Today's gaming news stories include literally one of the most unhinged things I've ever heard a CEO say, and that is saying something. Netflix is shutting down another couple studios, and you smell that? It's Kingdom Hearts, baby. We'll have all this and more because this is Kingdom Hearts.

0:34I thought that was on purpose. Yeah, I thought that was on purpose, too. It wasn't on purpose. And, like, we could have, like, played it off. We could have stopped laughing because, like, the audience didn't hear you say no. Like, you said no when the intro played, so you could have just played it off. Like, oh, yeah, that's what you did on purpose. This is one of those times I fuck up all the time, and it's fine. This is one of the few times I'm embarrassed. I feel myself, like, turning more red than I just naturally am. Is it because you're pointing to the screen? I don't know. I got Kingdom Hearts on the freaking mind.

1:03It's Friday. I didn't bat an eye. I thought you were just like doing it. Yeah. Yeah. I could have just continued Kingdom Hearts games daily. I could have just. No, I didn't though. I just, I got stuck. It sounded good to me, but yeah, Chad, like Barrett was mentioning for reference. He said, this is Kingdom Hearts. The intro plays and he goes, nope. That was not what I meant to say. Great job. What's up, everybody? I am. welcome to kind of funny games daily for friday august 14th 2026 this of course is andy cortez andy how are you doing i'm doing great tim good morning what's your weekend looking like um trying to play more of an embargoed video game love that for you and a lot more red dead dutch yeah yeah yeah where are you at in your red dead journey um it's a great question you know there's a there's a murder mystery in red dead that is just like a side thing that you just happen upon you like walk up and there's like a body flayed out like hanging by its hands like torso gone and it and written in blood it's like don't believe his lies or some shit like it's not that but like there's like some shit and you're like oh what's this and you stumble upon it so like i have that going on there's other side missions that I need to kind of get back to.

2:24But then, you know, Dutch needs more money. Arthur, I need more money, Arthur. The camp, we could use, we could, I would love to have a better suit tonight. I just see the horse now, man. I just see the talking horse. Arthur. So we're doing that. But I think I'm maybe two-thirds of the way through, you know, of the main story. And then there's an epilogue that, you know, you kind of forget about. but it's there. It's there. Yeah. And suddenly I'm John Marston. I'm with my, I'm with my son, Jack. I was a bad father. I'll tell you what, Tim, I was a bad father. I didn't give a shit about this kid, but luckily, but luckily Arthur did.

3:05Ain't that right? John Marston. Ain't that right? Arthur. Yeah, it is Dutch, man. I'm just killing it right now. Look at this guy. The nitro rifle. It's, it's a great time. It's, it's a man. It's an experience. Yeah. I love that you're doing this leading into GTA 6. I feel like it's going to give you a very interesting perspective to be able to speak to Rockstar's game design in a direct way. It's kind of like MCU in review. Right, yeah, absolutely. I mean, you're playing the last thing that they put out that wasn't Dr. Dre mission in GTA Online or something like that. They did that. Yeah, they sure did.

3:41They sure did. But yeah, it's stunning. Would you believe Dr. Dre is now just dating one of the reality TV people that we watch? and it's just like this shouldn't happen he's showing up as like a cameo not yet season four of the valley he probably will the valley that's concerning to everyone that's a different spin off of vanderpump rules so when you say andy i don't know how you have so much time to game yeah because i'm not watching all these fucking shows hey man you know okay you know what it's it's called i was gonna say kingdom hearts i can't say it's kingdom hearts everybody no you Bring up a good point, though.

4:16I've become something that I never thought I could. I never thought I would. I would look in the mirror as a young child, as a seventh grader, thinking my hair looked really, really cool with blonde tips. You know what I mean? I'd just be like, I can't go to school today because, like, my hair looks fucking. Don't second guess that. Thank you, Andy. Thank you. And, you know, I would grow up a little bit more. And I was like, oh, man, now I'm working in video games. Now I'm doing this. Like, I've done so much cool shit in my life. I never in my life thought I would be sitting here talking to you about the Valley season four.

4:48All right. The Dr. Dre part, maybe. But the rest of it, definitely not. Like, something changed in me. I don't know what it is. What could it have possibly been that happened to me about a little over 12 years ago? You know what I mean? But something happened to me. And that's who I am now. But every once in a while, I'll see something of myself that I'm like, where is that seventh grader with the blonde tips? Because that man is gone. Yeah. And that man has been replaced with something. Barrett. Sorry, I just saw you. My bad. G recorded me without me knowing last night. And this footage, I'm just like, who is that man?

5:28Oh, no. Oh, no. Pokemon in the world. And this leads to Jigglypuff. I take it back. They had a nice little lead in there, okay? If Jigglypuff sings its song,

5:45Jigglypuff.

5:57You're doing the right thing of just speaking to your baby like a normal human. This is so cute.

6:11here i am just having this moment with my daughter pomeranians having a wwe match the ham hocks are out too this is what i'm saying i'm just looking at this i'm just like oh no look at this unit on display she's so cute it's just it's just absolutely ridiculous we're just like i do love that it is a pokemon book that i'm reading and i also love that like am i reading or am I just telling her stories about the different Pokemon? There's a lot of editorializing. A lot of editorializing. Yeah, the writers would be like, hey, get back to the fucking thing I wrote. It starts off because it's the alphabet, the ABCs of Pokemon, so it's like, you know, it starts off, it's like, did you know that there's a...

6:50Hold on, can I guess A? Yeah. Ash? No. Okay, hold on, Aerodactyl? No. Okay, hold on. Abra? I don't remember what A was, but I'm pretty sure it was like past Gen 1 or 2, so I don't think you would be able to get it. But it starts and it's just like, did you know that there's at least a Pokemon for every letter of the alphabet? And it's like you start going through and some have multiple and stuff. What about Q? Quasimodo? Q was Quagsmeyer. Shut up. Yeah. Giggity.

7:26Quagsire. Something like that. I don't know. The blue one with the doofy eyes. Quagsire, I think, is the name of it. You hit that giggity so fast.

7:38Oh, this fucking thing. This fucking thing, dude. That's right. I'm excited. Ditto, but not ditto. Which is amazing. But I'm going through, and I get to eye, and it was Igglybuff, which is the baby Jigglypuff. And I started talking hella shit. I was like, there's a lot of better eyes. And I was telling her, like, there's so many better eyes. What are they even doing here? Who would be your top eye? I mean, I don't know. Intaleon's a lot cooler, I think. Indonesia? Yes. it's a word that starts with the i but then i get to the video in the beginning of that clip you hear me kind of go oh i see what they're doing because then jay's jigglypuff and i'm like okay there was a nice lead in here teaching you you know that yeah i'm like okay this is actually a good thing really quick andy i'm just i'm just going to turn off the the cameras here just give it to me one more time it's this pokemon giggity thank you thank you if you watch it live be part of the show by super chatting on youtube.com slash kind of funny games.

8:34We couldn't do this without our producers on patreon.com slash kind of funny. So thank you to Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Delady, the Somtronic, and Lax, Nomad. What is it? Indonesian, my favorite evolution.

8:48Infernape is a good one, though. Infernape's great. Yes. For Dallas McGooners, what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It's time for some news. We have six stories today. Becca! There's a dozen. Oh, Ivysaur, so easy. That's right. Real gut out there. That's so true. Ivysaur is right there. Ivysaur is pretty cool. Jay says Inteleon, which I said earlier, which is the Sobble full form, the James Bond one. He fucking shoots like that. He's super sick. His mega evolution. He turns into a tower and he's a sniper. It sounds like a corporation in a Pixar movie. It does. Can you bring up Inteleon?

9:25Here at Inteleon. Oh, this guy. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I love Inteleon. I know that there's a lot of bias against the anthropomorphic. This dude would stages. Yeah. This dude would stab you in the back, but in telling on dope is shit, right? Like look at him. He's James Bond. Cause this is from Galar, which is like the UK. So all that, but yeah, look at the, um, the, the, the second middle picture, like down one, the real long thing. That's his mega evolution where he becomes a sniper on a tower. Oh, and it's his tail. That's the tower. Isn't that crazy? That's cool. His whole tail is the mount Yeah, so it's on Mega Evolution That's Gigantamax Look at me It's fine to do The anthropomorphic Pokemon stuff We need to stop Drawing them with the fuck me eyes I like it though For him, I like it This is a dude that I would dap the fuck up I really, really fuck with Inteleon Sammy's gonna learn about Inteleon She'll know one way or another Story number one strap in y 'all strap in saber interactive denies replacing lead writer with chat gpt the ceo responds to accusations this comes from edmund tran at this week in video games so this is a one of those rare times where i want to read every single word of this article and i want y 'all to strap in i want y 'all to pay attention and i want y 'all to just really think about your life and others lives and video games as a whole and just how incredibly fucked we are we have the headline for this episode that i don't know if it's there yet is it barrett uh no i'm still waiting on a thumbnail roger's still making the thumbnail when it is done barrett's gonna update the the headline to this episode to just be this guy sucks and we didn't want to put it too early because we didn't want it to just be the default thumbnail and make it look like greg sucks i want it clear yeah greg It does suck.

11:20But Greg sucks with like the SUX. Like it's a joke. We love him, but he sucks. This situation, once I get to the end of it, you'll understand. This man sucks. This is some big suck. This is some major big suck. So let's get into it. Saber Interactive, publisher of the upcoming simulation game Rideshare Stimulator, has denied renewed claims that it fired a former lead writer so it could use ChatGPT to write the rest of the text, including planned live updates. In the process, the company has acknowledged previously undisclosed Gen AI use elsewhere in the title. On August 11, 2026, writer and narrative designer Stella Sacco, who was previously employed by Saber Interactive from July 23 to July 24 as a lead writer on Stuntman Hollywood and other games across Saber's portfolio, shared the trailer for Rideshare Stimulator on social media.

12:08She remarked, I was lead writer on this one, and Saber replaced me with ChatGPT midway through development. All the passenger voices were AI too Either they changed direction at some point Or they're not disclosing that on Steam Sokka had previously shared Her experiences of quote being replaced With ChachiBT on a project at Sabre But did not disclose the then unannounced project At that time Rideshow Stimulator is a driving simulation Game developed by Unigine And published by Sabre Interactive Revolving around the management of a ride sharing business Dodge traffic, follow the rules And race the clock to drop off your quirky passengers each with a story that's either captivating hilarious or just plain weird reads the game's marketing a couple weeks ago we watched the trailer for this um it seemed very like likely that ai was involved in some way just because of the tone it was going for um but the game also very satirical very just over the top so it's kind of hard to tell sometimes but also barrett's very specifically was suspicious of um what was going on here it is statement made to pc gamer a spokesperson for Saber Interactive provided the following response.

13:13Neither Saber nor Unigine have replaced any riders with AI for Rideshare or any other game. In fact, Saber's staff of riders has tripled since 2023. Rideshare's story was written entirely by real people. The publisher's statement continued, acknowledging that the game does in fact use some form of presumably generative AI. The game will also feature an experimental free ride mode that by necessity incorporates AI as a number of passengers in the game is infinite. We are firm believers in using AI tools to improve or enhance gameplay experiences and improve NPC behavior, as we have done since Sabre was founded in 2001.

13:45As the industry has continued to contract, Sabre continues to hire, it added. None of our 3 ,000-plus employees have to worry about being replaced by AI. The use of AI in Rideshare Stimulator comes as some surprise, as the title does not currently have a generative AI disclosure on its Steam page. Valve's guidelines for its content surveys on Steam stipulate that if a game uses AI services during development or in corporate AI services as a part of the product, a developer is required to describe that implementation in detail. It clarifies that the section is specifically concerned with, quote, the use of AI in creating content that ships with your game and is consumed by players.

14:20This includes content such as artwork, sound, narrative, localization, etc. Really quick, an update on this. as of 30 minutes ago, they have an AI-generated content disclosure on Steam. There we go. There we go. From Stella herself. This is the person that was let go. There was an update, everyone. This is where I need everyone to strap in for, okay? On August 13th, 2026. This was yesterday. In response to a query from This Week in Video Games, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch explained, the Steam page will be updated once the feature set is finalized. We're touting this experimental model as a feature not shying away from it.

14:58PC Gamer garnered a response from Saco in relation to Saber's comments. They can say what they want. I was there. I even posted on Facebook about it at the time, and I had mentioned it on Blue Sky several times without using the game's title, she said. They took me off the project to use ChatGPT to write the rest of the text, including planned live updates, she reiterated. If they change plans in the intervening years, that's great, but again, I was there, and it was my job to write the game, and then it wasn't once Matt Karch decided using chat gpt would be great publicity for the game elaborating further on her comments on social media sako remarked quote my boss to his credit argued over and over with the c-level who pushed the ai we already have stella and she's funny and she's good at this she's done live games before so live ops are no problem etc but the suit insisted gamers love new tech so using ai would be quote great marketing to be clear this was an issue of one to two ai dummy higher ups at saber she later clarified i have no beef with the unigine team another update this week in video games requested a follow-up comment from saber interactive and received the following statement from cards okay i'm sorry i've already said this about four times but this is where i need y 'all to strap in strap the freak this this is it y 'all there's the points of no return this is what the ceo of saber says this Stella who?

16:18I had to ask Claude because I have never spoken to her or seen her. We've already said we're using AI for certain parts of the game and we'll update the Steam page once we've finalized the feature set. Let me clarify that the entire story script, were it to win an award, would go to someone who can walk up on stage and receive it. It was always our intention to reveal this until Stella violated her confidentiality clause and revealed this before we were ready. We look at our use of AI in this particular game, which will be a lower-priced title, as a plus for consumers. he said. As far as Stella is concerned, she was replaced by someone more talented and terminated for a variety of reasons a few months later.

16:54From what I can gather, she enjoys controversy even more than I do. I would frankly, in retrospect, have been happy to replace her with AI. Let me take that one back a sec. I would frankly, in retrospect, have been happy to replace her with AI. I would frankly, in retrospect, have been happy to replace her with AI, you know. At least we would be dealing with someone who programmed, to be honest. At least we would be dealing with someone programmed to be honest. CEOs are not your friends. This sounds like just Trump talking straight up. Saka released a public statement in response to the comments provided to This Week in Video Games.

17:27It reads, quote, I've seen the statement by Matt Karch, the CEO of Saber Entertainment, and all of the truly horrendous things he said about me. I think it should be obvious to anyone who reads that statement that he's lashing out because he did not want people to know there was AI use in the game. She continues, everything I said was true. Here's more truth. That statement's remarkably pathetic for the CEO of any company to be making, and combined with the AI use, it will do far more damage to Saber's reputation than it ever could mine. This screed will be many people's first exposure to the Saber brand.

17:55Interesting one that I just happened upon just talking about Saber and how they run as a company. Ashley Cooper posted yesterday when all of this was coming out, When I worked on Space Marine 2, I became the target of a mass harassment campaign by the worst corners of the 40K fandom. Saber tried to deal with the problem by asking me to remove that I worked for them from my social media. I refused. Not at all surprised by this behavior from Karch. So just to give a hint, just even more of a tease of what this company looks like behind the curtain. He's also a big fan of Asmund Mould. Of course.

18:30Yeah. Legit. An older tweet of him being like, look, man, that's what I love about 40K, like Space Marine 2. We just want to make games that are taking us back to just when games are games. and that's there was no politics and that sort of thing that that's what he had uh commented on on a youtube video of his um it was awesome this guy's sick dude what a cool guy thank him for standing up you know and like saying something like really defending the teams working on these games and like you know his position in the video game to fuck this dude it's like i i really don't have much to say i had to ask how about sound worse i'd ask claude i like that they've upgraded from chat gpt now you know what i mean i had to ask claude he thinks he fucking ate with this shit he thinks that like he started like stella who it's like no matter what as shitty as all of this is him saying this stuff bro you lost you fucking lost like there's just no coming back from it like this is the definition of punching down in the stupidest way possible it's fucking embarrassing yeah if there's anyone that hears this and goes dude she felt he fucking owned her it's like that you need to really look in the mirror yeah the um it's one thing to maybe go at a former employee for some other type of wrongdoing and still using this tone it's like oh bad luck dude we know that she did blah blah blah bad luck still like you can't be doing that this is like even worse like to be doing this over generative ai and to be i had to ask claude it's so embarrassing it's that's so fucking cringe embarrassing and then here it is now it's like all right cool the steam thing gets updated which they said was going to happen and it's like you know like the thing is she is out here saying things she shouldn't be saying breaking ndas and all that stuff okay that's one we wouldn't be talking about that as a new story you know what i'm saying but And then it's like, here we are with the fucking CEO of this company calling out a specific person for some shit where it's like, dude, you're a fucking loser being here.

20:46What? Hold on. Where's the line? The line being like, hey, this is for the gamers. Oh, gamers love tech, this tech for moving forward in tech. It's like using it as a marketing beat like that is that it would be great publicity for the game like that is. to be fair in 2023 we didn't know how much not everybody knew how much everybody was going to hate ai so in 2023 i could see a tech uh ceo going this is futuristic and cool sure and like the temperature wasn't what it is now certainly or even you know two years ago or whatever i feel like that was like the last possible point in time he could have said something like that But now it's like, have you read the internet at all?

21:30Yeah. Who do you hang out with? I mean, we know the answer to that, right? Yeah. So the line I was looking for, though, is we look at our use of AI in this particular game, which will be a lower price title as a plus for consumers.

21:43This is a little help. We're just helping them out. Fuck you. You're such a liar. No, you don't see it that way. It's a plus to you. In what way? In what world is that a place? It's like, oh, well, because of this, we were allowed to sell this fucking slop for less. Yeah. I was supposed to be babysitting my son, but I told Claude to keep him company so I could write this email. It's just so fucking embarrassing, man. It's one of those, like, dunk your head in the toilet and just go to sleep. Give yourself a swirly, dude. Go to sleep for a week, man. You've got to just take a step back. But again, it's just the loss of humanity.

22:21It's not giving a shit about the work that people do and the talents that people have. Yeah, it's just really, really sad and embarrassing. I don't have the story in front of me, so I'm sorry for not having all the info here. But I have been very interested in the last couple days seeing this. In AI? I'm getting interested. You know what? I've been looking into it. I've been interested in the news stories coming out about Claude, where they're going to insert digital watermarks into... uh any prompts that is created and stuff so it's like you're able to confirm if something was like and i'm like that is interesting and i don't really understand how that behooves them like why they would want to do that you know and i do think it's just at this point where there's just completely ungoverned and like everyone's figuring stuff out or the world's gonna just end but like i didn't expect that do you know what i'm talking about um i i know that like you know Google nano banana or whatever their image creation thing is.

23:26Fuck. Yeah. Like I know that a lot of those image creation ones have digital watermarks that you could kind of like figure out and run it through a scanner and say like, yeah, this is an AI image or whatever. But I got to assume maybe there was pressure on them. The EU is requiring them to add a watermark. Why is it the EU always doing shit right? Doing shit right, man. They were just regulating. USBC. Yeah, thank you. Yeah. Fucking thank you, man. It's embarrassing, man. Yeah, it's just a sad state of affairs right now. It's an invisible watermark? It's an invisible watermark, but... You have to run shit through a scanner to...

24:00Or at least that's how it is with the images. I don't know how this text shit will work, but I got to assume it's what... There's metadata attached to it. I got to assume there's a lot of schools and universities. Schools are just entirely fucked, man. And that is so concerning. they've been fucked for so long but now it's a whole new level yeah yeah just any sort of uh literacy capabilities were already rough before all of this and now it's gonna be even worse man in the fucking toilet in the i'm gonna ask claude how to fix it though

We're back with story number two, which really bums me out because I was hoping we'd get through the bullshit and then get to some fun stuff. but not yet not yet story number two gonna keep trudging through the mud we gotta go through the goddamn mud netflix is shutting down oxen free studio night school six weeks after its last game was released this comes from chris scullion at vgc netflix is closing down two more game studios including oxen free developer night school studio as reported by game file the streaming service is shutting down the california studio after acquiring it in 2021 making it the first studio to be acquired by Netflix.

26:12Netflix released the critically acclaimed Oxenfree in 2016 and released Oxenfree 2 after it was acquired by Netflix, as well as Black Mirror spinoff mobile game, Thronglets. Excuse me? Yep, Thronglets. Just six weeks ago, it released Unhinged, an interactive horror game designed to be played through Netflix's cloud streaming service where the player uses their phone, adapters to the controller, and the protagonist's actual phone in the game, which I think Greg liked a lot. Is that the one? Greg plays a lot of games. Greg does play a lot of games. Like a lot of weird things. I think Greg liked that one.

26:42Now the studio is being shuttered along with plans to shut down Finnish studio Moonloot, which was founded in 22 and was reportedly working on an Animal Crossing-style live sim game. A Netflix spokesperson spoke to Gamefile and saying that it was focusing its attention more on party games, story-driven games, games aimed at children, and titles with more mainstream appeal, including the recent FIFA World Cup game. Can I just take a second there? they're going to take a step back to focus on this and this and this and this and this and this you just named every fucking genre there is i mean you know tim we gotta like just really focus on what makes us special and that is fifa and story-driven games also party games and games for kids we see an opportunity to be more focused in our execution that's at least four game awards categories you know what i mean that's crazy uh so we're making organizational changes to the business to match those priorities we're incredibly grateful to the talented colleagues we're saying goodbye to today we thank them for the contributions to netflix and wish them the best it was also confirmed netflix will be laying off staff from its internal games team the exact number is not known last year avowed director kerry patel announced she was leaving obsidian after 12 years to join netflix to take on a directorial role at night school studio netflix's gaming vision continues to change over time, resulting in numerous closures and layoffs.

28:06In October 24, it shut down its AAA studio, known as Team Blue, after spending the past couple of years acquiring a number of veteran developers to join it. This included former Overwatch executive producer Chaco Sunny, Halo veteran Joseph Statton, and former Sony Santa Monica art director Raph Grissetti. All three reportedly left Netflix after the studio was closed down. The following month, it then removed almost all of its interactive specials, which played out like branching stories with players making decisions to progress the story in directions. 20 of its 24 interactive specials were removed by December 1st, and the rest, including an episode of Black Mirror, followed in 2025.

28:41I think I have this right also, that in October, Netflix shut down Boss Fight shortly after Peters praised the team's Squid Game game to investors. One of Boss Fight's main developers now works at Netflix FIFA game for outside studio Delphi. so team spry or team blue boss fight a lot of uh with a lot of like veterans we see this happen all the time in the industry you know it's always former all-star devs from whatever games that are you know have a lot of popularity and people who have been in the business for a while let's bring them over here and try to get something kick-started and it man i feel like it rarely works out nowadays and it's so freaking unfortunate because as is often the case with these things on paper these are good ideas but the good ideas need to be continuously supported through thick and thin it is a wedding it is a marriage it is like it is something it is a commitment and when you don't commit you are destroying the industry and it's just like these companies that have so much money have this vague interest in gaming because their real interest is just new verticals of revenue yeah and when you have so much money to be able to invest clearly there were some smart people involved in this because they hired the right people right but without the time without the support even when things are coming out and it's like if you don't have the platform to get the results you need from a team putting out auction free you need to figure that out or else don't do it like if i understand they want to make netflix a destination for games they did not do a good job of explaining that to people and and even like there's certain things like hades being on you could play hades on ios through netflix or at least you could until it was delisted oh and it's just like all right well that fucking sucks yeah But like, there's great ideas there.

30:49But if you're going to create a business around this, this reminds me a lot of the Xbox Game Pass bullshit. It's like you need to have a plan that isn't just serving the one way you know how to do things. You need to make sure that it can work and benefit your bullshit. And if you can't, it doesn't work. Yeah, it makes me think back to some devs that worked on or that are still working over at id Software. working on doom and then mentioning, well, yeah, you know, we're going to cite some low sales. Okay. But you told us sales don't matter because we're on game pass. So of course our sales are low.

31:27You know what I mean? So it, it, it's always just ideas fighting against each other. And, you know, I hate to just boil it down to the big, you know, capitalism elephant in the room, but I really, really wonder how studios, how smaller studios from now on, will look at acquisitions and the possibilities of acquisitions and how much promises would need to be made of hey we want to buy you but we are not megacorp we're only looking for this much return on investment we do not need massive amounts of like the big percentages of profit like all the other studios we are only asking for this and we think that that is attainable in this current climate and market and it all it it it sucks to kind of just you know i always talk and think back to just like that domino falling meme of like it starts here the first one and the last one is always like all these companies getting shut down but it like there's so many steps in between of well these companies want a lot more profit because they have to pay their employees because their employees need to be paid a lot why because it the cost of living is so fucking high in a lot of these cities and the cost of living is so high in a lot of these cities and it just goes and goes and it just compounds and compounds and it's like it it's seemingly getting harder and harder to have a functioning and thriving industry in this i mean it's not even seemingly it just is it's just like it's it just seems kind of like an impossibility and going back to the ea you know uh sort of then going back to becoming a private privately owned company with uh with the saudi investment deal saudi investment fund it like you are killing the workforce in the country you no bones about it you are yeah you are telling people like yeah we can't really afford a lot of of the workforce in this country because they require a lot of pay because it costs so fucking much work here we're gonna outsource this shit out of so much of our future the thing the thing is i mean yes you're so right with that and it just the the worst part about it though is that these are just truths that need to be dealt with it's like the answer can't just be hey we're just fuck it we don't actually care like because we're just trying to do this so that we get golden parachutes and leave that is the answer you need leaders that aren't thinking that way or else it's never going to work.

34:04It's just simply this, this, there's no people that care being this. There's no fixing this. You need people that care because all of these things don't need to happen. If you have people that care and it's fucking hard, this is so hard. It's not easy to sell a product no matter what it is. And when that product is art, when that product is something that people are going to have opinions on, whether that's art or not, it's so ridiculously difficult to create that thing, distribute that thing sell that thing and then make sure that you can make more things in the future because what happens if you put something out and it's a consumable it's something like a video game that isn't live service that is for all intents and purposes one and done cool you made the money there well that money then needs to be used to make the next thing like that's where publishers come into play to be able to help but it's like when the publishers are being led by the golden parachutes yeah the entire system is inevitably fucked there's just no getting out of it and like the the thing you're talking about of the the outsourcing just ruining the jobs in the company and it's like all right cool well the cost of living in a lot of these places is astronomical and it's like well those are the places that people are going to learn these trades and there's a reason they are hubs and over time that has changed and splintered but a lot of that's changed and splintered because of layoffs and because of the entire system being dismantled from the bullshit like i'm not saying anything new i feel like we're just going in circles here but it's just like it's so frustrating because i look at this and i'm like gaming on netflix should work they have so much money they just need people to fucking care they clearly have people that understand they clearly do yeah decisions are made people are coming on and it's like but then they just give up and it yeah they give up so quickly they give up so quickly over such a long period of time yeah like yeah how are we over 10 years into talking about this netflix games thing and there hasn't been any good news yeah all right let's move into some positives here okay story number three it's kingdom hearts games daily baby oh wow cleo thomas is hosting the d23 deep dive into Kingdom Hearts panel.

36:22We've been talking about this panel the last couple days. Last time I was on the show, the only news we had was that there will be a Kingdom Hearts 4 panel at D23 on Saturday, tomorrow, August 15th at 4.30pm Pacific. The update since I've been on the show is that will be live streamed. That will be one of the few panels actually live streamed from D23, which is really exciting. Obviously Cleo Thomas, awesome dude. He's been, most people know him from holes back in the day um but the last two decades i'd say he's just been very very involved in nerd culture video games like just a great authentic voice in the space and um i i always enjoy seeing him at events uh uh and i don't know him personally but like uh i ran into him at the marvel comic-con thing last year yeah i bumped into him at game awards in december he was very sweet he's just a good dude he's always with the good people you know what i mean i'm There's a lot of love for this guy.

37:19And also, he loves Kingdom Hearts. So seeing him get this opportunity, very, very cool. Can't wait to check out this panel as well. But then we get a little bit deeper. Now, first off, before we even pull anything else up, I want to say tonight is the D23 Disney Studios panel. So this is where we'll get Marvel news, Star Wars news, Disney animated news. This is like where we heard about Hoppers last year, the Beaver movie. And I was really excited. Like, this is where I was only last year. Or maybe a couple years ago, maybe two years ago. I guess it must have been two years ago. Was this the Sister Act 3?

37:54D23 is every two years. No, no, no. Every two years, really? Yeah. Sister Act 3, we were still working from home, I think. Yeah, we were. Fascinating. Oh, no, I know that, but was that D23 or was that some other? No, that was the Disney Plus debut event thing. Oh, okay. I'm pretty sure. I could be wrong about that, because that was December. yeah Detroit because it was Game Awards I wouldn't be able to tell you Sister Act and Seth Roth being announced at Smash Bros that's right and where is Sister Act 3 Sky Brings it never came out shut up we never even got a trailer Kevin's never been the same I can't tell you how many times we watched Sister Act 2 at his house that's like some real fucking lore that was one of them movies put that on the biggest revelation for the smileys oh my god um what i'm saying is tonight's gonna be a big deal we're probably gonna get x-men casting we're probably gonna get uh publicly released doomsday trailer the one that they showed at comic-con actually good one um and uh a vision quest trailer like there's a lot of just like things that seem very very likely um probably some news on coco 2 some news on incredibles 3 bunch of shit um people were asking if i'm gonna be live reacting to it the way i do with the comic-con stuff and then z23 unfortunately i am not able to tonight i'm really upset about that but some scheduling and time because i'm just not working out so i'm sorry i wish that i could but i cannot um and now i'm even more bummed that i'm not going to be able to do that because there's a conspiracy theory bro in here oh shit are you are we about to we're grin string theory let's go so bring up the tweet please the first one from daniel rpk daniel rpk is uh one of them movie insider like uh you know leaky guys like whatever i put him under the track record of like i'm interested in following along sometimes he knows exactly what he's talking about sometimes he's just making educated guesses it seems sometimes he has information that is early that might change so i put him in the category of like if he's saying something it's not like i'm like put it it's confirmed but i would call it a rumor you know what i mean um here we go daniel saying there will be a Kingdom Hearts announcement today at D23.

40:14It could just be that Coco will have a world in the fourth game. Mama Coco. Or it could be an announcement for a TV show or movie. Now let's just stay here for a sec. I love all of these things. Like the announcement of a Kingdom Hearts movie or TV show, I would be just thrilled by. I would be very interested in what that could actually look like. Him bringing up Coco, I wonder if this is just him. Totally hypothesizing. it makes sense that that could happen or does he know something you know is he actually saying here oh i know that they're going to announce coco at this d23 maybe that they do that tonight alongside the coco 2 news i i would assume so i don't think you just throw that out without any yeah like because i haven't heard anything about coco otherwise because you've always been talking about star wars star wars is what they showed at the last d20 okay so the idea of coco let me just say coco and kingdom hearts that would be that would look beautiful imagine that world yeah that excites art style it looks so much like oh my god that sounds so cool so if y 'all need me put me in there oh yeah uh sora uh well how do you say king uh uh keyblade in spanish i'm gonna look it up this goes deeper though i'll just say that go to the the next tweet please if it's related to kingdom hearts 4 it'd be very unusual for a video game to be presented during the entertainment panel at d23 everything else announced today will be a show or film also they have a whole panel for kingdom hearts tomorrow so we'll see so yeah it's very unlikely we get a kingdom hearts game announcement tonight because of what this panel is and what the showcase is um so that's so we got different days for that kind of like yes tonight is the big movies tv show thing and then tomorrow is specifically the Kingdom Hearts panel that will be live streamed and all of that.

42:08So that's one thing. Then Andy, there is a twist. It goes deeper? This goes all the way to the top? If you look at the description of tonight's panel, the next tweet, Barrett, the world-class storytellers of the Walt Disney Company will take center stage at the Honda Center for the Disney Entertainment Showcase. Blah, blah, blah. Whole bunch of stuff. Star-studded presentation will celebrate the stories audiences love will offer an exclusive preview of what's coming next across Disney's movies, television, games, and live stage productions. Damn. We might be getting cocoa tonight, boys. Damn. And you're not going to be there to react?

42:46I'm not going to be there to react. It's such a shame. Bigger disappointment than when we reacted to about five straight 6am Nintendo Directs and then the one we didn't they debuted pokemon snap too yeah new pokemon snap and it was like man that's the one we decided to cut it off on this would be i think this would be those levels it's kind of it's definitely i bet you twitch on tv snow bike mike will be life yeah i'll tell you what yeah big kingdom hearts fan yeah oh yeah yeah he won't remember to react to this though yeah i think he will yeah i think he will yeah i don't know i'm gonna see if i just it's this fucking baby

43:33it's this goddamn baby baby man this baby's just taking it out of me I love her so much I love her so much we'll see let me put it this way I might live react tonight there might be a crying baby that I need to tend to every once in a while. But we'll see. Call Kevin over. Have him take the baby for a little bit. You know, there's something that's just not worth it. You walk into the room and Kevin's, like, spitting the baby. He's, like, a basketball. Tossing it up in the air. But anyways, that's exciting stuff. Either way, I personally, like, I don't really need game announcements tonight for Kingdom Hearts because I do think we'll get some stuff tomorrow.

44:25um i like the idea of them having kingdom hearts on the big stage in some way even if it is the game it's like that's cool for them to like present kingdom hearts as a big disney thing because for a while they kind of shied away from that yeah it was like a big deal that like the kingdom hearts characters are at disneyland now it's just like normal almost like it always felt like there was almost a level of and this is just me reading into something that isn't there but it It just always felt like there's a little bit of a level of shame there or something. Like, that's the game. But it's like, this is a massive property, man.

45:00It's massive, man. And they should be proud because Kingdom Hearts has surpassed$1 billion in revenue. Sean Shopdow, the EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment at Disney Game Group, says, The way Disney's shaping the future of interactive entertainment through games is really acknowledging that games have become a foundational part of the broader entertainment landscape. We built a really foundational footprint in games today. He added that our portfolio includes nine games that have grossed over a billion at retail. So it's about telling truly original stories that are really unique in this medium specifically.

45:31Don't ask me what they're about. I don't fucking know. The Disney Game Group's portfolio spans$9 billion franchises, including Kingdom Hearts and Marvel Strike Force, more than half of which have emerged in the last 12 years. There's no way, dude. the amount of fucking times I get offered to do Marvel Strike Force sponsored stuff. It's awesome. It's a mobile game, right? Yeah, but it's good. I'm like, I don't want to do that. It's real good. But it's always there is what I'm saying. So that makes a lot of sense that I'm always wondering because with Marvel Strike Force, I get into the Raid Shadow Legends territory.

46:04It's not. Of like, is this a front for something? How do you have so much money to be offering creators? They're making it, man. I've never heard of anybody that plays this game. I've heard of many, many people. I won't name a bunch of them. There's some people, they're just cats. Oh, okay. You know what I mean? But that doesn't change the fact that they played this game every fucking day and still do, as far as I know. I bet you they are. I bet you they are. It's a whole fucking thing. Be good, people. The way you deliver that line, it feels like we're seeing Tim who, you know, maybe went to breakfast and got brunch and had a couple of, like, fucking mimosas or something.

46:44He's like, they're just fucking cats. I can't talk about this right now. It's a different team we have right now. Oh, my God. Story number four here. Global sales of Pokemon Bacopia for Switch 2 surpassed 5 million units. That's huge. I wanted a little editorialization here from Andy Robinson at VGC, because to put this into perspective, that means that in just five months, the Lifesim game has been purchased by 21 % of Switch 2's install base. Damn. That is incredibly impressive. It also places Pocopia as the second best-selling Switch 2 game behind Mario Kart World's$15 million, although that title was bundled with the console at launch, and ahead of Donkey Kong Bonanza's$4.78 million.

47:26The$5 million sales mean Pocopia is already one of the best-selling Pokemon series spinoffs ever, but it also represents a huge success for developer Koei Tecmo, which has likely seen few hits of this size in its history. Pocopia was mainly developed by Koei Tecmo's Omega Force team, led by the directors behind Dragon Quest Builders 2. notably Pocopio was released as a game key card which is essentially a digital download code on a physical game card a free update and paid expansion were recently released with the second expansion due in late this year and a third and final next year good for the Pokemon company yeah good for them they really needed a W they haven't had much recently what's up with that new DLC how are people feeling about it I have no idea reviewed really well really damn gone so i don't know he's my hutch stone i almost picked it up on the fantasy league but there was just like there was a part of me there was a a part of me that really really felt that it was going to come out and be super disappointing for the amount of money people would pay for it or whatever it was free the dlc damn no but not the watery one right free update oh and paid expansion yeah yeah you're right you're right the paid expansion is was i don't know why i had a feeling that it was going to come out and people were like we paid this much for this it just felt like it was a given yeah but egg on my face you know what would be like a great way to make up for that loss andy uh they have to anything to do with fire emblem fortune sweep and maybe like maybe i get that and you get wolverine man think about it wolverine obviously going to be kind of funniest game of the year because we're all you know sony ponies over here yeah think about it you are right it's a good trade that is a fascinating trade to think about you have fortunes weave he does sick fuck and i have fucking wolverine god damn it man the reviews for tolkien fighting souls came in they were real good they're real good oh no tim because your team was looking real good dog i think that might have been like my fucking because i was i would have been happy with second place and i think this might have just fucked me oh no i think it might i don't know if you because like we still don't know about tides of Annihilation or Kena.

49:39But you do have Zero Company and you do have Onimusha. Kena's not coming out this year. No, Kena's not coming out of this year. We don't know that. Last we heard, they said 2026. Gamescom's still here. Tides of Annihilation is being played at Gamescom, right? It's being played. They'll have a playable thing. The main actress is getting replaced. That's true. By what? What? By what? By who? I'm not saying I want it. you're saying ai tim speed this up get this out i'm fucking joking i'm fucking joking you know i'm fucking joking story number five here call of duty modern warfare 4 let's get this released i'm gonna regret saying that uh call of duty modern warfare 4 beta info um this is from call of duty's twitter here um there's a lot of shit dude there's a lot of words on this picture It might make sense to you.

50:34The one thing that I find interesting is there is a campaign mission entrenched that is part of this open beta. Oh, so next week, that's an easy early access beta for multiplayer maps, open beta for the war zone. And then there's a campaign mission that people get to play. I love that. It's just like a real. That's an extended demo real quick. What's up? This is like the most. We just not even trying anymore with marketing. Like what's going on? This looks like fucking Coachella. Like, what night? Are you going to night three? This is Snow Mike Mike's Coachella. At night three, I can't wait to see Cachete and Lithium.

51:12And then Ground War Combat Outpost is opening up for Imjin Farmland. Oh, dude. 10v10 and 3v3 Gunfight is playing that day? Oh, shit. Lotus and Kill Block. Holy fuck, dude. I haven't heard them in ages. What are we doing? Well, that's it, everyone. Call of Duty. Story number six. I put this here because I wanted to talk about it but we're pretty late in the show I'm still going to do it though the Xbox 360 version of Toy Story 3 is being delisted ahead of Digital Eclipse's remaster this comes from Chris Scullion at VGC the game was originally released in 2010 to coincide with the release of the film it was well received by critics particularly for its open world toy box mode that served as a precursor to Disney Infinity the game's awesome this is like one of those weird hidden gems of like no but actually this one's really really good it's been available to buy in the Xbox store ever since then for$10 with backwards compatibility means it continues to run enhanced on the Xbox series of consoles which is very very cool however as noted by True Achievements the game's Xbox store description has been updated to inform players it's being delisted to make way for the complete edition Digital Eclipse's upcoming remaster starting on September 29th 2026 Toy Story 3 will no longer be available for purchase players will have who have purchased Toy Story 3 will still be able to access the game after this date the complete editions come in on october 15th um it is going to also include all the ps3 editions and it looks really really good uh there's also a toy story retro roundup which is a collection of pretty much all the other toy story games you can get either the complete edition of three or the retro roundup for 25 each or a bundle for 40 for all of this all of that is exciting news in terms of the new stuff i am very excited for both things for different reasons the novelty of the retro roundup because i did enjoy some of those very difficult games back in the day um and then toy story 3 love the love that they're given to it that's gonna be a lot of fun i think kids are gonna have a blast like this is one of those like toy story is timeless right so a toy story 3 like a game playing through the story of toy story 3 will feel like a brand new game to kids you know what i mean yeah like so that's really cool what i don't like about this is the other version being delisted and like i understand it's a losing battle it's still we've lost the war it's not a live service it's just like have it there and i understand it's like well they don't want to have it for eight dollars and sell this one for 40 but why not it's the equivalent of like you don't need to delete that jpeg off your google drive it's just like okay it's just leave it there like ah it just bums me out because i just feel like we're at a point where digital games got so good in so many ways and i feel like when i look at steam and how invested i've gotten in steam over the last couple years because of the steam deck i'm like there's clearly really easy ways to have both versions and have them live next to each other and like have that be celebrated like make that make that a value you know i don't know and i know uh blatant interesting this is common unfortunately i know i just kind of wanted to shine a light and just be like this bums it still stinks you know it just stinks and and at the end of the day i don't think it's the end of the world i i keep saying this and it's a bad thing for me to say but i truly believe it like for as bad as all this shit is it's never been easier to fucking pirate stuff so like the game preservation stuff I just feel like they're not going to do it thank god for everyone else making it easier and easier for us so like I'm looking at my brother not to put him on blast he's the last one that needs this smoke but I'm looking at my brother my brother's playing a bunch of fucking like what does he have what's the device I gave him I sold Cool Greg my Retroid Pocket Flip 2 yeah and so Cool Greg's been playing a bunch of games and I know those aren't games that you downloaded those are cool great games yeah my my brother knows how to download fucking games allegedly allegedly allegedly or or even more impressive tim he kept those games and was able to rip them rip them and on his own accord okay yeah yeah allegedly i'm sorry well well the thing is like a couple of those were from me but then he started talking about allegedly and the ps1 or ps2 games require like two files like whoa and he was like i taught myself like fuck yeah good shit i'm i am very good with that um allegedly allegedly cool greg learning about pirating it's big news but if i want to know about something smaller where would i look you'd go to the tiniest news you need to know about the we news channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about i fucked that up um a very very fun one here there's a new super mario brothers world record for speed runs which is insane because this is one of this is one of the big speed running games out there uh nifsky says yesterday i got four minutes 54 seconds 0.332 milliseconds super mario brothers won any percent world record This run was TAS tie pace to wall jump, and I lost a frame on the pipe entry.

56:12But with a great turnaround room, I was able to clutch out the world record by two frames. Oh, my God. We're now four frames slash.06 seconds from the TAS tie, and I won't stop until it's achieved. So what this means, Andy, do you understand that? Do you understand what TAS is? No, I don't know what TAS is. TAS is Tool Assisted Speed Run. Okay. I don't know if you remember way back in the early, early, early internet days, One of the first viral videos I ever saw was Super Mario Brothers 3 being beaten in 11 minutes or something like that. And it was like the full fucking game. And it was like, how is this possible?

56:46And every move was perfect. And it's like this man, whoever's playing this, is a god. Turns out. He's trying to beat the machine. Yes. It was a literal pitch perfect machine. Like, it wasn't animated. I don't know how to do it. But it's like, it was designed to autoplay, essentially, in the perfect way. so you're not missing a single frame. And so that's what a tool-assisted speedrun is. We are now four frames away from a human being tying the tool-assisted speedrun. Tying the perfect speedrun of Super Mario Bros. Humans are amazing. If there's anything else you need to see, if you need any more evidence that humans, we can achieve anything.

57:27It's so cool. It's right here. It's so damn cool. Oh, you know what else I want to do over the weekend? um i might i might call my friend snowbike mike to see if he wants to play gears of war multiplayer okay is that uh the open the full open beta is like out there now not just like the closed invite or whatever um he would have to answer his phone though i called him when i was on stream the other day um because i wanted to he didn't answer that call and i walked up to him yesterday and I said why don't you answer my call yesterday um we were trying to call you and ask you when you're going to get and he goes well I he goes I didn't answer but I was in the YouTube chat so I was responding did you see my comments in YouTube it's like no but just answer your phone and he said and I said we wanted to know me and the community wanted to know when are you going to schedule this surgery for for the three hernias and and he said oh october 11th which is top 100 day because he just doesn't want to do this surgery and i'm i'm talking to him on text and i'm i'm like when you're gonna get oh cool so like are we gonna schedule something you're gonna schedule something out for this because oh i'm not doing that yeah no i'm not doing that lol tails is coming to fortnite

58:53sonic frontiers has surpassed five million copies the boy sold like tails the boy from sonic yeah okay the boy yeah the little guy You look at Tails And before the fox You go the boy I'm animal blind I don't really see species in that manner But I thought you meant like Tails of something Tails of Symphonia Okay fair I knew what you meant Tim I knew you meant Tails The boy The little guy Sonic Frontiers has surpassed 5 million copies sold, which is very, very cool. Huge deal for this game. That's awesome. On top of that, to celebrate, they're really seeing the Sonic Adventure 2 soap shoes in the game.

59:51Nice. This has been in there before. It was like a weird email thing that you had to do and sign up, but now it's just available to everyone to celebrate. That's bullshit. I earned it with my email thing. Don't be that guy, baby. it's a free for everybody um and then uh the last thing if you can bring up the reddit post there this is from two years i guess three years ago um so it's slightly outdated but i think it still relatively stands here like frontiers at the end there you see at 3.5 it's now crossed five making it the only third game to do that which is like pretty insane in the main line uh sonic series so good for them also i wanted to bring this up because i was very very very i'm often surprised at how low classic old game sales are like chrono trigger was always the one that blew my mind the most but i'm looking here at sonic adventure 2 and i don't know that a game has had the ratio of cultural relevance to sales has ever been that low you're so right this 2.4 million is a combination of the dreamcast and gamecube that's insane isn't that insane that's pretty damn crazy so there we go shout out to frontiers i love sonic adventure one i play the shit out of that on GameCube at my tia's house when I was babysitting during the summer.

1:01:03Hell yeah. And I was like, Chow? What? But Chaos Emerald? Why? Who decided that? Kale? Kale? It's so fucking weird. Compulsion Games 2025 Action Venture Game South of Midnight is now self-published by the studio on Steam. That's an interesting little change there. Really quick with that one. There are some people that have been trying to reach out to Compulsion Games to see if any of that revenue on Steam still goes to Microsoft, trying to figure out for those who are trying to abide by the BDS movement in solidarity with Palestinians. And they've been a little bit cagey on getting a response to people who have been reaching out.

1:01:45So for those of you who are trying to still abide by that, be aware of that stuff before going over to Steam to buy it. Interesting. High on Life VR is coming in 2027. You can wishlist it now. Monowave launches on September 16th on Nintendo Switch and PC, and then later this year on Xbox and PS5. This looks like a fun little co-op puzzle platformer situation. And then the final news of the day, Naomi Kyle is having a baby. I was trying to click into Monowave, but I accidentally clicked the Naomi Kyle Instagram post. So I was trying to see, like, what's this game about? It's just a sonogram buff.

1:02:22I was like, God damn it. My bad. Naomi Kyle Instagram post joining the pregnant baddies club baby boy arriving in January very very cool to see of course our old friend from IGN and then very rare appearances here kind of funny over the years which has always been kind of surprising but awesome very very stoked for her and her husband Kyle but that's it for We News that's it for We News Great job, everyone. Let's see what we got wrong in your wrong. Derek Schwartz says, Tim, the company you work for is kind of funny, not Kingdom Hearts. Damn. Really want that one back, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. No.

1:03:13Not today, Kebabs. Not today. Not today, Kebabs. I do appreciate you, though. 1:04:23Who knows? But he, but if you want to show off just parts of the boss fight and you're, Oh my God, Baird, you got to get that. There's a moment where he fucking does like a, he fucking claps the sides of your ears. Like, and it's like this sound design. It's near the very, very, very end with the Donnie Yen moment. It's like the last two minutes of the whole video, most likely. but if you want to like get if you can get audio up for this because i just need no shame no shadow it's about to happen right here yet it moves through all that's the path you hear that guitar man watch just watch this bullshit

1:05:06who are you i think it's coming up i think it's coming up

1:06:36And then I moved on to other stuff to review. And I said, you can't be in that Splatoon world too long, don't you? It's like Inception. You get stuck in that Splatoon world, you become part of it. Brian, Brian, O 'Brien. Brian spelled all three different ways there. I like that. Says, if the baby gets a little fussy tonight, give her some French bread pizza. It works Every time she's not at that point yet She's at the fucking eating Applesauce and like making weird faces face It's very funny but no she's not Eating pizza yet what's the weirdest like Vegetable puree you're giving her Dude she'd be making some shit that I'm like You're really giving her That right now dude there's some weird Shit I fucking hate peas I'll tell you that Right now Andy I hate peas Andy grow up no Both of you I hate peas I fucking hate peas this has been such a huge thing For me and like i'm standing on this the hill i will die on replace any p with corn anywhere i don't care i want it p you later i love corn p you later we need to start the movement i knew i loved you um claw master says just a thought what other marvel games do you think show up tonight small chance we see the next marvel token dlc character i don't know i i i still even with that phrasing I'm not convinced that we see games tonight.

1:07:57I could see them like pushing Kingdom Hearts and like maybe doing a tease of like a big reveal to really push on the main stage. Hey, we've got this thing tomorrow. If you're interested in mainstream people, if you're interested in playing a game, interacting with your favorite movies and characters, here's this thing. Yeah. And that's it, everyone.
