A mishap? I sat down and just felt a wetness. I don't know what it is, and I think that that's the thing that's more concerning. Oh, what the? That didn't come to me. What are you guys? Los Angelans have seen this every day of your lives, but I don't see this often. I think I got the authentic Venice Beach experience.
7:20Jason Kelce:That's what I feel like. You've got to give some context. Rest assured, we are within 80 % confidence that it was a mango smoothie. I don't know, man. I don't know. I've seen a mango smoothie, man. I've also maybe just talked myself into that. That was a very unfortunate mishap. There's also, by the way, those white things are showers. 8:31Jason Kelce:It's wild. It really is. It feels like we just started this, you know, what, three years ago? It feels like we just started yesterday and now we're doing it in front of a crowd like this. It's really remarkable. It's crazy how far it's come. 11:43Jason Kelce:This is incredible. That's right. Oh, right there.
11:52That thing had some kick on it. Yeah, that had a lot of kick on that. Crank those supers up. Look at this! How's that? Wow. Look, wait. Two shitheads from Fifth Manning. And you guys built this. This is insane. And you're here. For all these other shitheads. Which I am one of those shitheads. Let's go. If you build this, they will come. It's the only time any of these people will ever come to live theater. right this is a bit of a classy this is a classy joke did you guys realize it's gonna be such a class i don't think though the orpheum theater knew what they were getting into no no hopefully we get them were you guys in the plays at high school at all did you high school theater um i
12:45Jason Kelce:did not i did you guys would have been amazing i would have loved to honestly we were just playing sports i did do swim cadets was a oh swim was that like synchronized swimming it was synchronized swimming yes and they would recruit they would have a military component as well a little bit the woman who ran it was very militaristic yes yeah uh very militant but they would recruit guy cadets and we would run skits in between while the ladies were setting up for their next show so me and my buddies just go out there on this pool deck and we'd be messing around yes you guys gotta bring that back you should see this guy in a speedo oh we don't need to bring that back.
13:22No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm not afraid to rock a Speedo. Did anyone rock a Speedo down in Venice when you were down there? Oh, yeah. Tons of Speedos. Look great, too. Yeah, they look great. They're very aerodynamic. It's funny. The key to a Speedo, after three minutes, you forget you have a Speedo on. It's fantastic. Those three minutes. Those three minutes is torture. A lot of looks. Just metal torching. A lot of looks. I had a buddy who, for his 50th birthday party, he did like a three-day party, and it was near the ocean. I brought a Speedo. I changed Speedos every three hours. So I come out in a different Speedo.
14:10Jason Kelce:Yeah. And it divided people on a comedy line. Oh, interesting. Yes. Who's into it? Half the crowd was like, that is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Keep the Speedos coming. Other people were like, please stop.
14:25Please stop. We get it. We get it. Does the three minutes of the Speedo, does it happen every time you put on a new Speedo? No. It's just about the first Speedo. You can break the seal. You're good to go. Dude, you've had a crazy, crazy year, brother. Look at that. We got a little bit of a sport court up here. We got a sport court going on up here. Dude, you've had a big summer. You've had a huge summer. Obviously, we've seen you at the Kings games, the Lakers games. Talladega Knights' 20th year anniversary. Hosting the season finale, SNL. Season finale, SNL. Oh, my gosh. Are you the busiest man in Hollywood?
15:09No. Not even close. No. Where does New Heights rank among how busy you are? This is? Are we up there? You guys are definitely up there. Yeah! You guys are definitely up there. He's a people pleaser. No, I make it look like I'm busy, but I got plenty of time. It's the best kind of busy right there. More cowbell.
15:33Jason Kelce:How does it feel, the 20th anniversary of Talladega Nights coming up? What is that? That feels like it went by in the blink of an eye. It's kind of incredible to have a film like that. you know resonate with so many people and uh talladega nights was a knee-jerk reaction to how hard anchorman got was to get made yeah no one wanted to make that movie and i said to uh adam my writing partner i i said gosh we should just pick a topic that's really popular and just build something like for instance like everyone loves nascar yeah we just write a nascar comedy he called me back five minutes like that's not a bad idea and that we sold that in two seconds and then I mean two guys who knew nothing about motorsports and we write the seminal movie on NASCAR it seemed like you knew everything about we were surrounded by a lot of good people this year and yeah it was it's crazy it's crazy right absolutely crazy Boulevard everything down there did you Did you drive a car?
16:40Jason Kelce:I handed gas cans in. I drove a car at Charlotte Motor Speed. Jason won a championship. I did win a race. You did win a race? Well, Corey Day technically won the race, but I was a part of the team. But you were the gas man. I was the handoff to the gas man. Will, he had a onesie on. Did he dedicate his win to you? He did. He actually insisted that I keep coming back, and I unfortunately had to retire immediately. By the way, when we were rehearsing for the movie, we were like, okay, we want this to be as real as possible. So we did pit crew training. So that was going to be my question. And I was, because Ricky Bobby was a jack man.
17:18That's an underrated job. Underrated. So hard. And all the guys who are tire changers, they were looking for defensive backs, college football players. Yes. Because you have to be super fast, strong, move around quickly. I was like, this is the hardest thing. What are we doing?
17:36Jason Kelce:Absolutely. What are we doing? I think now on the monologue, they want to change four tires, refuel the car, do all of that in under nine seconds, which is just mind-blowing to think about. And they're each doing different changes. And with you, it's more like 25 seconds? I think it was nine seconds for me to hand the gasket. And spilled a lot of gas. All the tires are on the wheel already? it's it's an incredibly hard thing yeah i'm not gonna lie and like you just said many of them are like former collegiate athletes football players yeah uh they have coaches that are coaching them and watching the footage with them uh it's pretty remarkable what they do down there in the pit there was there would have been nothing happier for me to see than for you to just absolutely eat shit with that fucking gas can i wanted you to go viral for throwing the gas can at the car.
18:30And Talladega, if any race fans know this fun fact about Talladega Motor Speedway, it's the only racetrack that has its own what? Shake and bake. Shake and bake. That's a lot of shake and bake.
18:45Jason Kelce:It does have that. It's the only raceway that has its own what? Jail. That's how you know they have fun. That's how you know they have fun. That's a compliment. I only know one other place that has a jail. at an event like that. And that's the field called the Eagles Lincoln Financial Field. The Veterans Field, famously, the Eagles old stadium had a jail underneath the stadium. Oh, okay. Yeah. One in the same. Yeah. And you win. You win at both. I do want to... Is there... So you have the Hawk coming out. Yes. July 16th. Yes. Kakao! Kakao! The Hawk. Yeah. Lonnie the Hawk Hawkins. Why do you enjoy doing sports comedies so much?
19:38Jason Kelce:What is it about? I think, obviously, I grew up, you know, one of the best things my mother ever did for me was sign me up for AYSO soccer when I was eight years old. Kicking and screaming. And that was the first time I was involved in team sports. I kind of hated it at first, but anyway, from that point on, I loved playing sports, I loved being on a team, and it led to loving, I think, working in film, working on an ensemble show like Saturday Night Live, where it's all about teamwork. And then, obviously, that's what I thought I was going to do prior to going into comedy, was be a sportscaster.

20:22So I think it's always an easy reference point for me in terms of combining two things I love. And this was just a great opportunity to kind of send up golf and the PGA in a way that hadn't really been done before. And Netflix just kind of let us make a very fun old school comedy with horribly unredeemable characters. That's what Lonnie is. He's a total narcissist who only wants to win. And he's, yeah.
21:00Jason Kelce:So you just said you went into NASCAR and not knowing much about NASCAR with television. How much golf has the Hawk been playing? The Hawk's been playing a fair amount of golf. I'm a 17 handicap. Why are you laughing? We're not far off. Where are you guys? He's lower probably a 10 you're 10. Okay like a 15. Yeah, so Yeah, we can you and I we can you give us strokes? deal yeah But no, yeah, I've gotten a little bit of your dream golf round. I'm good enough I'm good enough to to fill myself swinging a golf club. Yeah Yeah, I love it. The so the hawk is do we know when it's coming out? Are we July 16th?
21:53Great cast, Molly Shannon, Chris Parnell from SNL, Luke Wilson, Fortune Feimster. Yeah, we got to shoot it here in L.A., and we just had the best time. That's awesome. Great time. Well, shout out to Netflix, July 16th, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. And I'm going to be too big.
22:16I really wanted to talk to you, even when we had you on New Heights, about my guy. fellow tight end Mike Dicka in kicking his screen. Oh, Mike. Is that man as intense as he seems? Coach was the best. But yes. I witnessed his hip pop out of joint. My gosh. Yes, while we were filming. And then the medic came and popped it back in. and then I said coach you want to just shut it down he's like no we're good and uh let's just keep let's just keep another cup of coffee and we'll be good but uh he threw himself into that he he was uh he was so fun and funny and I mean he just had to be Mike Dicka yeah uh which was such a funny move that that that's who I get to be my assistant coach um and ordering around i don't know how you kept it together dude i would have i would first of all i don't know how you look at my dickhead and oh he would i could scream it at him and then we yell cut and he'd just crack up but i was like the only way i can do this is the i know that we're acting because if i do this in real life you would you would punch me in the face but um but he'd have us at his place in Chicago and in fact we were we were there having a dinner because we did some promotional stuff in Chicago and he's like will come with me and he walked he took me from our dinner we walked in this banquet room we walked into someone's wedding reception and the groom is giving a toast and he just goes anyway Barbara I love you so much and your family oh my god Will Ferrell and Mike Dick.
24:10And he starts sweating and I'm like, Hey, how you doing? Sorry. Coach brought me in here. He's like, what are you guys doing here? He's like, Hey, how's everyone doing? Having a great time? And then he's like, I love doing that. Come on, let's go back.
24:31Jason Kelce:Just stuff like that. you can't yeah you do seem like you'd love to do that type of stuff i mean yeah everyone is like you're the referee you're kicking check out you're right right right right you some of the kings are this year right last christmas okay i just uh i dressed as a disheveled down and out buddy the elf yes yes yeah that's it i do remember that with a lit cigarette and uh people were like this is why I love the NHL. Other people got mad at me. No, Buddy, what's wrong with Buddy? He can't be sad. Yeah, he can't be too sad. The world outside of the North Pole. Oh, no, this year I dressed as a full referee.
25:17I did a, and I just, I had a helmet, full ref outfit, and just imitated the refs. Yes. During the game. Yes. Talked to them in between the periods. They loved it. This is great. No one pays attention to us ever But you forget they got a waters for a game backwards to seriously yeah
25:37Jason Kelce:Yeah, then they gotta stay out of the way of the park. They got to see what they're gonna break up fights You guys would make good bros. I think second second career. Yeah, yeah, NHL refs I mean that's not a bad retirement. Were you guys skaters at all? Did you skate? We were after the swim cadets they get you on Okay, get right on the guys actually they would just freeze the pool We both played hockey growing up. Yeah. See, I see that. We got out there, yeah. I loved every Kingsman game. Are you sure? Had a fucking blast. Yeah, we didn't really have... Hockey didn't come to L.A. until much later.
26:13Pro beach hockey did, though. I remember watching that. Pro beach hockey. That was sweet. That was the league I wanted to play. Pro beach hockey in Speedos. Rollerblade. Yeah. Sign me up. Yeah. Well, let's get to some L.A. stuff. We know you're an L.A. guy, L.A. native. So we've got to ask you some L.A. questions. L.A. show. L.A. show. Just throwing it out there. What's the best burger out here in L.A.? Definitely. I mean, you can't go wrong with In-N-Out if you just need to. Animal style. But I just heard about a great place near an amazing taco place, La Escuela, on Beverly called Burger She Wrote.
26:59I mean, I'm in for the theme alone. The name, yeah. Another amazing Mexican place that borders on seafood is a place called Hobash. Anyone been to Hobash? It's down near the USC campus. Michelin star, like ceviche, incredible. It's got the Marshmallow Man plaque out front? Yeah. Yeah, it's got the plaque. I saw that one day and had no fucking clue. it was actually the Michelin Man giving all these stars out. Well, that's why he's huge, because he eats so much, and he knows where all the good places are. That's a guy I trust. Yeah, he trusts the Michelin Man. He knows.
27:37Jason Kelce:Yeah. Have you ever been to Frankin' It Up? Yes! That's Frank. Did the horn just... That was involuntary. Very. I mean, it's... I get it. When you go to Frankin' It Up. Yes! I have not been to Frankin' It Up. He just is on like a Blackstone in the middle of like a residential. This is the thing with L.A. L.A. has such good food. Yeah. In particular, burgers. And pop-up places. Yes. Yeah. Frank is just out there working this Blackstone, making these freaking burgers. Frankin' It Up. I've got to give him a shout-out because I've had him. Every time I come here, I make a point to go there. You go.
28:16Jason Kelce:Now I definitely want to. Wait, what part of town? Or is it moving around? It's honestly hard. It's off of Venice. It's in Venice. Yeah. And it's like, I just walk where the houses are and eventually you find Frank. You just go, Frank, Frank. And he goes, yeah, yeah. He's here. That's him up there in the upper deck. He is a diehard chief. He is a diehard chief. Frank in and up down in Venice. It's very good. Favorite tourist trip. favorite tourist trap is Erwan. Nice. I love it. There was a knife. Come here, baby! $80 smoothie! I need the collagen. I need the collagen. It has real chunks of gold in it.
29:16I sifted it into chunks of gold. I found gold in my smoothie. It's making me younger. I can feel it.
29:29We got a funny one on here. You know what's another good tour strap? Are the Hollywood tour vans. Oh, I'm all in on that kind of stuff. I love pulling up to one of those. Oh, yeah. This is gold. I'll take off my sunglasses and just be like, Hey, seen anyone famous yet?
29:50And the whole bus will go, I don't know. I just pull away. I just like, just head on down La Cienega or wherever. Yeah. It's so epic. You think you'll see anyone famous or I'll pull up and go, it's all lies. Everything he said to you is a lie. Madonna does not live there. what's the worst place anyone's ever caught you like wait wait wait wait caught me yeah caught you caught you red-handed like that you're red-handed yeah in the alley been caught a lot yeah that's what happens when you can't read ladies and gentlemen and shit comes out that you wish you could have back in a live show.
30:47And yes, I've been caught in the back of the Orphean Theater as well. Oh, that's so good. Fuck. All right, Jason.
30:56Jason Kelce:Let's get back on track. Do you have one thing you tell out-of-towners that out-of-towners should do? There's a lot of people not from L.A. potentially here. Is there something they have to do while they're in L.A.? You've got to go to the Hollywood Wax Museum and check out my star on the walk of the... Let's go! Right there in front. That's where it is. Yeah, that's prime real estate. Yes, right there. I'm usually there three times a week. Just shining that thing up. With some turtle wax, just buffing it.
31:44You gotta buffer that thing once a week. I gotta buffer it. I mean, we have amazing beaches. We have... L.A. has great places to hike if you're into hiking. Like Runyon Canyon, Franklin, all these places. What else? If you want to get caught, the alley will be on your floor. is a real must. Especially if you're from a foreign land. And I'll meet you back there. You know, we'll all get caught together. Gosh. You got it, Jason? Terrified to read anything else.
32:32Jason Kelce:He's terrified. Do you have a welcome to L.A. moment? He's from here. Well, yeah. I mean, I grew up in Orange County. I'm from Orange County. Now it's back on me. Yeah.
32:48So I remember, so we would, if you grew up in Orange County, you'd take field trips up to L.A. So I remember going to the La Brea Tar Pits as a kid. That was pretty cool. That's awesome. There we go. Young Will Ferrell out of Irvine. Yeah. Looking at dinosaur bones in the tar pits? Come on.
33:12Jason Kelce:Sign me up. Doesn't get more L.A. than that. Is it true? Okay, we do have Colin Jost told us this story. He said that you brought a briefcase of cash to your audition with Lorne. Is this a true story? I brought a briefcase to a meeting with Lorne Michaels full of fake cash. Not real cash. It was counterfeit money I found at a toy store because I was going to bribe him to get me on the show. So I had walked into this meeting, and I was going to... What comedian walks in with a briefcase? But I walked in, I was just going to start stacking money on his desk and just say, Lauren, we can talk till the cows come home.
34:02We all know what really talks. cash money and i'm gonna walk out of your office you can take it or you can leave it but i suggest you put me on the show anyway i was too nervous to do it it was too frightening and i just sat there with a briefcase and i could never pull the trigger and i had this really intense intimidating meeting with him where he actually was kind of coaching me as to because i had a call back the next day he was kind of telling me what i should do and not do and then and then I just walked out going that I must have looked like such an asshole with a briefcase and then he then the meeting where he finally told me I had the job I brought the briefcase again yeah but the assistant said you can leave your briefcase you don't need to put a brainer so then he then he then he finally told me I got hired and I I I walked out and I said to the assistant like I've been carrying around this fake money for six weeks now can you hand can you give him some and say thank you and he actually thought it was very funny in hindsight that I was trying to do this joke that he would have never laughed but yeah that was that was partly true yeah yeah yes speaking of intense moments is it true that you once did skits for the OJ jury in between we did yeah we did at the when we were when I was at the Groundlings theater here on Melrose we I was part of this the the company at that time when the OJ trial was going on and we we were like oh these people people are sequestered stuck so let's go do comedy for them in a courtroom and performed on some Saturday in bad fluorescent lighting in LA County court.
36:00Did you cheer some people up? Or was it just sale? I think they enjoyed it. It was so bizarre. Ladies and gentlemen, Will Barrow! Will Barrow!

37:15Jason Kelce:Women's National Team.
37:20Jason Kelce:They are Olympic gold medalists, three-time CONCACAF Women's Champions. They've combined for three NWSL championships, and in combined, they have scored over 100 goals in international play. 90 percenters, please welcome the two-time World Cup champions, Kelly O 'Hara and Alex Morgan! Whoa! Let's go!
37:46Thank you so much for doing this. It's already climbed up for you. It's got a little kick to it, so... Alex, what's going on? Okay, tell him, y 'all.
37:57Jason Kelce:Thank you so much for doing this. You're awesome. Oh! I told you I had a little kick to get it.
38:08Oh my gosh. Nothing like a little t-shirt. I really, really wanted to do that. I've never done that before. That was very fun. Thank you. Thank you. 92 % of us. How we feeling out there?
38:22We got some World Cup gold here. How about that?
38:27Jason Kelce:What's up, guys? All right. We have you guys here. Fresh off of a USA, like. Big win. Performance of all performance. Big win. It felt like a World Cup final. Like, we just kept scoring goals, and it was insane. So we're winning it all, right? 100%. After all the other results, I feel very confident, yeah. Yeah. What do you think, from you guys' standpoint, watching that game, what really stood out to you as experts in the game? It just looked good. Like, the possession of the ball, the breaking lines. Like, they were taking on the back line, but also like passing when they needed to. And it just looked good.
39:08Like it was good football. It was, I was genuinely, I watched the game and I was like, dang, that's some of the best football I've ever seen them play. And I was like, they look confident. They look cohesive. And they look creative. Come on, guys. Like. Sorry. No, they did everything right that they needed to in that game. And, and I mean, we've both been in world cups and we know like that first game, you have the nerves, you got to start strong. And that performance was like, okay, we got a chance here.
39:37Jason Kelce:I love it. I love it. Well, I'll say it's about time the men started acting like the US women out here. Started playing some damn footballs and soccer. How about it? There we go. We want the boys to win. We're behind them all the way. 100%. You know, how was, so, Alex, you were at the game? I was at the game. Were you there as well? Kansas City. She was going to come. She was going to come and she prioritized coming to the show. You were feet on the ground. Yeah, I was boots on the ground in Kansas City, watch party. Yeah, it was electric, as you like to say. So how are the fans right now? Was it as crazy as you would have imagined it to be, being World Cup in America?
40:13Yeah, I mean, if the fans weren't hyped up enough before, then they are now. Like, that game, I think, like, turned everyone into fans. Like, we're turning on all the games, or we're watching the U.S. win here. Yeah, I feel like, like, that's what's so cool about the World Cup is that obviously, in the stadium and experience, right? But, like, across the country, all the cities turn up. They have their watch parties. I was in Kansas City, Power and Light District. And, yeah, we got Kansas City fans in here. Yeah, obviously. We got any Kansas City fans in here? I'll just tell you. Just making sure.
40:49Jason Kelce:Just making sure. No, and Kansas City knows how to party. Come on, now. Very much so. Come on, now. I'm glad you're bringing up the Kansas City party that you were at because there's a clip that we want to play. One of my problems, so I went to the World Cup in Brazil when the men played, and one of the things that stood out is how behind we are as a nation with chanting. Okay? I feel like... I saw this rant from you on social media. How does it feel on your end when I'm ranting about a game that I have no expertise in? Well, you're not necessarily ranting about the game. You're ranting about the chant.
41:21That's right. Like, that's fair for you to do. Okay. You know, as a fan.
41:24Jason Kelce:Well, you encountered something that I think has some potential. Can we play this clip real quick? I agree. Yeah. George Washington! Oh my god! How are you? George what? How are you? I'm living the dream. We just won the opener! How are you feeling on a scale of 1 to 10? A 10! We're bringing it home! Ask George Washington, what would you want to say to the team tonight? 13 stripes, 15 stars, we don't care who the f*** you are! Oh! I feel like that's our chant. That's our chant this year. George did not mince words, you know? Can we get this chant going right now? You guys in? Do we got it? 13 stripes, 50 stars.
42:06Jason Kelce:We don't care who the fuck you are. That's a great chant. That is a great chant. Surprised we got that quick, to be honest with you. I know, because it's like, which ones come, the stars, the stripes? No, stripes first. Okay, stripes first. Once you do that, it's good. How do you guys feel so far that the United States is doing as a host nation? I keep seeing all these awesome videos of people experiencing a lot of genuine American things for the first time. I live in Philadelphia. Ecuador completely took over the Philadelphia Eagles Stadium. There's just something about the World Cup that feels so much bigger than really any other sporting event.
42:45Jason Kelce:How do you feel like the U.S. is doing so far? I think really good. I think there was a lot of criticism leading up to the World Cup. but like you your experience in philly in san diego switzerland switzerland has their home base there and i play paddle or padel a couple times a week i'm obsessed with it yes so if you guys haven't played you got there we go i'm in for the first time look out seriously that was really impressive actually i was like oh jason's really athletic i go what can't he do he played professional football but but yeah having them out at the paddle club um that i'm a part of like in san diego like they want to experience things so it's not just the fans it's like the teams as well so i think we're doing a pretty damn good job awesome yeah yeah no i i think we all had a little bit of anxiety around the World Cup coming to the U.S.
43:47ahead of it, just not knowing how things were going to go. You know, there were questions around host cities and stadiums and tickets and all this stuff, but it seems like everybody who's coming here is having such a good time. And I was so excited for the U.S. to welcome people and to show them the U.S., and I feel like that's actually happening, so I'm pumped on that. Love it.
44:06Jason Kelce:Love it. Love to hear from two pros here. All right, can we throw it back to the first time? You guys were in the World Cup. We actually have some pictures here. If you don't remember exactly, you can go ahead and check on it. How about it? Look at the pink. Was that a quarter zip? Those were my least favorite jerseys. To get those over your head and as a woman doing your hair, you're like, okay, now I've got to redo it. It looked like, I don't know, what did we call those jerseys? It wasn't good. It wasn't good at all. Yeah, we were. It happens for you guys when you're on your team. Like you get presented with the jersey and they're like, oh, yeah, the jersey unveil.
44:45Oh, and you have all the cameras And you're expected to like you're like, oh, those are so sick and then Sweet yeah, just we had
44:54Jason Kelce:These are fucking sweet. I Was also not a good white on white guy. I needed like a dark up top white bottom. I needed to look slim on the upper section He's is I was white. Oh, I just look like the Michelin man like we were talking about earlier. It wasn't a good look Oh, we're going to unveil white on white jersey. It's great. The most athletic man in the room is the most insecure about his stomach. It's the best. Every offensive lineman is miserable on game day when it's white on white. Just letting you know. We got one more pick up here. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. This was probably my 15 minutes of whatever the opposite of fame is.
45:30I went to this World Cup as an alternate. Like, I did not make the team. I got cut. And then Pia called and was like, somebody got injured. And she said, we need you. I'm just letting you know you're coming as a bench warmer us like a cheerleader and a training player And I was like soccer is fucking aggressive Well, I was like I was like PSA less like that's all like I'm okay with that like I'm down to go to the World Cup So I get a jersey? Yeah, no basically basically and so these 15 minutes that I got in the game were the worst 15 minutes of my life And I yeah, it didn't go well, but we prevailed so that's okay.
46:04Yeah, my first World Cup experience wasn't like this But me and Kelly, I think we've gone to every major tournament virtually together ever since 2011, 2010.
46:15Jason Kelce:You guys had like a great core group of players that were together for a long time. How was it to be able to build that chemistry? And then, Alex, what was it like when you first got your call to join the national team? What is that call like? It was the very first camp as Kelly. uh and then a couple months later we got our first caps the same week kelly in sunny san diego i i was warming up on the sideline for 90 minutes and never got the call and i think the coach forgot to tell me to like sit down like we were out of subs but i was still warming up we're out of subs you're still warming up yeah she forgot about me we're gonna say we're gonna say so then We go to Salt Lake City and it's 10 degrees and snowing and dumping snow before U.S.
47:04soccer doing great treats the teams. Well, back then could care less about a snow plower or any sort of way to get the snow off the field. That was my first cap. I'm from California. Never played in the snow. Two feet of snow. Didn't know what the hell I was doing.
47:19Jason Kelce:Yeah. Yeah. And I walked off the field and the coach said that was so funny. We were laughing at you the whole time. And it was, yeah, not a great... You did Snow Angels. You were on for that, right? That was my most memorable moment. I did a Snow Angel when Abby scored. Yeah, for celebration. Epic. Epic. Gotta love a good celebration. Very fitting. Yes. How do they compare from playing in the World Cup to the Olympics? Is it similar? Does it change a lot? Just curious from us. Everybody asks. Everybody always is like, what's better, a World Cup or Olympics? but the reality is they're completely different.
47:57Like World Cup is, yeah, World Cup, the whole world stops and watches soccer, football for four weeks.
48:04Jason Kelce:Right. Olympics, you're on Team USA, and you feel like you're teammates with these other athletes that are competing in all these different sports. So very different feelings. For me, when I was growing up, Olympics was like the thing. I didn't really, I was, I liked soccer, but my first vision of like female athletes was olympics the 1996 gymnastics team i was like i'm gonna do that yeah and so so for me like winning a gold medal was so cool but then i understood like the gravity and the you know how how amazing a world cup win was when we went to 2015 but yeah i agree i also want to say like for the women's world cup like the first world cup was in 91 for the women the first world cup for men dates back a hundred years long farther back than 91 so it was so so for us growing yeah so for us growing up olympics was definitely more memorable because that's what we see we saw women doing on tv like playing sports that was the only time we got to see women playing sports right yeah obviously like 99 was huge for me as a little girl playing soccer but yeah for sure but the 1996 Olympics was the first time I remember seeing female athletes on television and so that's that was why I was like Olympics is the thing I want to be an Olympian I'm going to be an Olympian yeah how do you guys feel do you wish that American football was in the Olympics no wait flag football yeah football's going we just are you coming are Are you coming out of retirement for flag football?
49:43Because after that, come on. Dude, you could be a wide receiver now.
49:49Jason Kelce:Unfortunately, I don't know that my skill set translates to flag football very well. Okay, you are very athletic. We just saw it. Well, we had the Hawk helping them out. I would say this. We just kind of found out that American flag football is a little different skill set than the actual football. Well, the flag team just beat a bunch, like Tom Brady and a bunch of former NFL players. So it is a different game. It's a different skill set a little bit. It's like mostly running. Yeah, it's much more. Yeah, not enough big guys out there imposing their will. Right. You know what I mean? I'm not going to lie.
50:28Jason Kelce:I don't know enough about it to really speak too much, but it does appear that it's much more agility based. Yes. These guys know the techniques on how to swivel their hips and not get the flag pulled. So they have a leg up and all that. I do know a lot of NFL guys do want to play. It'll be interesting to see who makes the American flag football team. I will say unequivocally, I think every NFL player is very jealous of all the other sports they get to represent their country. Because that is something that we love watching. Just like you, Kelly. Just like you, Alex. We grew up watching these moments in the Olympics and like it was so cool seeing people represent their country on the national on the international stage.
51:10Jason Kelce:Whether it's a World Cup Olympics, whatever it was. Those are some of the biggest moments from our childhood. And unfortunately, I mean, there's a lot of perks to football. That is one downside. Even more is that the summer Olympics are always right during our training camp. So that's like kind of the bonding that we have throughout camp to where we're like, as soon as we go off the field, we go straight over to the TV and everybody's huddled around the TV watching. all the games going on and rooting for America in that way. So without a doubt, jealous that we don't get to represent the country in that way.
51:39But I guess never say never. It's not too late. You still have a chance. You might translate. Listen, I'll create the annexation of Puerto Rico. I'll coach some guys up. I might not have the hips to swivel around and nobody touches my flag, but I'll make the catch. I'll make the catch. You can also do handballs. He's got smooth hips. What's that? Handball. Handball is another one I can't throw. I don't know if you saw me try and throw a baseball last year. All right, I'll take it back. I went viral. I thought you could. I think I saw that. It didn't go too well for me. That was pretty bad. Yeah, it was real bad.
52:11No way. My dad wasn't very proud. He taught me way better than that. Oh, gosh. Did you practice at all? Because I've thrown out a first pitch, and I'm like week before buying the glove, the ball, like I'm practicing. I should have did that. You've got to get it over the plate. That really doesn't surprise me in the slightest by you. I didn't. I thought it was just like riding a bike. and it would just come right back to me. And it didn't.
52:34Jason Kelce:All right, we're going to get back on track. Of all the World Cup moments, what are your guys' favorite moments? Winning. Yeah. I hear that. That sums it up pretty good. Next question. Do you guys have, like, a favorite host city out of the World Cup? I mean, Paris. Which one was the rowdiest? Paris when we played France in the quarterfinals 2019 World Cup that was an insane game to play yeah like I remember so we're playing the host country in Paris and I remember I don't know if you when we ran out to the field so like you warm up on either side of the field when we ran out we were warming we do part of our warm-up bar at the beginning of the warm-up on like a sideline and in front of where we were warming up and that's like the most time in a warm-up where you're really taking things in probably, it was all Americans, all American flags, all Americans.
53:29And so I was like, oh my God, we're rocking this place. We own this. It was our parents. Yeah, like literally. But then I hear after the game, and once the whistle blows, I'm locked in, I'm not really paying attention. After the game from all of our friends and family, they were like, no, no, no, no. That was this small of the stadium. Everything else was France. And they were all scared for us because they were just like, we are outnumbered here. and it was all France, but it was an insane game. It was the most fun, and we won. Winning is fun. Checks out.
54:03Jason Kelce:Is there anything, since soccer, football, as it is internationally known everywhere else, is on the world stage right now, is there something you want people that are taking it in for the first time? What do you want people to take away while they're watching World Cup for the first time maybe or just getting into the sport? I feel like a lot of people knock soccer because they're like it's slow and there's not a lot of goals like you know football your football it's like you run over the line and you get six points but it's really like one point. There have been games where I haven't even scored six points.
54:40So you can say that about every game. Yeah so you know some football games are actually like 3-2 you know if you did soccer. so it's true oh my god 21 to 28 she's not lying so and like yeah that's fun so should soccer points be worth 10 maybe you know and then it'd be like they're scoring so much that's such a good point but it's a beautiful game it's a game that you know the culture around it is so, I think, inviting and exciting and, like, different, right? All these different countries bring a different element when they're cheering for their teams. They've got their different chants. They have their different rituals, traditions.
55:30And it's just cool. Like, I think that sports is one of the most uniting things that we have. I'm into that. And to see the World Cup. Yeah, like, the World Cup is that. But, like, everybody. And that's my favorite part about it.
55:43Jason Kelce:What do you think? it does feel like the U.S. is really their appetite for soccer women's and men's continues to get bigger and bigger every year. What do you think is the best way to continue to promote the game within the states? Just keep doing what they're doing. Is there something in particular so that we can continue to kick Paraguay's ass? I don't really know. We don't want to kick Paraguay's ass. We want to kick Spain and France. Fair enough. Fair enough. Yes. I think it's all about like the youth system because soccer is a sport that you really do start training as a young kid and i think it's like in a lot of ways been made as like a business and i really want the youth system that's really fractured right now to like be repaired and really harnessed like kids like growing up and giving and giving them opportunities more opportunities than exist right now all right i think it's really expensive for kids to play soccer the leagues especially right and all the travel and everything.
56:44Jason Kelce:Yeah. It's, it's hard if you especially want to play at the high level. Yeah. I mean, in California, it's, it's pretty much, there's a country full of kids playing soccer in the state of California. But for some reason, every other weekend, kids are traveling all across the country to play other clubs. It's unnecessary. Yeah. Yeah.
57:06One of the biggest things that it, that was a part of my childhood and love of sports and fueled my fandom was inspiration. I know you two ladies have inspired an entire country with your play out on the pitch. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, give it up for Alex Morgan and Kelly O 'Hara! Thank you so much for doing this. Thank you to our sponsor, Enterprise. 59:27Jason Kelce:This is an LA show, so it is going to be involving Rams. Travis just alluded to the fourth guest. Our next guest is the 6 '4 defensive end from Texas A &M. The number one overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Seven-time All-Pro, seven-time Pro Bowler. The record holder for most sacks in a single season. The reigning defensive player of the year. No way. No way. Hey, who's getting ready? Miles Garrett!
1:00:01Let's go!
1:00:14Jason Kelce:Oh, loaded them up. I think they're happy right there. I'm a bad host. I'm a bad host.
1:00:26Take that home to my kids
1:00:37Oh The man is so powerful The shirt exploded That's how strong this man is for all my Rams fans in here who's house who's house there we go alright let's have a seat here alright
1:01:00Jason Kelce:Miles we gotta talk about one thing first as two Cleveland Heights kids be honest the Pacific Ocean has nothing on Lake Erie right
1:01:12Lake Erie has its charm but it's got nothing on the Pacific side fair fair I'm sorry we got the best beaches in the Midwest it's about the people
1:01:20Jason Kelce:in Lake Erie it's about the people over there it's about the people how's it feel so far you've been here for what a month what been here for a day I got in last night got it alright got the mini camp yeah knock down mini camp thanks to Big Witt it was easy right couple meetings and cancelled the rest it was great thanks coach there we go what what are you what are you most excited about coming to LA
1:01:53Y 'all heard it. They said it. You can say it again. Say it one more time. There we go. Winning a Super Bowl.
1:02:02Jason Kelce:Well, there's another guy that moved from Ohio and won a Super Bowl when he came out to L.A. and he's sitting right next to you. Long time Cincinnati Bengals. Big Whit. Whit, is there any player that was harder to block than the guy sitting right here? Listen, I am very thankful that I didn't have to take a lot of snaps against this guy. It's like this, Jason. You've gotten into golf. So, Miles, just bear with me here. You've gotten into golf. So there's no pictures on the scorecard, right? So here's how you treat it. You know this, right? If we've played one snap against you, then technically we can say we played against you.
1:02:36Yes, yes. Right? Yes. Right? So when people ask, I'm like, listen, luckily I got out of the league. I didn't have to play against Miles much. I did play him one time, and he got one rush against me. Thank God the quarterback got rid of the ball in a second and a half. But just like in golf, there's no pictures on the scorecard. So I can say that I did get to play against him and he didn't get a sack. Right. One time, one play for one second. So he's on the list. As I always said, there's always a list. Who you face that didn't actually get a stat. You're like, hey, you know, technically he's on the list, even though, you know, it's a very.
1:03:09Oh, for one. Oh, for one. You know what I mean? He still goes there, though.
1:03:13Jason Kelce:Well, it does appear, obviously all the fans are very happy that you're in LA. Another person very happy is Sean McVay. We have this photo. I don't think I've ever seen Sean McVay smile this year. That's so good. So good. Literally, the first day Miles comes in the building and they go do all their testing and all this, I call Sean. I'm like, hey, man, how are things going? Whatever. He's just glowing. And the first thing, everybody in the building, like this guy, the freak he is, as big as he is, as well as he can move, it's mind-boggling to watch this guy. I mean, when you watch him play as a tackle, it's reasons I say that I'm glad I'm not playing against this guy.
1:03:54For his size, his power, his ability to bend, to get off the line of scrimmage is extremely rare. It's not something you find every single day. So he is a rare human being who I know everybody in that building is really excited he's a part of this thing. Thank you.
1:04:10Jason Kelce:It really is mind-blowing. The way you bend the corner. It's not fair. Yeah, it really isn't. I still remember being with Joel Batonio up in – we had a joint practice with you guys. Yep. And after practice, Joel was like, can you believe that we're playing the same game as this dude? This is just like a completely different level athlete out here, and we're out here trying to – Jordan was having a great time. Yeah. Dude, that was – and Jordan is a great player. That was a rough practice for him. I mean, is there any tackle you look up in your – Who are the tackles that give you the biggest issues?
1:04:42Jason Kelce:Is that fair? Does anybody? Gives me – I don't think in the last two years I've looked at anyone on the schedule and be like, they're going to give me trouble. Yeah. That must feel good. Because they don't? Yeah. I mean, there are guys I have respect for. Of course. I respect Trent. I respect Jordan. Yeah. My matchups with Laramie. I mean, there are definitely guys I look and I'm like, alright this is going to be a fun one but if not anyone I look at I'm like I got to do something different yeah you're just going to play your game that's got to be me that's a great answer so back to Cleveland so let's talk about how great Cleveland is let's talk about how amazing Cleveland was for you no seriously have you been to the Rock Hall of Fame?
1:05:30as a kid from Cleveland and obviously to grow up being Browns fans I just want to say thank you for everything you did not only for that city on the field, but off the field. You're Walter Payton Man of the Year kind of guy. The stuff you've done in that community to really build that community and make sure they felt your presence, I've always appreciated that as a Clevelander myself. I know what kind of impact that has, and I just wanted to say thank you for that. But also, in terms of coming to L.A., have you met the scheme? Have you met the D coordinators? Have you met the scheme? Have you found out like are you gonna be doing crossovers on the center this year?
1:06:11We don't want to talk about that Slow it down. Just trying to get a game plan for Christmas They gotta gotta write some notes down. They say I'll be all over the tight end on Christmas
1:06:31Alright, so we're gonna multiple tight ends
1:06:36Jason Kelce:You guys do have an awesome defensive line room. We do. It is pretty crazy. I know, obviously, Vers and you swap, but there's still Kobe Turner. There's still Fist. There's still Young. Like, it is a very deep room. It's a special room. Yeah. Are you looking forward to working with all those guys? Yeah. I mean, everybody rock and roll. And, you know, when I met the D coordinator, Shula, he was like, you know, we don't want you to be anything different. You know, you be yourself. It's good coaching. You help lead the guy. Please. Just be you. Just be you. 23 sacks. It's just good. Hey, we went in the right direction.
1:07:09We're just firing you. Anything different. I'm just happy to go out there and be myself. I was worried they'll have me stand up and, you know, maybe drop one or two times. But, no, they said we're firing you at all times. Oh, thank God he's not going to cover me. No, seriously, out of the 23 sacks, the record-setting, record-breaking 23 sacks last year. of the 23 did you have a favorite oh i like this one did i have a favorite like was there one you got up when you're just like i'm cold as motherfucker that might have been all of the baltimore game chasing lamar's ass around is tough enough but getting him four times was great and so once i got him to put a fourth time i was like i'm feeling myself today yeah baby yeah there it is i can relate i once scored four touchdowns in one game they call that the al bundy yeah al bundy the old al bundy i scored a touchdown in a game oh you got a little i got a big six i have a tighty thick six yeah on offense um were you like uh eligible or did you come in as a tight end in pittsburgh on my birthday See, that's why you need to know the players' birthdays That's it, you gotta know You gotta know You got a veteran tackle and it's their birthday, you gotta know That's a good bet All of a sudden he's eligible Armbell should be going out Every week my birthday is up Coach Reed puts a play in the game plan called Catching Kelsey I won't tell any of you what that is Yeah, we wanna go there I mean, that's great for y 'all.
1:08:58We were trying to fight for contention to make the playoffs around my birthday. I'm glad they were planning something special. Not as much fun happening in Cleveland.
1:09:06Jason Kelce:We do have some photos. Miles, we got a photo of you at the Dodgers game. We put this one up there. Throwing out the first pitch. Hey, where did this come from, dog? Did you grow up playing baseball? You hummed that son of a bucket, man. I played like four games of baseball in my life. Are there any other L.A. bucket list items you're looking forward to knocking off? Bucket list items? Anything in L.A.? Venice Beach? Do not sit down on the park. Do not sit down on the park. I'm a nerd, bro. I want to go to, like, the observatory. Yeah? Yeah. I want to go to the Peterson-like car. I like that. Stuff like that.
1:09:42I want to take some hikes. I like taking my camera out. Yeah, got to get on the hikes. The hikes, that's it. Got to get some canyon shots, you know? Take some hikes. Why not? You've been inhabiting L.A. longer. Oh, yeah.
1:09:51Jason Kelce:What is the must do when you're in L.A.? Tokyo. Tokyo. All right. That came out of nowhere. Yeah, I like that. Why Little Tokyo? Little Tokyo. I love anime. I appreciate the shout out. See? There you go. Wait, is the anime different in Tokyo? Yeah. That's where it's from. Little Tokyo. Little Tokyo. Little Tokyo. Little anime. Nice. Don't forget the anime.
1:10:20Jason Kelce:That was good. That was good. We have another photo here.
1:10:27Jason Kelce:That was a good shot. So for those of you that don't know, this is Miles when he was in high school. Shut up. That's a goddamn grown man. Get his birth certificate. That's right. Wow. That was me with my starting offensive line. Wow. Well, I got to ask, this guy that's closest to you right here on your right, How far did he make it in football? Ben Jones. Did you call the guy all the way on the right red? Ben Jones. No question. These guys were killing it in 10th grade, I tell you. There's only four of them. Did you eat the fifth offensive lineman? Confused. Obviously, the guy next to me got to a Mavrocon.
1:11:15How many sacks did you have that year? 100?
1:11:19Jason Kelce:All right. 24 to be exact. We're going to move to a clip. We just brought this up a second ago because as every center looked in horror after this happened, we're going to put this one up real quick. Oh, God. Oh, no. Joe. Run, Joe. So, first of all, I want to give Ted Karras some shout-out. Like, Ted Karras, the center for the Bengals, great player. This is horrifying. At this point, you're screaming middle. Like, just help. Whatever you're going to do. I'm sliding this. Middle! Yes, yes. Apply back! Apply back! Everybody squeeze! Just tell everybody on the line. Guys, it's not that bad. Are you kidding me?
1:12:05Jason Kelce:What are you doing? You're playing basketball. I mean, I would just be like, what is happening? I can only imagine what's going on in Ted's head right now. Holy shit. That's what he said. I didn't see this on tape. I didn't see it once. He knows the snap count. He can play the game. I'm just happy. Snap count ain't helping him right there, I can tell you right now. Jason couldn't snap my own fucking hook shot. Nothing exudes confidence like doing crossovers right before the ball is snapped. You know, if I see that and I'm a center, the ball not getting snapped. Yeah. We're just going to test it.
1:12:35False start. False start.
1:12:36Jason Kelce:I missed the snap count, Coach. False start me. That's so true. What's crazy is that I've actually seen you. You play basketball a lot. I do. He's a big Hooper. I've seen him in a Cavaliers jersey and you literally look like a monster in a Cavaliers jersey. Like growing up, was that something that you felt like helped translate into the football field? Or did you seriously take basketball serious in terms of something that you wanted to pursue? I love basketball. That is my first love as far as sports. My dad played, my brother played professionally. So I grew up watching him, but also training with him and just working on my explosiveness, trying to dunk, but also that lateral quickness, getting from left to right with a defensive slide or that first step off a dribble.
1:13:24I think that all translates to Lisa, stuff like that. That's all we had to do. That man brought the Iverson crossover to the NFL. That's what was holding me back. That was it. We needed more of that, Jay. That's what it was. Put your kids in basketball, is what I heard. Yeah. Play it all, baby. Play it all. And baseball is easy, obviously. Whit, you're hitting a ball.
1:13:51Jason Kelce:Hitting a ball is the hardest thing in all sports. Yes, yes, yes. So thank you. We're trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball. Whit, you're a multi-sport athlete as well. Obviously, you golf now, but you were a tennis player growing up, right? I wasn't. I remember talking about this with you. Yeah. Are you a big multi-sport believer as well? I am a big multi-sport believer. The tennis tour is a little bit of a stretch, but listen. Listen, I won a tennis camp when I was like 11. I might have stretched that story a little bit to the stage director when I was at LSU. And when I went to the combine, teams started asking me about being a junior tennis champion.
1:14:23And I was like, shoot, I might have. Junior, I was the senior tennis champion. I might have stretched that story a little too much.
1:14:31Jason Kelce:No, you guys got to double down at that point. Yes, I am. Yeah, I was. Look it up. There's no records. All right, we have another video that we're gonna play. Oh, shit. We have more. I mean, you got a lot of good highlights. We got to use them. This is from a game. Holy shit. Bro, I'm mic'd up. I beat him on the clearest inside last year. Jordan! Jordan!
1:15:02Y 'all really be snitching like that, too. Oh, my God. Are you kidding me? Yeah.
1:15:06Jason Kelce:The funny thing is, too, and you know this. This fan's playing a different game, man. The only way he's getting that out that quick is if he knows he's going to get beat before it even happens. He's like, oh, crap, I'm one-on-one. Run, run, run! He's preemptively had that in his head. Like in Happy Gilmore when Happy's about to get hit by that little water beagle. Happy, watch out! That's it. You've got to scream. It does blow my mind how many teams I see not adjust game plans sometimes. I mean, most teams do, right? But the fact that you're getting any one-on-one matchups ever, why would you give somebody the opportunity to ruin a game?
1:15:44That was like my first of three singles in that game.
1:15:46Jason Kelce:Really? And we wasted it on him scrambling out and throwing it into the dirt. So you're kind of like Barry Bonds when they would just intentionally walk him all day. And then they throw to him one time. It's like, boom, oh, yeah, we're going to go back to walking him. I need one pitch. What would your game plan be against a rusher like this? probably spending a lot of time that week just yelling at the quarterback about where he was going to stand in the pocket every play and how fast the ball had to come out. Because I've got to have one way to win, right? So, all right, if he beats me around the edge all game, I'll take it.
1:16:18You just got to get the balls got to be out of your hand. So let's pick a depth and let's do it, right? So I'm all over the quarterback all week. That way, if I ever do get beat inside, I just scream his name like that. Because that means you're screwed. I hate it. I hate it when you guys are in sync. You know, if you beat a guy, you beat two guys, and you're like, all right, quarterback's thinking, I can stand wherever I want. But facing a guy like Drew Brees or like Joe, he's like, yo, I'm going to be at five yards. Just don't lose within five. It kills me. That's the whole point, Miles. You're not the quarterback.
1:16:52I'm already going through two, three guys. The least you can do is like stand at eight yards. That's not my problem.
1:16:58Jason Kelce:You know what's funny is AD used to do the same thing. AD would get mad at me. Yep. He'd be like, Kelsey, he's a grown man. Why are you coming over here and helping him? I'm like, I'm not going to let you ruin the game, Aaron. He's talking about it. He got a family and a mortgage. No, we got families and mortgages too. My kids got to eat too. Jason's got four of them things. So we did just bring up AD. Ooh, this is what I'm here for. Those of you that don't know AD, he's talking about Aaron Donald, the other MVP of the NFL, the other guy that also won a championship for the Rams and he's sacked God and keep going, Jason.
1:17:38Jason Kelce:Has there been any contact? Any correspondence? Yeah. Whoa. Don't do it. Oh, that's a Chiefs fan. Do it after December. Or just any other fan in the NFL. I don't want to press him. Why not? Because I want him to find. I'm pressing him full court. I'm just telling you all right now. Yeah. All right? That's why I'm with him every day. Now that I'm fully retired, I really want to see it. Are you just going to unleash this on everyone else? Yes. I'm going to watch in great happiness knowing that I am not out on the field trying to deal with that. Pretty fucked up, Jason. He walked away from the game feeling so fulfilled.
1:18:22He's like, man, I've done everything. I've won everything. I beat everybody. It's like, all right, I don't need anything more. If he looks up, he's like, huh, I might need another one. And he's like, MJ, you want to run it? Sure, why not? I mean, where was the Super Bowl last time he won it?
1:18:43I mean, go two for two at SoFi sounds kind of fun. I don't think he should come back. Why not? I think he's good, guys. I think he's good. He's hanging around, enjoying life. There's a lot to do. Look at Jason. Jason's out of the house doing shit. He's dunking. A lot of shit you can do. Yeah, he's dunking. He's never done it before. Playing goalies, soccer. He's chasing. That's what Aaron's doing. He's done everything in the NFL.
1:19:04Jason Kelce:There are two people I think of that when people ask me routinely, like, who are the toughest people you blocked? Thankfully, I never had to block you. Very happy about that. Aaron Donald really didn't have to block him either. I was double-teaming with a guard almost every single time. You are the two players who really have been the most game-changing defensive linemen in this era of football. To think that both of you might be on the same line, With the rest of that fucking Rams defensive line. Not fair. It's not like everybody else is just like chopped liver. Our other guys are special. Fucking dogs, yeah.
1:19:39Jason Kelce:We got to start teaming up as linemen. I don't think anybody would be at all as feared as what's happening. Zero. Good chance. Jason and Big Witt, if Aaron Donald comes out, you guys got to come and play for the Chiefs.
1:19:58Jason Kelce:you already got a good center you don't need no more help at center can we just bring water to everybody my insurance is up after this year so that's a big milestone you're five i lose my health insurance i mean just tell andy you know what i mean one game i do i do want to know because obviously 23 fucking sacks you've been a game changer since you're the first overall fucking pick who was it on the d lines in the in growing up did you model your game after or who did you take things from um where did it all start to where you really got the wheels turning you were like oh man i can do this if i just you know do something that he does or take from this person and that person or was it all just like i'm gonna fucking cross over everybody um von miller yeah there you go i still think von miller is the most aesthetically pleasing pass rusher i've ever seen as far as like what he can do how he like orientates his body the ghost ghost rush i mean he can do pretty much any move.
1:21:11And if he didn't have the injuries that he had, he would still be leading the NFL for his tenure as far as sacks. Von was like a cat. I got to answer that bell numerous times and I did not answer that bell very well. Von Miller's a motherfucker, man. He can, like you were talking about how this guy can bend Von, had power and agility. He had the whole bit. Not to say he doesn't anymore. And he's great dude. He ended up torturing me for my first probably six years of my career. And then came over to me one day, shook my hand. I was like, man, he's a nice guy. He had the glasses on. He wanted to talk about chicken.
1:21:54There you go. Yeah, he's got the chicken. Loves his chicken farm. That's for sure. Can I ask him a question? Please. So Miles, talk to me. In your short time in LA, right? You've only been in the locker room and in the building a little bit. what's been your takeaway so far of coming to this place like you come obviously a place a lot of people think a lot of expectations this team even before you got there just your your impressions like of sean of the of the building of the kind of what you've experienced well first i'll say you know they they were telling me that la isn't a football town but the reception we've been getting it's amazing so thank you secondly the environment in that building is second to none And like the way those guys rally around each other, the chemistry that they have, the work ethic, like you see it every day.
1:22:42And, you know, they know exactly who they are and know what their expectations are for this year. And it's like they're locked and loaded. And they looked at me as just another bullet in the gun and we're ready to go. I love it. Makes me excited. Yeah. Miles, before we get you out of here, we always ask all of our first time guests, man, what was their welcome to the NFL moment? You've probably had a bunch of moments that was everybody else's welcome to the NFL moment. But was there a welcome to the NFL moment, good or bad, or, you know, just life-changing for you? Welcome to the NFL moment. I wouldn't say there was like a play where somebody just whipped my ass, but I remember I was going against Taylor LeJuan.
1:23:28It was my first year, and I knew he was bending the rules a little bit, you know, from what I had heard.
1:23:36Jason Kelce:Smart player, smart player, smart player. We call that a wily veteran in the O-line room. We line up, and it's like first and ten. And I line up tight. I know the run's coming. They got freaking Derrick Henry at that time. And he, you know, gets into a stance. He looks at me and spits right in my face. Wow. Whoa. Welcome right to the NFL. And I was like, I promise. Next time I see you, I'm going to whip your ass. Damn. Wow. That's Taylor. Sounds like Taylor. Yeah, bro. There goes that. There's Taylor. Very crazy story. I got to go. Sorry that happened. One day we hear Taylor LeJuan's dead outside the street.
1:24:22We know what happened, right? We finally found him.
1:24:25Jason Kelce:Is that intentional? You did that on accident. Well, outside of that, what's something a tackle does that really gives them the best chance of blocking you? God, thank God. Is it getting off the ball? Is it holding? What about a tight end? I'm starting to question these questions. I'm just curious. I don't know what's happening here. Well, you have been world traveling. Let me switch it out of football. You have been world traveling. What is some of the funnest stuff that you've done just this year alone overseas? We've kind of seen you all over the place. But just in terms of this offseason, before you came back and shocked the world with the move to the Rams, what have you been enjoying the most out of this offseason?
1:25:06I was...
1:25:09Jason Kelce:What is it? What did you say? Chloe Kim. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. There we go. Yeah. Went to the Olympics. Was in Italy for the first time. Ooh. There we go. Watch her do amazing. I was so proud of her. It was entirely too stressful being on the other side of things. You're behind the camera. You're taking shots and you're like freezing up because you're like, yo, she's 20 feet in the air. She's coming so close to this freaking edge. I'm going to have to run out there. I'm sliding down the half pipe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it was way too stressful, but she did amazing. We were all so proud. Woo! Yeah, baby.
1:25:52Hell yeah. Hell yeah. And then we went to Japan and Korea together.
1:25:58Jason Kelce:That's awesome. This brings up another conversation that I've seen your name involved with. Basketball. Yeah. I am very much on record that I think that basketball players could assimilate to football easier than football players could go to basketball. You're one of the names I see brought up a lot that people think that you could go play in the NBA. Do you think you could play in the NBA? If I lost about 30 pounds to keep up with the conditioning, absolutely. I think I could cut that and do that within a year. Have you seen this guy jump? I have no question that he could do it. Yeah. I've seen the in-between-the-legs dunk.
1:26:32Jason Kelce:I just don't see. I don't see. I'm going to shut this down right now. We cannot liability ways take on him trying to dunk. That is not happening. All right, we've had schematic questions, and now we're trying to get him injured. There is not a chance I'm letting that one go. I will block it. I will block that. I wasn't booked for a skit today. I'm sorry. Yes, yes, yes. Jason, I think he might be the anomaly. Huh? In the football world, I think he might be the anomaly that could do both. Yeah. There are more athletic specimens as far as explosiveness and being able to move in a variety of ways in the NFL.
1:27:10I mean, we take our vertical tests flat-footed, and we're usually higher than the guys in the NBA. And I'm not saying that's all there is.
1:27:17Jason Kelce:Everybody short-arming that vertical test. You know that, Miles. You know the trick. Short-arming it by eight inches. That's fair. But you see all these athletic freaks, and even though they're usually like, I mean, you see DK, he's 6 '5". You see me, I'm 6 '5", but you see, you know, DBs who are jumping 47, 46, and they're 6 '1", 6 '0". You tell me those guys, if you didn't give them enough training with a basketball, couldn't go out there and be maybe a six-man or a rotational guy? I just don't believe Marcus Smart can line up in the three tech or the five and do what I'm doing I think Marcus is playing a lot like Taylor LeJuan though he's doing some I got respect for Marcus he didn't grow up far from where I was born I'm running through his fucking face there you have it ladies and gentlemen Miles Garrett and Andrew Whitworth
1:28:23you guys enjoy the show tonight
1:28:29Jason Kelce:I got it I know I did guys I cannot thank you enough for coming out here and witnessing me dunked for the first time. Are you kidding, Ezra?
1:28:41Jason Kelce:Really quick, before we get out here, we have some things to wrap up. I do want to give a quick shout-out. This night would not have been possible without Enterprise and Xfinity for sponsoring this show. Thank you so much. 1:29:18The last time I was in L.A., Jason and I went down the street, and I was a very picky eater. And there was a bit that came out on New Heights not too long ago about how I liked airplane noises when I ate. Yeah, it's kind of fucked up, actually. Like I was a child. A child getting fed food. So we have a fun clip for you here.
1:29:40Jason Kelce:I feel like, and we won't use this in the episode, but I feel like Taylor has definitely expanded your... I gotta use it. We can fucking use it. There's nothing wrong with that. I feel like... Have you grown up? Has she done wrong with it? He's more adventurous with food. Yeah, I'm not trying to act like one of the men when I'm around her and eating foods I haven't tried before. When she does the little airplane noises, I like it.
1:30:03Well, what if it's an airplane in its head?
1:30:09Zoom. It's landing. It landed safely. I want to see you, Brandon. LA, we love you guys!

92%ers, welcome to another episode of New Heights live from Los Angeles!
On this very special episode, we are joined by Will Ferrell to get his take on all things LA, why he’s taking over golf with “The Hawk,” and we’ll see if he can finally help Jason dunk a basketball.
We’ve also got US Women’s Soccer legends, Alex Morgan and Kelley O’Hara! We get their take on the US hosting the World Cup, what it’s really like to play for the national team, and they’ll take some penalty kicks against maybe the greatest center turned goalie in US Soccer history.
And finally, we’re in the Rams house, so we had to get our guy, Andrew Whitworth, and the newest LA Ram, Myles Garrett, to stop by. We find out how Myles feels about the trade, what he’s looking forward to in LA, relive some of his best highlights, maybe find out if he’s got anyone else coming to join him on the d-line, and so much more!
Thank you again to all the incredible 92%ers that made it out to the show! We’ll see you at the next one.
