In short
This Kinda Funny Games Daily episode (Aug 7, 2026) covers four main gaming news stories plus hosts’ quick game chatter. Topic 1: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick defends GTA 6’s $80 price (and $100 premium) as “phenomenal value,” arguing AAA costs haven’t kept up with inflation and that Take-Two aims to over-deliver rather than maximize price. He also says GTA 6 pre-orders are “exceptional” and “unprecedented.” Topic 2: Zelnick won’t rule out a future GTA 6 disc release, while insisting discs “don’t really make sense for the consumer” and claiming 90%+ of Take-Two sales are digital; he denies leak concerns drove the no-disc decision. Topic 3: Gears of War E-Day limited beta already hits the series’ Steam all-time record (14,331 concurrent), even before its first weekend; full release is Oct 6. Topic 4: Marvel Rivals launches on PC with a low Steam rating (~44) and reports of heavy CPU/RAM usage; Arc System Works says it’s investigating.

0:37Tim Gettys:Oh, what is up, everybody? And welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Friday, August 7th, 2026. I'm your host for today, Roger McCorney. It's Mikey. It's Mikey today. So Mike and Roger, Friday morning together. Hold my hand. My hands are so cold. I need your, I need it. I need it. I'm always hot. Always hot. Except for my belly. Always cold. That's weird. Is it getting colder now that the hernia is out? Well, we'll find out today. We will find out today. Today at 2 o 'clock. I don't like that everything's content, but we will find out today. It's goddamn it. Today at 2 o 'clock, we find out.
1:11Has the chat been wrong this whole time, or are they right? Well, I don't think that's how that works. Yeah, that's how that works. No, I don't think the ultrasound person will tell you it. Oh, yeah, of course they will. Okay, again, you have not been to an ultrasound. I've gone many ultrasounds. What, are they going to just scan me? Yes. she's the person the person they're gonna see if there's a hole in my abdominal wall
1:31Tim Gettys:like that it's just it's just a no the person the person here's the thing yeah they know like they've been doing ultrasounds for a very long time they understand what these things look like right so you just kind of have to go from like what their eyes and like what they're like kind of when they go like this when they say your abdominal wall people really fast yeah like hold on uh but no your doctor will tell you what's going on there so yeah you will not necessarily know 100 well i have full confidence in dr ryan saying that i'm invincible and i'll be you have paid him under the table you'll pay it by the table let you know mikey how you doing how we feeling uh roger it's friday i'm feeling good i wrapped up shadow of the colossus this week i had a ton of fun with that gamer i'm just i'm looking for my next adventure i'm excited for the weekend roger yeah it's good for the weekend what are you looking for i got a lot of work stuff to do.
2:23I want to play World of Warcraft. All I ever want to do is just play World of Warcraft. I mean, you got me busy, Roger. We got Skyrim coming up at the end of the month. And I'm excited for Skyrim, Rod. I got to relive the moment. I don't have anything for you to do. Well, I'm going to restart the game multiple times like I always do. That's what people do with Skyrim. Okay. I just like that you say that that's work. That's just a normal weekend. That's what you end up doing. How about yourself, Roger?
2:47Tim Gettys:Not much. Last night I booted up the Gears E-Day little beta going on there. The closed-ish beta. The ones for pre-orders and Xbox Game Pass. Had a great time in the RG Ally. Runs fine. Runs 45 FPS. Looking a little blurry on there, but I'm able to do some wall hopping. Man, the gamers in this actual beta, they're gamers. Now they're here. It is all Nasher all the time. You don't see one chainsaw out. You don't see nothing. It is just Nasher all the time. Wall bouncing. It is upsetting, but it's fun. It's a good time. And I've also been playing And Fields of Mystery 1.0, which is just so good.
3:22Tim Gettys:What an incredible video game. I would love for you to try out one of these games. Like a Stardew Valley. A Fields of Mystery is a great one to jump into. Do you have any interest in any of that? Put it on my list. No, it's not high on my list. I never thought about them. But like maybe one day. I mean, you also didn't think about Zelda and Link. Remember that? Now I can't stop thinking about the movie. Young Rock casting? Young Rock casting? Medium Rock. Because he's like the older Rock. He was fantastic. He was very good in that show. He was great. That's a good show Thank you Roger for saying that People don't give enough credit for the Young Rock It is a very funny premise too This is the Medium Rock This is exactly how he looks Medium Rock right there But yeah it's pretty good Also Young Sheldon got a lot of shit Not bad too I've seen clips of that That's like one you just leave on Netflix just keeps running It's fine We have a lot to talk about You didn't try that one game though What game?
4:17I'm mad at you about the Fields of Mystery of Murders. It's not out yet. No, I think it is out. I don't think it is. You don't even know the name of it. I know. It's unfortunate.
4:27Tim Gettys:Chat, what's the game that he's talking about? It's the horror, Fields of Mystery-like, Stardew Valley-like game that is coming out, I think in the next few years. Grave Seasons. Grave Seasons. It's not out yet. Yeah, I don't have it. I will try it. I told you four hours I will put into it, and I will let you know if it's good. and if it's if it doesn't work for me then you owe somebody a pizza not me yeah we'll figure that out uh but you know what we will figure out right now kind of funny games daily if you're watching live be a part of the show by super chatting youtube.com slash kind of funny games we couldn't do without our patreon producers around patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you so much carl jacobs omega buster delay me the som twining and lax nomad for now let's begin with whatever for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news five stories today
5:25story number one and number two as well uh this is all coming from a uh investors meeting with the ceo of take two so we're gonna go through a few of his quotes and his fun little things he's talking about. Here's why GTA 6 is$80, but NBA 2K27 is only$70. This is from Zach Zweizen over at Kotaku. When Grand Theft Auto 6 launches later this year, it will cost$80, or$100 for the premium edition that comes with extra content. However, other games from Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, aren't also being sold for$80. Why? Well, according to the Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, it's because the company doesn't set out to charge as much as it can, but rather to set a price that still provides, quote, phenomenal value, despite GTA 6 hype levels being so high that they could have charged way more.
6:26On August 7th, Zelnick took part in Take-Two's Q1 Financial Year 27 earnings call and took questions from investors who as you might expect were particularly interested in the upcoming coming release of gta 6 during the call zelnick was asked why take that's a wwe entrance oh okay that's his own right there uh uh take two was going to sell gta 6 for 80 while its other triple a games like nba 2k 27 sells for only 70 dollars quote look We have said this many, many times, said Zelnick during the call. Our goal is to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them. And the truth is, the real cost of a AAA video game is a whole lot lower today than it was 20 years ago.
7:19Pricing has not kept up with the pace of inflation. Our goal is to continue to over-deliver to consumers because how you feel about any experience is the intersection of the experience itself and what you paid for it. According to Zelnick, GTA 6 is clearly worth$80 or more. Adding, to say what that we expect GTA 6 will be an incredible bargain as far as experiences go is a gross understatement, says Zelnicka, because Rockstar Games is known for over delivering. Our goal is not to maximize price. So in this case, what we have decided to make is a whole make. Sorry, what we have decided to do makes a whole lot of sense.
8:04In fact, it sounds like there was the possibility that Rockstar in Take-Two could have charged even more than$80 for the standard edition based on how excited people are to buy and play GTA VI. Quote, I think that Rockstar feels that offering phenomenal value at$80 makes sense for some consumers, said Zelnick when asked a different question during the call. And then offering incremental value at a modestly increased price makes sense for other consumers. And, you know, given the hype around this title, I think we could have made any number of other pricing choices. And it seems that it seems the price point isn't scaring away gamers with Take-Two revealing ahead of the call that GTA 6 has had exceptional pre-order numbers.
8:51Something Zelnik reiterated during the call with investors on Friday morning. Quote, our pre-orders are exceptional. No one has ever seen anything like this before a Take-Two, said Zelnik. They are so unprecedented that we don't know how they will translate into sales. We genuinely don't know.
9:11Tim Gettys:A lot of things, a lot of corporate things. He's very happy with the price. He wants to give value, yada, yada, yada. What do you think about that? I mean, yeah, we kind of know this, Roger. We've had a lot of conversations before of what they could have priced this game at. It is interesting to see them land at the$80 price tag. Of course, there is the collector's edition for that add-on bonus stuff that will get you up towards the$100 price tag. But it is an interesting conversation to at least ask him, right, of like, why did we land on this price? You could have done anything. We all would have nodded and smiled, and the pre-order still would have been exceptional.
9:45But$80 to deliver a high-quality product to all of us is great, right? When we look back at 2K, though, of course, you know, we might say we charge$70 for some games. NBA 2K has two other collector's editions for$100 and$150. So this is pretty much, hey, we just don't have microtransactions in this game yet, or else we would have charged you out the past.
10:08Tim Gettys:Your ass is lucky we didn't give you a $200 version. That's coming up right there. We're happy to jump on gamers and charge them $150 for a collective edition of NBA TK. So we're actually the good guys right now, because we could have been way worse, guys. At$80, I'm the greatest over here, yeah. Strauss is talking about something also in there that we've talked about many a times right that like if you look at the pricing of video game and where games and where it was if you look back at there's those uh incredible like toys r us uh little magazines or whatever uh little what do you call those flyers that you would look at and it's like a video game was 50 60 70 whatever dollars and then you were to do the inflation math that would be a lot more than it is uh then uh video games should be, you know,$100,$120 in comparison to what they were before.
10:57Tim Gettys:So yeah, the inflation of video games and AAA gaming has not kept up. But also, you know, people aren't getting paid more, right? So it doesn't feel as though this is a bargain, right? For us, any$70,$80 video game. Sure, if you were to do the pure math, it's like, okay, yeah, video games should be$100. So technically, these video games are cheaper than they should be, yada, yada. But like, again, no one's making more money than we were a few years ago, right? Like, you know, no one's better off than, you know, our parents' generation, right? So he's right, but then he's also wrong in the sense that he's talking about the actual inflation dollars that the consumers have in their pockets.
11:34Tim Gettys:But yeah, I don't know. $80 is exactly where I kind of expected this thing to be. So I also believe that this is probably, what, over a billion dollars in terms of a budget when it comes to a video game and it's going to be the one video game that people buy across um you know there's gonna be so many people that just buy gta 6 this year it's gonna be there's gonna be people that don't even buy call of duty this year they're just gonna buy gta 6 like this is all eyes on this so it when it comes to it like honestly like yeah that the i wouldn't have been surprised if they looked around they said hey hundred dollars two hundred dollars for this thing right but you know they could have done it so eighty dollars honestly like the fact that they aren't the first big AAA developer to say, hey, we're doing$80.
12:19Tim Gettys:And it was Nintendo that looked around and said, hey, we're doing that for Mario Kart. It's kind of funny to me. But yeah, it makes sense. I don't think there's anything here that I'm like, oh. No, nothing crazy. I mean, easy to sit up on Mount High with Rockstar behind you. Be like, we got a great team here who's going to deliver an exceptional product, right? And then be able to put a bunch of word soup out there. We're going to deliver a great product for our consumers out there. And we want to meet them at an exceptional price. i'm also i'm also not clutching pearls for this because it's like gta 6 right it's a game that i know for a fact i'm gonna put infinite amount of hours over the next decade right gta 5 is a game i still go back to all the time and that doesn't include online we don't know if it includes online right but if it does that is an insane quote-unquote value and in the sense of like i'm also a video editor i have software for like hundreds of dollars that is a fucking like motion graphics package right like that's the idea of software being worth you know what 80 for software means to me like it's gta 6 like yeah i would definitely pay that for that and they'll get their second wave 80 is just to start just they're gonna get you the shark cards when online and microtransactions and shark cards come out like you said will they charge for online will online be a free product will it be included in this what is the online going to be and then yeah they'll get their second wave yeah and that's the yeah that's a separate question right like okay well is online its own paid thing right is that a separate thing is it part of this right i don't know that's until then gta online will continue to produce a lot of money a lot of money they will probably even see a second wave on gta online when this game comes out i'm thinking about getting into red dead online a friend of mine was messaging me and she was like hey red dead online you know and he's currently playing red dead you could call him up and ask him you would never play with me he likes online games he would not with us not with us uh story number two continuing talking about strauss zelnick and his funny little comments uh take two ceo strauss zelnick won't rule out gta 6 on disc at some point insist decision had nothing to do with concerns over leaks this from wesley ian pool pool over at ign one of the big questions following the shock decision not to release gta 6 on disc at launch is whether Rockstar will ever release a disc version of the game.
14:35In a new interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick, boss of Rockstar parent company Take-Two, refused to rule it out. Speaking today, following the release of Take-Two's Q1 2027 financials, Zelnick defended the company's decision not to release GTA 6 on a disc, insisting when it comes to big games, discs, quote, don't really make sense for the consumer. And in a new interview with IGN, Zelnik doubled down on the comments to the investment community, confirming more than 90 % of Take-Two's sales are digital. Quote, in order to play video games, you need to be connected today, Zelnik added. So everyone's connected.
15:14So it's just a matter of the most efficient way to get the title into people's hands. That's the situation for the launch of GTA 6. And what about the longer-term view. We asked Zelnick if he could rule out the possibility of GTA 6 ever releasing on disc. Here's his response. Quote, I wouldn't rule out anything at this stage of the game. What we've announced so far is what we're doing at the moment, but we are always open-minded. After Rockstar confirmed the GTA 6 no-disc situation back in June, some wondered if it was in part about preventing leaks in the run-up to the game's launch having no physical discs loaded with the game data will help with rockstar's near pathological secrecy reese elliott head of market analysts at alinea analytics told ign at the time it also ensured game data only unlocks at launch meaning no damaging early leaks from copies quote lost off the back of a truck GTA 6 has already seen one major pre-launch leak, and with fans poring over every last snippet of information about the game, it's easy to see why Rockstar would want to keep control over every last detail.
16:30However, speaking to IGN today, Zelnik denied security had anything to do with the decision. No, Zelnik responded when asked if concerns over GTA 6 potentially leaking if it were released on disc factored into Take-Two's thinking in any way. I completely doubt that I don't really that part that part I don't I don't agree I feel like that
16:50Tim Gettys:has to be part of the equation in some way even if it's not the number one reason that's a very interesting thing for him to just point blank saying no to because GTA has a history of leaking and having moments where people just find find discs off the back of the truck and stuff yeah these are like two great questions that you'd love to ask of course and I'm glad that we're getting a little inside baseball with it but it is interesting that he just says no right I would have liked a little bit deeper dive but it's if i was to take this guy at his word it sounds like yeah leaks weren't the reason why we're doing this right we are going back to back days now of some of your favorite game publishers capcom and now you know take two saying hey 90 of our game sales are digital we're moving away from discs and we've had a lot of disc conversation lately about like we're at the moment now where we are moving into the all digital future and leaving that behind and now sony capcom you know these are teams that are all saying like hey everybody's digital now it's like we're moving there right and so it is interesting on that side the not because of leaks if i take him at his word yeah i understand it also i think there's a lot more to that right i do agree with you roger i mean it's just a i'm sure it was part of the conversation yeah yeah i mean gta 6 is going to be the biggest selling video game potentially of all time right This is going to be a massive moment, and it's a lot of discs to make if you're going to be making those physical, and you know that all those people have the ability to download it.
18:13Tim Gettys:So, of course, you're giving the cut to GameStop. You're giving the cut to these retailers, but there's also the cut of, hey, we need to produce these discs and make that happen. So I think that is the number one calculus in their head of, like, we're about to make a fuckton of these boxes. What can we do to, okay, we can cut back, you know, five whatever dollars. I forgot the actual math breakdown that Jason Schreier has done of like how much each of these discs cost in the manufacturing of them. But that's probably millions and millions of dollars that they're saving in their pocket. That is just they can recoup later on.
18:43Tim Gettys:But yeah, I do think that last sentence of like maybe it's just him trying to downplay the idea of their security. But like, come on, like there was going to be a GTA 6 copy that was going to get leaked. That was 100 % going to happen. And so it is, I think honestly, if he came out and said that was the number one reason why we're doing it, I think that that would be like go over better with gamers. Cause I think the gamers would be like, okay, we get that. We know, understand that people, it sucks when fucking Lego Batman gets stolen off the back of a truck and then someone has it. And then now all the game is spoiled.
19:13Tim Gettys:Right. Especially GTA six. You want that surprise. So I'm interested that he didn't use that as like a weird, like a scapegoat at the very least. Oh, we just didn't want to like, we just didn't want to spoil it for you guys. We love you guys so much. We want to make sure that you have a good experience with it. um i i'm just i'm particularly more bummed than anything even the playstation stuff even like all the other uh non-physical the moments where we're taking away physical games this one bums me out the most where it's like gta 6 is the moment where i do want a physical i desperately want a physical version of gta 6 i mean my main memories with gta are opening up even when i'm not playing the game like opening up this thing having the disc having the book poster with the on the back for me it's always like i open it up and then i i still have i think i have my copy in the base of my mom's house where it's like you open it up and it's just packed with cheat codes i just would put i would use that as like a binder almost like to me that of course the box is still going to be there but like is it going to have the poster is it going to have i would wager probably not i think it's probably it's gonna be an empty box with a with a fucking little piece of paper they all are empty boxes now yeah it just sucks i mean the most you get is the piece paper with the download code now but yeah those days are gone roger you should open up the ps2 or xbox box and have the gta poster with the map on the back right now they're going to charge you an extra 35 dollars for something like that right and so yeah we are at the end of that and it is a sad one for sure roger but it's all about profits it's all about putting that money up and keeping it going and so yeah if you can cut manufacturing on all this that's the move for sure just breaks my heart man it breaks my heart that this wasn't like again the we talked about and this is a different situation but i remember i think it was the last kfgd that you and i were on where we talked about um was it the company that did um stellar blade and how they made that a that shitty ai video where it's like my point was you have infinite not infinite money but you have a lot of money you made a lot of money after that last game you can do anything with that money and i i look at 2k i'm like you have infinite money here you have gta you have fucking nba like you guys could have made this happen you kind of you could have been the last hurrah of like we're doing physical because you guys want it even if it's a limited edition thing even if that is the 200 extra special edition like that is the frustrating thing for me as somebody who wants to see at least the hardcore gamers in the comments the people that are actually buying it that 10 right like i want them to have that thing just at least have it right well i find it interesting that we don't have a limited edition like out there and available right so when we talk about gta 5 though which i think the limited edition was pretty bad right we got a money lock box a black light map that would show you fun spots on the map and then a hat right so it's like not the best value for your limited edition and not the coolest limited edition but like it is interesting that we're here at gta 6 the biggest property on earth and there is no some sort of physical statue some sort of nothing thing do you think maybe the netflix premiere we'll see something maybe i i i don't think so because i feel like you would have said that earlier i feel like you would want people to spend as much money as humanly possible asap right i don't think you'd be like hey everybody spend your money on the hundred dollar version also by the way two months later now here's another 200 and then they're going to cancel those versions and try to get that right you know what i mean like i think this is it like unless there's maybe a different collector i don't even know i do do like i guess you could just have another drop whatever because it's GTA, but that's not really a thing that companies do as much, where it's like, hey, here's a new collector's edition of a game that's already out.
22:42Well, you know, there's going to be people who buy twice. And there's also new consoles. We always forget that. There's always new consoles. They can always come out with something later on and just say, hey, you wanted that game disc? You wanted that box? Guess what, Roger? We're going to sell it to you again.
22:55Tim Gettys:Yeah, I mean, we are literally at the end of the PS5 generation and the series generation. We're going into this next generation. That next generation will not have disc drives. so i think that that's we're never getting discs for those ones but it's it that would probably be in my mind if you re-release it then you were like hey here's the physical statue because you already have the game digitally so here's something to try to sell them up on but yeah i don't know everything zelnick is saying like i just don't i don't believe especially like the going up at the top here when he said something about uh trying to bring uh to meet the consumer uh sorry he says don't really make sense for the consumer.
23:32Tim Gettys:And it's like, yeah, but also this is GTA 6. I really believe that GTA 6 is the one unique space where people would go out of their way to have that physical. And I think that that 90 % would actually not be 90%. I think it would be a little bit higher. It would be 50%, but it would have been a higher chunk of people wanting that physical. It's an interesting one because, yeah, we've talked about GTA 6 and Rockstar and Take-Two and how they're poised to do anything they want here. And their choice right now is to hit the best profit margins possible, right? Sell at a price tag that everyone would jump on.
24:03And on top of that, stick to digital that everyone will jump on and they'll get the most profits out of that. They could have done anything, Roger. They could have charged$200. They could have done only physical. But no, they're going for the most profitability here.
24:17Tim Gettys:Yeah, makes sense. It just sucks. I'm more in my childhood moments of having the little map. That's dead now. You truly think that we're not going to have the map inside that thing. inside of what Roger there's nothing I mean there's going to be a there's going to be a physical version of the box that people are going to be able to buy a GameStop no that will just have a piece of paper with a code in it that's production that's money that's pennies on the dollar that could go towards this company they're not going to do that but I do miss I miss the map Roger trust me I want all of that but the way that we've seen everything go in the way of the world that no that will be a piece of paper with i don't know why that seven digits on it i don't know why i like i still had it in my heart that i just never really thought about it critically until this moment where i just assumed that we would have no disc but we would have the map i don't know why i assumed that we had the map you think so man that really hurt me just now that was crazy man fuck it that sucks dude well i need to figure out my life now yeah because then they got to hire an artist to make the cool gta cover art yeah it's put it on one side of the poster then they got to hire another guy to make the map and it's like we're not doing any of that we got ai yeah do we ai will print the number for you get out of my way all right while i recover from that let's talk a little bit about some ads this episode's brought to you by factor the last couple months have been wild here at kind of funny with travel and events and when your routine takes a hit it can be easy to get off track thankfully with factors chef crafted dietitian designed And ready-to-eat meals, getting back to eating right is easy without having to choose between real food and convenience.

Let's not go to story number three. Let's talk to you, Mikey. Tell me some super chats. Roger, let's jump all around because we got a lot of good. We have some heartbreaking ones I'm going to pick you up with. We have Armando writes in and says, birthday tax just turned 27.
27:57Go team purple. Happy birthday, big cat. You're 27. I'm 27. You're 27. I'm 27. You're so wise, Roger. You're such a safe, wise guy. I know everything, bro. I know everything. Ask me a question. I know it. A hand writes in and says, is that 92 % just a full game purchase or adding in DLC and other cosmetic transactions?
28:18Tim Gettys:Of the, of they're saying the physical, uh, he, he said like the 92 % of players are choosing digital over physical. So, Oh, okay. I mean, I, I don't know. I, I, I'm sure they're, they're fudging the numbers a little bit, but also if, if it was actually that profitable for them to be using physical, they would just be doing physical. So I don't think it's that crazy that it would be around 90 % of people. Needles One comes in with the Super Chat and says, we have to come to terms that we peaked with the Halo 3 Collector's Edition in 2007. Shit's been rough ever since. Can we pull that up, Kevin?
28:54You know what? That's crazy. I have it. Okay. It's very near and dear to my heart. It's very important to me. Yeah, I want to see it. And you know what? You might be right. The Halo 3 Collector's Edition. That might be the best collector's edition ever done or might be the last great collector's edition because I think we went to a lot of plastic afterwards and nothing really gave, hey, you're getting a lot of bang and quality for your buck as the Halo 3. This, the helmet that didn't fit. Well, yeah, you weren't supposed to wear it. It was supposed to cover your game cases. Hold on. You weren't allowed to wear it.
29:28Reach was better. See, I like Reach and I have Reach, but they got the little flimsy toy guns. And I had no, it's just a big plastic mountain. I never got a collector's edition as a kid.
Read the full transcript
29:38Tim Gettys:Oh my God. I never got one. Yeah, I know. Cause those are so much more money. Yeah. I never got that GTA money bag. Oh, it was just a helmet. That was it. Yeah. That's all it is. Oh, okay. Gotcha. Oh, okay. Lift it up like that. And then it has, was the cover black. For what? Halo three. Cause I, cause for some reason, my copy of Halo three had like a black, like very, yes. Yeah. So I, for some reason had the, from GameStop, I got like the, the used version and it was that someone bought the collector's edition and then traded it in within the year which is kind of crazy so yeah that was always my thing and i would i would talk to my friends like hey everybody is your halo 3 cover black and they'd be like no what are you talking about dub to kaiser's right who doesn't need 19 inches of venom we all needed 19 inches of venom that was a really good doug mon putting up a good point i think was the black ops one the black ops with the rc car oh the rc car that was that was not monroe for two yeah rc car was sick that was the moment that was the RC car.
30:35Tim Gettys:It was an actual, it was the RC XD or whatever. Yeah. So they made a physical version of that and had that. That was pretty fucking dope. Yeah. We've gone past that. Yeah. We're about profitability here. About just cutting everything, getting real to it. You get nothing. None of that. None of that. Not even just a bunch of shit plastic that you're going to throw away in the garbage. You get nothing. Science Dog official writes, let me just shorten this for you, Roger. It's because you'll buy it, nerds, is what he wants to say. You're not wrong. Yeah, exactly. you're completely not wrong um sky writes in and says they are charging a hundred dollars for the full game lol meaning hey you know they call it the collector's edition whatever they're calling that for the extra 20 to get you all those shops there i want that though i mean yeah yeah everybody wants that the issue the issue is is like you see it and it's like it's sick it's the coolest images that you see of the entire game it's a very interesting one because yeah when you launch a game and you're not doing early access it's awesome are they doing early access i don't know no they're not doing early so if you're not if you're launching the game you're not doing the early access tactic you don't have online to sell shark cards with right which is their bread and butter as i brought up with nba 2k right it's like hey how we get to the 150 dollar uh price tag is because they're selling you a bunch of virtual currency they're selling you all the season passes well rockstar doesn't do that right and so like what are they banking on oh we're gonna hide four shops or whatever the number is behind the paywall that's pretty wild yeah i didn't realize it was the shops that they were putting behind the paywall i thought it was just tattoo shop clothing shop no really barbershops yeah they all have their own unique stuff oh that sucks i really thought it was just like hey you just open up your closet and now you have all these things no no no no roger oh wow how will you go to the electric venom snake bite tattoo parlor shop how will i you won't unless you pay them$20 that's why sky is saying hey it's$100 for the full game yeah so you're you're missing out on the content there you know gotta pay up anything else uh we have a bunch we'll save them for the end of the show we got a lot let's talk about some good news some big news story number three gears of war e days steam player peak has already passed the series all-time record and it's still only in limited beta this from con sarin over at games radar plus the first leg of gears before e days beta has only just clawed its way out of the ground and it's putting up some strong steam numbers already the gears before e day open beta's first portion runs from august 6th yesterday to august 10th on the xbox series x and s consoles and pc and it seems to be doing quite well out of the gate according to steam db the beta managed to get 14 ,331 players chainsaw gunning and wall hopping at the same time and we haven't even reached its first weekend where multiplayer games usually balloon mind you that that's already the best steam concurrent player count the series has ever seen last year's re-remastered gears of war reloaded reached just under 5 ,000 concurrence on steam and uh the strategy game uh gears tactics hoarded 7351 players totally forget that game exists by the way that game is really good i need to play it actually actually i'm really interested in playing that and the previous record holder gears 5 peaked with just over 10 000 people it's also worth noting that the gears award e-day beta is currently in early access meaning it's only available to players who have pre-ordered the game or game pass ultimate subscribers who wouldn't have access to the steam version anyway so basically all of these are just people that have pre-ordered the game.
34:14Putting up the series' best numbers before the general public had a chance to shotgun chunks of meat off subterranean alien bugs is a very good sign for the prequel's prospects. The game comes out in full on October 6th on Series X and S PC and Game Pass Ultimate. Mike, have you jumped into this new beta yet so far? No, I haven't jumped into the beta. I know it started yesterday, so we have a weekend of the beta but it's the closed beta because you got to get into it yes you got it you have game pass ultimate or you have to pre-order exactly and so yeah these are positive numbers someone brought up why we're talking about steam numbers right and they're like you're talking about steam numbers because we're talking about xbox as a platform and what they're choosing with exclusivity and now that gears is the exclusive title right but like it's also on pc you want to make sure that that player base over on pc is doing its thing yes because we are closing the walls once again for a platform that is having a lot of struggles in third place and is dying for players to jump onto it and dying to just stay alive so like yeah yeah we're talking about these numbers because you want to see a healthy strong launch for those people that are buying they're buying the game over there and uh yeah hopefully this uh will be good next weekend and really when it comes down to it at launch yeah because we also have the open beta coming out in uh august 13th to 17th because you can see those numbers go crazy from there.
35:39Tim Gettys:Yeah, I think that there's hype for this one. I think that there's an energy for Gears of War E-Day right now that there wasn't for Gears of War 4 or 5. I don't know how big it's going to be in terms of the real number that Xbox wants and probably needs for a team like the Coalition to kind of thrive and continue to make games like this. But I do feel that energy of like, okay, we're back. Gears is back in a way that Gears of War 4, the game that should have been the moment where we're all back, really wasn't like i think that that newer kind of trilogy that they were trying to make and then ended up not finishing didn't really hit those moments and now we're i think people just wanted it's been enough time people want to see dom and marcus together yeah of course and yeah i think we're i think i have a good feeling about this one doing well enough especially you know i don't know if this is maybe this scene numbers are higher because the playstation audience is now not part of it so now if you don't have a xbox you have to kind of go to your pc and kind of figure that out but um yeah i mean it's interesting to see it's nice to see that but also kind of sad to see how low those fucking steam numbers were i mean that is that's got a pre-order right so it's like there is time game pass you can just jump on that monthly subscription to play your game and then go from there we'll see it's going to be a very jam-packed fall as well roger right like we're talking about games like control you have star wars zero company uh fire emblem coming out there GTA the next month, right?
37:02Call of Duty, yeah. Yeah, Call of Duty. So Gears is going to kind of get caught in the crossfires of the middle of this, but there is a market for the shooter genre. There is a place for a quality shooter that people want, right? And we are, you know, when we talk about Xbox, they are holding on to the nostalgia here of like, hey, do you remember Halo? Do you remember Gears? Like, they're still good. We want you to play it. And a lot of people have moved on from that. So it will be interesting going back with the prequel and saying, hey can this jump back up into people's lives and want make them want to jump in a clone to
37:34Tim Gettys:the chat says gears is nostalgia and a sea of nostalgia and i think that's a great point right because like i think we're we're we're peak nostalgia if anything we're over the hill when it comes to nostalgia star wars came back star trek everything is back everything is back and now it's all old again like so now we have this is the second go around it off of us trying to get nostalgia from the gears franchise and get back at it and i think it just comes back to like is this a core competent shooter that people want to be at? I think I do think the biggest interest that I have with this open beta specifically is if it captures enough of a newer audience to get into this.
38:08Tim Gettys:But I also am fearful because you go into this closed beta right now, closed this beta, and it is wall hot. It is, it is wall bouncing. It is, it is tough. It is a very unique multiplayer. It's very unique. It is not very welcoming to newcomers, especially when we go into weeks afterwards and you are with the diehards, right so it's like you gears has always been unique of gears is a great game it's a lot of fun it comes as a full package with a lot of great offerings but about one month to three months in it is the best of the best the most try hard people there and it's not really a casual fun environment so it's tough to get new people in we'll see where this goes but i mean the game so far looks quality i like the new 12 person horde mode i think that will add some fun to especially a market that likes the pve genre hell divers you know arc raiders isn't there but it's kind of that vibe as well so like people are into you know this new pve renaissance once again that want that and don't want to get sweaty and pvp and so gears offers that yeah is a little too little too late though we will see everybody we're talking about a little too little marvel story number four marvel token launches to an abysmal 44 rating on steam quote they should have pushed the pc release back until they figured this out this is from kenneth shepherd over at kotaku i guess it's not too surprising that marvel token fighting souls arc system works a new anime fighter pitting marvel heroes against each other is having a rough launch on pc the game's open beta struggled on the platform, and that was only a couple weeks prior to yesterday's launch.
39:46The bad word of mouth has seemingly caught up to it, as the game has launched with just a little over half of the day one players on Steam that Dragon Ball FighterZ, also developed by Arc System Works, had launched in 2018. Tokon's player count on Steam landed at 24 ,498 on launch day, compared to the 44 ,303 peak that FighterZ had in 2018. This is a Sony game and thus is also on PlayStation 5, so it stands to reason there's a not insignificant number of people playing on console. But those who have played on Steam have been reporting issues and dropping low user reviews on the platform. Since the open beta late last month, players have been reporting the game is oddly very demanding on PC, which some have theorized may be in part due to the game requiring a PlayStation Network sign-in, and thus running more back-end programs that are eating up CPU and memory.
40:46Kotaku's own tests of the open beta, however, show the game is just demanding on its own. Quote, For instance, the game often hogged upwards of 95 % of my CPU and occasionally as much as 5 ,000 megabytes of my pc's physical memory lewis parker wrote for kotaku of his experience with the beta six separate versions of the playstation pc sdk runtime application also booted when the starting when starting the game although these had very minimal impacts on my cpu and memory now the game is out and it doesn't sound like performance troubles have improved much in the two weeks since the testing phase uh quote the game is horribly is horribly optimized and they should have pushed the pc release back to figure this out a steam user reads uh this morning arc system works put out a statement thanking fans for playing launch day and noted it is investigating problems with token's pc version uh they write token warriors thank you for an amazing launch day seeing you all jump into the fight has been unreal we're aware that some pc players are experiencing performance issues the team is actively investigating these reports please keep your feedback coming it helps see you in the game mikey you played a little bit yesterday
42:01Tim Gettys:we have really nice computers though yeah i was gonna say we got we got the really strong stuff right roger because i had zero issues yeah and it's too bad to hear that people were going through it because we played it on pc here in the office it ran very smoothly alongside running obs running a bunch of google chrome tabs everything under the sun and it ran great for me i had a ton of fun with it so like i hope that they can resolve this for the other players out there and they can have a fun experience like i had yeah yeah i mean i this is i think part for the course for a lot of playstation games that launch uh on pc specifically we see that uh happening quite often i know it's different for different studios and of course arc system works works is not a port necessarily this is a game that's been dual developed for both sides of it but yeah i mean this is just part for the course sadly for pc games and i'm happy that steam users are pointing these things out because i think these things need to be fixed especially with a game that is a fighting game that demands as much fps and fluidity as possible if you're getting hitches if you're having issues with cpu bottlenecks and all this stuff like yeah they got to be fixing that and it does suck that this is something that is at launch which clearly was something that hey we knew that this was happening at the at the open beta phase of things we should have figured this out earlier and maybe push this back a little bit um but yeah i'm happy that people are excited about it that you're playing it and we'll talk more about it during the gamescast correct yeah we're gonna talk about another gamescast you know i got my butt whooped yesterday i had some fun i'm excited to play the campaign okay that's all that matters to me i'm excited too i've i've seen some of the the stuff of deadpool and everything a lot of fighting game references going on in there i saw some people talking about that uh but i'm gonna hop in this weekend try it out try it yeah you guys are as well let me know let me know if you're hopping in but mike if if i were to hop in and actually get really good at marvel token fighters that'd be big news but if i was looking for something smaller the tiniest news we need to know about where would i go roger you'd go to our last story the we news channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about it's we news time everybody quake dawn of the machine is available right now let me read you the description to celebrate quake's 30th anniversary the award-winning team at machine games in collaboration with id software returns with dawn of the machine a brutal new episode building on their critically acclaimed work on dimension of the machine and dimension of the past delivering ferocious combat labyrinth level design and nightmarish realms that twist reality reality beyond recognition it pushes the legacy of the genre defining first-person shooter even further honoring one of the gaming gaming's most enduring icons so sick cool yeah it looks cool dude yeah yeah i love that were you a big quake guy back in the dude weirdly yeah as a kid i i look a little kid like i'm talking like from like three four years old my head we had quake on the computer and i remember there's the one of those monsters like that has like the the sharp hands and he would like kind of jump out at you and i always call him the scrappy monster as a kid i always call him the scrappy monster i'll be running around the house yelling about the scrappy monster so yeah i loved quake as a kid never played it online i think it was just me running around like to shoot things um but yeah i loved quake so yeah i'm actually i'm actually interested in trying that out booting up quake for the first time in years that's cool probably probably two decades honestly this is over two decades unless i played quake did you ever play quake uh no never played quake saw a little doom way back in the day on the pc gaming at a friend's house i remember seeing i was a big tribes guy i always talk about tribes i love tribes and unreal tournament unreal tournament I think that came from like Xbox maybe when I was on it.
45:34I loved Unreal Tournament.
45:35Tim Gettys:Yeah, the only Unreal Tournament I remember is the 3. Yeah, that's the one. I always wanted to get into Quake Champions but I never jumped on it. That was something I remember saw and I was like, oh man, I'm interested in that but I never jumped on Quake Champions. Quake Champions. Yeah, I totally forgot this existed. Hell yeah. Maybe we can be home with Quake guys, you and me. Well, you know, they brought Wolfenstein and Doom and like they got a whole new fan base on that i wonder if there's ever a conversation about quake like that rise of the triad needs a reboot i forgot about that that was pretty sick uh i was gonna say story number four why did i scroll up over here uh next thing in we news splatoon raiders 1.1.1 update is now live it fixes a lot of issues in toons gameplay including a little tidbit right here when releasing a tank's limiter you can now release it without holding down the a button which is nice um yeah i like that they're up playing that yeah it's playing a little bit yeah i like it's i it is i i think i like it i don't think i love it it's just it's it's it's just a lot of the same stuff like it's like i feel like if you're two hours three hours into it you're just kind of having the same experience constantly and it just like doesn't really evolve the enemies don't really change it but it's cool it's like a fun little like i don't know like two or three little runs here and there and then you just turn it off and you go on to the next thing uh it is it is very disposable game in my opinion but i like it uh epic games confirms that sprites will return in fortnight for chapter seven season four overdrive sprites that you've collected in season three runners will be immortalized in the new sprite garden an island getaway where you can play with your sprites visit friends gardens sanctuaries and showcase your entire collection as you gather sprites in season four they're immediately added to your garden too this is remind you of chow the chow they're doing the chow yeah buddy yeah i was playing i played for it for the first time in like probably like over a year now i booted it up with a friend and we're playing and i just couldn't believe like the like how much had changed like all the little things but also like the sprites like the sprites have really like taken over and it was to the point where we were playing and my friend she was running around with a sprite on her back that was like a rare one and people were like chasing us down for her like try to kill us for her sprite oh yeah i was like no it's a bit right like no no no like they're trying to kill us right now because we have a rare sprite and i was like that is crazy yeah it's super cool the sprites brought a lot of energy into fortnite this past season and i know a lot of players are enjoying it so yeah they will probably continue and find ways to keep that going for sure yeah the sprites are are going crazy over there so yeah shout to them for always kind of like figuring it out making new experiences and making the the the sprite garden the chow garden i mean that's a smart move doing the chow garden.
48:19Tim Gettys:I'm going to be honest after this not even a bit. I'm going to go across the street and get a Sprite because we're saying the word Sprite so much I'm parched and I could just fucking down a Sprite right now. I want it. I've been on a Sprite kick lately. Really? Past couple of months I've been ordering Sprites. Ordering Sprites? Ordering Sprites. Why? Because like nice change up. Usually you go Coca-Cola but like when you order a Sprite it hits. Where are you ordering Sprites from? Everywhere. You know places I don't even have Sprites? you know give me a sprite give me a sprite uh via noble on blue sky serious sam shatterverse launches august 31st on xbox series playstation 5 and pc and the last one which is a sadder one uh is but it's also really nice uh sam neil uh the late sam neil his last role will be in this legend of zelda movie coming up so that was revealed uh yesterday so that's exciting and sad yeah and that is the it for we news everybody a lot of super chats mikey you're gonna take me through this.
49:17You ready to tear it up, Roger? We have a lot of super chat. Thank you for supporting us, everybody. Gifted Pink writes in and says, heartbreak tax. Dexter writes in and says, can I get an RIP for my dog and best friend of eight and a half years, Winston? He passed away suddenly two weeks ago today, and I've been absolutely devastated ever since. Can we get some pup love right now for Winston? Pup love for Winston. You know, appreciate the time that you have. Look back fondly on the moments and the memories. And know that Dexter were with you. We're giving you some pup love, my friends. R.I.P.

But I say, come on, bring it. And they whooped me all day long. It was two and a half hours of punishment. But I took a couple of you and I set up the rule. I said, it's not about me beating all of you. It's about you losing to me.

52:50Tim Gettys:wow any particular reason you want to shout me out is it because for getting his hosting skills up over the years you rock what about my new glasses that no one mentioned Mike didn't mention it oh you don't wear your glasses that's what no one mentioned my new glasses Kevin didn't say anything the audience didn't say anything I don't like them I didn't want to bring it up I like them they're grey they're like a steel gray he's just stating facts you know what i mean they look kind of metal now i like and like the sides of them almost look like cheese graters like i could grade some cheese on the side i think you can yeah you can bring some cheese let's do it i just i want to know they're really sharp peel it they're very sharp by the time you come here i might return this gotta be honest they are quite sharp they're very sharp
53:36i have a light prescription the lightest by the time you come here in october I might have new pairs of glasses. Oh, wow. Yeah, I'm thinking about going in. I'm excited about it. Where's your old pair? Yeah. You lost them a little bit. I don't like them anymore. You know, glasses are tough because sometimes they go out of style. They're not your steez anymore. Yeah. I don't want to wear them anymore.
53:57Tim Gettys:It's like the time you had the Burger King kids watch, and then I told you it looked like shit, and then you threw it away. If I could find it. Kevin, look up Nixon watches. Put Frog and Mountain on it. It's a Hannah something collection. There I was. Roger's a watch guy, and I was jealous. I'm not really, but yeah. And I decided I wanted to get my own watch, you know? And it's not like, Mike, I'm just not going to rock a Rolex. I'm not going to rock some generic-looking fossil watch from 2004, right? Yeah. And so I wanted to go and have a little unique spin on Mike. And when I think of Mike, I think mountains.
54:33I think of being outside. I think of being outdoors. Oh, man. None of these. Yeah, it's Nick. Oh, there it is. Yeah, there it is. There it is. what's the name of that one Hannah I called it the Hannah I saw it and I was like it looks like
54:47Tim Gettys:a Burger King kids toy like it doesn't look it doesn't you wear every day and it just doesn't it doesn't look great I want everyone to know that I bought this watch thinking you know what this is Snowbike Mike no and Roger made fun of it to the point where I never wore it and it sits inside of my car's glove box for eternity I gotta be honest it's been over a year and a half it would look so good since i purchased this i got i gotta be honest like it was such a light criticism too like it wasn't i i'm joking that i said it would look like shit i said i don't particularly love it like i think you can get another watch like have like multiple watches and then he just threw this watch away like it was like again such a light it hurts when you hear from your best friend such a light criticism it's a light criticism so it had to go it had to go forever you know what i mean yeah we have uh exile online birthday tax 40 years and i could be Roger's dad.
