Key Themes and Discussions

The Current State of the Conservative Movement

  • Trump's Position: Despite deteriorating health, Trump remains a central figure in conservative politics. Edwards argues that no one within the GOP has the capability to replace him.
  • Conspiracy Theories: A significant portion of the right is influenced by conspiracy theories, complicating the political landscape.

Trump's Silence and Strategic Calculations

  • Condemnation of Allies: Trump refrains from condemning Tucker Carlson for his association with Nick Fuentes, fearing backlash from a substantial part of his base.
  • Potential Disruption of Power: Speculative scenarios are presented about Trump's possible maneuvers to maintain power, including extreme measures like declaring martial law.

Internal Conflicts within the GOP

Blame and Responsibility

  • Collective Accountability: Edwards emphasizes that both sides of the political aisle share responsibility for the current political climate. He criticizes the left for embracing fringe ideologies while blaming the right for legitimizing harmful conspiracy theories.

A Call to Action

  • Rejecting Extremism: The host urges conservatives to distance themselves from Trumpism and return to principled conservatism.
  • Hope for Real Change: Edwards expresses a desire for a return to rational and compassionate conservatism that addresses real issues without resorting to conspiracy theories.

Key Takeaways

  • Conservative Division: There is a clear division within the conservative movement, which is becoming increasingly polarized.
  • For Trump, Not for the Party: Trump's actions are seen as serving his personal interests rather than those of the party or the country.
  • Need for Change: A genuine effort to reform the conservative movement could be vital for its survival beyond Trump's influence.

Conclusion The episode encapsulates the chaotic state of the GOP as it grapples with its identity and future in the wake of Trump's presidency. Edwards advocates for a return to genuine conservative values and highlights the necessity for forgiveness and unity among conservatives to move forward.

0:00News Talk Opinion Satire, it's Newsweek Radio, I'm Jesse Edwards, and the rift on the right is fascinating. My favorite part just happens to be how it doesn't include Trump, because all of my conservative friends are beginning to forecast the future of their movement, and it's becoming clear that there's nobody among them who can replace Agent Orange as he begins to deteriorate like the ghost of Joe Biden before our very own eyes. Another major complication, of course, is that half the right wing is infected with a conspiracy theory brain rot that was intended to be used for entertainment purposes only, not as the party platform.

0:35And it's important to remember that the rift on the right goes all the way to the top, because ultimately the buck stops with the president here just as much as it does anywhere else. And the one thing that everyone is waiting for on the MAGA side of the aisle is for Trump himself to weigh in on the issue. Now Trump and Tucker have had a few disagreements lately, but that does not mean that Trump is automatically going to denounce Tucker for his interview with Nick Fuentes, our favorite Mexican white supremacist. So far, Trump has yet to mention any of this on social media or elsewhere. There have been clear friction points between Trump and Tucker since June of this year over foreign policy, especially Israel.

1:14When Tucker Carlson accused President Trump of abandoning America first by supporting Israel, Trump publicly slapped back saying, quote, I decide what America first means, unquote. Trump knows that if he condemns Tucker Carlson over the Nick Fuentes interview, a third of his base will evaporate instantly. But he also saw what happened to Kevin Roberts over at Heritage. And he knows that he could lose half of his base if he supports Tucker Carlson. So I'm guessing that's why Trump isn't going to say anything about it. I mean, why bother when you have nothing to lose? Trump can't even hold onto the office if he wanted to because his body is starting to fail him.

1:48But he still could declare martial law after starting a fake war with Venezuela and let J.D. Vance take over. If I feel like Trump has a really good chance of winning, that I might have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton. I mean, all it would take is a perfect alignment of failures. A president willing to break the rules, a vice president and congressional majority willing to help, swing state officials refusing to certify election results, and courts delaying or declining to intervene, and military law enforcement leadership choosing to follow unconstitutional orders rather than resist?

2:19Tell me you don't see that that's what Trump has in his pocket already. I mean, it's a low probability scenario, but each of those independent guardrails bent at the same time, even briefly, a determined goon like Donald Trump could try to claim an ongoing emergency authority and disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. I mean, it's a 1 in 100 shot, but I'm willing to bet he's going to take a few swings at it because he already did on January 6th. All I can say is you better prepare yourselves for the craziest election season you've ever seen because the race for 2028 is on already. apparently.

2:52And to be honest, I really don't even care too much about what happens or who gets into office as long as Trump is out of the picture. I've got a bottle of Dom with Don's name on it that I'm saving for that last helicopter ride out of D.C. that happens for the second time. I had a$12 bottle the last time he left the White House, so this time my wife and I are planning to celebrate in style. So naturally, a lot of us are left wondering what's going to be left of the conservative movement when Trump retires tomorrow loco. And Marjorie Taylor Greene has led all the QAnon gripers off to Jewish space laser land like the Pied Piper of politics.

3:27Why don't you go talk about Jewish space lasers and really why don't you f*** off? How about that? Who's going to be left after that? Ted Cruz? Chris Christie? Ron DeSantis? Give me a break. I hope Nikki Haley actually gets a fair shot this time around. Not that I'm a big fan of everything she says or does, but at least she acts like a straight shooter. Even if she did ultimately kiss Donald Trump's ring with her endorsement. I think people would forgive her for that. You do remember forgiveness, right? You know, one of those classic Christian virtues that doesn't seem to own a lot of real estate in today's politics.

3:59Or do they? I mean, the left certainly seems willing and able to forgive Marjorie Taylor Greene on her blind Trump worship. Are they going to do the same for everybody else who denies the name of the GOP Christ figure, Trump? I think it's important that we do forgive people who have been misled by Trump, because there's going to be more and more of them as the middle class goes broke over the next few years. All the Democrats need for landslide victories is to promise to cut the cost of living in half. It doesn't even really matter if they can live up to those promises because they can't. They just have to keep talking about it long enough for people to believe them because if you repeat a lie often enough, it can become the truth.

4:34Because we want to believe that someone in government is going to fix the problem. The problem is that government is the problem, and it's not going to get any better until we the people do something about it. Until we the people start taking some responsibility for the way things are right now. If this is truly a representative government, then aren't we at least partially to blame for the way our country is being run right now? And there is plenty of blame to go around. I blame the left for enabling this administration to exist in the first place by, I don't know, turning their party platform into DEI, CRT, and ESG conspiracy theory world nonsense.

5:08I also place a lot of blame on the right for supporting this administration at the cost of legitimizing their own brand of conspiracy theory, Holocaust deniers, Hitler worshipers, and Jew haters. Clowns to the left of us, jokers to the right, here we are, the American people stuck in the middle with you, and we are sick of it. Who do we blame? We blame everyone, ourselves included. One could even argue that I deserve more blame than most because I've been helping platform the far right for the last 25 years of my career, but I've also secretly helped platform some far lefties too. I've got no problem with that.

5:40But I think we've been looking for that line in the sand on the conservative side for a long time where the sane, principled, and relatively rational conservatives, I'll underline relatively, part ways with those unique folks who think that lizard people are controlling the world. Yes, to the deep conspiracy nut, it's even bigger than Jews because they think the lizard people are controlling the Jews and the one world order to, you know, harvest our souls. I'm not even kidding. It's like a Scientologist-level fever dream when you follow down that QAnon-style rabbit hole. So if you had to decide right now, which side would you say that you're on personally?

6:17If this is where the line must be drawn, I'd say so be it. As a bonafide libertarian, technically the right-wing isn't really my camp. But I would happily side with the Zionists and Christians over the conspiracy crowd any day. Because conspiracy theories are supposed to be just fundamental exercises to determine the unlikely but plausible scenarios in your head, and sometimes out loud. Bring back the compassionate conservatives who understood that it doesn't make any sense to throw out the good, decent, and hardworking illegal immigrants because they're not part of the problem. You were supposed to focus on the bad guys, which is what Trump promised.

6:50And if it doesn't make your stomach turn to see ICE ripping a child away from their parents and deporting them, then I really don't know what kind of Christian you can call yourself because that's not the kind of Christianity I was raised with. And look, a lot of Christians, some people I even know, love, and care about deeply just don't see it yet. But they're starting to. And I think it's because they replaced God with Trump. Because they liked him so much that they've turned him into their idol and they don't even realize it. Their golden calf. That doesn't mean that I hate them. They've just made a terrible, terrible mistake.

7:21Twice. But it's going to be the time to forgive a lot of them soon as they hopefully come to their senses and admit out loud that Donald Trump was not a conservative, but rather just another opportunist grifter of a politician that convinced half of the country that he wasn't even a politician to begin with. I mean, a billionaire outsider? Are you kidding me? No, Trump isn't exactly the system, but he is a pretty nasty byproduct of the system. I mean, he said it himself that he is your retribution. I am your retribution. I am your retribution. Now you've let this jokester set the stage for every wokester in America to use the same paths that he's paved against conservatives.

8:02You just watch those Democrats come after your guns now. Now that they feel empowered by Trump's blatant disregard for the law, policy, and precedent. And now they're freaking out because Mom Donnie is the mayor of New York. We just witnessed the Republicans flinch in mass because they know what's coming. Conservatives effed around by playing grab ass with Trump for the last decade, and now they're about to find out that there are unequal but opposite reactions in politics where overcorrection has become the name of the game. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas thinks that the moderate Republicans are really happy right now and that that is why Democrats are winning.

8:41Last night should be a warning sign. It should be a warning sign to Republicans across this country. The left, They're energized. They're angry. Democrats are outraising Republicans right now, three to one, four to one. It is dangerous. And I think on our side, they're Republicans and they're just people who are common sense in the middle, who I fear are feeling happy, are feeling potentially complacent. That is really, really dangerous. The left showed up in big numbers last night and common sense conservatives did not. If that happens a year from now, we face disaster in the midterm. You think that Republicans are in trouble because the moderates are happy right now?

9:23Are feeling happy, are feeling potentially complacent. I think you've got it backwards, Senator Cruz. If Democrats are now out-raising Republicans four to one, as you suggest, then I would suggest kindly that it's not because the moderate base is happy. Are feeling happy. I'm going to go ahead and go out on a limb and say that it's because the common sense middle are not happy or complacent with how things are going. And that's why they've stopped giving Donald Trump their hard-earned cash. And if all the cash has truly dried up as you've suggested, Senator Cruz, then I'd suggest you hold onto your seat as tightly as you can, both figuratively and literally.

10:02Because the conservative America First crowd is not happy with the way Trump 2.0 is going. The right-wing conspiracy space laser base is not happy with the way Trump 2.0 is going. And the sane moderate Republicans are not happy with the way Trump 2.0 is going. I mean, who the hell else is left? That must be that one out of four who's still giving money to Trump that you're talking about, Senator Cruz. That rebellious band of blind Trump cult followers are all Trump has left. But fear not, because I might be the only one left in America who still believes that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Donald Trump was not only the worst president in American history, but that he was quite possibly the worst American in American history.

10:45Because he does nothing but put himself before the country. And now he's put himself before the party and his own base just to line his pockets a little bit more before he kicks the bucket. I'm sure he'll have no problem securing that Nobel Prize before his final curtain. Look, we all know that Trump cannot take any of this with him, but he's going to continue to lie, cheat, and steal until his dying breath because a grifter's got a grift. It's what they do. He can't help himself. The only thing he's got left going for him is playing DJ at his lavish dinner parties where people stand around applauding his music choice as if he were the artist himself, serenading everybody with his contemporary hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

11:22Look, it's not too late to leave that dinner party to save a little face. Go ahead, kick Donald Trump to the curb so the rest of us can see that you've come to your senses and all can be forgiven. Reject Trumpism. Be a real conservative. to return to your God and denounce this degenerate charlatan once and for all. Should I tell you what I really think? Well, maybe next time, because we are out of time.
