In short
Fizzint (Hideo Kojima’s next action espionage game) reportedly moved from PlayStation Studios to Xbox after Sony allegedly canceled it; discussion centers on what this means for PlayStation’s strategy, budgets, and future console success. The hosts also cover Nintendo’s customer appreciation sale, a leaked Rare SNES prototype tied to Banjo-Kazooie, Ubisoft testing removal of its PC launcher while keeping Ubisoft Connect features on Steam, and Steam adding “Big Art Mode”/screensaver options.
Guests
Madeline Stanley (first time joining Tim Geddes on Kinda Funny Games Daily; previously appeared on the show). Tim Geddes is the host.
Key claims
Sony’s cancellation is “embarrassing” and likely budget-driven; Kojima’s auteur brand and marketing value were known, so backing out is irrational. Xbox is framed as “picking up the fumble,” but success may be limited by Xbox install base/PC vs console sales realities.
Notable examples
Kojima’s “Metal Gear” vibes for Fizzint; Nintendo sale discounts (30%); Project Dream/Super Nintendo prototype leak (ROM on Internet Archive); Ubisoft Connect launcher removal for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown; Steam Big Art Mode inspired by Decky Loader.

0:50What's up everybody. Welcome back to kind of funny games daily for Thursday, September 10th, 2026. It's a slow news day. There we go. Yes. How are you feeling about it? I have a lot of feelings. I'm ready to dig into them with you, you know?
1:21Yes. Oh, yeah. There's some big topics. Yes, there is. Get your super chats ready. Please get all of your emotions in line and check. Everybody be cool, okay? We'll get through this together. one way one how who knows uh if you're watching live be part of the show by super chatting on youtube.com slash kind of funny games we couldn't do this without our producers on patreon.com slash kind of funny so thank you to omega buster delaney the psalm twining and michael is evento for now let's begin with what is and forever will be the roper report it's time for some news we have six stories today a baker's dozen we got to jump right into it because this this is one of them crazy ones madeline yes i could have never seen this coming never been on this coming especially in this way uh but to give context to people what we're talking about hideo kojima's phyzzin has jumped from playstation to xbox after kojima says sony tried to cancel it this comes from chris scullion at vgc hideo kojima's upcoming stealth game phyzzin which was set to be published by PlayStation Studios, will now be handled by Xbox.
2:31Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment first announced Fizzint, which is described as a brand new original IP and a next-generation action espionage game, back in 2024. In a statement posted on X, Kojima said that Sony had told him it was canceling the game three months ago, and he has since been trying to find a new partner to work with in order to keep it alive. As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the Fizzant project, he said. Fizzant is an important project both to me and to Kojima Productions.
3:04Determined to keep the project alive, we've spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner. In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found an Xbox, a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we've decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured the development of Fizzint, a genre-defining action espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward. PlayStation also posted its own version of events on X, confirming that it had made the difficult decision to move away from the project, but not explaining why.
3:37An update from PlayStation Studios. After careful consideration, we've made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on its project, Fizzint, it said. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima's vision for the game. Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining, creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future. We'll see. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma described the deal as a big moment for Xbox and added in an official statement, creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life.
4:13We're honored that Kojima-san has chosen Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on Fizzant. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at Xbox. At the time of Fizzin's announcement, PlayStation studio boss Herman Holtz appeared in a brief video message in which he reiterated his excitement for the game. We're not going to be sharing too many details today, but I can confirm the game is fueled by the same creative energy, the same ambition that has made the PlayStation and Kojima partnership so powerful over the past 30 years. He said at the time. Madeline, you can kick us off here.
4:46what are the top level thoughts tim i think this is embarrassing on behalf of sony i think when you partner with someone like kojima you kind of know what you're getting here and in fact like we know kojima is more of an auteur and has been recently but then phyzzit was going to be the return to metal gear vibes we've got an action we've got some we know where some cool people were maybe attached to it i think this is something i see a lot across film television gaming as well which is like you hire someone for what they are known for kojima is going to give you an amazing experience cinematic awesome cool engaging um very well rounded in this cool world and then you tell him not to do kojima things why why why partner with someone only to not let them do what they're gonna do that is a very good question i do think that there is a clear answer reading between the lines on this and it's budget yes right it is uh there is a a budget associated with genre defining video games especially when we're talking about what we are talking about here kevin if you could please bring up the the poster here for fizzin hideo kojima game here comes the feeling is the tagline for this game there's a level of confidence that only hideo kojima and his team can have to put out this image with this name and say here comes the feeling and we're all like oh baby like lock in we get what this means and of course playstation knew what that meant and that's why they partnered for this project a couple years ago that's why over the last decade they have positioned kojima as such a look who we have on our team let's put him so front facing like let's put dedicate so much of our marketing to kojima is making games exclusively on playstation or even just for playstation and of course that goes through all of the death strandings but the way they announced this game where it was in la it ended that state of play on that big billboard on the back lot it's the level of just what they were putting into it it's like you need to carry that confidence through and you need to understand that yes a high budget is associated with that yes there is risk associated with what if it doesn't sell what it needs to and all of that but that can't be what you're investing in for this type of project everything about this here comes the feeling y 'all need to commit to the feeling of it and here is an embarrassing move by playstation and i look at this and this is like such a sad state of where the industry's at i think there's so much to break down here i think there's a lot to be upset about there's a lot of fear that i think that this should incite in people of the future of where video games are at um and i think when you look at playstation making moves like this it's like dude what a generational run they're having right now of absolute shit news poor decisions and just baffling baffling decisions um i i know i i'm like i'm a pro artist like pie in the sky person okay so i know money is is money rules everything around us okay um and here's the thing though i think about kojima we know kojima loves movies i don't know why kojima just hasn't made a movie yet but he should he you know he's gone to the criterion closet notably loves david lynch a lot of cool directors and i'm like i think about how you know not every movie has to be marvel endgame you know and there is like when i think of of someone like a david lynch who made these really important things and it doesn't those things are still worth it even if they don't make the most money of all time and i hate that we're losing like a game just has to make the most money now if it can doesn't it doesn't matter if it contributes to the culture it doesn't necessarily the people aren't caring about that as much anymore and that really bothers me yeah and i mean all of that paired with playstation studios output and playstation's exclusive lineups and the decisions that they've made throughout this generation and we need to talk about all the live service disasters that they they did and it's those choices that lead to things like this it leads to needing to penny pinch and this is not planning for a future for playstation this is just kind of trying to band-aid and solve a problem for right now and it really should not instill faith in anyone and that is so concerning because then there's the other side there is xbox coming in on one hand thank god like this project i cannot wait for i need to see all the way through i want to see this project exist and hopefully thrive hopefully deliver on the feeling that they're they're promising here and xbox right now in their rehab phase um 2.0 3.0 whatever you want to call it um but they're they're clear dedicated asha era of we are we're doing the exclusives we're trying to make the console matter again and now they have this like that is such a moment reminiscent of kojima coming out on that stage at uh at e3 with sony right so the videos of him and andrew house talking about um doing the tour to figure out getting him to the uh decima engine to be able to make that stranding like all of that this is a very similar moment to that but we're in a very different context and that's what scares me is the industry side of this yeah um what i'm about to say is going to upset people and i think that's good i think that we need to get upset about this because the reality of this is that playstation in 2015 was at a all-time we're seeing the peak of a few years after that and we're on this rise of playstation dominating i think that this coming to xbox if it ends up happening when And it ends up happening all of that.
11:03I am just so concerned about the eventual inevitability of this game, not selling what it needs to simply because there aren't enough Xboxes out there. Yeah. And that is just not our problem, I guess, but guess what? It will be our problem when then we don't get more. And we, then we see a lot of shifts happening because gaming in general is just in a freaking cesspool of nonsense. I again am very excited that this project lives I think Sony fucked up and they're complete morons over there and that there's no rationalization that I think makes sense that if you're going to announce this project you need to see it through and then the Xbox you gotta commit and then on the Xbox side it's like good luck to them I do not have faith in this but I want to be wrong I really hope I'm wrong I just have seen so much happen and seeing what I've seen the last couple years i don't see this ending well and i really hope they prove me wrong well it's so interesting too because right in 2024 when this got announced right fizzit was with sony od with xbox and i felt like that was a pretty positive thing right they were like both sony and microsoft are like hey we are committing to this auteur video game director making cool first person games one horror one more action like and that's for everybody and now we're seeing okay sony is no longer committing to that microsoft's going all in so i i hope we get both of them too because i feel like are those now sort of in competition with each other are they what's the timeline here i mean well in terms of development yeah they always were right yeah they always were being co-developed and yeah od is such an interesting thing like when will we see that but i do think that is the the auteur side of things.
12:53Yeah. We kind of expect that a lot more. I think there, whereas this, like the words they're using brand new, original IP next generation, action, espionage game, bringing back genre defining. It's like he wants to make the next metal gear. And we all understand what that means. And we know that Kojima will take that to a completely different level after, I mean, even just look at the metal gear franchise itself, like even just metal gear solid, that franchise, it adds so many changes throughout it to compare metal gear, solid one to metal gear, solid five, the advancements are absolutely insane so to imagine what an actual true genre defining next-gen experience looks like i think we can all kind of see that in our heads so uh and we want it like that's something that we want so playstation with wherever that's going i think we don't know we're not seeing the game we don't know what's going on we don't know how much this costs we don't know how annoying things can be and all of it but i don't believe that it's not good no and and like i said i just i just feel like when you are partnering with kojima you kind of know what you're getting into it's not like this giant unknown quantity like he's been in the industry for a long time we kind of know what games he's putting out whether they're leaning more mainstream or they're leaning more auteur.
14:13So it's just strange to me that you would commit to something, say it's coming out, be like, we're committing to this, and then change your mind so quickly. And I don't, I know, I just don't know what other than money, right, that could cause that. But I feel like the money should have been secondary here. Yeah, but I mean, it all goes back to PlayStation's shitty-ass decisions with the live service stuff. Like, that's why. I think it has way less to do with is visit worth it and has more to do with shit. We don't got it like we used to because we stuck our foot in our mouths while tripping on a rake while just doing all of the phrases.
14:52It's just nuts, man. I am yesterday, two days ago. I remember what it was. I'm saying like, I can't believe how disillusioned I am with PlayStation right now because like I am a ride or die for so many ecosystems. I love and that is one of them and they've just been been making decision after decision that I'm just like dude you're you're losing me you're losing the people the whole physical disc thing the fact that they have a controversy that has lasted long enough that they like just can't post anything without the comments just being all focused on this one thing it's like they have so many shit storms that they're dealing with at once and to layer on objectively bad news to layer on things that you look at and you're just like dude why would i want a ps6 what you're telling people to like not have faith in a ps6 meanwhile xbox is trying their best to give people faith in a helix i am so interested in what this next gen crossover is going to look like we've seen generational ships we've seen people jump from playstation 2 to the xbox 360 back to the playstation 4 right and then playstation was able to maintain that i don't even know if like first off i don't I don't think we need to be close.
16:04I don't think we should be close. We are still firmly in this generation, but will they force their hands there? Are there things that are going to have to happen sooner than we would expect and with insane prices that are not going to help the attachment rate of getting these things into houses and then getting those people to buy games? I'm so... I'm stressed out, Madeline. I'm stressed. I'm scared. I have less faith day by day that the industry leaders are going to be able to pull this off i feel yeah it just feels like everything is shrinking and compressing and we're getting like that tense feeling of like okay there this can only get so much smaller like everything can only shrink so much more until yeah gaming console gaming is just for one percent of people yeah and that's sad because gaming is something that has brought me so much joy brought you so much joy brought me together with so many people and i do wonder as you do like i don't think that i don't know how many people that this you know moves over to xbox but when you consider all of the other tiny uh hairs and and and uh what i was trying to think of the expression but tiny little things the rake stepping on where at a certain point you're like okay well this thing this thing this thing it it all adds up into a very bad picture yeah it absolutely does crush lemons in the the chat was saying uh that i'm crazy for saying that it wouldn't be able to sell enough on xbox because there are more pcs in the world than playstation fives more pcs yes but more people buying games like this on pc and just the fact of the matter is like look yourself in the mirror and ask and honestly answer where would this game sell best pc xbox or playstation just be real the answer is playstation like you know that to be true and i think that there's so much heavy lifting to get to the point for that not to be true and who's doing the lifting are they going to get there what by the time like when helix comes out is this game going to be on xbox series or is it going to be on helix and at that point how many helixes are there and then they'll play anywhere play over on pc we'll see man we'll see we are we getting fizzing to some liberty i don't know i don't know will video games exist i don't know we have so many super chats i want to get to here jbc says wild 48 hours for sony right now but the reality is that once gta 6 drops all those frowns will be turned upside down i mean yeah like they do have this giant rocket in the back pocket like uh to the point i just said like gta 6 is going to sell absolutely insanely on playstation uh here comes snow bike mike oh no you're seeing it in person here oh god wow this looks like a three thousand dollar sign to me three thousand dollars three thousand you guys i would buy this for three thousand dollars oh my god here we go tim i felt like just today would be the appropriate day to light the beam
19:10I did think it was going to be brighter
19:15When you do good things You get to light the beam Xbox Great job You earned it I light the beam The beam has been lit everybody This feels appropriate This feels like the The size and illumination Of this response which is just like the Xbox is picking up a fumble. Okay. It's like when, you know, we'll talk about football here. The quarterback throws a pass. It gets misses. It misses and a defensive end. You just like runs it in the, we call them in my house, a fat guy touchdown, you know, the big guys, they run it in and they're like, you know, it was there. We had that. We had the opportunity.
19:59It's not what we normally do, but we'll grab it. But that is good though. it's still good because you still score yeah like that's the thing is i i feel like like this game existing great thing and also who else would be able to support it at this point because the other option is tencent the other option is like which is we don't want exactly it's like like this is this is the thing where i'm like good on xbox like xbox god bless them like they clearly they are trying clearly they heard someone be like there's value here we need to take this opportunity we'll figure out the financials later that's the part that scares me though is i don't have faith that that part will happen yeah and then that's going to result in a lot of bad things but that's and until they prove me otherwise i'm right so we got that chat how it goes we just gotta hope it is goes for the best um draw to rivia says will kojima production still have access to the decima engine and where they need to switch if so that would cause a lot of development issues that is very interesting i don't know if it was confirmed that fizzit was using it or not but i imagine it would have been yeah i don't know why they would yeah oh very interesting um claw master says with how many misfires sony has been having in the past few years the gta 6 will wash away their worries i feel won't work as they think um i mean it it will for a lot of for a large amount of people but there's also a large amount of people that are very upset about this and hate it and they're active gamers that are loud because they're upset because these things keep happening and there's no good things happening there's no signs of like oh man well just around the corner we have this amazing lineup of video games it's kind of like oh there is a lineup that i don't even have full faith it's gonna come out because they can drop it at any second well it's also i think as as a video game fan and a video game consumer it becomes increasingly apparent through all these actions like you don't give a shit about us like you care about the shareholders and that's it and every decision you are making is uh making me feel that way more and more and more and then i think like you're saying it makes it hard to have any brand loyalty or have any passion for xbox or playstation or anything because every decision they make are like yeah we don't care about you we care about what makes us money and so if if what you like doesn't make us money we don't care about what you like or at all yeah and that doesn't feel great tim yeah it doesn't make me feel excited to play video games el capitan says let's be real you can't make games where kojima makes games for then get outsold by astrobot that's trending to sold 2 million and astrobot 4.3 and i love death stranding 2 they knew going in and they they get the marketing beats of having Kojima.
22:45And it's like, that's part of the deal. That's part of where the budget comes from. And that's gone now. That goodwill immediately right now, it's shifted towards Xbox. Like PlayStation just lost that. And we know how Kojima, we know how the public gaming sentiment felt and continued to feel towards Konami for years because of how the Kojima shit went. That's not going to change with this PlayStation and Xbox thing. People are going to look at PlayStation and be like, Like, damn, I remember when they made a dumbass blunder with Kojima. Like, I don't know, man. It's not going to be good for PlayStation.
23:19I do have one hope. And this is maybe like a little copium, okay? Which is just that PlayStation has been sort of the market leader for so long now. And I think when you don't have a real solid competition, you kind of end up in these places where you think you can do whatever you want. because you have the install base you have everything i don't love that we're losing good games or things are moving around and things are bad but i do wonder if xbox can't if the dominoes finally fall and xbox can get there that having a more healthy competition where we are on more equal footing between the two can actually bring us to some point where we get some cool games where they, there is a little fear in both of them trying to, to be more even keeled.
24:09I don't know if that makes sense, but I think a healthy competition might benefit us, but it's like, when does that, can we get to that point where it's healthy and it's not just like, okay, one, one is obviously just purely failing. I mean, what you just said, I wish we lived in that reality. And like, that is, that is a very hopeful take that, you know, I do think I've just been talking about these games for way too long and invested for way too long to feel like that is even a possibility with where the world's at where tech is at where the prices of everything are and just how video games are made and the decisions around them it's uh i saw in the chat i'm trying to bring it back um but it was uh fins was saying like this isn't going to end well for anybody not kojima not xbox not playstation and it's like i i fully agree there i think that like Like this, they've made their bed and they now need to lay in it.
25:04And I'm talking about everybody there. Like it, the dominoes, we've talked about that shit for so long. How many years? But it's like, dude, like the problem is it's like the table's gone. There's like not even anything to put the dominoes on. And now that we need to figure out getting a new table or dominoes start getting set up again. Like we've reset in ways that are just, we're not coming back from. And we'll see with Gears E-Day. we'll see like what that does like one of the biggest xbox brands they have now exclusive on xbox i'm not talking about the quality of the game i'm talking about like will they see it as a success yeah will it be will it do enough will it sustain to get us to the point that we're getting physics exclusive on a system i don't know i really don't like i would not bet on it well i think that's the other the other problem we've been seeing which is like what is a success anymore tim because we've seen a lot of successful games critically we've seen a lot of successful games monetarily and it doesn't seem to matter exactly so if you can never have a success what does that mean for the industry yep bt dub says if the game's a 10 out of 10 why would it not end well death stranding 2 got 10 out of 10s from a ton of people and yeah the 2.2 million it's like dude we're still talking about millions of sales and like that's a lot for a exclusive that that game wasn't on pc that was just playstation so yeah you're right it's just like there's just no like how do you succeed in a field that moves the goalpost so much you can never win when i when i first started working at ign which was like my first real big boy job like career shit um where i'd be in meetings where they're talking about business shit this is the most basic thing ever but i remember learning the term kpi performance indicator there needs to be one and everyone needs to be working towards that key performance indicator that is their goal and everyone needs to be rewarded for nailing that and reprimanded for when they're not doing things in support of that and it's happening all over from the uh indie space all the way up to triple a but We are seeing it constantly where the KPIs that the teams are being told are inaccurate.
27:22And what is it then? What is it? I don't know that there is any possibility to like come up with something because it is just 10x the money from last year. Yeah. Whatever we made, we actually wanted to make five times as much as that. And you're like, well, that's not a realistic goal, you guys. Matt Sanders says, now I know how it feels to be an Xbox fan with all these L's. I'm sorry, Xbox fans. Hey, dude, real talk, man. Xbox went through it for so long. And now, hey, PlayStation's here, everyone. PlayStation is in the fucking shit right now.
27:59Ziggy says stories like this make me truly think Herman needs to go. Dude, yeah, let's just keep switching up the person at the top and, like, see what the fuck happens. There's so much poison. Like, I don't know where the line is, but there is a line on these teams that we need to figure out somebody needs to get to the bottom of this and just be like hey y 'all we gotta either fix this or y 'all are just fucked you're just serving companies above you that have completely different goals than whatever it is y 'all are trying to do yeah but tim reagan said it'll trickle down you know it works it's been working for so long opponents prime says nintendo was able to come back from the wii u with breath of the wild odyssey animal crossing etc why not xbox with killer exclusives and innovative hardware it's a very very keen point there i do think that there is a lot of difference where nintendo even during its worst times it had the 3ds it had successful winners it still had ip and was able to continue to put out products and the install base wasn't there for the wii u but the games were the games were very high rated very very very high quality and then yeah they also were able to continue to do something but that with the switch and now switch two but all that is because they continually were able to put out high quality first party titles that the audience resonated with and would go out and buy and the attach rate was super high we are simply not seeing that on xbox well it's like i i think nintendo knows who their audience is and i think i'm not always the biggest target nintendo person i i recently got a switch two for pacopia they got me in um but But they know what their audience wants and they give it to them.
29:39And I think that's what we saw with the Sony live service push, which is like the PlayStation players in general were not wanting that. And so they don't know their audience. And same with Xbox. I think Xbox isn't really quite sure who their audience is. They're not serving the people who are there where they are. They're serving an imaginary audience that they hope to have versus the people who are actually there. Yep. Mr. Yasmin says, Tim, what if the Helix ends up being like the switch? Good Lord, would I be stoked out of my mind? That would mean that we are in an incredibly healthy place as an industry.
30:15I don't see that happening. I love that. I love play anywhere. I love the idea of it being a PC and a console. I love so much about what they're doing there. I just do not have faith that it's going to be as successful as it needs to, to be able to be a factor. Yeah. And that to me is what bums me out because that leads to more teams closing, less games being made. Nuba Duva says I'm an analyst at my job and seeing employees have to deal with unrealistic KPIs set by executives is annoying to see. It doesn't seem to change. And yeah, some things will never change, but when we're at a point that there just simply don't seem to be winners right now, like there's Nintendo, but Nintendo is just always doing their own thing.
30:56And for some reason, it doesn't get credit for it at the same time gets all the credit. Yeah. It's both. It's nothing and everything. It's nothing and everything. Nintendo announces customer appreciation sale, one of its largest promotions ever, thanks to fan support and tariff-related refunds. This comes from Brian at Nintendo Everything. Fans can save 30 % on dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles, as well as select physical games, downloadable content, accessories, amiibo, and apparel. Details can be found on the eShop, Nintendo Store, and participating retail locations. Nintendo said that the sale is our way of saying thank you to Nintendo players for their continued support.
35:35The company also specifically highlighted that it is made possible in part by tariff-related refunds. That said, Nintendo says it absorbed most tariff-related costs. The sale runs from the 13th to 26th of September across all the different Nintendo places. Whether you're jumping into a Switch favorite for the first time or revisiting Adventure on your Switch or Switch 2, the customer appreciation sale is packed with savings on dozens of Nintendo games, accessories, and more. the appreciation sales are a way of saying thank you to nintendo players for the continued support and is made possible in part by tariff related refunds while nintendo absorbed most tariff related costs the refunds help make promotions like this one possible thank you for being part of the nintendo community we'll hope you discover your next adventure during the customer appreciation sale i don't know why i read this and all of it's good news all of it's good but then why do i feel weird about it no here's the thing tim it is it's so nintendo silly we talk about nintendo doing its own thing they're like you guys we're so nice to you like we're gonna give you your money back by asking you to buy another game from us and i know we never put our games on sale so you're really gonna like this just for you we appreciate you it's so silly and weird but at the end of the day this is good news this is good they didn't need to do this like they could have just took the refund money and just been like hey we made y 'all pay any fucking dollars for mario kart ah i'm not even saying my bad i'm just saying thank you kind of buy more shit it's it is just strange it's like i want to do you a big favor tim and i want you to give me 30 dollars yeah and you're like is well i was gonna give you 60 so i guess that is a favor but like i just feel like you're asking me for money now yeah for real um but to their defense at least they're asking for money for good products yeah right and it's like um i i do think that the uh idea that nintendo games never go on sale is a bit outdated like i i think that i i saw a breakdown video recently of people comparing uh nintendo's sales to playstation sales to steam sales steam is far and away the best offering and you get the highest rate of deals at the the biggest discounts um and but PlayStation isn't that far behind.
37:51No, they really offer. And I was surprised seeing where Nintendo was at. Cause I would have been like, Oh yeah. Nintendo games. They're just never dropping. And it's like, there are a more in, since the switches came out more, very, very high discounts coming out at a higher pace than we've ever seen from them. Always could see improvement, but Hey, things like this are kind of in line with that, where this seems to be the biggest sale that they've, they've done. I want to see the numbers. I want to see the offerings. I don't know if things are available yet, But I am interested in like what this actually looks like for them.
38:22Yeah. Is it does it is it for everything? Is it for select things? Like what what does it apply to? So we'll see in just two days or a couple three days. But once this happens, like I wonder how successful this is going to be for them where. This is so out of nowhere and so quick that I'm not sure that they'll be able to get like a full marketing push behind it in time. But like this could result in selling millions of units of games, you know, like it's going to be very interesting to see this. switch financial report next or the next time we get it like that uh we'll show this information like i wonder if we're gonna see major bumps for like luigi's mansion 3 you know what i mean like like games that are kind of they sold very well like very very very well but like maybe some older ones getting a bigger bump uh to get up there kirby and forgotten land like that that type of thing especially with the new kirby announcement too that that might be a big one that people are Like, oh, I missed that.
39:14The new one looks cool. Why don't I grab the old one while it's a little cheaper than normal? Yeah. I do think the Nintendo Never Goes On Sale actually works very much in their favor. So I wonder if they perpetuate that a little bit. Because if they never go on sale, people are just like, well, I just have to buy it. Yep. And they don't wait for the sale. They have a perceived value that they stick by. And they are off the rocker sometimes. But other times it's like, hey, no. They put their money where their mouth is and put out quality titles. And now that there is a sale, I do think there will be a frenzy to be like, well, this never happened, so I have to buy three games instead of one.
39:52And it's like, yeah, I'll be curious to see if we get the sales totals after this of how much they're selling during this small period. Customer appreciation sale. We appreciate you. Yeah. Fire shit. Story number three, Project Dream, Rare's Super Nintendo prototype, which evolved into Banjo-Kazooie has leaked after 30 plus years. This is crazy. This comes from Chris Scullion at VGC. One of retro gaming's holy grails has been leaked online as a protest at the current state of the games industry and Microsoft in particular. Okay. Project Dream was the codename for Dream Land of Giants, an RPG that would eventually evolve to become Banjo.
40:30It initially featured a boy named Edson who was feuding with pirates. Rare started work on Project Dream in the mid-90s, initially creating a Super Nintendo prototype which featured isometric viewpoint and pre-rendered sprites similar to those used in Donkey Kong Country. The project was eventually transitioned to the N64, what was planned to be a larger action RPG until it was eventually scaled down to a 3D platformer and Edson was replaced with Banjo. Rare fans have always wanted to get their hands on either of the Project Dream prototypes and now the Super Nintendo one's been leaked online by an anonymous user calling themselves Fuck Asha and Phil.
41:01The ROM is available to download now from the Internet Archive as a protest if the username wasn't clear against the way the leaker believes Microsoft has treated Rare in recent years. I've held onto this for years. It was fun to have something that only a handful of people had. And as I am several people removed from how it got out of Rare to begin with, I didn't want to risk that it could somehow get someone else in trouble. So how I got it is a story I don't plan to share. But with the current state of the industry and Microsoft's current heartless gutting and mismanagement of Rare and other companies it controls, plus with how long it's been, I feel it's more important to make sure this is properly preserved and the ROM dissected by people with far more knowledge on how to do such things.
41:35I hope by releasing this that it also inspires other people to release what they have as well I know the 12 Tales Conquer 64 prototypes out there somewhere but sadly this is the only thing I have because the prototype is a very early test build there isn't much for the player to do other than run through a series of screens and attack enemies with their sword a second controller can be used to control the enemies too Rare composer Grant Kirkhope stated on X that the leak looks real to me and asked fellow former Rare composer David Wise who kirk hope then said was responsible for the music in the super nintendo prototype for his opinion it looks real to me he said it was a long time ago from a previous millennium just like me and you but what a millennium god bless david wise and grant kirk that's awesome um man this is cool as hell i remember uh hearing about this in in video game magazines back in the 90s and seeing it like this is like whoa it's real i never thought we'd ever see it wow coming out of the depths yeah do you think that this his call to this person's call to have other people release their things do you think we'll see any movement from that i mean yeah probably like i do think that there's you know game development was different in the 90s and it was a lot more tight knit much smaller and these teams were very kind of haphazard and just some dude has files on some laptop or not laptop probably some actual hard disk drive floppy drives who the hell knows um And I'm sure there's treasure troves of shit out there.

43:02And, you know, I do think that it's been long enough in a lot of ways that people are kind of like, no one's going to get in trouble for this. And I do think there is a general I kind of fuck the world sentiment right now. Like, I don't care if I get in trouble. Because also, like, what type of trouble are people going to get in when we're living in the world we are? You can get away with fucking any crime you want. No one's going to do anything. It's so upsetting. But with all that, I don't know. there's something about this message that does make me fucking cringe and roll my eyes like it's like okay dude like this weird call to action but also a good on people trying to step up with their voice the way that they feel is appropriate like i wouldn't do this i think it's silly but he disagrees now i get to see this kind of nifty i guess it feels very like vigilante like i'm doing this for the greater good yeah like oh it's cool yeah and then like the gta6 guy yeah what was the name lucky ducky or whatever the hell um then it's all just a fucking crypto scheme story number four steam users rejoice as ubisoft kills controversial launcher this comes from elijah gonzalez at polygon another pc game launcher is being taken out to pasture it seems that ubisoft will be the latest game company to move away from including its own launcher with steam games according to a reddit post by nostalgia keeper 007 the company is testing an update that will have its Steam games support existing Ubisoft Kinect features like crossplay, cross progression and more without requiring the Ubisoft Kinect PC launcher to be installed or launched.
44:30The company is allegedly testing the change with Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown. I love this. That is awesome. I hate how cumbersome that thing. Can we kill all the launchers? Just kill the launchers. We don't want them. But we want their features. So that's why this is kind of just best of both worlds. Like I loved that I used this with Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown and I was able to play on Switch or on PC seamlessly. But it was only seamless after I had to deal with the launchers and all the dumb shit and logging in. And yeah, this is so good. Let's get rid of this nonsense. It's difficult to verify the Reddit post directly because the link's Steam page appears to be available only to users who own the Lost Crown.
45:07While you can see part of the message, if you search for Ubisoft on Steam's news feed, clicking the link results in an error. It's difficult to verify it because it's only available to users who own the Lost Crown. Then buy the Lost Crown. Tim's been asking you. I've been asking you for a long time, but by the last time, this is the chance. Or just like, ask a homie. I'm sure someone that you know has it. This first version is an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined experience on Steam. The alleged post from Ubisoft reads, we'll continue to iterate and improve the Ubisoft Connect services over time with the goal of delivering the features and services players use and expect.
45:43What's happening? You know, I'm so lucky I get to be here. Do you want to be? It does feel so menacing Here comes the feeling everyone This is physics right now We're living physics
46:01Yep here's the champ Four times Great great great great Tim I can't believe you let that happen to you by the way I know Four times back to back To back to back I was just out there Tim and it dawned on me Madeline's been here over 24 hours she hasn't got a photo with the champs if you want to get your selfie ready oh yes i would love to yep there they go of course the champ has to happen now during games daily it's not like it's a big you need 10 minutes in the background not like we have uh important things to talk about greg while i have you do you have any comments on today what a fucking day what a fucking day for playstation because i love you
46:58oh god now he gets outro music too it just keeps getting longer and longer dude oh lord well here we are uh what are we talking about ubisoft connect yeah cool yeah reddit users celebrated the death of the ubisoft connect launcher saying please do lord roll it back to previous ubisoft games so i can play them on steam machine without proton tricks one user commented this is all great news i think that like again we need to go where the people are people are playing on steam make things fucking work on steam okay cool thank you ubisoft for doing something uh story number five valve adds big art mode to steam following its popularity in third-party decky loader utility this comes from william judd at digital foundry and it's pretty freaking cool.
47:42Vowels released a new Steam client beta with some interesting new features, most notably a big art mode and a screensaver function when using the handheld TV focused big picture mode, which is awesome. The big art mode seems to be inspired from a similar feature in the Decky Loader third party utility which replaces the standard side-by-side arrangement with one that dedicates much of the viewport to the art of a selected game with additional games appearing in a smaller size towards the bottom of the screen. The screensaver option works similarly showing off the big art or your recent game screenshots in full screen while steam has been idle for a set amount of time your recent game screenshots that's that's pretty cool you just took a sick photo and you're like oh there it is on my home page yeah i would not want this because like i i am not jack quaid like i'm not in here using photo modes and stuff like any screenshot i have is definitely an accident when i was sweaty in a game and like hit the button accidentally uh so we're gonna just get some weird shit um but this is very cool the screensaver option works like i just said additionally custom screensavers can be copied to a specific directory with a bouncing logo screensaver provided by valve as an example other changes in the new beta include improved starter performance better optimized game recording for some dx12 games and other improvements i love this you know i love consider or continuing to see uh steam iterate i think big picture mode is awesome and yeah look at this like this looks kind of what you would want a tv experience or even handheld experience a very console-like experience for steam yeah well and also like let's just be real video games have sick art okay we should be able to appreciate it all the time this hades 2 art gorgeous gorgeous i'm not i want to click over i don't think there is one the expedition 33 imagine what that's looking like it's looking sick probably oh yeah so i i love this i i would rather have this big piece of art than all this other random stuff yeah i think it's so cool no i i love it and that's another thing i love the like the PlayStation because it does a similar thing.
49:37And I love the look of that. Well, Madeline games having beautiful, beautiful front pages. It'd be big. That just wasn't even good. There wasn't even anything. Wait, but we just came from big photo mode or whatever. Big art. Run it back. So right. Oh man. Big art mode. That'd be big news. But if I wanted something smaller, Madeline, where would I go to the Wii news channel for all the smallest neat news you need to know about. Greg's in my head. You know, I hear that. That music started and it's at the bottom of my spine that it first starts. It goes all the way up and it's the bad chills. PlayStation Plus premium extra games for September are RuneScape, Dragon Wilds, WWE 2K26, Ball Pit, Date Everything, Slitterhead, Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, Dungeons of Hinderberg, and Sniper Elite Resistance.
50:28In premium, you're getting Mega Man X Command Mission and Metro Redux. and then DECA police has been delayed to 2027. Womp womp. Womp womp. That's it for WeNews. There we go. See what we got wrong and you're wrong. Oh my God, Madeline, would you believe it? Look at that. Nothing. Nothing. Not a single thing. Is kebabs in chat? Is kebabs okay? I saw kebabs earlier, I think. Interesting. Interesting. Does that mean the web URL is broken? Something must be wrong. something's wrong um let's get to super chats here Mr. C9048 says I think this is such a blow to Sony's exclusive lineup Horizon and Ghosts are basically stepped up Ubisoft games Naughty Dog does one game a decade um I mean I don't think I think a stepped up Ubisoft game isn't the insult that you're making it out to be I feel like you know that's actually a good thing and I think that those are very very very high quality and like very well received and well selling games right so getting those is good but we need more you know especially when we're used to getting more um and yeah looking at naughty dog and knowing that they've wasted i mean by any definition they wasted years a long time you know on last of us online and yeah all eyes on intergalactic i'm incredibly excited like i don't think that they're it's definitely top three things in life I'm most excited for like any medium movies tv music games like intergalactic should rock when are we playing it you know like I don't know I don't even feel like we have a concept right like we could say 2029 2028 is that reasonable yeah definitely I mean I think we can say 2027 really i do yeah i i don't i wouldn't bet on it but i think it's definitely possible um i i can't believe that we're getting god of war laffy so soon yes like that being february next year and they announced it summer this year it's like oh wow like i put the the next sony monica project and naughty dogs next project kind of in similar conversation spaces and so that happening i'm like all right there's a chance that intergalactic is further along than we know then then we know but there's also the reality that they were working on last night online a long time and neil druckman was off making a tv show for a long time for years you know so that's uh it's a lot of pressure to to put on a team um especially when the expectations are as high as they are because they need to be like there are a few games that have that level of scrutiny attached because of how expensive it's going to be and what came before it right like that's why we talk about gta six and it's like yeah man like the expectations are through the roof because they need to be and rockstar set them themselves right and the audience did by showing up and continuing to support for so many years i think the same thing's true for naughty dog where it's like they are the crown jewel of the playstation studios and if they fuck that up that's not going to be good no it's not no it is but we're hoping for positive absolutely absolutely um
53:59yeah i'm excited i'm excited for interstellar not interstellar intergalactic yep interstellar is a great movie though it is uh johnny says i'm glad about the sale but it's really funny when you think about the lawsuit about the tariff stuff against Nintendo. I don't remember exactly which one you're talking about there, but man, I, the world sucks, Madeline. I hate having to just go back to that statement. But like, I really wish for a multitude of reasons. We lived in a reality where Trump's not president and the world's not as bad as it is. Oh yes. But just to focus on the video game side of things for a little bit, I wonder what an alternate reality looks like where ramageddon and all this ai nonsense and all this bullshit didn't happen isn't happening how well are consoles selling the steam machine comes out does it start to get some market share do we start to see like a thriving video game economy like i'm just so bummed at the what ifs because it's like at a time whenever everyone's struggling so much it just seems like the foundation is falling apart yeah more and more and more it's just like a cascading issue of problems like one goes into the next into the next into the next into the next and we need a stopper yeah and we have no stopper ready to step up well we might have one ready to step up we have no stopper in place right now yeah we'll see we'll see after this everyone we're doing the wolverine review on PlayStation 5, a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
55:37Did we like it? Did we love it? I can't wait to find out. Yeah, neither can I. I can't wait for you to hear us talk about it on the Kind of Funny Gamescast right after this. Madeline, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you for hanging out all week. This has been fun. So fun. Having you as Michael Myers. Yeah. What a good time. I'll be doing it again today. Hell yes. The stream today will be more fun. But until next time, y 'all, Game Daily. Goodbye. Thank you.
