For the 256 gigabyte model, it's going to be$1 ,000 sorry let me say it again it's not a thousand dollars it's a thousand and fifty nine dollars u.s dollars for the steam frame 256 gigabyte for the one terabyte is going to be a thousand two hundred and ninety nine u.s dollars um half-life alex can be included with this thing uh how to pre-order it's going it's a very similar pre-order system as the controller um or sorry as the steam machine not the controller they found that the reservation system uh is helpful in limiting resellers and improving the purchase experience folks can sign up for the model they'd like to purchase between september 14th and 17th at 10 a.m pacific time when signups close they'll do a one-time randomization to determine reservation and waitlist order based on the results of that randomization uh customers receive an email later on the 17th indicating they are on the reservation list or waitlist um i got i don't have a review roundup because again the embargo went up at 10 am the same time this show goes live i do have the ign oh that's a video review i can give you a quick little one that i found from jacob ridley over at pcgamer.com uh has a write-up over on the steam frame and says the pros are easy to use excellent tracking top-notch wireless streaming steam os comfortable over long periods and it's upgradable and the cons are higher price than we i'd like then we'd all like quest 3 is a lot cheaper the pass-through that you sort of see everything through is monochrome so it's not like actually in color and then the the displays aren't anything special yeah i have the jacqueline thomas review from ig and ig gave it a 7 out of 10 they say the steam frame is a fascinating vr headset in my time with it i spent almost an equal amount of time playing traditional non-vr games as i have vr games in a lot of ways it's become a replacement for my gaming monitor one i can take around the house with me but at 1059 it's going to be a hard sell for anyone who just wants a good vr headset and doesn't mind shackling themselves to meta's platform regardless i have a hard time imagining a vr headset that is better for pc gaming in 2026 especially if you have a powerful pc ready to go already that's quite the asking price man so it's a lot of money vr is expensive vr is tough because it's such a niche scope as far as what you can do like i know you can be you can use it as a monitor but i don't know how many people are asking for that you know i mean i think people are pretty happy using monitors that they have at their desk right or playing on their tv and stuff like that and so then we start talking about the vr experiences and half-life alex like the fact that they're including with that really cool half-life alex is probably one of the best vr games but i don't think you have that many killer apps for vr currently and it doesn't feel like you have new ones coming out um all the time yeah jacob ridley uh from pc gamer goes on to say um you should buy this if you want uh you want like a quick and easy setup it's easy to set up on the steam frame thanks to excellent inside out tracking once it's done you won't have to keep redoing the same thing every time you want to play.

And then do not buy if you want a big visual upgrade over the MetaQuest 3. The Steam frame has a lot of benefits over the Quest 3, but it's pretty closely matched for image quality.
