4:09six stories today a baker's dozen

4:18Tim Gettys:you're the host oh you just looked at me like you had something to say i mean i always have something to say somebody in the chat asked if she had the samsung trifle no buy an iphone be a normal person You know what I mean? Don't get a fucking tripod. We all need less phone. We don't need more phones. I don't know why we've got this thing. We need iPhones. We need all this shit. We need no. We know. Just get one fucking small little phone. We need the iPhone mini mini. Yeah. That's what we need. You want to go back. Yeah. That's what I want. I want a Blackberry. We should bring them back. Yeah.

4:50Tim Gettys:They're fully gone away now. They're fully gone away, but there's like a clicks communicator thing, which is like a Blackberry that's coming out soon. I think I might get that. Okay. Oh, good. Story number one. How often do you use the buttons on your watch? Accidentally press them. You got this watch with your calculator thing. Yeah. Oh, you mean the calculator? Yeah. Sometimes I write boobs on it. That's about it. Cool. Yeah. Yeah, cool. Yeah, cool. Story number one. Nintendo Direct coming up next week. Report says is from Eddie Maka as at GameSpot. Jesus Christ. The first major Nintendo Direct of 2026 will be held in the first week of February, according to a noted insider.

5:29Tim Gettys:Nate the Hate said on his podcast this week, from what I have been told, the first direct of 2026 will be held during the opening week of February. He said the event may take place on Thursday, February 5th, though he was not able to confirm this with, quote, his best contacts. He said he will let people know if things change. But right now, this seems to be the timetable that I'm hearing from my contacts. He went on to say that there is, quote. Barrett, don't. Don't, Barrett. Don't. I don't want to dream, Barrett. Don't let me dream, Barrett. This is going to be the new Silk Song. For every Nintendo Direct, I always would put a Silk Song footage up.

6:10If you're an audio listener, it's Ocarina of Time. He's throwing Ocarina of Time out there because we want a remake. We want the remake.

6:16Tim Gettys:He wanted to say that there is, quote, consensus building that a Direct will take place in the first week of February. However, Nate the Hate said he does not know what the rumored show's format may be, so he can't say for sure if it's a direct focus on first party games or a partner showcase but he said he is confident that some form of direct is coming soon it would be the third direct of 2026 following a super mario galaxy movie direct on january 25th and the tamadachi life living the dream direct on january 28th 9th while the rumored nintendo direct in february is not confirmed Nintendo has announced that it will release its next earnings report on Tuesday, February 3rd.

7:00Tim Gettys:We're getting a Nintendo rec next week, right? I think so. Yeah. It seems like it's the time. It seems like the rumblings are there. The question, yeah, is this some indie world thing? Is this some Nintendo first party thing? What are we going to get? You always hope that you get the big one, right? You get the big one at the beginning of the year so we can look forward to it. I mean, we have kind of like an empty-ish Nintendo year in terms of like dates and everything. Of course, we have Tamodachi Life. That's going to be a huge fucking hit. We got to get that right before we get the February one.

7:30Tim Gettys:We want to make sure everyone's focused on Tamodachi Life. But then past that, worth the date for Fire Emblem. Where the fuck is some type of Mario game? We have to get something, right? Well, you're getting Aces, which I think is pretty... Mario Tennis. Sorry, not Aces. Mario Tennis. Fever. Thank you very much, which is imminent. That's like, what, two weeks away? So you imagine again, you're getting your direct. Okay, cool. Is it just a Mario tennis direct? Not that that would be horrible. I'm excited for that game. Want to see more. Yeah. Is it one of those where it's like, no, it is 25 minutes just about Mario tennis.

8:00Or is it, Hey, we're going to talk about lots of games. And we put Mario tennis in there as a way to sell it, obviously in imminently, but then yeah, talk about the rest of the year. I of course am the Pokemon guy. So I'm a little out of my realm when it comes to Mario. Nothing else. I don't hold my breath for a Mario this year. I just like a 3d Mario we're back just because of course the team that did Odyssey is the team that did Donkey Kong so like what are we talking like yeah they just put out a game it wasn't a Mario and I don't know if you have someone else working on that I know there's always these rumors and desires for a Galaxy 3 well we have the movie we should tie in and do something there and there should be like yes all that makes sense but Nintendo is known for the WNDs like I don't think they are necessarily sitting there going oh we

8:41Tim Gettys:have to have that for it yeah when I was doing my predictions of the year that I saw the future from uh the pills that i was taking i looked forward to some form of spinoff or something to coincide with the movie but the more i'm thinking about it we have the wonder dlc that they just uh which is also imminent right yeah exactly and you play as rosalina in that one uh they have the yoshi game that is already announced that is you know coming tbd this year uh so we have enough mario adjacent things of course adding on tennis there uh so i i am one of the in the camp that i don't think we're getting a 3d mario specifically but i wouldn't be surprised if there is some type of spin-off thing but again yoshi kind of scratches that itch so what is that but i do think that there is you look forward to the rest of the year it is an and not empty but it's comparatively to the launch year you are of nintendo there's something we need to fill that out you are correct that the dance card is empty right now and empty i'll use loosely again mario tennis well uh the pokemon popipa whatever the fuck it is that i'm excited for i want to do i'm gonna i'll be a creepy ass ditto and have a little animal crossing world farming life sure or why not?

9:43Tim Gettys:You have a Splatoon in the ether. That's the thing where it's like, there's a lot of ether and there's a lot of games that I would say are that B tier. We need the A tier and we need the S tier and you need Nintendo to come out and tease that because they had a great year last year for the Switch 2. So what do you come out here and toss your way? What do you toss our way to get us excited and keep us excited to have our Switches in our hands? And again, I think as Nintendo continues to make such strides with the Switch 2 and third-party support, one of the big things we talked about at the launch of the Switch 2 was the fact that third parties didn't have dev kits.

10:13Well, now they have. What do you have? What have you been working on? What are the games that haven't come to Switch 2 yet that could have a great addition to it? What are the ones that you look at and go, okay, we are already coming out this year. What can we announce as a Switch 2 version of that? I was talking about yesterday, the Reigns Witcher got me back into the Witcher and playing the Witcher. Witcher 3 doesn't have a Switch 2 version. I can easily see that being a slam dunk announcement from them of like, hey, now Witcher 3 does have a Switch 2 version. runs at whatever frames and does this docked and yada yada yada like a big one for me is minecraft

10:46Tim Gettys:too that's an easy i'm sorry minecraft switch to not minecraft too that's high minecraft minecraft two would be big news i agree uh but minecraft switch too i think that's a that's an easy slam dunk uh for i think an early um this year announcement i mean that's a that's a big one right there yeah but yeah of course you want to you want to build it out with those switch to updates but yeah i i am very interested in as something that a super chat right here from bandar SN says Luigi's Mansion 4 out this October takes place in a haunted peach castle levels are spooky versions of Mario 64 levels last level is a big booze haunt uh something like that I think would would kind of go hard do you think it's about time for like a Luigi's Mansion type deal when was Luigi's Mansion 3 I reviewed that I know we then had Luigi's Mansion 2 remaster HD whatever the fuck that was I reviewed that one as well um I think the time is always right for another ghost busting luigi's mansion game 2019 chat saying 2019 thank you very much so yeah that could easily be something you slot in here but again i don't know what it is but i feel like you need a mario title game in there not a mario i don't think mario 3d i agree wonders getting updated so i don't even know if it's just a mario golf i mean no we got tennis like yeah i feel like it can't be a sports thing it has to be its own thing yeah but we also yeah mario galaxy 2 being already remastered and out there just kind of like fucks up the whole thing for me.

12:13Tim Gettys:Because I would have predicted like oh we remake one of those games. What are the odds of a new Mario RPG? You think so? I don't know. I'm tossing out. I mean you're right. We put them both out. I do not think we're getting a 2D. Rusty Pond you son of a bitch. There it is. Mario Maker 3. I have been talking about it since they showed that fucking mouse controls and all that jazz. Mario Maker Mario Maker in general amazing. Mario Maker 2 for some reason didn't feel like it had the impact Mario Maker 1 did. You put out, hey, here it is. Mario Maker 3 and there's new levels and there's new whatever in there.

12:47Tim Gettys:And it's 3D. And you could do it in 3D. That would fucking blow everything out of the world. That would blow it away. They would never fucking do that. But I think with the Switch 2's power and the mouse controls and even, I mean, it would be lame, but a Mario Maker 2 Switch 2 edition. I really think there's juice there somewhere if people would let them get out there and go. to few super chats over here for more predictions if they hold on to you and then mental gaming says hear me out zelda maker i don't need to hear you out i'm in go ahead make me a zelda maker i obviously we're making like a 2d zelda you know what i mean fuck yeah let's go back to you roger this is big from aaron lime super chat and say nintendo is announcing my parents are getting back together and the tooth fairy is real by the by that i mean we're getting the next mgs collection with mgs4 no no fucking way they don't never at a nintendo event no but also that game is yeah i I don't think that's happened anytime soon.

13:36I wish. I mean, I'll take that anywhere I can get it. Peace Walker, let's go.

13:40Tim Gettys:Openness Prime says, if they updated DKCR, this Donkey Kong Country... Returns. Returns. We're getting Odyssey S2 edition. Play as Luigi, New World. Also, remember when Greg threw baby Ben over his shoulder the first time we saw him. Does Tim have the balls? Well, we know Tim doesn't have the balls. So no, that wouldn't happen. That wouldn't happen. You know what I mean? interesting with the with the two switch to additions we already have a free update that's like yeah we get into that weird bag of like sure i guess we could do dlc but we already have just the free update there so i mean why didn't they just wait on that one yeah yeah yeah i feel too like to what we're talking about as we look into this black hole of nintendo yeah it's got to be it can't I don't want they can't be leading us on for the rest of the year on a switch to edition switch to editions are cool I'm glad they exist I'm gonna play tears of the kingdom that way soon but I'm not sitting here going like oh yeah super Mario Galaxy or I'm sorry Mario Odyssey switch to edition is what's coming sometime later in the year and that gets me hyped to be a Nintendo fan no like we need something new you need something cool and that's why I go Mario Maker 3 a Luigi's Mansion for sure.

14:58But again, even Luigi's Mansion, which gets its just due, doesn't get the pomp and circumstance of a million other games. You know what I mean? So it's like, no. Yeah. Bear, can you run the Luigi, goddammit, the Yoshi thing that you're talking about? Because I remember it, but I forgot about it as well.

15:13Tim Gettys:Yeah, it kind of has like a little bit of a stop motion. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I don't have like super exciting hopes for that one, but I mean, it's going to be a cute little kids game. Jake says Wind Waker HD. somebody else in the sorry it was a super chat and emotions 1000 said what are the chances of a new mainline zelda no very low no maybe like another like a pretty link's awakening kind of thing like but then we're into just what we're talking about before of all right here's an ocarina remake or whatever like i i would say almost like a a way to play link between worlds on the switch is way more likely than a new uh zelda game in the next three years yeah yeah 100 100%.

15:52I forgot about this Yoshi, right? You're right. They're going to do stuff with it.

15:55Tim Gettys:Lucid Dream has a really fun one. SimCity, except you play as Mayor Bowser, building up an evil mushroom kingdom, and Mario is a natural disaster threatening citizen. That's very cool. I love that. I love that one. I love that. I wish they would do that. I love that too. This is from Yo, Call Me Rob. Roger seems like a guy who loves shit movies. I can confirm that. That's true. Yo, Mama. Whoa. Moving on to story. Are we done with this? So do we have any other big predictions? I guess the link. Yeah. The Ocarina of Time remake thing, but I mean like, fuck man, that's, there's gotta be something.

16:32Tim Gettys:How many times are you going to say that? There's gotta be something Zelda this year. Because Tim always points out like they do something. Maybe it's not the biggest thing, but there's something right. It could be Ocarina of Time. It could be something much smaller. The thing that I was going to bring up as well, we're coming up on what? seven eight months with the switch to we haven't gotten like a significant update to mario kart world oh that's good yeah yeah yeah yeah maybe that's something out there i hope this is true i love a good direct yes i love i love an excitement in the air see what that's gonna be yeah i but it's like what do they got what do they got i know what they got what do they got but we've been here before it's also the 40th anniversary of celda right?

17:19Yes. I think. That's a big one. The big four zero. Do Ocarina. Just do it. Just do it. Just do it. They barely did anything for the 35th. Toss Majora's Mask. Do it.

17:28Tim Gettys:Yeah, come on. Come on. Have fun. Can you believe how good that trailer was that Barrett showed at the start for Ocarina time? It's crazy. You watch it like that's a fucking game right there. I gotta play it one day. You wait for this? I'll wait for the remake. Wait for the remake. This is for story number two. This is breaking. This was happening right as we were going live. Amazon lays off layoffs and also the game, the games boss has left the company. We're going to start over with Sophie McEvoy over at gamesindustry.biz. Amazon announces further layoffs, 16 ,000 roles impacted. And then following up on that, we have Jason Schreier on BS.

18:04Tim Gettys:That is Blue Sky Tim. Breaking, Amazon Game Studios boss, Christoph Hartman, formerly the head of 2K, is leaving the company. Bloomberg News has learned as Amazon continues its retreat from the PC and console video game space in favor of its cloud gaming service, Luna. Yeah, this is massive news. I mean, I was watching some of it when I was at the gym of just the general Amazon layoffs. They're closing all their retail brick and mortar stores. No shit. Yeah, so the Go, the Freshs, they're all gone. Of course, hopefully it's still around. But that's kind of where a lot of these layoffs are coming.

18:38Tim Gettys:But it seems like this is just a company-wide situation. this is just Greg if I'm being completely and utterly honest with you it's just been a fucked up few weeks and like when I look at this news I just am so angry so deeply angry especially when Amazon is over here funding a fucking Melania Trump puff piece movie that they're opening up the entirety of the stock market this morning they have Melania up there and they fucking Amazon executives and it's like you guys are laying off 16 fucking thousand people putting 50 million dollars into some dumbass Melania movie and it's just it is just full on like this is the most evil corporation in the fucking world it breaks my heart and they have no idea what the fuck they're doing when it comes to video games and it just keeps on showing that they're just going to continue to chase luna and cloud service until that inevitably goes and i mean reuters is reporting right that like these layoffs uh that are coming to amazon web services retail prime video and human resources department are really funded by them pushing ai right like they're doing that and i think then you come down to what we're always talking about on this show sadly you have to hear the same headlines insert a different company and then the same explanation from me right of what you have here are the usual stock market grifters right in these companies where it's like you have a company that continues to get bigger they're a giant success but then they got to keep fueling that success so how do you do that you have to go look for new gimmicks new lanes new revenue streams to chase and so as you've seen with multiple other companies.

20:06Hey, Meta, how are you doing? You go, oh, if I'm Meta, virtual reality. If I'm Amazon, I go, oh, video games, cloud streaming, whatever, try this stuff out. And as you get into those markets that you did not fucking understand, that you did not stop and actually listen to anybody who knows what they're fucking talking about, you realize, oh God, there isn't triple digit revenue here. There's maybe single digit revenue here, right? So you do it trying to make a buck, but really not making anything out of it. you end up stopping laying people off closing and then chasing the next fucking thing and ai is the next fucking thing for all these companies to chase right now as they try to make a buck and as they inevitably figure out they can't do that there they close that up and then it's the next fucking thing the next fucking the next fucking the next fucking thing until they're all out of

20:48Tim Gettys:business it is it is so interesting to see amazon which i think is kind of uniquely incompetent at creating uh and and entering into these new businesses right i look at their the move their movie division right buying up the entirety of mgm and just not knowing how to market a fucking movie not able to make a hit and you have infinite money you have the infinite money glitch and them going into games being like we can do this we can make all this happen and yeah we'll start with new world yeah it's like no that's definitely not going to work out and yeah i just i look forward to you know the tomb raiders and everything it's like that's not going to last like that is going to be they're going to put those out and they're not going to do as well as they want to and they're going to shutter those teams they're just yeah it is it is so deeply upsetting to see the reach of our basically tech overlords that own every single part of everything like the fact that amazon owns fucking james bond like is just is is dystopian in a very interesting way and i think i've been more and more sensitive to that in the last few weeks and i think i'm like not in the hope phase i think i'm in the doomer phase for sure more in my life than yeah because i think when I was younger, I would be like the person that's like, man, like this all sucks, but like, we'll figure it out.

21:59Tim Gettys:Like we got this. This is the American experiment. We'll figure this out. And now I'm just like full on doomer, you know, gloomer. Like, I don't know what's going on and what, how we can fix this, but it doesn't help when we are all barreling towards an AI future that is, that doesn't respect human beings. And I think that that is the biggest thing here that of course frustrates me and frustrates everybody is that we have these companies that truly want a fraction of the human beings that are working under them so then they can make even more money and save and and and hoard it all and i don't see any people in our government doing anything about it like we are just barreling towards this future where where the human actual hours and investment in work is going to be demeaned demeaned demeaned until we are all living in this you know hellscape where we have the not top 1%, top.0001%, and then everyone else is just living below the poverty line.

22:58Yeah.

22:59Tim Gettys:It's nihilist, but that's just where I'm feeling right now. Yeah, I think the way to combat that in terms of the outlook, right, and especially in this example, is to look outward. I think when you look at Amazon and you look at these big companies buying up IPs, buying up studios, buying whatever, you have to realize, I think, as much as there are exceptions to the rule and whatever, you're looking at them going to retirement home slash their death walk. Like when Amazon buys something, how long they support it is unknown, but it will end at some point, right? And you can insert any major corporation here, right?

23:36Because the problem to what you're talking about in a sense is that nobody is buying the product because they believe in the product. They're buying the product because they think it can make them money. That's all any of this is. There's no love that you have when you're a creator making a thing. When you buy something on Etsy and you see somebody who poured their heart and soul into this thing and they just want to make fucking magnets. They just want to make phone cases, whatever it is, right? That's them with a passion project doing something they love because it's for the love. And then maybe you get successful.

24:07Maybe Taylor Swift wears the sweater. You see these stories and then it blows up and they have more orders and it's quit the job and yada, yada, yada. That's all awesome. it's the argument of shopping local and i think that gets weird i'm talking about etsy but i'm talking about shopping from independent creators businesses restaurants grocers whatever it is where they're more in san francisco we're so lucky that we have so many different outlets that are all independent businesses that yes the shirt at san francisco costs more than a shirt at fucking walmart or target but it's because i know christian did it and sourced the material and did the thing and paid the artist to get the art on the show.

24:43You know what I mean? There's all those things that go into it to make it what it is. And so when you talk about this nihilist view of Amazon and the 1 % and yada, yada, yada, I feel like you look at this, and especially where we are with all the tech conglomerates, with all the billionaires we have right now, and it's all of them circling the same drain they've been circling for a long time. And I'm not saying they're going down the drain, but it is the idea that when something here gets bought, when Amazon goes and does this and buys Tomb Raider, and I'm always unsure about this, do they own crystal dynamics or they're just partnered with crystal dynamics i can never i think they're partnered right now right but they own tomb raider whatever the fuck it is like it's like that's bad news for tomb raider that is bad news for tomb raider who they will eventually walk away from not treat with the respect it deserves yada yada yada blah blah blah but there are so many different ips so many different games so many different ideas that are happening each and every day from independent developers and independent businesses and companies that you can go support and you can go find absolutely and i know we all want to i mean i'm the fucking ghostbusters guy superman guy i know we all want to be attached to these ip because we remember them when they were in their glory days and the nostalgia and being a kid and yada yada yada but at some point you got to realize that that isn't what this is anymore it isn't those people making this anymore right that's why you got to turn your attention to game developers who are doing stuff that is speaking to you you know you and me looking at that game yesterday uh over your shoulder that i've already forgotten the name of but it's like that's an rpg i want to play I'm going to go get codes for that.

26:06I'm going to go try to buy that. I'm going to go do that. Like you got to go do that. And I know that that isn't, doesn't solve the problem of the fucking AI bullshit we're all doing. But it also seems like every so often the headline squeaks out of like, man, they're defaulting on the loan because it isn't doing what is like AI sucks. And isn't a slam dunk across the board in any way, shape or form. So as they chase this for video games and as these video games come out, they clearly are going to fucking suck with AI. Like back to yesterday's games daily, back to the Xbox developer direct, right?

26:36At the direct, we see, hey, there's a thousand NPCs in Fable, and we all immediately go, but is it going to be just fucking nonsense, garbage, AI? And then they're like, no, they're all handcrafted. They're all personally written. They all have their own stories. And it's like, if that's true, when we get Fable and we get into that game and that's fucking awesome, fucking celebrate it for that and talk about that. And then inevitably in a few months when we're given a game from whatever giant publisher who did use AI to make the most generic bullshit here it is like i always joke around about the fucking trough of bullshit open world stuff like demonize that say that that sucks make a point to do that like that's what you got to do and what we got to where we have to walk on the lines we have to go for you're right and i think that that

27:17Tim Gettys:is the the glimmer of hope is that i i think through the hellscape that i just laid out in the beginning and then i think about the media that is going to rise to the top and you hope and I believe that it will be the handcrafted ones. I don't think, I know for a fact that AI cannot create the amount of art, the high quality art that games like Exhibition 33 are there, right? Like you cannot be just typing in a prompt and then create something that is special, that's handcrafted. People are going to resent AI slop even more than they already are, right? Especially when it's gonna be thrown down our faces, especially when I'm sure Amazon will one day make a ai movie or whatever like they're like well because the first ai movie in theaters and then we're all gonna be like fuck you like this is not what we want yeah so that is the hope there i think i just again with the nihilistic point of view that i don't genuinely feel in my heart of hearts but i think i'm feeling it more so today it's easy to days yeah it's easy to fall into that is just the oh no sure of course they own uh james bond they own all these franchises we don't have to support these franchises but they also own like the back end of the entire internet right like they like google back in the entire internet right now you're talking about like just stacking the deck right where tiktok gets bought up by these american folks or whatever and now epstein is like a blocked word on it it's like you know what i mean where people are getting tanked like exactly we don't know what truth is and even when there's truth to power and people are setting like you can't even you can't even organize sometimes right it's it's really tough and i'm my heart goes out to every single person that is laid off because that's 100 true the people who are laid off hearts go out to them yeah you know but for amazon failing at this and trying to find it meta failing at vr and trying to find it like i have no sympathy for the corporation nor do i mourn those losses and even if they have the ips i care about i don't mourn those losses i mourn the jobs i mourn the people or whatever but i also know that they are going to go out and make other games and they're going to make things outside of this banner and make things that are way more interesting you know what i mean i think about that all the time to use the movie analogy right like i have the reputation of i want to see movie theaters failed because i've said that before it's a boiled down statement but what i really mean is like no i i'm not gonna go watch fast and furious i'm not gonna go watch mission impossible i don't like i don't and i'm talking very much to the us as an in-review team or whatever right like that's just not a film i give a shit about like just explosions and whatever like i'm not an action movie guy but a great independent movie like i'm gonna want to go see when i lived in columbia like i went to ragtag cinema all the time like that would be a place i would go out and give my money and again i know that's hard as theaters go away but let's be honest cinemark isn't making room for the biggest independent films so it is that idea that i still think in the same way games like consume me or and roger are going to eke out and find their place and be two hour long experiences that we fucking love and are able to celebrate and somehow the top five of the kind of funny top 10 are independent wasn't that what it was or what was the it was all indie games right i see that in film and i see that in other art as well where if you want to come in and control the means of production and make the most bullshit mal you know fucking maltoast uh yeah fucking milk toast that's what we're like bland bullshit you know what i mean we're gonna appeal to the most people and the most gamers it's gonna fail it's not gonna matter and the cool shit's gonna be elsewhere you just have to look for it absolutely absolutely i will fight you though on i mean cinemark sure absolutely we can cut down on a few of the zootopia screenings but you know they got some of the indie movies there they got some indie movies there shout out to cinemark everybody you're an idiot what what what i said happy birthday oh well thank you thank you i appreciate that uh everybody we're going to continue to talk about a bunch of stuff including some censorship going on with dispatch over on nintendo switch but before we do that i want to remind you about the kind of funny membership on patreon.com how's episode four gonna open i can't wait to hear about this explain that do they yeah they do on kind of funny and also kind of funny games over on youtube to get our shows ad free and speaking of ads we tell you about our sponsors this episode is brought to you by rocket money do you know how much money mike was wasting on hidden subscriptions that he wasn't using well it turns out mike didn't know either until he started using rocket money rocket money is a personal finance app that helps find and cancel your unwanted subscriptions it monitors your spending and it helps lower your bills so you can grow your savings rocket money tracks your subscriptions and has the ability to cancel within the app with a few taps saving time and avoiding charges it automatically categorizes your transactions and tags them to reveal spending patterns and add context getting ready to buy the steam machine rocket money helps you save for big goals by setting budgets and getting personalized insights and regular reports.

35:49Tim Gettys:You're going to meet a lot of cool people and you're going to have a great time. As I always say about the kind of funny live events, if you are going to this, remember you are not alone. You are surrounded by kind of, I assure you, I assure you, everyone else in this sparsely populated comedy club is a kind of funny fan. Nobody is there because they heard, oh, Howard the duck. I have to watch it beforehand. You are surrounded by, you can turn to anybody and say, what are you playing? What do you love about Greg? Greg, what do you hate about Tam? You can have a conversation right there. That's easy.

36:18Tim Gettys:Professor White, super chat, says, we wearing our red wings and ripping heaters tonight. And Greg, I brought you a present. Would I be able to give it to you? Yeah, I think I don't know what the, I don't know much about the evening. I don't, 7.30 show time, I know. Yeah. I know we have a call time before then. I don't know how long we're there. I don't know if there's a show after ours. Yeah, that's. But I imagine we're going to meet and greet afterwards. Yeah, we'll figure it out. Yeah, we'll hang out with y 'all. uh and one more before we continue the show uh this is from kobe an art who says ah yes a company worth 2.6 trillion dollars needs to save money for ai have people um have people i know affected by this fuck amazon well let's continue talking about fucking this is a little psa dispatches visual censorship setting can't be removed on switch this from jim norman over at nintendo life ad hoc studios superhero narrative adventure dispatch made quite a splash when it arrived on pc and ps5 last year with its sweary humor and adult themes and yes spicy visuals it launches on switch one and two later this week but don't expect to see everything if you're playing solely on nintendo systems as noted in our review the visual censorship toggle which let you which lets you decide whether to see any rude visuals like nudity or did a grandmother write this some rude oh you got the sweary humor adult themes and yes spicy visuals uh like nudity and profane gestures in the pc and ps5 versions has been removed from both switch version releases the censorship setting is automatically turned on and there's no way to change that so what does this mean for the full experience on switch and switch 2 you will still get to see every scene in the games eight episodes but a black sensor bar will pop up to cover any spicier visuals by default the usual stuff genitals bare nipples gets covered obviously but we also noticed the odd middle finger getting the bar treatment too we reached out to ad hoc studios to ask why the setting has been removed and got the following response different platforms have different content criteria throw up the WNDs and submissions are evaluated individually for our switch release we worked with Nintendo to adapt certain elements so dispatch could be on their platform to be clear no scenes have been cut from the switch versions but the profanity censorship toggle remains so you can still hear swearing if you choose if you so choose however the most drastic edit we noticed was a particularly steamy scene in episode four oh yeah full of moans groans and swearing in the initial release, which now takes place with no dialogue or vocal audio whatsoever, even with profanity enabled.

39:12Tim Gettys:Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen censoring from Nintendo platforms, from the famous Mortal Kombat gore removal in the 90s, all the way to more modern examples like the Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore Switch release. Nintendo is no stranger to wanting things clean on its consoles, bar some notable exceptions like Cyberpunk 2077's detailed character customization naturally so that was not censored at all um with cyberpunk 2077 greg what's your take on this what the fuck you know what i mean it's oh god like ah what are we fucking talking about why why like it's like uh there's i guess here's the problem the problem just comes down to consistency if it was they're blocking the old vulvas and penises on cyberpunk okay yeah you're weird nintendo and that's a weird thing to make a decision for for all your content but for it to be oh that's fine but this isn't and that's okay but that's not like what are we talking about what the fuck is going on and nintendo has so many of the weird little like fucking undressed people games dude i was looking at that last night there's the feet stuff and everything it's weird yeah it's crazy that they just have games that are literally entitled hentai yeah Of course, it doesn't have hentai in it.

40:25Tim Gettys:That's like a little swerve right there. But still, that's wild that they have probably some of the most lax eShop uploads. Hentai Session for Nintendo Switch. It's nuts. Yeah, it's nuts that they do that. And then, yeah, of course, here you can't. Welcome to Hentai Session. We can't put up a middle finger. Hentai Session, a relaxing puzzle experience full of color, style, and charm. Take your time to assemble vivid illustrations featuring elegant and expressive characters. 40:57Tim Gettys:Yeah. That I imagine is AI. Yes, it is. Yeah. There's a lot of AI. Of course. Yeah. This is just so stupid. Yeah. I expected when I saw that this was coming to switch, I was like, there's going to be some fuckery. There's going to be some type of fuckery here. But the fact that we're going as far to like, actually like, like put up the black bar with the middle finger is wild. Yeah. That's a, that's a wild Nintendo decision. That's. Yeah. I don't know, man. Like, you know what I mean? Like, I get it. WNDs but it's just like aren't we beyond this to a degree Nintendo don't you understand that the Switch 2 isn't just for kids what kid is picking up fucking Dispatch I would have played Dispatch when I was a kid but I was a cool kid you know what I mean look how cool you are now it's a dumb decision it's a stupid one I can get it again if you did it for everything but it's like oh this high profile game that has sex in it and middle fingers and stuff I guess we have to make sure we protect the children And it is quite like, as Barnell puts in the chat, it is a rated M video game.

41:57Also, and that's the thing. It's like, if you didn't rate, like, what's the point of the ratings? And like, if I'm a parent and I buy dispatch for my kid and I see they block this all out, I go, great. That means all M rated games, this kind of shit's blocked out. And then I buy something else and it's not blocked out.

42:10Tim Gettys:The only thing that I can think Nintendo, the reason they did this is because this game is cartoony. And that's maybe the only reasoning that they're like, hey, this is a cartoony thing. this is this is already like the number two i saw like before it even came out it's like number two on the entirety of like the switch like uh like sales or whatever in total like even though it's a pre-order so it's like i could see them being like oh it's a cartoony thing it's superheroes maybe kids are gonna buy this but even then fucking who gets it's ready but again yeah video game yeah why do we have the the rating sport to begin with there's parental controls you can make sure that the kid doesn't buy rated m video games that's that's what it's made for Yeah, and it's also weird of this being high profile, but also Cyberpunk and Witcher are also very high profile, neither with censorship.

42:56So it's like, do you have to be a really big established studio with better connections to Nintendo to not get censored? Yeah, exactly. Shitty precedent. Not going to push back, yeah.

43:07Tim Gettys:Motorworld Hype Super Chatson says, you would think Nintendo would have learned their lesson after Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Right, a lifetime ago. A lifetime ago. Whatever. and also the Tokyo Mirage Sessions thing was out of bounds during the song feel where Tsubasa is performing was modified for the western release in the western release the cleavage was reduced and the breast line was digitally removed and the V-lines around our waist were airbrushed out not the cum gutters we're gonna airbrush those out? what fucking society we are living in you know what I mean? I believe also chat let me know if I'm speaking out of school but for the dispatch like artwork of them at like the pool or whatever, like the deluxe edition, they also censored some of the cleavage out of that as well.

43:49Tim Gettys:So this is, yeah, that thing. That was a reason why I was like, what am I going to goon to? You know what I mean? I got to be gooning over here. I got to go on google.com. Gooning over here. Goon goon. Goon goon. Let it be. Let the titties be. Let the middle fingers be. Let the cocks be. You know what I mean? In fact. That's woke. Show me Mario's cock. It's time. You know what I mean? Let's just see it. Uncut or not. We've already seen his feet. That's enough. Remember his nipples too, man. Story number four. Ubisoft unions call on workers' strike in February. Enough is enough. It's from Levi Winslow over at GameSpot.

44:27Tim Gettys:Ubisoft workers in France are summoning their collective power to protest the latest restructuring and cost-cutting decisions at the mega publisher, with five unions calling for a massive international strike in early February. According to a joint statement on Blue Sky and reported by game developer five ubisoft unions stjv solidaires informatica cgt cfe cgc barrett hell brogers having a stroke something's going wrong ecoleak jeep i apologize everybody are proposing that all ubisoft employees stop working from february 10th through the 12th to combat a quote ceo who doesn't even dare talking to employees anymore this work stop dream just be siloed just be siloed i take over the conference room the walls that we put up around my desk when i was working on game of the year we can put that around your dad uh this work stoppage is in response to ubisoft's return to office mandates studio closures, and game cancellations in the wake of its major restructuring, workforce reduction suggestions, and general employee disrespect.

45:42Tim Gettys:But we are not fooled. Rather than taking responsibility for layoff, they prefer to push us out by making our working conditions unbearable. The statement reads, It's outrageous. Our colleagues carry on, hold fast, endure, out of solidarity, out of love for the industry, and out of passion. But enough is enough. It is because we love Ubisoft that this situation revolts us. The unions cited how the latest decisions, particularly the rupture conventionale collective of voluntary mutual termination agreement, that could see upwards of 200 French developers lose their jobs, were news they learned at the same time as everyone else.

46:29Tim Gettys:noting the dismissive way with which Ubisoft management has disregarded or ignored its workers, creativity and dignity. The unions said they felt compelled into stringent action. It's time for our management to understand that they cannot do whatever they want, whether with public money or with the work of hundreds of people. The statement continues. without us ubisoft would never have conquered and transferred video games as it has done we are history we are ubisoft this comes just two days after a report found that anger and despair reign supreme at the company with all of the news that is coming to light following the massive restructuring greg yes is a time that they strike yeah of course yes everybody's getting treated like shit at ubisoft i mean everyone's getting treated like shit every big publisher but yes i you know we're always very pro unionizing we're always very pro uh workers rights we're always very pro developers being treated right especially when it seems like the upper brass of every major publisher is being treated very very well uh so yeah i think the time to their point has come maybe even past and that's the biggest concern i have is that as ubisoft is closing things down and shutting down games and laying it's like i feel like they are setting themselves into this autopilot sleep until they get acquired or whatever the fucking next big thing is so i don't know how much this is able to rattle the cages of the guimol family because i know it doesn't seem like they're in this anymore for the long haul but who the fuck really does know what's going on over there but ubisoft seems on shakier ground than ever so it's you got to make your move when you make your move but it would have been awesome to see this move happen a while back when it seemed like there was more of a firm ground for ubisoft and its employees yeah i mean collective action is always great i'm glad that they're coming together and they're making their voices heard but yeah i think you're right like they're checked out it feels like ubisoft is especially when the when you break down the five pillars of what their studios are it's like oh you're trying to sell these you're trying to break these off into pieces you're trying to have here's the fucking splinter cell division well i mean not the splinter cell i guess the division the guy the splinter cell guy the shooter division right you have the just dance division essentially right So, yeah, they're fucking ready to go.

48:49Tim Gettys:Yeah, so I hope that they're able to be heard and things are able to change, but it seems like they want pretty much as many people as possible to lead this company. Because they're trying to just cut costs without having to technically fire people by bringing them back into the office and everything five days a week. The Splinter Cell Division is a broom closet. That's great. That's great, kid. A little bit more Ubisoft news. It's good news, though, right? A week from its company reshuffle, Ubisoft has announced a Just Dance Plus price increases from Tom Phillips over at IGN. Ubisoft's next change following last week's major company reorganization will be a price increase to its Just Dance Plus service.

49:32Tim Gettys:As Ubisoft tightens its belt across the company, its Just Dance Plus streaming service will be more expensive whether you purchase access via a one-month pass, three-month pass, or a 12-month pass. In a blog post to fans of its veteran music franchise, Ubisoft says it has re-examined the cost of running Just Dance Plus over the last few months and come to the decision that the price rises were necessary to ensure it remains, quote, meaningful and sustainable for players. As a result, a one-month pass will increase in price from$399 to$599, while a three-month pass will rise from$999 to$1299. Finally, a year-long pass will go up from$29.99 up from$25.99.

50:24Tim Gettys:These changes will be applied from April onwards. Quote, Just Dance Plus is built around music, and that comes with some important truths Ubisoft wrote. every song available in the service relies on licensing agreements that evolve over time and these conditions directly affect what we can keep renew or add to the catalog taking this into account we've had to make a few adjustments to ensure the service can keep growing in the long run i just want to read this really quick upcoming content coming to just dance plus includes songs from the franchises 2023 and 2024 editions such as toxic by britney spears driver's license by Olivia Rarigo and Walking Out Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves.

51:07Tim Gettys:Nice. A new Wonder Tales pack inspired by the Melogia Realms Danceverse will arrive this spring. Another new track, 360 by Charli XCX will arrive later this year. A two-year-old song. I did not know what Just Dance Plus was. I just assumed it was all the games in one. Yeah. But no, it's not. It is them piecemeal taking the old stuff and then putting it into this thing that you then have to spend what fucking$30 a year on it's just like I guess sure bizarre that's a bizarre concept I didn't realize I thought those are just all the games in one no you'd wish that yeah you fucking wish another subscription service to get you the things to go dance for I would love to know what we're looking at in the Just Dance audience like how big it is how many people are actively playing Just Dance yeah and stuff like that I mean Ubisoft's keeping it around in creative house whatever you know i mean good for them i know i know it sells this isn't me saying there's nobody playing it i mean how many people are actually playing it it's clearly success it's clearly a money maker for them and yeah these incremental increases right whether it be a dollar or five dollars they think can do it and will the audience respond to that do they care will they notice what are they doing it's just crazy i'm just like that is a subset of gamers i just don't have eyes on and wouldn't know anything about yeah in terms of who's doing whatever and they keep on expanding it so it's like how many people are playing on their like LG TV, right?

52:29I just noticed my LG TV had it just forcibly downloaded on there. And I was like, that's fucking weird. Yeah, against my, it was like the YouTube album all over again. I was like, why the fuck is this on my TV? I didn't realize it was on TVs like that.

52:44Tim Gettys:Yeah, no, it's super interesting. But yeah, I mean, heads up for all the Just Dance players and maybe something to look forward to, to Ubisoft Plus, if that service still exists. I'm sure that's... I'm going to try to hit, I'm going to try to get Matt Piscitell on the line. I want to know about Just Dance. Yeah, I love that. I'm working on it. Okay. We'll jump over story number six while we try to do that. Silent Hill 2 Remake Studio teases something with a creepy website. This is from Eddie Macu over at GameSpot. Polish developer Bloober is teasing some kind of new announcement with a creepy website.

53:14Tim Gettys:The teaser website at, and I'm not even going to try to read this website because it is just fucking gibberish. And I'm sure you can decode it, but it is just pure gibberish and it's very long. includes a countdown clock ticking to February 14th, at which time the announcement will be presumably made. The teaser website doesn't give much away, but it states, quote, some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait. The teaser website was first discovered in 2025, at which time Bluebird Team said, dare to peek into the darkness. Bluebird Team has multiple games in the works, including Project M for Switch 2 and a Silent Hill remake that's in development with Konami.

53:54Tim Gettys:In 2024, the developers said it was doing something, it was done making shitty games. I forgot about that quote. That was a great quote. Piorder Bibino told Nintendo Insider that Project M will introduce a bold twist and one that, quote, no horror game has ever explored before. This is a vision that could only exist on Nintendo hardware, he said, adding that fans of Resident Evil and Silent Hill will be right at home. It's rumored that there will be a Nintendo Direct and State of Play event in February, but whether or not bloopers reveal the game is unknown. I got it. Project M. M. Mario. A game that can only be on the Nintendo platform.

54:38A Mario horror game. But it's Luigi's Mansion. Project M. Mansion M. Oh. But Mario's the one in the walls, and he's hunting Luigi. Mario is dead. Now you got to catch his soul.

54:51Tim Gettys:Finally. Bring him back. Interesting. I'm so interested in Project M because first of all, they're doing a countdown. So if you would think that Project M would be connected to some type of Nintendo Direct, but usually you don't do countdowns leading up to an Nintendo Direct. Usually it's just there. Well, my thought on this would be you're not getting a countdown to the Nintendo Direct. If that's, you're right on the money. And I think that Nintendo usually pretty notorious on not wanting people doing their own fucking thing. Yeah. If this was Nintendo Direct related, I think you get the cinematic project M trailer at the direct.

55:22And then it's like, go to the website for more details. You go to the website and the countdown is five days till a gameplay review. Yeah. And it's like, Hey, now we're going to go walk you through what the big thing is here. Whatever.

55:31Tim Gettys:Uh, are you excited for what bloopers got up their sleeve? I am. Yeah. You know, we like blooper here. You know, I like them taking the swings. I like them taking the chances. I like the horror stuff. They're out there doing it. Uh, so yeah, to see what they are doing and what they can do only on the Nintendo switch. That's exciting. What's up there. I'm at Piscatella. I've DM'd him. I'm waiting for it. I said, you around? Not in a meeting? You up? I want to know how popular Just Dance is. You got any vision on that? Huh, tough guy? Well, if Matt were able to join, that'd be really big news. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I need to know about, where would I go?

56:03You'd go to our last news story, the We News Channel, where we run you through all the tiny news you need to know about.

56:11Tim Gettys:Skiddy bum bum bum. We News time, everybody. New upcoming, hashtag deadbydaylight collab, Bellatro featuring new head for the unknown, available February 20th. I didn't put a link here. I should have put a link here. Barrett, whenever you get a chance, if you can look that up, it is fucking horrifying. The Bellatro character is nuts. I can't believe they're doing it, but I'm very happy. Good for them. Great. As we figure that out, I'm going to keep on reading. Bluey, the incredibly popular animated TV show, is crossing over with Minecraft as part of the upcoming Bluey DLC, bluey's house arriving on the minecraft marketplace on february 5th the dlc is developed by uh jaigarbav in partnership with bbc studios and ludo studios that's very nice and that's exciting yeah has ben tried minecraft yeah we did it a long time ago him and me jumped in co-op and he liked it fine but not enough that he's wanted to go back to this kid i mean one day he smashed with their pills and i'm sorry barrett i need your help and it's not a bit the donkey kong they just updated he was playing that the other day too whichever one returns hd or whatever yeah i don't know i wasn't there was when he's been home sick the last two days so jen let him play it that one and then tim sent when she sent it to him he sent the sticker brush symphony that sound is that whatever one has sticker bush he's such a thing i know i ain't fucking dude look how fucking horrifying you think ben star is voicing him no hope so that'd be great god that is horrifying like if you hear a handsome voice come out of this it makes it less scary he's got range though he can do he can do a shriek he can do a he can do an unsexy shriek I don't know if it's possible.

58:00Tim Gettys:Scott Pilgrim EX launches March 3rd on Xbox, PlayStation 4 and 5, Switch, and PC. We got a new trailer that shows off Matthew Patel and Robot 01. What is Robot 01? I've read these entire books. Robot 01, I think, might have been a newer character from the Netflix adaptation, which was a really smart, like at first they tried to sell it as like, oh it's us retelling scott pilgrim and then it's not actually that spoilers it's like uh essentially a sequel series that i think is a really great uh really oh yeah and it's a fantastic kind of look back and critique of like the i think problems of uh the original scott pilgrim and like what they were going through and like actually breaking that all down so i'm pretty sure what robot 01 was i forget who but i forget if patel made robot 01 or what but oh wow okay Well, that gets me where I should have watched that show is fucking fantastic.

58:57Yeah.

58:57Tim Gettys:Cause I was, I was actually kind of annoyed that they were doing like the, Oh, here, the whole cast is back. I was like, okay, like whatever, I guess, but we're just doing it again. But that's cool. I didn't know that. Yeah. That's like full on sequel. That's neat. Uh, February's PlayStation plus games have been revealed. That's undisputed sub Nautica below zero. Ultros and Ace Combat seven. If you're trying to get excited for Ace Combat eight, perfect time. Never been a better time. also check out Ultros if you're in the mood for a neat weird artistic metroidvania oh okay well shout out there and that is the end of we news everybody super chats before we sign off Zach lives super chats and says happy belated birthday Roger listen to bunny is a rider by Caroline Polachek yesterday got goosebumps and now going through her entire discography nice the tastemaker still I love it uh golden spider 666 super chat says the hope imo is that when ai slop like ai movies comes out it'll be so bad that it won't sell and then that will force companies to realize that people want creative succeeding industry you have to support that i completely agree correct i completely agree uh kevin super chats and said kevin no different kevin kevin and nick are not watching this kevin might be isn't kevin no he's not enough every once in a while he'll check in have fun i keep telling to rest kevin tried to come in today yeah you don't worry about it barricade i was like we got it covered you're good you rest this i'm glad you feel like you you could don't stay home today we love you feel better kev have fun at the live in review tonight my flights my flights kept getting canceled so i won't be able to make it will you guys be recording it yes we will just for you kevin uh but that will go up next week uh we're so sorry you can't make it i know everything is fucked when it comes to flights but just as a heads up remember can't get the one yeah i don't a lesson.

Like, you say my flights keep getting canceled, and it sounds like you were trying to get in earlier than today because today would have been cutting it close, probably. So, I really do feel like you could easily say on Sunday when the flight got canceled, shit, better get in the car and drive. Power through the storm. Get on the other side and get over here. Because where are you coming from, Kev, huh? New York? I doubt it. Alright, so it couldn't have been that bad. 1:01:30Tim Gettys:Greg almost died trying to go to San Francisco I did so if he almost died you can almost die don't you want to be like me kids Sam Sam Hezaretz Greg and team apologies this isn't gaming related and not sure if mentioned but Bruce Springsteen was just released an anti-ice protest song written and released in three days. Hard hitting. Love to all. That was not mentioned. I did not know that. I don't follow the boss that close. No, I don't follow the boss. Did you watch this movie? No, I don't think anyone did. I heard it was really bad. No one saw that movie. Fucking no one saw that movie. Good for the boss.

1:02:03Tim Gettys:Shout out to the boss, though. Everybody looked at that trailer and was like, why is Jeremy Allen wiping? Well, no, he's going to be Jabba the Hutt's son now, so it's going to be good. Sergio McDonald. Super chat says, Fallout just dropped a new 76 ad promoting free-to-play week and is also running a sale on steam but don't think we're getting those remasters anytime then what's the fucking countdown to thought 76 something amazon related and nothing xbox specific and what that aaron lime super chaslin says according to grub a couple days ago a state of play showcase whatever should be the week after next any predictions for a sony show give one greg oh shit that makes a lot of sense remember there's always a goddamn state of play when i'm at dice so of course there'll be a state of play when i'm at fucking dice uh predictions uh you want what one one prediction is one uh legends release date ma 'am ghost yote legends release date is legends officially announced or we just assume it's officially announced okay cool what i do want to call out while barrett thinks is the protest strong song is streets of Minneapolis, which of course he had a song called streets of Philadelphia.

1:03:14Right. So did he just change the words? I hate that shit. Elton John should have written a new song for princess die. When she died, I'm saying it. All right. I'm sorry. I know. I know it's a hot take. I've been sitting on it since I was six years old or seven years old when it happened. All right. Elton John fucking hat phoned it in. And I know he was sad because his friend died, but you're Elton fucking John sit down to the piano and fucking create something. Brave. don't tell him i feel like it's too early for wolverine release date but oh you think so i don't i don't know february like that early in the year so i don't know that feels like a summer we announced it the the date in summer time coming out sometime in the fall i think we did the god

1:04:32Tim Gettys:I gotta know. I gotta know about it. I got to know what's going on here with the fucking goddamn boss. My first thought was like, man, he's really checked out with this episode. He's ready for this. I'm so checked in. You know what I mean? Like, it's the opposite. I'm not checked out. I need to know. Everybody, that has been kind of funny at Games Daily. Well, Greg continues to listen to the song. Is it the same song? I can't tell. I don't know the streets of Philadelphia. I don't know if that's the name of the song. So, Bruce, you get a pass, I think, from Greg. You get a pass, everybody. You're not fucking half-assed like Elton John.
