We got all this and more, because this is Kind of Funny Games Daily.
0:46What up, doe, and welcome to Kind of Funny Games Daily for Wednesday, May 26, 2026. I'm one of your show hosts, Snowbike Mike, joined by one of my gaming dads, my dude, the best voice in the business, someone I just love talking video games with, Paris Lily. Paris, how are you? I'm good. I'm looking at the camera right now. I guess I'm kind of off to the side or something. We'll figure it out in post. No, I'm good, man. I'm so excited to be doing KFGD with you. I know there was a couple other times Greg was like, hey, you want to do a show with Mike? And then I'm busy and traveling and working all this stuff.
1:22but we finally figured it out. And today is an amazing day to be doing this X cast reunion. I'm excited. X cast reunion. We can talk about one of the four horsemen, the X-Men big four. One of them have dropped. It's Forza horizon and it's awesome. Paris. Oh my God. Game to your contender. Absolutely. Without a doubt. I mean, I said it at review time, bummed. I couldn't be on with you guys to do the review for kind of funny. I was, I was in the great state of Kentucky for a little while. We'll talk about that in a minute. But it's an amazing game. It's fantastic. And when people go, oh, Xbox needs a game of the year, this is it.
2:01Go play that. If Jeff Keighley is not talking about this game at the end of the year, I will be absolutely shocked. It is so far for me, the best game I've played so far in 2026 is Forza Reson 6. Caffeine Tony writes in and says, Paris is Bowie Knife 99. Of course, if you've been playing Forza, you know that drive-a-tar. You've seen them in your races. And yes, Paris is Bowie knife 99. That's great. Paris, yeah, I hope to see this at the end of the year up on Jeff Keighley's stage. Playground Games definitely deserves it. We talked about Forza Horizon 5, of course, on the last side of things. IGN giving it their game of the year, getting a lot of praise and love on the mainstream side of things.
2:43And now here's the franchise back again with Forza Horizon 6 set in Japan. And absolutely crushing it on Metacritic. A lot of praise. A lot of love. I hope people remember it come jury voting time later on in the year. It should be a great run, his rights. Paris? Absolutely, man. We got a couple. It's a little X-Castra Union. This is just a joke, but should Xbox do exclusives only? Don't tell me, Paris. We'll talk about it another time. I want to talk about another game. I don't know if you've played yet. James Bond, First Lights. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. So, yes, I have played it. Okay. Interesting because, you know, I did a review with Danny and we talked about it on Game & Tag Radio.
3:22I love the game. I think it's fantastic. I'm a little surprised at how high the scores are. Like, I love the game. This is the definitive 007 game. Absolutely. 100 percent. Run out and go play it. I highly recommend it. I there were some things about it that it was a little nitpicky for me. So I kind of had it in that 8.5, 8, 8.5 range for me personally, but to see you get nines and tens and to kind of see all the praise that it's getting, it's definitely deserved because there's so much in this to love. I mean, this is such a great combination of uncharted. Obviously IO interactive. The hitman DNA is all over this.
4:04Some splinter cell elements are in this as well. And then I saw, I saw Gene park interacting in a tweet that made me go, Oh my God, he this person said this is what watchdogs for should be and i was like i was like absolutely this is it because you're you are literally james bond you're all the gadgets everything all the the story dialogues the you know the look the women flirting with you when you're doing different stuff total james bond 100 so it's it's great i know i'm a little nitpicky with it look go back and watch the indiana jones review greg and i did that'll give you an idea of what my nitpicks are, but I love it.
4:40Highly recommend. And I think what it is is because there's been so many great games already in 2026. I'm not putting this above like Resident Evil. I'm not going to put this above Force Horizon 6, but it's right there. It's good. It's really, really good. I like that, Paris. Yeah, I'm right there with you. I played it all weekend long. I was so sad to miss out on our review. Of course, you can go check that out. Yesterday's Gamescast was all about the big review with James Bond. Bear was on it. We had Jordan Midler on it from VGC. Really great review. I was so sad to miss it because Paris, I played it all weekend long and get this since I was away from home.
5:15I played it exclusively on my Xbox RG ally. And I will say I pushed it to the limits, but I'm pretty pumped up. I had so much fun with this game. I can't wait to run it back again on the big PC with all the graphics turned up to maximum because this game rocks Paris is a must play video game right now. And yeah, where does this fall on my top 10? Will this dethrone Resident Evil? Does this sit right next to Forza? Is this my favorite game of the year so far? We'll find out at the end, but I will say this is a must play game. You got to stop everything and jump on it. But Paris, you know what else we got to jump on?
5:50The video game news. You ready for it? Oh, I'm ready. Let's kickstart today's kind of funny games daily because this is kind of funny games daily each and every weekday. We join you live on Twitch and on YouTube to talk about all things video games. You can be part of the show by live chatting in, by super chatting on youtube.com slash kindoffunnygames. And of course, we couldn't do this without our Patreon producers. Thank you to Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, and Delaney the Psalm Twining. Let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It's time for some news.
6:28We have eight stories today. A Baker's Dozen! You're killing it, Barrett. This story number one. The Witcher 3 is getting new DLC nearly 12 years after launch. It's coming from Darren B at GameSpot. The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red has announced the new Songs of the Past expansion for the game, which comes 11 years after the second expansion, Blood & Wine. Co-developed with Fool's Theory, a studio that includes several Witcher 3 veterans and previous release, The Thermaturge, in 2024, Songs of the Past will be revealed in more detail later this year. What CDPR has revealed is that the expansion will launch in 2027 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S versions of The Witcher 3, and it will once again revolve around Geralt of Rivia.
7:25Rumors about a new Witcher 3 DLC began picking up earlier this year with initial reports speculating that the DLC could see players visit the far eastern destination of Zirconia. New reports claimed that the DLC will instead reuse existing assets and will be set in territories of Temeria and Redania. CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that the system requirements for The Witcher 3 on PC will be updated to, quote, ensure smooth performance and compatibility, end quote, going forward. This means that any Witcher 3 player running the game on Windows 10 operating systems will need to upgrade to Windows 11 if they want to keep playing it.
8:13If you're curious, you can go check out the updated PC specs right now for The Witcher 3. Paris, let's jump into it. This has been rumored. The smoke started. It seems like the fire's burning hot, and it's true. We're returning to The Witcher 3 for brand new DLC. How do you feel about that? Here's how I feel, man. I got my Witcher shirt on. I'm ready. I'm ready. I am so excited for this. And, you know, this has been long rumored. We've obviously speculated for a while. And, you know, CD Projekt Red has been a little coy about it. I mean, I don't know if you saw, but this actually leaked a little early because they were going to do the Red Stream tomorrow to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Blood & Wine, which is arguably the greatest video game expansion ever made.
9:02Right. So they were going to announce it during there. And I guess in the red stream, it kind of leaked out a little bit. So they went ahead and just announced it now. So I have to tell this story. I'm sleeping. I all of a sudden wake up at two 30 in the morning, just for no reason. I wake up. I'm like, why am I waking up? Check my phone. It was the announcement. I, my subconscious knew it knew it was like, wake up you need to see this so if you go look at the time like i'm tweeting at 2 30 in the morning my time about this because i'm just so excited about it i mean for me mike and and i actually want to get in your history about the witcher in a second but for me the witcher 3 is top three all time top three all time for me video game period one of if not the best open world rpg ever made in my opinion um there's just stories like the last wish the bloody baron which i know a lot of people talk about there's just quest storylines in here that are just iconic the fact that you're Geralt you can just literally roam the continent do whatever you want in the game riding on roach on foot whatever the case may be and there's just so many great quests and side stories that you can do Gwent was obviously introduced in this just you can go on a quest to just become the Gwent champion of you know of everything right there's just all these things that come with the witcher 3 that i just absolutely adore and i have over the past where we at now in 2022 i guess 11 years since that game has come out um the first gaming pc i ever built was because of this game that's just how much i i knew early on i remember seeing it at the xbox showcase in 2013 and not believing what i saw i was like come on this they're gonna downgrade this this won't be any of that and i remember going to a behind closed door session and seeing actual gameplay play for it and i'm like oh my god i have to play this game i became obsessed with that game so i've been playing it on and off for the last 11 years just in different variants varieties pc console everything so when they you know and i thought blood and wine obviously was it and i was satisfied i thought gerald got a very satisfying send-off with that but then when these rumors started that hey we know Witcher 4 is coming we're going to do more content for Witcher 3 and I would assume this would be like a bridge of essentially passing the torch from Geralt over to Ciri for the Witcher 4 so with that said I am fascinated to see what this is going to be and it's an expansion and you got to understand with CD Projekt Red they do DLC they give DLC away for free so for them to do an actual paid expansion they have set such a precedent with that because you look at hearts of stone in which are three which was amazing and then blood and wine i mike i'm telling you blood and wine is literally another game it's the witcher 3.5 if that's how big blood and wine is then you even look at cyberpunk 2077 with phantom liberty and how expansive and good that was so pretty high bar for whatever this is going to be uh songs of the past coming in 2027 so i'm excited for it i i will admit i was hoping it was this year but if if they need more time take take all the time you need i'll be happy but i will say this before i turn it over to you yeah it does make me think i was hoping again which are four was maybe holiday 2027 now i'm thinking 2028 i i don't see that coming make sure as well but sir i've talked a lot paris i love that i was gonna ask you about the date because of course, yeah, the big circle that I would put in is 2027 for this DLC.
12:41That does mean Witcher 4, where does that put it? 2028 and beyond, right? And so that is a good talking point because I, similar to you, I thought the Witcher 4 was a little bit closer than I would have expected here with this announcement, but very excited. Paris, you and Andy Cortez are my two Witcher dudes, right? Andy currently playing through the Witcher 3 right now and all the DLCs. It's been fun to relive a lot of the moments that I had a long time ago. It's crazy that we're getting DLC for a game that came out 11 years ago, Paris, right? Like this is a game that maybe you're like me. I played this at launch and that was my time with the witch.
13:17I have not returned to this, right? Maybe you are a diehard fan like Paris, right? Maybe you're jumping in for the first time like Andy or most importantly, Paris, you brought it up. This is a game that has been on the top 25 best games of last generation. there's been a game that's on the top 100 list for many different outlets right like this game is beloved it is that good and i cannot believe that we're going back for a dlc it makes me very excited about it paris right we have a super chat coming in from c barry who writes and says i don't see many other outlets highlighting fool's theory is also doing the witcher one remake i wonder if they pivoted on that project i did check out their website today c barry and it is still prominent on that uh the game spot article that we have right here at the end says it's a busy time for the witcher franchise currently as not only is there new content on the way for witcher 3 but the first game is getting a remake and the witcher 4 is also in development right now of course outside of that franchise cd pr cdpr is also working on a cyberpunk 2077 sequel and a new cyberpunk edge runners anime series is also in the works so looks like it's still on track who knows you don't know what's going on behind the scenes for you to give you that report but as of right now that website is still promoting a witcher remake oh yeah i mean and it's funny with the witcher remake because uh i'm gonna do a little self-promotion right here go back a couple years ago i actually got to uh interview cd project red for when they they debuted the witcher 4 at the game awards on my youtube channel at paris and though you go check it out um and i remember back then because i kind of kept at Hush Hush.
14:55And I remember talking to him at the time. I was like, I just assumed they were going to show the Witcher remake at that time. That's what I thought it was going to be. But no, it's the Witcher 4. So the fact that we're getting this expansion for Witcher 3, we know the Witcher remake is being made. We know the Witcher 4 is also being made. How they schedule that, how they fit that into the timeline is going to be interesting because they're going to want people to spend a good amount of time with this this uh witcher 3 expansion uh songs of the past but then are you going to give us witcher 4 after that and then hey let's take it all the way back to the beginning with the witcher 1 remake i'm curious what the cadence gonna be so you know we got time obviously it's probably still gonna be a couple years for all that that figures out and then you know cyberpunk is a whole nother beast as far as that goes but it shows you i mean cd project red is busy man they're super busy got a lot of stuff going right now so it looks like starting next year probably for a few years after we're going to get a lot of content from them and then obviously like you mentioned edge runners 2 which i know they're going to show at anime expo this year excited to see what that's going to be and if you have not watched cyberpunk edge runners you absolutely need to go see that it's it's fantastic content but um look i was lucky enough last year I went to the studio just on a random visit so I kind of got a tour of the studio I got to see the new building I think it just opened now it wasn't ready at the time but they're busy they got a lot of stuff going right now so hey if you love The Witcher you love Cyberpunk I think those are just two fantastic IPs that they're putting a lot of TLC into I think like you said parents I think you're going to see the next five to seven years nothing but CDPR right you have a lot of projects in the work I want to kind of touch on it really quick 11 years Paris you talked about it it's a beloved game it is a franchise and now a name Witcher 3 that is in the top 100s of many people's lists but now we return after 11 years do you expect this to be a massive return like a lot of people showing up for this steam numbers popping off this to be really big oh yeah I absolutely think it is it's one of the most beloved games ever made I mean you know look I know I'm glazing a little bit but that's just how much I I've loved this this game so for them to come back with all new content and it's not just hey a little couple dlcs a little couple hey you get to ride roach around and do all the stuff it's like no they're giving you if they're doing an expansion you're getting a full story obviously all new voice acting new quests just everything that's going to be a part of this it's going to be a big deal so yeah i i think you're going to see a lot of people start jumping back into the witcher 3 over the next year or so or you know obviously leading up to when this expansion comes out And when that expansion drops, yeah, I think it will do big numbers for sure.
17:49No word on the Switch. Of course, one of the fun ones was the Switcher back in the day. What do you expect on that? Do you think we'll see more news from that? Maybe a Game of the Year Super Edition for the Switch 2? Do we see this come to that? What do you think? Here's what I think. I think the fact that they were able to do some freaking sorcery and get The Witcher 3 on the original Switch running decently. It actually runs decent. If anyone's played it, they'll know what I mean. and then Cyberpunk 2077 is on Switch 2. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them do a Switch 2 upgrade for The Witcher 3 and get all that running on Switch 2.
18:25It would make a lot of sense. Witcher 4, Paris, I want to go back to the dates one last time. 2027 for this DLC. Do you think Witcher 4 is 2028? Do you think it drops to 2029? This Witcher 1 remake, like you brought up, do you slide that in before, giving The Witcher 4 more time, or do you hit us afterwards with that? if I had to guess, we'll get probably a year from now, we get this DLC, or it's not DLC, this expansion, Songs of the Past, and then maybe another year to a year and a half after that. So maybe it could be May 2028 or holiday 2028, you do Witcher 4, and then maybe 2029, hey, let's take it all the way back to the beginning with the Geralt of Rivia, here's the Witcher 1 remake, and then we get into the 2030s and now they start talking about Cyberpunk.
19:18Paris, it's an exciting time. And you heard Paris with the hype. You've seen Andy over here. That kind of funny game's been playing it all the way through. Great time to jump on. Get ready for this DLC. Let us know in the comments down below. If you're jumping in, can't wait to see the excitement. As you said, Paris, I expect this to be huge, right? When this drops, I can't wait to see all the excitement on social media. The numbers are going to explode for this team. It's going to be a whole lot of fun. Let's go over to story number two. PlayStation delists and shuts down servers for Destruction All-Stars.
19:50This coming from Cade Onder at IGN. PlayStation has unexpectedly pulled the plug on Destruction All-Stars, a live service game released during the PS5's launch window. The game is no longer available for sale, and its servers have been shut down. Those who still own the game can still play the game's arcade mode going up against bots offline. Typically, these kind of shutdowns are announced ahead of time to give players a chance to buy the game or rally others together for some final online matches. But Destruction All-Stars was delisted and shut down seemingly simultaneously. Players were notified via PlayStation notifications.
20:29The game's social media account hasn't been active since 2022 when X was still Twitter. Destruction All-Stars came out in 2021 and received mixed reception. Despite releasing during a drought of games, early PS5 adopters largely rejected the game, even after PlayStation Plus subscribers were given two months for free. We gave the game a 6 out of 10 in our review, noting that although the game had some decent fundamentals, it failed to rise to the occasion as a compelling package. Paris, what does this seem to you? Of course, we've talked about Sony and their live service push, but this is a game that came out in 2021 to a big time mixed reception.
21:11I am surprised that it had its servers running for this long. I thought this was already turned off and gone, but now you have the news today that is delisted and shut down as well. Yeah, I guess that's kind of my reaction as well. I honestly thought it had already been shut down. I remember, like you said, it had a lot of mixed reviews at launch. And I remember I played for just a little bit, but it wasn't for me kind of thing. I'd rather just go play Rocket League if I was going to do something like this. So, yeah, I mean, it stuck around. I mean, what, an extra five years before they decided to go ahead and just shutter it completely.
21:47But it's just another example that we see in this current. Do we call this a live service game, multiplayer game or wherever you're going to see it? It's man, it's tough. It's tough. it's tough to break in with something new in comparison to what people are already comfortable playing. So if you don't grab an audience right away, I, I, I, I don't know how you like, like the final fantasy 14s of the world are very rare where you might stumble out of the gate and then you have a redemption years later. And obviously they, they stopped supporting it. Like you said, what socials stopped even talking about it in 22.
22:30Yeah. So they tapped out on it. They knew. So I'm honestly surprised that it stayed live for so long. Yeah, Paris, this is an interesting beast because, of course, we're talking early PS5 days. You show a destruction derby car vehicular combat type game. And when you put Sony next to that, everyone's mind goes to Twisted Metal. I want Twisted Metal. This should have been Twisted Metal. And we've had this talk with Tim before where he says, I don't know, Mike. I don't think the audience is that big for Twisted Metal game. and I think maybe this is a testing the waters, check it out, or we just don't want to do twisted metal and hold that off.
23:05But I think most people want that, right? But on this side of things, this came out. And like you said, Paris, I've played a thousand of these games at this point of if this doesn't catch fire right off the bat or a game like this, where you were jumping in and out of the cars and the moment that somebody was way too good for the game, you were going to be turning that off pretty quick. And I think this game had a pretty quick skill gap that either you had or you didn't. And unfortunately, couldn't find an audience there. Of course, the article goes on here, Paris, and it goes, the news comes just days after Bungie announced it was winding down support for Destiny 2 and reports that Bungie would suffer, quote, significant, end quote, layoffs.
23:46Although the two instances don't appear to be directly related, it does signal that PlayStation's live service efforts haven't been a success. Helldivers 2 and Gran Turismo 7 appear to be PlayStation's only successful live service games to date. Fair Games is heavily speculated to be getting a re-reveal with a new name very soon. Now, I bring this up, Paris, because, of course, I want to talk Destiny with you. I know you did talk Destiny 2 already with the team, but let's talk about servers shutting down, right? This is a different beast. It's a beloved game with still a large player base, but not massive at this time, right?
24:23we're talking about destiny and bungie but playstation at the top of it all you don't expect anything crazy like this to ever happen with the destiny 2 shutting down right well it's interesting because andy and i last week when it when it broke so we didn't have all the information at the time we did because you know we were speculating hey maybe they're gonna do destiny three right and then we find out nope that is not greenlit and expect layoffs so it's not good bro it's it's it's not i've seen i was just talking destiny specifically i've seen the petitions out there everybody you know the bifes of the world are out there everyone's sharing their memories you know i saw what datto had to say i i think this is it i mean you know like marathon they just came out with the season two trailer they're doubling down on supporting that I get it I understand it but I I'm very worried for Bungie very very worried and this is something I thought I would never say because you're gonna wind up laying off a ton of staff for the Destiny side you're gonna go all in on Marathon after what I was just talking about with Destruction All-Stars I think that applies to Marathon as well I don't see this despite being a game that I like playing, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it'll ever have the numbers to have the long-lasting support for it.
25:47And I think what you're seeing Sony doing overall is they're starting to trim the fat on a lot of these live service games. I mean, we'll see. What is it called? The fair games, what is it called now? Break-In or something? Yeah, fair games. I think the new trademark is Break-In. We don't know if that's 100 % it, but it seems to be, yeah. Outside looking in, doesn't look it doesn't look like it has a long tail. Let's put it that way. I mean, until we actually get hands on with it, who the frick knows. But I just don't see this again having this thriving audience. I look at what they're doing with that Horizon live service game.
26:22Not the art style I would have gone with, number one. I thought they would have leaned into let's go with the Horizon Zero Dawn graphics and we're just making a Monster Hunter clone or something like that. I thought that seemed more appealing. I don't know about this. So to the overall point of what you're saying, nothing will shock me, Mike, anymore in this current climate. As far as servers shutting down, layoffs, studios closing, nothing surprises me. Because I'm starting to realize that unless you're one of the one percenters of these live service multiplayer kind of games, it's very hard to get traction.
26:56Again, unless you're Forza Horizon, A Sea of Thieves, what am I thinking? I want to say Overwatch, something like that. tough man tough area just tough yeah yeah yeah pairs i cannot believe that after the decade plus that we've had with destiny the run with bungie and all the great times and memories i never thought we'd be here right i did think hey we're gonna slow down destiny 2 and go into destiny 3 but i never thought we'd be at this moment right now with bungie that's a a pretty wild story but you want to know what else is wild pairs i got breaking news oh barrett he says no Mike, before we go to breaking news, let's toss the ads.

29:18This coming from Wario 64, Valve raises Steam Deck prices. valve has raised the steam deck prices in the u.s the one terabyte oled model going up from 649 to 949 the 5 the 512 gigabyte oled is going from 549 to 789 they're all still out of stock on the steam store right now uh let's see valve says this coming from valve itself on the steam page here it is uh these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistic challenges across the industry as a whole we'll keep you updated if anything changes read more about the steam deck and its product page steam deck back in stock with updated pricings so there you go you can go check that out right now paris let's take a look at that price one more time the one terabyte OLED,$649 to$949, a$300 price bump.
30:22And then, of course, on the opposite side, the 512 gigabyte OLED coming in at$549,$789 now. Paris, we've talked about the price of all of these components, all of the hardware in the tech space skyrocketing due to the global logistics. You're holding on to yours. You bought in early, so I know you feel good about it. I don't feel good because you know what? Yes, I'm holding on this for dear life because, my God, these prices scare the shit out of me. I just got to be honest. And you don't know why? What the hell is the Steam Machine going to be then? Oh, my God. $1 ,200. Steam Machine, PlayStation 6, the Xbox Helix.
31:03We talk about this every week, and people go, no way. It could be$1 ,000. We are now looking at the Steam Deck 1 terabyte OLED at$949 right now. I'm damn near speechless because to exactly what you said, Mike, what the hell is the steam machine going to be? What is the frame going to be? What the hell is project Helix in the PS six going to be? Oh, I got to rant for a second. I keep saying this. I know you guys say it too. This hobby is on fucking unaffordable. I, this is ridiculous. And I get everything in the world, RAM prices, the straighter whore moves, all this nonsense is going on in the world.
31:48Keep what you got. If you got a Steam Deck now, you better pray it don't break. If you got a Switch, cherish it. You got a damn, look, the console wars are over. Put the games everywhere because can't nobody afford to buy all this stuff anymore. Just put them everywhere. Console wars are over. Consoles are over, parents. I know. This is a wrap, dude. Jesus Christ. This is crazy. I played all weekend on the Xbox ROG Ally Paris as I told you and every day I turn it on I go I can never break this I have to be so gentle with this because I need I'm never getting another one so this is it I have to be gentle with you is what I tell it all the time every time I reboot my PC or my console now I'm going to pray it turns back on oh my god this is this is nuts it's nuts taking these handhelds from 649 and 549 all the way up to almost a thousand and almost eight hundred dollars paris is a wild one right these are you know kind of more accessories right people might buy this as their only console but like we do know that most of this is this is my second thing right this is my accessory to whatever i'm gaming with and to see steam and valve of all people going up this high yeah my worry for the steam machine goes up even higher now paris like let's rewind the clock when the they originally announced the steam machine steam frame and the controller i'm like yep i'm getting them all i gotta get them all i was like i don't need them but i want them now if the steam machine is a thousand plus dollars which just tells me it's definitely going to be very close to that if not more i'm not i can't buy that i it would be irresponsible of me to buy that when i already have a PC.
33:35I got the Steam Deck. I got a PlayStation. I got an Xbox already. I'm very thankful that I got all these things. I cannot imagine in 2026 wanting to get a gaming console or try and build a gaming PC right now. It's insane. And then you're trying to tell me a year from now, we're supposed to reset the clock and go to the next generation and spend$1 ,500 on Helix or whatever the hell it's going to be,$1 ,400,$1 ,500 on a PS6. That's insane. It is absolutely insane. I could not with good conscience be on here and tell someone to go run out and spend that amount of money on these gaming consoles. So, Mike, I'll just say this real quick before you jump in.
34:15What this tells me is Gen 9, buckle the frick up because it will be until the 2030s with these consoles. I was going to bring up I'm waiting for us to rip the Band-Aid off, right? now we go into the dance between these big three right now we talk about valve we talk about playstation we talk about xbox who will be the first to announce who will be the one to rip the band-aid off and say hey maybe it is over a thousand dollars maybe it is so insane and then the rest follows suit right we are now at this point where will they just hold until maybe prices can go down or are we stuck in this global climate right now where one of them will be the first to step up to the plate and have to go, hey, here's how much the next generation is and we'll see where it goes.
Read the full transcript
34:59Barrett, what do you got for me? I'm at the point where I wonder if this next generation gets pushed even further than it already has. It should. It just should. I mean, that's what my follow-up was going to be is Paris and Barrett, of course. When we talk about this, do you keep pushing it back saying, hey, they can hold on to this? Or when they announce this, will the consumers on the opposite side say, well this xbox series x and x or my playstation pro they're just fine right now right i'm not jumping on this gta is coming out on this generation i have no reason to jump to this next thing right now if prices are that insane on top of i'm just trying to make a living and try to make it out every single day i can't afford this i mean i mean think of it this way like we were just talking about all this witcher news right i mean we are already the witcher 4 was going to come on the current consoles we knew that but even if they were thinking hey maybe we just go on ps6 and helix that would be crazy anyone bringing out a new game you have to continue to support these consoles for the next four to five years at least at least because even like like we just said let's let's say they push playstation 6 and helix to 2028 you still got to support gen nine because you can't realistically expect people to then leap to the next one and buy new hardware when we know these games can still run on the current hardware you're going to see a lot of concessions have to be made on some of these newer games i think what this really does is it's going to slow down the advancement of hardware innovation so and i guess when i say hardware innovation where these games can take advantage of the new hardware because you can't realistically expect people to buy the new hardware not at these prices it's it's insane yeah it is absolutely insane you know we'd already been saying this for the last couple years but you were better off buying an xbox or a playstation in 2020 than you are in 2026 this is unprecedented that crazy that we're going up in the generation pairs like you said and yeah baird's been bringing up a lot of the prices flashing you uh what the playstation 5 and the xbox is currently right now We got a lot of super chats in.
37:13Bear, talk to me. Yeah, just to really harp on that point that Paris brought up. Yeah, with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, both coming in at roughly$650 each. We are at nearly six years of these consoles being out. These six-year-old hardware, nearly six-year-old hardware is getting close to$700. Yeah. What is the solution here? other than to wait it out. I think maybe these companies are a little bit insane enough to go, you know what, fuck it, we're only going to sell to our top 10 % of consumers and we'll make that back, putting it up into the thousands here, and maybe we'll cut a little bit of the loss, but we'll regain and selling games on the older gens and all this shit.
38:04Of course. And hopefully we'll wait out the economic turmoil that we've seen due to ai due to tariffs due to again yes uh this insane war that we have uh forced iran into in closing the strait of hormuz that is fucking up the entire global economy and we as a country at least here in america we have barely even begun to feel those ramifications truly agreed I just thought of another point You know who's Really loses out with all these Crazy prices and everything The hardcore Xbox fans Because we saw the player voice thing Everyone that was like we want Xbox to go back to exclusives How? And to say it this way PlayStation we already know there's 90 million plus out there right So they got a good supply It's in people's hands Let's be generous 35, 40 million Xboxes are out there right now.
39:03If you were to make all these new games exclusive back to Xbox, how can you realistically expect tens of millions of people to go buy hardware at these prices? You got, you got to have the access points for these games. You got to make them available to people. So I know a lot of people will not be happy with me saying that, but I'm just trying to be logical about it. If you want everyone to play all these great games that we know are coming, I can't only sell them to 30 or 40 million people but I got to try and sell it to everybody right maybe that gets decided not through you know economic headwinds and maybe we put it up to a Twitter poll you know and maybe they'll decide I'm sure Asha and her team right now are going over all the numbers like you said Paris and Barrett of course we've talked about it before and yes they might be holding off for maybe another extra year before we start diving deep into the next generation of consoles here hey hey i do not envy asha sharma right now because she is just coming into a hornet's nest because you you you got to try to figure out how do i piece my core audience that will go spend 1500 for helix by the way keep them happy but then still gotta i still gotta run a business and i still gotta make sure that these games are available to as many people to actually go buy them.
40:27You know, so, hey, God bless the West who made the big bucks, I guess. Let's jump into a couple quick super chats here. Tricky Kappa writes in and says, it seemed like the Steam Machine was meant to be a gateway to PC gaming for the general public with that now likely pushing a thousand. Is it dead on arrival, Paris? At those prices, like I just said, I was going to get it just to get it. Didn't I put it in the bedroom or something just to say I have it, right? but I can't justify spending$1 ,000 for it, especially at the performance level that we know the Steam Machine is. Of course. You know?
41:03It will be very interesting. Like I said, I can't wait to see the three of them announce this and see where we're at and where this comes out to. It will be an exciting time. Jay writes in and says, with all these rising console costs, PC gaming is looking more like the best place to play, and you don't have to pay for a sub to play online. Paris, is PC gaming? becoming more and more interesting to possibly play and maybe the best place to play personally i think it is for a lot of the things that you're saying i think it's it's the most versatile place to play and then you don't have these online paywalls as well um and again this is what the steam machine was going to be able to do it was going to take that pc experience and bring it to your living room television and make it all very easy hit the power button pick up the controller i'm playing the games whereas again at these prices do i get a playstation or do i go get a steam machine people are going to just stick with a console you know for the living room experience because steam machine is going to be underpowered and you might as well just keep what you have again so what i think i definitely was on board with that at first but then i realized like yeah but the gpus have all gone up as well right it's not like the pc prices haven't skyrocketed as well so i think it's a tough place no matter where you're at you're kind of like paris said you're probably settled into where you're at and you're going to stay here firmly for quite some time before you make that next switch of oh i did want to leave consoles and go to pc or vice versa right i think we're all going to be kind of probably just sitting and remaining for a little bit here agreed paris that was an exciting one uh make sure to check out the prices there again before you jump in, but let's go over to story number four.
42:48Dragon Quest 12 will take longer to come out after the team decided to start from scratch. This coming from Ethan Gotch at Kotaku. Dragon Quest 12 Beyond Dreams is going to take longer than expected to come out. How long exactly? Well, Square Enix didn't say on the 40th anniversary livestream for the franchise, but producer Yusuke Saito did confirm that the development team decided to reboot the RPG and RPG project and quote, start from scratch, end quote. He said that the development team has been reshuffled and that while things are now progressing more smoothly, it's going to take longer than expected to deliver Dragon Quest XII, a game fans have been waiting on since the last entry in the series arrived back in 2017.
43:36Paris, are you a Dragon Quest guy? And what, of course, what do you think about the team starting from scratch? i used to be back in the day but i i've not kept kept up in the newer dragon quest games um sometimes starting from scratch is good right i i have no problem with that if that's going to allow you to make the best possible game you know that you can so yeah i think it's okay yeah i think this is a beloved franchise here paris right and they have a diehard audience i'm not one of them But I'm actually a new casual player interested in more Dragon Quest. Right. I jumped on Dragon Quest 7, reimagined myself, Roger and Greg played a good amount of that game.
44:17And I really enjoyed my time with it, getting lost in the world. And I am one of those new casual players that's like, hey, I'd like to learn more about Dragon Quest. Yeah. And if this interests me, I would jump in. Yeah. You know what, Mikey, with your newfound love of JRPGs and going in and, you know, pandering to the audience, believing in the audience. I would say, it seems like, with them restarting, it seems like we're still a few years out from Dragon Quest XII, which looks gorgeous. It's insane. Maybe try Dragon Quest XI. You might fuck with it. You know, Paris, and Barrett knows I've opened up my heart, and I'm trying new games.
44:59I'm exploring franchises I've never had before. And as Barrett brought up, bringing up this footage, it looks cool. I'm definitely interested in the world and so I'll put that in my back pocket maybe 11 is going to be for me Barrett I like that let's go over to a game that was for me and could then once again be for me one more time story number 5 Rayman Legends remake dubbed retold leaks online this coming from Andrew Heighton at Insider Gaming there's a logo on Blue Sky that's BS Tim we reported a couple years ago that Rayman Legends remake was in the works at ubisoft and it's one of the projects that's managed to dodge recent cancellations a rayman legends retold logo has appeared online and we can happily reveal this is real insider gaming understands that the reveal of rayman legends retold aka project steam bot is expected within the next week and uh within the next week and the game is scheduled to release on October 1st, 2026.
46:01It's the perfect gift for Rayman. It's the perfect gift for Rayman and platforming fans with summer game fest, 2026 season around the corner. The Rayman legends retold logo suddenly appeared and began circulating on social media on May 27th today. Paris, are you a big Rayman guy? Yeah, I like Rayman. It's a fun franchise. I would say even this, cause I saw this earlier. Look, we're in, we're in the age of remakes. and remasters. So for this to come back, you know, do some update things, get some lessons learned from the past, and kind of update it for the modern audience, I think. Yeah. I'd be all for it to see this, yeah.
46:39Yeah, they just had the remake collection, or just the collection brought back, and I started playing through number one, which was my childhood game a long, long time ago. I didn't stick with the franchise to get to Legends, so I am interested in this, because I believe there's a lot of love for this one paris in particular so yeah i i will definitely jump into this as rayman has a a soft spot in my heart and nostalgia always somehow wins paris when we talk about just rebooting the same games over and over again we got to do it hey but you know what ubisoft's finally uh being able to achieve that with this uh apparently and then a black flag where they were really struggling with other remakes for years uh yeah this and origins mikey are fucking great 2d platformers i i'm hearing that you know whether it's good business yes are we running out of ideas yes is ubisoft going deep into their playbook to see if anybody will latch on to the ips that they own sure but if this whatever this remake is is an excuse for people to check out rayman legends possibly for the first time hell yeah it's a great game and more people should that's how i look at it that's how i look at it too it'll be a great excuse to get it get a new audience in there now i will say this as we're talking, UB.
47:56Where the hell is Splinter Cell? My God, just please. What are you doing? Of all the IPs they got just sitting, collecting dust, Splinter Cell. I'll just take the remake at this point. Just remake it. Just start it over, please. Something. We're going to Black Flag first. We've got enough Assassin's Creed. Can I say this? Can I say this? Look, this steam machine got me fired up today, obviously. We've had enough Assassin's Creed. I got plenty of Assassin's Creed I don't have enough Splinter Cell I need Sam Fisher please as someone who's excited for the Black Flag remake yes we've had enough Assassin's Creed they need to take note look at James Bond, look at IO Interactive Hitman works, people like stealth games, they want to return to Sam Fisher they love your franchise you gotta figure it out, I don't know how they keep dancing around to Paris's rights don't worry we'll get another ghost recon you know whatever wildlands 2 yeah I can't wait to see what we do next over there Far Cry with AI is going to be my nightmare Paris because I love Far Cry so much and they're going to do something weird with that I'm sure and I'm going to be upset oh I'm sure they will Paris we have a lot of stories still left on it so I'm going to I'm going to breeze through one of them and then we might circle back to a couple other ones but story number 7 Planet Zoo 2 all but confirmed following YouTube page update this coming from Vicky Blake at IGN Frontier Developments may not have formally announced a sequel to the delightful zoo sim Planet Zoo but it hasn't stopped someone trimming up the game's YouTube channel with some not so subtle hints that Planet Zoo 2 is on the way as spotted by our friends at Euro Gamer if you head over to the series official YouTube page you'll find both the head and the avatar image as has been updated with a two on the end this isn't a clue as much as a full confirmation even though there's been no firm announcement yet it's not entirely a surprise of course frontier did tease that the follow-up game was in the works when it released a trailer celebrating the sim's sixth anniversary at the end of last year however it's our closest clue yet that the game isn't just in development but could shortly be out.
50:20Maybe we'll find out more as we move into Summer Game Fest. I picked this story because I love Frontier and all of their sim games. I love Planet Coaster. I love Planet Zoo. I'm totally in for right there, Paris. I've never played Planet Zoo. Okay. I'm highly aware of it, but I've never actually sat down and played it, but I know that it's very popular, so for them to come with two is pretty big deal everybody loves cute animals paris we always dream of owning our own zoo and running that and getting to take care of the animals make an awesome exhibit for people to go out and see so it's like i love it it's perfect i really enjoyed the jurassic park games i think they nailed that sim over there are you a big sim guy paris we never talked about sim games like this before you and i one more turn mike huge civ fan love civ love civilization that that's my yeah i like that and now i put sim in a different sim game right i put that as more like strategy i guess it's similar but i guess like i think when i think of these games like park simulation i think of like park ownership did you ever get the roller coaster tycoon sim city again my daughter actually was big in a roller roller toaster roller coaster tycoon but just talking along that like sim city like bro i take it all the way back to the nes version of SimCity.
51:46Paris, I love this. I'm excited for Planet Zoo, but my one request is like, hey, I've already gotten the Zoo game. I've gotten the Roller Coaster Tycoon game. It's time to bring it back. Paris, I want to get back to Golf Sims. I want to design my own golf courses. I want to go back to Sid Meier's Golf. Bring me back. Did you ever, and I was just talking about this a few weeks ago at an undisclosed location, but But do you remember way back in the day when Xbox had XS in sports? No. You don't. Oh, you don't. You don't remember that. Okay. So it was like football, basketball, and you could play in like these leagues.
52:26Well, you bring up golf. They had Lynx. They had Lynx 2004, I think it was. I love Lynx. Love Lynx. That was the Friday night game with the boys. We would play it every Friday night. Catch up. Hey, how the family doing? Like all that. And we would just play it. And then I got so addicted to it. I literally joined an XN Sports League and was playing Lynx in that for a while as well, but then people started cheating so I quit. XNS Sports is the quick overview from AI, so take it with a grain of salt but Xbox Sports Network was a defunct brand and online service for sports video games published by Microsoft Game Studios between 2003 and 2004 for the original Xbox.
53:07Paris, that's crazy. That's awesome. AJ Tesserero's dad Big Phil who would sit in the recliner in a dark room in the corner whenever we came over would sit there and watch hockey games but we got links and it was the first time that AJ's dad ever spoke to any of the children that walked through the door he loved playing links with us we had so much fun playing that golf game with this mobster Italian father who never talked to anyone it was the best time I'll never forget it man shout out to AJ's dad that was great Big Phil. Paris, you know what? I love Big Phil. He was big. He was wholesome. He was a good guy.
53:43Even though he didn't talk much to me. I ate a lot of his donuts, so I apologize, Big Phil. I loved those chocolate donuts, but if Big Phil was too big for me and I wanted something smaller, where would I go? Mike, you'd go to our last story. The We News Channel will recover all the small news items you need to know about. For our live listening audience out there, there was a couple news stories that I did skip. I'll quickly tell you just the headlines of them. You can go look for them or I'll save them for tomorrow. Hideo Kojima and Nicholas Winding Refn have teamed up for a Prada Mode event teaser exploring new creative possibilities through AI technology.
54:25Go check that one out. We might slide that in for tomorrow. Then Magic the Gathering will be slowing down new releases so we'll be checking that out as well. Me and Blessing, I'm sure we'll talk about it. Let's jump into Wii news that I already had scheduled. IGN reports that Capcom has finally released a Resident Evil Requiem demo allowing you to try the Game of the Year contender for free. Shout out to demos. Shout out to Resident Evil Requiem. Go check that out. Producer of Tides of Annihilation, Kung Fu, confirmed in an official video that the studio will host a hands-on event this summer offering the public their first opportunity to experience the game's Neo-medieval combat firsthand.
55:07Detailed schedules, locations, and platform requirements will be shared via official social media channels soon. Shout out demos. Let's get after it. I love that. Marathon Season 2 begins June 2nd. Paris, are you jumping into that? Maybe. Maybe. Okay, I like that. Maybe. Today, as a part of a year-long celebration, Sonic's 35th anniversary, Sega announced Sonic Live in concert featuring iconic moments and music from the very first game in 1991 through today. The tour will debut in the U.S. at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on September 26, 2026, before making its European premiere at London's Aventium Apollo on September 30th.
55:58Shout out. And then our final one. Barrett, bring it up. Let's watch this one because I am in. Paris, that's all the wee news I got for you. You and I, big day today. We got some super chats coming in that I'm going to quickly hit. But first, I'm going to check out You're Wrong. Of course, we ask you watching live on YouTube and on Twitch to keep us honest throughout each and every show of Kind of Funny Games Daily. If we mess up, let us know in You're Wrong by fact-checking us and hitting us with the facts.
57:19Paris, you and I, no problems at all. We're on it. Let's jump into some super chats before we get out of here. Co-op 64 says it's an X-Cast throwback. Let's go. Thank you, Co-op 64. And Paris, it's great to talk Xbox games and games with you in general. Summer Game Fest right around the corner. What are you excited for? Let's keep it Xbox. What are you excited for from Xbox with their big reveals? And of course, I can tell you what I'm disappointed in. What? You're not going to be with me at Summer Game Fest. That's what I'm disappointed in. Greg, you suck. let's go to you and I let's go you and I go to Greg you and I go to Greg let's say hey Xbox is going to host some fan events throughout the year around the globe let's circle one let's get Mike and Paris there let's call up Gary let's go to Mexico let's call up Gary maybe we get our boy Major Nelson let's get the boys back in town let's go have some fun together yes he needs to make it happen but to be serious to answer your question what honestly gears of war e-day man oh that's the one for me i i've been waiting for this for 20 years i mean anyone that's played gears of war the the opening of the game telling you the story of emergence day is something i've always wanted to see and we're going to literally get to play it i can't wait cannot wait so that's number one on my list um i'm obviously just curious to see are we going to see more fable get an actual release date on it because i'm fascinated to see what that release date is going to be.
58:53Do we see state of the K three there? We get in clockwork revolution. Blade is one that it's about time. I think we could might see some actual gameplay for blade. So, I mean, they got a lot of stuff, a lot of stuff that they could potentially show at the showcase. And it's the 25th anniversary too. So I think they'll, they'll make a pretty big deal of this as well. So what are we less than two weeks now? It should be exciting. And I'll be there. I'll be, I'll be sitting in the crowd right there watching it while you're in the studio, Mike, because Greg didn't have to come down. Go say hi to Paris, please.
59:28Make his day. Have a wonderful time at Summer Game Fest and the Big Xbox Showcase. I'm so pumped up. Paris, you named all the big heavy hitters. I'm excited to see InXile again with Clockwork Revolution. They did a great job last summer. I'm excited to see what they do this time. I think it will be a little probably tighter from them, but I think it's going to be bombastic. I think it's going to wow us once again. state of the K3, Paris, what's up? But the big four is all I care about this year, right? Forza, Gimme Gears, Halo, and Fable. If Fable can launch, let's just say, this year into maybe next year by February, it's a pretty solid year from Xbox, because we've been blessed with Diablo DLC, World of Warcraft DLC, we know Call of Duty's going to be somewhere in the mix, we know there's more KILN from Double Fine, we've had a great start right now and it looks like it's going to continue to get better yeah absolutely but going back to what you said about fable playground has quadrupled down on it's coming this year so it's not getting pushed into 2027 it is coming this year and this is the gta six of things where do you put it i i'm dying to know so i would assume that they're going to say something in in june where do you put all these things sky rodent says to the person who counterpicked The Witcher DLC and my fantasy critic.
1:00:48Well played, sir. Shout out right there. Of course, fantasy critic. Make sure to go check it out. I think there's a guy, a returning champion that might be number one on the leaderboards right now. We'll see. Snowback Mike, your current leader. But I think somebody might have passed me. Damn, I'm in last?
1:01:09Yes. Looks like Tim Gettys has shot up to first now with, I believe, James Bond first light. So congratulations to Tim Geddes now and first Paris. You're in last. You better get up big dog. Yeah, I got, I got to get on it, man. And he bumped up a spot because of the, you know, the, the hollower reviews today, which he will be reviewing right after this. But don't forget, I got some bangers coming. You got some bangers. Yeah. I got some bangers coming. No one tell Roger cause he's out of office, but he's the one who got the Witcher three DLC, which is a hilarious payoff there for him. Okay. Trying to bust through a lot of these super chats really quick to keep it type because we've got a massive day here for you that you don't want to miss out on the content.
1:01:48We're having a kind of funny happy hour where you can call in and hang out with us later this afternoon, so please do that. EJ RPG writes in and says, Dragon Quest 12 was originally titled Flames of Fate and was going to have a darker theme, which they were reportedly having issues getting working with the signature art style. Okay, okay. And then Nightlife writes in and says, Mike playing Warcraft 3 and Paris Civ Online. Hey, Mike and Paris, we're playing it all. We play as much as we can. We love playing games. And you know what else we do? We love talking video game news with you here at Kind of Funny.
1:02:24Of course, I Kind of Funny Games Daily. That's Paris. I'm Mike. I want to say one thing on the record before you go. I want this on the record because we're going to make this happen. Gears of War E-Day comes out. I'm coming to the studio. We're running through it in co-op. Let's do it. Deal, Paris. Let's make it. Mike and Paris playing Gears of War E-Day. and Mike and Paris, let's try to get down to Mexico. Let's bring Gary. Let's go have some fun at FanFest. There's Paris' YouTube channel. Look at that right now. Is that 271 ,000? Oh, hell no. It's 20 ,000. I'm lazy, man. I don't have my glasses on.
1:02:59Yeah, yeah. Nah, but as you can see right there at the top, Richard Four interview I did at the Game Rewards, CD Projekt Red. Go check that out.
