In short
Kind of Funny Games Daily covers a major dispute over Subnautica 2, plus Overwatch 2 story/lore concerns and a first look at a new Resident Evil mobile strategy game.
Guests/hosts
Blessing and Addy OEA Jr. are the main hosts. Andy Cortez (Nitro Rifle) joins. No separate celebrity guests are featured; discussion includes IGN/content creator Michael Cripe, J3, and Overwatch voice actor Connor McCloud as referenced interview subjects.
Subnautica 2 guests/backgrounds
Charlie Cleveland (Unknown Worlds lead; filed a lawsuit against Krafton). Max Ted (also named by Crafton and Cleveland). Crafton/Unknown Worlds executives Charlie and Max are central to the claims.
Key claims
Crafton says Unknown Worlds leadership abandoned responsibilities, focused on a personal film, and caused delays; it also says 90% of the up to $250M earn-out was allocated to the three former executives. Cleveland denies the “keep it all” narrative and says the lawsuit is for breach of contract.
Notable examples
Crafton alleges the early access timeline slipped from early 2024; it cites “Moonbreaker” as context for reassignment. Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller says Blizzard wants to return to story after scrapping PvE in 2023. Capcom previews Resident Evil Survival Unit (Leon, Claire, Jill) set in a parallel universe with base-building strategy on mobile.

2:06Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yo, what's up? Welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Friday, July 11th, 2025. I'm one of your hosts, Blessing, Addy OEA Jr. Joining me is the Nitro Rifle, Andy Cortez. I'm doing a Dune Awakening survey. Oh, like you're filling out the survey for them? I'm giving some feedback, yeah. What kind of feedback are you giving? they're asking what kind of player are you are you more of a do you lean more PVE do you like PVP are you into the immersion of the world building or do you prefer whatever you know so I just want to get to the point where they ask like what should we add and I want monsters and aliens oh dude do they have monsters and aliens in the Dune universe so again they're taking liberties with this because it's an alternate history alternate timeline sort of thing but Nick was telling me they got something called like tiger white tigers or well i guess those are real but like they have some sort of tigers in the cheetahs in there in the dune universe a big cat if you will like a big alien cat situation i don't know if it's an alien necessarily because again this all comes from earth you know like okay dune is based on earth yeah it's like expanding out over the course of centuries laser laser tiger yeah so they have like big ass cats i just want to fight monsters i got question yeah tell me and like because like you say dune is you know it's from earth we expanded out over a millennium yeah i guess so so was it like a noah's ark situation where we brought the tigers with us or did we like take the dna and then plant the dna like a seed in the alien soil and then watered it and it grew into a tiger that's a great question because i didn't even know dune was in the in our universe until i'm talking to a random man i just thought it was i just our universe well i just thought it was just like a i don't know like some random alien story like i didn't so so let me tell you so i'm talking to an npc and an npc goes oh yeah and in you know in ancient greece or something i was like oh we're like i didn't know we were doing that here i didn't know you knew about greece interesting you know what i mean okay yeah no that would shock me yeah like i you know if if one of the dune guys says yeah one time in new jersey or something i'd be like whoa that's crazy interesting dune takes takes place 20 000 years after present time and 10 000 years after they have this like giant uh basically a ai robot like uprising that they quelled and that's why they don't have tech yeah that's why they don't have computers oh because they're afraid of the tech they're afraid of the ai yeah ptsd listen we're barely towards that future right now so like what universe do you think star wars is in do you think it's in our universe or a different one that starts that starts out that's in the past right galaxy far far away but it's like long long no it's not no no it's not in the past they're telling it from a point way in the future but it's still the past though i don't think i don't think that's right andy no i don't think so i think it is in the past in a galaxy far far away still in our universe though yeah i don't think it's in our universe but just like so far away and so long ago that It never reached us.
5:13They're not going to reference Wyoming.
5:15Blessing Adeoye Jr.:What if Luke Skywalker was like, I had a vision of a McDonald's? I think in Star Wars lore, they have trouble leaving the galaxy. They have a galaxy that's big and two-thirds of it is mapped. One-third is unknown space. You could be making all this up. I wouldn't know. I think some of the more recent CGI shows have talked about leaving that galaxy. You're talking about the animated Clone Wars stuff? Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's that one blue guy that everyone really likes? Yondu. No, God, guys. Come on, help me out. Star Wars. He left. Jake Sully.
6:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The millions will be going to TJ Maxx. Thank you, Chad. Thank you for knowing what I'm talking about. Thrawn. Thrawn. somehow like they accidentally left the their galaxy and were like locked out for a while and trying to find their way back it's crazy how cool sci-fi is when other people are telling me about i mean that's why those youtube channels the movies are never as cool as like what people tell me well think about like in a short amount of time we could give you like the story that has taken place over the last 30 or 50 years when it comes to dune you know yeah yeah i need more anthology series because i think that's what black mirror does well is that they're like you know let's skip all of like the boring shit let's skip all of like the bill like building the shit up let's just get straight to the sugar let's show you where technology talked about thron and now here's a boy oh what's up we're just have questions well yeah star wars yeah does it take place in our universe takes place in a galaxy far far away but in our universe though right like when they tell when we see the opening scroll that's like are they telling that from the future i was like when they're saying long long ago are they saying long long ago from 2025 i think i think that's the implication like it's somewhere so far out in space like is that text talking to us so far yeah the viewer talking because andy thinks it's some person but the past also if something's over far distance things are happening way long ago anyway like when we see a star explode it really exploded like a thousand years ago or something i honestly when we get into like the colliding of time and space it gets really wacky to me where i really could because don't people age faster in space isn't that a thing well there's time dilation in like interstellar if you're going i still i still well don't tell me i've not seen it yet i've been saving it i've been saving i'm gonna watch it soon bless i'm gonna watch it soon so the thing was barrett it's a very okay from my perspective oh wait hold on that mic's not live what mic you got oh from my oh thank god the mic wasn't live because he said it's interstellar is a very okay movie So whenever I see A long time ago Nagatsuki far far away In my perspective It's an old grandfather Telling his kids this tale And this is like Way in the future I just want to be clear That is canon That's just you man That's just like you Inferring shit That's like not How do they got future ships And lightsabers And we don't even have Flying cars here Because everything sucks here Andy It's far far away They're just in a different universe They developed it Their Big Bang happened earlier so they're further along now you're mixing up universes and galaxies i feel like that works right because because like no the big bang here's my theory we're talking about science right because of course i didn't i didn't come up with a big bang but like hear me out you did it hear me out i was under the assumption was there one big bang or are there multiple big bangs happening can we even theorize one big no we can't theorize it one big we can't so there was one big bang and then it's like it's not called the big bangs theory you know that's fair bless bless there is a theory that technically all our world or our universe is inside a black hole and so the idea could be that all the other black holes also have universes inside them that's where shit gets crazy i saw like a tweet today and you know when it's on twitter that means it's real uh that said earth is in a void like scientists recently discovered that i've been hearing about this yeah that earth is in a void yeah and i've honestly do you think we're in space prison like someone out there has like put us in space prison probably i think i've assumed that for a while no the scientologists are right yeah you think if the aliens if they have like a jury that judged planets and they're judging earth there's no way we're not in prison yeah they look at us and they're like yo we gotta do something about these guys they're fucking dangerous anyway someone said in chat earlier uh which is why i came out here they said they're pretty sure camino is outside of the star wars galaxy no it's in the star wars galaxy it just got erased from the dead uh database um and then Thrawn is from outside of their galaxy.
9:55I forget what he's called. He's from outside of their galaxy? Yeah, like outside of the galactic realm and shit. He's from wild space. That's why I was explaining earlier. Two-thirds of space in the Star Wars galaxy has been explored, and there's one-third that has not. I didn't know it was all mathy like that. That's crazy.
10:16Blessing Adeoye Jr.:ScienceFocus.com, which is a spinoff of BBC. Earth may be trapped inside a giant void in space Says scientists Good This is written by Ezzie Pearson This is story number one on KFGD Just Earth? I think That's a good question Is it not just our galaxy? Is it not the Milky Is it just the Milky Way? It must be the Because the images they show is the Milky Way Yeah That's crazy Oh here we go Yeah no it starts off Earth and the rest of the Milky Way Could be floating in a billion light year wide cosmic void According to new research Yeah this is from two days ago There's a lot of big voids In the seeable universe I mean, it's not crazy.
10:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Is that a good thing? Should we feel safe in the void? Or should I feel anxiety? No, I think we're being punished. I like that. That's a galactic map from Star Wars. You see the dark side there? That's wild space. All right. Oh, wild baby. The survey asked me if I like Imperial testing stations or dungeons. And I like those a lot. I forgot that this spun off of your Dune Awakening survey. How did you guys get from Dune to Star Wars? In Dune, I'm pretty sure that's a crazy hop. I feel like Dune did Star Wars. In Dune, there are no aliens except for maybe the worm, and there are theories that the worm is created by man.
11:29What about the little rat guy? I need monsters. Well, that's animals that have come with us as we travel. I need aliens to shoot. It's just always dudes with guns or dudes that run at you with knives. Dan Ranney says, anyone know why there's no KF podcast? I mean, have you not listened to the last 10 minutes of this episode? It's pretty much just KF podcast.
11:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:all right let's get into the show barrett thank you so much for coming through kevin thank you so much for the context around the rules of dune and maybe some of the rules of star wars i'm still kind of fuzzy on some of it remember this is kind of funny games daily each and every weekday we run you through the nerdy news you need to know about live on youtube twitch and on podcast services around the globe if you love what we do support us with the kind of funny membership on patreon youtube spotify and apple podcast get all of our shows ad free watch us record them live and get a daily exclusive show for a chance to be a part of the show submit your thoughts and opinions as youtube super chats as we go housekeeping for you we're an 11 person business all about live talk shows so today after kftd you're going to get gamescast which is why you should play animal crossing in 2025 featuring gia gettys if i understand this correctly it is the gamescast crew specifically uh greg joey and tim convincing gia that she needs to play animal crossing and then the stream after is going to be a full animal crossing stream uh with everybody hanging out and i believe helping gia make her animal crossing island if you're a kind of funny member today's is a reading of greg's favorite written interpretation of superman brad melzer and chris elio pulis's i am superman it's very exciting thank you to our patreon producers carl jacobs omega buster and delaney the psalm twining today brought to you by shady rays but we'll tell you about that later for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news we have five stories today oh bakers does it starting with our number one this is a follow-up of yesterday's khd but first two new stories here the back and forth it's a he said she said situation getting messy getting real messy did you listen to yesterday's episode or have you caught up with i was like caught up before the episode yeah and i listened to most of it yesterday so i the ijan's article here does a great job of catching us up very briefly before we get into it um but yeah there's a two-parter for these first two stories we have a statement from crafton and then we have the statement from the leads of somatica 2 so hopping into story number one this is from ig and rebecca valentine Subnautica 2 publisher Crafton blames leads for delay in statement.
14:03Blessing Adeoye Jr.:It reads like this. The ongoing drama around Subnautica 2's delay and its team's upheaval continues, with the company Crafton issuing a lengthy public statement today, accusing the studio's leaders of having abandoned responsibilities on the game, alleging they focused on personal projects rather than fulfilling their contracted roles, and suggesting the game's delay is their fault. I'm going to pause there. So to give you context, if you didn't listen to yesterday's episode, right? Trying to find the name of the studio here. Unknown Worlds. Thank you. Unknown Worlds. They are the developers of Subnautica 1.
14:39Blessing Adeoye Jr.:They were acquired by Crafton to then make Subnautica 2. The game was supposed to come out in early access sometime this year with a stipulation in their contract with Crafton that if they were to hit certain financial goals by the end of the year, they will get a$250 million bonus. which is a crazy number by the way we didn't linger on that yesterday that seems like a an oversight that seems like a typo right like you added one too many zeros yeah yeah uh but yeah they're supposed to get a 250 million dollar bonus if they're able to hit certain financial goals um in the last couple of weeks the leads of the studio who are working on subnautica 2 were ousted by the company like out of nowhere kind of mysteriously like oh you're gone we're replacing you with a different uh studio head and crafting delayed the game uh to next year the implication there is that seemingly they're doing that to then not allow them to hit those financial goals so that they can keep the 250 million dollars for themselves and not have to pay that out which happens so much in sports blessing the amount of times that there are players that uh that are so close to a contract little benefit that where there's something in their contract that says if they play this many games or if they have this many snaps if they're like in so many plays or whatever there are sometimes where owners or coaches will be like Like, we're not going to put you in.
15:54And it's like, oh, that's so fucked up because you're close to that$80 ,000 bonus or whatever. There's having so much in sports. It's ridiculous.
16:00Blessing Adeoye Jr.:So hopping into the statement, the full statement, this one coming from Crafton. To our 12 million fellow subnaughts. First and foremost, we sincerely thank you for your continued support, passion, and unwavering dedication to Subnautica. We wish to provide clarity on the recent leadership changes at Unknown Worlds, a creative studio under Crafton. Krafton deeply values Subnautica's unique creativity and immersive world building. To provide fans with even better gaming experiences, we acquired Unknown Worlds, fully committed to supporting Subnautica's future success. We collaborated closely with the studio's leadership, who were central to the creation of the original Subnautica, to foster the optimal environment for a successful Subnautica 2.
16:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Specifically, in addition to the initial$500 million purchase price, we allocated approximately 90 % of the up to$250 million earn-out compensation to the three former executives, with the expectation that they would demonstrate leadership and active involvement in the development of Subnautica 2. However, regrettably, the former leadership abandoned the responsibilities entrusted to them. Subnautica 2 was originally planned for an early access launch in early 2024, but the timeline has since been significantly delayed. Crafton made multiple requests to Charlie and Max to resume their roles as game director and technical director, respectively, but both declined to do so.
17:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:In particular, following the failure of Moonbreaker, Crafton asked Charlie to devote himself to the development of Subnautica 2. However, instead of participating in the game development, he chose to focus on a personal film project. Crafton believes that the absence of core leadership has resulted in repeated confusion, indirection, and significant delays in the overall project schedule. The current early access version also falls short in terms of content and volume. We are deeply disappointed by the former leadership's conduct, and above all, we feel a profound sense of betrayal by their failure to honor the trust placed in them by our fans.
18:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:To uphold our commitment to provide you with the best possible gaming experience, we made the difficult yet necessary decision to change the executive leadership. They continue, Additionally, Crafton has committed to fair and equitable compensation for all remaining Unknown World employees who have continuously and tirelessly contributed to Subnautica 2's development. We believe that the dedication and effort of this team are at the very heart of Subnautica's ongoing evolution, and we reaffirm our commitment to provide the rewards they were promised. So that's the he said from Crafton. Let's bring in story number two.
18:49Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The leads are suing. This is directly from Charlie Cleveland on Twitter.
19:19Blessing Adeoye Jr.:it. Game devs live for this, but it's not currently under our control. We've now filed a lawsuit against Crafton. The details should eventually become at least mostly public. You all deserve the full story. Suing a multi-billion dollar company in a painful, public, and possibly protracted way was certainly not on my bucket list, but this needs to be made right. Subnautica has been my life's work, and I would never willingly abandon it or the amazing team that has poured their hearts into it as for the earn out the idea that max ted and i wanted to keep it all for ourselves is totally untrue i'm in this industry because i love it not for riches historically we've always shared our profits with the team and did the same when we sold the studio you can be damn sure we'll continue to continue with the earn out slash bonus as well they deserve it for all their incredible work trying to get this great game into your hands stay tuned charlie so those are both sides of the story as of late yesterday jason schreier tweeted uh or blue sky or whatever about an hour ago and said update the lawsuit against crafton is for breach of contract the complaint is under seal so no new info there yet it was also a pretty good tweet from or sorry blue sky post from jason schreier where he mentioned that um you know i think a lot of people are missing the fact that like a big part of the story is the fact that the employees of Unknown Worlds.
20:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Unknown Worlds, right? I keep messing up. Unknown Worlds, yes. I keep forgetting the studio name. Well, because they also own PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Yes, yeah. But Unknown Worlds, the Subnautica studio, the bulk of developers there were expecting gigantic bonuses, right? So, like, let's say 80 people worked there, right? Like, they were all expecting six-figure, seven-figure bonuses by the end of the year. Yeah, that shit is life-changing. Life-changing bonuses. Yeah, this is... Wow. Yeah. I, we're in a weird spot with it because when this happens with Kraft, when this happens with the founders and even before Krafton puts out their statement, I'm like, oh, wow.
21:26Fuck Krafton. This is all awful. Are we saying it right? I don't know. Krafton? Krafton? Krafton? Yeah.
21:32Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Krafton, I would think. It, obviously, it's, it's, it fucking stinks. Like this, there's a stink in this fucking story. This feels so shady. This obviously feels really wrong. You read this shit as an outsider and you go, these people, these employees would have all been subjected to a$250 million bonus had they released in 2025 and hit certain marks. But the game's getting delayed. This seems so cut and dry. This seems so obvious about what's happening here. And in the back of my mind, I'm like, but there's got to be more to it, right? And regardless of whatever happens with these founders, it's all about, for me at least, these 80 to 90 or however many people working at Unknown Worlds to get what they are due and get what they are owed.
22:21Yes. Like that. It it it's insane that we're at that point right now. And I think Krafton being, you know, the head of the executives who don't ultimately give a shit about what their employees are getting or what people are what money are making because they want the money for themselves because that's how executives work. And it's all about how can I get the most for the smallest amount of input, you know? yeah and i think their line of thinking is well what an easy opportunity for us to just delay the game because maybe yes maybe the founders are fucking up i'm not going to i'm not going to act like maybe the the founders were totally okay and doing like a perfect job maybe they did fuck up but delaying the game when it seems like everybody knows that the game doesn't need to be delayed and you're only doing it for monetization purposes then that's like that's a big
23:17Blessing Adeoye Jr.:knife in the back right there yeah i feel like that's one that obviously i've not like gone in and seen what other people who work at the studio are saying or even if they are saying things right but like you would think that many people at the studio enough people would probably know to be like oh no we could have shipped this like this is gonna shipable state for early access of course I mean, we've seen a bunch of disasters in early access, but it seemed like every statement that was said so far, at least to me, seemed like, hey, this is totally viable for early access. And we're going to be fine doing this.
23:51And you are only making this call so that none of us get this payout. What do you think ultimately happens with this lawsuit? Where do you think the founders are going with this? Do you think the founders are in any way coming back? And in part of my mind, I'm like, wow, what an awesome marketing opportunity this could have been. Or if any studio wanted to fake any of this drama, it would be so lucrative to just be like, we were going to boycott you all, but now we're back because you all are doing the developers right. I'm in such a weird spot with this because you just want these developers to get what they're owed.
24:32Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I think, I hope, I hope the developers get what they're owed. When I say the developers, I don't even mean just like the leads. I mean like the ADP people. No, that's what I mean. They're working at Unknown Worlds, right? In that last part of their statement, the Krafton, the publisher, right? Like they say that they're committed to fair and equitable compensation for all remaining Unknown World employees who have continuously and tirelessly contributed to Sonata 2's development. That to me says that they're going to own up to what people were told they were going to get, at least to some extent.
25:01Blessing Adeoye Jr.:are they going to get as much maybe not i don't know i that's that's a tough thing to parse out especially if crafton made this move presumably to try and avoid paying out that much money but maybe if it is a thing where they say also in their statement that 90 of the money was um was allocated toward the leads if you can still take that 10 if we can take that 25 million dollars and divvy that up between 80 developers you can still make that sing in a way where i'm like listen i'm still getting my six figures bonus here out of that 25 million across our company that's still life-changing money right um so i hope that that happens uh now are the leads gonna come back to unknown worlds and like work on subnautica i don't think so i think this taints everything i think once you start suing the publisher i think that relationship is done and also i think both parties wouldn't want to do it unless unless the leads i think the only way they work on subnautica to or work on Subnautica again is if they were to just buy out unknown worlds like if they had enough money to buy out the studio from crafting and like if everybody at the studio has a great relationship and everybody who works there like wants to work for these leads and like there's a cry there's a plea from the studio to be like no reunite us with these leads like this isn't going to work without them then maybe there's a maybe there's a possible outcome where yeah they buy it out and all and like they're able to have a split from crafting but i think in no universe zero universe is like um uh cleveland and like the other leads that were ousted end up coming back and working under crafting i think that relationship is absolutely done yeah i uh i mean it's man it's it's such a fascinating one this is one that's going to be like we need a a book and a movie made out about this story this is all the entire jason schreier book yeah there's an entire novel there's just so much shadiness and again like i just keep going back to like man this it's this story stinks of like you know there's some shady shit happening all around this and i you know again at the end of the day i still believe that the founders could have fucked up and if they were messing up enough to be ousted then they deserve to be ousted but to use that as it really just seems like they're using that as the opportunity as an as and as an excuse to say well hey hey the founders are messing up now we don't know how to do this bonus yeah if you honestly from craft and if i were doing my speculation thing right like speculation station speculation station right i would look at this i think from craft and it was like probably a fine print situation of um in this paragraph They say...
27:45Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Don't work on personal films. Well, no, like, kind of, right? They say in this paragraph, we allocated approximately 90 % of the top... Oh, sorry, 90 % of the up to$250 million payout to the three former executives with the expectation that they would demonstrate leadership and active involvement in the development of Subnautica 2. If the executive leaders there of Unknown Worlds implied or even spent their time, yeah, working on a personal film, doing other things, I could easily see Crafton being like... oh this is perfect like you don't have to give them that money because like in the fight we hey you guys aren't demonstrating active involvement we expected full time from you you guys are putting in part-time hours right like that could be enough for them to go all right get rid of them we don't have to give them the 250 mil like the game's not ready and it's like we'll know what it is whether the founders are here or not the game is ready yeah and that's the thing is i think the game not being ready is more of a scapegoat for them looking at the founders and being like oh well they weren't active involvement we're going to delay it and make that the real excuse or make that like the scapegoat excuse but the real thing we're doing here is beefing with the leaders yeah i mean jason schreier's post here perfectly encapsulates what i was thinking as i'm reading all of this where he says as a little paraphrase quote uh joke tweet saying the dev team totally fucked up because the founders were gone but now the founders are gone they're gonna kill it yeah and that's exactly what's happening here it's so shady it's so messed up and it is the it is the giants clashing up there and the people at the bottom will be the ones subject to the punishment which which really really sucks and i hope that whatever happens with this lawsuit whatever it is i just want the public pressure to be on craft and to have these employees get what they're due because based on just you know again i don't know exactly how true a lot of these statements are but it just seems like a lot of developers are still kind of not even sure what's happening yeah they're not really being informed they're reading these press releases saying oh uh they will still be you know the dev team will still be um helped out and they will still be gifted or whatever the hell and it seems like a lot of devs are like well we don't know shit yeah like if i'm a dev at unknown worlds right i'm probably not saying shit right now like i'm i'm just at work doing my thing just praying to god i'm like well i thought i was gonna get this bonus but like all this shit's happening i'm scared to say shit but like you're yeah probably just hoping yeah i hope i see this money someday put the pressure on we're not buying this shit unless these devs get these bonuses um andy we've been talking a lot about subnautica uh in the last couple of days i want to switch over to a conversation about overwatch but before we do want to switch over to a conversation about patreon.com slash kind of funny and youtube.com slash kind of funny games where you can get the kind of funny membership which allows you to get shows ad-free.

33:23which of the following are your main motivations to play dune awakening i'm gonna go um i'm gonna go leveling up i love the progression and i'll go customization because man my house is looking
33:33Blessing Adeoye Jr.:real good right now when i was watching nick just build my house over the course of a few hours i was like wow this it's fun it's kind of cool he's kind of cooking also don't don't act like you didn't hit me with an african proverb proverb during the ad break i was trying to think of what the saying was and i don't know what piece of media i saw it in but the proverb is when elephants fight it is the grass that suffers yeah which is beautiful like i suppose that's a great way to picture this right talking about the leads and the in the publisher and then everybody else is like i hope i get this bonus yeah like i hope i got whatever y 'all are doing up there you know please allow us to you know get our due uh story actually before we move on to story number three i'm gonna we have a couple of super chats peter duke writes in and says blessing overture yes one day blessing overture overture i was thinking about it because i'm like i'm not actively actively playing anything right now but also like donk kong bonanza there has never been a better time to hop into lies of What's the release date of Donkey Kong Gananza?
34:35And we're excited for you to play today on Xbox Series S. I don't know why I went with that.
34:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:See, that comes out in, yeah. Donkey Kong Gananza comes out in, like, six days. Can I beat Overture in six days? Yeah, you can. I don't want to get interrupted, you know what I mean? 15 hours. Oh, is it really? Yeah. Because I have to get there for at least 30 hours. Getting there, I mean, you drop the difficulty down to, like, the easiest one. Get there, Chapter 5, it's easy. It's so fast. you have these chapters so fast I'll think about it Sky Force Lynn says if Star Wars is in our universe give me a miniseries where Force users are on Earth I kind of fuck with that they're so far away though guys they can't get here that's true I'm sure like by the time they get here they're dead because of the time because they like when you think about it right like cool they got lightsabers and shit but like we got the internet you know like there's certain things like haven't reached there and like certain things didn't reach back you know we're so far away so here we don't have the Force i think they have it over there they don't have i think they have the internet you know they don't they don't have bbls in the star wars universe but we got them here so yeah you give and take which one do you want the four star bbls pros and cons pros and cons story number three overwatch two director says blizzard wants to get back to story content after fans feel it dropped the ball with pve this is michael cripe at ign overwatch two game director aaron keller has addressed criticisms that blizzard entertainment dropped the ball when it comes to things like story content than PvE and animated shorts.
36:05Blessing Adeoye Jr.:The face of Blizzard's popular hero shooter opened up about the team's struggle during an interview with content creator J3 and Overwatch 2 voice actor Connor McCloud. Although the multiplayer title is largely known for its team-based gameplay, Color recognizes that some story content will need to come back for Overwatch 2 to be firing on all cylinders. Quote, One of the things that we hear our players talk about a lot, you see online, it feels like overwatch has dropped the ball when it comes to story and lore keller said in response to a question from mcleod well you kind of see that we put we we used to put few more of the big animated shorts out than we do nowadays end quote overwatch animated shorts are a sore spot for fans blizzard originally built excitement with a series of high quality cinematics from 2016 to 2023 with each highlighting abilities for characters like reinhardt hanzo genji may bastion and more while also showing how many of its 43 playable characters fit into the larger story.

37:02Blessing Adeoye Jr.:What began as somewhat frequent lore drops eventually started to fizzle out around the release of Overwatch 2 in 2022. It's been nearly two years since fans received a 3D animated cinematic. Frustrations with the lack of animated shorts reached a bowling point when Blizzard announced it would be scrapping its PvE hero ambitions in summer 2023. With a long-promised story-driven mode cancelled, and animated shorts releases crawling to a halt. Blizzard had to start from scratch. Although it's been years without a significant update, Keller says the Overwatch 2 team hasn't completely left Story behind.
37:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Quote, To speak frankly about it, we did have a big plan to go after Story in the game. That was the PvE side of it with the campaign and everything like that. That didn't work out. So it was kind of a bit of a reset moment for us when that happened. And we would like to get back to it. I think one of the best parts of Overwatch is the universe and the characters that are there. That's definitely a goal of ours to get back to it. There's been a bit of a step backwards and we had to take an order. There's been a bit of a step backwards that we had to take in order for us to be able to start moving forward on it again.
38:11Blessing Adeoye Jr.:End quote. One idea many fans, including McCloud, would love to see is an Overwatch TV series. Keller says he's not opposed to the idea going as far as to say we'd love to do that. it's unclear how when or if keller and the overwatch 2 team will be able to enter another golden age one thing is clear color knows over what overwatch fans want more story content quote i think for us to say that overwatch 2 is firing on all cylinders we need to have some of that come back keller said andy you're an overwatch fan you're a big overwatch fan i'm i'm also a big overwatch fan but i'm kind of lapsed a bit oh it's been it's been some years i'm definitely lapsed as well yeah you know i when you bring up conor mcleod i'm like who is that and i look at the character i go that's i haven't seen that character in game nor have i seen maybe the the character prior in no like that's how long it's been because he plays a character named hazard and hazard is this kind of like pink purple a lot of like purple spikes and i don't even know what the dude does okay and that's just that's how lapsed i am that's wild it's been a long time dude i'm so ignorant because i read that assumed i totally assumed it was um agent 47 or not agent 47 soldier 76
39:26Blessing Adeoye Jr.:he's really laughs that doesn't sound right yeah soldier 76 yeah yeah it's been a it's been a while i i know that overwatch 2 and the failure that was Overwatch 2's story mode and trying to, and really putting PvP on the back burner, a lot of that led to less focus on what they were already doing, right? And so, like, the PvP game really, really hurt because of that. When you go into development and you're focusing so much on what these PvE story modes and little snippets are going to be, Remember we reacted to that one Overwatch direct to live during the pandemic? We were picking it apart and being like, oh, man, okay, this could be cool.
40:12Blessing Adeoye Jr.:And we were theorizing and speculating. We were super hyped for it. They talked about different classes and different abilities. And a lot of that, I feel, is still being utilized in Overwatch Arena, in the Arenas mode, which is the third-person mode that has you kind of round-by-round customized. Is it Arena or Stadium? Stadium, Stadium. You're right. Arenas is Apex, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. God, I miss Apex Arenas. It has your character being customized and changing little RPG abilities to where you go, oh, maybe I want Zarya's shields that she's shooting out to last longer. Maybe I want to be able to shoot two or three now.
40:50Or maybe it lets you customize in a way. And I think that a lot of those systems and mechanics were maybe kind of left over from what they were doing where it's like, oh, you can have Reinhardt do three shield strikes or a hammer strike. or you can have him charge this many times with a small cooldown i what really really got lost was the story and lore and that's why so many people really still love this universe that was just so much potential yeah everybody whenever you talk about overwatch lore and story it's like the number one term you hear is like man they drop that shit they drop the bag bad that's like if
41:26Blessing Adeoye Jr.:there was a shit list of like top 10 biggest dropped balls dude yeah in video games yeah workshop
41:39that's a real big shit list
41:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:dropped balls dropped balls yeah in the bit but yeah i think i think not capitalizing on the overwatch like lore and characters in like a bigger way is like the biggest because the cinematics were so fucking awesome and those are just like animated you know three three to five minute things but like that fueled us you know what i mean that fueled us they were so high quality we're thinking back to the days where every discussion that i was having about overalls when it was just an obsession of mine was like holy crap can you imagine a netflix animated show can you look back when like you know streaming was at not quite as large as it is now when there wasn't like a million streaming services it was like oh my god if netflix did some sort of animated show that would be so amazing and it it really does feel like whenever we talk about the overwatch world that is the that is a massive part of it because i've i think overwatch is based on what a lot of people have been telling me overwatch is in a really good state with gameplay and with community and kind of feeling like oh shit things are feeling awesome again right the the sort of moved back to 6v6 and all of that it feels like you know they're starting to get momentum back oh yes and no okay um i know that the 6v6 thing was still like being tested a whole lot but it based on what everybody's been mentioning it feels like overwatch is finally kind of like taking the turn for the better interesting i'm sure chad will kind of yeah hero bands and comp is amazing that's another massive thing also i said yeah 66 is a permanent mode yeah game mode And they're taking cues from League of Legends and all of these other competitive games where now you can ban heroes, which is like massive.
43:25Because whenever somebody is way too meta and way too OP, you ban that dude immediately at the start of a match. And now that team can't play. So like all of those things, they're finally taking these cues from a lot of these other competitive games. And it really feels like there's a real nice upward swing of momentum. The lore stuff would be amazing to get back to.
43:44Blessing Adeoye Jr.:I'm dude the fact that can you believe Overwatch 1 came out nine years ago it's been that long and I tell you it's real high on my 100 top 100 I mean I think it's real high on mine and like it's been that long and they never were able to take full advantage of that like that breaks my heart because I like we're in an era where everything is getting adapted every video game possible we got a fucking split fiction movie coming with Sidney Sweeney and we can't get a fucking Overwatch movie like what is going on here it's so it's so ripe yeah it's so perfect and we've already we're not even talking for for nobody for people in the chat who have not watched any of these cinematics i'm not talking oh it's cool to see this video game character brought to life in an animation and just the novelty of how cool that is i'm talking like these are pixar level at when they were at the top of their game these are like amazing storytelling wise i think overwatch even in the video game the characters had such personality and charm and like i think we could have a whole podcast talking about how much overwatch changed the game it's like you know hanging out in the i'll call it the pre-game area and like mercy talking to another character lucio doing his thing and like the amount of different like like you know vibrant like um designs and colors and like how they will talk and the character and like the animated um um animated kind of like energy of it there's so much going here and like i'm like this could have been a pixar movie you know what i mean like this could have been uh something along those lines we should be it still could probably we should be looking like right now in an alternate universe timeline you and me on this show we're talking about how part three is in development right now oh my god the movie part you know like the the final part in the trilogy is in development oh my god ah these these shorts are so amazing i would say the overwatch two short is one of those that i showed to tim and he was like oh man i watched that shit i don't even give a damn about overwatch but at the end of this it is like full avengers style like you know on your left type style goosebumps you know like the hype that they bring is amazing yeah i would love to see them get back to more of that lore Story number four, Capcom shares a first look at Resident Evil Survival Unit, a mobile strategy game.
46:04Blessing Adeoye Jr.:This is Jordan Midler at Video Games Chronicle. Capcom has shared the first look at Resident Evil Survival Unit. The strategy game, which is coming to mobile later this year, will star Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine. Resident Evil Survival Unit is being developed by Joy City, who did 3-on-3 Freestyle Rebound, and Aniplex, who did Demon Slayer, the Hinokami Chronicles 2. Both developers will work in close collaboration with Capcom. Quote, set in a parallel universe, the game presents an original storyline that builds upon the Resident Evil world while diverging from the original series, according to Capcom.
46:40Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Quote, players will enjoy a deep, immersive strategy experience that blends real-time decision-making with the thrill of survival, end quote. The game will also feature base-building mechanics and appearances from other Resident Evil favorites, like the weapons vendor. there needs to be a term i i i need like help with a term or phrase to describe the phenomenon of companies biggest ips just being i guess adapted so much that like you have more bad entries than good entries you know what i mean because like maybe that's a bad way to park yeah but i feel like for video games right like i feel like resident evil even though resident the evil i'll put it like this has massive amounts of bangers yes i'll put it like this right capcom they're a banger factory they put out bangers for days even when they put out a miss it's still pretty dope you know i mean like they can put out exo primal and i can still be like hey but that shit's kind of fire yeah you know like it underwhelmed it kind of came and went right but like that shit was kind of cool they can put out kunitsugami and it had to be a thing of like no but like it's still kind of a cult classic it's actually a really good video game it's actually And when it comes to Resident Evil, like, obviously the mainline and Resident Evil games nowadays are great.
47:57Blessing Adeoye Jr.:But then they have, like, these side RE-verse, right? This Resident Evil fucking mobile strategy game. Like, any Resident Evil multiplayer game in the last decade and a half. That's, like, utterly, like, not to Capcom standards. I feel like there's a word for it. Because I look at, like, Sonic the Hedgehog is kind of the same way. With less quality mainline entries. But you get what I mean. Pokemon. like pokemon has gotten so good and so popular that now like its popularity is kind of tainted what would the bad ones be in pokemon scarlet i guess pokemon doesn't have like that many bad ones but i feel like as pokemon like even um what was the one before scarlet pokemon legends arceus i know people liked it but that was like a damn this kind of runs like shit kind of situation.
48:45Yeah, but I wouldn't say that... I think you're inviting some demons into your bedroom if you're talking about that negatively about Pokemon. I would watch your ass. I would be careful right there because I think Scarlet and Violet and Arceus were just victims of bad hardware and rushed timelines, but I think at their core they're still good video games. I think resident evil is in a different maybe we just call it like you're getting raccoon seated you're getting the you're getting uh no never mind that's that's probably too dirty i was gonna say cap uh have calmed capcommed yeah yeah but you're definitely right there are a lot of ip that get punished by like i know these are very introduced maybe maybe this is me
49:41Blessing Adeoye Jr.:maybe this is my point falling apart a bit but like i even look at horizon like zero dawn which isn't like it's not like horizons had like terrible entries but i think playstation looks at horizon is like all right this is the popular one that like sold million sold millions of vr and lego so yeah let's put it in vr let's put it in lego let's make a multiplayer thing and like people are underwhelmed by all this shit yeah like when you're so multiplayer games gonna be so when you're so popular that you're forced to have spinoffs that suck like that's the point i'm making okay okay when you're so popular that like you have other games released in your franchise that start tanking down the entire quality of it youtube comments i would love uh i would love for the best suggestions because i i you know i look at my i look at myself last time i'm kind of like a marketing genius you know yeah like you know i have you know great puns great wordplay but i'm kind of blanking right now i would love to come up with it i would love to help you come up with this term it's like you know if i'm looking at wrestling has been watching a lot of wrestling a lot in the last year.
50:38Blessing Adeoye Jr.:You know what I mean? There's like the story of Roman Reigns. Actually, this is kind of backwards because Roman Reigns started off as like people hated him and then got better. Maybe Jey Uso. Where Jey Uso was like really fun to watch and people loved Jey Uso, but then they put the championship belt on him and people turned on him. You get exposed when you're getting too much FaceTime. Yeah, you get too much FaceTime. Oversaturation, over-franchise, Cap Cucked, overexposed, Raccoon Shitty. Raccoon Shitty is good. I mean, I guarantee you... RE-Dundancy is pretty fun. I guarantee you there's a lot of other IP that are like this, but Resident Evil, I definitely think you're right in that this is one that I think of the most.
51:20Like, if this were a kind of feudy question, or if this was some sort of Game Showdown question, and you were like, contestants, what's an IP that was so good they inevitably started making a bunch of shit, like, products based on it?
51:35Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Yeah. I would say Resident Evil. Resident Evil would be one of those, yeah. Resident Evil, I'll have to think hard about some of these other ones. Because then you have to imply that it was good to start with. So I want to say Sonic. Which Sonic, the first three Sonics, I think are objectively like, those are great games, and then you kind of tank a little bit and then stay that way for decades. We'll think on this. We'll think on this, Chad. Also, Matt Rocks in chat, earlier I said, you know, I was watching a lot of wrestling. He said a lot of wrestling, you know, quote a lot of wrestling, just wwe fuck off mad ross that's like me i can say like i've been playing a lot of video games they're all nintendo games it's still video games also they're watching been watching a lot of uh basketball oh but you haven't been watching the australian league yeah yeah it's the biggest thing what am i supposed to do um andy resident evil survival unit doesn't feel like one of them big resident evil doesn't bless but if i wanted something small just like it say the tiniest news I wanted to know about.
52:31Blessing Adeoye Jr.:Where would I go? You'd go to our last story, the We News channel, where we cover all the small news items you need to know about. Last story is We News.
