In short

Ipswich Town vs Norwich City “East Anglian derby” at Carrow Road, previewing Derby Day after Easter/international break, with focus on narratives, press-conference messages, injuries, likely starting XI, and key matchups/danger men.

Guests (hosts/participants)

AJ and Rossi (Ipswich supporters; Rossi reports from Norwich fan outlet “the Pinken”/Pink’n). Ross is also present as a co-host, offering “lived experience” jokes about dead legs and injury fitness.

Key claims

  • Pressers showed extra edge: McKenna and Darragh O’Shea stressed the derby’s magnitude and Ipswich’s pressure to perform.
  • Norwich are “transformed” under Philippe Clément: changed mentality, better confidence, new/settled signings.
  • Ipswich must manage Marcelino Núñez’s return (booing expected) but expect his temperament to hold up.
  • Injury blows: Wes Burns out; Azor Matasiwa and Ivan Azon (calf/dead-leg) and Jaden Philogene (MCL recovery) assessed; Ashley Young back on grass.

Notable examples

  • Norwich threats: Ahmed (Canadian) with 4 goals/3 assists since January; Mattson’s improvement; centre-back Cordoba; striker Mohamed Toure (hat-trick vs Oxford; 4 goals/3 assists).
  • Ipswich X-factors/heroes suggested: Darnell Furlong (wind-up), Christian Walton (clean-sheet/penalty potential), Casey McAteer (hero), Anis Mometi (impact off bench).

0:38hello friends and welcome to your friday kings of anglia ipswich town podcast proudly sponsored by molecular uk and friends of course this is not just any kings of anglia podcast this is the countdown to derby day take two ipswich town have the chance to make even more history across the border at Carrow Road this weekend and I for one I'm extremely excited about it it's kind of crept up on me because of Easter and and I'm not playing and the all kind of stuff that happened around Easter and then obviously they played on Monday but now having watched the press conferences yesterday I am fully here for it as the kids say and speaking of kids I've got two of them with me today AJ and Rossi Rossi you're freshly shorn um did you go short as normal I must say you still pursuing the length, so to speak?

1:25Ross Halls:Yeah, my barber likes it. And you sort of accept that the barber's in control. So shout out to Manu's my barber. She knows what she's doing and I trust her. So yeah, longer locks at the top, but my beard is nicely trimmed, ready for Derby Day. But I will admit, I don't know, I'm not feeling it just yet. What? Maybe after this podcast, maybe after the podcast, or maybe up for it. It's normally when I get into the city centre of Norwich, It's like, here we go, here we go. You see all the yellow and green, disgusting shirts. You go, yeah, we've got to beat these lot. But I don't know, maybe because, as you mentioned, it's been Easter and there's an international break.

2:02Ross Halls:You know, it's not been a long, long build-up. We had the Birmingham game and it's like, oh, the Derby's here. But looking forward to talking about it. Yeah, it's because we're always focused on the next game, isn't it? Just like the players, you know, it's just about the next game, boys. That's all we think about. AJ, how are you? You at the press is just obviously going to start by talking about those. But how are you? how's your excitement anticipation there was ahead of this one i think i'm in the same boat as you where the start of the week especially because it's been easter weekend town played on a monday the tuesday is kind of a it's always a reflection of the the game for us then after that that we start to look ahead i was off on wednesday so then i come back into the presses so it was really the presses where you start to think oh hang on yeah and um i think the one bit i don't know if we've actually got it clipped up and i annoyingly interrupted him at the end because i thought he'd done speaking but i asked uh dar o'shea for his message to the fans yesterday and he gave quite a nice rousing message and i was like oh yeah i'm feeling this so um i don't know if o'shea's message to fans got anyone else going but did for me absolutely um and yeah now now we're definitely getting there when i drive around to pick ross up first thing tomorrow morning of course i like to get around really early, so I'll be at his for about half six.

3:15Yeah. Good luck, Ross. That's when we'll feel it, 100%. I'm absolutely buzzing for it. I think the presses yesterday really got me going because O'Shea spoke really well about it. He speaks really well, doesn't he? Dara O'Shea. And he is honest. Sometimes that gets him into trouble, but I felt he spoke really well yesterday. And obviously, Kieran McKenna, again, talking about the game. Good to see, good to feel. And also, there was quotes out there earlier this week from the Norwich end with Philippe Clomont, in which he said, I have respect for Ipswich, but then he went on to say they have spent a lot of money to get promotion, which is kind of a backhanded compliment.

3:48And obviously that was seized upon after we reported those. So, yeah, I'm bang up for it. It feels like a big game. It feels like the biggest derby game for a while. They're all big, but there's a lot riding on this one, isn't there, in terms of the narratives going into the game, where Ipswich are, where Norwich are, resurgent Norwich, Ipswich need to win, promotion in their own hands, all that kind of stuff. It's going to be tremendous. Shall we start then with the press conferences, friends? AJ was there yesterday with the Associated Media. A bit more media there than usual yesterday. I wonder why that was.

4:15Let's hear, first of all, from Kieran McKenna about the game, and then we can kind of start reflecting on what we heard yesterday, AJ.

4:22Kieran McKenna:Yeah, I think it's one to really look forward to, I think. Yeah, the last one was my favourite, I think I'd say that. I've had two that I enjoyed, even the first one at Portman Road, I think was a really good occasion, good game. Didn't enjoy the one at Carroll Road, so hopefully they'll enjoy this one more. They're a great atmosphere.

4:46Kieran McKenna:Two fan bases are really passionate about their club. We get fantastic support at Portman Road and when we go there. We're delighted to have broke the record that stood for too long with a game earlier in the season, but now we know we've got another fantastic opportunity. It's going to be tough, but a fantastic opportunity to go and try and win at their stadium, which would be brilliant for the club. So we were all, of course, really, really motivated to try and do that on Saturday. All right then, AJ. So clearly press conferences, McKenna especially, is very well schooled in the language of football, shall we say.

5:27He didn't actually say yesterday, this is just the next game, as it were. It's only three points, that sort of stuff. But how did you feel about the pressers yesterday? Did you feel like there was an extra bit of kind of edge around it?

5:39Ross Halls:To kind of stress that this was a group that looked fragile. Ross, you're not on mute.

5:47My bad. I was just listening to something. Hold on, Ross. Remind me what the question was, please, Mark. How did I feel about the pressers, wasn't it? How were the pressers in relation to normal pressers? I mean, because one assumes there would be an extra kind of edge in the air or a bit of extra crackle of excitement. Yeah, I think so. I mean, most pressers, especially when you're seeing Kieran McKenna and a player week in, week out, they last about maybe 10 minutes each. These two were 25 minutes each. Yeah. I know you were delighted. I loved it, yeah. I was having Dar Eshe yesterday. So that's already your first kind of indication.

6:26I think that they get kind of split into a couple of bits, these press conferences. well this press conference in particular where one half is here's the derby and the other half is here's the running because not only is it about this game it's also about the fact that this is the first time that we're talking to kieran mckenna to daro shea since ipswich have capitalized on the teams that slipped up on easter monday as well which has put them into a fantastic position so not only then do you feel everything about the derby and we've heard kieran mckenna talk about these before. He knows the magnitude of them.

7:00He's become the first manager to win one in 16 years. Daro Shea has been involved in that team. McKenna has obviously tasted the other side of the spectrum as well. But then you've got the added element as well, that from an Ipswich perspective, this means so much. And there's no kind of shying away from that. And there were quite a few interesting points within this. McKenna got asked about how he said, kind of going into the last derby all the pressures on norwich to defend their 16 year unbeaten streak and he was it was put to him is the pressure on norwich again and he said well you know you can make arguments either way but um from our perspective we know that there is pressure on us and and that's what we enjoy like you have to enjoy these occasions as well even though they're nerve-wracking even though there's so much on the line this is why these guys play football and you can kind of get that from talking to Kieran.

7:53You get it from talking to Dario Shea, who was bang up for it. Lots of Nunez chat as well, which was good fun. He's obviously a big talking point in this one and one that I know that we'll come on to. The biggest thing is getting the balance right. And I hope that everyone is well aware of that because I have that fear from the last Derby game at Carrow Road where they went into that game and kind of played like they'd been shot with horse tranquilizers and were very sluggish and very tired and far too kind of cool, calm, collected, didn't buy into the Derby atmosphere. And I hope that they've learned some lessons from that going into this one.

8:29Right then, let's hear a bit more from Kieran McKenna. Then I want to come to you, Rossi, because I want to get the kind of take from the Norwich end. You've been speaking to our friends down the road at the Pinken. So let's hear a bit more from Kieran and then let's assess Norwich as well.

8:41Kieran McKenna:No, I think you do need to make the players aware of it. Look, when you're preparing for every game, you try and give context to it and make sure the players know what the crowds, especially for the away games, what the crowd might be like, what the stadium's like, what the pitch is like, what the context for the other team is. And yeah, we've made the players really aware and certainly we felt that, you know, maybe some similarities two years ago when we went there in a season that we were really pushing for automatic promotion. But we know that they're going to be incredibly motivated to try and stop us in terms of getting the points on Saturday.

9:13Kieran McKenna:So, yeah, it was a really fierce atmosphere when we played there last time. and we've made the players aware that it's going to be that and more. But these things are something to really enjoy in your career, whether it's as a player or a coach or a manager or even supporters. You want these rivalries, you want these big games, you want the passionate crowds, and sometimes going away from home and standing up to that. If you're a way of support behind you, if you can get the result on those days, they're, to be honest, I think the best ones. So, you know, we got an opportunity to do that on Saturday, and that's what we're really focused towards.

9:49Yes, bring it on. Rossi, you've been speaking to our friends down the road at the Pinkham. We're going to hear from Diario Show about Norwich as well in a minute. But one of the narratives going to this game clearly is that this is not the same Norwich that they faced back in Suffolk in October. They've been resurgent under Philippe Clermont. So what did you glean? I mean, obviously, if you want to go and watch the full Insight video, that's available now for subscribers on our website. but what did you glean about the mood at the Norwich end? Because I know the quote you put in the headline for that was, the pressure is on you.

10:21So do you think that's very much the feeling?

10:24Ross Halls:Yeah, very much so. Obviously Norwich got better confidence than they did back in October because Liam Manning's side back then were not doing well, were they? The players not playing well. And that was probably the first time where us town fans probably went into that game thing and we're actually going to win a derby. I think the last championship season, we did think we had an opportunity to do it. But unfortunately, they shat the bed, didn't they, Tam? They didn't turn up in the first game, but the away game, they didn't. But that was the first game where Tam were strong favourites. And of course, we finally went on to win.

10:58Ross Halls:But this team, in terms of Norwich, are very different. Their new manager has given them a lot of new confidence. Mentality's changed a lot as well, apparently. They don't have many days off, I think, before under the previous management under Liam Manning, they used to have like two days off in a week or something like that. They've completely changed that. And like players who were signed in the summer are now settled and playing better, like Matteson. No, Matteson? Hella Matteson? Yeah. Yeah. He was one, of course, who got turned for the Jalen Philogene screamer. But he has been a whole different player now.

11:33Ross Halls:He's a key player in this team, Adam Stead from the Pinken. So he's definitely one to look out for. and also Ahmed, the Canadian, who has scored goals for fun since signing in January. So they've got a few new signings, but this will be a whole different team and Carroll Road will be a tough place to go, as it always is, as the cliche goes. But I think even Kieran McKenna, fair play to him. Once again, he always is honest. He said he didn't think the Norwich game previously, they didn't think Norwich were a bad team back then. I think they were just obviously a team just lower confidence and stuff like that.

12:10Ross Halls:So, yeah, it's going to be a tougher game than October. But overall, Town have got a better team in terms of, you know, the starting XI. So, yeah, it's going to be a tough one. But bring it on. Yes, bring it on. Right, let's hear from Dara O'Shea what he thinks about Norwich. And then I want to get into who we think might play and potentially some of the stars, the X-Factors, the Danger Men, all that kind of stuff. So here's Dara talking about, Norwich? Really looking forward to it. It's a game that means a lot to the football club, to the people of Ipswich and it means a lot to us as a group of players as well.

12:45Obviously the history speaks for itself with this game and going away to Carrow Road, it's going to be hostile, it's going to be tough but it's a game that we're really looking forward to. Obviously it's been a long time since we've done the double of them so it's obviously in the back of our minds as well but look for us as a team and as a group, we're going there trying to get the win and we know it's going to be a fight, it's going to be a tough game, it's not going to be plain sailing and we've got to prepare ourselves as best as possible and go to that game of confidence.

13:17Ross Halls:What are you expecting from Norwich this time around? On paper they look transformed from last time. Yeah they're a really good side, I think since the managers come in they've been one of the best sides in the league and they've picked up a lot of points as well. They're a dangerous side, they're a good footballing side, so we've got a lot of respect for them and understand where their qualities are. We've got to try and nullify them. I think for us as a team and as a group, it's always been trying to focus on ourselves and trying to play the way we can play and maximise that. I think when we do that, we've got a great chance of winning.

13:50With games like this, it doesn't always work like that. There's added feelings, added emotions, and we've got to try to come out on the better side of that and understand that it's a massive game for them too. It doesn't matter where you are in the league or what you're pushing for. This game always has something else and it's important to be ready for that. This is making me buzzing, boys, just listening to this back again. Right, the obvious question then, AJ, which I want to spend probably a bit of time talking about is who plays. Now, before we get to that, we got some injury news yesterday.

14:21Now, we were all expecting, hoping to hear about Azul Matasiwa. Obviously, we know that Wes Burns missed the last game and there was question marks around Ivan Lazon. So do you want to bring us up to speed with those before we start batting around who might play and who might be the star? Yeah, let's see how much I can remember this one. Wes Burns is out. That is the first thing to mention. He will not be involved in this East Anglian derby, which is a big blow, given that he's been Ipswich's strongest right-wing option since returning from that ACL injury. Excellent since then, but this was the issue that he picked up.

14:56it was a calf issue wasn't it that he picked up in the Sheffield Wednesday game where he came on and then came off again there were hopes and he was due to start against Birmingham but ultimately kind of re-aggravated the issue a little bit, missed that game and we'll miss this one and then the others are kind of to be assessed essentially the club will know more about them today and we'll have to wait until teams are dropped tomorrow morning with even Azon who's also got a calf injury that was picked up during the international break and then um who's the other one as or with the dead leg as well um that got picked up during the birmingham game in the first half played through it and then was brought off after that one um ross's message on dead legs gives me hope still that he'll be involved he's a tough old a tough old guy isn't he um as or matosiwa but uh as on would love to nc as well both of them yeah to be assessed um not too much other than that um ashley young's back on grass so that's fun um he mentioned something about philagine as well didn't he yeah jayden philagine is is the other one because obviously we haven't really seen that much of him he's not um he's not started the game since returning from his mcl injury so there are a few question marks over him and essentially i don't think he's quite at full pace he came on against milwall took a whack in that game um which really limited what he was able to do, got a bit of treatment in the international break going into the Birmingham game and it's just a case of managing him because MCL injuries are so delicate I think is probably the right word to use he's obviously suffered one before, had one at the back end of last season which kept him out for quite a long time, this one's kept him out for longer than expected I think it's fair to say so it's just been a case of managing him and I'd be surprised if he was in the starting line-up tomorrow lunchtime right Ross you're a veteran of dead legs um with that that lived experience as we have to say these days you can't just have experience it has to be lived experience experience by the way experience by its very definition is lived oh don't don't get me started um Rossi is Azor Matasiwa going to start

17:09Ross Halls:I think so like I've I am I suffered a dead leg last night at five a side and um I'm not an athlete like Azor Matazewa. So he's got better quads than me and just better legs than me. Although I do get praise from my other half. So I like your legs. So if you didn't have nice legs, I don't know if I could be with you. So I'll take that. Obviously, Hutchie was famously known for his legs, wasn't he? His calves. His calves, yes. But yeah, I'm sure once again, Azor Matazewa's got great rehab. He's got the great physios around him. I just basically just got in had some Jaffa cakes, had a cup of tea chilled on the sofa and then went to bed I'm sure since Monday he's had a lot of rehab and bits and bobs so I think he's going to be fine famous last words obviously people will scream at me tomorrow morning when their team dropped, by hell Ross you said he was going to be fine, he should be okay but you never know Ross is that the default kind of recovery process.

18:13Is that what Azor's done? Jaffa Cakes, quick lie down, cup of tea in bed. Yeah,

18:18Ross Halls:that's the go-to for me. So we shall see. I hope he's done the same. Yeah. Well, you know, Jaffa Cakes are both athletes, aren't they? We know that. Tea, hydration, important. Rest as well. So basically the same thing, I'm sure. Players like their snacks, don't they? That's the thing. I know Erling Haaland has an obsession with Percy Piggs. So what if... We might have to ask Azor Matasiwa. I mean, I obviously debuted the Dutch Snacks on the last podcast. Maybe we'll have to see if he's been able to buy into some Jaffa Cakes yet. And maybe that is his secret to staying fit throughout so much of this season and being the Ironman for Ipswich Town.

18:55We had Watsits, of course, Rossi, didn't we? And Miles Kenlock back in the day.

18:59Ross Halls:We did. I just want to quickly double check because my life was completed when Jaffa Cakes, the official Twitter page, or their Jaffa Cakes, they followed me on X. yeah that was uh and i did meant i think i dm'd them to ask if they would sponsor the podcast they just ignored me but they still follow me which is it's nice although they haven't tweeted since 2023 so that's sad but i call biscuit

19:26cake well yeah i mean the clue's in the name it's in the name but it's like yeah it's a debate about

19:32Ross Halls:it isn't it but it's it's a cake because you've got different layers i think biscuit is just one layer. This has to be tackled in the next. There's also no biscuit. There's also no biscuit part of it. It's sponge. Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know. I know, but it feels wrong. It feels wrong to call it. Jaffa cakes. I know. I know. We'll have to call them Jaffa biscuits. Anyway, moving on. I don't know how we got for this. We were talking about the East Anglin Derby a few minutes ago. Ross, I'm going to ask you first because I know you hate talking about who's going to start and AJ will obviously clearly have a much longer opinion.

20:13But around the potential conversations in the starting line-up, Cedric Kipre or Jacob Greaves? We know Kipre got the goal in the first game. Greaves kept his starting spot though. What would you be doing in this one?

20:28Ross Halls:Oh, it's so tricky. Because, yeah, Greaves has done pretty well since Kipre's been suspended. but do you start Kipre in this one because you want someone to really battle hard Jada Greaves does do that but do you want someone who's had minutes because Kipre came off the bench against Birmingham didn't he in the final moments I just feel like it's hard on Jada Greaves, Leif Davis is obviously back which is great I'm going to go yeah I'm going to go to Kipre bring him back in because I want someone who's going to like, oh, blue their defenders. So he's starting for me. How about you, AJ? We know obviously Leif Davis is going to come back.

21:14Clearly O'Shea and Furlong are setting stone as is Walton. What would you be doing in this spot then, Kipre or Jacob? First thing I would say, is Leif Davis as nailed as he put on there? He's not kicked a baller more than a month. I'd be very surprised. I would as well. I would as well, but I don't know. Just trying to throw something out there. I mean, Johnson's done well, let's be honest. He's done really well, hasn't he? But I'd be staggered if they don't start Leif Davis in this game. No, I would as well. I would be pretty surprised. But just thinking from also, do you bring in the match fitness perspective?

Read the full transcript

21:47He's probably played a handful of minutes against West Ham in that behind closed doors friendly. Other than that, he's really not had that opportunity for minutes. So I wouldn't be like totally flawed given Ben Johnson's form. But I do think I'd be pretty surprised if Leif Davis didn't start there, let's be honest. But I think there's a bit of a debate there still. Yeah, Greaves or Kipre is the big one for me. It's Jacob Greaves, to be honest. He's got the shirt. He's performed. And I think that's been a bit of a theme within Ipswich teams, I'd say. The big example for me, and I know it's different because it's a goalkeeper, but Alex Palmer had his injury.

22:27Christian Walton comes in. Christian Walton performs. And Christian Walton has played every single league game. Every single league minutes since then. And for me, Jacob Greaves has had that opportunity now. He's been able to deliver. I thought he was really good against Birmingham as well. And he starts here for me. There is still that opportunity to bring Cedric Kipro back in with the fact there's so many Saturday, Tuesday games, Portsmouth coming up very soon and you've got to keep people fresh going into that Borough game and then going to Charlton. It's hellish, isn't it, with this run? But yeah, I'd keep Jacob Greaves in for this one personally.

23:00Right, I'll get the casting vote then. And I'm going to go, I'm on record as saying Cedric Kipre is my favourite Shirtown player. That remains the case. But I am also a big fan of going with the hot hand. If you're playing well, you should stay in the team. So I'm sticking with Jacob Greaves. Yes, Ross? One-nil, AJ.

23:16Ross Halls:I will actually make an extra little point here. I'm actually ignoring my actual pick here. Kipre, to be fair, before he got to Spendy, wasn't in great form. So I'm now like, oh. But I don't know. I don't know. I think Kipre will be just well up for it. I don't think Grease will be, I'm sure, as well. But, yeah, Kipre wasn't in great form before that suspension, but he felt like, you know, he wants to sort of bounce back. So this one could be it. Just a side note as well on Leif Davis. The club put out a little video this morning, a link to the masters of the players, chipping onto like a Velcro golf dartboard, if you like.

23:54I noticed that Leif Davis, we know he's a big fan of flight simulators. He's actually got a plane tattoo. on his arm, just a plane. I'm assuming that's linked to his love of flight simulators. Right then, midfield. We know as all might as well, if he's fit, and Ross is guaranteed that he is fit, is going to start. Who's going to play alongside him, however, AJ? Because we've had Dan Neal, we've had Jack Taylor, and we've had Jens Kjuster, but Jens seems very much out of the picture, and McKenna actually spoke about him yesterday, didn't he? Some interesting quotes about Jens, that's probably worth reflecting on.

24:25But who would you be starting in this one? yeah I don't think it would be Jenski used to the comments kind of suggested it's been a very difficult season for him and he feels that and getting used to the championship's been difficult I think some of the wording of that you kind of have to read between the lines but doesn't speak of a long-term future at Ipswich although it's understood that there's the obligation to buy if promotion's good we'll have to end and see what all the technicalities are within that but the fact that Kieran McKenna was saying he could play for any of the top clubs in Europe, including Ipswich.

25:00Yeah, made me wonder what the future holds in the short term for Jens Kjusta. This is really difficult because for me, take Kjusta out, there's still three very viable options of who plays alongside Matasiwa. I think Dan Neal's the most obvious one. They're trying to build that partnership. He's getting up to speed quite nicely. He played 90 minutes on Monday, which was good. Would that limit him then playing 90 here? It has been almost a week, although Kieran McKenna might disagree with that. So in that sense, maybe that would probably be the one I'd lean towards if you can keep both of those fit and able to play.

25:37Jack Taylor's obviously got the Derby experience, which is a positive. He's played in, he would have played in three now, I'd imagine winning from the last championship season as well. And then the curveball would be, could you put Marcelino Nunez there, which would be a way of opening up the number 10 role maybe for an Anis Mometi or something like that. It feels a little bit too open for me. Matasiwa and Neil is the way I would play this one because they've tried to build that partnership but this is the area where there's a lot of options and a lot of kind of piecing and puzzling things together with who's going to be fit, who's going to be tired, what's the best balance.

26:14It's not an easy one. Yeah, I'm going Matasiwa and Neil. I'm sticking my... I'm nailing my colours to the mast right now. I might see with Neil for me. Nunes clearly has to play. I'd start him, but I'd start him in the 10. We'll come on to Nunes in a minute. How about you, Rossi?

26:28Ross Halls:Yeah, I think keep that partnership going because that's been working pretty well. Jack Taylor, though, I don't know. He could have a little bit of... Excuse me, you know. I've had more say in some games as well this season. And, you know, he loves his crunch and tackles. He'll be well up for the derby. but to sort of settle that midfield, I think Azor Mastu and Daniel will be perfect to start those attacks. Yeah, you do wonder because Neil obviously played a lot of minutes in there on Monday and whether or not he'll be ready to go again or whether or not I wouldn't be massively despised to be Jack Taylor, to start, to be honest.

27:05Right then, the front four, which is always the most exciting and sexy conversation. Let's start with Senor Nunes, shall we? Big hashtag narrative around this, clearly, going back to Norwich for the first time since he left them. I'm sure Norwich fans will welcome him with open arms and hugs and kisses. Methinks not. Shall we hear first of all from Kieran McKenna and Dara O'Shea about Nunes and then we can talk about this front four.

27:28Ross Halls:Does his involvement this weekend have to be managed? Do you have to have extra conversations with him about the atmosphere he can expect as an individual? He won't be the most popular player in the stadium.

27:38Kieran McKenna:No, I don't think so because it's so obvious to say, of course, when you make a move like that. it's not going to be popular with the club that you're leaving behind. But as I said at the time, I can only respect him as a person. He's come from Chile to try and make the best of his career over in England. And that means trying to get to the Premier League. And he had a couple of good seasons for Norwich. And then he made a really big step this year to a club that he felt had a better chance of achieving that goal. And it was a step he wanted to make in his career. and he's a confident but really humble guy and he wanted to make that step and take it on and I think I give him huge credit for that and I say he's made a really good fist of it so far.

28:27So he's, of course, us as a team, as a club,

28:32Kieran McKenna:him as a player, we know that he's not going to get a very warm welcome on Saturday because that's how football works, but in terms of temperament, there's not many better than Marcelino so I've no worries about him in that regard. How has Marcelino been this week? Obviously the last derby there was a lot of noise around him, the first game against Norwich after what was a very controversial transfer. This is going to be a very different situation for him going back there. How has he been? He's been fine. Marcelino is just Marcelino. He doesn't change. That boy, just fair play to him. He just cracks on.

29:01He's himself. Of course, he's going to have a bit of hatred towards him and and what not and he understands that himself like he's not stupid to think that he wouldn't and you know us as a group understand that you know a lot of the a lot of the stuff is going to be towards him and and that's that that's football this is football do you know what I mean um it's what makes the game great as well is having these the passion and the rivalries and obviously he's stepped over to the other side of the line and um he's come to us so he I think he knows himself it's going to be a big game he's going to get lots of lots of stuff and I'm sure I mean as his personality goes I don't think many things affect him in that way so I'm sure he'll be totally fine Right then I am I'll go first I'm starting Nunez in the 10 we heard a little insight there and that backs up everything I've heard about him I think he's going to absolutely love this atmosphere I think he'll relish being the pantomime villain I wouldn't be surprised if he does something special in this game then I'm going Clark on the left and I'm going Casey McAteer on the right.

30:07You know, Wes Burns can't play and Casey obviously has got a bit of a hot hand. AJ, what are you doing? The same, to be honest. Yeah, it's difficult because I think Anis Mometi is brilliant. I thought when he came on against Birmingham, he changed that game in that period, even though Town suffered with Matasir off the pitch. having Mometti playing through the 10 gave Town a different kind of dimension to their play when they turned the game around to win it. But I think he's a great option to have off the bench, and you need to have those bench options as well. And if you want to keep that solid core, that base of Matsira and Neil, then you have to be selective about who you have in front.

30:48And then when you've got players like Villagene, like Sindra, like Anis, who can come on, that's where things get pretty exciting. yeah I agree with Nunez I think that he has to start simply as people will see from my preview in the prediction I wrote I do think he'll have a big part to play in this game

31:12yeah I think that's really the only way to go about it with the comments that were made about Jadon Villagin it's going to be Jack Clark on the left most likely could there be a debate of going with Anis on the left and having that combination that works quite well with him and Leif Davis because Mimetti comes in a bit narrower, possibly. But Jack Clark is a big game player. He scored in the last derby, and I'd want to have him starting also for his penalties should that be needed. And then on the right, it's pretty simple for me, to be perfectly honest. Wes Burns is out. Cinderella again is out of favour and out of form a little bit.

31:48He's obviously still got a big part to play. He's got a hugely bright future. But Casey McAteer, I think, is finding his beat. There we go. Having done that, I think, as I said on Tuesday's pod, since the Derby game, the Derby County game, I should say, through until Monday where he got his first Ipswich goal, got better and better and better. And, yeah, he gets the opportunity here to play on the right for me. I think he's earned it. So that would be the three to play behind the striker for me. Yeah, I really like Mehmeti. but I think in this scenario, if you're going to have one of the two of them, Nunez or Mimetti coming off the bench, I'd rather it be Mimetti.

32:24I think just because he is energy, isn't he? He's kind of energy and he's got a bit of edge to him and a bit of swag. He's fired up. That's what I've noticed. I mean, you saw that with the Birmingham game. I think he was a bit annoyed to be on the bench against Birmingham because he came on and played like a man possessed. He was angry. The way he was playing, there's almost like a ferocity in the way he dribbles. I can't quite explain it, but he just plays like he hates everyone, basically. Yeah, he's got an edge. He's got a real edge about him. Yeah, he plays like a moody teenager. And it's great.

32:52I love it. And I think that is kind of what you need in a derby game. It might be the kind of thing that when you get to, and it always happens every game, kind of like a natural lull in the game. If you can add that spice onto the pitch, that is what can swing things into your favour. You won't be afraid to have a shot from range. I think he'd be the kind of player I'd want to run at tired legs. Yeah, but for me, I think that he'd definitely be one that I'd look more to having off the bench. and also when you're comparing that and Nunez, Nunez will start this one because it's Norwich as well and this means so much to him but also Ipswich start Nunez, Ipswich get a result.

33:30Seems to be the pattern and I don't know what the logic is behind that, what the maths, what the numbers is but that seems to be how these things work and for a game like this, I just can't see him being out of the firing line or being out of that kind of natural position in the number 10 role. Rossi, have you got anything to add? Would you agree with us? Clearly, you know, there's an argument. We don't know how fit Felagin is, but clearly when he plays, he's generally pretty good. Scored that classic, iconic goal in the first game. And Sindra would be another option on the right, or even, as AJ said, Mometi, perhaps on the left, if you didn't want to start Jack Clark.

34:04Has it got any kind of differing views?

34:08Ross Halls:No, I think keep it as it is, really. From the Birmingham game, those three behind the striker. Jack Clark is fantastic, isn't he? I think Jalen Filagini is the king at Portman Road, but Jack Clark's the one who's been scoring goals away from our East. He's of course scored goals at home as well. But no, start Jack Clark. Casey McAteer has read his, you know, AJ said, you've said, you know, he's the hot hand at the moment. So let him, you know, continue that form. And no, you've got to start Nunes for this one. You've got to. I think him off the bench, he'll get more, you know, more abuse I think if he came off the bench I think at least when he's on the pitch he'll get abuse anyway but at least he's already on the pitch and he doesn't really care I think a lot of players always say they block out but when you're like the announcer going and coming on for Ittrius Town, Marcelo Nunes and that will just be deafening and yeah him sitting on the bench I'm sure there'll be Norwich fans just going over the bench and there is obviously Norwich fans near the bench the literally town dugout so he would probably get a lot of a lot of bad things said about him so you've got to start him for this one because that is the biggest talking point in this starpy um it's probably the first time in a long time like andy marshall is the only other where there's been like a moment where a player has returned the carrow road like liam gibbs of course had that little thing but liam gibbs no offense to him but it you know andy marshall i remember speaking to him years ago when um for the pod about him doing that move and he's first returned to Caron and he did get a lot of stick and thankfully he got a win in that one so he had the last laugh.

35:44Ross Halls:Hopefully Nunes will have the same and yeah as you boys mentioned he will definitely have a moment in this one. I just hope his free kicks are getting better because the last few have been pretty bad. He's going to get booed every time he touches the ball isn't he? And I think he's going to love it. I think he's going to feed off it. Ross I'll stick with you then. Only position left to talk about is up top and it seems like a fairly obvious choice here because Yeah, imagine. Go with Tuba. It's going to be George Hurst though, isn't it? Ivan Azon, we know, is maybe not fully fit. It seems to me obvious that it's going to be George Hurst.

36:18Do you agree?

36:20Ross Halls:Yeah, because once again, it is one to watch, isn't it? Ivan Azon. I know Kieran McKenna was never going to show all of his cards, was he? With the Azul Matasiwa fitness update. But yeah, George Hurst, you've got to start him. We, of course, spoke on the previous podcast. last about we thought he was okay against Birmingham. And yeah, he was injured for the last derby game at Carroll Road. So I'm sure he'll be up for this one and I'm sure he'll get, he'll battle against those Norwich defenders who are better than they were when we last played them. So yeah, he's the only option really, because Tubert at Pomona would just joke about that, but he's nowhere near going to start again for Tower, I think.

37:08Ross Halls:So, yeah, George Hurst, number nine, back of the shirt. Can he have a moment as well? Yeah, it's going to be George Hurst, isn't it, AJ, up top? Yeah, I think so. I don't think there's going to be any real surprises with even Azon. I think the way that Kieran McKenna spoke about him after the game against Birmingham where he said, we need to see how he is. We're not sure for the next few games, says to me, that it's not a long-term one, but it's not going to be overly short-term either. And with the regularity of the fixtures, look, this is a massive, massive game, but you can't... If you said to me that...

37:46Controversial. If you said to me that Ipswich lose tomorrow and win the rest of their games, I would take it because they'd go and win promotion to the Premier League. And with that in mind, you also then have to think about balances of the team. You have to look ahead to Pompeii. You have to look ahead to Middlesbrough. You have to look ahead to Charlton and to West Brom and Southampton and to all of these games coming up. And with players like Azon and with Wes Burns as well, you can't push them too hard to be back for this game. And Town have good options there. Look, George Hurst has really impressed me in the last few.

38:15We had that debate on Tuesday after the Birmingham game about his performance, but I thought he was fine, was good. He got the assist for McAteer's winner. Before that, he's been chipping in with a few more goals now, getting into better positions, making more things happen. I'm happy with Tew Brackpong coming on for the final 15, 20, 10, however many minutes that he needs to play. So given the options that Town have, Azon gets more time to recover for me. Hurst starts and Tewba can fill in when he's required. Okay, that's the starting 11 done then. Before we get, I want to talk about potential heroes and X-Factors and that kind of stuff.

38:53Before we do that though, let's have a look about Norwich. You've done some key battles. When you look at the Norwich side, and Ross has already mentioned Mattson, and Almeid, who worries you about Norwich in terms of players we need to look out for?

39:12Ahmed is going to be one of them off the left. I think he is going to have a big say in this game, and we're going to need a strong old performance from Darnell Furlong because he's been, Ahmed's been really, really impressive since joining. He joined from Vancouver Whitecaps in January. you would think that coming from MLS mid-season to England, to Championship football, would be quite difficult. Four goals, three assists. He's been really impressive. And that for me is one of the key battles within this, is keeping him quiet. If you can do that, it's going to limit a lot of what Norwich can do going forward.

39:45Midfield is obviously going to be a key battle. And having Azul Matosi were fit for that will be important. Mattson's been really impressive. He was poor. I'd go as far as saying in the last derby and since then really stepped up, scored the, I think it might have been the winner no it wasn't the winner, scored the equaliser against Millwall on Easter Monday, I think he'll go alongside Kenny McLean so you've got the experience and the youth there so it's going to be really important for Azor and maybe Daniel who've kind of gone with to win that battle there, it's important that that then opens up the space for, again, assume Marcelino Nunez further ahead because Mattson is going to be tasked with sticking close to him.

40:29So that would be important. Obviously, look at the back line, improved a lot as well. Darling and Cordoba seem to be the favoured centre-back partners there. So it's going to be up for the Hurst to really battle those two, in particular Cordoba, I think has been really impressive. Only 24, 6 '2 centre-back who's placed for Panama. So he needs to really handle that side of things as well. And then the wild card as well, I think it's worth mentioning for Norwich. They've been going with Matthias Chris-Garden up top. He missed the last derby through injury. He was a big blow because he started the season really well.

41:03Came back and it's been fine. I think no more than that. But they signed a player in January, an Australian striker from Randa's FC in Denmark called Mohamed Toure, 22. And he's been out with a knock for quite a while. Came back on Good Friday against Portsmouth. and then was brought off the bench in the Millwall game. Got the assist for both of Norwich's goals. He's been in really good form since coming into the Championship. Again, four goals, three assists. He's only played six games, notched a hat-trick away at Oxford. So centre-backs are going to have to be really aware too because he, for me, is the big attacking threat if he's going to start this one.

41:42Him and Ahmed are the ones to really keep an eye on from an attacking sense, but ways for Ipswich to hurt Norwich as well, especially with the creativity in the middle of the park. Well then Rossi, I want a Derby Day hero and I want a Derby Day X Factor slash wildcard. So when I'm thinking hero, I'm thinking you're Danny Haynes, you know, Philogene from the last game, someone who makes the headlines. And when I'm talking X Factor, I'm talking maybe someone who has a key part to play but isn't necessarily the headline act, if you like. Who are you saying? There's an obvious choice clearly because there's a lot of narrative around obvious choice.

42:17What do you reckon?

42:19Ross Halls:i'm gonna start with the x-factor um and you won't probably you normally wouldn't use this player in these sort of words but i don't know why i've got this weird feeling i was thinking about this yesterday yeah don't know furlong i don't know why just he's a bit of a shit house um sorry any any families listening um and he loves to definitely away from home he has that edge to him a wind-up merchant yeah yeah very much so and i think he's gonna do that in this game. I don't know why. I have a feeling he's going to have something to say in this game. We've had white backs in the past in derbies.

42:57Ross Halls:Fabian Willness was obviously famous for scoring in a derby and also just hating Norwich. He got death threats from Norwich fans back in the day. When I've spoken to him in the past through interviews and just general chat, he always just shares his hatred of Norwich. So, Darnell Furlong, I'm going to continue that at right back. And I think he's going to have a moment in this one. Hopefully not a red card because that would not be good. I like that. I like that. That's exactly what I'm thinking with the X Factor, you know, someone that's got some kind of effect on the game that might necessarily not be being talked about at the moment and won't be the main character, but will have that impact.

43:34I like it. It's a good one.

43:36Ross Halls:And then, WWE Hero, who's going to score the winner? Do you know what? Syndra. What? off the bench I don't know if you've seen the club put out a training video I think it was maybe two minutes long and he scored a few headers in that there was a few like some of the crossing drills and he scored a really good header I was like oh I love that Syndra so maybe yeah I won't get into my prediction just yet but maybe he will be on the score sheet and he will score the winner for town with a good goal so yeah why not off the bench to really make his mark because he's really been up and down, hasn't he?

44:18Ross Halls:Still, you know, young, still got a lot of potential, as AJ mentioned earlier. So, yeah, that would be my pick. I like him. I like both of those. AJ, give us yours then. Derby Day hero and an X-Factor slash wild card.

44:33I mean, the hero, look, I've kind of already hinted as where I've gone on the record with my prediction and we'll come on to that, so I won't talk about it now. I'll give you someone a little bit different. Casey McIntyre would be my slightly different... You swine! Sorry, I'm sorry. Look, if you want him as your first goal scorer in the predictions, it's fine because I won't be having him. But for the hero... Look, for the hero slot, what a story it would be. I've still seen quite a lot of comments aimed his way, despite what for me was a man of the match display and a winning goal on Monday and really improved performances.

45:10What better way to win over a fan base than winning a derby at Carradine Road? It would be brilliant. I think that we have to start the left back for Norwich. But if it's Fisher, he's kind of a natural right sider, then you've got space to run at him. You can take him on. He's a young player. He's got the pace and the physicality. I think he's suited to a derby game. He's got the confidence. He'll have even more confidence if he's picked to start on this one. really think that he could have a big say in this one even though he's not going on to my prediction X Factor the player we're not talking about we've not said anything about him I think of the predicted line-up we didn't say a thing, Christian Walton is my X Factor pick Ipswich are going to come under the cosh in this game they are going to be under pressure, they are going to have to face shots, they are going to have to face shots on target to keep a clean sheet it's going to take a hell of a lot.

46:09Who knows what's going to happen in this game? Norwich haven't had a penalty, for example, in about 50 years. So it would be written in the stars for them to have one here. And I just think that Christian Walton's going to stand up to it. Made a couple of good saves in that game against Birmingham. He's just kind of quietly consistent. Loves a clean sheet. And for me, I think he's got something to do, let's say. In this game, he'll be busy. and I'd really back him to stand up to the test at Carradine Road. So those are my two, Casey McAteer and Christian Walton. You swine. I was convinced that at least one of you would say Nunez is the hero.

46:44He's the obvious choice. But my choice would be Casey McAteer. I think he looks like any player is a confidence player and he looks like he's really at the top of his game. He'll be absolutely buzzing for this one. He's got, as we say, he's got that physicality. He's got that pace. He's got that directness, which lends itself to a game like this. so I'm thinking he's going to end up being a bit of a hero and for my X Factor we've already talked about him but I just think off the bench I think Alice Mometi could be a real factor in this one when he comes on it's particularly if Towner you know either chasing the game or looking for a winner that kind of thing I think his extra energy and the ability to create something I think he could well be someone who unlocks something so we might too McAteer and Alice Mometi let's do predictions then friends the the final bit you've all been waiting for ifststown haven't won at carrow road since 2006 um i won't tell you how old i was because it will depress me but these boys were barely alive i'm sure um and they haven't all right piss off um and they haven't done the double over norwich for 28 years and alex definitely wasn't alive for that one and ross was barely alive uh i was alive and older than i care to admit um so i am leading the way aren't i ross however has nailed the uh the last prediction he's got two out the last three is it ross you've got right um definitely last game i don't know about there was another one you got bob on as well i'm sure was it the way i think i think there might have been another one that he had as well

48:13Ross Halls:was it the away game after what was the recent the last sheffield where so the last four have been Stoke 3-3, Shuffle Wednesday 2-0, Millwall 1-1 and the Birmingham game. I think you might have had 2-0 at Shuffle Wednesday. Yeah. Maybe. But anyway, I'm informed. So, obviously I will ask you, do you want me to go first, boys? Obviously as a leader in the clubhouse, the best man as it stands, do you want me to go first and set my stall out or do you want the opportunity to pick before I do? Have you seen my prediction? I don't know if you've read the preview. I've already had to nail my colours to the mask early doors on this one because of the fact that I have a section in the preview where I talk about my prediction I can keep quiet and let you just do your own one or I can say mine and get it out of the way so you can do so it's totally your call well I've not read the preview so why don't you boys go first you get you get your opportunity to pick first and then I'll go at the end and obviously Stu who is currently on holiday will come back for this game and then go off on holiday again um yeah we'll get his prediction as well uh go on then AJ give us your prediction thank you granddad um yes i'm going to it's a bit of a head v heart one this to be perfectly honest i have so many fears going into this game um but i don't care you know i'm probably not going to win the predictions league so let's have a bit of fun and i am going to back ipswich to win it and i am going to back ipswich to win it 1-0 and i am going to back marcelino nunez to score the winner at carrow road um i haven't written this in the preview but i'm going to say it's from a free kick why not He's going to bend one in to win the derby, and it's going to be a mirror image just flipped from the last time.

49:55It won't be one of those slightly weird dipping long-match. Have you seen his free kicks recently? Look, shut up, Ross. I'm sticking with it. Look, I know his free kicks have been poor, but if there's any time that he's been out on that training pitch, practicing, getting them in with David Button, back fit, and trying to save them on the training pitch, This is the time for Marcelino Nunez to strike. He's going to be so up for this one. Yeah, I'm going to back it. I'm going to have a mirror image, a flip of the last derby game at Carrad Road. 1-0 up switch. Marcelino Nunez to score the winner.

50:301-0 Nunez to score the winner. Rossi, as we say, you're the form man, as it were. Before I ask you for your actual score prediction, Rossi, what do you think the chances we get a red card in this one?

50:41Ross Halls:I don't know. The derbies in recent hadn't had much edge to it. The last derby at Carroll Road, they didn't turn up, did they? Yeah. That was really disappointing. It was a really flat game. But yeah, these derbies, there's only been a few little moments here and there where you're like, oh, OK, getting a bit tasty. But as I know... I feel like this one will have edge, though. Do you know what I mean? Because obviously we've got the newness thing. We've also, as you mentioned, we've got Furlong, who's a bit of a wind-up merchant. I fancy this might have a bit more edge than recent games. But I don't know.

51:14Ross Halls:The referee, who is Anthony Backhouse, he hasn't given a red card this season. There we go. Two in this game. Yeah, but he's not card-happy at all. I think he's a really good referee. Tano never lost a game under his watch. He was in charge of the Swansea 3-0 at home and also the Coventry 2-0 win at their place. So we've got a pretty good record. I don't know if that's good or bad, because that could easily change. He's like, oh, no, he's going to have a bad game now for us. So, yeah, it's been a long time since we've had a red card in the derby. I think the last one probably was the playoffs, I think, where Christoph Berra decided to be a goalkeeper.

51:54Ross Halls:He got a red card in that one. So, yeah, there's potential of a red card, definitely with the Nunes factor, because he's starting in this one, because Nunes came off the bench, didn't he, in the Hall & Road game. so yeah a little bit of bite will be nice and I just want, they need to turn up these boys, luckily there's only Davis and Taylor who played in the last derby at Carrow Road so there's a lot of new players now that are going to be experiencing the Carrow Road derby so hopefully they'll and Daro Shea of course spoke very well earlier so they'll know how important this is because yeah 20 years to win at Carrow Road yeah I was 9 I was at that game thankfully I have seen a town win at Carrow Road I was a young Roscoe I was in that away end enjoying that and didn't think I would never see a town win at Carrow Road after that which is mental and to do the double over them as well that would be nice and to get a clean sheet that isn't my prediction unfortunately we haven't kept a clean sheet since 2003 against Norwich so that would be nice But anywho, my prediction, my friend?

53:06Ross Halls:Do you want it? I want your prediction, yeah. Okay. I want to go. It's going to go with heart instead of head. Head goes running through, doesn't it? But let's go heart. Let's go for a town win. 2-1. Do the double. I do like to win 2-1 just like we did in 2006. 20 years removed from that game. Same scoreline. And it'd be funny if I say, yeah, Jimmy Guarn scored a free kick that basically deflected off the head of Norwich goal scorer because they took the lead in that game. And that was great scenes, the Frenchman scoring that free kick with so likable, low knee back then. We signed him from Monaco.

53:47Ross Halls:He was just a lovely, lovely guy he was. To make a 1-1 and then Danny Haynes with the handball goal. But no, I'm not going with that. I'm going with Darnell Furlong to score first because... Are you really? You're going Furlong? I'll take. Random, random goal. I love it. I love it. As I mentioned in X Factor earlier, he hasn't scored yet in Town Colours. So that'll be nice. Your first Town goal. I'm trying to decide how it's going to happen because he's not that often in the box, is he? Well, no. He's not up there. There has been a few times where he has roundly popped up in the box. I don't know.

54:26Ross Halls:It was a goal recently where it was like, what is double-nose furlong doing in the box? What's he doing there? But yeah, he's going to find a way to be in the box and he's going to score to open the scoring. You know what? I hate to say it. Maybe the equaliser. Norwich score. Another comeback win then. A comeback win again. Who is the hero then? Syndra. Oh, yeah, of course. So you're giving us both goal scorers, Ross. You're going 2-1. You're telling us the exact game state, equaliser from Furlong and then the winner from Sindre from a header. You've already said. Yeah. There we go. Imagine if that all comes to pass.

55:03So we've got two wins then. We've got two wins. We've got one nil and Nunes. We've got two one and Furlong for the first goal scorer. And also I like the thought of young Ross, nine years old sitting in the carry road away and with a full beard already. Back then. Yeah. You've both gone with your heart over your head. and I appreciate that because Derby days are times for heart. But unfortunately, I might have to go with my head and it makes it more fun if I do because it's different from your boys. I think it's going to be a draw. I think it's going to be 1-1. And I think who's going to score?

55:39I like George Hurst to score, actually. I think George Hurst will score. So I'll go 1-1 and George Hurst and we'll find out from Stu what he thinks. Clearly, I hope I'm wrong. The record shows that I very often am. Ask my wife. So we will see. But the boys saying wins, I'm saying a draw. Right then, friends, have we got anything else to mention? Anything else you want to talk about as we head to this Derby Day game? How would you feel about a draw? Because obviously, you know, you want Ipswich to go and win. It's a good result. Yeah. Like they're in good form. Given the form, given the Ipswich's performances, it's weird that Ipswich haven't beaten an eight because I can't really think of a time that they've played that well in the last eight, to be perfect.

56:24Lyon's at least over both halves. So, yeah, for me, if they can take something from this, that's going to be the biggest thing for me. Get a point or three from it would be really big because it is ticking off one of their hardest games to come up there with Southampton at the moment, given the two teams' forms. But it's an interesting position to be in, isn't it? and I suppose at the same time are there similarities with the one two years ago? I know that the defeat was very difficult to take back then but they managed to refocus the minds and go again. I think a win here would be transformative, wouldn't it?

57:10In terms of what it would do for confidence. Can you imagine how you feel going into the Pompey game and into Borough next Sunday as well off the back of beating one of the in-form teams in the division, your arch rivals, would be huge. But it's an interesting dynamic. And the one thing I hope that doesn't come from it as well is how often are derby games, in Ross's words, damp squids? I love saying that. Yeah, I've seen quite a few of them, and I was almost tempted to go, I haven't gone with my heart, and the Nunez winner, a 0-0 would have felt like quite a safe bet. You look at the Sheffield, the Steel City derbies, are all pretty, they're all terrible from what I've seen.

57:48And like Southampton, Portsmouth, all the hype around that for it to finish nil-nil. Hopefully it's not one of those, but I wouldn't be surprised, you know. I feel like it's going to be a good game. I really hope it is. Obviously Norwich are in good form. They've got the narrative around them. We've got the Nunes thing. There's so much spice going into it. The position that Town are in, chasing promotion, Norwich chance to put a major spanner in the works of that. It's going to be a good game. I really hope it's going to be. Rossi, what time are you picking Rossi up AJ did you say, you're picking Rossi up tomorrow are you?

58:18I am, he's in Cambridge so I'm driving to Ipswich and then up to Norwich no absolutely not he's at his dad's, which is around the corner from me, what time it wasn't half six, I was joking it's probably going to be about half eight, much better it does take about an hour and a half to get up to Norwich from mine, so So, yeah, I'll be leaving mine at about half eight tomorrow, I'd imagine. Okay. Rossi, you have the chance to take another iconic picture of a Derby day tomorrow. Obviously, you've got the really nice one of Cedric Kieper on his knees pointing at the sky in the first one, which is a cracker.

58:58What's it like for you in these games? Because as a photographer, clearly, you can't really watch the game, as it were. You have to kind of predict what's happening and get all your shots in line. Is it harder with a game like this when there's so much emotion around it? do you find yourself watching the game more a little bit switch off as it were

59:15Ross Halls:yeah once again in this one you've got to decide where to sit because where the town fans are in the way and by the way this is the worst away game of the season because it's just for fans you just get shepherded you're basically like getting like your prisoners getting escorted to the prison or Carroll Road because especially because there's no trains this weekend so there's like four options for fans to pick up tickets you know the coach I think there's collection points around Norwich and stuff. It isn't like a normal away game where you can go to a away pub. Away fans are lucky at Porn Road because they've got the pub outside the train station, which is perfect, but for town fans, they're going to have to just go to the ground and they're going to probably have to be in the ground for hours to wait for the game to start, which is just, I don't know, the atmosphere may be not as good as it would be normally.

1:00:07Ross Halls:But yeah, there'll be a lot of stick. But, yeah, it's just trying to find the right perfect spot to get that picture. Because if the players score in the first half, they may turn around and celebrate with the town fans. So I'm going to get back. So I'm debating where do I go? But no, I don't know. I could get spotted. I could get some stick from Norwich fans. I know the Itchwich boys, apparently they're going to be wearing their colours. So they're going to get a lot of stick. I know I was speaking to Richard and Harry of Richardstown and they were saying, yeah, that's just funny, you know, when you just get those stick from Norwich fans.

1:00:42Ross Halls:But, yeah, it's going to be interesting. You know, I've only taken pictures of Carrow twice, actually. This will be only my second, this will be my second derby because I obviously did the reverse a lot, you know, two years ago and that was just, there wasn't many pictures to capture because nothing happened. so I think sadly I really got a good picture of Nunes celebrating because he turned around and sort of celebrated right in front of me and I was like oh my dear hopefully I'll get reverse this time, hopefully I'll get a good one of Nunes celebrating which will be nice so yeah it's hopefully been a lovely sunny day as well is it shorts weather just yet?

1:01:23Ross Halls:No. Probably not but yeah it's going to be a good atmosphere, I'm sure I'm going to be capturing maybe different like snakes and other bits and bobs um i'm just gonna be my eyes are gonna be very much on nunez i think for most of the games i want to just see how how he is and that's the key talking point isn't it so it'd be great to see if his you know tackle is going in and all that so i just want to as you mentioned try to find the iconic picture that we'll use um for hopefully many years to come there's an interesting quote wasn't there aj from mckenna talking about nunez yesterday when uh i think one of the one of the guys said honestly do you do you want him going into this game trying to wind people up and and mckenna was like speaking honestly no i don't want him anyone to go into this game thinking they're going to wind people up essentially you know we've got to keep our heads amongst the the maelstrom of the derby day atmosphere which i thought was interesting i think so yeah you know what i'm not even that worried about um marcelino nunez winding people up i'm more worried about darnell furlong i think I feel at the end of it, maybe it'll be Darnell Furlong.

1:02:28We need to police escort out of Carrow Road. Yeah, I trust him. I trust Marcelino Nunez to kind of keep his head during the game because when games are on, he's always very much laser-focused. I think that, look, full-time, if Towne can get the job done, it might be a different story going towards that away. And we saw that, obviously, with the reverse fixture, with the Chris Reeve banner, with everything that came with that and the celebrations and the corner flags. I wouldn't rule out something like that after the game, but for however long he's on the pitch tomorrow, I'd back Marcelino Nunez to very much keep his head for sure.
