a guess. No, I don't know. I don't know, but I would imagine if I was there and it was like, cool, we need to save money on game pass. It would be cool. Probably ditch every indie that isn't a hollow night. That isn't something that like we look at it. Exactly. Oh man, this is going to bring people in. This is going to get headlines because again, it's become a joke in so many ways, right? Of like Xbox game passes, the best deal in gaming, even when it was$30, that was true.
51:30That was an amazing lineup. Hundreds of games, Netflix of games, so much to go play, find what you're in the mood for right but i don't think it was sticky i don't think i don't think the indie titles were bringing people in and i don't think if you were coming in for at the time call of duty you were coming in for oh i just watched fallout and i figured out i could get it here yeah i don't think you were then saying let me play you play dunce yeah you know what i mean seems really interesting let me jump in a game i really enjoyed right but it's like things people are trying for a night and bouncing off of why are we investing thousands of dollars like my
52:03Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I think it's not, I know we talk about Game Pass being the Netflix gaming. It's not Netflix. Because Netflix, I can watch something every night on Netflix. Yeah. I can come back on Netflix. Discoverability, I think, actually works on Netflix in a way, or on a video streaming service, in a way that on a gaming streaming service has way less impact. Because, yeah, like, if I'm coming for Call of Duty, I am playing Call of Duty for that month. Even if I play Call of Duty for that week and I have two weeks left of Game Pass, I might look on there and play Clear Obscure. I might play one other game.
52:31Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You know, you can't. I feel like by the time you get to a Dungeons of Hinterburg or you get to an ink on beanie, you get to a more obscure title. It's like they're buried beneath so many other popular titles. And it's tough to get there because these games all take tens of hours to get there. And you nail it, too. It's something that I had to stop a show in the last nine to 12 months and ask what I was getting wrong. Because I was talking about the fact of like, what are you talking about? Imagine all the games I've played off Game Pass and you add that up and it's the best value. People are like, no, Greg, it's not because I'm playing two games a year on it.
53:02So no, I could buy those games and get them for$30 and$60 and not pay nearly as much as I pay on Game Pass. And that's the realization they're coming to. So I would imagine, again, my Magic 8 Ball and Crystal Ball, looking at the future of this, it is cool. We're not going to fund all these small games that nobody's, and I love these games, but the masses aren't playing. And instead, yeah, maybe if there's a great third-party partnership for Yakuza or whatever, or some big game that we could get there, let's get it in there. But even then, you've got to change the narrative because people just take, people don't seem to care.
53:37Like, you know what I mean? When we read the games that are coming out to Xbox Game Pass, I'm always like, damn, it's a fucking lineup. But it's not how it is. And now, you know, with me being so into my ROG and the Steam, like the Steam sale, I'm way more in the weeds of than I am what's on Game Pass right now. It's just like, oh, well, like, because to your point, I was like, it curates me better. You play this game and you like that game, so go try this. or like you know even the steam calendar the things that are all the time from my wish list like when i went to the steam page and there's a curated section of like hey moron here's all the games that are out from your wish list that are on sales like shoot i like bye bye bye we're
54:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:talking about all these fests that are happening steam next fest is either still happening or just happened and i have like six different demos downloaded from steam next fest that i still need to get to that i hope are still playable but like i i cruise on on steam right i browse around look at weird i'm like what is uh there's a game called like brekk x or something like that And like, I don't, this game looks fucking sick. I would never have heard of that game on PlayStation or Xbox stores. Because those are, exactly. I think that's the thing. Both PlayStation and Xbox haven't been able to crack and Steam does.
54:39That seems an ecosystem. You come into Steam and you are greeted with your humongous library. And then there's updates from your games you're doing. And then, yeah, if you click on store here, personalized recommendations, yada, yada, yada. PlayStation store, I never open. Yeah. Never open. Even when I redeem a code, I redeem it online. Yeah. And Xbox Game Pass, occasionally, I think, oh, yeah, I should check it out. But what is on here? And for me, with the Game Anywhere thing, there's a different conversation of like, when we go to request a code, I will often do that. But then there's a whole back end thing that none of you need to know about for review codes.
55:10Many times for an Xbox game, you have to be whitelisted. Whereas PlayStation, let's give you a code.
55:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. PC, here's a beta branch. Xbox, what's your IP? I'm like, fuck off. I don't care. I'll play it on Steam. I don't need to get it going. look up some gameplay of breck x i don't know how to spell it for you that game looks sick as hell um and man i gotta get to these steam next fest demos because i have that i got poly fighter which is that fighting roguelike game yeah i got killer aces volleyball that mike told me about and there's a game called kick which is which is like a 2d soccer platformer today's games cast of course is the best games or every game coming out in july so we're about to fill your wish list once again yeah barry high's gameplay up it's like a third person arena fighter think like the ones we talk about for like anime games yeah i was about to say that this looks like the naruto arena fighters that we grew up with but like think of those games but in like a really artsy uh style yeah like a watercolor type art style looks really cool the frames are kind of like uh the way they move is similar to like the spider-man movies and shit i always forget what that's called oh i know what you're talking about yeah it looks like into the spider-verse a little bit uh let's hop over to story number five which is doubling as required reading i've edited it down to be a full story but okay um there's a lot more detail in here that i think is worthwhile for people checking out uh this is from chris scolian at video games chronicle the article titled ram manufacturers have been sued for allegedly fixing prices in supply leading to increased costs it's a story that's very important for pretty much everything that we've talked about on the show for the last year so the three largest ram manufacturers in the world are being sued for allegedly fixing the supply and prices of memory the sharply rising cost of memory is widely attributed to demand for ai data centers with major vendors signing long-term deals with ai firms now is reported by law 360 a class action lawsuit filed by a proposed class of individual and business consumers accuses samsung sk hynix and micron of playing a large part in what's being dubbed ramageddon by the media or we like to call it what greg memory leak memory loss i can never keep it straight ram again it's better the oh damn that's tough that's sorry that's why i take off it's why they're not uh the complaint alleges that the three companies which make almost all of the world's supply of dram have been working together to fix component prices while reducing supply it accuses the trio of reducing its supply of ddr3 and ddr4 ram leading to a sharp increase in price for consumers who use and focusing most of its production on hbm a high cost high bandwidth form of 3d 3d stacked dram mainly used by ai data centers instead of consumers well the dram oligopolists have simultaneously cut production uh coordinated a pivot to hbm and exit from ddr3 and ddr4 and otherwise decreased in locked up conventional dram supply while prices charged up with mind blowing scale and rapidity, it claims.
58:05Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The suit argues that the three companies have control over the DRAM supply and can't be realistically challenged by anyone else because the cost of building one DRAM fabrication plant can be tens of billions of dollars and can take years to complete. It also claims that even if a new company did try to challenge the trio, the process used to reliably manufacture ships comprises decades of accumulated trade secrets and U.S. exports controls bar the only uh only other procedures in china from acquiring current generation equipment as the price of memory and storage continues to rise practically every company using these components has been increasing the price of their products accordingly last week microsoft raised the prices of its xbox consoles between 100 and 150 while apple also raised prices across its hardware products on the same day like greg talked about um with tim talking about it before that valve confirmed its steam machine would retail for over a thousand dollars saying its original goal for the price of steam machine is no longer viable sony and nintendo have also increased the price of their hardware in recent months and analysts suggest further increases could be on the horizon if the situation continues as it appears it will so important world news story that is affecting the world of video games i condensed that down um for the show you know i I was reading for a while there, but go give VGC the click, Video Games Chronicle the click, read the full story.
59:30Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I'm sure there are other people reporting it as well too, but Video Games Chronicles I pulled from. I just remember we wrote a song about Jordan Middler. Oh no, was it about how big he is? Yeah, it was. Well, Greg, Jordan Middler is so big. So humongous. So humongous. But if I went to something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where would I go? You'd go to our last story, the Wii News, where we run you through all the small news items you need to know about. Story number six, We News. From VGC, CD Projekt has announced that it'll be changing its name as reported by financial publication Bankier.pl.
1:00:07Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The Polish company decided at its last general meeting that it would no longer be known as CD Projekt. What do you think they changed their name to? Justin Timberlake walked in. He said, drop the project. Just CD. Did they really not say it? I mean, from this short thing I pulled, I didn't see it. Yeah, okay, no, no. Oh, have they announced it? Yeah, the third paragraph. Instead, following the results of a vote of the meeting, the company is set to have its name changed to CD Projekt Red to match that of its gaming development studio. Oh, so there's adding Red. I should have read the other paragraph.
1:00:37Yeah, it's okay.
1:00:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I guess that makes sense. It's very much a, if you know, you know. THQ Nordic, like, eh. Cool, okay. I guess most people think it's called CD Projekt Red. Yeah, exactly, yeah. Justin Timberlake walked in and he said, add the Red. Add in a red. You're confusing people. Add the red back. From Noble via GameCult, Quantic Dream staff are going on strike as the company reportedly plans to lay off 115 employees. According to the devs, Star Wars Eclipse is dying and cannot be finished under these current circumstances. We're never playing that game. We're never playing that game. Fucking walk out. Shove it up their ass.
1:01:13Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Ever since they released their games as a service in February and nobody played it and then they shut it down three weeks later. and then a report from like last year was like hey if this doesn't work then this game doesn't happen and it didn't work therefore this star wars game is not happening from wario 64 is a really sad one dbrand companion say that after the quana dream thing this is the sad one y 'all quana dream also very sad don't get me wrong uh dbrand companion cube will not be sold and refunds will be issued valve told dbrand to take it down well they stated that the companion cube is Valve intellectual property for which dbrand does not have a license.
1:01:51They just love killing that companion, Coop. They really love it. I love that you're like, this is a sad one. Did you read the entire statement? No. What was it? Bro. Like, I don't know much about dbrand. Obviously, I've heard of him. I know people use him to do stuff with the ROGs all the time, so I see it. And then when they had done the thing, they announced Half-Life 3 when we were talking about it. It was like, oh, they're always up to shenanigans. This sounds so much like, I don't even want to say kind of funny. It would be kind of funny if none of us ever worked at IGN or a real place. This fucking statement is absurd from dbrand on their thing.
1:02:24It's long as hell, right? But the one thing is like, blah, blah, you're running through what happened, right? It went moderately viral. Over 15 ,000 people signing up to be notified of the first day. In the months that followed, we built the idea into something real without ever asking Valve if we could. Then this line, we're going to regret that decision for a very long time. My God. Do not, what? Go make a fucking Mickey Mouse while you're at it. Like, what are you talking about? You can't just take fucking people's property and do this.
1:02:48Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Because this was supposed to be like a thing for the steam machine. Yeah, exactly. They never talked to Valve about it. They're just like, we're going to make a companion cube, but we never, ever fucking talked about it. Make a companion cube for the steam machine is hilarious without ever talking to Valve. Shortly after Valve's legal team reached out, they stated that the companion cube is Valve intellectual property for which dbrand does not have a license. They request, no shit! What are you fucking talking about? This was entirely within their rights, and they were direct, fair, and respectful throughout.
1:03:16What did you expect to happen? How old are you at dbrand? What the fuck are you talking about?
1:03:22Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Have they gotten away with that before? I have no idea. The only way I believe I could maybe understand it would be if they've been doing this with smaller companies. They sign off to everyone, blah, blah, blah. And then to Valve, thank you for Portal. And sorry for the headache. We should have asked first. Oh, my God. Jesus Christ I got a bunch of updates from Evo of course Evo the world's biggest fighting game tournament happened over the weekend here's some announcements did not know Blade Loki you did not know did not know yeah I mean I didn't I feel like I'm usually the one to talk about Evo I didn't talk about it this time around it was a whole thing they got acquired by Saudi Arabia kind of soured some excitement around it but yeah that'll do it whole kill of a journalist that's not you know yeah not great I am excited about some of these announcements though because Blade Loki and Deadpool have been announced as final characters for Marvel Toacon Great trailer.
1:04:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I'm not going to play the trailer here, but if you are looking forward to Marvel Toacon, or if you just like Marvel in general, you should watch this trailer because it has some good bits, including a bunch of Deadpool shit. Yeah, and Loki's also hot. Loki's real hot. Loki's really hot. Real hot. Speaking of Marvel Toacon, that is having an open beta for PS5 and PC set for July 24th through the 26th. Lux and Samira have been announced for 2XKO So putting Tim's daughter in a fighting game? Crazy. That's good. I like that. Bob joins Tekken 8 on August 19th. Yeah, this Loki looks real good. Yeah, I like him.
1:04:51Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Bakunawa Killer joins Virtual Fighter Crossroads. Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star is joining Fatal Furious Day to the Wolves tonight. And Robo-Kai joins Guilty Gear Strive on July 2nd. I have a question, Blessing. What's up? I saw the Bob joins Tekken 8 announcement. Who's Bob? Bob is funny enough Bob is one of my characters that I love he's the big American dude just a big guy I definitely read to me like kind of like a new the new banana of how many fucking fake people and names can we put in this report we'll see how it catches it Bob is awesome because Bob is like I'm like big like gigantic belly but he's flipping everywhere like he's doing fucking back flips he's like one of the most one of the more athletic uh moving characters in the game I'm happy that he's joining because I'm gonna use a lot of Bob he's bigger than ever bigger than ever I want that hat.
1:05:36Blessing Adeoye Jr.:In one of the Tekkens, they added a version of him called Skinny Bob. Oh, okay. Same character moveset, but he's skinny. Wow. I know, it's fucked up. But, like, around the same time, Uncharted added fat Nathan Drake, didn't they? Yeah, but Donut Drake had been around, and then they stopped doing Donut Drake because they thought it was fat shaming. Or somebody said it was fat shaming. I don't know the last time they did Skinny Bob. I think they stopped around the same time. Skinny shaming. I got a good one but I feel like it was misrepresented aren't you too bad I'm confused by the Onigiri on his on his because that can't be his last name I never knew Bob's last name I don't think his last name is Onigiri Onigiri is the these are like rice balls yeah this is what I would have said I mean you can stop I'm not saying that.
1:06:32Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I ain't saying it. Just do it. Just see what happens. See what happens. From Steven Totello, he posted on Blue Sky today, as I reported in Gamefile, 1666 Amsterdam, the new game led by lead creator of Assassin's Creed, was going to be Xbox published before Microsoft cut funding. That means in recent years, Xbox is backing games from him, the Romeros, and Kojima. Not every game pans out, but quite a set of partners. This goes back to our conversation. I was going to say it goes right back to it. Yeah. and i forget was it let me google i'll come back to me yeah there's been like a large handful of games now that seem that were third-party games being published some money from them fell through because i want to say i forget you're probably looking up the same yeah yeah i didn't want to speak out of turn yeah the bruce straley game uh coven of the chicken foot it was initially being uh founded by microsoft before they pulled the phone i was going to say the wu-tang game because i could have sworn that was being published by microsoft as well and then it appeared not being Published by Microsoft.
1:07:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:From Insider Gaming, the CEO of Supermassive Games has stepped down. Oh. In a post on LinkedIn today, Robert Henryson announced that his time at the studio was ending after just over two years at CEO. I don't know why Robert Henryson is a name. I just never heard of Henryson. That gets you. So it's like two first names. Sure. It's like a Burt Meg situation. It's like a Burt Meg situation. And then last but not least, Splatoon Raiders Direct is set for June 30th. And that is it for Wii News. um before we get out of here let me take one peek i know we're late in the show so we don't have much time for some of the super chats claw master says added fgc news snk is going back and rebalancing art of fighting three alongside adding new sprites to the game both yuri and king a 30 year old game is getting an update what that's really cool um volk dasher says hold on hold on i'll read it hi bad guy again i mean will it ever be more valuable ai is sadly the future of our civilization lol so what makes us think ram etc will be more affordable after a few years i think that's not knowing the future it's really cool it comes down to right like i'm i'm not holding out hope that the prices come down after the in the next five years i was just giving you the reason why if your playstation put it out yeah best case scenario those prices come down and you can sell to more people worst case scenario goes up and you have a run on the units you put on the shelves that people aren't buying already yeah that make you happier there also don't give into defeat a defeatism the uh ai isn't i still think we're betting way too big on ai and i do think the bubble's gonna pop i don't think the bubble's gonna pop and we're gonna go back to where we were that's the thing it's gonna come down a bit i think the bubble's gonna pop and everything's going to be real bad like yeah i think both the fork in the road of like ai continues to be the thing and then ai fails both of them are very scary much much like the housing crisis the bubble will pop we will pay for it and then everything else is still going to be expensive and fucked for a while yes um the skull of goodness says ps6 would need to have a massive selection of exclusive games in the early years for most people even consider an over$999 price point.
1:09:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The incremental fidelity increase wouldn't be nearly enough. I mean, I don't think they're going to have a massive selection of exclusives. I think a lot of those games will be PS5. Granted, it's like... I guess it depends on what you mean by exclusive. Do you mean console exclusive like you can only play it on PS6 or just PlayStation games? Because I'm sure they'll have that. I think they mean console exclusive PlayStation. You're not going to have that. And then I'll bring in one more. we gotta go we gotta go we gotta go to games case dante game show yes donto yeah donto 42 writes in and says birthday tax turned 35 this past weekend do you recommend ps5 folks upgrade to ps5 pro and ride that out for most of the playstation 6 life cycle given costs or instead start saving now skip the ps5 pro and go for ps6 instead thank you i mean that's only that's a decision only you can make i will tell you right now i've been googling about like wait i how far behind on iphones am i yeah i should just i need to fucking upgrade an iphone right now before that fucking price increases inevitably coming i'm gonna give you advice that could end up being bad advice in the long run but if i'm in your shoes i'm buying a playstation 5 pro right as soon as possible yeah like or do you have a ps5 do you recommend ps5 folks upgrade yeah so he has a ps5 no don't upgrade okay just save yeah i was thinking you didn't have a ps5 then i would say get a ps5 pro if you already have have a ps5 hold hold save up hold that investment hold that investment save up for the playstation 6 because that shit's going to be expensive you don't need a ps5 pro that bad you have like a gigantic like you know uh oled tv because if that's the case that's more of an argument but no even on a gigantic oled tv the ps5 base still kicks ass yeah but here's the thing right because i played 007 first light on my base and on my pro oh man the pro makes a difference for that one the pro made a difference for me i i thought it was fine the ps5 base i i like the pro better for when i'm playing on the big tvs and all that jazz so it's like it's a you've come so far that if it really playstation 6 is really next year you're gonna get money for these things when you trade them in so Oh, you think he's going to trade him in?
1:11:58A PlayStation 5? Yeah. You got a PlayStation 6? Yeah. Yeah, you're silly. What are you talking about? Keep it. No. History. What the fuck are you talking about? Keep the consoles. No, no, no, no. No? You don't keep all your consoles? Oh, you know I don't. I'm way out of that.
1:12:09Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Oh, man. I'm keeping all the consoles. You're silly. Kind of funny.com slash you're wrong. Wait, can I get one in here? Yeah. At Jack, this guy's griefing, but he paid to grief. So I just want to tell him to shut the fuck up. Jack G12590 Super Chat say, Did I miss Greg's rant on Bungie layoffs? Or is that only for non-Sony Studios? Shut the fuck up. I wasn't on the episode where the fucking Bungie layoffs happened. Of course, I'm anti-fucking layoffs. And no, I'm not fucking such a soy boy. Or what is it? Sony pony. Sony pony. Sony boy. They call me Sony boy as well. But they also call me a Sony pony.
1:12:44I'm not so much a Sony pony. Like, well, that wouldn't make sense. It doesn't make sense why PlayStation fucking bought them. PlayStation's fucking stupid. This is fucking a fucked up industry all over the fact. but we can't come out here every day, Jack, and be like, let me rant about all the people who have fucked up since I was last on a goddamn microphone. Is it a disgrace that PlayStation has fumbled Bungie? What are the devs of this industry? Yes. A hundred. Are you fucking talking? I really seriously look at PlayStation and Xbox bringing in all timers of developers and fumbling them, not letting them publish games, closing them down.
1:13:16They should have stayed the fuck out of it.
1:13:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:While we're here, Nintendo, I got some words for you too. Great job. Nintendo. They give people raises. Great job, Nintendo. Yeah, great job. Honestly, I don't got nothing for Nintendo. I was going to go off, but yeah, they're paying their employees more. That's what I ask of just everybody. Pay your employees more. And you know what? Sometimes it's hard. Give me more. You know what? Actually, no idea I have a rant for Nintendo. Where are the themes at? Where are the themes? We had Switch for, what, seven years, eight years? We had Switch 2. You didn't add more themes to the Switch 2? And honestly, you took away themes by making the Joy-Con colors just inside part of the Joy-Con?
1:13:56What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? Honestly, if that's what you need to be able to pay your employees more, sure. Fine.
1:14:04Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Does that not have themes? There's no way that's really... We're cutting some corners. At the themes. Themes are the first things to go. We're sorry. Give me a theme. Of course, Greg, this has been kind of Funny Games Daily. Oh, you know what? You're wrong. Of course, you write in and let us know what we got wrong as we got it wrong. kebabs says the low frame animation style inspired verse and uh in the lego movies is called frame stop in reference to stop motion that's it kebabs it's not a fucking that's not a you're wrong even though it's funny but it's not a you're wrong i'm not reading it but it was funny kebabs but don't do it again that's it for you're wrong um this has been kind of funny games daily if you love what we do support us with the kind of funny membership on patreon youtube get our shows ad free and get a daily exclusive show enjoy the games cast next after this which is every game coming out in July.
1:14:50Blessing Adeoye Jr.:We got a game showdown after that, and I believe a stream after that. So we're going to have a lot of fun today. But until next time, Game Daily.
