0:00You're listening to Newsweek Radio. Irreverent news talk and opinion without agenda. From the 72nd floor of One World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. This is Newsweek Radio with your host, Jesse Edwards.

0:40I just so happen to believe that he might be listening to this very podcast. And I also happen to believe he's the greatest living broadcaster, if not the best of all time, next to guys like, you know, Rush Limbaugh, Art Bell, maybe Wolfman Jack. I had the pleasure of being Savage's fill-in board operator once in a while back in the early 2000s, which means I had to push all the buttons and play all the music and then the ads and the three-hour-long show that went out to the satellite and broadcast live to somewhere around 700 radio stations across the country. That was all before podcasting took over the business.

1:06Savage was easily my favorite because one minute he'd just be shredding, some left-wing nutjob who dared to call into the show, and then giving some old-school meatball recipes from back in the day the next, or screaming at some idiot callers who forgot to turn down their radio when they got on the phone with him. That created a feedback loop that tossed a wrench into the entire show. But it was always fun to hear Michael getting mad for some reason. Somewhere along the way, we were led to believe that anger was never an acceptable way to react to anything, and every once in a while we see someone like Savage who clearly doesn't care what people think.

1:36And I think it's beautiful. It's art. It's psychological nudity, as he used to call it, and probably still does. I actually emailed Savage the other day and asked him if he'd join us here on Newsweek Radio, and he politely declined, which is understandable. He certainly doesn't need my help to promote what he's doing, but he's still out there killing it at 83 years old, which is beautiful to see. But back to the story, Savage has his own list of grievances with Trump from a conservative perspective. That's different than mine, but here's the seven points. Trump is escalating the Russia-Ukraine war instead of defusing it.

2:05That's where I disagree with Dr. Savage, because Trump is finally on the right side of history on this topic, and I think we should support him accordingly. Because Russia started this fight, and Vladimir Putin's a KGB thug that needs to be stopped at all costs. Savage also accuses Trump of pushing a bloated pork barrel spending bill through Congress, which I couldn't agree more. Says that Trump attacked Elon Musk for calling out the hidden Epstein list. Yeah, not only did he call out Elon Musk, he also called conservatives who believe in the Epstein scandal stupid. Some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try and do the Democrats' work.

2:39They're stupid people. Savage is also criticizing Trump for firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics for refusing to back down on those jobs reports. Trump's unconditional support to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his accepting of a plane from Qatar that may cost nearly$1 billion to renovate. That and building a gilded ballroom on the side of the White House. These are all points that Savage is correctly attacking Donald Trump for because it's becoming apparently clear to a lot of us that Donald Trump has gone on the globalist gravy train. I'd like to suggest he's always been there, and this was just a giant scam to make people think that he was actually a populist, when in reality he's been a deep state opportunist the entire time.

3:18Because Donald Trump is the elite. Donald Trump is the establishment. He always has been and always will be. Now, Savage isn't exactly part of the conspiracy right, but he's absolutely a free thinker, and I think there's a big difference that I won't get into here. I know a lot of folks think that Savage is an extremist, and he might be on some level compared to you or I, but he's an ideas guy and ideas guys should be extreme. Otherwise, what's the point? What's the point of sharing mediocre and safe opinions that don't do anything to stir the pot? If you're not saying something thought provoking, you're probably not that good of a talk show host, which means you'll need to have on a bunch of guests just to help you make the show run, which can still be good in its own way if that's what you're into.

3:56But a lot of us prefer a considerable amount of bite to go with the opinions we consume. That's why Savage was always my favorite broadcaster and probably always will be. Controversial? Absolutely. It's part of the job and he's better at it than anybody. You want to hear something fun? Of course you do. I'm going to play something for you here. A blast from the past that I'm guessing is from around the year 2005. I spent all day as a radio producer at the network carefully stitching together the words of then President Obama to make what sounds like he was endorsing Savage's book at the time. In a somewhat comical way, I even get a shout out from Savage himself.

4:30Oh, play Obama's advertisement for trickle-down tyranny. This was just not released by the White House. Listen. Hello, I'm Barack Obama. If you haven't already, I hope you get a chance to read Trickle-down tyranny by Dr. Michael Savage. It's an American classic, and it's one of my family's favorites. Trickle-down tyranny highlights the importance of borders, language, and culture, and threats posed to the United States by my administration. God. Jesse did that as a joke this morning, So if they come gunning for me, I hope they get Jesse first. Jesse, I wouldn't suggest you visit within the 300 mile radius of the city of Chicago.

5:11I would say you should avoid that unless you go in Mufti. Of course, I'm going to talk about my history with Michael Savage when I see his name pop up in one of our headlines. Are you kidding me? It's like a badge of honor. Here's the next trending headline at Newsweek.com. Obama grand jury convening in Florida would be major boost for Trump. the Department of Justice's federal grand jury case to investigate Obama administration officials over their 2016 assessment of Russian election interference could take place in Florida, which would likely provide a more favorable legal environment for the DOJ.

5:42Attorney General Pam Bondi has authorized federal prosecutors to investigate statements and testimony from Obama administration officials regarding alleged ties between President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia, directly targeting when Trump has long labeled the Russia hoax while potentially diverting attention from renewed scrutiny over the Jeffrey Epstein files. We just can't get away from it, can we? Well, I could tell you right now, that's not going to work. You don't need to have a degree in political science to see that this is absolutely going to backfire and only serve to further engulf Donald Trump in the Epstein fire that is so far 0 % contained.

6:16Yeah, with this dozen or so depositions over the coming months between the Clintons and seemingly every attorney general from the last 20 years, these people have more than enough on their plates, and we are primed for the perfect political storm. Everybody can see that bringing Russiagate into the mix is an obvious and incredibly desperate attempt to change the subject that only makes Trump look even more unnecessarily guilty than he's already made himself at this point. And it all started with that predictably epic falling out with Elon Musk, who then dropped the bombshell that Trump is on the list.

6:46Trump could have quietly laughed all of this off, quite possibly, but he just kept running his mouth and making the problem worse because he's a moron. If Trump would have simply listened to the advice from his own crisis management people, he might have squeaked out of this unscathed. But Trump doesn't listen to anybody, and as soon as those cameras are rolling in the press, who he supposedly hates, he starts flapping his liver-spotted lips in the wind like chicken skin going on about teenage girls disappearing from Mar-a-Lago. This is not an intelligent person. All he had to do was write Elon Musk off as a crazed drug addict who peed himself in the White House and people would have forgotten all about it.

7:22Instead, President Dumbass here can't resist digging himself in deeper into this hole because he can't resist the spectacle of the limelight, even when he's potentially and probably incriminating himself. Investigating the Obama administration for the way you were kissing Putin's ass publicly is asinine, Mr. President. Next headline in Newsweek, Trump says J.D. Vance probably favored to take over MAGA. Recent polling shows Vice President J.D. Vance leading the pack of potential 2028 Republican presidential contenders. Yeah, just wait until Trump and J.D. Vance have a falling out that makes his fight with Elon Musk look like a trip to Disneyland in comparison.

7:57You know, J.D. might not seem like he's taken seriously right now, but just give it some time and be honest. Can you think of anyone on the left right now who might be capable of beating J.D. in 28? Screw the midterms. I'm a lot more interested in the big fight at this point, mainly because it marks the end of Donald Trump's era. But who on the left could rise to the occasion? I think it will be Gavin Newsom. Gavin, at least, seems like a better car salesman than J.D. On the other hand, he's very California slick, which is probably going to turn off a lot of Midwestern voters who would likely back J.D.

8:27at that point anyway. AOC is not presidential material. Nah, but she might make for a good vice presidential candidate for the mere fact that she's almost a household name. Either way, it's still way too early for 2028 forecasting, so I'm going to move on. Next headline in Newsweek, six more states ban junk food from SNAP benefits, aka food stamps, which is what we used to call them back in the day. West Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas have all had new waivers that allow each state to modify what can and can't be bought using food benefits. Across all of these states, the change will impact approximately 8.5 million people.

9:01Yes, we're sorry. But now we find it appropriate to only let you eat food from Republican-owned companies now. I know it's ridiculous, but is that where we're headed if we keep going down this road? I mean, I understand that we shouldn't be poisoning ourselves with 90 % of the so-called food that lines the shelves of every supermarket in America, but where does it end? I'm not even against it necessarily. I'm just curious how far the states are ready to go to take this if someone like, I don't know, Donald Trump were in charge of an entire state, God forbid. Tell me you can't imagine someone like him or one of his lackeys saying that the only steaks you get to eat on food stamps or trump steaks now.

9:37Yeah, enjoy those. Tough as a truck tire. And loaded with gristle from the finest senior citizen milk cows that you're not supposed to eat. In Texas, the ban will cover soda, energy drinks, candy, and prepared desserts, while in Louisiana, soft drinks, energy drinks, and candy will be banned. Some of the waivers are less restrictive. In Colorado and West Virginia, only soft drinks will no longer be eligible for purchase. I really don't even have any problem with that, do you? Soft drink and candy companies might hate it. Yes, I'm sure they're having a meltdown over at Hershey's. Better bring some graham crackers and marshmallows so we can make s'mores, but you'll have to pay with that on your own dime.

10:13Until we can do it again, it's Newsweek Radio. I'm Jesse Edwards. Catch you next time by... And we say bye-bye! Newsweek Radio is a member of the Trust Project. Jesse did that as a joke this morning, so if they come gunning for me, I hope they get Jesse first.
