In short

Ipswich Town’s 3-0 away win over Blackburn Rovers, with discussion of the match’s early goals, Ipswich’s improved tempo, key chances, referee/VAR talking points, and injuries/next game narrative.

Guests

Two hosts—“old one” and “young one” (Alex). They are Ipswich Town podcast commentators. No external guests are interviewed in the transcript; they also include post-match quotes from manager Kieran McKenna and player Jack Taylor.

Key claims

  • Ipswich executed the game plan, especially defensively in the first half, and deserved the three points.
  • The team’s build-up has improved: faster, more incisive passing and better “wavelength” between players.
  • Blackburn’s comeback threat was blunted; Ipswich didn’t kill it off early enough.
  • Referee decisions: no penalty for Ipswich on one shout; Furlong’s elbow on Cantwell should be a red in VAR terms; another Ipswich penalty shout on Azon is argued as clear.

Notable examples

  • 12-minute start: early own goal by Aaron Cashin, then Jack Taylor’s long-range finish after a set piece.
  • Third goal: Wes Burns’ selfless layoff to Sam Morsy? (actually Sammy Smoddix) for his first Portman Road goal for Ipswich.
  • Jadon Philogene knee injury after the game; hope for a short absence.
  • Sam Morsy returns to Portman Road with Bristol City; expected to start and receive a major reception.

0:08Mark Heath:Hello friends and welcome to your Monday morning edition of the Kings of Anglia Ipswich Town podcast proudly sponsored by Molecular UK and Stardust Spirits. Just the two of us today, the old one and the young one. We're on a delay on this podcast. Let's push it back by 15 minutes because young Alex was eating a posh breakfast, weren't you, my posh young friend? allow me allow me to eat my my late morning croissants you first you're outraged by when i was eating them yeah and then you were outraged by the fact i was just eating them full stop so yes i i'm um appropriately energized especially with my coffee because you know how important that is to me um so yes i will at least be full and sat here like probably shaking and jittering with all the caffeine though croissant for breakfast that's not the breakfast of a criminal a hardened criminal like yourself hey what what am i going to when i when i'm in on the inside what what do they serve do we know slop gruel no so no no different to when when i was at school before okay that's all right well i think it probably was slightly different when you were at school given that you're at posh school as well i don't i'm not sure i'm not sure it's quite the same as uh eton or wherever you were harrow well yeah i was thinking i i would assume that by slop and gruel you meant quail eggs.

1:25Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

1:28Mark Heath:I had eggs for breakfast. Of course, old friend, I had an omelette breakfast of the working man. As I was just saying, lots of get the protein in. Yeah. I'm a bit, I'm a bit bored of omelettes if I'm fair. Anyway, friends enough talk of breakfast and eggs and croissants because we have an Ipswich town wind to talk about another one, three nil over Blackburn Rovers, tremendous stuff. We thought it might be a tricky game, but they navigated it quite well, AJ. So I'll ask you for your opening thoughts and then we'll hear, from McKenna. We can get right into the various talking points because there's quite a lot of talking points from this one.

1:58Mark Heath:What did you make of it all? Yeah. You know what? That point you made there is quite interesting. We thought it was going to be a tricky game and I did. I, on the drive over there, had kind of looked through the results again that Blackburn hadn't thought. This stinks of a nil-nil. And I really wish I'd gone with that as my prediction, which obviously in hindsight now, I'm quite happy with what I did. But I was really feeling that way. Obviously, you remember the two previous games at Ewood Park, which were what they were, and the fact that although Blackburn aren't great, they don't tend to lose that many games.

2:30And there was a lot of things that I thought would cause Zip Switch problems. And then as Stu referred to, and I don't really want to dub him in it, but we were sat in the press room before the game and the way that Blackburn's media and local reporters were talking about their hopes for how this one would go gave me quite a sense of confidence, to be perfectly honest, about it. And then I kind of understood what they meant after, what was it, like 12 minutes into this game. So, yeah, it was the 12 minutes of glory, really, that were exactly what Ipswich needed. They've not really had that this season, where they've gone and put themselves in such an early commanding position, two goals inside 12 minutes.

3:13Kind of story of the season so far and not putting it to bed, but then do finally get to do that right at the end of the game for three points. And things look quite rosy now, don't they?

3:22Mark Heath:They do indeed. Let's hear from Kieran McKenna, and then we can talk about the various moments in the game. Yeah, I think it was a good performance, good result,

3:35Kieran McKenna:a good step for us. I spoke yesterday about tactically the type of game it would be, and that sort of all played out. And I thought we executed some stuff well in terms of how we played over the pressure at times. and had big chances just from click-ons and second balls, but also played through the pressure really well. Good to get the early goals. I think defensively our intensity in the first half was really, really good. Never really dropped to give the opposition a moment. Another game that we would have liked to have really killed it off earlier in terms of the third goal. We weren't as clinical as we could have been, but actually I thought our intent and our ideas was really good.

4:15Kieran McKenna:We just didn't manage to get the finish or should have had a penalty. Different things like that didn't go away. But I thought the ideas of the players and the intent was good. One or two moments in the second half that we switched off on that we'll review and keep pushing ourselves on. But I think another day of decent progress and a good three points.

4:36Mark Heath:OK then, as we said, we thought it was going to be difficult, given that we have evidence exactly pointing to that from the two previous games, only one of which counted. But they started well, started really fast, got the opening goal inside the first couple of minutes. And it was, okay, it wasn't technically scored by an Ipswich Town player, but it was a classic Ipswich Town goal playing out from the back. And I don't know if someone knew this doesn't get an assist for this. Surely he should. Yeah, it was Stu's argument at the time. He seemed quite passionate against it. But when I mentioned it to him afterwards, he's like, oh, no, no, no, I'm not that strong on it.

5:11Well, he said he shouldn't get an assist. No, he should have got an assist. Yeah, yeah. And I was saying, I don't really know. I suppose it is tricky and maybe it depends on situation, situation and goals. But we are in a position where if it's an own goal, there is no assist credited, which is fair, I think, in some cases and harsh in others. First thing to say, I think, on this team was exactly what I expected from it. I nailed my predicted line-up, so that was nice. and they started well with those kind of front players linking up was exactly what we wanted to see. Philogene laying it off for Nunez down the left and then it's that Nunez cross that's...

5:54I was a little bit disappointed probably that George Hurst wasn't in a better position for this because Catherine actually is basically in a separate postcode to everyone else. And I thought this would have been an easy cutout. I was a little bit disappointed that someone like maybe a Taylor on from midfield or Hurst or Sindra wasn't there to get into a better position to tap it in, but they didn't need it because I have no clue what Aaron Cashin is trying to do here. There's no one around him. He's under no pressure whatsoever, and the way he turns it into his own net, he almost places it in the top corner, which is a remarkable thing to do given those circumstances.

6:33I almost feel a bit bad for him given that this is his league debut. He's had a torrid old time on loan at Birmingham. He's come here kind of like, oh yeah, new lease of life, new opportunity. And the first thing he does is turn the ball into his own net. So yeah, that probably couldn't have gone much worse for him, but it's the ideal start for town. It comes as well. There's quite a funny bit that we add up in the press box where Stu turns to me, because he picked Hugh Brackpump as his first goal scorer. He turns to me and says, just for the record, I am picking, I think he said George Hurst will be my first scorer.

7:08And he literally went and he put it in our chat, as you would have seen. You know, for the record, George Hurst, my first goal scorer. As he pressed send on that, the Nunez ball gets played through as Cashin turns it in and everything is wiped clean off the slate. So there you go. Dream start for Ipswich. And as I said, I still can't quite believe what Eirann Cashin did and what on earth was going through his head in that moment.

7:32Mark Heath:Okay, so 1-0. Great start. And obviously they make it even better shortly afterwards. But before that, there were other chances. Sindra goes close with a kind of half volley, which is saved. In terms of the... We've talked a lot on this podcast about the kind of... In terms of the frustrations of watching in Switch Town has been the speed of build-up play. But that seems certainly in this game and in other recent games to have taken a step forward. Is that fair, would you say? Are they playing it quicker? Yeah, so much better. I mean, the whole team in so many aspects feels like they've had...

8:06a huge kick up the backside since the, funnily enough, since the last game against Blackburn, that really felt like, and I know you love me using this term, so I will use it. It felt like the Nadir, didn't it? Yes. This was the low point of the campaign. It was the strongest I've seen Kieran McKenna go on a team that hadn't even lost that game, but they were shockingly bad against Blackburn at Ewood Park. And take aside the defeater, Leicester, which will really grind on me for various reasons, that one, but take aside that. They've been really, really good since then. Really impressive. And especially since the new year and since that win at commentary at the CBS Arena, so many different aspects of their game have developed a lot.

8:46And the one that stands out is the one that you mentioned there. It's the speed at which they play. It's the way that they can slice teams open. And that's what I associate with the 2023-2014, the one that got promoted, the Band of Brothers, where it was pass, pass, pass, but it wasn't like pass without purpose. they were cutting teams open. It was these kind of cross-field Morsi balls that we get played up to Davis on the left and all of a sudden the opposition's team would be cut to ribbons. And we saw that so often at times in this game where it would be a Nunez ball and all of a sudden Philogene would be away down the left and then the run of Davis would come and all of a sudden Taylor would know where to be and everything is happening not only quicker but it's happening right.

9:29They're all on the same wavelength now. So yeah, the intensity is good. but it feels like something's clicked there for sure.

9:35Mark Heath:That's what we've been waiting for, isn't it? That kind of, that almost telepathic understanding that they had in the back-to-back promotions knitting together. And they knitted together, Julian went 2-0 up and I bet you in the press box were giving it some of this. Jack Taylor, your boy! My boy, apart from his Peterborough United links. Yeah, honestly, the best part about this goal was the build-up to the corner and I was quite disappointed. It actually didn't lead to a goal. When I talk about like cutting teams to ribbons, This is it, 100%. Hurst, good display for me in this game, drops deep, that little layoff to Nunez.

10:13He did it in the first goal, actually. It should be credited. Hurst dropping deep, really important, does it here. Lays it off to Nunez. And Nunez, I keep thinking, I see, every time he does one of these passes, I'm like, that's the best pass I've seen at Portman Road this season. He's probably done it about seven or eight times. But the way, again, he just essentially cuts the pitch in half with this one looping ball over the top. Kind of first time played. And it ends up with, I think it's Davies who lays it off to Philidine who wins the corner. And then the corner is taken in by Nunez. It's headed down by O'Shea, who's a real set piece threat in this game.

10:47Could have had a couple because when you mentioned those chances before, he had one cleared off the line as well. Heads it down. Toth, the Blackburn goalkeeper, who did quite well in this game, but didn't cover himself in glory here. Claimed the foul. didn't get two hands on the ball in comes jack taylor pounces on it um and smashes into the net i'm i haven't seen that many jack taylor goals i haven't been scored from about 30 odd yards so this felt a little bit weird in a way but um yeah delighted for him because he needed a bit of lift off having not scored so far this season that's a perfect point then to hear from mr

11:21Mark Heath:taylor cracker jack jack's allowed all that kind of stuff let's hear from your man jack jack how important a win was that this afternoon? Yeah, it was obviously a tough opponent that we've struggled in the away fixture away from there. They're a tight man-to-man team and make it feel like you're not playing great sometimes. But yeah, delighted with how we started, especially in the first half, we showed our best intensity and thankfully we were 2-0 up at the break and could have played better second half and put the game to bed a bit earlier, but three points is all that matters.

11:50Kieran McKenna:I was going to ask you about the second half, because at 2-0 at that stage, you probably expected it to be 3-4 a bit quicker. Yeah, we obviously had a couple of breakout chances and chances where we probably could have, like I said, put the game to bed a bit earlier. But still won 3-0 at home, another clean sheet, which is another stepping stone for the lads. Yeah, just a good day at the office. How much have those clean sheets been into you? Been a fair few recently. Yeah, we know we can score goals from all around the pitch. So we start as get a clean sheet, then we're most likely going to win the game.

12:23so defend first but like I said I thought the first half today we showed our best intensity and they couldn't really deal with us so they had a couple of breakout chances in the second half but I feel like we dealt with it quite well

12:38Kieran McKenna:And a terrific run at home as well now Yeah we like to use this as like a fortress as they say so we're trying to make it a hard place to come and pick up points which is in the end goal where we want to get promoted it's going to be massive for us How pleasing to get your first goal of the season as well. Yeah, yeah. Some finish, wasn't it? Yeah, I was delighted, yeah. I said that I needed to get... One's going to drop to me in the box for a set play at some point. It's not my best goal of my career, but yeah, just delighted. Is it going to be the first of a few this season? I should hope so, yeah.

13:12That's the aim for myself and my personal goals is always to try and get goals to go to my game. But like I said, yeah, just delighted with the three points.

13:23Mark Heath:okay there's Jack and as Brenna said there then they're tuned it up early doors I guess the frustration would be that they don't they then take all the way to the end of the game to properly kill it off in terms of the opportunities they have and that kind of thing was that again an issue if you're looking at kind of not negatives but kind of slight frustrations from the win yeah I think I can probably excuse some of the first half because the levels fell off a cliff towards the end of it but I think that so much of the momentum had been damaged. You want them to put their foot to the floor, especially just before halftime.

14:00Get a third just before then, and that would be really important. And one of the big reasons I couldn't do that, of course, is because Jaden Philogene goes off, is receiving treatment for a while, and then comes off with about five minutes to go. So I can kind of excuse that period. A little bit beforehand, I thought that Blackburn had woken up and Town had got into a little bit of a complacent pattern where we've seen this before, to be fair, where they've maybe gone a goal or two up and feel very comfortable. I think that the first 15, 20 minutes of this match, Blackburn looked like they'd never seen a ball before, to be perfectly honest.

14:36They looked like they'd kind of just discovered fire. They offered absolutely zilch. And then all of a sudden things started to click for them. The big moment in this game for me was, as well, lots of mix-ups at the back for Town that Blackburn weren't able to pounce on, but they did on one where they almost gave away a penalty. Possibly Kipra was a little bit fortunate not to bring down. I think it was Baraji in that one. The big moment came when there was a ball that got played through from Tronstad and that ended up falling at the feet of Ahashi, who got just as he was about to shoot, saw O'Shea get in front of the ball to stop that because I think that easily could have been 2-1.

15:18And 2-1 is a totally different story. But they get in at 2-0. And then going into the second half, again, it felt like they were kind of building up to the first five minutes getting there. They started to turn the screw, but it took until maybe around the final 20 minutes or so, subs coming on for things to really open up. And that was where it felt like they could have had three goals towards the end of it. In the end, it's one that kills it. But my God, did they have to work hard for it. Sometimes it was like with Ipswich that they have to create about five chances to score a goal. And it definitely felt that way towards the end of the game.

15:54Mark Heath:We should, of course, talk about Jadon's injury. You just touched on it there. Knee after the game, McKenna said. From memory, he's had knee issues before, hasn't he? Yeah. That's clearly a concern. We don't know how long he's going to be out for, indeed how bad it is. but clearly, you know, King of Portman Road, 10 goals, star man this season in terms of goals. There's obviously a, you know, a ready-made backup in Jack Clark to step in, but if they're without Jadon for any length of time, that's going to be a problem, isn't it? Yeah, I mean, it's not a bad backup to have though, is it? No, it's great, but I mean, obviously, if you take out the guys who's leading scorer, that's going to be an issue.

16:31It is exceptional, yeah. Yeah, for sure. And the hope is that it won't be bad. I'm sure we'll get an update after the Bristol City game. tomorrow hopefully with a clearer picture of um of what the timeline timeline's going to be with jayden philajeen i'd be astonished to see him anywhere near the team yeah tomorrow and to be honest for the sheffield united game and i wouldn't be surprised for the rest of this month um and the hope i would say would be to have him back for that busy run of away games coming up although it would be nice if he could start scoring away wouldn't it um totally innocuous injury this we didn't see how it happened i think when we saw some of the replays there's no real pressure under him um and he ends up going down at the time he looked like he was going to be able to play on but ends up getting brought off he walked fine to be honest is my one crumb of like comfort that comes with it but um how many times have you seen that and then it turns out to be a serious injury so maybe you can't really base too much on the way he walks or what his reaction was to it afterwards you don't want to take a risk with jayden philogene just get him off the pitch that was the right call um 100 percent um and yeah hopefully it won't be a significant one my gut says it probably won't be but at least as we've said there's that ready-made player to step up in in Jack Clark who I'm sure would relish the opportunity to now get some some minutes with a couple of games in the next week and Preston just before uh the deadline but no doubt a huge blow given the quality he has yeah let's hope you say it's only minor and um he only misses a game if indeed he does at all well friend before we get to the third goal all of the talk well a lot of the talking points

18:10Mark Heath:happen chronologically from this point in the second half you've got the the furlong push on Ohashi I mean we had obviously Waini Valerian after the game again no sheet of paper this time like the game at Ewood Park where he kept going in his press conference with a written list of all of the things that referees have done to him over the course of the season I don't have a lot of time for managers to come out and slaggle for referees post-game, I've got to be honest. But anyway, we need to talk about it. Clearly, there was the elbow from Furlong, again, Furlong on Cantwell. And then, you know, an argument that Town should have had a penalty later on with Azan.

18:46So, do you want to talk about those in order? Have you got any strong views on any of those issues? So, let me get this order right. So, we've got, pardon me, penalty shout, elbow, Azan. Those are three in order. Yeah, okay. penalty shout not for me personally um i'll tell you what when i saw it in at full speed i was a little bit more kind of 50 50 on this one where obviously furlong the ball gets cut back there's actually an off the ball instant because ahashi hasn't got control of the ball but um furlong kind of shoves him a little bit inside the box um i think that ahashi goes down like a sack of buds to be perfectly honest is not strong enough i understand that sometimes when you're pushed you will fall but i didn't really feel like there was enough in it and i feel like you need to have something that's at least convincing enough especially for an off the ball incident especially when it's not like an actual tackle for it to be given um so yeah i can understand some grievances with it but for me no um and also no to the um i know there were a couple of questions about when Walton goes and gets the ball and Cantwell throws himself over him.

19:57Yeah, that's a no for me. The elbow, I feel like we're going to have differing opinions on this, Mr Heath. I'm not overly surprised that it wasn't given in real time. If VAR was in use, if this was a Premier League football game, I cannot see a world in which Darnell Furlong escapes a red card for that one because it's the way that he almost checks back and throws the elbow back as he does it. for subscribers you could see me doing the actions there as well so this is a good reason to subscribe um yeah and catches Cantwell directly in the face it is quite a painful one um I know from an Ipswich perspective you probably there'll be a few fans saying oh it's Todd Cantwell so it won't matter but um yeah for me um yeah I think that that probably was would have been a fair red card I want to get your points on that one before we move on to the Alzan one what what do you think on the elbow well as i said in in probably uh words i can't repeat now uh in the group yesterday

20:54Mark Heath:you put in for me that's fairly innocuous it's just players battling for the ball occasionally an elbow strays out doesn't it and you just you just have to crack on um that's my take on it it's the way that he kind of turns and checks back and it almost feels like he's really kind of going for it on purpose some of these things as well are really subjective like they're not that black and white are they i think everything everything looks worse in slow motion as well doesn't it in the kind of full at full speed you've got two professional athletes battling for a ball it's impossible to battle for a ball without using it in the same way as it's impossible to jump without using your arms it's kind of hard to battle for a ball without sticking your elbows out um and occasionally you're going to catch strays i don't from my perception is that it it wasn't deliberate um and campwell makes a meal of it and i won't i won't i won't stray into the into the other realms i was talking about yesterday because i get into trouble when i start talking about that especially especially if stew's around but anyway um however i will say that the the penalty shout again for me it falls into that you've seen them given bracket yeah um again you know watching back in slow motion obviously it looks worse i don't know old valerian comes out and says we need var in the championship now, which I'm not sure about that.

22:14Mark Heath:So that's going to catch on. So I would say the first one for me of the two is the one that potentially there's an argument that could have been given. But I think that the elbow is just, can't while making a meal of it, you're going to get caught every now and then. It's a contact sport, football. It should be anyway. How relieved are you that there is no VR in the championship? because it hadn't really kind of dawned on me that we're out of this cycle now yeah and sometimes i go back and i think to the pods that we recorded last year and it's like i just remember like week after week it was well we better talk about the var decision now we better talk about the via and like it was just the same thing over and over and i think that there's an interesting point that stew made to me i was talking about um the the fa cup a couple of weeks ago yeah a week or so ago and he said that i've seen a lot of reaction from premier league side to like i forgot how enjoyable football can be when you're not watching your team score a goal but thinking hang on let's not celebrate too much because it might get ruled out here or or always dreading that the stadium announcer will say there's a var check in place i agree with that i understand that there's some decisions that will be quite wildly wrong at times but god it's enjoyable to not have it isn't it absolutely i don't think i fully appreciated just how much of a pain in the proverbial VR was until last season because I haven't been watching games with that in it, with the team that we cover involved.

23:42Mark Heath:So you're watching games as a casual, well, that's different to when you've got skin in the game, as it were. And it's just so frustrating, isn't it? Clearly, it's not going to go anywhere. But for me, it's just the way they use it. It's so wrong. And obviously, if town go back up, we're going to have the same issue again next season, aren't we? So you don't want them to go up? No, I do. but that is going to be one of the major drawbacks isn't it if they do go up they're going to have this this thing that the kind of the thief of joy if you like every week or the the thing that slows down what should be a fast-paced game which already has you know some issues with with time in play and all that kind of stuff takes even more time away from it but the frustration for me about var is that it's a good idea every sport every major sport in the world uses video replay to a certain extent to make sure things are right it's just the way they use it it shouldn't be so complicated um so anyway i don't i mean valerian in a way you could say has a point because if they've got var in the premier league surely it should then be used in every level beneath it at professional football it shouldn't be just you get to london milk and honey and there you have it it should be every level of professional football i've kind of got sympathy for him there um but i'm pleased we don't have it after all that yeah same so we've got we've got the penalty shout that wasn't or was but wasn't given then there's the elbow and then there's a there's a penalty shout at the other end on a zone which um again falls into very much the bracket if you've seen them given yeah again um i was very surprised the referee didn't give this one to be perfectly honest um the replays make it make me question it a little bit more, but I still think there is enough contact in there from Aaron Cashin on Azon that means that this should be given in my mind.

25:32And again, if it goes to VAR, the contact there, does he get a bit on the ball? Yeah, but I think he catches too much of the man, to be perfectly honest. I'm still actually questioning. The angles are a bit rubbish that we've seen, but I'm still actually questioning how much, if any, of the ball that he really gets on it totally wipes out Azon. The way that he approaches him kind of half from behind it's a needless tackle um so many elements of that i would have given as a penalty full speed looked clear cut again it's one of those where this goes back almost to the var argument when you slow it down into like microseconds this is almost like on the flip side sometimes where it doesn't look as bad when you do it that way when you're like oh actually has he got a little bit of a touch there but when i saw it full speed.

26:19I thought it was still on some of the replays. I think it's clear enough to have given it. Does it balance out with a couple of decisions that went to Nipstic's favour? Perhaps. I always wonder as well, do the referees do that? Do they think, oh, well, I maybe could have given a penalty up that end and that could have been a penalty as well. I didn't give that. I might not give that. I don't know. Just theorising. It was a clear penalty for me and I would have given it, but thankfully not needed. Yeah, it doesn't matter in the end.

26:46Mark Heath:My take on that is he goes through the man to win the ball, if indeed he does win the ball. But as I've already said, I find slagging off refs after games boring. So let's talk about the positive, because Sammy Smoddix gets the killer third goal. It's a thing of beauty. Kieran McKenna actually made a point after the game to talk about this goal in particular, because he said it's something they've been working on, that kind of selflessness. And it's our friend Wes Burns, who is that selfless player who could have taken a shot easily, lays it off. Sammy Smoddix gets his first goal of the season, first goal at Portman Road.

27:17Mark Heath:And that feels big. It feels significant. But is it his first goal at Portman Road, Mark? Well, in the Ipswich town colours. I know he scored at Portman Road before, but playing as a town player, it is, yeah. Yeah, exactly. That was one thing as well, funnily enough, that Jack Taylor, formerly of Peterborough United, I think he probably played in that team with Sam Smoddix in that very game, made a point to say, well, it's actually his first goal here for Ipswich, which is a fair point to make, I suppose. um yeah i love this this whole move i also love the ipswich town on social media i don't know if you've seen these videos oh someone in the south stand with a camera and they slow it down they'll put some music over the top of it and you get to watch all of that great aren't they it's next on my list don't you worry i've got i've got sorry in slow-mo yeah fair enough um yeah sorry go on Well, we might as well talk about the goal and then we can talk about the slow-mo.

28:13Mark Heath:But so I saw you highlighting Azon again, his effort in this. Obviously, wins the ball, lays it off to Jens, who charges forward as only he can. So it's important to go back and acknowledge those contributions as well. Yeah, and you don't see them from a lot of the clips, actually. You can't really appreciate them. It's a fair play also for Ipswich for doing those clips. You really get to see the other side of it. Azon, great strength and determination. He's got a man behind him. He's got someone else closing him down. He uses his strength to turn and play it over to Jens Kijusta. And Kijusta probably second to O'Shea.

28:48And Nunez is great at those defence-splitting passes in the way that he just slots that through ball up to Wes. Also, shout out to Cedric Kipre. He's very good at those passes as well. But yeah, slots it through to Wes, gets into that angle where... It was quite similar, I think, to the goal he scored against Huddersfield that Tam went up with. It's that similar kind of angle. Thought he would have shot there. Would have been his homecoming goal if he'd got that first goal back at Portman Road and selflessly squares it to Sam Smoddix, who fires in. That was one that Sam Smoddix couldn't miss. It feels like he's missed quite a few golden opportunities to score, not just this season, but full stop at Portman Road in an Ipswich Town shirt.

29:32I like the celebration as well. Lots of respect to his former club, Blackburn, that he very clearly loves, that still had to make sure. He did a little salute in front of the Sir Bobby Robson lower, which was nice. Wraps up the game. Felt like Town had done enough to score about 10 goals at this point. But that was quite a poetic way to finish things off.

29:53Mark Heath:And speaking of poetry, as I've already alluded to, whoever came up with the idea to be putting out these slow-mo clips with the music over should immediately get a raise. Marcus, Hutchie, if you're listening, give that person a raise. Probably one of you two. But they are great. I mean, we had the Filagene. The best one I've seen is obviously the Filagene one against Norwich, the goal, with a little pirouette, and then he absolutely unleashes it. That's beautiful. But I would argue there's not many players who look better in slow motion than Jens Kijusta. The way he kind of drives forward, he's got, as I always say, kind of languidly athletic, and he looks even better in slow motion, kind of deceptively quick, the way he moves with the ball.

30:37Mark Heath:they're beautiful to watch AJ I mean it reminds me what in essence a beautiful sport football is when you see it in slow motion the skill, the athleticism the drama of it all it's lovely my favourite of them all was the Jack Clark one that they the Jack Clark the Norwich the Norwich goal so the one where Azon hits the post and Clark gets the rebound they've done a slow motion one to that which was the one they had for Jack Clark's chant question mark they've used that one brilliant love that one that was really really good not only because of everything in slow motion on the pitch but the fans reactions when you see Alisson go through on goal and he dinks the ball over and he hits the post and you see all the fans like in total dismay and then watching Clark come in and score the rebound that is the best one for me talk about like the actual drama of it all that is what highlights it um but also then getting to see as you say what happens on the pitch i agree that probably the player that suits slow motion the most is jens kiusta because of how he moves yeah i don't want to use the words again because i feel like i use them every time i'm talking about it but it's silky and smooth and the way that he kind of dances past players and um there was another one he'd done before it might have been i think the sheffield wednesday game where i think there's a slow motion bit of him sending barry bannon and absolutely flying.

32:03It's that one, yeah. Yeah, and he's totally effortless in doing it. He just spins past people for fun, and it's so fun watching other... I hate the term so fun, I'm sorry. It's so enjoyable to watch opposition players come clattering through, trying to stop him, and they go absolutely flying, trying to get there as Jens spins away and sets up a goal. Yeah, you really get to appreciate how good some of these goals are when you have the alternate angle to watch them from.

32:33Mark Heath:I like the fact as well, when you said Jack Clark then, the one that immediately sprung to mind is they don't always put just goals out. So just moments in games, which watching in a game is like a split second thing. And I can't remember who it was against, but it was when he basically juggled the ball over someone, like flicked over them and went around the player to pick it up. I can't remember. I can't remember. But anyway, in the game, it's like a second. and you go, oh, that was nice. But in slow motion, it looks so much better. It's beautiful to watch. So I'm really enjoying them anyway.

33:08I want to talk to you about the Sindra and Wes chat. Because obviously, we've had Sindra start all season and now Wes is back. He's got a goal. He's got an assist. And I know, as it always is, the old discourse on social media, even after wins. It seemed to be Sindra this weekend that was the one that was being highlighted as not doing enough and this, that and the other. 19-year-old, by the way, just to remind you. Norwegian teenager. What do you make of that? Because now that Wes is back and we don't know how close he is to be able to start games, obviously, I know he started in the FA Cup, but starting a championship is a different thing.

33:45But the Wes Byrne role, as we've so often said, is kind of a key pillar in what McKenna wants in his side. He plays that very specifically, you know direct physical hammering balls into the box that's what wes burns gives you do you think there's going to be a point relatively soon where we might be talking about wes being back to to first choice there

34:10no i don't think i think it's cindra's place to lose i am interested to see whether there could be a bit of a reshuffle that'll be the only way i could see it is would cindra valo he's spoken about i see myself as a number 10 in the long term and i've spoken to the manager and he sees me as a number 10 will there come a point where that's where his minutes will be and you go back to that direct runner down the right i could certainly see that um i don't think it's going to be imminently i don't think we're suddenly going to see um changes there they're very different players of course it's just wears his pure pace pure athleticism running get to the byline cross um whereas cindra is more of a dribbler he's more someone that he won't want to do as much running because he wants to cut inside and shoot or cut inside and play someone in space um almost is does almost act as kind of a right side of number 10 and possibly within the team there are question marks i don't think over cindra personally but over whether his profile suits the right side of 10 role it's kind of what it is in this um ipswich team especially when you then don't have a right back behind you that's running on stretching the pitch because it's darnell furlong who doesn't really do that um and cindra has good moments kind of hugging the touchline his best is when he's kind of coming a little bit more inside and opens up space to shoot or to cross and even though he hasn't got loads of goals of assists he is still contributing in really good moments um and testing the goalkeeper things like that so um look it's cindra for me i think that he will only improve with minutes i'm sure that he will kick on as well i thought he was quite good in this game i thought that i've been a little bit disappointed with him in previous weeks but i thought that this was probably a step up i wasn't wouldn't say it's one of his best but for sure i liked what a lot of what he was doing um and i think he will get the majority of minutes coming up but i'll tell you what i really want to see from syndra put your foot through it that's what i want there's too many times now where he cuts in off the right and you're thinking i've seen these clips on youtube and then he rolls a p roller into the goalkeeper no come on i really want to see a proper thunder bastard from uh from syndra yeah fingers crossed before we kind of wrap up and start talking about about bristol city and

36:39Mark Heath:hashtag narrative all over the gaff tomorrow night um is there anyone else any other bits you want to kind of highlight i know you had uh nunez as your as your mom yeah from this game he has been fairly spectacular hasn't he since he's he's made that 10 spot his own yeah he has he's brilliant um yeah another marcelino masterclass as i wrote and i very much enjoyed writing the line there were two former norwich city midfielders on the pitch at portman road and nunez was by far and away the superior here he just runs the show the the best way I can put it. It feels like everything goes through him.

37:13It feels like he's centre to everything. He gets to do that in the number 10 role as well. That's a big thing, where when he's playing deeper, it feels like he's influencing the earlier stages of moves, which doesn't suit him as much as being the assist or the pre-assist, or sometimes even the final touch to turn it into the net, where that's what he wants to be, and it allows him to influence games a lot more in that number 10 role. Just so good. So, so good. So, yeah, delighted for him again. I want to touch on the strikers before we finish as well. There's something I tweeted about. George Hurst has come under a lot of fire this weekend.

37:50And I think even Azan's even caught a few strays in that, despite only playing for a few minutes. And, again, I'm not going to throw this into the category of George Hurst's best performances, but more than fine for me in this game. and I don't know if there's an expectation that he's a striker so he has to score goals or everything has to be perfect all the time. You know that there are certain deficiencies that Hurst will have. He's not a clinical striker. He sometimes can let his first touch get away from him, but you cannot underestimate what he actually does for the team. The fact that he plays quite an important part in dropping deep and linking up the first two goals in this game the fact that he was able to keep the back line busy for Blackburn those three centre-backs was battling hard with them all the time and he brings others into play and I understand that you want to sign someone and Ipswich will want to sign someone I'm sure that is more clinical in front of goal because between Hurst and Azon they've left far too many goals out there for sure in terms of chances missed but I would rather have that than sign someone for example a Joel Peru hangs around the goal doesn't press, doesn't bring others into play, and the team suffers as a result, I think that Ipswich are so much better off having Hurst, having Adon, who both work their socks off and do things to bring Philogene into play, bring Nunez into play, bring Sindra into play, bring Casey McAteer, Wes Burns, whoever, into the game to impact it than have Hurst score another five goals this season.

39:23I'd much rather have that. The fact that the two strikers have played important goals in all three, sorry, important roles in all three of the goals for me is a perfect example of that one so yeah enough moments especially in the second half where Hurst had poor touches or whatever he has also not played for a month it should be said but um all things considered I was pretty pleased with how he dealt and I don't want this to trend towards uh Hurst becoming a bit of a scapegoat because I think that'll be unfair

39:51Mark Heath:it's that simplistic thing isn't it striker striker must score goals if striker's not scoring loads of goals, bad striker. And the stuff that he does that, as you say, is of benefit to the team, is exactly what McKenna wants, that's kind of not as sexy, is it? Nowhere near as sexy as scoring goals, the kind of donkey work, if you like, the leg work, the effort, all that kind of stuff. It flies under the radar. It's very easy to overlook. It's harder to notice. And as well, I'm not saying he's perfect either because there's times where he did try and drop deep and link up play, and sometimes his first touch would get away from him.

40:24There was one moment in the second half which got quite a few years where he almost just tripped himself up trying to get to the ball. He's not perfect, and there are strikers that could be signed that would do some elements better, including sticking the ball in the net. But Ipswich, in their current position as well, are not going to sign a striker who will score 15 goals to now at the end of the season, who will drop deep and link up play and bring others into play, and will also do all of the hard work, all of the dirty work, press defenders, handle back threes, they're not going to sign Liam Zalaf in the championship.

40:57Simple as. They're not going to sign someone of that ilk. I'm not saying that when Ipswich eventually, whenever that is going to be, make it back up to the Premier League. I want George Hurst to be leading the line week in, week out. But I don't think that in an Ipswich team, in a McKenna team, you're going to get a great deal better in the championship. And that's not to say I don't want another striker in. I want someone who can put the ball in the net, please, on a consistent basis, which Hurst can't do and Aswan can't do. And I don't think Chubarak-Pom can do. But I don't think that that is going to be make or break this window, for starters.

41:32And I prioritise other things. In an Ipswich Town striker and a Kieran McKenna striker, I would so much rather have him bring others into play, drop deep, link things up. And without George Hurst, I don't think that Sindra Balor-Agelli or Martellino Nunez or Jane Filagene or Jack Clark have had the seasons that they've had. And Ipswich probably wouldn't be in the position that they are without someone like that.

41:59Mark Heath:Also, I can't see him going out and signing a starting striker in this window. I can't see that happening. George Hurst, for me, is going to carry on being the starting striker. Yes, he should score more, but his value to the team is more than that. And I'm sure Kieran McKenna would tell you that exact same thing. So we'll see. time will tell clearly not a lot happening on the old transfer front at the moment but i feel still very sanguine very sanguine about that if i'm honest as i've previously said i think if they do nothing i'll still be feeling pretty confident i know that the you know fans want signings clearly but i still i still feel like they're in a really good spot things are starting to come together six games on beat and now um yeah i'm i'm feeling pretty good about things the priority for me has to be getting some covering for Azzel, to be perfectly honest.

42:46If you said Ipswich can strengthen in one position this window, I wouldn't add a striker because the team that's getting put in week in, week out is delivering. They've won six on the bounce at home. They've won four on the bounce in all competitions, three on the bounce in the league. They're in really good form. I would like another striker to come in, but if you offered me anything, I'd make it so that when Azzel Matasiwa gets booked, that someone can step in and cover that position really well. Yeah, that would be the number one priority for me.

43:19Mark Heath:Perfect segue then when you talk about Azor Matasiya getting booked because it feels like there's a good opportunity for that tomorrow night, my friend, as a certain Mr Sam Morsey comes back to town. This feels like a great game in terms of clearly the narrative. So we might as well get that out of the way first. Sam Morsey spoke about it last week, said he didn't ever think he'd come back to Portman Road. He never got the send-off, clearly, because of the way he left. It kind of came out of the blue. He never got to say goodbye properly, and he'll get that opportunity tomorrow. And I'm hoping slash expecting that he's going to get an incredible reception when he walks out at Portman Road with Bristol City tomorrow.

44:00Mark Heath:And you'd imagine he's going to start. He started the last two. He's, from what reports, he's been doing well since he's gone there. Yeah, I keep writing when I do all these pieces, former Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsian. To be honest, I don't think it does it credit, does it? Because you're talking about someone that's made 165 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich that led the team to back-to-back promotions that kind of, along with obviously Kieran McKenna and helped by the whole squad, kind of dragged the club by the scruff of its neck from a very dark place. let's be honest, from where they were in League One nothingness into the Premier League, a man that commanded respect from all of his teammates that was seen as kind of your traditional captain in so many regards.

44:53And the fact that people didn't really get to say goodbye to him because he left before that first pre-season game even was pretty difficult to take and pretty emotional. um so it'll be really good to to see him back i've seen some comments as well saying oh you know we let him go for free as a kind of a mark of respect to go to kuwait and now six months later he's back in the championship and i feel a little bit wrong by that i can understand that but ultimately i think that wherever he was going to go he deserved the respect to be allowed to do so as well given what the picture looks like at portman road and i'm very confident he'll get a hell of a reception tomorrow.

45:35Fascinated to see how he does. It'll be the first time watching him play since the West Ham game, the final day of the Premier League season. The reviews have been pretty good, I'd say, so far, that I've seen from Bristol City, especially in that, what was the one there before, the Watford game, where apparently he was really, really good in that one. A few criticisms come in from his performance against Oxford at the weekend, so that'll be interesting as well. But yeah, let's wait and see. I would be very surprised if he doesn't start, would expect him in the line-up to walk out at Portman Road tomorrow night.

46:08Mark Heath:And we know, because of the kind of character he is, he's going to be super fired up to prove himself as well, because we've got, in Azorma Tassi, he's got a guy who's wearing his number, who's playing his role, is kind of a younger version of him. And you know Morsi being the kind of self-motivated, I took that personally, sort of Michael Jordan-esque style mentality. I reckon he's going to come out with a real point to prove in his head tomorrow night Yeah, every chance I think that there's almost that element especially with the way that his journey in Kuwait ended that he's probably been sat watching Ipswich watching Azor Matasiwa, wondering what things would have been like, I'm not saying he has any regrets or anything but wondering what would have happened if I'd stuck around and I'd played and competed with Azor and done all of this.

47:02Ultimately, it wasn't to be, and he's gone down a different path, one that I'm sure that he'll back himself to be successful with. But I'm sure there will be that element of a point to prove to come back and not just kind of bask and enjoy the ovation that he will undoubtedly get, but also, yeah, to prove a bit of a point to everyone there. I'm still the king of Portman Road, and I'm sure that Azor Matasi will be ready as well and readied by those around him to be up for this.

47:33Mark Heath:Good chance both get booked, I reckon. Okay, then. So in terms of Ipswich Town in this game, and I should just say on the Morsi thing, there's a story going out at midday today, Stu's talks McKenna about Sam and why they didn't try and re-sign him and also how he feels in terms of any frustrations about him now being back at a Championship rival. That's all covered in the story that goes out at 12. Essentially, answers to that are he wanted to play every game. That's why they didn't really re-sign him. It wasn't really a kind of conversation that ever got off the ground. And no, no frustrations in terms of how it's ended up.

48:08Mark Heath:McKenna, I think, says that's life. You never know how things are going to work out. And he's still got a great relationship with Sam, but hopes that, obviously, it doesn't go well for him tomorrow night. Ipswich Town, then, coming off the back of another win. Back at home, AJ. Usual conversation around who plays. I know, Jack Taylor, you said that you'd like to see him more often than not in midfield. Was there any element of surprise that he started against Blackburn and on the rotation thing, then you'd expect Jens to come in maybe against Bristol City? Is that what you expect to happen? I do want to see more of this partnership between Jack Taylor and Azul Matisse because I do think it probably is, from the start, the best one that Ipswich can field in the Championship where a lot of the times against a Blackburn team, you need someone that's going to do the battling, the hard yard, the resilience in the early stages.

49:05And then when a team like Blackburn tire, you have Jens come on and all of a sudden the space opens up and then we all film him in slow motion doing his little spins and tricks and passes and carving teams open. Do I think there'll be a rotation here? Yes. I toyed with this a little bit when writing my predicted team out. I do have Jens in it. I'm also thinking that I would like Jack Taylor to start at Sheffield United because I think that is a game that he will be more suited for, where I think Town will come under a bit more pressure away at one of the form teams in the division. Shall I run through what I'd roughly do then, team-wise?

49:46So I'll keep with Christian Walton in goal. The back line, there is a bit of a debate in my head, which is maybe controversial given the way that this team has performed and this defensive line has performed over recent weeks, conceding very few goals. And they've obviously kept a clean sheet against Blackburn. Furlong O'Shea and Davis are nailed on. They're not going to be changed for this one. Kipre or Greaves is the one that sits in my head a little bit. We're not going back to sipping them out, are we? Swapping and changing and stuff. I don't know. I don't know. I was really impressed by Jacob Greaves against Blackpool.

50:22Obviously, it's legal in opposition, but I thought he was excellent in that game. And I just, I want to find a way to get him more opportunities and more minutes. And I'm sure he's really disappointed. I'm sure Kieran McKenna is quite frustrated that he's, well, maybe not frustrated, but he's got this selection headache, doesn't he? He's got three excellent centre-backs there who are all performing really well at the moment. And I want to find a way to get Greaves more minutes. I have stuck with Cedric Kiprae, but I would not be surprised at all if Jacob Greaves came back in. Matasira and Kyusta, as I mentioned, for those reasons, I think we'll get a bit more of an open game, full stop at Portman Road.

50:56I think Bristol City will come and play. So I think that Cajusta will hopefully be able to exploit some of those gaps. Then an attack gets a little bit trickier. If possible, I want to stick with Marcelino Nunez. I know that his minutes will need to be managed. I don't want him going the full 90, for example, but if he can do 65, 70 minutes and then tap out for some smodics, that's great. With Philogene suspected to be out, Jack Clark on the left, More than happy with that one. On the right. This is interesting, isn't it? I'm going to say it. Yeah. Wes Burns' first league start on the right. That's what I have written down.

51:32I think Burns' former club as well, Bristol City. Interesting twist. Yeah, I think this could be a good game for him, especially in a wing-back or against a wing-back system rather. I think that Tanner, who's on this side, no, it won't be Tanner, it'll be Neto Borgias on this side, will like to get quite high up. There might be some gaps to exploit. Against a back three, sometimes when you have a player like Sindra who comes inside, it can get a little bit congested in the middle. And I think having someone that will run and stretch the pitch, especially with Jack Clark on the other side, who naturally likes to drift in at times as well, against commentary, almost played as a number 10.

52:10I think having Wes, who can be that direct runner down the other side, could really work quite well tactically. again if we can get 65 minutes out Wes Burns in the championship game really really good and then have Cinder come on and then George Hust with Azan off the bench not really much explaining from that one so the team that I'd have would have three changes from the win against Blackburn so that would be Jens coming in Wes Burns coming in and Jack Clark coming in we should mention of

52:37Mark Heath:course at the weekend McIntyre and Akpom both out of the squad with injuries so probably seems are likely they'll be available tomorrow as well. I think both are expected... Oh, I'm now going to get this wrong. Is it... I think it's... Yeah, both are expected, I think, to miss a couple of games. I think Chico has been mentioned specifically as we'll miss the next couple. I wouldn't be rushing any of them back, to be perfectly honest, just because the squad's in such a good place. Don't need to. Just keep things going. Exactly, yeah. Yeah. Because we've got a bit of time before we get to the golden hour, and you've mentioned the Greaves-Keepra thing, there was something i wanted to talk to you about in the last pod i agree with you there i would i don't want to see them start swapping and changing greaves and keeper every game sit with keeper there's no reason to drop him however i will say that your idea or thesis of switching to a back three back five when they get to the premier league with greaves on the left i've had more feedback about that than than pretty much anything that you said on the podcast okay quite some time people really like this idea um and it seems to get me on the coaching stuff well Oh, yeah, but Greaves the left back, keeper in the middle, and then O'Shea at the right.

53:44And then you've obviously got the wing backs with Leaf. I wanted to dig further into this, though, because just to ask you, with what they've got available at the moment, how would that side look? Because obviously then you're going to make compromises in terms of the forward players. So if Hipswich Town were playing in the Premier League now with that system, how would you work it? Who would start? Ooh, interesting. Okay, so no new signings are saying hypothetical. Just saying what they've got now, just out of interest, yeah. Okay, so obviously I've kind of spoken about the back line. It is what it is.

54:15So Wartland goal. Leif Davis is the left wing back. You have Greaves on the left, Kipro through the middle, O'Shea on the right. And it would have to be Furlong on the right wing back, but I'm not sure how that would transition into the Premier League as a full-time thing. I think you'd want a more attacking option there. Then the two in midfield, controversial. I would be going Anselm Matosiwa and Marcelino Nunez. I don't think you then need to have as much of a defensive pivot because you'd have the three centre-backs behind. So Matasiva can still do the dirty work while Nunez would have that licence to still drift and create.

54:55Then on the left, I mean, toss a coin, really, if you're sticking with how it is at the moment, Jack Clark, but Jadon Filagene, Jack Clark. There is a compromise there in the way that that role on the left would then have to be changed again a little bit where because Davis would be playing as a wingback, he would very much be bombing up the flank style. So you need your left winger to come in a little bit more narrow. Does that suit Jaden Filagene as much? No. Could it suit Jack Clark? I think so. Who would it suit the best? Probably Sam Smoddix, actually. But in this case, I would be picking Jack Clark would be the one I'd have on the left.

55:34Syndra, I think, would suit that role really well on the right. And then... Must he? No. then George Hurst up top. So that's how I would piece it together. There would need to be little tactical tweaks in that. You would need signings still, of course. If they're going to take that into the Premier League, you'd need a more attacking right wing back. You would need extra depth and quality in certain areas. But as a system, I think it suits what Ipswich have at the moment. And yeah, that's what I'd carry into the top flight. And it's something that's worked for a lot of teams who've been promoted.

56:03As I keep saying about Leeds, they were playing a 4-1, 4-1. they were getting played off the park every week daniel farke made the change and they've lost like twice since then so um yeah that's how i'd do it i really like it when you first said it i was like

56:16Mark Heath:oh yeah i can see that i really really like it anyway um that's that's a conversation perhaps for the summer and going forward but i like it um predictions and aj um none of us were right the weekend in terms of score i was i was delighted when it was uh when sammy made it because there were a couple of teamers in there, weren't there? Yeah, there were. I was very pleased because I could see the gap getting wider. But in the end, I think we all just got a single point for predicting the win. None of us got, obviously, the first goal scorer. What do you reckon is going to happen tomorrow night then?

56:50So when I did my block of predictions before the weekend, I had this as a 1-1 draw because I saw a very, very tricky game and a team that Ipswich in general have not had an easy time against, even though they've won a fair few games against them. And I don't see them having an easy time tomorrow, but I am going to change it to a win off the back of Bristol City going to Oxford and looking pretty naff, to be honest. Only one shot on target. That came from about 30 yards out. And off the back of the fact that Ipswich at home are doing really well. As I said, six wins on the bounce in all competitions at Portman Road, playing well, confidence is building.

57:27So I will back them to win it. I think it'll be quite narrow. I'm going to go with the 2-1. I think that they have... Sorry, that was your prediction, wasn't it? Yeah. I feel like with some of the attacking threat that Bristol City have, I could easily see them bang and winning through. Mimetti or Scott Twine, both of them have scored at Portman Road before. Emil Rees is a good striker. The system is well-oiled and something that Ipswich have struggled with in the past. But I do think that the quality will be there to put them to the sword just about. So 2-1 win. First goal scorer, Jack Clark.

58:05Mark Heath:Jack Clark. 2-1 Jack Clark. I was going to say 2-1, but now I won't. I'll say knock them down, grind them out, 1-0 win for town. Who's going to score? I might say Hurst, actually. It would be nice to see a goal for George Hurst. So we're both saying victories, narrow victories. 2-1 AJ. with Jack Clark, I'm saying one nil George Hurst. We'll, we'll get the thoughts of Ross who is working today, but he's, he's got a workman round, which is why he can't join us. I haven't sacked him after his, after his mutiny. He's still part of the team yet. Yeah. And Stu, Stu having a well-earned day off, just building up for tomorrow night.

58:43So we'll, we'll share those ahead of tomorrow. I want to finish though, AJ today's pod with something special I found. Now, are you familiar with a show on Netflix called King of collectibles? No, no, well, probably wouldn't make this american um it's basically about a guy called ken goldin who has the biggest memorabilia business in the world essentially clearly focused around american sports memorabilia now i love and have loved for my whole life american sports um i love everything about them uh and as part of that as a youth i collected cards and the amount of money you can get for cards on this show mate is ridiculous cards changing hands for like six million dollars so having watched this show i was like oh i've got some i think i've got some old trading cards somewhere i'm gonna look if i've got any of any value turns i haven't most expensive one i've got in terms of value value is four dollars so i won't be retiring on that but in my my kind of pack of things i've collected since youth i found something which is going to be a particular interest to your old friend because it is oh yes i've got to get out of its protective folder

This was the, I think I've said before, because I lived near Cambridge when I was a kid. I lived in a place called Leadingworth. So me and my dad would go and watch Cambridge United quite regularly. This was the great Cambridge United team under John Beck that got to the FA Cup quarterfinal, lost at Highbury against Arsenal.

1:00:29This was, I think, the next game after that. And on the back, you can see, I don't know if you can see. Oh, wow. Signatures all over.
