0:49Tim Gettys:what is up everybody and welcome to kind of funny games daily for tuesday august 11th 2026 can anyone see us we don't know we might be ghosts i'm roger recording and today i'm joined by the amazing lucy james from looking for game not looking for dot game either works oh either works either works but i don't mind thank you roger how are you doing today i'm doing well thanks how are you good uh you beat us to the office you beat everybody uh you had a little meeting it was kind of a little surprise was fun i did i genuinely when i started the call i was interviewing some developers for Friday's issue and I was like, just so you know, I'm in the kind of funny office.
1:28They don't know that I'm here and all the lights are off and I really think I will scare someone. I didn't, you were one phase.
1:36Tim Gettys:No, I was actually, I was kind of happy. I was like, oh, okay, cool. She's here. She's ready. She's got everything. She's going. Tell me about Looking For Game. Tell me what's going on. What is happening in the world over there? Well, it's a weekly newsletter. We get more than once a week, but you get like indie game recommendations that I kind of curate, send out, send out the demo so you can give it a try. It has been so busy. There are so many games. Discoverability is obviously such a huge problem and so there have been so many fantastic things to wade through. I am very excited for this week because it could be something in the Kinetic Games.
2:13I can't stop about. And I say that with like, I'm trying not to hint to what it is. Honestly, you probably wouldn't even guess. I think it's something really special and I had such a good chat with developers this morning. So that's coming out on Friday. I've also got a review of something coming out on Thursday, like a short review type thing because I also have different pieces of content that go out. So things like You Gotta Play, which is sort of my mini review thing for games that are already out and I'm trialing something new next week. So please be excited. But no, it's going great. It's so busy.
2:46The emails. The thing about emails is once you reply, people reply back. That's tough. And never stop. That's tough. It's like getting friends and everything. It's like, ugh, now you have to talk to them and everything. It's like you want it, but you don't want it. You know what I mean? No, but also it's great. And the community in the Discord is wonderful. So if you are a paid subscriber, you can get in there. And they're all just sharing game recommendations, having a good time, set up some VC channels. I am such a boomer with Discord. I have no idea how it works, man. What the hell is a boost?
3:15Tim Gettys:All the... You gotta get people to boost it. Why did the boost run out? You gotta get people to boost it. You gotta get that 4K... You have to get people to boost it? You gotta get people to boost it. They gotta pay money. No, they gotta use their Disco... They gotta get their Discord Nitro, and then they gotta boost it, so then you can, I guess, have more emotes? I think that's how that works. I think you can boost it yourself, though. You can boost it. You don't want to... You don't need that. I've already been doing that. You've been boosting? Well, because I want... They've already paid to get it.
3:38Tim Gettys:So you've been boosting? What is it? You've been boosting in the corner? get a nuke in Call of Duty that's a little teaser right there because we are of course sponsored by Kinetic Publishing Showcase not Lucy's thoughts but also we are going to be reacting to that showcase so right there boom I'm excited for everyone to see that but we have a lot of news to get into and a lot of video game stuff to talk about so let's just get right into it blueberry in my throat oh my gosh if you're watching live be a part of the show by super chatting on youtube.com slash kind of funny games We couldn't do this without our Patreon producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny.
4:14So thank you, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Delaney the Psalm Twining, and Lax Nomad.
4:19Tim Gettys:For now, let's begin with whatever. Whoa. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It's time for some news. Six stories today. Baker's Dozen. Wow. I like that, Kevin. Story number one. Some unfortunate news. Until Dawn and Little Nightmares 3 studio Supermassive announces further layoffs with as many as 75 people expected to lose their jobs. This is from Matt Wales over at Eurogamer. Supermassive, the UK studio best known for its cinematic horror games including Until Dawn, The Quarry and the Dark Pictures Anthology series, has announced more layoffs, this time affecting as many as 75 employees.
5:04Quote, we have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues. The studio wrote in a statement shared on social media, this is a necessary step to ensure the sustainability of our company. We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, it added, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted. Today's planned redundancies mark Supermassive's third round of job cuts in the last two years. In July 2025, it announced layoffs affecting up to 36 employees, saying the move was necessary to adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes.
5:52That followed confirmation of a quote reorganization in February 2024, which the company said would impact some of its team. While the studio statement didn't expand on that number, a report by Bloomberg claimed 150 employees had been told their jobs were at risk and that 90 redundancies were expected. supermassive most recently released its cinematic sci-fi horror adventure directive 8020 the fifth entry in its dark picture anthology series which launched to mixed reviews in may that was preceded by little nightmares 3 last october which saw supermassive take over the much loved horror series from original studio uh tarsier with equally mixed results i'm sad news yeah coming out of the UK.
6:41Yeah, Supermassive. Man, I didn't realize... I mean, did you play Directive 80-20?
6:47Tim Gettys:No, I didn't. Have you? I liked the look of the original... I was there at Gamescom a couple years ago when they revealed it, very much like the thing. But I don't... Yeah, I mean, their games just haven't been hitting sadly, and like... It's a tough space right now. It's a very tough space, and if you're not getting any kind of hits in at all, then this is sadly what happens, because of the escape that we live in. And it's interesting, because like, I think a lot of people see horror as a subgenre in movies and video games that you can really find some success in. And I think, sadly, there's been a few missed opportunities from Supermass specifically of taking over Little Nightmares 3, which was, in hindsight, not the right call because you have Re-Animal right here, which is...
7:32Coming out at the same time.
7:33Tim Gettys:Coming out around the same time. People who was a known quantity. People knew that it was the original Little Nightmares people doing that. So it's like, okay, well, do I really want this thing that's not from the original thing? Oh, it's not that great. I'm not going to try it out. And then on top of this, this is the long anthology series that they've been working on. But space, horror, it didn't seem like it worked out when it came to those reviews. So sadly, it was just kind of like a drop in the bucket. Yeah. And as well, they're not doing Until Dawn 2. No, no. That is Fire Sprites. So Fire Sprite, they're doing?
8:04They did the Alloy VR game. aloy drinks sprite is the way that we remember it kind of funny that's how we do that i get fire sprite mixed up with fire shine no fire shine
8:20Tim Gettys:the publisher oh and no and then there's another fire stop it there's a then that was the playstation one that i think was closed but fire fire not sprite there's fire from the fire walk maybe something like that no fire walk yes um concord yes fire walk a lot of fires the industry's on fire yeah the industry is on fire yes yeah no i mean this is such a shame and yeah i think losing until dawn 2 that's a real yeah that's a real pain yeah that's one that like i i kind of put i know it's not the same thing but i kind of put like them in like don't nod and like kind of the same category of like developers that had this one franchise that were really really well and then you move on it's like okay you have some success but it's like you're floundering to try to find your one thing and even when you go back to it like i think honestly the quarry was like the closest thing yeah they had and i just i'm pretty surprised that they're like hey we're not going to try to do the quarry too we're not going to try to continue that maybe it's just too expensive because it's like you have to kind of get a lot of actors and kind of get people in the booth for that one but yeah i was i was very surprised that they're like hey we're going to try to make this new change in the dark pictures anthology series make it sci-fi which i don't know to me like sci-fi horror never isn't like the thing that people are necessarily looking for like unless it's really great but yeah i mean that yeah well you're trying to think of no i'm i'm just like you know dead space event horizon like i love alien like i look yeah yeah but i yeah it's just a shame and yeah i think the thing about this is like it's in the uk so you have to You can't just lay people off.
9:55You have to go through a consultancy period, like this redundancy period, I think, in some cases can take like a month. And so it's also the mental strain for the people who are still, like, who are working there, who are like, well, I just have to sit and wait for a month to see if I still have a job. Do you have any insights to that? I have no idea how that works. Personally, I have never gone through it. Yeah. I can only say, you know, stories from other people. Yeah. There's just a lot of waiting around and kind of figuring out what it's going to be. It's almost like a foregone conclusion almost.
10:25You know what's going to happen, and then you're just waiting for it. I don't know, because I think sometimes it can be placed in consultancy and then you find out that you're safe. So yeah, that's awful. And it's sort of like the burden that folks at Xbox are still under. It's like, hey, we had those almost 2 ,000 layoffs, and then we're going to have almost 2 ,000 more. And you're just going to have to wait. Yeah, and then we talked about that yesterday with Blizzard, their internal memo that was leaked. We're the most successful studio! We're great! We're awesome! Don't look at us! It's just so sad feeling the energy within now supermassive, but also just around the industry of these things are looming, these things are happening, and it's just a matter of time.
11:07That's also, I mean, we haven't heard about what's happening with Arcane yet, either. I mean, French worker protection laws are even stricter than the UK. Yeah. um so yeah i don't know i just seems like america should have some of those maybe we should uh figure out something yeah sorry to the folks it's super massive absolutely but story number two let's look at some special edition consoles let's let's take a take a hard left turn over here look at some cool interesting special edition consoles uh first look at marvel's limited marvel's wolverine limited edition ps5 console bundle and accessories here it is lucy you get the consoles you get the ps5 digital edition bundle and accessories which is the controller okay uh i'm gonna i'm gonna say something tell me oh it's real unfortunate the mad cats of it all oh let's talk about it let's talk about it it does is that unfortunate or is that a big plus
12:02Tim Gettys:or is that a big plus i mean like mad cats is is that as an all-time high of nostalgia this could be the moment as the younger sibling sure yeah or everyone just hates that everyone Yeah, look at it. See, they got four, though. They got four. I mean, this is legally distinct. This is three. This is the Wolverine three, everybody. Yeah. I mean, you know what? I actually don't mind it. I actually prefer the yellow one to the white one. Yeah, I'm not mad at it. It just... It wouldn't go in the color scheme in my room. Actually, the white one doesn't even go. I need to... You have a color scheme going on with the consoles?
12:37No, just my house.
12:38Tim Gettys:Oh, okay. What's your color? Would you have a... Um, so blush pink, like ashy blues, some greens. I've got a green couch. Um, and then a lot of warm wood tones. Oh, okay. Okay. And then in my bedroom, it's literally like that dark blue. Oh. All like floor to ceiling. Um, and then my bathroom is like a really nice sage green. Oh, okay. I like that. Very colorful. I'm allowed to paint. Oh, wow. The landlord actually allowed you to paint. That's incredible. Uh, what is the, so what's the console that sticks out the most? That you hate the most? that i hate the most yeah in terms of in terms of design in your house there has to be one that's like why is this thing and i just wish the playstation 5 was a box just a normal box the thing is is that aesthetically i don't mind it it's just the fact that the stand doesn't stick and so if i'm moving it to plug in the i have a hard spare drive at the back yeah well let me tell you a little secret lucy for maybe five years didn't use the stand didn't even realize idea to use the stand that's insane wait wait how are you standing it though yeah yeah yeah oh okay yeah i'm doing vertical didn't even use that stand people looked at me crazy like oh it's like air and stuff i'm like it's fine it has no idea yeah no i mean i i just maybe you know what i i assume if i go on etsy there will be a stand that i can just oh yeah it will actually stick someone with 3d print it'll make it out uh let me read you just a little bit uh from the graphic artist that made this.
14:04His name is Jock. He says, I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel's Wolverine limited edition PS5 console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my art traditionally, so the opportunity to many cutting-edge hardware with, sorry, to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I'm stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, uh bringing wolverine to life in a completely unique way uh kevin can we scroll down they have some more photos like just if you get a little bit closer with it oh is there a trailer too yeah they have a little like uh teaser trailer it's gonna it's gonna play some music so uh but yeah this is the thing yeah i like it i like the color i'm not mad at this yeah i actually like the the half like the top section being like half like the the black yeah pretty sick yes okay And then we got a secondary one over here.
15:00This is some alleged images of a leaked 40th anniversary Switch 2 and Pro Controller. It's from Centro Leaks, if we can pull that up and look at the images right here. But yeah, this is not confirmed, everybody, but this is from Centro Leaks, who is mostly correct. There we go. Okay. I mean, didn't they already do one that looks like this? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, to me it's just like all the Zelda stuff kind of... I'm not a huge Zelda person, so this kind of just all blends in, but yeah, I'm fine with that. Yeah, I mean, well, no, I guess the other one was gold. Yeah, this is the one over here. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:39Yeah, they did the Switch Lite and then they had the dock over there. Someone said, I'm ready to complete the Triforce. Lucy, what do you think about this and will you be buying this 40th edition? Ooh. Oh, why? I mean, I... You're not the biggest Zelda person in the world. I'm not the biggest Nintendo person. I mean, I'm very excited for Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem is going to be my jam. You will catch me over there. But I don't really go for a special edition console.
16:06Tim Gettys:Yeah, I don't think I've ever had a special edition console. Unless it was like, I think Leanza has one, but that was just like the perfect timing of like, oh, she wanted it. But like, I'm buying my consoles mostly at launch or around launch. So it's like, I'm not double dipping you. No, I got the, the only one that I have is because I, oh, I have two. Oh. Okay. I didn't buy these one of them was from GameSpot we obviously all had consoles to capture and do stuff at work I had the PS4 Spider-Man one the red one it's nice I still have that also I am lying because I did steal the Gears of War Xbox One from the kind of funny so I do have that at the house my Xbox One yeah that's the boy that's the one That's hot.
16:54It's real nice. Yeah, I think that was Greg's for a while. Greg had one of those. God, that's hot. Well, my other one comes from Greg. Oh. It's the Taco Bell Xbox One X. And it makes the... When you turn it on. I can't believe that.
17:09Tim Gettys:Because I gotta be honest, when I came to this company, I looked around for it. I looked around because I knew we had it and I looked around for it. It was in my room. I was looking around for this fucking console and I found the Gears one. I was like, I guess I'll take this one. I wanted the Taco Bell one. God. Oh, I have it. I have another one. How many Taco Bell consoles do they send me? I also have a Gears one. Okay, so we both... You have all the things I wanted. I was like, who works here? Dan Reichert? Yeah. But no, it's great. And so I used to use that one when I was streaming as my...
17:38To play discs on.
17:40Tim Gettys:Remember those? Remember those? I know. Well, because it was like the only... I was streaming Metal Gear Solid 2 at the time. And I was like, find it on a disc. Any hype for either of these games? Wolverine and potentially... I'm excited for Wolverine. I really enjoyed Insomniac Spider-Man games and Miles Morales games I yeah I mean Zelda I will see what they what's your history with Zelda? I still have one I'm just not I like playing them I'm just never really super hyped about it that doesn't make for exciting viewing I'm sorry but no in terms of Wolverine is definitely on my list when is it out?
18:17Is it out September? let me check it out everything else is out everything's all together for me uh what marvel's wolverine is coming out september 15th 2026 if i'm done with onimusha and blood of dawn walker by then because that's the thing it's like if you're talking about if i'm ranking september games let's do it you've got what for me you've
18:41Tim Gettys:got control no this is the definitive ranking by the way this is not for lucy this is the definitive ranking and everyone can get mad at you on the internet okay no this is your personal ranking. Yeah, we've got Control, Fire Emblem, Silent Hill, Onimusha, Blood of Dawnwalker, Wolverine. Those are the six games. In that order? Those are the six AAAs that I want to play. Oh. Control. Number one. Dawnwalker. Dawnwalker 2. Silent Hill. Fire Emblem. Onimusha. Wolverine Fire Emblem was that low though You were so hyped about Fire Emblem Silent Hill I played like 3-4 hours a time Me too You were there We were both there We played the game Because I'm British I lived there I lived there I think if Weirdly enough Blood of the Dawnwalker even though I like kind of know nothing about it everything I've heard from Andy I'm like this is this could be the one this could be I think it's got the juice it's I think it might got the juice I am a noted Wolverine hater at this company why no not really it's more of like I just it doesn't excite me like I've seen so much Wolverine and like also I'm like born in 99 like my entire life has been Wolverine like he's the guy yeah like he's the number one guy and like I've seen this motherfucker's origin story and every I know everything about you can't you can't tell me anything i just for me like i love the insomniac spider-man games because of the swinging and of course there's elements of the stories that i like but like the swinging and like traversal is just god tier and like for me like unless you got something like that i'm not as interested in what a triple a insomniac wolverine game is because i've i've played wolverine games that i like before and they're fine my fear is that he'll move like uh catwoman in batman arkham city that is such a that is such an that is perfect it's so specific and I feel it and I actually that is my biggest fear too if I have to time anything I don't want to have to do that that was so disappointing playing that it's like oh man I can play a cat woman I can run around it's just like uh hopping on the side incredible alright wait what are yours I've done mine so it's is orbitals also in September oh my god don't I think no or was that October i thought it was october but i i just i have not played any fire emblem games that's not up there but silent hill i think it's it has to be blood of the dawn walker and then wolverine is honestly like number three so it's not that far off and probably silent hill is number two hot wheels and minecraft dungeons too i'm in a minecraft kick right now i'm in a minecraft kick that means i'm depressed that means i just i need something in my life so i mean you know my i could open my heart to my dungeons too i can make that happen i can make that happen um but of course one of the games that we talked about is Control Resonant, which is going to be, actually, that's my number, that's my number one.
21:38That's my number one, it has to be. And we'll talk more about Control Resonant after a word from our sponsors. You know what I love? This is from Remedy. Remedy. Sorry. A must-have day one purchase. Remedy bets big on Control Resonant as Alan Wake 2 passes 3 million. Sold this from Tom Phillips over at IGN. alan wake and control developer remedy is betting big on control resonant as alan wake 2 finally passes 3 million sold remedy's latest financial results show decreases in profit revenue and cash flow but this isn't a huge surprise the company is busy putting the finishing finishing touches on its impressive looking control sequel while sales of its back catalog have been steady originally launched in october 2023 alan wake 2 took some time to turn a profit.
24:41Meanwhile, a previously announced Remedy's multiplayer experiment, FBC Firebreak, received its final update back in March following low sales. Gene Charles Godashan, installed as CEO of Remedy in March, commented on the company's latest results by pointing out that the company had now begun spending on control resonance marketing, including its reveal trailer shown during Sony's June state-of-play presentation, and second trailer which aired during SGF. Godeshan continued by noting that Remedy's annual numbers were down year-on-year, meanwhile, versus 2025's revenues from FPC Firebreak, including money earned from subscription service agreements the game launched in both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus.

25:31As for upcoming Control Resonance, Godeshan, struck a hopeful tone. The game now has 1.5 million wishlists across PC and consoles and is among the top three pre-order PlayStation games in the US, Germany, and Brazil. Quote, we position Control Resonance as a must-have day one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise, Godeshan said. In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out. Control Resonance will be available across all major platforms from day one and is priced attractively for a triple ace title combined with the release window becoming slightly less crowded since our original reveal we remain confident in our positioning other than control resonant remedy continues its lengthy development work on the max pain one and two remakes which are still listed as in production the company also has an unannounced quote new project which it says has now reached production readiness without providing further detail is the early work on alan wake three or
26:39Tim Gettys:another control game we'll have to wait uh let's see what coffee i got uh what are they just the same oh uh yeah horchetta thank you thank you kevin kevin thank you kevin the goat uh i think this is an extra one i got you can whoever comes first uh we'll have to wait and see though remedy certainly doesn't sound like it's giving up on alan just yet quote we have two established own franchises control and alan wake which are linked through the remedy connected universe go to sean concluded looking rcu remedy will self-publish upcoming games in which remedy owns the ip growing and expanding the two franchises will be key for our future in addition we work with partner franchise uh max pain originally created by remedy a lot there i know you are also a massive rcu remedy fan how does this look for you i wish for all the success for remedy i love their games so much they are my kind of weird the fact that alan wake 2 is hitting three million is great it's finally profitable fantastic i wish i know it won't ever but i feel like it would find a lot lot of success on steam it is one of my favorite games of 2023 and that was one hell of a year that's wild that it's still not on steam i forgot about that because it's epic yeah yeah totally but hey i but those things like i think if epic weren't involved then it wouldn't have simply been made to the quality that they wanted and the quality that it is i i'm so excited for control it's so different resonant have you played any of it yet no i have not played any of it the thing i like about it is that they've they've really they could have just done the third person shoots the thing again and they're like no we're gonna try and become character action game yeah and uh there was so much of swapping around with the aberrant which is his weapon uh dylan's weapon but yeah it's very fun also context i did host their sdcc panel so you can completely ignore what i think about remedy games but they picked me because i'm a big remedy head yeah you understand are i am a little nervous for remedy just like like not that i i don't think that control resident is going to do good but i always feel like they're they're working from like they're always working behind right like they're always like okay like this is the one oh it's sort of there and then eventually becomes profitable like that's the story of remedy and now they have this new ceo fpc was let's just call it a disaster like that was a pretty bad move for them and it made it sense like on paper and then you play it and you're like this is not going to work out and to now to have the control resident coming out in the middle in september with everything else and it's like they're not that i don't again like hype is so subjective and we don't know what's actually happening 1.5 million wishlist is really amazing um but i also don't necessarily know if the change from control going from the sequel going to becoming a character action game is going to affect that at all if there's going to be i mean that's the thing though there are so many character action games coming out this year alone like you've got phantom blade you know Onimusha, I guess, in a way.
29:43Maybe that will work to its benefit. I really think the fact that it is so different tonally to everything else that's kind of coming out at that point. It is, you know, for me, part of the reason why I'm so excited for Onimusha and Dawn Walker and Control, based on what I've played, it's like, those are adult games. Like, shit's going to get fucked up, and that's what I want. But it's also, it's kind of exciting. Like, Remedy fans as well are so, like, and i mean this with the best way like intense about what's going to happen next and that what i love about remedy is they don't always tell you yeah uh in terms of story stuff and you know based on my time with it so far a lot of questions yeah i mean i i think that's like the story of
30:25Tim Gettys:remedy is like it is more questions than answers even when they give you this massive moment you're like wait but that adds so many other things that now i have to do like my favorite thing is playing Alan Wake 2 and like literally sitting down like we pretty but we practically should have had a cork board like we should have had like the whiteboard just talk because we the way that we were breaking this down was we were making our own video essay like trying to make this happen I think that that is what's so much and I think that this game is going to do really well even if it like the day one sales aren't insane just from the clips alone like I think this this game is going to have so many crazy moments that are going to go viral I think if you find the sickos and I'm referring specifically to folks like Max Blumenthal over at GameSpot who is like a challenge runner on Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom like the people who are so mechanically minded that they could do these incredible combos like fighting gameplay as I imagine very much built like this too where it's like they can do all this stuff and make it sing like because for me even though I'm not as good at it it still looks good like Dylan looks capable yeah And I'm just like, ha!
31:29What if you could do that sort of like the Stealth Gamer BR as well? You seen their stuff?
31:34Tim Gettys:Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the one that's like, he's doing like the Last of Us 2 and all that stuff, all that crazy stuff. Soon Hill Legend as well. I think, I'm not really on Twitter anymore, so I don't really see much of their stuff, but you know, those kind of folks, like you said, the clips will go. And I just got to see what the moment is going to be, you know? And I remember talking to Sam Lake about that and being like, Like, do you feel like that fear of like having to top yourselves? And I, he was like, ah, no, not really. But it's like, you know, after you make the scene, you know what I mean?
32:06Tim Gettys:Every single time. You make a scene that's so good, you perform it on stage at the Game Awards. Yes, and then the maze before that and Control, like, they have to top themselves. The designer of the ashtray maze is the lead designer on Control Resonant. That's huge. That's huge. I'm excited. I'm excited. And I just am, especially with the new CEO and everything. and like them not not that they weren't looking at the numbers before but it seems like they're like hey we're we're publishing all these we're trying to make this in-house like i love a company especially i love like my favorite story in video games is io interactive like owning um hitman and like publishing it and doing it all themselves like that's such a good story and i want remedy to have those decades of success in the future of like we own this it's ours and we're only going to do max pain so then we can get that back that ip and work with rockstar and like have that moment to make that happen um but i'm happy that they're they're looking to the future to publish their own stuff so hell yeah to control and this is the next story because oh sorry this is the fourth story alien fire team elite cloud version on switch has been shut down making it unplayable for those who bought it this is from chris scullion over at vgc cold iron studios action game was originally released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in August 2021 before getting a Switch port in April 2023.
33:28Because the Switch hardware wasn't deemed powerful enough to run the game natively, however, it was instead released on a cloud version, costing$30 for the standard edition and$60 for an Ultimate Edition, which included the base game and DLC. Earlier this year, the game was delisted from the eShop with players receiving a message saying the game's cloud servers were going to shut down on august 5th this has now happened meaning the entire game which is
33:56Tim Gettys:still listed on other platforms digital stores is now uh is fully playable off and is fully playable offline should it ever be delisted is no longer available in any way on switch because it was also it was only available via cloud streaming um this is like a general i guess conversation of when it comes to game preservation and delisting and everything. What's your thoughts on this? I'm not going to lie. I spent most of that looking at the Steam page for Aliens Fire Team Elite because I was like, have I played this? You're like, is this the Randy Pitchford game? Which game is this? Am I playing this?
34:33I think I did. Or did I play some... I don't know.
34:39Tim Gettys:I feel like there's multiple of these. Is there one coming out? Was there a first-person game in the similar vein that came out around the same time? Well, no, that was the Randy Pitcher one, right? No, I definitely didn't play that one. Okay. There's a lot of... I think there's another one. I think there's a sequel coming out to this game. I'm pretty sure. Yes, there is. They sponsored... What do you call it? Giant Bomb at SGF. Oh, okay. Yeah. I mean, even this is on the back of today. Google Play revoking Lord of the Rings from people's accounts. Oh.
35:18so yeah it was the yeah google google revoked the lord of the rings trilogy from people's accounts and then people like well i paid for it and they said well it's not available on our service anymore and then they said can i have a refund no because you bought in 2022 fuck you
35:32Tim Gettys:it's just so sad i get i get just so frustrated by this because it's like we this should be illegal like we should we if you if you purchase something you should own it and then if we take it away you get money back like i i don't understand how that's like a controversial opinion and i think that we should figure out some type of legislation in this country of like this should not be allowed like we should have better consumer laws that allow say hey if you own something you own the rights to it and if they take it away they have to give you the money back yeah i was gonna say this is absolutely not in the you know i'm siding with the publisher whatever about here um how many people were playing aliens fire team sure yeah if i want to talk to you if you know no but it's but no it's also just like yeah it's like mcu offers a kevin i'm sorry i keep muting the videos but they automatically unmute themselves which is not something that normally happens got you muted um at the tab yeah the tab level Yeah I know but when you open up a new tab It's no longer muted Sorry YouTube changed something on their back end And so I have a pre prepped video It's fine Oh no we already hit that one That's fine Yeah no it sucks It really really sucks And then I mean for me when I said I was playing Metal Gear Solid I had to buy a PS Buy an Xbox 360 version Yeah we own nothing We own nothing I own my morals but even then but even then can you legally back up something that's yours right isn't that like if you own it you could back it up so I went through that little phase of because there's a lot of people on YouTube doing that where they're like I built my own description world yeah I buy the 4k blu-rays and I'm able to rip them and everything yeah and do all that jazz but I mean also like physical editions of things are just going yeah that's the thing you can't cut you cannot rip what does not exist exactly and especially with like it's so much different with video games right i mean like in a lot of different ways right where it's like drm yeah patches drm you own the physical version but then yeah that is the negative 1.0 version of the game so it's not even the the right version that you want to play so yeah we are in an interesting space with video games and i'd love to see some consumer laws out there uh but let's get into story number five that i teased in the beginning of the show because it's a fucking doozy uh this is a fun one it's an insane one saber ceo admits dig at gearbox boss randy pitchford in new game trailer saying it's payback for shots at embracer in borderlands 4 this is from tom phillips over at ign beef between the two high profile video game industry ceos has bubbled over into the public domain via a trailer for the new taxi simulation game Rideshare Stimulation.
38:25Footage of the game includes several references to Borderlands boss Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox Studios, and an embarrassing incident involving a USB stick that contained pornographic material. And now those references have been confirmed as a deliberate dig at Pitchford by Matt Karch, the boss of Rideshare Stimulator publisher Saber interactive as payback for shots fired at embracer in borderlands 4 embracer was previously the parent company of both gearbox and saber and where karch served on the board of directors quote the dig is because randy took shots at embracer in borderlands 4 karch told game file without embracer randy is performing magic tricks at birthday parties for a living
39:12Tim Gettys:holy shit oh my god those shots at embracer that karch is referencing likely involve an in-game location within borderlands 4 that is rather obviously named embracers bluff a kotaku report previously flagged the likely joke at embracers expense and noted that the area featured a large trash pile an ai powered talking toilet and a king mayor who can be found relaxing in a bathtub. Karch's new trailer for rideshare stimulation, meanwhile, includes references to Randy Pitchford's name, Gearbox, and the infamous USB drive. Quote, when I think I've met the randiest of passengers, someone, even stranger, gets in.
40:00A voiceover in the trailer states, next, a car is seen with the Texas license plate USB DRV featuring a familiar-looking gear icon. um usb drv is an obvious reference to a usb drive while uh gearbox is of course based in texas uh quote take a ride in my chariots and i will take you to my castle another voiceover then states pitchfrood famously bought the historic magic magic castle in hollywood back in 2022 and still owns the magician's club today and the article goes on to explain the usb thing which
40:36Tim Gettys:i gotta be honest just look it up just look it up you you do the research it's insane um so that's one part of the story that i want to bring up right but i want to double back to the earlier quote about uh the uh dig that uh was inside of borderlands 4 uh where it says that uh the kotaku report previously flagged the likely joke and embracer's expense and noted that the area featured a large trash pile an ai powered talking toilets and a king mayor who can be found relaxing in a bathtub now the cherry on top of this is this is from blue sky this is from stella sacco over on blue sky uh she's a writer and narrative designer uh she's she posted uh i didn't even see this had been announced and she links to the rideshare stimulation trailer uh i was lead writer on this one and saber replaced me with chat gpt midway through development all the passenger voices were ai too either they change directions at some point or they're not disclosing it on steam just just incredible just just like you suck you suck everyone sucks this is this is horrible oh my god truly beyond satire in the words of randy pitchford why you guys would fuck me on this is beyond me.
41:56Thanks a lot. Do you know that when did he post that? He posted that to Game Informer in 2019. May 2019. I use that as a reaction image weekly. Just incredible. Anytime there is a minor inconvenience in my life, I post the Randy Pitchford why you guys would fuck me on this is beyond me. Thanks a lot.
42:16Tim Gettys:It's so good. It's so good. Okay, first of all, I also want to shout out the fact that the PlayStation YouTube channel refers to it as a righteous stimulator because God forbid they have anything you know. No. Come on this is a this is a clean place on the YouTube channel. Yes this is wow dude I don't even know where to start with. I mean I love the painus. Yeah. I love the painus I'm just saying that he would just be doing magic is incredible. Doing magic for kids birthday parties birthday parties. I love the messiness I just love messy I just like not say we all should be more messy but I think more people that are CEOs and everything, they should be messy outwardly.
42:57I think if anyone should be messy, it should be CEOs. Yes. Because they've got to be doing... Just fight each other. Just fight amongst ourselves. Yeah, make us laugh. Yeah, exactly. Entertain us. Just, first of all, just... Okay. Just... The magic tricks are birthday parties for a living.
43:12Tim Gettys:Yeah. Have you seen J. Alexander, by the way? Alexander. If you're in the Bay Area, there's a real good magician called J. Alexander. J. Alexander, okay.
43:22Fantastic magician. He used to be the magician for the Rolling Stones.
43:27Tim Gettys:Oh. They had a magician? Yeah. Would he like open for them? I think he would just do tricks for them. That's the most rock star thing I've ever heard in my life. But it's also the Futurama joke where he's like, cancel my 3PM magician. Get him to re-chadule. That's what Randy Pisher would have been doing. 100%. Yeah. I've never been to the Magic Castle. I don't know. I just think of the Arrested Development joke where it's like the magic asshole. hey hey all right okay so what is it usb drive usb drv drv well that's incredible to a gear i mean that's great it's fine i mean like it's it's like lowest hanging fruit like it's not even that funny but it's just i just love the funnier part about it is him just coming out and just being like yeah fuck fuck randy pitch for yeah fuck this and then yeah just of course getting shot in the foot immediately being like hey didn't just completely fired a bunch of people and replace them with AI.
44:20With chat, GBT, incredible. But I think the most damning thing there that Stella says is they are not disclosing it on Steam. Yeah. I hope they get in trouble for that. Because, well, I mean, that's the thing. Yeah, unless Steam finds a file in your game files, then... Yeah, I wonder how that works of like, how much is Steam kind of putting, not the band hammer, but like, are they suspending people? Are they sending notices out? Unless they're making them then. But also Steam still doesn't let you filter out AI. Oh, really? At least they didn't on Next Fest. It was a pain in my ass, Roger. I'll tell you that.
44:58If Steam could let us filter out AI games, that would be huge news. But if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where would I go? You go to our last story, the Wii News channel, where we cover all the small news items you need to know about. Wii News, everybody.
45:15Tim Gettys:The music's in our head, and the music is in our heart uh from ro64 big walk has reached 1 million copies sold congratulations and that's on top of it being on ps plus that was a huge that's a huge get huge huge get right there million copies and you're on ps plus that's massive uh gobble gobble 2d action platformer by the team who brought you mad rat dead announced it's a really cool trailer i wanted to just put that on the background and look through it a little bit Yeah, it's a cool little one. It's a 2D action platformer right here. It has a really unique art style right here. We got the music going, everybody.
45:54And we're going to look at the trailer for Gobble. It's from NIS Group over here. I love this art style. The name, though. You don't like Gobble?
46:03Tim Gettys:You got to say it like that. You got to say, Gobble! Gobble! No, do you ever see that Ben Affleck and J-Lo movie? Oh. Jiggly. No, I have not seen it. And she says about the turkey. Geely. And she says, like, are you going to be a turkey? And then she just goes, gobble, gobble. And it's the worst thing. I got to watch that movie. I love Lisa Ben Affleck sometimes. No, you do. I don't got to watch it? Is it a fun time, though? Is it like a laugh? No. It's not even like a laughing time? No, it's not. It's not even like a good, bad movie. Yeah, that sucks. Well, you know what's good and bad sometimes?
46:35Tim Gettys:Sonic and Fortnite. The collab confirmed. It's happening, everybody. New zone loading. Put out a little teaser trailer. It's only six seconds, but you get it. They're going to stretch out his legs. Gotta go fast.
46:48Tim Gettys:We're locked in today, everybody. We got the coffee. Yeah, we got the coffee. And they're just going to, you know, they're just going to. That was it. They're just going to stretch Sonic's legs a little bit. See, I had the realization, Lucy, where I feel like we're maybe a year or two years away where they're going to make mini Fortnite. Because they have all these. They're going to make Minecraft Fortnite. No, no, no. It's going to be for mini characters because they have so many mini characters. They have the sidekicks now. They have SpongeBob. they have fucking stewie like all these little kids so you can just make mini for that you make it all small and then you have them running around and they have their own game so then we can just shrink it all down it's like a laser pointer on your thing um and then yeah we got it we got to figure that out so next story 1666 amsterdam launches in early access august 25th this is from Assassin's Creed co-creator, uh, Patrice Desilet?
47:41Desilet? Desilet. Desilet. Uh, what? Desilet. Desilet, Desilet. Uh, and of course he made Ancestors as well, which I know him from. That's what I know him from. An Ancestors. You're, you're a Humankind Odyssey guy?
47:54Tim Gettys:Uh, my fiance is. Oh. The idea of it, the concept. She was very into it, and then we played the game. Yeah, you think it's like Spore? I just recently went to a garage sale, and I got my limited edition copy of Spore. so it's a big deal in the house. You know, he's local. Will Wright. Mr. Spork? Senor Spork. Senor Spork. He's local. That's where he goes by now. I saw, oh shit, GDC two years ago. Yeah. At a cafe. Okay. I was with Tam and we were like meeting a bunch of people and we were just meeting them all in this cafe so we didn't have to walk anywhere. Big brain move. Fucking Will Wright walks in.
48:32And I'm just, I literally do the thing from community where I'm like, I can't, no, I can't talk to him. No, you can't disappoint a picture. I don't want anything. I don't want to talk to this man. But he was in my vicinity. I was like...
48:43Tim Gettys:Did you just awkwardly just stare at him? And he just... Well, no, I was engaged in the conversation, but then I was like, oh my God, he's just there. Like the man who just made the game that I spent way too many, like thousands of hours playing. Was it Spore? No, I'm pretty sure. I'm sorry. I thought you were going to be like... I thought you were going to be like, no, like Spore. Like, that's my game. I'm in on Spore. You should have done, you and Tam, should I have a conversation? to start like kind of talking about Spore like a little bit loud. Stop playing the Monster Factory. Yeah, exactly.
49:12Tim Gettys:And he turns around and is like, I made that game. What, you? You made the game? No, you didn't make it. No, I'd be like, tell me about SimAnt. You know, like some of those weird ones. Yeah, remember when you made this game? I do. You don't. Final one over here. Via Shinobi 602. Lord of the Rings War in the North Legacy Edition announced and available now. What? Yeah,$18, launch discount,$19.99, PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch 1 and 2, co-op, local and online, shared split screen, and up to 4K 60 FPS. I put that in there because I know it's a price. Oh, it's part of the GOG preservation program. I was like...
49:53Tim Gettys:No, but I mean, it's on consoles too. Shouts out to GOG, but... Yeah, this is a real one. Experience the untold stories about Lord of the Rings. Man, I mean, I haven't played this for forever. Yeah, and that is it for Wien News, everybody. Let's go into some super chats. Super chats. Super chats. We got a bunch from y 'all. Thank you so much. I just beat, sorry, this is from Gondor's Condor. I just beat Galley House per your mail. Great rec. Look at that. Thank you. Look at that. I love that. What an incredible game. I don't know anything about it. Oh, the incident at Galley House? No. So it was a typing game.
50:35a game on itch called type help and uh the folks who made the root trees are dead helped bring it to steam with visuals and voice acting and it is a deduction you go basically go to a house and um all the people there died under mysterious circumstances and then you kind of go back in time you have this machine that essentially captures the resonance of whatever happened there as long as you have the right people in the right room at the right time it'll show you a little um like uh it'll show you the recap of basically what happened there it's a typing game no
51:04Tim Gettys:No, the original one. This one is more, you have like a magic machine. Oh, I love magic machine games. I actually do know this game because Mike drafted it on Fantasy Critic and he thought it was going to be his savior and it wasn't. It did really well. It did well. I think it was like 80 something, but he was like, this is going to be like blueprints. He doesn't know what he's doing. You know what I mean? He's just kind of pressing buttons and hoping for the best. 84, yeah. But I mean, it's sad that there's only nine critic reviews because there aren't critics. Hey, everybody. We can... We know a lot of critics that watch this.
51:36Tim Gettys:One, rate it and go on OpenCritic and do that. One, rate it 95 and above, and then help Mike out, and then rescind your... At the end of the year, after FantasyCritic is done. We can play the game here. Jamvan. Jamvan Superchats, it says Supermassive, are the exact size of studio that's going to struggle as the industry shrinks. not too big to fail not small enough to make it to take the crumbs yeah it's tough um uh bowed l y k says for lucy's wishes of a box ps5 box plates from devon pc maybe that's like a 3d printed type thing it's called box plates uh kind of funny best friend already sent me something um on blue sky wow um to oh okay hmm to to a better stand who was it jace thank you so much so i don't have to slip around with the little stand stuff and yeah box plates why are you guys covering up art like i love y 'all but like this the ps5 is is is beautiful this is just nothing this looks like a dev kit this is sad have you seen a PS5 dev kit?
52:54I actually haven't like a big V oh is it really? yeah it's weird looking yeah it's pretty sick honestly that looks like an Xbox yeah or meets a PS4 warm-o steez super chat says telework tax former game dev I'm afraid of this he's laid off I passed my six month probation and I'm working my first day from home as a system admin life goes on excited to be watching live hell yeah congratulations on the rebound right there oh that's pretty sick though yeah right that's pretty dope uh zeke speaks is uh thank you lucy for emailing a game rex every week while i really miss a gotcha covered lfg still gives me my weekly dose of lj and some great games thank you love that gotcha covered too uh i dab slabs has lucy played hell is us i haven't finished it okay but i have played it did you like it i did i think it does something really interesting in that it doesn't hold your hand at all and does um it the game made a lot more sense to me when i was talking to john the creative director and he we were talking about berserk and i was like ah yeah yeah i get the vibe yeah i mean obviously not as dark fantasy obviously and all that about the uh as with regard to berserk my brain um but no i did like a lot i think the combat is where it sort of like fell apart a little bit for me um but yeah that moral ambiguity the war zone stuff it was quite effective and impactful i think it's on switch two now or is coming to switch so i believe so uh oh this is the box is the box thing again just it's a beautiful piece of art it looks like the wayne tower as greg said once uh wobbles for life sorry to derail everything but photos just leaked uh of the uh switch two and Pro Controller special editions.
54:44Looks pretty good. Yeah, we talked about that earlier on the show.
54:47Tim Gettys:And Lucy hated it. I didn't hate it. I'm just not going to buy it. If you don't buy something, that means you hate it. That's what it means to be an American. Yeah, just give me the wallet. Yeah, I will say for sure the Switch is my least played console. Which are most played console? Are you a PC gamer? I'm PC.
