In short
Sony Interactive Entertainment partners with Bad Robot Games (J.J. Abrams’ studio) to produce an unannounced 4-player co-op shooter “directed by Mike Booth,” described as Left 4 Dead-like; the hosts debate whether it can recapture Left 4 Dead’s magic in 2025. The episode also covers Replaced’s release date and a new Avatar-like action RPG trailer.
Guest backgrounds
No external guests appear. Hosts are Greg Miller and Blessing Adioye Jr. (with additional recurring staff/mentions like Kevin, Paris Lily, and Adam, but not as guests).
Key claims
- The Bad Robot/SIE announcement feels like it may be building toward a major reveal (possibly Game Awards).
- Co-op shooters are crowded; Left 4 Dead’s unique “drop in and play” feel (especially its campaign structure and mindshare) is hard to replicate.
- Replaced looks great, but the big question is whether combat lives up to the style and narrative.
Notable examples
- Comparisons to Back 4 Blood, World War Z, Helldivers, and Vermintide/Darktide.
- Replaced: March 12, 2026 on Xbox Series/PC; pixel-art 2.5D cyberpunk thriller.
- The God Slayer (Avatar The Last Airbender vibes): fire/earth/wind/water bending in a steampunk open-world RPG by Pathia Games.

2:36What's up everybody. Welcome to kind of funny games daily for Thursday, December 4th, 2025. I'm one of your hosts, Greg Miller, alongside Forbes 30 Under 30, a.k.a. New York Game Awards nominated, a.k.a. Leftover Poppy, Blessing, Adioye Jr. Good day, Greg. Good day. How are you? I'm doing good. I like your hair. Thank you. Oh, you know why? You know why you like it? Why is that? Kevin, give me the one. Give me the one. I'm using Barbara Dunkelman's hair product. Oh. All right. Round of applause for me for supporting friends. I don't remember what the name of it is. Do you remember the name of it?
3:11No, I don't know what the name of it was. I was going to ask you what the name of it was. Instagram. Robert Dunkelman has a new. She launched a hair care product. She launched it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, congratulations. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I did not like. I talked about this a little bit in Gregway a couple days ago. I'd been an Old Spice pomade guy. Yeah. And then all of a sudden I went into Walgreens like, we don't sell it anymore. And then nobody sells it anymore. So then I bought some other stuff that looks like knockoff act stuff, and I hated it. Hate, hate, hate it. And so, yeah, here it is called All Good, No Worries.
3:38Go to Barb Dunkelman's Instagram. That's where I found it. Google, I guess. All Good, No. There you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, it's got its own Instagram. All good, period, no worries on Instagram. I'm going to follow back. That's a good name. I like that. I'm going to follow back right there. It's exciting stuff. I give them permission to clip this out, not the part where I can remember the name, as an ad. There you go. There you go. Thank you for complimenting my hair. Your hair, of course, looks great. I'm still getting used to the haircut. It's such a throwback to Young Bless when it first started here.
4:04You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, who knows? I might throw it back out immediately. I'm still feeling it out myself. yeah i know you were forced into this situation you didn't want this haircut it just happened well it's not even that i didn't want it i knew that i wanted it lower it's just you know i i didn't make the decision until the very last moment or just cut it all off just go for it and it was like a few days of me being like oh man i should have done that but then like i i really like coming back to this length because it's a reminder that like i look good regardless you ain't lying i look good regardless you ain't lying a few days i looked in the mirror i was like oh i didn't even fucking need that hair if you ever need a confidence boost go look at that uh the u.s cloud strife that photo from halloween you know i mean you look great thank you i'm killing it out there bless you do it every day out here i'm proud of you thanks of course i look worse and worse but no big deal uh if you didn't know we're gonna run you through the nerdy news you need to know about because this is kind of funny games daily each and every weekday on a variety of platforms we run you through the nerdy video game news you need to know about live on youtube.com slash kind of funny games twitch.db slash kind of funny games of course podcast services around the globe.

6:39People always think it's dented or something. But I think it's less that. I think it just looks darker. I think it's just a darker tone. But look, I mean like. Yeah, well, yeah, it's like space gray. But it is. I think it's just catching so many reflections that it looks like. I guess there it looks real light. But like I'm looking at it in real life. Yeah. And it looks dark. What would you look at and say it's burned? I mean, compared to a regular Mac laptop. Sure. Okay. Well, that's just a different color. Yeah. Okay. I think that's what they're saying. No, no, no. I don't like that. Fair enough.
7:04That's not what Mike Like Music is saying. He's trying to start stuff. And then YoCallMeRob says, Blessing 2026. Start growing dreadlocks. That's going to take a while. Have you ever done dreads? No. That's what I thought I was going to do. And then at the last moment, I was like, I actually know I don't want to do it. Shave them off. Yeah, I'll just take it all off. We'll see. I like experimenting. I like figuring it out. I like going with the flow of what I feel like in the moment. Maybe one day we'll do locks. Of course, housekeeping for you. We are an 11-person small business all about live talk shows.
7:32Today, after Kind of Funny Games Daily, you're getting the Gamescast, where we're going through every game coming out in December. After the Gamescast, it's Greg Miller's first hour playing Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. Beyond. And if that wasn't enough, after that, Hunter Pence. Former MLB star, now commentator, Hunter Pence, is coming in to teach the boys how to play Dark and Darker. Exciting. On stream. I'm very excited to see how that goes. I haven't hung out. We haven't had Hunter on enough content, I feel. No. He was part of the launch, obviously, a decade ago. Sure. Decade plus. And then he's been through for a little thing here and there.
8:07But I can't remember the last thing he came on that was content content. I really want to play Magic with him because I know he's into Magic. Yeah. I talked to him one time at a movie about Rotato. That was a game that he was really into. He's always into weird games. I love him about him. Every single time I've talked to him, it's like there's a new game where I'm like, I've not even heard of that. Yeah. Then I saw Rotato. He's very particular. I like that. And I tried it. It was all right. Of course, if you're a kind of funny member, today's Greg Way. is Greg having a panic attack live? I recorded that in the car yesterday.
8:32Like you plan to have the panic attack? Nope, nope, nope. Totally had a different... It is in terms of the timeline of events, right? It was on the way to work where I expected to do the Greg way about what it's like to be able to talk about a game that you've been embargoed on. But I needed to get this out first. And so I go places in this one before I get to work to do my job or whatever. Are you okay? I'm okay. Yeah, I just had a... You listen to the show. You'll see all about it. Maybe pay to pay to hear your inner. I'm okay. Don't worry, everybody. I am okay. Thank you to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster and Delaney.
9:06The Psalm twining.
9:10It's still weird. It's got to hop into. I know I got warm. I just got to stop thinking. Yeah, I got to go Delaney. The Psalm twining for now. Let's begin with what isn't forever. We'll be the rope report.
9:25Time for some news. we got five items on the roper report uh baker's dozen i like that the sound was having like grabbing the microphone to do the thing but it sounded like a drum roll intro uh number one sony interactive entertainment partners with bad robot games to produce and publish the studio's first internally developed game this is from a press release before we start super chat are you excited for this game from playstation why or why not let's get into the nitty-gritty. Sony Interactive Entertainment today announced a partnership with video game studio Bad Robot Games, a division of Bad Robot, the film, television, and theater production company founded by J.J.
10:07Abrams, for SIE to produce and publish the studio's upcoming project, an unannounced four-player cooperative shooter directed by Mike Booth, parentheses Left 4 Dead. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC. More details on the game will be shared at a later date. quote partnering with sony interactive entertainment allows us to bring our new ip to life with an expansive vision for this new universe said anna sweet ceo of bad robot games bad robot games is a division of bad robot parentheses lost cloverfield mission impossible star wars star trek uh formed with a singular mission to continually reinvent how stories are played formed by jj abrams and a team passionate about innovation and gaming bad robot games is a dedicated game studio working on new and existing trans media franchises what's your take on this greg i can't wait for game awards oh you think that's where we're gonna i think this is game awards yeah i think this is game awards i think you primed the pump here really because it's such a weird it's such you don't want to come out you have i don't even know who's at playstation anymore you have sean benson i don't Sean and Sid come out.
11:22I was going to say, you have a PlayStation representative and you have J.J. Abrams, even though he might be above this. I don't even go that far. Obviously, I could totally be wrong. This could be a million miles from now. We're never going to hear about this ever, period. I just feel like it's an interesting timing to come out and say we're partnering with this. Because why? It's not for either of these companies' financial earnings reports. It's this thing. I think you do it now so that when Jeff goes, and now everybody, something you're really going to like or whatever, and it clicks over and it's Sony Interactive Entertainment, right?
11:56Or PlayStation Studios, whatever they do. And then it's bad robot games. There isn't immediately, did Sony buy, did PlayStation buy bad robot? What are the business dealings? What are we actually getting? Dot, dot, dot. And also I think you get a way then of showing a cinematic trailer of four people fighting whatever these monsters, zombies, ghosts are, whatever you're doing. And then we already have, the groundwork is laid. so that when we're live reacting, we can say, oh, remember, this is that. Okay. I think it gives you more chance to show a cinematic trailer, have the background on it, and be able to go, okay, cool.
12:28I know more about this than nothing. Otherwise, it's just a weird... Hey, everybody, here's a paragraph. We're working with these guys. See you later. Isn't that Hollywood? Isn't that Hollywood? This is video games, right? But this is Bad Robot, which is JJ Abrams in Hollywood. I hear you. That's the way I read it, but I do like the way that you're talking about it because I do think that's more exciting for the video game side of it but yeah my read on it was like okay cool you're working on a thing we'll see you years from now like i wonder how fresh the ink is on the page as far as when you guys decided that this is going to be a thing that's how i read it sure sure that's i and don't get me wrong i'm definitely just wildly speculating i mean i could easily see that being the case but i'd rather make the bold claim that i think it's leading up to something game awards now to answer the super chat question that we put out there right are you excited for this game from playstation why or why not i am very whelmed underwhelmed okay what are the greg you know way better than i do probably can you list the top five left for dead style games that aren't left for dead here's something i'd like to do just completely stop this conversation cold that's a great question i appreciate you said greg you probably know better than i do it's nice when you show me the respect I deserve.
13:42Yeah. Let me tell you how hard I was gripping the fucking steering wheel yesterday listening to Kind of Funny Games Daily when we're like, oh, Kojima's coming through for GDC and Tim's like, don't worry, Greg's probably already hit him up. And you're like, we got to get somebody better than Greg. What the fuck do you want from me, boss? You have a job because of me. This entire business exists because of me. You threw out Roger. Roger only met Kojima because I fucking set it up. Because you've been here. You know what I mean? You've already gone through it all. Yeah, that's fine. You're allowed to say, well, Greg, Greg doesn't need Greg doesn't need to go talk.
14:14But like you didn't say you didn't you didn't you were like Greg shits his pants. That was the you were like Greg shits his pants. You're not going to go to Kojima anymore. Because I imagine when Greg DM somebody, it's all caps. Like, you know, it's very kick down the door. All chaotic. I mean, we need somebody. And it's worked. He opened Hideo Kojima opened the studio. You're like, you're like, you're like the team wins the championship. And you're like, all right, cool. Break it all apart. Let's see if we can do it next year. Are you in those DMs yet? You know what? I have better connections than DMs, and I'm using those instead.
14:43So don't worry about what I'm doing over here. Fair enough. I better see you on that GDC stage. See, Adam, I want them just in the studio. I want them to come by and actually see the place. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. That'd be really cool. Anyways, back to your question. So you said, what are the five Left 4 Dead clones? Yeah, five Left 4 Dead style games that aren't Left 4 Dead. Top five. So I can start listing games, and I will for you. But my problem is, and chat, please keep me honest on this. None of them have ever gotten back to left for dead. That is the issue here is that left for dead left for dead.
15:17One did something so incredibly special. So different at the time. And again, online play console, online play this, the connectivity, like it was a different time, but it was able to come out and be this moment of, Holy shit. Look at this. And everything since then has chased that high. And I see good shout outs. I don't want to knock. Vermintide 2 people are doing Dark Tide but I'm talking about what has come out and made that wave, that movement, right? What was the Aliens one that we liked, that we played, that should have on paper, if you're talking about we're making another Left 4 Dead, but this time it's Aliens in the movie, in the universe, Aliens Colonial Marines, right?
15:59It would be like yeah, yeah, there's no, I mean no that was the bad, that was a really bad Fireteam, Aliens, Fireteam Aliens, Fireteam, thank you very much that's awesome and yes that one like that was a great but it's the same thing and then people of course are bringing up back for blood as well because that was the people who did left for dead the problem there is that they got way too much in their head i think and missed the point of why left for dead works which is hey yo drop in and be these characters and you're fighting zombies and it's you don't need a strategy other than you like machine guns and you like shotguns and let's share our health packs people are calling out world war z which we've done a few streams of I'm not familiar enough to know that.
16:37I guess let me dial back. You know why I ask is because I want to know, is there something post Left 4 Dead that gave us that similar thing that was able to reach the heights of that? Or are we just past Left 4 Dead? This is my thing, right, of like, I think Left 4 Dead has such mind share for what it did that then we get out here and we're like, oh, World War Z. and I'm like, well, I remember World War Z disappointing at launch, but then I know they added a bunch of stuff. And so we're to that point where all of these games, with the exception of Back 4 Blood, have communities. People keep saying Helldivers.
17:13Do we really count Helldivers? I don't count Helldivers as Left 4 Dead. Yeah, because no, then we're just talking about horror shooters. Then we're just saying here's a war. And maybe I'm just, maybe I'm thinking too, maybe I'm putting it too much in a box. But for me, like, Left 4 Dead, again, was jump in procure whatever weapons you want on site blast the hell out of things and have fun as you play through a movie with your friends where hell divers even though it is drop in it is i'm running this thing you're running that thing what what strategy are you bringing it different enough but maybe again maybe this next left for dead thing will be like that but that's the thing all they said is it's an unannounced i mean they say unannounced four-player cooperative shooter directed by mike booth of left for dead which technically yeah that could be a hell divers that could be something else that's not left for dead but i think when you put those words together what you're saying is left for dead especially when you say four-player cooperative shooter that for me is y 'all telling me that this is left for dead now the thing that i do like that they don't say and maybe they just didn't want to add too much flavor to it because they wanted to keep it like yeah they don't say zombies oh yeah yeah i doubted zombies you doubted zombies i doubted really yeah i think the same conversation we've had here on this uh kind of funny this week right where it's like do people still care about zombies i do i do think zombies to a degree are played out now sadly people hear that on the dev side and they go they are so we have infected we have this we have what rainbow six quarantine where they're not zombies what they are zombies and aliens and what would excite you if like do you want dinosaurs what do you want aliens here's what i want i want a good game okay period like i like a four-player cooperative shooter awesome that those work and work well i don't want it to get it i now granted i know i caught yesterday after we did the Octopath review and it was finished, the YouTube chat was still up.
19:01And somebody had a comment in there that I don't think they were in the live chat. So those are usually good folks. You know what I mean? I don't think it was meant to be mean, but like commenting on how I, they said, you know, Greg just wants, I think Greg just wants the most frictionless video game experience as possible, which isn't necessarily wrong. We can do a whole show about that. But thinking of this kind of game, that's what I would want. Like I would want, hey, we're jumping in. It's you jump in and you go, Left 4 Dead was so special because it really was. I don't really care who I am.
19:30I'll pick up an Uzi when I get out there. I'll do this thing, blah, blah. It's like now it's the flip of like you play, you know, we all go in there to play. And I know this isn't apples to apples exactly, but we go play Ark Raiders. And it is like, all right, well, Mike's so far advanced that like he's slumming it to help us do anything. And I feel like I'm holding him back. It's the classic push and pull of a multiplayer thing. Yeah. Where Left 4 Dead being these little movies worked really well. I would hope for something like that here, especially as we continue to talk about the attention economy, player retention.
19:58What can you do here? I think PlayStation is well aware of that after Concord and their live service push and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. My hope would be we are bad robot. You know, what do they put here? Right. Blah, blah, blah. Singular mission to continually reinvent how stories are played. I think that's incredibly important. Right. That's their mission statement. How stories are played. so if you're bringing in one of the people who's behind left for dead your playstation your bad robot yes hey everybody we are launching this game and it is going to launch with three two hour long campaigns they're they're movies whatever it is we will add more over time there'll be free updates there'll be microtransactions you can buy for it cosmetics blah blah blah but you're buying into a season of tell of game you're up and it is the idea that you're going to get drops as you go so you and your friends can go and play these at launch and then you can put it down they can keep rolling it with their friends there's branching things here and there in the narrative so you could see one side of the city that they don't get to see like there i think there's something there and i think you really do i really do read into what bad robot as a company could bring to this i mean that then that'd be exciting right i think that's one of the things that i read as far as who bad robot is versus what this game is where they're talking about jj abrams they're talking about movies like lost cloverfield mission impossible star wars star trek right obviously you have the the grandness of jj abrams mixed with you know something again like cloverfield where i'm like damn all right that catalog is very inspired as far as what they creatively bring to the industry i want that same energy for the video game side of things i get nervous when it is oh we're just doing left for dead again but also like i don't want to act like it's impossible to do left for dead in 2025 because i don't know like i'd be excited to see them refresh it innovate on it make it something that is worthwhile in 2025 my biggest fear though is that i feel like we haven't seen that since left for dead we've seen copies we've seen games we've seen world war z's we've seen back for the bloods back for the blood came and went world war z is kind of i think just does what world war z does oh my god i think the hordes make it exciting because you play that game and it's fucking zombies trampling over each other to get to you type shit and that is really cool but i don't know i feel like the left for dead style game is such a 2010 2009 style of thing that i'm fascinated to see what you can do in 2025 to make it feel brand new and exciting i completely forgot what back for blood was when i was talking about back for blood i was thinking of evolve oh my god i forgot that somebody was like hey we went that's so because that's what they did the left for dead team is that you know that went over to turtle rock they went yeah they made or the turtle rock made uh evolve yeah so yeah i forgot that we had back for blood holy shit back for blood was the most direct left for dead it was sloan and i was so excited for remember and the whole problem was it came out during paternity leave and when i came back i was like mike can we pay play back for blood he's like absolutely not like nobody cares that game's done i'm like oh damn i wanted to play that and i think back for the blood might be really infecting pun intended uh how i feel about this sure because that was the most direct attempt at bringing back left for dead as i read this press release this seems like a very direct attempt at bringing back a left for dead style game and i think i'm just like i've been here i've done that you know so you'll have to show me i'll have to see hopefully a game awards a trailer that makes me go oh damn this looks kind of cool actually we're not fighting zombies we're fighting robot aliens in space so then let's talk about this let's say it isn't announced the game awards it is very far out right i then turn to you and you know we read through this right produce and publish up game project announced four players i forget what did they how do they describe the ip okay bring our new ip to life our new ip to life yeah so it shared playstation and rad robots i start coming around and i go it's according to the ceo of bad robots our new ip to life do you think it's a completely original ip or do you think they are pulling from something playstation related oh i think it's completely new yeah yeah i mean they say here our new our new ip to life with an expansive vision for this new universe i think this is brand new yeah yeah and honestly new universe is interesting you don't you don't read into that i don't read into it in terms of like we're in the new milky way or something you know what i mean like i think you call anything a new universe well yeah i'm not saying space but i'm saying like what are the are there plans beyond this just being like like let's not even say zombies let's say just a horde shooter it could be anything dinosaurs whatever the fuck yeah you saying new ip new universe that for me says series that for me says franchise that for me says maybe bad robots movie side can make a movie out of this thing i think more expansive than just we're making like a small horde shooter kind of thing or even like a medium-sized horde shooter do you so i think again stick with me it's john box super chat that says could it be set in the cloverfield universe and then robo lee says cloverfield monster left for dead game i mean that'd be sick unless that'd be a cool way if they're pulling the the rug from underneath us that'd be a really smart way to do a cloverfield game actually well again correct me if i'm wrong i'm not up on all my lore but cloverfield currently works as an anthology series right where there was cloverfield the big monster like godzilla which was awesome later 10 cloverfield lane which was not set in that universe yeah well it is set in that universe is it okay but you are it's essentially in a bunker because like a lady wakes up oh no no i saw the movie oh yeah but it was the fact that when when she surfaces from the bunker i didn't know if that was still tied to everything that happened yeah because then i i'd actually i don't want to spoil the end of the movie yeah exactly exactly show that like yeah no things are happening okay and then there's the other cloverfield thing that was a netflix release that took place in space chat what's the name of that movie paradox thank you it was just called cloverfield paradox kev yeah the cloverfield paradox a 2018 film because like oh i guess they all have cloverfield in the title because they'd be really cool to play that would be the thing what is cloverfield paradox in the same universe too i would have to be yeah i would assume so i it would be really cool to play a game that's in Cloverfield, but you don't realize it until halfway through.
26:14Or maybe you unlock it. Maybe it's like a PT-style thing where you get to the very end. There's a cutscene, and then all of a sudden, the fucking title of the game goes upside down, and all of a sudden, it says Cloverfield. You're like, oh, it's there the whole time. Oh, okay. I'm looking at something off of a Reddit here of the Cloverfield universe. 1944 Overlord? I don't know what the fuck that is. 2009 Cloverfield, 2016, 10 Cloverfield, late 2030 the cloverfield paradox yeah here's the i would like a cloverfield thing because i do like cloverfield yeah i don't think it is just because i they're going out of their way to say new ip and new universe yeah and it's not like this is a this is a press release it's not like this is a show if this was in a showcase or if this was a like a fun blog post sort of thing then i would over read into it and be like oh you're saying new a lot new universe but it's not this being a formal press release that was on businesswire.com.
27:12Yeah, I got the Sony email. Yeah, I don't think they're getting cute in there. Okay, fair enough. One final thing on the... No, there's two, actually. Maybe more, actually. Let me scroll back.
27:26Sully Bear 100 says, Hey from Ireland. Great to catch you guys live. Really don't see this Left 4 Dead game getting an audience. Co-op shooters are the new Battle Royale. There are a lot. Yeah. I mean I think I'm aligned with that It's going to be hard to get you excited to go play it Yes I don't want to say it's not impossible I don't want to count it out just because of its genre because any game of any genre I think has potential to break out and be successful and do all that stuff I just think it's a tough one to really break out even as a Playstation published thing And then Mellowfellow with the final comment here says the longevity of Left 4 Dead was in the versus mode which I of course never touched but I'm glad people of fun loving that cool for me it was definitely dropping into those campaigns and having a great time the one more thing i'll add to this one more thing if this is leaning more towards like if it is actually no we're not doing this straight up left for dead we're doing more of a hell divers thing yeah i do think that would be more exciting i do think that with more bells and whistles and like progression and all that jazz yeah i think you're guaranteed to have that i think i don't think it's gonna be a friend slop as kai guys talking oh sure yeah i just see it being a thing of PlayStation seeing the Helldiver's success, wanting the live service push and all that stuff.
28:37I've made like, yeah, we should make more of these. That's actually a really smart idea. So if PlayStation and Bad Robot are in conversation being like, yo, how do we lean into what Helldiver's brought? Can we bring this, can we combine that with ideas from Left 4 Dead? Yeah. Then I'm more faithful in it. Okay. We will wait and see when we will hear about it. Remember, the game awards are one week from today. I'm the only person saying it'll be a game awards, but maybe I look good when it happens. Nobody, everybody laughed me out of the room when I said Jordan Peele. Put it in your predictions.

31:47um replaced when we did the demo at summer game fest not this was it man i don't know about time anymore i'm not sure if it was last year or this past summer game fest but it was a three-part demo and it was like all right this demo we're going to show off kind of how the combat is this demo we're going to put you in a section where you do investigative stuff talk to npcs solve mysteries you know kind of get a it's a very like tonal type of demo where they're just kind of giving you how the world feels and the third one i kind of forget what it was i actually don't know if i had time to do it or not but i was sitting down next to paris lily as he was also doing his demo can you give me a little bit of paris vocals point blank period and the the i didn't love the combat but this was on the heels of me just kind of playing prince of as a lost crown and obviously that's a very high standard to hold combat to but it was very basic it had a good feeling parry and like the dodge or whatever but i you know there it was very basic of like attack or heavy and shoot and i guess i i kind of like wanted a bit more with how awesome the visuals look but the i think like ambiance and everything kind of how the whole game was presenting itself was just so stellar the way that the game whenever you go into your menus it like cuts to i think he has like a old kind of retro future phone or maybe it's like a wrist piece or something like a pit boy i forget exactly what it is but that's where the ui is kind of on and that's where the investigations you'll be sort of studying are at and it's just a really cool visual i think the game is gonna present really really well i hope it evolved enough to kind of like satisfy those needs of like all right we've seen what other 2d side-scrolling combat games can do hopefully they can sort of live up to those uh standards yeah good to know i tossed uh yeah igan's 13 minute gameplay overview in here uh to kevin he's throwing that up i love looking at this game a lot this game looks fucking awesome yeah that's my i but yeah i don't mind basic combat you know i'm not the parry combat poppy well it's a year ago yeah okay okay so this is from a year ago yeah this is definitely the section that we played definitely felt like it's not in the game it's just let's show you how this sort of feels it was kind of like a endless enemy room that just enemies kept on kind of popping in but it was it was definitely like it was good enough it wasn't like bad by any means but i was also trying to like directionally i wanted to like hit a dude not necessarily like to juggle him but like i wanted to have like directional inputs of like down hit and whatever it's just you watch this and it's like it's like got so much style that's crazy if it if for me personally if it just comes down to being a playable movie fine you know what i mean yeah same yeah and then yeah the all the investigative stuff and the way that they are building their world was so damn cool and it's kind of like that playable blade runner you've always wanted to play but just never could because nobody had really done one you know fuck yeah thank you and thank you good job running here so fast yeah if the combat ends up hard way once ends up being more improved and like fun and all that stuff and i'm i'd be down to play this game for like 10 15 hours exactly yeah if it's a really cool story about being trapped in this ai or if it's way more narrative and like the combat isn't fleshed out then give me this for like four hours because i want to play this game the more i look at this the more i'm like damn i want to play this real bad yeah i hate it when paris is right i know right point link uh we will wait with bated breath for march 12th 2026 just like you're gonna have to wait if you don't have your kind of funny membership remember you can pick up a kind of funny membership patreon.com slash kind of funny youtube.com slash kind of funny games apple spotify get all of our shows ad free get your daily dose of me greg miller the series we call greg way and get good karma for supporting an 11 person small business.

40:40Throw them up for the Dudley boys. Number three on the Roper Report. This steampunk RPG looks like the Avatar game we've spent years begging for. We go to Patricia Hernandez at Polygon. Avatar The Last Airbender, the influential Nickelodeon animated fantasy came out over 20 years ago. The premise of the show, which highlights a lore-dense world where people can wield elemental powers, seems practically destined for a good video game adaptation. Somehow, despite no shortage of attempts, video games have never managed to pull it off. Perhaps the God Slayer is here to finally satisfy that need. To be clear, this is not an official Avatar game.
41:16The God Slayer is billed as an original open-world steampunk RPG that takes place in an Eastern European metropolis. But if you watch the gameplay for a few seconds, it's hard not to draw an avatar comparison. The Elemancer protagonist wields fire, earth, wind, and water, much in the way you'd expect Aang to do. The protagonist seemingly bends the surrounding environment to fuel his attacks, like when he pulls water from a nearby tower to flood his enemies in the gameplay trailer. The flow of combat also seems to be based on many of the same martial arts, like Tai Chi and Kung Fu. The God Slayer's industrial fantasy setting shares some similarities to Korra's steampunk world.
41:55There's more to read, but I want to see what's going on. Yeah. Kevin, can you turn up the sound so we can, we don't have to start over, but like from the beginning. Is this doing it for you? Yeah. Oh, yes. Okay. Oh, you're an avatar guy. I love avatar. The last airbender, which funny enough, as I started this trailer, cause this is a seven minute long trailer. As I started watching it, I didn't get the avatar vibes until you get into the action. But even regardless, before you even get into the action, I'm already kind of sold. This game looks really good. Okay.
42:29If you're watching, he's up on the rooftops, kind of Assassin's Creed. Also, you would never guess what developer. Do I know them? You know, you maybe know a game that they've made.
42:46My time at Portia. You remember that game? What? What's the studio's name? I don't remember. Pathia Games. So here they're getting into combat you see That's fucking awesome Yeah They pulled the steam out of that and threw it at that guy's face So like a lot of environmental stuff going on here And then when they attack This is where it's Avatar Okay Because the Firebenders when they fight You can see fire emitting Oh look at him flying all around Doing this fuck yeah This is all Firebender shit Too many
43:25Yeah, very third-person action-adventure style game for audio listeners.
43:37That's dope. Yeah, you have like combat finishers kind of like a Spider-Man or something like that. But yeah, all the action from this character is very firebendry. Huh. But then it looks like, yeah, there's environmental stuff that you can do like you know lift bricks or pull steam from from things in order to progress or solve obstacles that's cool you just pulled a big sledge yeah i got this guy's giant hammer and used it now he's got water yeah he's gonna pull on the water like the fish was right i'm talking this is what i'm talking about i know we had this conversation but like bring back these double-a games well and that's where i want to just don't look this a you know this ain't triple This ain't indie.
44:18This is something right in that middle section that looks fucking huge. And like, we can probably turn this down now, but I want to keep playing the video. Like, to revisit the conversation we had a few days ago. Yeah. Because I think I was talking about this with Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 about the AA action adventure games and how it feels like they can kind of get lost in the shuffle when you have these big games that are dominating the genre. And it's like, why would I play this when I can play this? This proves me wrong to myself. Because I look at this, look at this, and I'm like, I don't give a fuck if it's not.
44:47the highest and i hope this is eight hours 10 hours yeah 12 hours right there put me in that section i want to play this game i want to i hope this is like at least a 7.5 like this is the kind of thing where i'm like we don't see games like this this often something cool to pull from the super chat here and then give you a little bit more information street shadow points out that this is a sony china hero project by the way if you're unfamiliar the china hero project to playstation reads the china hero project is a playstation mentoring and support initiative for china-based developers helping them create incredible games uh that reach a global audience that includes game development support publishing support and marketing and promotion and this looks fucking cool blast the god slayer again is the name of this game if you're interested a lot of cool looking games getting announced patricia jobs oh hold on a second hold on a second hold on a second okay patricia pulls out a youtube viewer who put in the comments infamous creed the last airbender which you sold me on the first two you know what i mean yeah Patricia's article also says there's no release date for the God Slayer which is intended for PlayStation 5 and PC platforms so fuck yeah I'm gonna keep my eye on that one for sure yeah cool character designs too uh-huh good looking game very good number four on the Roper report less good recreation maker Three Fields Entertainment puts whole studio on redundancy notice this is Alex Forbes Calvin from oh I didn't put the thing Games Industry.biz I submitted this one I forget where I submitted it from I think it was Games Industry.biz I'll double check three fields entertainment which is games which was founded by the makers of burnout and which recently launched the open world driving game recreation has notified its entire staff that they are at risk of redundancy ceo fiona sperry broke the news on a post in linkedin the studio released recreation in october but sperry said that three fields quote will not see revenue from game sales for the foreseeable future end quote the steam player account for recreation peaked at$199 in October, according to SteamDB.
46:41Although the game was published by THQ Nordic, Sperry said that Three Fields has resorted to self-funding for, quote, unquote, most of this year, including putting up money to support post-launch content. Quote, without the enthusiasm or financial support from our publisher to continue development, we simply cannot sustain the studio in its current form. Making this decision has not, I'm sorry, has been unbelievably painful. this is a heartbreaking moment for all of us what makes it even harder is that we have so many things in the pipeline multiple features updates and creative ideas that we were excited to bring to the game many of which are showcased in the video we're sharing today these are things we genuinely believed would have continued to strengthen recreation and grow this community end quote this one sucks and like it's interesting i saw three fields entertainment i follow their games i've played some of recreation i played dangerous driving uh when that came out in like 2019 2020 and the reason why i follow their games is because there are a bunch of former criterion devs who worked on previous burnout games and i'm a big burnout fan i love burnout three takedown especially and dangerous driving the one that came out around 2019 2020 that game was essentially a clone of burnout three the thing that's tough about it and this is like a tough love sort of thing that game didn't hit like that game was not it it felt empty it felt sterile it didn't have the same energy as what you'd want out of a burnout racing game and even playing recreation i would say some of the similar things like recreation was definitely a an evolved version of what that is if um dangerous driving was trying to be burnout three recreation was trying to be burnout paradise it was open they had like a lot of cool trap customization stuff that they had going on um a lot of cool like destruction stuff as well but playing that game is very much like man this feels like it's missing a lot as far as polish as far i remember even my first hour of playing that game felt glitchy like didn't have all the things i was looking for out of it and i think this speaks to mainly the difficulty of game development and how hard it is to create something when like there's a certain expectation for what a game can bring technically what a game can bring polish wise and how things have just ratcheted up as far as if you're making this kind of game you got to bring this stuff you can't be mid you can't be mid anymore yeah yeah and like i'm playing their games i love this developer i love what they're i love the concepts i love the visions but yeah no they were rough like the games weren't coming together the way that i would have wanted them to yeah and i think you know this always harkens back to what we talk about of what game development is in 2025 versus what it was when i started the industry in 20 2007 right where it was like you could be a developer and you could have games that come out and don't kill and don't crush but you could then make the sequel and you can make the the third game and like you could keep iterating on the idea to refine what you needed to really get to places where okay now we've had chances to do this you know what i mean rather than well we had this one game that these people dangerous driving that someone published but now we're making a game with thq so we can't do they other people own that so now we're making this thing recreation so it's like you got to throw out to some degree what you did there start fresh bring in the ideas and the spiritual success of it but you can't make literally dangerous driving two dangerous driving three you know i keep out that way and thq nordic and um three fields entertainment they're not ea you know what i mean like you play burnout paradise and you can see the money you can see where the budget goes yeah you listen to the soundtrack where they have uh guns and roses guns and paradise city never forget yeah where you have fucking brock obama ads triple a ass video game burnout three takedown to this day on playstation 2 is a wonderful looking video game that game graphically fucking looks insane on the playstation 2 because that's the money that criterion and ea and also just the space that they were in in 2004 or 5 whenever that game yeah um it's a different story when you're making this game on an indie to double budget and you're not able to reach those same things.
50:49Yeah, it's tough to make a, what is trying to be a very high destruction, high quote unquote fidelity racing game. Yeah. And so difficult task and in my opinion, they weren't really able to live up to the heights of that. You hate to see it. We will keep our eye on what is going on at Three Fields Entertainment, but blessing someone being able to iterate on their ideas and make a third game. That's amazing. It would be big news that would be huge if i wanted something smaller say the tiniest news i need to know about where should i go you go to our last news story the we news channel where you cover all the small news items you need to know about uh number five we news which i have been warned my blessing is actually jam-packed full of shit today so that's great uh first bullet point somebody made a new banjo kazooie game in dreams let's watch the trailer can we see the trailer can we get sound for it too yeah i would love sound for this have you seen this yet i saw the headlines that someone has made a surprisingly good Banjo-Kazooie.
51:46There he is. I love that Dreams is still kicking. Yeah. At some point, I don't know if this is a stream or something. Maybe it is a stream. Maybe I just do this at home. But like, you said it on R, so I own the content now. That's true. We should go back to Dreams just to see what's still happening, what's popping off of it. It's been a couple of years. Yeah. It really has. And even a couple of years ago, like in being in Dreams, hanging out, doing the judging for the awards that they would do every month. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There was always cool shit happening. This is insanely Banjo-Kazooie. Yeah.
52:21You like this kind of stuff. What's it doing for you? I mean, it's doing a lot for me. Like, obviously, it's like, it looks like if, almost like if you remade Banjo-Kazooie from the N64, which is even better than, I think, the idea of trying to make something that feels very 2025 or whatever. like they went back and they did the thing and they have like new mechanics new transformations here that that look cool that's this is awesome i still wonder about companies not like going after games that are using their ip and music and all that stuff yeah but i mean right it's free so it's fair use what's right oh the game like banjo you're paying for dreams sure but it's like you can't prove that they're paying for dreams to come play Banjo-Kazooie, which I doubt people are really going to do, right?
53:09I mean, with a trailer like this? I mean, it's definitely right there. Mumbo Mumbo Mania. Mumbo Mania. It's cool. I love this. I'll check this out. I'm on indreams.me which of course is where you can log in and save dreams you want to go play and everything else. They used to say how many players are online. They don't anymore. Oh, damn. But shit's still here. recommended for you. I found some weird tapes in the attic. That's the name of a game? Just moved into a new house. Looks like someone left a bunch of tapes in the attic. And then it goes, this is a collection of weird, creepy, surreal scenes I've created.
53:44There's no story or goal, although something will happen when every tape is watched. I just kind of like that. First published 2019. Last modified 2024. This is what I'll say. Actually, no, that's a bad take. What I was going to say is that if you go in a dream dreams perusing the dreams like page like the new and recommended or whatever i think you're more likely to find a hidden gem than like the and maybe i'll actually maybe i'll stick by this i think you're more likely to find a hidden gem there than a hidden gem if you just hit new games on steam oh yeah yeah no i would dreams does a good job of curating yeah like here like even right now what's trending like you throw this up and like number two is banjo kazooie mumbo mania Right now, 43 players are playing it right now.
54:31Oh, really cool. Yeah, obviously you're not going to find the next game of the year. Number three is Batmobile 1989. And I want to play that. Thanks to Project R8 for the music. The Batmobile took me hundreds of hours in over two years. I almost gave up several times, but here it is. So it's not a game. It's just a thing of Batmobile. That's cool. To refine my take, because that was very much a hot take, I think I get more excited perusing the Dream pages. And I think that's mainly because everything is free, so it's low risk. i can just yeah yeah of course of course whenever i'm just perusing it's funny looking at my hours and dreams and i've played way more dreams than i thought i would have because every day is just a new experience i'm just on there finding new shit and like all of it sounds cool you have a thing that's called batmobile 1943 and i'm like what's that and i play it or you have a thing that's just like a fucking random ass spongebob game that somebody made and it's most of the time for me fun to go into and check out and so one of the ones that's trending here is chase god not temporary things look it's the it's the cross with the crown of thorns on it and the light coming down on it that's fun god such a miss that dreams never came to pc yes crazy mungus miss on that and like you know we don't know yeah i don't know i don't know why you wouldn't have done that because like right now you're looking at this and i'm in the trending now thing right and the first courage the cowardly dog house of revenge has 42 players uh banjo has 43 players and then everything else that's on this either has no players or one player little big planet carding re-drunked one night with markiplier oh god markiplier sent you to his dungeon because you are a horrible you are horrible at five nights at freddy's can you survive one night with markiplier we gotta play some dreams mike put it on the thing i like how you say like mike's watching mike put it on he's definitely watching his chat early mike if you're watching come in hearing high kick on this camera uh from game file netflix sells game studio spry fox back to its founders nice very cool yeah i've spry fox i've known for so long they were original original like it ever came back up at noon ever stopped i guess up at noon guests like early early up at noon guests and so to see them continue on and go and change in the company i'm so stoked they got it back that's great especially because netflix clearly doesn't know what the fuck they're doing Let these developers go.
56:46Let them go make games. From VGC, Sega has said it will start incorporating AI into game development, but only in certain ways. Quote, rather than fully following the trend towards the large scale development, we will also pursue efficiency improvements, such as leveraging AI, the company's official answer reads. However, as AI adoption can face strong resistance in creative areas, such as character creation, we will proceed by carefully assessing appropriate use cases, such as streamlining development processes, end quote. So that's that meme of like, you know what I mean? Like, I'm not going to yell, but okay.
57:23I got no opinion. Okay, whatever. Yeah, at this point, the world is AI. The world is AI. The world is AI. From Shinobi, but via Reuters. Micron, a major manufacturer of RAM chips, says it is exiting the consumer memory business and focusing its chips on data centers, parentheses AI. This comes amid a global memory supply shortage that has seen RAM prices quadruple in price. That sounds great for us. Does it? No. Oh, okay. Real bad for gamers. That sounds like really, really bad things for gamers. Yeah. From Windows Central, Microsoft is reportedly partnering with Foxconn to expand Xbox manufacturing by 4.8 million devices per year as Grand Theft Auto 6 looms.
58:07I thought Microsoft's done making hardware. That's like... Fuck, I was going to make a good joke and I lost it. I was going to say there's like 3 million more consoles but that doesn't matter. I'll figure it out by the end of this. We'll get there. I'm going to give you a banger joke by the end of this. Thank you, I appreciate that. SpongeBob Patty Pursuit 2 launches today exclusively on Apple Arcade. Little Gator Game In The Dark DLC launches February 12th. Total War Medieval 3 is now in early development. Total War Warhammer 3 DLC Lords of the End Time launches summer 2026 on PC. Anton Blast, the end update, launches December 18th.
58:42I remember Anton Blast. Yeah. People here were into that. Didn't they know the dev was another thing? Well, he came through during GDC. And we played it. We really liked it. And then sad news. Tortellini, the goldfish who defeated Elden Ring's most difficult boss, is like Melania, has died. recipes. I don't remember. How did Tortellini do it? I don't know. Oh, okay. I didn't know about Tortellini. Man, Claude and Tortellini in one week. Crazy week. You hate to see it. You hate to see it. And that's it for We News. We now turn our lonely eyes to the Super Chats. Remember to be part of the show with your comments, questions, and everything else.
59:22You can Super Chat YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games just like Matt Oh, Matthew Miller, 7336 did and says, Bless, where are you at with the Avatar Magic the Gathering set? I played a lot of it a few weeks ago. I don't know if I'm going to go to more drafts or whatever. Usually I'll come in at the beginning of a new set and just be happy with the cards that I have. And then just play on Magic Arena or whatever. But I really like them. I think they're really cool. I like the mechanics. I like even more than the Spider-Man set. And so, very much enjoying it. Josh, she says the game from Bad Robot Games has to be lost to the Adamus 2.
59:59Do you remember Lost via Domus? No. When Lost was big, it was a Lost video game. Get to the Banyan trees. You gotta get to the Banyan. It was terrible. It was so bad. But we all played at IGN because we loved Lost. Was that a Left 4 Dead like? No. No, no, no. It was... Oh, because Lost was made by Bad Robot. Yeah. Gotcha. Age of Orton37 says, how can I send blessed D &D stuff my company makes? Just email me. We want to do D &D here. And so if you send me an email from an actual company, not just your fucking Gmail, we're going to send this stuff, then a sock full of quarters shows up. No, thank you.
1:00:35I think they're saying me because I'm doing a D &D campaign right now with friends. No, I know. You got shot in the shoulder. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you also want to make D &D content happen here, right? Yes. I feel like I was just thinking. Oh, yeah. That's a good point. I don't care. If you want to email, bless. Email, bless. Email, email, Greg. Email, bless. I'm not going to hoard it and not let you take it to your thing or whatever. Oh, no. But you can just pass it on to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll figure it out. Ryan Povala Higgins says, too long didn't read Greg Miller. He's just making a joke about when I was mad about everything else, so it doesn't matter.
1:01:03Hold on a minute. Microsoft is reportedly partnering with Foxconn to expand Xbox manufacturing by 4.8 million devices per year. That sounds like three... Fuck, I almost had it. Before the end of the show, I got you. Before the end of the show, keep going. You know where you went wrong? Uh-huh. Is that you said it. So here, I'm highlighting it, And then when you say, Greg, I'm ready, I'll read this. Okay. I like that. Okay. I agree. I like that. It's Topher is predicting that Kojima rolls up to the studio with Caroline Polichek bet. I doubt it, but we'll see. Fig Log Super Chat says, birthday tax.

1:02:24Has Greg seen the Game Informer doc from Game Sack? Kebabs, I do think I need to, you're wrong you. I think you mean, have I seen the Electronic Gaming Monthly documentary from Game Sack? No, it premiered last night at 5 p.m. I think it was, or 6 p.m. It's been added to my list already. And I think I left a comment of like, give it to me now. I'm excited to watch that when I have time. But it is on my YouTube list. And I thank you, Kebabs, for calling it out. Greg hit me. from windows central microsoft is reportedly partnering with foxconn to expand xbox manufacturing by 4.8 million devices per year as grand theft auto 6 looms that's 4.7 million per year more than they need we got them how did it take you that long how did it take you that long i knew what i wanted to say i just couldn't find the word for it oh my god jesus you kept saying free
1:03:17I had to fucking write I opened up a new Google Doc Oh my god I appreciate the commitment Got him Jesus Then super Kindoffunny.com slash you're wrong You can tell us what we screw up as we screw it up Tundra Boy says Blessed called Lost a Movie It's a TV show That's just a slip of the tongue but I appreciate it Grezik says the God Slayer is also coming to Xbox and then has a article linking to a Windows Central thing. I remember that, but it does look like more recent reporting has removed Xbox listings. So maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but currently they are not talking about Xbox. Maybe it's not, but who knows.
1:03:59And then V says, Greg, you didn't talk about the music in Octopath Zero review, which is wrong. How was it? I won't lie to you, V. Last night, drifting off to sleep, reflecting on how proud of the review I was, I did come up with like, I never talked about how great the fucking music is. the music is great i think they drop the ball on a couple of boss fights most of them they knock it out of the fucking park it swells it's this like the main finale of that second movie if you watch the review you know i'm talking about like they bring in this like singer i'm like this is fucking awesome uh but there was one in particular i was like i'm really looking forward to this boss fight and i was like oh this is the track for it this sucks i don't like that but overall very very good Octopath Traveler Zero available now.
