In short
The host reacts to a former Bravo personality, Jennifer Welsh, calling for people who voted for Trump to be banned from Mexican (and other) restaurants, and pivots to a broader argument about immigration enforcement and voting.
Guest backgrounds
Jennifer Welsh is described as a former Bravo reality TV star.
Key claims
The host argues Mexican food is “American food,” criticizes Welsh’s boycott/body-shaming rhetoric (e.g., “go to Cracker Barrel”), and says the real issue is enforcing immigration law rather than targeting immigrants. He claims many restaurant workers are not “illegal by choice,” but that people who came legally understand illegal immigration as cheating. He also says DHS deportation efforts are “stupid but effective,” and blames voters for electing Democrats who “can’t fight.”
Notable examples
Welsh’s rant about banning “triple Trump” voters from Mexican/Chinese/Indian restaurants; the host’s “Cisco Mex” restaurant sameness analogy; “Cracker Barrel” as the alternative.

Now that doesn't make any sense, does it? If there's one thing we should all be able to agree on in this country, it's that Mexican food is American food because it's actually the best damn food on the planet. No, that's not even debatable. It's the universal truth that stretches so far beyond the realm of facts that it renders all facts meaningless and void. Former Bravo reality TV star Jennifer Welsh went on an expletive-filled rant demanding people who voted three times for President Trump be banned from Mexican and Chinese restaurants.
0:39Really, yes, we have the audio, but I think I want to talk about Mexican food here for a minute first. Salsa is usually a pretty good indicator of where your meal is about to go. Not always, but most of the time. And I've always made it a point to try as many different Mexican food joints as possible, even though at least half of them are the same. Unfortunately, I call it Cisco Mex. You know, the kind of food that shows up on the same Cisco truck to most of the restaurants in your town where everybody thinks they're getting different food everywhere they go? If you look close, you'll see that a lot of Mexican restaurants across any town USA have exactly the same menu, even if it's printed a little differently in each place.
1:16I mean, don't get me wrong. If you have a good chef, even Cisco food can be elevated into something halfway decent. But I always look for those original gangstas who do it a little differently by making their own salsa, especially if they push the spicy stuff. That's always a green flag. If they're making their own tortillas and chips, you know you're in for the real deal. I judge Mexican food largely based on their basic chicken street taco offerings. If it's not exploding with flavor and texture, I won't order it again, but I'll probably still come back now. If I order a cheese enchilada a la carte and it tastes like a Cisco tortilla and Cisco enchilada sauce, I'm never coming back.
1:51That is, unless your margaritas are absolutely fire, which could be another entire show in and of itself. Because a properly crafted margarita to me is one of the most sublime experiences on the planet. While a bad one can make you feel like you just drank a glass of hummingbird food, a perfect margarita is never so syrupy sweet that it triggers a diabetic coma. And if you can't taste that distinct flavor aroma of the tequila, they could be pre-mixing that swill behind the counter. Throw that shit in the garbage where it belongs.
2:21Because a perfect margarita is bright and inelegant and mild sweetness and just a little frothy on the way down as it should have been shaken on ice, never stirred. If it's anything less, I might still return if your cheese enchiladas, street tacos, or chips and salsa were adequate, assuming that's all I can get. But sometimes there's a Mexican place that can do all of these things and even more. And those are the ones I generally stay loyal to. And they're usually owned and run by real Mexicans. And I get to know the servers to the point where I don't even have to order. They just bring my usual.
2:53It's heaven on earth. You know, sometimes we talk. They know what I do. And every now and then Trump comes up and I don't even bring it up. They do. And guess what? They're not exactly MAGA, but they're not exactly against the ice raids that they see on TV either. It's really complicated. And this isn't really about Mexicans or Mexican food. It's about enforcing the law. And whether you like it or not, a lot of these immigrants working in these restaurants that so many of us hold near and dear to our hearts and stomachs don't want illegal immigrants gaming the system any more than you do. Most of them fought harder than you or I ever had to just to be here, and they have no fear of deportation because they did it the right way.
3:32That's the reality in most situations, not the sob story exception that the left loves to parade around to pull at your heart strings. They've been here for 30 years, just let them stay. Really? If they've been here for 30 years illegally, then they've been stealing from you for 30 years. People who come here legally understand that. Why don't you? Now, that's not to say that Trump's DHS isn't just as much of a big, dumb and bloated form of government as when it's run by Democrats, because it absolutely is. It just might be much more effective, but just as stupid. Now, with all of that in mind, that's quite a big setup here.
4:06Former Bravo reality TV show star Jennifer Welch. I think we're using the term star there loosely. Anyway, here's her take on this situation. Listen to this. I've had it with white people that triple Trumped. Yeah. That have the nerve and the audacity to walk into a Mexican restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, an Indian restaurant, go to perhaps their gay hairdresser. Okay. So what about my gay Mexican friend who voted for Trump twice? What should I tell them? I don't think you should be able to enjoy anything but cracker barrel. And if you want to triple Trump, and you want to browbeat DEI, and you want to browbeat gay people, and you want to browbeat black people as you've been doing for 400 years, and you want to browbeat this generation of immigrants that come over here and open up businesses earnestly, pay their taxes, white people that triple Trump should be banned, boycotted from enjoying the best thing that America has to offer, which is multiculturalism.
5:11Get your fat ass out of the Mexican restaurant. Get your fat ass over to Cracker Barrel. Who is this lady here? Not that it matters. I mean, everybody's got an opinion and all of them are just as equally valid as the next, depending on who's consuming it. Get your fat ass out of the Mexican restaurant. Get your fat ass over to Cracker Barrel. Since when was the tolerant left so into body shaming? What changed with that? And can we please knock it off with this stupid tribalist hack bullshit that says you can only spend your money with people who think and vote exactly like you do? Look, I don't agree with Trump's heavy-handed approach to deporting illegals either, but what did you expect to happen when you let the dog back into the house?
5:45Maybe next time you won't elect the kind of people who thought it would be a good idea to put up an inexperienced hack like Kamala Harris for the highest office in the land. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree? If you don't like how Trump and DHS are doing immigration roundups, then show up to the voting booth more often and quit electing Democrats who don't know how to fight their way out of a wet paper bag. The people put that dog, Donald Trump, back in the White House because liberalism has a woke, hive mind problem that it just can't shake and they're still in denial. As if the average citizen is just sitting around at home obsessing about their race and gender all day long.
6:21As if race and gender have any meaningful value, you know, beyond fueling this demographic narcissism tribal feedback loop. That's how I honestly feel about people who find the need to celebrate their sexuality or their race or their religion for that matter. As far as I'm concerned, identity politics are just another religion. The religion of atheists. Not that there aren't brain-dead liberal religious folks out there. I know there are a lot of them, just, you know, generally speaking, because that's what I do. Welcome to that bumper sticker mentality they warn you about. But sometimes, if you can't say it in a few words, you shouldn't be saying it to begin with.
6:52To quote Charles Bukowski, an intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way. Well, I'm certainly not an intellectual, so consider me an artist, I guess? I don't know. Or we could always try the Einstein variant. If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. God, there's so much truth in that. I live in that tension between explaining simple things in a complex way and explaining complicated ideas with elegant simplicity, if I'm going to toot my own horn. But here's the thing. The intellectual crowd has a lot more responsibility to speak in ways regular people can actually digest.
7:25Because from where I sit, that's who's failing society right now. the educated class that never learned how to have a conversation with normal human beings. I know what a concept, right? I'm talking about the professional eggheads with best of intentions, zero results, and no idea why whatsoever. Because nobody on Main Street can understand a damn thing they're saying. And that's precisely how we end up with unqualified goons like Donald Trump walking into the White House twice. If you want to win elections, stop telling everybody that race and gender are the only things that are important. And remember the words of James Carville that put Bill Clinton in office twice.
7:59It's the economy, stupid. Anything beyond that is just noise. And until we can do it again, it's Newsweek Radio. I'm Jesse Edwards. Catch you next time. Bye. And we say bye-bye. Newsweek Radio is a member of the Trust Project. No junta frases. No sabe lo que pasa.
