Key claims

  1. FromSoftware reportedly has an unannounced multi-platform game codenamed “FMC,” likely releasing no later than next year (2026), per MP1st/VGC reporting.
  2. Microsoft has shut down the Movies & TV store on Xbox and Windows; users can still access previously purchased content but can’t buy new titles there, with no refunds.
  3. Infamous director Nate Fox says Sucker Punch is focused on one game at a time and currently has no plans for more Infamous content, though he’d love a trilogy re-release.
  4. Valve is removing adult-only games from Steam to comply with payment processor/card network rules, adding policy language (Clause 15) about content that may violate those standards.

Notable examples

  • FromSoftware codename speculation: “F” codenames tied to Dark Souls/Armored Core; guesses include a Fires of Rubicon expansion or Dark Souls 3 remaster.
  • Steam adult-content removals after UK criticism of a non-consensual visual novel.
  • Hosts discuss Donkey Kong’s Pauline voice lines and outfit status effects.

2:00Tim Gettys:Today's stories include From Software reportedly has another unannounced game. Microsoft suddenly kills its movie and TV store on Xbox. An infamous director says he'd love to revisit the series. We'll have all of this and more because this is Kinda Funny Games Daily.

2:26Tim Gettys:What is up everybody and welcome back to kind of funny games daily for Friday, July 18th, 2025. I'm Roger Bercornian. Today I'm joined by my other half of snow. Bicle, Michael, how you doing today? Good morning, Raj. I'm a little tired. You know, it's the end of the week. You woke me up way too early yesterday for kind of funny field trip. Yeah. And then I stayed up late playing Donkey Kong. Yeah. Didn't learn anything. You didn't learn anything about donkey kong no i mean just like going to sleep a reasonable time or no tiktok calls you know what i mean like i get into bed at like 11 to midnight and i'm like look at mike gonna go to bed at like a decent time right that's not really a decent time i should be in bed sooner because i'm getting older you know i mean a little earlier and uh here i am right i get in the bed i get all cozied up and i go okay mike what are you gonna do you gonna watch the newest episode of it's always sunny in Philadelphia, maybe watch some dropout because you're going big on that streaming service right now.

3:25I like that. Or, uh-oh, who's that calling? It's TikTok. And they say, let's nestle in for a nice little two hours. And all of a sudden it's 2 a.m. and I keep scrolling. And here's the issue, Roger, is the problem with the scroll is, is you get tired during some moments. It's peaks and valleys. Yeah. You're up and then you get a little tired, but then you're back up again. And so when it's a 1 45 AM and I'm thinking, man, I should go to bed. The peak comes back. You find that right thing.

3:55Tim Gettys:It's the dopamine. It's like, you're scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. It's like, Oh, I got it there. I'm back. I'm back up. And I got some good ones. Yeah. Because you always, you do the thing where you send me, you send me a bunch of Tik TOKs. I've told you already, I am not on Tik TOK anymore. I've deleted the ad because I'm hopelessly addicted. Like you are. Yeah. But then you then use that as an opportunity to keep on sending it to me. Yes. And then use that as your personal like haven to then come to me in person while I'm working. And then just start scrolling in front of me. It's like I'm your child.

4:22And you're my dad who's like, I don't care about any of this. But then I get you stuck on the couch. And I'm like, dad, look at these. Look at these. None of these are funny. And I'm like, look at these. This is awesome. This is what I want to do, dad. This is what I want to do. I do that with Cool Greg. Oh, yeah. Exactly. So like Jet 2 Holiday has taken over my TikTok feed. You don't know about a Jet 2 Holiday? Is that a person? Is that a band? So there's a song that sings, and then there's a lady that's clearly doing, like, this European ad for taking vacations. And they're like, right now on a Jet 2 holiday, you can save.

4:56And then it just gets into people's crazy, wacky vacation moments. Okay, so it's like a trend.

5:03Tim Gettys:Yeah, it's a trend. My favorite. Chat, let us know, everybody. Is this way too late, or is he, like, right on the trend? Like, is this trend already passed everyone by? Oh, no. Because that's what I feel like is happening with Mike, because he's showing me shit and then right on. Okay, cool. Right on, Trent. Damn, look at you. Roger. Fuck. You feel that? That's the pulse, and I'm on it. Yeah. Okay? I'm always on it. Did you actually feel your pulse? Because I feel like I'm a little scared. Well, when it's going 160 beats per minute, you can feel it, I promise you. But you also talked about Donkey Kong right there.

5:33Tim Gettys:You've been playing Donkey Kong. I've been playing Donkey Kong. How are you liking it? Where are you at? Where are you at? You said four hours, right? Where am I at right now? I am on world number three. Okay. So I've just passed the, you go Lagoon. Yeah. You go Desert Refinery. Yeah. Boom. That's where I'm at. Okay. Okay. I think I'm way before you then. Yeah. I just got the Pauline, the Pauline moment where she comes out. Yes. I'm really early. Welcome to the tutorial. Yeah. Welcome to the tutorial. Okay. I'm taking my fucking time with it, Mike. What do you want me to do? What do you want me to do?

6:06I mean, I just turned my brain off, Rog, and all of a sudden I get sucked into this moment of terraforming all the world around me. hunting for gold. I now have an obsession with getting fossils because I want all of the hair dye for Donkey Kong. Oh, you're one of those guys. No, no, I refuse. Even though I only use the OG DK, I just can't get, I'm kind of coming around on the cloud white one, but I still like the OG DK the most. I don't think he looks good in any of the colorways.

6:37Tim Gettys:Yeah, no, I, it just doesn't feel right to me. It doesn't feel, none of this feels right to me. Like I, I'm putting on, I think the different ties feel good, but like, I don't know. I'm just a naked Donkey Kong guy. Like, I feel like that's just where I want to be at for my entire life. Naked Donkey Kong with the tie. With the tie. That's good enough. That's it, bro. Yeah. Do you get different things for Pauline as well? Yes. Okay, that's cool. Yeah. And the cool part about this, right, is like coming hot off of Super Mario Odyssey. For me, I did enjoy getting the new outfits. Yeah. But of course, like the OG Mario looks great.

7:06But I did find that I liked one of them. I found a few. I found a few. Yeah.

7:08Tim Gettys:I found the one that was like, that was more corduroy. I like that one. But on this one, I like that a lot of the outfits and the ties all have status, like stat effects. Right. And so, like, you can put on a pair of pants that will help you run faster through mud. Right. And Pauline's outfits will also help her as well. So, like, there's cool stuff going on if you want to dress them up. Right now, my Pauline has a cute little cowgirl outfit on, which I like. And then, yeah, Donkey Kong. I'm settling in naked Donkey Kong, either red or gold tie, cloudless white or DK original. I don't like I like the idea of having like oh the status boosts with the specific skins or whatever but you gotta let me change I don't want to have the blue pants or whatever I'm stuck with blue pants the entire game I want to be able to transmogging what do you call that I know that's like an advanced feature for a Nintendo game but you gotta let me do that so you want the blue pants with that special status effect but then you want it to look red Yeah.

8:10Is it transmogging?

8:11Tim Gettys:Is that what you call it? Mogging is when you're like, when you have like a cut jaw line is what the kids say. No, that's mewing. No, that's both. So you're mewing. So mewing is when you like, you do the thing where you like suck on your tongue a little bit. And you got like that and you got the tongue. But then mogging is like, you're doing that, but like, you're better than everyone else at it. How do you suck me into this conversation about dogging? But I'm just, I'm just trying to make sure that transmog, transmog, not transmogging, transmog. I think that needs to be the baseline for all these games if you have a status effect on a skin you gotta just let me transmog all my stuff it's a child's game you can't use that as an excuse you have a robust you can't use that as an excuse let the kids play Roger let the kids play one thing that I want to talk about really quick before we get into the we have a lot of news we have a lot of stuff to talk about is what do you think about Pauline's voice acting because Leanza fucking hates it She hates Pauline's voice acting.

9:08Tim Gettys:She thinks it's, well, she thinks it's like, it's like super whack. Like she doesn't, she doesn't feel like she's like an actual child talk and like, it's just weird. I love it. I think it's so. Open your heart. I know. Right. That's what I'm looking at her and telling her. I think it is hilarious. The way she says DK, DK, it's the funniest shit in the world. It is so good. It reminds me, Chad, I wonder if anyone knows this reference is from a metal wolf chaos XD. There is the, the, the secretary that's in your ear. Every time you die, she says, Mr. President. It's like the exact same cadence.

9:40Tim Gettys:It's incredible. Yeah, I love her voice acting. I think it's great. I love hearing some voice acting in these games. As a not big Nintendo guy, I always am stunned whenever I jump into these games. And there is very limited to no voice acting. And so I enjoy what I'm getting out of that. I even like when the evil monkeys. Oh, I guess you haven't met Void yet. Yeah, they talk? They have like a simlish situation. situation going on that's kind of how she's singing too so like i guess there is oh man her song song is so good bonanza yeah yeah yeah that's up there that's a moment that's up and the and the good and the lead up to it the lead up to it of like of like her getting ready to sing and then doggy kong's all pissed off about it it's great dude have you fell asleep you get a home uh no i've been sleeping i've slept at places but i haven't got like a home yeah you're gonna get a home i really enjoy every single time pauline will give you a different like she she gives you a new voice line of where you're kind of at, what boss you might be fighting.

10:37I enjoy that a lot. So yeah, I'm all in on that. What a game, man. What a game where all of a sudden you turn it on and your brain turns off and you are just lost in the world.

10:46Tim Gettys:But only a children's game. Can't critique a tank and talk about it? No, don't get that deep into transmogging, Roger. Just let the kids play. I think it's okay to have the transmogging conversation, okay? We gotta be okay with transmogging. I guarantee you most of the children playing this game have no idea their status effects going on in that. They don't care about with that they just want to know what color donkey kong can be today we got a transmog everybody we got to bring it together uh but you know that's always the thing about nintendo is that they're always like right there but they're just like a little off just like a little off there's always like everything's great like the photo mode's incredible but like just a little off like just it needs like one to two more features that's it but hey it's great it's good stuff everybody uh remember this is kind of funny games daily each and every weekday we run you through all the new nerdy news you need to know about live on youtube twitch and podcast services around the globe if you love what we do support us with the kind of funny membership on patreon youtube and now spotify and apple podcasts to get all of our shows ad free watch us record them live and get a daily exclusive show again i will always say this every time i'm on the show youtube music really good i use it for all of our podcasts uh it's awesome you can watch it live and you can watch our video version uh and it works really well on mobile when you're walking around the world for chance to be a part of the show submit your thoughts and opinions as youtube super chats as we go especially i want to know your thoughts on the first story about from software and what that secret game might be housekeeping our first strand type premium collectors item has arrived it's a lore accurate recreation of myself putting kojima onto caroline's music created by the incredible panda musk grab it before the month ends exclusively over at kind of funny.com patreon.com slash kind of funny and this is caroline polichek approved everybody she loves this one she commented on it so shout out to that uh another shout out tim's hosting the san diego comic-con panel for marvel cosmic invasion next thursday july 24th get hype and let tim host they made it happen that's super exciting hyped for him uh of course we're an 11 person business all about live talk shows today after kfgd you'll get gamescast which will be our astro bot review almost a year later so talking about all the dlc all of the challenge maps and all those new bots kind of going in there and seeing if this game has held up and how much it's gotten better after gamescast a big one everybody game showdown returns for a special four episode run hosted by the one and only Nick Scarpino.

13:20Tim Gettys:It's nine contestants all vying for a prize that is going to change their lives. Probably not, but maybe a little bit. So that's a big one. Tune into that after Gamescast and support Nick and the crew because this is a fun one. Four episodes of fun and it gets weird. And some surprise guests in the later episodes. Watch an old one. You know what I mean? Go watch an old one for us. Watch the ones where Mike and I talk about things that are a little bit more wholesome. Like don't go off the rails. about this one like whatever you do please don't talk nick knows about it tim knows about it yeah greg cannot know about this one because he'll play it in front of his kid and it's not gonna be oh roger and mike are fired uh don't watch this one don't watch this one everybody uh thank you to our patreon producers carl jacobs omega buster and delaney the psalm twining today we're brought to you by shady rays but we'll tell you all about that later for now let's begin with what is it forever will be the roper report it's time for some news six stories today i like that i like that energy i like that that that deepness in the yell that was good story number one from software reportedly has another unannounced game that could release next year this from andy robinson over at vgc elden ring studio from software reportedly has another unannounced multi-platform game in development with a release likely due next year that's according to mp1 no mp1st which claims that the japanese developer has a game codenamed fmc at quote advanced stages of production alongside upcoming switch 2 title the dusk Bloods and Elden Ring Night Reign's post-launch support.

15:43Tim Gettys:According to the publication, the unannounced game is likely to release no later than next year. It also conducted analysis into the unannounced title's codename, which it says is likely an abbreviation. It also notes that previous codenames, starting with the letter F, have been related to Dark Souls or Armored Core games this leads it to this leads it to speculate that the unannounced title could be a fires of rubicon expansion or the long expected dark souls 3 remaster i didn't know that was long expected uh mike what do you what do you think about this what is your first read initial knee-jerk reaction when you heard there's an unannounced 2026 from software game where did your mind go Oh, snap.

16:34They're over there developing a lot of games. We are getting nearly a yearly cadence of FromSoft games, and I love that. As someone who is a fan of a lot of their titles and franchises, I'm having a great time jumping from title to title, world to world, and I'm enjoying what we're at right now on this cadence. Of course, it's a lot, and of course, I'm sure it's not going to keep up on this kind of yearly track that we're on, but really when I look at it, I get excited about the possibilities, Roger. I know a lot of people out there weren't excited about the idea of these multiplayer offerings that we were getting them getting from them on these last two announcements, right?

17:10Night rain into dusk bloods. A lot of people were like, Hey, I don't want that. I'm here for the single player experience. And we always knew from soft is going to give you the single player experiences. They were just trying something else out. And now it looks like we're going to get an announcement sooner than later on that, which is really, really exciting. Now the question, where do you go? I'm an armored core guy right now. I really enjoyed Armored Core. Well, I'm coming off of Lost Planet, which is heavy into the mechs. And the final boss fight is ripped, like, straight out of Armored Core.

17:39So, like, I am very in tune and mindful of my mech gameplay right now. So, it's like, I'm into that. Especially, Fires of the Rubicon was so much fun. I played it late and finally came around on that one. After being just a Dark Souls guy, playing that late and really buying into it with help of our audience, I fell in love with that. I would love to see an expansion or just another mainline game. I think Sekiro is due for one. I know that kind of gets into Activision world, but like that game is so much fun. Or maybe a Sekiro like would be great, right? Use all those mechanics of the parry, of the breakdown, and go from there instead of just saying, hey, we got to partner with them or pay licensing fees.

18:23Let's just get over there and get ourselves.

18:24Tim Gettys:Yeah, it's so interesting, right? Because my brain goes to a Sekiro like, right? but the i is it is there a world where from software is too many franchises that they just have going or they've made one game of or we're just moving we have bloodborne we have dark souls we have armored core we have elden ring uh we have uh demon souls technically we have we have so many and we have the the duskbloods there's there's so many new franchises and franchises that they're that are not connected that are one-offs that are is that too many or should they just i feel like at the point now in my mind they should just be like hey we're making Sekiro 2 we're making we're making Bloodborne 2 we're just going we're going through it I think this is a really fun and rare occasion where you come for the developer not the franchise name it's a good call because I think you know all the franchises and what they do and there might be a lot but they're all very similar and how you play and what goes on with it right sure different settings but I think you're coming for the developer name and what the gameplay is and so that's the positive here as opposed to some other ones where you're like oh i'm coming for the franchise because i love those characters in that world here it's like throw me whatever you want this we go back to bloodborne you want to make bloodborne 2 i'm in on that right you want to jump all the way over and just say dark souls 3 remastered we're in on that as well so yeah i could go any which way they want to do this i'm coming for that team in the development yeah if i were to a betting man i would say it's probably dark souls 3 remastered uh or something to do with dark souls right now because we have elden ring we have night night rain and then now we have duskbloods uh and those are different types of games ellen ring of course is a huge open world video game uh we have uh the multiplayer games when it comes to night rain and duskbloods i i i feel like they want to go back to that original formula of like hey this might not be for everybody but let's make sure that everybody in our in our uh fan base can uh can play along for the next year or two years right if people are not into dusk pleasure don't have a switch right here's something that we know for sure is gonna hit and that would probably be a dark souls dark souls three remaster is a weird one for me though like does that need a remaster i mean i played it recently on my ps5 ps4 you know whatever 60 fps on my ps5 and it looked good it ran good like i don't to me that doesn't scream as one like we need a remaster from it.

20:43Tim Gettys:I mean, well, it came out 2016. So it's coming on nine, almost 10 years, right? So you could celebrate the 10 year anniversary, which we've seen a lot of companies dip into that bag and celebrate the old. For me personally, Dark Souls three would not be the one that I want. I don't want to remaster. The game is good enough. Of course, any sort of visual upgrade, any sort of tuning is a lot of fun and awesome to celebrate. But like, for me, I never liked Dark Souls three the most out of the trilogy. I am actually a two-in-one guy over three. I didn't like how we kind of went a little more linear on three as opposed to the other two, but it's still a great game.

21:19It just, the remaster wouldn't be the one that I want out of the options that we could do here.

21:24Tim Gettys:Yeah, I mean, it's interesting remaster, right? Like, is, I mean, my brain goes to a remake of these things. Like, we have not gotten a remake of any of the Dark Souls games yet, right? No, you just got Dark Souls 1 remasters, right? Yeah. But then you also get into a blur. We live in a world where remake and remaster. That's true. They could be saying remaster, they mean remake. Yeah, you're right about that. Anything is happening. I think it's an interesting one, of course, is your bread and butter is these single-player games, right? We haven't really seen if Night Rain took over like we thought it would.

21:56I think it topped some of the sale charts, but we haven't seen it become a global phenomenon. Sure. And it's not selling microtransactions, right? So there's a couple of things when it comes in this live service world that you look for, and it's not doing right. Like, true FromSoft stuff of, like, there's no microtransactions. The game's the game. That upfront cost is what you're going to pay, and you're going to enjoy this, right? So, like, on the front side is they're dipping into two multiplayer games and genres here. That's not their bread and butter. That's not what the audience is clamoring for.

22:28But clearly, they're making it work with Night Rain, but it's not as big as the next Elden Ring would be sales-wise.

22:33Tim Gettys:Yeah, I mean, it's pretty close. I mean, if I could pull up the Steam DB charts really quick. I mean, Elden Ring Prime, right? Like Elden Ring as itself has 40 ,000 players right now and had a peak of almost a million players, 953 ,000 players. And then for Elden Ring, Night Reign, Night Reign has 43 ,000 people playing right now and a peak of 313 ,000 people. So, of course, not as big as the original Elden Ring game, but that's a one in a billion game, right? So to have a fraction of that success and have 43 ,000 people playing that right now. Well, is it one in a billion game? because all of their titles are hitting this.

23:08Tim Gettys:But I mean, Elden Ring was like the breakout, beyond the breakout. That was the game that everybody was like, you heard about Dark Souls, even if you didn't play it, whatever, people bought Elden Ring. I know people that literally never played a From Software game, like I'm buying Elden Ring. I need to get into the Zeitgeist right now. Yeah, but it had already been previous 10 years of doing well. But I'm saying it's the end game. It is the culmination of all this stuff. Do you think the next one will be that then? Is that what you're expecting? No, no. Oh, whatever this is? single-player experience do you think it's elden ring level no no no no no i to me this is the the them trying a bunch of different things to get to elden ring 2 they are they're kind of building out the franchises they're making sure that everyone's happy they're having they have the armored core ready i don't think we're going back to armored core for a while we're gonna take a little bit we're gonna we're gonna make an actual proper sequel to that eventually uh then we have elden ring 2 which is probably in development there's no way that that game is not being made right now and then we have the duskbloods which is a which is kind of towards the bloodborne slash multiplayer aspect side of things and then you want to make sure your dark souls fans are happy so if they can focus on the dark souls element of it then i think you're good for a few years and then you can come back with elden ring 2 in i don't know 2028 or something like that 2029 you don't think bloodborne 2 i mean yes of course let's let's get the that's a that's a great bloodborne 2 multi-platform off of just first of all never that's never happening because i mean PlayStation owns that.

24:31Yeah. They will never let that happen. Sekiro. What if they point to Elden Ring sales and they go, but you could have a piece of this. Sure. I could see them doing the PC. You get 30 % of Xbox PC sales if we do this.

24:44Tim Gettys:I don't think Elden Ring becomes, I'm sorry, Elden Ring, Bloodborne 2 ever goes fully multi-platform. I could see the PC thing, but also let's be honest with Xbox sales. That's the, that's the, that's the pie that matters. The pie that matters is PC. so if you go PC and PlayStation you're good like that's the that's the Helldiver situation you just do that you're gonna be fine I could see that world in my mind if I were to go outside of Dark Souls and everything I could see Xbox playing nice with FromSoftware and just being like we make all our games multi-platform anyways like here's Sekiro like just do it like just make Sekiro 2 make it multi-platform here you go you can put it on everything and anything as long as we are publishing this game for you as Activision this is an Elden Ring DLC number two?

25:30A smaller one? No. Shadow of the Earth Tree was massive. What if this one's smaller? I mean, no.

Read the full transcript

25:39Tim Gettys:You have to be full on like we're going Elden Ring 2 now. Now you just keep on going backwards a little bit. Now we're just going to keep on updating this game forever. They have to be one step into we got to make another multi-billion dollar video game right now. Also the movie's happening. Of course we don't know when that's happening, but that's in the works. So you can probably see the gears turning of like, we got to figure out Elden Ring 2 by the time the movie comes out. So then we can kind of have this massive moment. And Elden Ring 2 is bigger than Elden Ring 1. That's my thought process on it.

26:08I mean, the positive is, is they have nothing but winners here. No matter which way you slice it, no matter where you want to go, it sounds all like a win, right? No matter what franchise you choose to go for, the single player bread and butter, which is your go-to, is going to pop off no matter what. And so the excitement that we could get this next year is crazy. Crazy. That's what we as gamers should probably be focusing in on here is if you weren't excited by Duskbloods, or if you didn't have a switch too, and you're not going to get one for this and you're like, Hey, multiplayer is on my thing.

26:39You're going to get a single player from soft game sometime, possibly next year is an insane thing to stay.

26:45Tim Gettys:Yeah, absolutely. We got a few super chats about this before we move on to the next story from eight bit to now super chats and says, imagine from soft goes back into their catalog and we get a remaster of a Tenchu game. Take my money. Yeah. I mean, I, they're, they are now in this dominant place where they can look back at their older franchises that maybe didn't get as much love and bring them into the forefront and boom, immediately it's going to be a top seller of the year. Just that is the dominant position. They are. I do think that Tenchu is just not on their radar though. I want them to team up and make a devil may cry game.

27:23that Devil May Cry 3 is so good. I want them to make a racing game. A racing game.

27:28Tim Gettys:What if we made a little racing game? We had a cart born and then they took that off. Yeah, it's still there. It's a different thing. Danny in the middle, 969 Super Chat says, don't disrespect Sekiro, their first game of the year winner. No disrespect here. I'm telling you. No one disrespected that one. Skyler for Slund over on YouTube Super Chat says, Do you think we'll even get an Elden Ring 2? Miyazaki said that they reached their limit for how large a world can go. Where do you go from here? I mean, I don't think it necessarily needs to be any bigger than that. Any bigger, just a different world, right?

28:04Tim Gettys:Like, you can take that world or you can remix it. Like, you've already seen it in Night Reign. Like, there's ways to... And also, Miyazaki, he'd be saying shit. You know, he'd be saying shit. Like, you know, yeah, sure. We've reached our limits. Here's the bag. Like, we can figure out something bigger. here's some feelings change yeah exactly here's some new technology we can make something bigger i mean that was coming fresh off of elden ring uh you know i'm sure the burnout was high so i can see i can see a world where they're continuing to build and make something bigger uh we have another one from the pen god dusk blood single player game blood swoon sworn oh that's interesting if they make like a a single player version of dusk bloods i feel like dusk bloods is going to be fine enough to play by itself or some version of it or is that fully a multiplayer game you're gonna step into the arena with me no matter what oh really yeah that's interesting though i like that thought process of like having ducks dust floods is like a multiplayer thing and then a single player thing that's interesting i didn't think about that a lot of super chats uh f uh sorry this is uh bode uh bode l y k also super chats and says uh the only ip not controlled by from soft is demon souls and bloodborne everything else is on the table activision has no ownership over sekuro oh i did not know that that's cool and of course last one from omega buster from soft oh another one before that from soft x lost planet collab for micah they have to learn how to shoot yeah that'd be cool they don't have to learn how to shoot they don't have to learn the uh this is one i'm going to read really quick but i don't know anything about this franchise uh nine syfe says from soft should go back to otogi never heard that one never heard the one chat let us know uh about otogi uh but i will let you know about our sponsors before we continue on for today uh we're gonna tell you a little about our sponsors and of course if you don't want to hear anything about our sponsors uh head over to patreon.com slash kind of funny and join the kind of funny membership that is also available on Spotify and Apple podcasts, but you're not.

33:18Tim Gettys:And we are back with story number two. Microsoft suddenly kills its movie and TV store on Xbox and Windows. This is from Tom Warren over at The Verge. Microsoft has suddenly shut its movies and TV store on Xbox consoles and Windows PC. As of today, you can no longer purchase new movies or TV shows from the Microsoft store on Xbox or Windows, but you will still be able to access previously purchased content on devices. Quote, downloads will continue to be available on Windows and in HD max resolution, says Microsoft, but you'll have to continue using the movies and TV app on Windows or Xbox to play the content you own rather than access it from another service.

34:05Tim Gettys:Unless you purchased movies as part of Movies anywhere in the U S Microsoft is not offering a refund for purchases either. Microsoft is now leaving it up to Amazon, Netflix, Apple TV, and the many other streaming video services to cater for movies and TV content on windows and Xbox. Microsoft will continue to provide support for any issues playing back, uh, previously purchased content and owners will be hoping the company keeps its servers online for many years to come. uh, I want to hear your take on this because you had more of a knee-jerk one than me when we first heard this one. Yeah, I was surprised at this one, Roger, as someone who has been in the Xbox ecosystem for a long, long time, right?

34:50And the Xbox was my home console. It was my everything. I was buying movies and TV shows back in the day via my Xbox, right? And so there's a little bit of a knee-jerk reaction. There is kind of like the first moment for Snowmike Mike, the all-digital purchaser now, going, oh, shit. Yeah. There goes that, right? No refunds. I'm never going to chase this. I'm not going to chase this app. I'm never going to go find out where to watch these. Those are just gone. Here's my first taste of that digital purchase. Yeah, that's going to be gone sometime. I am surprised at this. Especially when you and I were talking earlier this morning.

35:26The Xbox One being your home console. Everything at home is through this console. We've made strides past that. Where it is about the games. We want to focus on the games. it's interesting when you go to the store you used to be hit with games oh here's the top new movies and it felt like everything at all in every place at all at once but over the past what five to seven years since the dawn of Netflix app Hulu, Disney Plus Amazon Prime Apple TV there's so many apps now that I go to over the Xbox store right instead of paying $13.99 for Family Guy Season 5 like I used to now I'm going to whatever to watch those so business wise it makes sense right here's something that probably is not really that profitable people aren't coming to us to buy to play or watch movies or tv shows they're going to their apps let's stop doing this turn the server off let's move on from this on the flip side how many customers are like me who are even buying stuff right i doubt there's that many people

36:30Tim Gettys:yeah no it's it's interesting right because i remember god this is this is the first time i feel really old in a while is i remember downloading the netflix app on the xbox 360 like the day it came out and like that was a huge huge deal when xbox finally started to integrate all of these streaming platforms onto their services uh and now i i have uh movies that i've purchased through the xbox app uh and i was recently actually like literally literally two weeks ago um liens and i were on my xbox and i'm looking through i'm like oh wait i have movies on here i have tv shows on here that I purchased from back in the day when I didn't have Netflix, when I didn't have any of this stuff.

37:08Tim Gettys:I would use my Microsoft points that I had left over from buying, I don't know, a Walking Dead episode two, season one. And I would buy like, you know, Step Brothers that was like super on sale or whatever, the unrated version. I'm looking through all the things that I had. And I had the moment I was like, well, let me look through like, what is actually, that's the Netflix disc that you would get, you put into your Wii so you can watch Netflix on your Wii. That's really cool. And yeah, I remember watching, sorry, I remember looking through all of like the storefront and seeing like how many reviews are there for like the big movies that are coming out.

37:41Tim Gettys:And I, it was not many. It was like, it was a small amount of people that are reviewing these things that are even watching or buying these movies. So in my mind, right, like someone that doesn't see the business, that is not, doesn't see the numbers, doesn't see the ones and the zeros and how much this actually costs in terms of servers. I am like, oh, it's just a good to have right it's a nice thing to have extra money in your pocket you get to have oh there's a movie came out oh let me just i'm lazy and buy it on my xbox right maybe that's someone's entire platform is where they have all their movies they have all their tv shows on this one thing why not keep it up but i'm sure it costs a bunch of money i'm sure i'm sure it's very expensive to keep up you know for the you would assume thousands maybe of people that are actually actively buying things on their platform where most people have gone to amazon have gone or their Apple TVs have gone to the other services that they have that are abundant everywhere, just are not buying movies.

38:34It's such a quaint and fun idea for you to say, oh, that one person's whole entire ecosystem is right there. It's like, who's doing that?

38:40Tim Gettys:You know there is. There's a few. You think there's a – There's like – Okay. No, no, no. I'm not saying like hundreds of people. I'm saying like a dozen people in the world. There's a couple people out there that's like, this is my entire world. Yeah, exactly. Like, hey, I just – I started on here, and I just end on here. That's all it is. But the world – nobody's doing that now. It's right. Everybody's on all these different platforms and apps are getting their movies and television through different services. And yeah, it just makes sense. Right. I'm sure the numbers were small there. It was fun to go on to the store and see movies and television shows there.

39:12I thought that was always cool, but I'm coming to the console to play games. It is a games ecosystem. I'm here for the games. That's what I'm doing.

39:20Tim Gettys:Mellow fellow in chat says it's Microsoft, though. That's such a tiny blip. And I agree. I agree. I there is more that they could have done to make that more appealing and I think they tried they tried a lot of it right they tried a lot of the the cross promotion stuff they would try like hey this movie's coming out here's a game that you would like they would try doing this weird stuff on the on the front of your xbox um I also wouldn't be surprised if we hear the announcement in the next few months of like they've partnered with amazon and now you can you know amazon is now built into your xbox or something weird like that like you have you have something because they're not they're out of the business now of selling these things so why not partner with a streamer or a place that has all of these things available for you they they can still advertise and maybe they get a three percent codified whatever it is maybe it's just a deal where hey this company pays them money and now they're on the front page of xbox uh yeah of course amazon has an app on xbox i'm saying more of like an actual like integrated partnership to be like hey people are in are clearly uh okay with having advertisements for movies on their xbox so why not have somewhere someone else pick it up uh so i think that is interesting a little super chat for you norm uh super chat says physical media for the win can't disagree with you at all that is true physical media is more important but also i think about it i'm like i want to get a physical like disc or whatever for i want to buy like a blu-ray i'm like i guess i have my playstation five but like i'm never gonna use it i'm never gonna i'm just not the physical media guy i want to be i talk a big game like yeah exactly we want to be it but it's just not gonna happen story number three infamous director says he'd love to revisit the series but sucker punch is busy with ghosts of yote this is from andy robinson over at vgc the director of the infamous playstation series has said he'd love to revisit the franchise one day but suggested that no such plans are currently on the table.

41:17Tim Gettys:Sucker Punch game designer Nate Fox, who also helmed Ghost of Tsushima and the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, was asked by Game Informer if he'd like to one day revisit the action series. Fox said that while he'd love to work on more infamous content, Sucker Punch is currently focused on developing one game at a time. Quote, I would love to work on more infamous i would love to see a trilogy re-release but sucker punch is a one game at a time shop and right now we are focused on finishing ghost of yote he said uh interesting it is it is an interesting uh place for a company as big as sucker punch that is now doing one game at a time like how long do they stay doing one game at a time that's that was my first thought here is we see so all these big studios these big triple a studios specifically a little second exactly here's second team making a smaller game or an equally big game.

42:12Tim Gettys:But I know they're a very small studio in comparison. I think from the outside it's easy to say that, right? It's like, oh, you say that now, which is totally understandable. You're asking one of the team members in the middle of it all right before game day to prepare for that. And it's like, yeah, they're full head on Ghost of Yote. But what's to say after that comes out, we don't look at it and say, what if we spin up a small team? Right? We hear all about these passion projects, these small 12 to 20 person teams that are putting out games that they love. I'm sure inside of all these walls are saying, okay, well, when this ends, what can we do?

42:44What are our two big things that we want to do? What's the three game ideas that we would love to see? And they would figure it out. If Sony believed in it, they'd give them the money to make it up another studio. Yeah.

42:54Tim Gettys:Yeah. Another side of the studio. Yeah. It's, it is really, really interesting of you. I like part of me, like really appreciates and loves that a sucker punch is working on one game at a time. I think there is something special with having a studio that is fully focused on one franchise, one thing at a time, moving on, kind of having that cohesion behind everybody at the studio. But then also part of me is like, man, that is really tough when you're making a huge franchise like this, right? Because Ghost Yote is going to hit. That game is going to be big. That's going to make a lot of money. So then if they want to continue being a one-game studio, that means they're going to be working on Ghost forever.

43:33Tim Gettys:It's an interesting conundrum right there. I think it's going to be eventually they're going to have to split off a little bit or they're just the ghost studio maybe that's what they want to be but clearly there is some type of interest in Nate over here wanting to go back to Infamous wanting to potentially do something else that is outside of Yote and Tsushima so eventually we're going to have to get to the place where there is two studios or maybe just another company is working on the Infamous remaster or something but it's interesting that he says that like yeah he wants to see that infamous remaster or that trilogy re-release but to me that doesn't even scream like something that sucker punch would do like that's something that like contract yeah you would contract that one out but maybe there is reverence enough for that franchise and he cares about that franchise so much because that's his baby that he would want to do that himself like they would want to make that an internal project um yeah that's that's super interesting to me did you ever play the infamous games no i was a prototype kid.

44:30That was an Xbox. You are a prototype kid for sure. I was a prototype kid.

44:34Tim Gettys:Yeah, but you seem like a prototype kid. Prototype one and two, you know. Yeah, you seem like that type of guy. Were you a darkness guy? Oh, yeah, of course. Of course I was. Of course I was a darkness guy. This one's interesting. I'm excited to talk to you about this one. Number four, story number four. Valve pulls adult-only games from Steam as it tightens rules to appease payment partners. This is from Vicky Blake over at IGN. Valve is tightening its guidelines around adult-only content to satisfy rules set by Steam's payment processing partners, with dozens of sexually explicit games removed from the platform throughout the week.

45:13Tim Gettys:As spotted by GameSpark and shared by AutoMaden, SteamDB logs show a flurry of activity behind the scenes as Steam updated its rules and guidelines policy, making it clear that publishing certain kinds of adult-only content could violate them. Certain kinds. Let's keep that in mind, everybody. The newly added Clause 15 of the policy now explicitly states content that may violate the rules and standards set forth by Steam's payment processors and related card networks and banks or internet network providers shouldn't be posted on Steam. The X slash Twitter account for SteamDB revealed a long list of pornographic games recently delisted from Steam.

46:01Tim Gettys:It follows a public outcry earlier this year when UK Technology Secretary Peter Kyle slammed Steam for hosting a sexually explicit visual novel in which the protagonist engaged in non-consensual sexual content. However, Valve's new guidelines were criticized by some who have expressed concern over censorship and the vagueness of valve's language around its rules man this is an interesting one because immediately you jump to well what's on steam right now because you you and i love to go through the new and uh trending list on steam and you just see that you just see the wildest stuff the wild wild west over there the wildest stuff in the world and we were like okay let's see what they scrubbed and they haven't scrubbed much there's some stuff of course clearly this list has been taken down.

46:51Tim Gettys:But there's a lot of sexually explicit stuff there that is very clearly like, hey, we're trying to make an adult, adult, adult game. The Naughty Vampire and the Moaning Forest released on July 17th, 2025. So just 24 hours ago. They have about four other titles quickly right below that. But of course, it's week one. Yeah, we'll see where this goes. It's going to be a rollout. Maybe that was already through the system and ready to rock and roll. but this will be a very interesting conversation because when I go to steam and sometimes even the Nintendo eShop, I am kind of stunned and surprised at the games that I see, right?

47:27But there is a conversation of like, Hey, this is their art. Art is art. We're putting it out there and you can click on the tab that says, I don't want to see mature content. And you can hide all that from your store page. So you don't have to see it. You can click on that and buy that. If that's your kind of fancy but it is interesting of we're seeing steam here say you know what we've been working with other companies and they might not like that and we kind of have to work with them because they're processing your payment and giving us the money that you give us and so yeah maybe we can't be doing that so it'll be interesting to see rog i don't have much say on this because this comes to a whole nother level above me that's like i'll just sell the adult games or hey man i I don't know if I need a harem and in the lust card game on my, on my page right here.

48:14What was the stepsister one? What was that one? Don't tell mom. I fed my stepsister splash emoji. Yeah. I wonder what it was. That's a$10 and four cents game. Oh wow. Four cents.

48:24Tim Gettys:It's on sale. 50 % off. Oh wow. That's huge. Wow. $20. Oh my gosh. Yeah. It's interesting to me. Cause of course, yeah. The, the stuff that Peter Kyle over in the UK was talking about, that's awful stuff. It needs to be removed from steam immediately and expeditiously. but uh there is also the world where people are horny and make horny games and people have have it's consenting adults and consenting people in these stories uh and i think that is that should be fine but it is when it comes down to it uh yeah it's i think it's going to be steam doing a very specific and discerning like hey we're going to take down this thing because it has xyz that we find is is above that line but they're going to keep on these things there yeah are horny games that are sexually explicit but are not necessarily rocking the boat in terms of uh the things that they deem shouldn't be on the store so i i at first it's going to be a lot of like they're going to be picking choosing and then we're going to see in the next few weeks if the card holders are still happy or happy at all if they're not then we see the world where we just remove all porn from them from this uh site if we remove all sexually explicit content that isn't you know a nude scene in a video game but is these games like the stepsister one where you're clearly just fucking your stepsister so yeah content that may violate the rules and standards set forth by steam's payment processors and related card networks and banks or internet network providers right so these are all teams and organizations that they're partnered up with that they're working with that are all probably having a conversation every day of what they find okay don't find okay what they want associated with their companies and steam also at the same time is working with them because they're not doing all your card payment processes, right?

50:05So they want to make sure it's easy for them and easy for the group as well.

50:10Tim Gettys:So yeah, we'll keep an eye on this one for sure and see how that evolves. Talking about Steam, story number five. Valve boss Gabe Newell says he's been retired in a sense for a long time, but in reality, works seven days a week from his bedroom on his boat because he's having so much fun. This is from Vicky Blake at IGN. valve co-founder and boss gabe newell has offered a rare insight into his life talking about his days living working and enjoying life on a quote boat i don't know why it's a quote maybe it's a yacht uh in conversation with a youtuber called zalkar salib who had just 19 subscribers at the time of this interview clips went live they've since acquired several hundred more the 62 year old gabe newell uh said he's worked seven days a week from his bedroom on his super yacht there's the boat um quotation because it's fun and he still likes working asked to describe his daily routine in an interview valve has confirmed to pc gamer is real newell said i get up i work i go scuba diving work some more i either go on a second scuba dive or i go to the gym and work out then i work i live on a boat so i just hang out with everybody on the boat.

51:25Tim Gettys:That's awesome. Quote, I work seven days a week. He added, I'm working from my bedroom. As you could tell, I like working. It's fun to me. It doesn't feel like work. The things, the kinds of things that I get to do every day are super awesome. I've said it before, but when you retire, you want to stop doing your horrible job and then you go do what is most fun and entertaining. So in that sense, I've been retired for a long time. Expanding on the types of work that keeps him busy these days, Newell said, get to work with Drew and Jeremy on AI stuff or Chris on Steam stuff. In one of the companies, we're working on an aerosol pathogen detection device so you can see all the pathogens that are in the air.

52:10Tim Gettys:Holy shit. That's me saying holy shit, not game dual uh brain computer interfaces are incredibly cool and all of the associated neuroscience is incredibly cool so i just work all the time but it's not like oh my god i'm up at i'm up late at night slaving away on some stuff it's more like i can't go to sleep because i'm having fun you know pretty sick that's called rich rich dudes dudes rock yeah dudes absolutely rule dude that's called uh living deep in the golden triangle right that's the life you want to be a part of uh yeah i mean that's i think everybody wishes we could be that right so rich we live on a yacht and we're so passionate about something that is fun to us that we can pour our hearts and soul into while still scuba diving chatting with our best buds on our big mega yacht and still having fun and sleeping well at night right i mean the guy has created something where he can live that life now and so that's what it looks like and that's what could happen bro is incredible like first of all like this is insane that this is an interview from someone that had 19 subscribers gets like the most the most insane access to like the most mysterious man in the world and then also like shout out to Gabe Newell like having more money than Jesus Christ and God and everybody combined in this world having so much money just doesn't make his bed just doesn't make his bed before he does an interview doesn't even do the blur thing you don't even give a shit You don't even give a shit.

53:34Tim Gettys:He's just like, this is my life. I'm living on a boat. I'm living Dave the Diver, bro. I'm just going scuba diving. Doesn't make his bed. It's incredible stuff. Hitting the computer, having some fun. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of cool. I didn't know that he was working on all this different stuff. How exciting. Outside of stuff. He's working on AI stuff. I mean, like every tech billionaire and person is working on AI stuff in some regards. Working on Steam stuff too, which is nice. He says Steam specifically. I like that. That's interesting. I wonder how does he mean action? Maybe he knows about the adults only content maybe that's the reason he put the button on it he's like maybe he's having a conversation about it yeah yeah uh but he doesn't say valve though right like i think we all associate him with more of like the the oversight of like valve as like a creative division like half-life and all that stuff but he said specifically steam there it might just be him using it as the same word right valve and steam same thing uh but still interesting to me uh and he's working on the thing to figure out the aerosol pathogen detection device like that's wild stuff that's some that That's a big money stuff right there.

54:32Tim Gettys:The big money stuff. But Mike, I'm tired of all the big money stuff. I want something small, but I wanted something way smaller. Maybe the tiniest news I need to know about. Where should I go? Roger, I take you to our last story. The We News channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about.

54:51Tim Gettys:Story number six. We News Shadow Labyrinth Review Roundup. This is the Pac-Man Metroidvania type deal thing going on here. Oh, snap. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Metacritic sitting at a 74. OpenCritic, 75. PC Gamer gave it a 74 out of 100. They say, a good Metroidvania trapped in the shadow of too many better ones. Banger. Give that person a raise. That's a banger. Push Square gave it a 6 out of 10. It says, unfortunately, while there are some fun elements taken from the arcade classic and a few neat ideas sprinkled in. The majority of the game is, by the numbers, Metroidvania that doesn't quite come together.

55:33Tim Gettys:Yes, this is about what I expected. Just like, I don't know, from looking at the trailers and stuff. It looks interesting and weird, but I don't know. There's so many Metroidvans. I feel like we're now in a super saturated Metroidvania landscape right now. So unless you're making some of the goats, I don't think I want to play it. But this one has Pac-Man. I guess. This is not the Pac-Man I want, though. They sent over some really cool merch and stuff, but like it's not the pac-man i want i just want pac-man yeah it's like if they put tetris in here it's like i just want to play tetris i just want to play pac-man i don't want whatever i get it even something cool but like i don't that's not what i want for this ip we met pac-man once we did that the pac-man bro that was sick that was sick fbc firebreak is getting a major update in late september remedy has detailed a lot of what they're going to do with fbc firebreak and a blog post on their steam page uh really quick they did talk about how they're overhauling the way that gun progression works, which was a huge negative that Mike and I had throughout our review time.

56:30Tim Gettys:And they also said that they're going to, from what I gathered, they said that they're going to have like every, all the guns are going to start off like pretty, like you feel good using them. Like it's not like they're super underleveled, like they start off now. So I'm willing to try this out again. Maybe we should schedule a stream and try it out when the new update goes live. And I'm hoping that game turns around because I feel like that team, there's something there. It just needs some tweaks. So I hope that there's an audience that comes around to them. From VGC, Mario Kart Tour, the mobile game from Nintendo and DNA is getting its first update in years this month.

57:01Tim Gettys:The pair have announced the Sunshine Tour will roll out starting on July 22nd with content designed to celebrate the recent release of console game Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2. Dream of Another launches October 10th. Pixel Junk Eden 2 for PS5, PS4, and PC launches October 10th. and Nintendo Switch Online new feature closed play test returns from July 28th to August 10th and that is the end of Wii News. That is the weird MMO thing that they're going for that people have already leaked from under NDA but people just start streaming it. I didn't know about that. Yeah so that's out there.

57:41What is that like a Roblox? A PS Home?

57:42Tim Gettys:I don't even know from what I've seen. Like chat you can let us know but like yeah it seemed like you're building stuff with people so yeah it's interesting. We'll see how that goes. It seemed pretty early uh before uh let's get into some super chats i'm gonna look around a little bit we did answer some before so i'm gonna try to find some more uh guitar hero arrow says fmc equals felden ring 2 nice that's good that's good that's good that got me uh nine cypher writes in again and says otogi was in the original series by from soft like sekiro but with magic and destructible environments. It's sick.

58:19Tim Gettys:That's awesome. Okay. Oh, we got the trailer over here. Oh, damn. Is that a fish guy? Giving original Xbox vibes. Yeah. Yeah, I like that. It's giving even Otogi. Damn. Video games, cool, man. God. Oh, cool game. Yeah, they should remaster. You know what? You want this? Now this is going to be yours? You're going to ride for this one? This is going to be my niche thing. I'm going to start saying this thing. I'm going to start saying this, then people will be like, wow, you're smarter than you are and i'm like i'm not i stole it from soft games well i know from soft games i watched a trailer once um a lot of jokes about gunan a lot i'm gonna skip over those i'm sick a lot of jokes of vergunan uh okay uh bode uh in super chat and says look i know this is a hot take given the context of the games that i got hit by this but i really don't like the precedent the sets yes it starts with these weird games but it's just a precedence that we can deem anything taboo at their will i get it i like i'm not i'm not i i understand that that idea here uh but at the end of the day this is a private company having to deal with uh the the literal thing that keeps it alive and that is the credit card companies and the people that are that are allowing the the card swipes to go through so they're at the will of them and yes ideally they would have the press the thing of like we are standing by our artists of course we'll take anything down that has sexual assault or anything awful in it but if people are making horny games let's just let them have horny games like who cares that would be the ideal world but that is not specifically when you see the credit card holders who have stopped payments on porn websites and uh marijuana um establishments that are legal uh it's that's they that is literally their will and that is their right to do it and now steam is at their uh they gotta play ball they gotta play ball they gotta play ball so it sucks and yes ideally that's what it would be but i understand the sentiment and it sucks uh mike we're gonna go to your wrong when i pick it up really quick i can't find it i'm scrolling i'm scrolling i'm scrolling but you know what i don't think we got anything wrong i think we're perfect yeah we learned that uh and we're perfect man we learned that sekiro is fully owned by from soft no more activision so that's always good to have in your back pocket to know uh
