Key claims
- Undead Labs became an independent, employee-owned studio after leaving Xbox, but “a significant number” of employees were laid off; some worked on State of Decay 3.
- Independence may reduce “Xbox baggage,” but the team must right-size, manage runway, and compete in survival-crafting’s crowded space.
- Xbox is preparing “Mythic Achievements” to track full-achievement completion and display a “Mythic Count” on profiles.
Notable examples
- Survival-crafting comparisons: Valheim, Subnautica, Shrouded, Enshrouded, Grounded, Dune Awakening, RuneScape Dragonwilds.
- Xbox/industry context: Double Fine and Compulsion previously split from Xbox with layoffs.

2:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Today's gaming news stories include Undead Labs makes significant layoffs, Xbox has its own platinum trophy, and a new Silent Hill movie may be in the works. Well, all this and more because this is Kind of Funny Games Daily.
3:04Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yo, what's up? Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily from the lab. The lab. The lab. For Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026. I'm your host, Blessing at AOA Jr. Joining me is the legend, Greg Miller. Hello, Blessing. How are you? I'm doing well, Greg. How are you doing? Good. I know that you are a ravenous Gregway fan. You listen to them just constantly nonstop. You're on top of it. Of course. I know you've also been busy. That's why I sub. Yeah, exactly. I know you've been busy. I need you to know that you are the reason Poe got birthday gifts on Monday. No. Yep, I did it because of you, and Poe was not happy.
3:38He said, we're doing gifts now? We're doing gifts for birthdays? and I said, well, Blessing guilted me on Games Daily, so I had to, and he goes, well, thanks for nothing, Blessing.
3:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Now I got to give him gifts. I remember nothing in the conversation. You're just a giver. You're just a giver, Bless. Which is funny because I feel like a lot of the time I'm not a giver when it comes to my friends' birthdays. We got to get on the same page. Yeah. You're looking at me talking, and I'm looking at you talking. It happens every time. Look at the goddamn camera. Look at each other. What are we doing? It's because we're in the lab, because Studio A, as I'm calling it now. We are getting ready for Top 100. We're getting ready for Top 100. That means breaking everything we already have.
4:12Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Sometimes you make some improvements to certain things, and then sometimes things break, and then you have to figure that out, and we'll figure that out over the day. Top men. Shout out to Kevin and Barrett and everybody on the tech side for figuring that out. But we are in the lab for that reason, and I think we just go back and forth. So some of it here? Some of it there. Some of it here? Some of it there. All right. I feel like it's more natural when we're here, but it's more professional when we're here. But fuck being professional. It's kind of funny. Yeah. I was in the same... I was out there doing the Silent Hill review the other day, and Madeline Stanley was calling in.
4:40And then I had Raj, who doesn't host often, lead host. And then Kurt, who had never been on her stuff before. And Kurt was like, I feel like I should turn around and look at the wall. And then Roger started doing it. And I was like, I'm in the middle of a show. I'm not going to correct them.
4:51Blessing Adeoye Jr.:See, that's what I did. I think you're one of us being in the studio. I tried to do it. Yeah, it doesn't work. Yeah, but you just need commitment from everybody. And also, it's just easier for us to look directly at the person that we're talking to. I know. That's how human beings work. I like looking at the audience's eyes. Yeah. What are you wearing right now, Blaster Goblin? Blaster Goblin, where are you wearing? Let us know. I accidentally closed all the chats, so I don't know who's in chat. Oh, okay. I was like, I don't see Blaster Goblin's name. I talked to Blaster Goblin in today's Greg way, which you can find soon.
5:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I was like, I see Crush Lemons. I see other names. I know Loyal Freak. Greg? Yeah. Are you ready to talk about some video game news? I'm very ready to talk about some video game news that I feel like we almost predicted yesterday. As if there's a layoff handbook. Remember, if you're watching live, you can be a part of the show by super chatting in over on YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games. We couldn't do this without our producers over on Patreon.com slash kindoffunny. So thank you to Omega Buster, Delaney, the Psalm Twining, and Michael Pezzavento. For now, let's begin with what is, and forever will be, the Roper Report.
5:52It's time for some news. We have six stories today. A baker's dozen.
5:59Blessing Adeoye Jr.:A lot of people in chat are saying that they're wearing khakis. Wow. Great bit. Wait, oh, because are we just doing the State Farm thing? There's the State Farm thing. Okay, okay, okay. Can you believe Jake from State Farm became that? Black? Well, yeah, that for sure. But I mean, just in general, that bit has taken – I feel like we talk about the death of monoculture. Yeah. And Jake from State Farm is one of those last things where it was a commercial that people liked, and then he became black. He became – they were like, oh, we've got to make this an actual personality. We're going to hire essentially an influencer now to be Jake from State Farm.
6:32He's always hanging out with Barb Dunkelman.
6:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:He is hanging out with Barb Dunkelman. They do some show or something together. I see him everywhere. He's just in random places. Good for him. He's in 2K. He isn't in 2K. What happened to, what's her name from Progressive? Flo. Flo. Flo is still, last I heard, still the highest paid commercial actress. Really? And I think because of that, that's why you see her used sparingly. Because she still is in Progressive, but they're always introducing new Progressive people. They're trying. And then Flo will pop up at the very end. Yeah. Like, what are you doing? Like, oh, yeah, we could only afford Flo for one day.
7:06What do you think she – did she do anything outside of progressive commercials? Not anymore.
7:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:She's chilling. If you're making that much money, you know what I mean? I feel like if I was Flo, I'd figure out a way to become the next, like, Kim Kardashian in the media empire way, not in, like, the – I don't know, the controversial ways. But, like, I would try to – I don't know. I'll create so many shows on YouTube. I'll go to every red carpet. But, see, that's the thing. You wouldn't be able to get rid of me. Yeah, you're talking about it from, you know, different hunger leveling. excitement level and what you want to do with your talents. Whereas Flo, I think, you know, seemed like Flo was happy being an actress and then she found this thing and then I'm sure she still does stuff.
7:40I'll get to the bottom of Flo.
7:42Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, please. Look up Flo while we talk about story number one. Undead Labs makes significant layoffs after splitting from Xbox. Well, maybe I shouldn't be looking up Flo while we're talking about it. Let's wait until story number two. Stephanie Courtney is her name apparently. Okay. She's been in a bunch of stuff. And they landed on Flo. Well, you know, they steal that. Yeah. Flo's my mom's name. Oh my god! She's in Blaze and the Monster Machines as Tilly, the singer. See, now... We know Nolan North. Does Nolan North know Flo from Progressive? Has he ever actually met her, you think? Now I take back what I said earlier, because I think the problem with Flo is that if I'm watching a movie, if I'm watching The Odyssey...
8:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. It's going to be pulled out of Flo from Progressive. If Flo pops up as Calypso, I'm not going to be like, that's Calypso. I'll be like, that's Flo. And that's the reason I think you really do see it be that, like, you know, a lot of stuff here looks like she's doing. She's not on. I guess she was on the Goldbergs for 31 episodes. That's a lot. But I don't know. I feel like, yeah, to your point, that's why she's just doing her thing. Yeah. She's doing pottery at home. I don't know what Flo's actually doing. Good for her. Let's get Flo on the show. Let's get Flo on the show. And also, let's get back to some sad news.
8:47Blessing Adeoye Jr.:All right. Sad news. I'm reading from Chris Kerr at Game Developer. Standard K studio Undead Labs has successfully divested from Xbox, but the separation has come at a cost. Writing on LinkedIn, the company confirmed it is becoming an independent employee-owned studio. It also announced that it is laying off a significant number of employees. Although it didn't specify how many roles had been cut, the studio confirmed some of those impacted worked on State of Decay 3. Quote, it's difficult to reach this moment knowing that not everyone who helped us get here gets to make the rest of the journey with us, reads the statement.
9:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:They are exceptionally talented developers who have poured years into the State of Decay franchise, solving hard problems, looking after one another, and helping shape both this game and this studio. Their work remains part of Undead Labs and part of State of Decay 3, regardless of where their careers take them next. There have been far too many announcements like this across the industry, and we hate adding to that list. These are people we'd hire again in a heartbeat, and we hope this industry takes notice." End quote. Microsoft said Undead Labs regained its independence under similar terms to Double Fine and Compulsion, which split from Xbox earlier this year with their IP, back catalogs, and runway funding.
10:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Greg. Yes. Of course, this is a follow-up story to what we talked about for multiple hours yesterday on our jam-packed episode of KFGD, coming off of the Xbox news of layoffs, reorganization, and the ongoing thing of studio divestors, these studios going independent and being on their own, and the results of that. Double Fine had a similar thing go on about a month ago now when they went independent, had to do layoffs. Now we're experiencing the same thing with Undead Labs. Sure. What are your thoughts? I mean, sadly predictable. You know, this is what we talked about yesterday on multiple fronts.
10:32But I think even when we talked about Undead Labs, we talked about, well, what does that mean? You leave Microsoft. You leave that financial backing. And whatever you did to staff up when you had all this money, and not all this money, but a larger budget, you would assume, and guaranteed health care and yada, yada, yada. When you lose that and you go independent again, yes, there's excitement. You own your own destiny, right? But then there is this, okay, well, now what happens? What is the brass tacks of it? You know, over here immediately in the chat, I see Solithea say, did Compulsion do layoffs?
11:05I don't think they did, and it's important to remember that Compulsion, of course, a Canadian studio, a Quebecois studio, if I do remember correctly, in Montreal, where, of course, there are a gajillion tax credits and you have universal healthcare and you don't need to worry about that shit the way you do in America, which, of course, where Undead Labs is based. So it's a little apples and oranges in terms of how that gets into the actual real dollars and cents of running a studio. And so it's heartbreaking that this is the outcome. Again, I hate being here and be like, oh, man, we lost our arm in that explosion, but at least we're alive.
11:38Like, that's how you really do feel as you look at the other, you flip this and look at Ninja Theory, right? Where it is like, yo, we had two deals fall through on this. We're going to start looking into closing them, right? And it's a conversation we had yesterday of like, okay, well, I think Xbox, understandably, when they bought them, changed their DNA. And I do think put them on a path that would have benefited the old Xbox and not the current Ninja Theory and the current video game market in terms of what they're making in this third Senua game. And so I think you look at that, you go, well, the team's too big.
12:10that's a game that isn't going to be successful, X, Y, and Z, that's a harder thing to sell. Whereas for Undead Labs, just getting out on their own, cool, but here we go.
12:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, you got to adjust what your studio structure is to account for what your output is and what the identity of the studio is, right? With them, it is State of Decay. All right, what is State of Decay 3? What's the scope of State of Decay 3? And how can we adjust the studio size and our roles in order to be able to be a profitable company coming off of State of Decay 3 and what we think that's going to do. And like you mentioned, it is the thing of, all right, our arm's gone, but at least we're still alive. And it sucks, and it's very sad, and we talk about these layoffs constantly. But I'm so curious to see where we go from here as Undead Labs.
12:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Once we get to State of Decay 3, do you continue to be in the State of Decay studio? Is State of Decay going to do what they need it to do? Absolutely the fuck not. No? I hope so. I love State of Decay. State of Decay 1 was so much fun, so powerful. I put so many hours into that. And State of Decay 2 was way too much like State of Decay 1. And now State of Decay 3 is this game that feels like it has been gestating forever. And I don't even know what that game is. I don't even know necessarily what I want out of a State of Decay 3. And I just think that by the time we get out that door, I just don't know what that game will actually look like.
13:39And I guess the one silver lining to this of, like, will it be what they need it to be? Maybe. You're an independent studio. Maybe, like, if you got out and you don't owe debt to Xbox or anything like that or Microsoft, maybe it can come out and be a solid game that people really enjoy and doesn't blow up and become the biggest thing in the world and be enough of a success for you. I guess I'm...
14:01Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You're thinking of like, could State of Decay be what Xbox needed to be, which the answer is never. Yeah, exactly. How many years has it been since State of Decay 3 or 2? 2? That was 20, I'll guess, 2018 is my guess. State of Decay 2, 2018. Yeah. I hope for the best. I will be weighted with that. And I say, will it do what they need it to do? I say no, but I say that as somebody who's, when that trailer drops, when that announcement goes, when there's a preview event, when the review codes come, I'm on it. Like, I want to play that game. I want to see what they got. I just worry about the tumultuous development this has had.
14:37Blessing Adeoye Jr.:State of Decay 3 strikes me, and you can correct me if I'm wrong because you've played State of Decay 2, strikes me as a game that's going to speak to a very specific community, and that community is not going to be large. It's going to be a community that is going to rock with it, fuck with it, and love that sort of game, but I don't see it breaking out into, mainstream might be too big of a word, but even broader success. I don't see it being a thing of, oh, everybody stop what you're doing. State of Decay 3 is out. But I see it being a, oh, State of Decay fans. State of Decay fans, yeah. Yeah, let's get into this.
15:06Again, hopefully without the Xbox baggage and a different story behind them now being independent, maybe it gets a look in a different direction of what people want out of it. And again, where are we at right now with multiplayer zombie games? It isn't a run-and-gun shooter. It is more playing with your friends and trying to survive and going and scavenging and yet.
15:28Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Well, I want to adjust something because Herbie in chat says I disagree less. They're talking about it's a genre that sells big talking about survival. Even Snow Mike Mike is in chat saying survival crafting games are huge. Come in here and talk about it then, Mike. Yeah. Are we talking with a dated perspective of what State of Decay does? Like in 2026 are we in an environment where... Do they have the stuff to break out in the survival crafting realm? Yeah. That's my thing where it's just like I think State of Decay 2 was far too safe compared to State of Decay 1 to the point that I thought State of Decay 1 resonated.
16:00I thought this was special. Me and McCaffrey played it all the time. State of Decay 2 I did like a weekend with. I was like, ah, it's just more State of Decay 1. So now, years later, are they reinventing that or are they playing it safe again and where are we going with it?
16:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. Mike, if you're in the office, come and let us know. He's not. He would have busted through the wall like the Kool-Aid man. He's probably out buying chai's right now. Yeah, because I don't want to count it out. I think I am thinking of what State of Decay 2 came out and did. But yeah, survival crafting games are huge right now. There is something there, but I also think it's a very crowded space. You know, we're talking about Enshrouted, you know, winning over Nick Scarpino and Kevin Coelho. We're talking about RuneScape Dragonwild coming out right now. We're talking about games like Grounded and Dune Awakening.
16:42Blessing Adeoye Jr.:That's kind of survival MMO, but you get what I'm talking about as far as those games that you live in and that genre. Subnautica, Valheim, which just got a 10 out of 10 from IGN. there are so many of those types of games and so even with that argument i think of the crowded nature of it but i'm hoping for the game i want it to be popular i want it to be big because i want the studio to continue to live and do amazing work yeah mitch cv's first time chat in the twitch says valheim and shrouded and runescape dragon wilds are all survival and just released 1.0 again the question was do i think it can do what it needs to do my answer is no not because i don't want to play this game not because i don't love state of decay not because i don't love undead Labs, you know what I mean?
17:22Just because I think it needs to do a lot for this independent studio that's laying off people right now trying to balance the books and survive. And so right now, how far are we from buying Stay There Decay 3? That's always the question with this, right? Like, this is the whole idea that we've been talking about this forever, and we have been showcasing and re-showcasing it forever. So like, when can they actually get your money to do this? launching in early access would be a great move for them. Get you in there, but then you've got to have the stuff, right, to keep going.
17:53Blessing Adeoye Jr.:How much is State of Decay 2, Sel? I don't remember off the top of my head. If only I had the internet at my fingertips. I'm more looking into, like... And I assume that was on Game Pass also. That might be a tough thing, but... I want to know more about, like, what are we... What are we doing in State of Decay 3 that's going to make it different? Why is State of Decay 3 going to do... Look better. Numbers. Yeah, look better. they're talking a lot about their community. Community survival. The zombie apocalypse nearly wiped out humankind. Years after the initial outbreak, carve out a life for yourself in a world gripped by blood plague.

18:26Play as a community of survivors, build up your settlements with friends, and destroy zombies in State of Decay 3. The latest in the franchise from developer Undead Labs.
18:35Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I'm trying to double check these sources because Google always does the thing where it gives you the AI overview. Yeah, I hate that shit. Yeah, but like as I'm clicking in, it seems like State of Decay 2 did extremely good. Okay. But again, I'm trying to double check and look deeper into the sources. Mike says non-tethered world. Mike, just come to the office. Why are you going to be like Joey Noel always almost late? You know what I mean? May 2018, Syndicate 2, Outsold God of War, and Detroit Become Human. Okay. So, like, I might turn this car around and go, they're fine. If those are the kind of numbers we're talking about.
19:09How far from them getting money from this game are they? I mean, that's a really good question. It's just what it comes back to for me of like how far from getting money. Yeah. They need money now. They need people to buy this. Crush Lemon says, eat it, Greg. I want to play the game. I'm a State of Decay fan, motherfucker. It sounds like I hate State of Decay.
19:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I hate everybody. You know, I'm in State of Decay too. My character model. No way. Yeah. No way. Back when I lived in Seattle, yeah. Really? I had friends that worked with people that worked at Undead Labs, and they were like, we're looking for people to put in the game. How do I know this story? I've told it multiple times on the show. How do you tell me? Just talk to me. You know how much I like to talk to you. You probably forgot. It's okay. It's okay. Probably, actually. I probably did. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so you can find me in the game. Push back against a new threat. Equilibrium has been broken.
19:49A new zombie evolution threatens to take over the landscape. Reclaim territory, scavenge, build, and fight to create safety for your community. Your choices matter. It's your story. Make tough decisions about where to live, what to build, and who to recruit in your community. Permadeath is an ever-present danger in your community. Every risk must be weighed. Again, even reading that, I'm like, oh, that just sounds like State of Decay. But people want State of Decay, though.
20:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, I guess. Yeah. Let's bring in some super chats for you. Stuart, actually, before we get to Stuart, I'm trying to find more relevant ones in the conversation we're having. Like this one. Fucking Stuart. I saw from, no, no, it was Stuart. Sorry, Stuart. That's the one I was looking for. Stuart Little's tiny car writes in and says, Hi, Greg. I know a while back you mentioned how the industry will get much worse before it gets better, and it definitely has. Do you think we are over the hump, or do you think things get even worse? Well, man, that's eye of the beholder. I think it's so bad already that it's hard to see the moves happening, getting worse.
20:48I don't think we're over the hump. There's still a lot. I mean, Xbox still has a quarter of these layoffs to get out. And what does that look like? And again, how fucking demoralizing is that going to be when it is the team that brought you Gears E-Day? All of them gone. You know what I mean? We lost the story guy yesterday. We saw that as part of the layoffs. And then you see whatever's going to happen after Fable and so on and so forth. Like, I don't know. I think it's hard to, I don't want to what makes it good or bad, right? But it's like that 1600 from Xbox was a fucking day. Yeah. I mean, that was a huge fucking bloodletting.
21:19And so like, are we going to see something like that again? I doubt it. I doubt. I mean, in the history of video games, yes, of course. But I mean, like in the immediate future for what we're talking about. Also, what's up with that? I hear Mike fucking talking out there. You know what I mean? Like, I just heard Mike say shit, but he hasn't come in here.
21:35Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I think he's, I don't think he has the real opinion. I think. Mike! Mike fucking Howard! I hope the cops are gone. He ran into the police officer out there. He goes, oh, what's up, Slappy? He got really excited about this. I hear you talking out there, talking here. Here's the deal. It's like you're in the lab. It's not a welcoming place to come in and hang out. This is your home. What are you talking about? I come in the lab and yell at you all the time. Can I use this microphone? Can Mike use that microphone? Yes, yes, yes. Yes, I can? Okay, now I can hang. Hey, guys, what's up? I hear you talking about State of Decay 3 with Undead Labs.
22:06Is State of Decay 3 going to do what Undead Labs needs it to do, Mikey? Will it do what Undead Labs... I like how Bear just threw up the third one. Do you want to go to the third one because there's a camera on? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Bear says, no, no, no, no. Oh, no, no. Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Yes, State of Decay 3 will do what Undead Labs needs it to do. Now, of course, that is a moving target as Undead Labs now changes its life from being under Xbox and that gigantic umbrella and that, of course, money line to now being a survival crafting independent studio. Now, this is a team that released one and two before Xbox.
22:42You've got to remember that. They didn't release State of Decay 2 on Xbox. Oh, two was before Xbox. They did all of that updates with Xbox, right? So they've been sitting around for a long time. We've seen too many survival crafting games come out, catch red hot fire for the three months, sell a ridiculous total, and then go off into the abyss. That's what I expect State of Decay 3 to do.
23:01Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Do you think it's able to compete in such a crowded space? There's so many survival crafting games. I think that, you know, like the shooter genre, I think with survival crafting games, a lot of people find their one and they hold on to it. But I think the mass audience is always looking for that next hit, that next exciting new thing, that new toy that has something different about it. And that's what State of Decay 3 will become, right? Now, this is a team that's very good at community updates, having a long lifespan of their game, State of Decay 2, for example. So I really do expect this game to last a lot longer than we all think.
23:33But I do think it will pop off like a Dune Awakening. Really? Like that. That's exciting. Of the first three to six months, you'll hear a lot of this game. Okay. It has some big promises because State of Decay 2 was very good. A lot of people don't know that, but State of Decay 2 was a very good game that was built off like a really fun idea of an infested world filled with zombies, a giant map, right, that you and your friends would run around, resource gather, come back to base, build out. You remember all this, Bless. But now the dream is like, it's going to be in an untethered world. That was something that held State of Decay 2 back so far was being tethered to each other.
24:08A non-persistent world where you and I could play at our own times. These are things that survival crafting games are doing in 2019, 2020, 2021, and beyond that State of Decay 2 wasn't doing back then, right? So now you have this idea of everybody loves zombies. They love the premise of this idea of a game. I think this game will do very well. Man, I would know a lot about survival crafting games right now
24:29Blessing Adeoye Jr.:if you let me play RuneScape Dragonwilds. You know, like, you know? But you had to play the John Wick game. I mean, and you brought up a great point. Like, you labeled off seven hot survival crafting games, right, that are, like, red hot right now. But, like, it's going to be a crowded market. There's going to be a tough time finding space. But I think, as you see with all of these, they find their market. Subnautica sold a ridiculous number, and that was a tiny early access slice of that game, right? And so Subnautica is way bigger than State of K3, but I think you're going to see something. They say you miss 100 % of the shots you don't take, so we're emailing PR right now.
25:03Hey, PR person, can Philip Holt, studio head, call me live right now on Kind of Funny Game, Bailey? I want to know why State of K3 is going to be bigger than State of K2. I like that. If you can't call in the next 40 minutes, no support. Don't call me.
25:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:My other question is, then why does Xbox cut it? Is that the wrong move? Because it took too long. Okay. It took too long, plain and simple. That was a game that should have had a smaller timeline. Now, of course, that was a game that released probably right when that acquisition happened, and it became just like community updates and keeping that game alive. But at the same time, you can't go seven years without a next big project and keep that funneling. I think they also had some studio issues. If you look back on the history, there was probably some misconduct and some problems. There were, yeah.
25:46But I think if you looked at it back, there was some problems at that studio that probably had some hiccups there of like not getting this engine to turn when it needed to and also that target is moving all the time of what people want right dune was like the first mmo survival crafting game to kind of hit the market and be like hey we like this i like seeing a bunch of people run around and then of course now you have games like a velheim who hits 1.0 and is the biggest thing on the planet because of their rich rpg systems their fun combat progression their large map, and now you have to look at it and go, what are we bringing to the table, as Greg asks, right?
26:24Vehicles are fun. Building up my base with resources is fun. Finding the zombie nests, those are fun, right? What is the next five things that State of Decay 3 can bring that will be different from, hey, it's just a fun zombie survival craft? See, my thing was State of Decay 2 is so much like State of Decay 1, I felt. You think so? Yeah, that was the turnoff for me. My biggest turnoff was the tethered world. If it wasn't tethered, I would have spent way more time in that. Nothing worse than you and your friends trying to go out and, like, explore this giant open world and being like, oh, you can't go that far from each other.
26:57Like, that was ridiculous. Have they not patched that out? Is that just how it is still? I don't remember. I didn't play seven years later. So, yeah, I don't think they did. Don't get an attitude with me about it. What's up? If I could have said don't get an attitude with me, but you weren't a good attitude. But, yeah, I like the conversation. I think State of Decay 3 will do good for the team as they clearly start to have to lay off a bunch of people and adjust the studio size. If this can get down to the right size for a small team to get a win, I think they'll do just fine. You turned me around.
27:26I'm a believer now. I'm surprised you weren't a believer. It's not that I don't believe in the quality of the game. Okay. I worry about will it find enough of an audience, will it get here in time? How much money, how much runway does Undead Labs have right now to keep going independent? When are we actually going to be playing this? Mike, I know they've been doing betas and stuff right now. You know, you asked that while I was walking into work, and I think you will play this next year fall in some sort of early access. Okay. Early access is great. August 26th, it says, closed beta playtests begin later this year.
28:03Did you look up Dune sales or Subnautica sales? I mean, Subnautica sales, who can count them? You know what I mean? Anthony Gallius can't even count all the money over there. I think they have a lot of money over there. I'm excited. I definitely am riding for State of Decay. I think this team has to adjust to it being a smaller team for sure and understanding, like, this game should now be an early access Dragon Wilds. This should be a new early access Velheim. This is where that team should be, and I think that's tough. Coming off of Microsoft's dollar, where you probably have a much larger team than that with a higher quality bar, but, like, in reality, if you want this to survive, a lot of these games have to be lower quality, lower budget, super early access, and then have a small team to just kind of hope it gets there.
28:46Alright. Thanks, Mike.
28:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You didn't get an email back yet? Not yet, but yeah, I give him 40 minutes. 40 minutes? Oh, before the end of the show. Okay, sure, sure, sure. I mean, this is what Philip Holt's got to learn. You're an independent studio now. You can just call. Just call in. Come on. Some more Super Chats for you. JBC writes in and says, Xbox patenting ads during gameplay is fundamentally worse than Sony ditching physical. I'm tired. Why are we in the middle of a state of the case story talking about that? I don't know, man. And also, that's not even an argument worth having. Josh K writes in and says, Uncle Tax, sis gave birth to my niece on a night to remember the 21st of September.
29:27Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Congratulations. Poe's birthday. You'll never forget. I'll never forget that Poe and your niece have the same birthday. Yep, that's the date in September you'll never forget. Foxy Steve KobaPlays writes in and says, just sharing some good news that I got promoted today. Also saying that I appreciate all the hard work the whole KF team has been putting in this crazy year. Much love, gang. Thank you so much. We love you. And congratulations on your promotion. JoshyFrog writes in and says, they're filling the studio with snakes for top 100. You got us. Koba Gameplay. 100 best friends come in. I was going to say some of them.
30:04Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Uh, Koba Gameplay says, my college professor claims to have spearheaded the Jake from State Farm in 2K collab. ISU had a close, close connection to State Farm as they built our business building. Is your, do you go to Illinois State University? The Redbirds. Because, yeah, State Farm is headquartered in Bloomington. So that would make sense. You're putting it all together. Yeah. That's really neat. Also, if you're listening from Bloomington, tell my aunt I said hi. Oh, okay. Yeah. brookie1991 says eight years and they haven't made a sequel i mean i don't think xbox was wrong it's not nice but you gotta show some work within eight years i don't like this argument and it's been made for a number of different studios and things like that xbox is the customer i guess in this situation maybe more they're just the proprietor the owner of the restaurant and they're telling the chef what they want and the chef is showing them the food they're saying not like that like this and then you go back and work on that dish you come back not like that like you know what i mean like if stated decay three had been under undead labs and they weren't under xbox then it would have been a much different conversation about how quickly you got the content it's back to the argument a long long long long long long it's probably too specific of an ign kind of funny thing but when we were fresh out of kind of funny uh it was when they announced, I think Spider-Man, like Tom Holland and they were doing the whole thing and he would be in the civil war and yada, yada, yada.
31:35And it broke in the middle of the, like at seven o 'clock and me and Colin were already drunk. We went live and just talked about it. Right. And that, and I remember hearing stories of IGN was on a, like a company retreat and like, Oh, we got to start covering this. And somebody was like, kind of funny is already live. And it was like that idea of like, when there was no red tape and no one else to talk to, we could just do whatever the fuck we wanted and go off and be live if we wanted to and have the show in the lab. if nothing works and yada yada yada you know what i mean yeah whereas if you're doing something i'm applying the xbox terminology over here right of like if you have a team and red tape and all these different things it's a different conversation not to mention i think the scope of the game dramatically shifted when you have xbox behind you and the money and resources yeah i i don't know i
32:14Blessing Adeoye Jr.:think there's so much balance and nuance to what the conversation is of xbox's involvement in their studios and how involved they should been versus should be or should have been versus how involved they shouldn't have been um i have a friend that worked at playstation that i had a conversation about who shuhei yoshida shuhei yoshida me and me and him talked not shuhei but they're having a conversation about how playstation operates as a as a publisher at least how they used to operate i don't know how they're like anymore but one of the things that he would tell me was that playstation always prided themselves themselves of being the best place for creators right we want to make sure that we're the best place for developers.
32:53Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And what that means is that we're going to give you the leeway to make your art, make the thing you want to make. That doesn't mean that we're like, hey, make a game, and then we walk away and never check in, never do anything. And even in recent weeks with Shryer's reporting, it sounds like they've even tightened up in regards to that. We are checking in more. We are doing XYZ thing more. But the idea of being the best place for creators, being the best place for that, is we want you to, if Naughty Dog needs to take time to make a game and make it a masterpiece, we're going to give you that time.
33:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:If Sony Santa Monica wants to make God of War and they want to do this whole thing, we're going to support them as much as possible. And even that comes with negatives. When you want to talk about budgets ballooning, when you want to talk about death time taking too long and all these things, and now you see them trying to correct those things and it's a mess over there. I think to the Xbox thing, there is a balance between this studio hasn't put out a game in however many years since Oniyu. And then also, like, hey, maybe we need to check in. Like, we need to be involved with what the studio is because you want Undead Labs to be happy as they're making their next game.
34:03Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You want Undead Labs to have a creative freedom and a creative hunger to be like, yo, we care, and we want State of Decay to be our baby. But, like, the argument falls apart for me of, well you let them or they they took so long to make this game when you can say that about half their studios like you're telling me Undead Labs took that long you're telling me Rare took that long you're telling me like these studios that had their projects cancelled shut down all of them were all independently fucking up and Xbox's their hands are clean it's like no you've got to be involved with your studios at the same time I forget if it was on the Patreon chat today for Greg Way where somebody brought this up or it might have just been a YouTube comment I caught of someone talking about like, in all of our discussion yesterday, which is so focused on the now, we weren't talking enough about the past and this Phil Spencer era of trying to give freedom to the studios.
35:00Because it does come down back to having a boss slash a cook that is to, or not a cook, an owner of a restaurant, telling you you have all time in the world if that's what's happening. You know what I mean? Or again, you are fucking up and they're like, well, okay, just change this little thing and come back to me in a year and a half and talk to me about it. Clearly, leadership was an issue. And the problem, I think, that we continue to see with Xbox is what the message is is an issue. Go make these artistic experiences to get Game Pass and get people playing them. Okay, great. But you're making it, and it's not where you want it to be, but you're still working on it, but it's okay.
35:33We have so many studios making so many games, and we're making other games. Again, where it comes back to, which is my whole crux of what's wrong with Xbox, when it finally gets to Microsoft being like, yo, knock the shit off and make money. You can't swing the wheel of the ship and turn it around that quickly. You have studios who have been trying to make the perfect vision of the game or whatever they want and being told they have all the time in the world to do it. And suddenly they don't, and now they're out on their ass and there's layoffs.
36:04Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Brookie writes in, Brookie1991, and says, I think my argument is all these studios chose to be bought. I wear customer facing. They tell me what I want. I deliver whether I agree or not. If you don't want to boss, stay independent. And to that, I'd say the Microsoft that you were bought by, or the Xbox that you were bought by, I should say, is different from the Xbox today. Like, in a way, I kind of understand, to an extent, all the parties involved, where you're double fine or you're compulsion. You're an independent developer, and you're being approached by a massive corporation telling you, hey, we like these games that you're making.
36:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You're making smaller titles. Make these for us because we have a plan in place to put these games on Game Pass. And these are the kind of games that we want. Guess what? Over time, that management got kicked out and now Asha's in. And Asha has an entirely different vision. You don't fit Asha's vision. Therefore, you're gone. It's like, well, Double Fine didn't know that that was going to happen. And maybe, like, I don't know, maybe the savviest business person in the world could have seen that that was going to happen. But, like, I don't think Double Fine and Compulsion and Undead Labs and Ninja Theory thought that Xbox was going to acquire Activision, which would lead to a multi-year legal dispute and would lead to the company changing in that way.
37:22Yes. You are correct. But here's the thing of what we're overlooking is it's fucking hard and terrifying to own your own destiny and your own business. That too, yeah. And as video games, even in what, how long ago was the giant buyout? We just talked about it yesterday. Ten years, whatever it was, when they got all these companies. Oh, like 2018, 2017, somewhere around there. Even then, video games was tumultuous, and no one knows what the next thing's going to do. So to have Phil Spencer come in and say, hey, we want to buy your studio, bring you over, this is the vision, this is the play, and nothing's guaranteed anywhere in the world.
38:00You're not – Double Fine and Compulsion and all of them only needed one bad game to sink the company to begin with and not one bad game, but one miss. Yeah, we know how I know that worked. So to come in and be like, hey, we're going to take care of you. This is the vision. And I think the honest-to-God belief and message was true of if we knock this out of the park, we're going to be set. Xbox is going to be great. This is – we're going to – you know what I mean? Like, let's get the best creators in here to give you a Game Pass thing to have reasons to buy your Xbox and be on Xbox. If the winds would have blown a different direction on several of these games, we'd be having a different conversation.
38:34Asha would not be in charge. Xbox would be profitable. That didn't happen. Pretty much at every turn of both video games and the technological market, it has gone the wrong way for Xbox and Microsoft on this one to get us where we are today. And so that sucks, but I don't sit here and blame compulsion. I don't blame Undead Labs. I don't blame, like, no, somebody came in and was like, we can give you money to let you go create shit and just worry about creating shit and not worry about this.
39:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. Okay, fuck, yeah, I want to go do that. 100%. Real quick, I have gotten a response from PR. Oh, okay. Hey, Greg, nice to hear from you. He won't be available today, unfortunately, but would love to set something up in the near future if that works. Okay. So we're going to get him in here. All right. We're going to get him in here. 42:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I don't know what you said. Weird? Story number two. As we were coming back to add, it just gave me a stare. And I'm like, I have no idea what you said. Story number two. A new update for the Xbox PC app reveals Xbox Mythic Achievement from Tom Warren at The Verge. Xbox appears to be ready to launch its own version of PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. A new update to the Xbox PC app has revealed Mythic Achievements, which according to data in the app will appear once a player completes all the achievements in a game. Mythic Achievements appear on screen with a unique unlock sound, and players will reportedly be able to track them through the Xbox dashboard.
42:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Xbox players will also be able to display their Mythic Count on their profiles. Mythic Count. Some Xbox Insider testers have already started spotting references to mythic achievements in early versions of the Xbox dashboard. Asha Sharma revealed last month that Xbox would be getting a platinum trophy equivalent later this year. Microsoft still hasn't officially announced mythic achievements, but if they're already starting to appear in early Xbox software, then you can bet they'll turn up officially very soon. Barrett, can we play this with sound so that our audience can experience the glory that is the mythic achievement?
43:35Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I assume they hear it. I assume so too. Oh, he did already. Okay. I can't hear it now. But it's okay, Barrett. Me and Greg listened to it right before the show. That's right. Greg, rate the Mythic Achievement on a scale of 1 to 10. I mean, Johnny come late least. Am I right, everybody? The Platinum Trophy, of course, invented what we know as achievements. Steam and Xbox then copied it. And here we are. You know what I mean? Once again, just dragging up the rear. It's going to do wonders for the online conversation about how much we have Xbox. Good for them. I'm glad they have it. You know what I mean?
44:11It seems cool. It's like as a, I would call myself a retired trophy hunter. You know what I mean? I understand the drive and the thing and the cap off to it. For me, it's that I want Xbox achievements to matter more on my profile. I feel like when I turn on my Xbox, like I don't, on PlayStation, obviously I was a psycho about it. So I was very, but it's like your levels up there. You're seeing your thing. Like it's in your face where achievements. I always feel like I have to dig for. And even when I get there, it's like, all right, well, where is it? And I got to go. And then granted, this is the fact that I am a PlayStation person and not an Xbox person.
44:44Sure. I get there. The UI is a little bit different for me, but like, cool. Good for you. Yeah. Go get them. I'll give it a rating. I'll say nine out of 10. Nine out of 10.
44:51Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Okay. Yeah. Amazing. Good sound. Okay. Yeah. It's a great time. It goes on a long time. It goes on a long time. I'd like to see that in, you know what I mean, when I'm playing the game. It's some fucking crushing or crazy scene. Yeah. You can't hear the dialogue. It's, like, very important. Yeah. It's like, how was your father? And it's, like, mythic achievement over it. But, yeah, good for y 'all. Good. I don't have much more to say. No. It's neat. Where are you? You've never cared about achievements or trophies or anything, have you? I mean, very lightly. Like, very casually. I think I'm at probably about 20 platinums now, somewhere around that.
45:22Blessing Adeoye Jr.:So it was never a thing. It was never a thing for me to chase. It was always the thing for me to, oh, okay, I've beaten this game. I've done enough content. Now let me look at my trophies. If I'm close enough, then I'll get the platinum. I think it's either that or the games that I love, love, love. Like Persona 5, for example. Persona 5 Royal. I got the platinum. I mean, easy. It was a time sink. Easy in the way of beating Persona 5. It wasn't Persona 4 Golden of like, hey, this one random line happens, so you have to keep fucking running this shit over and over again. Exactly. I think it was our first platinum.
45:54I've been Shadow of Mordor. You hide your trophies all the time from me, so I don't know. I can't keep it. I mean, listen, we got games in for review. Can't let people know that I'm playing God of War Laufey right now. Yeah, I did this last night. I was getting ready. Believe it or not, already that time of year where you got to start thinking about game awards and end-of-the-year coverage and yada, yada, yada. So I started building out stuff, and I was like, I got to look through my games or whatever. And I went to PSN Profiles to look at my profile, and I was like, I'm such a fucking joke. You know what I mean?
46:19Like, look at me infected by this PC nonsense now. I opened up Steam that's my entire library for the year then I opened up Playstation and I'm like what was I playing over here, what did I forget that I did over here oh yeah 007, I did that here for some reason
46:32Blessing Adeoye Jr.:there's a neat thing that I've discovered as I've been setting up and playing my AYN4 that there is a homebrew retro achievement thing where if you log into this website and integrate it with whatever front end you're using for emulated games, they will track achievements for anything, like any old game. Allegedly, I might be, I'll give you an example that I'm not doing, but allegedly somebody might play Pokemon HeartGold. Sure, allegedly. Allegedly. And that person might be earning achievements as they're playing, and the UI that people have made, this isn't PlayStation, this isn't Xbox, but this might be some of the best integration of achievement tracking I've seen.
47:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And I'm like, dude, these are the streets. These are the internet streets doing this. It's so impressive. So shout out to Retro Achievements. I love it. Go get them, Retro Achievements. Good job. Story three. My last platinum was two years ago, it says. Astro Bot. No way. Yeah. You haven't gotten a platinum in two years? No, man. Wow. Fake gamer. Fake gamer. Story number three. The producer of Zach Kregor's Resident Evil and Weapons is reportedly working on a new Silent Hill film. This is Chris Skolian at Video Games Chronicle. I don't know if I've gotten a platinum since Astro Bot. No, I think about it.
47:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Hollywood producer Roy Lee is working on a new Silent Hill, according to a new report. Lee, who is dubbed the man behind the brands, in a new Wall Street Journal report, has seen continued success producing more than 100 movies, many of which were based on licensed IPs. Beginning his career as an executive producer on the U.S. remakes of Asian horror movies, such as The Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, and The Eye, Lee has gone on to produce a number of other successful films based on licensed IPs or existing films. These have included the likes of The Lego Movie and its sequels and spinoffs, Godzilla King of Monsters, Doctor Sleep, Godzilla vs.
48:25Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Kong, a Minecraft movie, and both modern IT movies. Jesus. And its IT spinoff, Welcome to Derry. More recently, Lee has been working with director Zach Kregor and produced not only his critically acclaimed horror films, Barbarian, and Weapons, but also the recently released Resident Evil movie, which has been a critical success. Lee also has a number of other video game-related projects in the works, including the upcoming God of War TV series, a Dragon's Lair movie, the Horizon Zero Dawn TV series, and a Minecraft movie, Squared. The New Wall Street Journal reports provides a profile of Lee covering his career to date and looking to the future.
49:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:One paragraph in the article notes, quote, Lee has around 20 movies and television shows based on games in development or production, including the fantasy epic God of War, action franchise Battlefield, and the Japanese horror classic Silent Hill. To date, a new Silent Hill film has yet to be confirmed. So a nice little mystery there. Is that real? I think it's real. Would you be excited for it? I think so. I feel like we're in a really good stretch right now of video game adaptations. We're not where we used to be. where I was like, oh, God, this Tomb Raider film is going to be awful. You knew we were going to be in a bad place.
49:37Coming off of Resident Evil, obviously, I haven't seen it yet. You saw it, right? I saw it, yeah. You were on the screencast yesterday about it. Barrett was not on it. You were. I was.
49:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yes. Oh, I thought you said Barrett. I'm looking at you. I'm looking at you. Barrett sitting right there, so I thought you were looking at Barrett. Anyways, you saw the Resident Evil one about it. Yeah. Although, why is Barrett in the conversation? I'm not. We do my thing. desperately bringing Barrett in, just trying to drag him in. Steam coming out of his poor kid's ears as he tries to make any of this shit work. You should have turned over. Barrett, Greg asked you a question. Barrett, Greg's talking to you. But yeah, me and Barrett saw it. I mean, you were at the theater last week. I'm just kidding.
50:21Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, no, Resident Evil's fantastic. I'm looking up the most recent Silent Hill movie because I remember it being bad. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I know it's bad. Yeah. But is it bad that people liked it bad? There was one of those that I thought in there. I don't know. You know what I mean? Where it's just like, this guy seems like he's got the juice. We seem like we're in a good spot. It seems like more than anything. I mean, this guy has the juice to get things greenlit. And it seems like more than anything the companies understand to be a part of it and make it good. Are you vibing with the Street Fighter stuff you've seen?
50:49Yes. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if it's going to be a good movie. I know I'm going to love it. It looks fun. Yeah. It's really fun. It's a weird concept, so why not have fun with it, right? Yeah, exactly. And that's the thing where it's like, you know, the Resident Evil movie being so well received, where we're at with these kind of horror movies, Silent Hill would lend itself well to that. And I feel like, again, this jumps to what we were doing two days ago, right, with our Silent Hill review where it was the conversation about, like, how different Silent Hill is right now. Obviously Townfall, but before it's Silent Hill F, right, and Silent Hill 2 remake and kind of getting into that Resident Evil vibe, right, where it's like, okay, cool, we have the remake of a game you know in third person, but then the new one's our first person, blah, blah.
51:26But, like, hey, we understand as Capcom what we have. And it seems like Konami understands what they have. And they've been better with their games and IP. We'll see with Castlevania here in a couple weeks. You'd hope that would translate over to the movies as well. That you'd see it. And, again, this person seems like he's got the juice to get things made, at least. Or at least, you know, greenlit. When are we going to start producing movies?
51:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I'm so down. It seems like it's got to be easy. I'm so down. Just give them money, right? I feel like we're missing out on an opportunity right now. With all these video game movies happening. How much do you need to produce? Me and you could have been the consultants for all of this. We missed a bag. We did. Yeah. That's not even what the producer does, though. Right? No, but, like, I feel like we would consult the producers. Well, we'd be the – okay. I mean, okay, being a producer, what are the steps? What do we need to do as a producer? We need to have money that we can give to people to make the movie.
52:13Blessing Adeoye Jr.:We got to put the right – okay, being an actual producer seems like a lot of work. No way. That's why I want to consult. I just want somebody to pull me in a room and be like, hey, what are the IPs that we should make a movie? and then I go Elden Ring and they're like, all right, cool, here's$100 ,000 and I go about my day. That's what I want. Okay, okay. But you want to put people in the right place? I'm just saying right now, you know, just throw a couple of grand at somebody or a producer. There you go. All right, I come to you. You're my producer. Yeah. You know, you've been given the, what's your game of the year currently?
52:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Let's say Pragmata. You're given the Pragmata. Ooh, what a game. We want to make a Pragmata movie. You're producing it. Who's the director and who's the star? And who's the co-star? Is that what producers do? I don't think producers do that. Who finds the director if not the producer? Barrett, you saw Resident Evil. You tell us. I did not! You saw Resident Evil. Leave me alone! Somebody says sometimes yes, sometimes no. I feel like that's part of a producer's role. You produce. What? Probably not casting. Movie producing is a very loose term. Yes, they can do that kind of stuff. Yes, they can help out.
53:20Blessing Adeoye Jr.:once a director gets in there with a lot of that creative side. But then there's also producers who are just giving money or giving input and all that stuff. Movie producing is just the term producing in a lot of different fields mean a lot of different things, right? Yeah, 100%. I just want to give them the money. Make more money off of it. You want to be an executive producer. Sure, okay. I don't know. I'm just talking about ads. Story number four Sega wanted to cancel the entire Sonic series But the first movie saved it Says Sonic Team head Lizuka What does that even mean? Read the story We're never making Sonic again?
54:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I don't believe it This is Chris Olean at Video Games Chronicle Sonic Team head Takashi Lizuka Says Sega was planning to end the Sonic series Entirely at one point In an interview with One More Game Lizuka was asked about the history of the series Which turned 35 this year Quote It's been 35 years which means it's been longer than actually my children. So, wait, let me say this again. It has been 35 years, which means it has been longer than actually my children. Yeah, okay, I read that right. You know what he means. I know what he means, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I look upon this franchise sort of like my own son.
54:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Lazuka replied, if I'm Lazuka's child... Yo, Dad, you wanted to kill your first son? He then noted that the series has had numerous ups and downs over the years to the extent that Sega once wanted to draw a line under it and stop making Sonic games altogether. Okay. Quote, there had been good times and there had been bad times, he explained. During the worst times, I was told by higher-ups that we should cancel the entire franchise at a fight within the organization to keep the franchise as long as possible. Luzuka said it was the first live-action Sonic movie which was released in 2020 and was a major critical and commercial success, which essentially saved Sonic and changed Sega's plans.
55:10Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Quote, the biggest milestone for me was the first movie, he said. That had been a great hit and definitely changed the course of this franchise, end quote. Here's the thing. I kind of believe it, actually. Because Sonic was in such a different place in 2020. Fair. We're talking about the Sonic cycle, where a new Sonic game gets announced. Sonic, no, no, no, Barrett. You take it off the screen. Sonic fans get really excited. Oh, no, no. And then the game comes out, and we're like, oh, yeah, the Sonic games are trash. Like, they're really bad, except for Once in a Blue Moon where you get a Sonic Generations or a Sonic Mania.
55:46Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. And so I could see it in a post-Sonic Forces world. I just don't understand, you know, that we were going to cancel the entire franchise. No shot. Because canceling the franchise means, like, I mean, Sonic sells merch. You know what I mean? Like, kids love Sonic. You're not going to stop that. But do you stop making video games? Stop making the cartoon? I mean, maybe you take a break because when they were just garbage after garbage after garbage. I could see that. Yeah. Yeah. Like a Sonic hiatus. We're done making games. But just to say we're killing it. No, Sega, you're not. Shut the fuck up.
56:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I mean, the Sonic toys do sell. Let me tell you. They do? I love the Sonic merch. Ben loves Shadow. I mean, Ben would love my jacket that I got from Insert Coin that's been sitting right here. Ben loves my Insert Coin Shadow the Hedgehog pajama pants that I wear. Hell yeah. And his Insert Coin. Those sweatpants are really comfortable. They are very comfortable. Insert Coin, shout out to them. Shout out. Story number five is going to be real big, except it's not because I'm turning into WeNews. I see what you're doing. I loved it. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where'd I go?
56:49You'd go to our last story, the WeNews channel, where we run you through all the small news items you need to know about. Story number five is WeNews.
56:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Really quick. Really quick, chat. We don't have WeNews assets, so you're going to have to just play it in your head and just pretend the music is here. Greg, do you want to do the tune, and I'll just do it over your... Oh, sure. I can't hear Baron, everybody. Sorry. Chris Scolian at VGC says, the new creative director of Rainbow Six Siege says, players who continue to stick around and play during GTA 6 will be rewarded for their loyalty. We got a Welldweller review roundup for you. Steam description reads... Wait, I mean, what do you think they're going to get, though, for their loyalty? I mean, probably, like, more currency, like a currency drop or something.
57:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Which, this is smart. Hey, if you're playing my game while GTA 6 is out, we'll make it rain on you. Yeah, I can't wait to see what Skate does. Yeah. I might just boot up other games to see what happens. They're all offline. We're not even paying for servers. We're taking a break. Waldweller is a dark fairy tale metroidvania full of charming characters living in a wretched kingdom. Plays Glimmer, a tiny bird armed with a matchstick who must burn the Wicked Queen to save his family. On Metacritic, it is sitting at a 91. On OpenCritic, it is sitting at a 90. Noisy Pixel gave it a 9 out of 10. Jill Grott, the homie at the Indie Informer, gave it a 9 out of 10 and says, even in this crushing time of year where Indies bear down like an avalanche, I couldn't stop playing.
58:18Blessing Adeoye Jr.:With no time to play anything, I made time to get every achievement in the game, something I rarely ever do. She could have had the big milestone achievement if she weighed a little bit. Oh, wow, yeah. And I would do it all over again if I could. Really cool. This is one that was under the radar for me. So shout out to Welldweller. From Gamatsu, is it Mr. Records or Mr. Records? Mr. Records. Mr. Records will launch for PS5 and Xbox alongside his previously announced Switch 2 and PC versions. Hell yeah, I played this one at SGF. I came back talking about it. It was my game of the show. I liked it that much where you're an old man opening a record store and at night you do platforming levels through the songs you have found.
58:54And then in the daytime you sell them to people in your record shop. I think there's a demo out now.
58:58Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Looking forward to it. Chover Saves the Universe has been delisted on all platforms. I don't like that. That's not good. Yeah, I like that game. That was a good one. Yeah. And then Middle Earth Shadow Bundle is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Fantastic video games. Well, Shadow of Mordor. I can't speak for Shadow of War. Crazy how that happened. What? Which one? Everyone loves Shadow of Mordor. Everybody loves Shadow of Mordor. Everybody's like, I'm good. Yeah. And that is it for Wii News. Let's hop into some Super Chats. Super Chats! Alvaro Cien says, Bless, have you seen the new Chun-Li photo? I have not.
59:32Not safe for work, I must imagine.
59:34Blessing Adeoye Jr.:No, I assume we're talking about from the movie. I'm looking forward to that movie. Lord Foosh writes in and says, Bless, you and Mike should check out Active Matter, an extraction shooter that lets you pick between PVE or PVPVE every match. It's refreshing. Active Matter, okay. I'll look into it. Darwin Auditor writes in and says, Late birthday tax. Glad to have you all at KF. Also, I've been friending. Sorry, I've been fiending for some Pokemon news, even though they wrote friending. Any chance we'll get a Pokemon Presents before the end of the year? I'm going to say no chance because Pokemon Presents tends to happen in February.
1:00:09Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah, February, I want to say, is usually when you can expect those. But if I'm off about that, chat, let me know. Let them know, chat. Barrett says I got it. Hela Drove writes in and says seems like such a management issue more so than the fault of the devs directly. it's been disgusting to see people justifying and sharing on people's layoffs because their favorite games take too long yeah i've been seeing a lot of that on the social media site that i shouldn't stop opening because let me tell you they're not arguing from getting good faith over there a lot of people will be like yes they should be shut down because they didn't release the game under xbox and it's like brother maybe xbox should have managed them better yeah yeah crazy rad says didn't Spencer say buying Nintendo would have been a career highlight?
1:00:54Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The guy had wrong objectives in mind from the start. Xbox leadership hasn't been good since more. He had so many excuses.
1:01:04I mean, buying Nintendo for me would be a career highlight, you know? Yeah.
1:01:08Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I don't know. I'm not here to defend or, or I guess not defend Phil Spencer. I feel Spencer slash Sarah Bond are just avatars for whoever you switch in there. No matter who's at the top, I feel like we end up in the same place. That's a whole different conversation. Yeah, that's a whole conversation. Again, I still blame Microsoft. I put it squarely on Satya. Yeah. True Lothorian says, all this Xbox news makes me wonder what's happening with Enxile and Clockwork Revolution. Are they still their own studio? What do you mean, are they still their own studio? Enxile is owned by Xbox, right? Yeah.
1:01:43Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. Are they still their own studio? Do you mean they didn't get merged with somebody else? Oh, yeah. Yeah, did they not get put under? I mean, yesterday's thing was pretty clear on what they were doing. So if they weren't mentioned there, yeah, I think they're their own. I mean, there's still more to happen with the Xbox stuff. Quarter layoff's still coming. We might get, we'll probably get an update on what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if InXile goes under Bethesda. That seems like it'd be the right move if you're trying to shuffle these things in smaller buckets. Fallout 2? I mean, after Clockwork Revolution, maybe you make them make something.
1:02:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I think they finished Clockwork Revolution. They better. They better. That game looks awesome. Yeah. Like, what, that was two years ago at SGF where they just gave this giant presentation on this game that isn't even remotely close to coming out? I was like, goddamn, you better put that shit out. Yeah. Viram Dex says, birthday tax, I want us all to remember to have empathy for those affected by these layoffs. I couldn't imagine losing my job in this economy. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Ed Reed Fan 20 says, do you think the Coalition and Exile and Playground slash Turn 10 were not shuffled because they have games coming out soon and could then move later?
1:02:47Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Possibly. Maybe that's like an InXile thing of, well, we'll let them finish Clockwork Revolution because then we'll have more of a vision. It's one of those where it's like, I don't think shuffling them right now makes sense in the way they phrased all of this. Right? Turn 10 and Playground are coming together because they've worked together. Great. Boom. There you go. They're doing that thing. Obsidian's working on the next Fallout, so they're going to be with Bethesda. Boom. That makes sense. To be like, also, InXile is making an RPG, so we're shoving them in there. They'd be like, I guess. but yeah i mean i for me it's just the overall thing of consolidation trying to bucket these things because i guess my it comes down to what's happening after clockwork revolution i and to back it up it comes down to how well does clockwork revolution do right if clockwork revolution comes out and it's fine i think then you start to have a conversation with an exile of all right are we making another fallout spinoff are we making a elder scrolls thing like what big ip do we own that isn't being worked on right now that we're going to have you be a part of and then shuffle you under whatever umbrella that is yeah i think it's a tough one i don't envy them i think if clockwork revolution comes out and i think it will i think then they're gone in some i you know what i mean like i just don't i think for the head count they're still trying to get down all this different stuff and then just the vision they apparently have for xbox and ip like i just don't think they're gonna look at them and go you know we need a third fallout studio a third Elder Scrolls studio.
1:04:16I guess not exactly right, but you know what I mean? I feel like it's going to be a, great, your game's out, and even if, I mean, it would have to do juggernautly well, which I don't think it will. I think that's a then, okay, cool, we're looking to sell you off or put you back independent or yada, yada, yada.
1:04:29Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. And we have one more super chat from Meta318 who says, Wii News, Dune Awakening is 50 % off Steam and on Game Pass. Hell yeah. Finally out, finally everywhere. Go be like Nick and have a Thornicopter. Did I say it right? Orphan Copter? I don't know what it is. I think it's like an Orphan Copter. Go get the Dave Batista Copter. Man, let me tell you. I'm not logged in, so I don't have access to You're Wrong. Do you have access to You're Wrong? I have to. Yeah, Greg's going to look into You're Wrong while I check one more time for Super Chat. One more time. Ornithopter. That's what it is. Ornithopter.
1:05:03All right. Kindoffunny.com slash You're Wrong is where you can go and keep us honest. AK.98 says, the Sonic producer is pronounced E-Zuka. E-Zuka. The first letter in his last name is an I.
1:05:15Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Thank you. Hold on. Let me double check. Yep, you're right. You're right. That makes sense, actually. That's on me. Capital Ls don't look like that. No, but it's confusing. It is confusing. It's very confusing. I was playing a different game that I won't say, and they left it. They spelled it out, and I was like, I don't know what I'm looking at. And then they did it, and I listened to the VO for it. I was like, oh, okay. That makes sense. Kebab says, MissedWii News, Ghost of Yotei updated to 2.022 yesterday, ahead of the DLC drop next week. It adds Armor Transmog, four new lo-fi tracks for the Watanabe mode, and Beauty of Yote screensaver mode.
1:05:54Hell yeah.
1:05:55Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Beauty of Yote screensaver mode? Like, I just put the game on, let it chill in the background? Can we do that out there? Yeah, on the screen. I mean, maybe we'll have to ask Roger if we can stop watching Godzilla. I mean, he loves watching Godzilla. We'll also have to dedicate an entire PlayStation for that. They ain't getting a lot of use. They ain't getting a lot of use these days. I guess we have Playstations in here. We're not using this one. Come on. And that's it for your own. And that's it for this episode of Kind of Funny Games Daily.
